The Carnivore Diet: Benefits, Vitamin Deficits, and Better Alternatives
In this exploration, I will delve into the carnivore diet, examine its purported benefits, and shed light on why its vitamin deficit makes it a less-than-ideal dietary choice.
In recent years, the carnivore diet has gained traction as a radical approach to nutrition, advocating for an exclusively animal-based intake while eschewing plant-based foods. Proponents of this diet argue that it brings a plethora of benefits, from weight loss to increased energy levels. However, upon closer examination, it becomes evident that while the carnivore diet may have some advantages,…

TW: Eating Disorders (very brief mention), Mainly Difficult Time Talking About Weight Loss)
The average size of the human stomach is roughly the average male's fist (don't get it twisted with your heart; that's two fists), but I have had two major gastric surgeries that greatly decreased my stomach in size (neither surgery was for that reason). My stomach is 1/4th the average male's fist. I can usually eat roughly 250-420 calories per day via food (which is painful af), and I tried to bolster that amount with sports drinks, and I tried so hard to do protein shakes, but I just couldn't keep them down. Plus, I just prefer water.
So, adding the food, sports drinks, and occasional white cranberry + peach + strawberry juice (yo, I cannot recommend that enough.), I usually get a MAXIMUM of 1,200 cal, usually more like 950 cal.
How am I still fat? I have anorexia nervosa, this is true, however I really have put that in the past. If I'm hungry, I eat; if I want calorie packed drinks, I consume them. I don't weigh myself every day;I can't, I know I could slip up, but when I do weigh myself I just gawk at the number. Today was 178lbs. How am I not a stick?

So there’s a post on my dash rn talking about how carbs are bad” is diet culture and explaining how carbs are a basic nutrient and I’m torn.
On the one hand, I’m sure there are people who say you’re literally not supposed to eat carbs ever, and I do think that’s crap and restrictive in a creepy way.
But the way I’ve always understood is less that some foods are poison, but that:
Humans really really really like refined sugar. It makes our food taste better! So much so that we put small amounts of it in savory foods when we cook them! However, it hasn’t been available for a long enough time for us to adapt to those quantities.
This is compounded by something that I grew up with that may not be a thing any more, called the food pyramid. This encouraged you to eat quite a lot of grain. So much so that I remember trying to be good and eat more cereal and just feeling as if my mouth was full of gravel.
(From my recollection we have since learned that there were some lobbyists who pressured Congress into inflating the grain servings, though I can’t remember where I learned that.)
When Atkins came along it felt to me like a relief. Eventually I came to feel like hey I should eat some bread too but it was massively lovely to hear that I wasn’t insane.
Anyway. So what I think now about the whole thing is that while shunning any food (unless you have a medical diet for reasons that are not about weight loss or general promotion of health) is a bad idea, it’s worth noting that with carbs especially, our modern default diet likely includes more than we might want just because other primates don’t add sugar to other things and we can and do.
Reasonable?

It Girls Ramadan Guide
Tumblr media
Hey babesss I am soooo excited Ramadan officially starts this week and I wanted to post a Ramadan guide for my fellow Muslim girliesss if you aren’t Muslim but are participating in Ramadan this is a good guide for you as well.
Setting Intentions
♡ Before Ramadan starts set your intentions. What do you want to improve on this Ramadan? What charities do you want to donate to? Even if you aren’t able to reach all the goals you set Allah rewards us based on our genuine intentions.
♡ Journaling. I highly recommend journaling your intentions and your experience this Ramadan. Keep track of your mood, as well as your Quran readings, and prayers. I will link a Quran Journal as well as a 30-Day Ramadan Journal  Ramadan Legacy Planner.
♡ Vision Board. I’ve seen some girls online recommend creating a Ramadan vision board and I agree! Create a vision board using Canva and Pinterest, or you can use a poster board and magazine. This will help you see your goals not just read them. Place your vision board where you can see it so you're reminded of your goals daily.
Tumblr media
Nutrition
Suhoor
♡ Eat a balanced suhoor meal. Eat a meal high in protein, protein takes a while to be broken down so it’ll help you at the beginning of the day. Eat carbs and fats you will need as much energy as the average hours we fast during Ramadan are 12 to 18 hours depending on where you are.
