Part 3
Tumblr media
Word Count: 1541
Summary: When your trainer quits on you, you dive deep into your work, and try to ignore the reason why.
The way you were feeling was incredibly stupid, you had told yourself. You had lost your training partner, your mentor. But, there were others out there to support you. Natasha and Steve happily offered to work with you on your combat skills, Steve going as far as offering to be a human punching bag when needed. Wanda guided your mind and your magic, helping you to control the energy and learn how to hone your power to one particular focus. Loki was right, as annoying as that was–this was probably for the best.
So, why then, did you feel like this–like you had been rejected by him? He didn’t want to train you anymore because you were a Midgardian? You took that personally. But, you realized that, as much as he pissed you off, you missed his cocky attitude, his smug little smirk, and the banter between you two. And, it didn’t help that soon after he decided to stop training you, he left with Thor on a mission back on Asgard.
In an attempt to keep your mind busy, you dove head first into the research with Tony and Bruce, studying the developments of HYDRA’s serums and its effects on matter. You stayed late into the night, after the rest of the team had gone to bed, working calculations and testing theories. You told yourself that you were close to a breakthrough, that the work was incredibly important, that it had nothing to do with your unconscious thoughts drifting to wondering what he was doing, if he was ok.
And so, when he had returned to Earth after being gone for months, you weren’t even aware. With your earbuds blasting your favorite music, you sat in the lab laser focused on your work. You were indeed close to a breakthrough in understanding the developments of HYDRA’s work, and with the bass pumping in your ears, excitement built up in you. Nearly knocking over your stool, you grabbed your paperwork and flash drive and sprinted down the hall to the common area.
“I got it, Tony!” You yelled down the hall, your heart racing with excitement. “I figured it…” You slowed as you entered the common area with the rest of the team standing there. “...out.”
You locked onto those blue eyes as he stood at the other end of the room, his hands behind his back as Thor entertained the group with the happenings up in Asgard. Dropping your papers and zip drive into Tony’s lap, you almost stumbled in your brisk pace across the room, and without hesitation wrapped your arms around him. You took to memory how he smelled, like evergreen and leather, in that moment.
When you let him go, he smiled down on you. “Missed me?”
You were far past embarrassment, but not knowing what to say, you sheepishly smiled back, and then turned to Tony. “I figured it out, Tony. HYDRA’s serums–read my notes and tell me what you think.”
“Alright wizkid, show us what you got.” You headed back to the lab with Tony and Bruce in tow, but not before turning to look at Loki one last time, that cocky smirk back on his face.
*****
That night, Tony threw a party in celebration of the return of “The Asgard Squad” as he had now deemed them. You looked yourself over in the mirror, applying one more coat of mascara, and ignoring the fact that you definitely were taking a little more care than normal in your appearance tonight. You adjusted the straps of your black cocktail dress, slipped your high heels on, and hooked your dazzling earrings into place. Natasha wasn’t going to be the only one turning heads tonight.
You slipped into the party as the DJ cranked up Drake on the speakers. Because nothing says Asgard like some Drake music, you thought. Eyeing the scene, you spotted Natasha at the bar attempting to flirt with a very awkward Bruce. You smiled at how adorable those two were and made your way over to Thor and Tony.
“Nice of you to come out of the lab for once and join us,” Tony commented as you strolled up.
“Hey, I finally cracked the code,” you said, crossing your arms. “I deserve to be let out every now and then.”
Tony shook his head, chuckling to himself. “Don’t get too cocky on me, y/n. You may have solved one puzzle, but that's only the surface. I guarantee you there is more to this than you think.”
“Well, I still deserve to treat myself tonight,” you said.
In response, Thor shouted out, “Here! Here! And what shall the lady have?”
“Hmmm, what’s your poison tonight?”
Thor thrusted his large mug out, the contents splashing up on the side. “Ah, this is the Asgardian Ale I told you about. I made sure to bring some barrels of it down to Midgard.”
“Alright, let’s try it.”
Behind Tony, you heard a short laugh. “I’m not sure that is the best choice.”
You leaned over to find Loki sitting on a low couch, a large pint in his hand as well.
“And why not?” you asked, placing a hand on your hip.
A knowing look on his face, he answered, “Do I have to remind you of the tequila-infested weekend in Mexico for Tony’s birthday? I do not wish to spend the rest of my evening holding your hair back again, girl. Go find something a little less potent.”
You stared at him, your jaw clenched in place. He was good at pressing your buttons. He knew just which ones to press to irritate you. But, you learned while he was gone all those months that you didn’t have to allow him to have that kind of control over you anymore.
