You wanna know what I'm surprised I haven't seen more of? Bard Tavs serenading Astarion, or singing him to sleep with a lullaby composed just for him. I'm sure Astarion would eat up all that affection.
This is so cute omg. And also managed to be an actual drabble instead of a novel! As always cw for spoilers!
~
Astarion woke with a start, his heart pounding in his chest as he frantically looked around. But he wasn't in Cazador's torture room. No, instead he was at the Elfsong, safe and sound in a private room. It had been another nightmare, a typical occurrence as of late.
Atarion had assumed that those would stop after the monster was dead, but they seemed to be more frequent than ever. It felt unfair. He had won. Cazador was dead, by his own hand. There was nothing left to fear. Well... that wasn't including the tadpole still trapped in his lover's skull, not to mention his own. And the Elder Brain. And the cult of Bhaal. But in all honesty, all of that felt so small now with his slave master disintegrated. If he could do what had felt impossible, what had been impossible, for centuries, why couldn't he accomplish the rest?
Astarion groaned as he sat up, realizing for the first time that he was alone in bed. But luckily enough you hadn't gone far. He turned to find you sitting on the window sill, illuminated by the moonlight as you scribbled away in your journal.
You glanced over at the sound of his shuffling, your brow furrowed, "Star? Why are you still awake?"
"I could ask you the same thing," Astarion sighed, the coldness of your side of the bed coming into full perspective. He would like that fixed sooner than later, "Now come back to me, it's cold."
You smiled, slipping down from your perch to join him in bed. Astarion wasn't quite sure when such simple actions would stop making him melt like an infatuated teenager. He was starting to think that it would never come to an end.
You laughed softly as he immediately wrapped his arms around you, cradling you against his chest, "You know how I love to sleep in fits and starts. But you don't exactly have the same excuse, do you? You look so tired lately."
Astarion frowned, loathing the fact that his lack of sleep had become so obvious. But then again, if anyone was going to be familiar with his night terrors, it would be you. He sighed, "Just nightmares. Nothing you haven't heard before."
You frowned, "That doesn't make them pleasant."
"No," Astarion laughed softly, "It doesn't. But now it's your turn. What were you up to in the middle of the night?"
"Just some writing. I've been working on a few things."
"Like what?" Astarion asked, sincerely curious. You were quite the talent as a bard, a fact that he was aware of before he fell in love with you.
"A new ballad mostly, with a lullaby on the side."
That sounded well within your wheel house, though this was the first time he'd heard of you writing a lullaby, "What inspired that?"
"You," You said simply, "But I know how you get when I'm all mushy, so I kept it to myself for now."
Astarion hadn't expected that, but that massive smile that broke out on his face at the news wasn't a surprise. He kissed the top of your head, still smiling to himself, "I don't recall ever saying I disliked you being a sickening romantic. Can I hear it?"
You looked up at him, surprised for some reason. Which was frankly silly. Who wouldn't want to hear a song written about them from the person they loved most? For once in his life Astarion was being the normal one here.
"You want me to sing to you?" You asked, sitting up in bed to smile down at him.
Astarion grinned back, "I wouldn't object to it."
"Well in that case..."
And then you started to sing. Astarion adored the sound of your voice, and apparently he loved it even more when you were singing about him.
Little star, so bright and fierce,
Beautiful with eyes that pierce,
But that's not all there is,
He's strong and swift with perfect lips to kiss, a humor that is only his,
Charming and witty, a wish come true,
If only the rest of the world knew.
Astarion wasn't quite sure when he fell asleep that night, but it was to the sound of your sweet, melodious voice and with a smile plastered to his face.
And for the first time in days, he didn't have a single nightmare.

Can you make an Angsty Astarion x mortal!reader fic where Astarion realizes that one day the reader will pass and he’ll be alone again🙏🙏🙏 I need more Angst of this man😭
TW - Talk of death, graveyards
Recommended Song: Halley's Comet - Billie Eilish
Astarion often visits graveyards. It's some form of therapy, a place where he can let it all out, a place where he can mourn what he never had, what he doesn't remember. You don't usually go with him, deciding it's best to give him something just for him. Occasionally he'll ask you to come with him, if it's been a particularly rough time or if it's a special day. At the very least he goes once a month, and it's never a question of where he's going, you just know. You worry about him sometimes, being alone in some graveyard. You are all each other have, all you cherish, all you love. It's not often you're apart, but it's not all that difficult to stick to someone like sap when you can't be in the sun.
It's the anniversary of the death of some family member he doesn't remember, who died centuries ago, but some part of him feels as though he should at least go. Not like anyone else goes to see his family anymore. You're in the living room, setting up the fireplace for when you return. Astarion comes downstairs, and you hear his shoes tap each step. You turn to find him in all black, you are as well.
"Are you ready to go?"
You ask, grabbing your trusty knife off the table by the front door, sheathing it under your jacket. It's been quite cold as of recent.
"Mhm."
He doesn't say much. He doesn't have to say much.
"Then let's go."
You smile warmly and wrap yourself around his arm. The graveyard you're visiting isn't too far from the house. It's where most of the Ancuníns were laid to rest, including Astarion's 'grave.' When you arrive, he knows right where to go, and you simply follow along. A while back he memorized all of these people, their death dates, who they were, trying to remember anything he could from a life he lost long ago. The two of you sit in front of an ornate grave, a second cousin of his, or something of the like. You feel guilty that you don't remember like he does.
"I appreciate you."
He'd been silent the entire walk here.
"You always come with me when I ask. I know it may not make sense, I just feel as though it's right, to at least try."
"Of course my love. Whatever you need."
You rest your head on his shoulder and read the inscription on the tombstone. Apparently this man got a terrible illness, died sometime in his 20s, extremely young for an elf. You wonder how much Astarion remembers, if he knew this man at all. You never pry though. He always shares when he's ready. Suddenly, he squeezes your hand.
"I'll miss you. I don't miss these people, but I'll miss you."
"That's hardly a fair comparison. You barely remember them."
"I'll remember you forever. Even if I were enslaved for two hundred more years after this, I couldn't ever forget you."
He kisses the top of your head, lingering for a moment to take in your scent, the feeling of your hair, every little thing he'll remember when you're gone.
"The truth is darling, I don't think I'll ever love again, once you're gone."
He begins to cry. You hadn't thought about him with future lovers, lying with another soul.
"That's not fair though."
"What makes you say that?"
"You deserve to love after me. You deserve to be loved after me."
He sadly chuckles to himself.
"As if anyone could ever compare. You're the sun, and I the moon. Without you, no light would ever reflect off me again. A dark husk of a man, that's what I will be when you're gone."
He sounds so sure of himself, as if beyond you there is nothing. Then again, you've made this entire life together. Who else would fall in love with a vampire spawn with no master, a monster who's never going to be quite right? You're not sure what to say.
"To be honest, I don't think I could fall in love with someone else, even if I tried my damnest. You've made me feel safe in a way that is so foreign, fabricated just for me. You can't replicate that. You can't find someone so willing to be this patient, this kind, to not only love me for my body."
"You have so much more to love though."
"I don't think anyone would see it the way you do my sweet."
You shift to turn and look at Astarion, taking his hands in yours.
"You know what I love most about you?"
He softly smiles.
"What?"
"That you can change. It's something many people forget to do, to change and evolve, to find more in life than their misery. You've changed, for the better. Very few can do that the way you have."
"It's you who changed me."
Sometimes it frustrates you, how little credit he gives himself. Then again, it's much better than it used to be.
"Just promise me something? Once I'm gone, find another way to be happy. Find something that makes your heart flutter, that causes those precious creases when you smile. Find something else, if not for yourself, for me."
He nestles into your neck, giving you a soft kiss.
"I promise to try my love, that's all I can do."
His eyes are still misty, the tears get onto your neck. You try hard not to cry yourself, but it's hard when your heart is breaking outside of your body. You pray in that moment, although you're not sure to what god or power, but you pray that he'll be okay when you die, that it's a long time away from someone driving a stake through his ribs, that he finds joy in the small things like he does now. After all, hope is all you have when the afterlife comes to get you so soon.
"I hope I get to watch over you, wherever I end up."
"Like some kind of angel or something?"
"I guess. Like your guardian."
"Do you think I'll know?"
"Yes, I think you'll know. Maybe I'll take on the body of stray cats, follow you on the streets, lead you down paths with less heartache."
"I'd like that, very much."
~~~
Decades later, Astarion gets ready to leave the house, your knife on the table. When he steps out onto the cobblestone streets, there's a pure white cat standing a couple feet away. It meows, almost melodically, and turns to a nearby alleyway. He walks to where the animal was standing, and turns to look into the alleyway, but there is no sight of the stray. He smiles.
"Thank you, my love."
"Thank-- Thanks!"
You barely had the breath to utter a word, but neither did your savior, coughing and panting in front of you. If it hadn't been for the fact that you two were racing through the forest mindlessly, "escaping" being the drive to keep you running, you might have expressed your thankfulness a little more. This had to do for now. Even though you two still weren't in the comfort of a town with big, sturdy walls and guards with weapons, you had gotten quite far in your mad dash through the thicket, every inch away from the hell that was the lair you had been kidnapped to, feeling like you were finally free.
"Thank you so much!" you croaked, your voice hoarse and your mouth dry despite sweating profusely. "You can't imagine," you added, swallowing hard as your throat stung. "That monster in the woods... that... snake... it captured me and held me there for some reason. I wouldn't have been able to escape without you!"
The man—a hunter or soldier, you reckoned, considering he knew the forest so well—waved his hand dismissively, stretching out his back and taking deep breaths, collecting himself.
"Please, anyone would help when they found someone in such a dire situation as you were," he comforted you. You tried to smile through the pain aching through your whole body, the impromptu workout rattling every bone after weeks of being carried around and doing nothing.
Steadily, the man was regaining his composure, so you tried your best to keep up, not wanting to look lousy in front of your savior. He looked around, scanning the area, before pointing his finger somewhere further south and turning towards you. "There's a hut just a few minutes from here. It's getting dark, and we should stay out of sight in case we're being followed. What do you say?"
Gulping, you wished his suggestion had been more like, "The city is just a few more steps from here. Let's take shelter behind a safe stone wall full of guards and trained soldiers to protect you." Then again, you wouldn't be as ungrateful to his efforts as to suggest you two kept going until you could truly settle into the safety and protection of civilization. You didn't want to stay one more night out in the forest, but a hut sounded better than to be found wandering out and about in his habitat.
There was a lot to unpack, and you weren't sure if you'd ever get over what happened to you. Still, when your savior closed the wooden door, drew the curtains over the windows, and handed you a blanket to bundle up, you felt like the first step towards healing had been made. A fire might have given away your presence, so you wrapped the blanket tightly around you. However, it was barely enough to cover everything, your legs sticking out if you didn't pull them against your chest.
It wasn't comfy or warm, but it was the first time you truly realized you made it out. Things had been rough living with that thing. People would call your stories crazy if you talked about a strong half-man, half-snake, feeding you raw meat and occasionally fruits while keeping you coiled in his tail. They'd think you'd gone mad if you told them about the white, skull-like marks on his body and face or how he'd bury his face in the crook of your neck, jittering happily. The worst part was that he couldn't speak to you, even though you thought he tried a few times, but there were no words spoken between you two ever. You couldn't explain his intentions or thoughts to anyone, not even yourself.
For a while, you two sat in silence, breaths calming down. The man handed you some dried meat and his water flask, sharing what little he had, and you gobbled it up with your gratitude, thanking him again and again. You could feel him watching you, even through the darkness inside the hut, but you thought nothing of it. He must have been concerned for this stranger he found in a ditch, hidden away, crying and begging for help when he passed by accidentally and took them on a run through the thicket. All while they kept whining about some monster kidnapping them. It sounded crazed and suspicious even to you, but you were glad he listened to his heart and helped you despite the wild story behind your misery.
