~~An ominous vision. An orphanage fire. A leader leaving his people.~~
Xyla Coltt is searching for her twin sister, someone whom she had lost in the orphanage fire. She will do anything to find her... even if it means breaking the law. When she meets Phoenix, she thinks he's just like every other agent of Cathedral, a lapdog grunt that only knows how to follow orders.
Phoenix Bryte is a man on the run from his past. Where he used to lead and give orders, now he follows them. It's a fight between occupational duty and instinct. And when he meets Xyla, that internal struggle becomes harder to handle.
The meeting of these two leads to the beginning of a series of events that rocks the entire foundation of Arboriah City. Events that will lead to a battle for the future of the city.

Research & the Discovery Writer
Something I greatly enjoy is learning about other writers’ processes for coming up with ideas and actually writing their books. What fascinates me most are writers who can seemingly research everything they need before starting a book. Every time I think about it, I laugh. That is certainly not my process. The problem is that I am a discovery writer who plans their books out only a little at a…

Dear Alice,
I would like to take some time off your busy day to express to you my love, my appreciation and my admiration for your writing.
You are a perfectionist and it shows.
Your writing is nothing short of miraculously perfect and incredible. Your attention to small details is unlike any other writer's. You seem to have everything about your characters figured out. There are no blind spots or holes in your story. Your narration is captivating to the point where one loses track of time as they read your amazing fics (to name Restitution is a given by now but Princess and The Lawyer lately has been an Oof of disproportionate proportions!)
Thank you for taking the time out of your day and your life to give us these amazing stories.
Thank you for the energy and love you put into them.
I wish we can show you how much they mean to us in more ways than just this 💕💕
Thank you so much! 😊
I am unworthy of such high praise! (But I will accept, and basking in its glow anyways.)
The funny thing about those small details is that I’m kind of a hybrid writer. Part of me is a “discovery writer” and the other half is an “architect writer.” So, if you think I always have everything figured out… nope! I usually don’t know the ending until just before I write it. When I finish this story, I’ll probably discover the ending about a week before all of you.
I have strong theories about where the details are leading me but I can only craft the next logical steps. Typically, I’m thinking in terms of five chapter arcs. That means I still get to be creative while “having a plan.” I’m not always quite sure how the details fit together. But once I get closer to the end, it all clicks into place.
I would totally agree that The Princess is my best work yet! Out of everything I’ve ever written, it’s had the most flow and pace. Like you guys, I’ve gone back and re-read it for entertainment. And because I need time to process the details, so I can figure out how to pull off our midpoint twist. (Yes, there’s going to be a midpoint twist.)
The best compliment a writer could receive is that their stories make time fly. Thank you so much for saying that. I’m going to live off that compliment for… probably the next decade or so? I rely on positive feedback to keep going!
I do have a tiny bit of disappointing news… no chapter will be published this Friday. My discovery writer side threw a fit this week and made a mess of chapter six. It’s in no shape for public viewing at this time. Fortunately, I have realized what needs to change so the story will work.
The segment of the plot we’re into right now is the beginning of my “Break into Two” beat. I’m going to set up the second act and start laying the groundwork for the midpoint twist I mentioned earlier. For some reason, this is always my most challenging transition point of a story for me to write. In order to do it well, we have to wait another week.

Discovery Writing #WriterCommunity #WritingCommunity #Writer #Discovery #Writing #DiscoveryWriting #Pantsing #Pantser #Outlining #Outline #FindingThe Story
Hi everyone! I hope you’re all well. Today, I am exploring how to write your story without an outline. I have talked a lot about outlining stories because it has always been the easiest way for me to write; I have to know where my plot is going before I even start to write it. The problem I have discovered with this is that I sometimes get bored with the story if I know everything about it. When…

