The hero coughed blood.
Fucking shit, they thought frantically, hand pressed over the gaping wound in their side. Their new opponent packed a serious punch, more than what the agency had expected when they sent the hero out to stop them. Somehow they’d escaped, but not without the nasty stab to their stomach.
Class two villain my ass. The hero grunted as they stumbled into an alleyway, nearly slamming their shoulder into one of the brick walls. They slipped into damp corner and sat down gingerly, their breathing shallow. Cold sweat broke out on their forehead.
They shook the sputtering communication device on their wrist. Busted. The hero suddenly realized with disturbing clarity that they would die here if they didn’t get help soon, bleeding their guts out on the floor.
Blinding pain shot through their torso, and they closed their eyes, muscles clenching. They couldn’t stand up, not without passing out. And with their internal bleeding, pressure to the wound would be largely ineffective.
They were so totally fucked.
“Hero?”
The hero’s lids snapped open. The cloaked figure before them dipped and swayed, but they forced themselves to concentrate. No, that wasn’t their assaulter, that was—
“Villain,” they rasped.
“What are you doing all the way out here?” The villain’s tone was mocking, but could the hero hear a hint of concern?
The hero attempted a sloppy smirk as they approached. “Oh, y’know, just decided to get stabbed and die today. Regular hero shenanigans.” Shit, their words were slurring.
The villain didn’t respond, crouching down in front of them. Their fingers brushed over the throbbing cut on their cheek, ghosted over the bruise on their jaw—it was funny, the hero noted, how the villain's first instinct was to check their face—before trailing down to the still-bleeding wound at their side. Their hand paused.
The silence was so thick that the hero could hear their wavering heartbeat in their ears.
“Who did this to you.” The villain’s words were quiet. Deadly.
The hero choked on a disbelieving laugh. “Like you care,” they wheezed, but even they could hear the doubt in their own voice. When the villain continued to wait for an answer, they added, "One of your lackeys.” Their eyes fluttered as a wave of fatigue overwhelmed them.
The villain snapped their fingers. "Hey, stay with me." They gently removed the hero's limp hand from their side, examining the gash. They swore under their breath.
"That bad, huh," the hero huffed.
“This looks like [other villain]’s work,” the villain muttered. “Destroying your comms, letting you escape with a fatal wound, making you think you’ve gotten away when really,” their eyes slid up to meet the hero’s detached stare, “you’re on the brink of death.”
“How kind of them.”
The villain shook their head. “Why were you even fighting them? They’re superhero’s responsibility. You’re supposed to be going after me.” They paused, gaze darkening. “And only me.”
The hero shrugged minutely. “Agency assignment.” Their muscles clenched as white hot pain rattled through them again, leaving them weaker than ever. “Can you just kill me already? That’s what you came for, isn’t it?” They titled their head back against the wall and closed their eyes, feeling their body grow more distant by the second. “Just fucking do it.”
They heard the villain move, and they waited for the knife against their throat or the gun at their temple, but instead, gloved hands slid under their back and legs, lifting them up.
What? The hero shifted weakly, but the villain shushed them and bundled them closer to their chest.
“No questions. I’ve got you,” the villain murmured, holding them tightly as they sprinted down the alley, making sure they didn’t jostle their injury. “You can sleep now. I’ve got you.”
And the hero, somehow feeling safe in their enemy’s arms and too tired to wonder why they were being saved, succumbed to the pull of unconsciousness not a second later.

Hostage situation
“I’ve been thinking about what you said the other day,” Hero murmured, clacking the silver spoon at the edge of the table, their eyes fixed still on the full plate before them.
“Eat, Hero.”
Their eyebrows furrowed in response, face twisting into a scowl. Hero lifted their head, looking to meet the others' eyes, thinking that, perhaps, they were just as unsure to face truthfully the other as they were.
Villain was not. Brown eyes which shined yellow under the warm light of the room faced them, straight and unwavering.
Hero averted theirs once again.
“You don’t care for what I have to say?”
“Not particularly,” Villain answered, “but if it means a lot to you, go right ahead.”
