Remus and The Pureblood Problems
Something just a bit smaller to end February out, I had an idea and I really wanted to roll with it. The gang meeting on the train and becoming friends, though there’s some complications and feelings there too.
[Also some discussion of blood purity, so if that feels weird to you then don’t read it]
Sirius uses they/them pronouns, also fuck jkr, don’t give her your money, she has stated before that she will use it to support transphobia. Plus the game’s antisemitic and this has been discussed by multiple people on multiple occasions.
It uses Infatuated/Feeling/Adore/Cherish/Euphoria/Cute prompts for @wolfstarmicrofic

ONTO THE STORY.
Prior to going to Hogwarts, Remus’ father had done his best to tell Remus who to avoid, which was basically everyone.
“You’re a halfblood, some may call you a mudblood even, don’t get angry over it. Don’t let your anger spike over any of it, if you want to stay there, then you need to calm yourself. Stay quiet, stay unnoticed. Wouldn’t want anyone to suspect you’re a beast,” Lyall warned him the night before, sitting in his room with the majority of his things packed up.
“Avoid the purebloods where you can, especially the slytherin purebloods.”
Remus nodded, and soon after he couldn’t nod off to sleep. He layed in bed, staring at the ceiling, feeling far more worried for what would come next instead of the excitement that his mother expected. Or the sense of gratitude that his father expected. Then again, by this point he was used to not living up to his father’s expectations.
Now Remus was in the train station, walking away from his teary eyed mother and cold stoic father, into the unknown. The unknown just happens to be a bright red train.
He got there just a bit later than he would have liked to, he wished he could have scoped it out in advance, find an empty compartment so he could keep to himself, so if anyone were to ask to join him it would be his decision rather than his having to beg to join someone else. He wandered the halls, all the compartments had other kids already there. One compartment, he felt tingles being around, and not in a fun way. In the: someone’s pricking you with a million sewing needles way, in a burning way, in a…silver way. And looking in the window, there was in fact a person wearing a bright silver pureblood pin. Shining. Shining almost as much as the face of the kid wearing it. Almost immediately, Remus was a bit infatuated. But he shouldn’t. After a moment, he realized just how long he had been standing and staring at the boys already there, so he started moving along.
Guess I’ll just wander for the whole ride. Won’t be too bad.
Until he heard.
“Hey!”
He kept walking.
“Hey, dude! Dude with the brown hair!”
No, no, don’t mean me, no. Remus was mortified.
But the other boy was running up to him as Remus had started quickening his pace.
“Hi, I’m James, do you want to sit with us?”
“I shouldn’t,” Remus looked at the boy, not the same person he was infatuated with, but if any of them noticed Remus’ staring then he would not ever in a million years be able to live that down.
“The other compartments look close to full, we have room.”
“I really shouldn’t.”
“Why not?”
Remus turned around and started walking again, I can’t say, I can’t tell him about…I can’t. I wouldn’t ever get to go to Hogwarts, and Da would kill me if I came home after 2 hours at a school he’s worked months to get me in.
“Is it about my friend? With his stupid pureblood pin? We don’t care if you’re not.”
Remus stopped, here’s your excuse, here’s your fallback, just act like the silver doesn’t matter, “You’re sure you guys don’t care.”
“None of us do, or at least I don’t, and if any of the other boys do then I’ll kick them out.”
“So you’re the leader now?” Remus smiled.
“I’ll allow for a vote, the options are me, me, James Potter, me, this other annoying bastard who you really wouldn’t want to vote for named Sirius, me, oh and don’t forget me, this guy named Peter but he’s not all that sirius about running, and you mustn’t forget that I am running for this election and me and my team could really use the votes.”
“What about a co-leader?” Remus asked as they walked back to the compartment.
“Who’s running for office?”
“A little known guy, name’s Remus.”
“I’d vote for him.”
“So, we have an agreement?” Remus asked.
“An agreement,” James and Remus shook hands, and then entered the compartment.
“Through a totally and utterly fair and balanced election, me–James Potter–and our new friend–Remus–are now the co-leaders of our little group,” James announced to the other boys, who were now staring at the straggler James had brought in.
“When was the election?!?” an outraged and slightly chubby boy asked.
“In the hall,” James answered.
