Something I think would destroy Michael when he finally got out of William's house:
At every turn, the adults who were supposed to care for him failed him. Now that he's an adult, nobody is expected to help him at all.

No idea how basically saying "I hope people who are being harmed on both sides are able to be safe once more" is "supporting a t3rrorist state" unless I'm missing something here?
About six months ago, the situation in G🍉za became so big that people were no longer capable of ignoring it. One month after that, Micheal Sheen(and other celebrities, I'm sure. I just haven't seen them specifically) posted this tweet down below:
Tumblr media
It reads: "On a day where those who have wished the same things and been punished for it my thoughts are with the Israeli hostages and their families and hoping for their safe release and with all the Palestine families in Gaza and hoping for an immediate ceasefire." (End quote).
While I am aware that his wording is not the best, and neutrality on the situation is not what we're looking for(and also, in a lot of cases, not possible), especially with people who have influence, I have a feeling that a lot of people are not putting these tweets in context.
This was posted five months ago. When everyone was still rushing to catch up with what we've been missing for the last 75+ years. That's a lot of information for anyone to digest. Much less being able to filter through all the Propaganda that was thrown together at that point.
Nobody is immune to propaganda. Especially when it is provided to us as fact. Celebrities are no different.
Now this is not to say "🥺🥺🥺 leave my little UwU soft boy alone you meanies🥺" he's a grown man. He can take care of himself. I don't care.
But I AM saying that when we see celebrities or influencers or creators or whoever saying something online about certain topics that are important to us(like the current g3nocide happening in G🍉za) that we need to put on our critical thinking skills cap and assign context and actually look into it ourselves instead of taking random people's word for it.
I had to Google this myself, in fact. Because I was seeing a couple out of place comments that didn't make sense to me.
However. When I did.
Tumblr media
The answer was right there. From the man himself.
Please guys.
Let's not burn bridges and ruin a whole man's career based off one tweet 5 months ago that was worded a little weird.
We've got a lot more things to be worried about than that.

I just found out that there are people out there who believe Jason Todd beats Cassandra Cain in a fight... What??? I am aware that there was a comic where he got good hits in but it was very obvious and even outright said that Cass wasn't even trying to win, let alone hurt him, by Dick. Also, if they're thinking about that one time Jason fought Bruce, Dick and Cass all at once and won, you have got to be aware of how ridiculous that was. Like, Jason, as much as I love him, is the worst fighter out of them. Still a damn good one, but compared to them, just no.
Like, Dick, the weakest fighter out of that trio has more than fifteen years of experience of vigilantism. AT LEAST, the timeline's weird so I don't know exactly how much. He's trained with Batman for around a decade, was such a good fighter that he caught Deathstroke's eye and has trained with him for a bit and many more dangerous people.
Bruce, depending on how old he is and when exactly he started training idk but I assume it was late teens or early adulthood, has AT THE VERY LEAST twenty years of training and experience, most probably more. Has trained with people all over the world, INCLUDING the League and has beat Jason without THAT much difficulty before. Post mortem Jason I mean.
Cass, if we count her as around eighteen, has fucking eighteen years of training, with David Cain and many other people he brought in for her to fight against, grown trained killers. Her training was the most brutal out of all three of them. Cain has literally shot her out of nowhere and then forced her to fight him right after to, and I quote, "keep her on her toes". It's been said by Batman, Deathstroke and probably other people that she could beat Batman in a fight. And people like to say that Bruce only said that cause he's self deprecating and that's honestly so insulting to him. He's hard on himself and has shit self worth over things like his parenting, failing to save people etc, but he is an intelligent man who knows his strength and his weaknesses very well and over OR under estimating himself would've gotten him killed years ago. CASSANDRA CAIN'S ABILITY TO READ PEOPLE'S BODY LANGUAGE IS SO INSANE THAT SHE'S BEEN ASSUMED TO BE META HUMAN BECAUSE HER SPEED WAS SO FUCKING INSANE IT WAS DEEMED IMPOSSIBLE FOR HER TO BE HUMAN. This one guy said and I quote, "Her individual moves are borderline human. It is her aggregate speed that's metahuman. Humans can throw a 100 miles per-hour fastball, smash concrete with their heads, and run 4.2 forties. What they can't do is all of that at once. It's not so much physical as... as mentally impossible. Too much to coordinate." Her ability, trained into her not just gained, is so fucking op these people have no idea how it's humanly possible. The only advantage my boy Jason's got are his guns and the fact Cass can't physically stomach killing people. Cass without that hatred of killing dog walks Jason, even without it actually. In the Batgirl volume 1, after she loses her ability to read body language (she gets it back later ofc) she gets hit and is then in shock because no one has managed to land a single fucking hit on her since she was six. She proceeds to beat the shit out of people easily and thinks to herself "I'm fighting like a child. Pathetic", as she barely holds herself back from accidentally crushing skulls.
Cass has been very much nerfed in the newer comics for plot's sake or because the writer doesn't know her character well, or most probably because they want to put a certain character on a pedestal. They've done it all the time and you can't honestly call yourself a fan if you actually think Jason, even with the pit rage and the guns and hatred that makes him willing to kill, would be capable of even beating Nightwing unless he's having a really bad day, let alone all three of them.
Point of this all is: Cass rocks and DC sucks ass at being consistent and actually paying attention to the characters they write. They actually made Cass a villain in one. She found out she had a sister, murdered her and a bunch of other people for no reason, found out Deathstroke had brainwashed her or something and then killed him. Which btw, she killed Deathstroke. Bro's a hell of a challenge for the Bat and she killed him. Still think Jason, or Dick or Bruce could beat her? An argument could be made for Bruce but even then they're AT LEAST on equal footing, though I think Cass would still win. Would be a hell of a fight and Cass would get some nasty ass possibly fatal injuries but she'd still beat him in my humble and accurate opinion.
Okay I'm done now. Longest rant yet. Had a lot of feelings about this particular topic, sorry.

What is Geeta like as a person? What's her relationship with Nemona?
I couldn't think of a way to organize this so it's just a bunch of bullet point headcanons now, sorry. Also it got really long so it's below the cut :)
I always saw Geeta as someone who was extremely intelligent and pragmatic but who has very poor social skills. She's graceful and smart and appears extremely put-together but she has the same obliviousness and pushiness that Nemona does. I actually think they're extremely similar, but while Nemona is just friendly and extroverted in nature, Geeta is more quiet and unnerving
Nemona and Geeta actually share many of the same qualities, both positive and negative. The same things make them excel in their respective fields (drive, intelligence, workaholic syndrome) and the same things cause them to be isolated from their peers (poor social skills, obliviousness, strong personality). I think they're both ultimately friendly, but come across extremely strongly and are accidentally intimidating because of the power / talent they hold in comparison to those around them
Geeta is extremely ambitious and goal oriented, which makes her an excellent administrator and somewhat painful to be around. I think she's very nice, don't get me wrong, but she's just hard to deal with because she's a bit Machiavellian and not always the most considerate of others' feelings (in the same way Nemona can be)
A huge part of the gym leaders' Issues (tm) with her is because of her strong personality. She's not mean or even a bad boss, but she's so intimidating by nature that no one is willing to air their grievances because they think she'll punish them. Unfortunately, Geeta is as oblivious as Nemona in that respect, and doesn't ever pick up the hints they drop about things they want changed. Gym leaders think Geeta is ignoring them or doesn't care, but she has no idea about this and thinks everything is dandy. She needs them to be blunt, but she's so unnerving that no one feels like they can be with her
The OTHER reason she gets along so poorly with the gym leaders is because she's a huge micromanager. She's quite nice, but getting a million checkups and reminders about things from your weird boss, no matter how well-meaning, is enough to drive anyone nuts especially when you're a full grown working adult
Something else that Geeta doesn't realize pisses off her coworkers is her tendency to not explain herself. She has very clear and logical reasons for all the things that she does, from how she distributes work to when and why she'll ask someone to take over for her in certain tasks. She never actually explains this to her colleagues, however, so it comes across as senseless, lazy, or random, which isn't really a good reputation to gain when you're the boss
Geeta is a complete workaholic and one of those people always trying to "optimize" everything. Woman who needs a chill pill and a vacation so badly. I'm convinced she sleeps in her office a few nights a week because "I can use that time to do more work instead of wasting it going home and back"
She sucks at battling and knows this. She is here trying to do the bare minimum as champion for the Paldean League to function so that she can save money until they can get a proper champion. She'll never say it, because she thinks admitting so would be bad PR, but she's *fully* aware of her team's issues and has zero intention of changing it. It's gogoat or bust she will die for that thing. It's always chewing on her hair in her office
Geeta adores Nemona, and genuinely wants her to be the next Top Champion once the position is uncoupled from the League. However, that requires more money than they currently have so she's waiting, since she knows that Nemona is not very good with paperwork and would rather focus on being the best battler she can. In the meantime, Geeta is her biggest cheerleader: she's always there for her, gives good advice, helps Nemona not make the same mistakes she did, and just otherwise keeps an eye on her. Geeta is fond of everyone in the academy, but Nemona reminds her of herself and she wants to see Nemona turn out better than she did
Ok ngl I think Geeta is just a bit of a weirdo (I mean this in the most affectionate way possible). She's not evil or hiding something or an alien or a robot or a pokemon or whatever she's just Like That
Geeta 🤝 Nemona Autism.

