Foxtrot Alpha Alpha - Chapter 10

Pairing: Hangman x Female OC
Word Count: 1973
Warnings: Discussion of bad home life, pregnancy complication
Summary: Hangman learned his lesson a long time ago to never show his true feelings when someone's words or actions hurt him. To do so showed weakness that could be exploited, and Seresin men couldn't show weakness. Of course, there was an exception to every rule, and Jake's always came in the form of women, three in particular: his mom, Juliette Kazansky, and the girl whose name he could no longer bring himself to speak. She was the girl that got away; she was his biggest 'what if' and his biggest regret; she would forever be the ghost that haunted his dreams. Jake believed that's where she'd stay, for he would surely never see her again after what he did.
Or so he thought.
Notes: This is the sequel to India Lima Yankee; I'm using the same callsign for the Female OC as in Ghost Story because I just really like it, but they are different characters; chapters in italics are flashbacks.

Where had they gone so wrong? Jake had only one idea, but if that was the case, then he had no hope of ever formulating an apology that could suffice to make up for it. Besides, Annalise seemed perfectly content to act like he didn't exist, now or in the past and future. The behavior threatened to shatter him, but he was Jake Seresin, and Seresin men didn't break. So he sucked it up, pretended to be absolutely fine, and kept his aviators on so no one could see the pain in his eyes.
He did stay uncharacteristically quiet, so much so that he received a text from Juliette stating: You're quiet. You okay?
He sent a quick one back that said he was, but judging by her expression reading it, she didn't wholly believe him. Juliette relented for now, but Hangman kept an eye on her. Even underneath her makeup, she appeared pale. Rooster must've noticed, too, because he continually looked over at her even when she wasn't speaking. It prompted him to text Juliette almost the same question: You okay?
I'm really hot, and I have a stupid migraine. That's all.
Been getting those a lot?
Yes... I'm heading to the doctor's tomorrow. Be on standby in case it ends up being bad, and I need someone to help me calm him down.
Jake smothered a snort by clearing his throat. Not sure I have a calming effect on Bradshaw. Ghost or Phoenix might be a better option there, but I can be there to support you if you need it.

Hangman shoved his phone back into his pocket. Rooster mumbled a question to Juliette, who whispered the answer in his ear and placed a comforting hand on his thigh. He covered it with his own, lacing their fingers together. Jake's gaze involuntarily shifted to Ghost, who sat next to Juliette. He ached to reach for her hand, to whisk her away and talk everything out until they were back on more than just speaking terms. He wanted to go back to the way they were before with the inside jokes, the time spent together, and their own personal, secret way of saying "I love you."
Ghost excused herself to go to the bathroom, and it took all of Hangman's willpower not to lie and say he needed it to, just to go confront her again, ask what he could do to make her forgive him, but he didn't. However, his buzzing phone and the surprising name flashing on the screen forced him to get up and head inside for privacy. Reluctantly, Hangman answered the call with a gruff "Hey."
Matt Seresin's tired voice replied, "Hey, can you talk?"
"I wouldn't have answered if I couldn't, but do I want to? No."
"I know you don't, but Dad told me he called you last week."
"Yeah. What about it?"
"What did he tell you?"
"Uh, nothing, really. He was asking how I was doing and if I was coming home to visit any time soon, which was really weird, come to think of it."
Matt sighed. "He's not doing well, Jake. Dad had a massive heart attack two weeks ago, and he's in kidney failure. Doctors are trying to save him, but in the event they can't... I'm just saying now might be the time to come see him and maybe say your goodbyes."
"Dad hasn't called me since I joined the Navy. He never even came to my graduation. Dad wants nothing to do with me, and I want nothing to do with him. Besides, he could've asked me to visit when he called me last week, and he didn't, so no. I'm not coming down. If that's all you had to say-"
"There's more," Matt interrupted. "I caught Nick embezzling funds from the company. I alerted the cops, and he's on the lam. I know you two were never close, but-"
"I was never close with either of you," Jake snapped more harshly than he intended. Reining in his temper, he said more calmly, "But if I see him, trust me, I'll call the cops on him and will let you know."
"Thank you, but be wary, Jake. Nick's armed, and he was always the most volatile. He has Dad's temper. I'm worried about what he might be capable of, and soon, you might be the only family I have left."
"Don't tell me you want to try and make amends now?"
"It's late in the game, but you and I have talked more since you left than you have to Nick and Dad combined. I'd like to think there's some hope for us, man. Besides, I'd like you to meet your niece one day. Sophie asks about you whenever she sees pictures of us from when we were kids, and she always loves the gifts you send her for holidays and her birthday. Don't make her pay for the sins of her father."
Jake sighed, leaning against the bar. He hated how his brother made a point. "I'll look at my schedule, see what I can swing, but only to visit her. I'm not seeing Dad. Maybe you can come here too. Disney isn't far from here; I think Sophie would like that."
"We've already been looking. I didn't think it wise to tell you until I was sure you wouldn't mind us coming to visit. Hey, uh, on a different note, I saw Coyote's post that Annalise was in town. You two talking again?"

Jake scoffed. "Pretty sure she'd rather talk to a wall than to me."
"I'm going to take that as a no. I'm sorry, man. I know how much she meant to you."
"Yeah, well, I caused the accident, so I don't blame her. Did you know she dated Kyle?"
"Yeah. It was only a few dates, but she dumped him, thank God. From what I've heard, he hasn't taken it too well. I swear that guy has a screw loose and will become unhinged sooner or later. Tell her to be careful and watch out. If he and Nick pair up-"
Jake pinched the bridge of his nose. "Ghost might be in danger."
"Why am I in danger?" Annalise queried, causing Jake to whirl around. He'd completely forgotten she'd gone to the bathroom.
"Is that her?" his brother asked, bringing Jake back to the conversation, but his gaze never left Ghost's.
"Yeah. I gotta go. Talk to you later, Matt." Hangman hung up his phone and fiddled with it.
"So? Why am I in danger?" Ghost repeated, maneuvering behind the counter and grabbing a glass of water.
Hangman sighed, unsure of how she'd react to the news. "Long story short, Matt's worried Kyle will become unhinged and that you'll be in danger if that's the case, especially if he pairs up with Nick, who's currently on the lam. He wanted me to tell you to be careful and watch out."
Puzzlement etched itself onto her face. "Why is Nick on the lam?"
"Matt reported him to the cops because he caught him embezzling funds from the company."
"Oh, shit," Ghost breathed. "When did that happen?"
"Not sure, just that it's recent." An awkward silence fell over them. Jake pondered what he should do or say, knowing the things he desired to do or say would do nothing to help the situation, that they'd most likely earn him a slap from Ghost more than anything.
"I'm sorry," she said genuinely sympathetically, which took him aback. He hadn't heard her use such a tone with him since before they'd parted ways. He never thought he'd hear it again.
He offered her a small smile. "Thanks. Certainly not the call I was expecting from him. Between Nick and Dad-"
"What's going on with your dad?"
"Nothing. Not going to burden you with that whole thing."
"Burdens aren't meant to be carried alone."

For some unfathomable reason, her words ignited an anger in him. How dare she pretend to care for him when she'd treated him like shit since she'd arrived? Stoically, he replied, "You're right; it's meant to be shared with someone who cares for me, but that's not you. Not anymore. You've made that explicitly clear since you arrived here."
Before she could respond, he turned on his heel and walked out. Jake realized by the time he set foot onto the sand that he'd taken his anger over his family situation out on her, which had been the last thing he should've done. If he had even the slimmest of chances of reconciling with Ghost, he'd probably lost it in that very moment. However, he didn't have long to mull over that because Juliette's panicked voice saying "Bradley" caught his attention. His eyes barely fell on her before she slumped forward. Rooster caught his fiancée before her face smashed into the table.
"Jules?!" Rooster exclaimed, cupping her face and turning it toward his. "Jules!"
Hangman froze at the sight, a flood of memories crashing over him. Ghost rushed past him, barking orders. "Get her on the ground and lay her on her back. Coyote, grab an umbrella and get her shaded. Phoenix, prop her legs up twelve inches. Rooster, keep her head and neck still. Mav, can you check her pulse?"
Maverick did as ordered, staying silent momentarily before confirming it was there and steady if not a little fast. Ghost nodded, checking the time on her phone. "If she doesn't wake up in a minute, we need to call emergency services."
"Already have the number dialed. Let me know when to hit call," Penny said, kneeling beside Mav. Hangman sank to his knees next to Ghost, casually placing his fingers on Juliette's wrist to check the pulse himself. As Maverick said, it beat steadily and swiftly. Meanwhile, the rest of the Daggers crowded around, blocking the view from passersby and staring worriedly at the friend.
Near the forty-second mark, Juliette's eyes fluttered open, and a small groan escaped her lips. Ghost placed a gentle but firm hand on her friend's shoulder and said, "Hey, you're okay. You passed out. I need you to stay still for a bit, okay? Can you tell me your name?"
Juliette stated her name weakly, then added, "Surname is Kazansky, but it'll... it'll be Bradshaw soon."
Rooster chuckled and said shakily, "Yes. Yes, it will be."
Ghost smiled. "And we can't wait to see you two get married. What's your fiancé's name?"
"Bradley," Jules answered. "Callsign Rooster."
"Very good. And you know where you're at?"
"On the ground."
"Well, you're not wrong. I'll let that answer slide. Last question: when's your birthday?"
"February 2."
"All right, you seem pretty coherent. That's a good sign," Ghost said, sighing in relief. "Jules, you need to stay lying down for a bit, okay? We don't want to move you too soon, but once we can, I think the best course of action is to get you to a hospital."
"Bob, can you bring my Bronco over here?" Rooster requested, tossing his keys to the WSO, who deftly caught them. "Mav and Ghost, can you come with me?"
"Of course," Maverick and Ghost said immediately. The former's face was a deathly shade of white as he held Juliette's hand. 
Ghost's head turned to Hangman. "Jake, you want to come too?"
Her question took him aback, but he managed to reply, "No, no, I'll, uh, I'll get Raptor and Lightning back to the house and watch over them until y'all get back."

"Here," Rooster said, handing the house key over. Hangman took it and swallowed the rising fear in his chest. Of course he wanted to go to the hospital with Juliette, but at the idea, he quickly reminded himself: I'll be the death of her if I do.

Christmas Eve came sooner than you had thought and it was about as cheerful as you had imagined it. Thor greeted you with mug of steaming hot chocolate first thing in the morning, wearing the ugly Christmas sweater you had bought him last year and Tony was already in the spacious living room with Pepper to finish up the preparations for his annual Christmas party.
You spent the entire day baking biscuits and didn’t see Loki all day but for some peculiar reason you hoped that he too would attend the biggest Christmas party in New York City. Tony had invited everyone—no, that was not entirely true, the party was, in fact, for everyone—especially those who had no one else to spend Christmas Eve with or wanted to do so with none other than the famous Avengers.
With a sigh, you finished applying your red lipstick and admired yourself in the mirror. The green dress shimmering like a thousand tiny crystals had cost you way more than what you would normally spend on clothes but the occasion was worth it. You had only realised after that green was Loki’s colour too. Another sigh escaped your lips.
The God of Mischief and you had not really spoken since the roof-incident. Part of you wondered whether he was about as confused as you about what had happened between you, especially after Thor had interpreted your entanglement in a romantic manner, the other insisted you didn’t think too much of it. Loki was just… Loki. Mysterious, mischievous and handsome. Wait… handsome?
By the time you arrived at the party, more than two dozen guests had already arrived. Dressed in Christmas pullovers, suits or festive dresses much like you, they held small glasses full of mulled wine, eggnog or champagne, munching on biscuits and other Christmas treats and chatting with each other and the superheroes who had already joined the party guests, impressing them with their stories and their skills.
Your heart skipped a beat when you spotted Loki standing only a few feet away from you. Heavens, he should not be allowed to wear suits. Instead of the light version of his Asgardian signature outfit you usually saw him in, the God of Mischief was dressed in an all-black suit complimenting his raven hair and tall figure. It was perfect to blend in and not attract too much attention, for many citizens still avoided him like the plague after everything that had happened only a few years back. Your eyes met, sending waves of electricity though you, and he nodded.
You furrowed your brows when somebody spoke your name. “Is that you?” Much to your dismay, you recognised the voice immediately. It belonged to Derek, your ex-boyfriend. Derek who collected action figures of the Avengers and who owned a Captain America costume worth five-hundred dollars. Derek, who had cheated on you with other women and, upon your break-up, had blamed you for the sexual imbalance in your relationship. Needless to say, you had not exactly ended it on good terms. The last thing you wanted to do was chat to him of all people on Christmas Eve. Much rather, you’d finally spend some time with Loki again. He was fun to be around once he had warmed up to someone…
“I tried to text you like… a hundred times.”
“I saw. I blocked your number after fifty.” You retorted.
“Don’t be like that. I was going to make up, you know.”
“You literally told me it’s my fault that you went ahead and fucked other women behind my back, Derek!”
“Because you didn’t give me what I need in the bedroom, baby. We should have talked about that more. It wouldn’t happen again. Let’s talk about this. Can I get you a drink?”
“No, thank you.”
“Okay… Care to dance with me then?”
“Absolutely not.” You hissed.
“Come on. You are not here with someone, are you?”
You blinked. Fuck. Think, think, think. “Yes, actually.” You lied quickly. Your eyes fell on Loki who met your gaze again in a strange and almost affectionate way—something had definitely changed between you since he had helped you decorate the Avengers facility and you remembered, with butterflies in your belly, how he had caught you in his arms when you had fallen off the roof like a bird with broken wings. The idea came to you before you could properly think it through. Derek would never dare to defy someone like Loki. He was your perfect alibi to get rid of him.
“I’m here with my boyfriend. You probably know Loki?” Before you could change your mind, you stepped forward, closed the remaining distance between you and put your arm under Loki’s. He did not fail to react. Turning away from Thor, he frowned and stared at your linked arms, then opened his mouth to question you. Much to your relief, however, the gesture did not seem to anger him.
You shot him a pleading glance. Play along, you thought. Please, take the hint.
“Are you serious right now?” Derek spat, a both disgusted and shocked expression on his face.
Much to your surprise—or maybe not—Loki wrapped his arms around your middle then, pressing you against his strong body. Your heart skipped a beat. This felt like him cradling you in his arms like a bride, only more… intense, for this time—this time, it was actually intentional.
Loki gave Derek a glare, his lips ghosting over your forehead. “Are you alright, my sweet mortal?” My sweet mortal? “I believe you have promised me a dance.”
Derek swallowed, blinking at you a few times—and then, without a word, he shook his head and disappeared in the burbling and dancing crowd. You let out a breath you didn’t realise you were holding. Good thing for you he’d always been a coward.
But while relief was flooding your veins, at the very same time, adrenaline set every single cell of your body on fire. Loki was still holding you. His lips against your skin had felt like the gentle kiss of a butterfly… You looked up, if anything not to make the situation even more awkward than it already was, given that by now, both Thor and Natasha had become rather taken aback witnesses as well.
“Thank you. I really owe you.” You muttered.
“I take it this was a former suitor of yours?”
You gave him a weak smile. “That’s a very elegant way to put it but yes, he is my ex-boyfriend. I left him when I found out he cheated on me—repeatedly. I panicked when he approached me and I knew he’d be scared of you.”
“Why thank you.” Loki replied with dismay before, much to your surprise, a smirk grew on his lips.
“No! I just meant…”
“I know what you meant. So?”
“S-so what?”
“He is still watching you. You would do well to keep up the act.” Loki said, keeping you from spinning around to check. But he was probably right either way. You had just announced in front of a bunch of strangers as well as your ex-boyfriend and two Avengers that Loki and you were dating. You were honestly surprised the Trickster did not at all seem too bothered by this very circumstance, not to mention what it meant for you. Ever since the roof-incident, you certainly didn’t mind clinging onto him like that.
“Dance with me.” He commanded softly, one of his large hands coming to rest on your waist while the other interlinked with yours. “He will lose interest if you feign easiness.”
You nodded quickly, leaning into him to not raise any suspicion and taking a deep breath when the side of your face connected with his chest. Loki rested his chin on the top of your head, weighing you gently from side to side as if the music was made of waves carrying you over an ocean. It was a classic playing right now—What are you doing New Year’s Eve by Ella Fitzgerald—sweet, calm… romantic. This evening was going in a very dangerous direction now but you couldn’t help but feel safe and protected in the God of Mischief’s arms. Who would have thought that putting up Christmas decoration together would create such a strong bond between two people… a mortal and a god on top of that?
“I got you a Christmas present, you know.” You murmured after a while.
His voice vibrated in his chest, you could feel it against your cheek. “Did you now?”
“Hmm…” He stole away your ability to speak. That was so unfair! “I was going to give it to you tomorrow morning but… would you like me to give it to you now, in private?” It would be the perfect excuse to get away from here for a bit too, even if, in better lighting, Loki would probably notice your blushed cheeks.
“Lead the way, my sweet mortal.” There it was again. Smiling up at him sheepishly, you moved a step back and took his hand, practically fleeing from the scene.
Loki remained in the doorway when you reached your room. Whether it was out of decency or respect, you couldn’t quite tell. You crossed your room with quick steps, reaching for Loki’s gift under your bed. You had wrapped it in green paper and decorated it with a golden bow. A bit of a cliché perhaps but it looked just perfect.
“Merry Christmas, Loki.” You said when you returned to him and handed it to him. He only took it hesitatingly.
“Why did you get me a gift?”
You shrugged. “I just wanted to be nice. I doubt the others will have gotten you something so I thought… just so you can unwrap something too?” You almost choked on your nervous laughter. “You know I almost decided not to give it to you after all after you almost drove me mad when I was hanging up the Christmas lights.”
Loki chuckled. “I suppose you made that consideration before I saved your life.”
“More or less...” You replied, winking at him. Hey… this isn’t so hard after all!
Your heart was pounding in your chest by the time he unwrapped it, revealing the notebook and the green and gold fountain pen you had gotten him. It even came with green ink.
“It’s not much, really, just…” You said quickly. “I keep seeing you scribbling and reading a lot and I thought…”
“Thank you.” He interrupted. Honesty swung in his smooth voice, making your heart beat faster in an instant. At this speed, you were going to need an ambulance soon.
You smiled. “I ought to thank you. Derek is a dick. You saved me twice now, I’m in your debt.”
Loki chuckled once more, looking you deeply in the eye. “Yes. I believe you are.” It was, without a doubt, a promise.

Description: James Buchanan Barnes, the owner of the most expensive-looking club in town and your new apartment. He was a dick and you hated him. What could possibly go wrong when you, the new girl in town, start bartending at his club to pursue your dreams?

