Christine “Chrissy” Cunningham is a senior at Hawkin’s High, and her life is falling apart. Her mother controls every second of her life, and her father turns a blind eye to it all. She’s known as the “Queen” of Hawkin’s High, but it’s all a facade. She has to look perfect at all times. Be the star student, be the best cheerleader, be the model girlfriend... and she’s so sick of it all.
One night as she lay in bed, her stomach rumbling from a lack of food (because the scornful look her mother gave her at dinner made her push her plate away), she realizes she would rather be anywhere else. She notices the book “The Labyrinth” on her shelf. It was a favorite of hers as a child, where the heroine goes on a great adventure and saves the world. Chrissy wished for meaning like that in her life. She felt like a ghost. Barely there as she went through the routine of life. A routine she didn’t pick for herself. She wondered if anyone knew the real her, and she concludes: No. Did she even know herself? As she fell asleep, she utters the words: “I wish the Goblin King would take me away from here.”
Edouard “Eddie” Munson is the Goblin King of the Underground, a place where all kinds of creatures live under his rule in the Labyrinth. Despite having an entire Kingdom at his fingertips, and all the power in the world, he is quite lonely. He often travels around the human world as an owl, flying across the land looking for lost souls. It gave him a sense of connection, knowing he wasn’t the only one struggling.
One night he feels drawn to a girl with strawberry blonde hair and big grey eyes. On the outside she appears perfectly content and put together, but he could feel the turmoil within her. He ends up choosing to stick around, sitting in a tree outside her window. He wonders if there were a way he could help her, and then his prayers are answered. To his surprise, she requests to be taken away by him, and he cannot deny a lovely lady what she wants. He would take her far, far away from here.
This AU idea came to me after I realized how much Eddie and Chrissy could fit into the roles of Sarah and Jareth. Eddie as an 19/20 year old (can be immortal or not), eccentric rocker Goblin King and Chrissy as a 17/18 year old high schooler who is struggling with herself, and the life she’s living. Chrissy going from being known as the “Queen” of Hawkins High to being the actual Queen of the Goblins would be poetic cinema.
How cute is it that Labyrinth came out in 1986 (their year!). In another life, Chrissy lived, and her and Eddie saw it in theaters together. <3
Also, imagine Eddie singing songs like this to Chrissy (I like to think Eddie would sound like Kings of Leon when he’s singing).
Someone please take this idea and run with it, whether it be fanfic, fan art, etc. I will love you forever if you do.
Note - Those of you who were reading the original crossover, this is the new idea I reworked and came to enjoy much more, so please indulge in letting me know if you enjoy this version much more.
Summary: Jareth has complete control over his realm, until an unexpected turn of events throws him for a loop. In order to retain his spot on the throne he must secure a bride and in his venture to the human realm he discovers you, but you have already been swept off your feet by someone else. Jareth plans to change that and Eddie has to defend his love.
Please enjoy! Let me know if you wished to be tagged as well.
The drive was quiet save for the soft humming of Black Sabbath from the old radio in Eddie's van. He interrupts reaching over to cut the music off, "How old is your grandmother exactly?" Eddie asks, taking his focus off the road briefly to glance over at you. He watches you shift in the leather seat and then takes his gaze back to the road.
"She's sixty, Eds." You reply with a smile, tilting your head over towards Eddie. He hums, thumbs tapping on the worn leather of the steering wheel rings clanking together. Eddie was one of the most notorious fidgeters, biting his nails, fiddling with his rings, tapping, knee bouncing and blank stares. "You don't need to worry so much. She'll like you."
Eddie shakes his head eyes focused in on the road, "Baby its.. its not that. She's like the only relative you know of that is still alive. What if she's not up to meeting us." He shrugs, and you stare at him as he drones on.
"She sent you a letter, sure." He started, "However, what if she sees us and instantly regrets it."
"Eddie, stop. Relax." You assure your boyfriend reaching over to place a soothing palm over his knee, rubbing your thumb in small soothing circles. "It's gonna be okay, Eddie."
He nodded, a sigh of relief escaping him, feeling the tension release beneath your ministrations. "I trust you, baby. I do."
When arriving at the house Eddie's nerves start to get the better of him as he pulls the gear into park. He fumbles with the seat-belt and went to reach into his pocket to pull out a cigarette, but you stop him. He's shaking, but as soon as your eyes lock it stops. "Everything is going to be alright, Eddie."
Things were going to be just fine. Visiting your Grandmother Sarah was taking a toll on Eddie, but she had written letters mentioning something urgent. This something would change your life forever.
In my opinion Chrissy and Eddie dress up as Sarah Williams and Jareth the Goblin King from Labyrinth. The movie was released in summer of ‘86 and it combines perfectly Chrissy’s fairytale world with Eddie’s fantasy one so it’s perfect. Plus, I know that Eddie is a metalhead but David Bowie is David Bowie!
I love Eddie's energy "An asshole to the world but a sweetheart to his girl" except he's not really an ashole but acts tough infront of everybody and is a soft sweetheart to Chrissy 🥺
My man is a straight up gremlin and I love him for it. Him and Chrissy should have gotten the chance to be gremlins together 😪
But that absolutely is my favorite trope ngl “He wasn’t soft for anyone but her etc” closely followed by “no one saw the dark in her but him/ no one saw the light in him but her”
I honestly need to know how the Party would have reacted to Labyrinth in 1986 (pre- Vecna).
I feel like Eddie would have absolutely loved it and immediately turned up to the next Hellfire Club meeting in full Jareth attire. And I'm talking hair, Cape, makeup and eyebrows and standing proud as he shows off almost identical trousers.
He then starts breaking into Magic Dance and tries to fling whatever member of the party he can reach into the air.
