yooo is there any chance I can request parent headcanons for the safehouse crew (cod: bocw)??? been replaying the bo2 campaign and the Adler is Graves' father theory has a grip on me esp recently now that that mf is coming back
I imagine that Adler is a pretty distant parent, what with work in the CIA taking up most of his time and probably isn't able to see his kid much to begin with after the divorce, no doubt his ex wife has full custody of any of the children they had during that marriage. he's the kind of dad to buy his teenage kid expensive gifts to make up for the times he couldn't be there, usually related to something they were mildly interested in when they were like 7. And that thing is probably one of the only things he knows about them because they ranted about it to him when they were really young and naive. Russ is not as good as vocalizing his affection, but he's observant, and would zero in on any information and likes that his kid has when they express it... It's just that the usually don't with the distance between them. I think he does genuinely care about his child and still wants to show that they appreciate them, but just doesn't know how to properly connect with them on an emotional level, and usually doesn't even have the time. I don't think he'd treat his kid much differently based on their gender, he's still an emotionally-supressed mostly absentee father that his child would kind of just grow to resent as they get older. Adler is the 'he tried' dad. (I hc that Graves his kid is also the most likely to have a wild rebellious teens phase, and he'd kind of just let it happen so long as they aren't getting into any legal trouble because at that point their relationship would be so strained and he's just kinda apathetic about it. I think he's the type that would come home late to catch his kid smoking, and the only thing he'd do is ask why they started and if they know the consequences of it, then promptly asks for one and never brings it up again.)
Hudson, on the contrary, would be the perfect dad. Girl dad 100%, this man has a wife and two daughters (I think, might need to double check this one, but point still stands because I think he'd be good with girls). This man deserves a bo burnham 1985 edit. I think that he's really the type of guy who tries to squeeze in as much quality time with his family even with his work, and is the type to frequently show affection and pride for his children. Jason is completely soft for his wife and children, in contrast to how much of a no-nonsense hardass he is on the job. I am utterly convinced that this is the man who would always play along with his daughter's tea parties when he has tine and would never miss any of his son's games (he'd ask Jenny to record it for him if he's knows he's gonna be on a mission for a long time). I imagine that he really goes the extra mile to be the best role model for his kids, being both responsible and loving even with the limited presence he has because of his job. Hudson is the father figure some us needed in life ngl.
I don't think Mason would be an abusive dad contrary to what most people would take away from the one interaction we see with him and a very young David. I definitely think he'd have some major anger issues though, no doubt that trauma from The Numbers™️ and all the shit he's gone through as soldier and later CIA op would have an impact on him. He would never lay a hand on his own kid, but he's definitely shouted at them pretty frequently and has likely broken objects around them when he's angry. Much more so after his wife's death and being left as a single dad who barely has any idea what he's doing, and the only other person who can rein him in from it is Frank. I think he's more affectionate and less emotionally distant than Adler, but still just not as close as he should be to his child. He'd apologize for his outbursts and all but, being raised with traditional values from the 30s-40s, he isn't really the type to have those heartfelt talks about feelings because men are supposed to be strong and being emotional makes you weak and all that crap. Would be tougher with a son, and stricter with a daughter. Alex would become a lot more understanding and open over time when his kid grows older, and mellow out as an old man and just be proud of how they turned out despite how he was. The anger issues never really dissipates, but he learns to control it and be better for his kid for the remainder of his life. Mason is the dad you'd resent and have so much anxiety over in your teens and twenties but eventually make up with and get closure by your late thirties or so.
Woods would definitely be more of a fun uncle than a dad. More of the tough love type, but will always remind his kid that they're appreciated at the end of the day. But I also imagine he's a lot more reckless snd clumsy, specially as a first-time father. May not be perfect, has his own shortcomings in a lot of places, but he's really trying his best. I imagine that he probably tiptoed a lot when it came to raising David, trying not to yell at him too much and tried to be his anchor as much as he can after he was tricked into killing Alex (and then promptly going off on him when he shows face again after thirty years). Frank would be considerate and very vocal about his appreciation for his kid despite . Woods is the lovable old man that you'd have a lot of funny memories to look back on, and cussing you out is just his own way of saying he loves you.
I don't have as much thoughts on them but I think Park would be very overprotective, especially if she had a daughter. Would shelter her child and be very strict with them, making sure she knows how and where her kid is all the time, who her kid is with, and how safe they are. Would make her child wear a tracker watch and tell her all and any people they meet or see. Madam Shell's betrayal and her brother's death have definitely left a mark on her, and she would excessively worry about them at all times, to the point of it being suffocating and very invasive Lazar is the balance to this, more lenient and lets his kid have a right to privacy and freedom. Sure, he still worries a lot, but he has enough faith in his child to let then go off on their own when they're at an appropriate age. I also imagine that he gives the best best hugs. Sims would be somewhere in between, albeit more leaning on the stricter side.
AHHHH THIS TOOK ME SO LONG TO ANSWER I'M SORRY
bUuuuT
i love this idea so I'm gonna do silly little headcannons for it
How the Safehouse Crew treat their kid
Russell Adler
Tumblr media
He's absolutely an absent dad
It's not that he does it on purpose, it's just what happens with his job
Russell tries so hard. So hard to be there, but a lot of the time he just can't because of work
If his kid does any sports, you can bet your ass that he's gonna be at any games he can
Now, that's not a lot, but still
Adler absolutely cheers the loudest anytime that his kid does anything
He'll also argue with the refs or umpires about dumb calls
Has been kicked out multiple times
Russell also buys his kid anything that they want
Christmas with him is like out of a damn movie
Presents are practically stacked to the roof and each one is more extravagant than the last
Is definitely the type of parent to dump a bunch of money on his kid for whatever they want
It's his way of making up for barely being around
Has missed his visitation days a lot
Every time he does, Adler sends money and presents as an apology
One time, his kid was staying over at his house because they got into an argument with their mom
He came home late and was met with the sight of his only child smoking cigarettes in the living room
"You know what those do to your lungs?"
The kid just stared for a second before nodding in shock
"Good. Don't be surprised when you get lung cancer. Lord knows I'm already getting close to that. Give me one."
The kid hands over the whole pack, and Adler takes one, lights it, and hands it back. "Don't tell your mother."
On the times that he actually has off and has the kid, he tries to make a whole day out of spending time together
Adler takes them to an amusement park or something, and its just plain awkward the whole time
But, by the end of the day, they're just a little closer
Mainly because they had a heart to heart on the car ride home
They even hugged!
Yay!
And then nothing changed
Boo >:(
Jason Hudson
Tumblr media
Girl dad 100%
He's the dad that everyone needs
So supportive, no matter what
Jason does, in fact, have two girls. And, if I remember right, he loves them more than anything
This man absolutely has been caught playing princesses and knights with his daughters by his wife
His favorite thing is to sit at the tiny tables and have a tea party
Loves his kids so much
If he had a son, Hudson would teach him how to throw a football
Definitely would push him to join a sport
If he does, Hudson goes to every game
Just like Adler, he cheers the loudest
If his girls get boyfriends, you can bet your ass that he's going to let them know that he has multiple guns and absolutely knows how to use it
#WillThreatenToKillThem
Jason has to be told by his wife to leave them alone
He only does because he loves his wife so so much and he'd kill for her
Lots of physical affection
Hugs and all that good stuff
His kids definitely won't be touch starved
Is absolutely who they go to first whenever something happens and they need help/support
If he ever catches his kid doing something that they shouldn't, like smoking, he has to try really hard not to yell at them. He pretty much has to walk away to cool off before he can approach the conversation in a way that he wants to
Hudson and his kid are going to have a long talk that ends in a hug and a promise not to do it again
Overall his kids are well behaved and he's a good dad
Alex Mason
Tumblr media
My poor boy
I love him so much, anger issues and all
Any time that he screams and breaks things in front of his kid, he calls Woods to come and pick them up so he can take care of things
He always feels horrible after he yells. Alex never wanted to hurt anyone. Quite the opposite, actually. He just doesn't know how to control his anger
Throughout the kids developmental years, he tries his best not to yell or get angry, but a lot of the time he can't stop himself in time
In comes one Frank Woods, who ends up coming over and taking the kid out for ice cream or to the park or just for a drive
He ends up being that cool uncle that the kid goes to when something happens
When he gets discharged (Honorably) from the military, Mason ends up going to therapy
And anger management classes
Only reason he does is because his kid ends up yelling back when he gets angry
And he realizes that he fucked up :(
So that helps him mellow out for his kids later years
Definitely apologizes to his kid for how they were raised
Alex won't over explain or get all mushy, but it'll come up as a simple "I'm sorry for how you were raised," and leave it at that
Will express his feelings through gifts or spending quality time with his kid
If he gets grandkids, Alex will take that as the time to make up for his kids shitty childhood
Best granddad for real
When he's older, he won't mind as much when it comes to telling his kid that he's proud of them
Lots of praise
Frank Woods
Tumblr media
HE'S SO BABY GIRL I CAN'T
LOOK AT THIS GIF
Anyway
Definitely the type of dad to pretend that his kid is in trouble and then it turns out to be a prank
He would absolutely do it just like he did in the scene of the gif
Frank wouldn't yell at his kid, more just yell in general
He'll scream over football games, tv shows, dropping something, anything
He does not care
His kid would be used to loud noises by double digits
Woods would absolutely not know that his kid was sneaking out until Alex caught them
He doesn't particularly care, but he's a little disappointed that they didn't ask him if they could go
Instead of yelling, he would sit them down and have a serious discussion
Lots of "You could have just asked," and, "How many times have you done it?"
