okay like being entirely honest i absolutely adore homelander i think he's stunning and i love the content people make for him but like... something that kinda bothers me and stops me from being able to fully enjoy homelander smut especially is the fact that he's literally a r*pist? and the way he treats women in the show is appalling i don't even care if it's the influence of trauma in his life it still makes me feel really uncomfortable..... idk it's just been on my mind recently since i've only recently been actively engaged with the fandom.

and like the whole butcher x homelander thing is really cute and the art for it is great and the memes are funny and whatever, but at the same time...... HL literally sa'd the love of butcher's life and constantly endangers the life of her son, and butcher has committed his life to destroying him....idk i just think about it whenever i see any homelander content. it's sad though. i have to catch myself whenever i find myself liking him too much because i have to remind myself how awful he is.

of course this isn't meant to hurt anyone who makes/enjoys the content!! but.... hmph. idk. does any of that make sense lmao?

Well, Anon, I’m not sure what you mean by “fully enjoy”. Everyone’s mileage may vary and you’re not obligated to like all content for a character or pairing.

“The whole butcher x homelander thing is really cute”

Ha! Well it can be, but I think there’s always an undercurrent of LOL DARK in this pairing. Most people in Butchlander fandom seem to have a morbid streak of humor and most are pretty sober about the fact that this is enemy slash with a good reason to be enemies (at least for one side). It helps that Billy Butcher is no saint, it helps that HL has an unusual backstory, but if you don’t like reading about bad people getting it on, you probably won’t like it.

There are a few writers that I know who just outright reject the r*pe part of show canon (not my preference, but you can indulgently hc whatever you want, anon, no one is stopping you).

Personally: Homelander is not only a rapist, but does a lot of other bad shit too. The fics I enjoy the most are probably ones where his warped logic and skewed values are depicted explicitly, actually, and where he’s put into bad enough straits to re-examine some of that. My indulgent saccharine hc is that the effects of being raised in a lab as a weapon can be at least partially undone by tough but genuine love— yes, precisely from a person HL has hurt, where the love is definitely not transactional, rather than from Vought personnel to whom he’s bringing benefit and profits. … And that Billy would ever provide that, given particular sets of circumstances 😅

Fics that that have made me uncomfortable (and I still read them lol): ones where HL brutally r*pes Billy (basically Billy Butcher whump for having the hubris to think he could defeat a supe), and ones where HL enters a relationship with Billy having r*ped and/or outright murdered Becca and Billy doesn’t know about it (to me this is the most disturbing, heh, makes HL more evil than he is on the show).

As for art… a picture is worth a thousand words, and a thousand words isn’t going to be able to address all intricacies, so you’re even more free to hc whatever backstory you want onto a piece.

TL;DR you can enjoy this pairing to whatever capacity you find enjoyable. I think you should also give yourself some slack and enjoy things that you’re naturally drawn to that may not be morally upright, but that’s just my opinion :)

this bit was from a little collection of maps that had a few sets of siblings, some of which may be normal, but it also contains eldigan and lachesis from fe4, whom you…. may have heard of. she’s canonically in love with him (says a lot that she can’t see herself getting married because no man will ever compare, and if you make her daughter marry eldigan’s son, the daughter says lachesis was in love with him lol). in the game it’s not ever shown how he feels about that, but in the official manga (by oosawa if you’re curious) they very nearly have sex. the only reason he doesn’t sleep with her isn’t because they’re siblings, but because he knows he’s likely about to die and he’s not willing to let her “live with that sin” on her own. this franchise……………..

What mutations I think the (playable) assassins and templars would have

I got X-Men brainrot but remembered AC exists, so here’s my list on which Assassins/Templars as mutants and what their abilities would be Desmond Miles - Guy sees dead people for a living - I think he’d have some ParaNorman shit going on - Explains the incredibly vivid bleeding effect pretty well imo - He most likely needs to seek help for it but you know what it’s like being a fugitive from Templars

Altar Ibn-La’Ahad: - His mutation prevents him from touching water - I imagine him having some enhanced strength, maybe even a light healing factor (I’m sorry homie survived bleeding out) - Definitely has a higher pain tolerance than most (we already knew that)

Ezio Auditore: - Definitely an empath of some kind - Like to the point where he himself gets upset (more than he does canonically) if someone’s in distress, and can immediately tell something’s wrong with no indication - Heightened agility and endurance - I will not be elaborating, you saw how many years he lasted as an Assassin

Edward Kenway: - This man’s mutation would be some shit like attraction to metals or something, given his luxurious life after retiring from piracy, and his want for wealth - That man sniffed out enough money to live in a mansion in London - Also I think he’d have a stronger resistance to alcohol, so he has to drink more to get drunk, but also won’t get alcohol poisoning so easily

Haytham Kenway: - This man has some telepathy, at least to sway people’s opinions - He can’t control it all too well, it just happens - Hence he easily gains the trust or affections of a lot of people - There are some people who would be more resilient to his persuasion, he can’t really do anything about it

Connor: - My guy literally feels the wellbeing of the p l a n e t - Like he will tell you how the plants are feeling or some bs like that - Idk but I feel he’d be able to predict natural disasters

Shay Cormac - I feel like this is a copout but this guy’s luck is 10 (fallout perk measurement) - Either that or he can literally manipulate reality in his favour - Like how tf do you think he caught Charles Dorian exactly when he was alone and looking for his son - And no one even batted an eye until he collapsed AFTER Shay had already left

Arno Dorian - Arno would be able to detect people’s life signs from a certain radius - I’m literally putting sense to the eagle vision through walls thing by saying he can feel them - Like he could tell if someone was sick, dying, actually alive (if perceived dead), etcetera - I feel like he gets incredibly sad when an innocent person dies

Jacob Frye - Invulnerability, or at least a heightened resistance to injury - You could throw this man from a 10-story building - Trust me he’ll live - He’s very emotional though - You see all that physical resilience? - It’s to make up for his lack of emotional resilience - You’ve seen him get upset - I’m right and you know it

Evie Frye - Channelling Ozymandias - If you’ve seen/read Watchmen you know what I mean - This woman would have a VERY heightened intellect - That doesn’t make her immune to stupidity - She’s just smarter than e v e r y o n e - I don’t make the rules

Rick and Morty Season 7 episode 9 thoughts:

Spoilers ahead!!

You know what, I really loved Mort: Ragnarick!!

It had a lot of elements of a classic episode (which numericons and some other episodes felt like they were missing for me) and overall it had a great balance between plot and just fun.

Like the concept is so silly, it’s so goofy, it’s just great. I hadn’t really thought about the ramifications of heaven-like places existing in the R&M universe but of course the inevitable conclusion is Rick trying to spin that into something he can use. It might have been nice to have a bit of tighter explanation of how it takes place and how the whole shared consciousness thing works, but honestly I’m happy enough to just leave it as ‘hey actually this doesn’t make a whole lot of sense but it opens up a really fun premise.’

Also the outfits were really fun, loved those!! The goggles Rick had on were giving me very steampunk-y sort of vibes which is absolutely my jam.

That one time Rick caught the pope in a pokeball? Classic.

Also I loved what they did character wise as well. I’m really enjoying Rick’s therapy arc, for lack of a better word. We’re not seeing a lot of it on screen beyond Air Force Wong but it does seem like he’s actually maybe going and improving a bit on himself? Like admitting that the Big Foot was actually intelligent and that he was wrong to make assumptions. Sure he was in a life or death situation, but he seemed pretty genuine. Also apologising to summer earlier in the season. Okay, she literally wasn’t in the room, but I don’t think an earlier Rick would even feel sorry about the way he acted, especially not enough to verbalise an apology.