Bucky couldn't recall the last time he had a genuine conversation with someone who wasn't his best mates, Sam and Steve. He enjoyed your company and as much as he hated to let his guard down, he wanted to do just that with you. You were everything that Bucky thought he would find repulsive, but he couldn’t help but be attracted towards you. And for the first time he wanted more, he didn't want a one-night stand or a fling with you, he wanted to know you. He admired your courage and bravery, but mostly he admired you. You, with all your stupid yet funny jokes and spontaneity; he liked you more than he would like to admit.
But there was this thing that you were his employee and one meal doesn't count as a date. It was just a meal. But yet, Bucky wanted it to be more. He had never been so intrigued by another person, but it was also clear that you didn't reciprocate his interest. And Bucky would have all of his 206 bones crushed out rather than giving his heart to someone only for it to be not requited. 
So, when you walked into the club the next day, pretending as if nothing had changed, Bucky knew where your relationship lay with him, and he was content with it. Okay, he wasn't content with it, but he knew he couldn't force something that wasn't there. He would choose to be in your life as your boss, acquaintance, or maybe even a friend if he's lucky enough than to not be in your life at all.

When you got settled behind the counter, your mood wasn't that great. It could be because you weren't drunk this time, or maybe because you enjoyed your meal with your boss a little too much for your liking. You wouldn't call it a date, but it sure as hell was a lot better than all the dates or meals you've had with people.
Your good mood was definitely not because of the fact that your mother called only to inform you that this family friend's son is not going to wait around long, and you should at least find a stable job if you can't find a suitable boyfriend. Then she started boasting about your sister and her amazing profession and how she and her husband save lives every day. And you might have had enough of her bullshit and lied that you indeed have a stable job and relationship. None of which is true. 
Bartending only pays the bills, and you haven't had a relationship in years and none of them were serious. You always ran away from any sort of commitment because you knew you would eventually have to introduce your partner to your family and nobody deserves to see that circus, and you told yourself that you're doing a favor to those previous partners by leaving them or as your friends like to call ghosting them. In your defense, dealing with you and your family is more horrific than any scary movie. 
Well, until now because tomorrow your sister and her family are coming to meet your partner and take you back to your parents' place for the weekend. The only problem is that you lied to them about your job and your partner. The worst part is that both of them are pretty non-existent.
"Hey, How are you feeling? " Peter asked you, noticing how you still weren't paying attention to the customer in front of you. 
“Great, not drunk, if that's what you're wondering.” 
“I'm fine," you retorted, glancing at the concerned look Peter was giving you. You quickly took the customer's order and proceeded to make the drink. 
"The last time you said you were fine, you threatened to kill a dude," Pietro interjected, enjoying the faux disbelief that landed on your face. You looked over to Wanda for help, but she just chuckled at her brother's antics.
The rest of the night at work went by as it usually did. Pietro making a sarcastic remark here and there, Wanda countering her brother with a snarky response, you were laughing your ass off watching the duo and Peter awkwardly tried to suppress his amusement. In a weird custom, these three coworkers were the only thing that felt normal. 
By the time you were done, it was mostly you left like always, with the addition of security guards that James added since Rumlow. You wanted to talk to him, especially after the wonderful not date you had, but the situation with him was not under your control anymore and it released from your grasp which scared the shit out of you. If James and you had met under different circumstances, then you would have tried to date him, but with him being your boss and the whole Rumlow thing made everything so complicated, and you didn't have time for any sort of relationship complication in your life. At least that's what you kept telling yourself.
When you were done with your shift and were about to leave, a very familiar voice called for you. You've been trying to ignore him all day and just when you thought you've succeeded, he catches up to you. 
The thing that scared you with James was that you felt safe, too safe with him. You were scared that you were going to become dependent on him for your security, and you hated that. You always despised women who weren't anything except their husband's wife, as if their whole identity was being a man's property. Furthermore, you knew the only thing to be blamed here was patriarchy and men, but you decided that you weren't going to be someone's property, you were going to be your own person. 
And you rebelled a lot to reach here, dyed your hair blue just because your mom told you not to, pursued your dream just because your dad told you to follow a secure nine to four job, left ex-partners because they told you what to and what not to wear. And some part of you knew that James wasn't like that. He wouldn't exploit you and your weaknesses. 
But what you didn't realize was that these were merely excuses that your brain mustered up because you were too scared to be dumped. A long time ago, you decided that it is better to leave than be left. And James — well, James made you feel things that you didn't want to chase. You feared commitment and abandonment too much to go after a guy. 
Your thoughts were brought to a halt when he held your wrist gently and called your name again. Reluctantly, you turned around, pretending to be surprised as if you didn't see him. 
He obviously caught on to you. "Why are you ignoring me?" 
"What?" You scoffed in feign disbelief, taking your hand away from his grasp and setting it on his shoulder. "Why would I ignore you, bud?"
Bud? What the fuck? , both of you thought at the same time.
Carefully, he eyed your hand and then you, "Okay, come on, I'll drop you home."
"No, James, it's fine, I can go on my own." 
"Yes, yes, you are an independent, strong woman but come on," He teased, but you didn't seem to pick up the glint of mischief in his eyes. 
You heard that as a taunt, a taunt your father has told you an ample number of times, that you indeed can never be anything on your own if you don't have a man beside you. While you were lost in your thoughts, James was moving towards his car, assuming that you were following him.
 "But I am," you argued. 
Your voice sounded distant to him, he turned around and walked towards you. "You are what?" 
"I am strong and independent."
"Yes, you are," he agreed as a matter of factly because it was the truth. He had never met someone so strong who would leave behind their whole life to pursue their dreams. He, being the mob boss, and filthy rich couldn't do the same, and he may not tell you this, but he admired you so much. 
Once you got the assurance you needed, you started walking towards his car. "Are you coming or not?" and he followed you. 
Of course, you knew you were strong, but your life had not been going as smoothly as you anticipated. You're stuck in writer's block, your family interference and lack of trust in you hurts like a bitch. You were somewhat crushing on your boss, and you blurted random embarrassing stuff in front of him without thinking. You know, normal crush things. 
When you reached the apartment, he insisted on dropping you to your floor. The car ride was spent in peaceful silence, but the time spent in the elevator was everything but that. No, the fifteen seconds were spent in James fidgeting beside you because he wanted to say something but didn't know how to. 
After you unlocked your door, he finally spoke up. "Um, I was just wondering whether, you know, - I had fun last night and I don't have smooth conversations with people - um, I don't know, I'd like to go out with you again," he didn't finish, but your eyebrows shot up to your forehead and he quickly backpedaled. " Not as a date, if that's what you want. It could be a meal shared between you and your boss. Not that I'm implying that you are obligated to go with me just because I'm your boss. I'm asking this as a stranger, well, not as a stranger but as a friend, I think."
"James,” you spoke softly, and he could feel the denial coming his way.” I had fun too, but you're my boss. This is highly unprofessional."
He signed in defeat and looked at you one last time. There was so much he wanted to say, he wanted to tell you that he enjoyed your company more than he should. He wanted to tell you that he liked you. He wanted to tell you that he wanted to see where this thing would lead with you, but he knew better than that. At the end of the day, you were his employee and if you were to get involved with him in any form, it would only end in your tarnished reputation. So, he nodded, not trusting himself enough to speak much after the clear rejection. "I understand."
"Y/N! “
Both of you turned towards the source of the voice and frowned. He frowned because he was confused, whereas you, oh, you weren't confused, you were furious at the person standing there and at yourself for forgetting about their arrival.
 "Hi, Carol. I thought you were coming tomorrow," you stated, faking a smile, and everyone in the area could see your distressed attempt at looking excited.
 Well, everyone except your sister because she shrieked with happiness and ran towards you to throw her arms around you. Her husband followed behind and gave you and James an awkward smile.
 "I just couldn't wait to meet my baby sister and we'll take you guys back for the weekend."
You guys, James and you thought at the same time. James looked at the side of your face for an explanation, and you kept looking forward at your sister, avoiding his gaze.
Fuck, you forgot about that. How can you forget about that? You mentally cursed yourself and didn't say anything because you didn't know what to do. 
Your sister picked your silence as her cue to talk and pointed her index finger at James, who was standing beside you now. "Is this him?"
Your sister looked at you, expecting an answer, your brother-in-law looked at you with something called, please hurry up, I just want to go back to the hotel. James looked at you with bewilderment. 
You sighed and took your boss's hand in yours, who also happens to be the most dangerous person in the town. He complied, holding on to you tightly, running his thumb on the back of your hand in a soothing manner. It felt like the most obvious thing as if your hand was made to be held by him. The thought sent a pleasant shiver down your spine, but you were too stubborn to accept it.
"Yes," you finalized. "This is James, my boyfriend."

so yeah basically that’s the summary ^^ also this is kind of an AU because the timeline I’m using does not line up with the show at all lol.
Trigger Warnings for meltdowns, death, ableism and mentions of sally’s drug addiction
I myself am autistic (at least according to my therapist) and a lot of these reactions/experiences that the reader has related to her autism are my own or close to my own. Hopefully I do this request justice and do a good job and don’t oversimplify anything.
You ran through the hotel, searching for your parents, but they were nowhere in sight. 
Breathe, you thought to yourself, don’t break down, they’re probably just out getting food or something and didn’t want you bothering them. You just have a couple hours of freedom, you can let yourself enjoy it.
You tried to enjoy the few hours you got to yourself without your parents. Without them mocking the way you talk or walk or move your hands, without them grabbing you with full knowledge of how uncomfortable it makes you. No cracks about how you had to leave college because you “can’t take care of yourself”.
The first words your dad said after you checked into the hotel were “God, it would be so much easier if we had a normal kid, wouldn’t it?”
As if you didn’t have feelings. As if you weren’t a human being who could fucking hear them.
It was 4pm. Your parents didn’t come back.
6pm. Nothing.
10. No sign of them. Neither one answering their phones. Maybe they’re finally abandoning you the way they’ve threatened to for ages.
Midnight. Still nothing.
2am and you started looking again. You couldn’t find anything. 
What happened?
You started to panic and could feel a full-on meltdown coming on.
You tried to be still and silent, but it proved impossible. You began to cry and cry uncontrollably, rocking and hitting your head, unable to stop. You felt like your life was ending. 
Two women showed up beside you. One was older and appeared to be the manager of the hotel, the other was a bit younger, with crimped blond hair and heavy makeup. You barely noticed either of them, however.
The older one touched your back and you screamed. You hated when people touched your back.
“Hey, do you want to take my hand, honey? It’ll be alright, I promise.” said the blonde woman. You obeyed her.
“Wh-Who are you? Where are my parents? Do you know?”
“Your parents... died. I’m sorry you had to find out this way. It was The Countess..” said the older woman.
You couldn’t speak, but you had about a billion questions for the two women. For example, Who the fuck is The Countess?
“You don’t need to speak. Just breathe, okay? In and out, good. Good girl. I’m Sally, by the way. This is Iris. You’re gonna be okay, I promise. I’m not gonna let anyone hurt you.”
You waved, not knowing what to do, completely overwhelmed.
“You know what, it’s late. I’m gonna take her back to my room and have her rest. We’ll deal with the rest of this shit tomorrow when she can talk and isn’t so clearly exhausted,” said Sally.
“I-I.....can..... talk. It’s...okay.” you said, each word making you more spaced out and tired.
“No. You’ve been through too much. I’m taking you up to my room and you’re gonna rest. You don’t have to speak or do anything you don’t want to do.”
You followed Sally, so scared and tired and in need of some damn sleep.
“You’re safe with me. I promise. Here’s, um, the bed. Get some sleep. I’ll be right here if you need anything. The Countess doesn’t want to hurt you either, I think she wanted to- it doesn’t matter now.”
“Who is... The C-Countess?”
“It’s a long story and you likely won’t believe me until you meet her. But it’s alright, you’re safe. I’ll protect you. Can I come over there and hold you?”
You nodded. Sally got on her bed next to you and put an arm around you. You winced as she touched your upper back.
“You don’t like when people touch you there, do you?”
You shook your head no, and she put your arms around your waist instead.
“Thank you.”
“Hey, I understand.”
Sally made you feel more comfortable speaking and you said,
“My parents didn’t understand that. They used to touch me there as much as they could, just to upset me. They laughed at me trying to keep my wet hair off my back when I took a shower. They thought it was funny.”
“What does that feel like to you?”
“I don’t know. It doesn’t, like, hurt, but it’s terrible, it makes my skin crawl just thinking about it.”
“Aw, honey...”
“It’s dumb, I’m sorry I’m so sensitive.”
“Hey, no, don’t apologize. You know, you remind me of my baby sister. I loved that girl so much when we were growin’ up. I practically raised her. So God only knows how she turned out as good as she did. Our parents were terrible, they were never there. She was the only one who stayed with me. Until she didn’t.”
“What happened to her?”
“It was all my fault, really. I put her in danger. I sold drugs in the 90s, and I started using when we were living together. She was in school, and I had to find her somewhere safer to live. So I did. She’s okay, very successful actually, and she’s still alive. I’m the one who died young. I miss her.”
“You... died? What? I’m sorry, you-”
“Yes. I’m a ghost, The Countess is a vampire, I think Iris might also be a vampire now too? I don’t know. I know you think I’m crazy now but trust me.”
Sally saw your look of disbelief, then held out her hand and said, “Watch.”
As she spoke her fingers began to disappear and reappear.
“What-”
“I’m a ghost. I can alter the way I’m seen by others, if I want to. I’m surprised other ghosts don’t do it more often really. One time I scared some kid by making all my teeth fall out. It was awesome. I didn’t wanna scare you though. I like you.”
“Thanks?”
“Sorry, I-”
“No, it’s- um, how did you die?”
“Iris fuckin’ pushed me out the window.”
“Wow.”
“Yeah.”
“What was your sister like?”
“She was the best. Sweet, talented, sensitive. But people didn’t understand her. I did, though. At least best I could. We only had each other. Our parents didn’t care, the kids at school bullied her relentlessly. I had to protect her. She sometimes had meltdowns like the one you had earlier too-”
“I’m sorry-”
“No! It’s not your fault! You were terrified. Anyone would be. It was pretty intense though, I was worried.”
“Was your sister autistic like me?”
“She was. We didn’t know for sure until after she stopped living with me, but we both kinda knew.”
“Oh.”
“Anyway, it’s almost four in the morning, you really gotta get some sleep. Come here.”
You did, and you fell asleep in Sally’s arms.
When you woke up, Sally was still there, as well as another woman, blonde and glamorous. They were arguing.
“What do I do then if you don’t want me to turn her? Kill her-”
“Please don’t hurt her, I can- she-”
Sally noticed you were awake, and saw your scared face.
“It’s okay, no one’s gonna hurt you. I’ll protect you.”
The blonde woman who you assumed was The Countess approached you.
“Do you have anywhere to go?”
You shook your head no. Sally spoke up for you, intuiting that you must be stressed.
“She can stay with me. I’ll make sure she’s safe. She won’t bother you or anything. She’s sweet and quiet and-”
“Sally, it’s okay. You want her, you keep her.” said The Countess.
“Alright. Thanks. Can you get out of my room now? You’re freaking her out.”
She left without saying a word.
“I’m sorry about that, (y/n). You’re safe here. You can stay as long as you need to. I’ll be here. This is a dangerous place but I’ll make sure you’re safe, alright?”
“Okay.”
You still felt sad. Not about staying with Sally, you liked her, but about the way The Countess talked about you. The way your parents talked about you. 
“Hey. I just want you to know that I don’t see you as some kind of pet or anything. I know that’s what you’re thinking, that’s how people treated my sister sometimes too. It was awful. No, I just want- I just want you to be okay. I want someone to spend time with. it’s awful lonely being a ghost, but I thought maybe if-”
“I understand, Sally. I like you a lot, and I want to stay here. It’s just sad the way most people see me.”
“It isn’t your fault, you know. I need you to know that.”
“I do. You make it easier to feel okay because you’re so nice to me.”
“I’m glad. You deserve to feel good all the time.”
You started to tear up a bit. No one had ever said that to you before. You were always expected to make yourself uncomfortable, speak when you didn’t want to, shut up when you wanted to talk, wear clothes that pinched, let people touch you when it made your skin crawl, and you were still made fun of because still, somehow, none of it was enough. But with Sally you didn’t have to do any of that, and yet you still felt loved by her in a way that you never have been before.
“Aw, hey, don’t cry. You’ll be okay. I’m gonna make sure of it. I can’t actually leave the hotel, but I can make sure you get everything you need. Are you a picky eater by any chance?”
“A little bit, but not as much as I used to be.”
“Alright. And you’re good on clothes?”
“I think so.”
“Good. I’ve gotta say, I’m excited. It’s been so long since I’ve felt a real connection to anyone here.”
“You really feel a connection with me?”
“Yes, honey, I do. Do you.... feel the same way?” Sally asked you. She said it as if she was worried you may say no.
“I do, Sally. I really do. I know how it feels to be lonely like you are. It’s how I’ve felt my whole life. Maybe... I...”
“Maybe you’ll learn to love it here. Once you’re comfortable I’ll introduce you to the other ghosts. They’re annoying, but we’re still a family or whatever it is they call it. They’ll like you. I promise.”
You spent the rest of the day in Sally’s room with her, barely talking, not really even needing to talk. She was the one who broke the silence by telling you
“I like this. Just being here.”
“Me too.”
“I want to kiss you. Can I?”
“Yes.”
You had never been kissed before, but you let Sally be your first. You felt so... loved by her as she kissed you and held you lightly by your waist.
You stayed in the hotel with Sally, and it quickly felt more like home than anywhere else you’ve ever lived. You became a part of the family, and you and Sally fell deeper in love. Sally protected you, knowing the dangers of the hotel, and made sure you felt okay. Your meltdowns became far less frequent as you were no longer being forced to be someone you weren’t.