"Thank you so much," you mumbled again, unable to stop thanking him. Tears welled up in your eyes as the realization of your escape settled further, something you had started to fear wouldn't ever be possible after so many days spent with the monster. You sobbed quietly as the relief washed over you in big waves, wishing you could stop and not look so pathetic in front of a stranger. However, he put his arm around your shoulder, drawing you into his chest, and you could no longer hold back your ugly crying.
It felt good to be held again in a warm embrace, hands patting your head, your back. It was different from the claws and scales, the sensations only ever bringing you terror. Instead, you were comforted by the humanness of the kind stranger, so much better than what you had come to know from the monster. Palms rubbed soothing circles between your shoulder blades, and arms that were strong but not as firm as your captors hugged you tenderly. His touch warmed all of your back, fingers slowly dipping lower, massaging the soreness in your muscles until they ended up above your ass, making you jolt.
"Sorry," you apologized, wiping your eyes as you tried to slide away, thinking it was a mistake where his hand landed. However, the arm around your shoulder didn't budge as you tried to slip out, his other hand creeping up your leg instead, brushing aside the blanket.
"I don't mind," the stranger muttered, leaning forward. His nose brushed against your hair, and you heard him taking a deep breath, inhaling your scent that you didn't even want to know what it smelled like. Immediately, goosebumps erupted all over you, your body tensing under his touch as you turned stiff as a board.
"How about you thank me some other way since we'll be stuck here together all night? Let's take some of that tension off you, shall we?"
You could hear the disgusting grin on the man's lips and knew exactly what he was suggesting. Your eyes darted to the door, knowing where it was even in the darkness. Only a small bolt locked it from the inside, and as the stranger's hand crept higher on your thigh, fingers pressing and massaging the flesh, you were planning your way out frantically. The sound of him letting out a long, satisfied sigh was enough to finally put your plans into action while you were filled with disgust.
"Please stop!" you pleaded, pressing your hands to his chest. Still hoping to find reason within him. You cursed the monster for actively encouraging you to do as good as nothing while it had captured you, all your muscles seemingly evaporated as you couldn't even push him an inch away from you.
"Come on, don't I deserve a reward?"
"No! Not like this, please! I don't want that!"
"Don't be like that now! I helped you, didn't I?"
Panic made your blood pound in your mind, pumping you full of adrenaline that you thought had all been emptied out while you ran from your captor. You hadn't realized the man's thoughts, disgusting, vile, and opportunistic, no different from the monster you were with before. But if you had to choose, you chose neither.
Luck was in your favor, and as the man tried to topple you over, the barely helpful blanket gave you a chance to slide out from under him, your nails scratching over the floor as you got to your feet, dashing towards the door. He tried to get up after you, though he wasn't as quick and found less hold on the ground, so you had time to find and unbolt the lock with shaky hands; your breath uneven as you tore open the door and ran into the dark night.
The small clearing before the hut was eerily quiet, but with your blood rushing in your ears, you didn't notice the absence of sounds. Unfortunately, that was also where you ran out of luck, your foot getting stuck on a root, tripping you over badly.
"Come back here, you idiot!" the stranger whisper-yelled after you. On one hand, he had a point: neither of you should be out at this hour, causing a ruckus. But you were way past reason as you knew that going back there would mean he'd do something to you, one way or another. You had escaped one monster, but your fellow human was no better than one. Different, yet just as harmful.
"It was just a joke! Come back here right now! You're getting us--"
His voice was cut off, and you didn't hear his steps behind you anymore, confusion forcing you to look back over your shoulder as you stumbled to your feet. Clouds seemed to break open at the exact moment that you looked at him, letting the moonlight through as you found your footing in a daze, furrowing your brows as you noticed the stranger not staring at you.
His mouth hung open, head tilted back, his eyes wide and filled with unimaginable terror. You were appalled yet intrigued by what he saw when your body crashed into a wall, the unmistakable feeling of scales rubbing over your skin. There was nowhere to run as the elongated body you knew too well started to wrap and tighten around you, a large hand sinking to your back, its palm covering it protectively, keeping you pressed against the monster you initially ran from, his black scales enveloping you in darkness.
"It's- It's real," the man mumbled, his voice turning into yelling as he continued in a ramble, "It's real! It's actually real!"
All you could do was shiver as you heard the man laugh manically behind you. As if he hadn't believed you until he saw the monster you had described. You didn't know what was better: running away alone, staying with the beast, or being with the stranger. Every one of these options made your gut churn. How did he even find you? How could he catch up so quickly despite you two running all day? When you ran out of the hut, you hadn't even seen a shadow, much less a body, so where had the monster come from?
The creature leaned down, his humanoid upper body hovering over you, palm pressing you against him a little more. And in what you could only describe as monstrous comfort, you felt a rumble go through him, soft and even, his thumb brushing over your back. It was different from the comforting touch of the stranger, but no less ill-willed and a lure into more danger. Even when the monster tried to seem less like the bad guy, you knew it was far from the truth. The trust he attempted to pull out from your subconscious as he protected you, was misplaced and unwarranted. His hands were cold, his body abnormally. Like a ghost, sending shivers down your spine and spooking you to your very core.
Behind its purr and comfort, he was still a monster.
You gasped and flinched—hard—when you heard his tail slam into the ground, the maniacal laughter dying instantly and being replaced by the cracking of bones and splashing of flesh. You didn't dare to look back, couldn't stomach a glance at the dead body smashed into pulp behind you.
Even when the monster picked you up, your arms wrapping around his thick neck instinctively as you had so many times before, your mind ordered you to be compliant, but you couldn't stop shivering. You didn't want to submit to the monster, nor did you want to end up smashed and dead as well. Just like before, you cried into the shoulder of your savior pitifully as he carried you back into the dark forest, clawing onto you and not giving you the same lucky chance to slide out of his grasp.
He carried you for a long time at a leisure place, ducking under branches and brushing away thorny bushes, and only then did you realize how far you had come—how close you were to escaping the creature. The despair tore your sanity into pieces. He had no hurry while carrying you back, but when he sunk underground, the moonlight fading from your sight, you knew it was hopeless.
The monster laid you down into soft furs, the darkness surrounding you a familiar threat, forcing you to experience every touch and every sound much more intense than before. It had never spoken to you in all the time you two were together, but it didn't let you forget it was there. His face rubbed against yours, tongue lapping at the pulse in your throat, and he purred and hummed, his tail coiling around your leg, scales scrapping over your skin.
He rested his face against your throat, taking a deep, audible breath, and you thought back to the man who had tried to save you, doing the same. Monsters, you thought. Monsters, all of them.
"M-- Mhm--" you suddenly heard, feeling the vibration in the creature's chest, and you held your breath, the sound almost familiar, like a voice.
"Mat-- Ma-tsss--" Slowly, the pronunciation got clearer, strained and uncanny as it was, followed by a hissing sound. You couldn't help the goosebumps on your skin, the scales tightening around you as they felt the change, imprisoning your limbs while the monster kept trying to speak in an unfamiliar tongue.
You saw the glint of his eyes hovering above you, something dripping down onto your cheek. You had no way of knowing what it was, but by the sounds of straining, you guessed it was drool as the monster tensed and flexed his jaw for more mobility. You could only stare in wonder and fear alike.
"Wha-- What?" you uttered, confused and agitated by the whole situation, frightened and unsure what to make of it.
"Mi-- Mine," it finally stammered out, and time seemed to halt as you stared, bewildered. It had never said a coherent word to you, much less did you think it understood your talking. But as the darkness and silence carried one, he repeated it, and you felt like, finally, everything was beginning to make sense.
"Mate. Mine."
l. heeseung . ⁺
you and heeseung would have gone on a little late-night outing at the basketball court not far from your house. it was made clear quite quickly that your skills were far from impressive. as you kept missing shots, stumbling on your own feet and fumbling passes, heeseung was laughing his ass off y'all know when he laughs really hard, his laugh echoing through the empty court. feeling so annoyed at your lack of skill, you bent down, hiding your face in your knees. heeseung approached you, trying hard to stop himself from laughing.
'c-c'mon y/n.. you're not..that.. bad?" he couldn't even get through the whole sentence without starting to laugh. he rubbed your back, trying to bring up your spirit as he bent down to your level. you got your face out of your knees as you locked eyes with him, slightly glaring at him. at that moment, you were the cutest thing to heeseung, he knew you weren't good at basketball but your efforts to come to play with him made his heart soften. he didn't exactly know why but his heart felt full then, he didn't want the night to end.
p. jongseong . ⁺
i already did this for jay here
s. jaeyun . ⁺
jaeyun had been sick for the past few days and had been confined in his room and bedridden. him being your best friend, you missed him way too much to not sneak into his bedroom while the rest of the guys were out of the dorm. you had brought him multiple choices of ramyeon and your laptop to watch movies with him. jake had initially protested, not wanting to get you sick but honestly you couldn't care less as you scooched him over and took your place under the covers next to him.
you were well into the movie, stuffing your face with noodles when jake looked over at you, eyes all drowsy as his fever tired him out. you looked perfectly imperfect this sounds backhanded but wait, your hair was all messy, blanket up to your neck, and mouth stuffed with food, despite not looking your most "put together" jake couldn't help the feeling of his heart swelling at the sight
p. sunghoon . ⁺
sunghoon had been invited to a photo shoot for the vogue magazine. feeling a little anxious, he had asked you to come with him, you didn't have any plans so you agreed to come. he looked so good, his hair styled to fit his face perfectly and his makeup making his eyes pop. during the five-minute break, he shared that he felt a little anxious, still not feeling sure about how he was doing.
wanting to cheer him up, when he had gone back in front of the camera, you were ready to cheer compliments at him for the rest of the shoot.
"Wow! Sunghoon is so handsome! I'm going to faint!" sorry y'all idk how to compliment others.
he couldn't hide the little smile making its way to his face. he appreciated you being there so much, you were his little cheerleader. making eye contact with you, his heart swooned as he realized he never wants to have to go through anything without you by his side.
k. sunoo . ⁺
sunoo and you had gone to a park, you hadn't seen each other in a while and had wanted to spend the day together. you had brought a volleyball, those mini cakes with drinks, a game of twister, etc. you had a full afternoon planned ahead of you. as you caught each other on what was going on in your lives, a kid had come up to you, an adorable little girl in a cute pink dress with little pigtails. the little girl approached you and gave you a little flower, the girl explained that her mom was just a few meters away and had allowed her to come over here. she took a seat on your lap as sunoo squealed at her cuteness. seeing you with such a big smile and with the cutest little girl on your lap, he found the whole scene so endearing, his heart beating suddenly fast, seeing you in a new light for the first time.
y. jungwon . ⁺
jungwon and you had been invited to a mutual friend's birthday party. you had gone together as you didn’t live far from each other. as you entered the party, you and jungwon quickly got separated as each other's friends pulled you guys apart to rejoin your friends group. the night had been an amusing experience, laughter and music filling the room. as much fun as each of you was having, jungwon couldn't help but miss you a little, he had been excited to hear you'd be coming to the party too, he was a little bummed to be separated from you all night.
jungwon kept an eye on you all night from afar. his heart tightened when he saw one of your guy friends put his arm around you, whispering something in your ear as you laughed. that should've been him making you laugh. this jealousy was a brand new feeling for him. all he knew was that he didn't want anyone other than him to be close to you. telling his friends he'd be right back, he made his way to where you were standing, not thinking much about it, he grabbed your wrist and pulled you to him, bringing you to where he was previously, wanting to keep not only a closer eye on you but his hand in yours to make sure nobody would try to flirt with you
n. riki . ⁺
you were already at the boy's dorm when niki came back from an errand he was running. he wasn't expecting you to be there but was pleasantly surprised to see your face. he had joined you on the couch where you were playing mario kart against sunghoon and sunoo. niki had found your little concentrated face endearing in a way. the way the space between your eyebrows wrinkled, the way your eyes were slightly squinting and the way your bottom lip was stuck under your teeth. the simple moment was enough for him to get the tender realization that he was hopelessly in love with you.
hi hii, congratulations on 1.5k <33 could i request a santa tell me with friends to lovers!lando and the prompts pulling them in by their tie, face squishing and “can you call me that again?” if you get the vibe im going for, you’re actually amazing!!
