Supercorptober 2023 Day 4: Money
Read here on AO3
"Isn't that romantic?"
"What is?" Kara asked, so focused on her article that she didn’t look up from her computer until Nia gave her a little nudge on her shoulder.
"That," Nia said, dropping her voice to a conspiratorial whisper. She pointed surreptitiously to the man who had just stepped out of the elevator holding a modest bouquet of both white and red roses. He walked with purpose towards the desk cluster reserved for CatCo's revolving door of interns, his sights trained on the brunette whom Kara had seen earlier in the day being taught the ins and outs of the copier with a look of deep concentration on her face.
He did his best to hide the flowers behind his back before he approached for all the good that it did him because it seemed that she had caught a glimpse of him out of the corner of her eye before he could surprise her.
She goggled at him, clearly not expecting the visit but when he produced the flowers from behind his back a little shyly, she beamed at him and leaped out of her chair with enough force to nearly bowl him over.
“That is sweet,” Kara said. She smiled, feeling happy for them even though she didn’t know them. “And who knows," Kara said and glanced towards Andrea's office. "If she snags the junior reporter job he might be delivering flowers to her very own office someday."
Maybe,” Nia said, but Kara could tell from her voice that she believed such an outcome was a long shot. A fair assessment considering how picky Andrea could be. And with only one open junior reporter position up for grabs it meant that competition would be nothing short of intense. “He’d probably want to spring for a bigger bouquet for just such an occasion.  Nia smiled and snuck one more look at the happy couple before she glanced back towards Andrea’s office. “I should get back to work before Andrea comes out and makes an example out of me in front of the interns.” She rapped her knuckles on the side of Kara’s desk and set off back to her own
“He could always fill her office with flowers,” Kara suggested before Nia got too far away that she had to raise her voice. She did so almost absentmindedly, her focus had already shifted back to her article.
"Now that would be romantic,” Nia said as she kept walking. “But I don’t want to even think about how expensive that would be,” she called over her shoulder.
Would it be romantic? The answer seemed obvious but still, Kara found herself pondering the question intently while she tried to return to work. As if she didn't like the very obvious answer staring her in the face. Of course, it would be romantic.
So my office is overflowing with flowers…
That much was obvious. If a single bouquet was romantic, surely several dozen more than even that would be considered romantic. Looking at it in such an overly logical (and paradoxically illogical) way, Kara couldn't help but think of Brainy, believing he might try and break down the problem in a similar fashion.
But as distracting as the question was, it was Nia’s last comment that Kara found herself dwelling on long after she had left work. How expensive was it to fill an office with flowers? It sounded like the kind of esoteric problem you might see crop up on a particularly finicky math test. Because it wasn’t just the sheer quantity of flowers that would factor in, as well. There was also the unusualness of the request to consider. Not many flower shops would even be able to fulfill such a request, no matter how much they might like to.
She puzzled over the question while she ate dinner alone. Leftover takeout from her favorite Chinese place. As she chewed she made a couple of rough estimates. Tried to recall just how many flowers there had been in her office that day… She remembered that stepping into her office had momentarily taken her breath away. It had been like stepping into a fairytale and how she had never even tried to count them. It would have felt too much like trying to figure out how a magic trick was done. It would rob it of something essential, something beautiful.
Had she really never asked herself that before? It felt strange to think that it had only just now occurred to her. Both the enormity of the gesture and how much something like that must have cost. Maybe because she hadn’t wanted to?
She speared a potsticker on the end of her chopsticks and chewed it without really tasting it. It wasn’t just the flowers though.  There was the little matter of CatCo itself… What did it mean when your best friend bought you a company? But she already knew what it meant. A part of her had always known. It might have been the utter shock she had felt upon first hearing the news that had kept her from realizing it. Maybe it was Lena’s insistence that her buying CatCo was merely a business decision that she fully intended to make the most of even when Kara could see in her eyes it was so much more than that. Or maybe it was the simple fact that she was too afraid of what it might mean.
She had come within a hair's breadth of finally admitting it when Lena had sold CatCo to Andrea. When Lena had freely confessed just why she had bought the company. But then things hadn’t gone crashing down around them soon after that and the truth staring her in the face had been all too easy to ignore.
But what was stopping her now? When things between them had never been better? The answer came to Kara at once. Nothing. Absolutely nothing. Save for however long it would take her to fly to Lena's penthouse and maybe a few stops along the way…
Kara shouldn't have been surprised that Lena's penthouse was empty when she flew past. Not when Lena spent most of her nights working well into the night. Usually that would have bothered her. But not tonight. Tonight it felt right. It offered a kind of harmony that they might look back on fondly…
She touched down on the balcony and realized that she was already smiling when she saw Lena sitting at her desk. Whatever she was working on had her full attention and it allowed Kara to cross the balcony without Lena noticing. She knocked twice and when Lena looked up from her work she did so with a knowing smile on her face.
"How did you know it was me?" Kara asked when Lena opened the balcony door.
"I had a feeling," Lena said, stepping aside to let Kara inside. "And the list of people I know that can enter through my balcony starts and ends with you. Is everything okay?"
"Everything's great. I just hope I'm not interrupting you."
Lena shook her head and it was only then that Kara realized she had taken off her heels, the difference in their heights a little more noticeable. "I was just about ready to call it a night." She waved a hand at her computer. "I could work through the morning and I'd still have plenty of work left to do. Might as well get a few hours of sleep before I do it all over again." she joked.
"You shouldn't work so late," Kara insisted.
"Look who's talking," Lena said but nodded a bit apologetically. "I'll take a day off soon," she promised. "We can do brunch," she suggested with a smile. "My treat."
"It's always your treat," Kara said and knew that there would be no better opening than now. "And even when it's not you always know how to distract me when the waiter comes by with our bill so that you can grab it first. How do you do that?"
Lena grinned. "You're not the only one with superpowers," she joked.
"You spend too much on me," Kara said softly.
"Well, you do eat a lot," Lena said, still grinning although it started to fade when she saw that Kara hadn't joined her.
"You filled my office with flowers," Kara said. "I have no idea how much that must have cost you. I still remember how magical it looked. It was like stepping into the Land of Oz. So much color. It's one of the nicest things anyone has ever done for me, Lena."
"Kara..." Lena said, starting to blush. "You already thanked me for that ages ago. You don't have to do it again."
"I want to. You... You bought CatCo for me." She pursed her lips, feeling a tightness in her throat. "I never... I never really thanked you properly for that. How could I ever thank you for something like that?"
"Kara," Lena said, a little sternly, her cheeks now aflame. "It was n—"
"Don't say it was nothing," Kara pleaded. She shook her head and brushed at her eyes. Please don't say that. Don't try and diminish it when it means the world to me."
Lena nodded slowly and Kara could hear her heart beating a little faster, nearly keeping time with her own. "CatCo was important to you," Lena explained. "And I..." She took a breath and let it out slowly, looking everywhere but back at Kara. "I just like when you're happy," she said softly.
"I know," Kara murmured. "I feel the same way."
"Is that what you came all the over here to talk to me about?" Lena asked, and Kara could feel her trying to inject a little levity back into their conversation.
"Not exactly. Can you close your eyes for a second? Just one," Kara said, holding up her index finger to hammer home the point.
For a moment, Kara saw the polite curiosity on Lena's face and wondered if she might try and ask what for but when their eyes met, a small smile pulled at Lena's mouth and she shut her eyes.
"You can open them now," Kara said, looking the tiniest bit windswept.
"Oh my God..." There was a sharp intake of breath and Lena reached for Kara's arm as if she suddenly needed it to keep her balance. But when she clasped her wrist it was with a featherlight touch. "Kara, how did you?" she began to say but fell silent before she could finish her question. "It's beautiful," she said a little while later after she had taken in every inch of her office as if trying to commit it to memory, and for all Kara knew she was. "Like magic," she said and looked at Kara sideways and even that was enough to make Kara blush a little.
I bet it does look like magic, Kara thought. When Lena had closed her eyes her office had looked as it almost always did, fastidiously neat, the kind of mental image one might think up when imagining an office in a sprawling high-rise. When she opened them again her office was bursting with plumerias. Sprays of color in delicate shades of pink and white, vibrant yellow and blue as well as deep red and orange. And she still had one last trick up her sleeve... She reached behind her back in an obvious way to draw Lena's eye and pulled a bouquet from behind her back that she offered to Lena a bit timidly considering she had just filled her office with flowers.

✧taglist:✧ @strxwbloody
✧warnings: toxic/yandere themes, violence
✧synopsis: Yandere Sunoo, is a young teacher at y/n's high school, the 2 only having a 3-4 year gap. He's so in love with her. She's sweet, cute, loving and sensitive, she's a goddamn pushover and she needs him. Sunoo watches you, he knows everything about you, where you live, what you like, how you feel.
And now he finally has you.... though you're not into him....
✧❁✧❁✧❁✧❁✧❁✧❁✧❁✧❁✧❁✧❁✧❁✧❁✧
You clutched onto your books, feeling judged as you walk down the hallways. Though the school board were ok with it, and Your parents were even willing to marry you off to Sunoo, there are no barriers for Sunoo. You even tried running away, how stupid of you. Your bruises and cuts were almost healed, thigh high socks hiding them from people's view.
You had to distance yourself from Jungwon too, not because of Yena and her group, who were thankfully expelled, but because of Sunoo. He gets so jealous on an insane level. You heard the locker slam shut, sighing as you knew who it was... Yang Jungwon. Things didn't exactly end the way you hoped they would.
You planned on drifting from him like most friends do, though it was hard, crying at home, missing the one close friend who was there for you no matter what. A boy you possibly had a crush on. You found out he had feelings for you too. However, you were with Sunoo and Won hid his love perfectly, but when you found out, Sunoo forced you to fall out with him, saying she only befriended him and acted nice to use him. She had no other choice but to do just that.
Jungwon gave you a dirty look before walking off. You stood by your locker feeling pretty hurt when you felt someone pat your shoulder. "Y/n, stop daydreaming and get to class... I don't like late comers" Sunoo said as the girl rolled her eyes when he wasn't looking. Sunoo smirked when heard the tapping of her platform heels not too far behind him.
The whole lesson, his eyes were on you. The other students too busy with their essays to even look at Sunoo. Not that he cared anyway. He loved watching you do normal things like studying. The way you sort of fiddle with hair or spin your pencil between your fingers, or doodle artistic little doodles around your work once you're done, waiting for the others to finish So you could start marking them.
"Why was Sungchan talking to you?!" Sunoo asked as you got in the car. "Huh? oh, he wanted me to help him with something" you simply answered as Sunoo stared at you intensely "help him with what?!" he asked, clearly annoyed. "Math homework. Don't worry I said no. He won't bother me anymore..." She added as the male narrowed his eyes at her, but smirked to himself hearing how she handled him.
Upon arriving home, the girl showered first, silently getting changed before going to the living room to do her homework while Sunoo marked some papers. "Sunoo... are clouds edible?" the girl suddenly asked as Sunoo frowned. "No... have you learned nothing in geography?" he asked as the girl shrugged. "I thought it would taste like marshmallows..." the girl mumbled with a pout.
"Y/n what is this?!" Sunoo asked as the girl blinked "test?" she said, blinking innocently as he glared at her, showing her paper and her bestfriend's paper "the same exact answers and you both failed what is this?" "Omg we have the same answers... makes sense we study together... and we took the same exam with the same questions" the girl said acting shocked as Sunoo sighed.
The girl sighed, lying upside down on the sofa, as she switched through the channels. "Sunoo... can I go out with my best friend?... I'm bored..." the girl asked as he stared at her in disbelief. "No. I'm not letting you go out. Last time you almost fucking ran away..." Sunoo pointed out as he squeezed one of her fresher wounds. "Did you learn nothing?...." he asked as the girl winced.
The girl gently pulled away as she sat normally, moving away from Sunoo. "Babe..." Sunoo called out as he sat beside "yes?" the girl asked as Sunoo turned to her "Do you love me?" he asked as the girl went silent. How the fuck could she? he hurt her, he gets dangerously jealous he fucking kidnapped her for the love of god. "yeah..." she said as Sunoo nodded.
"Then say it." He said "Say what?" "Say that you love me." he asked as the girl went silent. "Why you already know I love you right?" the girl asked, nervously chuckling as he stared at her. "You don't love me do you?..." he asked, silence trailing after. "I love you Sunoo..." she said, a forced sincere tone, with hidden venom and disgust. "How comes you never say it or kiss me or hug me or do what girlfriends do?!" he asked as the girl went silent.
"Because you're busy with school work and at school we can't fraternize..." she pointed out as the male nodded. "Hmm... I guess that checks out." he said, leaning over toward her, pulling her into his embrace and kissing her forehead not caring about the girl's unresponsiveness.

i was watching Gilmore girls at the beginning of the year i think and then i suddenly got the urge to watch again, so i'm finally on the last episode of season 2. Im completely in love with Tristan but at the moment i'm loving jess (i also searched up jess edits on tiktok and i've spoiled things for myself so i will be debating on skipping that one scene)
Also Ik this is not the best but I hope u guys like it
Warnings— none
Summary— Jess is turning into a great student and Luke not lorelai can think of a reason he’s become an amazing kid all of a sudden.
The library
Tumblr media
Two full weeks, two full weeks had gone by now and no calls from the school had been made to Luke's phone. This was more concerning than actually getting calls from the school. And another notable thing was that Jess started leaving every day at the same time 6:30 and he'd come back home at 9:30 or even earlier.
Luke was getting suspicious but he didn't exactly know how to bring it up since it was very possible he was cheating on his tests, maybe copying off some one else for work. So he decided he'd mention it another day, and every time that decided day came by he'd put it off again, and again.
the two of them were in the diner, it was surprisingly very quiet, there was only one person which was also surprising and then the person walked out. Jess started cleaning up the table before checking his watch.
6:15
He dropped the towel and rushed upstairs, he came back down with a backpack, had he been hiding that thing?
"where are you goin?" Luke asked, finally looking up from the counter “somewhere.” “what do you have in there?” “some things” he shrugged and opened the door, before he could even get one foot out the door he could hear Luke’s heavy steps get closer to him, he turned around again.
“What do you have in there” Luke said again, “why do you wanna know, it’s nothing important” Jess rolled his eyes and checked his watch again.
6:20
“I’ve never even seen you come outside with a backpack, and I need to know if you’re stealing things again” Luke gave him an annoyed stare, Jess unzipped the the bag and showed the books in his backpacks.
“Oh” Luke muttered, and looked over to the side “happy? Cause I need to get going” he zipped the bag up again. “where have you been going?” Luke sighed, it was time he got the truth.
“why do you wanna know?” Jess rolled his eyes again, “because I gotta know these things” another sigh came out of Luke, and Jess mumbled something. It took a good few minutes to get him to admit.
“I’m goin to the library”
He said it quietly but at least it was coherent.
———
“You’re late” you smiled as Jess sat down in front of you, “I know, I’m sorry, Luke wouldn’t let me go until I told him where I was going and what I was bringing” he smiled back at you and took out his books. “well, you’re here now, that’s what matters to me, now what’s today? math?” You smiled again and the two of you started opening your books.
“Today is math day” jess nodded and started reading your math notes.
———
“Jess, in the library? Is he meeting behind it and doing something?” Lorelai drank her coffee, “I didn’t think about that” Luke said as he gave her a doughnut.
The moment very quickly ended when Jess came in and quickly went upstairs without saying a word, Luke and Lorelai could hear the thud from Jess’s backpack hitting the floor.
Jess came back down and grabbed a doughnut; pink icing. Very weird to the two adults in the diner. Unknowing to them the only reason he grabbed it was because you swore that the pink icing on the doughnuts taste different.
———
“So anything new and interesting happening?” You asked as you and Jess walked around after studying, it was the quickest you’ve ever studied but that was because it was English, all jess had to do was read and write some answers.
“no, but, if you call getting a new shipments for the diner interesting, than yes, there something new happening” he smiled at you, “sounds very interesting” you smiled back at him.
“what about you?” Jess turned to you again “what about me? Nothing” you shrugged “cmon there’s gotta be something that’s happened so far this week” Jess said, “there’s nothing, nothings happened, and im 100 percent sure nothings gonna happen” you smiled again at him.
He wrapped his arm around your shoulder and smiled “how about I give you something to look forward to then since you’re free” Jess’s brows perked up, “really? how?” your hand reached up and grabbed his that was on your shoulder.
“how bout you, me, and chinese food, and we can do it on, Friday? You said your parents are leaving on Friday right?” He smiled as you two got closer to Luke’s diner.
“yeah, my parents are going on Friday.. that sounds like a plan” you smiled “it’s a date” he smiled. “Cmon I’ll walk you home” he walked past the diner “thanks Jess” you wrapped your arm around his waist as the two of you continued you way down the street.
-
“Did I see that right?” Lorelai’s eyes were wide and her brows were furrowed, “wow” Luke said, it was the only thing that could be uttered at the moment as they had just seen; You and Jess walking together.
“That must be why he’s going to the library so much! y/n’s always at the library!” Her mouth hung open in shock, it was silent for a few moments “y’know what, this is good” like said as he nodded while drinking his coffee.
“This is good?” She looked at him confused, “yes, he’s doing good in school, and it seems like he really likes y/n, as long as he isn’t hurting her, or doing bad things than I’m happy about this” Luke smiled “I guess this is good..” Lorelai smiled back at him.

step up your game | arataki itto ( genshin impact ) x female! reader
Tumblr media
genre nsfw
summary arataki itto, one of the troublemakers in your university, needed to pass his test in his failing subject to be able to play this year's football game. so he begged for you, the smartest girl in his class, to tutor him. you never thought it would lead to something more...

notes simpy wrote this cuz i was thirsting over itto ok bye / let’s ignore the fact this was in my drafts FOR A YEAR.. i basically forgot how to write smut lol..