2. Vabo-chan is a mascot character created by Fuji TV that shows up during volleyball game broadcasts. It’s basically a white ball with hands and feet and creepy looking eyes
3. The “itoko”/Itoko pun is back! Itoko is the Japanese word for cousin and also Kuroba’s cousin’s name

Seiin High School was built on a slope at the foot of a mountain. It took fifteen minutes to climb up the hill from the school building, and the training camp was located in a place where you had to push through the woods of the mountain behind the school. It was a one-story wooden house that was in all probability haunted, rumored to have existed before the school was founded. The mountain was also owned by the school, and at the end of the first semester, all the first-year students were sent to collect firewood for the school festival campfire. The memory of being eaten alive by mosquitoes was fresh in his mind. Even though he wasn’t stung, just walking into the woods brought back the itchiness he had felt all over his body.
From July 26 to 30, this would be the lodging house for the boys’ volleyball team’s summer training camp. Two days after training camp was over, the Fall Tournament would be coming up from August 1 to 3. It was a one-off tournament that wasn’t connected to Nationals, but it was a chance for them to check well their team was doing as well as to gauge the strength of the other schools so that they could make final adjustments for the Spring Tournament prefectural preliminaries at the end of September.
The house was a minimalist structure, with a twenty-mat (1) Japanese-style room, kitchen, canteen, and communal washrooms for men and women, and the facilities were also very simple. It of course didn’t have luxury items like air conditioners installed, just an old-fashioned electric fan in the canteen.
“I wish there’s a fan in this room too…”
After the study session in the canteen had finished, he was lying on his stomach at the edge of the Japanese-style room to cool off when Okuma stepped on his back and he let out a “Gueh” like a crushed frog. “Wait, it’s coming out, the food I ate.”
“Hey, where did Haijima go?”
“Please don’t treat us as a set. Didn’t he get caught by Aoki-senpai and is still in the canteen? Aoki-senpai doesn’t seem like he’d be satisfied he can’t do something about his modern lit.”
When they got their results back from their end-of-term tests for the first semester, the academic abilities of the new recruits had become joke material for their seniors. Kuroba was good at Japanese overall, but in most other subjects he just barely avoided failing. Haijima, on the other hand, was…
After the seniors exclaimed “Whoa…” in astonishment at his amazingly high marks in subjects that had to do with calculation and memorization, the eye-avertingly awfulness of his writing subjects made them fall down and say, “Never mind…”
“Haijima seems uncomfortable with Aoki-senpai. He looks like he hates him.”
Futons were already laid out in the Japanese-style room. It was four futons in two rows, with the pillow side facing each other. They had laid them out themselves, so it was quite messy. Hokao and Uchimura, who had already taken up positions on the middle two futons that formed a second-year island and were fully ready to sleep, lifted their heads off their pillows and said, “Oh, that—”
“Haijima got kicked by Aoki-senpai because he pissed him off, right? In April.”
“Has Aoki-senpai ever gotten angry?”
“He’s scary when he’s angry. No, it’s more harsh rather than scary.”
“Aoki-senpai gets harsh when he’s angry, and it’s Kanno who’s scary when he’s angry.”
Hokao and Uchimura looked at each other and stifled laughter. The various sounds of summer insects continually fell like a gentle drizzle, constantly beating against the awning of the porch. When the storm shutters were fully slid open, they felt a moderately comfortable breeze. However, mosquitoes also flew in, so mosquito repelling incense stood in the four corners of the room making thin plumes of smoke.
The mixture of incense smoke and the remaining scent of the yakiniku was already thickly staining the T-shirts they had changed into after practice. I might have eaten too much meat…my stomach hurts… Well, the excess calories could be easily consumed in tomorrow’s practice, and in any case, Kuroba didn’t have such a delicate body that a weight change of one kilogram or around that could affect his jumping power. By the way, Okuma was the only member of the team who was required to lose weight. He had too much muscle mass.
“It’d be boring if Haijima wasn’t here.”
“Is there something interesting?”
When he tried to get up, Okuma sat astride his back. “Heavy…I really am too full…” And that’s why you’re so irritating… Moreover, he chose the right person. It was detestable that he thought he could get away with this kind of messing around with Kuroba, but didn’t do it with Haijima.
Okuma thrust his cell phone into his face from behind. His phone was the latest model with a big screen. The moment his eyes landed on the screen, Kuroba stopped his complaints with an “Oh? …” and gulped. It was a video of a woman with a lot of exposed skin, so to speak, squirming and moaning on white sheets, with one thing or another being done to her. “Senpai, turn up the volume a little bit. I can’t hear.” He attached himself to the screen in spite of himself and strained his ears.
“Huh, you reacted normally. I thought you’d be more embarrassed since you seem so innocent.”
“I have an older cousin, so he shows me a lot of this stuff. Hey, the volume. How do you turn up the volume on this thing?’
“Idiot, the third-years will hear it. You got a voice fetish or something? Boring, I knew I should wait for Haijima’s reaction.”
“Ah…so mean.”
He was about to grab his phone away, but Okuma snatched it away from him.
“Oh, speak of the devil.”
Kanno and Haijima appeared at the door of the room while talking about something. Judging from Haijima’s gestures, it seemed that they were talking about the duo they had been playing as all day. Or rather, that was the only thing Haijima could talk about in such an assertive way.
“Hey, hey, come over here, you two.”
Okuma was beckoning them over with a scheming look on his face, and the two looked at each other dubiously before coming over.
“What is it?” Kanno said politely, even though they were in the same school year.
“The curry recipe. You two are in charge tomorrow.”
As soon as Kanno peered into the phone screen Okuma pushed into their faces, he let out a “Wah” and turned his face away. While holding the edge of the phone between his fingertips and passing it off to Haijima, he pulled his hood down over his eyes. “I’m not too good with this kind of thing.”
“Oh. I see, I see. So you’re used to seeing it with Suemori-san.”
“Haa!?”
He suddenly snapped. It was the first time they heard Kanno’s angry voice, so Kuroba and Okuma unconsciously bent themselves back. Even Hokao and Uchimura, who had known him for a long time, started on their futons.
“Aren’t you going out with Suemori-san?”
“Absolutely not, and if you ever try to bring that sort of topic up with Ibara-cha…Suemori-san…”
His voice went a tone lower, and there was even bloodlust rising up from his shoulders. The aura of Kanno, who was usually quiet, and if anything, had practically no presence, suddenly swelled, frightening Okuma, who was fifty percent wider. Kuroba took that opportunity to crawl out from under Okuma’s buttocks. Hokao and Uchimura looked at each other under their pillows, whispering to each other, “We warned him that he’d be scary when he gets pissed off…” “Right?”
“S-sorry, sorry. I won’t say it again…” Ibara-chan, Okuma mouthed, looking like he wanted to say something, but he didn’t seem to have the courage to make fun of him to his face anymore.
“As long as you understand.”
Kanno said, then easily retracted his harsh look and reverted to his usual low-key presence. He tucked his hands into the sleeves of his hoodie, walked with sliding steps to the wall where his things were, looking like a ghost floating a few centimeters off the floor.
“Haa… So which one of us has a girlfriend?”
Okuma sat crossed-legged on the porch, facing the room, and ended up tossing out a blunt question without having learned anything at all. Hokao, Uchimura, and Kuroba all looked away vaguely. If he had one, the most exciting event during the summer vacation of his first year in high school would not have been a boring thing like a team training camp.
“This is so sad. You’re young, so you should be hungrier. The captain doesn’t look like he has a girl at all, and the only one who might be popular is the vice-captain?”
Okuma played innocent and judged others with his own arbitrary impressions.
“So, how about you, Haijima?”
When he finally brought up the subject to Haijima, Kuroba secretly felt something like a sense of superiority, thinking, This guy still has no idea at all.
Volleyball was his lover. Or rather, if volleyball was one of the opposite sex, Haijima would no doubt become her obstinate stalker. If he had a girlfriend, that would definitely be a cataclysm. Haijima, who was watching the video with his fingers pressing the earpieces of his glasses and looking like he was seriously trying to decipher a curry recipe, answered bluntly, “I don’t, and I never had one.” Just when he thought, There you go,
“Well, that’s what I thought. You seem to have completely matured from kind of stuff.”
“I did have a girl I liked.”
He doubted his ears because Haijima had reluctantly answered back to Okuma.
“Se…seriously!?”
Without thinking, he got up from lying on his stomach and crawled over to Haijima. “She’s an actual human being, right!? She’s got proper arms and legs, right!? Ah, Vabo-chan (2) does has arms and legs, but they’re not human, so wake up!” “What are you talking about…Why Vabo-chan?” Haijima screwed his face up. Okuma was doubled over laughing on the porch.
“Vabo-chan! That’s hilarious, Kuroba!”
Hokao and Uchimura had collapsed onto their futons, making strange laughing noises. Even Kanno was crouching in front of his bag with his shoulders shaking furtively. “…What does it mean?” Haijima was looking more and more reluctant. “No, I didn’t say that to make you laugh, senpai. It’s a problem that seriously needs to be examined.” “What do you mean?”
“What are you are getting noisy about? I’m turning off the lights.”
It seemed that the clamor could be heard all the way in the canteen, as Oda looked in from the door with a severe look on his face.
“Good grief, save your strength or you’ll regret it to the point of vomiting tomorrow. And I mean that literally.”
From behind Oda, who lowered his voice and gave off a sense of danger, Aoki also appeared, bowing his head to avoid scraping his head against the lintel.
“You remember me saying that those who can’t sleep will do dashes on the slope, right? Okuma, you seem to be the most energetic one here.”
“Not at all. I can fall asleep in a second.”
Okuma shoved his phone under the stomach of his T-shirt and dived into his futon. Hokao and Uchimura were now pretending to be dead, and Kanno, who was at the bags until just a while ago, was quickly tucking himself into his futon before they knew it. Somehow, the beds were arranged by seniority, with the two third-years on the innermost territory, the four second-years in the middle territory, and the first-years Kuroba and Haijima in the territory near the door.
As soon as the ceiling lights were turned off and darkness fell, the room that had been full of clamor and noise suddenly became strangely quiet. Immediately after, they began to hear someone snoring. Ten to one, that deep and throaty snoring belonged to Okuma. He was jealous that he really could sleep in a second.
Even when he laid down and closed his eyes, Kuroba couldn’t go to sleep easily. It was true that his body was exhausted from the first day of training camp, but his head was strangely clear.
He opened up his futon, turned over, and then stared into the darkness. A blue light, slightly brighter than the indoor lights, shined in from the porch, and the jagged shadows of the trees pierced into the night sky. Mosquitoes buzzed in his ears, and he waved them away in irritation.
…Mmm. Can’t sleep. I feel too excited for some reason.
He turned over again, and this time he was lying on his stomach and hugging his pillow. “Hey,” he whispered, leaning forward. “You up?”
He saw the head moving slightly on the pillow that was lined up face-to-face with his.
“Go to sleep.”
A curt voice responded to him in the darkness.
“I can’t, though.”
“Then go run outside.”
“Hey, when did you like that girl? It wasn’t when we were at Monshiro Middle, was it?”
“I told you to go to sleep. You think this is a school trip or something?”
“It’s definitely not Itoko, right?” (3)
There was the rustling of clothing, and the hair that had been hanging down on the pillow rose up. Haijima also lied on his stomach and stretched his neck towards him over his pillow. His brow was wrinkled and his eyes were narrowed so much that he looked positively villainous.
“Why are you talking about ‘itoko’?”
“Ah, did you just call her by her first name!?”
He was so shocked that his voice became louder. Haijima’s expression became even more grim, and he abruptly swept his hand off to the side of his pillow. When he was wondering what was going on, he grabbed his glasses that were caught on his fingers in a careless but familiar manner, put them on, and then thrusted his face at him again.
“Are you still seeing that cousin of yours?”
“Seeing…wh-what are you talking about, we’re not seeing each other at all! We go to different schools, I don’t really have any feelings for her, and she’s like a sister-in-law.”
As he was listing that off in a shrill and excited voice, …Hmm? Something doesn’t seem to be meshing… When he really thought about it, he didn’t remember Haijima and Itoko having any interaction with each other, and since it was Haijima, he might not even recognize Itoko’s name.
“…By cousin, do you mean Yori-chan?”
Haijima frowned and tilted his head as though to say, What are you talking about?
Yorimichi, his cousin who was three years older than him (but third-rate) had left town in spring to go to university. Kuroba also had the feeling that he was let go because his relatives found him unmanageable.
“I have nothing to do with Yori-chan anymore. We haven’t even been in touch.”
“If that’s the case, then you wouldn’t be getting so worked up.”
“I’m not getting worked up about this…”
The light from the window that was shining in from the balcony was suddenly blocked. He shut his mouth with a start and jerked his neck around, and saw a long and skinny shadow crouched beside his futon, as though one of the creepy trees he had seen outside had snuck in.
“Aoki-senpa…i…”
Two long arms reached out and grabbed the two’s heads firmly. The two drew in their necks with an “Ugu” as their heads were lifted up like in a crane game. “Idiots…” they heard one of the second-years mutter with a mixture of exasperation and sympathy.  
“Since you two seem so eager to go running, I’ll grant your wish. Twenty hillside dashes.”

