your relationship with luke was amazing.
you’d never dated anyone before, but you weren’t sure how you could ever move on from him. he was nothing short of a gentleman as well as your bestfriend. he confided in you, as you did him, you held eachother and loved eachother. the only problem was that it wasn’t open. being two of the most well-known people at the camp, luke expressed his desire to you to have something to himself, you, to himself.
and at first you didn’t mind.
you loved sneaking away with him late at night, longing stares from across the room, and stolen moments whenever available. no one found out, and he wanted to keep it that way.
of course there were moments where the two of you messed up. accidentally wearing his shirt, the longer length drawing some stares but you’d brush them off, no one exactly was going to call out the daughter of hades. where your hair didn’t exactly cover all of the marks he’d left the night before, his hands were in your hair, his clothes were in your sheets.
and the two of you were always able to keep it hidden.
until you didn’t want to anymore.
you wanted to love him in the open, show everyone just how much you loved luke castellan. you’d bring it up to him when you spent time together, the idea of letting everyone know was foreign and unnecessary in his eyes, but it was all you wanted. just to be able to show how happy you are with him and so neither of you will get asked out anymore. but his kisses on your neck and trailing hands seemed to draw you away from the thought.
you kept telling yourself you were fine with it.
but a girl can only hold on so long, you were done with it, with him. it broke your heart, even thinking of not being with him anymore but you’d rather be free and sad then unknown and happy. the two of you were sat together, stargazing in the forest, your own hide out, deep in the woods, a clearing for the two of you.
he seemed so happy, with you. the whole night he chatted away with you, holding your hand, kissing you, hugging you. you loved him so much, he was your other half, your luke. you felt as if you’d implode. your heart clenched at the idea of being away from him. you knew you couldn’t live like this, “luke?” he turned your way, still smiling, “what’s up babe?” his smile dropped at the sight of your teary eyes and trembling lips, “hey, hey what’s wrong?”
you swallowed, “i— i can’t do this anymore, i can’t be a secret. i hate having your nights and being ignored in your mornings, i hate looking at all the girls fawn over you, knowing your mine. i hate not being able to tell you how i feel during the day, not being able to walk up to you and hug or kiss you. i hate it, and i hate myself for hating it. i just want to be with you.” luke’s eyes were glistening, his hand resting on your cheek, “don’t do this, please. you agreed to this, to our relationship. please don’t ask for more, isn’t this enough? am i not enough?”
he held your hand, pressing it to his chest. you could feel his heartbeat, the rhythm you listened to most nights, lulling you to sleep. you could see the gorgeous face you adored, and listened to the heavy breathing of the man you loved. your smile ignited a flicker of hope in his heart, “no, it’s not. i don’t want to be a secret. i want to be able to tell everyone how much you mean to me, i want you to tell everyone what i mean to you. to be able to talk about our future and our life, plan out the biggest of adventures and our wildest dreams. i can’t do that with someone who’d rather love me in the dark of night than the light of day.”
and with that, luke’s heart was beating faster, a tear falling down and his relationship with you in pieces. all he could do was watch you walk away, a part of him with you. he wanted to get up and chase you, tell you how much he truly loved you, but he sat and stared.
the next few weeks were miserable for both of you. sleepless nights, missing the other, no one to stare at anymore, no one to pass love notes to, no one.
luke had the attention of the entire camp, everyone but the person he wanted.
you had the love of everyone but him.
you tried your best to hide it, the pain in your chest, the tears you’d rid your body of at night, the bracelets and necklaces you hid at the bottom of your jewellery box. trying to eradicate any memory of luke castellan from your eye and life.
whereas luke found himself seeking you out. the horrible drawing youd made of him, the beaded bracelet with your nickname for him on it, the chapstick you left behind and your favourite shirt of his. it still smelled like your own perfume. his favourite photograph of the two of you, a polaroid, you kissing his cheek, with both of your matching necklaces on display.
luke seemed fine to everyone else, of course he did. why would he be any different? whereas you were less chatty, energy drained, and happiness gone. no one seemed to ask, too scared of the reply.
three months, without him.
it still hurt, seeing him. but day after day, it tended to get easier to get up. your friends were your saviours, and strength. they could infer the reason behind your sadness, but they didn’t push you. everyday became a routine, get up, get ready, eat, get through the day and relax at night. you thought you were doing better, until you saw him. happy and uncaring.
and all of a sudden you were back where you started. you were so tired of feeling unwanted, always getting frustrated when you cried, you were crying over someone who couldn’t care less.
so when one of the hermes boys approached you with a smile and a drink offering at a secret party in the woods, you were more than willing to take it. he was nice, and funny, and into you. whilst you laughed away with him, occasionally drinking and eating, luke was across the campfire from you, grip tightening on his cup. all the voices around him were muffled, he couldn’t care about their conversations when the girl he loved was right there.
it was one thing for someone to approach you but from his own cabin? it felt as if the guy was trying to piss him off, and he couldn’t stand for that. luke was trying his hardest to hold himself back, but then the guys hand was on your waist and the cup in his hand was crushed within an inch of its life.
suddenly, luke appeared out of nowhere, his eyes burning with jealousy. unable to control his emotions, he confronted the guy. “what the hell do you think you’re doing?” luke sneered as the boy, derek, looked at him confused, “what’re you talking about luke?” luke scoffed, his patience was wearing thin, and the stupid look on derek’s face looked so punchable, so that’s what he did.
the situation escalated quickly, and before you knew it, a full-blown fight broke out between luke and the derek. as chaos erupted around you, you began to realize the depth of luke's feelings. you knew him better than anyone around, you saw the pain in his eyes, hiding behind the rage. luke wasn’t overtly violent in his daily life, let alone starting a fight, all for you.
derek was holding on for sure, a few hits in but again, no one was really a match for luke. the crowd around you had grown, chanting and cheering mixed in with laughter. “luke! luke let him go.” you shouted at him, but it wasn’t really any use, you implored his cabin mates to pull him away, and after a few seconds of contemplating they agreed. derek scrambled away, running with a few friends, whether to chiron or the cabins, as long as it wasn’t near you, luke was happy.
you stormed over to luke, clutching him by his shirt, “let’s. talk.” a plethora of ‘ooh’s’ rung out as luke shrugged off all the hands holding him back.
you’d found a quiet spot to talk, and with tears streaming down your faces, you talked. for the first time in three months, you held a conversation. it obviously wasn’t breezy, yelling and shouting, shoves from you, a slap or two. “you ignore me for three months, and then you beat the shit out of a guy just because he talked to me? what the hell is wrong with you? you were completely fine after we broke up, why did you do that?”
luke took a step closer, “you thought i was fine? i was anything but, every single night, all i wanted was you. you drive me insane, do you get that? not having you, not being able to hold you, to be with you.” his hand held your waist tightly, pulling you into him.
you were looking up at him, nose to nose, heaving chests and an unbelievable amount of tension in the air. “to kiss you.” he whispered, before kissing your neck. your hand tangled itself in his curls as his hand tightened around your waist, the other holding the back of your neck. the two of you ended up pushed against a tree, roaming hands and messy kisses.
“does this mean you’ll take me back?” luke whispered, forehead against yours, “are you willing to go public?”
he smiled, “for you? anything.”

thoughts about miguel before i go to bed because i have a sudden creative burst and i need to release it otherwise i'm going to implode, i just love him so much, you guys, it's actually painful
miguel tends to stare a lot. not in a creepy way that has you wanting to put a lock on your face, but the way that he does it just makes you melt. there's nothing more than pure adoration that he has for you, it makes you question a times what exactly is so special that gives his gaze the power to melt you into a puddle.
he usually stops though when you notice. when you ask him about it, he dismisses your claim with a flick of his wrist and a "ah, it's nothing" even though you know damn well that it's something. sometimes, when you two don't say anything, just staring into each other's eyes, you're rewarded with a sweet kiss.
miguel's also big (not just in that way because i know what you're thinking, you whore), it's rubbed into your face basically wherever you go at home. taking off your shoes and leaving at the door only to look down and see a giant's footwear right next to them, getting a stain on your shirt due to a messy outing for dinner and having to wear his gargantuan jacket to cover it has your head reeling.
adding onto that, he is also touchy in the very subtle way that gets you all hot and bothered. barely a few minutes into your morning routine as usual, you can feel the hard contour of miguel's bare stomach press up behind you. his toned arm enters your vision as he reaches for something in one of the high cabinets, morning voice straight into your ear mumbling a small "lo siento" before he walks away and leaves you so dumbfounded.
he'll put a hand on your waist to gently move you aside if you're blocking the way, more unneeded, quiet apologies slip from his mouth and you get so frustrated that you have to resist the urge to just pull him in and kiss the smarts way from him. whenever you two are resting on the couch, rewatching yours or his favorite movie for the hundreth time and you pipe up with a question on what to order for dinner, where he always answers "whatever you want" with a peck to your cheek, where you always end up steaming hot from such a small gesture, all because of him.
remember what i said about mornings? well, miguel is always a treat in the morning. it's every so often that you two wake up at the same time, he wakes up excruciatingly early, while you are normal. though on days where he doesn't have to be up the same time the rooster crows, you are in for a sight.
you just never expected your life with him to be like this. meeting him first as a large, hunkered down, and emotionally constipated man to being so delicate and warm in the more intimate slices of normalcy that you have the privilege of sharing with him.
every line, every detail about him with you just feels so much softer. eyelashes fluttering as he wakes up, lips puffed out from snoring, and natural curls frayed from shifting in his sleep. beautiful. just beautiful.
don't even get me started on his morning voice. for someone that could command a whole battalion if he wanted to, he sounded so gentle. small rasps and utterances of good morning and i love you that squeeze your heart so tight that it could burst.
sometimes he's too lazy to dress up properly when he gets home from a long day of work, he'll slip on a pair of sweatpants and call it a night. you don't mind though, he's even clingier in the morning. immediately moving towards you when he notices that you've drifted a little too far from him for his liking during your sleep, the skin on skin causes you to shiver every time.
he always knows how to make you feel safe, protected, and loved.

This blurb was written as a part of the "Zara's Birthday Bash and Road to 1K" celebration.
Zara's Birthday Bash and Road to 1K Masterlist / Criminal Minds Masterlist
"It wasn't his fault."
Your voice cut through the silence as an unforeseen rapier. Every pair of eyes in the station fell on you in instinct. You despised the attention with every fiber of your being, but in that moment, there was nothing you wouldn't do to save Derek from being appointed as the fall guy, including offering yourself up as a temporary human spectacle as you stepped forward to where the three men were huddled up.
"Agent (Y/L/N)," Hotch warned in his familiar commanding lull.
"Sweet girl," Derek's voice came a little quieter, "what are you doing?"
You ignored your two fellow teammates as you faced the tall man between them. "I'm sorry, Sheriff. We never intended to overstep your authority. We didn't know the witness was one of our UnSubs when we visited his house. Agent Morgan was only acting in favor of my safety, so really, if there's anyone you should be mad at, it should be me."
The sheriff assessed you with rancorous eyes before turning back towards Hotch. "Get your team under control, Agent. Remember that y'all are a guest here."
With that last message, the sheriff walked away and disappeared into his office. Hotch turned to you and Derek following the sheriff's departure. "We'll talk about this later."
Once Hotch was out of earshot, Derek pulled you towards him. The rest of the station had already returned towards their previous tasks, safe for several pairs of eyes belonging to your other team members who seemed too eager to catch a snippet of your conversation with Derek. Before you could reprimand them, Derek's voice suddenly erupted, "What the hell are you doing?"
You turned your head and frowned. "What?"
"Why did you say all of that stuff to the sheriff, sweetheart?"
"Because it's the truth? You did make that call because you were protecting me, right?"
"I did, but you still didn't need to do any of that. I can take care of it myself."
"Derek—" you sighed, plopping your hand right on top of his shoulder, "—I know you can take care of pretty much everything by yourself, but I don't want you cleaning up my mess just for the sake of our relationship. Let me handle it on my own, okay?"
A hot remark was ready on the tip of Derek's tongue, but the words were soon forgotten when he heard the single word that cut off the circulation completely from his brain. Dumbfoundedly, he stared at you as he said, "Relationship?"
"Well, yeah." You smiled, dragging your hand upward from his shoulder until you were cupping his cheek. "You're my best friend, Derek."
Just as fast as you had flown him to the clouds, you sent Derek plummeting straight towards the ground where he imploded into pieces. The man could barely register the feeling of your lips on his other cheek before he watched you stride away, leaving him standing in the middle of the station like a deer caught in headlights.
"You're my best friend, Derek," Emily teased from where she was standing a few feet away. Behind her, JJ and Spencer were laughing along. "Seriously, why don't you two just make it official already?"
Derek flipped the three of them off, earning another series of laughter from his coworkers before he walked off towards the direction of the pantry. In the back of his head, Emily's question lingered like a shallow wind.
Seriously, why don't you two just make it official already?
Maybe because Derek thought you were official.
But apparently, according to you, you weren't.
So what the hell did that kiss that the two of you shared at the end of your last movie night even mean?
For the rest of the team's stay in Pasco, Florida, the ambiguous status of your relationship became a permanent fixture in Derek's mind. It haunted him even after he boarded the BAU's jet, preparing for the flight back home towards Quantico, Virginia. He was too lost in his own world that he didn't realize you had been calling out his name until your hand touched his cheek.
"Hey, you okay?" you asked worriedly.
Derek was sitting on the long sofa at the end of the cabin; and you, as always, were lying on the same sofa with your head resting on his lap. He still remembered the first time the two of you assumed this habit on the jet, receiving cheeky glances and playful jabs from the rest of the team in the aftermath. The teasing had dwindled significantly by now. Everyone was so used to the sight that it didn't warrant a surprised reaction anymore.
Derek, on the other hand, didn't think he could get accustomed to this.
As he stared down towards your inquisitive eyes, Derek realized that the sight of your face still took his breath away as much as it did the first time he laid eyes upon you. He brought down a finger and ran them up and down your cheek, his heart inflating when you rewarded him with a gleaming smile.
"Wanna come over tonight? We didn't finish that movie last week," you offered.
At the mention of your last movie night, Derek's mind traveled back to the memory of your kiss. It was nothing grand, just a five-seconds heaven where Derek's tongue had tasted remnants of the wine you shared and a little something else that he was sure had uniquely belonged to you. He sealed it with another peck on your forehead after that, wishing you a good night rest and a fantastic dream as he left the comfort of your apartment.
Derek couldn't sleep that night. After all, that was the best kiss the man had ever had in his entire life; but it looked like you hadn't felt the same way as him about it at all.
This knowledge was a stake right through Derek's heart. Everything tasted bitter as he swallowed, and perhaps that was reason enough to why the next words tumbled out of his lips in a reply, "Sorry, sweet girl. I've got errands to run. Next time?"
Derek pretended not to see the way your face collapsed in disappointment at his answer.
Back at his own apartment, Derek proceeded to spend a whole hour flipping through TV channels until his hand was numb. Many of his nights lately were spent in your company, and as the surrounding solitude closed in on him, Derek realized that he didn't remember how to spend nights by himself anymore. He was absentmindedly changing the channel yet again when his finger suddenly stopped frozen on the remote.
Your favorite movie was showing on the TV screen.
Perhaps it was ludicrous to claim that seeing the movie he had always associated with you appear on his TV was a celestial omen, but Derek deemed it an enough sign for him to get his ass off the couch and drove all the way down to your apartment. He stood in front of your door not even twenty minutes later, having sped through traffic as if he were invincible to every threat on the roads. You opened the door for him on the third knock, your eyes blown so widely out of proportion when you spotted him standing on your doorway.
"Derek? What are you doing here?"
"Sweet girl, are you... have you been crying?"
"No."
"Don't lie to me." Derek took two steps forward, closing the front door behind him as he was finally standing inside your apartment. "What's going on, sweetheart?"
His question managed to break the last dam in your ribcage, sending you straight into another flood of uncontrollable tears. You leaped into Derek's arms out of the blue, cramming your face into his chest as your tears soaked the front part of his shirt.
"I'm sorry, Derek. I'm so sorry."
"Sorry? What are you sorry for, sweet girl?"
"T-The kiss. We shouldn't have done that. We shouldn't have k-kissed. It was a mistake."
Derek's stomach crashed squarely towards the ground. "A mistake?"
You nodded against his chest, pulling away to stare directly at Derek's face. Your eyes were red and puffy from hours of crying, and yet, Derek still thought you were the most heavenly creature he had ever seen in his entire life.
"That's w-why you've been acting strange, right? The kiss? Y-You're mad at me because of the kiss?"
"Wait. What—"
"I-I didn't... fuck—I didn't mean for everything to come to this. I never meant t-to make you run from me like this. I'm so, so sorry."
"Sweetheart—"
"I can pretend! Please, I can pretend like it never happened. T-That's what you want, r-right? I can forget about the kiss as long as—"
You didn't have the chance to finish your sentence.
Not when Derek suddenly pressed his lips against yours, seizing the words and the breath thoroughly out of your throat.
Butterflies erupted in the pit of your stomach. Nothing else mattered in the world except for Derek's hands on your skin and the way his tongue danced with yours as he deepened the kiss even further. You could've spent the rest of eternity kissing him like this if it weren't for the need to come up for air. That was the singular reason why you even agreed to pull away at last, albeit reluctantly.
"Derek?" Your voice was thin and fragile amidst the quietude of your home. "I don't understand... I thought—"
"No, sweetheart," Derek cut you off, leaving a quick peck on your lips because he couldn't help himself. "Remember in Florida when you called me your best friend? I thought that was your way of telling me you regretted the kiss."
"What? So... you weren't mad at me?"
"No, of course not." He scoffed incredulously. "How could I ever be mad at you?"
"I just thought—"
"Hey, look at me." Derek tilted your face by the chin until you were looking directly into his eyes. "I'm yours, (Y/N). Do you understand?"
"Yes," you whispered. "I'm yours, too, Derek. Forever."
Derek spent the night at your home afterward. Although it wasn't the first time he stayed over, something about it felt fresh and brand new as he lay on your bed as officially yours while you lay next to him as officially his. He nuzzled your body flush against him, entangling every inch of your limbs with his own as he listened to the steady intakes and outtakes of your breathing.
"I love you, sweetheart," Derek murmured against your hair, playing with the end of the strands as he heard you let out another tired sigh. "You know that, right?"
"Hmm? I love you, too," you mumbled blearily, burrowing yourself deeper into his warmth before sleep finally took over your whole being.
Safe to say, you had the best sleep that night than you ever did in your entire lifetime.

