Parker Posey in Fay Grim (Hal Hartley, 2006)
Cast: Parker Posey, James Urbaniak, Liam Aiken, Jeff Goldblum, Chuck Montgomery, Leo Fitzpatrick, Saffron Burrows, Jasmine Tabatabai, Elina Löwensohn, Thomas Jay Ryan, Anatole Taubman. Screenplay: Hal Hartley. Cinematography: Sarah Cawley. Production design: Richard Sylvarnes. Film editing: Hal Hartley. Music: Hal Hartley.
Fay Grim (Parker Posey) is having a bad day: Her husband is missing, her brother is in prison, and her son is about to be kicked out of school. Soon this will look like one of the better days. Fay Grim is another of Hal Hartley's ventures into subverting a genre, particularly the espionage thriller. But it's also filtered through another genre, one you might call "the Sandra Bullock movie." At least I call it that because it brought to mind the last Sandra Bullock movie I saw, The Lost City (Adam Nee, Aaron Nee, 2022), in which she plays a woman who gets swept up into an unexpected adventure. Bullock is not the only actress who lands in that kind of film, but she's been the prototypical heroine of them since her breakthrough movie, Speed (Jan de Bont, 1994). In Fay Grim Posey fits the part as well as or even better than Bullock. It's nominally a sequel to Henry Fool (1997), in which Hal Hartley introduced us to Fay, her brother, Simon (James Urbaniak), and the enigmatic Henry Fool (Thomas Jay Ryan). All you need to know from that film is that Fay and Henry had a son, Ned (Liam Aiken), and that Simon went to prison because he helped Henry flee the country to avoid a murder rap. Now, an Agent Fulbright (Jeff Goldblum) from the CIA is suddenly in touch with Fay to see if she knows the whereabouts of the notebooks Henry kept. He claimed to be writing a sort of confessional novel that publishers had told him was unpublishable. Henry is dead, Fulbright tells her, but the notebooks may have significance no one has previously suspected. And so begins an elaborate chase that takes Fay to Paris and Istanbul, and involves Simon (whom she gets sprung from prison) and Ned (who receives a mysterious clue in the mail), as well as a lot of intelligence agents and terrorists from all over Europe and the Middle East. Fay Grim becomes as intrepid as Jason Bourne or James Bond in the process. Posey's performance holds it all together and makes me wonder why she's not as big a star as Bullock. It's fun to see some of these characters again, but by wading so deeply into spy spoof territory Hartley has lost the control that made Henry Fool such a fresh new start for his career, and some of his recently acquired mannerisms -- like the tilted camera, the so-called "Dutch angle" -- are tiresome.

NED RIFLE- 2014 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The third and final part of director Hal Hartleys Henry Fool Trilogy....
And its by far my favourite of the three.
Ned Rifle, the son of Henry Fool and Fay Grim is now grown up. Despite being deeply religious Ned sets out to kill Henry for ruining Fays life.
He starts by meeting up with Fays brother Simon who is trying to reinvent himself as a standup comedian.
"Am i not funny?"
This was a hilarious direction to go with Simon, he has been at points in Henry Fool and Fay Grim, quite uninteresting to me, but he really had me laughing, his comedy coach paid off.
While at Simons hotel, Ned meets Susan (Aubrey Plaza) who asks him to introduce her to Simon (shes his biggest fan and wants him to read a paper she wrote on him). We soon find out she has much deeper ties to there family and a secret plan of her own. Susan and Ned travel the country together searching for the infamous Henry Fool....
Very rare to have the third part of a trilogy be the best one but i think this really is. Its so much fun from start to finish, has a quick runtime and doesnt outstay its welcome.
Aubrey Plaza was excellent as Susan, she fits perfectly into this world, and had a really interesting backstory. Loved her in this. Her and Ned are the main focus of the film, with Simon and Fay in smaller roles and Henry having a big role only towards the end of the movie.
The running joke where Henry keeps seeing things as one of the side effects of the medical trial absolutely killed me every time it happened.
Love the tone of this film, an interesting combination of whacky comedy and drama.
Writer and director Hal Hartley describes these movies as "some kind of parallel neighborhood where I work out how the world feels to me"
The budget was around 400,000 dollars.
And Ned Rifle is also the next stop on PARKER POSEY PALOOZA!!!
Parker plays the previously mentioned Fay Grim who is now serving life in prison for treason. She only appears in a few scenes in the movie (she shot all her scenes in one day). Usually, id complain about her lack of screen time but i think she was used very well in the time we saw her. However, having Parker Posey and Aubrey Plaza in the same movie and not giving them a scene together is absolutely criminal. Theyre characters did interact before the movie though, (Susan is the ghostwriter for Fays biography).

HAL HARTLEY Henry Fool
FAY Have a drink.
FAY Do you find me attractive?
HENRY Yes.
FAY I look young for my age, don't I?
HENRY How old are you?
FAY How old do you think I am?
HENRY You look … young.
FAY How young?
HENRY I don't know. Young.
FAY But how young? Do I look more like 20 or, you know, 30?
HENRY Thirty.
FAY Listen, you geek. After a couple of drinks, plenty of people mistake me for 18.