Hello!! I really like your AU and character design, but I would still like to know about the relationship between the Bakugan and their partners (about the very first six). I would like to know more about everyone) sorry for my bad english 👉👈
YES I LOVE TALKING ABOUT INTERPERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS, in my opinion it's more interesting than the strategy of the actual game (although I do have some ideas on that).
So I actually like how Dan and Drago's relationship progressed in the show, at least in the beginning. Unfortunately I think in later seasons Dan's brain rot finally got to Drago and they don't really have anymore conflicts between them. People definitely change, and are influenced by each other, but the show really favored Dan’s influence over Drago, until they both basically share a brain cell. Part of this is why I want to give Dan a new Bakugan in later seasons to freshen things up. When the two of them are introduced to each other, Drago was extremely uptight and dismissive of Dan, thinking him as a lesser species and is frustrated to be confined in such a small form and needing to return to Vestroia NOW. Basically like the show. On Dan’s part, he honestly doesn’t believe Drago at first, thinking this must be some event to kickstart the launch of Bakugan or something (“this is just a game, it cannot be that serious”) until he meets up with Marucho to talk about it and sees the Doom Dimension. At that point he’s basically with the plan one hundred percent! The only issue is Dan has really grown into the rebellious teen phase, but in a way that shows that he stands true to his ideals. I’d like to think that Drago is a big picture kind of guy, at least in the beginning; he thinks the ends justifies the means. This translates to Drago refusing to fight certain opponents if he decides that they won’t help him achieve his goal of fixing Vestroia. But Dan stays steadfast in his beliefs and they clash over the best way of saving their universes.
Runo didn’t start off as an avid player, only joining in once she heard that her dimension is about to be torn asunder by negative energy. Because of this, her relationship with Tigrerra starts off like coworkers lmao. Tigrerra teaches Runo the basics and Runo’s tactician brain goes haywire and she easily impresses Tigrerra with her strategy. Obviously they grow much closer over the span of the story as Runo gets used to talking to a mechanical ball and Tigrerra gets used to being one. Out of all of the Bakugan, I like that Tigrerra would be the most knowledgeable on the workings of Vestroia, mostly so that I can do exposition dumps without it sounding too weird. Any conflict that happens between them would probably be Tigrerra frustrated that Runo doesn’t seem to really put a lot of time or effort into saving their dimensions; while Drago and Dan both work around the clock on finding a way to stop the Silent Core, Runo still goes to class and to work and seems to treat this “saving the world” business like a side gig. Of course they work it out in the end, since Runo is fiercely collaborative in everything she does, she probably has connections to underground Bakugan rings or some shit, and Tigrerra and her scout it out to see if there are any sus shit at play. So while Marucho has the legal means of acquiring information, Runo and Tigrerra have extensive connections through the people (the two of them are a very menacing presence in the Underground scene, even if they both think they’re being super subtle). Through all this spywork, the two of them grow to be a very efficient team.
Preyas is definitely Marucho’s friend and therapy dog or something. At first, Marucho thought that Preyas was probably some fun feature his extremely scary and adaptive program came up with, so he sort of talked to Preyas because he’s lonely and bored all the time. In my AU Preyas stays a lighthearted goofball, but let’s not forget his original name was called Predator, so he can also be manipulative and works very selfishly. In fact, I’d say that Preyas and Drago, at first, agree on pretty ruthless plans to prevent the destruction of their world (Drago believes himself to be pragmatic, while Preyas just really wants to go back home). Marucho, who is very selfless and sensitive to other people’s attitudes, gives Preyas rants about doing things for the greater good or whatever, while Preyas laughs him off. He plays along though, because he knows that being on the programmer’s good side is a surefire way for him to get back home. However, as time goes on, Preyas starts to see how nice it is to do nice things, and that actions that benefit other people can also benefit him, and that doing good things for other people can help him too. After his brief stint as Klaus von Hertz’s plaything, Preyas realizes the error of his ways and starts to treat Marucho as a role model. At the same time, Marucho sees Preyas as a good friend who always lent an ear to his troubles. He was aware that Preyas could be self-serving, but my boy is so much of an empath that he’s willing to continue to be kind to Preyas in the hopes that he learns to do things for the greater good.
I liked Julie’s and Gorem's relationship back in the first season. The golem in Jewish lore has always been a strong, oft gentle protective force in their community (definitely check out Jacob Geller’s video essay on the Golem, it’s a very interesting compilation of Golem interpretations). In the beginning, before getting Gorem, Julie is feeling pretty lost in life; constantly comparing herself to her girlboss older sister, she and Billy are in a bit of a rocky part of their relationship due to it going long distance, she’s currently stuck on what her next steps should be. Gorem really grounds her (heh) and he lends an ear to her insecurities/problems. Like her therapist or something, except Gorem doesn’t know what college is. And the other way around, Gorem is now stuck in a new world and he has this childlike appreciation of the world. He wakes up to watch the sunrise, he loves the little birds that flutter around the city (in his ball form they’re humongous). Gorem is very easy to get along with; he prefers to listen rather than talk but when he does it’s very insightful. I think the two of them would have a harmonious relationship, I definitely see Gorem being the most mentally stable out of everyone in the group. However, while he’s very slow to anger, when he does it’s definitely scary. Julie isn’t an avid battler in the beginning, mostly because she was trying to learn three languages at once, but once the world’s at stake she definitely becomes a very fearsome battler. Oh, it’s also important to point out that Gorem is kind of the perfect Bakugan in-game; high atk, high def, absolutely broken moveset, etc. Julie isn’t half bad at strategy either, but after picking up journalism, she got too busy to brawl. And I guess Gorem passes those days with her and Billy in their cute little cottagecore house or whatever.
ALRIGHT SO SHUN AND SKYRESS, my favorite duo. Much like Julie, Shun is working through some intense shit before meeting Skyress. As the last thing his mother gave him, Skyress basically acts as Shun’s parental figure. She and Gorem would be the group’s wisest members. Shun has recently lost someone he was very very close to, and now he’s grappling with the grief of it all. I think at first Shun might be unhealthily reliant on Skyress. He looks to her for guidance and comfort, which she provides up until she finds out that her dimension is going kablam. That’s when she pushes him out of his comfort zone. He cares a lot for her and part of his character development is to learn to move on (truly hurts my heart but I think Skyress would be the first Bakugan to leave her Brawler, I think it would be good for him). I like to think that Skyress was actually his mom’s Bakugan while Shun has a different cool one like Monorus or something. Of course, Shun doesn’t wanna lose Skyress to the Doom Dimension so he actually holds off on battling for a bit, until Skyress calls him out on being a wuss and that he’s wasting his life away in his grief. In battle, obviously the two of them have great synergy and rise to number two on the leaderboards. I really liked Shun’s endless sunset trial, and I think it’ll be fun to have him slowly move on from his mother’s death, only to be confronted with her at the very end as a test of character. When offered the chance to be with his mom, who he didn’t have enough time with, he chooses to leave the past behind him, and to look towards the sunrise. God I’m so corny I love Shun so much.
Hydranoid with Masq is a very professional relationship. Masq has a single minded goal of destroying Earth, and Hydranoid kind of plays along with him. I’d like to say that Naga’s Silent Core affected him too, making him a more obedient thing to be puppetted with. Hydranoid is the youngest (however you measure Bakugan years) of the main six’s bakugan so I imagine his true self to be quite insecure and unsure of himself (a little like Alice). Sometimes in fights Masq would hurt Hydranoid so that he becomes stronger, and for a brief flash the true Hydranoid returns, scared and confused. When both Alice and Hydra are freed from the Silent Core, they both agree to give this brawling thing another go, of course after a therapy session or three. After the pain they inflicted on so many Bakugan/people, both of them are afraid of their own power, but they work hand in hand to manage it and shape it into something less destructive. Alice and Hydranoid's relationship is one between two siblings that had to endure a tough childhood together. They understand and empathize with each other deeply, and their bond is unbreakable. They support each other but are also able to let the other know when they disagree. Their relationship would be the strongest of all the six.
Whew that was a long essay. Anyway here are some random relationship facts between everyone:
Skyress and Gorem are the mom and dad of the group
Tigrerra has that monotone way of talking where you're not sure if she's being sarcastic, she's angry at you, or if she's maybe a robot
Drago's first meeting with Dan was in the middle of a battle, like in the show
gorem's Vestroian energy affected the wood carved toy Billy made for Julie, which is how Gorem's ball form manifested
I know i shit talk humanoid designs but I quite like Preyas'. But I will make him run on four legs to really show how feral he is.
Drago was a bit of a wild card in the beginning, opting for manipulation tactics to weed out traitors and cull the weak.
Tigrerra's first impression of Preyas was that he was working for naga and tries to kill him on sight
Alice is lowkey scared of Tigrerra
Once in a battle, Preyas tried to see if he could eat a Brawler. In Marucho's game boundaries he couldn't, but he suspects that if a person wandered into Vestroia they could be eaten.
Skyress and Tigrerra go on covert spying missions whenever Runo's busy
Drago spars with Skyress for fun. The two of them also do flying races
Hydranoid is highly unnerved by Preyas
This took forever to type. Good night.

Really apropos of nothing - from your perspective, anyway - but I do wish it were. Easier? Less open for exploitation? For artists to be able to explore the concept of shared / collaborative universes more often in the pursuit of creating original art.
(more discussion of topic under cut in the event no one cares lol)
I'll note first that I'm having a different conversation here than the ad nauseam one about an artist's right to own and profit off their intellectual property. We do not disagree on this point, I am staunchly in favor, always, of independent artists staking claim on what is theirs and protecting themselves with ownership and copyright. What I'm against is corporate abuse of this protection, because literally what do they need it for, they are billionaires. Eat my ass, my life has only been made worse learning that Disney tried to fucking copyright the names Thor and Loki. So, let's digress.
I'm coming at this from a background of having grown up on adoptables RPG forums circa Gaiaonline, it was a large portion of my internet community life; the concept of an adoptables RPG is tangentially related to shared universes. They have similar DNA: a collection of people all flocking to a concept and, through communal effort, build the canon together. It's non-commital, it's more than just you and some friends creating a story, it's a little like an open RPG except you get to keep whatever you made up if you decide you're jumping ship from Gaia to Deviantart because let's say you got into a weird internet fight once with a 22 year old over a PNG you paid fake money for, and have decided you really just don't need that kind of drama in your life now that you've turned 17.
Where they differ is in the most important aspect of one being open source by permission, and the other by design.
Collaborative works like Orion's Arm, or SCP for a more mainstream example, are fascinating examples of what I mean. The dedication to building open source fictional backdrops anyone can use for anything, for profit or not, that nobody can solely own. Of course, I feel like these examples exist so perfectly because the sci-fi genre has itself always been this way. D&D is also this way. Those are nice points of inspirational reference, but they're only two genres. Very specific genres, at that.
Because you have to sometimes consider, there exist people who want to write, or want to create, who are likely very good at these things, but struggle to come up with an """""original""""" idea within their topic of interest. Maybe their interest is so niche it's impossible to separate it from the original point of inspiration (see: every time someone calls out typing quirks as homestuck derivative) Alternatively are the people good at coming up with a multitude of ideas based on one topic, but no good at stringing them together into some kind of cohesive idea, or maybe just lack the motivation to do it. Not everything has to be a thing, sometimes you just want to share an idea in a way that matters without it being your magnum opus. Yeah, you could post them into the screaming void of the social media abyss, though it's hardly a satisfying compromise.
Imagine the work that could be created if there were genres upon genres of open source worldbuilding projects, and the safety of knowing the idea you're riffing off of hurts no one to use, as being riffed off of is its intended purpose for existing. Nobody owns it! We all agreed to that at the start! Go nuts! Sell it, if you want to!
"You're just describing fandom AU", yes, dear reader, astute observation. Shared universes are, to me, the natural evolution of a fandom. Instead of only joking about how, after a point, an AU is just an original story, or a certain amount of headcanons creates a whole new character, you take that joke to its logical conclusion. Maybe it goes under recognized as the next step up because we're all so focused on making fun of people for it, but to say so risks sounding spicy.
Anyway, I love collaborative storytelling, I love shared universes and open source material, so much so that I want to bake it into my own art projects. I want there to be more free art created and curated by independent artists, ensuring struggling independent artists who can't afford to be free are able to make their living. I want art to be more accessible beyond just access to products. I have exhausted the SCP wiki, and hunger.

WIP: more fake dating idiots to lovers, bowling date edition
Part of selling their bit is making sure they're seen around town together. Not just at that certain kind of club, either. No, they gotta go everywhere together. Of course they have to be careful about that, too. They do, after all, live in a society and that society has some stupid-ass issues with regards to what any given consenting adults get up to in the bedroom together.
But as much as Majima wishes society as a whole could just get the hell over it, he does admit there is a silver lining and that silver lining is: he and Kiryu don't actually have to do the kissy-kissy googoo eye(s) handholding shit in public. They just have to be seen together, in just the right context, just often enough that the right people start connecting the dots.
They go on a lot of nighttime outings, the kind that could be dates or could just be two guys hanging out after work. Mostly, they go out for drinks and karaoke, and they go just the right place for them. Earth Angel is an okama bar and everyone knows it, but everyone also knows Mama-san is a walking booze encyclopedia and plenty of straight whiskey fanboys drop in there for a glass and some education.
They go bowling once, and Majima becomes acutely aware of eyes on his ass and catches the gal at the front desk staring.
"Yeah, she does that," Kiryu says when he points this out. "She's got a fetish."
Majima picks up a twelve-pound ball, hefts it in his hands a bit, and puts it back. "You got no idea what that word actually means, do you?" Ah. A fourteen drilled for a grown man's hand. Better.
"I know what it means," Kiryu scoffs.
"Okay. Go ahead. Show your work."
"...you're not gonna throw from there, are you?"
"You're stalling."
"No I'm not. It's something that makes you horny. Take half a step to your right."
"I'm fine where I am."
"You bowl straight. You're gonna get a split."
"I don't do anything straight, Kazzy. And you're close but not quite--" Majima sends the ball right down the middle of the lane, straight as he isn't, and watches it leave the worst possible split in its wake. "Oh, that's bullshit!"
"Told you. You can wing it at the ten hard as you can and hope it bounces across, but you're probably screwed."
"Okay, genius. Why not the seven?"
Kiryu looks at him like he just asked the world's dumbest question. "You're right-handed. Do you want it in the gutter?"
"Now that sounds like a fetish. Anyway, a fetish--hup!" Majima's ball cruises neatly dead center down the lane and does not disturb either remaining pin. He does not dignify this with a remark. "--is somethin' weird that makes you horny. A straight gal gettin' her jollies staring at a guy's ass ain't a fetish. That's just garden-variety horny. You're up."
"She told me she works here because she likes looking at guys' butts when they bowl." Kiryu selects a ball, takes a position a little off center, and throws. The ball heads for the gutter, veers back, hits just to the right of the one, and takes every damn pin out. How the hell does he do that!? "Like... specifically when they bowl."
"Okay." Majima turns that one over in his head a few times. "Yep. That's a fetish."