Welcome to the Zine O’Biology
A multi-fandom Star Trek Zine.
Do you have strong opinions on Vulcan fra’als, Cardassian tails, or how the heck Trill symbionts reproduce? We want to hear from you!
The Zine O’Biology is a fictional comparative xenobiology academic journal set in the Star Trek universe. If you’ve always wanted to wax eloquent for up to 3000 words about your theories on alien biology, welcome to your new home!
We want all your theories about all your favorite aliens! This is a friendly but competitive academic journal where the content of every paper is a little bit suspicious (is this paper based on rumor or fact? What is the methodology?) and some competing authors leave snarky comments on one another’s work. So just like a real academic journal, except ours features the Great Green Anthurium.
We welcome xenobiology articles on all Star Trek aliens from all series!
The final format will be a PDF that you can scroll at your leisure or print at home in order to have a physical copy of the Zine. (This way there is no money involved.)
--SEEKING SUBMISSIONS FOR--
Alien biology articles
Alien biology artwork
In-Universe advertisements
Letters to the editor
ALIEN BIOLOGY ARTICLES
How do Andorian genders work? Are Cardassians actually lizards? Why do Klingons have so many redundant organs? What’s the biological purpose of Bajoran nose ridges? What’s the best cement mix for emergency surgery on a Horta?
You’ve been pondering alien biology for years. This is your chance to infodump all your favorite theories to an eager audience of your fellow nerds!
Articles will be separated into two categories: reproductive biology or general biology. Yes, we also want all your theories on what every species is packing downstairs…and how they use it.
Journal articles should be fun and engaging, but also written in your interpretation of a pseudo-academic style, since this is a highly respected Federation xenobiology journal. If you want to keep things more lighthearted and less academic, check out the section on Letters to the Editor.
ALIEN BIOLOGY ARTWORK
If you have independent illustrations about alien biology we would love to see them! If you would like to provide illustrations for one of our journal articles, tell us what species you want to illustrate and we’ll do our best to match you up!
Art should be in a square, scaleable format, printable at high resolution at 4x4 inches.
JOURNAL ADVERTISEMENTS
Even in a post-need future, academic journals will need a little extra funding. Submit your ads for Ferengi Oomox Creme, Self Sealing Stem Bolts, Gently Used Federation Technology, and, of course, “reproductive aids.” The weirder the better! Have fun with it!
All art needs to be printable at high resolution
Ad Sizes:
1 column (vertical) 3.5 x 7
half page (horizontal) 8 x 5
banner (narrow horizontal) 8 x 2
in-text (square) 3.5 x 3.5 scaleable
in-text (half-square) 3.5 x 1.75
LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Do you have a great idea, but it’s not enough to fill out a 3000 word article? Submit it as a “reaction” to a previous journal article. Feel free to lay into a mythical researcher who does NOT understand why their biological theory is wrong and yours is right!
Max length 800 words. Enjoy making these plenty frothy!
WE NEED SUB-EDITORS!
The creators of this Zine are all notorious Vulcan Fuckers. Since we want the Zine O’Biology to be open to all alien species, it is only logical that we seek your expertise.
We’re seeking fans from all over the Star Trek universe to spread the word that yes, it’s time for us to all come together in the spirit of explaining how our favorite aliens come together.
Sub-Editors will be in charge of helping us solicit articles and art for their specific race of aliens and editing those articles in order to fit into the Zine. If we don’t have a sub editor for a species, we’ll do our best, but the chapter on that species won’t be as good as it would be if folks with real fanon knowledge were involved.
WANT TO GET INVOLVED, BUT YOU’RE NOT A WRITER OR ARTIST?
WE NEED:
Graphic designers to help with Zine layout
Social media promoters
Alien art and article wranglers (ie: get your fannish friends involved!)
--HOW TO GET INVOLVED--
Fill out the Art or Writing Google Form letting us know your interests or reach out to the Editor in Chief at [email protected]
DEADLINES:
August 1, 2024: Last date for everyone seeking an art or writing partner to submit their request. We don’t guarantee you’ll be partnered up. It depends on how many people are interested and what aliens they want to draw/write.
August 18, 2024: Art/Writing partners notified. NOTE: it’s both fine and encouraged if you want to submit as a team from the start! This is for people who do not have a partner and would like us to find them one.
August 30, 2024: Final call for all journal authors, artists, and advertisers to let us know what species they’re working with, how many submissions they plan to send, and whether their submission will be general or reproductive biology.
October 20, 2024: All art, advertising, and journal submissions are due
We hope to have the Zine O’Biology ready for your enjoyment by New Year’s Eve 2024. We all have full time jobs and lives, so that date may change depending on the volume of submissions.
FAQ
What if my biological theories are totally different from another author’s?
Yes. Perfect. We love it.
We want to see everyone’s theories! Canon gave us scraps, but together we will make a meal! Expect to see many mutually contradictory articles. That’s part of the fun!
What about Smut?
Yes, we are accepting E rated submissions! The journal will be separated into two sections:
General Biology
Reproductive Biology
General Biology is everything but the genitals
Reproductive Biology should include actual descriptions of the mechanics and biology. Think of it as creating reference material for smut writers and artists.