(originally i wanted to request for mick but then i realised you didn’t write for him 😕)
hello love! thank you!! <3 okay so i did do this for mick, hope that's okay. i was thinking kinda haas&childhood friend!mick and teammate!reader. also, i combined this with another request, so i decided to take out the face squishing.... hope you enjoy!! 💓
Tumblr media
‎‎ ‎‎‎‎ ‎‎
you and mick were supposed to meet up in the hotel lobby fifteen minutes ago, so that you could go to the team dinner together. but he never showed up, which kind of worries you – he isn't usually late like this.
it's even more worrying that he isn't opening it, or even making an effort to let you know that he's alive, when you bang on his door.
luckily for you, you and mick always exchange key cards in case of an emergency. it's something you've done since you started racing together as teenagers – half for the humor in waking the other in the middle of the night, half for actual emergencies – and for the first time in a while, the key comes in handy.
"mick, we were supposed to leave like fifteen minutes ago," you say the second you storm into his room, seeing that he's alive and clearly well. his broad back facing you as he stands in front of a mirror. "aren't you done?"
he slowly turns around, an exhausted look on his face. "i can't..." a groan slips past his lips, and when your eyes wander down from his face to his hands, you suddenly understand the reason behind his delay. an undone tie hangs loosely over his shoulders, mick's fingers holding onto the material.
"do you seriously not know how to tie a tie?" you ask, shaking your head as you step towards him. "here, let me."
he lets out a breath of relief when you reach for the fabric, visibly relaxing as you get to work. "i usually wear a bowtie, you know."
"mhm. that's a great excuse for not knowing basic etiquette." the tie is done in seconds, and you pat his shoulder to let him know. "all done, sweetheart."
the moment the pet name slips past your lips, you freeze.
you hadn't intended to say it, it just happened. maybe you've been thinking of him as your sweetheart in your mind too much that it felt natural to say it. either way, there's no going back now – all you can do is try to pretend like it never happened.
you hadn't realized until now how close you're standing; the proximity is killing you. his gaze burns through you and you can practically feel the heat from his body, contributing to your increasingly red cheeks. you step back, turning your head towards the bed as you speak up again. "so... are you ready, then?"
"is that like a friendly nickname?" mick's voice is usually like music to your ears, but right now, you wish he just hadn't said anything. "or..."
what is he thinking? is he serious? unfortunately, you don't quite think through your next words, either, again just speaking on instinct. "yeah, i just go around casually calling all of my friends sweetheart."
your words are dripping with sarcasm – and yet, he apparently doesn't notice. you look back at him just in time to catch how something about his demeanor changes; he looks down at the floor with a slight nod of his head, his lips pressed into a straight line. "okay..."
"are you stupid or something?" his eyebrows shoot up as he stares at you.
how is he not getting this?
you shake your head, sighing in frustration. you've already gone this far, you've already screwed up, so you can't possibly make anything worse now, right? "i don't call just anyone sweetheart. it's-" you take a deep breath. "we should really get going, mick."
just as you turn towards the door, his hand reaches for your hip, pulling you back to his body. suddenly, your body is almost pressed up against his, with both of his hands holding onto your sides. mick's gaze flickers between your eyes and your lips, and then something in him must've just said fuck it, because he leans down to you, sealing his lips with yours.
it takes a few moments before your mind connects the dots and reacts to his kiss, but when you do, you kiss him back instantly. it's not a long kiss, but the surprise of it has you gasping when he pulls away. the two of you just watch each other for a second, before matching sets of grins appear on your faces.
"can you call me that again?" his voice is lower than before, almost cautious, but it doesn't take long before you react.
you tilt your head, your hand coming up to wrap around his tie. "sweetheart," you coo before pulling him down to you again by his tie, pressing your mouth to his. "my sweetheart mick."
your last words are spoken against his lips, not wanting to part for even a second. you've dreamed of this moment for so many years, and now that you're finally here, the last thing you want is to let it slip through your fingers.
but the outside world, including your whole team, is still waiting on you on the other side of those doors. unwillingly, you part from the kiss, blinking up at him. "this was great and all, but-" you pause when you make contact with his big, blue eyes, easily getting lost in them and trailing off. "we really should get going now, mick..."
"ah, yes." there's a nod of his head and he smiles, leaning forward to press his lips to your forehead. "we will definitely talk about this later, though?"
"definitely. maybe even a repeat..."
"not just maybe. surely."
PLEASE I HAVE A REQUEST:
Reader is deathly afraid of physical touch and she’s a student of Jonathan Crane’s. She begins to question whether or not exposure therapy is humane and decides to write a research paper against the idea of exposure therapy and Dr Crane plots against her and finds out her fear, inevitably forcing her to confront her fear with non/con(???)
I’m thinking totally brutal / slow burn and Jonathan is just a full psycho in this, not offering her any mercy. He Def does his research and Def traumatized reader
PLEASEEEEEEEEEE
(because this is just drabbles, I'm not going to be able to flesh this out the way you've envisioned, but I love the concept so I will do something based on it!) obviously this is dark, warnings for kidnapping and threats of noncon
Tumblr media
haphephobia - the irrational fear or overwhelming aversion to physical touch.
You were far from the only psychopathology student who got into this line of work due to personal experience. Actually, more often than not, this interest begins for people with their own relationship with mental health-- maybe something as simple as a long battle with clinical depression, maybe trauma or abuse, maybe a history of addiction. You would hope that this made most of the students more equipped, more empathetic; that was true, but it also meant that there was a little more... instability among the cohort than you wanted to admit.
And yet, you hadn't even noticed that the worst of them all was right there in the front of the class, teaching.
"I read your paper," he explained, pacing back and forth, sparing long glances at you. "It was quite good. But your conclusions are weak."
Normally, if you'd been receiving this sort of feedback during office hours, you would just tilt your head and ask 'how so, Professor Crane?'
But considering you didn't even know where you were, strapped to an exam table in some dark basement, you weren't as inquisitive as usual. "See," he continued, approaching you, "if you want to disprove exposure therapy, you can't just do a systematic review of previous literature-- you need to get in the field, experiment yourself."
He lowered his voice as he stood closer to you, leaning over you, looking at you with a sort of fascination and pity.
"After all," he continued, "I'm a... fierce advocate of psychiatric experimentation."
"Yeah," you panted, the initial panic of waking up here fading into a general, steady terror, "I'm beginning to realize that."
"And you're always free to have your own opinion-- I think it's important that my students utilize their right to disagree with me-- but in this case, well, you just can't deny the results."
He was fucking smiling as he discussed it-- he was proud of what he'd done, of what he was going to do to you. "I can," you insisted, "if they're not ethical."
He rolled his eyes. "Always such a good girl," he cooed. "Let me worry about the ethics and you-- you can just worry about what I'm going to do now that I've got you tied up down here, where nobody will ever find you."
Bringing his hand closer to your face, you turned it away with a whimper. "Please," you whispered, "I-- you know I can't--"
"How does it feel?" he asked. "Right now, knowing I might touch you?"
"It's..." you trailed off, struggling to find a train of thought with him so close. "It's anxiety-inducing, obviously. It's dread."
"Filled with dread just because I'm getting close," he smirked. "You're in serious need of intervention, sweet thing. I can't believe you've gone without help for so long."
"This-- this isn't help, Professor--" you began to protest, but you winced as he gently brushed a finger over your cheek.
"You look like you're in pain," he noticed.
"It hurts," you hissed. "It hurts to be touched."
"Hurts how?"
"Like... like I'm raw all over. Like my body is one big burn," you whispered, eyes still shut tight as his hand moved down to gently caress your neck.
"And you've ruled out any medical cause-- an autoimmune disorder, hypersensitivity of the skin?"
You nodded, biting your lip to try to think of something other than the pain he was inflicting-- the pain you were totally helpless to. "There's no... physiological cause..."
"It's all in the mind," he finished for you, "and what a powerful mind you have. You're one of my best students, you know-- it's a shame you're limited by your fear. Fear of the truth, fear of breaking your precious ethics... fear of the future."
Your eyes shot open when his touch trailed down even further, toying with the neckline of your shirt; if any human contact was painful, you hadn't even prepared for the overwhelming anxiety of being touched in a way that had even the slightest sexual undertone. "Y-you don't really think you're that powerful, do you?" you pressed. "That you can take away fear?"
He shook his head. "No, dear, I don't have to," he replied. "I don't take it away-- I use it."
Just as his touch wandered, so did his gaze, and you shuddered under his dark stare as he started to properly grope you; his breathing picked up a bit, his lip twitched-- he even darted his tongue out for a second before smiling again.
"And now," he grinned, "I have you to use, too."
Clawing my way out of depression with some incredibly silly Bumblebee x Reader, in which our beloved Scout is shrunk down to the size of a kitten via science magic and reader must keep him warm in their coat. Reader is gender neutral beyond having titties for Bee to huddle against. Read and join me as I defeat SAD with the power of silliness.
Shrunken Earthspark Bumblebee x GN!Reader
Rated PG for silliness, fluff and booby mention
Hunkering down at the abandoned warehouse you'd been told to wait in, you kept your eyes and ears on the horizon, hoping that the hum of familiar engines would cut through the howling wind and whirling snow before long. Though the air was frigid enough to freeze your breath, the bitter cold accounted for only a small portion of your desire to swiftly reunite with the team, as you had much bigger problems that you needed help with. Well, perhaps "bigger" wasn't the right word for it...
Standing atop the opposite end of the windowsill for his own vigil, Bumblebee looked remarkably alert and well composed for someone a fraction of their natural height. You supposed that his brush with Mandroid could have gone much worse; at least the device the scientist had escaped with had only shrunk the Scout, and done no further harm. It was a double miracle that you'd managed to find his tiny form amidst the knee deep snow of the battlefield. Rubbing your gloved hands together and trying not to stare, you told yourself that Wheeljack would be able to fix everything in no time, and that a few broken laws of physics would return your beloved bot to his usual towering height. Seeing him this tiny was just too strange, and not to mention unspeakably adorable.
A kitten-sized sneeze drew your eyes away from the snowy landscape out the window, and you looked over to find the Scout hugging himself through a dramatic shiver. "Bee? You okay?" you asked quickly, unable to help feeling far more protective than usual.
"F-f-fine!" he replied just as quickly, spinning around to face you. Digits trembling, he forced a shaky smile as he attempted to pass off crossing his arms as a casual gesture, though the tiny crystals of ice you noticed spreading across his frame gave him up just as readily. The poor mech sounded like he was seconds away from turning into a tiny Autobot popsicle as he shivered through every syllable. "Just a little... ch-chilly... B-but I'm f-fine!"
A number of realizations pinged through your mind at once; Bee must have lost a considerable amount of heat while buried in the snow, he was now far too small to regain said warmth, and he had no real idea how to stop himself from freezing now that he didn't have mass to protect himself. His pride had undoubtedly kept him from voicing the problem as it worsened, leaving you with a very tiny and very frozen Scout to thaw. "You're obviously freezing! Why didn't you tell me?"
"N-never been a p-problem before..." he replied as he gave in and started to shiver. Your heart twisted in pity, and you looked about as your brain raced to think of a solution, the lack of supplies leaving you with very few options. There was no way to build a fire, nor was there any power supply to start up the building's climate control, which was probably busted anyway. If only you had a tiny jacket to share...