With your jaw set, you walked over to where he sat. He watched your movements in curiosity, waiting for your next move like a chess game. Coming to stand in between his long legs, you bent down at your waist, your face mere inches from his. With your eyebrow raised, you sighed.
“Oh Loki,” you said, as if speaking to a child. “I don’t think you’ve realized, I’m not a child. I don’t need to be looked after.”
Straightening up, you slowly pulled his own mug of ale out of his hand, and without breaking your eye contact, took a long sip of his drink.
Honestly, it was strong. It took everything in you not to cough or gag or pull a face. You could have won an Oscar for that performance. But there was no way in hell you were going to let him be right.
You could tell he was processing your actions. He was good at not showing his hand, but you could tell this wasn’t what he was expecting from you, to be this disobedient. Pulling the mug from your lips, you smiled down at him and left him sitting there, empty handed.
*****
When Loki found you later that evening, you were lying awkwardly on a couch in the common area upstairs. You had intended to go to your room after a long night of dancing, but after drinking quite possibly the strongest ale in the world, you only made it as far as the couch before deciding this was as good of a spot as any to spend the rest of the night.
Running his hands through the top of his hair, he sighed and easily lifted you off the couch and into his arms.
“Why do you have to be so stubborn, girl?” he mumbled to himself.
“Why do you have to be such a dick?” you slurred back. He laughed, amused by your catty response, as he assumed you had passed out.
He took you down the hall to your bedroom, adjusting you in his arms in an attempt to open the door.
“So I shouldn’t tell you ‘I told you so’ about the ale?” He asked, raising an eyebrow and glancing down upon your drunken state.
You gave him a playful pout. “I don’t remember you holding my hair back tonight.”
“Ah, and yet the night is not over.” He managed to get your door open and gently laid you down on your bed, propping a pillow behind your head. In your drunken state, you watched as he unbuckled the straps of your heels and slowly pulled them off. He set them by your bed, then walked across the room to your bathroom. You heard the water tap run and he soon came out with a large glass of water and handed it to you. “Drink.”
Brushing your fingertips with his, you took the glass and did as you were told. He took the glass from you, refilled it, and set it on your nightstand. “Well…”
“Loki?” You took his hand in yours and looked up at him. He looked down at the touch, then back at you. “I’m glad you’re back.”
Tag requests:
Letting go of the breath he was holding, he leaned over and gently kissed the top of your head. “Get some rest,” he said, and slipped out of your room, leaving you to wonder why you hadn’t asked him to help you out of your dress.

Ark map tier list?
ark map tier list. for u anon. I'll even give u a whole breakdown cause I love talking about this game.
Tumblr media
S Tier
Ragnarok - I remember when rag released and everyone lost their goddamn minds. It was and still is such a good map, I remember the frantic rush to be the first on the server to have griffins or steal wyvern eggs, especially ice wyvern eggs. Ragnarok is an absolutely beautiful map and I've built some of my all time fav bases on there, I'll have to see if I can find some pics. It has a lot to it in terms of creatures, caves, base locations, and scenery. Its got a lot to it, and theres even a good amount of hidden easter eggs if you look hard enough. I'd very much recommend rag for any beginner ark players out there, trust me it is easier than the island lol. plus u can get dragons.
Fjordur - Fjordur is just....such an amazing map I don't even have words. Nekatus really outdid himself. It is beyond gorgeous, like, some jaw-droppingly beautiful scenery. It has so much to it, there's so many places to go and so many things to explore, so many secrets to find, so many bosses to kill and so many creatures to tame. I will say I am a little disappointed in Fenrir, but hey, nothin a mod can't fix. Or a lil bit of research on the inis for console players. Plus, all the realms are just so fucking cool. Me and my friends built a massive Viking village in Asgard, I'll make sure to get pics next time I'm on that server. The caves r so fun, and all the bossfights are amazing. I really, really love the boss system they had set up. Its so unique and gave us so much to do, plus the final boss, fenrisulfr (pronoucned fenris-ulver btw) is such a fun fight. I had an absolute blast, also I absolutely love the new dinos. Much more than the lost island ones but we'll get to that.
Aberration - Screaming and frothing at the mouth. How do I even begin to describe how amazing aberration is. Its a hauntingly beautiful map, and the lore is so good. Did you know that you can hear the whispers of the survivors rockwell killed and trapped? its creepy as hell but its just so cool. its just such a unique experience as compared to the rest of ark. Theres no flyers, yet its got some of the most dangerous dinos in the game lurking around every corner. Aberration and scorched are tied for the hardest map imo. Its super fun to play on, and in terms of creatures its got some of the best new ones. I love rock drakes I would die for them.
