The words you speak are the spells you cast.
Too many people are too reckless in their word choices and use their speech to hurt themselves.
Be mindful of how you are communicating, both with yourself and others. Start complimenting yourself instead of telling self deprecating jokes, start uplifting yourself instead of doubting yourself, start motivating yourself instead of criticizing yourself.
When you switch up your vocabulary your whole energy will change.

Real Sweet (But I Wish You Were Sober)
Barty POV, Rosekiller, TW: Alcoholism, idk what else- Pt 1 probably
It's a crowded party, filled with younger students drinking for the sake of conformity and older years drinking to get drunk.
Barty is the second type.
He stumbled toward an empty chair in the corner of the room, allowing him a perfect view of the Slytherin common room and its contents. He doesn't even notice when someone sits down beside him until he feels their lips on his neck.
Instinctively, he jerks back. However, thanks to his drunken state, Barty misjudges just how much force is necessary and accidentally ends up on his back on the floor boards. To make matters worse, his ankle hooked around his companion's waist and brought them crashing down on top of him.
It's a boy, Barty sees now, with golden-blonde hair and bright hazel eyes.
Evan.
The other boy is resting above Barty, peering down at him curiously. Circe, Barty thinks, he must be pissed. That is when Evan decides to shoot his shot for the second time, aiming for Barty's lips.
The thing is, as much as Barty wants this, Evan would never forgive him. Sober Evan, that is. Evan who has a pureblood girlfriend and a tendency to cry whenever Barty brings it up.
'It' being the fact that at every potential opportunity, Evan finds a way to get to the level of drunk that alcoholic's envy and makes an attempt to snog his best friend.
Sure, Barty indulged him the first few times. It was selfish, he knows that, to take advantage of his friend in moments of weakness. But can you really blame him? Barty had been falling for Evan since he first saw him on the Hogwarts Express when they were eleven.
Now, they are sixteen, drunk and accustomed to the pain.
Barty turns his head and Evan's lips collide with his cheek. Evan pulls back, looking at Barty with wide, almost mournful eyes.
"Rosie?" Evan smiles, remembering his fondness for the nickname despite the alcohol's effects. "We can't do that, okay?" Evan nods hesitantly but he's still peering down at Barty with piercing hazel eyes.
"Yeah, alright." Barty mutters. He does his best to manoeuvre out from under Evan without alerting the boy he's trying to do so. When Barty finally manages it, Evan's eyes have glassed over and, in truth, he looks quite sweet, if a little vacant.
While hating to shatter the image, Barty hoists him up from the wooden floor. Evan looks mildly disgruntled but he leans into Barty just as easily. He's smaller, just by a few centimetres and so much lighter. Barty can smell his shampoo.
Barty supports him all the way up the stairs and to their room. The curtains are drawn around Regulus' bed when they make it. For good measure, Barty casts a fresh silencing charm around him.
Instantly, Evan collapses onto Barty's bed, it being closest to the door. He curls in on himself and is asleep in what seems like seconds. Barty sighs, he's going to have to levitate him into his own bed in a minute.
Or just carry him. An unhelpful voice supplies.
Yeah! A fireman lift! Like in those muggle movies! Another joins in.
Barty rolls his eyes. "Fuck no." He whispers, turning for the bathroom. He strips off his shirt, well technically Evan's shirt, and turns on the sink to brush his teeth.
His gaze snags on the rose tattoo on his forearm, then the letters across his knuckles. Rosie.
Regulus had told him then, Most people don't get more than one tattoo for their best friend, if any. Barty brushed him off. I'm not most people, Reg.
Barty turns the tap off and heads back to where Evan lays. He hasn't moved an inch.
Do it, Crouch! The same voice says. Lift him!
"What if he wakes up?"
If a voice can shrug, this one does just that. Wing it.
Barty cursed under his breath. Still, the idea had some merit. A slight indulgence, but an indulgence all the same. It wouldn't really be all that different from supporting Evan as they walked up here, would it? Just a different kind of support.
Evan didn't stir as Barty swung two arms under him, nor while Barty carried him, in a fireman's lift as requested, to his own bed on the other side of the room. Not even when he landed, with a thump, on the top of the covers.
He didn't curl in on himself again. Instead Evan lay just as Barty had left him, on his side with one hand curled beside his face. A single strand of dark blonde hair fell into his face. Without thinking, Barty reached and tucked the imperfection behind Evan's ear.
This, of course, did wake his best friend up.
"Huh?" He murmured.
"It's just me, Rosie."
Evan fell onto his back, looking up at Barty. "Were you- were you watching me sleep? And where's your shirt?"
Barty felt the flush in his cheeks. "Why? Do you want me to watch you sleep?" Evan huffed a laugh. If he noticed Barty avoided the second question, he didn't say anything. "I'll see you in the morning." He turned his back on Evan who made a noncommittal noise.
Barty draws the curtains around Evan's bed with a flick of his wand and wanders over to his own.
Barty draws his own curtains, buries his head in his hands and doesn't emerge until late that next day.