"I need to get you warm; fast. Let me think... oh!"
The solution that came to you was very silly, and in a less life-threatening situation you would have thought it was quite embarrassing, but the prospect of saving your beloved Scout left no room for such doubts. Unzipping the front of your coat, you offered a hand for him to climb onto.
"Come here. You'll be plenty warm under my coat." you explained, figuring he'd fit perfectly between your shirt and the ample padding. Despite the chill, Bee managed a pink blush across his frozen cheeks, optics going wide in bashful embarrassment as he put together what you meant. It seemed that his pride hadn't shrunk with him.
"Y-you don't have-"
"Shush. At this rate, you'll freeze before our ride gets here" you insisted, voice growing a tad more urgent at his worsening freeze. Just watching his wings shake in time with his shivers made you care little for any kind of pride, including your own, and you used your concern to remain steadfast. Bringing your hand close enough for him to feel the warmth radiating from your glove made his resolve visibly waver. "So for now, my heat is your heat."
"Mmm..." he hummed in uncertainty, growing more tempted by the second. No bigger than a kitten and only slightly more intimidating, he cracked after only a few additional moments of hesitation, steadying himself against your thumb as he sat in your palm. He couldn't have weighed more than a pound, and you had to stifle a reflexive squee as he instinctively pressed himself into the warmth of your hand. A drooping of his optics made resisting that much harder. "Maybe just for a few minutes..."
"Of course." you said with a knowing smile. Gently sliding him into the opening of your coat, you just managed to avoid hissing as his frigid mesh settled against your shirt, though it was easy to ignore the discomfort when the tiny bot melted against you. With the outcrop of your breasts to support him, and the... "plush" of the area in question to keep him comfortable, Bee settled down as quickly as one would on a luxary mattress. Shivers dying down before your very eyes, the Scout rested his helm against you with the tiniest sigh. You had an undeniable urge to pet him as you whispered down into the little pocket of warmth. "There. Better?"
"Much... thank you." he murmured, looking up to meet your eyes with a smile as grateful as it was sleepy. Hoping he couldn't hear the resulting flutter of your heart, you pulled the zipper up a tad to keep the heat from escaping, grateful that your mammalian physiology could come in such handy. You'd have happily watched him rest his optics for hours, but a hum in the distance drew your gaze to the frosty window. Through the thick whirls of snow, your squinting eyes made out the faint outline of a familiar truck and aircraft, followed by a number of other vehicles you'd been hoping to see. The convoy had arrived.
"I think that's our evac, do you want-"
You went quiet at the sound of the tiniest snores you'd ever heard emanating from your coat, and as soon as your heart was done with its backflip, you found yourself wondering whether or not Bee would wish to be woken before his comrades saw him snoozing atop your breasts.
Tumblr media
You felt a massive lump in your throat, swearing to yourself that it might've killed you from suffocation if it hadn't gone away. You stood a few feet away from JJ and Pope with your back facing the direction of where the adenoidal voice was coming from behind you. You quite literally felt like a deer in the headlights while you stood there, frozen by the fear that came over you as you looked to your friends with pure panic in your eyes. You knew immediately that trouble had approached you by the irate look in JJ's sapphire colored eyes and the horror in Pope's. You felt a miniscule sense of relief when you realized that the voice adressing the three of you was not that of Rafe Cameron's. You could recognize Rafe's gruff, low-toned voice from a mile away and the one you had heard was not nearly as deep as his.
Topper.
"Y/n, what are you doing with these duds?" Topper taunted with evident intentions to rile up your friends, more specifically, JJ.
"Top," you turned around swiftly, a painfully forced smile plastered onto your face, "I ran into them while I was in line. I just stopped to say hi before I came back over." You prevaricated the loathsome Kook, putting on a euphonious tone to try and impel him by toying with his weak spot for you.
However to your dismay, Topper shook his head at you as he inched closer, "I get that, but you see, we don't really fuck with them, y/n. Especially not Rafe." The blond forewarned of the conflict that was brewing, causing your mouth to go dry and your breath to stagger. It wasn't often you were left speechless, seeing how you always seemed to have an opinion about something, but for once you were utterly tongue-tied under Topper's stare.
"I know, but they're my friends and Rafe knows tha-"
"Whats going on- Y/n? What are you doing?" A thick voice rang throughout your ears, followed by the vision of Rafe coming into your view, a sight that made your heart skip a beat.
"I ran into JJ and Pope while I was in line. I just wanted to say hi." You admitted and your articulation subdued. Heat had began rising to your flushed cheeks, only to be made worse by the scorching heat of the mid-july temperatures and Rafe's daunting glare.
You wanted to crumble into a million pieces at the sound of Rafe's hauntingly dry chuckle emerging from the depths of his throat, almost ominous. You kept your eyes glued up at him as he approached you as the beating of your heart inside your chest sped up faster than ever. It wasn't necessarily for the fact that you were scared of Rafe, but that he was unpredictable and arbitrary at times. The only ones who truly needed to be afraid in that moment was JJ and Pope, which had you on edge.
"Hey Top," Rafe motioned towards his blond acquaintance with a subtle head nod before wrapping an arm over your shoulders and pulling you into his side swiftly, "y/n and I are going to head back over to our seats. You think you got it from here?" His question alerting your attention immediately, causing you to furrow your brows at the lanky boy next to you.
"Yeah I think so, actually Kelce and Ryan are on their way." Topper flashed a small smirk in Rafe's direction, illiciting a nearly sadistic grin to form onto his face. After getting the confirmation from his friend, Rafe began to guide the two of you back over to the spot you were sat at previously, passing by the two Kooks Topper had just mentioned while on the walk back.
"Rafe, what are they doing?" You inquired wearily, shaming yourself for the way your voice cracked when trying to speak.
"They're just talking things out, y/n. Nothing to worry about." Rafe's words sounded sincere but you could tell by that familiar smug smirk on his face that he was being anything but that. You knew his attempt to soothe your nerves was merely half-hearted, not because he didn't care about you, but rather due to the fact that the talk about your fellow Pogue coevals left a sour taste in his mouth.
You kept walking in compliance with Rafe's request to remove you from the situation that was fermenting at the concession stand, but your mind was still racing at the thought of what was happening back there. You knew that if it involved Topper, or any of the Kooks for that matter, JJ and Pope would be in for it. You pondered on the reoccuring thought that those fiendish Kooks might actually end up hurting your friends, and you shivered at the thought of any of them laying a hand on the two boys.
You fought with the notion that they were up to no good for a few moments, however, you feared Rafe would catch onto where your head was at and grow frustrated with you. But nevertheless, you couldn't fight the thoughts that plagued every part of your encephalon. Therefore, just before you lost complete sight of the group of boys a few feet behind, you turned your head over your shoulder to sneak a peek at what was truly unfolding.
Once you had finally got a glimpse of what was going on, you couldn't help but scream.
"JJ! Pope!" You hollered with an unalloyed terror that captured Rafe's attention immediately.
"Shh, hey, hey, y/n?" Rafe placed his hands firmly on your shoulders, blocking your view of the altercation taking place by standing directly in front of you.
"Rafe- I, they're hurting my friends!" You pointed at the sight of both Pope and JJ lying on the ground while a trio of Kooks took turns throwing punches and kicks at their defenseless bodies. You winced as you watched Topper mercilessly send his foot right into the side of JJ's ribcage with force, causing your heart to break internally at the visual once you realized somewhere in that same area a previous bruise lingered there from JJ's dad a week before.
Rafe surveyed your piteous expression as tears began to brim in your eyes that were written over with a dolorous countenance that struck him deeply. Although it had amused him to watch his enemies in such a defenseless state, his merriment was soon erased by the way your hands began to shake and your tumefied lips trembled. He had never seen you in such a state of distress before, a vastly different version of the girl who was always giving him mordant comments and a insouciant demeanor. It began to settle within him that it really did hurt you to see your friends that way.
"Topper! That's enough." Rafe called out, bringing his friends to a fault in unison.
"But Rafe you-"
"I said cut the shit. You've made your point, now lets go." Rafe reaffirmed his position with his demand, causing the rest of the Kooks to remove themselves from your, now, battered friends as they groaned in agony. Rafe's sudden shift in demeanor left you both confused and speechless, wondering why he so suddenly had a change of heart in your friends' fate. But regardless, you were thankful there was some humanity inside of him left.
"Thank you." You whispered barely audibly as you looked up at Rafe as he sent daggers at his friends as they headed back over towards the two of you. You noticed that Rafe's rancorous impression began to soften as his eyes trailed down to meet yours. He huffed in a sense of defeat, a rather sincere appearance taking over his features. His azure eyes flickered between both of yours, looking as if he was in deep thought. You didn't dare to break eye contact with him, however, instead you kept your gaze locked onto him as you awaited his next response.
"You have no idea what you do to me." He muttered out quietly without even blinking. His declaration making your breath hitch in your throat as you stared up at him blankly, rendering yourself speechless once again.
"I don't understand." You voiced in a tremulous manner, one that you mentally cursed yourself for since you seemed so vulnerable against Rafe.
"Did you not see what I just did for you back there?" He retorted, a dry laugh escaping his rose-colored lips.
"For me?" You repeated.
"You really think I gave a shit if they hurt your little Pogue friends? I would've let them finish both of them off if it wasn't for that damn look on your face." Rafe sighed. For once, he had finally broke eye contact with you, leaving you to feel even more confused than you were before. You couldn't entirely wrap your head around why he was doing this, whether this was just some sick game to him or that seeing you so upset genuinely did bother him. Either ways, it was evident that he was uncomfortable discussing whatever it was that he was feeling in that moment, but you were curious, and desired a reason why.
"What are you talking about? I didn't make you do anything, Rafe." You attested, folding your arms in defense.
"You didn't have to," Rafe shook his head, looking down at you with pleading eyes that made goosebumps rise along your skin , "You have this thing about you, y/n. You walk around this island with this attitude that nothing can get to you, like nobody can say shit to you. But when it's just you and me, I see the way you become so fragile, like I'm gonna break you or something." His voice lowered as he closed in the proximity between your bodies, allowing you to feel the heat of his begin to warm yours.
"There's a part of you that's so naive. You take in the world with so much hope, like everything and everyone is fixable, like it's your job to fix them. I bet that's why you cling onto those Pogues of yours, cause you know they're damaged and you relate to it. You wanna fix them like you wish someone did for you." The blue-eyed boy continued, only for his presence to grow increasingly more intimidating than ever before. You picked up on how his voice deepend and his irises began to darken as he looked down on you, a hunger-filled glimmer in his eyes.
"You're wrong." You rejected his accusation although you weren't the least bit convincing. You hung your head low and refused to look up at him while his stare endlessly bored into your soul.
"You know I'm not," Rafe avowed, placing his index finger below your chin gently, forcing you to look up at him as he spoke, "you just don't want to admit it to yourself. You can lie all you want, but I see right through it."
"Even if it were true, what does it matter to you?" You scoffed, feeling a sense of defensiveness as though he was ridiculing you.
"Relax princess, I'm not judging." He chuckled lowly, "I'm saying that I see you for who you are. I mean, I get why you do it, trust me. But for once, why don't you let that wall down? Let me take care of you, instead of you taking care of everyone else for a change." His warm hands began to ghost up your forearms, trailing the places that made your ears ring.
"I don't know, I-"
"I'd make you forget about all that shit in your past," Rafe came down to whisper in your ear, his lips a mere centimeters from touching your skin, "make you feel good for once." He cooed.