“Good morning!” Jan greeted Nicky outside the café with a smile on her face.
“Hey! You woke up earlier today; I didn’t catch you on your way out the dorms.” The blonde noticed.
She was wearing a fuzzy cardigan sweater she had seen on Jaida before, light blue jeans, and white sneakers. Her hair was still wet which made Jan think she might have spent the night with her girlfriend before meeting her.
“Yeah, I had to return some books to the library so I left when Rosé went to class.”
They walked in and were welcomed by the familiar warmness of the interior of the coffee shop. Almost a month had passed but Jan was always comforted by the charm of the place. It was a crowded morning but they were able to squish at one little table near the entrance. They had just sat down when a fuming Jackie crossed the door, at first she didn’t see them but as soon as Jan waved at her she shuffled toward their direction and plopped herself in the empty chair.
She was wearing brown flare pants along with a white shirt and a yellow batwing cardigan with a floral pattern. Her brown hair had been violently ruffled by a gust of wind, the loose locks fell all over her face completing a look that matched her current mood.
“What are you doing here?” Nicky asked.
Jan was wondering the same; all of Jackie’s classes took place in the morning, it was early for her to be out.
She grunted a few words while holding a scrunchie between her teeth as she attempted to untangle her hair.
“What?” The girls asked at the same time.
Jackie tied her hair into a ponytail and sighed. “I got kicked out of class.”
Jan looked at her with disbelief. “What?” She repeated.
“Remember that professor that hates me for making –according to him- «snarky comments»? Well, he finally found a reason to express his dislike for me and asked me to leave.” She crossed her arms on her chest. “I wasn’t going to stay quiet when –in addition, to invisibilize women in art- he also tried to erase the queerness of the artists. No, not on my watch.”
“What a pig.” Nicky shook her head. “I can’t believe he had the nerve to kick you out because you called him out.”
“Oh, trust me, this isn’t the end of it. I’m filing a complaint and leaving that class. I’m done.”
“I’m sorry, Jackie. I know you liked the subject, too bad the professor is a jerk.” Jan tapped her shoulder softly.
The brunette got stiff by the sudden touch. She cleared her throat before speaking again. “Anyway… it sucks because I need the credit and it’s the only class that fits into my schedule.”
“Maybe there’s a way to fix it, talk with the administration or something.” Jan did what she did best, being undeniably positive.
“Yeah… maybe. But enough of that, I need a cup of coffee.”
As if she had read Jackie’s mind, a waitress approached and it wasn’t any other than…
“Hello, girls!”
“Crystal? You work here?” Jan asked.
The girl nodded. “I started yesterday.” She smiled brightly.
She had a blue apron with the café’s name on it over her clothes and Jan swore her hair –covered in colorful hair clips- was different than last time she saw her not even two days ago.
“Congratulations! That’s great!”
“Thank you. I had to drop one of my classes but I needed the job.”
Jackie grunted. “Please let’s not talk about dropping classes.” She began massaging her temples.
“Right! I’m here to take your order.” She pulled out a tiny notebook covered in glitter from her pocket and a unicorn gel pen. “I’m ready.”
“I think you have to say «what can I get you?»” Nicky commented.
“Oh, you’re right… Let me try again. What can I get you?” She repeated in an extremely polite voice.
“I’ll have a hot chocolate please.” Jan pointed at the menu.
“And I’d like a hazelnut latte.” Jackie followed.
“For me, a caramel macchiato.” The blonde finished the order.
“Perfect… so hot chocolate, hazelnut latte, and caramel macchiato.” Crystal checked her notes. “Right away.”
“Thank you.” They said and with that, the ginger left and then turned around.
Jan watched her go.
“I should get a job too.” She pouted. “I don’t want to ask for extra money from my parents, they are helping with the other half the scholarship and they are paying for my brother’s tuition too.”
“I work at the mall near here and there’s always something to do there. You could come with me later and ask around.” Nicky mentioned.
“I didn’t know that, what do you do?”
“I’m on the cosmetics section. I do people’s makeup during the weekends and convince them to buy products.”
“Of course you do…”
“What would you like to do?” Jackie inquired in the meantime she rearranged the sweeteners of the table.
“I don’t know.” She shrugged. “I’ve had part-time jobs before. I used to work at an ice cream parlor. That was fun not to mention I had free ice cream. Then I worked at the post office, that wasn’t as much fun, it involved a lot of boxes… and during my senior year, I was the secretary of a dental office that… well, definitely wasn’t fun but I got to meet the same customers that were regulars on the ice cream parlor.”
Jackie and Nicky burst into laughter.
“You’ll do well…” The blonde assured.
“We can write your resume later and print it in the copy room.” Jackie suggested.
“That’s a great idea. Yeah, let’s do it.”
At that moment, Crystal returned with their drinks.
“Well, let’s see… I’ll put these over here, here and… here.” She placed the cups carefully and sighed with relief when everything stayed in place. “Great… Let me know if you need me.” She hummed.
“Thank you, Crystal!” Jan was going to leave a good tip for her friend.
When she turned around, they all exchanged misplaced cups in the blink of an eye.
“She’ll get better… hopefully.” Jackie added some sugar and took a sip of her coffee.
Jan drank some of her chocolate; the whipped cream created a mustache above her cupid’s bow and got the brunette looking fondly at her before taking a napkin and cleaning the corner of her mouth. Nicky raised an eyebrow but before she could say something, someone else showed up.
It was a girl that most definitely looked like a supermodel with her matching glen check pattern outfit consisting of a cropped jacket and a mini skirt with accents of yellow fabric and a belt with chains hanging from it along with a pair of black thigh-high boots. Her blonde hair framed her face and was tied on the back on a half up half down hairstyle.
“Hey, Nicky, did you finish the assignment for today’s class? And if you did, did you have any difficulty submitting it?” She looked upset, stressed.
“Uh… no. Maybe it’s because that paper is due tomorrow and the submission time starts… tomorrow?”
“Oh, thank God.” She sat on the only left empty chair with no need of an invitation and sighed letting all the air out of her lungs.
Their little table couldn’t accommodate more people so they squished even more.
Nicky turned to Jackie and Jan. “This is Gigi, she’s a classmate of mine and she actually lives in the same dorms as us. Gigi, do you remember my friend Jackie? And this is Jan, resident of the C dorm.”
The other blonde girl waved. “Hi, sorry… that was rude. I was freaking out due to that assignment.” She took a deep breath. “Hi, Jackie… I do remember you and Jan, we’re neighbors.”
“That’s great!” Jan smiled at her. “So you’re a fashion major too?”
She nodded. “I’m a sophomore as well but I’m a year younger than everyone else because of technicalities and my mom sending me to kindergarten one year earlier.”
“We’re the same age then. That’s cool.”
Gigi smiled, she was beautiful.
“How are you adapting to-” She was going to ask Jan something when she lowered her head in an attempt to hide behind Jackie. “Oh shit.”
“Gigi, what is it?” Nicky whispered.
“She’s here.” Gigi tried to descend even more.
“Uhm… who’s here?” Jackie looked around.
“She! She’s here right now… Oh God…” The girl seemed nervous and her cheeks were tinted in soft pink. “So, uh… there’s this girl who lives in our dorm I guess and I’ve bumped into her a couple of times before but… I don’t know, she’s like…” She blushed harder.
“Gigi Goode... The Gigi Goode is possibly… intimidated by someone?” Nicky gasped.
“Shhh… shut up… no… yeah… maybe. I don’t know. I’m gay and single, leave me alone.”
“Wait but how does she look like?” Jan also tried to find her among the crowd. They all were whispering.
“Oh my God… she’s coming… she’s walking in this direction, why is she walking in this direction? Never mind she has an apron.”
But it was Crystal who appeared next to Jan. “Hey guys, everything’s okay over here? Do you need something else?” She inquired, completely clueless.
The three remaining girls looked at Crystal, then at Gigi, and then at Crystal again as if it was a ping pong game.
“Oh, hey! I hadn’t seen you there, would you like me to bring something for you?” She asked Gigi while pulling out her Crystalcore things.
The blonde girl nodded and recovered the posture a little. “Uh… matcha… that’s the green thing… yeah… latte. Green tea?”
“Matcha tea latte?”
She nodded mechanically again.
“Alright, anything else?” The other girls shook their heads. “I’ll be right back.”
“Thank you.” Gigi’s voice sounded high-pitched.
Once Crystal left, all eyes were on the blonde once again.
“Oh my… I fucked up, didn’t I?”
Nicky’s jaw had dropped to the floor. “Wait, hold on a minute… you like her?”
“Shhh… God, Nicky, she could hear you or something.” Gigi pressed her hand on her chest, feeling her heart beating fast. “I didn’t know she worked here.”
Jan was trying to contain a smile, her lips turned into a thin line, meanwhile, Jackie stirred her lukewarm coffee.
“Uh… You know that’s my roommate, right?” Nicky smirked.
At that moment, Gigi almost fainted. Her face went from reddish to pale in a second and her eyes were full of terror as if she had seen a ghost.
“Excuse me, she’s your what?!”
“My roommate? Crystal? The girl with orange hair? I’ve told you about her. The one that put stickers on the notes she leaves me? She forgot her key three times in the span of a day? The one that –allegedly- accidentally shot a confetti cannon in our room and since then it feels like the place coughs confetti here and there? Rings your bell?”
That had been a good day, Jan recalled.
“Wait- That’s your Crystal? Your Crystal is my Crystal?” She covered her mouth after saying those words.
Jackie and Jan exchanged an amused look.
“Your Crystal?” Nicky tilted her head.
“I mean… that’s not what I mean…” She cleared her throat. “please don’t tell her I have a crush on her this is already too embarrassing for me… I could die like a Sim… of embarrassment, it’s a real thing, you know?”
“Relax, I won’t say a word and I’m sure the girls won’t either, right?” Jan and Jackie nodded.
Gigi seemed relieved. “Thank you… I can’t believe she’s your roommate.” She buried her face in her hands.
“I can’t believe you feel intimidated by her, she has a One Direction poster in our room.”
“There are so many things clicking in my head right now please leave your message after the tone. Beep.”
Jackie moved her hand in front of her eyes without getting a response. “I think you broke her, Nicky.”
“She’ll be fine. Plus, Crystal is bringing her tea right now.”
“Fuck…” She said as if was a reset command.
“Here you have.” The ginger placed the smoky cup in front of her. “I hope you enjoy it.” She smiled and winked before leaving.
Gigi gulped.
“Uh, Gigi, I’m not an expert but judging by the color of the beverage, that’s not what you ordered.” Jackie pointed out.
But the blonde wasn’t even looking at her. “I don’t care; this is the most delicious drink existing in the entire universe right now.”
“What’s that though?” Nicky tried to touch the cup but Gigi slapped her hand.
“No touching.” She glared at her classmate.
“Yeah, I feel like we’re going to be good friends.” Jan thought about it aloud.
“Alright, all set.”
Jackie let a big sigh out of her chest when she left the administration office; Jan had been waiting for her outside. They had gone there straight after leaving the café when Nicky and Gigi left for their class. On their way to the building, she had tried to cheer Jackie up by telling the entire confetti cannon anecdote in full detail but even afterward laughing at loud the brunette still seemed afflicted.
“I’ve submitted my complaint and the head administrator told me that the board will look into it. Until then, they said that most classes are already full so they’ll have to look for a different solution and they’ll contact me via e-mail or I’ll have to drop by next week.”
“Well, that’s good, isn’t it? They’ll tell you what the next step is. It can only get better from here.”
“I hope so.” She shrugged. She didn’t sound fully convinced, though.
Jan checked the time on her phone. “Hey, we still have some time before your shift starts, we can hang out or something…”
Jackie bit her inner cheek. “I don’t know…”
Jan touched her shoulder gently. “Jackie, I hate you seen you like this. There has to be something that makes you feel at least one percent better.”
She looked at her with her big puppy eyes and Jackie couldn’t say no to her.
“Okay… there’s something that always makes me feel better.” She gave in.
“I’m listening.”
Jackie’s eyes sparked.
“No way…” Jan looked around. “This is awesome!”
They had gone upstairs –climbing several stairs-, to a place that wasn’t on the maps of the campus. Jackie had led the way without revealing a single detail –even when Jan asked many, many questions on their way there- she had said it was a surprise and that she didn’t want to spoil it. Finally, as they were climbing those endless stairs, her mood got a bit better.
They reached a single green metal door, it was locked but the brunette pulled a key from her set and opened it. The door led to a little hidden rooftop garden with a few hanging plants and flowers in terracotta pots, there was also a set of recycled wood chairs and an unvarnished coffee table rough around the edges. But without any doubt the most stunning part of that small place was the view, it was the perfect spot to contemplate most of the green areas of the campus including some of the park across the street nearby the café. It was almost noon and the sun hit the opposite side but in a few hours, it would be probably the best viewpoint of the sunset.
“What is this place?” The younger kept inspecting everything.
Jackie closed the door behind them. “It used to be a project made for a group of students to raise awareness about the use of recycling materials but since they all graduated no one really knows it exists. I accidentally discovered it last year when I took a photography class and spotted it with my camera from that crossroad.” She pointed with her index finger. “I did some research and the janitor gave me the key after asking… when I was done with the assignment, she let me keep it with the promise I would do some maintenance once in a while and keep the plants alive. And since then, I come here when I need to be alone or when I’m upset… like today.”
Jan stared at her. “I’m sorry that you had to drop that class.”
“I didn’t want to quit, you know? I thought I was going to be able to handle it, by giving up I feel like I let him win…”
“No, you didn’t. You don’t have to stand that mistreatment.” She looked the brunette in the eye. “I’m glad you did it; don’t let it be a defeat, it doesn’t have to be one.”
“Thank you.” A weak smile appeared on her face.
“I’m gonna hug right now, don’t say I didn’t warn you.”
“No, you don’t have to…”
“But I want to. C’mon, come here.” She extended her arms widely. “If you don’t let me hug you I’m going to hug myself and it’s going to be lame and I’m going to be sad.”
Jackie chuckled. “Okay, I guess…”
“Yay!” Jan jumped directly to her and wrapped her arms around her.
Jan’s shampoo smelled like almonds and honey. Her embrace made Jackie feel warm inside. Clouds could’ve been made of cotton and the sky was the bluest she had ever seen.
“You see? This is nice.” The younger still held her.
“Yeah, nice…” Jackie closed her eyes and for a moment, it was all right.
They stayed there for a little while. Jackie would have to go to the copy room soon and Jan had her class after lunch. During the time they were there, Jan played some music on her phone and they talked about what had happened earlier in the café. They agreed that it was sweet that Gigi had a crush on Crystal; Jackie watered the plants and told her the story of how she had met the blonde through Nicky. Later on, she sat on one of the chairs while Jan played hopscotch with the cracks in the concrete; she sang softly the song that was playing Hey There Delilah.
“You have a good singing voice,” Jackie mentioned.
“Huh? Me? Oh… I didn’t… I just sing for fun sometimes.” She suddenly felt coy.
“I mean it. It sounded lovely.”
“You’re just being nice. You haven’t heard Rosé or Lagoona, they are amazing.”
“They could tell you. I’m sure they’d agree with me.”
“I could never sing in front of them.” She looked mortified.
“You’d do well.”
“Are you serious right now?”
“I wouldn’t lie to you.”
“I don’t know…” Jan shrugged.
The music stopped and the alarm she had set went off.
“We have to go.” The younger announced. “I’ll walk with you to the copy room and then I’ll grab something to eat.”
“Okay. Let me close the door.”
She waited until the brunette was done and they started walking downstairs.
“I wish I could work with you, wouldn’t that be fun?” Jan casually mentioned.
“Well, you’re there all the time anyway.”
“Does it bother you?”
Jackie shook her head and smiled. “No, not at all.”
“I don’t understand it.” Jan lied on the table of the study room. “I have applied for every job available at the mall and still, no response and no results.”
“Ow, baby,” Rosé ruffled her hair. “I’m sure you’re going to find something soon.”
Lagoona lifted her gaze from the textbook. “I wish I could help but the restaurant where I work is full.”
“I thought you hated that place?” Jan turned toward her.
“I do, but the tips are good.” She highlighted a sentence with her pastel marker.
She was already studying for an upcoming presentation. Rosé was memorizing the lines of a play and she got Jan there to read the other part. Now they were on a break. The pink-haired girl was drinking peach soda from a can in the meantime Jan whined for her failed job search. Lagoona –whose blue hair was beginning to fade a little- googled some job offers in the area and read them at loud.
“There are a few that sound pretty disgusting if you ask me. I didn’t know the classified ads could be this kinky.” She frowned and put her phone down.
“Hey, what about that place?” Rosé snapped her fingers. “Goona, do you remember? The diner that’s a couple of blocks from here? We used to go there all the time during our freshman year.”
“Oh, yes. That was a nice place, didn’t we stop going there because your ex-roommate worked there?”
Rosé’s expression turned sour. “Yeah… but she got fired or quit, I don’t know. The point is, they were always hiring people, maybe you could ask there?”
“And you’ve waited this long to tell me?” Jan cried. “It’s been three agonizing days.”
“They are open now so you could-”
“Bye, guys! See you later.” She grabbed her things, threw them into her backpack, and dashed out just to return a couple of seconds later. “Yeah, so I don’t know where it is.”
Jan held her breath before walking past the door.
The diner was decorated in a retro style. It had black and white floor tiles, a long bar, red stools, chairs and booths, round tables, neon signs, vinyl albums and posters of classic Hollywood stars on the walls, lamps hanging from the ceiling, and even a functional jukebox. A few people were sitting at the bar, it was still early for dinner so almost everyone was having a milkshake or some ice cream.
Jan was welcomed by a girl with dark wavy hair in a striped red and white dress with a little white apron on. The name «Denali» was written on her tag.
“Welcome to Lucky’s, would you like a table or a seat on the bar?” She smiled and a pair of dimples appeared on her face.
“Hi, I was wondering if you have a job application for me or… if you were hiring right now?”
“Oh,” She lowered her notebook. “You wanna work here? Okay, just give me a second. You can sit over there.” Denali pointed at one empty table.
“Sure.” Jan held her backpack close to her body and moved to the booth.
Denali returned shortly after with a pen and a paper sheet in her hands.
“In normal circumstances, you’d have an interview with the manager but since he’s God knows where and I’m in charge in the meantime, I’m going to let you complete this form and then ask you some questions…”
“Alright, yeah.”
“I’ll be back in a moment.”
Jan filled the form with basic information, her full name, birth date, age, address, phone number, e-mail, etc. When she was done, she observed Denali serving customers, she moved like her feet weren’t touching the floor, with a full tray on her hands as if it weighed nothing, all with a giant smile on her face. She made it look easy.
“Everything alright?” She asked before sitting in front of Jan.
“Yes, I’m done.” She returned the paper sheet.
Denali scanned it, collecting information. “Janice? Okay, you’re a college student.”
“Jan is fine. Yes, I’m a freshman.”
“Aw,” She tilted her head. “I’m going to write my notes in front of you if that’s okay.” Jan nodded. “You haven’t worked as a waitress before, right?”
“No, but I’m a fast learner and I believe I compensate my lack of experience with enthusiasm, I’ve been told.”
She wrote something “Next, uhm… Why do you want to work here?”
“I need a job to pay for my things. As I said, this is my first year of college; I have a partial scholarship and my parents are supporting me from home but I don’t want to become a burden for them.”
“Do you mind if I ask about your scholarship?”
“No, not at all. It’s for baseball.”
“Work!” She nodded. “The last one, you wrote here your potential time schedules and, according to the rules, if you only work have twice per week you’ll have to take two Saturdays per month. Are you fine with that?”
“Sure, I can take any shift that day.”
“Well, Jan, the good news is that I sense we’re going to be besties, so I wrote «overqualified», «fast learner» and «tight schedules but willing to take Saturday’s shifts» which always is a plus.” She smiled at Jan. “I believe you’re going to get a call very soon.”
“Oh my God! Thank you.” Jan grinned. “I really appreciate that.”
“No worries. You’re lucky -no pun intended-, a girl just quit but being completely honest, she was a real bitch. You can’t be worse than her.”
“I’ve heard that before and… I’m okay with that.”
“Alright. I hope I see you soon.” She winked and returned to serve tables.
Jan left the diner with the biggest smile on Earth.

Daniella followed Angel into the scrapyard. Her nerves only increased the closer she got. She held Hope tightly to her, the little girl nuzzled against her shoulder. Her palms were sweaty and her body felt like it was shaking internally, all normal sensations for Daniella when she was nervous. She didn’t understand why she was making such a big out of this. He didn’t care about her so why should she care what he thought? Still she couldn’t shake the feeling of him wanting to be proud of her. To show him how well she turned out without him, without anyone. Even though it was hell to get there.
Composing herself, she followed Creeper and Angel into the clubhouse. She immediately looked around taking in her surroundings. A habit she had developed over the years.
“He’ll be out in a minute.” Creeper said before leaving her and Angel alone in the room.
Angel smiled looking down at Hope. “She looks just like you. You’re gonna be a little heartbreaker like your mother, huh?” He asked tickling Hope with zero reaction from the girl besides her squirming away from him and closer to Dani.
Daniella rolled her eyes as she looked around the small space. The place was littered with Mayans memorabilia making the place seem more homey, but that seemed to be the purpose of the clubhouse. A home for the members of the club. Daniella knew enough about MC’s to know they were much bigger than just a club, they were a family.
She could relate, she had her own sense of family away from blood with the women she worked with. They were more of a family to her then she ever had, always looked after. They had her back just like she would always have thiers.
Many people looked down on them, like they were less than because of their line of work. Thinking of them as only an object to get off too, a warm body at their disposal, but they were so much more than that. Those women were the strongest, most incredible people she had ever met. As fucked up as a situation that it was that got Daniella into prostitution it was one of the best things for her. Another step in the right direction that led her to where she was now, who she was now.
“So, is her father in the picture?” Angel asked.
Daniella turned her attention back to Angel actually welcoming the conversation as a distraction for her bundle of nerves about meeting her own father. “No, it’s just us. Her dad is kind of a piece of shit anyways, it's better this way.” It wasn’t a lie.
Angel nodded, tucking that information away. At least he didn’t have competition with that douchebag. “Anyone else?” He asked. He had to know if there was any man whatsoever in the two girl’s lives, had to know if there was an opening for him.
“Nope, just us.” She repeated, “And before you say anything else no, we aren’t looking for anyone else.” Well besides Bishop Daniella thought. “And we don’t need anyone else.” She wasn’t here to flirt, or find love, or any of that shit. She was here for only one man. He was her top priority. She couldn’t afford any distractions and Angel was just that, one tall, attractive distraction.
Angel went to speak up again only getting cut off once more as Daniella’s attention was immediately drawn to the Templo’s door opening.
Bishop and Taza came out of Templo to meet their potential new girl. With Taza just behind him Bishop momentarily froze in his place when he met the eyes of the young woman. Eyes he knew so well, eyes he never thought he’d see again. The eyes of the love of his life staring back at him. It was like seeing a ghost or being shot back to his past. His heart clenched in his chest at the memory of what was lost to him, of what he tried to bury all those years ago when he gave up all hope.
It was all so surreal.
She looked just like her mother. Being in the same room with both her and Bishop the likeness couldn’t go unnoticed by Taza either.
Bishop composed himself quickly, looking cool on the outside as he approached her, his daughter.
He just knew it was her.
“Bishop Losa,” He introduced himself with a smile. He was so caught up in his own thoughts when he saw her that he almost didn’t notice the small child in her arms.
Daniella was praying he wouldn’t notice her trembling hands as she kept her grip on Hope. One thing for sure the two had in common was being able to remain their composure on the outside despite the rushing thoughts and emotions running through them.
“Daniella,” She said with a smile, “and this is my daughter, Hope.”
Daniella, Bishop thought to himself, and Hope. His daughter Hope, now went by the name Daniella and ironically named her own daughter Hope.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you, Daniella.” Bishop said. “Why don’t we have a seat,” He suggested nodding over to a table in the back. “Angel can take your daughter. “ He saw the uncertainty in her eyes as she contemplated his suggestion. “They’ll stay close, won’t go out of sight.”
“Okay,” Daniella agreed, passing Hope over to Angel. She tenderly tucked a strand of Hope’s hair behind her ear. “I’ll be just over there, okay?” She told the young girl, “I won’t be far.”
“I’ve got her.” Angel reassured her before taking Hope over to the bar and setting her on top of it. He watched as she kept her eyes on her mother, sucking her thumb before turning her head to look up at him, her big eyes melting his heart.
Daniella stole one last glance at Hope before taking her place across from Bishop at the table. It was crazy how in just the few days she had known Hope she had become so attached to her. She couldn’t imagine being here alone anymore. Deep down she needed Hope maybe more than Hope needed her.
“So, Daniella.” Bishop started, “Where are you from? We haven’t seen you around before.”
“All over the place, really,” Daniella said with a friendly smile. One that anyone during an interview would have. “But most recently Stockton.”
“Stockton?” Taza spoke up from where he was standing behind Bishop. “What were you doing there?”
Rowena suggested she stick as close to the truth as possible that way she would be less likely to slip up so that was exactly what Daniella was going to do. “I’m going to be honest with you,” She started. The way the two men perked up at those words and how they were observing her rather carefully was not unnoticed by Daniella.
At the same time, she was doing the same thing to Bishop. She took in every detail of him that she could. The way he spoke, how he held himself, and any little movements he made.
Bishop was waiting for her to tell him she was his daughter. He tried to plan out what he would say to her, what he should say to her. What do you say to your daughter who was taken from you so long ago? Who probably did not have an easy life, who you loved with all your heart but was not there for?
“I just got out of a luxury stay I had booked at Stockton State Prison.”
That was not what the two men were expecting to hear. Taza smiled to himself, like father like daughter. Both were clearly trouble makers.
“I was booked for possession of heroin with intent to sell, being under the influence of heroin, and resisting arrest.” She watched the men, mostly Bishop trying to read any reactions. “The heroin wasn’t mine, it was my step dad’s.” She explained. Leaning down on the table she clasped her hands together. “Look, I’ve done a lot of things I’m not proud of but I’m clean now and just want to start fresh not only for me, but for Hope.” 
“I appreciate the honesty, Daniella.” Bishop said. He wanted to reach over and grab her hand in his but didn’t. To hear what she had been through broke him. His baby girl was never supposed to have that life, but it’s the life Joselynn had so it was no surprise that she had been dragged under with her. He wanted to kill Joselynn for what she did, and kill fucking Billy too because he was almost certain the scumbag was involved as well. “We believe in second chances here. I can see you are trying to start new, that’s admirable.”
The warmth practically radiated from him making Daniella almost forget every horrible thing she knew about him, almost. She knew better than to let his act fool her though.
“What about any of your other family?” Bishop questioned. Daniella couldn't really see how that would pertain to the job but kept listening regardless. “Is your mother around? Or your father?”
“No.” She said plainly sitting back in her seat.
“What about her father?” Bishop asked nodding back to the little girl on the bar who was staring back at them waiting patiently for her mother to be done paying no mind to Angel who was trying to give her his keys.
“Not in the picture. It’s just us.”
Bishop nodded. Whoever the prick was did not deserve her time or to be in the young girl’s life in his opinion and he really hoped to never meet the man. “Okay, well we will of course have to do a background check.” He informed her. Now was her chance to speak up.
“Of course,” she smiled that fake smile again, that smile her mother used to give to anyone she was not too fond of. To anyone else it looked like a normal polite smile but Bishop knew better. “I don’t have anything to hide. I’m an open book.”
“Well, Daniella, find a sitter for your kid and you can start as soon as tomorrow. I think you will be a great addition around here.”
“Great,” her smile became more genuine. She was not expecting it to be so easy to get a job. “I already have a girl. You won’t regret this, I promise. Thank you so much, Bishop.”
Bishop smiled at her shaking her hand before she headed back towards Hope scooping the girl up in her arms and exciting the clubhouse with Angel behind her.
Stepping forward Taza set his hand on Bishop’s shoulder giving it a squeeze. “She's finally home, hermano." Taza said looking at the door where they just disappeared from. "Do you think she knows?"
"She knows." The way she was carefully watching him during their interview was what really gave her away. She knew who he was, he was certain of that. Maybe she didn't know he was her father but she definitely knew of him. "There's no way her showing up here is a coincidence."
"Are you going to tell her?"
“No,” Bishop shook his head. “I want her to come to me. She’s been through enough already. Who knows what lies Joselyn filled her head with. Now is not the time. I just got her back," Bishop's voice softened as he thought of losing his daughter once more. "I don’t want to push her away already.” More than anything he wanted to learn more about the woman she had become.
Taza understood where his brother was coming from. He never personally met Joselyn but as one of Bishop’s closest confidants he had heard the story of how he lost his love and his daughter in the same night. Bishop would not often talk about it but he never truly gave up looking for her either, even after all these years. None of them could have expected that she would be the one to find them first.
“So how does it feel, grandpa?” Taza teased.
Bishop shook his head with a smile. “Fuck off.” Standing up from his seat he passed Taza with a pat to the shoulder before making his way back to Templo. Taza watched his brother head in and close the door behind him before heading outside with the other’s to give him a moment alone.
Sitting down on his chair at the head of the table Bishop pulled the old diamond engagement ring out of his cut where he had kept it since the day he lost his family. It was nothing fancy, a simple small diamond on a silver band but his Evelia would have loved it. She was a simple woman who only needed two things in her life, Bishop and their daughter, her family.
As much as he missed her he was thankful that she did not have to live with the pain of losing their daughter like he had. At least she was spared that much. She would not have survived that.
Brining the ring to his lips he gave it a small kiss before placing it back into his pocket just over his heart. He rested his hand on top of the leather where he could just barely feel the delicate jewelry as he thought about his family and how he now had a chance to know his daughter. “She’s home, amor. She’s finally home.” He murmured. “I promise I won’t lose her again. I won’t fail her or you this time.”
Carrying Hope, Daniella headed back to her vehicle in a bit of a daze trying to fully wrap her mind around the interaction. She finally met him, actually talked to her father. She wasn’t sure how to feel in this moment and Angel walked beside her going on and on about who knows what was not helping. She could only faintly hear his voice as he talked her ear off, his words sounding muffled as her mind was elsewhere. She wasn’t listening to him but he didn't seem to notice or care. He could be telling her his deepest darkest secrets and she would never know.
“Yo. Earth to Dani.” Angel said, sticking his phone closer to her face until she subconsciously reached out and took it. He was just talking about getting her number for work which she had nodded along to but now it was like she had not listened to a single thing he had said.
“What?” Dani asked looking over at him. They were now stopped in front of her black ford focus.
"Your number?" Angel nodded down at his phone in her hand. "For work."
She shifted Hope on her hip as she looked at Angel’s bright screen with the beginnings of a new contact with her name across the screen. “Is this your way of getting my number? Man you really don’t give up. You’ve hit on me what, three times now in one day? That’s gotta be some type of record.”
Angel licked his lips leaning against her car annoying her further. She wanted to play hard to get than that was fine with him. He liked the chase. “Just for work purposes, I swear little mama." Angel smirked.
Daniella was more irritated now as she glared back at him. “So you’re telling me you aren’t going to use it as a way to send unsolicited dick pics of your,” Daniella paused to glance down at the crotch of Angel’s jeans before back up to his face with her own smirk, “less than impressive package?”
“Trust me one night in my bed and you won’t be saying that.”
Danielle chuckled, unlocking the door to her vehicle. “Trust me,” she said opening her back door nudging Angel out of the way. Bending over she set Hope into her car seat making sure she was secure all while feeling Angel’s gaze directly on her ass. Once she had Hope fully situated and buckled she turned back to face Angel. “That won’t be happening.”
Now that sounded like a challenge to Angel. “We’ll see about that.” Walking backwards he smirked as Daniella glared at him. Looking past her he waved to Hope. “Bye Hope,” He said before meeting Dani’s eyes. “See you tomorrow little mama.” Smirking Angel left her with that turning around heading back to the scrapyard. The car door slammed behind him before the vehicle started up and headed down the road. He wanted to turn back around and give her one last look but he was not going to. He was exactly where he wanted to be, under her skin.