Lazzle's Rune Factory 5 Review
Alright so here are my thoughts and experiences with RF5! This is a big boy so buckle in earthmates...
Obviously this review will contain spoilers, read at your own risk.
Initial thoughts upon playing...
Great opening! I enjoyed the jazz music~ I did feel like it leaned a bit more towards the male player though. It definitely feels like a rune factory game. It's familiar, and controls are easy to get accustomed to for the most part. The mold is there and rf5 doesn't stray too far from its predecessors which is comforting for veterans. That being said, I'm not going to pull any punches and will critique this game harshly. Keep in mind as updates for the game are released not all things discussed in this review will be as relevant overtime!
Let's hear some thoughts on...
The story/plot. The plot is enjoyable overall. I'm not crazy about the whole Seed organization thing but it was a neat idea. They address the Sechs Territory and it is confirmed that the game takes place some decades after RF4. But by the end of it, I didn't feel like I really accomplished anything because it felt like I barely did anything really. Also they left a lot of stuff unanswered. I'm not even sure I understood the message they were sending, if they were trying to send a message at all. The main story is too short, and it doesn't involve enough of the townsfolk. You're basically doing everything yourself in secret the whole time and the townsfolk barely know what's actually going on. Out of the love interests, Lucas plays the largest part in the story, followed by Priscilla and Scarlett. The story feels targeted at male audiences--at least that's how I felt. You, the player, have a larger role in the game, much like in RF3 and I was glad to see this. As of right now there are only two arcs. Praying for DLC 3rd arc...!
Protagonists. The latest protagonists to join the crew of Earthmates are...decent. Their designs are nothing special unfortunately, though I appreciate Alice's more than Ares's. Appearance-wise they lack personality and creativity. Personality wise I am pleasantly surprised with how sociable they are. They're not exactly quick witted and sassy like Lest/Frey were in rf4, or as endearing as Micah in rf3, but they have a certain realness to them that makes their reactions to things believable. I'm certain Xseed will see to making them a bit more sarcastic in their localizing efforts, so let's all look forward to that. Overall though, while I appreciate their mannerisms, they don't really measure up to all the previous amnesiacs we've grown to love over the decades.
Characters. Overall I enjoy all the characters introduced in Rune Factory 5! I feel like there is someone for everyone in this game on some level. The voice acting was pretty good for every character. The designs are very much Rune factory. Like OG runefa, compared to rf4 ( 4 kind of strayed from their usual style) which I like. Characters still have their own signature quirks that you find endearing. Although I would have liked to see more variety? Like we've had mermaids, univir, half monsters, vampires, etc in previous titles but rf5 only gives us the usual (half) elf, dwarf, and then a succubus (physically she doesn't have unique features aside from the ears and heart eyes), and some were-people. I was hoping for something more unique to really give that classic runefa vibe.
Dungeons/Battles. I'm pretty split on this one. On the one hand, the dungeons have more depth due to the 3D aspects. They've included more contraptions that are very fun to see even if they aren't executed that well. So I'm grateful for that. On the other hand, the dungeons are insanely short imo. It doesn't take long at all to get to the boss. The puzzles are also pretty subpar and few compared to RF4. Fighting monsters is similar to the other games. You can lock on now but I only use it when I'm trying to use my Seed Circle. The lock on feature is actually counter-intuitive and makes it harder to dodge. Weapon mechanics have shifted a bit. There’s a feature that makes you invincible to damage if you time the R button dash correctly. Axes and Hammers are significantly slower than in older games? Like. I thought I was in slow motion it was so slow. Lances are also harder to use as well? I'm questioning my sanity here. I don't know if it's a bug or intentional either.
Farming. Not much has changed from previous games mechanics wise. They added new types of special crops which is neat. The camera view changes to overhead when you go near your fields though, and it can make you dizzy/uncomfortable. It actually makes it a bit difficult to see at times so I wish there was a way to adjust the angle. If you are tilling corn or dried weeds to improve the soil, you need to place them separately if you don't want to use the entire stack. Otherwise, it will till the entire stack on the land if you place them all down at once. The flower shop is unlocked late in the story. Weird thing to do considering you need flowers to make medicine. Not to mention the fact that you wont have access to the fertilizer that increases defense against typhoons? During typhoon season? Thinking emoji...
The town. I have to say Rigbarth's design is poor compared to Sharance, Selphia, etc. It's too big and it takes too long to get around. Everything is too spaced out and there aren't enough warp points to make it easier on players. I don't want to walk an entire mile up a hill to talk to one person and then walk all the way down to the beach to speak to another. It doesn’t really feel like a ‘town’.
OST/BGM. Music was good, though nothing really stood out to me where I'd go "damn this slaps" or something. I think they might've had some old soundtracks from rf2 or something because it felt really nostalgic at times.
We need an exterminator. (Bugs Bugs Bugs)
Marvelous, I don't know how to tell you this buuut...your customers are NOT your testers. When you release a game, you need to make sure it's not littered with glitches because customers don't enjoy dealing with them and will drop the game!
Here are some of the types of glitches I encountered:
Crashing. Game would randomly crash or freeze and close at any moment. Sooooo frustrating! Sometimes you get lucky with the autosave feature, but the autosave only activates every morning at 6am in your room and then when you warp to a dungeon level/floor. So when you're in the middle of your daily tasks in town and it crashes, you have to start all over. Marveloussss no one enjoys losing their progress in a game I promise you that much.
Lag. The dialogue bar is seriously slow, especially after loading your file. Crafting/Cooking screen lags. When you press the Y button to skip through dialogue it lags like hell. Pretty much after every time you load the game will lag, the audio will lag if you're in a battle, everything is just. so. slow.
Repeating dialogue. So if you close your game entirely (or if it crashes) naturally you'll reload your file to continue where you left off. There's a bug that will cause all NPCs to repeat the last dialogue that occurred from whatever plot related thing you did last. So for example, if the last thing you did in the story was unlock Ludmilla, everyone in town will naturally have some dialogue about her. But even after seeing all this dialogue and even saving, if the game is closed and reloaded you'll have to read all that dialogue again from townsfolk. It got really annoying after a while.
Monster taming. One time I tamed a monster but once I named it and hit 'ok' the monster never showed up in my barns? Just. gone. Okaaaay then...? Additionally, I expanded one of my monster barns but all of the monsters I tamed wouldn't appear in the added room. You get 4 monsters for each room but the monsters I tamed would show up in the original room. Meaning I had like 7 monsters in one room! I tried to bring them into the newly added room but they would just warp back to the other room. Sad.
Pond Glitch. I fished in the pond located in Sasayaki Forest and left the fish I caught but didn't want laying around the water's edge. If you leave fish around the pond's edge and go to sleep, the next morning you will be teleported to the pond and trigger the fairy dialogue as if you had thrown all of the fish into the pond??? So the dialogue of her telling you she wants 'X item, not this!' will trigger over and over for all of the fish you left at the water's edge. RIP.
Party member Bug. I had Martin in my party and I made him leave. Then when I went into my monster barns to get a monster pal to join me instead it showed me Martin's portrait???? Also I've encountered a bug where I can no longer ask anyone to join my party for some unknown reason. The R &L button prompt was just gone when I reloaded.
Errors. When cooking or crafting, the dialogue box shows up sometimes...
Typos. Random average typo here and there. Not a real biggie but there is one instance where the heroine will use the japanese male pronoun "boku" instead of "watashi" which really convinced me that this game was completely intended for men lol.
Let's talk about Pros
The good stuff. The stuff that makes you all warm and fuzzy inside.
Plot Advancing. Now I'm gonna put this as a pro because I'm certain the average player will enjoy this even though I do not. There are now markers on the map to show you where to go to advance the plot. This is all well and dandy, but it also made the story less appealing for me because you don't need to go around town and speak to residents for clues or assistance to advance anything in the story.
3D Graphics The 3D models are all amazing. The interior designs of the houses/buildings are also incredibly detailed and realistic.
Collecting items. Now there's a feature that will allow you to collect items into your inventory just by walking over them. This is pretty neat and welcome for the most part. Once the item is sparkling, you can walk over it and it'll go into your rucksack automatically. This also makes lumbering and mining go much faster. Yay!
The miraculous L pocket. Now you can customize the categories that appear in your L pocket by going to the rucksack tab in the menu. This is a super neat feature that makes things easier on players who want to manage their items in a format that suits them.
Weapon/Tool Toggling. You can now toggle between your equipped weapon and tool by pressing the left or right buttons on the trackpad.
Collecting lumber/material stone. Oh lord this is probably the most welcome improvement moving forward from the previous game. You can now put all of the lumber and material stone from your inventory into its storage at once. This also applies to fodder for tamed monsters. Well done Hakama.
Autosave. This feature is a welcome addition to the series. The game will save your data every morning and every time you enter a dungeon. Autosave has really saved my ass a few times when I made a huge error in judgement so I'm incredibly grateful for this feature. And it doesn't save over your actual save file--there's a separate autosave file at the very top. So if you messed up something but already saved on your main file, you can still salvage your mistake by reloading the autosave! I just wish it activated a bit more often sometimes.
Warping. Now we can warp to each level in a dungeon as well as certain places on the map in town. It's pretty convenient for the most part.
Increased party members. Now you can have up to 3 members in your party! Hooray! Party members act more intelligently than in older games. Scarlett can use the Seed circle to assist you in fights. I think she also tosses healing potions at you occasionally. So far, no one has tossed a dish at me if I haven't eaten like Kiel and Clorica did in rf4. But I have been hit by a failed dish (from reinhardt?) and a healing potion (from scarlett). Scarlett, Priscilla, and Reinhardt are the most helpful when dungeon crawling in my experience. Some of them however, (looking at you Doug) don't shut the hell up with their one line of dialogue they have and repeat it constantly.
Seed Circle. This neat feature allows you to capture monsters. By charging it and releasing you can capture monsters for the bounty system or add them to your party temporarily. If you throw it without charging it, you can stun monsters in place momentarily or grab things from far away. When stunning monsters, it can also give you the monster's drop item occasionally. Unfortunately it uses a lot of RP so it can be difficult at times.
Combo attacks. This is a neat feature that I appreciate and use often for boss fights. They do some serious damage so it's good to save them for the bosses. The actual cutscenes aren't that impressive, and feel kind of subpar when you get down to it but I think it's a start in the right direction.
Farm Dragons. I'm listing this as a pro although I really just see it as a new feature. Farm dragons have fields on their backs that you can place monster barns on and farm on. Giving them certain crystals will give your fields boosts in certain criteria, like length of growth, soil quality, you get it. I personally don't use the crystals because I couldn't give a shit lmao I have men and women to woo here. But if you're into this kinda thing then it's a pro.
Storage. When opening your storage box, fridge, etc. you can actually hit the R & L buttons to switch between ALL of your other storages. Looooove thissss. Great addition. So much faster to put items away in their respective places.
Crafting/Forging. Now we can also use the R & L buttons to alternate between the different weapon types/accessory/gear types instead of having to exit the menu and going back in each time you want to make something different.
Cooking. More recipes have been added. Yay!
Days are longer now. More time to get shit doneeeee ayyyy
Fishing. They've added many more fish to the game! Now the player will shout something when you get a bite, making it easier for you to hit B at the right moment. Nice. Also if you fail or press B too early, the fish doesn't vanish most of the time. Also nice. There is now a feature to fish with another person's assistance. Once a day you can investigate the sign near the fishing station and someone might offer to lend you a hand. Press the B button at the right moments on the slider and you can get a rare fish that can't be caught normally.
Monsters. New types of monsters! Love the designs. Even the monsters that are the same but just have different skins are really neat. They look great in the 3D format too. You can even ride with up to two people on certain monsters! Some bosses had awesome designs while others...were bad.
New Types of Furniture. The carpenter store has a wide arrange of furniture you can buy for your home. It also has wallpapers and stuff which is really neat. Though unfortunately you can't even sit on some of the furniture so that's a shame.
Events. Now there is a system where events are triggered by approaching an icon on the map. This is probably an improvement to RF4's randomized system, though personally I found it annoying because it meant that I had to see the events before I could just enter a building normally. Sometimes I just wanted to get shit done and not have to read through walls of text for someone's love event when I just want to buy something.
Voiced Lines. The protagonist seems to have more voiced lines, as do other characters. Good!
Let's talk about Cons
Not including glitches. Oh boy. So many cons. Where do I start?
Dialogue. Probably the most notable con in the entire game. The dialogue is drastically minimal in comparison to previous games, especially rf4. There is probably a quarter of the amount of dialogue compared to rf4's insane amount of content if not less. Townsfolk repeat themselves. Often. Too often. Am I playing Harvest Moon? Originally I thought it was because the dialogue is randomized, but I think it's actually because more dialogue is unlocked as you raise townspeople's FP. Despite this, there's no linear build up where you start off as acquaintances and eventually become very close like in rf4 because of how sporadic the LP/FP is. Townsfolk don't even talk to each other. One of the greatest perks about runefa is the conversations townsfolk can have with one another. Residents randomly gathering in small groups to talk about anything. Previously you could add someone to your party and sometimes a dialogue will occur if you speak to the right person at the right time with that person in your party. This is nonexistent now. The only time they do this in rf5 is during the festivals. But, it will only trigger if you have unlocked all the characters in each marriageable lineup and they can't be in your party. The residents will talk about one another but that's pretty much it outside of town events. They got rid of all the minor dialogue that occurs too. Trying to sleep in someone's bed while they're right there? They wont comment. Inspecting objects in stores while the shopkeeper is present? Wont say anything. Take a character with you to a dungeon/boss fight? Their lips are sealed. Where's my sense of community? :(
FP/LP This ties into the dialogue issue. The rate at which LP/FP increases is sporadic as hell. You can go from 1FP/LP to 4FP/LP just by giving a gift sometimes. I wouldn't even speak to people and their affinity increased by like triple for no reason. Then it increases by like 2% for the longest time. Argh!!!
Graphics. I don't consider myself very picky when it comes to graphics. I don't really mind that the foliage and scenery are at the level of a ps2 game at best. I tried playing on my television initially, but the lag and camera operability was too much so I fully switched (haha puns) to handheld. One thing that sucked is that I literally cannot tell the difference between medicinal herbs, antidote grasses, and green grasses without the captions because the graphics are so indistinguishable. So when you're trying to pick up multiples of those items by holding the A button, you're just randomly walking over anything green in the hopes that you'll get the right ones...
Lack of Sound Effects. Something I noticed is they got rid of the sound effects that will play when you complete a puzzle or add someone to your party. When you try to brush a monster there's no sound for the '♪' they make when you successfully brush them. So it was hard for me to tell if I had actually brushed them or not. I was a bit saddened by the lack of cute sounds.
Too much free range. From the very beginning of the game, you're allowed to go pretty much wherever you want when leaving town. It was too easy to stumble into high enemy level territory without knowing, so when I was like level 5 so I got KO'd immediately.
Artwork. The portraits seem to be lower in quality somehow. Runefa has always had shitty portrait art imo but this time it's even worse. Many character's eyes looked fucked up. Though the 3D models are insanely good for mostly every character except Terry. Terry's 3D model looks Terryfying and I prefer his portrait.
Festivals. They've added some new festivals. Some I enjoy. Some not so much. They changed the format of the eating contest. It's horrible. Good luck with that one.
L pocket + R button? They got rid of the feature that lets you skip to the other end of your items when opening the L pocket by pressing R button. I really liked that feature because it made it faster to reach my items so I was bummed that they got rid of it.
Gotta go fast. Now when you speak to someone, it doesn't 'stop time' as you might say it did in previous games. So people are still moving about as you speak to someone, making it harder to catch up to people! Annoying!!!
Catch and release? Not in my farming simulator! Say goodbye to being able to toss a fish you caught back into the water. In fact, say goodbye to tossing anything you don't want anymore into the water. Now you just have an army of fish flopping on the ground around you. And with the auto pick up feature, they're probably going to end up in your inventory anyways once you try to move. There are still certain ponds with fairies that you can toss stuff into, but you'll have to deal with the fairy harping at you for giving her something she doesn't want.
Shop Hours. Oh god. The shop owners don't even open their stores at the correct hours? It says open at 9am. If you speak to them they won't open their store until like 9:07??? But Priscilla and Lucy will show up to work their part-time jobs at around 8:30am and you can buy stuff through them before 9am. So the actual shop owners (for the bread shop and general store) are pointless usually. Additionally, if the store is empty (but open) you can no longer add a shopkeeper into your party and then enter their store with them to buy things from them. Why. Just why. When you want to buy something that only a specific person sells (Only Hina sells fish, only Heinz sells misc items) you have to wait for them to finally decide to work in their own store. Wonderful.
Monster Item drops. Maybe I'm crazy but the monster drops are seriously a lot harder to get than in previous games. Especially boss drops. It's almost impossible to get the rare drops now. I don't even want to try anymore. And as far as I know, the only place to buy monster items is through Heinz, but his items are actually misc. items, not specifically monster drops. So you'll be lucky to check his store (whenever tf he decides to actually work) for any monster items you might want instead of farming for the drops. Sighs.
Difficulty. This game is too easy. There is little to no challenge whatsoever. I had to increase the difficulty setting to hard mode and it was still too easy. I beat it at level 139, never once did I need to grind or level. In fact, your character levels up way too quickly for the pace of the story. I had zero trouble with any of the bosses and even the final boss was a breeze. Quite sad. Though because I am not new to the franchise, it's likely that newcomers would have some trouble in the later parts of the story.
Fishing cons. Idk how you fck up fishing but they sure did. You have to stand further back now because the pole is so long that you'll miss the fish you're aiming for. In fact, it's seriously hard to aim period. You'll end up recasting more often than not. Fish come in the various sizes but they don't seem to have the darker or faded characteristics that can indicate whether it's a rare fish or not. The graphics make it hard to tell. The pros that i've already mentioned are welcomed but it doesn't negate the fact that I do not enjoy fishing like I did in previous games.
Mining/Lumbering Cons. You can no longer strike three times consecutively when mining/lumbering. This sucks lol. Even when you upgrade your axe or hammer, powering up the tool does nothing for getting wood and material stone--it only expands the area of your strike. So it takes longer to get wood/stone from stumps and rocks now since you have to strike the full 9 times but it's not too bad. It's also harder to aim now as well so that's also unfortunate.
Seasonal Fields? Kiss them goodbye! That's right, there are no seasonal fields in rf5 because devs are insane! You instead have the farm dragons that seem to look seasonal based on the fact that they are designed after elements like earth, water, and fire. But no, these dragons are simply extra fields for you to use. Here's a spoiler: you're not going to use those fields. You're just not. They're kinda useless unless you're obsessed with farming. Now you have to grow your crops out of season like the sad farmer that you are.
Farming cons. Seeds no longer tell you how long it takes to grow the crop. Why. As of June 29th, they fixed this with an update. But I still had to play the whole game without it so fuck you marvelous. The joystick is really sensitive? So when you're trying to use a fertilizer or something on your field you're likely to place it on the wrong 4x4 tile, wasting your fertilizer. So it’s best to hold down the R button when farming. Also the crops look uglie as hell.
Sleeping and warping cutscenes. Just like in rf4 there's a cutscene when you go to sleep that can be skipped easily by pressing A. In rf5, there's a cutscene to sleep and a cutscene when waking up. It takes a bit more than a second to skip these scenes so it gets annoying after a while. Warping is this new feature that replaces our beloved escape spell. Overall I appreciate the feature but I hate it for two reasons. One: there's an annoying ass cutscene for it each time you use it that could be much shorter. And Two: townsfolk now use warp even when inside the town. In previous games, someone exiting your party in town would just manually run to wherever they need to be. So you could easily chase after them if you need to talk to them or give them something. Now, party members use warp regardless of where you are at the time. So say you have someone at 7 hearts and you want to try confessing to them. You would have them join your party, save your game, and then have them leave your party and immediately speak to them and confess before they can run off. If it doesn't work you reload until it does. In RF5 this wouldn't work anymore because they will warp. Now you would have to save, run around town trying to find this person and hope they accept the confession. Otherwise you'll have to play hide and seek again because reloading your file will randomize the resident's locations (if they are not working in a shop)!!!! I often just waited until a festival day because then they will be at the plaza for most of the day and it has a warp point there.
Crafting/Forging/Cooking. They've removed the feature where you can press Y on the ingredients in the menu to add more of that particular item. I miss this feature :'(
Lacks incentive. There is no trophy room from my knowledge. The final dungeon that is meant to be like the sharance maze/rune prana isn't that hard to beat for skilled players and is only 20 floors. After you beat the main story and this dungeon there's not much else to do really.
Request Board. Unlike in rf4, you need to make sure you have accepted requests before you complete them or else it will not count. Previously, you could complete all sorts of tasks and Eliza would still recognize your work even if you accept their request after the fact. ie, shipping goods, harvesting crops, etc. So make sure you don't harvest your special crops before accepting the request it's for!
Return of the "Loli" Dragons... Yeah you read that right. We got more dragons in children's(???) bodies with skimpy clothes. I don't know anymore????¿¿¿
Can't marry the Milfs or Dilfs. Tragic.
Still no homo. Grow up Marvelous.
Reverse Proposal? Reverse Uno card-- Laid low by the patriarchy. You now have to buy the double bed and craft an engagement ring to propose to your man if you're playing as Alice. Marvelous this isn't what we meant when we said we wanted equal rightsssssss This can be seen as a pro if you're a softhearted babey who doesn't like rejecting bachelors' proposals because you feel bad :'( But this is a con for me because I don't want to spend money and materials on a double bed dammit!!!
Misc. Still can't stack dishes or fish. There's no green elemental fairy???All the other elemental ones are there except the green one? why??? Still can't tame the giant Wooly. Some bosses that have insanely awesome designs cannot be tamed and makes me wanna eat glass.
Let's talk about Love~
Relationships. We want them. And half of us only play these games for them. I've only played as the female heroine so far but I'll be updating this review as soon as I finish with the bachelorettes as the male hero.
Confessions
As usual, we must raise the love points of our beloved to 7 hearts before we can attempt to date them. However unlike in rf4, if you fail at a confession once, you will need to raise the LP up an entire level before you can try again with any chance of success. It's imperative you save before attempting a confession now.
Love Events
Each love interest has two love events that must be seen before you can date them. They're reminiscent of older game's style but I felt they could have been a biiiit more interactive or so? Or involved the town a bit more for some of them.
Dating
Once you get your honey to be your bf/gf, you get to choose the nicknames as usual. Then you can go on dates. The first three (non-festival) dates are actually events. You need to see all three events to get married.
Marriage Event
The final event you need to clear before you can marry your sweetie. In my honest opinion, so far for the boys, these events were rather disappointing. They lacked the drama and angst that sort of 'test' the love between the two when compared to rf4. Also this is a huge con for me personally and a minor spoiler but there are no special cutscenes at the end of the marriage event like in rf4. Instead, the cutscene takes place during your actual wedding. I was saddened by this because it took away the depth from the marriage events and the actual character? As it is just a cut and paste type of thing instead of an original cutscene for each person. They lack individualism this way. Also it kinda felt like a way for devs to avoid gay relationships and cut corners :^/....sus.
First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes...
Children!!!!!! This is actually one of the coolest additions in the game. Just like in rf3, you can have up to 3 children again! Your first child will resemble you, and you will have the option to choose its gender as well as its personality. There are 6 different children, (3 boys and 3 girls), all with different hairstyles, mannerisms, and seiyuus. Your answers will determine which child you get. A year after your first child is born, you will get the option to have a second child. You'll end up with twins, both resembling your partner. You won't get to choose the genders (it will be a boy and girl) but you will get to choose the personalities once more. The children all have canon names too and each kid is incredibly cute. And of course, you're still able to take your kid with you in your party~ ...Though you can only take one kid with you at a time.
So is RF5 good?
Yeah it's a fun game! My theory is that Marvelous forced the devs to release the game earlier than they were ready for, and that's why it's so lacking. But that doesn't mean it's not worth playing! I'd rate it 3.5/5 stars hehe. Not nearly as good as RF4 (full stop 5/5), or RF3 (4/5) but enjoyable nonetheless. I wouldn't recommend it as a first game to play from the series for newcomers though, I feel it's best for vets who can overlook all the cons thanks to loyalty and nostalgia. By the time it’s released in the West, the bugs should all be dealt with too.
So! Definitely buy this game! We want the series to continue and we want RF6 to be better than this--and hopefully Marvelous will make sure of that next time. If you're not a picky person I think you'll enjoy rf5 a lot. If you're like me and have high standards then, well, still pick it up and let it run its course. Then dust off rf4sp and cleanse your gaming palette >;^)