Hero swallowed
“I’ll take your deal,” they answered, quickly, as fast as they could to disguise the trembling of their voice. “I’ll support your case, I’ll make sure it gets to Superhero, to the President and the Ministry of Security, I’ll get Sidekick back to you.”
Swirling their wine on the cup, white to make good pair with the salmon, Villain nodded, solemnly and slowly, almost doubtfully, and yet the mere hint of a positive answer made Hero’s heart pound inside their chest. Not yet relief but the dread that came right before it.
“Oh Hero,” Villain answered, the tone of pity melting with their words “but you’ve already done that, my sidekick’s being transported to me right now. A hostage exchange if you may.”
The chain on their ankle rattled as they threw themselves back on the chair, blood pumping inside their ears.
“Are you letting me go? Am I going back with Superhero?!”
A moment of silence was followed by a deep, hoarse laugh, rumbling across the room and shaking if ever so slightly the silverware and glasses.
“Of course not sweet, sweet, dumb thing,” they answered “you’re staying right here with me, with us.”
Hero’s heart felt like falling from a thousand floors. And a deep, unescapable sentiment of despair felt like a cold sweat inducing fever dream.
“No!” Hero wailed,  “No, no, no. You said that if, that when you, when Sidekick came back to you you would let me go, you promised! I told you I would take the deal.”
“You were too late, pet, you took too long, I want to keep you now.”

I have a thing for Villains in case you couldn't tell.
°•○
"I want her," Villain says, his eyes fixed on Princess, who glances at her father.
The king blanches, his eyes flicking between the two. "You can't-"
"I definitely can," Villain cut him off. "In return for your kingdom back, I want the princess."
She tilted her head to inspect him. Villain, despite his murderous tendencies, was... well, he was rather handsome, if she was being honest. His eyes bored into her father across the table, betraying his mask of indifference. He lounged in his seat while everyone else seemed on the edge of theirs.
Princess wasn't even supposed to be here. She had come only at Villains' request.
"Father," she started, "perhaps Villain and I can talk this through. Alone."
"Absolutely not," he spat. "You will not taint her with your darkness." The King looked to Villain again, jabbing a finger in his direction. "You will not have her."
Villain, with the slightest nod of his head, forced the king into silence. His burning stare moved to the Princess and he addressed her imperiously. "Come. We will discuss."
Not a soul stopped them. Not when he offered his arm. Not when she took it. Not when he led her through to the gardens.
They made their way to the entrance of the spiralling maze before Villain stopped. "You know my request already."
"You want me."
"I want you."
She extracted her arm from his to fiddle with the ring around her throat. "The last time I saw you, you went by Alias."
His jaw clenched. "My name is Villain."
She did not fight him on that. It wouldn't work. Princess stroked the petal of a lily thoughtfully. "You lied to me. You lied to everyone."
Villain remained silent at her back, and she made no move to speak. The silence lingered around them like a thick, suffocating fog. Her willingness to stagnate the conversation thawed at his resolve. Villain would have taken her in his arms and kissed her until she remembered she loved him had she not turned to face him.
"I have conditions," she said finally. He gestured for her to continue. "I will call you Alias. You will cease this ridiculous reign of terror that you have inflicted upon the land. You can keep Kingdom, that land it rightfully yours - but it will be restored to beauty. No more barren land or shaved forests. I want flowers. I want sunshine."
He was silent while she contemplated what else she wanted. He would give it to her. She was worth her weight in gold and more.
"And..." she hesitated.
"Name it and it is yours."
"I want a puppy."
"What?"
"A puppy. Father never let me have one. He said it would only distract me."
His eyes widened in alarm. "I-"
"You said anything," she countered fiercely. When he nodded in agreement, she turned away from him, satisfied.
His lips twisted. "You will have your puppy. And a wedding."
She whirled around, eyes alight.
"You will be my Queen," he said simply. "That is my only request."
"Deal."
They were a breath apart. His fingers reached out to stroke down her cheek, and Princess leaned into the touch.
"I have missed you," Villain murmured, pulling her close to him.
