Prompts 2 and 3 for Supercorptober. Because Kara and the way hers and Lena's romance went on wasn't chill believe me =3
P.S. I also suck at colouring so I tried to make it stylish, with doubtful results XD But it is how it is!

Write (supercorptober fluff)
Great idea, walking into a Luthor’s office while solarflared, Kara thought.
It’s not like she could tell Snapper “no” to interviewing Lena Luthor - she was a rookie reporter, and she needed every article assignment she could get. Besides, walking into Lena’s office while solarflared was only risky if Lena both knew who she was and intended to harm her. After their first encounter… Kara just didn’t think either was likely.
But Rao, Kara was still kicking herself. After her last battle, Alex had told her to cool it with her powers to recharge. Now Kara was going to have to explain that she solarflared after a short flight across the city. Oh well, she thought, as she walked into Lena's office. “Well, I'm glad to see you decided to give reporting a shot,” Lena said, rising from her desk as the niceties were exchanged - Kara’s bus flub thankfully went unnoticed. “Although if you're here on the same day the president is in town to sign her Alien Amnesty Act, then…”
Kara grinned. “I must be here to ask the sister of Earth's most notorious alien-hater for her take on the president's executive order.”
“I want to show you something,” Lena said, barely containing her excitement as she tugged her desk drawer open, revealing a small device inside. “It's an alien detection device - it allows humans to find out who among them is not truly one of them.”
Kara’s jaw dropped as Lena removed the device from the drawer. “W-why?”
“It’s the best of both worlds,” Lena explained. “The aliens will get the amnesty they need, and people will be able to tell who they are when they need to.”
“Don’t… don’t you think this device will force aliens back into the very shadows the president is trying to shine a light on?” Kara said weakly.
Lena furrowed her brow. “If aliens want to be citizens, that's now their right. But… if humans want to know which of their fellow citizens aren't actually one of them, then that's their right too.”
Kara’s body was screaming run. Or fly. Not that she could, when she was solarflared. But this device set a panic through her veins - what were Lena’s intentions? “How does it work?” Kara asked weakly, as her mind frantically searched for an excuse to leave.
“A simple skin test,” Lena said, pressing her thumb to the sensor for a demonstration, watching the device flash green. “This device is going to make us a fortune. Unlike my brother, I'm going to do it for the good of the world.”
The good of the world, Kara thought, eyes falling on the device. She supposed that a woman steeped in a family of lies might rebel by seeking truth. Kara could see how one could think that simply revealing truth would be good for the world…
But this woman had no idea of the danger that the truth could put people in, if not carefully concealed. They simply didn’t exist in that kind of world.
Kara’s stomach dropped as Lena held out the device for her to try, a playful smirk on the CEO’s face as she encouraged the cub reporter to test the device herself. No heat vision, Kara thought, wishing she could simply fry a wire. It would definitely be too suspicious to leave now.
But the look on Lena’s face… Kara was certain that the CEO had no idea what was about to happen. She was misguided - and hopefully that’s all she was - but Kara clung to the fact that she didn’t seem to have a clue who Kara was. She was just a woman trying to take control of a narrative, desperate to turn away from her brother’s path.
And that gave Kara hope.
As Kara pressed her thumb down on the device, she prayed her instincts were right, that the woman wasn’t the monster everyone suspected her to be.
The device beeped, and Lena stared down, confused at the bright red that flashed in front of her. In that moment, her entire demeanor shifted, as she slowly - achingly, worriedly - looked back up at Kara.
Kara watched as the emotions flit across Lena’s face, a complicated array that passed in mere seconds as Lena realized what she had done. Kara could feel the pounding in her own heart - but there was no hiding the remorse on Lena’s face.
But Lena was clever, and Kara sensed what was happening as Lena’s eyes moved from Kara’s glasses to her ponytail, the CEO mouthing flew here on a bus silently. Discovering that Kara was alien was just a small step from knowing who Kara really was.
But hope continued to bloom in Kara’s chest, as she watched the concern in Lena’s gaze. Perhaps it was foolish to trust the Luthor so early, but Kara just sensed… she wasn’t sitting across from her nemesis. Perhaps they could rewrite the narrative.
“A super, at the mercy of a Luthor,” Kara said softly, rising from her seat, proud that her voice didn’t waiver. “I should be terrified.”
Lena’s eyes darted between Kara’s, but Kara gave a small smile that she hoped conveyed I believe in you, before turning and making her way out the door. Snapper would have to get his interview another day.
Lena stood silently at her desk for a moment, staring after the reporter in confusion and awe, before a small smile crossed her own lips. Lena reached down to her phone, tapping at a couple buttons. Had Kara had her superhearing intact, perhaps she would’ve smiled at Lena’s words.
“Jess, put me through to R&D. I need to cancel a product.”

Money
When Kara lands on Lena’s balcony at L-Corp, she’s here on a mission.
“Miss Luthor.”
Lena whirls around at her desk, clearly surprised by the visit.
“Supergirl. I wasn’t expecting you. Is there a problem?”
Kara stalks into her office, hands on her hips.
“Yes, I mean, no, not a problem, per se.”
“But?” Lena prompts, picking up on Kara’s frantic energy.
“I was meeting with the mayor this morning,” Kara starts, thinking back to being summoned by city officials to talk about the damage to some waterfront buildings that happened in the wake of Kara fighting off the latest rogue alien who attacked the city.
“Oh. Well, that’s unpleasant,” Lena quips. “He’s a useless sack of flesh in ill-fitting suits, at least as far as I’m concerned.”
“Um, I mean. Yes. But, that’s not why I’m here.”
Lena sits back down at her desk and motions for Kara to take one of the chairs across from her and waits for her to get to the point.
“Right, so, he said that you paid for the damage to the two office buildings by the pier.”
A small smile settles on Lena’s face. “I did.”
The confirmation makes Kara feel jittery. Why would Lena do that? It’s not like she was involved in the fight. It’s not her responsibility!
“Why?”