♡ Drink water. One of the things I struggle with every Ramadan is my water intake. Try to drink at least two 16oz bottles of water during Suhoor. Hydration is super important you don't want to pass out due to severe dehydration.
♡ Drink electrolytes. Drinking electrolytes is very beneficial before fasting they help your body retain water while you are fasting. Do not overdo your electrolyte intake because too much sodium is bad.
Iftar
♡ Do not overdo it. I know going a long period without food can make you want to eat everything in sight but it is important to eat a well-balanced nutritious meal after fasting. When you overeat this may cause indigestion and other stomach issues.
♡ Avoid eating too much fried, salty, and high-sugar foods. Moderation is key I know during Ramadan my mom makes all of our favorite Ghanaian dishes and they aren't the most healthy options. That doesn't mean you shouldn't eat them or avoid them you can eat them but in moderation. Eating too much of these foods in the moment may feel good because they cause us to release feel-good hormones like dopamine and serotonin but they can make fasting the next day very difficult.
♡ Eat whole foods. The best food to break your fast with is fruit! Specifically, a date to begin with and then other fruits like pineapple, watermelon, oranges, strawberries, mango, and other fruits you like. I would recommend you eat more water-based fruits to hydrate your body.
♡ Drink water. I mention this twice because it is very important that after you break your fast you drink water make it a goal of yours to have six to eight glasses of water daily.
Tumblr media
Movement
♡ Create a Ramadan workout plan. I know a lot of us girliesss are on weight loss journeys and we want to be snatched before the summer but we also don't want to stress out our bodies while fasting and exerting needed energy. Create a workout plan that starts low and goes slow. Limit intense cardio, and train at a lower intensity, if you lift try to lift heavy before suhoor which means you’ll need to wake up earlier. If you prefer to workout after Iftar break your fast with something light so that your stomach won’t feel so heavy when you workout.
♡ Walking. I recommend getting in sedentary movement throughout the day, so instead of taking the bus walk if where you're going isn't that far. Walking is beneficial for so many reasons I’ll link this article.
♡ Yoga and Pilates. I love both of these exercises they are perfect for my girlies who are fasting. Pilates especially is perfect it is very low and slow in movements but still gives you amazing results. Yoga is perfect for relaxing especially if you deal with anxiety, sore muscles, back problems, and trouble sleeping I recommend trying yoga.
Tumblr media
Increase Your Iman
♡ Prioritize Prayer. Make sure to pray all five of your daily prayers and do them on time try your best to not delay your prayers unless you have to.
♡ Read Quran. Some of you might be hafiz of the Quran and I know it is common for hafiz to try and finish the Quran from start to finish during Ramadan so maybe you can make that a goal if you are a hafiz. For my girlies who are like me and haven’t finished the Quran but Insha Allah we will! I recommend trying to read at least 10 verses of the Quran daily that's better than not reading it at all.
♡ Watch Islamic Lectures. I recommend spending your time online watching Islamic lectures like Omar Suleiman, Mohammed Hoblos, Mufti Menk, Dr. Sh. Haifa Younis, Akhi Ayman (he is perfect for younger men), and many other amazing lecturers. My favorites are Omar Suleiman and Mufti Menk they explain Islam in such a beautiful way and spread the message perfectly.
♡ Charity. This month is the best month to give to those in need. You can donate to many organizations, and help send aid to Gaza/Congo/Sudan, create a fundraiser for your local masjid in need, feed another fasting person, help prepare Iftar at home, and so much more. Charity not only blesses us with good deeds but there have been studies proving random acts of kindness are good for our mental health we produce dopamine when we donate or help others.