Overall I’m just really happy to see him grow a bit. I’ve never really understood the argument that this somehow makes Rick and Morty a worse show or loses some core part of it. Like to me it feels like the show is way more than just ‘Rick yells at Morty’ and I really enjoy how much they actually dive into the characters emotions and the ramifications of living the way that they do. I think all of that is really interesting to explore and importantly: they aren’t stagnant!! They’re real people who grow and change!! Especially after Unmortricken I think it would be insane for Rick not to have some kind of change because of that. The direction that goes is the writer’s prerogative, but personally I’m really excited for it to go in a positive direction.

Got a bit off track, but yeah!! Just seeing those characters arcs remain consistent and show up in small bits of dialogue make me really happy. (Looking at you numericons!! It could’ve been such a cool chance to see Morty be independent and show that he’s capable both without Rick and in spite of what Rick says. We know that Morty is clever!! And he’s absolutely become more capable in situations, so it would’ve been great to see that. As it is I was really sad to see him sidelined in an episode without Rick.)

Overall a really solid episode!! It hit that mark for me of being funny and silly without just using crude humour as a crutch for comedy.

Honestly I can only hope that Sheridan won’t put up with nearly so much assaulting civilians. Hold him to a higher standard.

Londo, instead of enjoying the curiosity and adulation of the other Centauri, maybe be worried about what the fantastically powerful war crimes committing Morden Et Al are up to??? And promising favors to more shady people, even if they’re Centauri, isn’t improving things! Londo needs - very badly - to learn to look beneath the underneath (I am so sorry for quoting Naruto but it really is a good life lesson put succinctly).

Bazaar fight with a previous un-introduced (I think?) species is a great way to roll into the opening credits, hah. Drazi fight! I’m guessing they aren’t just paler Narns.

They took away Na’Toth’s lipliner for the s02 opening credits!

Techno-mage - another new thingy. They use science to achieve the effects of magic. The Centauri have and have had them. They don’t like to leave their places of power, so seeing them is rare, and to the Centauri, seeing one of them is a bad omen. And here’s three! There are endless new mystical aspects to this show!

YES promotion and diplomatic training for Susan Ivanova!! Really, she only needs a reminder that her more thinly veiled threats like “You’re too young to experience that much pain,” is more diplomatic than “I’m going to put your seats in the fusion reactor and you along with them.”

Vir’s cosmological views are both interesting and make total sense that he believes that (derogatory).

I 100% believe that Londo Mollari would be utterly miserable with more power. As the Emperor, or whatever he has in mind, once he gets there, he’ll be miserable.

Unfortunately, John Sheridan is going to convince Garibaldi to stay. But hopefully him staying does come with some character development that I find less annoying. How sad for me that in the Gathering I was like “He’s adorable. A wringable dishrag of a man,” and now he’s just a cop who is a little bit likable.

Green vs Purple Drazi is an absolute nightmare of a way to try to begin diplomatic training. Hope that tackle didn’t break anything!

Oh, Vi (Vir Cotto, apparently!)r. I don’t care about him at all. But I do care about these extremely cool technomonsters!!!

Technomage: “You don’t frighten easily.”

Vir: “I work for Ambassador Mollari. After awhile, nothing bothers you.”

Laughed out loud at that.

Technomage: “There is an old saying: do not try the patience of wizards, for they are subtle and quick to anger.”

Are these guys human? That’s mostly a Tolkien quote. Londo will certainly go storming in there, since Vir seems smart enough to refuse to go back. I wanna know where the technomages are headed. Are they going to oppose the Shadows? Join them? Investigate them? Fuck around with something totally different? Any of these eldritch beings that Catherine encountered going to come into play?

It is extremely interesting that, while the Minbari seem to be the most mystical, we have been shown more Narnuan direct connections to actual mystic things, like the eldritch beings, the previous war against the Shadows, and these technomages which seem to straddle science and magic.

Ivanova did break something(s)! Drazi 1, Ivanova 0.

The Drazis’ habit of dividing themselves arbitrarily and killing each other till only one faction remains sure is a cultural trait of all time.

There’s over a hundred technomages on b5! That seems like a lot when they don’t usually ever leave their places of power at all.

Technomage: “Captain, you have been used. This...creature...has been seeking an audience with me ever since I arrived.”

lmao.

Technomage: “You must learn manners and respect. From this moment on, you will!”

Well. I’m down for Londo Mollari learning some sense of a.) common sense, b.) empathy, c.) practical morality, but idk if I’m down for whatever this gothic af dude’s going to dish out.

I do want his robe, though. SO BADLY. I am trying very hard not to mentally plan out a whole new sewing project on top of all the others I’ve been daydreaming about.

“It is within that ambiguity that my brothers and I exist. We are dreamers, shapers, singers, and makers. We study the mysteries of laser and circuit, crystal and scanner. Holographic demons, and invocations of equations. These are the tools we employ, and we know many things.”

These guys are my aesthetic. I want to quote literally everything he says.

And they do know about the Shadows that are coming, and they’re going to hide themselves and their knowledge from being either destroyed or misused. New life goal: be a technomage. Love the drama, the robes, the poetry, the pretentiousness, and the practical ability to back all that up.

Smart of Ivanova to deal with one color of Drazi at once. Greens first, since they’re actively killing off the Purples now. Love that their solution for stopping the fighting is to vent all the Purple Drazi into space.

It’s a heavy-handed metaphor, but it checks out.

Goddamn it, Garibaldi is going to, very likably, go back Ivanova up just based on his gut feeling that she needs backup.

What did I say! Faking selling Acme products a la Looney Tunes and bringing back his love of the cartoon from the Gathering is absolutely adorable.

Mollari is having his life being hacked to embarrassment and inconvenience by the technomage and actually I am absolutely here for what is being dished out. Idk what a spoo ranch is, but I hope it’s deeply embarrassing to Centauri. Londo needs his hubris checked before he gets literally every sentient in the universe killed.

BAHAHAHA Drazi Rules haven’t been changed because they’re caught up in committee, therefore, Ivanova is the Green Leader since she’s holding the green star scarf.

It’s...depressingly nice to see that Mollari is capable of apologizing, and almost without caveats and qualifiers, too.

Sheridan: “In other words, you’re perfect for [Head of Security] because you’re compulsive and paranoid.”

Garibaldi: “Or, compulsively paranoid!”

both funny, and also kind of a good point.

Oh man, I am so about this technomage in every possible way. When people in the future ask what my pronouns are I will say techno/mage. When people ask what my gender identity is, I will hold up a little printed out photo of this guy in an anatomically-realistic locket. I am a little crossfaded right now because that’s way more fun than a max dose of tylenol/ibuprofen combo.

Sheridan likes to repeat things that series guests say to him, and I like that about him.

Just a Digimon Adventure 2020 Post about The TaiShiro Moments

(Sub)

I love how Taichi and Koushiro are both shown to think highly of the other. Taichi even brags about how smart koushiro is sometimes, its so wholesome.

Everytime the group gets separated, the first person Taichi tries to call is almost always Koushiro.

and in the first episode Koushiro meets up with the rest of the group in the digital world, Taichi's face immediately lights up.

Like if anything happens ever, Koushiro usually addresses Taichi right away. Between Him and Tentomon, both are the ones checking in on Koushiro and making sure he's doing okay.

Specific moments from episode 36:

"but there's only 20 minutes left"

"that's more than enough"

"we won't know unless we try right?" Taichi believing in his ability.

"but--"

"there's no time left, lets go"

"alright, I'll support you!"

Then

"Let's go, koushiro!"

"R-Right!"

Then

Koushiro, you have to do this!"