A Tier
The island - I'll be honest, this ones mostly just here cause of nostalgia lol. I've been playing since day 1, I remember ark before it even had all its biomes. I remember a time when the volcano was just a mountain with a hole in the top, a time when pvp was just a bunch of naked people running around with bolas and spears, when having a rex made you a god, and most of all: When mammoths had buttholes and sabers had nutsacks. Sorry I had too lol. But anyways, the islands still a pretty solid map. Its like, the base map that everyone starts out on but its harder than a lot of the maps lol. Its extremely fun, and it has some fun caves. The boss fights will always be classics to me, Does anyone else remember when the monkey's boulders could hurt the rider? that was fun. The island may not be the best map, but it always has a special place in my heart.
Extinction - Not a ton to say about extinction, its certainly a fun map and the creatures are pretty amazing, I love adhd puppies and turret raptors lol. But its not that fun to actually like, survive on. Extinctions more fun when ur playing on a cluster with access to other maps. I do like OSD's and the boss fights are fr some of the best in the game, and I absolutely adore the ost. Probably my fave tbh lol
Crystal isles - This map is like, beyond beautiful and I do really, really like the crystal wyverns. But it was rather disappointing, I mean we all kinda expected them to remove the cool variants and stuff, but I feel like removing most of the cool variants the original mod had took away a lot from the maps charm. Plus, the removal of rock drakes was just such a let down for me. I do quite like the map still, and its very fun to play on and build bases on, as well as the wyverns, they're super fun, but it doesn't do much to compel me to play on it besides just getting crystal wyverns.
B Tier
Lost island - The big thing that tanks this map for me is its new creatures. Lost islands fun ig, but it just feels like an upgraded version of the island. Its pretty, and it does have manas so yay, but still. Its fun, but there's nothing that really makes it stand out besides being the only free map with manas on it. And as I mentioned before, I really do not like the new creatures. The dinopithecus is just a reskinned thyla with the Ferox's animation, I guess it has the poop stuff but it's just a very underwhelming creature. I feel like people voted for it more because of the memes than actually wanting it. The amargas…okay, I guess. but it doesn't really add anything and is a huge pain to tame, it doesn't feel very worth it. The Sinos prolly the best out of the 3, its a pretty good travel dino, and I call them rich man's glide suits lol. Also I hate the boss fight and the caves are very much not fun.
Gen 2 - Don't get me wrong, I do like gen 2, and I feel like it approved upon a lot of gen 1's issues and added some super awesome new items into the game, but it also completely destroyed the pvp meta lol. This is very much just personal preference, but I'm not super big on all the tek sci fi stuff. I mean it is fun to use the tek bow as well as like the hoversail. Gen 2 was very heavily biased towards the pvpers, which isn't bad, but as a pve player its just that a lot of the new dinos and items aren't worth getting for me. The stryder is useful I guess but being unable to cryo it...oof lol. Maewings and shadowmanes are also useful, but like the Noglin, Astrodelphis, and Voidwyrm are completely useless in pvp. The delphis is just a fancy way to get around, the Noglin has zero use in pve, and the voidwyrm is just a wyvern that doesn't do breath dmg. They're all cool lookin dinos I guess, but again just not much of a reason for me to tame them since they're a pain in the ass. I like gen 2's scenery, rockwells garden and the eden zone are cool and pretty but to me, they aren't as pretty as like fjordur or aberration. The R-dinos were cool, but I can get all those on other maps. Cool map, and it sent ark out with a bang, but still its meh for me.
Valguero - I do quite like it, but I don't like it enuf to put it on A tier lol. I adore deinonychus and its a pretty fun map to run around on, its also super pretty and I have built some dope ass bases, but its still just not a map I play on much or have much of a reason to go on. I can get deinons on a ton of different maps, so I pretty much go over there to make a cool base lol.
C Tier
Theres only one map on here lol. I do kinda like scorched, its fun, but its just not super enjoyable. I don't hate it or anything, but I don't consider it as good as anything on B tier. It gave us wyverns and has some good base locations, as well as being the first story map, it does offer a pretty fun challenge but much like extinction its more fun on a cluster than it is alone. Its caves are like, super fun tho, I love scorched's caves and I always have a blast doing them. Buuut I wouldn't say they're like, as good as fjordurs or anything. Okayish map, just not a fav.
