I know it's insanely gauche to jump in someone's notifications for some random ass post they made so im, like, sorry in advance but. I really dont think we're allowed to suppose that there's a 1 in a million chance that fairies exist as one of our priors. I think that number is a very, very, very large overestimation of the likelihood that faries exist
Personally I felt the worst about making the blind assertion that a random person at the front door is equally likely to be from any extant ethnic group. Surely that's worse demographics?

The Chemical Structure of Redstone
So I was curious about what the chemical structure of Redstone looks like, and Minecraft Education Edition, albeit unintentionally, gives us a canon look into what Redstone is made of:
Tumblr media
In Minecraft Education Edition, putting a Redstone Block into a Material Reducer shows that it's composed of 31 Carbon, 31 Uranium, and 38 Unobtanium, which we can assume to be measured in grams
Dividing the Redstone Block into Redstone Dust, each Redstone Dust is then composed of approximately 3.4 Carbon, 3.4 Uranium, and 4.2 Unobtanium
Again assuming that's measured in grams, that's 0.17 cm³ of Uranium, 1.496 cm³ of Carbon, and ???³ of Unobtanium per Redstone Dust
So what does this tell us about the chemical structure of Redstone? Basing this on Redstone Dust's composition, we can estimate that each Redstone molecule is composed of 3 Carbon atoms, 3 Uranium atoms, 4 Unobtanium atoms, a little under half of the time it binds to an extra Uranium and/or Carbon, and 20% of the time it binds to an extra Unobtanium
This also has some horrifying implications for how Redstone works:
Redstone would be extremely volatile as the radioactive decay from Unobtanium and Uranium would occasionally release Helium ions through alpha radiation, sometimes breaking apart Carbon into two Beryllium atoms (as it absorbs the extra proton and neutron from the Uranium) or merging into Oxygen
So Redstone should, in theory, be extremely flammable and potentially explosive, which implies that cave static, or the player mining Redstone with an Iron Pickaxe, could lead to a spark that causes an explosive cave-in
As Unobtanium is just a placeholder for unobtainable elements (hence the name), I'm going to estimate Unobtanium in this case as Unbinilium, the placeholder name for element 120
Why?
Tumblr media
I'm estimating the Unobtanium as Redstone as being larger than the largest man-made element, Oganesson, which holds an impressive 118 protons
Each valence electron shell, from innermost to outermost, can bind with 2, 8, 18, 32, 32, 18, and 8 shells respectively, so I'd like Unobtanium to be an element we haven't discovered yet, and consequently I'd like to jump up to the next shell
While I could estimate with element 119's placeholder, Ununennium, it would have one electron in the next shell, so Unbinilium allows for easier chemical binding
So what does this molecule look like then? Well, horrifyingly...
Tumblr media
It looks like this. As Redstone forms in crystal lattices, and only two Carbon atoms are free to bind, I can absolutely see why it's so brittle that it breaks into powder.
This makes the structure of Redstone:
C3U3Uno4 (55% of molecules) C4U3Uno4 (13% of molecules) C3U4Uno4 (13% of molecules) C4U4Uno4 (7% of molecules) C3U3Uno5 (5% of molecules) C4U3Uno5 (3% of molecules) C3U4Uno5 (3% of molecules) C4U4Uno5 (1% of molecules)
An extremely radioactive, flammable, and explosive compound.

44, 44, and… 44?
(I like facts)
44. RANDOM FACT ×3 COMBO
The rarest human hair/eye colour combination is Red Hair/Blue Eyes, because genes for both are recessive. The odds of a person posessing these genes presenting both at once is approximately 0.17%.
There are snakelike reptiles called Legless Lizards who lost their legs in a separate evolutionary path from snakes. While they look remarkably similar, one notable difference is that legless lizards have eyelids, while snakes do not.
The language spoken by the Himba peoples of Namibia has multiple words to describe various shades of green, but no word differentiating blue. As a result, the Himbas have difficulty differentiating between colours English speakers perceive to be completely distinct.