“Why did I pay for it? Because I can, Supergirl. My family has more money than they know what to do with. I figured it’s only fair to use some of it for good.”
Kara huffs. She doesn’t quite know how to argue with that, but it still feels wrong for Lena to pay for the damage Kara left behind.
Lena seems to sense Kara’s discomfort. The teasing smirk on her face softens into an understanding smile.
“You do so much for this city. You put yourself on the line every day. I have the resources to help, and it won’t even make a noticeable dent in my bank account. Let me take care of this, okay?”
Kara shifts around on her chair, still a little unsure about this arrangement.
“Okay, but, you have to let me make it up to you somehow.”
At that, Lena nods. “Let me steal a couple of your french fries tomorrow at lunch and we’re even.”
Kara can hear the finality in Lena’s tone. It’s not unfriendly, but it’s clear that Lena won’t be deterred.
“Fine. Okay. I’ll see you tomorrow then?”
Lena nods again and grins.
It’s not until Kara has launched herself into the skies above National City that it clicks. Lena has lunch plans with Kara Danvers tomorrow, not with Supergirl.
Lena knows.
Shocked and distracted, Kara crashes into a billboard. She wonders if Lena will pay for that, too.

"what does it all come down to? love? Love" ee cummings
or
sometimes it just takes something simple to explain something complex
----
The doorbell rang just as Kara was sweeping the last few crayons from the table into a small plastic container.
"Coming!" she called out.
As she opened the door, she realized not only was Alex there to pick up Esme but that Lena must have gotten off of work early as well.
"Hey," Lena greeted as they stepped inside together. "How was babysitting Esme?"
"Chaos, as always," Kara grinned, closing the door behind her friend. "But we had fun."
"Mamma!" As if on cue, Esme ran in from the bathroom where she had been washing her hands.
'Hey, kiddo," Alex knelt in front of her, smoothing back a stray hair from her face.
"Were you good for Aunt Kara?"
"Yup!" Esme nodded enthusiastically.
"We colored! And I learned new words."
"New words, huh?" Alex arched an eyebrow at her sister and Lena.
"I hope they're not the kind of new words you learn from your Godmother?"
She looked even more pointedly at Lena with a smile.
"Please, you just like to blame me for the ones she's already picked up from you."
"And that is one of the reasons I love you."
Alex walked over to grab Esme's coat from the chair and picked up one of the drawings off the table, unable to stop the laughter that came out when she saw what she must have just finished working on.
"Do you not like it." Esme looked up at her concerned coming up behind her.
Alex ruffled Esme's hair.
"Not at all. It's perfect kid. You did a wonderful job."
Alex picked up the drawing and walked past a confused Kara before taking a magnet and hanging the drawing right in the middle of the refrigerator before looking back at her sister.
"You might want to be careful what Kryptonian words you teach your Niece."
Kara didn't miss the idiots Alex whispered under her breath as she walked towards the door.
Esme apparently didn't either.
"Mommy says you're not supposed to call people that."
Alex chuckled as she gently helped her put her arms in her coat.
"And you're Mommy is absolutely correct."
Zipping it up with only minor difficulty.
"Now come on you... let's get some Pizza to bring home for dinner and not tell her I said it."
"Deal!"
Esme turned and waved goodbye, all of a sudden in a hurry with the now-promised prospect of Pizza.
"Bye Aunt Kara. Bye Aunt Lena!"
Alex reached to close the door behind them, but not before silently mouthing the word "idiots" one more time.
As the door shut, both Kara and Lena looked towards the refrigerator, and after a second, both lunged forward, but only one of them wound up with it in their hands.
"Ah-ah, too slow," Lena teased, plucking the drawing from Kara's grasp.
She held it up, studying the image like she would one of her blueprints.
Three simple figures were all holding hands, all drawn out in cheerful lines of different colors. Lena recognized herself, Kara, and Esme instantly.
"Looks like quite the artwork," Lena remarked, amusement dancing in her eyes. But then her focus shifted to the symbols etched next to each figure, and the letters next to them. They were elegant, even in chunky crayon. She had seen at least one of them before.
Kara bit her lip, the earlier playfulness giving way to vulnerability.
She watched as Lena's fingers traced the outline of the figure that was herself, then the smaller one next to it, running back and forth over where the hands were linked before hovering over the word 'ukiem' squeezed in between.
"Ukiem," she murmured, the syllables rolling off her tongue with unexpected ease as she glanced at Kara.
Kara fiddled with some of the other drawings still on the table, the papers rustling softly with each shuffle.
The room seemed to shrink.
"I must admit," Lena began, her voice steady despite the sudden tightness in her chest, "I am not always as well-versed in Kryptonian as I would like to be."
Kara shifted her weight from one foot to the other.
"But I know this one." She tapped the word gently. "Love right?"
"Esme and I were talking about family," Kara cleared her throat.
"About the words we use for family," she began, hesitant yet determined.
"About how we can tell them we love them."
"Family, huh?" Lena's voice held an air of curiosity, her gaze fixed on the colorful drawing again.
"Y-yeah," Kara stammered, her heart pounding in her ears.
"I don't know this one?" Lena confessed, her voice trembling ever so slightly as her fingertip pointed at the word on the page, Zhao, written between her and the other figure on the page. Smiling at the way Esme drew Kara's glasses just a little crooked.
"Zhao?" Lena ventured quietly, placing the word as carefully as she could on her tongue.
"Zhao." Kara smiled, echoed the words back with a quiet certainty.
She swallowed hard. "Not all love is the same in Kryptonese."
"So, family?" Lena pointed again to the words between her and Esme and then those between her and Kara. "And?"
Kara hesitated..."Something more."
"Is that what we are then?" Lena's eyes flickered with their own vulnerability now. "Something more?"
"I'd like it if we were," Kara conceded, taking a deep breath.
Lena's eyes softened, and a small smile tugged at the corners of her lips.
"I think I'd like that too."