Basically he'd get his kid to quit because he knows it's a bad habit
I can't remember if he's a smoker or not, but if he is he would go through the process of quitting with said kid
Helen Park
Tumblr media
She's kind of a shitty mom, ngl
Park can be good at it when she wants to, but she's got her own shit that he's going through
She can't handle a kid
In the early years, she's a little neglectful and absent
Then she does a full 180 and goes full over-protective mom mode
Trackers, constant phone calls, reassuring messages
The whole nine yards
She'll try her best to stop if her kid says something, but her anxiety is way too high to stop fully
Definitely the kind of mom to apologize through gifts
One fond memory that her kid would have of their younger years is her sneaking into their room and climbing into bed with them
She just sat there and held them, silently telling them how much she loved them
Helen thought their kid was asleep, not awake and hearing everything she was saying
Park definitely let her kid sneak into her bed when they had nightmares or got sick
She secretly loves it and is sad when they stop doing it
Okay that's all I got-
I didn't mean for this to take so long to make

How Heartsteel would act when they are tipsy. (18+)
Let me say this right off the bat: PLEASE DRINK RESPONSIBLY (AND ONLY IF YOU’RE OF LEGAL AGE TO BE DRINKING). BE KIND TO YOUR LIVERS AND FOLLOW LAWS Y’ALL.
(Seriously drinking too much is not fun. Either while you’re drinking, or the day after. I once learned the hard way in college that I become extremely emotional if I have a bit much and it’s just straight up not a good time. I still drink, but very occasionally and not much.)
Inspiration: Now all that being said……I’d love to have a drink or two with the Heartsteel members. I think that would be so fun!
Champions: Heartsteel
Genre: Headcanon
Type: Fluff (I’m still saying this is 18+ only. I’m American so technically the legal drinking age where I am is 21, but I know for a lot of places around the world the legal age to drink is 18.)
Gender: Gender Neutral Reader
TW: We’re talking about alcohol use in this one. Mention of a drinking game or two. Mention of sobriety. Swearing.
Tumblr media
Aphelios
If you want a calm, chill, but still fun night, Aphelios is the guy to drink with. 100/10 vibes and I’m all here for it.
This is when he’d use more sign language to communicate. (I’m imagining tipsy Phel signing incredibly cheesy pick up lines to his partner and I’m OBSESSED.)
And you know how words can start to slur when people get tipsy? That concept maybe translates into his sign language juuuuust a little bit. Maybe a slightly sloppy sign here or there. But you know him well enough that you know what he’s trying to say.
And while he’s not super touchy, when he’s tipsy, he’s definitely staying connected to you somehow.
Either through linked hands/pinkies, an arm around you, or just some other way of him keeping connected to you.
You two turn into the parent couple a little bit, making sure everyone, including yourselves, is staying safe and hydrated. Aphelios might be mischievous and like pranks, but he knows when it’s time to be more serious, and keeping everyone safe when alcohol is involved is definitely a time to be more serious. (Surprise surprise, you might have thought Yone would be the parent but he’s already the band mom sober. The man needs a break. Out of the other members, I actually think Phel could wrangle people pretty well.)
Ezreal
Ezreal would be such a fun person to drink with just in general, but especially as your S/O. He’s energetic, fun, generally positive. In my experience, those people make for enjoyable beverage buddies (alcoholic or not). He’s the life of any party (#1).
He’s also a lightweight. Absolutely no question in my mind. He’s not a large man by any means. (I love this teeny pop prince.)
It doesn’t matter if the two of you have been together for years, once he’s tipsy, he’s pulling out all his best (read: cheesy as fuck) pick up lines and using them on you.
“Hey, my name is Microsoft. Can I crash at your place tonight?” “Ez, we’ve been dating for over a year.” “Yes we have. And? Can I not flirt with my own partner?” “…Ok that’s very sweet, please continue.” (He always manages to make you blush and make it feel like the first time you met him.)
Only uses them on you though. As flirty as Ez can be, this green bean is LOYAL to you. Only you get his flirty side. Anyone else tries flirting with him and they get some truly bombastic side eye.
Otherwise Ezreal’s just really fun to chat with or play drinking games with. The absolute best beer pong partner. There’s no one more accurate. And unless you’re sitting out a round, he’ll always ask you to be his #2. It doesn’t matter how good or bad you are. When you do sit out and he plays, there’s always an argument about who gets to be his partner. The next best player is Sett, who is also very good, so there’s a house rule that the two of them can’t be on a team together 😂.
Kayn
I was struggling to figure out how to describe Kayn while drinking, and now I realize why I was struggling so very much…
Plot twist: Kayn is sober. (Shoutout to anyone on a sobriety journey, for whatever reason. I have so much respect for you. Our society loves to glorify alcohol and drinking culture, so for those who actively choose to go against that, props to you.)
I genuinely don’t think he drinks at all. Maybe he did in the past but he doesn’t currently. Rock stars historically haven’t always had the best relationship with substances. This could be one of those situations where he realized he didn’t like who he was when he drank.
Kayn is self-aware enough to know he’s already fairly impulsive and a little wild while sober. Alcohol added to that mix wasn’t helping anything. So he stopped and surrounded himself with a network of people that fully support his decision (that ofc includes you and the other Heartsteel members).
Now all of that being said, Kayn still likes to enjoy himself. He’s a fan of fancy beverages, even if they’re non-alcoholic, so he’s always getting a mocktail or a non-alcoholic beer (I’m really glad to see bartenders/companies starting to include NA options. Listen, sometimes I just want to feel fancy and sip a fun beverage that doesn’t have alcohol in it). Having something to sip on makes Kayn feel involved even if he’s the only one in a group that doesn’t have an alcoholic beverage.
Now even though he doesn’t drink, don’t think he’s a spoilsport. Even without alcohol he is a very fun person to be around, so when you’re out with him you’ll still have a great night filled with some shenanigans, fun talks, and laughter.
K’Sante
I’m not kidding when I say I want to have a drink with Heartsteel K’Sante so badly and I’m genuinely a little sad I cannot. I want to pick his brain. I’ve said it before but I get great vibes from him. To me, it’s very easy to see why he’s one of the co-leaders of Heartsteel.
Absolutely gets philosophical/goes into deep conversations when he drinks and those people are SO FUN TO BE AROUND. A perfect companion for someone who might be a little more introverted since he’d be focused only on you and he’d maybe take you somewhere a little quieter so you can hear each other.
I feel like it’s very easy to lose track of time when you’re talking with K’Sante. Like you look down at your phone/watch and an hour has passed just like that while the two of you chat and sip on your drinks.
These deep conversations can be about anything too. Maybe about literature that you’ve both read, dissecting their music with a close eye, discussing the meaning of life, or even him listening to you discuss your problems and offering you advice if you want it.
And even if the topics of discussion are deep, K’Sante is still making things light hearted. He never wants to cause you to not enjoy your evening.
In between discussions of deeper topics, he’s cracking some jokes or telling you funny stories about himself, his family, or the other members of Heartsteel. Whatever is being discussed, the overall vibe with K’Sante is very safe and fun. When you have a drink with him, settle in and enjoy a fun night talking about anything and everything.
Sett
Oh my god Sett would be so fun to have a drink with. He absolutely gives off “life of the party” vibes (#2) and I absolutely love that for everyone around him. Hell he gives off those vibes without alcohol.
This is going to be so damn specific: Sett gives me slight frat bro vibes BUT IN THE VERY BEST WAY!! (I SWEAR I mean this as a compliment!)
When I was in university/undergrad, I was in a sorority. (Hehe surprise! I’m definitely not the stereotypical sorority girl.) Because of this I am familiar with fraternities and frat bros. While generally I don’t have a high opinion of them, there was one frat on campus that was actually awesome. Their guys were safe/fun to be around, respectful, and kind (a lot of them were athletes so they knew they better behave if they wanted to stay on their teams).
THAT is the kind of frat bro vibe I get from Heartsteel Sett. Ma raised him fucking right. He has manners and is incredibly respectful to those around him always. (Unless they give him reason not to be but that’s a whole different thing.)
And just like Ez, his flirty side is totally coming out, but again, only with you. I can’t imagine Sett ever being unfaithful in a relationship. Ma raised him far better then that.
And if you’re out with him and getting unwanted attention, he’s definitely sticking up for you, whether or not you’re dating him. Hell even if you’re a stranger, he’s the type to pretend to be your boyfriend/brother/friend to get you out of a situation. Just overall a 100/10 man to be around. You’ll definitely have a blast with him!
Yone (Yes his is long but listen, I have thoughts!)
This man. This man is my dark horse. There are two possible ways I see Yone acting when tipsy. 1. Completely fucking normal and alcohol doesn’t affect him like at all. 2. Turns him into a clingy koala man who is a lightweight.
Clingy koala man is far more entertaining so THAT’S WHAT WE’RE GOING WITH. I feel like it doesn’t take much for him to feel it. Part of that is, Yone wouldn’t drink that much to begin with. Maybe a glass of wine on a dinner date with you, or the occasional drink at a party, but otherwise it’s not his thing.
All this to say, when he does have something, he definitely feels it. And that’s when he’ll be glued to your side. Now obviously if you’re in public, he’s not going to be wrapped around you, but even then, he’ll link arms to walk with you, keep his hand on the small of your back, or even link pinkies with you.
Now if you two are alone? And you’re not going anywhere for the evening? Oh all bets are off. You better do everything you need to do before sitting down with him, because once you do, he’s pulling you into his lap and that is going to be your spot for the foreseeable future. (It’s like the unspoken pet rule: “if a pet is on you, you’re not allowed to move until they do” but in reverse. As long as Yone is cuddling you, you’re not allowed to move. [Like of course you’re allowed to move, especially if you need to go to the bathroom or get more comfortable. He’s not an asshole. But he just really loves holding you.])
You’re already the only person besides Heartsteel’s hair stylist Yone lets touch his hair, but when he’s tipsy? He practically leans his head into your touch until you play with his hair, sighing happily as you do. He especially loves when you braid it. (God damn I want to braid his hair so badly.)
Thanks so much for reading and I hope you enjoyed! I was discussing with my friends which fictional characters we’d like to have a drink with and that’s where this idea really stemmed from. Random, but fun to think about! 💙
(Also this is just a small reminder that my requests are currently open. If you have specific ideas, send them through my asks! Just check the rules post [linked on my masterlist] first!)

So Barbara right?: Obviously much like Steph, much of Barbara's story happens independent of the batfam so there's nothing really to change. I'd say the only key difference is that she's moreso Jason's friend than anyone else's (you know cause it'd be fun).