"What, all that power didn't satisfy you?" She taunted. Still, she was in his arms, not pulling away. His hand tangled in her hair, jerking her head backwards. Princess scowled at him. "Don't be mean."
Instead of claiming her mouth like he wished, he settled for a kiss to her temple, cupping the nape of her neck to hold her close.
"I've only ever wanted you," he said. "Everything else was simply an accessory."
She did not respond, cradled in his arms like something precious.
Like something he needed.

Prompt #226
“What are you doing here?”
Hero shrugged. “Anxious restlessness. Figured I’d crash your place- give myself a distraction.”
“And what? You just assumed I’d be awake at the same time, doing God knows what?”
“Well, yeah. You’re a villain and you’ve only trauma dumped on me every time we’ve fought. I didn’t assume. I knew you would be awake.”

Something Blue
Warnings: I assume none, but if you notice something, let me know! Light angst romance, basically. Heavily based on/ inspired by VOILÀ - Something blue.
The wind is harsh against Villain’s face, prickling his skin with each cold blow. The crisp air bites into his lungs, filling them alongside the deep-settled tightness. When Villain reaches the central square, the sun is high in the sky, but the air lacks the warmth expected from a spring day. She hates it when the noons are this chilly.
The square is already full to the brim, a good half of the city there to witness Hero’s wedding. She’s always been a crowd favourite, and the groom being the mayor’s son only brought more publicity to the event. And Villain… Villain would never be good enough. He hisses at the annoying voice in the back of his head to quiet. The same voice that prompted him to leave before she could, to let her go before he got hurt. He takes in the grandeur of the cathedral, its enormous oak doors decorated with flower arrangements. It looks magnificent. She hates big weddings and magnolias.
It doesn’t take much time to round the square and sneak into the cathedral through a back door. The reality of it all seems to hit Villain much harder once he steps inside. Coming here today was a bad idea. Villain’s fingers curl into fists, his breathing coming out in frantic huffs as he climbs the stairs. A part of him considers turning around right this instant, but he doesn’t allow himself to. Not today. He won’t be a coward again.
He walks past several ajar doors before coming to a halt in front of the only closed one. With a deep breath, Villain pushes it open. Hero is standing in front of a full-length mirror, and she looks stunning. His breath hitches in his throat, every single thought leaving his mind the second his eyes lock onto her form. She doesn’t seem to notice him yet, so he shuts the door behind his back, careful not to make any noise as he steps closer. She keeps fidgeting with the hair framing her face in soft brown waves. She hates having her hair up.
Villain stops behind her, his mind racing. He rakes a hand through his hair, brushing the dark strands back from his forehead, and before his brain can comprehend what he’s doing, his arm wraps around her middle, pulling her back against his chest.
“You look beautiful,” his voice murmurs against her ear. Hero shudders, her eyes flying up to meet his gaze through the mirror. Her lips press into a thin line. Don’t do this to me. Villain’s arm tightens around her. “Absolutely ravishing.”
“Don’t lie,” Hero leans back into him, allowing her head to rest against his shoulder. “White was never my colour. Good thing I don’t own this dress.” She shrugs, her tone a tad too impassive for his liking.
Villain lets out a light chuckle, yet his sharp eyes remain pained. He wouldn’t give a damn what she wore if only it was him with her. “It’s something borrowed then?”
“What?” Hero tilts her head to look at him, still wrapped in his arms. Her eyebrow raises quizzically, when he doesn’t loosen his hold. She hates the way his body fits against hers so well.
“You know how that thing goes? Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue.” Villain lists, not registering when his thumb starts rubbing soothing circles into her forearm.
She laughs, but it doesn’t reach her hazy brown eyes. Villain’s chest tightens as he watches her expression. He loved how her eyes would shine, and her nose would scrunch when she laughed with her full heart. How she laughed with him.
“I'm the old, and he's the new,” he explains, pausing to swallow the lump of emotions in his throat. “And since he gave you the borrowed dress, I figured it should be me that gives you something blue.”