Lena sighed, picking up the toy train from the floor. She must've told them to pick it a hundred times already, not that she was deluding herself that any of them would listen to her today, no, they were far too excited to be doing that. She shook her head and cleared the rest of the scattered toys on the floor, and reached her work table. She had a last minute file she had to send before she could be free for the day.
"Muuuuuuum!" The shout from the hall got closer by the second. "Mum look!"
Lena turned her head to see her six years old son wearing an elaborate pirate costume, holding their new puppy up in the air.
"Mum, look at Krypto!" He said, biting his lip in excitement, practically vibrating from joy.
The dog had colourful cloth wings tied around his neck and a little hoodie with a beak and painted eyes.
"He's a parrot?" She tried.
Connor nodded enthusiastically. "Jeju dressed him!"
"Very cute. Then you were free to clean up the toys I told you to collect?" She raised an accusing eyebrow.
"Uhhh…" He started, but was cut off by his sister who quickly appeared on his left.
"Mum, you're not ready!" Lori pointed at her mother with her little hand. She was dressed in a pirate costume as well. It was their family costume after all.
Lena smiled. She knew full well her daughter tried to distract her in order to help her twin, but it was a rather exciting day so she could let them go this once. "I'll be ready in a moment, there's still some time. Go help your Jeju with setting everything for our guests. They should be here soon."
"Okay!" They shouted in unison and disappeared from her view before she could say anything else.
Lena let out a small chuckle and finished her work. She turned to leave the room when she noticed the crooked picture on the wall and stopped to fix it. It was a picture from their wedding day both smiling as they stood under the chuppah dressed in white Kryptonian dresses, Lena's dress had a small handkerchief tied to hers with a small embroidered shamrock. An Irish tradition she thought was beautiful. They decided to make a multicultural wedding, they exchanged Kryptonian wedding bracelets they specially made themselves, along with rings. J'onn, who acted as the pastor, married them, and they both broke the glass together. The kids were there as well, laughing and dancing with joy and delight.
Lena smiled at the memory, and continued to their bedroom. The costume wasn't too complicated to put on, an important aspect she insisted on after the year they all dressed up as astronauts. Getting in and out of that costume was a nightmare, not to mention the kids were three at the time. Lena put on her captain hat and went to join her family in the living room.
"How Rrrr you my beautiful wife?" Kara asked her in a very exaggerated pirate accent. The twins giggled at the attempt.
"I'm fine, darling," she said with a smile as she walked closer to her. "How Rrrr you?" Lena smirked, side-eying the kids who started laughing at her poor pirate accent. She tried to keep a passive expression, that was made harder with their children's laughter and her wife's growing smile. Lena went to kiss her on the cheek when her captain's hat bumped into Kara's. After a long family discussion that involved more arguments than necessary, it was decided that both Lena and Kara would be the captains of the ship, and as captains it was very important that they wear the hats.

Supercorptober 2023 Day 4: Money
Read here on AO3
"Isn't that romantic?"
"What is?" Kara asked, so focused on her article that she didn’t look up from her computer until Nia gave her a little nudge on her shoulder.
"That," Nia said, dropping her voice to a conspiratorial whisper. She pointed surreptitiously to the man who had just stepped out of the elevator holding a modest bouquet of both white and red roses. He walked with purpose towards the desk cluster reserved for CatCo's revolving door of interns, his sights trained on the brunette whom Kara had seen earlier in the day being taught the ins and outs of the copier with a look of deep concentration on her face.
He did his best to hide the flowers behind his back before he approached for all the good that it did him because it seemed that she had caught a glimpse of him out of the corner of her eye before he could surprise her.
She goggled at him, clearly not expecting the visit but when he produced the flowers from behind his back a little shyly, she beamed at him and leaped out of her chair with enough force to nearly bowl him over.
“That is sweet,” Kara said. She smiled, feeling happy for them even though she didn’t know them. “And who knows," Kara said and glanced towards Andrea's office. "If she snags the junior reporter job he might be delivering flowers to her very own office someday."
Maybe,” Nia said, but Kara could tell from her voice that she believed such an outcome was a long shot. A fair assessment considering how picky Andrea could be. And with only one open junior reporter position up for grabs it meant that competition would be nothing short of intense. “He’d probably want to spring for a bigger bouquet for just such an occasion.  Nia smiled and snuck one more look at the happy couple before she glanced back towards Andrea’s office. “I should get back to work before Andrea comes out and makes an example out of me in front of the interns.” She rapped her knuckles on the side of Kara’s desk and set off back to her own
“He could always fill her office with flowers,” Kara suggested before Nia got too far away that she had to raise her voice. She did so almost absentmindedly, her focus had already shifted back to her article.
"Now that would be romantic,” Nia said as she kept walking. “But I don’t want to even think about how expensive that would be,” she called over her shoulder.
Would it be romantic? The answer seemed obvious but still, Kara found herself pondering the question intently while she tried to return to work. As if she didn't like the very obvious answer staring her in the face. Of course, it would be romantic.
So my office is overflowing with flowers…
That much was obvious. If a single bouquet was romantic, surely several dozen more than even that would be considered romantic. Looking at it in such an overly logical (and paradoxically illogical) way, Kara couldn't help but think of Brainy, believing he might try and break down the problem in a similar fashion.
But as distracting as the question was, it was Nia’s last comment that Kara found herself dwelling on long after she had left work. How expensive was it to fill an office with flowers? It sounded like the kind of esoteric problem you might see crop up on a particularly finicky math test. Because it wasn’t just the sheer quantity of flowers that would factor in, as well. There was also the unusualness of the request to consider. Not many flower shops would even be able to fulfill such a request, no matter how much they might like to.
She puzzled over the question while she ate dinner alone. Leftover takeout from her favorite Chinese place. As she chewed she made a couple of rough estimates. Tried to recall just how many flowers there had been in her office that day… She remembered that stepping into her office had momentarily taken her breath away. It had been like stepping into a fairytale and how she had never even tried to count them. It would have felt too much like trying to figure out how a magic trick was done. It would rob it of something essential, something beautiful.