Daniella shot up in bed clutching her stomach as the pain pierced through her abdomen so vividly. She was drenched in sweat and consumed by panic as she tried to come to her senses. Looking down she found her shaking hands free of blood bringing her some comfort as she came back to reality.
It was just another nightmare.
“Fuck,” she breathed out running her hand through her hair. Reaching over she grabbed a scrunchy from the bedside table and piled her hair on top of her head securing it loosely. Looking over she found Hope sound asleep and sprawled out across the other side of the bed, her hair sticking to her face from the heat that radiated from the young girl while she was asleep. She brushed the strand off her forehead before slipping out of bed in hopes of not disturbing her.
Padding down the hall she made her way effortlessly through the dark apartment snatching her pack of cigarettes and lighter from the coffee table on her way to the window. She unlocked it and slid the pane up. Daniella situated herself on the windowsill, one leg dangling out the edge with her back resting against the side. Lighting up a cigarette she took a long drag holding it a moment before blowing the smoke out and into the night. She leaned her head back and stared out at the full moon. They say strange things happen during full moons. Maybe that was the reason behind the violent nightmares. But if that were the case she wouldn’t have so many so often. No she knew that wasn’t true and didn’t believe in all of that anyways.
No matter how many times she had the nightmares they always seemed to shake her up, feeling just as real as when she was in prison. Most of the time it was just flashbacks of her time inside, more often than not the day she was jumped in the hall. She would never forget that moment, the rush of adrenaline when they grabbed her, the piercing pain, the metallic smell mixing with the sickeningly strong aroma of bleach from the cleanup that happened just prior.
Two women grabbed her and held her tightly in their grasps against the wall as the third, some woman with red hair and the most sinister smile on her face pulled out the shiv and waved it in front of her face, teasing her with the sharp object. “With love from Billy bitch!” The woman sneered. Before Daniella could really register what was happening the shiny metal was pierced through her abdomen, not once, not twice, but three times before they finally let up, releasing her. She clutched at the open wounds, the blood coating her hands as she collapsed onto the cold hard tile, one hand reaching out to catch herself but slipping across the floor doing nothing to lessen the impact. Leaving her with a swift kick from each the last thing she remembered is watching the women be let out by the guard as her vision clouded around her.
But this time the dream was different. Instead of being in the prison she was back in her childhood home and this time it was Billy holding a knife as he sneered down at her, her mother watching on from behind, encouraging him to finally rid her of the worthless, ungrateful reminder of what she lost, of what she’d never be.
Daniella caught the brief movement from the side of her eye and looked over into the living room almost slipping out the window. Her heart leapt into her throat as she reached out catching herself before she could go anywhere. “Jesus Christ.” She muttered with her hand on her head. Daniella looked back into the brown doe eyes staring at her. “We really need to get you a damn bell or something.”
Hope sucked on her thumb as she stared at Daniella wide eyed with Mr. Bear as Daniella called him held tightly against her chest.
“Can’t sleep?” Daniella asked, putting the cigarette out and sliding back into the apartment. She pushed the window back down, latching the lock securely before closing the curtains. Crouching down in front of Hope she ran her thumb across her face, caressing her skin where a stray tear had found its way down her plump little cheek. “Me neither. How about we put on a movie, yeah?”
Standing up she walked with Hope to the couch helping boost her up onto the leather sofa. Bending over in front of Hope Danilla caressed her face. "This is our fresh start, okay? They can't hurt you anymore. No one will ever hurt you again." Kissing Hope on the forehead she gave the girl a small smile. She meant every word. She would do anything for Hope.
Stepping back to the entertainment center Daniella sat down on her knees looking through the various titles on the shelf. Unfortunately when Rowena set everything up it wasn’t with a toddler in mind. She ran her fingers across the spines of the many DVDs before pulling out Stranger Things. “How about this?” She asked holding the case up for Hope to see. “Ro said it was the first thing I needed to watch once I was out and there’s kids in it so that means it’s kid friendly, right?” Hope stared back as always snuggling into one of the purple pillows on the sofa. “Yeah, we’ll try it.” Daniella decided, popping the disc into the DVD player and grabbing the remote before sitting down next to Hope.
The show began playing the theme song quietly as Daniella stared ahead watching the colors flash across the screen. Her mind wasn’t on the show however but her meeting with her father just hours before. “I know I should have told him, but we don’t even know the guy Hope. Right now we have the upper hand, the chance to see just who he really is before we give ourselves away.” She explained. Maybe she was a coward but she had been burned too many times in her past. She wasn’t about to open herself up to him leaving herself and Hope included vulnerable to him or anyone for that matter.
She chewed on her bottom lip as she replayed the meeting over and over in her mind. “He wasn’t what I was expecting Hope.” Daniella said, turning to look at Hope. “He didn’t seem like the shitty person mom made him out to be.” She pulled her legs up onto the couch sitting criss crossed. It was weird seeing Bishop in person to Daniella. He seemed nothing like what she had envisioned from the few details her mother would give her. He seemed like a good guy and she craved to get to know him better, craved the love she didn’t receive growing up but she knew better than to get her hopes up. “But first impressions don’t mean anything, Hope.” She explained to her as Hope listened intently. She was a good listener at least. “Most people won’t show you their real colors until they’ve already sunk their claws into you. You can’t trust anyone. It’s just you and me against the world now. We gotta look out for us.” In time he’d slip up and show her the real him, it was really only just a matter of time.

      You bite your lips and rest your head against the back of the chair. You pinch yourself twice. You still know how each blow felt like and sometimes your muscles would spasm when you see it in your head. The moving room. The floor meeting your face. That crowbar that you now know was used to beat up Jason.
      You can still feel the sudden sucking air before the huge blast knocks your body away and the loss of all feeling before you even hit the ground. You lost your consciousness mid-air. You wonder if it was because of the strength of the blast or the sensitivity of your link, but from what Dick had told you, your body was thrown against the wall by an invisible force.
      You hug yourself and watch new writing appear.
      Did it hurt?
      You lay your head to the side. Exhausted from this conversation. Already tired of this second life.
       Jason, please. Come home.
      Jason didn’t stop talking to you after that. When he finally realized that you had nothing to do with everything, that you were just a victim, even more than he was, he felt that he could trust you more. It also helped that his memories were slowly returning ever since he found out about his death.
      At least I never accidentally called my friend’s mother ‘mom’.
      How? Are your memories back? Do you remember everything now? AND THAT WAS ONE TIME.
      More than ever, he tries to avoid any topic of where he is and you’re more than upset by this. Most of the time the past was all you talked about. He would boast about his Robin days and tell you how exciting it felt and the fulfillment he experienced from putting bad guys away.
     Sometimes he would talk about his exercises with the League but lying about its nature and intensity. At least you finally realize why your body always feels fatigued. 
      However, he did become more careful after that. There were no more cuts, not even a bruise or a stinging slap. But not because Jason was getting better. No. It was because he stopped putting himself in danger, just dodging and retreating.
      This made Ra’s Al Ghul very disappointed.
      “At this rate, the boy will take over the Bat with old age on his side.”
      Talia purses her lips, “Jokes, father? I thought that was beneath you.”
      “No, daughter,” Ra’s approaches his daughter, “this boy is beneath the League. We need to take him out of his comfort zone and release the anger simmering inside. The same anger that got him killed.”
      “But father--”
      “With our training, daughter, it won’t get him for a second time.”
      Talia stands silently by the sidelines until Ra’s approaches her on his way to leave the balcony where they watch Jason and Sensei training. “Do it now, daughter.”
      Jason sees them and he knows they know he’s slacking off. The moment Talia approaches them, Sensei has already finished training Jason and walks off after a bow to the Demon Head’s daughter.
      She stands with her arms crossed and looking down at Jason.
      “Let me guess,” he starts, “Not enough shoulder in my punches?”
      Her eyes narrow, “We are not teaching you how to maim, Jason. We want you to act on instinct. Be resourceful. Be merciless. So you can kill your enemies before they can even breathe your name.”
      Jason clenches his fist, “There’s only one person I want to kill so I can get my life back.”
      Talia raises an eyebrow, “And you think you can take him on now? With the way you are? You would be dead a second time before you even meet his eyes.”
      He turns away from her, gritting his teeth. Talia sighs and places her hand on his shoulder. “There is another thing you have to know. Follow me. Please.”
      There’s a sudden change in Talia’s demeanor. Her voice is softer and she never says please. Jason could already feel it in his stomach that this is not good news. He follows her down the corridors until he’s in an unfamiliar room.
      It was a lot bigger and it looked a lot nicer than his room. He stands awkwardly near the door when he realizes it was Talia’s room. She pulls out a brown envelope from the drawer in her desk. She sits down on her bed and pats the space beside her.
      “You would want to sit for this.”
      All awkwardness had vanished and Jason is hesitant now. He wonders if it’s something he wants to know. Something he needs to know. Talia leaves the envelope on the bed and waits for Jason to open it himself.
      The moment he touches it, she speaks, “Why do you want to go back to your old life, Jason?”
      Jason instinctively pulls down on his sleeves, “Because it’s my life.”
      “The League can be your life now. We didn’t bring you back for you to simply die again.”
      Jason scoffs, “Trust me. I’m done dying for the next couple of decades.”
      She narrows her eyes, “You’ll die as soon as tomorrow if you don’t start taking your training seriously.”
      “I’ve already had training!” Jason blows up, “You’re training me to be an assassin. Not just any assassin but into one of your little drones here in the League. I don’t want this life.”
      “Jason, we do good work here. We help citizens trample their oppressors and help societies be reborn from the ashes of their failures--”
      “You mean the ashes of their families! Men! Women! Children! Guilty and innocent! You just kill everyone.”
      “We are trying to do good just like Batman.”
      He scoffs with so much disbelief that Talia would even say that, “He doesn’t kill--”
      “But you want to,” Talia holds his hands, trying to calm him with half-lidded eyes. “Once you kill the Joker, that scum on this Earth who kills for joy, Gotham can never be your home. Batman will never accept you.” Jason stays silent and Talia presses on, squeezing his hands, “If he asks you to choose, could you walk away from killing the Joker in order to have your old life back?”
      “I--” he stammers before he thinks about it. Then he really thinks about it and he doesn’t know.
      Every time he gets flashes of his last memories, his blood boils and all he can hear is the incessant maniacal laughter piercing into deep wounds that are no longer there. Then he remembers you. Feeling everything he felt. Every single blow. Every slam against the pavement.
      Before Jason could find his answer, Talia gently lets go of his hands and holds out the envelope to him. In a whisper, she says, “There’s nothing for you to go home to, Jason.”
      Jason’s thoughts melt away. He stares at the envelope and grabs it. He doesn’t know what to expect. He opens the envelope and his fist is already clenching the photos as he takes them out, “No--- what.”
      They’re images of Batman fighting crime in Gotham city with another Robin. There are no dates on it but he knows in his gut it’s not Dick Grayson and it’s not him. It’s a new Robin. His new Robin.
      To Bruce, it has been two years. But to Jason, he was his Robin just weeks ago.
      Jason keeps staring at the photos with his mouth wide open but no word could come out. Talia touches him. She waits until he looks at her.
      “This can be your new home. We can be your new family and the League always takes care of its own.” She watches something behind his eyes change, soften, no, break. Slowly, she pries his fingers open until the pictures fall onto the ground. Jason just keeps staring at her as her hands wrap around his neck and pull him onto the bed with her, above her.
      “I wish you would stay. Stay here,” she brushes his hair, her eyes half-lidded, making Jason’s do the same, “with me.”
      You’re down in the cave, listening to Tim tell you about school and ignoring Batman sitting by the computer when you feel it. You touch your lips to find that they’re quivering, or it’s your fingers that are shaking because that was definitely a kiss.
      “Hey. You okay?” 
      Suddenly numb to everything around you, you can feel soft lips pressing hard against yours, moving intensely, hungry. When a tongue forces its way into your mouth, playing with yours, it feels like something is lodged in your throat, making your body bend over to gag.
      “Y/N!” Tim holds your shoulders but you quickly slap them away. Bruce is standing now and making his way to you.
      “What do you feel?” he asks.
      What do you feel? You feel like vomiting. You feel like someone is invading your space. You feel like you’re growing insane because you don’t want this but at the same time, it’s making you feel good.
      “No… no…” you grumble. “It’s not me. These aren’t mine…”
      Bruce’s eyes narrowed, “Is it Jason’s?”
      You blink and your eyes are blurry with tears when you open them. Who else could it be? But this means. Jason is…
      When you feel it, the abrupt touch on the ghost limb between your legs, you know exactly what’s going on. “I can’t--”
      You run deep into the cave until you can no longer hear Tim or Bruce’s voice but you know at least one of them is chasing after you. “Please don’t follow me!” you scream as loud as you can and the last of their steps echo into nothing. 
      You lean against the jagged wall and the darkness envelops you until you can’t hear your own strangled cries, corrupting you until all you feel is Jason having sex. 
      Her touch on his skin. Her tongue on his collarbone. Her hand tangling in his hair, pulling him to her. Her wet pussy’s walls pressing down on him until Jason can’t hold it in anymore-- until you can’t hold it in.