Aight I'm a good 6 years older then Yeonjun, and I don't stan any 4th gen groups, but fucking Yeonjun and Taehyun dragged me kicking and screaming into TXT when they passed their cutie concept phase and I can't get out. I couldn't find anything for Taehyun on your blog, maybe I didn't know what to search for, but how do you see him? Soft dom, hard dom? Switch? Sub? He gives me a really, really interesting vibe. Very intense, as if he's not afraid of anything when it comes down to it and would try anything, but also reserved?
ahahahaha, i feel you—i'm right around your same age i think and i was lured in by Soobin being an adorable Jin stan, only to find out that once i was in the door, Yeonjun was waiting there to ambush me with his face and his voice and his stupid sweats that say "run up" right on his dick. 💀
you were probably searching just fine, it's just that there was nothing to find! this blog's only a month old and most of the asks i've been getting are about Soobin. so nearly all of what i've been writing is about. Soobin… 😂 (this is NOT me telling anybody to stop btw, i love it, i just also think it's deeply hilarious when the point of this blog was to stop yelling at my roommate about petplay and just write about getting railed by Bang Chan in a fursuit😂😂😂) re: searching my blog, tho, the most consistent set of tags i have is [group name/abbreviation][emoji]; for txt it's txt👾. if you're in the browser, you can find them all to the right of the page under 'Trending Tags'; i also have a link in my pinned navi post, but i'll add them all as actual tags to that post too, just so they're easier to get to.
i wasn't actually planning on writing for Tae or Hyuka, even though they've hit age of majority they're still very much cutie babies to me. (watching Hyuka in Lovesong felt too much like watching a babby cousin try to relive my high school days on tiktok 🥺) i DO know that the latest teasers have been fucking people up, tho, so like. check back in a bit and i might be singing a different song. 👀 (also if anyone wants to send anything my way that might make me change my mind... 👀👀👀)
looking at your question from my currently extremely clinical, well-hydrated perspective, tho—
i think you actually have a really good read on Taehyun! especially in regards to him being kind of reserved—when it comes to romantic/sexual relationships, he’d be very cautious with his feelings up until a certain point, but if you DO manage to get that far with him, then it’s all or nothing—like, following you out of the shire all the way to mt. doom kinda all or nothing. 🥺 and he's definitely the type to only get into d/s stuff with someone he really trusts (honestly, i don't think he'd even get too far along with vanilla physical intimacy without that level of trust, unless something had him really caught up in the moment). once you’re that person, though, buckle the fuck up cause you weren’t wrong about intensity. 😅
he'd take any kind of power play really seriously, even if you’re not interested in doing anything hardcore at first. he does a lot of research and wants to have serious, sit-down talks about what you both want and need, even if he has a hard time looking you in the eye for the first few conversations. it’s actually probably very sweet, because he tries really hard to make sure that you’re comfortable, even as you can see he’s clearly struggling.
Taehyun definitely starts things out sitting across from you at a table because that’s how Serious Grown-Up Converations happen, right? reach over and hold his hand, or better yet, make him move over to the couch with you to cuddle. he’s the type to get into his own head about this kind of thing, i think, so a reminder from you that this is something you’re both in together will go a long way towards him chilling the fuck out. especially if you’re older/more experienced than him—he won’t admit it, but he’s probably looking to the way you behave for cues and feeling like he’s got to try and keep up with you.
i think his personality would have him be slightly more inclined to dom, but inexperience might make subbing a little easier on him to start with; a lot of it would also depend on his partner. so basically, he’s switchy but distinctly dom-leaning. either way, he’ll want to go hard—while for some of the boys, i feel like d/s dynamics with them are more of a natural extension of your regular relationship dynamics, Taehyun would want them to be something distinctly different from your day-to-day. this isn’t a boy who goes halfway with things; whether he’s domming or subbing, he wants it to be exciting and intense and boundary-pushing. by the time the night is over, aftercare will involve putting one of you back together again.
once he’s confident he knows what he’s doing and (most importantly) knows how to read you, he’d honestly be a dream of a dom. he’s observant and careful, learns all your little nonverbal tells, so he knows what you’re feeling maybe even before you do, and uses that to play you like an instrument.
he’d be a really great partner for experimenting with, too, i think. unless it’s something that really squicks him out, Taehyun’s willing to try pretty much anything you’re interest in at least once. going to him with new ideas might be a little intimidating, because he’s more serious and measured, and not the type to immediately jump onboard enthusiastically like some people would *cough*Yeonjun*cough*, but he’ll always hear you out and never judge or shame you for what you want. even if it’s something he’s not that into at first, he’ll read up on it and look up videos; he’s the type of person whose response to “weird” kinks isn’t ‘what the fuck?’, but ‘what’s the appeal there?’, so he ends up rationalizing himself into a lot of new kinks, including most (if not all) of yours.
the only thing i would worry about is honestly him not letting you know where his limits are—he feels like the kind of person who would have trouble safewording when you hit a point that's uncomfortable for him in a scene, just because it's not something he brought up while you were establishing boundaries and rules. he’s the type to be very concerned about safewords and hard limits and aftercare for you, but forget that those things apply to him as well. if the way you two play gets really intense, you’re probably going to hit a point where you need to talk to him about being upfront and honest about what he needs.