Had she really never asked herself that before? It felt strange to think that it had only just now occurred to her. Both the enormity of the gesture and how much something like that must have cost. Maybe because she hadn’t wanted to?
She speared a potsticker on the end of her chopsticks and chewed it without really tasting it. It wasn’t just the flowers though.  There was the little matter of CatCo itself… What did it mean when your best friend bought you a company? But she already knew what it meant. A part of her had always known. It might have been the utter shock she had felt upon first hearing the news that had kept her from realizing it. Maybe it was Lena’s insistence that her buying CatCo was merely a business decision that she fully intended to make the most of even when Kara could see in her eyes it was so much more than that. Or maybe it was the simple fact that she was too afraid of what it might mean.
She had come within a hair's breadth of finally admitting it when Lena had sold CatCo to Andrea. When Lena had freely confessed just why she had bought the company. But then things hadn’t gone crashing down around them soon after that and the truth staring her in the face had been all too easy to ignore.
But what was stopping her now? When things between them had never been better? The answer came to Kara at once. Nothing. Absolutely nothing. Save for however long it would take her to fly to Lena's penthouse and maybe a few stops along the way…
Kara shouldn't have been surprised that Lena's penthouse was empty when she flew past. Not when Lena spent most of her nights working well into the night. Usually that would have bothered her. But not tonight. Tonight it felt right. It offered a kind of harmony that they might look back on fondly…
She touched down on the balcony and realized that she was already smiling when she saw Lena sitting at her desk. Whatever she was working on had her full attention and it allowed Kara to cross the balcony without Lena noticing. She knocked twice and when Lena looked up from her work she did so with a knowing smile on her face.
"How did you know it was me?" Kara asked when Lena opened the balcony door.
"I had a feeling," Lena said, stepping aside to let Kara inside. "And the list of people I know that can enter through my balcony starts and ends with you. Is everything okay?"
"Everything's great. I just hope I'm not interrupting you."
Lena shook her head and it was only then that Kara realized she had taken off her heels, the difference in their heights a little more noticeable. "I was just about ready to call it a night." She waved a hand at her computer. "I could work through the morning and I'd still have plenty of work left to do. Might as well get a few hours of sleep before I do it all over again." she joked.
"You shouldn't work so late," Kara insisted.
"Look who's talking," Lena said but nodded a bit apologetically. "I'll take a day off soon," she promised. "We can do brunch," she suggested with a smile. "My treat."
"It's always your treat," Kara said and knew that there would be no better opening than now. "And even when it's not you always know how to distract me when the waiter comes by with our bill so that you can grab it first. How do you do that?"
Lena grinned. "You're not the only one with superpowers," she joked.
"You spend too much on me," Kara said softly.
"Well, you do eat a lot," Lena said, still grinning although it started to fade when she saw that Kara hadn't joined her.
"You filled my office with flowers," Kara said. "I have no idea how much that must have cost you. I still remember how magical it looked. It was like stepping into the Land of Oz. So much color. It's one of the nicest things anyone has ever done for me, Lena."
"Kara..." Lena said, starting to blush. "You already thanked me for that ages ago. You don't have to do it again."
"I want to. You... You bought CatCo for me." She pursed her lips, feeling a tightness in her throat. "I never... I never really thanked you properly for that. How could I ever thank you for something like that?"
"Kara," Lena said, a little sternly, her cheeks now aflame. "It was n—"
"Don't say it was nothing," Kara pleaded. She shook her head and brushed at her eyes. Please don't say that. Don't try and diminish it when it means the world to me."
Lena nodded slowly and Kara could hear her heart beating a little faster, nearly keeping time with her own. "CatCo was important to you," Lena explained. "And I..." She took a breath and let it out slowly, looking everywhere but back at Kara. "I just like when you're happy," she said softly.
"I know," Kara murmured. "I feel the same way."
"Is that what you came all the over here to talk to me about?" Lena asked, and Kara could feel her trying to inject a little levity back into their conversation.
"Not exactly. Can you close your eyes for a second? Just one," Kara said, holding up her index finger to hammer home the point.
For a moment, Kara saw the polite curiosity on Lena's face and wondered if she might try and ask what for but when their eyes met, a small smile pulled at Lena's mouth and she shut her eyes.
"You can open them now," Kara said, looking the tiniest bit windswept.
"Oh my God..." There was a sharp intake of breath and Lena reached for Kara's arm as if she suddenly needed it to keep her balance. But when she clasped her wrist it was with a featherlight touch. "Kara, how did you?" she began to say but fell silent before she could finish her question. "It's beautiful," she said a little while later after she had taken in every inch of her office as if trying to commit it to memory, and for all Kara knew she was. "Like magic," she said and looked at Kara sideways and even that was enough to make Kara blush a little.
I bet it does look like magic, Kara thought. When Lena had closed her eyes her office had looked as it almost always did, fastidiously neat, the kind of mental image one might think up when imagining an office in a sprawling high-rise. When she opened them again her office was bursting with plumerias. Sprays of color in delicate shades of pink and white, vibrant yellow and blue as well as deep red and orange. And she still had one last trick up her sleeve... She reached behind her back in an obvious way to draw Lena's eye and pulled a bouquet from behind her back that she offered to Lena a bit timidly considering she had just filled her office with flowers.

Kara’s heart was racing as she stepped out of the elevator. She *knew* something was wrong when Lena sent her a single, clipped text message:
Come now. Need to talk.
The elevator opened directly into Lena’s penthouse, into her elegant, minimalist foyer. The room was dark, as was the rest of the penthouse, except for the light of a single candle. Lena sat on the expansive sofa in her living room, a box resting on her lap. Kara didn’t need to use her x-ray vision to know that it was lined with lead. Her heart sank.
“Come in,” said Lena.