is it hard being the sibling of a prohero?
of course! they disappear for days to weeks at a time—leaving for training, meetings, press events, and then for missions. you go from having them all to yourself, to sharing them with the world. from being their number one fan, to merely feeling like one amongst a million. and there’s so many things to worry about, from them going to work and never coming home, to a villain coming after you out of spite of being captured by said sibling.
those all sound logical answers to the question, normal ones. hence why you’ve practiced saying them so many times in case anyone ever asks.
but, truly, you knew most of those were things you’d never have to worry about. not when you’re the younger sister of none other than bakugou katsuki.
your brother being, well.. himself, was enough to keep any thoughts of danger from your mind. he was too fast, too strong, too skilled, too protective for anything to ever happen to either of you. but this peace of mind only gives room for you to dwell on other things.
like the social media ‘famous’ girls who just don’t shut up about how hot your brother is—which shouldn’t bother you so much, not in the stomach churning, phone gripping way that it does. and you could blame your intense reactions on the fact that you have to see it literally every time you try to scroll down your timeline, or that it’s just weird that your brother is suddenly getting so much attention.. but that's less believable than the first excuse to you.
and then there’s the out of context candids posted in tabloids of him saving civilians, who understandably look at him so longingly, and then there’s a picture painted of him as some kind of bachelor. to make matters worse, said online articles become almost impossible to escape no matter how much you try—partially thanks to your old school ‘friends’ sending them to you asking for all the details to share with their group chats, as if you’d tell them.
to top everything off, your brother, as doting as he is, never has time for you anymore. despite how you live with him, have your own room and bath in his unnecessarily large condo, and even have a card to his bank account for anything you could possibly need—still, you rarely see him. he’s so consumed in his work, from partols to missions, and when he’s not on the clock he’s forced to do press and modeling for whatever goodies they want to slap his picture onto.
and you could never hold that against him, not when he’s been working towards this his whole life. but still, having just a moment with him could cure all the thoughts that hang heavy in your mind daily. just a second to be reminded that your brother is yours, all alone. that you’re the only little sister he’ll ever have, the only girl he’ll ever need.
luckily for you, a day comes that your brother gets a day's break—more like he’s forced into a vacation as he never takes any days off. and he’s able to lounge about, meaning that he’s sitting on the couch in sweats and bouncing his leg waiting for someone to call his phone saying he can finally come to work as if being away from it was excruciating. you could giggle at the thought, what person besides katsuki would rather be out fighting petty criminals than relaxing on their own couch.
“did you hear me?” he questions, eyebrows furrowed slightly as he looks over at you.
you shake your head, too caught up in your thoughts to realize he was even speaking to you.
“the guys want me to go over for a bit. i won’t be gone long.” he repeats before turning back to his phone screen as he finishes typing.
your heart jumps into your throat. tonight was exactly what you’d been longing for, time with just the two of you, so you could reassure yourself the importance of the role you have in his life. so that you could have katsuki all to yourself. so that you could pretend for just a little while, that he’s just your brother again, not the hero you have to share with the world.
“i wanna go too.” you spit without thought.
he shoots you another look, lifting a brow as he blinks at you. “i want to come hang out too.” you say again as you chew at your lip, unable to back out of the situation your loud mouth has already gotten you into.
“no.” he replies back coldly, pushing himself from the couch before stretching his arms up, revealing the bottom of his toned stomach as he does so. “there’s going to be a lot of people, and drinking.” he looks at you out of the corner of his eyes before mumbling on. “and denki’s gonna be there.”
you snap your gaze up to him in confusion about the mention of a certain friend of his. but, he doesn’t let you get any questions out, heading off towards his room to get ready to leave. you pad right behind him, arms crossed while you walk, letting out huffs every few minutes just to remind him how you’re not going to give up. you sit on his bed as he collects an outfit to wear and little things he needs for a shower, noticing how he avoids making any glances in your direction.
it’s not until he’s already fully showered and starting to dress himself that he cracks, groaning as he looks at you.
“go fuckin’ get dressed.” he orders with out any actual malice in his tone. “once i get in the car, i’m leaving.”
your brother is many things, but a liar is not one.
so, you race to your room, tearing into your dresser to slip into that one outfit you’d been holding onto, hoping to wear the next time you’d gotten the chance to go on an outing with katsuki. though, you’d pictured something with more room for alone time, you suppose it would work at a party with his old friends too.
you’d just finished touching up what you need in the mirror as you hear his car engine start up, giving you only seconds to force yourself into your shoes and jog out to his car.
“you stay by my side until we leave.” he looks over at you, while you reach over your shoulder for the seatbelt, his crimson eyes squinted warningly. “i mean it.”
he didn’t mean it.
it’s not even half an hour after you arrive, barely finished shoving your way through the sweaty bodies crowded in someone’s living space, hardly enough time enough to adjust your ears to the shitty music and screams of laughter—something catches your brother's eye, to which he leaves you in the hands of his old classmate. ‘be back in a minute’, he says, pushing you into the red head’s side. but it’s not a minute, it’s been thirty and you haven’t managed to spot the blonde mess of a head, not even from your seat on the kitchen’s counter over the crowd merely feet away.
“what’s wrong?” kirishima raises his eyebrows slightly at you from behind his solo cup.
“just expected to be with kats’,” you huff, fingers twiddling with the end of your skirt. “kinda the only reason i came.”
he nods, glancing down into his drink before peering over his shoulder.
“want a sip?”
you know that you shouldn’t, how mad your brother will get at the both of you if he shows up to find you wasted and slung over his best friend.
“it’ll help you relax, at least until he gets back. i won’t let you drink too much, i promise.”
you can’t resist the small smile he gives. he’s so warm, safe. being with him is almost the same as being with katsuki, almost.
one sip turns into two cups, and suddenly it’s not just you and eijiro anymore. sero and denki showed up somewhere along the way. but, it’s fine, you think. they’re heroes alongside your brother, and they’ve known him long enough to know any better. only, in your slurred thoughts, that voice in the back of your mind starts to hope otherwise.
they’re all undoubtedly handsome, the three of them much taller than you despite the height difference amongst themselves, and all so strong. there’s sero with his shaggy black hair, signature grin and pretty ring clad fingers that grip the cup he’d been babysitting since he’d walked over. denki and his pretty pink lips he never stops running his tongue over, his slightly whiney voice and golden eyes that just get so much deeper when he looks at you. and then of course, kirishima, who’s just so unreasonably big, length and width—wait, that's… not the right words. but now you wonder—
“what are you smiling about?” the blonde asks from where he’s propped on the kitchen’s island across from you.
you shake your head, biting your lips when you realize how caught up in your thoughts you let yourself get with them still right in front of you.
“i was just thinking.” you let out, trying to look anywhere but at kirishima.
“thinking about?” the voice pipes in from beside you, resting his head on your arm as he leans back to look up at you. your heart races a bit when you can physically feel how close he’s gotten to you without you realizing.
“yeah, you’ve been so quiet. not really living up to the bakugou name.” sero shakes his head with fake disapproval.
“my brother’s not that loud.” you giggle, knowing it's a lie before it even hits your tongue. “i was just thinking about how i never see you guys, you’re so different than you were when i met you back at the graduation.” you sigh. “he never lets me go out with him when you guys invite him.”
you miss the look that hanta and kaminari share, how the corners of the blonde's mouth perk up for a split second before he paints on a confused expression.
“when do we invite him out?” he asks, tilting his head slightly when you look up at him.
you nearly mimic the movement when you register his words.
“always?..” you ask, but glancing at the dark haired man and the red head who share the same confused expression, you don't need an answer. “but he… i’m so confused.”
you can only blink, staring at the black side of the fridge, thinking back on the rare nights that he gets off with enough time to do anything besides shower and sleep. how he’d knock on your door, letting you know he was running over to one of ‘the guys’ house before it got too late. he was never gone too terribly long, but that’s just how your brother is. you always thought he literally only went to say hi and came home—wanting to get enough sleep for another full day of hero work. that’s the only thing that made any sense.
“hey, don’t worry about it.” kirishima’s large hand has somehow found its way to rub soothingly at your side, arm now wrapped behind your back.
“i’m sure he could’ve meant midoriya or something.” denki still wears a straight face, speaking with faulty concern.
sero stays quiet while he pulls out his phone, scrolling through something and finally starting to sip out of his cup.
“i should go try to find him.” you go to slide off the counter when denki speaks up again.
“i think you should stay with us.”
the words send a gut wrenching feeling to your core, your body screams to get away, but you fight it.
“why?” you dumbly ask, the smallest bit of curiosity keeping you.
“your brother’s busy.” he shrugs, bumping sero’s shoulder with his own.
the long fingers you were admiring minutes ago faint against yours as he hands you his phone, the screen showing a man you recognize unmistakingly as your brother, dressed in the outfit he’d worn tonight. his arm snug around some girl's lower back, ducked down with his mouth to her ear, the camera’s quality is shitty but even so, you can still see the way their bodies are pressed together. you feel your heart sink, though, you’re not entirely sure why.
you let yourself get slotted back into kirishima’s side, finding a sense of comfort in the weight of his arm around your shoulder as they walk you to the glass doors at the back of the house.
“don’t looked so bummed little baku’!” denki shoots you a grin. “we’ll keep you entertained for the night.”
the air is warm outside, not helping to cool your cheeks that are still hot from the alcohol. the four of you end up sitting on some cushioned benches near the middle of the yard, surrounded by small bushes. it’s much nicer than being inside, but you’re not entirely sure why they brought you out here. not until sero pulls out something rolled and a lighter. you watch as he puts it between his lips, lighting the end and inhaling til the end burns red without the flame. you forget to look away whenever he exhales, giving him the chance to catch you watching him.
“you want to hit it?” his voice suddenly sounds like silk, acting like ties as it’s doing everything to pull you in despite the way your nerves are still screaming at you.
“i’ve never smoked before.” you laugh awkwardly. “my brother would kill me.”
he flashes that big toothy grin, shaking his head for the who-knows-what time that night and you know you’re in for it whenever you see your brother again. but just for this second, you think it’ll be okay.. if he’s busy with some girl when he told you he’d be by your side for the night, then you can have fun with his cute friends.
“he doesn’t have to know.” sero pulls you back to the moment in front of you. “come here, i’ll teach you.”
you’re moving without thinking, giggling again at the way he shoo’s denki from beside him so that you can sit. he teaches you how to breathe it in easily, but how not to take too much. and you do exactly as he says, letting him put it on your lips, you pull in a slow but shallow drag. holding it until he tells you to let it out.
“good girl.” hanta smirks, the warmth of his hand holding your jaw as he moves the damp paper back to your mouth. “now do it again, just like that.”
you listen, thinking nothing of it. thinking nothing at all, actually. you can’t. the flood of warmth lingering in your veins from those drinks that you’re just realising were much stronger than you thought and the clouds now fogging your consciousness, too much to form any kind of thought.
“here, try this.” you hear from the side- no, in front of you. denki’s leaned over with a diamond shaped candy on his palm.
you hesitate, but not able to talk, body already working overtime to remember how to breathe properly.
“it’ll just make you feel good, i just took one too.” he reassures, gesturing again for you to grab it. if you could feel your body right now, you’d feel every single inch of it aching to run. you’d feel that same feeling in your stomach as it started to churn. maybe you would’ve listened this time. but instead all you can feel is the race in your chest as you eye the light blue against his pale skin.
“c’mon.” kirishima’s showing off his sharp teeth with how wide he’s grinning, trying his hardest to be just as reassuring as he was to get you to drink with him a while ago. “we’re your brother's best friends, you know we wouldn’t let anything happen to you.. even if he is busy.
you take another deep breath, nodding. right. katsuki wouldn’t let anything happen to you.
“let me.” denki’s suddenly standing over you, candy- pill pinched between his fingers, a grin just as big plastered on his face. “open up.”
you miss the devilish intent hiding behind those smiling faces. you miss the almost telepathic conversation they all have in the glances they share as you flutter your pretty eyes closed, letting your tongue fall out for denki to drop the pill on. it hits your taste, dissolving almost immediately. you swallow the bitter grainy bits, grimacing as you only have your spit to get it down with.
“give it just a few minutes.” the blonde speaks again, much more eagerly this time. which should alert you, all of this should.
you could blame it on the alcohol you have a low tolerance for, on the weed you’ve never smoked, on the fact you trust anyone who attaches their name to your brothers. but really, it’s because you’re dumb. you don’t think anything bad can ever happen to you. not like this. not when your brother is so close.
“it’s kinda warm out here.” you mumble, shifting uncomfortably on the padding. you feel the heat across your cheeks and down your neck, skipping to your stomach that warms slowly, trickling down between your legs and across your thighs. “think i want some water.”
you slowly push yourself to stand, body feeling heavy as you move. you don’t catch how they all follow right behind you, until sero—no, denki’s arm slinks its way around your waist as you walk. he pulls you away from the path back to the glass door and towards the gate in the big wooden fence.
“it’s too hot in there.” he tugs you again when you weakly attempt to pull away. “kirishima’s place isn’t too far from here. we can just hang out there while you cool off.”
you shake your head, mind racing to how badly you just want something to drink, and to be with katsuki. mentally cursing out the stupid girl in that picture for taking your brother away from you, for stealing his attention when you’re the one who needs it. and you curse yourself, for not listening to his warning when he said denki would be here.
“denki.” you drag your feet, doing anything to attempt a fight against the push of his much stronger hands. “what was that? the…” it’s hard to think, even harder to push those thoughts into words and say them aloud “the pill. what’d you give me?”
“i told you,” he smirks, glancing behind you and nodding one of the men over. “it’s just to make everything feel better.” stepping aside, kirishima’s heavy arm replaces denki’s, locking you under it and forcing you forward. your heart races at all the implications that could have. you don’t even notice you’re shaking until he wraps his other arm around you, bending his head down to graze the shell of your ear, whispering into it
“it’ll make things easier,” something about his tone makes you want to vomit. “just don’t think about it, pretty.”
“don’t get too friendly, dude, i’m the one who set this up.” denki bites, pulling his keys out as the four of you near a car. “there’s no way you get first.”
sero snickers again, sighing as kiri opens his mouth to snide back about how he’s been waiting two years and that you should at least get to pick that much. you can’t really make it out anymore, all you can hear is your own heartbeat banging in your ears.
you try and struggle out of his hold, which only makes them all laugh in turn and your heart falls into your stomach. you’re with pro heroes, if anything bad is going to happen to you here, at their hands, there's no way you’re going to fight your way out of it.
sero’s fingers wrap around the handle of the car’s back door when the voice booms out your name down the small hill the house is sitting on.
you can physically feel kirishima tense up and his heart start to race, you can hear the way sero and denki stop breathing in unison. you can even picture the way they all freeze without having to look, you can imagine the absolute fear in their face as they stand there, gaping at your brother.
his red eyes dig into you before taking a second to glance at the men around you.
“why do you look so fucked up?” he barks out, brows furrowing deeper with each step he takes towards you. “where the fuck were you guys about to go?”
he’s eyeing kirishima now, tugging you by your wrist out of the red head’s hold and into his own, gripping you as if he lets go, you'll get stolen away.
“she said it was hot in there.” kirishima shrugs awkwardly, face stiff.
“and who the fuck said you could take her anywhere?” bakugou tilts his head face twisted dumbfoundedly at the boldness his old friend suddenly seems to have.
“my place is just up the street she wanted to—“
“and why the fuck do you have her around denki?” you can feel bakugou’s skin grow hotter to the touch with each word he spits. or maybe it's you that’s getting hotter. god, it’s fucking hot.
“i didn’t drive.” he shrugs again, breaking eye contact to look over at the other blonde.
“she’s not a baby bakugou, she can be around whoever she wants.” kaminiari says smugly, like the idiot he is.
“i’ll kill you.” your brother doesn’t hesitate with this threat, and it wipes the smile off denki’s, raising his hands slightly in defence.
you use the hold he has on you to wrap your arm around his, feeling a great sense of relief pressed against him.
“he didn’t touch you did he?” katsuki’s voice is still gruff when he talks down to you, but you don’t mind it.
you know that he did technically touch you, but not enough to hurt anything. and if you answer truthfully it’ll just drag this out even longer, and all you want is to be wrapped around him. so, you shake your head, and you hope he doesn’t hear the way they all sigh in relief.
your brother doesn’t say anything else, just pulls you away towards where he’d parked. the second he turns around, you peek back at the men. kirishima has his head tossed back, hand over his chest as he takes in a deep breath, sero, leaned against the car shoulders shaking with laughter while denki curses and slams the driver side door shut.
“i’m hot katsu’” you whine when he unlocks the door for you.
“how much did he let you drink?” he scoffs, leaning across you and buckling your seatbelt for you as if you’re unable.
you huff, watching his strong arms reach over your body. his warm chest coming down to press into yours, that you find is so sensitive. so much so that a small whine escapes your throat before you’re able to register it he’s already pulled back looking down at you. one hand on the top of the car as he leans over, eyebrows pinched together.
“‘m just hot, bubba.” you assure, face burning in embarrassment and whatever else was setting your body on fire.
he immediately blasts the AC as soon as the car is on, and in the second that it satiates the burning under your skin, you remember.
“who was the girl?” you question, voice somewhere between shaking and slurring. you shouldn’t be asking, there’s no reason for you to do this right now—or at all. “the one you left me to go see.”
katsuki just stares ahead for a second before his jaw tightens.
“and where did you see me with a girl?” he asks blankly, like he already knows the answer.
“sero had a picture. they said you were busy, that’s why i stayed with them.” you answer truthfully, hoping he’d driven far enough to not want to turn back.
“i didn’t know her, sero at introduced us.” he scoffs, scowl resting on his face as he keeps his eyes focused on the drive.
the heat begins to dig into you again, the cool blow the ac’s aid only a temporary fix.
“why? why didn’t you come look for me? text me?” he asks, his short fuse burning already.
“you were busy.” you reply shortly, too focused on the ache going on in your lower half.
“and? if i knew that shit face was going to try fucking with you we would’ve left as soon as we got there.” he shakes his head, voice raising only slightly.
“you were with a girl, katsu! i didn’t want to interrupt.” you throw your head back against the cool leather, smoothing your hands out over your skirt, across the tops of your thighs as if that would help.
“you’re my little sister, that’s completely different.” he scrunches his face up as he glances between you and the road, the same thing he does anytime anyone says something he thinks is the slightest bit dumb.
“is it?” you ask.
“yes.” he snaps back.
“so if i wasn’t your little sister, you wouldn’t care?” you mumble, shifting at the warmth you feel start to spill into your panties. “or if i wouldn’t have come with you tonight, would you have left with her?”
he sighs, exasperated.
“what the fuck are you saying right now?” he keeps glancing at you, rushing a reply.
“why did you leave me to go see her?” you groan. “why didn’t you stay with me? why didn’t you wanna just be at home with me?”
he only gets your name and a curse out before you cut him off, the heat itching at you becoming too much.
“katsu’ ‘m so hot.” you mewl, raking your hands down your body, reveling in the momentary coolness under your own touch. you can feel the way he stiffens slightly next to you, but the previous tension is out the window, almost forgotten.
“i have the ac on.” he states, keeping his eyes on the road as you near the building the two of you call home.
“it’s inside katsu, ‘m hot on the inside.”
he stops the car with a jerk in the middle of the parking lot, snapping his head over towards you.
“what did they give you?” his question is sharp, voice filled with anger once again.
“denki gave me candy—no, a pill.” you toss your head side to side, thighs rubbing together mindlessly. “to make me ‘feel good’—make everything, no—something feel good that’s what they said, but i just hurt.”
you can hear death threats spill out his mouth as he watches you squirm in the seat.
“i’ll take you to the hospital.” he mutters, putting a hand on the shoulder of your seat to look behind him as starts to back out.
“no!” you whine, grabbing his hand and pulling it to your lap. “i don’t want doctors touching me.”
he keeps his eyes on you as you put his palm against your inner thigh, watching how you keen against the seat when his skin touches yours.
“want you to help me, bubba, please.” he pulls his hand from you, face contorted with.. something before he’s rubbing his palms over his face and pulling at his hair. you realize what you just asked and for the umpteenth time tonight, your heart sinks. but this time you're sure that if you stood, it’d be sitting on the seat underneath you.
“i’m—katsuki, i’m sorry.” you start to babble out apology after apology, which soon all runs together and becomes broken as you tear up, voice cracking every other word.
the blond throws his head back, hard. quickly changing gear and moving his car into a private parking spot. you’re still crying when he pulls your wrist, strength easily shifting you over the middle console of his car and into his lap.
“tell me that you need my help.” he blinks up at you, holding your waist just above his lap.
you nod, hoping it’ll suffice, but it doesn’t.
“i need you to help me, katsu—no one else can.” he drops you onto his lap, fingertips digging into the softness of your sides. “please, make it better.” you breathe, shakily.
he uses his hold to drag you across his lap, the friction making you drop your head onto his shoulder. pleasure shooting up your spine, small whines of his name getting lost in his neck as he keeps grinding you down onto him until your thighs start to shake, your moans turn into breathless whines and you’re crumbling against him as you make a mess all over his jeans…
the two of you sit in panting silence for a few minutes before he tells you to move, that you need a shower. and like you always do, you listen. following him inside and discarding your clothes from your still buzzing body in silence. but as soon as the showers water hits you, you’re burning again. the ache between your legs coming back stronger than before, the burn in your stomach twice as hot and the need is too much.
you don’t hesitate to make your way right back to his room, body still nude and dripping all over the floors as you do. but you don’t care—your brain and body only knows one thing right now and it’s that you need your brother.
“what are you doing?” he strains, turning his head back towards the drawer he was sorting through as soon as he takes in your naked body standing at his doorway.
“i still hurt, katsu.” you whisper, not caring if he heard you or not. just wanting him to give you more than what he gave earlier.
“i already helped.” you can hear pain in his voice and it makes you want to cry. you wish you didn’t put him in such a position, that you would’ve just been grateful and stayed home—but you need him, it’s all your mind and body can tell you, you need him.
“help again.” you practically demand, craving him too badly to be embarrassed or think much at all about what you were doing. your hands land on his shoulders and pull yourself up to kiss at his neck trying to entice him.
“i can’t.” he groans low, but doesn’t attempt to push you away, letting you drag your lips across all the skin you can reach.
you don’t say anything else, not until you manage to pull him down by his hair to look at you.
“make it better.. like you always do.”
it’s the pebble that cracks the glass, his hands grip your waist and all but throw you onto his mattress. you only have a moment to gasp before he’s hovering over you.
“say it again.” he commands, voice rough as one of his hands makes its way to the apex of your thighs. your eyes flutter at the vibration of his words against your chest, the knot in your stomach already tying itself.
“make me feel better, bubba, please.”
there was a reason behind why he’s left the condo the few times that he does get to sit in the house, a reason why he doesn’t want to be alone with you for too long. it’s not that he doesn’t have any restraint, but he’s known thatif something ever happened, where the little sister that has always been the exception his selfish attitude asked him to do anything like this—even without whatever the fuck it was that denki gave you—he’d do it.
he drags a heavy finger along your slit, up to your still swollen clit making you gasp against his lips as they ghost your own. he teases only for a second, not able to bare you being in pain when he’s there to do something about it, just like he’s always been. he uses your excessive slick to rub harsh circles over your clit, it sends your eyes rolling back, it’s so much more practiced than the pathetic frottage he pulled in the car.
“need more, katsu, please.” you push your hips into his hand with the little bit of strength you have, desperate for as much as he’ll give you.
he drops his forehead to your shoulder this time, looking down as he moves his fingertips to your entrance, pushing two in without warning. he immediately works away with them, curling into your swollen, most sensitive wall and fucking into you with a strength that could only be possessed by such a high ranking pro hero. your wetness sticks to his knuckles with every pull before it squelches obscenely loud when he pushes back in.
“kiss me, katsu.” you whine.
he brings his lips back to yours, red eyes flickering between both of your eyes for a moment, waiting for you to take it back. you don’t, instead, sliding your hands from where they sat on his shoulders up to twist into his hair.
“you can pretend ‘m someone else… just please kiss me.” his fingers pause their movement for a moment, and he pulls away. you start to whine, from the loss and out of fear you’d said something wrong again.
“why would you say that?” you trip over any word that hits your tongue. but you don’t need to speak, he does it for you. “i don’t need to do that,” his fingers pick their pace back up, drawing wonton moans from you that you wouldn’t be able to bite back if you tried. “not when i’ve always pretended everyone else was you.” he admits.
your heart leaps in your chest just as he presses his mouth into yours, the kiss is littered with teeth and spit—but neither of you can find a reason to care.
the familiar feeling starts to coil in your stomach, your hips moving on their own down on his hand to chase the feeling of ecstasy but it never comes, you cry out as the pressure fades.
“more.” you cry softly against his lips, keeping your eyes screwed shut so you don’t have to face any look that he might give you. “‘need you.”
but, he complies, tugging himself out of the sweats he’d thrown on after his shower and kicking them off to be dealt with later. he doesn’t waste any time teasing, rushing to give you what you want—what you need, to make his pretty little sister feel good the way he’s been cursing his brain for imaging for the longest time.
he lines the thick head of him up with your already stretched hole, dropping back down to your lips as he eases in. the pop of the head of him pulls a gasp from the both of you, but he doesn’t give you time to adjust to it, knowing with how you’ve been aching to be filled all night that you can handle the stretch. which is exactly what he gives you, his fingers were nothing in comparison to the girth of his cock.
it stings, making your eyes tear up, and drags whine after whine from your throat. katsuki catches them in his mouth, swallowing them and shushing you while he continues to push in until he’s at the hilt. you babble out senseless ‘thank you’s while he pulls back slightly, never separating your hips and his own by too much. his hips make a circular motion, grinding back into you slowly, pushing the trimmed light colored pubes at the base of him against your ever throbbing clit and making you squeal from the pleasure of it.
he repeats it over and over, curved length of him dragging along your g-spot until youre twitching, your mouth hangs open, sounds falling against his lips as he drinks all of them in. your hips rise every few strokes trying to meet him, to egg him on to go harder, to give you more without having to ask for it, but he just wont. keeping his slow, sensual pace, as if he was fucking you at his own leisure and not because you basically forced yourself onto him
“love you, bubba.” you whisper drunkenly, lips dragging across his soft ones as you speak.
his hips stutter at your words, strong arms move from holding himself over you to grabbing the underside of your knees and pulling them slightly, wrapping your legs around him. “ah- my katsu.”
“keep telling me.” he grunts, sliding his hand down to your waist where your thighs fold over them. “tell me i’m yours, say that you’re mine.”
he finally picks up his antagonizing pace, hips still swirling into yours, pubic hair scratching against your bud with each push. the head of him presses deep against that spongey spot with each sway, heavy balls sticking to your leaked juices as you chant out the i love you’s like a mantra, like it’s the only meaningful thing that you’ve ever said. it’s not long before your legs start to shake, his cock hitting all of the right nerves in your throbbing cunt.
“don’t stop.” he repeats when your mouth drops wide open, orgasm creeping up on you.
“mine! you’re mine!” you cry as your vision turns white and your walls spasm around him. “‘m yours, all yours, bubba.” you whimper as the ache in your cunt becomes the pain of overstimulation.
your words and the steady throb of your clamping cunt ultimately bringing him to his end with you. you feel the heat simmer down as he fills you, warmth spilling out even as his cock still plugs you. and you couldn’t be more thankful for denki being such a scumbag.
you don’t have enough strength to stay awake past that, all of your energy left with the last orgasm. at some point you wake up, you’re clean between your thighs and cuddled up on your brother's warm chest. you shift only an inch and you could feel him jump awake to pull you closer, leaving a kiss on the top of your head before you drift back to sleep with small smiles on both of your faces—happy to be your brother’s girl.