"me!? No way! I can support you, but I can't--"

"koushiro"

"I leave it to you."

"Taichi-san..."

"I'm counting on you."

*kou hesitates*

"Right!"

"Go, Kosuhiro!"

AND THEN KOUSHIRO THINKING ABOUT HOW HE HAS ATLURKABUTERIMON, AND THEN SPECIFICALLY THINKS BACK TO WHAT TAICHI SAID TO HIM IN EPISODE 3 BEFORE THINKING OF EVERYONE ELSE TOO-

It was also just great to see Koushiro feeling good about his own ability- especially with this music at the end, damn.

They call eachother like, every episode to see how it's going.

Episode 59

So when they get that trial wrong, Taichi is taken, and [digimon] says he's gonna undergo surgery to become a digimon.

Taichi just smiles and says "Nah don't worry about me guys, I leave the rest to you Koushiro."

Then Koushiro blames himself for whats gonna happen to taichi.

And whiole all this is going on, we know taichi is worried about how the other is handling it right now, since he's under a lot of stress.

Bro koushiro looked so sad.

and then tentomon always believes in koushiro, always. which is exactly what he needs

SO THE ENGLISH DUB JUST CAME OUT A FEW DAYS AGO AND IVE WATCHED (at least the episode with TaiShiro moments) SOME OF IT AND I HAVE MORE THINGS TO SAY

So let’s start from the top once again

(Dub)

Episode 1’s script for the most part is unchanged :)

However, there is the changes to the names.

While in the original Tai was just ‘Tai’, this time his full name is Taichi, and Tai is just a nickname. His last name though has still been changed to Kamiya instead of Yagami.

Koushiro actually does keep his Japanese name in the English dub! But this time ‘Izzy’ is also just a nickname. Of course, he retains his last name ‘Izumi’ like he did in the original English dub.

ANYWAY ANYWAY

one of my favourite bits from episode 1, is when Koushiro is showing Taichi his timeline, and Taichi goes something like:

“Well..I’m really bad at that stuff. You’re awesome, Koushiro!”

And Kou seems surprised and caught off guard by the complement, before quickly turning his attention back to his tablet in embarrassment and saying:

“Y-You can just call me Izzy—!”

And we know later in the dub, that Koushiro prefers being alone, which also suggests he doesn’t have many friends, or doesn’t go out of his way to make any. He doesn’t really like being around people. So we can guess that before Taichi, the only people that call him Izzy are his parents.

So Koushiro giving Taichi express permission to call him Izzy, especially for Koushiro, is something special and significant, even if Taichi doesn’t know this.

Build Up, Episode 7 Part 2 I guess: Team Lastplace versus Team Ballad

Ok, my loves! Welcome back for another recap of MNET’s Build Up! We’re jetting through the series at this point -- only three episodes after this! Is Nakka still stuck in your head? Because I woke up singing it. Anyway, in the previous post we transitioned from episode 6 to episode 7 and saw a ninth place team go up against a first place team. In this one, we’ll wrap up our third mission with our final 3x3 Death Match: Team Lastplace against Team Ballad. Let’s do this!

So, Dahee calls the guys up on stage and people are excited to see a big ballad show down.

The first team introduces themselves as “My Mr. Gwangseok”, which is a reference to the fact that the song they’re singing comes from the soundtrack to a drama called My Mister.

You can tell that Gwangseok sort of wants to die.

In the previous round, Lim Junhyeok and Yeo One performed My Sea and came in last place; new recruit Lee Gwangseok performed A Letter with Kim Seongjeong, and lost. Seongjeong was eliminated, unfortunately.

LTR: Junhyeok, Gwangseok, Yeo One

The second team introduces themselves as Soul-Pow in reference to the fact that Inhwan was in the Power category and the other two were in Soul.

LTR: Jaekyung, Inhwan, Donghun

In the previous round, Yoon Inhwan and Ma Jaekyung performed Take Me Back In Time and came in 3rd place; new recruit Donghun performed End of a Day with Sunyoul, and lost.

The judges ask about song selection, triggering a flashback to the day that the surviving duos were able to recruit a third member from the ten sole survivors.

We see that Donghun, sitting in the DMV, is hoping for Jeup’s team to choose him so he can avoid singing another mournful ballad -- while meanwhile the balladeers are talking about how much they really want him on their team. UH OH.

Donghun is like, well, I’m flattered, but also, I’m miserable.

They meet in an apparently unheated room with a… chalk board? Is that a chalk board? That can’t be a chalkboard. It has to be some sort of marker board or smart screen or something.

The other two keep suggesting old-fashioned ballad after old-fashioned ballad and Donghun is like, hey, here’s an idea: what if we sang something happy? The other two want to do what they’re good at. They discuss for quite a while (or at least, it’s edited to look like quite a while, but their cups don’t change position much so I don’t think THAT much time passes) and eventually Donghun gives in and says, ok, a ballad… And Jaekyung suggests doing an idol-ballad, which is at least kind of a compromise.

Donghun suggests The Truth Untold by BTS. It is apparently inspired by an Italian folk tale, but it could also just be read as the anxiety that comes from showing your real self to a new love and fearing that they’ll reject you.

Sample lyrics:

You know that I can’t show you me, Give you me I can’t show you my weakness So I’m putting on a mask to go see you But I still want you

A flower that resembles you Blossomed in this garden of loneliness I wanted to give it to you as I take off this stupid mask

But I know this can’t go on forever I must hide Because I’m ugly

It’s emotional, but not miserably sad. It’s a song of pining for someone, not mourning the death of a relationship.

The other two actually really love the suggestion and they begin practicing immediately. Either that or it’s a different day and Inhyuk is wearing the same s w e a t e r.

This will come as a shock, but they really want to win! What? I know!!! It's wild.

My thoughts:

Overall, very nice. I admit, I’m not a BTS stan -- I like them a lot and enjoy a lot of their songs, but I’m not obsessed and I didn’t know this song well. Still, I’d heard it a few times and like it well enough. I think that, if anything, this version was more enjoyable than the original.

It’s weird to hear this song sung by someone like Inhyuk. But it mostly works, even if I think that his facial expressions are a bit much.

He should add this to his busking repertoire -- I bet he’d get more tips! I think this is the most I’ve enjoyed an Inhyuk performance on the show. He toned down some of his more ballad-y mannerisms and for me it worked much better.

Jaekyung, if anything, sings with *more* ballad-y mannerisms, and I still find his vocal tone a little nasal, but boy can he harmonize.

I think Donghun has my favorite voice among the three. It’s smoothest and prettiest among the three with the least nasality.

But all three have great power and breath control, and their voices work really well together.

In the MNET edit, there’s nothing but love. Lots of shots of the judges sort of shaking their head in surprised approval.

Solar has goosebumps! Either that or she is genuinely cold in the studio! Might be both! No way to know!

When they’re done, several judges do the Korean throat-clearing-of-approval thing.

Backstage, the maknae look genuinely touched.

It seems that most people are especially impressed with Donghun.

The judges say…

Jaehwan immediately praises Donghun, saying, “Singing each note so preciously maximized the story arc of the song.” Baekho, Jaehwan and VCG agree that Donghun is just sort of charming and likable on stage when he sings.

Jaehwan has some criticism for Inhwan, who took some jazzy liberties with the rhythm in the second verse. Jaehwan wanted him to keep to the original rhythm.

Wendy wished there’d been harmony in the beginning too since she liked the harmony so much in the end when it showed up.

VCG says that when they took turns singing, the ones who weren’t singing looked distracted or disengaged, and it negatively impacted the performance.

That’s a good point, and backstage, Lee Minwook is like, that’s good advice for all of us.