♡ Pray Tahajjud. I swearrrr if you have anything you desire in this life this is the best prayer you need to pray! Allah is closest to the earth during the last third of the night and he is there to listen to our dua’s and repentance. You can only pray Tahajjuud after you sleep. Tahajjud is hard to catch because it involves having to leave our sleep for the sake of Allah. One Mallam explained Tahajjud so beautifully he said “Tahajjud is like a personal invitation from Allah Not everyone can get in most people are asleep during that time.” If you have anything you want badly pray Tahajjud for it, especially during this holy month.  So try your best to wake up an hour or two before the fajr prayer and pray Tahajjuud I will link a video on the benefits and how to pray Tahajjud for those who don’t know how.
These are a few tips for my girliesss I hope Ramadan is a blessed month for all of us! Thank you for all the support babes! we are getting close to 500 followers!!!

@thebloodiestmary its idea is that fat should make up the largest percentage of your dietary intake, with as few carbs as possible. carbs are demonized to an extreme that has made them synonymous with “weight gain” and they’re treated like toxins or contaminants. there is an obsession to have as close to zero carbs as possible in your daily intake, although the general starting point tends to be “under 100g” as the novice and then graduates to “under 50g” as the intermediate.
most of the diet is, of course, animal products. high fat, slightly less high protein (excess protein is converted to glucose and thus evil), and minimal carbohydrates.
fiber, however, cancels out “bad” carbohydrates in this theory. if a food has 10g carbs, but 4g of those are fiber, then in the keto world that food contains 6g of “net carbs.” it is a crazy-making algebraic way of calculating your intake. and even though fiber is a focus, it is de-prioritized completely in this diet which is so full of animal protein and animal fat that i am not surprised to see many keto fanatics come out with bowel cancers or leaky gut or heart disease or high liver enzymes/fatty liver disease or gallbladder disease/gallstones.
the idea is no sugar, no carbs. as little glucose activity as possible.
people tend to lose weight on it usually because they are actually eating fewer calories than they usually would, but not realizing it. keto usually counts by macros, not by calories. in fact, it often discourages calorie tracking. this sounds promising, but it also means most people who lose so much weight with it don’t tend to realize that it’s because they’re in a large caloric deficit. it’s a scam! if you tracked your calories you’d probably realize you were in a deficit all along, and that THAT’S why you’re losing weight, not bc of some magical keto spell.
only eating meat and dairy and eggs will do that. meat and dairy and eggs are PRIMARY weight loss foods and always have been. keto fanatics feel smug because they’re eating bacon and steak and fried eggs and full-fat cheese, but they don’t realize how few calories they’re taking in by eliminating all other foods.
keto has a bad reputation for making its dieters paranoid about fruit, beans, whole grains, and even vegetables.
hardcore keto dieters barely get any of those in their diet. but they lose weight, so it must be healthy!
their boasting of “lower cholesterol” and “lower blood sugar” is almost certainly bc they are losing weight IN A CALORIC DEFICIT.
it is not possible to lose weight if you are not in a caloric deficit.
there is the famous “keto flu” onboarding stage where you feel sick and tired for about a week or sometimes more as you “wean” off of carbs. that is your body starving for nutrients lol. it’s starving. you feel sick and exhausted bc you have almost nothing going in.
and i can say this with confidence bc i fell for this diet hardcore when i was 20. i lost tons of weight eating “fatty” foods. what was actually happening was rabbit starvation—i was getting so much protein and so few other nutrients that i was actually starving myself.
it’s a poisonous diet, nothing more than a weight loss fad, wholly unsustainable, and wildly expensive btw.
any “benefit” that anyone claims comes from it is usually simply from the process of weight loss in a deficit if one’s original health problems (usually heart or diabetes related) were due to being overweight.
and yeah again i won’t even bother to get into what happens to one’s colon and bowels in general eating that many animal products and hormones and that much fat with little to no fiber. with all its parading of red meat and bacon and sausage and other cured meats, it’s a recipe for colon cancer, that’s all i’ll say.
it’s done so much damage to our understanding of food and balanced nutrition and it’s sneaky and dishonest in its ~famed results. it’s a fancy way of getting yourself into a caloric deficit, that’s all.
if all you ate in one day was a McDonald’s value meal at 1200 calories or whatever, you’d lose weight. you’d be in a deficit. keto makes you think it will be possible to consume 5000 calories of fatty fried foods and lose weight—but that literally is not what happens. you usually remain in a deficit because you’re starving trying to keep your carbs as low as possible. and you don’t notice it bc you’re not keeping track of calories, only grams of carbohydrates vs grams of fat.