D Tier
Gen 1 - eugh...I made a whole other post for gen 1 and this is getting long so imma just link that and give a summary here: the missions suck balls, its biomes are lame, and I don't like it lol.
The center - I'll be honest, I totally forgot this existed lol. I do not like the center. I know its fun for pvpers but eh. It was fun back in the day, but nowadays you can just go spend ur time on another map and have more fun. I don't really like the scenery either, very, very forgettable and idk anyone who goes over to the center for any reason lol.
and thats it! sorry for the long post I love ark and I love talking abt it.

Currently enjoying Fjördur with my friends! We are a little scattered through the Map, Jules and I are in the other Realms (she on Vanaheim while I am in Asgard) and the other 3 living in Midgard. I def wanted to live somewhere that gives me Aberration vibes, like one of the caves (I guess it is known how obsessed I am with Aberration!), and then I saw the blue forrest and decided to build close to the Rock Drake cave. First Picture shows my Greenhouse that got functioned into a Workshop. I didn’t wanted to ruin the View so I went full glass (it’s a older picture tho, I have a defense against the Shadowmanes and other nasty stuff that spawns there now). I really enjoy this map! We have everything for everyone! Base spots same as Dinos and you couldnt imagine my reaction when I saw the Rock Drakes were kept! Working towards a Hazard Suit was the first thing I did while building our first Beach House.

It's a ship...
"Look at its glory, brother!" Thor boasted, loudly toward Baldur - the Asgardian shipyard at Thor's back. "It's so large... is it too large?" Baldur's eyes struggled to take in all of the glory Thor had directed him towards. "That's not a thing," Thor said and chuckled, almost confused by Baldur's reaction. "You recognize it - brother?"
"Yes," Baldur answered quickly. "It's a ship..." Baldur's darker eyes searched Thor's hoping his answer was significant for the King.
"Yes!" Thor's face burned brightly, sure that Baldur was as similarly excited, just in the more subdued way his younger brother preferred. "Finally, Asgard has a vessel we can be proud of." Thor turned back toward the nearly completed space vessel that resembled a Drake type Viking longship more than an actual spaceship. "Powered by solar sails and the Bifrost itself, it's the fastest and most luxurious warship in the galaxy." Thor grinned uncontrollably.
"Warship?" Baldur asked. He ran his fingers along the gold tinted, wood grained hull still unsure which material it was actually constructed of.
'Well, yes. We unfortunately must always be ready for our next hostile encounter." Thor's more sober words hung in the air for a moment, until his unbashful excitement returned. "Don't worry, every member of the royal family has a full cabin and room for guests."
"Oh, that's... good." Baldur smiled more for Thor's sake than his own actual enthusiasm. "It truly seems to be a marvel of Asgardian engineering."
"Exactly," Thor bought his large palm down on his brother's shoulder in a moment of solidarity. "Not a silly toy and a waste of resources." Thor said quietly.
"Who said that?" Baldur asked.
"Hm? Not important." Thor pushed Baldur toward the extended ramp which led to the deck of the massive ship. "Let me give you the tour."

Watching the Yostverse; or, the X-Men problem
With Spider-Man being in my head lately (between Across the Spider-Verse and Spider-Man 2 on PS5) I realized I wanted to rewatch The Spectacular Spider-Man and see if the ending has value as is or if it's entirely ruined by being cut short. And that lead me to remember I never finished The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes! despite enjoying the first season a ton. It's been like a decade since both and I am much better at reading media than I was so I'm curious what'll hit different.
Now according to Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe A to Z Vol.10, Wolverine and the X-Men takes place in Earth-8096. Then The Appendix to the Handbook of the Marvel Universe lists that Wolverine and the X-Men, Hulk vs. Thor, Hulk vs. Wolverine, Planet Hulk, The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes!, and Thor: Tales of Asgard all take place on Earth-8096. This also means the Marvel Universe: The Avengers - Earth's Mightiest Heroes! and The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes! (2011) comics are set there.
Now the Planet Hulk film is also set on Earth-10022 as well, so if it can take place in multiple universes, I felt that there's no reason that The Spectacular Spider-Man couldn't also have happened here. According to Christopher Yost the AEMH episode Along Came a Spider was, in spirit, a Spectacular episode. The episode was also initially recorded with Josh Keaton as Peter Parker/Spider-Man before being redubbed as Drake Bell (at the time the upcoming voice for the lead in Ultimate Spider-Man). These details lead me to include the show.