You were strong. So very strong in a world filled with gawking men and empty promises. But when you saw that look on Rafe Cameron's face, looking down at you as though he was drunk off your presence, you could've swore your knees were going to buckle right there. You had never felt such an intensity before as you did under the gaze of the blue-eyed Kook, despite having plenty of experience prior to him. But he had much more conviction with his words than anyone else had ever shown you, a credence that you couldn't even deny yourself. You wanted to shove him off and do what your mind was telling you to, but your body and heart said otherwise. You froze right before him, allowing him to take you under his magnetizing spell while his fingers danced along your soft skin. You fought in desperation with your indecorous thoughts with hope that if you ignored them that they would go away, but you for unfortunately mistaken as the feeling of Rafe's touch became more persuasive than the voices in your head telling you to run.
"Can we get out of here?" You asked abruptly, your body full of heat.
"I thought you'd never ask."
A million things ran through Beth's mind as she furiously tried lighting her cigarette but the damn flame refused to flicker for longer than a second. Her mother, Benny Watts, Harry, Cleo, Bargov, Bargov, Bargov, they all consumed her every waking moment. Her hangover thumped violently in her head, the consequences of spending the whole day drinking whatever she could get her hands on the day prior, yet another thing distracting her. She wanted to scream. She wanted to cry. She wanted to break the damn lighter and-
"Beth?" The flame flickered, lighting her cigarette as a new voice sent a chill down her spine. Familiar, oh so familiar. A voice she so often thought about, dreamt about even. Her arms dropped to her side, pulling the cigarette along as she shakily exhaled a cloud of smoke into the crisp morning air. Her tongue swiped over her lips and she turned to face him. He was no longer a boy. He was a young man now.
"(Y/N)." She greeted, her eyes dropping to scan his figure. He wore a cozy-looking long-sleeved sweater and his coat draped over his arm. He looked grown, obliviously, but it startled how mature he appeared. No longer the sly jock who smoked with her behind the school and listened to her explain chess without teasing her or trying to change her. Her former second biggest fan - her first biggest fan would always be Alma, her beautiful complicated adoptive mother -, her first kiss, her first time, her first heartbreak. "You look... good." She hadn't intended for it to come out so bitter.
"You changed your hair." (Y/N) smiled, that damned smile that'd made her heart skip a beat when she'd first seen it directed at her in the hallway at school. His gaze lifted to her red locks, mostly blocked by the beanie she wore. She'd barely brushed it that morning, only raked her fingers through it and when it refused to comply she'd opted for covering it. "It suits you, Beth. It's- It's good seeing you."
She looked a mess, she realized, and bit her tongue. Beth smiled, forcibly and awkwardly, and took another drag from her cigarette to ease her jittering nerves. Not even Benny Watts had that sort of effect on her, even with his fluffy hair and cheeky smile. "I didn't think you'd still live around here. You said you wanted to leave this place and never come back."
"I did leave. For college, I mean. I came back after graduating." He explained with a casual shrug. Of course, he had his life together. Beth hummed absentmindedly and nodded, rolling the cigarette between her index and middle fingers as she tried shoving down all the 'what ifs' desperately trying to rise. "I hear you've made quite the name for yourself, Beth. I'm happy for you."
"You weren't so happy when I had to attend tournaments." The words tumbled out quickly, far too fast for her to shut her mouth before she got the sentence out. (Y/N)'s smile faltered slightly and he chuckled dryly, something that made her wince. But all the inconveniences that'd piled up had put her in too of a bad mood to even think about apologizing.
"Yeah, it doesn't help you chose a tournament over being here when my father passed, Beth. When I needed you most, you were gone. I think most people would be upset over that, don't you?" Beth pressed her lips together and she nodded, her gaze dropping down onto the pavement beneath her feet.
"Yeah, I... I was a lousy partner." She admitted quietly. "I didn't mean to... I didn't mean to hurt you, (Y/N). Really. I- I just-"
"It's fine, Beth. It's in the past. We were kids. I never thought we'd end up as high school sweethearts, anyway." It stung to hear, especially when Alma had teased her about him being 'the one'. She nodded, forcing another tight-lipped smile in feigned agreeance and taking a long drag from her cigarette before dropping it on the floor and stepping on the end. She exhaled the smoke and motioned toward the building.
"Are you here for someone?" For her?
"Yeah, actually, my..." He paused. "My, uhm, my fiancée's nephew is actually competing today. She's out of town so she asked me to, uhm... show some support, I guess."
Fiancée. God, it'd felt like she'd been sucker-punched. "Oh." She simply blurted out in response, her mouth refusing to form any other words. (Y/N) nodded, releasing a breathy laugh as if her world hadn't suddenly turned on its axis. There'd always been a part of her that believed they'd find each other again, that he'd attend a tournament and they'd catch up only to begin their romance all over again.
"I could... I could see about getting you an invitation if you'd like? It'd be... nice to have you there, Beth."
"Yeah, of course, I'm... I'm happy for you." What a lie.
From the moment you moved into the house across from his, you'd already decided that you would stick to Katsuki like glue.
You just couldn't help it. After all, he stood out from the rest (even if it was in a bad way at times), which made it almost impossible for you to keep your eyes off him. He was headstrong and brave, not to mention incredibly attractive. Before you'd realized it, you were crushing on him hard.
But being the kind of person that you were, it didn't occur to you to try and hide your feelings. Instead, you clung to his side and made sure to seek him out at every available opportunity. You were incredibly thankful to have made it into U.A, because it allowed you to see him during class as well.
At the beginning, Katsuki thought you would give up and get bored of pestering him after a while. He clearly didn't seem to realize just how strongly you felt about him.
No matter how often he scoffed at you or told you to get lost, you were still right there, grinning at him ear-to-ear.
"I love you, Katsuki!"
Words that the average person struggled to say fell from your lips without so much as a second thought. The first time Katsuki had heard you say you loved him, his eyes had gone wider than ever. He even wondered if you were just playing a prank on him or something.
She's such an idiot, he thought. She doesn't even mean that. It's so dumb.
He'd long since convinced himself that you were just some ditzy girl without a serious bone in your body. That was why, even when you kept on insisting that you loved him - more than anything, as you so often stressed - Katsuki didn't take it to heart. He never stopped to actually consider that you were telling him the honest and unfiltered truth.
Until the day you got upset with him.
"Quit it with that sappy shit," he snapped. "I'm tired of hearing you spew the same garbage all the time."
It was just like any another day. You were clinging onto his arm and gushing about how much you loved him. As much as Katsuki wanted to say that he'd gotten to used to this by now, the truth was that he hadn't. Every time you hugged him or got extra close and said those kinds of things, he could feel his chest getting tight and his cheeks burning. Even if you were just running your mouth without meaning what you said, it was still embarrassing as all hell. And despite what most people probably thought, he did get flustered.
That was why he lashed out at you. He was fed up with being the only one to get worked up while you said all that stuff without even batting an eye. It wasn't like he actually disliked you or anything. Far from it, in fact. Even if he wouldn't admit it, you were the person he considered closest to him.
Perhaps that's why he felt comfortable speaking brashly. He'd always done it until now; why should today be any different?
Needless to say, dejection was quick to sweep across your face. You looked weary all of a sudden. You weren't smiling the way you usually did.
"Okay," you said softly. "I'm sorry. I just thought... I don't know. But I'm sorry. I should've taken the hint by now."
From that day onward, you didn't say a single word to him. You breezed past him in the hallways without so much as glancing his way. You didn't bother asking to walk home with him the way you usually did. Even when your parents came over to hang out at Katsuki's place - since your families were on good terms - you didn't come along with them. You purposefully stayed home, as if you no longer wanted anything to do with him. You were avoiding him. Did you not like him all of a sudden, or what the fuck?
Katsuki had always been stubborn, even as a child, so it took him a while to come to terms with the fact that he missed having you around. He missed having you cling to him and smile like you didn't have a single worry in the world. He missed seeing your cute face and feeling your arms wrap him in a hug.
Katsuki had liked you back for a while, but he was just too hardheaded to see it.
After finally coming to the realization that having you around was something he wanted, Katsuki did what he'd never done before and sought you out himself.
He managed to corner you during lunch, in the cafeteria, so that you couldn't try and pull a fast one on him. As expected, you refused to so much as meet eyes with him, but when Katsuki put his mind to something, he couldn't be deterred.
"You're done ignoring me," he frowned, grabbing you by the hand. Even though you tried to protest, he held on tight. "I need to talk to you. Aren't you going to hear me out?"
Katsuki didn't even realize it, but his gaze was nowhere near as confident and assured as it usually was. In fact, it was almost as if his eyes were pleading for you to stay. He really, really wanted you to stay with him.
Luckily, you'd always been the better person. Certainly a better person he was.
You nodded slowly. "Alright. Let's talk."
Relief couldn't even begin to express what Katsuki felt. For a moment, he thought he might faint from the stress. He was worried that you were seriously done with him for good. But you were giving him another chance, and this time, he wasn't going to screw it up.
Katsuki gripped your hand as tightly as he could while the two of you walked out of the cafeteria together. His eyes scanned the surrounding area, searching for someplace quiet and secluded. Confessing his feelings was actually a much more frightening thought than he would've liked to admit, but you were special to him. For you, he could set aside his petty pride.
After all, you were worth it.
Hi! How are you? May I please request a fic with Kamui where he gets caught sneaking around SWORD territory and badly beaten, the reader finds him and takes him to the Nameless City where she nurses him back to health? The theme is "be good to the crows, the crows will be good to you" because crows do remember faces and will give people who are nice to them random trinkets they find. In H&L, that could be saving her from some thugs or bringing her to live with one of them. No pressure, take your time! Thanks! ❤️
Crows never forget
a/n: Hello, it took too long for me to write sorry:( But it was really an amazing idea, there will be definitely a part2🫡 It is all fluffy and soft 😭 I hope you like it 🌸💕
Sorry for the grammer or spelling mistakes.English is not my main language so...
Thank you and love you 🥰
Warnings: mention of fights, blood, wounds but mostly fluffy
Tumblr media
Dark streets had always scared the young girl. Even though she had been wandering the streets for years, she knew that the SWORD area was never safe. She was going to a nearby market to cook dinner for the kids. Even though she couldn't buy much, she wanted them to be able to eat warm meals on a cold winter day.
The weather was quite cold, she had to be quick. The moment she left the Nameless City, she had a bad feeling.
SWORD was pretty chaotic these days. She had to go back before anything happened to her.
She hadn't gone far, and as she walked down the quiet street, she saw someone fall to the ground in the narrow passage behind the containers. Even though she was undecided whether to check it out or not, she gave in to her curiosity and walked there slowly.
A masked boy, dressed in black and obviously around her age, was lying on the ground. Blood was flowing from his head and his face was injured. Even though she couldn't see his face because of his mask, she was sure she didn't know who he was.
"Hey! Are you okay?"
She asked worriedly and shook him gently. When she realized that the boy opened his eyes but could not move, she was not sure what to do.
Should she help him? Her brothers probably wouldn't like this. But she didn't want to leave him here injured.
She looked for a while to see if there was anyone around to help her. Noone was there. But the boy didn't look too heavy.
Kamui was watching the young girl with faint eyes. He should have stood up, he should have walked away from here immediately. But all his bones ached. He couldn't even move his finger. The young girl was calling out to him, but he didn't have the energy to answer.
Y/n crouched down in front of him and called out to Kamui
“Jump on my back, I will carry you.”
Kamui was looking at her in astonishment as if the young girl had just said the most ridiculous thing in the world. He never believed that this girl could carry him. But y/n was pretty confident.
“Hey, hurry up. We must leave here as soon as possible.”
Kamui knew he had no choice. Even though it hurt a lot, he sat up slightly and wrapped his arms around the young girl's neck.
He was heavy, the young boy was heavier than he looked. But y/n was determined. She would carry him to a safe place, albeit slowly.
***
Despite all the stares of the people around, Y/n brought the young boy to the Nameless City. Kamui knew that the young girl could be in a difficult situation. He had regained some of his strength. He gently touched y/n's shoulder
“You can put me down, you must be very tired.”
Y/n giggled.