so many topics exist on keto forums like “why am i not losing weight with keto?!” and answers will urge the user to eat less lmfao. or go on a “fat fast” to “get your body to prioritize burning fat as its primary source of energy” which is eating mostly like 90% fat as your intake majority with 0g of carbs. aka starvation.
you cannot train your body to “prioritize” fat as its primary source of energy. it will ALWAYS prefer carbohydrates as the most efficient and easily digestible source of fuel. the only way you can sustain “ketosis” (which is a dangerous medical condition btw) is by never feeding yourself enough carbs so that your body literally thinks it’s starving—BECAUSE IT IS!!!! you’re “burning fat” bc you are STARVING!!!!
and yeah. just. terrible for your gallbladder, your liver, your digestion, your heart, your inflammatory system, everything. horrific diet.
tl;dr—snake oil, low energy starvation recipe for bowel cancer!

How to loose weight without loosing your mind?
Trigger warning: weight loss and mentions of ed
I’ve been thinking about making this post for a while. Then I thought „hey it’s good to share your knowledge with others, maybe this could help some people”. This post wont be related to tarot, spirituality or kpop.
Tarot is not the only thing I have some experience in. And I do think I’m the right person to talk about this. I went from around 74 to 60 kilos (my current weight although not my best shape) and I’m like to think of myself of a fit person. Nothing crazy. I’m not very toned but I know how to work out and eat to not go crazy.
And I’m speaking up because I’ve noticed over the years many misconceptions about loosing weight. I saw people promote ways that could lead to eating disorders and health issues.
Disclaimer: this post isn’t made to throw hate on people that use that methods. That’s not my point. I want to debunk some of the things I’ve read on tumbrl on heard on TikTok that make my blood boil. And I’ll share some of my tips that are way easier and sustainable.
Disclaimer #2: I’m not a dietitian, personal trainer or a doctor so obviously even I can say something ridiculous or scientifically inaccurate but I’ll try my best 🩷
Here’s the list of me ranting:
Red color - avoid doing that, this is a result of the “diet culture” and in the end will just hurt your body
Green color - better way to loose weight based on my experience
Drinking a glass of water before a meal. Specifically so you can eat less food. Some people may disagree but that’s a terrible habit that could change your brain’s biochemistry. You’re teaching your own mind it’s good to eat less. And this could seem small but in reality could become dangerous. Eating disorders are hard to get out of because firstly it’s a psychological problem and secondly sick people create dopamine whenever they don’t eat enough. They are literally high, just like a drug addict. That’s why they often need rehabilitation. And just like a drug addict you can go from drinking a glass of water to not eating for an entire day.
Restricting yourself from eating the foods you like, because they seem “healthy”. You’ll eat them anyway because you enjoy it and one day you will just break, eat more that usual, you’ll feel guilty and then you’ll stop eating. Then you’ll body will tell you to eat more, you will and the cycle repeats. There’s no such a thing as “healthy” or “unhealthy” food. We can divide them into carbohydrates, protein and fat. No food is bad, the amount of it is. Let’s say you’re like me and you love chocolate. I eat it everyday. Because it’s not bad. Eating sugar (carbs) isn’t bad, if you have one piece of candy. Having a whole bag of candy is bad, because you only eat carbohydrates. A healthy diet is a well balanced diet. If you eat apples everyday that’s unhealthy, because you give your body vitamins that only exist in apples. You have to eat an apple on Monday, on Tuesday eat a banana, and on Wednesday eat an orange. It’s not about the food, it’s about the balance of eating everything.
What helps you keep that balance is a 80/20 rule. Only 80% of meals should be well planned and high nutrient. 20% is that Oreo cookie that you want. It’s impossible to eat healthy meals all the time. This method makes you feel like you don’t restrict yourself too much to loose weight so it’s easier to stay motivated.