Tumblr media
"No."
Arataki Itto almost dropped to his knees. No? "W-What?"
"I won't tutor you."
"Why?!"
You told yourself you wouldn't get involved with the Arataki Gang who were notorious on the campus for being... well... troublemakers. Kuki Shinobu was an exception, though, because she's your best friend. And she mostly stayed out of trouble. You never knew how she joined them, it just happened.
"I just... I have a lot of stuff to do this week." You said, opening your notebook to read the lecture for today's class.
You heard Itto sighing sadly, and you almost felt bad. Almost. "You don't have time to tutor me this week? Even just for an hour?" When you didn't respond, he clasped his hands in front of you, "Please! I'll do anything! I really have to pass this subject to be able to play the upcoming game!"
Okay, you lied. You felt bad.
Shinobu sometimes drags you to one of Itto's football games, and he was a good player. It would really be a waste for the team if he doesn't get to play in his upcoming game.
...You know what?
Clicking your tongue, you nodded. "Fine. Every 8 p.m. on weekdays at starting tomorrow."
He pumped his fist up in the air, "Woo-hoo! I'll see you tomorrow... Uh..." You tilted your head. "What's your name again?"
All you have to do is to do your best in tutoring Arataki Itto and hope to God he does well in the test. So much for not wanting to be involved with the Arataki Gang.
Tumblr media
"This is the third time I've explained this, Itto." You pinched the bridge of your nose. You've been in his dorm for almost 2 hours now, and you had to be back in your dorm by 11 p.m.
"Wait, wait!" Itto shook his head vigorously. "Just explain to me one more time and I'm sure I can understand it!"
You sighed at the pouting look he gave you and stood up to get your water bottle from the table. "So why didn't you ask Kujou Sara to tutor you instead? She's smart." You asked, and Itto shuddered at the mention of her name. "...What's wrong with Sara?"
"Are you seriously asking me that...?! She's literally the most difficult person to get along with!"
You furrowed your eyebrows, walking back to the bed. "No she's not. I get along with her."
"Hah, right. Of course, smart people get along." Rolling your eyes at his remark, you continued teaching the math problem to him. After a few more explaining, he got the problem right.
"Hey, that's correct! Good job." You flashed him a small smile, and you could've sworn his eyes twinkled with joy.
"Really?!" Without any warning, he hugged you, catching you off-guard. "I'll make sure to focus really hard so I can get all 'em right!"
You get that he was happy about it... but...
You never thought his abs would be that rock-hard. Your clothed breasts were pressed up against his clothed abs, and you felt a weird sensation in your—
Y/N! Snap out of it!
"Uhh, you there?" Itto pulled away, looking at you with a concerned look, then his eyes widened. "Oh— Oh. Sorry, it's just when I'm happy I hug... people. Like when we win games, you know? I hug my teammates and I'm sorry if I—"
"It's fine." You chuckled, and there was an awkward silence until you spoke again. "Um, let's move on."
He nodded and answered the next question. Wrong.
"No, no, it's like this..."
Tumblr media
And before you knew it, it was already 11 p.m.
“Thank you… really! I already think I’m gonna ace this test ‘cause of you!” Itto flashed a handsome smile, “Be safe on the way to your dorm, alright?”
You returned the smile, waving at him. “I will, bye.” Itto was about to close the door but you stopped him when you heard footsteps. “Wait.” Shit. Shit, shit, shit!
You completely forgot someone monitors the dormitories as soon as it is 11 p.m!
Itto pulled you into his room and closed the door. You leaned back on the door in distress, “Oh, I forgot about the dorm monitor. You can’t go back to your dorm any time soon…”
“No shit.” You sighed and looked up at him.
He looks… attractive. You were so focused on tutoring him that you never realized he was this attractive.
“Y/N?”
You went back to your senses, “Hmm?”
“I said, you can stay here till the monitor is gone. They’re usually gone by 12 a.m.”
You cleared your throat, nodding, “…Yeah… yeah.”
He chuckled, “Y/N? You okay?”
You nodded once again, “I am…”
“Then… why do you keep staring at me like that?”
“…Like what?”
“Like that.”
Itto was looking at you, and you couldn’t help but gulp at the way he was gazing at you. Archons… he looked so hot. What the hell? “I don’t know what you’re talking about,” You walked past him and sat on the bed. “Guess I’ll have to wait… like 30 minutes or so.”
He turned, a smile on his face, “Wanna do something fun to kill time?”
All you could think about was him fucking you senselessly, trying to keep quiet so you don’t wake the others.
“Sure. I’ll tutor you some more.”
Tumblr media
Tutor, my ass.
You were on all fours on Itto’s bed, his dick in your mouth as he stood in front of you. You wrapped your hand around the rest of his length that you couldn’t fit into your mouth, and looked up at him. He was biting his lip, grunting quietly.
“Archons, Y/N… Who knew you could suck dick so good?”
You didn’t know how it got to this point — You were tutoring him once again, but you couldn’t focus. You kept stuttering and Itto couldn’t understand you. But then seeing his hard-on… You looked up at him and he was gazing at you…
You both couldn’t resist each other.
Choking on his cock, he gripped onto your hair, hissing, “Fuck…”
Then he pulled your head away, the string of saliva connecting your lips and the tip of his cock. You looked up at him, breathing out, “Fuck me.”
Itto was still panting, and the side of his mouth curled upwards. “Yeah? You gonna be quiet while I fuck you?”
“Mhm… Please…” You whimpered, then gasped when he pulled you up and then pushed you down onto the bed.
He kissed your neck, his hand reaching for your wet clit and rubbing it. You moaned quietly, rolling your hips against his hand then whining when his hand pulled away from you.
"J-Just the tip, first..." You whispered and bit your lip, feeling the head gliding along your clit. "It won't fi— Agh!"
Itto covered your mouth with his hand, growling quietly as he carefully thrusts into you. "I'll make it fit, don't worry."
Suddenly, footsteps were heard outside the room. You looked at Itto as he covered your mouth, and your eyes widened when he moved against you. “Shh. Don’t make a sound…” He whispered as removed his hand from your mouth and kissed you.
You couldn't help but clench around him and he groaned, pushing deeper into you. You moaned through the kiss as your legs wrapped around his waist. “Mhhf… O-Oh…”
He's so big that you could feel his tip touching your cervix, hitting it with every thrust he does. He pulled away from your lips as he fucked you harder, your moans coming out as silent gasps.
"Fuck, baby..." Itto whispered, gritting his teeth. "You like that? Does it feel good?"
You could only nod your head in response, afraid to talk because you might moan too loud. He let out a breathy laugh as he continued pounding deeper into you.
Tears filled up your eyes from the pleasure and you could feel the knot on your stomach as Itto went faster. "Mm— 'm gonna...!"
"Shhh, do it for me, baby. Come on."
Your body shook as your orgasm washed over you. He grunted once more, biting into your neck softly.
"Fuck, fuck, fuck..." And he finally pulled out, cumming on your stomach, "Fuck..."
The sight of your almost-passed-out figure on his bed almost made him hard once again, but he resisted himself. He fell next to you, letting out a contented sigh.
You closed your eyes, still panting. "I was only gonna tutor you. Not fuck you."
Itto laughed, caressing your thighs. "Too bad."
Tumblr media
"So you're telling me you weren't at your dorm last night because you were at Itto's?" Shinobu gave you a disapproved look. You smiled sheepishly.
"...Look, it just happened, okay? What were we supposed to do while waiting for the monitor?"
Shinobu sighed. "So much for telling yourself to not get involved with the Arataki Gang."

robin arellano x reader
-> you and robin are best friends (ft. finney) !!
-> basically a bunch of random 😜 scenarios of (y/n) and robin, this was inspired by @/deadghosy's post ab robin so go check out their headcannons please 🙏‼️
Tumblr media
you were supposed to be on your way home but you wanted to stop at the store close to your school for some snacks. you walked up and down the aisles and made your way to the 'chips' section near the back of the store. being so absorbed in the music that was blasting in your ears you didn't even notice robin walking towards you. annoyed of your ignorance, he tackled you causing you to drop most of the items you were carrying.
"HEY!!"
"ROBIN WHAT THE HELL!?" you screamed, headphones falling off your head and onto your shoulders.
"you didn't see me." he explained, getting off of you. he pulled you up by your arm and you picked up the stuff that lay on the ground.
"anyway, how are ya'?" robin asked, like he didn't just throw you into the ground with his body.
"nothing much really, other than the fact that you BROKE MY BACK." you argued, putting your headphones back on your head while walking towards the register. robin followed behind you and thought about rolling his eyes to your dramatization of the situation.
"whatever, give me some of the chips you got." he asked, well, demanded.
"hm, i'll think about it."
"please?"
"i guess. you can have one." you rolled your eyes and gave him one chip from the lays bag you had. he blinked at you and then at the one chip you had in your hand. he was so close to punching you in your arm but before that you laughed and gave him the whole bag.
"i'm joking, you looked so heartbroken."
"i was." he responded almost sassily.
you and robin sat at the lunch table together, not conversing but just relaxing in each other's presence while eating. you invited a girl from your english class to sit with you guys and she wondered why you two weren't talking to each other. she looked at you worriedly, and scooted next to you.
"are you and your boyfriend fighting?" she asked, concern lacing her voice, you almost choked on the sandwich you were eating.
"he's not my boyfriend." you gagged in disgust.
"i'm not?" he joked, holding his hand over his heart.
"oh." she said, embarrassed.
"you're fine, people say that all the time." you laughed.
you waited outside of the boy’s bathroom because robin needed to do something, you weren’t really sure but he sounded serious. you heard him talking with some other guy and wondered what was going on, standing up from your spot when you saw them walk out.
“you better tell me if they fuck with you again.”
the other boy nodded in response to robin’s request. he had curly brown hair and wore a blue shirt with a darker blue jacket over it. he stood stiffly beside robin while occasionally taking glances at you. also standing next to robin, you debated just walking away because of how uncomfortable he looked.
“oh, (y/n), this is finn. finn, (y/n).”
“hey.” you greeted, trying to sound nice as to not make finney more awkward.
“hi.” he answered quietly.
“well, uh, i’ll see you guys around.” finn said, walking away from the both of you.
“so you’re gonna replace me with him, huh.” you accused jokingly, walking away as well.
“huh—? of course not.” he rolled his eyes, throwing an arm over your shoulder.
“yeah you are, getting bored of me already?” you faked sniffled, rubbing at a nonexistent tear in your eye.
“don’t even.”
"here's the answers for the test you had to retake, i got a 100% so you can use it as a reference if you want," you said, handing him a sheet of paper. robin was sick for the past two days and unfortunately missed a math test the day he was gone.
he unfolded the math sheet and quickly skimmed through the paper, "DUDE. like actually thank you so much, this means a lot." he cheered, giving you a quick hug and kiss on the cheek. you laughed at the display of affection and wiped the kiss that was placed on the side of your face.
you didn't think much of it until robin put you in a headlock.
"HUH? WHY'D YOU DO THAT? DO YOU THINK I'M GROSS OR SOMETHING?"
"HOLY SHIT, DUDE CHILL OUT."
he let go of your head after a few minutes and watched as you attempted to adjust your clothes correctly. you both walked out of the library, the bright sun blinding the both of you.
"you're so weird actually." you punched his arm, causing him to shift to the side slightly. he did not let that slide and shoved you with his shoulder, causing you to do the same thing back, and vice versa. you got tired of it and threw your backpack at his head.