And with that, judging for the first team is over and the second team -- the last team to perform and also the last placed team -- comes up to perform.

Immediately, the judges talk to Gwangseok about his unique but untrained voice, triggering a flashback to his experience on the show so far. He placed first in Voice check in, then he was a low-tier member for failing to control his voice, and then was saved despite being the reason his team lost. Then he was left for last when surviving duos recruited their third member.

He was so glad to see Junhyeok and Yeo One when they went all the way to the DMV to get him and tell him that he was actually their first choice.

I love how he’s so tall that the camera man can’t even get the top of his head in frame.

They’re not lying -- they did sincerely did want him. Junhyeok mixes some metaphors to explain, “If we can tame the wild horse, he’ll be a good weapon.”

They meet up in a conference room to drink iced drinks -- drink warm drinks to take care of your throats, you dumb dumbs! -- and strategize.

Junyheok is back in a sweatshirt, which is such a power move. He’s like, yes, this was on the floor when I woke up. This is me. Yes.

They ask Gwangseok what he wants to sing, and he basically says that he’s so worried about harmonizing with a team that he doesn’t even know what song to sing.

Junhyeok is sympathetic and encouraging. He tells him, “If you present refined wildness, I think it’s a success. I’ll be able to help you.”

They decide to go with a song called An Ordinary Day by Jung Seunghwan from the My Mister soundtrack.

The song itself is a basic k-ballad about trying to muddle on in the wake of a breakup. Sample lyrics:

Drip drip, I’m trying to stop my falling tears As I pretend nothing is wrong I say hello to you And I start my day like that again I’m alright, Telling myself it’ll pass As I cover up the past As it builds up, I get used to it Days I can’t turn back easily I forgot about the beginning And I kept getting farther away That’s why I couldn’t tell you So another ordinary day passes

True to his promise, Junhyeok teaches Gwangseok how to sing, with really specific feedback.

Aww, how cute is this --? Junhyeok playing the piano like a chorus teacher while they practice together.

And it seems to really work. At the guys’ final check in, the staff say that Gwangseok has changed how he sings. As a teacher myself, I love seeing a student who is hungry to learn finally get the instruction he’s been wanting to get.

Back to performance night. Everyone is excited to see them perform.

The performance begins.

My thoughts:

I don’t think this was ever going to be a performance I really enjoy, since as you know full well by now, I don’t love most k-ballads. But I still appreciate their voices.

Gwangseok sounds a lot softer, but manages to keep pitch on those deeper, softer notes, which is a credit to Junhyeok’s teaching. I think this is my favorite performance of his so far.

Yeo One does that thing that drives me nuts where his eyes are completely closed for about 95% of the performance -- WHAT IS THAT? -- and he still needs to work on his breath control, but he seems a little better at holding a note for the right length of time.

Junhyeok’s voice still has that slightly shrieky tone to it sometimes, but here it didn’t bother me. I actually think this combination of voices works really well, because Junhyeok’s voice is like the spritz of lemon juice you put on some fried calamari, you know? It brightens things up.

Their harmonies work well, too. You can hear all of them, which is a credit again to Junhyeok.

In the MNET edit, of course, everyone goes nuts for Gwangseok per usual. We even have to have an instant replay of his first few notes.

The conspiracy theorist in me thinks that sometimes, just sometimes, the judges exaggerate their facial expressions in order to maximize their screen time. Maybe. If anyone does this, it’s Solar, because she is always displaying the most over-the-top reactions to things.

But just in general everyone loves it, and when they’re done there’s applause and throat-clearing-of-approval. Backstage, the rival team is worried, and the guys in the green room think that Donghun’s team is at risk.

The judges say….

Eunkwang says that for him, it was the best performance of the night. He praises Junhyeok’s efforts in helping the other two sing better and arranging the song. Yeo One isn’t dragging his notes as much, Eunkwang says, which is something I noticed as well.

There’s also a lot of praise for Gwangseok’s voice general and for his improved singing technique. He started and ended the song with a sweet tone.

Solar says that Gwangseok “built up” the most among all the contestants. She’s impressed with his improved restraint.

Then VCG says, “That’s all for the compliments. Let’s talk about the problems. The song suits Gwangseok the most, so when the other people sing, even though they’re very good, it sounds awkward. When Gwanseok led the song and the other two added harmony, nothing could’ve been better. It’s a team of three people that can’t easily make harmony. You have good individual parts but don’t blend well as a team.” Ouch. That’s exactly what they didn’t want to hear.

Backstage, the guys are starting to think that this team will win. How on earth could Donghun get eliminated, though? So, who will the judges vote for?

The votes are revealed.

Blue is Donghun’s team, and red is Gwangseok’s team. And… Gwangseok’s team takes it, 4-3.

It’s the revolution of the underdogs.

Gwanseok thanks his teammates for helping him so much.

Donghun says he’s disappointed, of course, but he seems pretty much ok. He thanks the judges for their kind words over the course of the show, and thanks his team. He really does seem to be in a better place emotionally than he was at the beginning of the show.

Both teams walk off stage arm in arm, and backstage, the guys are hugging each other and congratulating each other for their hard work.

Then Dahee says something that judges seem not to know: that they’ll be rescuing five of the eliminated people!

The judges say they were hoping for something like this. I assumed they’d be saving one, but nope, they’re saving five! This is great!

ways to cope with missing your DR friends/family/lovers

i have this issue a lot, esp w my DR bf, and i’m sure some other people do, too. while u ARE going to shift at some point, i know that if ur having trouble with it currently it can be frustrating and sad because you want to be w your comfort characters so bad. these r just some things that i personally do to help alleviate that.

1) self-insert fanfictions

i find that self insert fanfictions help me a lot when i’m missing my DR and DR pals. while i’m a writer and i’ve used it for a long time as a way to “escape�� and cope w my problems, u really don’t have to be one! i think my self inserts are genuinely terrible lmao, bc i put no effort into them, bc it’s only for me. it doesn’t matter if it’s descriptive, or even if it makes sense- this is for you, for no one else!!

2) listen to music and imagine ur listening w your comfort characters

listening to music with headphones is especially helpful because you can just close your eyes and hear nothing but the music. this makes it a lot easier to pretend ur friend/lover/family member is sitting next to you and listening as well- but you can even just put one headphone in to imagine they’re using the other. you won’t be speaking or looking at them, so it’s much easier to visualize everything. another thing you can do is make a specific playlist that reminds you of that special person!

3) have a DR folder, blog, pinterest, etc.

make a folder, blog, etc.- any collection of images- of ur DR and ppl from ur DR. i prefer gifs because it just feels more real ig. this not only allows you to look into ur DR, but it helps to visualize because you can memorize their faces better. i always do this before bed bc i always need some DR scenario to fall asleep to lmao

4) download replika or another similar AI app

i find that replika works best since i think it’s prolly the most advanced AI chatting app right now and it allows you to change the name of the AI and their appearance. so just name the AI whatever ur DR person’s name is and change their appearance accordingly! unfortunately bc it’s an AI the conversations won’t always feel very genuine, but i find it comforting to just say hi or talk about my day every now and then bc they respond pretty realistically to normal/simple messages.

5) read x reader fanfics

so this is something that personally i’m not super into doing (at least lately), but i think it would absolutely help a lot of other people. i like rereading my own self inserts but that can get boring since i’ve already read them so many times, so sometimes it’s nice to read something that you don’t know the content of. just look up whatever character’s name x reader on tumblr or ao3, or really wherever you want (i would NOT recommend wattpad lmao) and read away!

