do you guys have a favorite problematic fanfic trope? because i have a favorite problematic fanfic trope.

the fuck or die scenario will never not be boring. but this only works if both characters have an existing budding relationship with each other (not platonic or paternal).

just imagine two heroes/protagonists who dance around the fact that they have feelings for eachother are suddenly captured by villains/antagonists. they are forced in a tight, enclosed space together with the promise of freedom only if they have sex. of course, the first instinct is fuck no?? but soon they realize that unless they’re ready to die at the hands of their captors, they must put on a show. so slowly they engage, apologizing to one another profusely all the while and it’s just the saddest thing; their first time, something that should have been sexy and comfortable and satisfying was the total opposite. but hey, at least they’re suffering together.

+bonus points if the fic includes an emotional aftermath where both muses find freedom and are left scrambling to cope with the trauma that they experienced. they’re the only ones who understand what one another went through, and through therapy they heal and start a new chapter together.

why is the found family trope so underrated. I don't want to see 'em kissing someone I want to see them cry in the arms of their first ever father figure mentor who is the only one who understands their pain. So one trope in spirk fanfiction (haven’t checked with other pairings tbh) is Kirk agreeing ahead of time to help with Spock’s next (or first if it’s aos) pon farr

Yet, what a lot of those fics don’t have is those two getting a preliminary bond, which you think they would cause isn’t that pretty much the whole purpose of those bonds “hey unless something changes I’m willing to help with your pon farr” ?

So I was thinking about that and now I’m just laughing at it being a slippery slope

Kirk: Don’t worry about it, Spock, I’ll help out

Spock: Then we’ll need a preliminary bond

Kirk: Okay

Spock: Which many Humans view as an engagement

Kirk: Okay?

Spock: So out of respect for you, I will procure us some rings

Kirk: …You don’t have t-

Spock: To make sure you are absolutely safe, however, I think a full bond would be more logical

Kirk: Okay??

Spock: So of course, we must be married, I will send out the invites

there’s something so comforting about early game dutch and hosea

i don’t know what it is. maybe it’s my own issues, or just the fact that the found family trope is one of my absolute favorite tropes in the world, but dutch and hosea are so father coded it makes me so happy

the fact that these two men found all these kids, adopted them into the group, raised them just because they needed family; it warms my heart so much

hosea is the comforting parent. you hurt yourself as a kid, something goes wrong in your life, you experience heartbreak for the first time…hosea is your shoulder to cry on. he comforts you, says all the right words to make you feel better. hosea offers quiet and soft words of affirmation, a warm embrace, and maybe a nice cup of tea (that he snuck a nip of spirits in)

dutch is the advice parent. the solution parent. you have an issue that needs solving, dutch is the one that gives you the guidance and direction. he helps you by telling you stories from his own life, and ultimately what he would do or wouldn’t do. he tries to push you in the right direction, but won’t stop you if he knows that there’s a lesson you need to learn the hard way.

both parents love you and want what’s best for you, and really strive for anything they can offer you (which isn’t much). they’ve always just wanted better for you than what they had.

i love early game dutch and hosea. i love them so much.

Heartbeat tropes I just love 💓

🫀 A character expressing their love by letting their love interest feel / hear their heartbeat, or just know how fast their heart beats for them.

🫀 Cold stethoscope chestpieces. I know nowadays most steths have no-chill rims, but to me there's something oddly hot about a character shivering because the chestpiece feels cold against their skin.

🫀 After-sex ear-stething cuddles. Need to say more?

🫀 Vampires and other supernatural creatures being able to hear heartbeats without having their ears touch the chest.

🫀 A character who's hooked to a heart monitor having a racing heartbeat (excluding actual medical emergencies).

🫀 When one character feels / listens to another's heartbeat and comments on how fast it's beating or how nice it feels.

🫀 A character comforting an anxious or sad friend / love interest by letting them listen to their heartbeat.