It's finally Dick's time to shine: To celebrate Jason's official adoption, the Wayne's go to the new circus in town. The happy atmosphere of the night is quickly cut short by screams of terror as the flying Grayson couple falls to their deaths. Cass is the first to react, rushing over to the Grayson child and shielding him before he can see (or hear) them hit the ground. The other Wayne children are quick to follow, expertly dealing with the frightened crowd and leading them out of the tent in an orderly fashion. Bruce is the last one to take action, meeting up with Commission Gordon to detail what transpired. When all the dust has settled, the audience has left, the bodies have been taken away, and Dick Grayson is an orphan.
Naturally Bruce defaults on his trusty dusty tactic of simply becoming the boy's guardian but there's a snag this time, the state won't let him. They go on and on about how Dick is an emotional child and he needs a lot of one on one attention and he wouldn't get the proper support he needs in the manor and bla bla bla. Which would all be valid points, if the state didn't just turn around and put the poor kid in a boys home. Bruce is obviously pissed. Beyond pissed in fact. But until the courts rule in his favor, his hands are tied. You know whose hands aren't tied though? Damian's. Damian is a full scale legal adult who lives on his own and has the backing of his father (who just so happens to be one of the richest men on Earth). The state has no choice but to meekly hand the boy over.
Dick is a feral little monster. Constantly angry, constantly lashing out. He far surpasses early days Jason in sheer ferocity alone. But Damian is undeterred. He knows feral. He's seen feral. He WAS feral. This brat will not break him. Damian starts employing the methods his father used to help him deal with his emotions back in his "I just found out I'm the son of assassins and I'm so angsty" phase. Mainly the method of punching your feelings away. He gets Dick a punching bag and also trains him in every martial art/self defense method under the sun. When that proves to still not be enough, he does the next best thing, he takes Dick with him out on patrols. Dick finally starts working through all of his emotions surrounding his parents death, especially when he starts getting leads on who killed them. Eventually, he finally figures out who killed his parents and where they are and he's out for blood. He tries to sneak out but Damian is already waiting for him by the window. Dick prepares to get into a fight, only for his gear to be tossed at him with Damian already climbing out the window. He's stunned for a moment but he's also not about to look a gift horse in the mouth. So the two go to catch Tony Zucco together and the rest is history (Bruce nearly has a heart attack when he finds out Dick is Damian's sidekick. Why does no one in his family want to be normal!?).

victor and elizabeth were not the first grooming case nor the first pseudo-incest relationship in frankenstein: that would be alphonse and caroline.
alphonse was a friend of caroline’s father, beaufort. this is how they met, and so there was a significant difference in their ages. after beaufort dies, alphonse and caroline marry. take a look at how beaufort’s passing is described:
Her father grew worse; her time was more entirely occupied in attending him; her means of subsistence decreased; and in the tenth month her father died in her arms, leaving her an orphan and a beggar. This last blow overcame her; and she knelt by Beaufort’s coffin, weeping bitterly, when my father entered the chamber. He came like a protecting spirit to the poor girl, who committed herself to his care, and after the interment of his friend he conducted her to Geneva, and placed her under the protection of a relation. Two years after this event Caroline became his wife.
while "orphan" does not strictly mean the person is a minor, orphan still is most commonly used to describe a minor whose parents are both dead. if we interpret orphan in that sense, then caroline would have been a child when alphonse first took her in. the fact that he waits two years after this event to marry her also hints towards this, almost as if he was waiting for her to become legal and the age of consent. this is further supported by the diminutive language of “poor girl” used to describe her, who is in juxtaposition to the paternal “protecting spirit” of alphonse whom she commits herself into the care of.
even if caroline was not a minor, there was a large enough gap in their ages - and the fact that alphonse “saved” caroline from poverty, creating an economical reliance on him - that there was an unhealthy power balance in their relationship. because of this dynamic, it really does read like grooming: alphonse houses caroline till she is (supposedly) old enough to marry, and by that time she would have been pushed into consenting to the marriage because she relied on him for money and housing, and could have some sort of emotional obligation to him as well for supporting her in a time of need and grief, and he is a significant link to her deceased father. this difference in their ages is highlighted again when victor notes that alphonse was in the decline of his life by the time he and caroline were having children together, and by the time victor is 19 alphonse is old enough that he is physically incapable of traveling to ingolstadt.
in this way their relationship is pseudo-incestous, because alphonse (her father’s age) swoops in to support caroline (a child) after her father dies. this makes himself the father figure replacement, and caroline his daughter. once she is of age she transitions from the role of daughter to wife, and during her marriage caroline will go on to repeat this cycle of abuse, and recreate this same dynamic - except this time, it is in a situation that she can control: through victor and elizabeth.
from the beginning caroline deliberately sets up parallels between herself and elizabeth. she wants a daughter, and adopts elizabeth specifically because elizabeth reminds her of herself, but grander: like she was, elizabeth is also a beggar and an orphan and homeless, but her story is more tragic, she is more beautiful, her debt to her caretakers more extreme, and her romantic relationship will go on to be more explicitly incestous. caroline calls elizabeth her favorite and grooms her into becoming a second version of herself, so that she can recreate the traumatic event of her marriage with her two children.
so, as caroline dictates the marriage between victor and elizabeth, victor becomes to elizabeth what alphonse was to caroline: a man, who is also a familial figure, that she must marry in order to have a stable social and economic life. the frankensteins have provided elizabeth with everything she has, and the threat is there that they can also take it away if she does not comply (through marrying victor), which is the same kind of looming, unspoken threat that hung over caroline and alphonse’s marriage.

Cancer Women
Title: “The Pearl”
Tumblr media
For simplicity's sake, I will use the pronouns “he/him” for the male versions of the signs and “she/her” for the female versions of the signs. This is not to say that the people who identify with the male or female versions of each sign identify with those pronouns. This post is focusing on the different sexes (male vs female) not gender. Gender is fluid and I am in no way labeling people with these posts. Also, these posts are focusing solely on the Sun signs of each zodiac, other birth chart placements may cause someone to not fit into everything I have described.
Masterlist
Mind (how they think):
Cancer woman is the most emotive sign in the zodiac.
She wears her heart on her sleeve, needing to express her emotions even when others would say it is unwise to do so.
She often grew up in a female dominated household. Where her mother is the master and her father is a vague, if not, mellow figure.
Her first instinct when she is young is to fight her feelings. She will ignore her whole emotional state all together.
She typically feels overly exposed, which is why you can see a Cancer woman become very cold and hardened. (a nod to her crab rulership)
She is a walking-talking harbinger of hope. She is all smiles all the time, even when she is crying. Furthermore, she is the epitome of sunshine in a person.
She embodies the Mother-Goddess archetype.
The thing with the Cancer woman is, her emotions are meant to wash away negative influences from her life environment and allow for a new, pure future.
The home life she is typically born into is one that is in “ruins” with emotional unrest and most often ransacked with divorce.
She will typically be the offspring of a first marriage and will be faced with step siblings from her parent's second marriage.
Contrary to popular astrological belief, the Crab female is not the nurture of the zodiac (this will be a relief to her) she is the type to try and “fix” things for others, particularly men, as a substitute to facing her own self-improvement process.
The archetypal blueprint for the Cancer woman’s condition is revealed in the story of Cinderella.
Cinderella doesn’t merely overcome her upbringing, she scores real big – landing a prince and a palace and all that happily ever after stuff – while never compromising her own moral character, getting even with all life’s bitches without so much as uttering one moan.
The Cancer woman knows that complaining is a waste of emotional energy that’s meant to be channeled into one and only one emotional action: having hope.
Cancer isn’t going to be “saved” by playing the victim but must instead pull herself up by the emotional bootstraps and take action, letting the world, particularly that of men, see her very best self.
Her best self comes from going through, not around, the negative aspects of her condition.
All Cancer women are witches without quite realizing it.
She feels things are going to happen, and by trusting these inklings, they do.
She goes with her gut with almost all things in her life
Cancer women normally grow up in a female dominated household. One where their mother subconsciously places herself between the Cancer and her father.
In some cases, the Cancer woman is under her mom’s thumb, “enslaved” by constant chores or restrictive curfews.
Her mother may be something of a doormat to men, which does not set an example for the cancer woman on what feminine strength is.
Her mother will oftentimes overcompensate for her being so submissive to men by being cruel to other women.
Growing up under this type of mother sends the Cancer woman mixed signals on what it means to be a woman.
From an early age, the Cancer woman starts to bottle up her emotions for fear of some punishment, emotional or otherwise.
Usually as soon as she is legally able to do so, she will move out of her childhood home.
This sets up Cancer's main perspective in life. Being ruled by the 4th house, the house of the home you come from and the home you make.
More than any other woman in the zodiac, Cancer is the most likely to shack up at an early age. Usually with the first man who gives her hope for a better future.
In an effort to escape and transcend her own mother issues, Cancer may be so grateful to the first prince who comes along that she gives her full self to him, unquestioningly, making a god of him much in the manner her mother made of men.
Body + Soul (what they look like inside and out):
She typically only shows her “dark” side to other women, due to her mother wound, while keeping a smile on her face for men.
She may at times trade in her sweetheart pin for a party girl routine. However, if you ever come across a Cancer who is the proverbial party girl, this is usually a sign of a Cancer in a lot of pain and denial. Often, literally dancing as fast as she can in an effort to escape the chaotic emotions being put into her self-evolutionary path.
Cancer women typically look like they are always about to cry. It’s their default expression, a pouty mouth and welling eyes. They can also cry at the drop of a hat.
No other woman in the zodiac inspires more jealousy than the Cancer woman. She is typically stealing most if not all the male attention, and this makes other women jealous.
There are two types of ways to spot the Cancer woman. She is either the one laughing too loud and talking too loud, or she is the one moping in the corner, whispering only to her partner.
She typically wears colorful, curvaceous cut clothes that portray some sort of feminine stereotype.
When she is interested in someone, subtlety is not her approach. She will throw herself at the object of her affection, leaving no questions as to her interest.
Whether she is in a relationship, she requires, even demands, regular sex.
Cancer women either have big boobs, or tiny boobs, there's really no in between.
They tend to embody the stereotype of a blonde woman, whether they are blonde or not.