Immediate Writer's Block
Had a comment on another post where I thought I'd probably need more space than the notes in which to respond, so:
constant-state-of-self-discovery Oh I get the envy I feel it right now how the fuck do you manage to write without impassable writers block after 5-9 sentences because I haven't fucking figured it out lol
I do have some advice on this!
I think most writers get blocked from time to time, it's normal and my general strategy is just to wait it out, but if you're frequently blocked after only writing a very little bit, I think the problem is one of two things: either you don't know what you want to achieve with the scene you're writing, or you don't know what should happen next within the scene to achieve that goal. If you frame "I'm blocked" as "I don't have an answer I need" then often you move from just sitting there, sweating and staring at a blank page, to thinking productively about how you're going to get where you're going. It's the difference between not knowing an answer and not knowing an answer but knowing where to look for it.
An invaluable piece of advice for this, which I think I picked up from someone who got it off a National Novel Writing Month messageboard, is "When in doubt, ninjas attack." It's not meant to be literal, you don't need to have ninjas or fight scenes just because you don't know what to do, but it helps to get the creativity flowing again. If you don't know what should happen next, or you know but you're having trouble actually writing the scene, it can be very helpful to induce a moment of uncertainty or surprise -- to have a metaphorical ninja attack. One time I did this literally -- the POV character was just on the road somewhere and I didn't know how to get them from a pastoral country road to their actual destination in an interesting way, so I had them get attacked by highway bandits and have to fight them off, which also allowed me to demonstrate that the character had significant unarmed combat skills. But it can also just be like, two characters who are having a boring conversation can be interrupted by a third person, even just a stranger asking for directions, or there can be, IDK, an explosion, or something goes missing, or etc.
Sometimes it also helps to leave it alone but keep it in your mind and go do something else -- listen to a podcast, take a walk, read a book, not because those things are distracting but because all our inputs eventually feed into our brain and come out as reactions. If you're thinking about your book while you're wandering around a park, something you see in the park might have an impact on it. If you've got YOUR story in mind while reading someone else's, you might be more inclined to look at what they're saying and see what you think of it, how it might play into your work.
And honestly, sometimes you just gotta go past it. I'm working on the next Shivadh novel right now and it opens basically with Simon the chef getting into a spat with his love-interest-to-be over some cheese. He want the cheese, she won't sell him the cheese, so they get off to a very contentious start. But I suck at writing conflict especially when it's basically "A character I like is being pompous and another character I want people to find likable is being stubborn and somewhat unpleasant". I've been stalled on it for a while. But I know where the scene ends up, like I do know what the goal is, so I just...skipped it and went on to writing a scene I like better, where they meet a second time and actually discover each others' identity and that they're about to be forced into the grownup equivalent of a school project. Once I've gotten dug deeper into the story I'll come back and write it, and by then I'll have the benefit of knowing the love interest a bit better.
So yeah -- I think a lot of breaking a writer's block, especially when you don't need rest but are just stumped about what to do, is to twist and look at it from another angle. It's not that you don't know what to write, or don't want to write what you know you have to -- it's that you don't have the correct answer to a question, or you need to leave that part alone to ferment and come back to it later. At least, for me.