“And why weren’t Sirius and I a part of it?” the boy who’s seemingly named Peter, continued to question.
“You weren’t out in the hall, gotta be in the right place at the right time if you want power in this world, Petey, my boy,” James patted him on the shoulder, “you could be the secretary, or the foreign minister.”
“Who would be the foreigners?”
“Anyone not in our group–”
Remus stopped listening to their conversation as he started to realize the person across from him staring, with something that looked like it may be fondness in their eyes. Though Remus didn’t want to get his hopes up, especially not a pureblood heartthrob with gorgeous hair who just happens to be wearing silver, that’s actively making Remus feel a bit nauseous. Or maybe it’s all the feelings of adoration for a random dude that’s making Remus nauseous. Either way he’s feeling queasy, at least he can blame it on motion sickness.
As the car shook and he bumped into the wall, Remus was taken out of his trance, thank Merlin.
“So, let me get this straight–”Remus started, but a little bit of his hearing, his stupid but glorious wolfish hearing, heard the worst joke, some of the worst words ever spoken. Yet also the best words. Words Remus would cherish.
“I’m not…anymore,” Sirius muttered in a low tone, covering their mouth with their hand.
Not getting caught up in the euphoria, not this time, Remus continued his speaking, “So that’s Peter,” he pointed to the questioning boy from earlier, “and that’s Sirius,” he pointed to the queer cute person with long black hair.
“And I’m James,” James added.
“Yeah, but I met you already,” Remus rolled his eyes.
“I’m important too,” offended, James put his hand to his chest as he scoffed.
“Not as important as me,” Sirius grinned, sarcastically.
“Oh, because you’re a pureblood?” Remus asked, “like a dog?”
All the blood in Sirius’ face drained, going somehow whiter than it was before, paler than a sheet ghost.
“Well…I mean, I’m a pureblood too,” James coughed, awkwardly.
“So am I,” Peter bit his lip, and then looked up at Remus, “then again, I’m not a part of the most noble and ancient House of Black.”
Remus’ eyebrows quirked up in confusion.
“Look, I rescind my statement, I rescind it. I’m the same as the rest of you,” Sirius started taking off the pin, “if not worse,” and they grinned what would later be called that Sirius Black grin, as they placed the pin in their pocket.
Remus felt a pinch of relief, like a small wave waiting for the ocean to follow it.

Prompt: Trans Remus (wolfstar)
Remus watched as Sirius entered their dorm and flopped down next to him on the bed. This was getting more and more normal with every passing day. The feel of the weight of his boyfriend next to him comforted him more than anything. A hand slid up his back as Remus dropped his book and looked over at Sirius.
“How are you?” He asked, looking down at the dark eyes that all Black family members sported.
“Bored,” he admitted. “And I could not stop thinking about you.”
“How so?” Remus laughed softly.
“I was thinking about how much I wanted to touch you, kiss you, and be close to you,” Sirius said leaning up and getting closer to Remus.
“Oh…” Remus said getting slightly uncomfortable with this and pulling back.
Sirius watched not knowing entirely why Remus always seemed to get uncomfortable with close contact. This was not anything new and he had always been too afraid to ask why. Sirius did not move any closer as he watched Remus carefully.
“That is if you want me to,” he added not wanting to push Remus.
“It’s okay,” Remus said leaning forward and gently placing a kiss on Sirius’ lips.
Sirius took this opportunity to lean in slightly and run a hand into Remus’ hair, receiving a small moan in response. The kiss started to deepen as Sirius leaned even closer, their breathing getting faster before the kiss broke. Sirius did not wait long before leaning in and kissing Remus again, pulling him closer than he had the last time. Remus tensed up yet again and Sirius could tell this which caused him to break the kiss.
“Remus, what is wrong?”
“I…” he simply said getting nervous as he looked at Sirius. “I think I need to come clean with you.”
“Let me guess….” Sirius said pulling back and looking him in the eyes. “You are not interested in me and have been using me.”
“Sirius, it is nothing like that.”
“Then why do you seem to always pull back and tense up every time I kiss you?”
“You have to promise me you will not say a word to anyone. Not even James.”
“Sure,” Sirius said, irritated by now.