Masterlist | Ko-Fi
As Boston came into view from the window of the plane, your anxiety began to skyrocket. Exam week flew by, and now it was finally fall break. You had spent half a day scrambling around the house trying to pack while planning when to call a taxi so that you wouldn’t miss your flight. Putting the stress aside, you had made it in time and found yourself trying to ease your mind with a stupid romance book on the flight. You weren’t huge on reading romance, but it was mindless and passed the time as you soared over the states.
Joel never reached out after he sent himself your number. You didn’t reach out either, which took a lot of self-restraint. You commended him for having just as much restraint because you were sure he’d cave and call you at some point. But the silence was blaring loud, and maybe he only wanted your number ‘just in case.’ You wouldn’t get your hopes up anymore.
You were coming down the escalator when your mom and two sisters came into view. Stella, your youngest sister, was the first to run and wrap you up in a big hug. Her black hair was chopped shorter than before, and she had a bright smile plastered on her face.
“Sis!” She squealed, squeezing your shoulders.
“Hi, Stell,” you laughed, hugging her tight.
“Look who’s home at last,” Beth said, her arms crossed over her chest as she watched Stella swing you back and forth.
Beth was younger than you by two years, while Stella was newly eighteen and still full of life. You and Beth hadn’t been very close since you left Boston, the bitterness of your absence still lingering between you both.
“Hey, Beth,” you sighed, opening your arms to invite her into a hug.
She was hesitant at first but finally caved and hugged you back. It was brief, but you’d settle for it. Your mom was the next in line to hug you, her voice shaky as she welcomed you home.
“Don’t cry, Mom,” you laughed, pulling away.
“I’m just happy you’re finally home. We missed you a lot.”
She took your luggage and guided you through the airport down to the parking garage. Stella lingered close, wanting to hear about your life in Austin and how teaching was going. Beth, on the other hand, hung back and kept quiet. You knew things would implode at some point during the week, but until then, you’d just have to acknowledge the ticking time bomb in the background.
“Where’s dad?” You asked your mom, climbing into the front seat.
“He’s home grilling up some steaks for dinner. He hasn’t stopped talking about you coming home since you booked the flight. He’s missed you the most,” she sighed.
“I missed him too,” you muttered.
It wasn’t lost on you that leaving had caused a gaping hole in your relationship with your entire family. Even if they weren’t the biggest fans of Bennett, they continued to support you through your decisions to move with him and uproot your life. After he left, they begged you to come home, but you knew staying in Austin was what felt right. You had a job and a home; leaving was admitting defeat. You wouldn’t let him strip away the life you had made; you wouldn’t let yourself be a failure.
The city blurred by as you neared your childhood home. You kept your eyes closed when you passed down the roads Bennett had once driven you, hoping you could force the memories away. But they still lingered. The past always seemed to linger. Stella and Beth chatted quietly in the backseat, leaving you in silence as the house appeared. Nothing had changed: the white brick chipping around the edges, the hedges in the front yard overgrown and unruly. You expected to feel at home, seeing the house again, but it didn’t feel like it once had.
As you unpacked the trunk and hauled your luggage inside, you heard your dad’s voice floating from the back deck.
“Is that my girl?” He called out, walking through the sliding doors with his grilling tools in hand.
“It is,” you smiled, dropping your things at the door.
“Hey there, peanut,” he greeted, awkwardly hugging you as his hands were full.
“Hey, Dad,” you whispered.
“Missed you, kid. How was the flight?”
You trailed him out onto the deck, the smell of smoke mixing with the autumn breeze as it passed through the trees lining the backyard. You had missed seeing the seasons change, the yellowing of the leaves, and the crisp air that seemed to linger throughout the day. Nothing would beat the East Coast in the fall, even if you liked living in Texas now.
“The flight wasn’t bad,” you shrugged, sinking into a lawn chair as you watched him flip the steaks. “I don’t know why four hours in the air felt so long.”
“You know, you could avoid it if you moved back home,” he suggested.
“I like living in Austin,” you argued. “I have a good job, and I’m happy there.”
“I didn’t say you weren’t happy. All I’m saying is that you can always come home.”
You remember him saying the exact same thing after the wedding ceremony went to shit. Two days after the incident, your dad was consoling you on the couch, holding you as you cried and urging you to come home. You can always come home, peanut.
“I know I can, Dad. Can we please just drop it?”
Your dad chuckled and made a pact with you not to repeat it. You only hoped your mom and sisters would do the same.
Dinner passed under a heavy silence. No one knew how to speak to you without possibly mentioning Bennett… or ‘the incident’ as they liked to refer to it. You awkwardly made small talk between your parents and Stella while Beth sat and pushed her food around. You stole glances at her ever so often, trying to form a plan when you could talk to her. Out of everyone in the family, your absence hurt her the most. She had been the most vocal about your issues with Bennett, which was to your detriment since you had confided in her the most. She gave the harsh truths and tough love, going so far as to try and talk you out of the engagement. In your love-struck haze, you hadn’t listened to her and found yourself defending Bennett—defending your emotions. You wished you had listened to her.
“So,” your mom started. “Any new love interests?”
You gave her a pointed stare, stabbing the steak on your plate. This was the last thing you wanted: explaining yourself to them.
“No, Mom. There’s no one to speak of,” you huffed.
“C’mon mom,” Beth laughed, chiming in. “You know she’s still wallowing away in that big house all alone.”
“Beth,” your dad warned. At the same time, Stella whispered, “Beth, don’t.”
“No, it’s okay.” You smiled through your teeth, glaring at Beth, who sat back in her seat with a smug expression.
“You did this to yourself, you know?” Beth said, cocking an eyebrow.
“Did what?” You questioned.
“We all warned you about Bennett. You knew he was no good, yet you stayed. And look! He left you.”
Her words cut deep, deeper than you wanted to admit. You kept your expression stony, not feeding into her words.
“Beth, you need to stop right now,” your mom nearly growled. “You’re out of line.”
“Let her talk, Mom,” you said. “She needs to get it out.”
“Oh, I need to get it out?” Beth snapped. “You’re the one fucking sulking about Austin, pulling this whole ‘woe is me’ bullshit. The signs were all there! Get over yourself. It’s been two years, sis. Move on.”
“Just because we don’t talk doesn’t mean I haven’t moved on,” you exhaled. “I’m still healing from it all, and I’m sorry I’m not including you in that. I didn’t know you needed access to every part of my life.”
Beth slapped her hands on the table, rising to her feet to stare down at you over the plates of food. You shrunk back, trying to keep the tears at bay. She was going in for the final blow.
“You came to me for advice, and I gave it. You went ahead with the engagement and still ended up alone. He was never going to marry you. You’re a fucking mouse too afraid to defend yourself, and he knew you wouldn’t fight for him back. He’s probably glad he didn’t marry someone as stupid as you. You can’t see the warning signs even when they’re flashing in your face!”
That was it. That was the breaking point.
You tossed your napkin onto your plate and removed yourself from the table. You drowned out your parents' voices and Stella’s yelling for you to come back as you ran towards the door.
“Run!” Beth called from behind you. “Run like Bennett did!”
You barely made it out the front door before crumpling to the ground with tears streaming down your face. Staying with Bennett didn’t just hurt you; it hurt everyone. They wanted the best for you, and you didn’t see that until it was too late. Your relationship with Beth had been shattered because you had thrown all the blame on her. You blamed her for every traitorous thought you had about Bennett; you wanted to blame her for your doubts and unhappiness. But it wasn’t her. It was you. Everything was your fault—it always was.
Stella’s small voice saying your name roused you from your crying as she joined you on the porch. Wrapping her arms around your shoulders, she leaned into you and let you cry out every bottled-up emotion.
“I’m sorry, Stell,” you sobbed. “I’m sorry I didn’t listen to you guys. I’m sorry I left. I’m sorry I never came home.”
“Shhh,” she hushed. “No one is mad at you for staying in Austin. We understand why you stayed. Beth is just hurt. You shut everyone out, but you shut her out the most. She just misses you.”
“All I do is fuck everything up,” you muttered.
“No, stop that,” she argued, rubbing a hand over your back. “None of what happened is your fault. You deserved love, and he wasn’t the right one. You’ll find it again.”
“I stayed for too long. I should have left him long before the wedding. I was just hoping it would fix everything.”
“How were you to know?” She sighed. “Just because he was shitty doesn’t mean you can’t be sad. What he did was totally fucked up, and you didn’t deserve that.”
“Tell Beth that,” you laughed through a hiccup. “She thinks I deserved it.”
“She’s hurt. She doesn’t mean those things.”
“But she’s not wrong.”
Stella sighed, pulling away from you to level you with a sympathetic look.
“I think you guys need to talk it out. Maybe not right now, but when you’re ready,” she offered.
“You’re the young one,” you groaned. “You shouldn’t be consoling your older sister like this.”
“Hey, someone’s gotta be nice to you,” she smiled, quietly laughing.
“Thank you,” you whimpered.
You fell back into her arms and stared aimlessly at the trees blowing in the wind. After a few quiet moments, you finally pulled yourself together and shuffled out of her arms. Stella watched you wearily as you stood, brushing the dirt from your pants.
“I think I’m gonna go for a walk to clear my head,” you announced. “Tell Mom and Dad I'll come back in a few.”
“Are you sure?” She asked.
“I’ll be okay, Stell. I promise. Thank you again,” you sighed, kissing her head.
Dusk fell over the neighborhood as you wandered between the trees and houses. A few neighbors walked their dogs while their kids ran through the streets playing ball or riding their bikes. You never wanted to be out and interacting at home, but you didn’t mind it here. There was no risk. No one would stop you and inquire about your life like they would at home.
As you rounded down the next street, your phone started ringing in your back pocket. You whipped it out and saw the one name you had been waiting for the last week: Joel. Part of you didn’t want to answer; you weren’t in the right headspace. But you had waited to hear from him, and honestly, he was probably the only person to sway your mood for the better. Sucking in a breath, you answered.
“Hello?” You said, hoping your voice didn’t betray you.
“I got a bone to pick with you,” Joel huffed, clearly joking.
But after the events of dinner, his words felt like another punch to the gut.
“Why?” You asked nervously, pulling the phone away to sniffle back more tears.
“I finished Romeo and Juliet, and I—. Wait, are you alright? Why does it sound like you’ve been cryin’?”
You let out a sad laugh; of course, he’d see right through you. He always managed to do that.
“Because I have been,” you sighed. There was no point in lying to him when you knew he’d continue bugging you.
“What happened? Are you alright? Do y’need me to come get you from somewhere?” God, he sounded so sweet when he was worried.
“I’m fine, Mr. Miller. I’m not even in Austin right now, so you’re off the hook on that offer.”
“Where are you?” He pressed.
“Boston. I’m visiting family over the break,” you explained.
“You from there?”
“I am.”
“I didn’t take you as an East Coast type of girl, but it makes sense with how stubborn y’are,” he chuckled.
“Yep. That’s me.”
“Alright, I ain’t gonna let you get off the hook this easily. What’s goin’ on?”
You rounded back down another street, holding your phone tighter against your ear, hoping you’d catch every breath in the receiver. Hearing Joel’s voice was enough to soothe your heart after a terrible night.
“Really,” you insisted. “We don’t need to talk about it.”
“I reckon we do. I bet you’ll feel better after.”
“I reckon I won’t,” you mimicked his accent.
Joel let out a low chuckle, clearly amused by your response. It garnered a smile from you as you pictured his lips turned up on the corners, the bottom lip pushed out and pouty like they always were.
“My family isn’t happy with me for staying in Austin. They think I should have moved home a couple of years ago,” you explained. “I’ll spare you the bad parts, but I should have come home. It would’ve made it easier on everyone.”
“But would it’ve made it easier on you?” He asked.
You stopped walking and pinched the bridge of your nose to hold back the coming tears. Of course, he saw it from the latter. He wasn’t siding with your parents, but he didn’t know what you had done and endured to deserve their bitterness.
“Probably, but it doesn’t matter. Listen, you don’t have to worry about me. We can talk poetry instead,” you offered.
“If that’s what y’want, and for the record, I’m gonna worry about you.” You could hear his smile through the phone.
“You don’t need to, Mr. Miller.”
“Joel,” he sighed. “Y’know, you can say my name.”
“I know, it’s just—.”
“All formalities,” he finished. “I just wish you’d quit that because I think we’re far past it by now.”
“I’m trying to maintain some semblance of professionalism,” you laughed.
Your house was slowly coming into view again, and you felt the nerves creep back in. Eventually, you’d have to face them again, but right now, all you wanted to hear was Joel’s thick accent and husky voice.
“What’s so wrong about bein’ unprofessional?” He joked.
“A lot, Mr. Miller,” you sighed.
There was a brief pause on his end, and you bit your lip, wondering if he understood the meaning behind your words. You'd be completely vulnerable to him when you crossed the threshold between professional and unprofessional. Your restraint would melt away, and he’d win.
“Should I be callin’ you Miss Smith again?” He sounded serious. “I don’t wanna make you uncomfortable and all that.”
“No,” you said all too quickly. “Call me by my name. I—I like it.”
You fucking idiot.
Joel spoke your name in a lower voice, sending a shiver down your spine. Your steps back to the house slowed as you tried to control a strange urge rushing through your body. Was he teasing you? Was he actually doing that? You had to reel back in all the unprofessional thoughts swarming your head… especially the ones wondering how your name would sound when he was inside—. Stop that.
“What’re you doing?” You exhaled.
“Sayin’ your name,” he countered. “Y’said you liked it.”
“Yeah, I do.” You were beyond flustered and hot. “You’re—never mind. I should probably get inside and make peace with my family. Don’t think I forgot about Romeo and Juliet; I still want to hear your thoughts.”
“Call me tonight before you sleep,” Joel said. Oh, Christ. “I ain’t gonna remember the story if I wait any longer.”
“We could’ve talked about it earlier,” you chuckled. “You got sidetracked asking about me.”
“Is that a bad thing?”
You were at the edge of the front yard now, staring blankly at the porch light flickering against the nightfall blanketing the house. You couldn’t stay outside forever or on the phone with him forever—no matter how much you wanted to.
“I need to get back to my family,” you sidestepped. “I’ll call tonight, okay?”
“Promise?”
You smiled to yourself, gripping the phone tighter in your hand. Damn this man, and damn his charm.
“I promise, Mr. Miller. Goodbye.”
“Bye,” he whispered, your name falling off his tongue one last time.
You were so screwed. Completely and utterly screwed.
The house was quiet when you walked through the front door. Your mom and dad were lounging in the living room, flipping through channels, and Stella sat at the dining room table, working on her homework. Beth was nowhere to be found, which you figured would happen. Your mom glanced up from the couch with the same sympathetic expression Stella had given you earlier, and quite honestly, you were sick of it. You were sick of being pitied. You were sick of people being sad for you all the time. Yes, you were sad—all the time—but you wanted to be alone in your healing. You didn’t want to feel worse about it all from the people meant to support you. And you knew deep down they did support you, but it didn’t always feel that way.
You needed to talk to Beth, or this entire week would be hell.
“Is she up in her room?” You asked your mom.
She gave you a slow nod and then returned to watching the TV. She didn’t have to say anything; she knew why you asked.
Upstairs, your house was divided by two hallways. The left hallway had your parents and Stella’s room, and down the right was yours and Beth’s. You had spent so many nights with her tucked in the bed with you, staying up late talking about anything under the sun and always being each other's best friend. But that all disappeared when she realized how terrible Bennett was. Leaving Boston broke her heart, and in turn, Bennett broke yours and destroyed everything left between you and your family.
After a sharp inhale and one final wipe of your eyes, you knocked on her door, hoping she’d let you in. The silence behind the door cemented the fact she knew it was you, yet the door opened and revealed Beth just as disheveled as you were. Her long brown hair was tossed up into a bun, and the makeup she had worn earlier was gone, a redness rimming her eyes in its place. You wanted to wrap your arms around her to apologize for everything, but Beth wasn’t that person. She didn’t want affection. She wanted words.
“Can I come in?” You asked.
She nodded slowly, cracking the door open wider to let you step into her room. It was just as you remembered it: the fluffy white bed in the corner, the scattered polaroids on the wall, and the full-length mirror propped in the corner that you had gotten ready in front of before. Beth sat on the corner of her bed, her head hung as you joined her.
“I’m sorry,” she started. “I was a real bitch at dinner.”
You leaned into her, resting your head on her shoulder.
“You kinda were,” you chuckled. “But I understand. I shut you out. I shut everyone out, honestly. It’s easier to be alone.”
“No, it’s not,” she argued.
“Maybe, but it’s what I thought was best for me. You were right about Bennett, and I didn’t listen to you when I should have.”
“You may be older, but you are so stupid.”
You laughed harder at that, feeling her hand reach around and grip yours. You squeezed her fingers, your chest rising and falling normally. You missed this Beth, the one that could make light of the worst.
“You know I couldn’t have come home, right? I made a life out in Austin, even without Bennett. I even went to his law firm and asked where he had gone, and all they said was that he took a job out of state. I was so scared he came back here, and if I came back to Boston, I’d see him again.”
“Why are you so afraid of him?” She asked.
“Because he broke my heart worse than I could have ever imagined. I don’t know what I’d do if I saw him again, Beth. I’d be terrified.”
Beth glanced down at you, shrugging you off her shoulder so you could meet her eyes. Tears swam in her blue eyes, rolling over onto her cheeks.
“You’re stronger than that. You always have been.”
“I don’t feel like it sometimes.”
She sighed, brushing away tears you hadn’t realized escaped your eyes.
“Don’t let some shit guy ruin your life. You deserve to be happy, sis. There’s going to be someone so much greater out there.”
Flashes of Joel’s dark eyes and curly hair swam into your mind when she said those words. You didn’t want to believe Joel would be that person, but even your mind betrayed you. You willed it away, hoping you’d keep any thought of him lingering in the back of your head.
“I know,” you said. “Eventually, there will be.”
“There’s already someone, isn’t there?” She quirked an eyebrow.
You wanted to deny it and lie, but you wanted your friendship back. So, you told her everything, starting at the father-daughter dance and leading up to the phone call that had just ended. Beth had a massive grin while you spoke, nodding with every detail you shared.
“So… you’re gonna give him a chance, right?” She questioned.
“I can’t. He’s my students’ dad, and I can’t do that. It wouldn’t be right.”
“Then sneak around,” she pressed. “Here’s this amazing guy who’s obviously into you, and you’re gonna let that slip away because of what’s right and wrong?”
“What would you do?” You exhaled, falling back against her bed. You stared at the ceiling fan, watching it twirl in circles, hoping an answer would be hidden in its blades.
“I’d have amazing sex with him,” Beth chuckled, laying back beside you. “And then maybe fall in love, I don’t know. But sex for sure.”
“You’re terrible,” you giggled.
Beth laughed along with you, shuffling her body closer so both of you were shoulder to shoulder. Coming home would feel like this again, but coming home would mean losing everything all over again. You’d lose your job and the house you loved so much… and you’d lose Joel. For some reason, the idea of not seeing him around made your heart ache in ways you hadn’t felt in a long time. Maybe Beth was right; maybe you’d give Joel a chance.
It was well into the night when you finally found yourself unwinding in bed and curling under the covers. You held your phone close to your chest, wondering if it was too late to call. In Boston, it was nearly midnight. Austin was only an hour behind, but you knew Joel worked early with his company. You didn’t want to assume he’d be asleep already, but the chances were slim he was awake and waiting for you.
You dialed his number anyway.
It barely reached the second ring before he answered, your name as sweet as ever rolling through the receiver.
“I didn’t think you’d call,” he said. “Figured you forgot all about me.”
“Never,” you whispered, trying to keep your voice down. Everyone was asleep in the house, and the last thing you wanted was for them to hear you talking on the phone late at night like you were a teenager all over again.
“Y’figure everythin’ out with your family?” He asked.
“Yeah, it’s all good now.”
“Why’re you whisperin’?” He chuckled.
“Because everyone is asleep,” you tossed back.
“Sneakin’ around late then, huh?”
“Don’t tease me, Mr. Miller.”
“I’ll tease all I want,” he countered.
You blew out a breath, rolling over in the bed. With your knees curled up to your chest, you listened to Joel’s soft breathing and wondered if he was in bed, too. You wondered what he looked like, stretched out against the mattress, and if his body was as warm as his smile.
“Are you going to tell me about Romeo and Juliet? Or are you just going to sidetrack us again?” You asked softly.
Joel let out a heavy sigh, and you could hear rustling behind him. He was in bed, and for some reason, that enticed you.
“You coulda warned me that they both die,” he started. “If it weren’t for Paris, they coulda had a happy ending!”
“The whole point of the story is to have a tragic ending. Shakespeare warned everyone in the foreshadowing, with Montague saying, ‘These violent delights have violent ends.’ It’s supposed to be a story about the chaos of passion.”
“Still ain’t makin’ up for the fact they never got to be together,” Joel grumbled.
“Not every story is a happy ending,” you exhaled, wincing at the words you spoke. You didn’t die because of Bennett, but the story hit too close to home. Between the chaos of family and the violent ends of your relationship, you had nearly become Juliet, killing herself over a man. Not literally, but the pain after the wedding was a death within itself.
“Why d’you like it so much?” Joel asked.
“Wasn’t that your job to find out?”
“I’m not gonna lay here and make assumptions ‘bout you, but I get the feelin’ you’re a lot like Juliet.”
“Maybe,” you muttered quietly.
“Who’s Romeo then?”
He didn’t sound angry, but you knew he only asked because he wanted to understand you better. And fuck, if that wasn’t a turn-on in itself.
“He’s the one that left me at the altar.”
There was a heavy silence from his end of the phone. You wanted to take the words back and shove them deep within you where the world couldn’t hear them. No matter how many times you said it aloud, it never felt easier. But it was the unfortunate truth; your love story had a tragic ending.
“Jesus fuck, I’m so sorry,” Joel exhaled.
“Don’t be. I’m okay.”
“Whoever did that didn’t deserve you. Perfect girl like you ain’t deserve someone that shitty.”
Perfect girl.
You had to clench your thighs together at the way his voice roughened when he said those two words. You wanted to play them on a loop over and over until you were mindless. Bennett never called you perfect—beautiful, maybe, but never perfect. He knew you for five years and never said it; Joel knew you for a month and not only said it…but believed it.
“I stayed with him a lot longer than I should have.”
“Wanna talk about it?” Joel offered, his voice gentler than a moment ago.
“Not right now,” you whispered. “I’ll make you a deal.”
“I’m listenin’.”
You were playing with fire now, and maybe it was the vulnerability of the day catching up to you, but Beth’s words were stuck in your head. There’s going to be someone so much greater out there.
“Ask me anything you want over dinner.”
Silence. Dead silence.
You held your breath, waiting for a response, waiting for anything. You could handle rejection, or at least you hoped you could. You hadn’t put yourself out there since Bennett left, and the idea of being unlovable was hard to wrap your head around. Did he ruin you to the point of no return? Was there any hope left?
“I’m not gonna take y’out to dinner and talk about your ex-fiancé,” Joel grumbled.
“Oh, okay, yeah. I understand.”
The tears were welling in your eyes now, threatening your composure. He didn’t want to take you out anymore; that was fine. Who would want to deal with the broken pieces left in the wake of your past?
“If I’m gonna take you out, it’s gonna be a proper date where I get to know you,” Joel lowered his voice, the sound echoing through your head.
“A date?” You laughed nervously.
“Yes.” He said your name in a stern tone that stalled your breathing. “Quit bein’ all professional, and let me take you somewhere nice so I can really get to know you. That’s all I been wantin’ to do.”
“I’ll make you another deal,” you offered.
“God, you and your damn deals. Alright, let’s hear it,” he chuckled.
“When I’m back, ask me on a proper date.”
“Haven’t I already done that? The offer still stands, y’know.”
“I wasn’t ready to say yes when you asked. I think I’m ready now.”
“Bout damn time,” he laughed. “I swear I’m a patient man, but I’ve been goin’ out my damn mind waitin’ for you.”
“I’m sorry,” you mumbled. That was always the default response these days.
“You’re worth waitin’ for, I promise.”
You were at a complete and total loss for words. How did Joel always say everything you had always wanted to hear? You tried not to compare him to Bennett, but this was far beyond anything you had received in the past. It was foreign but so sweet. You allowed yourself to take the plunge; now, every risk was heightened. If the heartbreak Bennett had caused was this bad, you hoped never to find out what losing Joel would feel like.
“Y’still there?” He asked.
“Yeah, I’m still here,” you whispered. You didn’t realize how long your thoughts had silenced you. “I’m looking forward to you asking me.”
“And I’m lookin’ forward to askin’…again.”
You smiled to yourself and shoved your head further under the covers. You could hear Joel yawning on the other end of the phone, and you realized just how late it was. You could listen to him talk until you fell asleep, but you wouldn’t keep him any longer.
“Go and get some sleep, Mr. Miller.”
“Y’sayin’ I’m old?” He grumbled.
“I’m saying I can hear you yawning over there,” you quipped.
“Alright, alright. Maybe we should both be gettin’ sleep. Can I call you tomorrow?”
“Yeah, I’d like that.”
“Goodnight,” he whispered.
“Goodnight, Mr. Miller.”
The rest of the week went smoother than you had imagined. After the conversation with Beth, you both fell back into the familiar routine of being close. You’d catch her sliding you small smiles while you were out around the city, a deep concern crossing over her eyes, knowing how hard it was to relive the memories. Boston hadn’t changed, making it easier knowing you had made the right decision to leave. Stella introduced you to her new boyfriend, and your parents cooked a huge dinner to include him in a family evening together. And every night, you’d stay up late talking to Joel on the phone.
He told you tiny snippets of his day and what had happened at work while you shared pieces of your day traveling around town with family. You noticed how he sidestepped or avoided asking deeper questions about you, and it was sweet knowing that he really wanted to wait for that date to ask those questions. Those late-night talks became something you looked forward to, even if they were filled with mundane things to chat about.
Friday came quicker than you expected, and you were fidgeting to get on the plane home. Joel had asked the night before when you were landing and insisted on being the one to pick you up from the airport. You were struggling to continue saying ‘no’ to him, and frankly, you wanted him to be the first person you saw when you arrived.
Austin’s skyline was dotted with lights as the plane touched down in the evening. Those few hours on the plane felt like an eternity, but as you scrambled down the tunnel into the airport, you felt a surge of excitement flowing through your body. Something had shifted over the week between you and Joel; that line between professional and unprofessional slowly disappeared. You were losing the battle inside you to keep your distance from him, and God made it so easy to do that. His charm kept you coming back for more, and the idea of what could happen between the two of you was terrifying, but the risk was beginning to look less dangerous. You felt comfortable, which was far from what you felt with Bennett. You always had to be the best version of yourself, the perfect image of a perfect girlfriend and fiancé. But you realized with Joel, you could let your control slip. He had seen and heard your vulnerability more times than you wanted to allow, yet he didn’t run away.
He didn’t run away.
That thought slammed into you as you walked through the airport, knowing you weren’t walking towards an empty altar. You were walking towards a man willing to wait for you—for the first time.
As you made it through the crowd of other travelers, you finally emerged into the lower level of the airport, your eyes darting around to find Joel. In the chaos of bodies walking around, his tall figure stood above the rest, a small bouquet of flowers in hand. Your steps slowed as you approached, your eyes shifting from the flowers to his welcoming smile.
“What’s this?” you asked, your cheeks pink from running or seeing him; you weren’t sure.
“Figured it would be a nice way to welcome you home,” Joel smiled, handing them to you.
The flowers were an array of colorful carnations, their orange and pink petals standing out against the green leaves surrounding them. You took them from him and watched as he replaced the flowers in his hand with your luggage, insisting on carrying them for you. He wore a multi-colored flannel, the material stretching over his back and shoulders as he lifted your bags. You stood back, mesmerized, as he led you toward the parking garage.
“Thank you again,” you said. “I know you had a long work day, so thank you for driving out here.”
Joel looked over his shoulder and smiled at you. You noticed the scruff on his face was a bit grown out from the last time you saw him, but those bare patches still stood strong. There was a strange urge inside you to kiss them and feel the warmth of the skin underneath.
“It’s no trouble at all,” he said.
His truck was parked far back in the parking lot, which made the walk together longer than you expected. The smell of the flowers enveloped you as you held them close to your chest. You could only count a handful of times Bennett had gotten you flowers and could count even fewer times he actually picked you up from the airport. Any time you went home to visit family, which was far and few, he used the excuse of work to avoid being there for you.
Joel lifted your luggage into the backseat of his truck, turning to you once he shut the door. He spoke your name softly, staring down at you as you gave him a curious look.
“Well, since you’re home now, I’m just gonna ask it,” he started. “Would you go out to dinner with me?”
“I’d love that,” you smiled, a blush crawling up your neck.
“Good,” he nodded. “I hope you’re hungry.”
“Wait, you mean right now?”
Joel leaned closer to you, tucking a strand of your hair behind your ear.
“I told you I’m a patient man, but I ain’t waitin’ any longer. So get your stubborn ass in my truck, and let me take you out.”
“You’re relentless, Mr. Miller,” you rolled your eyes.
Joel opened the passenger door for you, waiting patiently as you climbed in and buckled yourself.
“I’m gonna make sure you stop callin’ me that by the end of the night,” he said, his eyes trained on you.
Your breath stalled, and you wondered about the meaning behind his words. Joel probably didn’t mean it sexually, but that’s exactly where your brain went. This was only a date, nothing more, nothing less. You were already giving into him with this; you wouldn’t give in any more than that—no matter how badly you might want to.
“We’ll see, Mr. Miller,” you smirked.
Joel’s brown eyes darkened at your challenge, and you hoped he didn’t notice how your thighs clenched to quell the warmth pooling inside your stomach. You were staying strong on this one; saying his name meant giving up control entirely. If you gave up the control, you’d give up everything, and you weren’t sure if you could do that to yourself—not yet, at least.
You made small talk with Joel on the drive to his chosen restaurant. It was a casual steakhouse, but you were obviously underdressed from being on a plane for nearly four hours. Joel wasn’t much better either; his attire always seemed too casual and messy. Oddly enough, it was growing on you. You couldn’t imagine him wearing suits or dress-casual attire; it didn’t suit his persona. He was rugged through and through, and you liked that. You had judged him so early on, but the carefree way he carried himself amplified your attraction to him. Bennett always wore some bullshit suit and tie for work, looking overdressed and uncomfortable. Whenever he wasn’t working—which was rare—he still looked like a pretentious East Coast snob with his dress slacks and polo. God, the more you thought about it, the more it pissed you off.
Once Joel and you were seated at a table and ordered, you found yourself squirming in your seat. Joel’s eyes were warm and unwavering in the restaurant's lighting as he focused on you. With his hands folded on the table, he kept his body pressed forward just to get closer to you.
“So, I know y’told me you had sisters,” he started. “Beth and Stella, right?”
“Mhmm,” you nodded, sipping the red wine before you. You hadn’t planned on drinking, but your body demanded some sort of aid in numbing the nerves coursing through your veins. “Stell is the youngest. She’s eighteen. She graduated high school this year and started attending Boston College in September. Beth is two years younger than me and works in graphic design for a company in downtown Boston.”
“If Beth is two years younger, that makes you…”
“I’m twenty-seven, Mr. Miller,” you chuckled.
Joel’s eyes widened a bit, most likely as he realized the age gap between you both. Clearly, he had to have noticed by now, but his reaction was still comical. You nervously bit your lip, wondering if the distance between your age would make him less interested. It’s only a date, you reminded yourself. He wasn’t interested in you that much.
“Shesh,” he whistled, leaning back into his chair. “I ain’t take you to be that young.”
“Sorry to disappoint,” you muttered.
He shook his head, reaching for his beer, and you watched him take a long sip before responding.
“No, it’s not like that,” he reassured. “Y’just surprise me, that’s all.”
“How so?” You asked, leaning forward.
“Y’act so mature sometimes,” he explained. “You’re big on actin’ professional and adult-like.”
“It’s my job,” you said.
“Bein’ a teacher shouldn’t stop you from enjoyin’ your twenties,” he countered.
You sighed, nodding along to his words. A lot of things had stopped you from enjoying your twenties, like a particular asshole you thought you’d spend your life with. Being young and careless was never something in the cards for you, and honestly, the closest thing you had gotten to that was the night Joel saw you at the bar.
“Do you feel like being a young dad did the same for you?” You asked.
Joel inhaled sharply, scratching the back of his neck. You began to realize he did that a lot; in nervous moments, in moments he was deep in thought, in moments he felt awkward. Right now, you assumed it was because he was trying to formulate some sort of response.
“I ain’t really had a choice in it. When Sarah’s mom left, I was pretty lost tryna do the ‘dad’ thing. I had to juggle between work and bein’ present, and Tommy was young then, too, so he couldn’t help much. I just tried my best and learned as I went.”
“How old is Tommy?”
“Younger than you,” Joel laughed. “He’s twenty-five.”
“Oh gosh, you guys have a big age gap, too.”
“That we do.”
The waiter brought your meals, forcing the chit-chat to stall while you indulged in the steak and side dishes in silence. Occasionally, Joel would hum as he ate, glancing up at you to see your reaction to the flavors as well. You returned his curious eyes with soft smiles, indulging in how he looked at you like you were something he hungered for far more than the food in front of him. When the plates cleared and your napkins were disposed of, Joel asked the waiter for another round of drinks so that you both had no option but to remain seated in each other's company.
“What made you want to be a teacher?” He asked, smoothing down the flannel over his stomach.
Your eyes caught onto the movement of his hand as it brushed down his navel, the veins flexing as he readjusted himself in his chair. Joel dipped his head slightly to draw your attention back to his soft eyes, and you instantly felt caught in your actions.
“I’m not sure, honestly. I’ve always loved literature, and the idea of teaching young kids about it just seemed appealing. There’s a lot of power in words, you know? I want to show them that.”
“That’s pretty poetic of you to say,” he smirked.
“Well, I hope so. I literally teach poetry for a living.”
Joel chuckled quietly, the lines around his eyes crinkling as his smile stretched across his face. Was it terrible that you were picturing him kissing you? Despite every thought in your head that shouted at you not to think about it, it was all you could focus on.
“Do you enjoy your job?” You countered.
“I do, most days. Tommy and I are tryna start up our own business one day, but it ain’t in the cards yet. I need to save up a bit more and hopefully work on gettin’ permits and all that before I can actually do it,” he explained.
“I believe in you,” you said softly. “You’re a hard worker, Mr. Miller.”
“Well, thank you.” His cheeks reddened at your words.
Both of you sat in comfortable silence for a moment, stealing shy glances and laughing at the emptiness of words. Joel had said he wanted to get to know you more, but the questions seemed far and few. In your mind, you considered that a second date could be in the cards, seeing as though neither of you had yet tired of the other. Even in the quiet moments, Joel had remained completely enraptured by you, never letting his eyes stray too far from yours.
“Y’ready to get home?” He asked once the bill was paid for.
“I suppose so,” you shrugged.
Joel’s hand was firm on your lower back as he guided you out of the restaurant and back to his truck. The featherlike touch against your clothed skin was enough to awaken that warmth back into your body, the feeling of it blooming inside you with each step. Inside the truck, you watched as the streets blurred past as Joel drove toward your home. The night was ending, yet you still ached at the thought of him leaving. You didn’t dare to take anything further, and you still didn’t know if that was something he wanted—or if it was something you wanted.
Seeing your tiny home was a breath of fresh air as Joel put his truck in park. You gathered the flowers from the seat and quietly helped him unload your luggage. The tension between you thickened with each step as you approached the front door. Turning to him, you smiled and squeezed his arm.
“Thank you,” you said, hesitating by the door. “For tonight and everything.”
Joel’s eyes sparkled under your porch light, the darkness of his irises illuminated and dancing in the shadows. He had shrugged off his flannel after hauling your luggage from the truck, and now it hung over his arms, exposing the corded veins running from his hands to his biceps.
“Of course,” he said your name softly. “Y’look beautiful tonight, by the way. I can’t remember if I told you that or not, but really, you’re beautiful.”
Your cheeks warmed at the compliment, and there was no way of hiding the redness creeping over your face and neck. He watched you with a hungry gaze, his eyes roaming your body. Even if you only stood in a sweatshirt and a pair of jeans, Joel looked at you like you were bare before him.
“Thank you,” you smiled. “I—I know I look like shit, but thank you.
“Y’definitly don’t look like shit,” Joel insisted. “I’ll plan another date so y’can get all dolled up and look even more beautiful.
“That’s not really necessary. I mean the dressing up part, not the date part. I’d like to go on another date.” You were rambling at this point.
“Sure it is. The world deserves to see y’look beautiful, even if I want to keep you to myself selfishly.”
“Stop it,” you blushed. “Go get home before it gets too late.”
“You tryna get rid of me that quick?”
“I know how much you enjoy talking,” you laughed.
“Yeah, yeah. Whatever,” he grinned, turning to leave. “Y’have a good night, okay?”
“I will. Goodnight, Joel.”
Then you realized what you had said.
He realized it, too.
“Y—,” Joel cut himself off. Shaking his head, he let his flannel fall to the ground. “Fuck it,” he whispered.
Joel swarmed you, pressing you against the door as his hands came up to cup your face. Without a second to breathe, his lips crashed against yours until stars sparked behind your eyes. His mouth was warm as he devoured you slowly, drinking in every noise you made. Every one of your senses was evaded by him: the scent of his cologne drifting over your body, the heat of his skin against yours, the sound of his mouth breathing into yours. You found yourself hesitant at first, adjusting to the hardness of his body pressed against yours. He must have also realized it, his mouth slowing as he pulled away.
“I—shit,” he muttered. “I’m so sorry. I shouldn’t have done that.”
Your fingers crawled up his chest and gripped at the collar of his shirt, hauling him back to you until your mouth was a breath away from his.
“Just shut up and kiss me again,” you whispered.
Then his lips pressed against yours again, this time frantic and all-consuming. You opened your mouth to him, letting him taste the vulnerability spilling out of you, replacing it with desperation you hadn’t yet dared to feel. Your tongue darted out to brush over his bottom lip, and he captured it in another greedy kiss, intertwining himself with you. Joel’s hands moved to tangle in your hair, his fingers lightly pulling as he drew you in closer. Your hands wound their way around his neck; your chest flush against his until all you could feel was the rapid beating of his heart matching yours. There was no way of telling where he began and you ended; you both had melted into one. Lips, teeth, tongue… over and over again, the motion repeated, and you felt the warmth creeping up your spine the more he moved against you. You sunk your teeth into his lip, tugging it slightly, as you pulled away to gasp for air.
“Joel,” you exhaled, panting softly.
“Yeah, baby?” His voice was rough as he pressed his forehead to yours.
“What are we doing?”
“I don’t know, but I don’t wanna stop.”
He lowered his lips to kiss down your neck, the chill of his mouth on you prickling your skin. You couldn’t form any words to tell him to stop. You didn’t want him to stop. You were mindless and boneless in his strong grasp, completely untethered from your control. All you could focus on was the way his mouth roamed over the column of your neck, the veins that your blood rushed through throbbing under his lips. Joel’s hand traveled back around, his thumb tipping your jaw upwards so that he could kiss more of your skin. Your eyes blinked at the flickering bulb of your porch light, the sound of crickets chirping somewhere in the distance. His tongue traced a line up your neck, his teeth nipping against your jaw. You let out a soft whine as his mouth connected to yours again, the passion between you snapping into place.
The night wasn’t ending here. You needed more. The craving was too intense to keep at bay, and you needed him in ways you had been too afraid to admit. Your fingers wound themselves into the curls at the base of his neck, holding him firm against you as you grinned into his open mouth.
“Come inside,” you mumbled against his moving lips.
You fumbled blindly for your keys, twisting around to unlock your door; all the while, Joel kept his lips on any part of your skin he could find. He reached around you to shove the door open, and with one arm wound around your waist, you both tumbled over the threshold.