Spill your thoughts pls✋😩
Tumblr media
@lacewing707 honestly, my many thoughts on this can be condensed to some very simple, uncontroversial opinions: if executed and implemented well, love interests getting together with other NPCs can be good. if executed or implemented poorly, it can be off-putting and hard, even impossible, to enjoy. what constitutes good and bad execution will always vary to some degree for readers. and some people prefer their interactive fiction without this possibility at all, whether it's done "well" or not.
what i do not fuck with is the strong sense of reader entitlement coming off of a lot of the sentiments in that thread. frankly, mostly coming from one person, but vocally and repetitively enough that the whole thread has become a circlejerk of either dismissing or coddling this specific perspective and arguments being made from that circle of thought.
like, in no universe am i "giving" my characters to anyone by writing them in a book. this is not me making some absurd claim of ownership over characters once they are made public and people are invited to engage/interact with them. but it is me saying a big FUCK NO to the idea that the decent thing for an author or dev to do is try to cater to every conceivably disliked mechanic or theme in their story Especially since the thread was not being specific to romance games and dating sims. *But more than anything, it's a big FUCK NO to the idea that ROs being given real lives in the form of a romantic relationship without the MC involved is some sort of super jarring, unacceptable thing that writers would only do for selfish reasons and that it subliminally indicates that the MC/player (because honestly, i think that's what the issue is) must be less worthy of an RO's love 🙄 dear god this is so juvenile a take
It feels like there's an elephant in the room. That elephant is that some people attach themselves to fictional characters to such a degree that they take certain writing decisions personally and seem to view authors as responsible for whatever negative feelings result from that personal investment and disappointment. sorry but nah—i ain't yo mommy and either you're a literal child and you'll get over it and find something else to play or you're a grown adult and you NEED to be over it and find something else to play. making character judgments about writers and players who don't see this as a big deal makes me so irritated.
im also glimpsing some very demented (imo obviously) twisting of the concept of consumer/reader interpretation vs. author's intent. i have read every post in that thread but this main point of conceit keeps just boiling down to this to me:
some people get jealous over fictional characters and some people do not and cannot.
as a writer, i am happily in the second camp. and, ngl, having surfaced from the toxic world of online fandom a long time ago, people in the first camp either annoy the fuck out of me or give me the worst of vibes. if i don't even feel this intense ""ownership"" of characters that literally only exist because i conceived of and created them, I frankly don't have much sympathy and certainly not a lick of respect for the idea that readers—who will never have the full picture of my characters because it's literally impossible for anyone who is NOT me—do.
Maybe when I'm dead. idk, the vibe is very fucked in that thread imho. I am very, deeply opposed to treating possessiveness and jealousy like normal, healthy, valid reactions to everyday, does-not-impact-your-life-in-any-way-outside-of-entertainment-or-superficial-fulfillment, bullshit. it's too adjacent to how fans of a medium will sometimes start claiming a weird ownership of creators too. makes me ill.

//tw mild mention of sexual urges so ig slight nsfw ???
//also slight vent
//but this is a massive part of my asexual journey
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
It took me a very long time to realize I was asexual. When I was 12 was around the time my breasts really started growing in, so that was the time my mom decided to have "the talk". Now at 12 all I knew existed was straight or gay. I didn't even know bi was thing. I was young and clueless. Never even thought that maybe there were people in this world who didn't want anything to do with the,,, bedroom business 👍
I was so confused because even at just 12 I already wanted nothing to do with it. But because of the way my mom described it,,, she said if it was between two people who loved each other it was a "beautiful thing" .... 12 year old me felt there was something wrong with me. I needed to learn to... Like it.
For about 2 years I struggled with urges. All the new information was spinning in my head and weird new ideas were forming in me. I hated it. But I'm the kind of person to not wanna bother anyone with my problems, so I suffered alone.
When I was 14 I learned about a certain m word,,, and how some asexuals will do it to get rid if urges. I tried it, I hated it, I moved on. Proceeding to struggle with these urges for 4 more years. Until recently. The urges were something I didn't talk about to anyone. I once mentioned how I still had perverse thoughts sometimes and I hated to my friends. Idk what was different lately other than my character obsessions. Previously I obsessed over anime boys, but when parappa came along I just... Became really soft and sweet ?? And even when oswald appeared and I found myself in love with him... Never had a single weird urge. And honestly I feel like a weight was lifted off my shoulders. I hate nsfw content. I try to keep my content as clean as possible. If I ever have any sort of perverse thoughts I would keep them to myself and beat myself up over it. It would get me to the point of tears because I would feel like a hypocrite. "Oh you preach the good word but you can't keep your own thoughts at bay, god you're disgusting"
But I kinda had to remember it was normal for some asexuals to have these thoughts,,, that in fact it was normal for a human in general to have these thoughts, and that a massive chunk of why I was having the thoughts in the first place is because I was influenced by the media I started consuming when I was 12 to 14 trying to become more "adult" when I didn't realize that you don't need that shit to be an adult.
Lately I've had a struggle because I literally don't wanna do that shit and it's driving me to not even wanna get married in the future because I don't wanna do it, I hate the idea of anything going inside me and I hate the idea of having to push something out of me. So I don't want the bedroom business or child birth. But I try to bring it up to my mom and she tells me how I'll be ending the bloodline. How I need to give her grandchildren. Cries and tells me she doesn't want me to be alone. Maybe she thinks she's considering my feelings with that last one but honestly I've grown so independent that I don't care if I'm "alone" because I am happy with the people I talk to and my precious bunny bf Oswald.
I'm very nervous to come out with this story but,,,, I just have a feeling some of my fellow asexuals might need to hear it, and I haven't seen a lot stories like it.
You've got this, I believe in you !!