I got a bee in my bonnet and spent last night crunching these numbers to confirm a long-held suspicion of mine, and now I'm going to do something with them even if it's only interesting to me. So.
I went through and tallied up all of the fics AO3 currently (as of 3/27/24) has under the tags "Trans Tim Drake," "Nonbinary Tim Drake," "Genderfluid Tim Drake" and "Genderqueer Tim Drake," since I figured that cast a wide enough net without committing myself to reading every fic vaguely tagged Trans Character to figure out which character they were talking about.
I then did the same for Dick, Jason, Damian and Bruce and, after comparing those numbers against each other and against the total number of fics each character has under their general tag, followed up with Duke, Babs, Cass, Steph and Kate, and then Kon, Cassie, and Bart for good measure.
The results confirm the suspicions I was going into check and are really interesting, to me at least:
Despite having far fewer stories overall than Jason, Bruce or Dick, Tim has by far the most stories tagging him under the trans umbrella (653 out of 58,395) and is the only member of the Bats for whom at least one full percent of his stories fall under that category (1.12% to be exact.) He actually has more total trans stories than Jason and Damian combined (308 out of 71,120 and 255 out of 42,607, equaling 0.43% and 0.59%, respectively) and outstretches the 2nd place ranker, Dick, by over a hundred (who clocks in at 438 out of 79,057 -- 0.55%). Bruce amusingly has by far the most stories overall (90,305) but the fewest trans stories (185) for the lowest percentage among the boys (0.2%).
The only one who comes anywhere close to matching Tim percentage-wise is Bart, who has far fewer stories to his name but a ratio of 62 out of 5,717 for 1.08%. I was thinking maybe Young Justice might have a higher percentage than the Bats due to their strong queer fandom but that only really proved true for Bart, with both Cassie and Kon coming in at only 0.2% and 0.28% trans umbrella percentage respectively (actual count 6 out of 2,874 and 39 out of 13,746).
Cassie's numbers correspond with the fact that women just, do not get a lot of these stories, at all, even compared to the general lack of attention they're paid by fanfiction spheres in general. Steph and Kate both clocked in at falling 0.17% under the trans umbrella (29 out of 16,638 for Steph, 5 out of 2,897 for Kate); Cass got 0.13% (21 out of 15,769) and Babs only 0.07%, the lowest percentage out of anyone I calculated for (11 out of 15,785). Duke's showing was a respectable 0.55% (34 out of 6,166) which puts him about even with the rest of the boys.
All of which I just went through to confirm a gut instinct I've had for a while: even in light of the noticeable trend in fandom towards increased visibility for trans and other queer-gendered people over the last decade and a half or so, it's a notable Thing for the DC comics fandom to explore with Tim Drake in specific.
And that doesn't even take into account things like the over 200 "Tim Drake is Catlad | Stray" fics, which almost always have some element of queered gender or at least femme'd sexuality to them, far outstripping any of the other Robin boys' spins in that AU (those counts stand at, respectively: Damian - 11, Dick - 33, Jason - 79, Tim - 242). Or the 11 fics logged under the "Tim Drake is Batgirl" tag, a category that doesn't even exist for any of the other male Robins.
(What makes that last one extra hilarious to me that most people don't know one canonical version of Tim has been a member of the Batgirls.) Part of me wants to use that parenthetic detail as a segway to ramble about the various canon snippets I think probably contributed to this, from Tim being presented as "the pretty one" who most often gets the "looks like his mother" comments to the fact that he is the only male Robin who's ever cross-dressed for an undercover mission and even though it only happened once the Internet will never forget Caroline Hill.
But this post is long enough as it is and I don't really have a point beyond I think this is interesting and cool so I'm going to leave off here for now and put my numbers under a cut so people have the raw data to look at if they'd like to.
TL;DR - Based on the numbers, the internet believes Tim Drake is more likely to be trans than any other member of the Bat-family or Young Justice, and I think that has interesting implications about his character and fandom. It's neat.