HOW TO HAVE A POWERFUL PRESENCE
1. Display confident body language. Straighten your spine. Hold your head up. Make eye contact when speaking to others. Do power poses. Take up space. Use your hands to help express what you're speaking about. Project your voice.
3. Take care of your appearance. Eat foods that make you feel energized and healthy. Cultivate a consistent skin care routine. Wash your pillows and makeup brushes regularly. Exfoliate your skin at least once a week. Take naps for less stress. Check in with yourself mentality.
5. Stop taking yourself so seriously. Most people are mostly focused on themselves, not fixating on judging you. They probably won't remember the mistakes you made as much as you do. So quit beating yourself up. (If there is someone hyper-focused on bullying you they are most likely trying to ignore something embarrassing about themselves. Bullies are the most insecure people within'. Remember that).

The New Book Blues
I have a confession: I hate starting a new book. This probably sounds weird from someone who loves writing, their characters, stories, etc., but the actual starting part is the absolute worst for me. I’m not one of those writers who gets an idea and immediately dives headfirst to bang out 10,000 words in a few days before hitting the wall when they get to the middle. No matter how hard the…

I love your work!!! When is part 5 of princess and the lawyer coming out?
My goal is to publish a chapter every Friday. I’ve already posted a piece this week, so Chapter V is anticipated for release on September 2.
Be aware, this goal should be taken with a grain of salt. I don’t promise to hit it every time.
I’m an “intuitive plotter” which means that I outline my story, then do whatever feels right in the moment as I’m writing. If what I write deviates from the original plan, I go back and create a new outline. There are many, many outlines throughout the writing process…
Usually, I outline a story one Act at a time. For example, my Act 1 of Princess is partially finished. Now that I’ve hit that point, I was able to make an outline of Act 2, but it’s not set in stone. Act 3 is still a mystery. I have a theory about what I’m going to do, but it’s not entirely clear yet. (Even to me.) Until I get all the pieces made I’m not going to bother trying to solve the puzzle.
Does that make sense? Or do I sound crazy?
It might be insane to write like this, but I don’t want to know the ending until I have a firm grasp on the story. It also helps be build stronger characters because they surprise me with some of the things they do. And I can pull off a heck of a plot twist sometimes.
Besides, what motivation would I have to keep writing if I knew the ending? 😂
I’ll continue to make posts letting my followers know when to expect a new part. Those seem to have been well received. Also, I do try to keep my masterlist updated.

also like. "The Chase" (TNG S6E20) is set up as a race for some Super Special Advanced Technology that winds up actually being just. like. a very generic "hi kids we're so proud of you" greeting card and honestly i NEED DIS S5 to end with the same thing, just another absolutely sweet yet banal greeting from amorphous rubber aliens giving a Watsonian explanation for something that absolutely did not need to be explained — hi kids, we're so proud of you, here's why your uniforms keep changing every five years it's us we're doing it in the background, it definitely has nothing to do with TV production cycles shhhhhhhh

hey! can you do some prompts for internalized homophobia? (also about ao3 works: do we just put a link to your blog in like the authors notes or something? or do we mention you on here with a link to the fic?)
Hi! Yes, I can do :) for the credit: I would like you to put a link to my blog in the authors note if you’re using ao3.

They have a crush on their best friend who is lgbtq+, but they don’t want to admit it because they think they are being gross.
It would have been easier to come to out to their parents and friends, if only they didn’t have so much fear about being who they were. Hating themself.
“No, I don’t like them. I could never. I’m not a queer.”
“I shouldn’t like them. They are…they are not the opposite gender.”
They have toxic friends who throw around homophobic slurs, they can’t help but listen to them and think that that is what defies them.
Being raised up by a homophobic family and having difficult changing their views internally.
Thinking they are not good enough to be the way they are. (Low self-esteem)
“I’m not what they say I am. But, even I’m having trouble processing who I truly am.”
“I can’t admit it. I don’t want to.”
“I’m straight, okay? I couldn’t be anything else but straight.”
“Look, I support the lgbtq community but I don’t necessarily want to be part of it.”