The Twisted Wonderland OC (Yuu)niverse Writing Challenge
In the past, I've written plenty of AU stories and a few have featured cameo OCs. These OC were temporary characters but I'd like to introduce more standard characters to do cameos. So to my followers, I'd like to give you a chance to submit your own characters based on a list of obscure or lesser-known stories or characters that we haven't considered.
The Rules:
The list is first come first serve but chose wisely. Don't rush because you might not be happy with the results.
You can call dibs on 1 prompt on the list but you have to finish within a timely manner (24 hours) before the prompt is available again to everyone. I will update this post everytime a prompt is taken or open.
After a prompt is completed the character's name will appear as a new tag in any future works they appear in.
Be as creative as possible, no self-inserts. That would be against the spirit of being as creative as possible. I want you to think outside the box (so I have more to write about them)
Don't be mean. If a prompt is taken and someone does it anyway I discuss giving them their own prompt or letting them make their own if they like. We must be welcoming. This is for fun.
If you have questions don't be afraid to ask.
Your template must be completed in full with character info like appearance description added. You don't have to do the art but it would be appreciated.
Submit by reblogging your finished templet and profile so that it's visible.
Template: (credit goes to the original creator @yxmechii)

ok so many wanted to see ballerina mc sooo here's what i think it would be like for them
fem!mc, this isn't a mc x char or reader x char, im not a dancer but my mom did send me to a ballet thingy when i was really young so i kinda know whats it like- dont come after me :( mc was famous back when she was in her world
Ballerina!MC who back in her world was very famous, now finally getting some rest from the popularity so she keeps it a secret. everything is like it would be in the story but some interactions are a bit different. like if she was sent into twst in her ballet dress in full so that and the school's outfit are the only clothes she has in her dresser, so one day Grim or Ace or Deuce just randomly see that and are like- ?????
She tells them and the convo just gets to: "then why dont you just do shows so you could get money?" "yeah that way we can buy tons of tuna cans!" and mc just looks at them with the most straight face ever and says- "no." just no, and not other explanation.
I think that at some point Azul or the twins just learn about this too and for getting more customers they try to get her to work for them but since she doesn't want fo get popular again she says no over and over again.
And I also think the during book 5 Epel would also learn about this, one way or another, but he'd try his best to keep it a secret bc he knows that Vil will be supeeer annoying about mc to gey back to dancing, especially for the VDC. Perhaps Rook also learns about it but for a while keeps it a secert but he will talk to her about it, not to push her for a public appearance, but for himself to, as he says, "watch you at your outmost beauté! "
I also like to think that after Vil overblots he does somehow learn mc was a famous ballerina but he doesn't force them to get back out there, bc unlike what most of the others who thought that Vil will force her to get back to what she did back in her own world, he doesn't. He knows the struggle of popularity and such, although he does indeed think that completely stopping is a waste of talent.
Now, still in book 5 i like to think that mc would try to help Ace, Deuce and Grim to dance better and when Jamil and Kalim see this they think 'damn she's really good' but only Kalim pushes mc to talk more about how she knows all of this (not in a mean way) cuz Kalim says "you! are! so! good! You should be a national dancer!!! I can help you in fai-" and then Jamil just shuts him up bc he sees it in her eyes that she feels really uncomfy talking about this.
Alsoooo I think that Ballerina!MC doesn't hate dancing and doing ballet - Im not saying she dislikes it, the opposite is true- yet the pressure was just a lot that's all, so she dances in Ramadhakle so when Malleus walks around at night and on the day these two meet he sees her dancing away and he is so impressed! The way she moves! The way she shows her true emotions by dance! It truly captivated him! So now he wants to see her dance more.
that's all really 😭 i dont think that anyone in savanaclaw really care?? maybeee Jack???? cuz sport and all- but thats it :/ i dont know much about silver, sebek and lilia for me to write them :(

FAY GRIM- 2006 ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Tumblr media
PARKER POSEY PALOOZA continutes with this months entry: Fay Grim written and directed by Hal Hartley. It is a sequel to his 1997 film "Henry Fool" and the middle part of the Henry Fool trilogy....
This is one of the most unexpected directions ive seen a sequel take. In the years since the first movie, Fays brother Simon has been imprisoned and Henry Fool was reported to be dead. His awful book from the first movie is thought to be a secret code to government secrets that most countries in the world seem to want to get there hands on. I thought that was very funny.
Fay is coerced into flying to Europe to try and get them back in exchange for them releasing Simon from jail. Basically the whole movie is about spies and espionage and her getting in way above her head.
As for the premise of the movie, i thought it was a brilliant idea. Very original and daring. The execution of it was mixed. The points where it leaned into comedy were more successful then the points where it tried to be serious.
Parker Posey was fantastic (obviously), and was great to see her in a completely different setting. She was very funny and liked the ways her character had changed from the first. And her hair was pretty cool aswell, look at these locks!
Tumblr media
Overall, i enjoyed this to Henry Fool and will look forward to watching "Ned Rifle".

Oh I love this. The dramatic poses as they all face the final plotline together. The overlapping statements from Yuuko and Evil Wolverine simultaneously announcing The Final Encounter. The black and white colouring giving them all a shared colour scheme - with Fai in with with black accents, Kurogane in black with white accents, and Lava Lamp wearing both.
I particularly love Fai's expression here. We don't see him with such grim determination on display very often, but if there was ever a time for it, this would be it!
DON’T WORRY I’M SURE EVERYTHING WILL BE FINE
WHAT’S THE WORST THAT COULD HAPPEN?