Tuesday sees a new block in your calendar. The three hour meeting stands out in the internal calendar as its highlighted bright yellow. You don’t know where it’s come from. You’re nervous.
Have you done something wrong? Is this a firing? Does that really take three hours?
You try not to let your innate insecurity get the best of you. You click on it but the new window offers little more than the time. All participants are hidden and there’s no description aside from ‘meeting’. The only other information is the conference room number. Right, so you’re going to implode in the hour leading up to it.
You try to focus but the Excel lines are much tighter than usual. They seem to blur together as you file through a thousand different possibilities and none of them are good. What do you do if you are in trouble? If you do lose your job? You have nothing to fall back on.
You get up ten minutes from the start of the meeting. The building is still new to you and you have to check the placards on the wall to make sure you’re at the right conference room. The door is already open and you slow down as you see Tony strut through ahead of you. This definitely seems off. He’s one of the top execs…
What if it’s a mistake? What if you were added by accident? Maybe you misunderstood it. Maybe it was a notice to stay away. Oh, you’re so confused.
You enter the room and hug your notebook to your chest. The table against the far wall is arranged with trays of catering; pastries, fruits, veggies, quiche, all sorts of delights. Alongside the treats are coffee and tea and a frosty jug of water.
Tony helps himself to a cup of coffee and several tarts. Several other seats are already filled. You vaguely recognise them, not all by name, but you know they’re from various departments. You sit at the table and lay your notebook down, nervously gripping the spiral as you flick your thumb against the tip of the pen slid within.
No one else seems to notice you. They all know each other and chatter among themselves. Five including you. Not very many at all. You wait, wondering who called the meeting as no one seems in a hurry to begin.
The door clicks but you’re the only one who hears it as they rest or deep in conversation. You peek over as Thor strides to the head of the table, stopping behind the high-backed chair.
“I hope you all helped yourselves to the wonderful treats,” he smiles, “don’t mind me as I grab a few before we begin.”
He carries on to the trays and you look down at your notebook. You open it to the first blank page and slide your pen free of the coil. You wiggle it between your fingers as you wait. Surely, it can’t be disciplinary. There’s food and Tony is one of the top guys.
Thor returns, a healthy mound of sweets and fruits on his plate and a steaming cup in the other. He sits and pushes his shoulders wide, sighing as he peers up and down the table. You shrink down as you sit at the opposite end.
“Well, we are all here,” he declares, drawing the silence of the rest. They all turn their attention on him. “I think some of you already know why I’ve brought you here but we have lots of time to get filled in. We’ll be taking breaks of course but we won’t waste time, yes?”
“Yes, sir,” your voices reply out of turn.
“We will be working on a very special project. It’s big news that we’ve acquired Onyx Row and it’s all well and good to put a pretty bow on it and send out a release, but we have to handle all that background noise. We have to figure out how that works,” he explains.
You’re almost hypnotised by his voice and the way he moves his hands as he speaks. He’s so confident and carefree. You envy him as much as you admire him.
“You have all been handpicked to take this on,” he pauses to look at each and every one of you. “We need a strong team. We’ll have new clients to take it and to retain, we’ll have new profits but new expenses as well, and we have a lot to learn about OR. We all know things are not always transparent in acquisitions.”
There’s a murmur of agreement as you stay silent. You’re still not sure you’re supposed to be here. You don’t have very much experience, just a certificate you got at the end of your degree. You chew your lip as you stare down the table, suddenly caught in the sights of another.
Thor’s blue eyes meet yours and his cheek dimples. You blanch and make yourself sit straight. You uncap your pen and quickly scribble in your notebook; Onyx Row.
“Today’s strategy planning,” Thor says, “we’ll toss some ideas around until the first break, then after that, we’ll come up with a ladder.” He stacks his hands over and over as he talks, “figure out how we climb it. Step by step.”
There’s typing on keyboards. You regret not unhooking your laptop but your notebook’s just as good for notes. Tony leans backs as he chews a quiche, crumbs dusting down his jacket.
“Stark, why don’t you write something down, eh? You’re not here for a free meal.”
“That’s what you think,” Tony scoffs playfully but lets his chair snap straight and taps on his touch pad to wake up the laptop.
“Right then,” Thor stands, “I’ve a brief presentation to get us started before we start brainstorming.”
Your stomach swims. The displacement remains but at least you’re supposed to be there. Even if you’re not sure you’re the right choice. Everyone else in the room is a veteran and you’re just you. That’ll have to do.
Or maybe you’ll just show yourself to be a total noob.
🏙️
At the midpoint of the meeting, several new trays are added to the spread. It’s a lot for six people. You finally get up to grab a tea, steeping a bag of green in hot water, then take a small triangle of a tuna sandwich and a few pieces of fruit back to your seat. Despite the ice breakers round, you’re still shut out of the clique-like conversation of the others.
You don’t mind so much. Talk for business, nothing else. This is work. Besides, you’re so anxious you don’t know what you would say. You chalk it up as much to your own inaction as to their blatant exclusion.
The empty chair to your other side rolls back, frightening you as Thor sets down another plate of goodies and sits. You gulp and look at him as you quit your nibbling of the sandwich crust. You clear your throat and wipe your fingers on a napkin.
“Sir,” you greet with a cringing smile, “hi, er.”
“Thor will do,” he assures coolly, “are you enjoying the food?”
“Um, yeah,” you answer, trying to brighten up out of your cocoon, “it’s good.”
“Feel free to have more. There’s plenty to go around.”
“Thank you, that’s… I’m good,” you press your thumb to your index and bend and unbend your knuckle nervously.
“Tea?” He muses as he reaches to flick the small tap dangling from your cup.
“Mhm,” you nod awkwardly, “coffee burns my tum–stomach.”
He smiles broadly, “ah, mine too, but I’m stubborn.” He leans his elbow on the table, his chair turned to face you entirely, “are you nervous?”
Your eyes give you away as they widen at his blunt question. You dip your chin again, “a little. I… you know I only just started, right?”
“Yes, but you have your qualifications,” he insists.
“Yeah, uh, but…” you glance around at the others.
“But, I have faith in you. As I said, I picked every person in this room. You included. I know that new minds are as valuable as more experienced ones.”
“Well, er, thank you for taking a chance on me,” you bit your cheek and force a smile.
“You know, if no one had ever taken a chance on me, I might not be sat here with you right now,” he leans in just slightly, “everyone deserves their chance to prove themselves. I have faith in you, and what about you?”
“What about me?” Your cheeks wobble.
“Do you have faith in me?” He rests his chin in his hand, watching you intently.
“Y-yes, sir, uh, Thor,” you crackle out, “thanks, I…”
“Good,” he praises and sits up, “I’ll let you finish your food, if you don’t mind that I stay and do the same.”
He swivels the chair and picks up a cracker from his plate. You hum in acquiescence, barely able to muster words. The only permission he needs is your nervous reach for your tea. As if you would tell him to go. He’s the boss.
🏙️
You’re finally let free but you don’t feel as much. You have so much more to do now. You carry with you the folder handed out to each member of the room with an exhaustive overview of your session and the Onyx Road contract.
You sit at your desk and take a moment to situate yourself. This is your priority. Everything else is second tier. That’s as much as Thor said but what are you going to do about Dawn breathing down your neck?
You fix the loose button on your cardigan that comes undone now and again, right at the worst spot; the middle. You pull the bottom straight and clear your throat, signing into your computer as you rejig back to work mode.
As you shuffle through the emails you received in your absence, a figure approaches. You delete a redundant communication before you face them. You expect Dawn but instead, an all too familiar face looks down at you. Sitting, Thor seems to tower over you even more than usual. You feel like you should stand as he bends his neck to talk to you.
“I did forget to mention some things early. As you can expect, some details slip through the cracks in such a big project,” he spreads his hand on the corner of your desk.
“Oh, okay,” you grip the arms of your chair as you peer up at him.
“IT will be around to help connect to the shared drives required for the project,” Thor explains as he leans on one foot, hooking the other over it. “You will be dealing with some very important documents. Confidential so you will also need to relocate…” he looks around briefly, “you will be moved to a private office.”
“Uh, wow, that’s… okay,” you nod with a flutter of lashes.
“It’s a lot, I know, but you will be compensated. At special projects rate, no less,” he intones as he drags his hand up his suit jacket and curls his fingers around his lapel. His fingers are so thick. All of him is. And big. You’re getting vertigo just looking up at him. “You be in your new home by the end of the day.”
“Today?” You ask, almost breathless.
“Yes, we move fast around here,” he grins, “but I also wished to tell you that should you require any support, you will come to me. Your supervisor has been informed of your reassignment and your daily duties will be handed out to your colleagues for the duration of this project.”
“Uh huh,” you croak out, “that makes sense.”
“You understand, this is a big assignment. It could require late nights and… business trips.”
“Yes,” you lie. You really hadn’t considered that. In the contract you signed, it was for a desk, there was no travel, no overtime.
“Another matter for us to deal with. Travel pay, extra hours…” he drones as if bored.
“I understand,” you murmur.
He drops his hand to frame his hip, pushing back his jacket as he stays leaned against your desk. His eyes stick to you as they storm in mystery, “I like that sweater. It’s cute.”
You look down at the flower embroidery and your cheeks singe. Compared to him and the other execs, you were a touch underdressed. That’ll probably need to change too.
“Uh, yeah, I…” you fix the loose button again, “sorry, I’ll… I’ll buy a blazer.”
“I mean it,” he drags his hand from the desk and stands straight, “don’t buy the blazer, that suits you better.”
You crane your neck to look up at him again, “thanks, sir,” you fold your hands in your lap, “I… like your tie.”
You immediately want to disappear as the words trickle out. You sound so stupid. He touches his blue grey tie patterned with white paisley and examines it.
“Not one of my favourites, but thank you,” he chuckles. “Right,” he snaps his fingers, “much work to do. For both of us.” He shifts back on his sole, “don’t forget what I said, if you need anything, I’m your man.”
He winks and spins on his heel. You watch him go as tension raises your shoulders. That was awkward and painful. You’re already doubting your place in this whole thing. Before you can turn your chair back to your desk, you don’t miss the errant gazes in your direction. You ignore them as best you can but they sear into your back. You have witnesses to your humiliation, great.