Cookie is not an apple. Never say you’ll eat an apple when you crave that cookie. It’s not going to satisfy you at all. You want a cookie so you go to eat it. If you want to eat fried chicken for dinner, are you going to be happy about getting a salad? Eat it but keep in you mind the rule above. If you eat that cookie the next snack you should have is that apple.
Changing your entire routine. This also makes things harder. Not impossible, I know people that quit smoking in one day. But changing your whole routine is a shock for your body. This includes your diet and exercising. If you’ll go to the gym and spend an hour running on a treadmill, then you’ll move to lifting weights for another hour, choosing more advanced and complicated exercises, you’ll start hating it. Not from the start, but slowly you’ll grow resentment because you’ll be too hard on yourself. This will feel like a punishment and it’s not supposed to be. Working out should be fun and eating well should be natural.
Small steps. Trust me. Running for an hour is bad for you if you’re not fit enough to do so. But trying to run for 10 minutes or walking more. You’re moving so that’s already something. And by doing things slow, step by step you’re building a habit which gives better long term results.
Loosing a lot of weight in a short amount of time. If you see an influencer saying they lost 30 kg in 3 months because of a miracle diet, ignore them. It’s impossible to do that unless you don’t eat anything at all. And this will ruin your body. Most of people that loose their weight like that gain it back after they start eating normally again. I could do a separate post about the consequences of loosing weight too quickly.
Cutting protein, carbs or fat from your diet. Your body is like a house of cards. The base of the pyramid consists of protein, carbs, fat, water and vitamins. Let’s say you’re not eating carbs at all. It’s like pulling one card out of the fundaments. The whole construction will fall aparat as well as your body if you do this. Unless your doctor recommends you a certain diet, don’t stop eating every type of food.
Comparing your results. We are all different and some people will loose their weight faster some will slower. Don’t compare your results with strangers. We all have different DNA. Focus on your own journey and experiment to find the ways that work best for you.
Also find a form of exercising that is best for you that you enjoy the most. You can do weight lifting, pilates, calisthenics, whatever you’d like. There’s so many of them. Don’t stick to one activity. And finding something that you like makes loosing weight way easier, because it won’t feel like a chore. It’ll turn into a hobby
Overworking your body. If you owned a Yorkshire terrier would you make it pull the sleight like a Husky even though you know they won’t make it? Or would you try to squeeze a German shepherd into a doghouse that was made for a chihuahua? Everybody would call it animal abuse so don’t do it to yourself and listen to your body. We all have limits and genetic predispositions 🤷🏼‍♀️🩷
These are only some of the things I came up with. I could write more if I tried but then I’d feel as if the post is way too long.
And I’m going to post it under the kpop tarot tag because I’m aware how idols look like. There could be someone that should read this 🩷🩷

I am once again pissed at diet culture. I just watched three tiktoks in a row. how to cook dairyfree. How to meal prep without carbs. How to make healthy snacks without sugar. I keep getting (and stupidly clicking on) those articles that are like "ten things you shouldn't eat if you want to lose weight" and "why xy foods are bad for you" and wouldn't you know it last week i got recommendated articles that said those specific foods were super healthy and great for weight loss and now i should "never eat" them?? Is there any food we're still allowed to eat without being made to feel guilty?

Hey how's it going? I would like to request one where the survivors/killers comfort the chubby reader who is feeling insecure about their body. It could be with David, Jeff, Joey and Evan
Yes, I can do that. In the future, three characters max please. Please enjoy. I'm going to change it to just be insecure about their body so I have more to write.
With a Reader who is Insecure about their Body
David, Jeff, Joey (Legion), Trapper
David King
Body insecurity is something he has never understood.
Then again, insecurity is something he's never understood.
David is a very confident individual.
Not to mention he has the body of a god.
So, he's never had issues with his body image.
So when he hears how you've been feeling, he's very confused.
"What do ya mean you don't like the way you look? You're the sexiest thing on the damned planet."
Aside from not being able to make a tasteful compliment.
He really means it.
And seeing you hate yourself for something he finds so amazing hurts him so much.
Anytime he sees you looking in the mirror he'll go out of his way to compliment you.