So I compiled a list of all these episodes, movies and comics in release order. I've made it through most of The Spectacular Spider-Man and just began Wolverine and the X-Men, and despite being hopeful about a series I haven't watched before, I've already started to be caught up on how it is beginning to present things.
But maybe the problem is that the X-Men are a very flawed concept.
I was never into the X-Men as a kid, never saw the cartoon, the comics, or the movies. But the concept sounds cool. An oppressed people, proudly expressing their identity as members of that group while fighting against their oppressors! But the problem is how it is not a good metaphor for reality.
Whether based on racism, homophobia, or any other form of prejudice, oppressed peoples are not themselves inherently more dangerous than anyone else. The fearmongering about them is entirely artificial or unjustified paranoia. But even the nicest most considerate version of Scott Summers could trip and accidentally kill an entire room of people. Mutants in this series can actually be incredibly deadly to everyone around them! But the ones that have no deadly powers and just kinda look weird aren't treated any better. They aren't propped up to deflect criticism "we aren't anti-mutant, we are kind to the good ones!" And what makes the Brotherhood bad? In the show so far they smash a cop car (the cops are shown to still be fine) and this is portrayed as villainous. Contrasting Wolverine leaving the MRD guy in the automatic torture chair.
I just feel like X-Men can't get past its initial concept, where the good guys defend themselves from attack but don't actively fight back against their oppressors. That's villainous behavior. The heroic thing is to behave respectably until you are deemed worthy of rights.
The cops are good, and are also the law, which is good, and as part of the law they arrest mutants, who are all automatically criminals and hand them over to the MRD, who are bad, and SHIELD also hands over mutants to them, and SHIELD is good and works with the Avengers, who Wolverine joins, and the Brotherhood are bad because they're criminals.
I don't know if there are any good versions of the X-Men out there, but I feel it would only be so if they changed enough that the established fans would be unhappy with how different it was.
I did like one thing, when Angel turns down rejoining the X-Men because living as his father's shameful secret gives him access to a fortune he can use to help mutants. He is faced with two mutually exclusive choices and picks one. Neither the characters or the show judge this decision, it's ambiguous and up to the audience to decide. I like that!
It's possible I'm just being very judgemental on this series only halfway through the second episode but I'm not sure it'll manage to untangle these issues. I guess we'll see.

what are your favorite comic book characters?
Oh man, a lot? I was mostly into Avengers-adjacent comics when I was reading them a few years ago and now I’m reading more X-Men stuff and getting introduced to new characters as well, so that’s fun.
Obviously I’ve been liveblogging my descent into Rogue/Gambit hell for the last few weeks, and I like them both as a couple and as individual characters, which I’ve talked about before. Other X-Men … Oh, I love Laura Kinney, Wolverine’s clone/daughter, since I’m a huge sucker for stories about characters raised as weapons learning to love and find family. Storm’s also really cool, she has badass powers and great friendships with her teammates. Oh, and I just read Sina Grace’s Iceman run so now I love him too, always a fan of characters who joke a lot to cover up emotions. @libraryleopard has also made a fan of Rictor by osmosis even though I’ve only read a few things he’s in.
I’m also really attached to the Young Avengers since they were one of the first comics I read, especially Billy Kaplan and Teddy Altman (who I guess are the Kaplan-Altmans now that they’re married?). I LOVE that they’re a badass superhero power couple but they’re also total dorks who are very soft with each other. Honestly, it was learning that they got married which made me get back into comics. I also love Kate Bishop, archer girl of my heart, and Tommy Shepherd, Billy’s sarcastic speedster twin brother. I would sell my soul for another run of Young Avengers, an entire comic about a Maximoff family reunion, or both.
Angela and Sera from Asgard’s Assassin are also great–Thor’s stabby, bargain-obsessed mercenary older sister raised by angels and her chatty, funny, 4th-wall-breaking bard girlfriend. It’s not true love if you’re not willing to go to hell and challenge the ruler in order to get the woman you love back! I’m still mad that Brian Michael Bendis broke them up and I really hope the pride month comic about Angela coming out this June has some kind of reunion.
Okay yeah this is getting kind of long–apparently when you get me going, I have a lot of comic book faves, and that’s not even counting the non-Marvel ones!

Loki: Alright, we need a plan to defeat Thrym.
Thor: Oh! I got it! We freeze him. Then, we thaw him out 300 years in the future! He'll be so angry.
Loki, pretending to write something down: Freeze...him.
Thor:
Thor: You didn't really write that down, did you?
Loki, throwing his pen and paper: NO!

Frigga: What do you look for in a significant other, My son?
Loki, without looking up: a pulse, usually.