Kara walked inside, waiting at a respectful distance. Lena was beautiful in candlelight, her hair so dark it dark it could drink midnight under the table, eyes sparing like chips of emerald and sapphire, chipped with gold. The light caressed her sharp jawline and made her expression severe and smoldering at the same time.
Kara had fantasies like this. Most of them involved more candlelight and more pale skin.
“I know what you are,” said Lena.
Kara’s heart skipped. She fumbled with her hands.
“You can drop the aw shucks, I’m a farm girl from Vaguely Canada routine, Supergirl.”
Kara’s heart dropped through her stomach.
“I can explain,” she began. “If you give me a chance. Lena, please, I’m your best friend.”
Lena’s eyes hardened. Very softly she said, “am I?”
“How did you find out?”
Lena reached over to her side table, swirled a glass of wine, and took a sip.
“Lex told me. After I killed him. For you.”
Kara swallowed, and took a step forward. “Oh my God. Lena, what happened? What did he do?”
“Stop,” said Lena. “No closer.”
Kara stopped, her chest tightening, tears starting to well in her eyes.
Lena looked down, then up.
“He was going to kill you, and I couldn’t let that happen, because I thought I was in love with you. Before I knew what you are.”
The words hit Kara harder than anything she’d felt before, punching through her heart like the Kryptonite stake that was probably resting in that box. No, it wasn’t possible. She’s been so careful, Kal has been so careful.
“Lex had proof, but I didn’t trust it. I had to find corroboration. That’s why I talked you into taking me to the Fortress, so I could download the records I needed and examine them.”
Kara swallowed. “I would have given you what you wanted if you’d asked.”
“No, you wouldn’t, because you cover your tracks. You tell everyone that your powers come from the sun, but you’re lying.”
Kara wrung her hands, looking out at the moon. It hung full, heavy and huge in the National City sky.
“Not exactly. We have our powers here because Sol affects us differently. It doesn’t…”
“It doesn’t destroy Kryptonian vampires like you and your cousin,” Lena finished. “It doesn’t weaken your powers in sunlight or burn your skin, so you have nothing to fear here but Kryptonite.”
Kara licked her lips, feeling her fangs aching in her gums as they often did when Lena Luthor was in the room.
“Have you ever fed on me? I know about the other powers, Kara. The ones you and your cousin haven’t told everyone one about. Like modifying memories.”
Kara started. “What? No. I don’t feed directly on humans. When I was younger, my human family took turns giving me a unit of whole blood a month. That’s all I need. We don’t need as much on Earth. I’ve never bitten anyone on Earth. Kal-El trained me not to when I arrived here. Lena, I promise, I’m not some kind of predator.”
Kara edged closer, and Lena put her hand on the box. Kara froze.
“Liar.”
“Lena, please.”
“Your cousin has been feeding on Lois Lane for years. Lex had proof. Very thorough proof. He’s not as slick as he thinks, your Clark.”
Kara looked down.
“It was her choice. It’s tradition for my people. When one of us falls in love, we…”
“What, start seeing your ‘lover’ as a glorified bag of cheeze-its?”
Kara shifted on her feet. “No, we turn them. Clark is going to turn her after they marry. She’ll be like us.”
Lena’s gaze bored into her.
“I had to know, and now I do.”
“Lena, I would never hurt you, or feed on you against your will. I never feed on anyone against their will.”
“You’re lying.”
“Lena.”
“Lex had proof of that, too,” said Lena. “You do feed. On criminals, on people you think won’t be missed, and on James.”
“James was willing,” said Kara. “The others… it hurts, Lena. Clark’s path is hard. Too hard. I’m not perfect. You can’t imagine what the thirst is like. It’s like a hot railroad spike in my gut. I need it.”
“I thought about this for a long time,” said Lena. “I had to look you in the eye and hear it from you. I didn’t know what to do. You feed on people’s blood, but the city… the world needs Supergirl. So what do I do?”
“You don’t have to do anything,” said Kara. “I can just go, or… I don’t want to go, Lena. I know you’re upset, I know you’re mad, but you asked me here for a reason. I know you want to give me a chance. What we have, our friendship, it’s bigger than this. It can survive this. I want it to.”
Lena sighed. “Kara, I killed my brother for you, in cold blood.”
Kara swallowed. “I know. I know you loved him. I’m so sorry. I wish I could have helped you somehow. Maybe if I’d told you my identity earlier, we could have saved him.”
Lena opened the box.
Kara jolted back, expecting sickly pustulant light to sear the flesh from her bones, but there was no Kryptonite in the box.
Instead there was a pair of silvery bracelets, resting on black velvet.
“I had to make sure you couldn’t see inside,” said Lena. “No peeking.”
Kara swallowed, hard. “Those are binding bracelets. Do you know what those are for?”
Lena nodded slowly.
“You can come closer now. Sit.”
Kara stepped around the coffee table and sat primly near Lena, at a respectful distance, hands folded in her lap.
Lena leaned back against the arm rest and pulled her inky black hair back from her neck, tilting her chin back. Offering.
Kara could smell her, the scent exploding in her nostrils. She could feel Lena’s pulse and her own began to throb in time with it, the aching in her gums exceeded by the pleasant ache between her legs.
“What are you doing?” Kara murmured.
“Offering.”
“Why?”
Lena reached out and caressed her bare foot along Kara’s calf. Kara couldn’t help it. Her fangs popped out against her will for the first time in ages.
“Does it feel good for Lois? When he feeds on her?”
“So I’m told. Our fangs secret a mild neurotoxin that has some pleasant effects.”
“How long have you been thinking about tasting me?”
Kara shuddered. “It’s not like that. You’re my best friend.”
Lena rolled her eyes. “You know, I used to think you were just oblivious, or very, very closeted. Now I get it.”
“Lena,” Kara said, more urgently.
Lena’s foot slid higher up Kara’s leg. “It must be hard holding back all that hunger. Surrounded by food you can never taste. Is that why you’re always stuffing yourself with potstickers? You’d rather be eating me?”
Kara swallowed, hard.
“Maybe. Yes.”