      Your voice echoes in the darkness, like a shield permeating outward until it hits Tim and makes him stop in his tracks.
     “Don’t touch me…” you whisper.
      Tim doesn’t make a sound. He doesn’t come close. He doesn’t do anything but stands there in the darkness like another one of the cave’s walls. You scream at the ground again, your strangled voice laced with frustration.
      “I don’t want this link anymore!” you heave in breaths as words come out of your mouth like acid vomit, “I don’t want it! Take it away!”
      Tim waits patiently, his fists clenching and unclenching as your screams surround you like a blanket piled on top of each other. Words coming out before one was even finished. Until finally your words turn into murmurs and sobs. Intermittent sobs because Tim can hear now that you’re hyperventilating.
      He doesn’t touch you but he kneels down so close it almost makes you want to vomit again.
      “Y/N. It’s me, Tim. It’s just you and me here. No one else.”
      You close your eyes. To you, he’s lying. You can still feel the slender and soft fingers combing your hair and legs wrapped around your thighs. 
      You crouch lower, willing yourself to not adjust to the darkness. Still heaving breaths like you’re drowning.
      “Y/N, you can stop the link. You just have to stop thinking of Jason.” You stare at the ground in front of you. You can almost see it. Tim watches you and waits for your breathing to change before he keeps going. 
      “Feel the ground beneath your hands. Let your fingertips rub the rough surface. That’s it.” Some rocks become uprooted and they roll under your fingers. You can also feel the coldness and dampness of the cave. 
      “You feel that? Focus on how it feels. That’s all you. That’s just you.”
      Hours. It was hours before you sat up and leaned against the wall. Tim never moved a muscle while he waited. You can feel the cold wall soothing your back and you focus on that feeling. You focus on your feelings. Your breath, your heart, and the things touching your own skin at this moment. These are your own and no one else’s.

Keanu Reeves x Reader (A/n- This is the end, though I feel like its not the end that everyone’s been anticipating, but I’ve had it planned for almost two months.) Chapter Summary- Y/n and Daniel make a decision about their marriage and a reunion with Keanu isn’t a easy as anyone thought it would be.

Their house sits at the top of a winding, nearly two mile long, cobblestone driveway, manned at the front by an impressive gate. Yet, even from upstairs in their shared bedroom, she can hear the hum of his car after the creek of the wrought iron. 
For a minute, Y/n just sits on the bed, not really affected by his presence, before standing to greet him downstairs. On her way to the grand stairs, she passes another bedroom, the door has been left ajar and inside, a small boy plays with the electric train set that his grandparents brought from their last trip to London, just a month ago. Ryan. He adores it, at least for now, he has so many that his affections towards his toys barely last a week. He isn’t spoiled though, at least his parents don’t think so, but their opinions might be subjective. 
Y/n’s fingers ghost the smooth, varnished wooden railing as she descends to the first floor, journeying towards the foyer. By the time she gets there, Daniel has already shoved off his jacket and is now taking off his shoes. Y/n smiles lightly as he does it; at first, when they’d started living together, it had been hard for her to get used to switching shoes upon entering the house, but Daniel had grown up with the custom, and she’d eventually gotten into it for him.
At the sight of her, he straightens up, barely smiling as he starts towards her, “‘Evening,” Daniel greets quietly, pecking her at the corner of her lips. Not directly on them, he hardly ever kisses her there anymore.
“How was work?” Y/n trails behind him, following her husband to his home office, where he usually drops his stuff off before dinner. When he turns to her, for the first time, Y/n notices the faintest hint of a lipstick stain right under his jaw. It’s funny because that’s not even her preferred color. 
“Good,” he says, leaning on the edge of his desk, folding his arms across his broad chest, “I know what you’re going to say,” his face falls, “And I just want you to know that I’m sorry.”
“Yeah,” Y/n chuckles humorlessly, “I’m sorry too. I’ve been thinking,” she moistens her lips, raising her hand to tuck a stray curl behind her ear. Y/n doesn’t know why she’s so nervous about bringing it up, it’s what’s best for them. Blinking away the stinging in her eyes, “We need to.....” she couldn’t even finish the sentence, her father would be so disappointed if he was still he around, and her mother is going to be pissed when they tell her. 
“Yeah,” Daniel nods slowly, “I’ll call the lawyers tomorrow,” when Y/n bends her head, swiping at her eyes, her agreement unspoken. “I really am sorry,” Daniel says in some kind of throw attempt to make the ruins of their marriage better, “I never meant-”
“Do you love her?” Y/n glances up at him. She loves him, but for some reason, the idea of having a failed marriage at thirty hurts more than losing him. Maybe it’ll be better if she knows that they're leaving so they can find what makes them happy.
Daniel hesitates before smiling, “I think so. Y/n, she’s.....she’s amazing.”
Offering him a watery smile, Y/n nods again, thinking about how she told the only man that she loved that they couldn’t be together, “That’s good, that’s really good.”
“Thanks,” thinking for a minute, he starts speaking again, “Maybe you could call-”
“Mommy!” Y/n jumps at Ryan calling out to her as he runs into the room, obviously intent on finding his mother, though, as he skids into the room, spotting Daniel, his little face lights up as he runs towards his father, “Daddy! You’re home!”
“I am bud,” effortlessly, Daniel lifts Ryan into his arms, “Missed you all day,” he pecks Ryan’s cheek and Y/n smiles, glad that he isn’t old enough to reject his parents affections. At a first glance, they look alike.....in a generic sort of way.
Daniel is a good father.
7Turning to her, Ryan frowns, “Why are you crying mommy?”
Sniffling, Y/n quickly tries to right herself, this isn’t how she wants him to find out, “It’s nothing baby,” Y/n approaches them a the desk, the loose, cuffed sleeves of her cable knit sweater fall over her wrists as she brings her hands to Ryan’s face, placing a kiss on his forehead, “I just love you so, so much that it makes me so happy, I cry.”
“And daddy too?” Ryan looks hopeful, as if telling her that he needs confirmation.
“Yeah baby,” she breaths, her words almost choked, “And daddy too.” It’s not a lie, not really. 
She loves his daddy too.

He didn’t know why she’d called, but Keanu had gone. He’d always go.
Her office looked different from the last time he saw it, though, Keanu had never spent a lot of time there anyway. There were pictures; a few of her and Daniel and others of a child who seemed strangely familiar. The thought nagged him, but Keanu tried to ignore it. The colors were lighter too, and he could tell that she’d redecorated recently.
When Keanu heard the door open behind him, he stood from the sofa she had tucked away in the corner of the room. She looked different, but still somehow the same. Six years. Six years since she’d chosen Daniel, since she’d told him that she’d always love him, but her responsibilities came first, since Y/n became the one that got away. Keanu had dated since then, but halfheartedly so and nothing seemed to stick. He’d always find himself measuring women to her; they didn’t just look or feel different, but they could never make him feel what Y/n had, not even close.
“Hi,” she smiled, her voice quiet. For a minute, words escaped him. They hadn’t stood face to face like that since she was all decked off in white. Even then with tears in her eyes, she had this young, free look about her. But that day, in her office, Y/n looked the part that she’d assumed; president of a company, wife, mother. 
Keanu swallowed tightly, not knowing if he should keep his distance or reach out to hug her, “Hey.”
Awkwardly, Y/n eventually leaned in, pulling Keanu into a lingering hug, her heels affording her the opportunity to bury her face in his neck, inhaling his scent; cologne, cigarettes and pleasurably familiar. She’d missed him, and there so much she had to say, so much that she’d kept from him. “Thank you for coming,” she breathed standing on her toes so her lips could be close to his ear.
“I was surprised when I got your call,” out of the blue, a couple nights prior when he was just leaving his sister’s place after dinner. Keanu hadn’t told anyone that he was going to see Y/n, hell, he didn’t even know if he was actually going until he parked his bike in the underground parking lot of where she worked.
Instead of saying anything on the matter, Y/n just pecked his cheek as she pulled away, “Can I get you something? Coffee, water, stiff drink?”
“I’m fine thanks,” following Y/n’s lead, they sat on the plush sofa, turned to each other, their knees close, almost touching; her smooth bare one nearly against his jean clad one. 
“Alright,” Y/n wrung her fingers in her lap, her pastel manicured nails standing out against the dark burgundy of her stylish dress, “How have you been?”
“I’m fine,” Keanu observed her, wondering what could make her so nervous and too anxious himself to be coy about it, “What am I doing here Y/n?”
Sighing loudly, Y/n began to speak, though overcome with hesitation, she stood, passing a hand over her chest, down her stomach before dropping it to her side. “Daniel and I are getting divorced,” she finally managed all at once, “He’s in love with this woman.....she’s a engineer at his firm or something,” Y/n waved her hand absently, “I guess it doesn’t really matter.”
Standing abruptly, Keanu met Y/n at the center of the room, gently placing his hands on her shoulders, trying to still her nervous movements, “I’m so sorry,” he frowned, “Are you okay?”
“Actually, I am,” she smiled up at him, but Y/n still seemed unsure. What was she expecting, calling Keanu there? That they’d just go back to the way things were. Life wasn’t that easy. “It’s been coming for a long time, and it’s good that he’s found someone that he really loves, he deserves it.”
Moistening his lips, Keanu’s palms slid down Y/n’s arms, so he could take her fingers in his, finally understanding why she called him there. He wasn’t sure how he felt about that though. Keanu had spent the past six years wishing for one more moment, but now that it was there, he wasn’t sure if it could be chalked up to all he’d made himself believe it to be. There were too many factors involved. “So do you,” he finally offered.
“I know,” Y/n met his gaze through her long lashes, “That’s why I called you.”
Pulling his hands out of hers, Keanu turned to face Y/n’s desk, running a hand through his tousled hair, “So you wouldn’t have to be alone?”
“What?” Y/n scoffed, “No, of course not. Because I should have chosen you at the beginning. Because if i’d married you, stayed with you, fought for us, I wouldn’t be in this mess. Because I’ve thought of you everyday since then, because it took Daniel one mistake and six years in a marriage that wasn’t meant to be to find the woman that he loves, but I’ve known who I wanted to spend the rest of my life with even before I started one with him. I was stupid for letting that happen Keanu, and I’m so, so sorry.”
Sighing heavily, Keanu still stood with his back to her, about to respond when his eyes fell once again on a picture of the little boy. Still, he got the odd, possibly misplaced feeling of familiarity, like Keanu had seen him before, but not really. Looking at the picture, he had this overwhelming, though completely irrational, sense that they knew each other. Shaking his head, Keanu swiped up the picture, forgetting about their conversation, bringing it closer to his face, “This is your son?”
“Yeah,” Y/n breathed, swallowing tightly as she watched Keanu put the pieces together, “He’s six.”
“Six?” Keanu mirrored, raising his brows, “You must have gotten pregnant pretty quickly after the wedding.”
Clearing her throat, Y/n stepped to his side, looking at the picture too. Everyone who’d met them liked to say that Ryan resembled Daniel, but if they’d met Keanu....”It was before, actually. I found out on our honeymoon.”
“Oh,” the little sound left his lips in the form of a quiet mumble. “Is he Daniel’s?” The question was tentative, as if he were afraid to ask it, though Y/n suspected that he already knew the answer.
Overcome with emotion, Y/n’s voice got caught in her throat, “No,” she admitted, for the very first time, out loud. How Y/n had kept him from Keanu for all that time was still a surprise to her. The truth was, that ever since she’d found out, Y/n didn’t believe for one second that the baby was Daniel’s. And when Ryan was born, Daniel knew too, but instead of causing a row, he’d accepted it, pushed past his hurt and raised Ryan as his own. He was a good father. He really was, but in the back of her mind, Y/n always wondered what it would have been like to parent alongside Keanu.
“Does Daniel know?” Keanu’s shoulders slumped and it felt like his life was changing in an instant. One morning spent in her office and suddenly, he was a father. 
“Yes,” placing a hand on his arm, Y/n kept her eyes trained on the picture, “He’s so much like you, intuitive, sensitive, intelligent, strong and his hair is always a mess.”
For the briefest second, Keanu chuckled at the comment. Though, his expression quickly morphed into seriousness once again, “Why didn’t you say something? You could have called.”
By then, Y/n thought it was best to put some space between them, “And say what? ‘Hey Ke, I know I married someone else, but I just found out that I’m pregnant and I think it’s yours’?” Y/n shook her head, “Is that what you wanted?”
Putting the picture back where it belonged, “It would have been better than not knowing at all.” Keanu no longer seemed sympathetic. Instead, he was angry, and worst yet, hurt. “Y/n,” his voice broke, tears in his eyes, “He’s my son.”
“I know,” Y/n put her fingers over her quivering lips, salty tears blurring her vision, “But Daniel is a good father.”
“I could have been a good father!” When Keanu’s voice rose, Y/n jumped.
Clenching and unclenching her jaw. Y/n folded her arms across her chest, “You think I don’t know that?” Her words were strained with emotion and she could feel everything that she’d felt over the past six years, since she’d let Keanu go, coming back to her in a rush, “I know you’d be a good father, a great one! But I had to do what was right; I’d just gotten married, everyone was just looking to us to have a baby and-”
“And what? That was an easy fix? God,” he breathed, ranking his fingers through his hair, Keanu turned to lean on the desk. He didn’t look at her, instead scrubbing his hands over his face before folding his arms and looking towards the door. Y/n understood why he was mad; if someone told her that she had a secret kid somewhere, she would be too. But she just needed him to see that, at that time, she thought it was best. Y/n couldn’t have complicated her brand new marriage by telling everyone that the baby wasn’t Daniel’s, his parents; two people that had accepted her as one of their own, who absolutely adored Y/n, would have been heartbroken.
“No, it wasn’t,” Y/n hastily swiped under her eyes, shifting her weight to her left leg, “But everyone already believed it. I know it was wrong, and I thought about calling you everyday after he was born, but I knew that if you saw him, you’d fall just as deep in love with him as I did,” quietly, she sobbed, “And I wouldn’t have been able to let you go either. I’m so sorry,” her voice broke again, thick with pain, “Keanu, I’m so, so sorry.”
Sighing heavily, he glanced at her for a minute, so much going through his mind. The last time he saw Y/n, she was wearing a wedding dress, but wasn’t getting married to him. If only he’d known then; he’d have begged her to leave Daniel, make her any promise in the world, just to have her leave that reception with him. He’d have gotten on his knees and begged her to marry him. He’d have done anything to be a part of their lives, to make sure that they were a family.
But Keanu had no clue and his ignorance had cost him so much. First cry, first steps, his first word, six birthdays and everything in between. The sheer pain of everything that he didn’t know was crushing him and he had the desperate urge to make up for it, “Can I meet him?”
“Ke,” Y/n swallowed tightly, “He thinks that Daniel is his father, I can’t confuse him like that.”
“I’m not asking you to tell him,” he reasoned, “I just want to meet him, please.”
Mulling on it for a moment, Y/n eventually nodded, “Okay, yeah, you can meet him.”

After a long conversation about why mommy and daddy could no longer live together, Daniel had packed up most of his stuff and temporarily moved into one of his parents’ ritzy apartments in the city. It had been three months since they filed for divorce and one month since Y/n had told Keanu that Ryan was actually his son. They’d only had brief exchanges since then, most of them awkward and tense.
Initially, things had been hard; figuring out a working schedule that would ensure that Ryan could spend time with both Y/n and Daniel, trying to find steady ground with their own parents and finally, trying to make sure that Ryan was okay in the midst of all of it. Needless to say, Y/n hadn’t had the time to set up a time for Keanu to meet Ryan.
Though, after things had settled, Y/n had finally submitted into organizing an afternoon where Keanu would come over to her place in Beverly Hills, just a few streets over from where Y/n lived when they’d first met. She had discussed Ryan meeting Keanu with Daniel, and while at first, he’d been reluctant to let it happen, he had eventually given in.
When the day came, a warm Saturday in June, Y/n had sat Ryan down in the living room, interrupting his screen time to explain that she was having someone over that she’d like him to meet. Easing the tablet out of his hand, Y/n set it next to her on the plush sofa, drawing his attention, “Ry,” she smiled faintly, “Remember I said I had a friend I wanted you to meet?”
“Yeah,” he nodded vigorously, “You said he was coming over today.”
“That’s right, he’s gonna be here any minute now,” she ruffled his hair, “And if you two get along, he might come around more often. But that doesn’t mean you have to pretend to like him for me.”
“Is he your boyfriend?” Ryan tilted his head, and Y/n chuckled at his question, “Because it’s okay if he is, daddy said it's okay for you two to be happy, even if it's with other people.”
Though the words left his lips with ease, Ryan still seemed a little uneased by the thought of new people in his parents’ lives. She couldn’t blame him, it couldn’t have been easy to come to term with the fact that they weren’t together anymore, especially when he couldn’t really see the reason for their split. The saving grace was that Y/n and Daniel had been civil through it all; no loud fights or vindictive comments. They still spoke highly of each other to their son and when Daniel had let Ryan meet his girlfriend, it had been a quiet affair and he had reminded him that she was in no way meant to replace his mother. 
“He’s not,” Y/n’s smile faltered, reminded of the current tension between her and Keanu, “I know it’s been difficult to adjust, and lots of things are changing, but you know you can always talk to mommy if something’s bothering you, right?”
“Yeah,” he nodded again, and just then, a housekeeper came in, whispering in Y/n’s ear that Keanu was just outside of the room. Mustering up a smile that she hoped didn’t seem nervous, Y/n told her to bring him in. 
Y/n stood as he entered the room, and before they could even greet each other, Keanu’s eyes fell on Ryan, who was still sitting on the couch. “You’re early,” Y/n was the one to speak first,
“I was too anxious to wait,” he smiled sheepishly, “This must be Ryan,” he waved to him, and shy and a little startled without further warning, Ryan slunk behind his mother, fistfuls of her powder blue chiffon  blouse scrunched up his fingers. He’d always been like that around new people; it had taken him nearly a year to warm up to his babysitter and when he started school, it had been the same.
Reaching behind herself, Y/n’s affectionately ruffled his soft, dark hair, chuckling quietly, “Sweetheart, Keanu’s here to meet you, don’t you want to say hello?” He didn’t respond, but Y/n felt him shake his head in a silent ‘no’. Turning back to Keanu, she inhaled quietly, “He’s a little shy, so it might take him a while to warm up.”
“Its fine,” Keanu assured her. Inside though, he was disappointed that his own son seemed afraid of him, but Keanu firmly reminded himself that Ryan still knew Daniel as his father, and that for all intents and purposes, he was just a stranger in the boy’s home. “You know, Ryan,” Keanu spoke even as Ryan continued hiding behind his mother, “You mom mentioned that you like motorcycles, so I brought you something,” Keanu gently shook a blue gift bag with white crepe sticking out decoratively.
“Look baby,” Y/n turned slowly, lowering herself so she and Ryan could be eye to eye, her grip on his fragile feeling shoulders firm but loving, “Keanu brought you something, don’t you want to see what it is? And thank him for bringing you a present?”
“I guess so,” he mumbled, his eyes trained on the carpeted floor.
“Thank you,” Y/n kissed his cheek, rocking back on her heel afterwards to allow him some space to approach Keanu.
Keanu grinned as he handed over the bag, and slowly, Ryan fished out its contents. Finally when he produced a remote controlled motorbike, his features lit up enough to match Keanu’s broad expectant smile, “This is so cool!” Fiddling with for a moment, Ryan deposited it on the coffee table nearby, throwing his arms around Keanu’s neck, “Thank you!” Though shocked at first, Keanu quickly reciprocated, holding Ryan close. 
Y/n was surprised by his excitement and ready display of affection; he’d never been like that with anyone outside of their family. Maybe deep down he knew, the thought was troubling. Still, Y/n, smiled despite herself, and then, more than ever, she longed to know what it would have been like if Keanu were the one raising Ryan with her. 
“Mommy?” He broke her thoughts, looking up at her hopefully, “Can we play with it outside? Please?”
After a moment of hesitation, Y/n submitted, “Why not?” For another minute, she thought of accompanying them, but quickly thought better of the idea. She trusted Keanu, and if she wanted any sort of relationship to be built between him and Ryan organically, she’d have to give them space. And moreover, if she ever wanted Keanu to trust her again, the least she could do was prove that she trusted him, “Why don’t you take Keanu out back, you can show him your playground and you can play with your new toy there, sounds good?” Nodding his agreement, Ryan was already eagerly taking Keanu’s hand, urging him down the hallway, “And stay away from the pool okay?” When Ryan didn’t seem to pay any mind to her, she called out to Keanu instead, “Keep a close eye on him, please?”
“Uh,” Keanu turned back to her, wide, giddy grin painting his face, still walking along with Ryan, “Yeah of course.”