BTS Princes!au
Note: 1)This is a modern Royal family! au headcanon. (I never saw any fic with the BTS members as brothers of a royal family, so why not post about the concept. 🤷🏽‍♀️)
2)All the members of BTS are brothers.
3) Yoongi and Hoseok are twins, and Jimin and Taehyung are twins, too.
4)This takes place in the present time.
5) I will make a separate headcanon for each member (how they meet their significant others and the weddings details)later, also might turn it into a series if it gets good response.💜
6) last but not least, none of the photos included are mine, only the edits are made by me.
Tumblr media
First things first
Maknae line are so hard to tame, I am telling you.
Yet, the queen loves to pamper them because they're her babies.🥺
Hyung line are so formal and collected, unlike the maknae line.
They are always carrying out royal duties.
They are so concerned for their subjects.
Hate the idea of leading a lavish and luxurious lifestyle while there are people out there who are suffering.
Therefore, you find each prince supporting different causes.
Jin would be supporting organisations that help single mothers.👩‍👧‍👦
Yoongi and Hoseok would focus on mental health.🧠🗣️
Namjoon definitely supporting education.🎓🏫📕
Taehyung promoting environmental causes.♻️
Jimin would probably be interested in organizations that focuses on the issue of plastic pollution.🏭
Jungkook supporting anything related to physical health maybe doing something like The invictus games as Prince Harry did.💪🏼♿
But the nation has never been on edge like this since ages, everyone can't wait to see each Prince's choice of their future spouses.
Plus don't get me started on the idea of 7 different themed, royal weddings .... OMG!!!👀💃🏽
It got to the point that whenever any of them is seen with any woman then it's instantly assumed that she'd become a future Princess. 👸🏻👸🏼👸🏽👸🏾👸🏿
The king's advisors would suggest that he talks to the boys upon the matter since they're becoming of age and should start families of their own.
But he won't force them to do anything tho.
Like he'd discuss it with their mother while they're all out doing a traditional royal activity or something.
The Queen getting excited over the idea but won't pressure her boys just like their father.
The boys won't focus on that matter, they want to focus on helping the people more.
But that doesn't mean that they haven't thought before about meeting their significant others.😉
Especially when their parents, the king and queen, set a great example for love stories.
But they find it hard specially with all the attention being on them which is not giving them the space to focus on their love life.
During one of the rare interviews that the Palace allows them to do, the 7 Princes agreed that they won't mind marrying a foreign girl.
The King and Queen wouldn't mind, too. The most important thing is that their sons are happy.
Each one would meet the love of his life unexpectedly.
Surprisingly, first one to be in a relationship is Jin.
I know everyone said it would be Jungkook, but the poor boy can not imagine to put his future Princess under the spotlight with his lifestyle, so he preferred to wait and see how it would go with his hyungs.
Plus he didn't want to be the first one to settle because the intensified attention on him that will get worst as he's the golden maknae.
The last one to likely get married or settle down is probably Yoongi.
Everyone knew it really, especially the Queen.
When Yoongi was a smol baby,👶🏻 she realised that he cherished spending time by himself.
Don't get me wrong tho, Yoongi was a sweet baby.🖤
He got along so well with Hoseok and Jin.
He even loved playing the part of the big brother when the world welcomed baby Namjoon.
He would hug his siblings if anyone of them was crying and needed comforting.
She could remember that one time Jungkook was crying his heart out because Jimin snatched his favourite toy, and Yoongi would immediately comfort Jungkook and share his favourite blanket with him, but not before reprimanding baby Jimin and making him apologize to his little brother.
Such a sweet baby 🥺💜.
But again...
It's just that the Queen noticed that her second son was not really into being a sociable person like his brothers.
He can definitely be sociable, it's just he prefers not to be.
And because of that, she knew that her Yoongi won't settle with just anyone, and that it would take time.
The king is such a proud father because all of his 7 sons are hard working and passionate about their duties.
Jin and Namjoon are definitely the ones who lead most of the important royal events.
Jin is mature and knows how to handle himself with the public and the press.
Something that the maknae line still has to learn and perfect, that's their father's opinion.
while Namjoon is really well read in politics as it was his major.
So Jin and Namjoon definitely make a good duo when it comes to the political affairs of the country.
Hoseok,Jimin, Taehyung and Jungkook are most likely the ones to be on the first page of the newspapers almost everyday.
As I said the citizens would be very interested in the life of their future rulers.
Therefore, the boys are always under a microscope.
Especially those 4 because they're bold and reckless, but like not in a bad way.
With the world evolving around them, many people do realize the fact that the concept of a monarchy is old news.
And that's why these 4 are working so hard to evolve their monarchy and keep up with the changes taking place.
Therefore, they manage to surprise their subjects by their open minds and their updated thoughts upon almost every matter.
That's why you can find them all over the global news every now and then more than the other monarchies.
The boys would all probably travel abroad to complete their education, then come back to enlist in the army.
Jin enlisting first of course as he's the oldest and finishing before them.
Then Yoongi and Hoseok complete theirs.
Followed by Namjoon
Then Jimin and Taehyung
Finally, ending with Jungkook.
And let me tell you something...
The Queen cried the hardest during Jungkook's ceremony.
I mean she did cry during the other ceremonies of her sons, too.
But Kookie's was the hardest.
Because that's her last baby🥺.
Plus you know how mothers always pamper their last child. ALWAYS.
It's so unfair.
The boys sometimes think that Jungkook is her favourite, but that's not true.
She loves them all equally.
"It just hits differently when you're letting your youngest baby off to face the world because he/she is all grown up now."
That's what she always says.
Now let's move on to the important stuff ...
The Queen has an important event at which she will be bored to death?
Don't worry😊.
Leave it to her youngest twins and Jungkook to accompany her.😈
They always know how to make their mother laugh when things get way too boring.
Of course they would all show up with all their glory 😉.
Tumblr media
The Queen is so proud of her babies.
Like who wouldn't be proud of having 7 perfect handsome boys who are well mannered and such gentlemen.
They are so smart and are always up to learn more.
Here's how they turn her boring night into an eventful one:
Make her laugh over their silly attitude towards eachother.
You know like, Jungkook teasing Jimin for being short.
Or Taehyung squishing Jungkook's chubby cheeks.
Never fail in making their mother laugh.
But now moving onto the serious part.
Once the event starts.
They become focused.
Start firing questions. (Politely of course).
Want to know more about the matter discussed at hand.
Will intimidate the host by the amount of questions being asked.
Which leads other hosts to remind themselves to be prepared beforehand in case the 3 Princes decide to show up ... No one wants to be embarrassed in front of the royal family and the public and be accused of not knowing a certain detail about the matter they're responsible of.
The Queen would have a big proud grin on her face.
Proud of her babies for being so invested in the matters of their country.🤗
Now moving onto the older twins: 😉.
Tumblr media
You know, everyone told the Queen that having twins would be a really unique experience.
And it was true.
She swears having her first twins was the funniest thing in her life.
She was astonished to find her babies becoming the total opposite of eachother.
Like, to her Yoongi's character is the moon 🌒 while Hoseok's the sun 🌞, and the cutest thing about it is that they complete eachother.
How cute is that. 🥺😍
As we said Yoongi is calm and prefers to spend time by himself and that wasn't any different when he was an infant.
But,Hoseok was and still is the total opposite.
Even tho they were similar when they were born.
But you would definitely know how to differentiate between them.
Baby Yoongi is calm while baby Hoseok is bubbly and energetic.
You'd probably find Hoseok fussing in the middle of the night, but YOONGI !!! 😂
Baby Yoongi appreciated his sleep over anything else. 😂😂😂
The Queen would remember toddler Yoongi falling asleep in weird places at weird times.
Like how he fell asleep under the dinning table during a royal family gathering in Christmas. 😂🤦🏽‍♀️
While Hoseok would cause many maids to hand in their resignation to the head staff of the palace due to his over energetic bubbly self.🤣
Definitely was the devil himself.
Pranking the staff and pushing them to their limits.😂
She would remember that one time when they were on a vacation and they were introducing the twins to the concept of a swimming pool....
Hoseok was ecstatic, he felt like he was on top of the world and kept splashing water at his mum by slamming his chubby little hands in the water. 😂
While Yoongi kept looking around like a grumpy cat then falling asleep in his father's arms with his chubby cheeks squished on his dad's bare shoulder.
Pouty lips slightly agape.
With drool falling from his cute little lips 🤤.
The Queen was laughing so hard that day at her husband who was trying to get any reaction from Yoongi but failed miserably. 😂
Getting out of the pool and putting the twins in their push chairs for a nap.
Yoongi grumping in his sleep because the sun was too much for him which led to him waking up feeling grumpier than ever.
Hoseok was too busy consumed in his curiosity by looking down from his high chair wondering why he is being restricted in it now when he was far away from being sleepy.
Now fast forward a few years later, and the twins were still the same in their mother's eyes.
Sometimes, she would look over at them and wonder if her grandchildren would look anything like their fathers and inherit their weirdly cute personalities, or maybe they would grow up to take after their mothers whom she still has no idea who they are or when would her boys meet them.
I mean let's face it, all mums get super excited when thinking about grandchildren.
The Queen actually caught herself imaging how her grandchildren will look like after the boys decide to settle down and start their own families.
Almost had a mini heart attack at the thought of the palace being invaded by her grandchildren.😂
That is if her sons decide to have as many children as she and her husband did.
Would secretly wish for girls because obviously she didn't have the experience of raising a girl.💜
Which will lead her to think of all the royal jewelleries that she will be giving to them.
But would push away the whole thought as she didn't want to pressure the boys.🥺
Now moving onto Namjoon:
Tumblr media
Boy was the king and queen amazed when they discovered his love for reading at an early age.
Like he would spend so much time in the library of the palace, and afterwards would go to bed immediately.
The king promised not to tell anyone this except for Namjoon's future wife.
But one night when he was on his way to his room ...
He found Namjoon sneaking late at night out of his room and into the library in his cute baby blue onsies. 💙🥺
His father won't admit it, but he thought it was one of the cutest things ever.
Just like, how he found his oldest twins the total opposite of eachother. 😍
The king as a father was very involved in his sons' lives.
They made him so excited.
Like everyday they would teach him something new, and as a father he was and still is looking forward to know more about them.
How they think, react, and what do they like and dislike.
Raising them was such an adventure to him.
He remembers when they were first expecting Jin.
Everyone told him that having a son is like having a partner in crime.
And God blessed him with 7.
Too many partners in crime for the poor Queen's heart.😂
Well concerning Jin:
Tumblr media
The king and queen remember how he was the second quietest baby after Yoongi.
Sometimes the Queen thinks that Jin is too mature for his age.
A perfectionist since childhood.
She could remember when he would throw little tantrums when things didn't go his own way.😂
As the eldest, he is doing a great job of looking out for his brothers.
She of course understands the way Jin is as he's the crown prince.
But still she can't help but worry that he takes the position too seriously that it can wear him out.
She just wants him to enjoy his life a little bit like his younger brothers.
When accompanied by one of the maknae line to carry out a royal duty, you can see him quietly reprimanding them (yet gently) to behave in front of the public and the paparazzi.
This one time the camera caught him giving Jungkook the look because he was fussing around.
Poor Kookie looking at the ground like a reprimanded little child muttering a "sorry hyung." 😂😂😂
Jin has this faint sided smile.
He loves his brothers,truly.
Can't help having a cute little smile whenever one of them would apologize for acting unprofessionally, he just loves to mess with them.
And they know it.
But they respect him so much that they won't argue about it. 💜
Now Jimin and Taehyung are a different story:
Tumblr media
THESE KIDS ARE A MESS
I am telling you. 🙂
DO. NOT. LEAVE. THEM. TOGETHER. FOR. TOO. LONG. ⚠️
They will bring chaos upon the place.
Even though they are not identical twins.
But unlike Yoongi and Hoseok, they have a lot in common.
Would wear matching outfits when doing a royal duty.😊💜
The boys remember when Hosoek once suggested doing the same thing with Yoongi...
But he scoffed at him. 😂
Anyways.
Even though they are trouble, but that doesn't mean that they're unaware of their positions as princes.
Therefore they won't really do something reckless. But still they're crazy.
Insepararble.
If one leaves the other to carry out a certain royal duty without his twin.... They immediately feel uncomfortable.
You can definitely feel it that they're close brothers.
But again they're twins so you can't really blame them.
definitely helped Hoseok with his pranks on the staff of the place when they were kids.😂🤭
As for Jungkook, well...:
Tumblr media
Last child, so definitely pampered all the time.
VERY CURIOUS.
you know how children are curious by nature, well.... He is extra curious.
Definitely the most athletic among his brothers.
Very competitive.
Don't ask me why!! But Prince Jungkook would be interested in fencing 🤺
Like I'd imagine him in that uniform, sword in his gloved hand, messy hair hidden under his helmet...
And oh my God ... I just melted at the concept 🤤
Such a hopeless romantic.🥺💜
Like when the king and queen would share a short loving kiss.
All the boys would act disgusted, but not Kookie.
He found it cute.
Like he would have a hint of a blush on his face.
Smile, face down.
Hoping to find someone like how his dad found his mum.
Like it really amazes him how after all these years, with seven kids, a heavy burden of ruling a country and yet they seem to be falling more and more for eachother everyday.
If the boys learnt one thing from their parents, it would be pure love.(romantically speaking.)
All in all, the boys are doing just fine as princes.
Carrying out their duties as professionally as possible.
Things are quite normal in their lives that is until ...
Each one finds his partner.😏💜
•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
A/N: Please, please, please I am begging you guys for the millionth time to not be silent readers and share your opinions. TELL. ME WHAT. DO. YOU. THINK. Pwetty pwease 🥺👉🏼👈🏼. Also I'll upload the second part of this when it gets a decent amount of likes so....