“I’m right here.”
“I won’t. Not unless you say it, Lena. Not unless you offer it. Explicitly.”
“Kara, do it. Take me.”
Kara lunged across the sofa, pulling Lena to her so she lay flat on the cushions, and drove her fangs into Lena’s throat as she ground her thigh between Lena’s legs. She knew what Lena planned and she didn’t care.
Lena yelped in pain from the puncture wounds, but her cry quickly melted into a pleasurable moan as she writhed beneath Kara, driving her nails into Kara’s back.
Kara drank slowly, gently, taking only a trickle and feeling Lena’s pulse in her throat. She’d wanted this for so long, she started to weep from the sheer release of it, tears streaming down her cheeks. Lena’s blood sang with magic, the taste of her more intense than the most exotic spices, more flavorful than the sweetest wine. It was better than sex, although now that she had Lena’s blood on her tongue, she was hoping that was on the menu, too.
She heard the click and felt the cold metal close around her wrist and sighed.
“So that’s your solution,” Kara whispered.
“Lex couldn’t make it work,” said Lena. “I always loved how much it pissed him off that his bastard sister has magic and he doesn’t.”
Lena closed the other bonding bracelet around her own wrist, and Kara instantly felt the weight of the connection, the power in it, and knew she was helpless. She didn’t care.
“Kneel,” said Lena.
Kara slid off of Lena and onto her knees, head bowed.
“There,” said Lena. “Now I know. I know the world gets to keep Supergirl and I know you’re not a threat.”
“I knew what you were going to do,” said Kara. “I let you. If this is what you need to trust me, I’m okay with it.”
Lena took Kara’s chin in her fingers and tilted her head up, leaning forward to meet her gaze.
“I could do whatever I want with you now. With a Kryptonian vampire under my control, I could rule the world.”
“You could,” Kara whispered. “You can make me do it whatever you please. You never needed magic for that. I would do it willingly.”
“I know,” said Lena, “but this is going to be a lot of fun.”
“I was a little worried you’d tell me never to see you again,” said Kara. “Or you’d demand I turn you.”
Lena laughed. “Darling, do you have any idea how much power I’d have to give up to become a vampire?”
Lena ran a hand down Kara’s arm, squeezing her bicep.
“Now, carry me to the bedroom and let’s see what you can do.”
Kara didn’t need to be ordered to do that.

Breakfast
Kara knows the best part of having a pregnant wife is supposed to be the baby at the end. It’s about the journey of her bringing a new presence into the world, to giving all their love to a precious little thing. Then getting to watch as they grow from a little alien-like blob into something receptive and adorable.
The miracle of life is not lost on her. But she would be lying if she said her and Lena’s eating habits finally aligning wasn’t coming in as a close second.
To Kara, it’s a nine-month-long solar eclipse. The marathon of all marathons that she has been training for her entire life on Earth. And finally, Lena is right there with her.
Quickly, they come up with a schedule that they share. First breakfast, or pre-breakfast, followed by second breakfast, first snack, lunch, second snack, first dinner, second dinner, and then, if it’s late, then dessert.
First breakfast is served at seven– marking the beginning of every day. It’s small (remember, this is a marathon, not a sprint) but it gets the job done. Kara always makes sure to wake up about ten minutes before Lena to blend up smoothies and grab a few granola bars so she can have them right away.
Three months in, Kara has become a pro at beating Lena’s morning nausea brought on by waking up to an empty stomach. And by month four, she’s started bringing first breakfast to Lena in bed because Lena’s tired enough as is— she shouldn’t have to get up when she’s hungry.
Second breakfast comes about an hour later. On the weekdays, it bagels or cereal they eat while getting ready for work. It’s what they scarf down before heading out the door (only after Kara’s leaned down to kiss Lena’s belly and tell her how beautiful she is).
But on the weekends, second breakfast is an event. So much so that Kara works on it while simultaneously preparing first breakfast.
Second breakfast is pancakes with the fancy farmers market syrup. It’s a side of scrambled eggs on the days when Lena’s stomach isn’t quite so angry and cold apple cider in the fancy glasses they never get to use. For second breakfast, Kara puts out flowers and sets the table, then returns to wake Lena up (she always falls back asleep after first breakfast) just in time to eat.
Each week, she knows it’s coming. But each week, Kara manages to sweep her off her feet all over again.

“Hello, gorgeous. Come here often?”
“You could say that, my girlfriend happens to be a recurring customer”
Sliding the glasses up on her girlfriend’s nose, Lena leaned in and pecked her before offering that they called it a night, giving the hero slurring her words.

Enchanted (idiots in love)
“Try something fun,” Nia had said. “Get your mind off science,” Nia had said.
Lena huffed as she flipped through the pages of her spellbook, scrawling notes in her notebook. Science was fun. Labwork was soothing, data analysis was exhilarating, and tinkering solved that itch deep in her bones. She wanted to understand, and science was always there for her.
… except for right now.
It just didn’t make any sense. The double-slit experiment should have produced a diffraction pattern - or at least two straight lines, if somehow magic behaved as a classic particle. But magic did neither. Instead, it either caused a damn fractal or did not seem to pass through the slits at all. How the fuck does this work?
Nia - knowing full well what it was like to struggle with capricious and chaotic powers - had suggested that Lena take a break, try something fun with her magic instead of constantly churning through its utility or its inner workings. The thought made Lena grumpy, but she was out of experiment ideas at the moment - so there she was, flipping through her mother’s spellbook, trying to find something… fun.
Lena continued her grumble, trying to get her mind off her experiments - maybe magic is some sort of phasic neutrino nonsense - and turned her page to a pair of spells that always caught her eye, though she would never admit it. It’s not as though she would ever use the spells for LUST and OBSESSION anyway.
Still, it was interesting, where these two spells lay. The spellbook wasn’t organized alphabetically or in any other methodical fashion - instead, the spells near each other always seemed thematically related. Malicious spells were grouped together, as were benevolent spells, as were helpful spells, often with some illustrations in between to separate the groups.