Henry Danger Reader Insert | Captain Man x Reader: SEASON 1
Episode 1: The Danger Begins Pt.1
~Henry's House~
~Third Person PoV~
It was another typical day in Swellview. As usual, Henry Hart, Charlotte Page, and Jasper Dunlop were at Henry's house, trying to finish their homework. Henry and Charlotte sat on the sofa, focusing on the algebra questions in front of them, but Jasper quickly grabbed their attention as he stood with his PearPad and read the latest Swellview news.
"Hey, did you guys see what Captain Man did yesterday?" Jasper said excitedly, showing the device to Henry, who was now ignoring the math he was supposed to be doing in preparation for the upcoming math test.
"Can we focus on algebra?" Charlotte was exasperated. She had always been the smartest of the three friends and preferred to get her homework done quickly and correctly, unlike the two boys with her.
"There was a fire at a pet store, and Captain Man ran inside, right through the flames, and saved all the animals!" The curly-haired boy told the story to both of them.
"And he didn't even get hurt!" Henry looked over at Jasper.
"Captain Man never gets hurt. He's a beast," He replied, returning his focus to the website on his screen.
"Y'know, someday when you guys are cleaning my swimming pool 'cause you failed this algebra test, then flunked out of school, I hope you remember this moment, 'cause I will." Charlotte sassed them both, knowing that she would be prepared for the test, but the boys would have nothing but Captain Man's heroic actions in their brains.
Henry clicked on another advert and quickly skimmed over the advertised information.
"Hey, here's a cool job I could do," He slammed his shoe onto the coffee table in front of Charlotte, even though she was still trying to work out her sums.
"Foot model," Henry stated, which caused Charlotte to look up at her blond friend with a confused and weirded-out expression.
"You guys, could we go over the list for my birthday party?" Jasper interrupted them with an excited tone from his place at the kitchen bar.
"Sure." Henry gave him a friendly smile.
"No." Charlotte quickly shot down Jasper's request, looking up from her homework.
"No." This time, Henry changed his answer to match Charlotte's annoyed tone.
"But I invited 52 people, and nobody's texted back yet. What does that mean?" Jasper asked them with a confused voice.
"That people have been to your parties before?" Henry joked, looking at Jasper and recalling all of Jasper's disastrous parties he'd attended.
"Oh, come on, my parties aren't that bad." Jasper shrugged off Henry's comment, trying to defend himself, but Charlotte quickly jumped in.
"Christmas three years ago, 15 kids ended up in the hospital." The dark-haired girl said, remembering one of the worst ones.
"'Cause of your raw turkey." Henry chimed in.
"It was turkey sushi." Jasper tried to tell them, even though his actions couldn't logically be explained.
"A boy almost died." Charlotte reasoned exasperatedly, trying to get to Jasper and make him see why giving people raw turkey is bad.
"Almost!" Jasper quickly retorted, putting a chip in his mouth, thinking he'd won the argument.
"Okay!" Henry threw his arms in the air. "First person who helps me find an after-school job gets this bowl of pine cones." He picked up the large bowl and offered it to his friends, which caused Jasper to gasp in excitement.
"Wow. Why do you even need a job?" Charlotte asked with scepticism from the ridiculous offer of pine cones.
"Y'know, to learn responsibility, challenge myself..." Henry replied, listing all of his aspirational reasons, but Jasper was quick to interrupt him with the real reason why he was so desperate for a job.
"He wants money."
"I want money," the blond boy agreed, looking back at Charlotte, who was walking towards the kitchen.
"Money's good." She agreed.
"Can we please talk about my birthday?" Jasper brought up his party again, much to the annoyance of his female friend.
"Am I gonna have to slap a boy?" she sighed sarcastically, but there was also some truth in her voice. Jasper annoyed her sometimes. The curly-haired boy at the bar looked back at her with panic, but the comment made Henry smile down at his computer.
"Henry, can you please tell me how in the wor--" Kris Hart, Henry's mom started as she appeared from upstairs and walked down the stairs. When she looked across the room, it was only then she noticed her son's best friends were also in the living room.
"Oh, I didn't know Jasper and Charlotte were here." She smiled, looking cheerful with her laundry basket under her arm.
"We're studying." Jasper smiled back.
"Are we?" Charlotte retorted, knowing they hadn't done much actual work.
"Mom, we're right in the middle of something." Henry tried to get her to leave, not wanting to have his mom around his friends.
"I'm not interrupting." She said, plopping the laundry basket down on the coffee table.
"Okay, thanks."
"I just have a question about your underwear," Mrs Hart said, holding up a pair of blue underwear, which embarrassed Henry.
"Mom!" Henry exclaimed with a horrified voice, as his friends were now laughing at what his mother was holding.
"I'd like to hear the question." Charlotte teased, walking behind Henry and resting her hands on the couch.
"What is the issue with Henry's underwear?" Jasper joined in, smirking at Mrs Hart to make his oldest friend blush. He, too, was now resting his arms on the couch with Charlotte.
"Mom!" Piper, Henry's little sister burst through the front door, stealing everyone's attention away from the underwear situation for a minute.
"Mom, I'm not okay," Piper shouted the phrase that she often did, making Mrs Hart turn around to face her. Henry also looked over, trying to use his big brother status tocalm his bratty sister.
"Piper, we're trying to study here."
"I'm talking to my mother." Piper sassed back with irritation evident in her voice.
Henry decided he couldn't deal with her, so he rolled his eyes and looked back down at his PearBook.
"What's wrong, baby?" Mrs Hart looked at her only daughter with a sympathetic expression.
"Jessica unfollowed me!" The 9-year-old showed up again with an angry expression. She showed her PearPhone to her mom.
"No one cares!" Henry said back, clearly not understanding why the tiny issue so worked up Piper. He stood up with his laptop and walked off.
"Henry! Why would Jessica unfollow you?" Mrs Hart tried to keep the situation between her children calm.
"'Cause she posted a picture of her with me and Allison, so I posted a comment that said, "OMG, you look gorgeous." Piper started to explain.
"Well, that's nice." Her mother interrupted in a pleasant voice.
"No. 'Cause Allison thought it meant she looked gorgeous, so she posted a comment that said, "Thanks, ILY." And so then Jessica got jealous and unfollowed me, and now I hate myself, and I'm gonna die!". The young girl failed to see how silly and superfluous her problem was, much to her mother's confusion.
"I'll call Jessica's mom and talk to her." Mrs Hart reasoned, picking up her basket and walking off, which upset her daughter.
"No! That's not okay!" Piper followed her mom, shouting at her from behind.
"Dang it! All these jobs say I've got to have skills." Henry slumped back into his seat at the kitchen table in defeat from not finding a job he liked.
"So? You got tons of skills." Jasper looked at him and tried to cheer him up.
"Name one."
"You're a great dancer." Henry looked at him with a confused face.
"Not I'm not."
"You could take lessons," Jasper said back, waving his finger at his friend as he sat down on a stool.
"Oh my gosh." Henry suddenly looked worried and stood up from his chair.
"What?"Charlotte asked with a curious tone.
"I'm-- I'm not great at anything. This is tragic." He replied with a sad voice.
"Here, let me see." Charlotte wandered over to his computer and combed all the job adverts listed on the site whilst Henry was still complaining about himself.
"I'm just a big pile of average." He glumly exclaimed as Charlotte busily typed away.
"Okay, here's a job." Charlotte smiled with success, and Henry's attention was quickly on the screen as Jasper came up behind them.
"At a store called Junk-N-Stuff. It says, "Needed: part-time helper for various duties." Charlotte read out to the amusement of Jasper, who was giggling to himself behind her at the word 'duties'. The other two kids looked at him with a 'seriously?' expression on their faces before returning to look at the ad.
"And see? It says, "No special skills necessary." She added to Henry's delight.
"That's me. I've got to go get that job." Henry said with excitement, running towards the couch, grabbing the bowl of pine cones, and running them back to Charlotte in his hands.
"You get the pine cones." He said with a cheerful voice.
Charlotte took them from him with a bemused look on her face. Jasper looked disappointedly between them. He desperately wanted those pine cones.
"Sweet." Charlotte took them, rolling her eyes. After she had received them, Henry ran to the door, eager to get to Junk-N-Stuff before anyone else could apply for the job.
Good luck, Hen!" Charlotte called after him sweetly.
"Thanks!" And with a slam of the door, he was gone.
"If you give me a pine cone, I'll lick my elbow." Jasper offered the girl, who looked at him like he was insane. He tentatively reached for one of them, only for Charlotte to smack his hand away sharply.
~Junk-N-Stuff~
Henry entered the store he saw in the ad. Immediately after he oped the door, a giant T-Rex head on the wall breathed fire, causing him to look at it in wonder and amazement. An Indian man sat at the cash register, suspiciously looking at the boy who had just entered. Another man, wearing dark clothing with a black hat, was busy browsing the wacky junk that was up on the shelves.
Taking a closer look at the dubious man, Henry noticed that he had a distinct tattoo on his neck, but before he could properly inspect it, the man caught him staring.
"What are you looking at?" He said in a harsh voice, which caused Henry to stutter a little and look away.
"Uh, nothing. Just, uh, this turtle's butt." His answer seemed to make the man back off, and with a quick apology, he continued browsing.
Taking another look around the shop, Henry noticed the cashier was letting a huge Venus Fly Trap drink from an M-shaped straw. Clearing his throat, he introduced himself to the odd man.
"Um, my name is Henry Hart. I'm here about the job."
"The job?" The man said slowly, as the plant next to him burped.
"Um, did that plant burp?" Henry asked.
"Go back," The cashier said mysteriously, which confused the boy even more than he already was in the kooky store.
"Um, what? Come back?"
"Go back." He repeated, saying nothing more, not a single detail.
"Where?" Henry pressed as the man continued to drink through the curly straw.
"To the back."
"Oh, go to the back." The blond boy finally understood.
"Take the elevator down." The man explained very slowly.
"What floor?"
"Down." Was all the man had to say, which made the plant squeak, adding to Henry's bewilderment.
"You too." He pointed at the flytrap and started to make his way to the back of the store slowly.
Walking through the back, he came to a rusty-looking elevator, but the phone in his pocket started to ring before he could press any buttons.
"Hey, what's up?" He answered, finding it was Jasper on the line.
"Does my basement smell like chicken poop?" Jasper started with. Of all the questions he could ask, this was the one he asked when Henry was trying to get a job.
"Yes." He could hear Charlotte say in the background. He pressed the elevator button before replying.
"What?"
"I'm down in my basement with Charlotte, and she says it smells like poop from a chicken." He explained.
"A sick chicken!" He heard his other friend exclaim in the background again.
"Uh, what are you and Charlotte doing in your basement?" Henry was so confused as he stepped into the elevator.
"He wants to have his birthday party down here in this chicken toilet." He could tell Charlotte was annoyed with Jasper again, and he continued to listen to them argue."
"This is my home." Jasper protested in an offended tone, and Henry wanted the conversation to end as he pressed the down button.
"Guys, I can't talk right now. I'm at a job interview, so I gotta go." The second his fingertip left the button, the elevator fell down the shaft, causing him to shout and scream in fear. As he continued to fall with the elevator, he could hear his best friends express their concerns over the phone, but he was too busy failing to reply.
When he finally came to a stop, the doors opened to reveal a bright room filled with cool gadgets and rock music playing loudly.
"I'll call you back."
~(y/n)'s PoV~
"So tell me again, why do you need a sidekick?" As usual, I asked Ray, who, was excitedly walking around the Man Cave. He turned to me and began to talk to me in his 'Captain Man' voice.
"Because, my cute little helper, I realised I'm not getting any younger, and need help when I'm out doing cool superhero stuff." He came to a stop next to the couch where I was sitting and leaned on the back of it.
"Right, it's taken you 25 years to realise that." I retorted, which only made him roll his eyes at me. We often bantered with each other, being the best of friends, even though I've been in love with him for most of the seven years I've known him.
Y'see, I met Ray when he wanted a helper to look after the Man Cave when he was out and about as Captain Man, Swellview's beloved resident superhero. Gooch stays upstairs in Junk-N-Stuff, and I monitor the supercomputer for any emergency calls. I keep Ray in check when he lets his childish nature get the better of him. After being hired when I was 20, we worked to keep the safe city safe, and before I knew it, those beefy arms and that floppy brown hair had me head over heels. Not that I'd ever tell him.
In the last few years, I've been determined to maintain a professional streak in our friendship. That and his constant interest in all the pretty girls Swellview has to offer; I've been firmly in the friend zone since I moved in. Now I'm at the ripe old age of 27, and it seems that Ray is insistent that he introduces a new face to the Man Cave.
"Look, smarty pants, I put an ad online, and now I'm waiting for Gooch to send down an applicant." He had circled the couch and was sitting next to me while I was scrolling through a playlist of our favourite rock music.
"This ad you posted online. Can anyone apply for it?" I paused for a second after I processed what he said.
"Well, yeah, I guess. Anyone who saw it." I looked up at him with a slight scowl on my face.
"Wait, so we could have any weirdo come down the elevator into your super-secret hideout, and you're going to give them a job? And, you're going to trust them with your identity?" He had that stupid, but the loveable expression on his face told me he knew I'd caught him out.
"Yeah, but I can always use the memory wiper." He smirked back, making me scoff and remove myself from his side. I climbed over the back of the couch and walked to the automatic snack machine for some popcorn.
"Don't come crying to me when shit goes wrong, Raymond." I tried to tease him, but he had already put my headphones on his head and made the couch spin around the room. He was oblivious to the rest of the world, now jamming to some rock.
I was just about to order my popcorn when the elevator dropped, and a dazed, skinny, blond kid stumbled out. He looked around the Man Cave in amazement, quickly becoming confused when he saw Ray in his little music world.
'Huh, this could be interesting.' I thought to myself.
~3rd Person PoV~
The couch came to a stop, and Ray noticed that he now had a teen boy in his Man Cave. (y/n) looked on from the computer area, and the boy didn't seem to notice her, as Ray's exuberant personality quickly caught his attention.
"Hey! How are ya?! Cool. Thanks. Great to meet ya!" He exclaimed quickly, not giving Henry any chance to greet him back. He yanked off the headphones and chucked them to the couch, which caused (y/n)'s eyebrows to fly to her hairline, mainly because they weren't his to throw and also because he hadn't let the poor kid get a word in.
"I'm doing good. What's your name?" He said quickly, walking over to the boy and finally giving him a chance to speak.
"Um, I'm Henry Hart. I'm here about the job." To say how overwhelming the situation was, Henry did a good job of keeping his voice steady.
"Age?" Ray started his quizzing.
"13. I'll be 14 on my next birthday." Henry explained to the large man in front of him.
"Ahhhh. So, you're ageing sequentially. I like that." Ray placed a hand on his chin as if he was thinking.
"Thanks." Henry looked a little nervous as Ray offered him his hand and enthusiastically introduced himself.
"My name's Ray."
"Hi, Ray." They shook hands, grinning at each other.
"You ask a lot of questions." A baffled sense came over Henry as he took in Ray's statement.
"I don't think I've asked any questions." Henry stuttered out, which made the woman observing the pair wander over.
"Ray, you're confusing him. Hiya, I'm (y/n)." She came over to Henry, offering her hand and a calming smile, which he returned as he shook her hand.
"Chocolate or vanilla?!" Ray suddenly asked, causing (y/n) to throw her head back with a sigh. He couldn't be serious about stuff like this, and asked the most ridiculous stuff, but secretly, she loved that about him. It was cute, not that she'd ever admit it.
"Here we go." She braced herself for the weird questions Ray was asking poor Henry.
"Vanilla."
'Not a bad answer.' (y/n) thought to herself.
"Helicopters or kangaroos?" Ray pointed his finger at the teenage boy.
'Oh god.' (y/n) continued to stay silent.
"Helicopters," Henry answered with a slight tinge of reluctance, but Ray still accepted his answer.
"Love it. Scrambled eggs or dynamite?" He walked behind Henry, who was struggling to answer.
"Okay, Ray, what have you been sniffing and should I get my first aid kit?" (y/n) joked. Any average person would think Ray was insane, but (y/n) knew that that was just Ray's way.
"Both." Henry's answer distracted Ray from his best friend's comment. His eyes lit up as he contemplated the idea, making the young lady smile at him with fondness.
"Maybe. Complete this sentence, "I'm sorry, mother, I didn't mean for my elephant to blank." Ray quickly came up with a random sentence for Henry, curious to see what he would say.
"Uh, lick dad." Henry smiled as he thought of his parents in the ridiculous situation. He laughed along with Ray and (y/n) as they were all amused by the funny scenario.
Ray suddenly clapped his hands, and they all stopped laughing.
"Well, that's not funny." He said with a frown on his face.
"No." Henry's face had dropped too.
"Not at all." (y/n) muttered as she looked at Ray as he popped a 'special' gumball into his mouth and walked to the supercomputer.
"Um, is this the job interview?" Henry asked, completely lost with what was happening.
"Just wait and see, kid." (y/n) smirked at him and went to where Ray was now sitting, but her answer didn't help him.
"Do you want it to be the job interview?" Ray asked.
"Um, what is the job?" Henry was desperate to know. Suddenly, Ray leaned closer to him with a very excited face.
"What do you think the job is?" He asked back.
"Hey, genius, stop answering questions with questions." (y/n) had a bored expression on her face, but Ray knew she was entertained by what was happening.
"Shut up!" He held a finger up in her face, which she slapped away, giving Henry a chance to answer.
"Um, well, the ad said part-time helper, so I'm thinking maybe you need someone to help you, you know, part-time." Ray was squatting up and down as Henry moved his hands as he described his job interpretation.
"Do you ever dream about sleeping?" Ray asked in a severe voice, pointing the finger (y/n) slapped at Henry.
"No."
"Good. If you did, you'd be dead." (y/n) said, giggling, which made Ray smile at her. Deep down, she had the same silly sense of humour that he did.
Ray walked to the middle of the room, (y/n) understanding what he was about to do. Henry, however, did not.
"I'm so confused." Henry spoke truthfully, but then again, who wouldn't? The Man Cave always had that effect on people when they first came down, and when coupled with Ray's eccentricity, it made for a dazing experience.
"David?" Ray started.
"His name's Henry." (y/n) reminded him.
"Can I trust you?" The large man looked intensely at Henry, who looked to (y/n) for reassurance. She gave a slight nod and a smile.
"Sure."
"Can you keep a secret?" Ray continued.
"Totally," Henry said confidently.
"So I can trust you to keep a secret?" Ray moved back and forth as he enunciated each word, which made (y/n) look at him with impatience.
"Yes, sir," Henry said curtly. Accepting his answer, Ray took a few steps back from the boy and woman, who were both waiting for his next move. (y/n) placed a hand on Henry's shoulder, not wanting the teen to faint or overreact from Ray's theatrics. Henry looked confused but didn't say anything as he watched the older man.
"I'm gonna blow a bubble," Ray explained to him.
"You're going to blow a bubble?" Henry questioned exasperatedly, clearly not understanding the situation.
"And I'm going to blow your mind," Ray said excitedly, which fuelled (y/n)'s smile.
He began to blow his bubble, (y/n)'s heart thumping for what came next. The bubble popped, and in a flash of light, Ray changed his civilian clothes to his super-suit, finally showing Henry that he was Captain Man. (y/n) eyes raked over him, admiring how his costume fit him, but before he could notice her staring she looked back at Henry, who was about to lose his mind in excitement.
"You're Captain Man!" He shouted, his hands on his head in disbelief.
"That's right, Henry." Ray replied in his 'Captain Man' voice, enjoying the attention.
"Oh, hold on a second." His voice was a little embarrassed as he noticed his zipper was halfway down. His gloved fingers fumbled, trying to get the darn thing to do up properly.
"Stupid zipper. Always sticks. Com-- Ow! That's my skin!" He jumped up and down in an attempt to let the momentum fix the zipper, but it seemed to be well and truly stuck.
"Come here, Captain Doofus, let me do it." (y/n) sighed and walked over to the man.
His hands, previously tugging on his costume, came up to rest just a couple of inches from her face. Her tongue poked out as she worked on wriggling the stubborn zipper up the jacket. From that angle, he could analyse her delicate features as Henry watched and saw the chemistry between the two.
With a little more muscle and some help from an old bottle of oil, (y/n) was finally able to get the zipper to slide smoothly up Ray's chest. With one last pat to his pectoral, (y/n) stepped back in success.
"Who's a genius? All you need is a little lubrication." She bantered at him, putting the oil bottle on the couch table.
"Say until you believe it, small fry." he shot back.
"Muscle beanstalk." She stuck her tongue out, which made Ray return the gesture.
"I-- I can't believe I'm standing here talking to Captain Man!" Henry still couldn't believe what his eyes were seeing. This was a dream come true.
"Why, are you a fan? Do you like me? Most people like me but not everyone." Ray smirked at the thought of all the people who adored Captain Man.
"Yeah, I'm a huge fan." (y/n) was used to the praise heaped onto Ray, and over the years, she'd tried to keep him even a bit humble.
"Watch out, kid. You'll stroke his HUGE ego." She giggled at him and his enthusiasm.
"Oh man, I've gotta tell Jasper about this. He's going to freak when I tell him I'm standing next to Captain--" Henry reached for his phone in his pocket, but before he could start typing, Ray took his laser remote from his utility belt and zapped the PearPhone from his clutches. The burn from the laser on his fingertips caused him to drop the fried phone to the floor.
"I could've just taken his phone from him, but your way works too." (y/n) looked at the superhero, shocked that he'd just destroyed a teenager's most prized possession.
"Sorry, but you can't tell your friends about this," Ray stated sheepishly, telling Henry his most important rule.
"Yeah, sorry, kid, but he's right. You can't tell anyone about what you've just seen." (y/n) agreed, thinking that Ray's secret identity was the most essential thing in his life. The phone on the floor was short-circuiting on the floor as Henry went to grab it.
"Okay, but did you have to melt my phone?" He asked in irritation.
"I'll get you a new one," Ray promised, which prompted (y/n) to reply with joy in her voice.
"Oh yeah, big spender, it's not like we need the money for other things. Stop destroying little kids' phones." She commented, leaning against the couch.
"Hey, I'm not a little kid. But really?" His attention switched between the two.
"No," Ray said shortly before walking across the room and sitting on the back of the couch across from where (y/n) was leaning.
"So, Henry, tell me why you want a job." Now that was an interview question (y/n) that could get behind.
"Well, y'know, to learn responsibility and challenge myself," Henry explained, relating what he had said to his friends earlier, but (y/n) saw straight through the teenage boy, knowing exactly what all kids his age were after.
"So, you want money?" She proposed, smirking as she guessed correctly. Every kid was the same; always trying to get enough to buy what every other kid on the playground had, and this guy was no different.