“I'm not very weak. Don't worry, we're almost there."
Kamui was listening to the young girl with fascination. She was both strong and fearless. He was also feeling quite embarrassed.
Not much time had passed, when y/n walked the streets of the Nameless City for a while, her brothers blocked her path.
“Rude Boys” y/n stopped her steps when Kamui whispered in surprise. Of course, they couldn't pass through here without being seen by them.
Kamui slowly landed on the ground, but y/n immediately took his arm. The young boy looked pretty bad for standing.
“Y/n, who is this?”
When Takeshi approached the young girl and asked, Kamui shivered as he looked at the man in front of them. SWORD was much more than their little games.
“I don't know who he is” y/n replied calmly. “I found him injured on the street.”
Kamui looked at the young girl's answer. Yes, it was true, but was now the right time to be so honest?
Takeshi didn't react. He didn't want to shout at the young girl. Everyone loved y/n. He also loved the young girl very much. But he couldn't allow a stranger to enter the city.
“I can't allow this y/n, you have to leave him where you found him.”
“Hey, stop talking about him like he's a puppy.”
The young girl wanted to erase her brothers' seriousness by making a joke, but she wasn’t successful.
“Y/n, Im telling you for the last time-“
"Me too. I want to help him. He's just a boy around my age."
When the young girl raised her voice at Takeshi, P intervened. He was always more understanding.
“Y/n, you know the rules of the city. You don't even know who he is. I'm sorry, but we can't allow this."
Even though P spoke in a soft tone of voice, his authoritarian attitude was clear. Kamui didn't know what to do. He knew that he had really put the young girl in a difficult situation. But he didn't ask her for help.
As the argument between Y/n and the Rude Boys continued, a voice everyone recognized was heard. When Kamui looked at who the deep but sweet voice was coming from, he didn't expect to see the famous leader of the Rude Boys.
Of course he knew him. The famous Smoky. He knew he would do anything to protect his family. So he couldn't help but wonder what he would do to him right now.
“Y/n-chan… is he your friend?”
With Smoky's question, everyone turned to him. Y/n looked at the boy on her arm who couldn't even stand and smiled.
“Will you believe me if I say yes, Smoky-nii?”
Y/n was a sweet girl. She had never done anything to put her family at risk. She cared about everyone as much as Smoky. But Smoky knew she was still a kid. Of course she could make mistakes
“Y/n, I've known you almost since you were born. Of course, I know that when you want to lie, you start mocking.”
Y/n smiled but Smoky wasn't smiling.
“I'm sorry, I can't allow this.”
"Then I'll go with him too."
With the young girl's sentence, there was a deep silence. Smoky knew her well. He knew she could really do it. He didn't like the determined look in her eyes.
When Y/n looked into her brother's eyes, Smoky sighed even though Takeshi and P protested. He nodded and took a few steps closer to Y/n and Kamui
“Okay, but we won't take responsibility for him. Please don't disappoint me, kiddo.”
Y/n smiled and nodded. Even if she was making a mistake, she would figure it out before anyone else. But she still trusted the boy she had met half an hour ago.
***
After Smoky’s permission to the young girl, P did not want her to suffer any more and took Kamui on his back. After walking for a while, they entered the building where y/n was staying. After placing Kamui harshly on the bed, he gave the young boy a threatening look and turned to the young girl.
“One of the boys will also stay here for the night. If there is a problem, don't forget to call us.”
Y/n smiled and nodded at the soft-hearted boy.
“Thank you nii-chan, don't worry.”
P patted the young girl's head and took one last look at the boy who was watching them with weak eyes on the bed and left.
Y/n looked at the young boy after P left and smiled. The mask on his face was still there.
“I won't ask who you are.”
Kamui whispered.
"Thank you"
Y/n could tell from his voice that he was still in pain.
“I'll find something to clean your wounds. Don't go anywhere okay? Although I don't think you can go, but-"
Y/n giggled at what she said and left the room. She knew that there was a first aid kit in one of the old cabinets inside the building. She quickly started looking for it.
After a while, she returned to the room with the kit she found. But she noticed that the boy in the bed had already fallen asleep.
***
When Kamui woke up in the morning, he could feel his whole body aching. He was surprised to realize that the mask on his face was still there. He looked around and looked for the young girl, but the room was empty.
Even though it hurt, he stood up and looked at himself in the broken mirror on the wall. He had bruises and band-aids on his face. Someone had cleaned his wounds. When he pulled down his mask and looked at his face, he realized that the mask had never been removed and smiled.
Didn't she really wonder who he was?
He lay on the bed in the room and thought for a while. Should he go? But he wanted to thank the young girl. Were his friends worried about him? They would probably be very angry.
While he was lost in his thoughts, he did not notice the young girl entering the room. When he noticed the girl looking at him with a tray in her hand, he turned to her.
The young girl looked confused for a while, then smiled. Kamui was trying to understand what she was surprised about. Immediately afterwards, he realized that his mask was not on his face.
“Didn't you really take off my mask yesterday?”
Y/n laughed and shook her head.
“You were injured, I didn't want to take it out without your permission. This is SWORD, everyone has a valid reason to hide their personality.”
Kamui smiled, surprised by how thoughtful the young girl was.
“You must be hungry, I brought warm soup for you.”
Kamui looked at the tray in the girl's hand and slowly sat up in bed. His whole body still ached.
“Kamui, Kamui Ito.”
The young girl sat on the chair next to the bed and handed the tray to the boy. She smiled.
“Y/n, but you probably already know my name.”
Kamui laughed and shook his head. The smell of the soup on the tray made him realize how hungry he was.
“I… thank you. I will never forget what you truly did for me.”
Y/n smiled at the boy who shyly tried to thank her. The scars on his face were obvious, but he had a very sweet face. For a moment she realized that she had been staring at his face for too long and looked away. Kamui had done the same thing.
“I better go now, I don't want to cause you any more problems.”
Y/n laughed.
“If you are still tired, you can rest, but if you want to go, I can walk with you.”
Kamui laughed.
“I may look pretty weak, but I'm not bad at fighting.”
Y/n giggled and shook her head.
“I don't think Suzuran students are weak, I just wanted to say goodbye to you.”
Kamui was embarrassed by the sentence the young girl said sweetly, he even thought his cheeks were turning red. But then he realized what the young girl said.
“You… How do you know that I am from Suzuran?”
Y/n smiled and nodded.
“I hope you don't think you're the only one who knows something.”
Kamui frowned when he realized that the young girl was much more mysterious than she seemed, now he was even more curious about who she was. But he left that for later, he had to enjoy the short moment he could spend with her right now.
He took a spoonful of his soup and relaxed with the warmth entering his body. Y/n smiled as she watched him. He knew that the boy sitting in front of her was a very dangerous person, despite his innocent face. She didn't need to know him completely to know that. But she didn't want to think about that right now, she had to enjoy the little moment she could spend with him.
Hi, I’m not sure if you’re requests are open so feel free to ignore this but if not, can you do a Jamie request where he and the reader are heavily in the “between friends and lovers” phase and Jamie ditches hanging out with the boys to spend the night with her when she turns down their invite cause she’s burnt out from work?
I'm in a writing mood so I'm going through so old requests in my inbox
Jamie sat in their booth, tracing a smiley face in the condensation that was growing on his beer. It was a Saturday night and he and the boys had gone out. He'd texted you to come with him when they'd left almost 30 minutes ago but he still hadn't heard back from you.
You and him were... close. He wasn't quite sure where he stood with you actually. He wasn't sure friends got drunk and made out on the couch but he didn't think girlfriends left in a hurry the next morning.
He didn't want you to leave. When he woke up, reaching out for your warm body, only to find himself alone, he'd been so disappointed. And the next time he'd seen you, you pretended it didn't happen. But all Jamie could think about was how you felt wrapped in his arms, lips feverishly moving against each other.
His phone buzzed and he grabbed for it a bit too quickly.
y/n <3: sorry, cant come out
jamie:everything alright?
y/n<3: yeah just tired, have fun
Jamie stared at your response, pursing his lips as he tapped the table anxiously.
"Jamie, if you shake your leg any fast, you're gonna cause and earthquake," Colin chuckled as he and Isaac slid back in across the booth.
Jamie didn't even realize he'd been shaking his leg. "Whoops, sorry mate." He glanced down at his phone again and made a decision. "Look, sorry guys, I think I've gotta go."
"What? You're ditching us?" Isaac barked in outrage. "We just got out here."
"Sorry, I owe you one," Jamie downed his beer and threw down some quid. "Next rounds on me."
And he was out the door.
...
You were laying on your couch, a heating pad on your stomach and an ice pack on your head. You had a movie on in the background but really you were just enjoying not standing on your feet. It had been a week. A long week. And most of all, you missed Jamie.
When you were especially busy at work you didn't get to see him a lot. But part of it was you avoiding him. You didn't want to be there the next morning when he sobered up and realized the mistake he'd made by kissing you. Then making out with you.
There was a knock at the door and you groaned, not moving from your spot. Whoever it was, they would have to come back another time. But after a moment, the knocking returned. You huffed and got up out of your very comfortable position to go open the door. Surprisingly, it was:
"Jamie?" you questioned, flipping on the porch light. "What are you doing here?"
He shrugged and pulled out a bottle of prosecco. "Thought you could use a drink."
You stared at the alcohol in his hand. This couldn't be happening again. Was he trying to get you drunk so you'd be stupid enough to kiss him again?
"Jamie..." You bit your lip. "I'm not sure that's a good idea."
As if he read your mind, his eyes widened. "Oh, shit. Fuck, no. That's not what I meant- we don't need to- fuck, I'm sorry. I'm not trying to pavlov you."
"Pavlov me? What are you on about?" You scoffed, quirking an eyebrow.
"Keeley told me about Pavlov and the dog and whatever," he explained. "And I just brought you this cause I know you can't stand champagne and we don't even have to drink, I just wanted to-fuck I'm sorry."
You giggled at his flustered behavior. "It's okay, why don't you come inside."
You brought him inside and put the prosecco in the refrigerator, far from reach.
"Now, tell me, Jamie, why are you here?" you asked as you flopped down on the couch next to him.
He shrugged, pulling a pillow into his lap. "I wanted to make sure you were okay, is all. Missed you this week."
You felt your heart flutter. "I missed you, too."
He looked up at you. Somewhat surprised by your admission.
"I thought... I mean I hoped that after last week..."
"Jamie, let me stop you there," You cut him off. "You don't need to try and spare my feelings. I fucked up."
"You... fucked up?"
"Yeah. When I get drunk I get emotional and I let my stupid feelings get the better of me," you frowned, shaking your head. "But I care more about our friendship. So let's just pretend it never happened."
Now it was Jamie's turn to frown. "Your feelings?"
"Yeah, I know, I'm sorry," you averted your eyes from him. "It's stupid, I'll get over them. But let's lay off the prosecco until then ye-"
He grabbed your chin between his fingers and gently pulled you so you were forced to look at him. Your eyes widened, when did he get so close?
"(Y/N), do you like me?" His voice was low and husky.
Your eyes were so big as they looked back and forth between Jamie's grey ones. "Yes."
"Can I kiss you?"
What? He was fully sober asking if he could kiss me. But his grip on my chin was firm, yet gentle as he rubbed his thumb back and forth. You just nodded. He pulled you the rest of the way into him as he kissed you.
The last time you'd kissed, you'd both been bubbly and drunk. The kiss was sloppy and heated but this kiss... this kiss was slow and sweet. He took his time, moving his hand to cup your head in his hand, his fingers tangling in your hair. He moved his mouth slowly, each kiss lasting a moment longer than the last until he finally pulled back just a bit.
His eyes opened, meeting yours. You were breathless, longing for more. He kissed you one more time, shorter, like he was making sure he'd memorized the way your lips felt. When he pulled away, his eyes were still closed, a lazy smirk appearing on his face.