The Cold Hearted Amateur Economist Studying the Annual Budget ($113.4 million proposed 2023) for the Chicago Public Library to state "This Is a Stupidly Great Deal."
I am not a professional economist.
To be clear, and to start with, I do not run economic data for real world scenarios for clients or governments or any institutions.
I do run fantasy economic models for fantasy worlds (elves, dwarves, dragons, etc.) for private clients (nerds with more cash than time).
But to be clear I am not a real world economist. So there will be variables I don't know/care about.
The Chicago (hi, I live in Chicago) public library proposed budget
for 2023 is
$113,400,000
(source)
Which is a lot of money, objectively speaking, when you look at it as an annual price tag of "I need $113,400,000. For, um, this year. Next year it'll be more."
Tumblr media
In addition to being an amateur economist, as I call myself, because I deal exclusively in fantasy-world economics exclusively
I was a professional graphic designer for many years and have dealt with charts, graphs, information displays, etc.
for a really long time
Tumblr media
From the above source, 24.3% (about $27,556,200) is provided by grants, leaving 75.7% (about $85,843,800) to raise.
Still a big chunk of cash.
Damn near $86 million bucks.
That would buy so many zines.
Is it worth it?! LET'S GO BACK TO "I WAS A FORMER GRAPHIC DESIGNER" and dealt with charts and things, a lot, to raise cash for weird projects, a lot.
$85,843,800 (above figure to raise) divided by 365 (sorry leap year, we're being un-generous) is $235,188.49 a day.
Nearly. A quarter. Million dollars. A day.
Wow.
But wait...
Tumblr media
...there is more than one person living in Chicago.
Which means that it is NOT a daily bill to ONE person for $235,188.49. It is a daily bill for for 1/2,665,039 PEOPLE, given the city's population.
(source)
To be fair, not everyone pays taxes, for a variety of reasons.
Since I'm not a professional economist, let's be brutally unfair and guess only 1/3 of the city pays taxes. It's far more than that, but, yknow...
...amateur economist privilege.
2,665,039 x 0.33 = 879,462.87... we'll... just round... up... this isn't SAW.
Tumblr media
FUN FACT, though! You can borrow SAW from the Chicago Public Library for $0.00!
Tumblr media
Resuming the point!
Daily bill of $235,188.49 sent to a collective of 879,463 people whom paying taxes to fund the library using the above math.
(Folks astute in math are going to immediately get my end point that this is cheap)
$235,188.49 (daily budget) divided by 879,463 (people)
is...
Tumblr media
$0.26742283643 or rounded up
$0.27 per day.
The Chicago Public Library costs less than $0.30 per day per tax payer to cover the entire city.
Less. Than $0.30. Per day. Per tax payer.
Tumblr media
...wow.
You can do similar math by checking your local library's budget and comparing it to your local population and being as ungenerous, or more specific if you wish to get a closer-to-accurate number, when comparing tax payers.
If you want to say "1 out of every 3 people paying taxes is too high" (it's not, but let's just say it is for the sake of furthering my point of "the library is an intensely great deal) and instead... say...
Tumblr media
1 out of every 5 people pay taxes
because you want to be a contrarian for whatever personal reasons
1/5 = 20%, 20% of 2,665,039 people is 533,008 (rounded up, per above SAW rules)
$235,188.49 (daily budget) divided by 533,008 (people in this ultra contrarian numbers formula) is $0.44124757977, or, $0.44 per day per tax payer.
Using 1/3 as a tax payer base is extremely low. It's easier math. I chose it to make a point.
Pushing it further to 1/5 as a tax payer base raises the daily cost by ($0.44-0.27) $0.17.
Use your local library. Your literal pocket change pays for it.
This is a "I love the library" post sponsored by the library research I am doing for a private client and work that'll be used for future Netherworld Post releases.

Some things noticed on a DFF rewatch
Just some things that stood out rewatching and chatting with folks!