Usually, though, she does have relatively light hair when compared to the other members of her family.
She will often wear her hair loose and long.
If her hair isn’t naturally straight, she will straighten it most of the time.
She usually isn't one to wear a ton of makeup. She prefers the natural look.
Generally, she will enter the job force at a young age and work her way through school. This is because she finds an anchor at work that she does not find at home.
She is rarely content being the low lady on the totem pole and, from her first day on the job, she will begin anticipating her own advancement.
She may use associates as stepping stones, blurring the lines between professional and personal involvements, specifically with men who’ll make up the bulk of her supporters.
When it comes to her own fulfillment, Cancer takes an all-others-be-damned attitude, particularly sandbagging fellow women.
What friends she has that are women will be unapologetic types, just like her.
Sex + Sexuality (what they are like in bed and what they look for in a mate):
Cancer Woman Interested in Men:
Most of the time she is the one who was in a serious, steady relationship in high school.
Her type is usually the traditionally minded, athletic, all-American male version of herself.
Even when she is sixteen, she is actively thinking of marriage.
She makes a man feel like the big, strong protector.
She is drawn to stoical males from stable, if not rigid, backgrounds.
Because of the void left by her father, she will often gravitate towards the stereotypical unemotional, insensitive, or even unattainable types. This is because she believes these qualities are linked to conventional masculinity.
She is not one for casual crushes. She swoons, cries, and pines for her love and the desire for it to be returned.
More than most women, sex to the Cancer woman is far too easily confused with love.
She believes that sex is a means to emotional repair.
She doesn’t require a man who’ll come to her emotional rescue, but one who’ll sacrifice himself to the watery rush of her emotions, willing to be swallowed into her delightful vortex.
She is far too often being drawn to such loveless creeps, domineering guys whose tyranny she misreads as loving attention.
She needs a true equal partner, a prince among men, not some tyrannical king who’ll expect her to do his bidding.
She prefers to be on the giving end, in sex, even when she is in a submissive role.
She gets the most pleasure from pleasuring her partner.
She isn’t into rough sex. She wants it long and deep, both literally and figuratively.
She wants you to be very enthusiastic, if you are not, she will lose interest.
She loves to go down on a guy. After all, the Moon rules both saliva and vaginal lubrication.
She may be a total bitch to other women, and completely dismissive of men who don’t make her stomach flip, but toward a guy she has feelings for, she will act like the wide-eyed, baby talking, overly adoring, and indulgent worshiper.
She will fawn and fondle her partner, always having to touch or kiss or cling in some coy manner.
She is predisposed to being a sex addict.
Nobody uses sex to fill the emotional void, much like a Cancer woman.
Her looking to lovers and lovemaking for emotional rescue is not done in vain.
She is not one to skirt over any issues that come up in a relationship. Rather, she uses her sign's motto, “I feel” and feels their full importance. She embraces her feelings, finds closure and moves on.
For most Cancer women, life is about securing emotional balance. And sex plays a huge part in Cancer’s feeling her way toward this destination.
Even if she has been with her partner for a million years, she will still seek to stir something fresh into the sexual mix.
She can juggle more than one man at a time. Though, she is always looking for the man she believes is the ideal mate; a clean-cut Clark Kent type who she’ll put through their sexual paces.
She may even keep a few men on a leash that she will only use for sex.
She could also be into swinging, or polyamory.
Most of the time, a Cancer woman is conducting sex magic, whether she is aware of it or not. She is so completely involved in the act and is naturally attuning herself to the experience, never letting it consume her, she harnesses the transformative power of sex, forever conjuring from it what she needs as emotional sustenance.
Her perfect partner will not be a sexual player, and he will not judge her for being one.
Once she finds this man, she will leave her old ways behind and be all in with him.
She will eagerly take on the role of happy homemaker in the light of day – even if she is a more nine to five type – while playing the role of the happy hooker at night.
She can easily leave the kids at home with the sitter and accompany her partner to the strip club or swingers club.
She is down for a threesome with her guy and another woman.
Cancer Woman Interested in Women:
Cancer woman knows that she is typically more sexually advanced than other females, and she thrives on the idea of seducing a straitlaced, more “proper” type than herself in bed.
Unlike an Aries woman who wants to dominate another woman and teach them a lesson, a Cancer woman wants to open a woman up, demonstrating her knowledge of how to pleasure another girl.
She is particularly good at oral, and it is her favorite thing to do.
More likely than not, she will take on the role of both nurturer and the one to rule the roost.
It is the way that she goes about life at her own rhythm, being an emblem of self-sufficiency, by which she primarily attracts other women to her.
She appears a beacon of female strength and womanhood.
She is a gently pushy partner. She invests more than other women into her partner's well-being.
She is an emotional mentor, not a logistical one, never barking orders but nonetheless cautioning and careful, rather like a second-grade teacher as opposed to a headmistress.
Age typically isn’t a factor in her pursuit of a partner, but her type is typically the wholesome girl-next-door who she seeks to instill her own intensely feminine wiles.
Foreplay, especially, may be a fulfilling, extended affair, filled with lingering, touching, and kissing.
Worship is the keynote to the gay Cancer’s sex life. She expects to be ravished and if you satisfy her she will return the favor.
She loves to have her boobs fondled, sucked, nibbled, and squeezed, giving and receiving massages, cuddling, and mutually stroking for hours.
Reciprocation in the bedroom is a must to the Cancer woman.
There will be an emphasis on gender issues and self-help in the relationship. This is because she wants to help her partner reach self-realization.
She will usually be the type to not shave any part of her body because she is looking to make a statement against societal images of, and constraints put upon, women.
She feels sex is something to be practiced as a spiritual discipline; and she endows each and every erotic experience with that sort of significance.
She generally embraces the lesbian cause, politically, and tends to use the platform or her sexual preference as a means of wielding power, not only whiting the gay community, but in society at large.
While the straight Cancer might employ her sexuality as a viable means of getting to the top of her profession, the gay Cancer, will instead ball-bust the big boys all the more in ensuring she gets the gold if she’s the right individual for the job.
For both the gay and straight Cancer, they will usually find their perfect match in the workplace.
She maintains a high opinion of herself and her accomplishments.
Regardless of particulars, she will always think of herself and her partner as the power-couple-to-beat, making key social appearances together at functions of social, culture, or political import.
She is not one for a quickie, she strives to profoundly pleasure her partner, never coming up for air.
She expects the same in return, and she will not tolerate any beating around the bush.
Sex is a private affair to her, and she will be opposed to having a third party enter the bedroom with her and her partner.
She is ultimately concerned with establishing a stable home life.
To her monogamy is of utmost importance and sanctity on that score is a most effective aphrodisiac.

Hunter head canons #4
These head canons focus on Hunter home life. They next one will focus on Hunter life in Gravefield in general.
After the finale I imagine Hunter actually staying in the Human realm for bit since things would be pretty chaotic in the demon realm. Especially regarding the Emperors coven. Realistically I can’t imagine many witches or demons happy with the ex Golden Guard, Belos right hand man walking around freely, especially with emotions running high. You know almost being killed then having the collector take over, then almost being killed again.
Just imagine all the legal and ethic issues, (will get to this another time)
Camila basically being Hunter’s mom now. I personally don’t think Darius should be Hunter parental figure. I think Hunter should be with someone who hasn’t harmed him, especially after years of trauma and another major traumatic experience happening to him (looking at you Thanks to them). Hunter can reconnect and be friends with Darius another time. I also think Darius would be more focused fixing the demon realm then accommodate Hunters needs. Right now Hunter needs a guardian that will give him what he needs.
Anyways
Once hunter moves into the Human realm, I imagine Vee staying with him in the basement for a while since he’s afraid of being alone. (Everyone is scared of leaving him alone too). I imagine they develop a close bond with each other, different from how they bond with others, since they are both basically Belos, abused, illegal creations. After awhile they trust him to be alone.
Luz often stays at the demon realm and on those nights, Vee and Hunter swap rooms. Vee liking the basement due to how open it is and Hunter liking to smaller room. I imagine Hunter liking cramped, smaller spaces like closets due to how open the throne room was. Vee liking open spaces due to being forced into cages. Vee probably also constantly keeps doors open and probably showers with the door open too. (Might do some Vee head canons too!)
Mirrors had to be covered for a bit due to Hunter being unable to stand the sight of himself again. They teach him how to love himself again like how he did in “Thanks to them”. Though they do sometimes catch him staring deeply at his scars or brown eyes.
Him a Vee are often spotted hanging out with each other, with Vee often leaning on Hunter. When on the couch she’ll rest on him or lay her head on his lap. In return, during the sleep overs, Vee will curl around Hunter. I imagine Hunter being both a big and little spoon.
Hunter often goes to bed with Camila on bad nights. After all he never received that comfort before in the castle. He’s hesitant at first due to being “too old” to be resting with an adult. Camila insist that no one is to big for their moms. Hunter definitely doesn’t cry at this.
Different bonding stuff with Hunter Noceda :)
We all know that Darius taught Hunter to sew properly and it ended up becoming a hobby of his. Camila sees this a teaches Hunter to knit as well. Soon Hunter is knitting all sorts of things like beanies, sweaters, bags, etc. Hunter learns other crafts like crocheting, embroidery, weaving, ect. That boy is very crafty.
Camila shows that Hunter doesn’t just need to sew cloths but that he can also sew things like stuff animals, clothes for animals, and other neat stuff. He quickly becomes obsessed with making clothes and accessories for Palismen
Hunter starts volunteering at the Vet clinic and animal shelter with Vee and Camila and quickly realizes he has a bit of a affinity with Animals..
Hunter and Vee both like watching TV and bond together that way. They both like horror due to them being a bit desensitized but won’t watch films that focus on torture (saw sequels, hostel, ect) but they do like 90s and 80s horror. However they stoped watching Horror that has to due with possession after the ‘incident.’ They also like comedies though Hunter gets confused by the jokes and Vee has to explain it to him (even if she also doesn’t understand, she tries).