σαφήνεια δὲ ἀγαθὴ μὲν ἡγεμὼν ἅπαντος λόγου, μάλιστα δὲ ἐπιστολῆς·**
- Philostratus
**Clarity is a good rule for all speech, but especially for a letter.
Two handwritten letters penned by JRR Tolkien have been discovered for the first time, almost 50 years after the death of the Lord of the Rings author in the The National Archives in Kew.
The previously unrecorded documents were unearthed by a volunteer working at The National Archives in Kew ahead of Tolkien Reading Day on 25 March 2023. Written in 1945, shortly after Tolkien’s appointment as Professor of English Language and Literature at Merton College, Oxford, the letters are part of an exchange with the British Council about funding for his research into early English languages. The correspondence centres on Tolkien’s research collaboration with Simonne d’Ardenne, a former student of his at Oxford, who shared his academic interest in historical languages.

Not that my writing is super great or anything, but I feel like I need to be guarded. Someone in a writing server I am not active in DM'd me and is asking me details about the book I am writing and I am not just going to tell my major plot points and stuff like???? Who are you, where did you come from, and if you aren't a writer why are you in a writing group?
"I am just here to read stories" okay go to AO3?

ehh
Im so so tired of all the discussions around S & R sexualities.
Story time: when I first read the books I assumed everyone is straight bc I was a child raised catholic with no critical thinking skills (though, I could tell I didnt like r/t that much but I couldnt really tell why). Then, after entering the fandom and discovering r/s I was like, oh ok, S could be bi. R could also be bi. Then I became more inclined towards gay S. Some time passed, I rejoined the fandom on tumblr. I see more posts talking about r/t being comphet and bi S agenda, and im like, alright makes sense, R is gay, S is bi.
But now Ive come to the conclusion it doesnt matter to me, in fact, I dont want to have a set headcanon regarding their sexualities. Bc im just so tired of seeing all these metas with canon info as arguments for/against comphet, for/against reading them as bi vs gay - and like, the metas themselv are great of course. I love metas and I love people writing metas.
But at this point it doesnt matter to me who is assigned which label and why.
I see them both as queer - partially bc of the canon info from metas I mentioned, but partially just bc I ship them together - and it certainly doesnt matter to me if the author intended them to be read as queer or not (obviously she didnt?? why is this even still being brought up I though we were over this??). They are not queer coded (that requires authorial intention) and they can be read as queer - but reading a character as queer implies a reader reads a character as queer. Its an interpretation. And yes, considering all the context of the books, reading R as a gay man seems like the best interpretation, but its still an interpretation. That I agree with, obviously. But its still up to the specific fan.
One thing confuses me though. As someone who doesnt ship r/t* - from Watsonian perspective: R was basically pressured by molly since he initially never voiced interest in T and in fact seemed to avoid her; form Doylist perspective: this was done with a great disservice towards T as a character - and generally agrees with all the context pointing towards R being read as queer man with AIDS / lycanthropy being read as a metaphor for HIV/AIDS - Why R cant be bi? I dont think he was into T - and Im not saying he was bi - but I dont see how thats an argument against him being bi in general?
But like I said. Idc at this point. They are both gay. And bi. And ace, while we are at it. Depending on a concept/storyline/fanfic I want to explore at this moment.
.
*and this shouldn't be needed to be said, but, just to be safe: doesnt have a problem with r/t shippers. this ship isnt for me, thats it.

as done as it can be until I buy more books/figures to put on the shelves. I am happy with it for now, but kind of regret having so many books that are not tv shows / movies so its harder to buy stuff to put on the shelves with them.

There is nothing more tragic than seeing an authot bare their very soul in their work and create this beautiful, tender piece of longing and pain and compassion and beauty and knowing that their whole life trajectory only consisted of becoming a worse and worse piece of shit. This is about Enders Game.