Tumblr media
When we see the knife in the opening, someone puts it in a backpack. The bag is brown on top, and the front has red, a white strip and a star backed with blue
Tumblr media
This is the same backpack Non wears in the past. So is this just part of the clip show or is it giving us a hint? Will Non use the knife in the past and it's reappeared in the present because they're re-enacting things in a way? Or does this mean Non is involved in the present?
Tumblr media
In this post I discussed how Keng the math teacher is not so great at teaching math (via my roommate's math expertise). The answer 1/7 isn't correct, and it's something an online math tool can solve pretty easily so perhaps this is intentional.
Tumblr media
Tee's jacket has 0.17 on it. So between our bad math and this, are the numbers 1 and 7 important? If so are they more symbolic or plot relevant (I'm guessing the former)? 1 and 7 do add up to 8...
Tumblr media
Everyone is accounted for when Top and Tee first see Masky in the woods (everyone else is helping Por) and when Por initially gets chased. However, after Top is attacked in the bathroom Tan and Fluke aren't around. Fluke is with Por, White, and Phi before they hear the commotion. But Phi just says Tan went up stairs to sleep a while ago.
Does this mean Tan was the one attacking Top? If so, he can't be doing it alone since other times everyone is accounted for. Like some other folks have theorized, if it's not supernatural (still not ruling that out) it's likely there's a 9th person involved. Does Tan attack inside the house while our 9th person mostly operates outside?
Tumblr media
If we go with the theory that there's hallucinations happening, there's a lot of ways the boys could've gotten them in their systems. Smoke, in their drinks, in the food or water. In the same closet that White finds the knife, he looks at this bottle. To me it looks like a liquid medicine prescription bottle. Liquid would be very easy to mix into things. Then again, perhaps it's Non's and in the past they hid it from him or something.
Tumblr media
One more theory about the hallucinations. What if it has to do with sound. From a cursory search it does seem that there's some research showing that some infrasound can cause hallucinations and some argue this might be one explanation for why people feel they're being haunted. From what I found (again very cursory research), infrasound can be heard if it's sufficiently loud. I doubt it would be recorded or sound like what they heard from the recording here in real life. But it's possible we could have a fictionalized take on this here.
Tumblr media
Why was the knife left so in the open? Yes it was in a closet but it still seems very staged. Similarly, why cut Por? My first thought is that the person chasing Por didn't plan to impale him. And of course that could just look like an accident. The knife cuts make sure the group knows there's the possibility of someone physically attacking Por. The knife then shows up at the point where Top and Tee are convinced it must be supernatural. It kind of seems like someone wants them to know it's a real person. And of course Phi is also very insistent on this.
Could this mean that Phi's plan was to have them know it was a person? Or does is it just to make them even more panicked and confused? If the former is the case, the hallucinations and/or supernatural appearances aren't in the plan. That could mean that someone or something else is doing things and perhaps working at cross purposes from Phi (still trying to harm them but not how Phi wants to or planned for)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
At the start of episode 1, Por tells the Janta story and says that his Dad told him it. But in episode 5 it seems like Non comes up with the idea. So is this Por claiming credit again? If so that could mean that the cult doesn't actually exist and just was an idea Non put in the script that Por is playing on. On the other hand, Non could've done his research knowing they wanted to film at Por's vacation home. So does/did the cult exist or not? Or at the very least did the stories of Janta and the cult exist and were they attached to the area around Por's cabin before they did this film?
Tumblr media
Mr Math has on his desk which I believe is of Pythagoras. Now according to my math nerd of a roommate, Pythagoras also started a cult called Pythagoreanism. It's quite the stretch, and I imagine the production just put the photo there to show he is into math, but what if Keng is related to the cult (if it really exists)? I think we're getting into clown connections here, but it's fun to speculate. Especially since it's entirely possible that what Jin saw in the temple was an alive Keng. If Keng is part of the cult perhaps they're aiding Non and/or Phi for some reason 🤡
Alrighty just some thoughts for now fellow DFFers! It's fun to pitch theories, both the more grounded and the much less substantiated 😆