"Lots of money." Henry quickly agreed with her because it was the truth. He did want money, and he was 13, and he wanted to buy what 13-year-olds buy!
In the middle of their conversation, the elevator dinged, and the doors opened to reveal an 'old woman' who staggered out into the man cave. Henry looked between the weird lady, the superhero and the young woman, wondering what on Earth could be happening now.
Ray and (y/n) knew what to expect. They had arranged the exercise that morning, but regardless, (y/n) was nervous as to how Henry would cope with what was going to happen next.
"Is this the ladies' room?" The 'woman' asked in a stereotypical British old lady voice. Henry was beyond confused now, but Ray maintained his calm demeanour.
"No, ma'am, you're not supposed to be down here." He said to the intruder, who started to look around.
"What an interesting place." 'She' complimented.
"Thank you, but we're conducting a job interview, and you're very old, so can you please just get back in the elevator?" (y/n) pointed back to where the 'old lady' first emerged, and directed 'her' to leave, as according to the plan.
"Oh, I'll just take me phone out of me purse and call me nephew." 'She' chuckled, rummaging through her bag.
"Great, I'll just turn around and look at something." 'Wow, smooth Ray, way to keep things subtle in front of Henry.' (y/n) mentally rolled her eyes as she lowered her gaze to the floor.
As the 'British' woman searched through 'her' purse, the tattoo on 'her' neck was exposed, making Henry realise that something wasn't right. He remembered when he had first entered the store above the hideout and recalled the same tattoo on the scary man from before. Watching the man/woman scowl, he shouted at Ray and ran to the intruder to try and stop them.
"Captain Man!!" Ray turned around for the man/woman to blast him in the chest. He clutched at where he was hit and cried out in fake pain before falling onto the couch. (y/n) ran to him, pretending to tend to the wound.
"Captain Man! You gotta stay with me!" She acted, trying to sound worried. Henry had begun to wrestle with the 'old lady' to get the blaster out of their hands. The 'old lady' hit him with 'her' purse, causing Henry to fall back from the impact. Taking advantage of Henry being on the ground, the 'woman' strode towards the pair on the couch, pointing the weapon at them simultaneously putting their fake boob back into place.
"Goodbye forever, Captain Man." They said in a more manly voice, as (y/n) tried to shield Ray from the laser, even though she knew he would be okay if he were hit.
Having recovered quickly, Henry saw the peril his possible bosses were in, and in the act of bravery and desperation to save them, he jumped on the attacker's back, causing the blast to miss Captain Man. They started to struggle across the room, but Henry clung to him.
"Get off of me!" The man swatted at him and spun around, trying to get the boy off.
"Quit talking like a British Lady." Henry quipped back, fighting the man with all his strength.
"Stop pulling me wig over me eyes." The man complained in a fake British accent. Henry jumped off his back and opened the elevator door whilst they couldn't see. Ray was still 'injured' and (y/n) was still trying to help him as Henry slammed his body into the guy, causing him to tumble into the open elevator. Thinking on his feet, Henry pressed the button, sealing him in, allowing him to look over and see the supposedly hurt superhero and his helper.
"Captain Man!" He panicked, seeing his hero sprawled out. He sprinted over to where (y/n) was 'checking' his pulse and other vital signs, which worried Henry more.
"Is he okay?!" He was panting, but (y/n) stayed calm, feeling his steady pulse under her fingers, and she knew he was alright.
"Captain Man is always okay!" Ray suddenly sat up with a cheery voice and clapped Henry on the back, making (y/n) remove her fingers and sit back on the couch. The game was up.
The elevator opened, revealing the man removing his wig, but Henry was letting the sensation of relief wash over him.
"Nice work, Boris." Ray smiled at the man in makeup, establishing a friendly tone between them, which puzzled Henry.
"The boy did good job." Boris congratulated Henry.
"Woah, woah, wait, wait. You know the--" He started.
"That's Boris. He works for Ray." (y/n) explained to the younger boy, smiling because Boris was right. Henry had done an outstanding job.
"What?" Boris walked over to the three.
"How'd you know he wasn't really an old lady?" Ray looked down at Henry, wanting to know how he'd spotted Boris' real identity.
"Uh, 'cause of the tattoo on his neck. I saw it on him up in the store. And his boobs are too wobbly." (y/n) nodded along with Boris, liking how observant the kid was.
"True. Get those under control." Ray joked, looking at Boris with disgust. Giving him a mini salute, Boris took off into the back of the Man Cave.
"You've got a sharp eye, good instincts and --" Ray started.
"And a nice shirt, and you're brave." (y/n) interrupted with a grin on her face, watching Ray analyse Henry.
"Thanks," Henry said appreciatively.
"Do you know how to make sandwiches?" Ray said, back to asking his weird questions.
"I do!" Henry realised, looking up at the superhero.
"Then you have all the qualities I'm looking for." He smiled down at him, making (y/n) smile too.
"But I--I don't..." Henry started, still confused, but he was beaten to it.
"You're the one, Henry." Serious moments like this allowed (y/n) to admire the older man in his real light. Yes, he was immature, but he was also a calm and brave man who took his job protecting people very seriously.
"The one to make you a sandwich?" Henry still didn't get it.
"No, no, no, I have (y/n) to do that." Ray retorted, but (y/n) punched him on the shoulder with some offence.
"Last sandwich I'll ever make you if you keep ordering me about!" She punched him again so he'd get the message.
"Everyone gets old someday, even Captain Man. I can't do this forever." Ray wandered over to the supercomputer with Henry and (y/n) in tow.
"Yeah, life gets real hard when you're pushing forty." The young woman decided to bite back at Ray.
"Hey! I'm still young!!" He shouted without turning around at her, which meant he didn't see her smirking.
"Doing what?" Henry brought them back to the original conversation.
"Protecting SwellView from bad guys, bad things, bad smells." Henry looked confused at the last bad thing.
"Smells?" He queried.
"You want to be horrified?" Ray turned back quickly and dramatically.
"No!" Henry rapidly said, not wanting to see anything too graphic.
"Watch this." Ray turned back to the computer, where his (your/colour/hair)ed friend pressed various buttons and controls to bring up a video.
The three watched as a small, but grown man in a baby's prison outfit grunted and danced weirdly in front of the camera.
"Who's the freak in the diaper?" Henry asked, clearly repulsed at what he was seeing.
"The Toddler, and don't let the diaper fool you, kid, he's pure evil." (y/n) said as the video got a close-up of the creepy criminal.
"Wow." Henry watched as the man-baby growled on the floor like an insane child.
"I'll show you, now watch this secret video that was intercepted by my people who intercept secret videos," Ray exclaimed, making (y/n) question his logic, but she pulled the video up nonetheless with a few clicks of the control panel.
"You were supposed to bring me my applesauce two minutes ago." The Toddler said onscreen. His henchman tried to apologise, but the Toddler wouldn't accept it.
"Sorry, don't make baby happy." He growled, blowing a long raspberry in the henchman's face, but he was interrupted by another man in an adult onesie.
"Toddler, good news. The radioactive Zenite is here." He said, and this seemed to put The Toddler in a happier mood.
"Really? Whoo-hoo!! That means we can begin phase 2 of my plan." The man-child said excitedly
"Will someone wipe my face?" The tied-up man asked timidly.
"NO!" shouted The Toddler, making Henry grimace, but Ray and (y/n) kept their grave faces. The Toddler complained about how hard it was to blow raspberries in his minion's face, so he ordered the big one to make a device that could do it fot him. The sight of him getting saliva all over their faces made Ray groan in disgust, which prompted (y/n) to shut off the video before he was sick quickly.
"You see that?" he asked Henry.
"He's a maniac!" Henry agreed with the two.
"And there's more maniacs like him, all dangerous to the good citizens of Swellview," Ray explained as he walked back to the centre of the room, causing Henry to turn around and (y/n) to swivel on the chair she was in.
"Well, yeah, but we've got you to stop them," Henry stated, knowing how devoted Captain Man was to Swellview.
"True. But I'm not as young as I used to be." Ray sighed, feeling depressed over his age.
"I'm almost thirty-four!" He looked down in pity, but (y/n) snorted in laughter at how ridiculous he sounded.
"Hey, don't laugh! You're six years younger than me!" He said, pointing at her, but she continued to laugh.
"I need help, and someday someone's gonna have to take over for me." Ray looked at Henry expectantly.
"Like?" The kid still didn't get it, which made (y/n) spell it out for him, not wanting it to drag out any longer.
"Like you, Henry." She said, walking over to them and gently placing a hand on his shoulder.
"What do you say, Henry?" Ray put his hand over hers.
"Do you wanna be my sidekick?" Henry scoffed in disbelief, his biggest dream about to come true, but first, he had to get his priorities straight.
"How much does it pay?" He added in.
"$9 an hour." Ray offered, which delighted the young boy.
"Whoa!!" Ray shared his excitement.
"I know, right?"
"Not even I get that!" (y/n) told the young boy,
"That's 'cause you get to live here." Ray pointed out, and (y/n) nodded with a roll of her eyes.
~Junk-N-Stuff~
Back up in the store, Charlotte and Jasper had come to see if Henry had been successful with his job interview. They opened the door and were struck with the same sense of wonder that had filled Henry when he first got to look around the shop.
"Whoa!" The curly-haired boy gasped at the cool gadgets/junk on the shelves.
"Check this place out." Charlotte shared his amazement.
"Hey, look at this thing." The excited chatter from the two teens made Gooch press a button on the side of his desk, switching the computer down in the Man Cave to the security cameras placed throughout the store.
~The Man Cave~
"Wow, a bucket of swords!" (y/n) saw two kids walking around the store.
"What are they doing here?" Henry said, not wanting his friends to ruin his chances of working with Captain Man.
"Friends of yours?" Ray asked with his arms folded.
"Uh-huh." They all continued to watch the screen, seeing how Jasper was entranced by one of the items on sale.
"Jasper, please don't embarrass me." Charlotte pleaded with him, giving (y/n) the idea that this kid was strange.
"Excuse me, sir."
"He's gonna do it." this made (y/n) bite her cheek to stop smiling at the girl's reaction.
"Yes?" Gooch elongated in his Indian dialect.
"How much?" Why was this kid so interested in a rusty, old barrel of swords?
"Each sword is $100." Gooch named the price.
"No, no, no, how much for the bucket?" 'Okay, this kid is really weird.'
"The bucket?" Gooch didn't understand either, it seemed.
"That's not a bucket. That's a barrel." Charlotte tried to tell him, but Jasper didn't care.
"It's close enough to a bucket. I collect buckets." He said with a proud smile on his face. 'Who the hell collects buckets?' (y/n) thought in her inner monologue; she didn't understand modern kids' obsessions.
"Don't say it." Poor Charlotte always got embarrassed by Jasper and his antics with buckets.
"I'm a bucketeer." And he said it.
"Well, they seem like nice kids. The boy's a bit weird but nice." (y/n) mentioned, leaning her arm on Ray's shoulder and looking over at Henry.
"Yeah, their names are Jasper and Charlotte. I've known them ever since--" He told them, still watching what they were doing upstairs.
"Get rid of them." Ray interrupted him, as he didn't want any more kids discovering the Man Cave or causing problems.
"I'll get rid of them." Henry quickly said and ran towards the elevator as (y/n) grabbed some popcorn from the auto-snack machine.
"You really have a way with children." (y/n) noted sarcastically, not loving how Ray spoke to Henry, but their attention was soon back on the screen and the bucket kid. Ray sat in the chair with his feet on the control panel, and (y/n) put her arms around his neck from behind, letting him reach the popcorn if he wanted it.
"Wow, what a bucket."
"Huh, kid sure loves that bucket," Ray said, looking up at her.
"Can't we just give it to him? Might make him leave faster." (y/n) pondered with a piece of popcorn in her mouth, not seeing how Ray gazed up at her.
"What? No! No free gifts to weird bucket kids."
They saw Henry run in from the back room, and he went over to where Charlotte and Jasper stood next to the sword barrel/bucket.
"Hey!" He greeted them.
"Hey Henry, did you get the job?" Charlotte asked him hopefully.
"Yeah." Ray grabbed the popcorn bucket from (y/n's) hands and started munching away.
"Cool." Charlotte congratulated him.
"Does that mean I can get a discount on this bucket?" Jasper asked him, really wanting the barrel/bucket, which irritated Ray a bit.
"I still say we just give him the bucket." (y/n) said, which caused the man sitting in front of her to throw a piece of popcorn up at her face.
"Dude, it's my first day here. You-- you guys gotta--" Henry tried to make them realise that they needed to leave, but when it came to buckets, Jasper Dunlop did not give up easily.
"Excuse me, mysterious foreign man, do Henry's friends get a discount here?" Jasper asked a perplexed Gooch, who only shook his head, along with his flytrap.
"That plant just shook its head!" Charlotte noticed in disbelief.
"Wow!" Jasper ran over to where the plant was kept, wanting to see if it would move again.
"Will you get him outta here?!" Henry shook her by her shoulders, trying to get the message across.
"How much for the plant?" Jasper asked Gooch.
"Like Gooch would give Omar to some kid." (y/n) giggled, taking more popcorn.
The flytrap squirmed and squealed at the thought of being bought, but Gooch quickly calmed it down.
"The plant is not for sale." He said seriously as Henry tried in vain to get them to leave.
"Come on. I'll give you seven bucks for it and one Canadian loonie." Jasper emptied his pockets and put all his money in front of the cashier. Not liking that the kid still wanted to buy him, the plant opened its mouth and squirted Jasper in the face.
"Ahhhh, it spat in my eye!" Ray laughed along with (y/n) at the sight of Jasper with his face screwed up. It was pretty hilarious.
"Hey, that's my popcorn, don't eat all of it." She said, trying to take the box back, but Ray was too enthralled with the kids onscreen.
"I told you Canadian money upsets people." Charlotte chastised as Jasper panicked from the spit in his eyes.
"You guys, you've got to go now." Henry started pulling his friends towards the front door, not wanting them to upset anyone else in the store.
"Wait, what about my bucket? I want the pretty bucket!" Jasper wouldn't let it go. Charlotte, too, was protesting why they had to leave so abruptly, but Henry still shoved them out of the door.
"Will you shut up about that bucket?" (y/n) heard Charlotte faintly shout from the street as Ray sipped on his drink that he reached for from the auto-snacker.
"Come on, get up, Henry will be back down here any minute, and he needs a costume if he's gonna be your sidekick." (y/n) patted Ray's shoulder and walked over to the couch.
"Yeah, yeah, but first, I want a banana," Ray said to her.
"All you ever do is eat." She joked.
"Just wait for the kid." He told her. The elevator dinged, and Henry came back into the Man Cave. Ray grabbed his banana and sat down next to (y/n), who started to tell Henry about what they were going to do.
"In that room, you'lll find loads of costumes about your size. Try them on, and we'll see what's best." She smiled, and Henry nodded in understanding.
~
"I gotta wear this?" Henry asked in horror, as he was wearing an American flag-inspired costume that was frankly hideous.
Ray sat munching his banana, looking at the teen in deep thought as he took in the outfit.
"All good sidekicks wear costumes." He told him.
"Yeah, but not like that. Take it off, Henry." (y/n) hated how bold it was.
"Yeah, I agree. This is bad." Henry nodded with her, looking at himself in the mirror.
"I have more options." The superhero said with a mouth full of banana.
~
This time, Henry was wearing a bright purple glitter jacket with matching pants and silver sparkly boots. It wasn't any better than the last outfit. He gave a twirl so the two adults could get a 360º look at the awful costume.
"The whole point of being a superhero is subtly. Why do you even have that?" (y/n) indignantly asked Ray, who was now eating another piece of fruit.
"Yeah, too sparkly."
~
The following costume wasn't any better, either. It was mainly red, with a hooded cape and a tight, shiny bodysuit. Nope.
"No capes!" (y/n) exclaimed. She hated them, knowing how they could be pulled and trapped during battle.
"Eh, it's a little Broadway." Ray wasn't keen on it either, this time eating some watermelon.
~
Okay, this one made (y/n) laugh loudly at how silly Henry looked. It was bright gold and too tight as Henry shuffled towards them, and at least he could make the criminals laugh at it.
"Too tight," Ray said, sitting on the couch with a half-eaten pineapple.
"Uh, way too tight." Henry squeaked out.
"Oh man, I ate a lot of fruit." Ray moaned in pain from his full stomach, but (y/n) had little sympathy for him.
"I told you not to eat all of it, but did you listen? Noooo." She said to herself, which made Ray place a hand on her head to steady himself.
This one was perfect. It matched Ray's suit, with silver, red and blue making up the jacket. Everything suited him like it was tailor-made. The two adults observing him smiled and nodded at the new costume.
"Hey! I like it." Ray said with glee as he stood up, his fruit-induced stomachache now subsided.
"I like it." Henry agreed.
"But it takes a lot of time to put on." He mentioned.
"Which is why you'll be needing this special bubble gum." (y/n) said, holding out a tube and passing it to Henry, who didn't understand its significance.
"Special?" He said, feeling confused again.
"Read the instructions." She pointed out.
"Chew gum, blow bubble, fight crime." He read aloud, looking up at Ray.
"Now, you'll be needing one of these too," Ray said, kneeling in front of him and placing a bracelet on Henry's wrist. (y/n) took Ray's laser remote and lowered the lights in the Man Cave because Ray wanted the next bit of the conversation to be dramatic.
"What's this for?" The boy questioned.
"It means we're engaged." He joked, making (y/n) giggle at him.
"What?" Henry's eyes grew wider.
"He's kidding. It's how we'll contact you." (y/n) reassured him before he could panic.
"Why can't you just call me?" Henry asked.
"I melted your phone." Ray reminded him in a monotone voice.
"Right." Henry nodded along with him.
"Now, listen closely. That wristband flashes." Ray started to explain.
"It flashes." The teen understood.
"A triple flashing light means emergency, like "major sitch going down, so get here fast." (y/n) finished for him.
"Right."
"A double flashing light means it's important." Ray continued.
"And what does a single flashing light mean?" Henry looked up expectantly.
"Just to, you know, shoot us a text whenever." (y/n) piped up in a casual voice.
"Got it."
"Now, raise your right hand, spread your fingers. Turn your head and cough." Ray said, doing the same.
"Oh god, here comes the oath." (y/n) mumbled under her breath. Henry mimicked Ray's actions.
"What?"
"Haha, joke." (y/n) rolled her eyes again at Ray's childishness.
"Place your left hand over your right lung, and repeat after me." He said as Henry slapped a hand over his chest.
"I, Henry Hart--" Captain Man started.
"I, Henry Hart--" The teen repeated.
"Pledge to be an awesome sidekick to Captain Man--" Again, (y/n) rolled her eyes. Most oaths didn't go like this.
"Pledge to be an awesome sidekick to Captain Man--"
"And to never ever, ever tell anyone that I am Captain Man's secret sidekick." Ray focused his eyes on Henry.
"And to never, ever tell anyone that I am Captain Man's secret sidekick." Henry smiled back.
"You left out that last ever." (y/n) butted in with her humour.
"Ever." Henry finished.
"It is done." Ray ended the oath, lowering his hand.
"Feels good," Henry said, smiling at the two. However, before they could celebrate more, the alarm went off, telling Ray and (y/n) that there was an emergency. The lights went back on, and they ran over to the supercomputer.
"What's up, Gooch?" (y/n) said, sitting down and opening the camera between the Man Cave and Junk-N-Stuff.
"Someone sabotaged the bridge over the Jandy River." He explained, looking worried.
"The bridge is down?" Ray asked in concern.
"Affirmative," Gooch confirmed.
"That means yes," Ray whispered to Henry.
"I think he knew that doofus." (y/n) whispered back.
"Situation?" Ray concentrated on the situation at hand.
"Cars in the water. Lives in danger." Gooch relayed the message.
"Understood," Ray said.
"Okay, from here to the Jandy River, tell them Captain Man's ETA is about 15 minutes, Gooch." (y/n) told the man before closing the link.
"Phase two of The Toddler's plan." The superhero said with his fists clenched in anger.
"Let's ride." He said to Henry, running over to grab a weapon from the bench.
"Wait, where?" Henry asked.
"We've got people in the Jandy River that need saving. Come on." Ray exclaimed in a hurry, running over to where the tubes came down.
"You mean we're going there together, like right now?" Henry wasn't up to speed with what was going on.
"Yeah, get under your tube," Ray said to him, wanting to get out as soon as possible.
"Good luck!" (y/n) shouted over to them with a grin from her place at the computer. Ray returned her smile briefly before looking back to Henry.
"Ready?" He asked him.
"For what?" The 13-year-old asked, not knowing what was coming next.
"Up the tube!" Ray shouted after hitting his belt. The suction started, and he shot up the tube and out of the Man Cave.
"I don't know how to--" Henry panicked. He started jumping up and down, hoping his tube would do the same.
"Just tap your belt buckle." (y/n) explained. Henry did as she said, causing his tube to come down.
"Up the tuuuuuuube.." Henry shouted as he, too, was drawn upwards.
~(y/n)'s PoV~
I sat down in the Man Cave, just lying on the couch like I usually did when Ray went out. I was scrolling through my phone when the news flashed on the computer. Noticing it was about the Jandy River incident, I swiftly gave it my full attention.
'--Take you live to the Jandy Bridge, which mysteriously collapsed over an hour ago." The female news anchor reported.
"Mysteriously, my ass." I snickered to myself. Like Ray, I had no love for The Toddler or any criminal.
"We understand there are several people in cars in the water. People are injured." The on-scene reporter said.
'Come on, get to the Captain Man bit.'  I thought to myself, as I already knew all the details about the bridge collapsing.
I got up to grab some ice cream whilst they talked about the rescue operation. However, I soon ran back to my seat on the couch, nearly spilling the frozen dessert, when they finally mentioned Ray.
"Luckily, Captain Man arrived on the scene, leapt into the water, and saved the endangered citizens from drowning." I couldn't help but smile to myself at how selfless Ray was.
"And Ron, is it true that for the first time, Captain Man wasn't working alone?" The woman asked the reporter.
"Damn straight, lady! Go, Henry!" I shouted with a mouthful of ice cream, happy that Henry was being recognised for his actions.
"That's correct. It appears Captain Man has teamed up with a new sidekick, who apparently goes by the name Kid Danger." 'Huh, glad we discussed that one, Ray.' I monologued, but in truth, I wasn't angry or anything. 'Kid Danger' was a pretty sick name for a sidekick.
"Well, once again, Swellview owes a big thanks to Captain Man and, apparently, Kid Danger." The news anchor smiled as the report ended, so I turned off the screen. As soon as I did, a tube came down with a filthy Ray, which made my eyes widen in shock and laughter.
"Sweet cheese, what happened to you?" I said, running to grab a towel from the back of the Man Cave.
"Justice. That's what happened." He said from behind me in his Captain Man voice. I returned with a towel that Ray took from my hands and immediately wiped his face, letting out a sigh.
"Still no sign of the Toddler, then?" I asked sympathetically. He let out a long groan.
"Dang it, no! That piece of filth got away as soon as the bridge collapsed." He said, tiredly going over to the computer chair.
"Don't sit down! You're covered in river gunge and debris and stuff." He looked at me with puppy eyes, which melted my heart, but I wasn't about to spend an hour getting the dirt and smell off the chair.
"Look at me like that all you want, but you need a shower 'cause you stink." I push him towards the sprocket, where our rooms and bathrooms were.
"Leave your suit in the laundry basket, and I'll wash it!" I shouted to him, which he acknowledged with a wave of his hand behind his back.
"Thank you!" I chuckled after him. For all his craziness, I wouldn't give up working with him for the world.

