So you agree. Show-writers are important to you and to the industry and should be compensated accordingly for their important work.

WRITERS STRIKE:
I am an author, and my most recent book was turned into a screen play by a talented screenwriter. Folks, she worked her ass off—I mean it; the hours and the workshopping, then the many rounds of pitches, going up before studios and pushing the story because she believed in it. Then, at last, she found an excited director/producer at a major studio. He took it to the execs. You know what they said? ‘Seems like the writers are planning a strike—so we’re not buying anything new.’ That’s right: the writers went on strike BECAUSE of mistreatment by studios… and the studio (before the strike) used the strike to, wait for it, mistreat writers. This amazing screenwriter worked for a year and a half for no pay (as a matter of fact, she paid my agency a small holding fee to work the script), created something amazing for a network, and now is struggling to make ends meet. I told my agent to let her keep the rights as long as she needs (as in, forget the term contract ffs, she doesn’t need to pay for any more rights from us), and they agreed. But I’m sick at heart for her. I get it, too; I write books and hope they sell—they don’t always. It’s a gamble. But I can’t imagine being in the position she’s in right now. Please, support the writer’s strike however you can. Big studios, big publishers… they will keep pushing writers to the margins as long as they can get away with it.

Don't let the support on social media die out. They're still going strong and consistent for this strike and we should stand consistently behind them.

Only “life” is a bunch of billionaire CEOs who would rather threaten their employees with homelessness instead of pay them a living wage.

out of the ashes of the 2023 writers strike, another beautiful, completely unintentional, homoerotic phoenix will arise and it will fly into the sky of a male-dominated tv show and this majestic creature will consume the minds of multitudes of impressionable youths
and those glorious, dedicated legions will write profoundly holy and depraved scriptures, the likes of which the world has never seen and soon, these sinful acolytes will rejoice as they discover how salvation can only be found on the lips of your damnation.
This is the legacy of a writers strike; it's splendorous; its awe-inspiring. It will even be proclaimed that this unfathomable power is almost...supernatural.

The Hollywood Writer Strike: Demands
The WGA has officially gone on strike, freezing Hollywood’s ability to make anything but rebooted old game shows, sleazy reality shows, and Star Trek Lower Decks. Here is a list of the guild’s demands to return to work:
Writers must be paid in actual money, and not solely in movie ticket discount coupons to their own films.
If a studio AI duplicates the entirety of a writer’s unmade script, that writer can no longer be sued by the studio for copyright infringement on the AI script, should their real script ever be made.
Writers must be credited for their work even if producers think their name will look funny in the credits, in accordance with the proposed "Eszterhas Law."
Writers must be entitled to eat and drink at any time, and not only on completion of page quotas. They must also gain the right to drink filtered water, not just tap or ditch water.
Hazing in writers rooms must no longer allow for any acts that may render the writer permanently unable to write.
Actors may no longer hunt writers for sport, even during awards season.
Studios must not force writers to type or print material in their own blood (known in the industry as "Verhoeven Calligraphy").
Writers working on deferred payment can no longer be starved, beaten, dismembered, or boiled to death in their own mothers’ milk just for a producer’s amusement. The producer must now have an actual reason.
Studio executives may not punish writers with electrical or flame based torture, nor keelhauling, sleep deprivation in excess of one year, acts in violation of Geneva conventions, killing of their firstborn children, or forcing them to work with J.J. Abrams. All these techniques are strictly reserved for visual effects personnel, may God have mercy on their souls.
As per Hollywood tradition, the WGA will hold out for long enough to cull all but the ten most popular writers, who will then set out to begin anew in a distant land (Mid-Wilshire) and reforge the Hollywood system as its executives, who will then hire and abuse new writers, beginning the cycle again.

Rich folks are something else. You can fly your private plane(s) to all these fancy places stay in your big house, buy your expensive clothes and items, eat your fancy food, stay in your fancy little summer home but giving the writers and actors an affordable wage is delusional and unreasonable? Fuck you. Eat the rich

As we in the US begin to reach what is traditionally the start of TV seasons and the strike continues. I am imploring people to remember who they actually should be angry with and it’s not the writers or actors. The production entrainment corporations and studios are pretty much flat out refusing to negotiate. They are trying to wait this out so they give can as little as and public opinion is factor in that. They want you to think the writers and actors are being petty and greedy. They aren’t; they trying to ensure that we still have a professional entrainment industry in 10 years where making a living is feasible.
I get that we all want to know that cliffhanger gets resolved, if that character is actually dead, new content cannon content, etc. but without an equitable agreement mitigating on current issues there is a lot to lose. If the corporations and studios win writers’and actors’ control and influence on will erode more and the industry will continue to make decisions that often come down when it comes to renewals, representation, and story based on primarily on profit over quality.
The demands overall have been more than reasonable. However, the executives and owners have not only refused to negotiate in good faith they have mostly refused to negotiate at all. The narrative that there will be no new show or work until the writers/actors decide to call off the strike is a false one. Studios and owners can stop this anytime they want by agreeing to pay members appropriately and treat them basic respect instead of excoriating their labor for every profit they can. Stay angry but know/remember who you should actually be angry with.