Even if they aren't the most appropriate.
He's not always the best with words.
"Damn, that ass in those jeans. Can't get enough of it baby."
He'll even cat-call you from afar while others are listening.
It's really embarrassing.
But he won't stop unless you tell him to.
It's just his way of trying to make you feel better.
If you really want to better yourself, he will help you with the things he can do.
He may not know a whole lot about weight loss or building muscle, but he knows people who do.
And he will sit down for hours and pick their brain to come up with a safe and effective exercise plan to help you.
He'll also ask them a lot of dumb questions.
"So, what's a carb again?"
"Wait, so if fruits have sugar, aren't they bad?"
But eventually, he'll get all the information.
And he will go out of his way to help you.
He'll encourage you through the whole thing.
He'll even write down all your goals and help you keep track of them.
Make sure you write down your goals too, because you won't be able to read his handwriting.
He's so proud of you and he tells you every time you're done with a workout.
And he'll remind you everyday how beautiful you are.
Jeff Johanson
Believe it or not, Jeff is very insecure about himself as well.
He knows he's on the heavier side.
And the scar on his face adds to his lack of confidence.
So when you mention you're feeling self-conscious about your body, he won't tell you to forget those thoughts or tell you how silly you're acting.
He refuses to gloss over your feelings of sadness by simply giving you compliments that won't help.
He'll acknowledge them.
"Love, you are human, and that's normal."
He'll tell you all about his own insecurities and how he has battled with them.
He will then point to every part of your body and tell you why and how much he loves it.
He could spend hours doing this.
It's so sweet and poetic.
He might even start crying because he genuinely means every word he's saying.
But also because the thought of you hurting so badly and hating yourself makes him feel like a failure of a partner.
He wasn't there when you needed him.
He knows he's not in the best of shape, so, if you're really serious about this journey to better yourself, he's going on it with you.
If you're going on a diet, so is he.
He may not know a whole lot about weight loss, so he'll ask people who do.
And he will create a perfect diet and exercise regimen for you both.
And you won't ever feel discouraged.
Even when it feels like you aren't making progress, Jeff will be there to remind you how strong and brave you are.
And how proud he is of you.
If anyone dares make fun of you while you're working out, Jeff will confront them.
"You're making fun of s/o, but they're clearly trying to better themselves. And that's more than I can say about you right now. You should be ashamed of yourself."
And he'll leave it at that.
After, those same people will be cheering you on.
Every milestone you reach he's sure to tell you how impressed he is.
And he'll also tell you how much he loves you every time.
Joey (Legion)
Joey doesn't catch on to things very fast.
You could be eating less or looking at yourself in the mirror more and he won't really think much of it.
It's only one you make a verbal comment on how much you dislike your body does he spring into action.
The first time you said something hateful about yourself his eyes nearly bulged out of his head in shock.
Joey's never really had body image problems.
The mask is just part of his identity, not him hiding himself.
At least, that's what he's forced himself to think.
The more you talk poorly about yourself the harder it is for him to sit still.
So, in order to help boost your confidence, he'll take his mask off in public.
Yes, he does feel uncomfortable without it.
He also needs someone to teach him how to shave better.
But he is proving his point.
If he can be confident with his flaws, then so should you.
If you really want to better yourself, he will help.
He doesn't really think about asking somebody how to formulate a workout that works for you.
To him, you run and you lose weight, right?
That's not how it works.
Eventually someone more knowledgeable will step in and help you two out.
He'll work out with you, cheering you on every step of the way.
Seeing you getting better shape has inspired him to do the same.
It has also inspired the entire Legion to do the same.
So now all of you work out together.
Now that you are feeling more confident in yourself with your body, you can help him find somebody to teach him how to shave properly.
Trapper
Evan is very observant.
He most definitely notices when you stop eating so much or when you look in the mirror more.
But he won't ask you unless he notices something serious.
He figures this is your private business.
And, even though you're in a relationship, you're still entitled to your own private thoughts.
It wasn't until you said something about yourself that he intervened.
He was so angry to hear you say such things that he will pick up whatever he's holding and slam it on the floor.