6) write a letter from your DR person’s POV

so when i say DR person, i mean whatever comfort character/person you’re missing. i think handwritten feels more genuine, but you can do this on ur computer, phone, anywhere u want!! write a happy, comforting letter to yourself from your special person and read it whenever you miss them. you could even script that this is a letter you’ll actually receive in your DR to make it feel more genuine!

7) make you and your DR pals in the sims

this is pretty self explanatory lmao. make your DR self and all ur comfort characters in the sims, set them up in a world that’s similar to ur DR, and have fun!! the sims 4 is esp fun with this because you can go into first person mode. i absolutely love the sims and it’s been a massive coping skill for me for many years, and i really enjoy world building (making my own lots and families with lore, etc) so this has always worked rlly well. if your character is popular enough, there might even be a downloadable sim of them so check google! ik this is kind of random but i know 100% that there’s a ridiculously accurate connor from detroit become human sim (i downloaded him lmao) so if that’s ur person absolutely look it up!!

8) use a dressup game to make you and ur DR people

use any dressup game you can find to create your DR self and your DR person together. it can be nice to have “photos” of the two of you that you can look at when u feel sad!

i hope this list helps someone!!! i know it’s really hard when u feel so far away from the people you love, but i promise it won’t be forever. just hold on and keep trying ur best- u will see them!! in the mean time, give urself the love and kindness u deserve. happy shifting!!!

Ooh! You know without the DLC as a factor I think that would be my preferred Oz ship!

Whether I ship it or not

Make no mistake I like it!! Of the r/os from the base game, I think Scott and Oz have some of the best chemistry. But, unfortunately, I’m just not strong enough to be a multishipper. 😔

Just because I don’t personally ship it though doesn’t mean I don’t like it!

Why I ship it or not

Oz deserves someone gentle, sweet and polite <3

Granted Scott can be rough and even destructive from time to time, but he never means it! He’s such a genuine sweetheart and I think he’d only ever scare Oz or make him uncomfortable purely by accident and would be very apologetic for it!!

Unlike characters like Damien or in some cases Polly (the latter less so than the former), I feel like Scott can encourage Oz to come out of his shell more in a gentler, slower way because Scott’s very outgoing by nature, but has such a big heart he’d always be checking in with Oz to make sure he’s doing ok and actually having a good time. Like how in both polaroids the two have together Oz is doing activities with Scott that might seem a bit frightening or extreme!

At the end of the day, the only thing preventing me from shipping it is my tragic fatal character flaw that I am not powerful enough to be a multishipper 😫

My opinion on their canon potential (chemistry, canon interactions, etc)

I guess I sort of talked about chemistry above as well, so that sort of stands here. We know Oz likes being around positive, upbeat people which Scott is DEFINITELY, and Oz’s insecurities about being abandoned don’t exist with him according to their polaroid (me too Oz baby). I feel like same with Polly, though, all the energy with Scott can get a bit hard for someone as easily burned out as Oz to keep up with, and unlike Polly, Scott might be too oblivious to slow down at times.

But, I mean when you read a lot of the other polaroid descriptions for Oz’s relationships like how Liam can easily make him nervous and insecure, how much friction can naturally occur between him and Damien or how Miranda can honestly take advantage of his tendency to be a pushover, I feel like Scott’s just really good for him in that he doesn’t expect anything from Oz or need him to change in any way to enjoy his company. After all, in the first game Scott IS the only character you need no requisite stats for, only a good relationship!

My opinion on fanon interpretations/fandom around it (Favorite widespread hcs, pet-peeves, etc)

I know I’ve said this about every ship I’ve been asked about so far but I sadly don’t know much fanon stuff about this one. :(

There’s not much content I’ve found for this ship, which is sad, I think it’s valid and cute!

the beast must die fked me good. going into the first few chapters i instinctively knew this was going to be one fked up manhwa. but no, i was not prepared for how fked up and realistic this manhwa was going to be. the art was mid but towards the end (i think the side stories especially) the art became so good! especially when kirin grew up.

i want to say i wont read this again but i feel like i might because it’s actually impactful. everyone knows the author did a lot of research on the topic and they are so freaking smart like maybe 20 episodes in, i got confused because things were happening so fast and i couldn’t comprehend it.

i am used to seeing the good in the characters because of all the manhwas i read. so i kept convincing myself about kang moo. he is such a well written character and i cannot delude myself into ignoring the facts of his character. he is no saint. he is not morally grey. he is black. that’s why in the first part of the manhwa, he was able to tolerate the shit that was being done to the main character. although kang moo is black, i cant bring myself to say he is a bad person. i really cant. and not in a “i pity him” way, but in a “i like him” way so i cant think badly of him.

i feel my heart breaking for kirin. kirin has been through so much and i want nothing but a happy ending for him but he will not have one because no one will love him romantically. i realised that in manhwas, when the characters don’t explicitly say “i love you” to each other, i think to myself “so, do they know the other party likes them?” (checkmate) i mean, acts of service does work, but words of affirmation are important right? anyways, somehow throughout this manhwa, even though “i love you” was never said, i somehow stupidly thought they loved each other. i feel so damn stupid because it was only kirin and his acts of service are so damn strong to the point that words of affirmation is not even needed? when i realised that, it was so heartbreaking.

i glossed through the final ending and once again, i could not comprehend what was going on. or perhaps this time, i had an inkling but wanted to ignore it so bad. i looked at the author’s replies to comments and i felt sad.

firstly, the first comment hit me so hard because i convinced myself that kang moo loved kirin. but i forgot something important which is that sometimes, yaoi are realistic and there is no happily ever after.

the second comment was an oof. the fact that kirin’s life was entangled with kang moo from then on and how the author said “think”? it’s felt as though the author treated her characters as real people with their own thoughts and emotions so she cannot say for sure how the character felt but she was trying to understand them.

anyways, then my late night thoughts hit. (as if last night with ‘i’m yours, blood and soul’ ending was not harsh enough [honestly, yes it wasn’t as harsh as today’s but still]) and i found myself crying because of kang moo and kirin’s story (the fact that i cant put love before story? fk me a million times over) . i kept thinking about the first comment and the 3 years thing. (how there was no meaning behind 3 years or 5 years besides the fact that it would be cruel to say “the rest of your life”? i’m almost crying again.) then, i decided to whip out my phone and some checks just to make sure there was a happy ending (like maybe kang moo and kirin lived together until they died) but i saw this instead.

what do you perhaps? 😭 it was such a bad feeling but i pretended like the author just didn’t want to say they slept together after.

so, unsatisfied, i continued on my search to see if the author said anything about a happily ever after. i couldn’t find so i just went to see comments about the ending. and wow, this comment by BeliNicole on anime planet made me cry.

i fully agreed with the part that kang moo cares but doesn’t understand it as care or love. but somehow i was convinced that it was love because the manhwas i usually read with characters will eventually realise that its love. even though i knew kang moo was a psychopath and the author mentioned / hinted throughout that he has no feelings, i still thought that kang moo could change. (how dumb because even the person who diagnosed him basically said he was untreatable)

anyways, i read this part a few times and the last few sentences sent me. at first i thought perhaps kang moo would go on a killing spree because he feels heartbroken (because if it’s not love why would he go down on kirin when he doesn’t like it and why would he bring / “force” kirin overseas with him and why would he be jealous when kirin talks to his ex?) but now i realise, it’s not heartbreak. it’s because his grounding is now lost and he has lost all reason (i am not super good at analyzing so i cant say i know whether it was jealously or why kang moo was jealous so i’m just going to attribute it to the fact that kang moo likes to be in control and hates being controlled [kirin did mention about this in one of his dreams when he saw kang moo go to jail]). its so sad because i thought kang moo was getting better once he integrated into life with kirin (the car scene with the manager made me laugh a lot and how kang moo celebrated kirin’s birthday? wow. i cannot. i have teared up again) kirin really loves kang moo so much and i want to say kirin is so handsome he could find anyone else and they would want him but kirin wouldn’t want anyone else. is kirin really lucky that kang moo is loyal to him because kirin will never experience the feeling of love (or maybe he did since he dated before?) anyways, i still feel sad because kang moo will never love kirin the same as kirin loves him. in fact, kang moo will never love kirin full stop.