It always amused Lena that there were only these two spells in this cluster - OBSESSION on the left side, LUST on the right, in nearly the exact center of the book. There was nothing else… no love spell, she thought to herself. Not that she’d ever use it, even if there was a certain kryptonian whose affections she yearned for.
“Are you okay?” came a familiar voice.
Lena looked over her shoulder, finding Kara walking down from the balcony entrance. “Kara,” Lena said, feeling a little lighter as the blonde entered the room. Romance or not, the kryptonian always managed to put a smile on her face. “I’m fine.”
“That’s not what Nia said,” Kara said with a patient smile, halting at the foot of the table, as her hands rested on her hips.
“She has a big mouth,” Lena mumbled.
“She said you’ve been frustrated,” Kara said with a small laugh.
“None of my experiments are working,” Lena grumbled. “Magic acts like nothing I’ve ever seen…”
“You can’t always learn new skills from first principles-” Kara began, before her drifting eyes suddenly halted on the book.
Lena’s brows furrowed in curiosity as she watched a rose tint rise in Kara’s cheeks. Confused, Lena followed Kara’s gaze to the spellbook, before remembering… Obsession and Lust. “Oh, no, no-” Lena started, reaching over to the book to close it. “Not that type of frustrated…”
“W-well, it’s okay if you are,” Kara said, stuttering.
“I’m not, I’m- I’m fine.”
“You don’t need a spell, Lena,” Kara said, her embarrassment tempered by sincerity. “If you wanted someone. You could have anyone.”
“I- I wouldn’t use a spell, Kara!” Lena said. Goodness knows her brainwashing days were well behind her. “There’s not even a love spell in here anyway.”
“No, there wouldn’t be,” Kara said pensively. “Love can’t be forced.”
“I’d want it to be real anyway,” Lena said, her fingers drifting over the book’s cover as she tried to fight the heat rising on her face. But Kara’s comment was… interesting. “How do you know it can’t be forced?”
“Just a conversation I had with an imp once,” she said, a fond - if perhaps a little sad - smile tugging at her lips. “Love has to be found. It doesn’t work otherwise.”
Lena hummed noncommittally, rising from her seat.
“You’ll- you’ll find it, Lena. Like I said, you could have anyone.”
“I don’t think that’s true,” Lena said softly.
“Lena,” Kara said, suddenly concerned as she closed the distance between the two, taking Lena’s hands into her own. “Lena, I’m serious. You’re kind, and so smart, and beautiful-”
“Kara, please,” Lena said, finally meeting Kara’s eyes again.
Kara eyed Lena, shifting anxiously on her feet. Lena tilted her head, curious as to the kryptonian’s newfound nerves. With a pursing of her lips, a determined gaze, Kara nodded to herself, giving Lena’s hands a small squeeze.
“You don’t need a spell to enchant me,” Kara said, her voice shaking. “You don’t need a spell to enchant anyone.”
“Enchant-” Lena paused, her eyes darting between Kara’s.
“I’m not- I’m not expecting us to change, Lena. I just want you to know. Anyone would love you, you just have to put yourself out there, to find the person you want.”
Lena raised her hand to cup Kara’s cheek. “Kara…”
It was sweet, how shy Kara was, how her cheeks burned red - Lena was sure that hers was a matching shade - and yet the kryptonian sought only to give comfort. Lena smiled, as she tilted Kara’s head up, as the kryptonian looked back at her with those deep uncertain blues.
Lena smiled. “You enchant me too.”

Kara
It starts innocently enough.
When Kara gets to the Tower one afternoon, she spots a large Tupperware container on the shared table in the middle of their break room. It’s full of cookies and cupcakes. But when Kara gets closer, she sees it: a large pink Post-It note that reads “Cookies are for the bake sale at Esme’s preschool. DO NOT EAT!”
Disappointed, Kara shrinks back from the container. She spends the afternoon distracted, thinking about baked treats, until Lena pulls her aside and asks her to go for a walk. The walk ends up being an excuse for Lena to buy Kara a coffee and three extra large cookies from the food truck at the edge of the park.
But then, it keeps happening.
Kara opens the communal fridge at the Tower a few days later and finds a couple of containers inside that are clearly labeled. One says “Nia’s lunch”, the other spells out that it contains an experimental energy gel that Brainy has been eating whenever he works overtime.
Kara frowns. This is a new development. And sure, maybe she has a bit of a history of eating whatever is available, at times raiding the fridge and eating everyone’s leftovers. She can’t help that there are moments when a fight leaves her exhausted and hangry. But to think that her friends are starting to leave passive-aggressive notes on their food to keep her away? It stings a little.
Kara doesn’t confront them. Instead, she simply observes as more and more Post-It notes appear, warning her to stay out of boxes of donuts or a selection of cheeses, and even leftover noodles now have names attached to them.
It makes Kara grumpy.
It’s about two weeks later when Kara returns to the Tower after a particularly grueling fight with a Dominator. After a quick medical check, Alex tells her she’s free to go and leaves her to her own devices in the med bay.
Kara is about to slide off the bed she’s been sitting on when Lena touches her elbow to get her attention.
“You look spent. Why don’t we find you a little snack and then I’ll take you home?”
“It’s fine,” Kara grumbles. “I have food at home.”
“I know you do. But you look like you’re about to pass out. Come on.”
Before Kara can protest, Lena has pulled her into the lunch room.
“Lena, I, there’s nothing here for me.”
“What do you mean? Of course there is. It’s a fridge full of food. Look!”
Kara throws her arms up in the air and lets them fall back down. “But none of it is mine! It’s Nia’s lunch, or Kelly’s donuts, or, or, cookies that are meant for some special event.”
Kara is about to turn around and head out when Lena opens the fridge and Kara sees that it’s full to the brim with all kinds of different food. There are at least three boxes of pizza, a couple of paper bags that she knows are from her favourite Chinese restaurant, and then she spots an entire shelf of pastries. But the thing that stands out most is that each item features a bright green Post-It note and they all say “Kara”.