So I have been writing something on the mahabharata and thought to go through some of the popular media versions for inspiration.
[Instant regret intensifies]
I mean sometimes versions of the same thing might inspire you to do something different, I guess. I mean that was my logic but...hoooo mannn.. these are not different interpretations of the epic, these are like the Adipurush script writers had sold whatever they were smoking to the makers of all the tv versions.
I need brain bleach for atleast ninety percent of them.
I'll tell you what my opinions are (I just need to rant, please bear with me)
The StarPlus Mahabharata:
The Good:
Everyone (almost) looks good. Like casting was top notch. Eye candies walking around. The dialogues were pretty good. Some of their creative liberties hit the spot. It was the nicest version made tbf. And also, the best damned decision, SRJ as Krishna. (Say that again with me)
The Bad:
Inaccuracies galore. Also, stop simping so much on Karna. It looks pathetic. Arjun was charming alright but they managed to cut his badass skills to less than a half. My girl...Subhadra. What the hell did they do to you!!!! I hated how they showed her. The casting, the character arc... bleahhh! Duryodhan looked like a cartoonish villain and had little to no depth and Ashwatthama....whyyyyy *cries*
The RadhaKrishna Mahabharata:
The Bad:
Fucking everything. What was the casting? And why did everyone look so miniature? Except Karna and Bheem.. those dudes looked old. The story was shit. Even with their thousand and one fictional overtures. (What the hell was Krishna doing in Matsya during Virataparvam???). Kunti was a typical sasu mom villain. Arjun was a wimp.
The Good:
Sumedh is funny. And the guy playing Arjun looked like a baby. I wanted to pull his cheeks every time he came on screen (I dunno if that is good or just sweet). The only likeable scene was prolly Drau-Arjun making heart eyes at each other in that Mandir (cute couply moment and the bgscore is likable). Subhadra had some personality.
Sony's Suryaputra Karna :
:)
:)
The makers smoked weed and some combination of technicolour inducing hallucinogenic (most likely sourced from the Adipurush script writers)
:)
:)
WHAT THE EVER LOVING MIND FUCK WAS THAT?
See, I liked SP's Mahabharata's Karna (Aham Sharma.. ahem ahem) because of the creative liberties taken by the makers to make him likable. I didn't mind all of the inaccuracies. But this? THIS?
[*vomit inducing everything*]
The only two good things :- Dury was handsome (eye candy purposes) and Gautam Rode met his wife (can't help being starry eyed over meet cutes).
Karnasangini
See, at this point, I didn't go there expecting any canonical accuracy but just for creative purposes.
Good:
The sets were pretty. These dudes have money and they showed it (very cleverly copying Ek Dil ek Jaan music by changing the lyrics for Karn-Uruvi bgscore, they thought we won't notice, but we did) so everything was eye pleasing. Bhanumati was again... eye candy pretty. Karna himself (Asim Gulati meri jaan), too tragically pretty. I think this Arjun (baby but with beard, lmfao) was also the same guy as Radhakrishna MB.
Bad:
Uruvi (and I swear its not because I can't tolerate Tejaswini). The girl was the most annoying mc to have ever been written. I couldn't feel anything for her. I couldn't understand jack of what she ever did or spoke. The hypocrisy was sky high.
PS:- I would have totally enjoyed watching a version of Karna's life and the Kauravas pov of the mahabharata, had they made it properly (not whitewashing everyone on their side with fucking plaster while turning the Pandavas into cartoony villains.. sigh). Also I think, this one was adapted from the Kavita Kane book.
--------------------------------------------
One liners on the book [because, why not]
Arjun Without A Doubt (Sweety Shinde) :-
Literally ArDi fanfiction straight out of wattpad (just better writing to be completely fair) and the authot hated everyone else except Krishna.
Karna's Wife, The Outcast's Queen (Kavita Kane) :-
Could have been interesting had the writing not been so bad. Cartoony antagonist and protagonists and completely amateurish plot creation.
The Fisher Queen's Dynasty (Kavita Kane):-
I actually liked this one. It was a refreshing take on characters not usually written of.
The Rise of Hastinapur, The Winds of Hastinapur, The Rise of Hastinapur (Sharath Komarraju) :-
I liked his style and his storytelling. Wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea though. The characters are very controversially written. (Also, trilogy on the women of mahabharat.. count me in)
The Palace of Illusions (Chitra Banerjee Divakurni) :-
I had high expectations from her but... it fell flat on its face. This was the worst portrayal of Draupadi I have ever come across, anywhere, across any platforms.
The Amar Chitra Katha comics :-
Some of the most authentic retellings of the epic and I truly enjoyed going through all the individual copies and also the full three set volume they had.
The Song of Draupadi (Ira Mukhoty) :-
I loved this one. Very opinionated and very open to interpretation as well. It was a good read.
PS :- I haven't read any of Devdutt Patnaik's books (tbh I dont like the guy very much, as little as I know him from interviews on the internet) and I want to read Ajaya but haven't got around to it. Any more books that I should check out?
-------------------------------------------
PPS :- All of this has been written from a creative point of view. I did not see any of them for getting to see the actual mahabharata. It was mostly for fun. But now I wish people would make more individual versions of other characters depicting their story (EXCEPT FUCKING KARNA again)