---
You sat at the breakfast table with Wylan, who was helping you with your math homework a little bit last-minute. While he taught you how to multiply decimals, you wolfed down your toast and eggs which Nina made for you.
"So, you think of the times tables while you do these, okay?" Wylan explained, when Kaz emerged out of nowhere.
"Come on, little crow," he said. "Or you'll be late."
You hastily put your math in your bag, gave Wylan a big hug and a 'thank you', before bidding everyone goodbye and following your father out.
"Papa, guess what?" You asked excitedly while he sat in the carriage beside you.
"What, little crow?" He asked, not bothering to feign any interest as you both stepped out of the carriage, with him holding your hand as you crossed the street.
"I might get top marks in my tests this week!" You grinned. "Uncle Wylan helped me with my Math and a bit of Science, and Auntie Nej did Social Studies with me, and Auntie Nina did the rest of Science! I'm super confident in class and no one, not even Sofiya Reznik could answer the questions the teacher asked us!"
"Reznik is the girl who's father is a professor, isn't it?" He asked. "I'm proud of you, Y/n."
"I need to go now, Papa," you said, nodding at his hand which was clutching yours tightly.
"Alright," he sighed. "But remember: never start a fight, always be the one to finish it, and please stay far away from Alby Rollins. I don't need Pekka breathing down my neck if you hurt the boy."
"I'm making no promises," you grinned and leaned against his side a little. "I've got this."
"Have a good day, little crow," he smiled slightly, letting go of you. Excited, you skipped in past the gates, running to greet your friends.
Kaz's skin prickled as he saw the children bustling about in the schoolyard. Almost all of them were mercher's children, and he knew they lived on the far richer side of Ketterdam.
Shaking off the feeling, he walked away, back into the carriage.
Your day commenced as it normally would. However, recess was the one part which caused your happy mood to sour.
You ran with everyone else on the playground, laughing as you all played tag. You'd been tagged, and chased relentlessly after a random kid from the other fourth-grade class.
You clapped him on his back and turned around swiftly, but you slammed bodily into Alby Rollins, Pekka Rollins' spoiled, rotten little boy.
"Sorry about that, Rollins!" You apologised hastily and tried swerving around him.
He shoved your shoulder and scowled, "Watch where you're going, Barrel trash."
You'd been called many names before, but that particular one struck your dignity hard.
Your hands clenched into fists at your sides as your e/c eyes blazed. "You take that back, Rollins."
He hit you on the shoulder, "Or what, slum rat?"
You noticed a sharp rock at your feet and picked it up, baring it at him. "Or I'll cut you."
His piggy eyes went wide, but he still held himself confidently. He kicked you on the back of your knees, causing you to tumble down onto the dusty ground. The stone in your hand cut a deep gash across your palm, but you didn't care.
"You'll cut me?" He scoffed, kicking you in the ribs. "You'll cut me? I don't think so, scum. Don't even belong here with us non-slum dwellers, do you?"
"I belong here just as you all do," you spat, trying to stand up, but he kicked you hard in the ribs again. You wheezed and collapsed again, arm clutching your abdomen.
"Think you're equal 'cause your Da owns a club?" He scoffed. "Kaz Brekker don't got nothing on Pekka Rollins."
But before he could even draw his leg back for another kick, you regained your posture and swung a fist at his nose with as much strength as your 10-year-old body would allow.
An audible 'crack' came from where your fist connected with his face, and he clutched at his jaw which you'd hit. The hit was cushioned by his round cheeks, but you weren't any older than him nor were your knuckles conditioned enough to handle a direct hit, and your fist pulsed with pain.
"You filthy Barrel rat!" He screamed, and knocked you down as he tackled you, his pudgy body weighing your down significantly. He threw punch after punch at your face and body, while you tried freeing your arms pinned under his knees. Around you, kids chanted 'fight, fight, fight!'
Of course no one was going to help. Your face was bleeding, and you could barely feel it anymore as he beat you bruised and bloody. Tears streamed down your face as you pleaded for him to stop. He didn't cease his relentless hitting, and no one dared touch Pekka Rollins' son anyway, so why would they attempt to now? You prayed desperately that someone went to get a teacher, and ignored every single insult he hurled your way. Regardless, a white-hot anger coursed through you, making you struggle harder.
You got an arm free from under him and caught his collar, before pulling him to the side hard enough to get him off one side of you. Wiggling out, you wiped a hand across your mouth for it to come down red with blood. Angry like a bull, you charged at him, fists swinging at his pudgy body as you hit and kicked every place you could reach. The other kids tried holding you back, but nothing would stop you from taking revenge for all he did to you.
"WHAT IS THE MEANING OF ALL THIS?" Exclaimed a teacher. Beside her stood Sofiya Reznik, looking worried for you.
"Miss!" Wailed Alby pathetically while you wiped the steadily drying blood from your knuckles. Dragging your sleeve over your face, you wiped off whatever blood you could, and had only just been able to think rationally and clearly, when another teacher seized you by the elbow and dragged you inside. It gave you some satisfaction to see that Alby was also being dragged with you equally harshly. Clearly these teachers weren't scared of Rollins the way the others were.
"I need some context on what happened," sighed the teacher who'd grabbed you, while you sat on a cot in the nurse's office, Alby opposite to you and mewling pathetically to the nurse and teacher.
You allowed the young man to start dabbing away at the blood on your face and replied, "He called me Barrel trash just because I bumped into him, accidentally. I apologised, but then he had to escalate it."
"...and then the shameless Barrel girl punched me!" You heard Alby bleat, while the nurse and teacher looked thoroughly done with is antics.
"It's on him cause he started it," you sighed, holding an ice pack to your eye, which was starting to bruise over. "He shouldn't have hit me."
"I didn't lay a hand on you!" He protested, but the teachers saw right through him.
"Silence, shevrati," you snapped, using the Suli insult you often heard Inej say. "That's what you are, anyway. A know-nothing."
"Kids, enough," the second teacher intervened. She glared at Alby, "And quit your incessant bleating, you've just got a bruised eye. A well-deserved one at that."
"How can you believe that-that slum rat over me?" He gaped.
"None of that, boy," scowled the male teacher. "Come on now, both of you, to the Principal. Goodness, the things you all do..."
You sat quietly outside the office, waiting, and heard the sound of branded leather boots against the tiles of the floor. You looked up to see Pekka Rollins hurry over to his son, and heard his angrily muttered insults towards you.
"Atleast now I know where he learned it all," you scoffed, looking at the man.
"Y/n?" A serious and familiar voice made you look up, and immediately your heart dropped to your worn-out shoes. Kaz was there with your Aunt Inej, Nina, Jesper and Wylan, and all of them looked beyond pissed.
"Hi..." you awkwardly said, holding up a hand to wave at them. However, it took you a moment to realise that their anger istelf wasn't directed towards you. Kaz was glaring past you and at Pekka, who was comforting his crying child.
"Not this stuff again," you grumbled and flicked Alby on the ear. "I didn't even break anything, so quit your bleating."
"Don't you even--" Pekka began, but was interrupted by the secretary.
"Um...are you Y/n's family?" She asked, peeking out of the office. Kaz and the rest of the crows nodded, and she said, "I need the father to come in, please."
"That would be something you don't want to do," Nina interjected. "Unless you want another fistfight on your hands."
She looked defeated, and replied, "Just- just decide amongst yourselves who is to come in."
They all looked at each other, and you facepalmed. You did regret it immediately, though, as your eye throbbed thanks to the bruise on it.
“Please, honestly, we just really need the fathers here,” said the young woman. Seeing their incredulous glares, she added, “I don’t make the rules.”
You tentatively gave Kaz a quick hug, before running back to the chair you'd sat in. He looked at you in a way that made your skin prickle with unhappiness
“Little crow…” Nina sighed, shaking her head. “You’re just like Kaz. Can’t back down from a fight.”
“Hey, he started it!” You scoffed, glaring at Alby, who stuck his tongue out at you.
You suddenly heard raised voices inside the office and shrank back against your seat, looking a little afraid. You’d never heard Kaz raise his voice like that, atleast not in front of you. To be honest, it terrified you to imagine your normally calm father standing there in front of Rollins, his eyes blazing and gripping his cane hard.
“Little crow, you’ve got a bruised rib!” Gasped Nina. “How did this happen?”
“He kicked me," you mumbled, pointing at Alby. The boy glared at you again, and you heard him scoff something which sounded like 'tattletale'.
Jesper knelt in front of you while Nina attempted to heal your bruised rib, and asked, "Did you win, little crow?"
You grinned and nodded, "Yeah, I did."
Wylan immediately smacked his boyfriend upside the head and scowled, "Jesper Llewellyn Fahey, we will not encourage this behaviour," he looked at you and sighed, "Y/n, I'm really disappointed in your decision today. Why did you hit back?"
"Because he--OW!" You exclaimed as Nina made a sharp turn of her wrists, fixing the rib which you'd bruised. "Auntie Nina, that hurt!" You glared at her.
"Listen to your Uncle, little crow," she frowned. "He's right. You shouldn't have hit back."
"He called me barrel trash. Why am I in the wrong here? Besides, I had apologised for bumping into him, and he just had to insult me." You scoffed at them all. "Papa would've understood."
"My little crow," Jesper spoke after a long time, startling you. "If someone decides to stoop that low, you have to control your own emotions and walk away."
"You guys fight people on a daily basis," you grumbled. "It's quite hypocritical for you to say that."
You were honestly livid with their behaviour, thinking they'd support your decision, but the more they spoke, the more you wanted to throw and break something.
You slouched in your chair and noticed Alby sticking his tongue out at you, as the crows looked at each other, their telepathic adult conversation going back and forth.
The secretary came in and gestured for you and Alby, saying, "Kids, the Principal wants to see you."
You stood up and glared at the rest of your family, who simply looked back at you the way grown-ups do when they want to make a point. You had no idea why they were against you on this, and felt another surge of anger go through you at their expressions.
Inside the office, you sat quietly next to Kaz, who was seething with anger. His rage wafted off him in waves, which made you scoot your chair as far away from him as you could. His eyes blazed with fury as he looked at Pekka, who held his son's shoulder as the boy sat down.
"Children," the Principal said gently, looking at the two of you. "Could you care to explain exactly what happened? Let's start with you, Y/n, dear."
You tried not to cringe at her tone. She spoke as if you both were in kindergarten.
"Well," you said, thoroughly tired of having to narrate the story over and over. "I was playing tag with my friends and I didn't hear Rollins behind me, so I bumped into him by accident. Naturally, I apologised, but he just had to hit me and call me 'barrel trash' and continued to bully me about my background, and he got physical, so I responded in self-defense."
“See, Mr. Rollins, I suggest you try to control the language you use around your child,” sighed the Principal, looking at the man.
“Yes,” said Kaz, his voice stone cold. “Preferably teach him not to mess with her.”
“Keep that mouth of yours shut, Brekker,” growled Pekka. “My son would never say such things! He doesn’t do it at home, why would he do it outside?”
“I can call one of our students in to confirm, if you’d like, Mr. Rollins,” the principal replied pointedly. She hated it when fathers excused their sons behaviour when they were so obviously in the wrong.
You glared at Alby, “Confess else I’ll do more than just bruise your eye. We both know what you did.”
“I didn’t do anything,” he scoffed. “She pushed me and just began hitting when I asked her to watch where she was going.”
“That’s a lie!” You shouted. Kaz rested the tip of his cane on your shoulder to warn you not to get up, for he noticed you tensing to hit again.
“We are dishing out a week-long suspension to you, Alby Rollins,” said the Principal, writing him a slip. “For starting a fight, greviously injuring another student, and for name-calling as well as bullying on the basis of their background.”
“You can’t do that!” Gasped Pekka.
“I run this school, Rollins,” said the woman, handing him a signed slip. “I do what I want. And I want to ensure your son doesn’t repeat this concerning behaviour again, because if he does, then he certainly will not have any place here.”
“Looks like you’ve lost this fight, Rollins.” Your father smirked at him.
“As for you, Y/n Brekker, I’ll be giving you a two-day suspension for retaliating instead of telling a teacher. Physical fights are not tolerated here. Please go to an adult the next time someone does something like this,” she wrote you a slip as well and handed it to your father, who looked at you angrily. It made you shrink in your seat, and you hastily avoided eye contact.
You exited the office with Kaz, your eyes trained on the floor. You didn't want to meet the furious eyes of your family members, and knew no one would really sympathise with you.
The carriage ride, too, was spent in silence, with Kaz glaring at you, his breath coming out in barely controlled huffs, while Jesper made futile attempts to lighten things up.
Back home, you waited for your father to start yelling. And he did.
"Why would you take a challenge with Pekka's son, when I specifically told you not to?!" Kaz bellowed, livid.
"H-he started it..." you said in a small voice, eyes fixated on the floor, while the other crows settled around the living room. You knew you had messed up, but did it really warrant this reaction?
Your father scoffed, his hands gripping his cane tightly. "Does that mean you will fight back? How many times must I tell you? Never interact with a Rollins!"
"But...but he called me Barrel trash and so many more names..." you replied in the same voice, not wanting to move at all, but at the same time, your whole body trembled as your defense mechanism to run kicked in.
"So you hit him?!" This time it was Wylan who spoke up.
"He hit me first!" You exclaimed, sick of being told that statement.
"And you hit back?!" Nina interjected. You met your aunt's green eyes which held an anger you had never seen before, and it terrified you. "Come on, Y/n!"
"But--but--" You stuttered, however, no one wanted to listen.
"Y/n," said Kaz, his eyes on you. "Why did you have to react? Do you realise how far this has escalated?"
"N-no..." you replied. And you actually didn't. From the time you'd started going to the local school, Kaz always told you to stay away from Alby, but he never told you why. You knew he had a feud with Pekka, so what did that possibly have to do with you?
"What part of stay away from Alby Rollins was unclear?" Kaz seethed, his body tense and taut as a bow string, while his grip on the cane increased drastically.
"He bruised my ribs," you choked out, finally gathering some courage. "He kicked me, insulted me, insulted you, made me look like an idiot in front of my entire school, and you wonder why I hit him back?"
Kaz took a step towards you, but you flinched away, afraid. A look of shock passed over all their faces at your reaction, and Kaz looked hurt.
"Why can't you just understand?" You sniffled and ran up the stairs to your room, slamming the door shut and curling up on your bed to cry softly. Your eye still hurt, as did your ribs, and everything Alby said echoed in your mind.
A soft voice came from outside the door, in a language which was gentle on your ears.
"Little crow?" Inej asked, her voice muffled through the wood of the doorway, speaking in clear Suli. "Can we talk?"
"No," you scowled, replying in Suli. "Go away."
"I'm on your side, my crow," she said gently. "But please, talk to me."
You sighed and opened the door, letting her in.
She came inside and sat on your bed, beckoning you to sit beside her. By force of habit, you did so and laid your head in her lap while her calloused hands stroked your hair comfortingly.
"Why can't any of them just understand?" You said, tears welling up in your eyes again. “I didn’t hit him just because I wanted to, I just was trying to defend myself…”
“I know, my little crow,” she said, “their reaction was way too uncalled for, but you see, your father just wants to protect you. Kaz and Pekka have had this feud going since a while now, and he just doesn’t want things to escalate. It might warrant your involvement, and he definitely doesn’t want that.”
You exhaled deeply and looked up at her. “I shouldn’t have hit him that bad, I know. I just—I felt so disrespected and so…pathetic…I didn’t know what else to do!”
“Look,” she said, “People will say what they want. As a female, and as someone from a slightly less privileged background compared to others, you’re bound to face this. People with closed mindset’s will treat you this way, and you have to develop a thicker skin as much as they have to recalibrate their way of thinking.”
“I think Ill go apologise to Papa, then…and to Auntie Nina. And Uncle Jesper and Wylan…” you trailed off. “I love you, Auntie Nej.”
“And I, you, my little crow.” She grinned and leaned down to press a soft kiss to your head.
You walked downstairs again with her and stood in front of the crows, who were assembled on the couch. You inhaled deeply and said, “I’m sorry for reacting like that. I know it was wrong of me to hit Alby, and Ill work on my temper a lot more from now on.”
“I’m sorry too, little crow,” replied Kaz. “I am aware that you don’t know what goes on amongst the adults and it was definitely wrong of me to assume you could figure it out.”
You nodded and went over to him, giving him a big hug, whispering, “It’s okay, Papa,” in his ear. The rest of the crows fell atop you two in a group hug, with both Nina and Jesper crying.
“So…as a way to shake off the horribleness of today…” Nina suggested when you all collected yourselves, “Why don’t we all go to the Kooperom for tea?”
“I could use a good plate of pie, to be honest,” said Jesper.
“Same,” you grinned, turning around in Kaz’s lap.
“Alright, grab your coats and let’s go,” smiled Inej, doing exactly that.
So, you all let go of your old anger and enjoyed together, laughing over plates of waffles and cups of tea till the sun began to set and the clouds turned grey with the onset of night…