when her car left the parking lot it was silent. the radio played softly but you or ellie didn’t utter a word. suddenly the reality of what she had offered sunk in, you two had an hour drive together. ellie focused on driving while you stared out into the window at the dark road. she had almost kissed you again and for the first time it didn’t raise any alarm bells in your head. everything was calm in those moments inches from her face, as if the world had been swept away from underneath the two of you. hearing the song on the radio dim out, your head turned to face her. ellie’s eyes were fixed on the road, one arm at the top of the wheel with the other resting on the gear knob. she caught you in her peripheral and her head turned slightly.
“we don’t even know wh–”
“i think you played–”
you both spoke over each other, attempting to awkwardly break the silence that had enveloped you. ellie laughed lightly and it was probably the first time you had ever heard her laugh, “you go,” she said, turning the wheel to make a left and you caught a glimpse at her hands, gripped firmly around the wheel and a memory of them doing the same to your hips flashed in your mind before you cleared your throat to rid of it.
“i was just gonna say we don’t even know who won the game,” you recalled, your hands placing themselves in your lap and pressing your legs together slightly.
“oh, yeah–” she swiveled her head to catch a quick glance at you before focusing back on the road. “my money’s on my team.” she said cockily, again turning the wheel with only one hand.
“only cause i wasn’t playing, right?” you banter, remembering her somewhat of a confession from your walk. she rolled her eyes but a small smile crept on the sides of her lips as she did.
“oh my god, that is not what i fuckin’ said,” she laughed again, another quick glance at you, who was smiling proudly earning another eye roll from her.
“what were you gonna say?” you asked her, peeling off your knee pads from your legs as they started to itch.
ellie glanced down at your movement, quickly pulling her eyes back up to the road, “oh uhm–” she readjusted her grip on the steering wheel. “just that, your coach was stupid to pull you, you were doing fine.”
your head snapped towards her, a dramatic shocked expression on your face. “a compliment? how did you not just implode spontaneously?”
ellie shifted in her seat, bringing her hand that was previously on the gear shift to the bottom of the wheel and leaning on the window with her now free arm. “just say thank you like a normal person?” her tone had a hint of annoyance but the sly smile on her face gave her away, and instead of prying it out of her you just accepted it.
“thanks–” your eyes darted back out to the road, out of the seclusion that was the community center and into a more urban area with street lamps and business on either side of the road. your eyes caught the highway sign right as you passed it and you sat up, your head turning to see it fade back into darkness as her car kept moving. “that was the highway,” you turned to her, her head snapping back as if to see the sign herself but her eyes returned to the road in front of her within seconds.
“fuck,” she uttered under her breath. the car started to slow down, taking a quick look around the road. “one sec,” she turned her car to the left, placing it as close to the curb as she could, then shifted the car into reverse. her arm swung around to the back of your headrest and her body moved with it. you couldn’t help but stare as she did, her eyes fixed on the road behind you. because of her positioning, you could see the outline of her muscle filled arm, as if she was flexing them. the movement of her upper body made her shirt ride up in the front, exposing some of her toned stomach and before any thoughts could come to mind you darted your eyes away.
ellie could feel as you watched and when she turned her head to meet your eyes they were already gone and she swiftly put the car back in drive before pulling away. the radio was the only thing audible in the car as she turned on the highway, picking up speed as she did and her car revved over the radio. you waited until she was comfortably cruising in the fast lane before speaking again, hating the words that came out of your mouth but not being able to do anything to stop yourself, “so can we talk about the big fat elephant that's in the car?”
ellie sighed while checking her rearview mirror then looking at you briefly, “if you want to,”
“why wouldn’t i?”
“i dunno,” she shrugged, keeping her eyes on the highway in front of her. it was quiet again but only for a moment before she continued. “i can’t give you an explanation, if that's what you want.” she almost sounded disappointed in herself.
“why not?”
ellie rolled her eyes, taking a deep breath in. “why don’t you give me an explanation?”
“because you kissed me, you cuddled with me, you almost kissed me again.” you listed off your reasons, using your fingers to count them off and she looked annoyed.
“i didn’t do it alone–” her tone was harsh, as if the conversation was treading on thin ice.
“yeah, but you started it.” you returned her attitude, feeling a familiar fight coming on.
“do you want me to sit here and tell you that i did it for a reason? there was no reason–” ellie used her hand that was resting on the gears to emphasize her words, feeling agitated that you brought this up when the ride was going smoothly. the high was wearing off between the two of you and with it went the calm that had settled too.
“why are you being so cagey?” your voice raised slightly. ellie switched lanes, seeing the exit she had to take in the distance.
“why are you asking so many fucking questions?” she returned your raised voice, turning the wheel to take the exit. the ramp was long and curved and she slowed to a stop at the red light at the end of it. taking the time to turn to you, a grimace on her face.
you groaned, crossing your arms and leaning your knees against the car door away from her. “just thought we could have a legit conversation, but that seems out of your capabilities.”
ellie pressed on the gas when the light turned green, making a turn towards your campus. the drive had felt like the longest and the shortest in your life, and now you kind of wished you took the bus. she remained quiet as you did, noticing your position in her passenger seat. “jesus fuckin’ christ,” she breathed out as the welcome sign to your campus came into view.
you started again, “i just think its funny becau–”
the car came to a halt on the deserted road sending you forward and you looked at her in disbelief. she quickly put the car in park and as you looked at her face only illuminated by the orange dashboard in front of her, you couldn’t read her. “what the hell, ellie?” you questioned, looking around and you thought she wanted you to walk the rest of the way.
her hands came up to your face, redirecting your focus to her. she cupped your cheeks and brought your lips to hers. although the anger for her in you was still firmly in your chest, you didn’t fight her instead leaning further into the kiss. her tongue found yours like it had in the bathroom weeks ago, slipping it’s way over your tongue harshly sending shivers throughout your body. butterflies danced in your stomach as her hand left your face, wandering down your body to explore.
you wanted to be closer, the middle console blocking any other physical contact you two could share. while still letting her tongue roam your mouth, you moved over the console and placed yourself in her lap. it was uncomfortable, but her hands instantly wrapped around your hips and slid down to grab your ass. you rocked your body against hers, liking the feeling of her underneath you and she squeezed your ass tightly. your lips disconnected from hers and instead found her neck, leaving sloppy wet kisses all over it. ellie’s breathing was barely recovering and as you kissed her neck, incoherent mumbles and short quick breaths filled your ears.
her hands that had been running up and down your back found their way in between you two, groping your tits firmly and you hummed against her neck at the feeling. the pressure formed between your legs all the faster as she massaged them, keeping one hand placed on your breast, squeezing as much as she could, she used her other hand and traced it up your chest to your neck, wrapping her fingers lightly around it. this pulled you back from her neck, making eye contact with her green eyes. though the green had vanished, replaced with dilated eyes glossed over with every touch you placed on her.
she studied your face, her hand still around your neck. her head tilted, taking you all in while you straddled her lap and a sly smile formed on her wet lips, “you still wanna ask me those questions?” her voice raspy, hoarse even and she tightened her grip on your neck ever so slightly. way different than it was before and it took everything in you not to melt in her lap.
“shut up,” you groaned, bringing your face back down to kiss her again, rolling your body against her. you could feel her smirk against the kiss, retreating her hands back down to your hips to move with them against her. the smirk didn’t diminish and this time it was you who snuck your hand up to her neck, gripping with the same firmness she had, you broke the kiss but hovered over her lips as her eyes opened to meet yours separated by only millimeters, “you are insufferable.”
a light chuckle came from her, sinking her fingers into your hips, “and yet here you are,” her neck extending to allow your grip to remain. there was a beat of silence, both of your heavy breathing over powering the radio that still played lightly in the background. you let go of her neck, sliding your hand down her torso and feeling her tits through the layers of clothing. she attached her mouth to your neck as you had done, sucking a little too hard and you worried about hickeys but it felt too good in the moment to tell her to stop. but she did and her words bounced off of your now sensitive skin, “do you have a roommate?”
that’s how you ended up barging into your dorm with her hands all over you, slamming the door shut behind her without ever breaking the kiss. she pushed you against the closest wall, gripping your skin in her hands before trailing kisses down your neck to your stomach, getting on her knees as she slid off your shorts to reveal the very small underwear you had on. she kissed your pussy through your underwear and you had to stop your knees from buckling at the feeling. a wet spot was very obviously noticeable on your panties and it only intensified ellie’s efforts. using her teeth she bit down on the top of your underwear, pulling it down as much as she could before your dripping cunt was in front of her. she used her fingers to move your panties down further, running her hands back up your legs as she looked up at you with lustful eyes.
she lifted one of your legs, slinging it over her shoulder before plunging her tongue into your folds. you bit down on your lip to keep from moaning and your fingers laced themselves in her auburn hair, her tongue already better than anything you could do to yourself. it traced circles on your clit and as she shoved herself deeper into your pussy, you couldn’t help the moans that slipped out of your mouth. with hearing this, ellie was brought back to the bathroom and her brain went into overdrive. she removed her tongue only to then suck on your clit, feeling your leg shake on her shoulder and she brought a finger up to run through your slick.
she looked at you as she did, her mouth a wet mess and you were in shambles above her. her finger teasingly ran up and down your exposed cunt, giving you just enough but not nearly anything close to the feeling over her tongue. your head leaned back against the wall and your eyes shut tight and she tsk’d, still moving her finger lightly, “eyes on me–” she breathed out, waiting for you to look back at her. when you did, a small smile formed on her lips and she brought her slender finger down your cunt. she slid her finger in, never taking her eyes off of you and watching as you crumble before her. when your chest started to heave as she thrust her finger in and out of you, she brought her mouth back to your clit.
you were a mess. dripping on her face and bucking your hips as she went to work, the sensation feeling too good and you felt the familiar twinge below your belly button. you were saying her name between breaths and it only made ellie go harder, pumping her fingers as quickly as she could and revolving her tongue through your slick. without warning she retreated, kissing your stomach while she stood back up. your hands found her face to drag her into a long kiss, she pulled you off of the wall and backed you into your own bed. your elbows propped you up as you watched her tower over you, you used this time to yank off your shirt and sports bra, leaving your chest bare for her.
ellie slipped off her own shorts, her underwear with it before climbing on top of you, reconnecting her lips to yours. you tugged on her shirt and it was off in seconds thrown god knows where. she sat up, tracing her fingers along your body as you laid beneath her and it looked like she wanted to say something but refrained herself. instead, lifting up one of your legs and placing herself so her own drenched pussy was atop of yours. she rocked her hips back and forth, feeling the wetness from both of you spread. mumbles left her mouth as she held your leg in the air, covering her own moans by placing soft and sweet kisses on your leg. ellie steadied herself by clutching onto one of your breasts. her pace began to be ragged, feeling herself come nearly undone. she looked down at you, mouth open and eyes in a haze as you gazed back up at her and despite nearing her finish she leaned down so that her thigh was now pressed against your cunt. you whined into her mouth as she kissed you, the tipping sensation leaving as quickly as it came.
she shuffled off of you, leaning her back to the wall and patted her lap. while you sat down on her lap, she removed her sports bra. her hands fell to your figure and she gazed at you, that unreadable expression still plastered on her face. she looked down at you on her lap and shook her head lightly, “like this–” she moved your body, lifting your leg to move her own out of the way so you were just sitting on her thigh. she tucked your knee in between her legs and her green eyes focused back on you.
moving your hips on her thigh, ellie kneaded on your tits. she enveloped them in her hands while your knee rubbed against her cunt. your hands rested on her legs behind you, back arching and tits out. ellie wasn’t able to conceal her moans at the sight of you and the feeling deep in her stomach. her hands dug into your thighs, pulling them with every thrust of your hips. “h-holy fuck,” she tossed her head back. the sound of her voice was enough for you to start moving faster, and as you did ellie straightened her posture. she wrapped her arms around your back, pulling you closer while you rocked desperately against her thigh.
your foreheads crashed, heavy and hot breath spread across each of your faces. with this, you unraveled. cursing coming out of your mouth along with her name in pants while you shook around her thigh, feeling on top of the world. ellie’s hands moved to your tits, watching you cum on her and feeling your tits in her hands she tipped over the edge as well. her breathing was ragged against you and her forehead left yours while she tipped her head back, eyes rolling. you fell on her chest, while both of you tried to return your breathing back to normal.
she sat with you for a few minutes in silence, you had moved off of her thigh and laid beside her, arm draped over her stomach. her arm was on your back, rubbing small circles. after a bit more of quiet, which seemed to be one of your specialities, you sat up and her eyes followed you. and again, you both spoke over each other.
“i should go to bed–”
“i should probably go–”
without much less, ellie pulled herself off the bed and collected her clothes that had been scattered. you pulled on your own shirt and the awkward silence was heavy in the room. after she had dressed she moved towards the door, hand on the handle. “i’ll see you at the next game?” her eyes scanned your face.
“yeah, i’ll see you then,” you said painfully and without so much of a second glance she left, the door swinging shut behind her.