🌹Roses and Hearts❤️
(Text of Valentine's Day and Elaiza's Birthday, sorry for being late, Irmãzinha @annabelle-tanaka-official, you know how i have no time for anything now.)
Angelo was feeling very pleased with Professor Dumbledore's announcement about the Valentine's Day ball, until today all events of this nature were for the boy quite... peculiar, to say the least, but with a very pleasant outcome for the boy. Well, now he had one more chance of everything going perfect, earlier today, with a bouquet of roses in herbology class, with the permission of Professor Sprout, Angel used the final minutes of the class to invite his girlfriend, Penny to go to dance with him, it was certain that they had dated since the beginning of the fifth year, but, Angel wanted to be a gentleman and romantic, because he knew his girlfriend liked it and believed in the power of true love, so he wanted to do something right. As soon as he made the request, Penny accepted him on the spot with a passionate kiss that touched the herbology teacher.
Now he was there, in front of the mirror, in the Transfiguration room, preparing for the ball, André, once again, had made great clothes for everyone.
"Andre, it looks fantastic." Said Angel looking at her reflection in the mirror.
Tumblr media
"Thanks, Angel, after your invitation to Penny in herbology class, I thought it would be cool to make you two matching outfits." Andre replied, adjusting Angel's tie.
"I hope this night will be more than great." Commented Angel. "We are not going to have an avalanche of broken cups, or Lockhart to get in the way, everything will be perfect. Thanks André."
"No need to thank, Angel." Said André, but soon he was basically pushing Angel to the door. "Now you have to go, I still have seven more people to wear, before the dance."
Now ready and with several minutes to the beginning of the ball, he decided to pick up the special package for the night. Going up to the dormitory in the Ravenclaw common room, he opened the drawer of the bedside table, and took a small lilac package with a beautiful white pearl bow.
"What do you have there, Angel?" Talbott had appeared behind Angel, he was also already wearing his clothes for the ball, and he was quite elegant, and Angel knew the name of the reason for this elegance, Elaiza Schuyler.
"Ah, Talbott." Angel couldn't help being frightened by the appearance of her friend. "It's just Elaiza's birthday present, I wanted to give it to her today at the ball, and speaking of Elaiza, are you quite elegant, if you produced just for her?" Angel asked provocatively, as he was starting to get used to the idea that Talbott was in love with his little sister.
"Well, it's Valentine's Day and her birthday, so she deserves better production." Talbott replied and Angel may notice a slight flush on his cheeks as he ran his hand through his hair.
"Our girlfriends deserve it, and it's curious that my girlfriend is the best friend of my best friend's boyfriend."
"Now that you comment, it does seem a little curious." Talbott replied.
"Let's go, I still have to get Penny." Said Angel adjusting his red gloves, with a shrinking spell, he made Elaiza's gift fit in his pocket, that would keep him safe until it was time to give it to his sister.
The two boys left the hall with the Ravenclaw, down the stairs to the great hall. On the way the two commented on their requests for the ball, as soon as they arrived at the doors of the hall, the music chosen by Chiara, a jazz arrangement played by a drums, wind instruments, string instruments and the very indispensable piano by Madame Pince.
Entering the hall, the decor was perfect, Badeea and a group of very hard-working students had worked hard to be able to leave the hall with a touch of enchanted forest from fairy tales.
Several couples were already in the hall, some were dancing on the dance floor, others were sitting at the table talking, some were enjoying the appetizers prepared by Jae and his apprentice chefs. In a corner chatting, he saw Ethren @hogwartsmystory and Merula, in Angel's opinion, they were a cute couple, maybe both would complement each other. Next to the appetizer table, Jae was next to Kyril @kyril-hphm, It was almost impossible to see this couple and not think that their love was so obviously chaotic. And looking at Badeea's picture, Jason @death-or-sleep, and McNully commented on the individuals represented there.
In short, everything looked perfect.
"This decor is really wonderful, Angel." Talbott praised seeing the flower arrangements, fabric bands, and Badeea's painting.
"You helped a lot, Talbott, if you hadn't grown the flowers, we wouldn't have enough for the flower arrangements." Angel replied smiling, but he had to admit, the room was beautiful.
"Hey, boys." A voice that made Angel's heart skip whenever she said anything.
Angel turned and found herself in front of Penny, she was beautiful, wearing a bright red skirt, a white shirt with red hearts, her hair was tied in a braid with a red bow, she was just stunning, her bright blue eyes stood out of the colors she used today.
"Honey, you look… magnificent…" said Angel with a smile for Penny.
"Thank you, Kitten." Said Penny, arranging a loose strand of hair behind her ear, while turning red. "You look magnificent too, red suits you..."
Penny came over and kissed Angel's lips quickly, and linked her arm around Angel's arm.
"Tal, where is Elaiza?" Penny asked his best friend.
"She was just finishing up." Talbott replied. "You look very beautiful, Penny, Angel is a lucky boy."
"Well, Tal is right." The blue-haired boy admitted. "I still don't know what I did to deserve that the most beautiful and popular girl at school was interested in the strange blue-haired boy."
"But know that this boy with blue hair has always been the most gentle, intelligent and affectionate person I have ever met." Penny stroked Angel's cheek with a smile. "I couldn't help but be interested in you."
"Aww, this is so cute." Elaiza had approached the three. Wearing a dress with a white skirt with roses, and a black top, her hair flowing and flowing, she was very beautiful.
"Elaiza, wow, I love your dress, it's beautiful." Penny praised Elaiza's dress.
"Thank you, Penny." Then she addressed Talbott. "What did you think, Talby?"
"You look stunning." Said Talbott a little shy, running a hand through his hair, he said the girl. "You look really beautiful today, Elaiza."
At that instant a slow, romantic melody started to play.
"Do you want to dance with me, Penny?" Angel asked, extending his hand to his girlfriend.
"I would love to, Angel." Said the girl accepting the invitation.
The couple walked hand in hand to the center of the dance floor, with fairies flying over couples making synchronized flights forming hearts, as soon as they stepped on the dance floor, Angel recognized the fairy who led the group, it was Eladora, the fairy who he saved and had become his friend. Penny ran her hands around Angel's neck and together they started to move around the dance floor.
"You know, I believe I am very lucky to be here with you, Penny." Said Angel smiling at his girlfriend. "You know, when I first met you, I could never imagine that the most popular and beautiful girl of our year would fall in love with the weird blue-haired boy with a troubled family history."
"I didn't think you were weird, I think you're a cute boy." Said the girl looking at Angel with a smile on her lips too. "I like how you always try to help everyone and solve problems at school, that's very kind."
"If you say you are, but the truth is, I'm the luckiest wizard in the world to have the most beautiful witch on my side."
"Angel!" Penny's cheeks were slightly reddish.
"I am with you, so I could not be in better company, no matter where we are, it will always be perfect if I am with you." Penny smiled at her boyfriend and with that they danced to the music, enjoying a moment without words, just leaving their hearts in sync with each other.
So it happened for two more songs, when they finally left the dance floor and approached a vacant place next to Stephanie @hanihonii who was with Mezure, and Cristiano @chrisception13 with Jenny @jayrart.
"I loved this dance." Penny commented with a smile.
"Yes, it was a lot of fun." But at that moment Angel's gaze strayed to Elaiza and Talbott who had just left the dance floor as well, turning to Penny. "Penny, you know that today is also Elaiza's birthday, so there is something I would like to do.
Approaching the girl's ear, he explained her plan. And when he finished Penny said:
"Aww, how cute, Angel, she will like it a lot."
"I will do that and then I promise that the night will be ours alone."
"You don't have to promise anything, dear, I know you love her." Said Penny stroking her boyfriend's cheek. "This is so adorable, and I love how you always want to make everyone happy, come on."
"Thank you my love." Angel said kissing Penny's lips quickly. "I'll be right back."
Moving away from his girlfriend, Angel crossed the great hall, approaching Elaiza and Talbott.
"Er… Talbott, can I speak to Elaiza, for a minute in private?"
Talbott, who already knew what his friend was planning, just nodded and left without giving any explanation, leaving Elaiza quite confused, turning to Angel with a questioning look, she asked:
"Is there a problem, Angel?"
"No, I just wanted to tell you a few things." He took the gift out of his pocket and with his wand, he returned it to its original size. "Elaiza, since we met, I am sure that our friendship has only grown, and has become so strong, to the point of being one of the strongest relationships I have in life, I know that I am not a Schuyler and you are not a Lancaster, but, Elaiza… I love you, I love you as if you were my real sister, you are one of the most fantastic people I have ever met. "
"Angel!" Exclaimed the brown-haired girl when Angel handed him the lilac package.
She tore the wrapping paper, revealing the blue velvet box, when opening it, Elaiza found a silver necklace, with a violet-shaped pendant, with the happy petals of a purple crystal, and linking all the petals, like a bow , there were the words, 'Siblings', repeated several times, forming an infinite loop.
Tumblr media
"I can?" Angel took the necklace and placed it around Elaiza's neck. "In the world of magic, we are always expected to receive a magical gift, but... I hope this necklace can remind you that no matter what happens, you will always be like a sister to me and I will always be there if you need."
Angel hugged Elaiza tightly, her heart was pounding in her chest. The truth was that since they met, Angel and Elaiza had developed a friendship, practically indestructible, there was love in this relationship that is extremely strong, brotherly love, a love of siblings. And the boy couldn't ask for anything stronger and more true.
"I talked to Talbott earlier, and I know today is Valentine's Day and you want to spend your night with him, but..." Angel held out her hand to Elaiza. "Sister, do you accept to dance to the next song with me?"
"What song, shall we dance, brother?" Elaiza asked, holding Angel's hand.
"Well, I don't think we could dance the waltz, after all, she is too romantic, so I hope you like foxtrot."
Angel nodded to Irvin who was standing next to the instruments, and with a wave of the boy's wand, a lively melody at the sound of jazz began to play in the hall. With a smile, Angel led the girl to the dance floor, where they started dancing to the sound of jazz. (https://youtu.be/zt3WKBJqH6M)
"Did you already plan this?" Elaiza asked when Angel put her hand on his waist and she on his arm. Although the difference was also relevant, they found no problems adapting.
"Had I already prepared for my sister's birthday?" Angel asked innocently. "No of course not."
"You are so silly, Angel." Elaiza spoke when they made the first cincronized movement.
"I know, but you love it about me." Said Angel with an amused smile.
"Do you think so?" Elaiza asked with a mocking smile.
"I know it is so, if not, we would not be siblings."
The two youngs seemed to slide down the dance floor with their steps perfectly matched, nor did it seem that this was the first time they danced together. Surprisingly, they were both perfect.
(Reference: https://youtu.be/Zz_v61AjFhQ)
For Angel it was being a lot of fun. It was as if they didn't have to worry about the steps, as if they weren't able to make mistakes.
When the song was coming to an end, Angel and Elaiza whirled in the middle of the track, and the moment the last chord sounded, they both stopped and a bluish fire wrote the words 'Happy Birthday Elaiza' for everyone to see.
"Happy Birthday, Little Sister, that all your drawings come true." With that Angel kissed Elaiza's forehead and hugged her tight.
-----O-----O-----O-----O-----O-----O-----
I couldn't help paying this tribute, even if it was very, very late to Elaiza, one of Angel's best friends and sister. Today Angel's life would not be what it is without this dwarf on your side. And my life wouldn't be what it is without you by my side, Laura, thanks for being my friend, and my sister, thank you very much.
(As the text was not well planned, I was unable to add all the MCs I wanted, so sorry for the others that were not mentioned here.)

this is random but -- i feel like s1 of the magicians works SO well as a self-contained thing. not like i don't also like the other seasons, or like s1 doesn't have flaws too, but there's something about it that makes me wanna keep coming back but mainly JUST for that season. idk the pacing is fast but it also feels very... right, somehow. does this make any sense? do u have a favorite season? :O :)
interesting! i feel like for me part of what’s fun about s1 is the way that it starts out small and then expands the bounds of the universe it establishes, until the finale when holy shit they’re in fillory! watching that happen is a lot of fun and i do sort of feel like once they hit that point, there was a certain momentum that was lost in the new sprawl, which maybe was why they brought in the quest for season 3, to give a new thing to be working towards. they are also not like... great at balancing screentime, maximizing potential character dynamics you could get from sticking people together, etc. s1 is fun because it has the thing that all high school/workplace shows have, which is a concrete reason for most of the main characters to spend a lot of time together even though they don’t necessarily all like each other that much or have that much in common. and the chemistry and bonds they build in that season are convincing enough for the most part to carry through the rest of the show but sometimes i do wish they had kept it centralized at brakebills a little longer...
i honestly don’t know if i have a favorite season. i know s3 is the popular answer because our idiot disaster show is all grown up and has something resembling a proper plot, and a lot of fun cool stuff happens, but i have trouble granting it the mantle of favorite because the back half and finale are just SOOOOO depressing for quentin especially once you know what happens. i feel like overall i like s1-3 equally, in that they all have some dumb and/or unnecessarily Bummer stuff and also a lot of things i love, and then s4 somewhat less, even discounting the last two eps, because as great as hale is with the monster’s weird diction and bizarro body language, it was like, a bold but ultimately dumb narrative move to take one of their richest, most interesting, best developed, and also just most fun to watch characters off the chessboard for the entire season.
what i DO think about a lot is that i really like the story that seems to get told about quentin in particular across the first two seasons... sacrilege i know because of the queliot of it all but! some very beautiful things happen in season 1 for his growth, from meeting him as a walking nervous breakdown, to his moment of truth at the secrets trial, to the stuff with alice where like, he’s bad at it but he gets better because he sincerely cares about her and works really really hard (i’ve said it before but as much as i feel robbed of a swoony queliot reunion i also feel robbed that quentin and eliot never get a moment like in the sex magic episode where he shows up at her bedroom like, “....so i’m a dick”), to accepting he was wrong about julia and making amends (and before that “giving a shit about someone you give a shit about doesn’t stop just because they fuck up” which is also a great bit of self-awareness), to ultimately of course deciding maybe alice is the hero of this story... hm s1 might be the best quentin character development, i would be willing to give it that, lmao. but i also love those last few episodes between the threesome and her death when he like, acknowledges his own culpability in doing a bad hurtful thing, and forgives eliot and margo for their roles in it, and is just so achingly sincere about how much he admires and cares for her... “i’m saying i’m not just that guy” is like probably in my top 3 quentin moments, honestly. to see a boy have his belief in his own capacity for growth and change bolstered by his simple appreciation for the miracle of this powerhouse woman who hasn’t even forgiven him yet...! and then his grief, and his attempts to save her, and his complicated, conflicted decision to let her go... also the way he and julia find themselves on opposite sides because of her alliance with martin but like the fundamental rift of them has still been mended so even though they’re working for opposing goals they still care about each other, and once that’s in the past even though he’s got a lot going on alice-wise he hasn’t forgotten his promise to help julia with what she needs re: reynard... trying to reunite her with her shade...
and then the finale, which like in retrospect feels in some ways implanted from a different show, or something... quentin telling umber that sometimes people like a little randomness... quentin going against magi-medical advice and trusting his own instinct that maybe what re-bodied alice could use is a reminder that sometimes it is good merely to eat bacon and touch hands... god the bacon scene makes me insane i love it so much. it feels like such a lovely moment for a character who so much wanted to see his life as belonging to a particular story, that he can sit and appreciate something with no plot, no purpose, just bodies and sensation and what feels good. i feel like there was a way for the show to build from that, to frame the killing of ember and umber also to be less about the fact that quentin brandished a sword and killed a god and more about this kind of metaphorical idea of quentin killing the figureheads of fillory to save fillory, which now exists as a place that gets to decide what it is, which could be an expression of what the show later on seems extremely clumsily to be trying to say about childhood/adulthood, honing in on what was valuable and real while discarding the imperatives that no longer serve you, that denied your agency and your ability to fashion your own meaning....... and then instead they hit the reset button and quentin starts season 3 as, uh, a very depressed person clinging to a story someone else is telling as the thing that makes his life worth living and has meaning :/