I hope you all enjoyed this one <3

"I like you! Please go out with me!"
"I appreciate your feelings, but I am afraid I can't reciprocate them..."
You heard a girl and William from the bushes, freezing you from the awkwardness.
'Sorry, lady... I just wanted to get out of tutoring lessons. I didn't mean to overhear...' you internally apologized as you kept quiet.
"Yes... Thank you for listening to them," the girl replied, clearly faking her tone as you heard footsteps approaching.
You held your breath as the girl walked past you, luckily not noticing your presence as she headed back to the school building.
You sighed in relief as your body loosened up.
"(Y/N)," William called out, making freeze.
You tried to keep quiet, hoping he would go, but you could already see him looking at you through the leaves.
"Come out," he smiled threateningly, making your skin grow goosebumps.
You nervously laughed as you stood up from the bushes and pulled the branches and leaves out of your hair.
"How did you know I was there?" you asked, stepping out of the bushes as William held your hand for balance.
"Have I ever had trouble finding you?" he questioned, making you breathe out a smile.
"That's true..." you muttered, slipping your hand out of his, "Well, thanks for the help," you saluted as you tried to run, but William grabbed your arm before you could even take a step.
"Where do you think you're going?" he asked, making you gulp as you felt the air getting heavy.
"I DON'T GET IT!"
"SHH!" you flinched, the librarian's angry stare boring into your soul.
"Sorry..." you softly apologized, sighing in frustration at the practice test on your desk.
"Who would even put letters into math?" you grumbled, making William chuckle.
"You just need practice," he encouraged, checking your paper.
"Excuse me..." a girl, for the fifth time that day, called out to you both.
"U-Uh..." she muttered, intimidated by your stares.
"...We're usually done after six," you answered, making her sigh in relief.
"Thank you!" she bowed, rushing out of the library.
William turned to you with a deadpan stare, to which you replied by shrugging your shoulders.
"It's Valentine's day. What did you expect?" you questioned, looking at the corrections to your work.
"I don't see what's so special," William sighed, mentally exhausted at all the people who approached him today as he gave you another worksheet.
"It's because of the legend in the school," you giggled, reading the questions.
"Legend?" William repeated, making you look at him.
"Yeah, you know...? About confessing by the large tree by the gates?" you answered, pointing at it with your pen, but William kept a questioning expression.
"The legend says that anyone who confesses on Valentine's day by that tree will be blessed with eternal love," you answered, making him raise a brow.
"And people believe it is true?"
"Why not?" you shrugged, "There's no harm in believing, right?" you added, scribbling on the worksheet.
"Oh, right!" you exclaimed, grabbing your bag off the floor.
You rummaged through your things as you pulled out a gift.
"Here," you smiled as you gave it to him.
"I know how sick you are of chocolates this time of year, so I tried making that stargazy pie you always eat," you smiled, making William look at you in disbelief.
"Happy Valentine's Day," you added, facing back to your worksheet.
William softly smiled as he carefully put your gift into his bag.
"This legend... Is there even proof that it is legitimate?"
"Well, rumors are saying that students who confessed at that tree got married years later. Why?" you asked, your eyes not leaving your paper.
"Hm..." William leaned to his desk, gazing at the tree with a soft smile.
"Just a curious thought,"

Even before this shit went down my life still wasn't something to be proud of
"Rayne, care to explain?" my mom asked holding up a test I got a 83% on. "My math test?" I answered and she laid a strong slap across my cheek. "Don't get smart with me!" she said as I felt stinging in my right cheek.  "Now, try again. Care. To. Explain?" she asked.  "An 83 is still a A" I tried to explain but once again I was met with another strong slap
Don't cry dont cry dont cry
"Your grounded" she said then pointed to the stairs, something warm run down my temple.  Opening the door to the bathroom only to be disappointed as my eyebrow had a cut and was now bleeding.
"Did you give yourself that cut? Just got some attention" my sister scuffed as I grabbed a wash cloth and held it under warm water.  "Hello?" she said but once again I gave no reply.  "Your pathetic honesty" added then walked to her room.  "I know" I mumbled as I put a bandage on the cut.
I was waking to my room when I heard a door open and close followed by something being set down.  I made my way downstairs to see my dad who had just gotten back from a hunting trip the thing he sat down being his rifle and revolver.  "Can you BELIEVE this, she practically failed!" my mom yelled holding up my 'failed' test.  "Hi Rayne" my father said and got up walking past my mom and over to me.  "What happened to you face?" he said referring to my now bruised cheek and cut eyebrow.  "I fell." I said already knowing better then to tell the truth.  "How bout the test huh? You know I can't let that slide also your mom said you were bad mouthing her and your sister, you know that's not okay" he said and I just nodded knowing nothing he said was true.  "No leaving the house at all and if I even see you look at the tv or play any video games so help me" he said this time more stern.
I didnt hate my family but sometimes it's hard to keep myself from letting out all the stuff I have been forced to keep in.
"ok" I said.  "What's the use? She's just gonna have her face shoved in a book" my sister said kicking me in the leg I looked up to see if my father had noticed but he was already gone.  "You can't even defend yourself, honestly could you be any more useless" she added but I just once again stayed quiet.
Rule number one: always stay quite
I had 5 rules in place if I broke them, god knows how many marks would be on me if I didn't keep my mouth shut.
No.1: always stay quite (what's the point of talking when no one is listening to you)
No.2: never cry. ("Your so weak all you do is cry")
No.3: A (if I can't get good grades then I'm a disgrace, a failed, a mistake)
No.4: I don't need anyone (relying on other people means your weak)
No.5: take it.  ("You deserve this. You deserve to bleed")
I live with these 5 rules also on my mind if I break one...well...i don't know, I guess I never have, but I know I don't want to know what'll happen if I will.
"There were a lot of people out this season" my father said.  "Really? I thought that not many people go out over there" my mom asked.  "Yeah I did to, and the weirdest thing about it was that they weren't even wearing hunting gear they were dressed in normal everyday clothes, and get this there werent even any buck" he complained.
People dressed in normal clothes on a hunting trip? Something about that doesn't feel right, as I thought something outside caught my eye.  I walked over to the window to see people, groups of them walking all sluggish almost tripping over there own feet, some of them...were covered with
Blood
Others had very severe injuries, like missing arm you could s-
I felt something rise in my throat looking at one of the people, a little girl with a large intestine spilling out of her I covered my mouth with my hand and ran up stairs getting the attention of my family.
The image crossed my mind once again this time I wasn't able to keep in what I was trying to avoid I ran into the bathroom bumping into the door frame and released my hand from my mouth my stomach unable to take anymore.  "Rayne? Are you alright?" my dad asked rubbing my back.  "She's just doing it for attention, stop being so dramatic" my sister scoffed but the only thing I could focus on was the...i dont even know what it was.  "Rayne what's wrong?" my father asked.
"Outside...look, outside" I said in between huffs and coughs, my father then got up
It was to long before I heard the front door open, then slame shut.  I stood up and slowly walked down, to see my father's eyes wide his hands gripping onto his hair while my mom began to cry she then grabbed her phone
We all sat there is silence

No one picked up
I ran over the to an old radio I used to listen to when I was younger, thank god I still knew how to use it
Static
"WARNING WE ARE CURRENTLY IN A CRISIS DONT GO NEAR INJURED PEOPLE THEY ARE INFECTED IF YOU GET BIT YOU DIE IF YOU GO NEAR THEM YOU DIE, THE LIVING WALK THE EARTH AND EAT THE LIVING"
"Oh my god" my mom said and fell to her knees.
I ran up stairs and ran into my room to get a book and ran back down stairs almost tripping.
"Look" I said and handed my dad the comic. "Holly shit" he said looking through the book. "We have to go, there has to be somewhere safe" my dad added. "Jade! Get down here!" my dad yelled and my sister walked over tears streaming down her face as she shook in fear, and if I'm being honest as much as I hate to admit it we all were even me...
"Me and you mather are going to gather food and weapons, you two go pack clothes not a lot just enough to travel as well as other things you might need" dad said and I nodded and ran up stairs to my room.
2 outfits should be fine including the one I'm wearing
Fit 1 (currently wearing) : red hoodie with a white t-shirts under and blue jeans (dw the fits get better)
Fit 2. A yellow stripped shit and white t shirt with leggings (most of these are based off of Clementine)
Fit 3. A purple t-shirt with blue jeans
I then went into the bathroom to get basic hygiene products (tooth brush, deodorant, etc) "get boots too!!" my dad said and I went into my room and dug through my closet trying to find the one par of boots I had.
Found them
They were an old pair of docs that used to be my sisters but they dont fit her anymore. I then looked at my desk to see a photo of my best friends and tears streamed down my cheeks,
The one person who actually cared, the one person I trusted please for the love please be okay.
"RAYNE GET DOWN HERE!!!" my dad yelled and I took the photo and put it in my pocket.
When I walked down stairs I seen everyone with bags in there hands my dad set his down and I walked by Jade my father then kneeled down and held up two pocket knives I put my hand out but hesitated while my sister just turned away and shock her head. "Please guys, I need to know that you'll be able to protect yourself if need be" he said and I nodded taking the black and silver knife and flicked it open, nothing to special. "Fine" my sister said then took it. "Alright me and your mama have guns but we won't be able to protect you all the time" he said I agreed but my sister wasn't having it. "No! You have to protect us YOU HAVE TO" she said and my father slapped her and she screamed and cried the....um....things?... Walkers ya
Started walking towards our house probably from hearing Jade cry
Sound attacks them
"Shit Jade stop screaming!" my dad said and covered her mouth only to revile the sound of walkers banging on the door. "Dammit Jade" my dad said. "We have to go through the back" he said and let go of my sister tears still streaming down her face we grabbed all of our stuff and my dad held tightly onto his rifle
Here we go

Chapter I  Chapter II  Chapter III  Chapter IV  Chapter V  Chapter VI   Chapter VII   Chapter VIII
You were laying in bed, smiling like an idiot. The alarm hadn't even gone off yet, but you had already been up for 30 minutes. Your mind kept going back to him and you had stopped fighting it a long time ago. You enjoyed remembering his touch, the way he stroked your cheek so gently with his rough hands, the way he grabbed the back of your head to kiss you more deeply, the way he explored your whole body, making you shiver. Just like you enjoyed being reminded of his voice, his deep and hot voice, calling you "sweetheart" or "princess" like it's the most natural thing in the world.
You couldn't wait to see him at school today. You smiled, realizing that, for the past week he had been able to make you eager to go to school, something you hadn't felt since kindergarten, probably. You didn't know what it was about him, but he had put a spell on you, and all you could hope for was that you had put one on him too.
The bell rang.
"Remember to bring a calculator for the test tomorrow!" Your math teacher shouted while some students were already going out of the door.
You turned to Sarah, who was waiting for you to finish packing your bag, "We have a test tomorrow?" you asked wide-eyed, she snorted "Are you serious?" she asked amused. Seeing as you didn't answer but instead stood there open-mouthed, she took it as a yes. "He said it last week Y/N, where have you been?" she said, smiling, obviously enjoying seeing you in such a state of panic. You knew where you had been. You had been so preoccupied with only thinking of Eddie that you had totally forgotten about your test. You were starting to think that the spell he had put on you might have actually been a curse. You put your notebook in your bag as you started walking towards the door, followed by Sarah. "I'm so fucked" you murmured, getting out of the class.
"Good morning sweetheart" Eddie said, hugging you from behind, making you jump, not having heard him. "Calm down, princess. It's just me" he murmured kissing your neck. You leaned into his hug, getting captured by his scent, humming happily. " so I was thinking..." he said softly, turning you around "what do you say about coming to my trailer tonight?" he asked before kissing you briefly. You smiled, looking up at him through your lashes "And what exactly did you have in mind to do at this trailer of yours?" you said, feigning innocence "Whether you want to sweetheart, my uncle is working all. night. long." he said in a malicious voice, before smirking. You bit your lower lip, tempted by his proposal "I would really love to do that Eddie". A spark ignited in his eyes." but, unfortunately, I have a test tomorrow, and I haven't even started studying. So I can't" you said with a sorry tone. You could see in his eyes that he hadn't fully gave up yet "I could help you study" he proposed, causing you to laugh softly.
"You?" you asked skeptically, breaking out in a laugh again. "What?" he asked, pretending to be offended "You don't think I would be a good teacher?" he said, lowering his voice while moving your hair away from your neck, starting to stroke the side of it with his finger. You let out a giggle " I am not questioning that, I just don't think math is
your strongest suit, that's all "you said, intertwining your arms behind his neck and starting to play with the hair at the base of his nape "And besides, I don't think you would let me get a lot of studying done if came there"You said, smiling."I have no idea what you are referring to princess" he lied, bringing one of his hands to your waist, pushing you closer to him, while grinning. " i'm sorry Eddie, I can't" you finally said, snatching the last bit of hope remaining from his eyes. "Alright," he said, resigned, leaning to kiss you.
You hated math, it's not like you were bad at it, but it just bothered you how it was completely useless and still, it was considered one of the most important subjects. You had been studying for about four hours uninterrupted when you heard a know at your door. " Come in" you said, thankful for a reason to take a break. Steve opened the door, "Hey Y/N, I just wanted to let you know that I'm going to a friend's house and I think I'm gonna spend the night there, but I'm gonna be home in the morning to bring you to school as usual."He said, entering the room. "A friend's house?" you asked, raising your eyebrow, not believing him even a little bit."Yes. A friend's house Y/N" he answered annoyed, "And would you mind telling me this friend's gender?" you said fighting back a smile,he rolled his eyes "Ok, listen I don't have time for this, I'm already late, so just stay here and ask who it is before opening the front door" he said exasperated. You laughed "What am I,10?" you asked him, amused at his ability to be more of a mom than your actual mother, whom you saw very rarely, since she was always working double shifts at the hospital to sustain the whole family. "whatever, just don't do anything stupid" he said, before quickly going out of the room and closing the door in a rush.
Shit, this girl must be really hot to make him rush like that, you thought before going back to studying.
It was midnight and you had just started studying again after taking a break. You wanted to give up so bad, but you needed to do well on this test, otherwise, your GPA would have dropped and you definitely didn't want that.
"Come on Y/N, you're almost done, you can do it" you hyped yourself up, getting back to work when you heard a noise coming from your window.
Confused, you turned your head in the direction of it but saw nothing.
It must have been your imagination.
Tic
You heard it again.
What's happening? You asked yourself, looking out the window again, still seeing nothing. "I think I'm going crazy" you mumbled to yourself before going back to your exercise.
Toc Toc
You heard it again, this time louder.
Ok, this is crazy. you thought, turning your head again.
You jumped in your seat as you took in the view before you. Eddie was crouched in front of your window, smiling like an idiot, looking at you like he had done nothing wrong.
You got up from your chair and walked to the window, opening it.
"what are you doing here Eddie!?" you whispered, widening your eyes
"I tried throwing rocks but you wouldn't come to the window" he said, grinning
"That doesn't answer my question" you said, scolding him"do you have any idea what time it is?" you asked
"I saw that your light was on and I wondered if you wanted to take a break from studying. You know, if you stay up all night you won't be rested enough for your exam” he said raising his eyebrows.
You sighed “fine, but five minutes and then  I have to get back to studying” you finally gave up, taking a stap back so that he could enter.
He jumped in with a thud "Shit, sorry" he said, bringing up his index finger to his mouth. He didn't even give you the time to tell him that he didn't need to worry before he grabbed you and kissed you as if his life depended on it.
While his left hand found his usual place on your ass, he put his other one behind your neck pushing you against him.
You moaned softly as his tongue entered your mouth while he caressed your backside.
He started walking and you followed him until you felt the back of your legs hit the bed.
"Eddie," you said, leaning away from him "I have to study" you reminded him, raising your eyebrow. "Sweetheart" he said, pushing you on the bed, "I think you have studied enough for today" he said, getting on his knees in front of you, "In fact," he kissed your naked knee,  "I think you deserve a reward" he whispered, kissing your opposite knee. You sat up, and met his eyes, not being able to do anything but smile. You knew you had to study, you knew this test was important, you knew you would have hated yourself tomorrow, but he was there on his knees in front of you, looking at you like a starved man while his hands were caressing your thighs and a grin appeared on his lips. How, you asked yourself, how could anyone in their right mind say no to that?
"A reward?" you asked "What kind of reward?"
He smiled, realizing that he had won.
"I have a few ideas in mind" he said in a deep voice as his hands made their way up your legs, causing a shiver to go through your whole body.
they arrived at the edge of your shorts and he looked at you, licking his lips, while your breathing got faster. "I think we can take these off" he said, tugging your pants. You pulled your hips up to help him pull them off together with your panties.
He looked up at you with a smirk before looking at your already wet core and biting his lip. "Oh princess" he said coyly, kissing your left thigh, making you shiver "there are so many things I would like to do to you" he kissed your right thigh "but" he pulled you towards him, "right now" he placed his hands on your knees "I need to taste you" he growled looking up at you again.
"open up your legs for me sweetheart" he ordered and you obeyed immediately, not being able to form a single sentence.
he groaned before starting to kiss painfully slowly the inside of your legs,  stopping a few millimeters from where you needed him the most.
"You are so wet princess" he said, passing his index finger between your folds and bringing it up to his mouth to lick it clean.
He moaned as he did and all you could do was bite your lip.
He grinned at you and, without notice, he bent between your legs and licked your whole pussy slowly, savoring every inch.
"Oh my god!"You immediately moaned.
You felt his hot breath on your core as he chuckled "Aren't you scared Steve will hear?" he asked, before doing the same thing again.
"No one's home" you said, already out of breath.
He chuckled "Oh, this is gonna be fun" he murmured before diving down again. he took your clit into his mouth and started sucking it, making you moan even louder than before." You taste so good sweetheart" he said, thrusting two fingers into you without notice." Eddie!" you screamed, feeling him smile against your clit.
he went back to sucking your clit as he started moving his fingers in and out of you, curling them to hit your g-spot. "and you're so tight" he said, sending the vibration from his voice into your core, making you whimper.
he went back to eating you as he added a third finger, making you let out a  desperate moan, while his free hand traveled up your body and under your shirt, finding your breasts. You weren't wearing a bra so his left hand started to roam freely under your shirt, pinching your nipples between his thumb and index finger and stroking them almost aggressively.
You felt a familiar pressure form in your lower belly and you shut your eyes close, overwhelmed by the sensation.
"Open your eyes," he said stopping for a second "I want to see you when you come princess" he purred, diving right back in.
You obeyed and bit your lip so hard you thought you tested metal.
He was looking at you straight in the eyes from between your legs and you kept his gaze as you felt yourself come closer and closer to your climax.
"Good girl" he praised you, sending you over the edge.
Your orgasm washed over you as you moaned his name over and over again until it didn't make sense anymore.
He kept his pace up while you reached your climax until he felt you were actually done, leaning away from your pussy.
He took his fingers out of you and not even giving you the time to recover he brought them up to your face "taste yourself" he said, and you opened your mouth as he placed his fingers on your tongue, sucking them clean.
"so pretty" he whispered before getting on top of you and kissing you hungrily while he pulled your shirt off.
He stopped for a second and admired the view before him, smiling sincerely before taking his own shirt off.
he looked exactly like in your dream and just like in it, you reached out to explore his chest, as he watched you mesmerized.
You put your hand behind his neck and pulled him down for a passionate kiss, while, with your free hand, you fumbled with his belt.
He chuckled "We're impatient, aren't we" he said mocking you.
You nodded your head and he smiled before taking off his belt and his pants. You swallowed nervously as you looked down at the prominent protuberance you could see in his boxers.
He grinned at you before taking them off.
"Oh fuck" you whispered nervously as you eyed his penis "I'll go slow princess," he reassured you, kissing you briefly one last time before putting on the condom he had taken from his trousers and positioning himself between you.
You held your breath as he slowly started to enter you.
" fuck" you cried out, feeling the burning sensation get worse and worse as he kept going in. You gripped his bicep.
A tear escaped your eye as you bit your lip "J-Just do it" you pleaded him.
"as you wish sweetheart," he said, thrusting into you with one rough move.
"You did it" he said softly, wiping away your tear.
You smiled at him, starting to adjust to his length."You can move"
He kissed you gently as he started to move slowly, not wanting to hurt you.
You moaned, feeling filled completely, as if you were made for each other, to fit perfectly.
"Oh fuck, E-Eddie" you moaned again as he started to go faster.
The room filled with the sound of your skin slapping with each other and with the moans escaping from your mouth.
He started thrusting into you faster, making you bounce each time, as the bed started creaking.
"You feel so good princess" he said winded.
You could already feel yourself close to coming
"Touch yourself for me" he ordered, while thrusting into you.
Your hand came down to your clit and you used two fingers to circle it, breaking out in a moaning fit.
"Fuck, I can feel you are close sweetheart. Come for me" he said, making you reach your climax.
you felt his thrusts get sloppier as you came down from your high and you knew he was close.
He pushed himself into you twice again, before coming with a loud groan and collapsing onto you.
You chuckled as you kissed his cheek "You were right, you are a really good teacher"