“I’m trans,” Remus said softly causing Sirius to look at him confused.
“What?”
“You heard me.”
“But you do not look… female…”
“Yeah. There is a spell on me so I look male.”
“How long have you known?”
“For years now. Before I got my letter,” Remus admitted. “My father was very accepting and helped with the spell. Dumbledore knew about this as well and promised to keep my secret. He agreed that once I could keep up the spell, that I would. I have been doing it this year myself and that is what made me uncomfortable. I am afraid that…. I would not have it right and when we kissed or you would press up against me, you would figure it out.”
“Are you going to shy away if I touch you?” Sirius asked watching Remus shake his head no.
Kissing him gently, Sirius let one hand slide between Remus’ legs and caress him. As Sirius did this, Remus’ eyes went wide with shock. Sirius broke the kiss with a smirk.
“You feel the same as me,” he grinned causing Remus to smile. “Now can I please continue?”
“Yes, but if I ever don’t get the spell right…. Will you tell me?”
“Absolutely, unless we both agree otherwise,” Sirius agreed.
“Deal,” Remus said pulling Sirius against him and kissing him deeply, just as he had done so many times last year.

Saturdays
to make up for the angst of the letter, here are 13yo prince!Sirius and Remus being dorks and amazing. but be wary, she's not angsty, yet, but she will be.
Saturdays were Sirius’s favorite day. Because Saturdays were the days he could see his best friend.
Every Saturday morning, he’d jump out of bed and run down the hall long before his governess came to wake him and his sister up—unlike every other morning when both of them had to drag him out of bed while coercing him with sweets. He’d shovel down his breakfast, ignoring his mother’s scolding about manners, and run through the backdoor in the kitchen. He’d say “good morning” to all of the cooks and help before swiping a few snacks and barreling out the door. He’d race through the expanse of the garden, careful not to step on the various plants and vegetables, but always make sure to scare all of the chickens and ducks to make them go flying all around him.
After he made it past the walls of the castle, he began his trek through the woods to their secret spot by the river. It wasn’t that long of a walk, but the trees and foliage made it easy to get lost. He had gotten lost once, and ended up sitting on a rock for an hour, crying, until his friend came to find him and jokingly scolded him for being such a baby. Now, he knows these woods like the back of his hand, never stopping his run until he saw the small clearing near the water.
As he got closer, the faint view of someone sitting on a log with a book in hand came into view. Sirius smiled to himself, knowing it was his best friend waiting for him, and ran slightly faster to reach him. He came to a stop a few feet behind where his friend sat to catch his breath, then threw his sack of snacks on the ground and plopped next to him. The boy jumped slightly at his entrance and clutched his book to his chest.
“Good morning, Remus!” Sirius cheered, drawing out “morning” and lowering his voice comically deep.
“Merlin, Sirius! Must you always startle me like that?” Remus chided, setting his book down in the grass.
“Must you always be so startled? It’s too fun to stop if you’re always going to squeal like a little girl every time. Now are you going to keep moping or can I bring out today’s feast?”
“I don’t squeal like a little girl,” Remus mumbled. “And I’m not moping! But, yes reveal the feast.”
Sirius pulled various cakes, rolls, sweets, and berries out of his large sack and handed them to Remus, who meticulously arranged them under his blanket he had brought. Once he was satisfied with their spread, he sat his own basket on his lap and unwrapped various plates and glasses, followed by two glass jugs of pomegranate and cranberry juice. He poured a glass of pomegranate for himself and a glass of cranberry for Sirius.
“Is it to your liking, Your Mopiness?” Sirius lowered his voice like before and bowed his head at his friend.
“Not quite,” Remus stood with an empty cup in his hand, and ran first to the river and dipped the glass in it to fill it with water. Sirius’s eyes followed him with confusion as he then ran to the tree line, then back to their blanket. He returned with a fistful of dandelions he ripped from the earth in the cup, dirt already clouding the water and sat it in the middle of their meal.
“Now, Sir Twat, our feast is complete.”
“A marvelous addition! And now, My Liege,” Sirius smiled at him and lifted his plate, “we dig in!”
The young princes filled their small dessert plates with treats and ate until their stomachs hurt. When he was finished, Remus laid down on the grass and stared up at the clouds. Sirius soon joined him and moved closer so they were touching shoulders and staring at the morning sunrise together.