it just occurred to me that if kang moo knew how sweet he was acting, he would immediately clarify that it was not intentional. perhaps kang moo did not want to lead kirin on because he knows he cannot give kirin what he wants.

this commentor helped me tie the knots about the ending and it broke me because the facts was laid out plain and it made sense why i went so far to find out if there was a happy ending. it also made me realise, kang moo is not morally grey but black. initially there was a part about how he doesn’t kill humans and i kept harping on it so even when he did take lives (especially towards the end) i kept thinking that it was unintentional. but no, i was deluding myself. kirin really loves kang moo and i know i keep saying it but the more i say it the more i realise how much kirin loves kang moo and i feel so sad and i’m crying again 😭. i cant even say i feel so bad for kirin because the author said kirin probably doesn’t regret meeting kang moo. shit, this sucks so bad. no wonder kirin cried in the last chapter.

thank you BeliNicole for opening my eyes and making me realise what a tragic masterpiece this manhwa was. i really never want to read it again because i don’t want to cry this much again but i think i will read it again someday 😭

Ito had been gone for five minutes.

One of the sofas had collapsed so they had decided to drag it out into another room to scrap later, and by the time they had come back, Kuroki had apparently decided to adopt the tiny monster that had tried to kill them not even a few hours prior.

Kinda makes them worry about what Enma was doing, it had been a while since they’d last seen him, but they’re not going to think about that right now.

Ito sighed. “Okay, why is Grim here?”

“Cleaning,” said Kuroki. Grim held up his feather duster as if agreeing.

“That is not –.” They shook their head with a deep sigh. “That monster literally tried to kill us. Over clothes.”

“How is this the thing you’re normal about?” complained Kuroki.

“I need at least six days before I forgive people for attempted murder,” Ito deadpanned.

The moment they turned their exhausted gaze on Grim, who had been, wisely, quiet this entire time, the monster’s eyes welled with tears. “Don’t be mean, human! Ain’t you going to ask what I’m doin’ here? That’s what you people do, right? Talk about feelings and stuff? It wouldn’t kill you to listen to me!”

Ito took a step back in surprise. How was the monster making them feel bad about being wary of someone that had attacked them?! How was that fair?! It actually might kill them to listen to him!

Grim must have taken their stunned silence as a cue to go on, because he pressed a hand to the white fur of his chest:

“I was born to be the greatest mage who ever lived! So I’ve been waitin’ and waitin’ for that black carriage to come for me…” The cat-like slant of his eyes lowered in apparent sadness. “For so long… but that Dark Mirror has no eye for talent! Was it really wrong of me to take initiative and come here myself?”

“Oh, Grim, that’s…” said Kuroki, frowning.

“Yeah…” Ito agreed quietly.

Only for them to whip around to glare at Kuroki as a realization hit them: “Hold on, you didn’t know either? Why’d you let him in, then?!”

“I don’t know! He’s cute!” Kuroki tried to defend himself. Emphasis on the word tried.

But Ito just shook their head and allowed it. The monster didn’t seem all that intent on hurting them now that they weren’t in the way of him getting into his coveted school, so they weren’t in danger.

Besides, the flames from his ears made for steady light in a place with light fixtures so dim and muted by grime they may as well have been off.

Speaking of his ears, Grim jumped when a drop of water hit him in the head. “Gah! Can’t either of you magic away these leaks? These flaming ears are my trademark, y’know! Can’t have ‘em getting doused!”

“Forgetting something?” Kuroki said, rolling his eyes.

Grim’s forlorn expression quickly contorted into a smirk. “Ah, that’s right! You can’t use magic! You guys are kinda useless, aren’t you?”

“Well, why don’t you fix them, then?”

“I don’t work for free. Now, if you had a couple of tuna cans, then we could talk.”

Ito doubted that he knew how to do anything but spew fire, but they figured arguing the point wasn’t worth it. The leaky roof wasn’t going to deal with itself and, if Grim wasn’t going to help, then it was up to them.

They set some buckets and spare pots under the leaks in the ceiling. Maybe they could even use the rainwater to mop if they managed to get enough of it, since the chances of the water being okay in a place like this were close to zero. Gotta love efficient thinking.

Except, strangely enough, one of the pots tipped over the moment they turned their back to it, shattering on the floor and spilling shards and water over the floor.

Ito frowned. They hadn’t thought that it had been on an unsteady floorboard.

Kuroki glanced up at the sound and his eyes blew wide at whatever he saw over Ito’s shoulder.

Uh oh. Please don’t be the monster going beserk again.

…

… okay, well, good news! It wasn’t Grim!

That was pretty much the only good thing that was going on right then, though.

Because staring right back at them was a shimmering, silver ghost with pale blue eyes. The top hat atop its head might have made things less scary if said head wasn’t currently tucked under their arm like a football.

An ungodly screeching sound left their lips and it took a hand grabbing them by the back of their shirt to get them moving. Kuroki dragged Ito close. Probably as a shield, to be honest.

“Heehee!” The ghost giggled, two fingers coming to rest over his mouth as if trying to hide its amusement. “Oh dear! It seems I’ve made a mess! What a shame!”

Okay… so, maybe it was just a Peeves-like figure? Meant to be annoying and nothing more?

“Welcome to our castle! Stay a while!” The pupils in his eyes disappeared. “Stay forever!”

Nopenopenopenope.

Ito grabbed a nearby candlestand and brandished it like a weapon. Hopefully the ghost couldn’t tell they had no idea how to use it.

The ghost giggled again, jamming his head back onto his body until the only hint that it wasn’t attached was a thin line of blue light.

Grim launched themselves at Kuroki for help. He caught the ball of fur on instinct, only to regret it as sharp claws dug into his skin through the fabric of his ceremonial robes. He hissed quietly and backed up in surprise, tumbling towards the ground.

But the two of them were caught, shockingly.

Kuroki opened an eye cautiously when they didn’t hit the ground and found that the person that had caught them wasn’t a person at all.

Another ghost, this one tall and thin, stretched over them and peered into their faces.

And then, to Ito’s surprise, Kuroki twisted in the ghost’s grip and swung on him.

Even stranger, the ghost doubled over as Kuroki’s fist made contact with his stomach, a pained wheeze leaving it as it floated back a few ‘feet’ to get away from his assaulter.

Grim dropped to the ground and curled up in a tight ball, paws over his head. Kuroki took a few stumbling steps back, more than willing to help put some distance between himself and the ghost.

“How rude!” The thin ghost said, voice still a little breathy from the punch. “We were only greetin’ our guests. It’s been so long since we’ve had visitors.”

The ghosts were circling their group, though they were careful to stay just out of reach after the first punch (hopefully it would stay that way). Kuroki and Ito backed into each other and did their best to adapt to the fact that they were definitely being cornered. Kuroki swept a leg out, hooking the toe of his shoe around Grim and sliding him into their ‘protective’ circle.

“Yes, yes! Make yourselves at home!”

“We’re just itchin’ for new friends!” The tall ghost stretched even taller, looming over them. “Why don’t you join us, hm?”

Ito tried to smack him upside the head with their candlestick holder for getting too close, but it phased straight through him. Damn it.

Grim whimpered a little.