What are your thoughts about how Dean's being treated in the narrative this season? I was excited starting out but so far, I've just been disappointed by how he just seems superfluous to the plot. And I don't understand why the writers seem to be taking shots at him in almost every episode. The Achilles' heel thing, putting responsibility for the rift on his shoulders (while Cas' part is handwaved away), Garth's snub in naming his children, his undisputed claim that Sam is better than him (1)
at everything, Fortuna’s insult…it’s just a lot. Maybe it wouldn’t be so jarring if Dean wasn’t the only character being consistently treated like that. To be fair, it hasn’t been all bad. I’ve liked some of his character development (although I find his new tendency to not voice his dissenting opinion a little worrisome, given his natural intuition) and there have been some awesome scenes like standing up to Chuck. But I just don’t know…(2)
Thank you for this ask! I think it’s an interesting thing to explore. I have been feeling a little iffy about some things this season, too, so I want to use this opportunity to sort through my own thoughts. It’s gonna get long so I’ll put a read more…
Let’s start from the easy part. 15x11: I don’t think that Fortuna was genuine when she made that comment about Dean, and we’re not supposed to take the beach read comment as a reliable perspective. All she does is a sort of test to read them; she lets both Dean and Sam win a match against her at first, as a sort of test but also as a trick to make her opponent confident and make him play again. Except that Dean’s second match is against a very talented player, and he wins not because he’s lucky, but because he’s genuinely skilled. He proves that his skills at pool - a shorthand for his skills in general, which they had been doubting of, wondering whether it was all Chuck - are real.
Could skills beat luck? Probably not when luck is the goddess of luck herself, but I wonder whether Fortuna picked Sam as her opponent when stakes got high instead of Dean because she wanted to play against the less skilled of the two. I think that she’s playing them on and also off the pool table, and Dean realizes this when she goes “this one could be interesting”, you can tell from his reaction that he’s like “hey that’s a trick to play with the less skilled one of us” but Sam takes the bait. She also pretends to fall for Sam’s trick of distracting her by making her talk, just to reveal she can win whenever she wants to when the stakes are final. From what we’ve seen of her, I think we can infer that her modus operandi is to make people confident, so they’ll play again, higher the stakes, and then lose, not necessarily against her, just against someone, and lose their luck - she plays first with Dean when she doesn’t know who he is, and I assume it’s a common trick - let the newcomer win to stroke his confidence. (In gambling, the idea is to give players smalls wins to make them gamble more, and lose more.)
So, the narrative doesn’t give us any reason to believe that Dean isn’t right when he says that he is better than Sam at pool, and the point of the “beach read” comment is that he is not a beach read. Fortuna is supposed to be an unreliable narrator at that point, because she’s testing them. In fact, at the end, she rewards them on the ground of being “heroes”, which invalidates her previous statement, be it genuine or not.
Also consider that “sexy but skimmable” i.e. a pretty idiot, is the sort of taunt that Dean has received often in his life. If Fortuna is truly skilled at reading people, then she picks exactly something that has a history for Dean, and also something that has a history for Sam, i.e. that he’s more “interesting” (smart, skilled, whatever) than his brother. Coincidence?
That he’s pretty but otherwise worthless is something Dean has internalized by being told, not necessarily in words, over and over in his life. That reminded me of John’s old hunter friend who was like “didn’t you grow up pretty” and “if your father could see you now”. It took Dean a long time (and with plenty of fallbacks) to realize he’s more than a pretty face who follows orders. On the other hand, that he’s a more interesting “read” to Dean’s “beach read” is something Sam’s always had in his mind (he was the one who questioned the orders while Dean acted as John’s faithful little dog…) and it took him a long time, and some big blows to his own ego, to get out of that mindset.
So I don’t think it’s random that Fortuna goes for, you know, down with Dean and up with Sam, so to speak.
Dean’s statement that Sam is better than him at everything except pool - I read that as a very parental thing. It’s a very parent thing: telling your child that they’re proud of them for surpassing you. It should be the goal of a parent, you know, that your child is a better person than you - and a parent being like, you’ve become more skilled than me at my skills (except this one non-fundamental thing I can still kick your ass at :p) and I am proud of you, is a common trope.
So I read that as a small but very strong Dean-as-Sam’s-parent moment. Recently Sam also mentioned out loud that Dean raised him, so the writing team has not dropped this very important piece of characterization.
15x10. I think that the point is that Garth is Dean’s friend first and foremost. He doesn’t name his kids after his friends plural, he names his kids after the most important people for his friend singular. That’s how I read it at least. It’s weird because Dean hears one twin is named after Sam and assumes the two siblings are named after the two siblings, and the dissonance between his expectation and reality is what makes the humor. Also… Garth and Dean are a “who knows maybe in another life” kind of duo, you know…? They have a chemistry. Garth is Dean’s type, once you go past the appearances, and judging from Garth’s choice in wife, Dean’s pretty much his type too. You don’t name a child after that kind of person in your life.
Also, from a extra-diegetic perspective, Dean’s mirror is Gertie (from the name Gertrude meaning “strong spear/spear of strength”), the girl, because he’s always aligned with the feminine.
15x09. Now, this is the episode I’ve struggled the most with. Not sure if the problem is the episode itself, or the fact that the episode came after a season of the fandom acting a certain way towards Dean and Cas and their conflict, and that colored the episode a certain tint for me.
I’m kind of suspending judgement as I wait to see how the rest of the season goes and how Dean and Cas’ relationship develops, but my fear is that the narrative never really allows Dean to have emotions, so to speak, nor addresses Cas’ side of the issue(s). 15x09 itself is telling of a certain problem - Dean is experiencing certain emotions and going through a certain thing with Cas, but bam something happens that makes him terrified that he’s lost Cas again, and that forces him to scrap what he was going through. I’m not sure I’m explaining myself well here but bear with me.
He doesn’t get to sort through his emotions, he just goes in emergency mode again and the emergency just gives a yank to his emotions. I suppose the intent was “situation makes Dean realize he doesn’t want to lose Cas/he was wrong at making Cas the emotional scapegoat of his anger” but I don’t think it really worked. Dean was grieving and experiencing one of the most severe traumatic things in his life (actually, multiple at the same time). There’s no “right” or “wrong” in his emotions. I’m not saying that grief/trauma gives you a free card to be mean to others but… I mean, it does?? I think we’ve sort of created a culture of yelling “that’s abusive!!” at what are normal human experiences and expect that a person should act “properly” at all times. There’s a refrain of “x experience explains the behavior of y but doesn’t justify it!” which, sure, is valid with certain kinds of behavior, but there’s a whole jumble of normal human experiences in between “good” behavior and unjustifiable behavior.
Maybe I’m just culturally Catholic to the core, but all this pressure on Dean to beg for forgiveness for being harsh to Cas feels… iffy to me.
I guess I see forgiveness a bit differently, too, because I don’t think forgiveness - and especially when and how quickly you get there - is a choice. If Dean wasn’t emotionally ready to forgive Cas and open up emotionally to him again, then making him feel guilty for not being quick enough to get there is not exactly my idea of a healthy process.
Then there’s the “you didn’t stop me”, which, I get the whole thing behind it - Cas’ deepest fear is that Dean doesn’t care if he leaves, Dean’s deepest fear is that Cas is better off if he leaves, so, draaaama~~. But Dean has a history of people leaving him and feeling he can’t (isn’t worth) ask them to stay instead. Sure, it’s good drama. But I’m not sure that the narrative is allowing the space for understanding that Dean needs the emotional security of feeling like he’s worth to ask to stay just like Cas needs the emotional security of feeling like he has a place where he belongs and isn’t just a guest.
Again, I think it would be unfair to draw judgement of a narrative that is ongoing, and I hope that my fears are unfounded and the narrative will address what I wish it addresses! Of course with a little less than half a season still to go, emotional conflicts and character development can’t be wrapped up yet.
Another point you bring up is Dean’s reluctance to express his dissenting opinion. I do not think we have a pattern yet - his acceptance of Sam’s decision not to trap Chuck was intended, I guess, as a moment of growth in the sense that he acknowledged that Sam is a grown adult capable of drawing his judgement and make informed decisions, so he trusts Sam’s judgement and doesn’t drill him with questions. We still have to see how they all react to Jack’s revelation about Billie’s plan, so I would say to wait and see about that. Dean’s face at the end is not a “well this is excellent news” face, nor is Sam’s (who is framed after Jack talks about getting stronger, which is something Sam has a history with). Considering this season brought Lilith back, I’m sure they haven’t forgotten about Sam’s demon blood arc... I do wonder if Dean will avoid getting too confrontational with Cas, though. We’ll see.
Now, you say that he seems “superfluous to the plot”. I would normally say, well of course he’s superfluous to the plot, he’s the protagonist, he’s the one that reacts to the plot that happens around him. But I understand this is not the kind of answer you’re looking for. Honestly, I might be wrong, but I think that the first roughly-half of the season is the Male Part. The second part of the season should be the Female Part. In the first part, Chuck is rampant, Billie’s plan is dormant, Amara is minding her business and not being relevant to the plot, the plot is Sam-heavy, Rowena dies and reverts to playing a game of power, Mary is dead, Eileen is a piece played by Chuck. Now, with Billie’s plan being put in motion (although I don’t believe that’s the endgame or a Good Thing™ in unquestioning terms, but it’s still Death entering the game), I think a new phase should start. Dean confronting Chuck was already a start, and also how they got some support from a female deity that expressed negative opinions about Chuck -- I think that we’ve entered the second part of the season, and things are going to change. I’m looking forward to see what will be Amara’s role in all of this... especially considering that’s inextricably related to Dean’s role.
Feel free to ask for any clarification or addition or argument!!

sorry if this is like. the weirdest question ever but i thought you would be an ok person to ask. i've recently gotten into writing again and discovered that the hardest part of writing characters different from me isn't when they have a marginalized experience i don't know (ex. writing poc as a white person), bc there's research and guides available for that, but rather when i have an experience they don't (like writing straight or neurotypical ppl as a mentally ill queer person) 1/2
so i was wondering if you ever had the same problems or any advice on how to write characters with more “mainstream” lives when you can’t remember how to connect to that pov? it’s fine if you don’t, i just have a lot of respect for you as a writer and a person and i value your thoughts! sorry i wrote so much :/ 2/2
oh don't apologize, i love love love questions about writing, especially the weird ones ^^ and this is truly a fascinating question. it did puzzle me a bit at first because the thing about the mainstream perspective is that it's, well, everywhere. and it's absolutely an experience in itself too ! like as queer people we've grown up surrounded by straight love stories, and so on. so it made me wonder why exactly you have that difficulty, and whether i also sometimes encounter it (maybe a little at times).
- is it a problem of legitimacy ? as a person that has been 'otherized' in certain ways, do you maybe feel like your perspective on 'the norm' is less valid/adequate ? I especially have this when it comes to mental illness, I have these weird moments of anxiety about whether all the characters i write end up being mentally dysfunctional without me realizing it, etc - i don't think it's true, but the anxiety is there. and honestly i think the concept of 'mentally sane' in the society we live in remains somewhat nebulous and to be defined still. if you share these anxieties, it's good to remember that it's a proven phenomenon that marginalized people are forced, for reasons of survival and because they are socialized to the norm anyway, to quickly acquire insights into the experiences/minds/habits of privileged people ; and have been taught to see privileged people as human and complex in ways where the reverse is not necessarily true. This is why, for instance, women's writing perspective on men can have a depth and humanity that the reverse often lacks. in general i think as baseline that people can write really valuable things about experiences they don't share, the 'stranger's perspective' can be really interesting in itself because it forces you to ask more questions ; unless it has been blighted by privilege (which functions on a basis of seeing the other as inherently lesser and the atrophy of empathy). i really don't believe in the idea you should only write about experiences you know or have ; after all empathy + research + curiosity + imagination + questioning why things are the way they are, are a fundamental part of the writer's craft ; it's just crucial to be aware of how power can skew that. so i hope this reassures you a little if you struggle with this.
- is it a problem of interest ? ever since i realized i was queer, i have had this desire, more or less strong at times, to only consume and produce stories containing a majority of queer people. i was accused once of making too many characters queer in my fic (lmao i was so proud). and you know what ? i think that is abso-fucking-lutely fine. if people have an issue with that they can go back to the 99% of literature that caters to them. if you don't feel like writing about straight people but think like you 'have to' for some reason, please don't force yourself lol. and don't be ashamed to want to write about people who do share your experiences in that way, especially since we have been starved for representation for a long time. sometimes it's also just a detox phase you need to go through. i have had more m/f ships as of late and it almost feels fresh again to me lmao and focusing on queer pairings for a long time has given me a new way of looking at love and relationships and general which is great.
- is it a problem of connection ? ok so maybe you do want to write about those mainstream experiences but you just find it hard to be inspired for some reason. if you have checked that it isn't one of the problems above, i think the next step is to just look for the core reason of why you're writing these things in the first place. where's the issue, the spark, the zing, the problem, the crack, the fatal flaw, etc. Mental illness and queerness are interesting to write about, of course. but when you don't have that, you should still have other interesting things to write about. and you can go back to the universals. what is love ?how does sexuality impact people's experiences ? what does it mean to be mentally healthy ? what's the mind anyway ? how does our society affect those things ? how is the 'typical neurotype' qualified and why ? i have always believed anyway that true universals are made of an infinity of diversity, and not some sort of generic mold. so you can find a connection to an experience you don't have via an experience you do have. (again, as long as you're aware of power dynamics etc). will it always be perfect ? no, but it's still interesting to try. 'being straight' as an identity is not equivalent to 'being queer' because 'being straight' ties into heteronormativity as a tool of social control/oppression and therefore, heteronormativity deserves to be destabilized and written about in weird/new/original ways by queer people who don't entirely understand what it is to be straight ; this will always be more interesting and liberating than straight people writing about gays who 'are just like everyone else!!!!' uwu'. as a neuroatypical person i actually believe i have very interesting things to say about the nature of the mind and selfhood because i am constantly thinking about it in way neurotypicals don't ; i have experienced first hand how much of our selves are influenced by chemistry and how willpower is not everything in life and how the self can be a fluid thing. I choose to believe that i am not some sort of alien freak that cannot understand 'normal' people, but rather that i am a specific mode of the human species that just has a lower statistical recurrence, and therefore society is not adapted to me and i have to think about things that other people can ignore and that is thinking and writing material !!!!! the 'norm' is not more central, more human, more valid, more basic, more by-default, etc. and barriers between identities are often more porous than we think. even if you 'fuck it up' it's actually interesting !
anyway i think my point is, in general, this is not an area that you have to be super careful about ! experiment, go nuts ! write about straight couples as if they were gay ! imagine what it means for you to be mentally healthy/stable/thriving ! don't feel bad if you don't understand something, invent shit and it will still be interesting ! and like, you can still very much do research here. like there is a shit ton of love advice columns that mostly cater to straight people, stories full of straight people, books on love in general...you can study that just like queerness has been studied lmao. for the neurotypical thing in particular I have just started a book called "Explaining Humans" by Camilla Pang, a brilliant scientist who has autism/adhd/generalized anxiety disorder, and who basically created a manual of 'how do people work' through science and it's so interesting, there are a lot of things that are implicit and that they never really explain to you and you can kind of miss if you're neuroatypical and it's really fascinating.
good luck ! and please feel free to tell me more if this has made you think haha <3 thanks again for the question !