AITA for threatening to get my best friend sectioned?
This actually happened 2 years ago, but last night he made a joke about it that kind of seemed like he might still be mad at me about it. So. Anyway, ages and all are written as they were at the time.
For context, my (18m) mom took guardianship of my friend (17m), called “J”, after his grandfather passed, a few months before this happened.
Not going into specifics, but J has struggled with OCD and an ED for years, and I suspect when he’s an adult he’ll probably get diagnosed with Narcissistic Personality Disorder at some point.
(Update from the Present: no dice… yet.)
A close family friend of his passed away and it caused his mental issues (particularly the ED) to get a lot worse really quickly.
Even thought my mom was technically his guardian, she kind of relied on me to keep tabs on him because he’s usually pretty honest with me compared to other people. Like, if he’s not doing well, I have the best chance of finding that out.
So. His family friend dies, he gets worse, I report all of this back to my mom, who starts trying to get some sort of more intensive treatment lined up for him (difficult and time consuming because of where we lived at the time).
My mom tells me not to tell J, because he “talks a big game” about not wanting treatment or whatever and she firmly believes it’ll be easier if he doesn’t have time to stress himself out about it before it happens. Okay. So I don’t tell J.
Somehow, he finds out anyway, and also finds out that I knew and had chosen not to tell him, but doesn’t tell me that he knows. (Convoluted, I know, sorry.)
I pick J up from an after school thing one night, we end up talking about pretty heavy shit in the car for a /long/ time, and after the conversation died, he put a hand on my shoulder, leaned over, and kissed me. And like not a short kiss either. It was like a 3 to 4 second kiss.
Context again, I realized I was gay and that I liked J in a not particularly friend-like way when I was 13. I never told him and never planned on telling him. I told him a lot of things but I intended on growing old and dying with that one kept nice and secret. Even if he was some form of not-straight, which I was 99.99% sure he wasn’t, I didn’t think it was worth jeopardizing my closest friendship with romantic and/or sexual feelings that could at best confuse him or make him uncomfortable or at worst outright disgust him.
Anyway. We don’t talk about it, I end up going to stay for a few days with a guy (20m but not really relevant) I’d been sort of seeing/sleeping with for a couple months because I literally couldn’t be in the same house as J or I would probably implode.
Fast forward a week, I’m picking J up from a hospital 2 towns over because he ran away (? unclear really, haven’t discussed the particulars w him and I wasn’t staying at home at the time) and ended up having to go to the ER.
In the car (best time to talk to someone because they can’t run away), he apologizes for kissing me. I’m thrown off by that, because he hadn’t said anything up to this point and it honestly wasn’t even in the top 5 things I was thinking about.
I asked him why he did it and he just sighed and explained in this tone of voice that, I don’t know how to explain it, but had just the right lack of empathy or affect that I knew he was being 110% honest.
Condensed version: he found out I was reporting everything he told me to my mom (still don’t know how). He was pissed. He was aware he needed more intensive treatment, and he knew my mom was aware. He did not want treatment. He knew I had liked him for years. He knew that I was relatively fragile about it. He knew that if he did something (like kiss me for example) there was a good chance it would break my brain and I would freak out.
He essentially kissed me to decommission me for a few days so he could formulate a plan to run away.
FINALLY we have arrived at the AITA part.
After hearing all this, I tried very hard to come up with something rational to say, but ended up saying (essentially), “You’re fucking insane, and I’m telling my mother you need to be committed.”
I know I wasn’t wrong to be angry. But I also know from past knowledge and experiences that he had a deep fear of being deemed “insane” or unfixable or whatever, and also that he was really afraid of treatment in general.
Idk. I go back and forth on whether or not I was out of line, or needlessly escalating the situation, by threatening him. It was a much bigger threat in his mind than it was in mine, and so even though I know I said it as a reaction to a fucked up situation, there’s still the idea that I blew it completely out of proportion and weaponized his own mental issues against him.
So AITA for threatening my best friend by telling him I was going to get him committed to a long term psychiatric hospital?
What are these acronyms?

@steddiemas day 3: needing to be quiet
Rated: E | cw: exhibitionism, brat!Steve
Tumblr media
Laying on the couch, Steve scrolled around on his phone while he waited for Eddie to finish getting ready. Soon heavy breathing and grunts filled the room and Eddie appeared around the back of the couch with wide eyes and his toothbrush still in his mouth.
“What the fuck are you watching?” He asked incredulously after he yanked the toothbrush out of the way.
“This guy chopping wood. On TikTok,” Steve replied innocently, turning his phone so Eddie could see but he could keep watching.
“Uh huh. It sounds like porn.”
Incidentally the man in the video then let out a whimpery that’s it, c’mon causing Eddie to squawk and point at the phone.
Steve bit his lip to hold back his laugh, rolling his eyes and waving him away. “A little jealous much, babe? Alright, I’ll find something else to watch and you finish getting ready. We’re already well past ‘fashionably late,’ I don’t want to have to hear about it.”
Eddie stomped off back to the bathroom.
At dinner, Steve decided to keep riling him up. Letting out little groans and gasps when he took bites of food, smiling innocently when Eddie would quirk an eyebrow at him.
Getting bolder towards the end of the meal, while everyone else was distracted, he set his hand casually on his knee. He traced his finger up and down the inner seam of Eddie’s pant leg, getting closer and closer to-
“I have to use the bathroom,” Eddie said quickly as he stood up from the table, rattling some dishes.
Steve gave him a few minutes before quietly leaving the table himself.
He opened the bathroom door without knocking, smirking when he saw Eddie leaning over the sink and cupping handfuls of water to his flushed cheeks.
“Doing okay?”
Eddie jumped, grabbing the hand towel to dry his dripping face. “Fuck, Stevie. Are you trying to make me implode today?”
“I don’t know what you mean,” he murmured, sidling closer to slot himself between Eddie and the sink.
“You know exactly what I mean. I know we’ve been busy this week, but you don’t need to stoop to this level, teasing me with your little porn video, cornering me in the bathroom at your aunt’s house…”
Steve huffed, trying to keep up the charade for a bit longer. “It was just a TikTok, Eds. But he is super hot, you should see- mmph-“
Eddie picked him up by his waist and sat him on the counter, stepping even closer as he deepened the kiss. Steve raked his hands through his hair and groaned as his dress shirt was tugged out of his pants.
“You gotta be quiet, baby,” Eddie breathed into his neck before grazing his teeth across his skin. “This is what you’ve been needling me for today, huh? Good thing I don’t have any respect for your aunt, but if you get us caught you don’t get to come.”
Steve whined, pulling on his hair to bring his mouth back to his. Remembering something, he pulled back with a gasp, “Lock the door.”
Eddie smirked at him and extended his long arm to push the lock in. “Good thinking, honey. You got this all planned out, huh?”
He laughed and shook his head, “No, I just want you.”
“You got me, and I gotta tell you, all your teasing definitely had the desired effect,” he chuckled as he pulled Steve’s body to the edge of the counter to press his hard length against him.
Steve tried to slide off the counter, wanting desperately to get his mouth on him, but Eddie wouldn’t let him. “We’d be too loud, Stevie. You want them hearing you choke on my cock? Yeah I bet you would. But you’d be the one all flustered when we walk out of here and have to face them.”
Eddie opened both of their pants and stroked them together. Steve gasped and pushed his face into the dark curls, keeping himself quiet by mouthing at his neck.
He added his own hand into the mix, squeezing tighter around Eddie’s hands and making him groan.
“Shh,” Steve tried but was broken off with a gasp of his own as the hands around his dick quickened their pace. “Oh fuck,” he hissed.
“That’s it, c’mon,” was breathed into his ear as his orgasm hit suddenly, making him see stars as his hips jolted up into their conjoined hands. As the aftershocks went through him, he pulled back in time to watch Eddie throw his head back and come between them, biting his lip to keep quiet.
After a hasty clean up and an even hastier exit, they came to a stop at a red light when it hit him. Steve shoved Eddie’s shoulder. “Did you seriously quote the TikTok guy at me? As I was about to come?”
Eddie ducked his head but then laughed. “It’s been rattling around in my head for hours. No wonder you were all hot and bothered.”
“Oh, wait til I show you the Rubik’s cube guy.”