Hunter and Camila bond with 70s and 80s punk rock music. Bands like Green Day, Sex Pistols, Misfits, ect. Luz introduces him to the world of fandom music like FNAF or BATIM and he quickly becomes hooked. Also vocaloid. Vee likes metal and shows him all sorts of genres and songs, from alternative metal like Korn and System of the down to death metal like Cannibal corpse and Carcass. He prefers Punk but will happily listen to the music with her.
Hunter manages to drag Camila back into her Cosmic Frontier addiction.
They all go to cons together! Comic con, Anime con, sci fi con, ect. They do family cosplays!
Luz and Hunter draw together. Luz is surprised to see Hunter can actually sketch pretty good. He isn’t very good with fine details or color but he drew stuff in journals relating to wild magic, flapjack, Belos and battle plans. He good at sketching buildings, beasts, and plants. He can draw witches forms real good but struggles in finer details like faces, clothes, ect. Unlike luz’s character heavy art. While luz draws with pencils, markers, color pencils, and acrylic paints. Hunter is a charcoal, ink, and color pencil and water color type if guy. He draws a lot of animals, especially wolves. He makes to many wolf oc’s. He has folders full of drawings and extensive lore on them. Luz teaches him how to make drawings expressive, in return he teaches her how to draw buildings. They make collaborative art with Hunter doing the backgrounds and Luz adding characters.
Luz gets hunter hooked on Warrior cats and Balto.
Luz and Hunter exercise together. Or at least try to. Luz as she got used to an active life style in the boiling isles and Hunter due to being used to vigorous training. However this oftentimes turned into ‘Hunter basically torturing Luz’ session as he can be intense. Like getting up at 5:30 am and being like “you wanna run 6 miles with me” or “lets do 20 circuits”. Luz at first tries keeping up at first in disbelief before noticing Hunter also tends to overwork himself during these sessions. After a while she and the others convince him he doesn’t need to due all this, especially if it’s hurting him. Soon he starts waking up at 6:20 am and works out in a easier way to maintain. He and Luz are now able to go on comfortable jogs and hikes together.
Luz teaches Hunter and Vee how to ride bikes after realizing neither of them could. Hunter takes his bike safely very seriously.
Camila teaches Hunter to drive and he gets very excited as it’s like flying a ship. The whole family often go on drives together and blast on music.
Hunter becomes a history nerd with both Human history from do research on Gravefield and the Demon realm after him and Lilith discover historical text that Belos hid away. Hunter learns more about the history of Grimwalkers rather then just the biology and myths. (Spoiler alert, it’s not a very happy, will dive into it). He tells Lilith a lot about Human realm history. They slowly become friends through info dumping.
Hunter learning how to cook with Camila. He makes food for his friends and family! He’s decent at first, after all this guy definitely had survival training. He probably knows how to gut and skin certain beasts. Likely offered to do it for Camila when she talked about needing to buy food. She kindly declined his offer.
Hunter loves Camila’s cooking, he never had such homemade meals. He often had MRE’s or fancy cooked meals when attending dinner with Belos sometimes. Those were hit or miss. Sometimes going great or sometimes ending with him being poisoned or abused in some sort of way. When Luz says she wants fast food, Hunter is like “why? Mo- Camilas food is so good”. He loves his mamas cooking
Hunter making stuff animals infused with herbs and flowers (like lavender) and potions for calming effects. He makes them for his family and friends. He even starts selling some in the demon realm when tensions calm down.
That’s if for now lol. Sorry for any spelling or grammar issues I’ll edit this in the future.

the more i think about your mom lucy hc, the more i really adore it. if you don't mind me asking questions about it, what's her general dynamic with kieran & carmine? is she a single mom? how does dahlia fit into the picture?
SORRY THIS TOOK SO LONG TO REPLY TO MY BRAINS BEEN. TRYING . the thoughts are disconnected but by god there are thoughts everything below the readmore
But! Hi hello welcome to Oh lord this family needs therapy and counselling . ! Honestly I have been going into everything with the idea of her being a single mom w/ them! It;s very much a situation of like.... Parent that works away from home constantly, so the relationship is just unfortunately naturally more strained kinda thing .
Tumblr media
With all this i go with like.... The idea that they were very much born in Hoenn and lived there with Lucy until Carmine was approximately 9 or so, and Kieran was 7 [I do like to imagine they're 16 and 14 respectively as of the dlcs]. Work being so remote and stuff plus worrying about their education and all just led to living with their grandparents in Kitakami being the best decision for their development as yknow, People. I like to imagine Lucy visits periodically throughout the year and such to check in :> just takes a bit of coordinating. Also shes absolutely the reason they're able to go to blueberry for highschool via both making sure they Can go there financially and putting a word in to a battle focused school of them being kids of a facility head :p even if realistically Lucy isnt the strongest head by any means lol . it's kinda like if an E4 member put a good word in situation. And we can see with Lacey and Drayton both going there... gestures. I wouldnt be surprised if more children of different league figures go to it or schools LIKE it. But thats besides the point Lucy absolutely like, struggles with her emotions and such. Even from the small bits of dialogue we have from her? Maybe its just my autistic ass reading too much into it LMAO but . gestures .
Tumblr media
i feel like if this werent a kids game she'd just tell you to fuck off to your face here
Tumblr media
sorry just more quick looking too much into dialogue but. cmon. CMON. ...She's . definitely influenced how carmine and kieran act at least somewhat .
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Carmine might be the easiest to point a finger to as being like her mom but i genuinely think that it;s actually Kieran who ended up the most Like her, yknow it;s incredibly obvious to point a finger at Kieran during indigo disk and how he talks as being her fault a little bit :p anyways thats just me vaguely mumbling abt that. AS FOR. DYNAMICS. Kieran isnt as close to his mom as Carmine is just due to everything with living with their grandparents. Theres also absolutely like.... Very much a gap because he stopped seeing her as much when he was younger, while Carmine was only a year off of being like. Legally start being a pokemon trainer age. And its just Awkward, relation wise, just because of how little she actually sees them through the years, especially when the discussion would slowly shift to more "How are your studies?" "How are you doing in school?" "How is your pokemon training going?" once they start going to blueberry. Which i don't think was ment to come off as uncaring for them and only focusing on training as it did from Lucy's end, but I dont really think she knew what else to ask and all, because she stopped being able to really pick up on their interests as much as they got older. Plus thats just kinda How she talks... With the importance on strength and luck n all that. Then with all this I imagine she like. Probably only called once maybe twice between the dlc plots n all? And once again with just mainly the training questions it was just a sour spot. I wouldn't doubt Kieran would also struggle with not wanting to be in a shadow/the nepo baby accusations /j that I fully think if Drayton knows about he'd tease him and Carmine about. So like. All that with the instilled importance of ones strength :sob: Lucy you were not helping the Kieran situation. Hell I don't really think she would of even known about anything going down between Kitakami to Blueberry with Kieran just because neither of them wanted to tell her at all? Because again just that Awkward connection between them, just the permanent fog on all communication that feels like someone said something wrong at all times and it got too awkward to finish. IDK I think im waffling on I don't know how to formulate my thoughts the best LMFAO BUT I THINK... DYNAMICS WOULD CHANGE POST-MOCHI MAYHEM ESP. Bc i KNOW she'd find out after carmine and kieran nearly fucking DIE in the underdepths and everything hits her in the back of her head at once that she needs to repair what she can w/ them because she almost lost them. Probably means taking an extended leave from working at the Pike so she doesn't have to worry about scheduling to see them in person for only a short period of time. Especially if the times line up for them having any extended break from school . It's never going to be perfect, far from it, with their dynamics and all but. gestures. Briar needs to sleep with one eye open for a bit at least. in short
Tumblr media
AS FOR. DAHLIA im in turbo hell because I can not see? the siblings ending up like they did if she was also around? Shes such a force of positivity as a person im just. blinks a bit. Im in hell bc i adore the ship as my big rarepair ill die on a hill for but nobody expected the kitakami siblings especially not me so . i think if they ever do get together it'd be somewhere nearer to scarvio era which just. yeah. see image below

I've been working on my Familiar AU more and finished another old sketch. Meet another of my OCs, her name's Maggie.
Tumblr media
She’s like a wet cat and I love her. Also she’s Grell’s biological mother (I wouldn’t have bothered to make parents for Grell but I felt like they were needed to explain her personality and behavior lol).
-Margaret Katherine Müller (née O’Sullivan) -Irish -Born in May 20th, 1838 -Widow
Full backstory under the cut, be warned that it's very long lmao.
The following character bio deals with topics like violent death of a significant other, major injury and trauma, reproductive coercion, unwanted parenthood, child emotional neglect and eventual abandonment, and misogyny. Also I’ll be using he/him for Grell for most of it as she figured herself out years after these events and she views her past self as a different person (I won't be revealing her deadname tho).
Maggie emigrated to England with her elderly aunt and uncle and an older cousin, the latter of whom set off to work in a farm in the other side of the country.
She befriended a boy called Gustav, son of a German couple who owned a shop that Maggie’s aunt visited often. By their teenage years they were sweethearts.
When Maggie’s aunt and uncle passed away, Gustav's parents were delighted to take her in.
They got married as soon as they legally could. They did talk about children, but agreed that it wasn’t something they really wanted. They didn’t change their minds even after six years of marriage.
Their neighbourhood was peaceful, the only time they heard about anything unusual was when the neighbours started warning each other about a werebeast that had been seen roaming nearby.
One night they were taking a stroll through the park and that’s where they saw it. It looked like a starving stray cat, only as big as a horse. As soon as they made a move, the beast charged at them. It mauled Gustav beyond recognition and would’ve mauled Maggie too if it wasn’t for a group of armed neighbors that were patrolling nearby and shot it dead just in time as it was biting her leg.
The woman was rushed to the hospital. The doctors managed to save her leg, but said she’d probably need a cane to walk.
After some rehabilitation she was finally ready to go home and the doctor came in to give his final report. He said they wanted to run a few tests first but now could safely say it: she was pregnant.
They got home and she heard her in-laws talking excitedly. She finally snapped out of it. She didn’t want a child, she could never be a good mother. All she wanted was to mourn in peace, to be left alone. She didn’t want this baby and didn’t want this pregnancy.
You can’t just say that. Your husband has left you the most precious gift a woman could ever receive. We know you can be a wonderful mother. This child will bring us so much joy, please don’t deny that to us.