He isn't angry with you.
He's more upset with himself.
He should have said something sooner when he noticed.
He feels like a failure, that he wasn't there for you and your time of need.
But he will not let you talk about yourself like that.
Anytime you begin to speak that way of yourself he will stop you.
He will then proceed to aggressively compliment you.
It would almost be scary if he wasn't trying to make you feel better.
"You have the most amazing eyes, and I'll kill anyone who says otherwise."
Evan himself is not insecure about how he looks.
He sees the spikes through his body as more of an inconvenience than an insecurity.
And his mask as a tool to scare survivors.
Even so, he remembers a time when they did bother him that way.
And he had to deal with it all by himself.
He isn't going to let you deal with this on your own.
If you want to better yourself he will support you.
As long as you do so in a healthy way he doesn't care how it's done.
He just doesn't want to see you hurt yourself trying.
If you try anything like that he will stop you.
It's just because he loves you so much.

my mom is a dietitian. she's the reason i avoided diet culture, while my health classes basically promoted eating disorders. here's some important things i learned from her. TW: discussion of diets, food, and eating disorders.
you probably don't need to keep a scale in your house. unless you have health problems that require you to monitor your weight and it is recommended by your doctor, most people don't need to know what their weight is constantly. easy access to a scale promotes anxiety about your weight. i only get weighed at visits to the doctor, so i know my weight bracket. you don't need to know every tiny fluctuation. this is especially important for kids. growing up, i had no idea of how much weight i was gaining, so i was never able to associate my weight on the scale to my value. kids can't understand weight, and since they're growing they have to grapple with the societal notion that weight gain is bad alongside gaining weight because of their growth.
eating unhealthy food is better than not eating. i have arfid and a lot of my safe foods are unhealthy, but my mom keeps them stocked in the house while also offering to buy more healthy food to try. you need calories to live, and if the only way you'll get them is from "junk food" then eat the junk food. it's easier to add in healthy foods as opposed to forcing yourself not to eat anything outside of that.
sugar is not the devil that it's been made out to be. things like fruit contain sugar, but that does not make them bad. there is a difference between processed sugar found in candy and sugar found in fruits and veggies. you don't need to cut out sugar to be healthy.
fat is also not evil. things like avocados are considered "good fats". you need fat to live. it gives you energy and energy stores. also, being fat is not inherently unhealthy in the same way that being skinny is not inherently healthy.
carbs are good. complex carbs, like bread, give you energy for longer periods of time. by energy, i don't just mean physical energy. i mean the energy that keeps your bodily functions going.
calorie counting isn't helpful. unless you have health issues that require you to keep track of calories as advised by a doctor, you should not count your calories. calories are too simple to account for a good diet, and calorie counting often leads to disordered eating. you should focus on getting enough nutrients, and fuelling your body.
listen to your body. eat when you're hungry, whether that means meals or snacks. some people have issues with hunger cues, and if you have trouble listening to your body when it comes to diet i recommend seeing a dietitian. your diet is personal. some people need to eat more due to genetics, health issues, lifestyle, etc. you can't follow diets you see online and expect to see the same results as the person promoting them.
most fad diets do more harm than good. cutting out necessary nutrients messes up bodily functions, and most are done without medical supervision. they all claim similar things, but no diet will do the same for everyone. things like fasting often increase weight gain after a short period of weight loss. they also promote orthorexia.
nutritionists are not the same as dietitians. they don't require the same certification, they don't require the same education, and nutritionists aren't as regulated. dietitians are healthcare professionals, meaning they have to go through schooling and training and exams. people can't just call themselves dietitians. the same cannot be said for nutritionists. it's different depending on location, but most places don't require people to go through much regulation to call themselves nutritionists. they also don't face the same consequences. nutritionists can peddle fad diets and make outrageous claims without issue, but dietitians often work in hospitals and must follow the rules. dietitians also don't tend to run their own businesses like some nutritionists, which is an issue because it means nutritionists may have a financial incentive to support incorrect information. basically, if you need diet advice, go to a dietitian. nutritionist is a title that does not actually mean someone knows what they're talking about.