Thankfully the first half of the day went rather uneventful, although I am disappointed I haven’t had a class with the handsome Jasper Hale yet. I did however, make friends with his adopted siblings Alice and Emmett Cullen. Both of which are gorgeous in their own right, but nowhere near as attractive as their blonde brother.
In English I sat in the unoccupied seat next to Alice Cullen, gratefully so. She seems like just the kind of friend a new girl needs in order to survive high school. I transferred to this place at such a horrible time in the year - almost at the end of my 11th grade. But after just a few minutes of knowing her, Alice caught me up on everything I missed. Turns out I’ve pretty much read everything they had covered this year and then some, fingers crossed that it continues to be a trend in most of my classes.
I learned that the boy walking with Jasper Hale this morning when I so rudely almost killed him with the door to the front office, is his adopted brother Emmett Cullen. A hulking mass of muscle, but a complete teddy bear, he kept me entertained for most of Trig. I can already tell that sitting in front of him was probably a bad move on my part for my academic career, but the guy is an absolute comedian.
Parting ways with Emmett after Math, I made my way to my locker. Digging the wrinkled combination paper out of my pocket, I was studying the numbers right when I bumped into a thin scrap of a girl with brown hair and an orange backpack. Immediately cursing myself I dropped to the ground to gather her notes before they could be stepped on by the stampede of people rushing to the cafeteria for lunch.
“Oh my god I’m so sorry! I-I just wasn’t paying attention, I was looking at my stupid locker combination and-“ I scrambled for excuses, word vomit spilling from my lips.
“Oh um, it’s okay! I’m not the most graceful person, so no worries.” An awkward pause, “Hey, you’re the new girl right?” She asked.
“Unfortunately.” I replied, looking up with a sad smile. I stuck out my hand to shake, “I’m Y/n Y/l/n, you are?”
“Bella Swan, former new girl I guess.” She responded as she lightly shook my hand. “You can sit with me during lunch if you want, maybe us gracefully-challenged should stick together.”
“Oh absolutely. I chuckled a little, “I’ll grab my lunch from my locker and find you in there.”
“Cool, see you then.” She replied with a half-wave as she continued down the hallway to the cafeteria.

Jasper
One of the convenient things about being a vampire is that we really don’t necessarily need to breathe. In public places packed with humans, I can just hold my breath, but the challenge comes in making it still seem like I’m breathing.
Lost in my thoughts while Emmett and Rosalie drone on about plans after school, I spot the new girl - Y/n enter the cafeteria. I sit up straighter in my seat and observe her shamelessly as she walks unknowingly in my direction, switching paths as she spots the object of Edward’s latest desire: Isabella Swan. I spare a glance to my stoic adopted brother and see him rising from his seat, probably headed in the same direction as Y/n.
Walking up to the pair, I could tell his eyes were only on Isabella. Both girls stared up at him in awe, their emotions giving away that they were surprised to see him seeking them, or rather a certain one of them, out.
“Isabella-“ Edward started but was interrupted by Y/n.
“I’ll… go find us a seat.” Bella didn’t even spare her a glance as Y/n rushed away.
“Bro, you’re staring a little hard there, something catch your eye?” Emmett said, leaning over Rosalie to nudge my ribs. I turn to him and discreetly flash a crude gesture, causing him to chuckle. I love my brother, he just thrives on getting a rise out of me any chance he gets.
Alice smacks my shoulder, “You two behave, she’s shy and I’ll be upset if your rowdiness scares her off.” My adopted sister huffs in slight frustration at our antics.
“As if we need another human in our business.” Rosalie grumbles from her spot between myself and her mate. Crossing her arms, she stares daggers at the back of Edward’s head from where he’s talking to Bella Swan.
“Oh hush, I want more friends outside of you guys, plus Y/n is relatively safe. Cheer up Rose, I’ve already seen you get along with her rather nicely!” Alice fires back at Rose.
“I haven’t even met her yet-“ Rosalie leans forward to argue.
“But you will and you’ll love her, end of story.” Alice says matter-of-factly.
Rose leans back in her seat, huffing as Emmett pats her thigh. She swipes his hand away, not happy that he finds it amusing that she’ll have to deal with another one of her brother’s fixations on a human girl. It’s always so easy to read Rosalie’s emotions, she wears them so boldly and almost prefers to torture me with their intensity sometimes, as if to get her point across even more than her biting words.
I let out a sigh at their exchange concerning Y/n, she’s been here for half a day and already a hot topic for even us.
Tumblr media
I’ve been in a trance pretty much since lunch, the two classes following it were uneventful allowing my thoughts to fill with day-dreams of the new girl.
Her hair, the way her oversized sweater hangs from her shoulders, her intoxicating scent…
The bell ending sixth period startles me from my reverie. This girl almost put a me-sized-dent in the door to the front office this morning and here I am obsessing over minuscule details after only seeing her twice.
I gather my notes and writing utensils before filing out of the door behind my fellow classmates. I slow my walk to the next class in hopes that I might catch a glimpse of her before the end of the day. I don’t even know her emotional signature yet like I do my adopted siblings, a handy ability I’ve managed to teach myself to find them in busy situations.
My search for Y/n comes up short, the hallways are mostly empty by the time the warning bell rings for the final instruction of the day. With a small huff I enter my seventh period class keeping my eyes on the floor as I make my way to my assigned seat.
“Glad you could make it in the nick of time, Mister Hale.” Mr. Ellis states rather loudly in an accusatory tone, raising an eyebrow as I sit and the final tardy bell rings.
An almost imperceptible gasp to my right keeps me from replying, I clamp my mouth shut and force myself not to meet the gaze I could feel boring into my back as flames begin to lick down my throat.
Wonderful, not only was I late enough to garner the attention of everyone in the room, but Y/n Y/l/n is in my history class and I can’t breathe for the next forty-four minutes.

“How was school sweetheart?” My mother yells from the kitchen as I push open our front door, I swear that woman wastes no time when digging for information.
“Jeez, let me get in the door first!” I yell back with a light-hearted chuckle, setting my backpack on the ground by the couch just inside the living room.
“Sorry, I’m just excited to see how everything went.” Her voice is much closer this time and I turn to see her walking down the connecting hallway wiping her hands on a dish towel.
I flop onto my back on the couch as she leans over the back, folding her arms under her chest with an expectant look on her face ready for my response.
“Well, I don’t think it’ll be hard to catch up in-“ but my mom interrupts me excitedly.
“No, no, no! I need the good stuff! Did you make any friends? See any cute guys?” I could burst out laughing at the look on her face and the fact that she’s more concerned about my social life than my academics on the first day of school in a new town.
“Mom!” I drag the word out in exasperation as I smush a decorative pillow to my face to hide the slight heat in my cheeks.
“There’s a cute boy! I knew it!” She practically yells in victory, “tell me everything, baby girl!”
I pull the pillow down enough to reveal my eyes to her, “I almost killed him with a door.” I mumble in a rather sad tone.
“Oh dear God.” She immediately becomes serious, rounding the couch to push my legs off, forcing me upright so she can sit next to me, “it can’t be that bad!”
“I wasn’t looking while I pushed open the door to the front office and he barely caught it in time before it hit him square in the face!” I blurt out in a rush and drop the pillow to cover my face with my hands. “Definitely not the way to start off on the right foot.”
“Oh honey,” she tries to sooth me, guiding my hands away from my face and into her hold, “look at it this way - you’ve captured his attention in a way that’ll be memorable. Sure it isn’t without embarrassment, but now you’ve made a first impression he’ll never forget!”
“Yeah and I’ll probably never hear the end of it.” I mumble as I bury my face in her shoulder, sighing deeply. I hesitate, “We do have one class together.”
The gasp my mother lets out immediately sends me into a fit of giggles, forgetting all about my early morning embarrassment.

Dear Diary
Summary: Jason got his hands on (y/n)s diary. Of course, nothing good can come of this... or maybe it can?
Word count: 850
Warnings: angst, but lots of fluff after
Authors note (Warning: looong Authors note):
When I was about 13 or 14, my then best friend tricked me.
She had sent me a link through a chat. It was one of those online fortune-telling sites. Ask a question about your future and I'll give you an answer.
Complete bullshit, of course, but I always found them funny. What do you do when you're 14? You ask if you have a chance with your crush, or possibly that cute guy who's always in guitar class.
What I didn't know was that on the other side, my friend was sitting with one of her friends, laughing her ass off.
They went on and on about it. I always valued my privacy. I was very shy and insecure.
When they made fun of it in front of me, my confidence and trust was broken. It has never really gotten back together since.
The whole thing still weighs on me in my mid-twenties. I never talked about it until now.
Unfortunately, my story didn't have a happy ending, but what are fanfictions for?
Tumblr media
I was sitting in the cafeteria, listlessly looking at my food.
The guys were euphorically talking about the next DnD campaign when all of a sudden Jason Carver appeared at our table.
The grin on his face did not mean anything good.
"King and Queen of Freakland."
"Get out of here ball boy." growled Eddie.
"Why so hostile? I've got some good news after all. At least you finally got a chance to get laid. The way I see it, nothing more than languishing has happened yet."
Jason pulled out a small, green book from behind his back. My book. My journal. My chest tightened so violently I should have imploded. I felt sick to my stomach. Stiff as a board, I sat there. I should have knocked it out of his hand, but I was just a useless statue.
He flipped open the book and began reading aloud so loudly that the entire cafeteria could hear.
He strolled through the rows and read out my thoughts. Thoughts I never told anyone.
"He always listens to me. Even when I'm interrupted, which is really all the time, he asks again and listens to me. For someone who likes to talk so much, he's a really good listener."
He flipped a few more pages. I wanted to dissolve.
"I wonder what his lips feel like."
Turning pages.
"His eyes are beautiful. Like chocolate or coffee. He's never been this close to me before."
He put on a stilted sugary-sweet voice.
"And for all of you wondering who it is that turned dear (y/n)'s head - You shouldn't have a crush on Eddie Munson, but of course I'm an idiot who does."
The crowd laughed and silent tears ran down my eyes. Since Jason was still the center of attention, I quickly and silently slipped outside.
I heard Jason groan painfully, but I just kept running.
Now, if I was quick, I could just sign out at the secretary's office and say I was sick. It wouldn't even be a lie. I'd be gone before anybody saw me again.
"(Y/n). (Y/N)!" shouted Eddie from behind me. I heard his shoes hit the linoleum in quick strides. "Now wait."
A hand grabbed mach my shoulder and turned me around. I tried to wriggle away, but alas, Eddie was stronger than he looked.
"Here." He held my journal out to me.
I grabbed it without looking him in the face. I quickly wiped away the tears, but I wasn't fooling anyone.
I felt small and stupid and humiliated. "Thank you.", I whispered in a broken voice.
"Don't cry over this idiot."
I shook my head and tried to turn back around, but he didn't move away from me.
"I hate it when you're miserable."
"It's okay."
"No it's not okay!" He turned my head with his big hands that I practically had to look at him. "I don't want the girl I have a crush on to feel bad. I don't want her to cry."
I looked at him out of wide eyes. What?
"You always listen to me too and you're always nice to everyone and you have beautiful eyes and you smell insanely good. Do you even know that?"
His warm eyes looked at me as gently as I've ever seen him.
"Don't listen to that idiot! He has no right to do something like that, even though he might think he does." He grew quieter and sadness was in his eyes. "I'm sorry he's going off on you like this because of me."
I shook my head. "Eddie... No... Jason goes after everyone when he can, doesn't he?"
I looked down at my feet again. "Are you serious?"
"With every word."
"It doesn't feel real."
He laughed. "Come on we're going to math. Then the harsh reality will have us back.... Besides, I need motivation to go, and it's really always you." He smiled at me. "You look cute when you think... And a little hot how quickly you solve this tangled mess of numbers." He grinned. I blushed.
"You don't have the homework, do you?"
"Well, I was thinking I could possibly copy it off you.... I'd offer you dinner for it too.... Friday at 8?"
"Are you trading math homework for a date right now?", I laughed, still tearful.
"To be honest, the date's free.... You could also kick me in the balls and it would still be standing." He grinned at me, but uncertainty was in his eyes.
"Friday at 8.", I said and pressed my assignments into his hand.
He gave me a tight squeeze. "If I hadn't just broken Jason's jaw, I'd almost have to thank him."
"You broke Jason's jaw?", I asked in shock.
"Edward Munson to the principal's office immediately!", an angry voice rang over the loudspeakers.
He sighed and handed me back my notepad.
"I'll see you around. Don't forget about me while I'm in prison.", he grinned.
Quick as a flash, he pressed a kiss to my cheek. A glow of red settled over his skin.
"See you?"
"See you."

When Bucky returns to the library in the hopes of surprising you and maybe asking you to lunch, he is not prepared for the events that follow.
He's heading straight for the circulation desk, assuming that's where you'll be, but sweet, tinkering laughter pulls his attention to the left and he promptly trips over his own feet. Your hands are on the table in front of you as you lean into it. The way your spine curves should be a crime. It makes your ass stick out in an extremely enticing manner, and Bucky may have physical strength, but mentally he is weak.
The tennis skirt that peeks out from under your pink cardigan is… tiny. Are you allowed to wear something that short to work? Surely not. Right? Like, there has to be rules against everything currently happening, to keep innocent people from imploding at such a visual.
He watches as you turn your head to muffle fresh giggles into your shoulder, the women sitting around the table, who he's just now noticed, joining in. You press your finger to your lips, trying to shush them, but your frame shakes with the effort of keeping quiet.
He’s gonna give himself an aneurysm if he keeps imagining what it'd be like to stand behind you in that position, hands possessively on your hips, perhaps with less clothes between you.
By the time he shakes the mental image from his brain, you're walking away, waving to the women at the table as they push their chairs in. You turn a corner and he hurries to follow. He's determined, goddamnit. The flirting over text after your first date the other night has been cute and all, but he couldn't wait another minute to see you.
When he takes the same turn as you, entering an aisle of tall bookshelves, he trips over his feet for a second time. You're on a stepladder, stretched onto your tip-toes as you try to put a book away. Bucky has a clear view of the swell of your ass and the baby blue lace covering it beneath your skirt.
“Did I fall and slam my head into the ground? Am I dreaming?”
His voice startles you, making you wobble precariously. He strides over to steady you. It's only after he has your hips in a tight grip that he realizes what he's done, and yet he can't seem to remove his hands.
“Bucky,” you murmur in surprise, looking over your shoulder at him. “What are you doing here?”
“Well, I wanted to ask you to lunch, but now I'm having very ungentlemanly thoughts and I think I should probably leave before I do something I’ll regret.”
Even though he says it, he makes no move to leave whatsoever.
Your small hands come to rest atop his. “Why don't you help me down, big guy?”
Bucky jolts into action, slowly guiding you off the ladder until you're on even flooring and smiling up at him, eyes twinkling in amusement. He drops his hands as he feels his ears go hot.
“Thank you.”
He nods. “You're welcome.”
You hold his stare for a moment, then tilt your head, letting out a soft giggle. He's pretty sure you're laughing at him, but he honestly couldn't care less, not if it makes you happy. He will gladly make an idiot of himself every single day if it means he gets to hear that adorable giggle.
“You're so cute,” you say with a sigh.
He blinks incredulously. “I’m cute? Have you seen yourself? You're like the CEO of Cute Patoot. You look like you mastered in Charming Everyone You Meet with a minor in Wooing Even the Crankiest of People. When you sneeze, thirty fairies get their wings. Every time you laugh you heal a blind person. Your smile could literally end wars. You—”
“Oh my god, stop,” you plead, laughing so hard you gasp for breath.
“You just gave sight to like, at least five people.”
You shove his shoulder as more laughter bubbles out of you. Bucky grins, powerless to stop himself. He's so far gone and you've only been on the one date. He's fucking screwed.
You manage to calm down, wiping at your eyes. “Didn't you mention something about lunch?” you ask.
“I did,” he confirms. “But honestly, all I wanna do now is kiss you for a little while. I could live off that for probably two days.”
You roll your eyes with a huff. “Not this again,” you mumble.
“I’m so serious.”
“I know you are, which is the absurd part of this whole situation,” you reply, shaking your head with a smile.
“How about this,” he starts, tangling his fingers with yours, “I’ll still take you to lunch, but only after I get a kiss.”
You groan playfully and it makes Bucky’s stomach tingle.
“Okay, okay, fine. One kiss.”
He refrains from clicking his heels and shouting yippee! but it's a near thing. The way you're looking at him makes him think you know anyway. Oh well. You're still leaning up to press your pouty lips against his, so who's winning?

drabble: you’re married (but in secret) | b.r.b.
It wasn’t that rooster was actively trying to hide that he was married or you, for that matter
but, it just never came up and since he was wearing his ring on a necklace instead of on his finger, it wasn’t really obvious either
So when he was at Coyote’s birthday party in Los Angeles, and you were meeting a friend there as well, the two of you decided to go together, but like, separately, y’know?
So when he was in that loud, flashy club, nursing a drink while watching Hangman trying to get Coyote laid, he nearly choked on his beer when he saw you getting dragged into the club by your friend
It was as if you felt his eyes on you, because you immediately found his eyes, throwing your head in laughter
god, you were beautiful
rooster was brought back to reality when Hangman and Coyote crashed into him, in a heated discussion
"seriously, you're the worst wingman." "I am the best wingman. It's not my fault that you're incapable of saying anything beyond a 'hey', help me out here, rooster." Hangman said, jostling rooster. "you're really bad with the ladies," rooster agreed, scanning the crowd for you again, but it seemed like you had disappeared
"rooster, man, you have literally no say in this when all you've done is sit by the bar and drink!" Coyote argued, before waving the bartender down to order himself a drink
rooster felt someone sidling up to him as he turned his eyes back to the dance floor, merely glancing to the side, doing a double take when he realized that it was you
"hey there stranger. What's someone like you doing here all by yourself?" Rooster flushed, and the beer he just took a sip of, slithered down his airway, causing him to cough violently. "Easy there, boy," you laughed, rubbing his back comfortingly, your ring sparkling in the light
"dude, she's married," hangman whispered in rooster's ear and he just shoved him away, catching his breath.
"What, uh, what are you doing here?" he asked between breaths, turning back to you.
"having fun? It's not every day I get to get away from my husband, you know," you replied, winking at hangman and coyote who gaped at the scene unfolding in front of them.
"he sounds like a drag."
"he is," you sighed, your fingers moving towards his chest and rooster felt like his head was going to implode. "you seem like so much more fun, though."
"jesus, woman," he grunted, before pulling you into a kiss.
"rooster!" hangman hissed, looking around in a panic as if he was expecting an angry husband to appear out of nowhere.
you were laughing so hard when rooster pulled away, and he put an arm around you, pulling you closer.
"Guys, this is my wife."
author's note: why was this so fun to write. Requests are open, thanks for the anon that requested these, it was really fun!

Omg- hear me out fr fr, Sex Therapist!Reader who ends up counseling -insert couple- but ends up in the middle of their sex life~
(I love this idea being used for any couples to be honest, it’s open book.)
Sensei-Venues💕✨
Made another wheel and spun for this because I'm indecisive 🙃 and we have...
Migueli!
@sensei-venus ○ idk what I did with this, but I hope this was good. (unedited)
Tumblr media
These two end up in Reader's office after things have gotten a tad bit... boring. So they're looking to spice things up but they don't know where to start. Miguel gets so embarrassed by some of her questions, like his cheeks are burning hot when she wants to know who tops the most and if they like dom/sub dynamics. Hawk is ready to volunteer all the information possible. He's talking so much, talking up some things a little more than he should.
She gives them some ideas and tells them what to try to make things a totally comfortable. She gives them a lust of places to shop for toys and other bedroom fun stuff. She asks Miguel if he's ever thought about being tied up and he feels like he's going to implode.
The more they come back to Reader, the closer they get to her. She gives them plenty of ideas and tips. They ask her questions about whether she has any experience with the things she's suggesting to them. She assures them she knows what she's talking about. They ask her about kinks and she just smirks at them. "This is about you two, not me."
The first few sessions are just talking, but then things get physical when she wants to see how they interact with each other in bed. She guides them and touches them when need be, but for thenmost part they are good. It's all professional, that's what they tell themselves, but as time goes on, her touches linger. Her voice drops to a sexy whisper at times. She holds their dicks as they thrust into her hand, rubbing against each other so hotly. The guys eventually find themselves at home, fucking and talking about Reader and how sexy she is.
It's when Miguel and Eli suggest inviting a third person into the bedroom is when Reader finds herself between them.
It starts off as her showing them the different positions they can take. All their clothes are still on and she's flipping through her little book of sex positions to show them what she's talking about, but they ask for a physical demonstration. They go through a few positions - spit roasting, one laid under her while the other stands over them, her on her knees with one behind her and the other in front of her - until they're all on their knees and she's sandwiched between their hard, muscled chests. One is holding her hips while the other has her waist.
"Wbat would you like in this position?" Hawk asks from behind her.
She clears her throat and hums. "Well... I've always wanted to be double stuffed..."
Before she knows it, both of their cocks are stuffed in her cunt, stretching out her fat pussy. When one pushes in, the other is pulling out, then he pushes in and the other pulls out. They roughly fuck her while rubbing against each other in her tight velvet walls. Hawk's really going at it, hips smacking into her fat ass with each thrust, while Miguel is lost in her big tits, practically suffocating in them as they push and pull her back and forth on their cocks.
Hawk asks her about their technique and she moans with approval. "Perfect, just like that. Pleasure each other while using my cunt."
Miguel moans and tries to pull away from her tuts, but she wraps her arms around his head and pulls him back. He latches onto her nipple in the process and sucks aggressively, all his inhibitions long gone as he leaves her tits covered in hickeys and her nipples wet and puffy.
She's so lost in the pleasure, a little drool even dripping down her chin and onto her chest. Hawk squeezes her hips, holding them hard enough thay she knows they'll bruise, but she doesn't care. She dizzy with each of their hard thrusts, but she knows she'll be scheduling them for another appointment very very soon.