"That was..." you started.
"Good, really good," he finished, his eyes finally opening. "I mean, was it good for you?"
"Yes," you answered, a second too quickly. "Let's do it again."
He chuckled, pulling you into his lap. "Oh, we will be doing a lot of that from now on."
{All of this is from Gally's P.O.V}
I'll be the first to admit it. I didn't trust Y/N when she first came up. I was worried she'd throw everything out of order or was sent up as someone we need to be suspicious of.
That had been proven wrong three Greenie's ago. She didn't even interact with people much, and she's definitely never done something to throw this place off balance. If anything she contributed a lot, going in-between jobs whenever needed or just doing smaller ones throughout the day. She could be a Builder one day and Slicer the next. She'd volunteer as a Cook for one hour and switch to being a Slopper.
There was only one thing she refused to touch which was actually surprising. Despite what you're thinking it's not the Maze. Some days she's actually a Runner. No, she refuses to be anywhere near the Greenie's. When the box comes up she's almost nowhere to be found. Sometimes she's not even a Runner or even just in the Maze so I don't know how she disappears for the entire day. I'll be the last to admit that I've actually looked to see if I could spot her. So far nothing.
So I did something that I don't even know the reason for and hatched a plan. When everyone's by the box I'm checking every square inch of this place. There's no real reason for me to do this. She's not a troublemaker. I just don't get how nobody else notices her absence.
So I was waiting for everyone to start standing by the box. A few others were already making their way over just in case something happens. After another minute, then two, then five, basically everyone has left. Knowing I had to be quick since she obviously couldn't stand them I tried the first place that made sense.
The Deadheads were never something I've really gone in. Maybe once or twice to chase down a Greenie but never without any other reason. Still, Y/N knows not a lot of people need to come here. Sometimes the Track-hoes need fertilizer, which she also got without hesitation, but never anybody else. This was the perfect hiding spot for anyone.
♡ - - - ♡
As I went further in I realized she definitely wasn't here. I kicked the tree next to me, and just a second later I heard rustling above me. I looked up, puzzled by the noise, and spotted two feet dangling near the top branches. Suddenly I didn't know what exactly I would do. I hadn't actually planned this far ahead.
Debating whether or not this was completely stupid I decided it probably was. Despite that I started making my way up the tree anyway. Random branches sticking along with painful thorns tore up my hands. If this is where she goes to hide why pick here? Especially since she actually was at the top.
Still, fueled by determination I didn't quit until I was on the branch beside her. She didn't say anything or acknowledge that anyone was next to her for what felt like centuries.
"I wanted to know why you're never there,"I admitted. As always she didn't react to my words. She doesn't react much to what anyone really says. She'll talk to you and have a conversation, but she has this blank look the entire time. It's not a zoning out or disinterested look. It's more of she's expecting you to tell her to do something, maybe work another job around here. If it's not she still sits there talking but stone-faced. It's hard to explain.
"Shouldn't you be with everyone else in case the Greenie gets violent? You know? Scare them with your 'day one Greenie' and all that,"She asked, after a while.
"Probably,"I shrugged.
"Why are you up here with me then? You've been here for about two hours."
"I didn't even know this place was that big,"I responded.
"Well, it is. Now answer my first question. Why aren't you with the others greeting the Greenie?"
"I got permission from Alby to not be around during Greenie day."
I have to admit that this caught me off guard. I don't know what I expected, but it wasn't that she actually asked so she wouldn't be around them.
"Dibs?"I asked, not knowing what that meant or even if I heard her right.
"Why did you ask him though?"I questioned. She didn't say anything as she looked at the ground. For a second I thought she was just going to stop talking all together until she mumbled something under her breath.
"Dibs."
"Yeah. When I came up a bunch of you starting calling dibs on me. I heard a few 'is she hot?' and 'I wanna look'. I didn't hear many people say anything to them. Just Newt pulling me out of the box and promising me I'd be okay, Alby telling them to get to work, and you telling them to shut their mouths before you make them."
"Oh. I forgot about that,"I said without thinking.
"Of course you did,"She sighed. "You know, you all greet the Greenie's in a normal way? You pull them up, maybe laugh at their confusion, and explain everything. Sometimes you chase after the ones who run like you did me."
"I couldn't let you go in the maze,"I pointed out.
"Why do you think I was running Gally?"
"Because you were surrounded by a bunch of strange boys and no memory?"I guessed.
"Partly. Most of it was the fear of what could happen. Of what one of you could do to me, much less an entire group. I didn't know my name, but I knew that I wasn't a human at that moment. I was nothing more than a piece of meat, a joke to spread around like ash, and a little girl with no true protection. All I could think was that I couldn't let someone catch me. I couldn't even let them come near me. If I fought I knew there were more of you. Even if I know you wouldn't attack me now I didn't then. All I could do was run."
I didn't know what to say to any of that. I remember that day, but I never actually paid it much mind. I just thought it was another Greenie day. Only there was a girl this time. I didn't think anything more about it. To her though, it was everything different.
"I know some of you still think I'm weak. That's why I travel from job to job and do the things a lot of you don't like. Plus, I'm never around too many people for long. You didn't trust me when I came up, right?"
I just stared at the ground not knowing what to say to that either.
"Not at first,"I confessed.
"Right. Well, I don't trust some of you. Even those of you who didn't say anything like that are people I keep an eye on. Sure, I have some friends I'd give my life for, but it's either because they stood up for me or weren't there. Newt, Alby, Minho, Ben, and Chuck are all the people I truly feel safe with. I'd trust more than I do if we were friends, but I'd still come to you if I was in a situation that called for it."
"Well, you followed me to my hiding spot so I'm going to tell you anyways. After the first two I realized you all treated them so differently. No dibs or jokes. It sucked to know that my welcome was me being talked about like an object right in front of me. No shame, no guilt, no anything. Just comments. That hurts sometimes. Knowing that nobody is yelling at anyone to shut up or leave Greenie alone hurts. Because I don't feel like a Glader. That's why I took so long to carve my name on the wall. I feel like an outsider in what's supposed to be my home."
"You're wondering what this has to do with avoiding Greenie's, aren't you?"She asked.
"Oh. No, I kind of forgot about that part,"I admitted.
I just sat there dangling my feet above the ground like an idiot. I really, really, really, didn't think this far. What exactly do you say when someone pours their heart out to you? Much less someone who you've never had a personal conversation with?
"I don't know if it means much, but I never really saw you as weak. Maybe suspicious, but never anything else negative. You work hard, and you've actually helped fix a few things we hadn't noticed."
"What choice did I have? Not working hard means people can make more assumptions about me. Some still do. I might accidentally drop something that doesn't seem heavy because I've spent hours carrying other heavy things or trip over my feet in the garden because my legs hurt from running the maze yesterday. Then, a few people may still make a comment."
"Well, that's stupid. Nobody else works every job here. What right do they have to say anything?"
"It's just how it is Gally."
"It shouldn't be though."
"There's not much anyone can really do. I've accepted that it's not me and brushed it off."
I turned to look at her since I've never actually seen her there. She was staring straight ahead with the same blank expression.
"You thought it was you?"I asked, not knowing how that was possible.
"For a bit. The life we live isn't easy. There's a lot of stress and questioning your sanity. You don't think you're the only one who sits on the Watch Tower at night to think, do you?"
"I leave when I realize someone's there. I didn't realize who was there for three nights until I almost got caught one night. I make sure to check more carefully now,"She explained.
"If you want you can just come up, and we could just share it. I'll sit on one side, and you can sit on the other,"I offered.
She didn't say anything so I looked back at her. For the first time that I can remember she had the ghost of a smile on her face.
"Yeah. I think that's fine. After all I trust my friends with my life."
"Yeah. So we're friends now?"
"Depends. Are you willing to deal with what people could say about you?"
"Yeah."
"Then, yes Gally. We're friends now."
Lawrence continued to wake long before the house began to stir, when the moon and sun hung simultaneously, vying for dominance in the sky. That was, if he managed to sleep at all.
He had moments in-between his darkened moods, mostly during the precious few moments that he actually got to spend with his family, that the clouds in his mind parted but for the most part, he remained unhappy. His wife noticed his exhaustion of course, worrying silently much of the time, trying to remind him to slow down every once in awhile. However they both understood it simply wasn't within in their means for Lawrence to not have to work so damn hard.
That didn't keep Winifred from trying to brighten up his days whenever they got lucky and their children remaining asleep a few extra hours in the morning. And that morning in particular, it seemed they had been blessed with good fortune.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Good morning," She whispered, her voice velvety and almost melodic, a tone she saved only for her husband, while her digits began dancing along the woolen fabric of his trousers.
Lawrence tried to slow his thoughts, to stop thinking about his seemingly never ending to-do list.
He thought of the drunk he'd had to kick out the night before, the pesticide that wasn't working to remove the bugs, the chickens that needed more feed, and the soil that needed tilling. Around and around the thoughts circled, unable to slow them long enough to concentrate on the warmth of his wife's delicate hand slowly beginning to move downwards.
Tumblr media
As she slipped her hand into his trousers, Lawrence's heart began to race. Her gentle hands were more than welcome, and her supple lips kissing his chest through his shirt would have normally been all it took to bring him closer to that euphoric place he so often craved to be at with her.
It wasn't that he didn't want to go there, truly, he did! But it seemed nothing was happening, his body simply not responding to the movements of Winifred's softened hands inside his slacks. He laid back, staring at the ceiling while his mind didn't allow him any grace, even at an intimate moment such as this, and continued to fire at a rapid pace.
Once Winifred realized what was happening, or what wasn't happening rather, she withdrew her hand immediately. "Is everything alright?" She asked sheepishly.
Lawrence sighed, closing his eyes as he settled back into the pillows, a masculine attempt to mask his embarrassment, he simply nodded in response.
This had never happened in their three years of marriage, and she hardly knew what to think, only that she felt guilty for not realizing sooner that he hadn't been in the mood. "I'm sorry, Lawrence, I wouldn't have if I'd known that you didn't want to." She clarified.
"It isn't that I don't to, I just can't right now...I suppose I'm still rather tired." That was the understatement of the century. He was far past tired, beyond exhausted even and this was proof that his body couldn't keep going like this for much longer.
Nonetheless, with Lawrence continuing to put on a courageous face day after day, Winifred could not have realized how much he was suffering inside. Consequently, she started coming up with an explanation for his rejection the way she knew best - by blaming herself.
Since her second pregnancy, she had put on more weight, and while she tried her best to view it as an act of love rather than something superficial, she had become quite self conscious about her slightly pudgy tummy and stretch marks. "Is it, is it me?" She asked out loud. Once the question left her lips though, she couldn't even look in her husband's direction anymore, dreading to hear the answer.
Having nearly gone mute with humiliation, Lawrence hid his face in his hand, trying to keep Winifred from noticing the way his cheeks now flushed.
Eventually, Lawrence rose from their bed with a heavy sigh. He wanted to reassure her, explain that it wasn't her fault in the least, that she was the most stunning woman he'd ever seen. But he couldn't find the right words, and so instead of saying much of anything at all, he mumbled a vague apology and headed towards the door to go find his work gloves and begin another day.
Winifred couldn't keep from feeling embarrassed, her chest rising and falling with the threat of tears until they eventually spilled over. However, the sound of her baby crying in the next room kept her from disappearing into the feeling. She simply wiped her eyes, ready to put on a happy face for her children and try to pretend this hadn't happened.
That very same afternoon, Millie and Winifred had been out shopping already at the markets when Winifred suggested they go into the secondhand store nearby. Nearly everyone they knew bought their fabrics from there, and it was much cleaner than the others in town, with hardly any stale odor or dust lingering in the air.
"What do you think of this?" Winifred asked, trying to choose between the white and pink spools of linen fabric.