And so she complied. She kept telling herself that maybe this child would really be a beautiful reminder of her husband. And when she finally had the baby in her arms, she looked down at him and felt nothing but regret.
She still hoped that she’d bond with the baby over time but that never happened. Her in-laws had her come live with them and they didn’t leave her side for the first months. After a while they went back to their usual routine and the new mother was left alone with the infant for long periods, thinking What now?
The kid was spoiled rotten by his grandparents. Maggie did her best to hide her unhappiness behind a polite smile, but at the same time she just did the bare minimum to keep the kid alive and wasn’t really there emotionally.
Maggie thought that maybe she could endure this until the kid was old enough to not want to be around her as often, but BY GOD was it hard. One day he was being particularly fussy and, in the middle of a tantrum, she finally snapped and grabbed him by his arm a little too roughly. He broke into tears, shrieking dramatically. Maggie had had enough.
And so one day she finally bailed out. She had previously written to her cousin, who agreed to take her in to live and work at the farm without questioning her.
Her in-laws were LIVID. What kind of woman abandons her own child without looking back? They continued to raise their grandkid as best as they could, which meant spoiling him even more and turning him into an entitled brat in the process.
The kid started hating his mother. All his life all he’d ever wanted was to be hugged by her, to hear some words of affection. But he never got anything beyond some headpats and faint smiles and now she was gone, that whore.
It wasn’t easy for Maggie to begin her new life, but she didn’t regret it for one second. With enough time she got used to the demanding farm life and became happier than she had been in a long time. She never remarried and lived a long, fullfiling life.
A couple of years later, when Grell was rummaging through her grandparents' belongings to see what she could take before running away in search of adventure, she found a letter addressed to them. It was from her mother, apparently answering to another letter they had sent to her in which they begged her to come visit Grell. The last lines read Do not contact me about this child again, he is not my responsibility, I do not have anything to do with him anymore. In fact, do not contact me again at all, we are not family anymore.
〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️
If you've made it this far then thank you, I might have gotten a bit carried away lmao 🙏🏻

Hey! As far as I understand, in the US you guys have to do an undergraduate degree before doing law school. Do you have any opinion on what Matt would’ve taken at undergrad?
Also I just want to say that I really love your writing and your posts are genuinely making me consider a career path that I’d never thought about before! I’d always sort of dismissed being a lawyer because I’m quite shy about public speaking, so I never really thought about how much I like the law in itself. It’s so interesting!
EEEEEEEEE this is exciting! The world needs more lawyers - especially more lawyers going into it for the right reasons. So many lawyers just care about the money or the power (or their parents' approval), which means there's a dire need for lawyers who want to help people.
And I just wanna say: law doesn't require public speaking. Criminal law kinda does (you're pretty much always showing up for hearings and trials in criminal law), but civil law...not so much. Civil law has some hearings and depositions, but very few civil cases go to trial. The vast majority of it is sitting at a desk, writing and researching. Although you do have to be able to meet with victims and witnesses, and that makes some people nervous. (That still makes me nervous, actually.) But it's not public speaking, I think?
You could also try to be a full-time law clerk. Most judges hire clerks for only a year or two, but some take on clerks permanently. As a clerk, your job is 100% research and writing and preparing documents. You get all the fun of making brilliant legal points, but you can make those points safely on paper without having to stand up and present them.
However, I also do believe that public speaking is a skill, not just some natural talent. So I think it's always possible to get better. Here are my two absolute favorite resources on public speaking:
This amazing youtube channel (which isn't specifically for public speaking, but does address public speaking sometimes, and has a ton of general tips for building confidence, overcoming nervousness, turning awkwardness into charisma, etc.); and
This lifesaving book (which is the best book I've read on public speaking, hands-down, and I highly recommend it even for people who aren't lawyers because although it's written for lawyers, the content is overall about how you approach public speaking [how to both feel and appear more confident, etc.] rather than the content of what you're saying. I literally love this book so much!)
Oh, you also asked about Matt. XD
My undergrad was political science, so I like the idea of Matt doing the same just because #relatable. But I don't actually think of him as a poli-sci guy. Like, Karen is the one who's more concerned with broad social structures. Matt seems more interested with figuring out what he's supposed to do than he is with figuring out what society is supposed to do. Matt seems to say: "The system is broken, but I can help as a lawyer, and where I can't help as a lawyer, I can help as a vigilante." He's not the one invested in uncovering corruption or dismantling oppressive systems.
I think of him as more like a history guy. Partly because of the Thurgood Marshall thing. But I imagine him digging into the history books, finding people who inspire him, and modeling his life after them (when he's not angsting about whether he could live up to them).
That said, I secretly ADORE the idea of Matt as a math major. My mock trial coach in high school tried to convince me to be a math major myself, and although I didn't go that route (I'm more like Karen; I wanted to research social and political issues), there's a lot of wisdom to it. Math is logic, after all. And it's pure logic.
If I say "a + b = c," there's no emotion there. But if I say something like "police + poverty = ____" ...y'all already are having an emotional reaction, right? And you're filling in the blank with something. You're likely filling the blanks in based on emotion and anecdotes, since I think most of us have a strong opinion about this, but most of us probably haven't done a deep statistical study into the issues.
As a lawyer, if you care about truth, it's absolutely vital to be able to use logic both to make your arguments and to figure out which arguments you should be making in the first place. We can't completely ditch our personal biases, but I do believe studying math helps work those parts of your brain that can analyze a problem with logic and without using emotion and anecdotes as a shortcut.
So yeah, I love the idea of Matt being good at math.

MY AMAZING DIGITAL HEADCANONS
(under cut so people doomscrolling don’t see an unwanted million foot long text wall)
Pomni’s real life name was Martha, Kinger’s was Arthur, and Queenie’s was Elizabeth
Kinger and Queenie are Pomni’s parents
Pomni is transfem
Jax is transmasc
Queenie was everyone’s mom figure in the circus before she abstracted, including Jax’s
Gangle has written fanfiction about everyone’s backstories
Zooble was an unrealized trans person before he wound up in the circus
Kinger has been in the circus for 10 years, Ragatha 7, Jax 5, Gangle 2, Zooble 6 months, and Pomni… well, just arrived
Jax was the youngest of four siblings, and prays for the day when someone younger than him enters the circus (his hopes got crushed by Zooble being half a year older than him)
Zooble has figured out how to get weed in the circus (Bubble is her supplier)
Jax liked Kaufmo’s humor
Jax can take off the purple part of his head, and he uses this to fuck with people
Caine doesn’t like it when people abstract because he develops his own form of emotional attachments
Kinger is Caine’s favorite and Caine regularly supplies him with insects
Kinger can command his bugs as if they were an army
Queenie abstracted between the arrivals of Jax and Gangle
Ragatha, Kinger, and Jax all regularly visit Queenie’s room
Bubble is intentionally chaotic, while Caine is unintentionally chaotic
Gangle’s favorite Pokémon is Sylveon
Everyone in the circus needs therapy for reasons other than being in the circus, especially Jax, Pomni, and Kinger
Yes, Bubble and Caine also need therapy
Jax used to write things down in a diary he got from Queenie, but he ran out of space in it, so he got Caine to give him another one, and he’s currently on his third because he doesn’t write every day
Jax actually writes a lot of things down, partly to remember things so he can fuck with people, partly as a coping mechanism
Every human in the circus writes things down to some extent
Jax’s real world mom was a piece of shit
Gangle is pansexual
Zooble is bisexual
Kinger is bisexual
Jax is asexual and aromantic
Pomni is bisexual
Ragatha is lesbian and biromantic
Caine is hella gay (hey, if Moon can have feelings for him, he can have feelings for men)
Moon is the only straight character
Kinger is autistic
Pomni is also autistic (with an anxiety disorder)
Queenie, I’m not sure about
Jax has ADHD
Jax is the one who wrote the theme song for the circus
Gangle has figured out a way to watch anime in the circus (definitely not legally), and Zooble joins her if they’re feeling bored
Ragatha was a model IRL (please don’t ask me why I headcanon this, I don’t know either)
I’d say more of my Jax headcanons, but they’re pretty dark, so I might put them in a fanfic instead. May or may not post that fanfic I may or may not write. No promises.

Law & Order, Season 23, episode 5: "Last Dance"
Blah, blah, blah, rich tech mogul commits murder to cover-up that he's a sexual predator. Variation on a tried-and-true story that the show has used since time immemorial.
But they had to make it more complicated to write Jack McCoy off the show.
@albatrossisland and @monidon, this one's for you.
In Seasons 18 and 19, you had Governor Donald Shalvoy and he was very clearly a fictionalized version of former NY Governor Eliot Spitzer. I guess they didn't want to anger the current NYC Mayor, Eric Adams, by having a fictionalized version of him being corrupt. But in the era of #MeToo where formerly untouchable powerful men (for decades) got away with all sorts of sexually predatory actions, it strains credulity that someone would not simply cut their losses and distance himself from the suspect. But you need an antagonist, right?
I'm often not a fan of the criticism that something is contrived. A story is a story and the actions a character takes are written to lead to a certain point. Everything is contrived in fiction. It's how well you do it.
Since the show came back, the writers show they simply cannot do it well. Everything has gotta be a twist, curve-ball, or an absurd social commentary (and I'm saying that about a show that did social commentary since episode ONE). If anyone is wondering where my gripe is on that last one, it goes back to my bone to pick with Nolan "Spineless Coward" Price giving IMMUNITY to a SCHOOL SHOOTER so he could PROSECUTE THE FATHER for the shooting.
Now, do I believe (in certain cases) parents should be held responsible for the actions of their children in this case? Absolutely. The Ethan Crumbley case in Michigan is a perfect example! There NOT definite warnings signs: There were FUCKING FIVE-ALARM BELLS and red flags the size of football fields that something was seriously wrong with the kid and he needed help, not for his mother to buy him a fucking gun. Parents were charged without any immunity. I still hold that against the writers.
Rick Eid's run as show-runner has demonstrated a clear lack of knowledge of character history on the show (Jack in particular), a lack of even the loosest understanding of the law works in the show's universe, and a desperate need for actual lawyers as consultants or on the writing staff.