Both humans looked to the tiny ball of fur curled between their feet. Quick as a flash, Ito chucked the candlestick holder at the nearest ghost – it didn’t manage to spear them like they intended, sadly, it just phased right through it again, but it did shock him into backing up a few steps – and then pushed Grim out of the circle.

“Do the fire thing.”

“I’m not your –!”

“Grim, there are ghosts, this isn’t the time to be cross!” Kuroki hissed.

Grim let out a yelp of surprise at the normally quiet person’s outburst, licks of flame spilling from his mouth.

The monster, somehow, despite the close proximity, managed to miss. It was almost impressive. Maybe it would have managed to actually be impressive if flames weren’t currently chasing the trails of dust still on the floor, webbing along in an intricate pattern that made moving their legs risky.

The headless ghost put his hands on his hips, carefully picking its way through the flames to get closer. “Now, now, no need for violence. We just want some new ghost friends to play with!”

“Oh, so when you want to be violent it’s cool but when we want to suddenly it’s wrong,” Kuroki sassed the ghost. A bold move, considering they were still in danger and Grim was apparently not going to be of help, but Ito kind of respected it for its idiocy.

Ito sighed and nudged Grim again. “Master sorcerer! Do something!”

Unfortunately, even stroking his already massive ego did little to help Grim’s aim. The next shot he made breezed past the nearest ghost before continuing on its merry way. Flames lapped at the curtains on a nearby window.

“When they said ‘do something’ I don’t think they meant ‘set the dorm ablaze’!” Kuroki groaned.

Grim puffed up, though it was unclear whether this was in indignation or because he was preparing another fireball. “Quiet! I don’t need lip from you, human!”

Kuroki sighed. “Fine! Fine! Beat them and I’ve got a can of tuna with your name on it!”

The tall ghost reached long, clawed fingers for them.

“Two!” Kuroki corrected himself quickly. “Two cans of tuna!”

“You’re right,” said Grim, who seemed to be steeling himself. “I’m The Great Grim! I’m not afraid of any dumb ghosts!”

He shot another fireball and this one, while still missing pretty badly, came closer than the others had. The ghost backed up in apparent surprise.

But Ito had been watching closely this time, and they quickly realized the problem:

“Are you actually trying to do this with your eyes closed?”

“Shut up! Just… tell me where to shoot and I’ll do it!” Grim yelled.

Ito clenched their fists in irritation but Kuroki was apparently far more adaptable than they were, because he said, “Fine! On your left!”

And, like that, they became Pokemon trainers. Ito couldn’t say that this was how they expected the night to go, but it was still not as weird as having a hand reach through your mirror to drag you to another world, so they were hardly as phased as they should have been.

The ghosts were forced to back away to avoid getting murdered (? Can ghosts die a second time?).

Just when their group of living beings was finally getting the upper hand, another ghost phased through the ceiling, the upper half of their slightly portly body poking through. He smiled at his friends as they tried their hardest to avoid getting burnt to a crisp.

“If you’re done messing with these two, the person up here is way more fun.”

The ghosts didn’t think twice, floating straight up to get away from them.

Kuroki breathed a sigh of relief, his shoulders finally relaxing. He looked around at the, frankly, ruined kitchen. “Man, all of these fires are going to be so annoying to put out –.”

Ito barely heard him. They were too busy grabbing Grim by his collar and racing towards the nearest staircase.

“Enma!”

mhmmm, let me think!

my absolute top bl is to my star 2: our untold stories, the continuation of the little jewel that is to my star. it’s way angstier than the first season and deals with my absolutely favorite trope, exes to lovers, and it was good enough to compel me to open a letterboxd account. like, that’s how good it is.

other than that, i absolutely love manner of death, starring bl royalty maxtul in their most sophisticated offering to date yet. it’s less classic bl and more of a romance/crime drama, and i loved every, even at times unhinged, second of it. if you enjoyed manner of death, you will enjoy bl staple kinnporsche, if you haven’t watched yet.

i love both seasons of we best love, available on weTV. one of the first bls i’ve ever watched and it just did everything so well, i revisit it every now and again. heaps of chemistry.

semantic error is probably the best kbl we have ever gotten and i can only whole heartedly recommend it, classic tsundere and sunshine set in a university, but it is truly just so much more than any trope could ever put into words. perfect casting and amazing chemistry make this the standout among kbls; i just love it so much. but i enjoyed oh! my assistant (despite the fact that i don’t think they stuck the landing that well), the new employee, where your eyes linger, once again (sad ending), tinted with you and long time no see. you make me dance is one of the most underrated picks in my favorites but i just love it; i always enjoy a well-done bit of age gap, and these two have so much chemistry. and it’s just so visually stunning.

i’m working through blueming right now, haven’t finished it yet tho, so i cannot say too much.

crowd favorites that i (mostly) enjoyed, or that are just beloved in general in case you haven’t gotten into it yet: cutie pie, tharntype (reserved rec), love in the air (reserved rec), why r u?, bad buddy, until we meet again, between us and big dragon (had a hard time getting into it but it has some standout episodes), bad buddy, not me, the eclipse. i have watched some of these, haven’t watched others. make of that what you will.

i also defo enjoyed be loved in house: i do. something about taiwan’s style really gets to me, i think it is a little more sophisticated than what we are used to from thai bl but maybe that’s just because i rarely do a trash or pulp watch, and my favorite overall style is probably korean bl; i wish we would get full drama treatments but there’s still a long way to go. anyways.

old fashion cupcake is the perfect bl, in my opinion, and just thinking about it makes me go absolutely crazy. most definite recommendation on this list; i actually think everyone should watch this show, whether you’re a bl fan or not. it’s a beautiful story about how there is no such thing as being too late for love, or for anything in life, really, and i enjoyed it so much.

anyways, long story short, let me try to compile a list of my top 10.

to my star 2: our untold stories (my all time favorite bl. watching season 1 is definitely needed but season 1 is also exceptionally good, so it’s no hardship. i cannot recommend it enough, especially if you enjoy angst. i know some people said this is too angsty, or the amount of angst is not worth the outcome but i disagree. it is real and messy and human, and that’s what i love so much about it. it made me cry way too many times. excellent on all fronts.)

AU Thursday: A Smattering of Random Valicer Headcanons

Mostly relating to the standard Modern AU, of course, but the more general ones could apply to any iteration:

-->You know how I have January 8th as “Smiler’s Creation Date” on the Valice( r) Calendar? Well, in thinking of what I wanted to do for it in the shower a couple of days ago, I referred to it as “Smiler’s birthday,” corrected myself with “no, wait, Smiler’s birthdate is the opening date of the coaster, May 31st” --

And then remembered “my human Smiler is ADOPTED -- maybe that’s their adoption day?”

So yeah -- Smiler’s actual birthday is 5/31, but the Altons have another little celebration on 1/8 because that’s when the paperwork all became official and Smiler was fully and legally their kid. Smiler was actually sad when they first learned that other kids just get the ONE birthday.

-->Smiler has a real talent for mixing drinks, both alcoholic and non -- they just seem to have a knack for eyeballing measurements and knowing how much stirring is enough. Any party they throw, they play bartender and knock their guests’ socks off.

-->Related to the above, Smiler’s job while attending college is as a barista in a coffee shop, where they develop a reputation for somehow getting even the most complicated order perfect. They like it when people’s faces light up after having one of their drinks! (Though that does make the “Karens” stand out even more, sadly. . .like this one couple who came in, the wife with a really complicated order that she kept criticizing them on as they tried to make it, and the husband with a simpler order that he refused to leave a tip on, saying it was unnecessary. . .guess how Smiler first met Victor’s parents.)