A Night To Forget
Note - would love to hear what you guys think 💙
Pairing - Mason Mount x Reader
Word count - 4.3k
Warnings - angst and fluff
Tumblr media
End of the season meant only one thing to you, and that was having Mason around more than you’d had before. You’d been together just under 8 months and you were used to his routine of being here there and everywhere so you were excited to have him around as much as you could.
The first week of the break he’d whisked you off to Mauritius for a romantic getaway. It was the first proper holiday you’d had together and it was absolute bliss. The trip confirmed in your head that Mason was it for you and you couldn’t wait to get home and properly start your lives together.
Due to train strikes back home, you’d agreed to move in with him for a few weeks once you were back so you could still see him, whilst working from his house as you now had no way to get to your office. Mason seemed more excited than you’d ever seen him before, telling you it was a test run before he’d ask you to fully move in with him soon.
You’d be there for two weeks in total, before the two of you were off again on another break with his whole family. The thought of it terrified you, having not spent that much time around them in such close proximity before but Mason reassured you that it would be fine and they loved you like he did.
‘So I thought you could work in here?’ Mason announced, opening the door to his study. It was spacious, with a big desk and a window that looked out onto his drive. The opposite wall was also completely glass meaning you didn’t feel shut out or locked away. ‘Since I can see in I can check you’re actually working’ he winked, hugging you from behind and kissing your cheek. ‘What do you think?’
‘It’s perfect, Mase. Thank you. Are you sure it’s alright?’
‘Of course it is, I’m barely ever in her so you might as well make use of it’ he told you, spinning you around gently before placing a loving kiss on your lips. ‘You don’t have to stay in here though, if you wanna work wherever you’re comfortable that’s fine with me’
‘Yeah?’
‘Of course. mi casa es su casa’ he chuckled and you buried your head in his chest at his goofiness. ‘I mean it, do whatever you feel comfortable with’
‘Thank you, Mason’
‘Wanna give me a proper thank you upstairs?’ He murmured, wiggling his eyebrows whilst ticking your sides and you couldn’t help but give into him.
You weren’t nervous at all about taking this new step with Mason, getting to do life with him everyday and be with him as much as you could. Mason was your best friend above anything else and he made life seem like being together was one big sleep over. If only the outside stresses weren’t getting to you as much as they were then you might of been able to enjoy it a bit more.
You had a week and a half to prepare for the most important presentation of your life and being around Mason wasn’t as easy as you thought it would be. He didn’t have as many plans as you thought he did so if he wasn’t on Xbox, he was constantly checking in to see if you needed anything or showering you with kisses and cuddles.
You didn’t mind at first, thankful for the distractions but as the deadline loomed you were becoming increasingly stressed. You didn’t want to make Mason feel bad though, having opened up his home to you, so you tried to hide the tension inside in hopes you’d be out the other side soon. You knew it was just your workload and the pressure of being away with his family soon making you implode but you didn’t want to upset Mason in any way.
For a change of scenery, you were working in the living room, your laptop propped up on the arm of the sofa and you were so focused you didn’t even realise Mason was in the same room as you until you felt his head flop into your lap. You felt frustration bubble up instantly and you took a breath before he started speaking.
‘What you working on, gorgeous?’
‘I’ve got a big presentation to give in a few days, I’m just putting the power point together’ you told him and you knew you sounded a little short with him but you had no time to think about that right now, not when you were finally on a roll and didn’t want to be interrupted.
‘What’s it about?’
You didn’t have time to go into it and you were becoming increasingly infuriated with him. You knew he meant well but you felt strangled by his constant presence at the most inconvenient times.
‘I’ll tell you later Mase, I need to run I’ve got a call in a minute’ you lied, pushing his head out of your lap gently and scurrying off back upstairs for you fake call. On the off chance he might follow you, you quickly called your colleague for a catch up and not two minutes into the call you saw mason passing by the study, waving at you to catch your attention. You pointed at the headset to let him know you were talking and he hit his head lightly as if to make out he’d forgotten before walking out of your sight.
That’s how the next few days carried on, you trying to work and Mason being a distraction. As soon as he saw you he was all over you, smothering you in kisses that you’d usually love but at the moment you needed a break from him and his antics.
The day before your presentation you nerves were at an all time high. You were a bit behind where you wanted to be but thankfully for you, Mason had been out all day at a shoot so you’d had some time to catch up. It was around half four when you heard the front door open and you tensed up immediately.
‘Hello baby’ you heard him bellow down the hall ‘you upstairs?’
‘In here’ you called meekly, and you soon heard him walking into the living room where you were in a similar position to a few days before.
‘Hey you’ he smiled as soon as he saw you, leaning over the back of the sofa to give you a quick kiss on the cheek.
‘Hey’ you breathed, not wanting to loose focus but you knew you sounded cold.
‘Still working away?’
‘Yep’
‘You almost done? It’s tomorrow morning right?’ He asked and you just nodded, highlighting the last section of text you needed to copy over onto the last slide. ‘Well I hope you’re not worried about it, I know you’ll be fine’ he told you, and you could hear his voice coming back closer to you. ‘Are you listening to me’ he joked, grabbing your shoulders as if to give you a massage however it caused your hand to slip and the section of text you’d highlighted to disappear.
‘Oh for fucks sake, Mase’ you shouted, and his hands were off you in an instant.
‘What? What’s wrong?’
‘You jogged my arm and that whole slides been deleted now’ you huffed, furiously pressing buttons to try and get it back but nothing seemed to be working. ‘Why do you have to keep touching me all the time?’ you shouted, standing up and catching sight of him standing there looking timid and shocked.
‘I didn’t mean it. I just-‘
‘No Mason, you’ve just added another half hours work onto my already massive pile. I swear I can’t get five minutes peace from you at the moment, you’re suffocating me’ you yelled, cutting him off before storming into the kitchen and out the way of him, afraid of what else you might say.
He didn’t try and follow you, and moments later you heard the front door shut. Your head fell into your hands, instantly regretting the way you’d spoken to him. You groaned before running to the door to stop him, but you were too late, his car already turning off the drive and out of your sight. You ran inside to send him a quick text, apologising and asking him to let you know where he was going. You waited five minutes for a reply but when it never came you shuffled off back to your laptop so you could rewrite the whole section you’d deleted.
Your focus was off the whole time, feeling worse and worse as the minutes went on about how you’d spoken to Mason, but you knew you had to finish this first. Hoping to give Mason enough time to cool down and come back to you. After another hour and a half you were finally finished, happy with what you’d produced before you saved it and shut your laptop down.
Mason still wasn’t home, and you pulled out your phone only to see he’d made no attempts to get in contact with you. It didn’t even look like he’d read your text so you bit the bullet and called him. The phone rung until you managed to get through to voicemail but you decided against leaving one.
Your mind was reeling with options of where he might be, but you had no idea. In the end you sent a quick text to Ben in hopes he would be there, but when he replied saying he hadn’t seen him you felt deflated. You thought it would be best to leave him for a little while longer but your mind was constantly thinking of where he was.
You made a quick dinner, making sure to save some for Mason and then took a shower before getting ready for bed. Mason was still ignoring you and the sadness you were feeling in your belly was becoming overwhelming. You tried to call him again, but it went through to answerphone. You decided to leave one this time, hoping you could convince him to talk to you.
‘Hi Mase, it’s me. Can you please let me know you’re alright? I’m going out of my mind worrying here. Please just text me or come home. I don’t want us go to bed upset… can you please just talk to me. I’m really sorry, Mase.’ You sniffed before hanging the phone up, tears now cascading down your face as you struggled to keep your sobs at bay.
You left your phone on the side before getting under the covers, although you were wide awake with nerves about tomorrow and worry for Mason. You’d been sat in your thoughts for just over ten minutes when you saw your phone light up besides you. You grabbed it as quickly as you could and your heart began to race as you saw a text had come through from Mason.
I’m fine, don’t worry. I’ll be home soon
As much as the text settled you, it also made you sad. There was no kiss on the end like usual and the use of the word soon was no use to you as that could be anytime. You still also didn’t know where he was but at least you had something. You quickly replied, telling him you’d see him soon but you never received anything back.
You settled down again, your eyes shutting so you could relax for when he got home, but you’d fallen asleep before that happened. You tossed and turned all night, drifting in and out of consciousness and constantly checking the time. When it got to 2am and he still wasn’t in bed you chanced a look outside to find his car was back and parked up so he was obviously home, he just hadn’t made it up to bed yet.
You let out a relived sigh, debating on weather to go and find him but in the end you got back into bed knowing he would be in soon.
The next thing you knew, your alarm was ringing in your ear after what felt like two seconds of sleep. You sighed, reaching over to turn it off, thinking you must of set it for the wrong time. When it showed it was time for you to get up you sat in confusion for a few seconds, looking to your side to see Masons side still untouched and the sadness washed over you again.
You didn’t have time to think about that right now, getting ready for work for your presentation in half an hour as you’d have to look presentable from the waist up.
Once you were ready, you got comfortable in the study and opened everything up so you were prepared to start. You were just greeting everyone as they joined the call when you saw the door to the guest room across the hall open and Mason appear.
His hair was a mess, the creases from the pillow pressed into his cheek and you’d never seen him look so sad. Your eyes met for a brief second before he looked away and walked in the direction of the stairs. You wanted to jump out of your chair and run after him but the sound of your boss calling your name bought you back to reality.
‘Hi sorry, yeah I’m ready to go whenever everyone else is’ you smiled, putting on a brave face to get through the next hour and a half.
Twenty minutes in you heard the front door go and Masons car start. You heart sunk and you stuttered over your words as you willed the tears to stay in your eyes. You recovered quickly and carried on talking but Masons sad face was at the forefront of your mind for the next hour and a bit whilst you gave your presentation. When you were done and all the questions were over, everyone thanked you and left the call, leaving just yourself and your boss on the phone.
‘Good work y/n, you really nailed that’ he smiled at you, and you felt relief wash over you that it was now over. ‘Have the rest of the day off, I think you deserve it’ he told you and after a quick chat, you were closing your laptop and relaxing into the chair.
Reaching for your phone, you flipped it over to see Mason had sent you message two hours ago when he’d left the house.
I’ll be home around 3. Good luck today x
You eyes filled with fresh tears as you read over his message, seeing you had just under three hours until he was home. Now with work finished, you got changed into something a bit more comfortable before tidying all your things away.
You thought it might be nice to make Mason his favourite dinner as a treat and to apologise so you headed to the kitchen and began chopping everything you needed whilst rehearsing what you wanted to say to him and praying that he would forgive you.
Once everything was prepared, you took a seat on the sofa, hoping to distract yourself a little bit before he got home. The tiredness took over you instantly and your lack of sleep from the night before meant you were suddenly passed out, only waking up when you felt someone’s cold fingertips on your forehead.
Your eyes snapped awake, looking straight into Masons. Your breath caught in your throat as you sat up and he took the seat next to you, unsure of what day it was and what was going on.
‘What time is it?’ You asked him quietly and he looked down to his hands as he spoke.
‘Just after three’ he murmured and you nodded at him. ‘Shouldn’t you still be working?’
‘Got given the afternoon off’
‘Did it go alright this morning?’ He asked, finally looking at you and the sadness’s in his face broke your heart all over again. You felt your eyes glaze over as you nodded, scared your voice might fail you if you tried to speak. He gave you a half smile ‘told you it’d be fine’ he whispered and you dropped your head as the tears spilled from your eyes.
‘I’m so sorry Mase’ you stuttered, covering your face with your hands to hide your tears. You heard him sigh besides you before he gently wrapped his arms around your body, pulling you into his chest.
‘It’s okay’
‘It’s not, I didn’t mean it’
‘It’s fine if you did’
‘No I didn’t I promise. I’ve just been so stressed about that bloody presentation, and then thinking about next week with your family. I know it’ll be fine but it’s a lot of pressure. I just shut down and didn’t know how to handle it’ you hiccuped, and he rubbed his hand up and down your back soothingly. ‘But that’s not an excuse to speak to you like I did, I’m so sorry, Mase. I’d hate for you to think that I actually think that about you’
‘No, you were right’ he sighed and you went to interrupt but he shook his head to stop you. ‘You were working and I should of left you too it. I don’t know I just love having you around and I guess I got so excited you were here I just wanted to be with you all the time but I should of respected that you were working and given you some space’
‘I don’t want you to think I don’t want you around though. Or that I don’t like you touching me cause I do.’
‘I don’t think that’
‘Are you sure?
‘Positive’ he smiled and you rested your head in his neck, breathing in his scent as you’d missed him. ‘It’s a big step you know? Spending all this time together. There’s bound to be teething problems but I know next time there’s an issue we can sort it out a lot better. I know I’m a lot sometimes and I find it hard to keep my hands off you but I should of respected your boundaries. And I shouldn’t of just left yesterday and not come back. I know I can be stubborn.’
‘I hurt you Mase, I understand why you went’
‘I know but I should of at least let you know where I was, that wasn’t very mature of me’
‘Where did you go?’ You asked, lifting your head so you could look at him. He blushed a little bit and looked away before telling you.
‘I was at Bens’ he admitted and you gave him playful scowl. ‘I told him not to tell you I was there’
‘Mason…’
‘I know, I know’ he groaned, pulling you a little bit closer and he burrowed his head in your shoulder.
‘What about today?’
‘I was at the gym, thought a run and some time to think would be good’ he explained ‘I’m sorry, I realise how childish it was now. And if you’d of done the same I would of hunted you down and dragged you back’ he teased ‘I wasn’t thinking straight and I see how stupid I was now’
‘I thought I’d lost you, when you didn’t come home. I hated being here without you, I was worried sick’
‘No matter what happens, I’ll always come back to you’ he whispered pressing his lips to your forehead. ‘I promise’
‘You wait till I see Ben next, he’s gonna get a earful’
‘Don’t be mad at him, it’s may fault’ he told you, kissing your shoulder gently, and you smiled at the little bit of contact.
‘Have I ruined my chances of me moving in now’ you laughed, wiping your eyes and he chuckled next to you.
‘Not at all, forgetting the last 24 hours, I’ve loved having you here’ he smiled, tucking your hair behind your ear and smiling at you softly. ‘I love waking up next to you, I love getting to fall asleep with you every night, I love how you keep me in check and look after me. It’s normal to have an argument here or there and considering this is our first I think we’re doing okay’ he reassured you, and you felt yourself settle at his words. ‘You do still wanna move in with me right?’
‘Of course’ you laughed, linking your fingers through his as you both smiled.
‘Well how about after we get back from holiday we start moving your stuff in?
‘You want me here that soon?’
‘I’ve wanted you here for months. One little tiff isn’t gonna change that. If you wanna wait then we can but I’m ready to start our life together’ he proclaimed ‘If anything, yesterday just made me want you here more in a weird way. Once I’d figured my shit out earlier, I couldn’t wait to come home cause I knew you’d be here’ he smiled and you couldn’t help but smile back.
‘Can I ask one more thing?’ You murmured, and he nodded at you with slightly furrowed brows as he was unsure what you were about to say. ‘Why didn’t you come to bed last night?’ Your voice slightly shakey as you dropped your head. ‘I know things weren’t great but I hated going to sleep without you’
You heard him sigh as he tugged you a little closer, resting his head on top of yours as his arms circled you again. ‘I was going to, I came up to check on you when I got in but you were sound asleep and I didn’t want to disturb you. I know how important this morning was to you and I’d already messed it up so I thought it best if I just keep away for a little bit longer’ he told you and you nodded into his neck. ‘I promise you, tonight I’m not going anywhere’ he whispered and you pulled back to look at him, both your faces softening as you saw how apologetic the other was. ‘Can I kiss you now? It should be illegal to go this long without your lips on mine’ he joked and you laughed whilst nodding your head.
His hands gently cupped your jaw and he wasted no time before pressing his lips to yours. He kept it soft, slowly caressing his lips against yours as he tried to show you how much he missed you. He pulled back earlier than you’d of liked and he giggled at your pout as he pressed his forehead against yours.
‘Love you’ he whispered and you felt your whole body erupt in goosebumps, feeling just as special now as when he told you the first time.
‘Love you too’ you said back before kissing him again, a bit more forceful this time and you felt him hum into your mouth.
‘What’s for dinner?’ He asked with a cheeky smile when the two of you finally pulled away. You rolled your eyes in mock annoyance as you crossed your arms in a huff.
‘Well I was planning on making your favourite but now I know you made Ben lie for you I might make you eat what I saved you yesterday’
‘You saved me a dinner yesterday?’ He laughed, uncrossing your arms so he could pull you in to him. ‘You’re so bloody cute’ he whispered, kissing your cheek.
‘I didn’t want you coming home hungry’ you pouted as he kissed all over your face. You couldn’t deny you were loving all the attention he was showering you with, having missed his touch for the past day.
‘How about, I make dinner and after that I’ll run you a nice bath? It’s been a tense few days and you deserve some time to yourself’
‘I’ve been by myself for the last day, Mase’ you laughed, standing from the sofa and pulling him up with you. ‘I’ve prepped most of dinner so we can finish it off together then maybe we can have a bath together? You can tell me all about your mysterious adventure that you’ve been on’ you teased as his hands circled you waist.
‘Sounds good’ he laughed whilst kissing your temple. ‘Maybe you can tell me all about your presentation too, you never did tell me what it was about’ he teased making you nestle into him. ‘But in future, if I’m being too much, please just tell me to piss off. I promise I won’t be offended’
‘I will. And if I shut off and start being a big meanie, just tell me to relax. I get all up in my head about these things and I don’t realise how awful I’m being until it’s too late’
‘You weren’t too awful’ he winked ‘I’m kind of glad this happened, at least we know we need to communicate a bit better and we can work on that. Plus we’ve got all next week to relax and make up for lost time’ he told you with a playful pinch of your bum.
‘It one was night Mase’ you laughed as he nuzzled his face into your hair. ‘Plus your family will be around’
‘Doesn’t mean I won’t be on you 24/7’ he laughed, slowly letting go of you and walking into the kitchen to start dinner. You stood for a second, letting out a big sigh of relief that you’d managed to talk out your issues and were now back on track. You saw his head pop back to look at you, his hand extended for you to take as he nodded over you the kitchen. ‘Come on you, don’t think you’re getting out of making my dinner that easy’ he quipped and you laughed as you took his hand, feeling happier than you had for days.