my love mine all mine — partner? [ 0.2 ]
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
pairing : akutagawa x afab!reader
a/n - this story is HEAVILY based off of horimiya ! if this makes you uncomfortable, please DO NOT read this smau :) also in this smau, reader goes by Y/n Nakajima!
warnings : none | chapter below the cut ! | taglist is OPEN !
previous | next
This makes me realize all over again how off I was about Akutagawa's first impression— Sure, he is cold to others but he was always so nice to me.
Tumblr media
Since Akutagawa started coming over, I've learned a few things..
1) He isn't really an otaku
2) His family apparently runs a bakery.
3) He pierced himself with a safety pin in middle school.
4) he's not a terribly good student
You and Akutagawa switched test scores, and Inumaki was closely inspecting yours. "Nakajima-san, you're amazing! These are almost all in the 90's!"
"I-It's nothing special-" You retorted back at him while stretching. "anyways- aren't quiet people with glasses usually good with school?"
"I don't know- Are they?" Akutagawa asked while still looking at your test papers.
"What is this?" Atsushi asked. "Final exams, if you fail you have to take make-up exams," Akutagawa explained as he held up his tests comparing it to yours.
"Atsushi doesn't understand that stuff yet.." You mumbled.
"DO TOO!" Atsushi yelled at you.
You then started explaining the math basics to Atsushi and he was all confused. Akutagawa started laughing at him too but you decided to backfire the whole thing on him.
"People who can't even find their way around the basics shouldn't laugh" You joked, as your hand made a way to your hand to hide your smile.
"Do too! I know it!" Akutagawa defended, putting his hand to his chest in a panic.
"Are you sure? Because the only good grades you have are in health and physical ed...." You said as you held up up his papers to show him.
"Maybe I'm just good at finding my way around the human b—" Akutagawa paused, "Don't finish that– the way you sad that sounds wrong,"
You heard Atsushi ask Akutagawa what health and physical ed was, as you grabbed the supermarket flyer to take a look at this week's deals.
This makes me realize all over again how off I was about Akutagawa's first impression— Sure, he is cold to others but he was always so nice to me.
Tumblr media
"Everyone gather up in partners of 2! You will need a partner for this assignment," The science teacher announced.
Akutagawa held his head down and his hands in his own. As always, Akutagawa would have no partner in the end. He hated the whole "partners" thing. He waited in the back of the class waiting for the moment your teacher would realize he didn't have a partner.
"Hey! Someone partner up with Akutagawa, he's all alone again!" A student whispered.
Akutagawa felt tears form in his eyes, once again since he already knew that he wasn't going to be able to get a partner.
He kept his head stuck to the floor, then there was a sudden had that reached out to him.
"Do you wanna be my partner?"
Akutagawa looked up at who's hand it was, be placed his hand in theirs, while your eyes lit up and gave him a warm chuckle.
He had a light grip on yours just incase you were doing it as a joke, but your eyes lit up and your lips curled up into a smile. Your hand tightened on his hand as you took him with you to your desk.
"No way! Nakajima-chan is gonna be partners with Akutagawa..."
Tumblr media
"Nakajima-san, are you alright?" Akutagawa asked as he waved his hand infront of you, he noticed that you spaced out, being lost in your thoughts.
You hummed before speaking as you were trying to form the words but you just couldn't. you awkwardly giggled before answering, "Sorry— I just remembered something from a long time ago,"
"Is it that bad...?" Akutagawa asked as he shifted back in his seat as Atsushi was getting comfortable on his lap.
"Oh, it's noth— it's not nothing— it's just a memory of a boy from when I was in elementary school," You said as you stretched in your seat, with Akutagawa's eyes watching every movement you were making.
"I remember this boy I became friends with in elementary, we— had the same class of course, we got really close but i moved away and i promised him that we'd see eachother again...." You explained as you grumbled the last part of your sentence.
"I just hope he remembers me," You whispered as you formed a sad smile on your face.
"We had matching bracelets too!" You pointed out, you put the supermarket flyer down as you held out your wrist to show Akutagawa your matching bracelet, his eyes widened when you showed it to him.
He had the same exact bracelet in his jewelry box at home but he wasn't too sure if he was going to say something. He's been searching for you all this time but he couldn't say that he found you, you found him.
"I bet he's doing great, he probably thinks about you from time to time too," Akutagawa reassured you as he warmly smiled at you.
"I hope he does."
You picked the supermarket flyer again to look back at tomorrow's deals, since you really didn't look at it the first time. "What's that? a supermarket flyer?"
"Yeah! There's a timed sale on eggs tomor—" You paused as you turned to look Akutagawa but his face was next to yours. Your ears flushed pink but you wouldn't help but look at his eyes.
His eyelashes were rather long and his eyes were hypnotizing to look at. You didn't notice he was looking at you until Akutagawa called out your name, "Nakajima-san?"
Fuck, I stared to him without realizing it....
"As I was saying! There's a timed sale tomorrow, eggs will be cheap and there's no limit per person!" You explained as ou got excited.
"But this ends at 4pm right? You'd barely make it if you go right after school"
"Nah, It'l be fine!" You cheered, "Just as long as there isn't an emergency committee meeting or anything, I'll be able to go hustle us some eggs!"
Tumblr media
There was a sudden voice on the romcom, "All committee members please report to the AV room immediately," You had your hand to your head you started to feel stressed out and started sulking.
what's with the timing?!
tears formed in your eyes as you started to type aggressively on your eyes.
i still...
can't give up!
as soon as you hit send, you ran out the classroom to the committee meeting. akutagawa's phone rang and it was a text message from you.
"timed sale eggs, tag your it!" akutagawa now felt pressured at the limited time he has to get there and to get the eggs.
your classmates turned to look at akutagawa for his classmate's reports but he vanished within thin air. he was running down the school halls trying to get to the supermarket in time.
shit it's already hot outside and i have to run too..
akutagawa moved his sleeve to take a glance at his watch, noticing that he only had 20 minutes left.

It's a Date - Peter Parker x (Y/N)
Peter Parker x fem!reader
Warning: slight mention of blood, use of the word pen!s
Summary: Peter never really noticed you until he couldn't help it.
You never really kept your head down, but you never stuck out either. Midtown High School was the sort of place where it was easy to do that. You had just a few friends, no particular love life (unless you counted the failed "relationship" in seventh grade. Which you did not.) and grades that were good enough to keep the school counselors at bay.
You sighed as you reached your locker and pulled your earphones out of your ears, interrupting the Everybody Talks song by Neon Trees. You liked listening to music as you walked to school. Turning up your volume to drown out the street noises of Queens and just walking.... It might not seem much to others, but to you, it was bliss. Then again, it made getting to school and having to stop the music all the more undesirable.
Someone knocked you into the wall as they ran by. You gave a sarcastic smile. Flash Thompson, the most repulsive specimen of Midtown. He had tried to mess with you on your first day, but shame on him for trying. You might prefer to be quiet but you certainly didn't pull your punches. Flash learned that the hard way.
"What's up, Pen!s Parker!" the boy shouted as he ran by. Your eyes slid to his unfortunate target, a boy you knew by sight, but not by name. Well. Now you had learned at least one of them. Pulling your gaze away from the scene, you grabbed your books and hurried to science class.
"Hey!"
A bright voice next to you yanked you into reality, startling you. "Oh jeez, Betty! You scared me!" you cried, clutching your chest. "Yeah, yeah," your friend dismissed this and hooked her arm around yours. "So?" she asked, a mischievous smile playing on her lips. "Who are you going with?" You rolled your eyes as you realizes Betty was referring to the homecoming dance, which was a few weeks away.
"Oh, I don't even know if I'm going to go," you said quickly. Betty's eyes widened. "You're kidding, right?" she cried. "(Y/N), this is the opportunity of a lifetime! Are you really going to throw that away to spend an evening alone in your room reading and listening to Taylor Swift?" You clutched at your heart, pretending to stagger. "Rude," you laughed. But your friend had hit very close to the truth.
"Seriously, though, (Y/N)," your friend said after she finished laughing. "You need to put yourself out there more. You have so, much potential," she giggled, poking your shoulder after each word. "You could become part of Midtown's next it couple?"
"You're sure you didn't fall off your bed and hit your head last night right?" I asked sarcastically. "Me? The next it girl of this place?" Betty groaned and rolled her eyes. "Don't tell me you can't imagine it, (Y/N) (Y/L/N)," she said, "because I sure can. See you at lunch!" And with that, Betty had sped off in the direction of the gym.
You rolled your eyes at your retreating figure. It girl.... How was that even going to be possible, nobody even liked you.
But nobody even knew you, you realized as soon as you thought this. Betty was right, you never really put yourself out anywhere. People had to approach you to know you weren't the type to cross, or that you would give them the answers to a test if they were nice enough, or which teachers you really hated. You never really let yourself show. Only Betty knew you, as well as a couple of other friends, only some of which went to Midtown.
These thoughts occupying your mind, you didn't really notice where you were going until somebody tapped you on the shoulder. You turned and saw Ned, a boy with whom you only had maths. "Hey, (Y/N)!" he said brightly. "Oh, um, hi, Ned," you greeted him breathlessly. A slight frown appeared on his face as he gestured behind him. "Aren't you supposed to be in science?" You slapped a hand to your forehead as you realized you were about a dozen paces past the lab. "Oh crap, thank you so much, Ned," I said gratefully. "Yeah," he replied amiably. "Oh, and besides saving you, I wanted to ask you a question." You laughed and asked, "What is it?" Ned smiled. "Do you maybe want to sit with me and Peter? Peter Parker, I mean, he's my best friend, and I think you're really cool, so-"
"Yes," you interrupted, laughing. "I'll come sit with you, Ned." Ned gave a small smile and nodded. "Ok, cool! See you at lunch, alright?"
"Yeah," you said, waving at him before hurrying into the lab. You couldn't resist giggling to yourself as you slid into your seat. Ned was a nice guy, you had gathered that much from your limited time with him, and Peter hadn't seemed too bad from what you had seen . You doubted Betty would be over the moon when you told her, but at least it was guys, which should be enough to please her.
"Good morning, class!" the bright voice of your teacher rang in your ears as the bell rang and the day began. You pulled out your textbook wearily.
At lunch....
You completely underestimated Betty's reaction. She positively squealed when you told her about Ned's invitation, and her eyes nearly popped out of her head when she learned Peter would be there.
"I mean, they're cute in that, like, nerdy way," she said. "And Parker could be a catch, I guess. It's a start, though! I'm so proud of you. Before you know it, you'll be dating a disgustingly cute jock. Go (Y/N)!" She said the last words so loudly that people looked around to see who it was, while you shushed her, scandalized.
"I don't want to date a disgustingly cute jock," you told her as you entered the cafeteria. "I'll be fine if he's just a good guy." Betty rolled her eyes. "You read way too many YA romance novels." You grabbed a tray and went to stand in line to get lunch. "I'll have you know I only read enemies to lovers YA romance," you told her. She laughed and took a tray, too, but before she could speak, there was a violent crash which shook through the large room.
You looked up, startled, just in time to see Flash stepping over his fallen tray and yanking Peter Parker within inches of his face by his collar. "What did you say to me, Pen!s Parker?" he roared, spraying the boy with spittle.
Peter tried to speak, but he was interrupted by a seemingly livid Flash. "You think I'm a joke, huh, Parker? You want to tell all your little friends I'm a joke? Oh, that's right!" he said, laughing cruelly. "You only have one." He looked up at the terrified looking Ned.
"Alright, that's it," you muttered as you dropped your tray to the ground and started towards them. You were so angry at Flash that you didn't hear Betty's hiss of warning, just his smug stupid face as he looked up at the clatter of your tray.
"Get off him, Thompson!" you called as you walked towards them. You could see Flash freeze for a second, then rearrange his face into a self assuring smile. "So what's it to you, (Y/N) F-"
"Ah, ah, ah," you interrupted him just as he was about to voice the cruel nickname he had come up with for you in your first week here. "I think you well remember what happened the last time you called me that." Flash reddened as he remembered, and his nose twitched a little as though remembering being broken.
"You wouldn't dare," he said. "Not in front of everyone."
"Get off him, Flash, and you won't have to find out."
Flash scoffed. "Really? That's what you're going for? I'm supposed to believe that you would risk detention to defend this clown-"
You didn't want to give him the satisfaction of laughing. Before he could even finish his sentence properly, you balled up your hand into a fist and swung it at the bully.
There was a crack as your knuckles made contact, and a groan from Flash mixed with a gasp from the rest of the room. "You'll pay for that one, (Y/L/N)," he grunted and hurried off to the bathroom, clutching his bleeding nose.
"Are you ok?" you asked Peter as he struggled to get to his feet. "Um, yeah," he said. "Thank you for standing up to him. But I don't want him to be a jerk to you because of what you did."
"Oh I think he knows better than to mess with me," you said, smirking after Flash. There was a pause, before Peter said, "Hey, it's (Y/N), right? Ned invited you to sit with us?"
"Yeah," you said. "And you're obviously Peter Parker." He laughed and nodded. "Yeah, I am. So.... Do you want to sit down?"
Ned came forward. "(Y/N)! Dude, that was amazing! You were so good!" You laughed as we all sat down. "Seriously though," Ned continued. "You totally kicked his a-"
"Will (Y/N) (Y/L/N) please report to the principal's office," a mechanical voice carried through the school. You giggled. "Looks like that's my cue," you said and stood. "See you later, boys."
"Wait!" Peter exclaimed. You turned. "Yes?"
"Would you...." The boy rubbed the back of his head awkwardly. "Would you maybe want to go grab lunch with me tomorrow?" You smiled, trying not to overdo it. I felt like jumping a foot into the air. Peter Parker had just asked you on a date. No, it can't be a date. He just said "grab lunch". That isn't a date. He probably means just a casual hangout. You must NOT call it a date.
"Sure!" you said as casually as you could. "It's a date."
Dang it!