I'm also convinced that writers hate Hugh Dancy. The guy has acting chops, he was wonderful in HANNIBAL. But like… refer to my earlier description of Nolan Price.
Which brings us to Jack's sendoff and the overall story.
Mayor Payne? Yeah, that's certainly subtle.
I often think back to how Jack (and Mike Cutter) fought back against the GOVERNOR and they can't handle the freaking mayor? Writers, what the fuck?
I guess where the writers got something right was Jack believes in justice for the victim, regardless of who you are. And they gave Jack one last courtroom battle. And, on one hand, it is fitting. They wanted Jack to go out in a figurative blaze of glory. He was alone in the court, no second chair. I do wonder if he thought about all the second chairs he's had and how they helped him along the way (I am getting weirdly emotional writing this). And despite the fact he got burned, he managed to burn his enemies on the way out.
But this isn't the end I wanted.
Sometimes, a low-key ending is suitable for a character who worked (by my own calculation) 50-plus years in the DA's office (perhaps closer to 60 years). Who tried some significant cases, contributed to case-law that the show SHOULD HAVE REFERENCED, mentored each of his second chairs after Claire and Jamie. Mentored Mike Cutter.
Jack simply deciding just to retire and not run for re-election and spend the rest of his days fixing his relationship with his daughter, spend time with his grandson, write a book, maybe be a talking-head on legal shows (no, I can't see that), fine. But I wish they could have convinced Sam Waterston to finish out the season, maybe recording something so they show a goodbye party or SOMETHING to start next season, and then have the newly-elected DA introduced. That would have been more satisfying.
As for everything else about this episode. Couldn't the writers, I don't know, research and clarify their own damn show?
Ben Stone
Jack McCoy
Mike Cutter
All Executive Assistant District Attorneys. I know there was some debate on whether or not Nolan Price was actually an EADA. But now he's Deputy District Attorney? What? Writers, there are other EADAs in the DA's office. I realize that the writers have always played fast-and-loose on the hierarchy of the fictional DAs office. SVU had Chief Assistant District Attorney Charlie Philips who spoke of "assigning" a case to Jack McCoy, which I always took more as a administrative role versus a trial role, which put him above Jack in whatever hierarchy worked in the show.
But there were times it very much seemed like Jack WAS the next person in charge if the DA was unavailable until his own appointment.
And then you have the board shown in Season 21 where it seems they had dug it out of storage since it still hate Mike and Connie listed, with Mike being "Chief Assistant District Attorney" before they changed it to "Nolan Price" by the next episode.
I've always been frustrated with the sloppiness of the writing since the show came back and this just adds to the pile.
"It's been a hell of a ride."
It has. I started this show in September of 1998 and even in the periods I didn't watch it too much, there was some comfort that Jack was always there. And I delayed watching this because I just couldn't accept the end.
And now I have.
Memories of days gone by.

Rika.
Love her or hate her, no Mystic Messenger player can deny that she is central to the overarching plot of the game.
Depending on your view of her, her major role in Ray (Saeran) After Ending is either intriguing, exciting, frustrating, or infuriating.
Personally, I loved the portrayal, insight, and development in Rika during the RAE. Read below the cut for my Rika thoughts. Spoilers abound for Ray's route, RAE, Rika Behind, and even the Secret Ending. Also, uh, it's a long post. Longcat long.
(If you're interested in opinions on the RAE from a Saeran-loving POV, I'd suggest you consult @marshmallowprotection who pours her heart and soul into her analyses, especially regarding Saeran.)
If you're reading now, I'm assuming you have enough background in the game's lore where I don't need to explain the basics, so I'm going to dive right in.
At the start of Another Story, our well-intentioned but common-sense-challenged MC ends up being personally escorted to Mint Eye. And MC chooses to fixate on Ray and his mysteries and allure, ultimately trusting the not-so-honest rose boy instead of the highly mysterious V, who apparently is not an AI but also should not be anywhere near this cult.
In MC's defense, sometimes it's easier to choose the evil you know versus the evil you don't.
Rika doesn't have a problem with this, initially. She knows that she needs to throw Ray a bone. Allowing him to have a little doll like MC to dress up and pose and control and adore will appease him, and he has a plan to make MC useful for her goals, anyway. It's a win in her book, to keep Ray indebted to his Savior and also the possibility of luring the RFA members to her faster.
But a major distinction exists between Rika in Another Story (AS) and Rika in the original timeline (OS). Much like Saeran's mental state deteriorated further over the extra year and 6 months (give or take) between AS and OS, giving us Unknown, so did Rika's. In the SE, she explicitly tells Unknown that he was a failure and she wanted Saeyoung instead. She no longer valued Saeran's prior contributions to Mint Eye or her mental state--she wanted results now, and she would sacrifice anyone and anything to achieve them.
(Well, almost anyone. Turns out sacrificing V was not what she wanted, after all.)
But her goals are different in Another Story. She's still pursuing her dreams of making people happy by "saving" them from a tainted world of pain, but she's still itching for the personal happiness she has wanted all her life: love.
She wants a loving family. She has never known what it feels like to have a family that loves her, as her earliest memories are in the orphanage, and she was adopted by a vile, hateful woman who cursed her and subjected her to physical and emotional pain, verbal abuse, neglect, humiliation, warped "religious" cult ideas of sin and salvation, and the list goes on.
When she learned of two twin children who needed loving, protective parental figures... she became obsessed. She could save them. Nobody ever saved her, but she could save them.
That delusion of forming a happy family with V and the twins only became worse after Mother Choi's death. (I hesitate to call it a murder, because it was an act of imperfect self-defense, and thus I'd argue it was voluntary manslaughter under USA law. But if we're being technical, under Korean law it's murder under extenuating circumstances. Legal jargon differs across countries.) Having taken Saeran's mother away from him, Rika got the idea that she needed to be his mother now. They would both have a good family now--that's a win-win, right?
This is the Rika we still see in Another Story. That's why she gives him the name Ray, to eliminate his past and all traces of V and Saeyoung, molding him into her obedient, doting son. That's why she dresses him up in layers upon layers and forces him to study hacking, so she can control every aspect of her sweet child. That's why she swipes Ray after she catches wind of his kiss with MC in the garden. She doesn't know or care who instigated the kiss; all she needs to know is that MC poses a risk to her fantasy, her game of house.
So she tortures Ray until he can become her puppet-son again. Except she ends up with Suit Saeran, and for the time being she'll allow that because at least he isn't tripping head over heels for MC.
That backfires too, and when Saeran frees himself of that stuffy suit and allows his body to breathe, once Saeran makes his own decision to abandon those shackles, follow his heart, apologize and atone for his wrongdoing, and break out of his gilded cage with MC... Rika loses it.
She's lost everything. Mint Eye be damned, she's lost her illusion that she will reach a "happily ever after."
So when V blames himself and crawls back to her, not wanting to see her crumble alone, she locks a collar and leash onto him. Honestly, it's the worst possible ending for V. He can't shake his self-hatred and guilt complex, and he feels the need to stand by Rika even as she sends them both on a path of destruction, because he refuses to abandon her like his father abandoned his mother. He didn't even love her anymore, but he wanted to give her the peace that he never could when they were together. This was how he felt he needed to pay for hurting her, even if it meant destroying himself.
Tumblr media
Okay, screenshot is a good place to wrap up the backstory and dive into the RAE itself.
I've seen complaints that Rika's character was inconsistent in the RAE, but candidly I think the fluctuations in her goals, emotions, and actions represent her fragile mental state in a phenomenal way. She was highly sensitive and susceptible to emotional influence, whether positive or negative. The seemingly smallest, most trivial events could send her reeling. She clearly has a lot of mental health issues and trauma that have never properly been addressed. Instead she turned to the worst possible coping mechanisms: comphet, making a cult, and brainwashing folks into being your make-believe family.
She didn't team up with Saejoong because she likes the guy. She sees him as a means to an end: getting the twins to live with her in her game of house.
Tumblr media
The "he" that Rika refers to in this chat is Saejoong. He's a horrendous parent, but he managed to capture Saeyoung, and therefore Rika sees him as a tool. She also is adamant that the younger twin is "Ray", not Saeran, because the boy she needs for her happy ending is the submissive one with pruned wings, not the independent one who flies away on his wings of love.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If MC tries to inquire into Rika's motivations, she simply says she chooses happiness and to focus on the small joys in life. She's no longer as guarded and high-strung, because she has much less to lose. She doesn't feel the need to be perfect, to be a Savior. She's at peace with herself, instead of constantly seeking approval. Part of that cab be attributed to V's (reluctant) acceptance of Rika for who she is, instead of trying to fix her.
She's trying to be more open and honest, and with that attempt we get a Rika who is less guarded and poised, and rather a Rika whose mask is off and is trying to navigate what it means to simply "exist." She just wants her family of 4 to live "happily" together, and a lot less scheming is required. She almost has the energy of "I'm going to be the fun, cool mom. :)"
Tumblr media
I bet she's awful at stacking chairs, though.
Now, many characters AND players have wondered, "Why in the WORLD would Saejoong team up with Rika?" He thinks she's nuts. We know that Rika is using him, and I'd venture that he's doing the same. He knows he's caught between a rock and a hard place, but he also knows that this woman is desperate to take his troublesome bastard sons and disappear with them. She can't exist in public, after all, or she'd risk her secret of being a cult leader getting exposed. It's a weird solution, but he was in no place to refuse her offer. Coerce Saeyoung into making false broadcasts to bolster Saejoong's public image, and then let Rika, V, and the twins run off into the sunset.
A special insight that you only get during the Normal Ending is that Saejoong thought he and Rika were similar, which is likely another reason he was willing to collude with her. And the Normal Ending is the reason that I felt inspired to write this post at all.
On day 3, Rika accuses Saeran of hating her. She's furious that she doesn't have Ray anymore, because Ray needed her and gave her a purpose. Saeran doesn't need her, and that sends her into a panic. But he chooses to be compassionate and to try to sympathize with her.