And maybe it’s the day’s exhaustion finally catching up with her, or maybe it’s the knowledge that Lena has made sure that all of her favourite foods are here, but when she looks back at Lena, her vision is blurry with tears.
“Thank you,” Kara manages to croak out.
“You’re welcome. Now come on. Let’s eat.”

Kara
Supercorptober 2023
The shortest poem is a name.” —Anne Michaels
----
Kara tried not to wince as Esme put another band-aid onto her arm, the brightly colored cartoon dinosaurs all but mocking the rest of the pain they couldn't possibly cover.
"Thanks Bug."
She tousled her hair with her good hand.
"Does it hurt when you don't have your powers, Aunt Kara?" Esme asked her brown eyes round with concern.
Kara managed a smile. "It hurts a little right now, but no, not really. It just feels...kind of funny without my powers."
Esme nodded and looked at her seriously, almost too seriously for being five years old. But she always tries to be honest with Esme about these things.
Kara leans in closer as she reaches up to put another bandaid on, this time on her chin.
"Want to know a secret?"
Esme nodded enthusiastically.
"Sometimes it's nice without my powers. I mean, I don't have to be as careful when I get excited and hug Aunt Lena."
Esme giggled. "Or kiss her!"
"Or kiss her," Kara admitted with a blush. But then her smile faded a bit. "I feel bad worrying your mom, though."
"Aunt Lena worries too," Esme said.
Kara's heart ached at the truth of it. "Yeah. She does."
She held her hand out revealing another angry cut, "So we better get me fixed up before she finds out, huh?."
But then the sudden echo of heels on tile had both of them turning and Kara's stomach dropping.
"Kara Zor-el Danvers!" Lena's voice rang out.
Kara and Esme exchanged wide-eyed looks.
"Do you think she knows?" Kara whispered.
Esme nodded gravely. "Last time Momma used my full name was when I kept that frog in my room without asking."
Lena swept into the Medbay, jacket unbuttoned, hair astray, and panic in her eyes. She looked undone in more ways than one.
"Kara..."
Her voice quiets the second time she says her name.
Maybe she looks worse than she thought. Maybe the band-aids weren't helping as much as she hoped.
Alex turned the corner, face buried in lab reports, nearly running into Lena's back.
"Oh!"
Alex glanced between them and Esme quickly overcoming her surprise. "Did she say her whole name?"
Esme nodded without a bit of sympathy for her Aunt. "Yup!" then did her best to sound like her Godmother. "Kara Zor-el Danvers!"
Kara's cheeks flushed, but her eyes didn't leave Lena's.
Alex looked between them again and stepped forward to scoop Esme off the table. "What do you say we give these two a minute alone, kiddo?"
As they made their way to the door, Esme reached out to get Lena's attention, tugging on the bottom of her coat.
Lena bent down just enough that Esme was able to whisper in her ear, and Kara didn't miss the fleeting smile it caused before she stands up again, smoothing Esme's hair, and thanking her for helping Kara feel better.
And just like that they’re alone.
And she all but expects another round of her whole name hurting towards her.
But Lena stayed put.
Stayed quiet.
And Kara can’t read her expression.
And without her heartbeat to go by, she feels even more lost.
"The full-name treatment huh? When you were mad before, it was always just Supergirl, never even Kara."
Lena sighed, dropping her head a little. "That's not funny...or fair."
So,...so lost.
Kara's heart clenched, and she looked down at her hands in her lap, silly dinosaur bandaids placed against her bloodstained suit.
"I know, I'm sorry."
Kara watched Lena's eyes flit back and forth between her and the room as if unsure of where to focus her attention. Finally, she lets out a long sigh and turned to face Kara fully.
"I was in a meeting. A stupid meeting. I had no idea you were even doing anything that could have gotten you hurt. Jess had to tell me!"
And Kara tries to ease heaviness that settles with Lena’s anger.
"You have a lot of meetings; the odds of me getting hurt during one had to have been pretty high."
But quickly pulled her lip between her teeth wanting to pull the words back too when she looks again at her.
"Right, sorry, not funny."
Lens stepped between her legs, hands resting on her thighs, eye glistening with tears no longer held back.
"I'm sorry...again."
Kara let her head fall gently against her chest as she let out another sigh.
"I just barely got used to worrying about you during the big stuff. You know, world-ending, catastrophe-avoiding days. But this was just a normal day. I didn't think about ever losing you on just a normal day."
And Kara wants to tell her how much she knows what that feels like, wants to tell her how fragile humans are, how much she worries about normal days all the time. But she knows Lena needs to be mad at her now, needs to be able to feel however she is feeling and have that feeling be about her.
Lena's hands tightened on her legs, fingers digging into the fabric of her suit, and it's like she saying. Sometimes it's nice. To feel, to know, to be able to understand through touch alone the depth that Lena is feeling something, needing something.
Kara placed her hands over Lena's.
"I'm okay."
Lena nodded and let Kara pull their bodies together until they were wrapped around each other.
"You're not wrong. It was easier to be mad or worried about Supergirl. But I love Kara Zor el Danvers, all of her."
Lena's hand came up to cup her chin, thumb tracing the edge of the bandaid there.
"Even when she looks a little foolish."
Lena leaned the warm press of her lips, replacing the cool skin of her hand.
Kara grinned sheepishly. "I may or may not have picked them out myself. I thought they might distract you. It was obviously not as successful as I hoped. "
Lena rolls her eyes and helps Kara down from the exam table, steadying her with an arm around her waist as she finds her feet.
"Come on, let's get you home."
Kara leans into her side, brushes her thumb over Lena's knuckles as they walk together.
"So what did Esme say to you?"
Lena lets out a watery laugh and subtle eyebrow raise.
"That I should let you kiss me tonight."
Kara falters for just a step, but she quickly finds her feet again, along with a smile.
"Any chance we could throw in a couple hugs too?"