Not long ago, someone asked me to share more about Vernon. Today, I'll do that.
Vernon was really a good man, those that didn't really know him wouldn't say that, though. Vernon didn't let people in so easily. He was the kind of person that had to know you for years before he would let his guard down, and even then, he only let it down a little. And, that was to see if he could trust you. I saw many people fail that test.
He only had a sixth grade education but he was one of the smartest men I ever met. He was street wise and had a lot of common sense. I remember going to him with a math problem I had for homework. I said, Daddy what is the answer to this math question? He looked at it, in a couple of seconds he gave me the answer. I asked, how did you come up with the answer so fast? He said, numbers never lie, son. Then he said, look at the problem, you are either going to add, multiply or divide the numbers, once you know which you are doing, then apply it and move on. I said, but my teacher wants me to write out a formula on how I got the answer. They call it new math, Daddy. He laughed, then said. There's nothing new about math, Billy. I thought for a moment and realized, he was right.
Vernon had trouble going to sleep, just like Elvis. I can't count how many times I saw him watching TV late at night. I'd come downstairs, at the Dolan house, for a drink of water and he'd be setting in his chair watching TV and he'd have a small glass of whiskey sitting next to him. I'd always ask, what ya watching Daddy? He said, I'm not really watching anything, just trying to make myself sleepy. Sometimes I'd stop and look at the TV, he would say. Get your drink and get to bed. Remember, you have school tomorrow. I'd say, yes sir.
He was also one of the funniest men I ever met, also. I see where Elvis got his sense of humor. Vernon could make just about any situation funny. But, what was really funny was on rare occasions, Vernon and Elvis would sit and tell the funniest stories you've ever heard about the early days, together. I cherish those stories.
The one lesson, and there were thousands of them, that stayed with me was this. It was about work. He said, Billy you have to do better than those you work with. If you don't people will say, he only got this job because of who he's related to. And, when they say that you can look them in the eye and say, no I got this job because I'm good at what I do.
Now, we get to a little bit of a touchy subject. What did he think of the guys working for Elvis. I'll say this and say in a way that shouldn't hurt anyone's feelings. There were some he liked and some he didn't. Don't bother asking who those he didn't like, I won't say.
In closing, Vernon wasn't anything like the character in the new Elvis movie. He was strong, funny and loving. I'm glad I got to see the real man, and not what everyone else saw. He was a good step-father/father to me. I learned a lot from him, and I think about him often.

make us a special place (Robin x Nancy)
a/n: I haven't written in a long time, but then someone said childhood au and here we are.
Big thanks to @dimplesridley and @redwineandnicotine for listening to me yell about these two for months on end.
summary: Nancy has a terrible day (until she doesn't)
AO3 link
(word count: 2,134)
Nancy has a terrible day, by far the worst she’s had all year. Sure, it’s only September, but fifth grade is off to a rough start. Everything that could go wrong does go wrong. She just knows that she failed that math test (she didn't but she doesn't know that yet – all she knows is how uncertain she felt about her answers). Somehow, she ended up with Mike's lunch instead of her own, and the sandwich was all wrong and there were no cookies. And worse – it means Mike got her cookies. The teacher had yelled at the whole class and punished all of them for something that one single boy did, which was totally unfair. And worst of all, Robin was absent for a doctor's appointment pretty much all day, giving Nancy a wave as she was called out of class in the morning. It left Nancy alone for most of the day, sitting by herself at lunch, partner-less for reading hour, walking home with no one to keep her company. When Nancy gets home, her dad is there, unexpectedly, and he is utterly himself – aloof and disinterested. Nancy immediately goes up to her room, drops her backpack, and flops onto the floor dramatically.
Robin has her own frustrating day, and she’s looking forward to seeing Nancy and getting away from her mom. When Robin finally manages to escape to the Wheeler house, she doesn't even ring the doorbell. She just comes right in (Karen had given her permission to, practically encouraged it, even). But before she makes it to the stairs, Karen waves her into the kitchen.
"Nancy had a rough day," Karen starts, and she fills Robin's arms with snacks and a couple of sodas. "You girls try to have some fun, and I'll call you down later for dinner, okay?"
Robin nods and Karen ruffles Robin's hair affectionately.  Robin pulls a face and ducks away like she hates it, but they both know she doesn’t.
When Robin gets up to Nancy's room, struggling to open the door with her arms full of junk food, Nancy is still on the floor by the bed, an arm slung over her face, covering her eyes.
"Mom," Nancy groans, "I said I don't want anything."
Robin dumps their haul on the bed. "Good thing I'm not your mom then," she laughs. "Because I brought so much stuff. Your mom even gave us cookies, Nance. Cookies. Before dinner."
Nancy pouts, lifts her arm up just a little bit to peek at Robin, who was staring down at her, one foot tapping against Nancy's. Robin drops to the ground after a moment, slides up next to Nancy and lays down with her. The floor is hard and Robin wiggles a little bit, one arm bumping Nancy's side, and it kind of tickles.
"How was the doctor?" Nancy asks.
Robin shrugs. "It was fine. Really boring. We had to sit in the waiting room forever." Robin knows the answer but she asks anyway: "how 'bout you? How was your day?"
Nancy groans. "Today was the worst day," she announces.
Robin tries to look over at her, but she's met with the sight of one bony elbow covering up her best friend's face. "Wanna talk about it?" she offers.
Nancy shakes her head and the motion makes her arm come dangerously close to smacking Robin in the face. "No," and she's still feeling so dramatic after her stressful day. "I'm just gonna lay here like this forever," she declares.
Robin hums, taps her fingers against her stomach, fidgets a bit before sitting up abruptly and crawling towards the closet. She starts digging around and just as Nancy is about to look to see what she's doing, a blanket lands right on her face, followed by a pillow.
"Oof," and Nancy finally shows her face, pushing the blanket and pillow off. Robin is already tossing more blankets and pillows out on the floor, every single spare one she can find tucked into Nancy's closet.
"What are you doing?" she asks.
Robin, satisfied she's retrieved all the blankets and pillows in the closet, stands up. "Making a blanket fort," she says like it should be obvious. "The floor is hard. If we're gonna be laying on it forever, it's gotta be more comfortable."
This is one of those little moments where Nancy feels her heart swell up when she looks up at her best friend, and she has to swallow the lump in her throat for the affection and warmth that flood through her. Robin never even asks, never protests, never presses Nancy; Robin just accepts that if Nancy wants to lay on this floor forever, that's what they are going to do.
There are two desk chairs in Nancy’s room, one of them a folding chair supplied by Mr. Wheeler, who was tired of Robin struggling to drag their dining room chairs up and down the stairs. Robin is already in the process of moving their chairs when Nancy starts to sit up. Robin stops her. "Whoa, no way, Wheeler. You're already in your spot, you're glued there forever," she says, affecting a dramatic voice that makes Nancy smile a little bit. Which just spurs Robin on. "Trapped by a very bad day. Alas, you must stay." Robin gives her a grin. "I got this, princess," she says, a little quieter but no less earnest, voice determined.
Nancy's cheeks turn pink and she lays back again.
Robin makes quick work of her fort. She drapes blankets over their chairs, which she sets a little ways from the bed, leaving enough space between the bed and the chairs for both her and Nancy, who stays put, just as she'd been told. Robin ends up having to tie some of the blankets together, big knots in the corners, to reach the bed. She piles all the biggest books she can find on top of the blankets to keep them on the bed. When she's satisfied, she drapes a thinner blanket over top, covering up the open spaces made by the knotted blankets.
This leaves Nancy hidden away from the world, surrounded on all sides by soft pinks and blues. (Because Robin has chosen some of Nancy's favorites for the inner layer and for the inside.) She hears shuffling outside and then Robin pops her head in, smiling.
Robin crawls in, bathed in the soft glow of the afternoon sun coming through the soft cream of the sheet facing the window. She has all their snacks in her hands and she drops them by the little entrance, ducks back out quickly to grab their drinks and add them to their pile of Karen-provided goodies.
Robin sits on her knees, ducks a little bit to keep from hitting the top of the fort she's put together in record time. She's holding a pillow, one of the big soft ones that she knows Nancy likes to sink down into. "So, you might have to move a little bit for this part," she bites her lip.
Nancy can't hold back her grin anymore, and she sits up fully.
Robin places the pillow in her hands carefully on the ground, right where Nancy's head had been, and then she grabs another pillow and drops it next to Nancy's. She places the other pillows around the outside of the fort, covering up some of the spots where the blankets didn't quite reach to the floor.
Nancy just sits there and watches her, still smiling despite herself. She shifts, leans back against the bed, tucking a pillow behind her.
Robin starts working on the remaining blankets next. She lays one out where Nancy had been, tucking the end under the pillow. Nancy is still sitting up from her initial spot, so when Robin tries to smooth out the blanket, it only gets halfway before it meets Nancy's knees.
Robin is determined though, and she gives Nancy a big grin before she starts poking the blanket, trying to tuck it under Nancy's leg.
Nancy can't stop from laughing before she moves, fixing the blanket herself until she's sitting on it.
Robin puts a blanket down for herself, pushes a couple off to either side.
"Your royal, I dunno, blanket," Robin laughs.
Nancy launches herself at Robin, throws her arms around Robin's shoulders suddenly. Robin tilts back, but steadies herself, returning Nancy's hug, arms wrapped around Nancy's waist.
Robin holds her there. She's never quite sure how long hugs are supposed to go on, so she almost always waits until the other person pulls away before she does. (The other person hugging her is almost always Nancy, and she's in no hurry to pull away from her anyway.)
But not only does Nancy not let go, she drags them both down to the blanket-covered floor until they're both laying down again.
They're facing each other, heads close together despite being on different pillows. Nancy's arm is still draped over Robin's shoulder, so Robin takes this as a cue that she can leave her own arm thrown over Nancy's middle. And she's glad for that, because it all feels right to her. Their legs are pressed together and Nancy's fingers are dancing across her shoulder. And there's nowhere else she'd rather be.
Nancy looks up at her from beneath her lashes, almost shyly. "Thank you, Robin," she whispers, like she's afraid to disturb the comfortable quiet between them.
"Any time," Robin whispers back with a soft smile. There's a warmth blossoming in her chest, spreading through her, filling up her insides until she thinks she's going to stop breathing. A feeling she doesn't know how to name, but one that feels better than any other has, more natural, like air or sunlight or warm summer rain. She grabs it and holds on tightly and hopes it will never end.
They lay there for a moment, and Robin's fingers drum lightly against Nancy's side.
"Hey, Nance?" she keeps her voice quiet to match the moment.
"Hmm?"
"They're homemade cookies," Robin whispers conspiratorially. "Your mom's homemade cookies," she adds, and her fingers squeeze Nancy, tighten for a second. "She gave us cookies before dinner, and I'm afraid if we don't eat 'em soon, she's gonna realize and take them away."
Nancy swats her shoulder, pushing her back a little, but she's still smiling. "Well, what are you waiting for?"
Robin sits up, finding the plate of cookies where she left them, and she brings it up between them. As she does this, Nancy grabs a blanket and tosses it over both their legs.
And that's where Karen finds them a little later when she comes to the door of Nancy's bedroom. All she can see are Robin's feet sticking out from beneath a blanket, but she can hear them giggling inside the little fort they've made. They don't hear her slip inside, so she quietly leaves. Downstairs, she puts together two plates of food. She gives Nancy an extra bread roll, covered in garlic butter and parmesan, just the way she likes, and she makes sure that the foods on Robin's plate don't touch. To Michael's jealous protests, Karen heads back to Nancy's room. She'll let them eat in the bedroom just this once (it will end up not being just this once.)
And it's worth it for the bright smiles on their faces when Karen announces her presence, crouching down and knocking on one of the desk chairs to get their attention. They're all cozy when she peeks in, all wrapped up in each other beneath a blanket. Robin is holding a book, had been reading aloud to Nancy, offering her own running commentary as she did so, just to keep making Nancy laugh.
"I brought dinner up," Karen tells them. Nancy gasps and Robin's eyes widen. "Don't make me regret it," she adds, passing them each a plate. A warning not to make a mess, but she's smiling as she says it.
She pulls the door closed behind her, leans back against it for a moment.
She hears Robin's voice inside. "Nancy, I love your mom. But I think someone must have replaced her with an alien or something."
"She's not an alien, Rob." She can picture Nancy's eye roll, can hear the laughter in her voice.
"I dunno. Cookies before dinner. And now dinner is in your room! I never thought I'd see the day."
"We've eaten in my bedroom."
"But not dinner, Nance. Not a whole meal! Nope, something's up in the Wheeler house."
Karen doesn't hear Nancy's quiet response but she does hear the laughter that follows, Robin's first and then Nancy's right after. They're happy, and Karen will let them have this, wants them to have this just a little while longer, as long as they can.

“I burn, I pine, I perish”
-Shakespeare, Taming of the Shrew
Those little brushes to the forearm, those small smiles, those hints of something left unsaid behind your eyes. Fred cherished each and every one of these instances. Fleeting moments that gave him hope that you could see him in the way that he saw you: ethereal, breathtaking, and as so much more than a friend. But he had difficulty believing he'd ever be that lucky. He had hope, sure, but he wasn't betting on it.
Conversely, Fred made you nervous. While you felt the crushing weight of desire to be more than friends with him, you couldn't actually fathom it. Any time you seriously thought about the implications of realizing your romantic feelings towards Fred, your heart hammered in your chest in a way that was likely not healthy. But keeping his company was an addiction you couldn't deny, so you sought to spend time with him any way you could, even assigning the most banal (or even hated) tasks to be spent with him. At least it gave you some glimmer of joy.
Fred, of course, felt at ease when you asked him to help you cram for your math test. "C'mon Freddie, I'll fail without you!" you whined.
Internally, he was shoving down a smirk at the thought that you needed him, that you were begging for his help, his time, his attention. Outwardly, however, he rolled his eyes, "What are you, five? You don't have to whine. And I'm sure you can do it without me."
You shook your head vigorously in response. "You and I both know I don't know what the hell is going on in that class. And I need someone to quiz me and make sure my answers are right. I can't trust my own answers."
"I'll think about it," he replied, even though he knew he'd say yes. He was just stringing it out to tease you.
"I'll feed you!" You burst out and he started laughing, "C'mon. My house, free snacks. Plus, my company." You grinned deviously, joking that that was your selling point. However, for Fred, it was all that actually mattered and he was sold long ago, before you'd really even asked him.
"Okay, okay, fine. You've convinced me." He pretended to let you win, as if he wasn't already wrapped around your finger.
Studying together. That's something that normal friends do, right? Even if it was at night…all alone in your house together. Right?
The nerves were getting to you despite this fact. Fred had been to your house plenty of times and while you outward tried to 'play it cool,' you actually spent hours planning, cleaning, and preparing any time he came over. Everything was just-so but also perfectly curated to look nonchalant. You tried your best not to let him know that your palms were sweaty or your heart was racing any time you thought of him.
You welcomed him into your home, snacks already set, and thanked him profusely for his time (you tried to hide your feelings, but you weren't really any good at it). "You really don't have to keep thanking me," he mused, "I'm already here. Not going anywhere."
"Right, yeah," you felt an embarrassed blush hit your cheeks but shoved it down as quickly as possible.
He put you at ease by focusing on the task at hand and forcing you to study, mercifully he didn't bring up your heightened state. Eventually, you fell into a rhythm and talked both about the math at hand, but also about the broader aspects of life. Soon, you were more focused on that part of it and became distracted from the math goals you had laid out. Joking with Fred and relaxing more, pushing him playfully and enjoying his smiling response. It became late rather quickly and you noticed your eyes tiring to the point that you had to put forth effort to keep them open. Fred finally steering you back to boring studies didn't help, either.
"Hey!" He snapped his fingers in front of your face, welcoming you back to a drowsy haze. "You can't fall asleep! We're only like, halfway through this chapter!"
"I am not falling asleep… I'm just resting my eyes," you said and he gave you a deadpan stare at your cliched excuse. "No, really! They're burning from reading so much."
"Uh-huh," he replied in a tone that indicated disbelief, "I can't believe you're quitting on me already."
"I'm not. Jeez!" You stood up and stretched, then plopped back down next to him. "There. All jazzed up now. Continue," you prompted, tapping the book in front of him.
Your magic wake up 'cure' lasted all of three minutes. You could feel your thoughts becoming disjointed and you were missing words from Fred's sentences as he spoke. Your responses started to become muted "uh-huh"s and agreeing, grumbling moans. Before long, you'd completely nodded off, head drooping down onto Fred's shoulder.
Luckily for Fred, you were totally zonked, because he sat up rigidly, panicking at your closeness. "Y/N?" He asked in a normal tone, before changing to a hissing whisper to repeat it. When you didn't stir, his thoughts immediately reeled; what was he to do? Part of him wanted to nudge you awake. Surely this was a mistake on your part and you'd loathe him when you woke, wondering why he didn't rouse you sooner. You'd probably both be embarrassed and then you'd have to take a huge step back in your relationship and everything would be awkward. And you wanted to pass this test, and he had vowed to help you. He couldn't just let you sleep through it, right?
However, the stronger part of him that won out screamed at him to let this last as long as possible. You'd never been this close before, and he didn't mind being your pillow when you looked so …sweet. You looked peacefully innocent, lips slightly parted to let your gentle breath through, warming the soft wool fabric of his sweater vest. He had resolved to let you sleep, (he justified it by saying that you must need the rest, or at least a break, if you were falling asleep on him!) but he didn't really know what to do with himself. He was afraid to keep skimming the book and jostling you awake. So, for a few moments, he just sat under the weight of your head and sweated bullets from his nerves. But watching the steady rise and fall of your chest while inhaling your scent, the languidness was contagious and he felt his eyelids getting heavier. Soon, his head started to carry the weight instead and he unconsciously laid against the top of your head, giving in to the comfort of sleep.

“I really want to kiss you right now.” “Then do it.”
The words tumbled out of Chrissy's mouth before she could stop them.
She had had a terrible day. Her mother found a pack of skittles in Chrissy's bookbag--she hadn't even gotten them for herself, she got them for her little brother, who had a sweet tooth--and Laura Cunningham had spent the entire morning screaming at her eldest daughter.
When she got to school, the fallout from her breakup with Jason was palpable. Her cheer squad talked to her gingerly, as though she were a bomb that might explode. The basketball team ignored her, save Patrick and Lucas who gave her sympathetic smiles.
And then she flunked a math test.
Really, considering the whole mess of things that had happened, a math test failure shouldn't be a big deal. But for whatever reason, she burst into tears and was sent to the nurse's office.
When she'd arrived, there was no nurse--but there was Eddie Munson, sitting on the nurse's bed, smoking a blunt.
"Shit," He scrambled to stub it out. "Shit. No one usually comes in here..."
She had to laugh at his expression, which looked like a child who had their hand caught in the cookie jar.
"Not even the nurse?" She said with a smile.
"Not if she can help it," Eddie laughed.
"I always wondered why it smelled like weed in here," Chrissy remarked and at this, Eddie's dark eyes gleamed. She wasn't going to rat him out.
"Well, it's not all me," He laughed. "Nurse Finch is a repeat client."
He suddenly noticed her tearstained face. "You okay?"
"Yeah," She fidgeted, uncomfortable under his gaze. "Just a bad day."
"Whole school's been abuzz about your breakup," Eddie noted.
"I didn't expect you to know about it," Chrissy replied in surprise. Eddie always seemed above petty gossip and high school drama.
"I have a vested interest in your relationship status," He grinned at her and she flushed all the way down to her toes.
"Why's that?" She asked breathlessly, taking a step nearer.
He hummed a little but didn't answer. She noticed the barest hint of a freckle, right under his left eye. She wanted to touch it.
“I really want to kiss you right now.”
She practically blurted out the confession. What on earth was wrong with her? Did the secondhand smoke make her lose her mind?
"Then do it."
She didn't know what response she expected, but it wasn't that. But she couldn't escape his gaze. There was a softness in his expression, but something challenging too. A dare. He didn't think she'd actually do it.
Chrissy Cunningham was tired of people underestimating her. So she surged forward and kissed him with every ounce of passion she could.
And he utterly melted.