"For who? Beth?" Millie asked, raising an eyebrow.
Winifred shook her head in response, dropping the fabric. "No! It's for me. My blouses are snug these days, and my skirts even tighter in the waist." She paused, turning to look at Millie's face who was still gazing at the linen. "I've been thinking maybe I need to add a little color into my wardrobe and try to be...a little more sophisticated?"
Millie furrowed her eyebrows, scrunching up her face. It was a gorgeous fabric, and it would make a striking gown for whoever decided to purchase it, but it still wasn't very 'Winifred'.
There were things that had changed about her best friend in the years that passed between them not speaking, but Millie was reasonably confident that her fondness for rich, dark colors hadn't. Or at least, she hoped not. It was one of the things that made Winifred who she was and Millie adored her allure to all things moody and macabre.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Millie and Winifred had been friends for so long that they could recall when they both wore ribbons and pigtails in their hair, since before they'd realized that someday boys were meant to cease their teasing and you were supposed to kiss them. It was a remarkable thing to keep a friendship for that many years and they both treasured it equally. Even more remarkable still, Millie could easily tell when she had something on her mind.
After a series of questions, Winifred finally told Millie what happened that morning, mortified by it all over again.
Millie responded with 'oh my', 'oh, honey' and 'you poor thing' throughout the entirety of the story. Still feeling rather troubled about it, Winifred found herself tearing up again during the retelling, but she knew that she could trust Millie.
After listening, Millie offered what she could of advice, finishing her thoughts on the matter by saying, "I've never seen anyone look at a person the way he looks at you. You move Heaven and Earth for that man, Winnie, I can promise you that."
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
As Millie had done for her so many times throughout their childhood, Winifred found herself feeling a bit better near the end of their conversation. She didn't know what she was going to do when Millie returned to London, but she couldn't worry herself with that thought today too.
She pulled Millie in for a hug, thanking her for the comfort, holding her for a long while before they interrupted by the sound of someone clearing their throat. When they pulled away, they noticed the shopkeeper was looming over them.
"I wasn't try to eavesdrop on you ladies, but I couldn't help overhearing your predicament." She bit her lip nervously before continuing. "I have a garment I think might be of interest to you...will you wait a moment longer so I can retrieve it from upstairs?" She asked.
After exchanging a single glance, they both turned back to her, giving an enthusiastic 'yes!' at the same time.
“Oh, so soon?” he leaned in, obviously interested in my request, “And what might your boon be?”
“As you can probably guess, I need a job. I have an interview tomorrow morning for the role of your PA. If that doesn’t pan out -because of anyone's request outside of your own- I still want a good-paying job with decent benefits. Okay?”
“Okay, I’ll cut it short, you’re hired.”
“Please, I don’t need your pity.”
"Oh, don't worry, I wouldn't hire you out of pity. It's because of what you did just now. I gave you barely any details, and you came up with a sub-par solution." Satisfied with his answer, he reaches over and takes a sip of my coffee.
"Sub-par says I go out, find your bodyguard, and drag him back here." He visibly aspirates, coughing into a napkin for a minute or so. I got up, got a straw, and returned. By the time I sat down, he had regained most of his composure.
"You had a good plan that led to a good solution," gesturing to himself, "I'm a rich asshole. Are we happy?” A slight rasp remained in his voice.
“Sufficiently. I accept the role of your PA, Mr. Stark. When should I start?"
"After your interview with Ms. Potts. You did say that if anyone aside from me was against you as my PA, you'd be fine with it."
I leaned back, covering my eyes with my hand, ”Yeah, I did."
"Don't try denying it. JARVIS has been recording- I'm sorry, what did you just say?"
"I fully acknowledge and stand by my previous statement. And, did you just admit to illegally recording our conversation?” My other hand raised pointing at him, “If so, that would be quite unfortunate for you and Stark Industries.” I separated my fingers to see his shocked yet slightly confused expression.
"Well, shit.”
I lowered my hand to the arm of the chair, tilting my head slightly, “Did you think I wouldn’t own up to my word? Please, Tony -can I call you Tony? I’m going to call you Tony- I do have morals, they’re a bitch, but they’re there. When I make promises, I follow through with them.” I look down at my lap, my hands wrapped around my stomach, “I hate people who break their promises. They are the worst kind of people. All that does is hurt those around them, but they’re too self-centered to realize that until it’s too late- sometimes even then it doesn’t click.” I glance up, he’s leaning closer to me, a worried look plastered across his face.
I straighten, collect my things, and move to get up, “I suppose I’ll see you at my interview tomorrow, Mr. Stark.” I walk away and out of the café, hearing the bell ring as I walk out.
Tumblr media
I fell face down into my bed, arms spread out. “I just met THE Anthony Edward Stark and acted like it was no big deal. What is wrong with me?” I grabbed a pillow, held it to my chest, curled up into the fetal position, and screamed. “How could I have acted like it was nothing? He’s an A-list celebrity and I just brushed it off!” I prop up onto my elbows, my hands extending forward.
I spent the afternoon and evening just watching TV and reading. While I didn’t typically read graphic books, Hemingway and Remarque’s book had been sitting in my collection untouched for far too long, and it wasn’t necessarily a horrible way to finish the day. About halfway through “All Quiet On The Western Front” I realized just how depressing this book was and how glad I hadn't gone over it with my high school classes. The case remained much the same for “A Farewell to Arms”.
My phone alarm went off, signaling it was time to start getting ready for bed. I got up to grab it, shutting off the tone. I stood up, went to the bathroom, completed my nightly routine, and set out my clothes for my interview, although it seemed I had been hired in all but formalities.
I woke up the next day with a slight ache in my bones but, nothing like the previous day. I got ready and headed out to the Stark Industries headquarters. When I arrived I wasn’t necessarily shocked. The lobby was sleek and modern, bustling with the morning rush. I walked up to the receptionist, an older woman, and told her that I was there for the interview for the role of Mr. Stark’s assistant. I confirmed she looked me up and down before saying my name aloud. She handed me a card, stating it was a single use and would be deactivated once I left the building before pointing me to the elevator, guarded by the head of security, Mr. Stark’s bodyguard, Happy Hogan.
I walked over he looked at me slightly puzzled as I walked up to the elevator, sliding the activated card. It took a moment or two before the door opened and I could not be happier. I walked in and the doors shut.
“Crap, I didn’t get the floor.” I placed my face in my hand, aggravated at my forgetfulness.
An electronic voice rang out, “I believe I can be of some assistance, Mx.”.
I screamed, “What the fuck?” I backed into a corner, grabbing the rails.
“Apologies, I seem to have startled you. I’m JARVIS, Mr. Stark’s AI.”
“O-okay? Can you send me up to Mrs. Potts’ floor?”
“Of course.”
The elevator ride passes quickly thanks to Stark’s AI. As the doors open JARVIS informs me that the door on the right leads to Ms. Potts’ office. I walk up to the door and knock, ”Come in!” A voice calls out. I open the door and introduce myself.
Ms. Potts was a taller woman with blonde hair. She ran around frantically, “I’m so sorry, an urgent business meeting just came up. Would it be okay to reschedule your interview?”
“Yes, yes, of course. These things happen, I understand. Is there anything I can do to help?” I move close to her desk.
The look on her face shows she didn't expect my reaction. "Um, yes. In one of the piles over there. There should be twelve documents with the keywords Stark v. Hammer." She points over the corner where there are three medium-sized piles of papers
"Oh, is that all?"
"Yes, thank you. My assistant has been on sick leave for two weeks and my office has become an absolute mess." I hear the clink of metal on the ground. She squats down, looking for whatever it was that had fallen.
"Really, it's no problem. I've worked in worse offices, this is nothing."
"What do you mean?"
"The lawyer I worked for in college. He was a mess. He wouldn't let anyone move his things, so it just stayed that way until he needed a specific paper or file, and then he would send me looking. Apparently, he did that to all of his assistants after one of them, about five years before me, lost one of the major papers in a big case for the firm. He fired her immediately." I rifled through the paperwork, quickly finding a handful of the documents.
"That sounds horrible, although, from a business person's perspective I can somewhat understand."
"Yeah, it was crazy. I worked for him for four years and almost feel bad for leaving. He finally adjusted and was comfortable with me going through the records." I had found all but one of the papers at this point and had looked through all three piles with no luck.
"Ms. Potts?"
She stands up, bumping her head on the edge of her desk, "Yes?"
"Sorry, um, are you okay?"
"Yes. I'm fine." She grasps the back of her head, wincing. She's clearly not.
"Are you sure? You hit your head pretty hard."
"Yes, really. What were you asking about?"
"Okay, are you sure all of the papers are over here? There's one missing. I've gone over the stacks at least three times."
"Yes, of course. They're all there, I could've sworn." She walks over, or at least attempts to as about halfway she grasps her head, a small groan accompanying the action. I run over, offering my arm. She takes my arm, and I lower her to the ground, a quiet 'thank you' thrown in the midst.
There was a small cut on the back of her head, a small amount of blood flowing out. I place my fingers on the cut, using my powers to heal it. A sharp pain found its way to the back of my head for a moment before it fades.
"Thank you. I think I just needed to sit down for a moment. But, yes, all of the papers should be over here. It's odd that there's one missing."
"Could it be in a different stack?"
"It shouldn't be, then again, I haven't exactly been keeping this place clean enough to say. Crap! The meeting's supposed to start in a few minutes."
"How far into the meeting do you need the papers, and how long do you expect this meeting will be?"
"Maybe two-thirds of the way through and half an hour at the shortest. Why?"
"I'm gonna buy you some time, obviously. I'll look through the rest of the papers to find the missing page. Once I find it I'll head over to your meeting room and deliver the papers as if you'd asked for them just before the meeting began. How does that sound?"
She walks up to me and hugs me. As she pulls away she says, "You are a lifesaver! Thank you." She grabs her papers and walks out of her office, presumably to the meeting room as I stand there stunned, unmoving as a stone.
When her trance breaks, I start moving around the room, quickly checking each pile for the missing paper. I tried to stay in the general area she originally pointed me to with no luck. I slowly moved towards the desk, it was the only place I hadn't checked yet.
I went through the different stacks before finding the paper in the third, guess it really was the charm. I collected all of the papers in a manilla folder, finishing it off with a paperclip -just as a precaution. As I went to grab the door handle JARVIS told me which meeting room they were on.
I walked out to the small foyer between the two offices and entered the elevator. JARVIS took me to the correct floor.
I walked up to the door of the meeting room Ms. Potts was in and knocked on the door before entering. I looked inside to see a variety of old, white businessmen and Ms. Potts in front of a projector explaining something I wasn't about to pretend I understood. She looked relieved.
I walked in just enough to where I could close the door, "Apologies, Ms. Potts, is this a bad time? I have the paperwork you requested."
"Oh no, not at all." She walked over to me, taking the folder from my hands. "Thank you." She whispered.
"It was no problem at all, Ma'am. Would you like me to continue working in your office, or go home for the day?"
"Please, wait in my office." She tipped her head slightly, a gesture that didn't go unnoticed.
I excused myself and headed back to Ms. Potts office. I waited for her in one of the armchairs at her desk. I checked my phone and realized I hadn't read the e-mail from Scott yet. I opened his message, the contents shocking me.
'Hi, I know it's been a while since we've talked, I mean really talked. I'm sorry, I chose a girl who saw me as the second choice over the person who's been my best friend practically since we met. I'm leaving the mansion too. Things have been crazy here. The professor is making Jean and Logan sub for all the classes you used to teach, and he'll be doing so for every teacher who leaves because of what happened. I'm planning on moving back to Anchorage. My parents left the house to Alex, but he gave everything to me in his will, making it mine. That house has to be 80 or so years old now, it's going to need a lot of repairs. I'll send you the address once it's all fixed up, maybe have some tea and catch up.
See you someday,
Scott.'