From her home office upstairs, Y/n watched as Keanu and Ryan played in his fenced off, outdoor play area, sending the toy around the parameter and between the swing set and slides. Ryan seemed to be mostly in control of the toy, though Keanu was kneeling next to him, showing him things on the remote and at times, saying something that would make Ryan laugh. Occasionally, she’d take a lengthy sip from her glass of white wine, the crisp coolness calming her nerves; she knew that Keanu wouldn’t let it slip that he was actually Ryan’s father, but a part of her was still scared that it would somehow get out. 
She really had thought of calling Keanu after Ryan was born, hell, she’d wanted to call the very day that she was sat in the beach house in Fiji, pregnancy test in her shaking hands, two pink lines telling her fate; not just a newly wed, but also a young mother. His words from the night of her rehearsal dinner had been easily recalled in that moment, he’d always be with her. Y/n had chuckled at that, just realizing that he was right, he would always be with her, if not literally, in the life they’d created together. 
Y/n had spectated from the window for most of Keanu and Ryan’s play date, though, after a while, she’d decided to give them some privacy and went on to tend to her paperwork. Slowly, she worked though the pile of her desk, along with responding to some emails awaiting attention on her laptop, punctuating her session with slow sips of wine. 
After a few hours, another housekeeper poked her head into her office, letting Y/n know that dinner was almost ready and that Keanu and Ryan had come in. Excited to hear things from their perspective, Y/n shoved the top of her computer closed and jogged down the stairs, only gaining some composure when she entered the living room, scrubbing her delicate hands on the soft fabric of her cream pants, “So,” she sat on the sofa opposing the one that Keanu and Ryan had stationed themselves on, “Did you guys have fun?” 
“We did!” Ryan was nearly bouncing in his spot, proceeding to ramble on about all the cool tricks that Keanu had taught him with the toy. "And mommy, he has real motorcycles, he says we can come see them, can we mommy?"
"I uhhh….." Y/n glanced at Keanu, looking for confirmation.
For the first time since he'd gotten there, he directed a genuine, though faint smile to her, "I'd love for you two to stop by the shop."
Nodding slowly, Y/n knew that they'd have to spend some more time together before she'd make up her mind and take Ryan to Arch. 
Sitting across from them like that, Y/n could see almost every similarity shared between them. Of course, Ryan had learned mannerisms and traits from Daniel, but still, there were subtle things that transcended physical likenesses, they were they both got animated when they spoke, fidgeted with their fingers in quieter moments and there was even a shared adventurous spirit. 
When Ryan spoke again, his question wasn't directed to her, though she still listened in. He was turned to Keanu, eyes bright and pleading, "My mom's taking me to the zoo next Saturday. Can you come, please," he stressed.
Keanu wanted to say yes, he really did and Y/n could see it written on his face. But he certainly wasn't going to intrude on their time unless she'd permitted it. They were barely speaking after all. "Honey," Y/n gently intervened, "We don't even know if he's busy. I'll talk it over with him and we'll see, okay?" Ryan seemed a little deflated, taking her answer as a no. "Why don't you go wash up for dinner and I'll meet you there?" Nodding and then quickly hugging Keanu as a goodbye, Ryan scurried out of the living room.
As Y/n stood, Keanu did too, "Would you like to join us?" She offered, secretly hoping he'd say yes.
"I shouldn't," stuffing his hands into his pockets, Keanu shuffled his feet, the sound muffled by the carpet, "I have a meeting in the morning and then a couple errands to run. So I guess I should get going."
Y/n's smile faltered and she hugged herself, offering to walk Keanu to the door, "Okay." The silence was tense and the only thing filling it was their shoes softly thudding against the shiny marble floor. Though, when they neared the foyer, Y/n tentatively broke it, "You should come with us, on Saturday, if you have the time. We’re going to see the new Bengal cubs, Ryan’s been wanting to go since they talked about them on T.V,” she chuckled quietly. “I know it probably doesn’t matter, but I’d like for you to come with.”
“It does matter,” Keanu assured as they reached the front door. Y/n made no move to open it and Keanu no longer appeared to be in a hurry. In fact, he seemed to have a change of heart, or at the very least, interested starting the path to amends. Reaching between them, he took a loose hold on her fingers, “I think I’d like to tag along, you can text me the details.”
“Okay, great,” Y/n beamed. She couldn’t remember the last time she’d smiled at a man like that, maybe during her last days with Keanu, years ago. When her smile softened a bit, Y/n looked down at their joined hands. If only he knew how much she’d missed him. As hard as Y/n had tried, she couldn’t love Daniel, at least, not half as much as she still loved Keanu. “I’m sorry,” moisture gathered in her eyes, “About everything, about not trying harder for us, about Ryan.” Even if they’d met, it would never be the same as having Keanu raise him, he might never know the truth. 
“I’ve been thinking a lot,” Keanu cleared his throat, his nerves, fighting to get the better of him. He’d rehearsed the words in his head for an entire week, and had longed for a moment alone with Y/n, though, now that it had arrived, he was scared as hell. “About us,” he eventually clarified, “What happened that night hurt, finding out about Ryan the way I did was even worse, but I’m starting to understand why you did things like that. And I don’t want to be mad at you anymore; miss you Y/n, I have ever since that night.”
“I’ve missed you too,” Y/n managed, and as a tear trickled down her cheek, Keanu raised his hand to brush it away with his thumb, “I still love you Keanu,” her breathy words were music to his ears, he hadn’t expected her to say them, even if his heart knew they were true. 
“I know,” he mumbled, stepping closer. Y/n was propped up against the wall, near the coat rack at the front door, “I still love you too, I never stopped.” Moistening his lips, Keanu took a deep breath, unconsciously leaning into her. One touch, lips on lips, was all it took for the fire to be reignited. Though, maybe it had never been completely doused, and the embers of flames still burning had just found fuel. 
Y/n’s hands found Keanu’s back, her nails sinking into the leather of his jacket, She stood on her toes, longing to get closer, trying to close six years worth of distance and Keanu gathered Y/n in his arms, snaking them around her waist and holding her steady and flush against his body. Their lips moved in unison and he could taste her tears and vaguely hear her sobbed breaths which were muffled by their endearment. His tongue roamed her mouth, recognizing her taste instantly and longing for more. How had he even gone six years without it?
Even when they broke, Y/n and Keanu still stood close, “I brought you something,” his voice was gravely from their lengthy kiss, and his words no louder than a whisper, “Here,” he reached into his pocket, getting out a necklace that Y/n recognized almost instantly, her eyes brightening a a faint smile curving her lips.
“This is…..” She looked down at the pendant in her small palm, silver with detailed workings and meticulously placed pearls. It was the one they had seen in Greece, their very first night together, when they were drunk and stumbling along the mostly empty scenic streets. That must have been what he was trying to give her on the night of her wedding reception, when she’d put an end to things, breaking both their hearts. “You kept it,” she mused sorrowfully.
“I’d keep it forever if it meant I’d someday have a chance of giving it to you,” Keanu pushed Y/n’s fingers closed around the necklace, the precious metal cool in her grip, “I don’t know if you’re ready for what I have to give you yet, but I’m willing to wait because you’re worth it Y/n.”
How could she have ever let him go?
“Thank you,” Y/n leaned up to kiss Keanu again, her free hand tangling in his soft hair, humming at the warmth of his palms on her waist.
“I should get going before Ryan catches me making out with his mom,” Keanu chuckled. Finally, Y/n opened the door, “I’ll see you on Saturday,” he waved, jogging down the front steps, rummaging through his pockets for his keys, his Porsche parked in her driveway.
“Actually,” Y/n came to lean on the door frame, folding her arms, “Daniel has Ryan on Wednesday night, you could see me then.”
Keanu’s lips split into a wide, expectant, grin, “Are you sure?”
“I am,” Y/n giggled, for a minute feeling like the girl she was when she and Keanu first met; giddy, excited and eager to be thrilled by his touch.
“Okay,” Keanu nodded, “I’ll pick you up at eight.”
“Okay, goodnight Keanu,” she waved as he bid her goodnight in return, getting into his car, rounding the circular patch of greenery at the center of her cobblestone driveway, headed towards the gate. Only when Y/n could no longer see his car did she shut the door, finally giving the necklace a scrutinizing glace. It really was the same necklace from Greece, though, when she turned it over, Y/n smiled wistfully at the engraving there, tears clouding her gaze and her heart swelling with love.

Turning, Y/n leaned against the door, putting on the necklace. She hooked the clasp and the circular pendant fell in the valley of her cleavage, moving to clutch it tightly as Y/n’s head lolled back against the door, still smiling giddily feeling exactly the way she’d felt when they were together before everything became confusing and out of their control. Before she’d made the mistake of marrying the wrong man and before she’d created someone that she loved above everything else in the world. When she was just a girl with her entire life ahead of her and looking for control in places where she had none. When Keanu was her safe place and the love of her life.
He still was, and Y/n was beyond grateful to have a second chance with him. They could make it work that time, it would take time, but if what had just happened was any indication, there was no amount of time that could weather what Y/n and Keanu shared.
It had taken them a lot to get there, but she’d always have his heart, and he’d always have hers.

“Hi Brett.” Maxwell could tell she was nervous, hoping that she was strong enough to stand her ground and dump the man that had made her life miserable. No one should have to go through what she had been through. She was petrified of the man- afraid to leave him incase he actually killed her next time. Thinking back to the last incident- he had wished that himself and Bertrand had just dragged her out of the States.
Arriving at the hospital, the two brothers had heard from their cousins friend Daniel - a concerned phone call made them immediately catch a flight to New York. Keeping Amber’s identity hidden from those in Cordonia- it didn’t help them at all. If they had informed the royal family about their family member needing their support they had hoped that they would have allowed them to use the royal jet in these types of circumstances. However they chose not to.
“Hey Daniel, thanks for letting us know? Where is she? Is she okay? Where��s that arsehole?”
“Maxwell calm down. Speaking like that isn’t going to help the situation.” Bertrand was furious- but knew how to keep an stoic expression.
“He became jealous, and broke her arm. Left her in the street- witnesses said she screamed ‘you’ve broken my arm- I need to get to hospital.’ He apparently called her stupid- and that she was attention seeking. The two women who brought her in stayed with her and contacted me. When I arrived the staff said that she was shaken up- petrified, they tried to fix her arm by forcing it back into place but it wouldn’t work. She had surgery immediately and it’s fine.”
“Well it’s not too bad then.”
“Bertrand are you fucking crazy? That bastard broke her arm!”
“What I meant to say, it’s not as bad as it was the last time we was here when she was admitted with a traumatic brain injury. It could have been worse. He could have potentially killed her. What have the police said?”
“That’s the bad news. She is refusing to press charges. He has this hold over her, it’s so frustrating. No one can get through to her. We’ve all tried.” Daniel explained sadly, the two brothers knew Amber’s friends were all trying their best to keep her safe. Walking into her room, she looked as if she had seen two ghosts.
“Wh-What are you doing here? I’m fine!”
“Of course you are Amber. When are you going to wake up? He’s dangerous. You need to come back with us.”
“I... I can’t. He said if I ever left him....”

Overhearing Brett shouting down the phone, Maxwell snatched the phone off her- putting it on loudspeaker, forgetting about the other people in the cabin.
“What is your issue you arsehole? Think you’re all big and hard talking to a lady like that?”

Olivia overheard the phone call, gesturing for the others to become mute- they all listened gobsmacked. “Well I thought you and Amber share my bed, Liam and Leo take the spare bed and myself and Maxwell will share the sofa. I’ve drawn the short straw so you should all be grateful.”

“I shall be sleeping with Liam in the spare bed. Whilst we are behind closed doors away from the other bitches I shall be taking this opportunity to stay with Liam. You guys decide what you are doing between you all.”
“Well I agree with you Liv. But I also vote that I share the sofa with Maxwell, ohhh that leaves Drake and Amber in his bed. Great plan guys.” Olivia and Liam spat their drinks out, laughing at Drakes reaction to Leo’s suggestion. No need to thank me Walker, Leo said whilst winking.

“Guys, you can remove your hands. I think there will be a new crown prince or princess on their way sooner rather than later.”

“That was... wow. Incredible. I’m so glad Max and Bertrand brought you here.”
“I’m glad too.” Sharing another kiss they both feel asleep- content in each other’s arm.
“So you slept together then? I heard you two? That’s a relief, I thought I was going crazy!” Drake pulled Amber into his embrace, looking at her adorably. He couldn’t foresee what his future would look like- but this girl had given him hope.
“What you see in him Amber I will never understand. Has he got a big cock or something?”
“That is something that only I will know Duchess. I don’t kiss and tell.”
“Liv, I don’t know what Liam sees in you. But hey, I never questioned it.”
“Touché Walker. Amber do you want to come to Lythikos with me? Leave these lot alone.” Amber looked at Maxwell, who nodded.
“I’ll explain to B. Don’t worry. We’ll see you up there. Liv take her to the boutique when you arrive.” Drake escorted her to the bedroom, he wanted to give her a goodbye kiss away from prying eyes.
“I guess I’ll see you at the ice queens duchy then.”
“Damn right you will.” Kissing her on the lips, he left it lingering- wanting to saviour every second.
“So erm... I’ve been thinking... once the social season is up. How would you feel about going on a date?”
“You want to date me? Let’s avoid fishing though.”
“I Lo- I like you a lot Amber. Deal, no fishing.” Feeling herself blush, she needed to meet Olivia- not that she wanted to after their night together.
“I like you too Drake Walker. See you soon. Don’t keep me waiting.”

It was a warm spring evening in Indianapolis inside the Martin family home , where the eldest daughter Beatrice was preparing to graduate from high school and the youngest daughter Alison was preparing to celebrate one of the most important birthdays in a young women's life. Her sweet sixteen. Alison's mother and sister had been quiet all day causing Alison to believe there'd be a surprise party , half and hour before the family usually sat down for dinner the girls mother mother Katharine entered Alison's bedroom to her find her daughter sketching in her notebook. Katharine took the book from Alison causing her to say "hey" her mother sighed saying "I thought I told you no more of these silly drawings" Alison rolled her eyes saying "but I-" her mother cut her off sayaing "enough buts come down for dinner there'll be a special guest tonight so dress appropriately". Alisosn excitedly nodded thinking that this was her surprise , after her mother left Alison put on her most favorite party dress before taking a look in the mirror to realize something was missing. Alison quietly tiptoed to the end of the hall where Beatrice's bedroom was before knocking on the door , not a moment to soon when Beatrice answered saying "what". Alison responded saying "mom wants us down for dinner and I was wondering if I could borrow a pair of shoes" Beatrice rolled her eyes saying. "No you have enough shoes and I'll be down in a minute" Alison spoke again saying "I know but I thought since it's my birthday and mom says there special guests". Beatrice shook her head saying "no she said a special guest and it's the guy she has replacing dad" Beatrice then slammed the door in Alison's face before Alison walked back to her bedroom to put on the shoes she had purchased last year at the sunpark mall. Alison shrugged aside her sisters words since Beatrice tends to overreact and exaggerate things. When she entered the dinning room there her mother was sitting on one side and her sister sat farther on the other end of the table and besides her mother was an older gentleman who was chuckling at something her mother had said which is odd since Katherine was the least humorous person there ever was. Alison's mother finally acknowledged her presence saying "and Robert this is my daughter Alison she's fifteen". Alison shook her head saying "sixteen I turned sixteen today" the man seated by her mother Robert spoke saying "well happy birthday Alison". Katharine rolled her eyes saying "you should've told me I would've made cake , Alison didn't know what but something just took over her. Something that just made her say what she wanted to say to her mother for a while "well I didn't have to remind you". Her mother's fork hit the table saying "we are trying to have a nice dinner with Robert and you ruining it , go upstairs we'll have ourselves a little talk about this later". Alison huffed before getting up from her spot at the table before walking towards the stairs only before hearing her mother whisper "sometimes I wish she was her sister".