-->In keeping with the tech theme of the actual coaster, I’ve decided that Smiler, like Victor, enjoys building little robots from kits! They generally do more complicated projects than Victor does, though (hell, maybe they’ve done a mini-toy-like take on the Marmalizer, jokingly calling it their “brainwashing bot”), and they’re better at learning code and programming them. They’re also decent with HTML, as evidenced by the fact that, you know, they have a website with videos and suchlike. :p

-->Victor, for his part, gets into repairing and modifying things -- he finds he enjoys learning how things work and how to fix them, or make them work better, or even just look cooler. And he becomes a “right to repair” advocate after he discovers just how fiddly fixing electronics in this day and age can be, and how expensive it is for most people to replace them.

-->Constantly sending them to practice yoga in Sims 4 when I wasn’t sure what else to do with them has cemented in my head that Smiler just does yoga in general! In that same “crop top and short shorts” outfit that they so often wear as a Sim. Victor finds it very distracting. XD

-->Also, as mentioned in the tags of another post, I’ve recently realized that Smiler’s favorite animal is frogs! Probably as a result of all the breeding and collecting I had them do in Sims 4. They just think they’re neat. :) They also like dragonflies too.

-->Some new food headcanons for the trio -- all of their favorite fruits are also involved in their favorite desserts! Victor likes apples, and absolutely loves a good apple pie; Alice favors strawberries, and really enjoys a strawberry cake; and Smiler likes bananas, and will devour a banana split (they also like bananas foster). I think “chocolate cake” would rank as a second-favorite dessert for all of them though -- and I can see them working their way together through one of those big old “bucket” sundaes you can get at Ben & Jerry’s. (Though that would probably best be handled with the help of Victoria and Emily, and/or Oblivion, Th13teen, Rita, and Galactica. . .probably be a good date idea for the Running Headlong Into The Bullshit mega-polycule too XD)

-->As hinted at in the Christmas headcanons post, I’m tempted to have Alice pick up her father’s love of photography to capture special moments. It seems a fun way to carry on the family legacy! Though, yeah, this is something a modern Alice would be more keen on than a Victorian Alice for sure -- less dangerous chemical bullshit going on!

-->This one is a headcanon-in-progress -- part of me feels like Smiler should have or get a tattoo, but I’m not sure where or what. Something fun and colorful, sure, but beyond that. . .I’ve experimented with adding a tattoo in Sims 4′s CAS to my Smiler Always, but nothing really looked right. (Possibly because all of them are tied to such specific parts of the body -- I’d really like it if you could move certain tattoos to different locations!) Hmmm. We’ll see if this one goes anywhere as a result!

Muse-ic and Lyrics

It should come as no surprise to my dear readers that I do a lot of writing. After all, I pepper this blog with regular posts. Beyond that, I remain committed to my story writing despite the fact that I have work and many time-intensive hobbies such as playing video games, streaming TV shows and movies, as well as reading.

Honestly, there simply isn’t enough time in the day. Maybe if I cut out sleep I could do all that I wanted and more? What if I won the lottery and could live a life of luxury forever more?

All tempting propositions, I assure you, dear readers, but all very much in the realm of fantasy.

So, how do I manage to do so many things and manage to listen to the best and brightest compositions from song writers and actual orchestral geniuses?

Well, dear reader, the answer is simple. My writing does not go unaccompanied. Some people might prefer solitude or the rumbling of traffic to score their writing time. I, on the other hand, find it much more difficult to maintain flow if I’m also not jamming out to a lively soundtrack. Yes, yes. I know that other people just like to listen music while on a busy commute or out on the streets but for this blogger, it’s all about rocking out to harpsichords and Gregorian choirs while I’m trying to paint the most outrageous worlds with the help of just text.

Although, of course, there are moments where I might have to pause a piece of music if it proves too distracting for the scene that I’m attempting to write (I really need to learn to outline rather than write everything by the seat of my pants with only vague guidelines to steady the madness of my stories. That’s what editing is for!)

Most of the time, my writing is scored by orchestral music from video games or films. After experimenting over the years, I found it too distracting to listen to actual songs with proper lyrics. Why? Because the lyrics would mix in with the words I’d been trying to convey. It’s also why I hate people trying to talk to me whilst I’m in the middle of a sentence or paragraph and trying to figure out how best to convey what’s happening in my imagination to the proverbial paper.

To be fair, I should probably be listening to lo-fi beats to aid with my concentration but there’s always something great about getting a battle theme pumping through my headphones as I write. There’s just something about it that keeps me motivated to see the scene through (or knock out 200 words for the day [on a side note, the more I hear about outlining and taking time to plot out a scene in order to get down 1000 words within thirty minutes, the more I feel like that’s really something I ought to try for. This whole groping in the dark approach that I do is probably not the best for getting quality work down.]).

And though the music doesn’t often imitate the scene I’m going for, it still somehow manages to keep me invested in the world that I’m building up from scratch.

Mayhaps, though, after this sequel to Wild Child is finished, I’ll move to using dedicated playlists for the stories I write rather than just grooving to whatever is on the Game Show with Meena Shamaly on ABC Classic FM or the strange mix of different music when I listen to a complete OST from a game.

It does, overall, seem better placed than listening to a whole host of music that may or may not be appropriate. After all, if I’m writing a fighting scene it wouldn’t do to have calming field/ town music being played. And if I’m writing something sad or shocking, why should I be listening to an upbeat sunny score that was used for when the video game characters were out on the beach?

Despite these mild quirks, though, I don’t think my writing has been too impaired by what I’ve been listening to - although, perhaps, I might not go back to listening to the soundtracks of The World Ends With You and NEO: The World Ends With You if I’m hoping for a proper productive day of actual story-writing.

So, the next time you see a short story uploaded here on the blog or read a novel-length story on my FictionPress/ Wattpad, know that I did so whilst listening to Animal Crossing or Ori and the Blind Forest or even a hundred-hour-long Japanese role-playing game like Xenoblade Chronicles 3.

Do you tend to speed when you drive? Not on purpose, but it definitely happens. We have a lot of roads round here that go from 40 to 30 then back again in a short space of time and it’s easy to lose track lol.

Do you smoke cigarettes? Not anymore, but I did smoke occasionally as a student.

Does your temper flare a lot? I wouldn’t say so, but I am easily irritated.

Do you get emotional easily? Yes. Not outwardly, though.

Do you get obnoxious when you’re drunk? No, I don’t think so.

Which shoe goes on first? Whichever is closest I think.

Are you lazy? No. I enjoy lazy days and downtime but not at the expense of getting stuff done. I still walk the dog, do housework and keep the house clean etc.

Name one thing you do that people always tell you about. Talk to animals like they’re people.

Are you superstitious? No.

Do you get bored with relationships quickly? No.

Can you sleep without blankets covering you? I CAN, but I’d never choose to. I love being covered and feeling cosy under blankets.

What position do you sleep in? Normally curled up on my side, but sometimes I sleep on my back.

What do you do when you’re angry? Rant, or shut down, depending on the situation.

What do you do when you’re sad? Cry, wallow, watch sad films or listen to sad music.

Who do you call when you have a bad day? My mum.

Did your car ever break down? No, I’ve had a couple of flat tyres but otherwise I’ve been pretty lucky.

What’s your favorite thing to do on the weekend? Horse ride, sleep, watch TV, relax.

What radio station do you listen to most often? Radio One.

What would you do if you found out the world was ending in one week? I mean, there’s not really much I could except carry on as normal, lol.

Do scary movies make you paranoid when you watch them alone? They don’t scare me, I just don’t enjoy them.

What is the worst movie you’ve ever seen? Big Momma’s House 2.

Who was the first person to ever give you flowers? A boy named William when we were about six.