“That one looks like a dragon!” Sirius exclaimed, pointing to a vague blob in the sky.
“You moron,” Remus chuckled. “That cloud looks like nothing.”
“Oh, come off it, Remus. Have some imagination. Everything looks like nothing if you don’t pay attention.”
“Ok, ok, fine. Uhm, this one,” the boy pointed somewhere else above them. He paused for a moment, thinking, then broke out in hideous laughter. “This one looks like you!”
“Why I’ve never heard you speak such vile things! Absolutely how dare you, Your Highness!” Sirius clutched his chest in fake agony and rolled on top of Remus. “I’m so incredibly hurt by your accusations, I think I’ll just die!” He squirmed on on top of the prince and tickled his sides until he was red in the face.
“Sirius!” Remus finally managed to speak through his pained laughs. “Sirius, stop! I can’t- I can’t breathe! Ok! Ok! I’m sorry, I’m sorry! Get off of me!”
“No, I’m afraid it’s too late, my lord. I am on the brink of death! You have cut me right to my core, and now I must die!”
Their laughter and squeals increased and flowed like soft mist over the morning. After a time, they stopped and caught their breath, until Sirius jumped up again and demanding they play Knights. He tossed Remus a large stick he found and took his best “knight stance.” Remus groaned, but joined him nonetheless.
They jumped over rocks, logs, and around trees and eventually stumbled back near the riverbed. Sirius, too caught up in their own fantasy world, accidentally knocked Remus flat on his back, causing a large splash in the calm waters.
They both froze for a moment. Sirius began to fear that Remus would stand up and start shouting at him. It had happened before over smaller things, like spilling cranberry juice all over the blanket or putting grass in his hair. He was never serious, and he found it quite funny to see his usually stoic friend get so red in the face. But he didn’t shout. Instead, he started laughing. Without looking at him, Sirius thought he had begun to cry with the way his shoulders heaved and the way his breath came out choppy. But soon, Remus tilted his head back at bellowed out the loudest, most un-princely cackle he’d ever heard. Seeing Remus smile had always made him smile, but this was something he’d never seen before, so he, too, let out a howl of laughter and fell to his knees in joy.
In the midst of their fun, Remus heard the 11 am bell ring and jumped to his feet.
“You have to get going! Your mother is going to have a fit if you’re not back by noon!” Remus shouted and stumbled out of the stream, hurrying to put all of the dishes and plates away.
Sirius slowly followed him back to their blanket, wrapping up all of the food and folding Remus’s blanket for him.
“She has a fit no matter what I do. She’s a crazy lady,” Sirius shrugged his shoulders.
“Still, I’d rather her not fuss at you when we can avoid it.”
“What do you mean, ‘we’? She’s not your mother, is she?”
Remus scoffed at that.
“No, but she doesn’t have to be. Your problems are my problems. If it’s your fault, it’s my fault, too,” Remus said all of this without looking up, so nonchalantly, like it was obvious. Like of course he would feel that way.
Sirius stared at him while Remus kept himself busy with the dishes. Remus looked up and handed Sirius his sack.
“You better get going. No matter how fast you run, it’s still a long way back,” Remus began to walk in the opposite direction, hopping over various stones in the stream and disappeared into the woods.
Sirius stood still for a few moments after he had left. The end of the hour bell signaled him back into reality, and he started his run back towards the castle.

Remus: May I?
Sirius (nodding)
Remus (leaning in closer to look at Sirius’ eyes): Your eyes have the most beautiful shade of grey I’ve ever seen
Sirius (laughing): It’s the centuries of inbreeding
Remus: Do you always make jokes when you’re nervous?
Sirius: Who said I was nervous?
Remus: Your face turning pink and the grin you’re fighting to hide gave it away.
Sirius: Yeah? Well I think you have the warmest shade of hazel brown in your eyes, almost like gold
Remus (laughing): Your eyes are like chips of silver starlight. My eyes are just plain brown.
Sirius (whispering with a smile): I don’t think there’s anything plain about you Remus Lupin
James (groaning): Oh fuck me gently with a chainsaw, this shit is too much for me. Can’t you two go be gay somewhere else?