"Alison's pregnant" I chuckled at Matt's words saying "ha ha very funny Matt no but seriously what was up with you" he sighed saying "Y/n I'm serious". I continued to laughing knowing that Matt was just being funny , right. "Y/n" he said before adding "I went to grab something from the bedroom and when I walked in she said it , that's why they left they were probably afraid I'd say something". I felt. My heart drop before Stewart came down the hallway saying "are you okay" I silently nodded before Matt spoke again saying "Y/n I gotta tell you something else"
I sighed saying thinking what on earth he could tell me right now before he spoke saying "dad dosen't want me going to New York until the first week in July so is that okay are you still going cause I could get James to cover for you or-" I cut him off saying "yeah July that's fine" he then added. "Are you okay" I mumbled some incoherent words since I didn't know how I was feeling It wasn't like I couldn't move or talk I just felt so weird , like I couldn't describe it other then weird. After saying my goodbyes to Matt I put the phone back on the receiver before Stewart repeated his words from earlier saying "are you okay". I didn't say a thing I just feel into Stewart's arms before he began to rub my back saying "hey what's going on" I didn't say a word I just cried it felt like that all I was carrying on my shoulders had come crashing down. I knew I had Stewart there for me , he was my first boyfriend since Steve I had gone on a few dates though. Once both a coworker who ended getting caught in the reflection of his spoon , once with a football player in highschool who was more interested in getting in my pants then talking to me oh and of course a date that lasted all of five minutes with Billy Hargrove who ended up getting a better bargain with one of the other lifeguards before running off to California. Stewart was different he actually cared for me , he was sweet and so good with Jackson , he was smart except for failing chem twice. Stewart was just different , he was my best friend and the most amazing person I knew well maybe second to Jackson.
After calming down as much as I could and finally told Stewart he looked at me like I wasn't speaking the same language as him , he finally spoke saying "well is there a way we can view the positive outcome of this". I shrugged as he added "I mean a few hours ago we were celebrating a baby and now-" I cut Stewart off saying "that's different" he responded saying "is it maybe and I'm just thinking out loud here , is it maybe because it's Alison". I shrugged before muttering the word "maybe" he nodded saying "are you gonna be okay" I nodded silently before Stewart pecked my lips before saying "cookies sound good" I nodded before saying "okay call me crazy" he returned from the kitchen with the packet of cookies saying "what is it crazy". I responded saying "I was either seeing things at the party but I swear and Stewart listen to me but i swear that she was drinking a glass of wine". He chuckled as I added "what I'm not crazy" he responded saying "Y/n baby I love you but I think you need to take a deep breath" my jaw feel as did his before he added "you don't need to say it back okay bit that's how I feel" I nodded before he took a seat next to me and pecked his lips before snuggling in his arms.
Steve's P.O.V
It was just hours after Alison told me the news that I had yet to fully process , hours had gone by but to me it felt like it had been years. Alison pretty much barricaded herself in our bedroom the minute we got home. I knew how this happened well I sorta knew since I had Jackson but the math didn't add up we were always careful , and then all the sudden here I am again. What I couldn't wrap my head around was if she knew then why didn't she tell me , why would she hide this from me four three months. I mean Y/n told me right away but it didn't matter what mattered was that I was going to be there for her more then I was for Y/n and no stupid excuses this time. As I sat in the dark quiet kitchen only being pause by the sound of the leaky faucet I felt like the moment played in my head repeatedly and I felt like it wouldn't stop.
***Flashback***
It was when Y/n walked away from me to join Stewart little- I mean Stewart in the backyard that it dawned on me that maybe she did invite me to the baby shower. I remembered but by the time I got out of bed and got ready it would be almost over. I couldn't belive that I just lied but before I could think I felt Alison grab me into one of the bedrooms before saying "what is the matter with you". I responded saying "what" she huffed saying "let's just go already , nobody wants us here" I shook my head saying "but Jackson-" she cut me off saying "is outside with his new dad" I shrugged as she added "oh please if she could she'd go back and have him with Stewart". I rolled my eyes saying "your being ridiculous" she sighed saying "really cause that kid hasn't spoken a word to you but a million to him-" I cut her off saying "Alison what's your point" . Her face went to some puzzled expression before blurting "I'm pregnant" my jaw dropped before turning to see Matt standing in the doorway as white as ghost before he shut the door. "So" Alison said "what are you gonna do" I sighed saying "when did you find out" she them blurted "three months ago". I sighed saying "well when are you due , have you gone to a doctor" she shook her head saying "it's not your business" before I could respond she spoke saying "were leaving now".
***Flashback over ***
I walked back towards our bedroom before knocked on the door before saying "Ali baby can I talk to you" I got no response so I added "I'm really excited , and uh I'm sorry I made you upset and I was thinking that since we have Jackson tomorrow we could him that you know he's gonna be a big-" she cut me off by opening the door saying "no I want this to stay between you and me". I sighed saying "but-" she cut me off saying "no buts Steven and that's final" I nodded before placing a kiss on her lips. Before bending down to reveal her stomach , before I could place my lips on her stomach she quickly backed away saying "what are you doing" I responded saying "showing my baby so love" she shook her head saying "don't that's weird". Before I could respond she shut the door in my face and that's when I started to think was Alison really pregnant ?

Witch Hunt Chapter 10: Phone Calls

The two women stand, facing each other. Yellow’s outstretched hand begins to shake.
“I...I don’t understand,” the blonde says, still staring directly into deep cerulean eyes.
Silky white hair obstructs her vision once more as Blue looks down.
||I don’t understand either. You’re just so nice to me. It makes me feel strange.||
“Strange in what way?” Yellow’s words come out gentle, and her banging heartbeat nearly drowns out Blue’s soft reply.
||Strange like I want to ki...hug you. I like you a lot, Yellow.||
“I like you, too,” she whispers back, taking a step forward.
But Blue moves her own form away, until Yellow can’t see her anymore.
||I should go. Shall we meet again tomorrow?||
Yellow blinks, disturbed by Blue’s departure, but comforted by her promise of return. “Have a good evening!” she calls.
Then she walks to her bedroom, flopping down on her bed. “This is a mess,” she mutters to herself, before picking up her phone.
She scrolls through her contacts, past the names of her students and some of their parents, until she finds the name of one of her best friends. She hits call.
While she’s listening to the ringing, she begins to pace. Her heart begins to sink after one ring, she doesn’t think she will have the courage to call again.
“Hey, what’s up?”
Yellow sighs in relief. “Hey, Jasper. I kind of need some advice.”
Jasper grunts in amusement, a gravelly sound. “Yeah, okay. Shoot.”
The blonde takes a deep breath, to settle her pounding heart. “I think I like someone. And it’s really complicated.” The words come out so quickly, they’re nearly slurred together.
“Whoa, slow down, Yellow. Who is this guy?”
A blush creeps on her pale face, and she’s glad that no one was around to see. “It’s actually a woman,” she chokes out gruffly.
“Yeah...okay.” Jasper’s voice is unsure. Yellow can feel her heart sinking in regret.
“Um, and she’s...she’s like a spirit. You know, the girl I told you about a few weeks ago? Well, she’s like my only friend out here, and I think I might like her.”
When Jasper fails to respond, Yellow rushes on, nervously trying to cover the silence. “And Connie and I are going to find the witch to get her body back. I know it sounds strange, but she’s a really nice person and I just want to see her and talk to her all the time. I think I really like her, and if we get her body back, maybe we could, I don’t know, date?”
“This all sounds kind of weird.” Jasper says finally.
“I know.”
“I don’t know. Maybe you need to get out more. There’s got to be some normal people out there to date. And go punch something for stars sake! You sound like you need to clear your head.”
Jasper’s gravelly voice pierces Yellow’s heart. “I...You’re right. I just, I don’t know how to get her out of my head. She’s got such a pretty voice, and she’s so nice, you know? I can’t stop thinking about her.”
“A few of us are going to have a sparring match this weekend. You should come. Clear your head.”
Yellow sighs. Jasper wasn’t the most emotionally available person to talk to. Deep down, she knew that her feelings for the spirit were strange, but she needed someone to talk to.
“I’ll think about it.”
“Good.”
As she’s opening her mouth to say goodbye, Yellow is surprised when her friend’s voice suddenly turns softer.
“And call Pearl okay? I’m not good with this stuff.”
Suddenly the other woman’s harsh words seemed less cutting. A smile pulls on her lips as she speaks, “Alright, will do. Thanks for listening, Jasper.”
She stares at her phone for a moment. That was a complete failure, she thinks, maybe I shouldn’t call Pearl…
But then an ache strikes her heart, and she knows she needs to talk about this. Her heart races, and she jumps up from the bed to pace.
Pearl answers after the first ring. “Yellow! How are you?”
Yellow smiles at her bright voice. “I’m okay, how are you?”
“Good!”
There’s a pause, as Yellow thinks about the right words to say. “Have you ever liked someone?”
“Yeah, of course,” says Pearl, no traces of surprise in her voice as she continues, “I actually asked this model I met at a shoot out last week. We’re going on a date next week! Why do you ask?”
Yellow relaxes. Pearl was a much more open person to talk to. “Oh that’s great! I hope it goes well--”
“Yellow, do you like someone?” Pearl’s voice interrupts.
“Um...I mean--”
“Who is it?!”
A smile threatens to break across Yellow’s face. She sits on the bed and feels her body relax as she begins to speak. “Do you remember the ghost I told you about?”
“Azurea? Yeah, I remember her. Oh my stars, Yellow, do you like this mysterious woman?” Pearl nearly yells, her voice rising in excitement.
“Well, yes, sort of. It’s a little complicated, and I know it’s a little weird. Especially since Blue--Azurea’s a spirit and all…but Connie and I are going to try to get her body back, she did some research about the witch who took it.”
“Oh my stars,” Pearl repeats, and Yellow can practically hear her eyes glistening. “Yellow this is so cute! You’re going to go on this magical quest to get your love’s body back from an evil witch. That’s so romantic! You’re like her brave knight!”
A blush creeps across Yellow’s pale cheeks as she listens to her friend excitedly speculate. “I mean, it’s not like that. I just want her to be happy, and she’s so lonely now because she can’t really talk to anyone.”
“Stop it. You are so smitten!” Pearl laughs. “Just promise me that you’ll bring her around to meet us when she gets her body back?”
“I will, but Pearl, don’t you think that this is a little strange?” Yellow asks, still unsure after her conversation with Jasper.
“What do you mean?” The complete lack of judgment in Pearl’s voice gives Yellow the push she needs to voice her fears.
“Isn’t it a little strange that the first person I like, I mean really like, is a ghost? I mean she’s not a ghost, but she’s a spirit. Without a body. And she has no idea how to live in modern civilization and I don’t even know if we’ll be able to get her body back.” The blonde jumps off the bed to pace around again. Her still racing heart beats stronger as she quickly walks.
“I don’t think so. You had a rough childhood, and I know romance must have been the last thing on your mind. You can’t help liking who you like, and she does sound lovely.”
“She is lovely. But you really don’t think it’s strange? Jasper seemed to think it was really weird.”
“Oh you know Jasper. She’s not good at this kind of stuff. It’s a little unconventional, which I’m sure she pointed out, but it’s not so weird.”
Yellow’s pacing slows slightly as she listens to her friend. “Thank you, Pearl,” she says earnestly, feeling her chest swell.
“Of course! I’m happy to help with anything you need. Don’t forget that,” Pearl says. After a moment of silence, she asks, “What does she think of it all?”
“Who, Blue?”
“Yes, what does she think about this? Have you told her how you feel?”
“No.” Yellow’s pacing resumes its quick tempo.
“Why not? Oh Yellow, why do you always keep your emotions to yourself? I think you’d feel a lot better if you told her how you feel.”
“It’s not that simple. I don’t want to scare her off,” Yellow said slowly, “and I don’t really think she has any experience with stuff like this. She did say I made her feel funny, though. Before she left.”
“That sounds like a good sign! Just tell her how you feel! It might even make her feel better about her feelings. I can help you think of what to say, if you’d like.”
Yellow smiles. “No, it’s okay. I need to think about this, I think.”
“Alright, well I’m only a call or text away.”
“Thank you, Pearl.”
After the two exchange some more pleasantries, Yellow hangs up, feeling much lighter than before. But as she gets ready for bed, Blue’s silky white hair floats through her mind as she washes out her hair gel. And the phantom’s slender fingers creep through her thoughts as she brushes her teeth.
As she’s laying in bed, about to drift to sleep, she makes up her mind to tell the woman about her crush.
It won’t be so bad. I’ll just make sure she knows that she doesn’t have to do anything about it. It’s just feelings. It’ll be okay.

7x13: The Slice Girls
Welcome to our last episode before hiatus is over. We’re knocking out another Buckleming episode. Natasha has some strong words at the end. Buckleming are the worst.

Oh, yeah, Bobby died, and I never watched that episode again
Now:
A white man™ sits quietly at his computer at home one night. He hears a noise and suddenly he’s getting sliced and diced in good old cold open fashion.

Sam and Dean are on the road. Sam’s driving so Dean can indulge in his “coping through season 7 juice”. He saved Bobby’s flask and we all know ghosts can’t inhabit personal items, *cough* *cough*. Anyway, Dean’s drinking his way through his grief and Sam’s working cases his way through his grief. 
They head to the coroner that holds the cold open victim. AND, I’m sorry, but is Dean flirting with the coroner? I rarely rewatch Buckleming so when I find these forgotten moments in the wild I’m taken aback. I thought I knew the full extent of Dean’s little world, but wow, apparently not.

They learn that all the victims are male and there’s weird ritualistic mutilation with the bodies after they are dead. And any DNA from potential suspects doesn’t match anything human. 
After the morgue, Sam wants to do more research, and Dean needs to blow off some steam. He decides to go undercover. 
Later at a bar (It’s a fancy bar and Dean’s wearing his suit, so not like Dean), he chitchats with a woman (he’s an investment banker who speaks minimal Japanese) and she’s into it so she invites him back to her place.

While Dean works through his coroner frustration, the show intercuts it with another man’s murder. Bravo on the editing. 
The next morning, the brothers head to the latest crime scene. Dean asks Sam if he made any headway on the symbol. “We’re gonna need an expert.” “Expert? Our expert’s dead.” OMG. OUCH.

At the crime scene, a friend of the victim’s stops by and Sam asks him some questions. It turns out the victim cheated on his wife a couple nights prior. The neighbor insists the wife wouldn’t have harmed her husband though. Also, whoever has been killing these men were big and strong.
It’s at this moment that Dean realizes that he forgot his flask at Lydia’s (his workout buddy from the prior night). He calls her but she hasn’t seen the flask and she hangs up.

She’s pretty busy at the moment --being really pregnant! 
Cut to later at a very dangerous birthing session (way too many candles), Lydia is told that the “pain is an honor” and I’m not a mother but that is SOME bullshit there. Anyway, she has a healthy 3-4 month old baby she’s told to name Emma. 
Sam and Dean head to interview the mayor of Sunnydale a professor with some knowledge on the sigil carved on the men. He wants money before he’ll talk. They pull the FBI card and tell him that they’ll put in a good word with the IRS and they want answers by tomorrow.

Dean is missing Bobby after that little exchange so he decides to head to Lydia’s to get his flask.
Lydia’s surprised to see him. Dean really needs that flask. She goes to get it and he follows her inside. He finds a baby (at least 12 months old?) and Lydia admits that it’s hers. Dean Bean goes into the room to see the baby closer (brb, off to read a few hundred domestic Destiel AUs to fill this giant hole my heart.) 
Dean’s phone rings and it’s Sam. While he’s on the phone with him, Dean hears the baby and Lydia talk. Uh…
Sam heads to inspect the latest vic alone. He finds out a lot of the victims visited the same bar Dean was at a couple nights ago. 
Dean’s staking out Lydia’s place, and watches as the women present at Emma’s birth arrive.

Sam calls and gives him grief for obsessing over the woman. Dean thinks there’s something strange going on and he’ll tell Sam when he figures it out. Sam tells him about the bar but Dean hangs up on him as Lydia’s door opens again. The women all emerge with what appears to be a 8 year old girl. Dean can’t believe what he’s seeing. “I hate when this happens.” Yes, fathering a monster baby is a bitch, Dean. He follows the women into a back alley warehouse. 
Dean prowls down an alley, following the car full of women. (Hey, that sentence came out really creepy.) The women disappear into an unmarked building.
Later, Dean briefs Sam on the situation. There was nothing that screamed “baby” to him when he was at Lydia’s earlier. Now, Emma’s an elementary-school-aged kid, to all appearances. He’s suspicious.

Sam thoroughly mocks Dean for feeling like something’s off with Lydia and Emma. The professor calls, interrupting their conversation. He’s got info!
At their mysterious destination, five young (but slightly older) girls are offered pieces of raw (presumably) human meat and big ol’ glasses of milk. Yum! They’re instructed to complete their “blood missions.” Emma is hesitant to eat the meat. (And who can blame her? Blech.)
At the university, the “I’m super busy don’t talk to me” professor has managed to create a whole slideshow for the boys, who settle into one of the middle rows to watch.

The symbol is Greek. It’s a combination that symbolizes Harmonia and Eres, a goddess and god who begat the Amazons. The professor disparages the cartoon version of Amazons: Wonder Woman (them’s fightin’ words!). He describes Amazons as having little use for men. They procreate, then kill the male, cutting off several body parts.

Elsewhere, the head detective holds a hissing phone call with the head Amazon. It turns out that they’re buddies. They know that Dean and Sam are giant fakers and more than that, they suspect they’re hunters. 
Back at their current hotel HQ, Dean digs through Bobby’s dusty old books and drinks from his flask. Sam info-dumps more lore. The Amazons were nearly decimated and bargained for Harmonia’s gift to grow their ranks. She made it so they mate, give birth in a few days, and then the child is mature in just a handful more. Dean realizes that he’s now a father, just as Sam grasps that as well. Use birth control, kids!
Back with the Amazons in training, they’re lectured about joining the ranks of the other women and branded with the symbol on their wrist.

Sam summarizes all their victims as rich, successful businessmen - perfect for the Amazons’ gene pool. (REALLY is that the mark of “good” DNA? Really??? Fuck that. There’s so much wrong here I could write a whole damn book on it.) Sam wants to know why Dean got picked. Dean confesses that he pretended to be an investment banker. While Sam judges Dean heavily, papers move mysteriously in the room, exposing a single sheet. Sam pulls out the EMF and it wails at him. Skeptic Sammy points out power lines and a breezy window. Dean thinks it’s Bobby’s ghost. 
Sam picks up the exposed paper, written in Greek, and brings it to the professor to read. Meanwhile, Dean stays where he is, holed up in their room when there’s a knock on the door. It’s Emma! She tells him that she needs his help and that she knows she can trust him because he’s her father. 
Dean’s on guard, but Emma says that she was trapped with the rest of the Amazons and ordered to do terrible things. There are tears in her eyes as she describes getting branded. Dean quietly lets her in.

Emma asks for Dean’s help to leave town. “I know you don’t want me,” she tells him. (I throw a rotten banana at the screen. How DARE this show.) She begs for his help in finding normalcy. 
The professor - who is doing some really LATE office hours - excitedly tells Sam that the Amazon child is meant to kill the father, not the mothers.

As Sam leaves the university, the detective from earlier stops him with a single, very strong hand. He notices her Amazon brand and she calls him by name - she knows she’s a hunter. She hurls Sam down the stairs and pulls out a sword, but Sam whips out his gun and shoots her in the chest before she can kill him. So apparently a bullet works just fine.
Emma continues to make a case for freedom. When she says she’s hungry, Dean heads over to check out the fridge.

Emma pulls out her Amazon blade while Dean’s back is turned and Dean whirls around and confronts her with a gun. Emma argues that it’s her place to kill him. Furthermore, she calls Dean on his hesitation - he won’t kill her. “You haven’t killed anybody yet, Emma. Walk away,” Dean pleads. 
Emma says she doesn’t have a choice just before Sam breaks in and points a gun at Emma. She flashes him a shine of smug monster-face before pleading with Dean, one more time, to help her. Sam shoots her and kills her while Dean looks on in horror. 
A little while later, Dean and Sam sneak into the old building Dean tracked the Amazons to. It’s abandoned.

They drive away to the next case. Dean acts optimistic: they’ll find those sneaky Amazons and kill ‘em dead next time. Instead of rallying, Sam goes off on Dean, shouting at him about his hesitation in killing Emma. “She was not yours. Not really.” 
Dean smiles mirthlessly. She was his child, even if she wasn’t his daughter. 
Sam (in a thoroughly OOC way, in my opinion) blows right past this enormous minefield of emotion to tell Dean that he’s off his game. First losing Cas, then Bobby have sent Dean into a tailspin. Sam caps off his inspiring speech with “Don’t get killed.” Thanks, Sam. Good talk.
Natasha: Hi, hello, I HATE this episode. Dean’s lost Cas and Bobby and then this show has the GALL to lob a child at Dean and then CHIDE HIM for not wanting to kill her. Meanwhile, Sam belittles Dean’s hesitation and parallels it to the necessity of his friend Amy’s death. Do you know how dirty and awful I feel every time I think about Amy’s death? DO YOU? And she’d actually killed multiple people by then. We never talk about that one time Dean accidentally fathered a child and Sam killed her mid-conversation, and I can only assume this remains a deep and terrible scar on their souls. I’d forgotten the “breeding” detail but that paired with casting choices make this episode a big pile of YUCK for me.