Tumblr media
On day 4, we get this exchange between MC and Rika:
Tumblr media
Rika breaks down in MC's arms. She didn't know what love was, and she didn't know how to reach it herself. Her solution was to control, to manipulate, to clutch desperately onto people who showed her even a shred of warmth... but always staying just distant enough where she could withdraw or flee if she felt threatened, or worse, sabotage the connection herself.
She didn't know what love was because she'd never experienced it. Her mother was a malicious, cruel woman. Mika sacrificed and manipulated her. Her priest assaulted her. V did his best, but he kept pushing his ideals and methods onto her instead of listening to her. She kept Saeran through control. She brainwashed and gaslit believers, smooth-talking her way into their minds and pockets. She even kept V bound to her by blinding him; we can only assume he got treatment after his trial.
MC and Saeran showed her what love is. It's about kindness for the sake of kindness, not to curry favor. It's a willingness to step out of your comfort zone to help those you care about. It's being brave when you're terrified. It's communicating in more ways than one, always listening and considering the other's thoughts, feelings, actions, and reactions.
For the first time in her life, she saw love. She saw love in Saeran, who'd lured her and V away so that his lover and brother could be free. She saw love in MC, who'd always been gentle but firm with Rika, expressing genuine intrigue and concern for her. She saw people who didn't immediately demonize her for her worst mistake: the death of Mother Choi.
Tumblr media
She's being honest with herself, too, acknowledging and understanding that her actions were wrong. And she starts bawling, because she's been repressing herself, her fears, and her needs for so long. She laments that she yearned for love like a child, but her body was too big now... and that made the void feel larger and emptier.
Tumblr media
She finally got the answers she'd been trying to find for her entire life: What is love? And is she worthy?
So when the opportunity comes for her to set Saejoong straight, she tears into him. Now, she only does this in the normal ending. In the good ending, Saeran is the one who talks to Saejoong, says his piece, and gets his peace. Clearly that's the best possible ending for Saeran, because it allows him to put his last demon to rest. Now he can focus on healing and finding happiness on his own accord.
But in the normal ending, Rika shows that she's not just a sob story for MC and Saeran to pity. She's taking their lessons and her new convictions to heart and putting them into action.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And Saejoong truly loses his cool when he hears that the investigation team is coming. He knows he's toast, and so he tries to appeal to Rika one last time: "You know that you'll be going down, too."
To which Rika says: "Yes. It's long overdue."
Rika has a long, difficult road ahead of her, but it'll be a surprisingly peaceful one. She wants to heal. She wants to live a better life. She wants to be honest and true, and that means atoning for her crimes.
But then, she's going to devote her life to love.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The RAE Normal Ending is, in a bizarre way, the best outcome for Rika that Mysme canon gives us. (Because seriously, shipping her off to Alaska to GTFO was the laziest and most unsatisfying ending for her that I can imagine.)

Father Figure Avdol fic? Maybe something that takes place after part 3? Maybe the reader reuniting with Avdol after the events of part 3! Just some cute fluff
sorry i didn't do a fic, instead i did headcanons then a snippet. hope you can enjoy anyway!
this is away from the canon events of the series! platonic (i worry it doesn't read that way but uh urm let me know if i should redo it anon!) avdol x gender neutral reader, no tws and just fluff
avdol says kiddo sorry not sorry i just love that word it's funny
Tumblr media
☆ avdol has never stopped worrying about you. whether you went on this adventure with him or you've been looking after his shop during his absence, he's never been at peace knowing you may not be okay ☆ he'll try to call you at least once a week and will be so stressed if the calls never go through ☆ it always feels like there's a pit in his stomach. he's logical but when it comes to someone he cares about so much he's entirely emotional on the inside but can't let any of that out because it can jeopardize his and other's safety ☆ definitely writes you a letter after every battle because - as sad as it is - he's terrified that's all that will be left of him by the end of the trip ☆ once it's all over he's heading hastily to where ever you've been left alone at (probably his shop/apartment complex)
☆ when you're actually together after the time apart he'll do anything you want. order the food you'd like to eat for dinner, play any game or watch any show. avdol wants to make up for his absence ☆ won't go to bed until you're asleep because he's still a little bit paranoid about dio despite seeing him vanish ☆ will do a lot of little things for you to try and cheer you up. like he'll cut you apple bunnies if you like cute food, stuff like that ☆ won't force you to feel better immediately or anything. offers you resources if you'd like them, but doesn't force those on you either. lets you know he's here now and the situation is over, but won't act like it didn't happen and didn't impact you too ☆ sometimes he feels like he failed as a father figure because of this. regardless of if you're legally his child or if you just view him as a father figure. either way this haunts him and he needs a big hug
☆☆ snippet ☆☆
avdol is relieved to finally be heading home, but he's also even more stressed then when he was fighting dio. his heart is pounding in his ears, hard enough to give him a headache. worried out of his mind because the climax of it all is weighing heavy on him. you've been alone for such a long time, terrified of where he's been - if he's safe, and he's been fretting even more. avdol knows he didn't leave you without resources and a support system, but he also knows he's the person who's offered you the most kindest and support when you needed it most.
he never imagined being a parent in any capacity. but now with jagged breathing from walking so quickly out of the cab, dread easing ever-so-slightly from seeing his shop still standing, he feels like how holly did when she heard jotaro was locking himself in jail.
his steady knocks are responded with your voice yelling, clearly caught off guard from a visitor during closing time. avdol can't help but smile, reassured to know you're at least where he had to leave you.
the door opens with a slow drag, dragging the wood against the ground along with his heart against his ribs. when you see him standing there you feel tears in your eyes, arms immediately wrapping around him in the most sudden hug you've probably ever given him.
"you're safe!" you're fully sobbing into his neck, so relieved to know the person who's taken care of you so well made it back to all he left. you've been diligent to keep his shop functional despite the fear in your heart and the dread you could never vanquish. "you came back," between your cries you whisper it, in disbelief yourself. you weren't able to contact him for so long. the only heads up you had was lengthy yet vague letter saying he'll be gone for a while and will hopefully come back. "i was so scared you wouldn't come back."
avdol rubs your head as reassurance he's really back. his gut wrenches in pain because of how he's hurt you, but settles because he finally knows you haven't been targeted.
"i'm sorry, but i'm here now." he feels his own eyes grow heavy with budding tears. "i'll explain everything once we've caught up some, kiddo."

Yin-Yang for the essays, maybe? There's a lot of untapped potential in their character.
Yin and Yang are both very sad bois, and they deal with negative emotions very differently. We all know that Yang reacts to things with aggression and anger, and anger often hides a root emotion such as sadness or fear. Clearly, Yang is dealing with a lot, and I will get into just how much later on when I spin you a tale about their childhoods.
Yin, on the other hand, appears to be not as heavily affected by everything. He seems like he has better coping strategies. He does not. If you pay close attention to what he says and does in the show, and especially what he doesn't say and do, you'll notice that he deals with tough situations by appeasement and shutting down. A great example of him shutting down is in "Spring on the Breakfast," where he quite literally deals with his stress by retreating into his mind for nearly the entire episode. Yang is aggressive, Yin is avoidant. These reactions, to the degree that they are depicted, really resonate with me, and I theorize that Yin and Yang grew up in an abusive household.
I've fleshed out a whole backstory for these two, but I'll try to stick to the main points during this analysis. This section is basically just fanfiction, though. Despite being two people, Yin and Yang have only one legal name. I think that their parents were expecting and only wanted one son, and they were not very happy to find out that they had two. I imagine that their childhood was a struggle for both the boys and their parents. You have two very different children sharing one body. It sounds stressful. Their parents did not deal with it very well. They resented Yin and Yang for being born conjoined. They gave them one name and treated them as one person, not as two separate people with separate needs. Yin developed avoidance and appeasement strategies to try to mitigate their parents' anger, and Yang developed aggressive tendencies as a defense mechanism against emotional abuse and as a method of advocating for his, and possibly Yin's, needs. They also were not able to fully develop emotionally and mentally prior to II as a result of this environment.
Much like I am, Yin and Yang are in a state of arrested development and are trying to work through it. They saw Candle as a mother figure and attached themselves to her as a source of support and stability while they worked through their trauma, and the sudden loss of that stability flung them back into that state of flailing confusion. This comes to a head in "Blue Buried," but they are more mentally and emotionally able to deal with their problems now, and they've gotten themselves back on the track to recovery. I have a feeling that they'll be doing a good deal of self-reparenting in the future.

Suddenly a Proud God Parent
So I just went to Rito Village. Not only did it make me attempt to figure out how much time has based since all the children grew up a bit- but I IMMEDIATELY ADOPTED Tulin.
[Spoiler free version:]
He’s a good lad and I will FIGHT for this child. I’m worried I end up adopting half the children in this game because the writing is really grabbing me in.
[Spoilers for Rito Village main quest below]
As soon as I saw him I thought, “Oh my god you’ve gotten so big! He’s grown so much-“ then I immediately realized that 2 seconds into seeing him I was already devolving into those relatives that say “I remember when you were a baby”. So I collected myself from suddenly becoming this child’s low key god parent or whatever- but then I advanced the dialogue (yes all that happened without me starting the conversation) and Tulin hit me with the “ Link?! Is that you?!” As he was genuinely happy to see him….. I caved. I crumbled. I collapse to the ground sobbing “he remembers me?!”. He’s my god child now. He’s accepted me and I CAN NOT let him down or else I’ll be a complete failure.
That was just meeting him again.
These parental tendencies got worse as I progressed the side quest because I was not expecting that the child would be traveling with me all the way. I was concerned for his safety when he went off on his own and I had to find him. I was proud of him when I learned he’s got SKILLS and learned a gust technique for himself. I was even more proud as he helped me in combat. And I was crying proud when he became a sage. “You’ve earned it kid.”
It was emotionally exhausting having that much positive energy flow out of me NON STOP for that long. Like y’all I need a break of emotional neutrality inbetween emotional spikes or else I melt or something.
But yeah. Sorry not sorry Teba, your child is also my god child. No I don’t have legal proof- my proof is that I’ll lose my other arm for him.
I’m worried now- for the other kids that might have grown since botw… am I’m going to adopt literally everyone? We’ll see- 0u 0