Hero’s heart slams against her ribcage with a savage force. She wants to push him away, to yell at him, to demand for him to leave and never show his face again after how he abandoned her for idiotic reasons. Instead, her teeth sink into the inside of her cheek. “Oh?”
“Remember the time when I bought you a locket in the flea market?” Villain recalls, watching her breathing pattern go from frenzied to still. Hero goes rigid in his arms, her irises blown wide, not daring to take a breath in for fear of losing it entirely. “Where did it go?”
“I- I must have lost it,” her voice is small, words tumbling off her lips almost unconsciously.
“Feels symbolic, don’t you think?” Villain’s hands leave her body as he pulls the locket with a blue stone embedded in its ornaments out of his pocket. He moves her hair to the side and fastens the clasp, his fingers brushing against the side of her neck in a tender touch. He gulps, his darkened eyes locking onto the reflection of her watering ones. “Like losing your love and having to watch it.”
He can’t stop himself as his head dips into the crook of her neck, eyebrows furrowing when his lips leave a lingering kiss against her bare shoulder, sending a chill of goosebumps along her spine.
Hero lets out a shaky exhale, averting her eyes from the mirror. She hates that he is here. She hates that he’s wearing a black suit with a white shirt. She hates that he looks dashing, too. She hates how perfect they look together. She hates how he could… “It’s cold for a wedding, isn’t it?”
Villain withdraws despite his reluctance, his fingers twitching to take hold of her again until he wraps his arm around her waist. “Are your feet getting cold?” He attempts to sound lighthearted, but the quiver of his voice gives it all away.
Hero shakes her head, her dejected expression wrenching Villain’s heart in a way he didn’t think possible before. “They were never warm in the first place.”
He doesn’t know how to take that. He doesn’t know how to take any of this anymore. It feels like the sky is shattering over his head, burying him alive.
“There's something I must confess,” Hero whispers as if saying it louder would mar the sanctity of the cathedral walls. She disentangles from Villain’s arms, stepping towards the door as Canon in D begins playing. “I wish it was you instead.”
She offers him one last glance before stepping out the door, a trembling hand clasped over her mouth to keep the sobs raking through her body from escaping.
Her words echo in Villain’s mind like a tocsin as he rushes through the doors, only to catch a glimpse of her as she begins walking down the aisle. He walks in, remaining at the doors as she reaches the altar. He knows he should wait on the priest to give him the time to speak, but his stomach is in knots, adrenaline rushing through his blood like a fire ready to burn the damn church down.
Dearly beloved, we're gathered here today…
“To watch a big mistake,” Villain’s voice booms through the nave of the cathedral, reflecting off of the vault and spilling down onto the guests’ heads, which snap to stare at him as he steps forward.
“I'm not gonna hold my peace,” Villain meets Hero’s tormented gaze, her throat closing in as she sees his face contorted in a mixture of pain and desperation. “I’m not gonna…” He pauses, his breath hitching when the flames reach his chest, burning a hole through his lungs. “What I mean to say is, my feelings haven't changed.”
Hero’s blood runs cold. She’s frozen in place, watching him approach her with an unreadable expression while her groom growls something in her ear with a displeased expression. For better or for worse, Villain can’t hear what he’s saying to her.
He knows coming here today was a bad idea. Watching Hero today was supposed to desecrate whatever was left of his heart, to wreck the shrine of her in his chest, to utterly and wholly rip him apart.
But...
But then she takes his hand, meeting his pleading gaze as tears brim her eyes. Villain brings her hand up, pressing it to his lips before pulling her towards him as they sprint down the aisle. He leads her out through the same back door he came through and along narrow sidestreets away from the crowded square. By the time her groom stops throwing a fit, Hero is in Villain’s car as he drives them out of the city, his hand still clutching hers tightly. He brings it up to his lips again, turning to look at Hero, cast in the afternoon sun. She looks otherworldly with her hair down, playing in the wind.
“White is absolutely your colour,” he mutters softly, his eyes darting down to his shirt on her, her dress left somewhere along the road.
Hero snorts, shaking her head as she shifts closer, leaning her head on his shoulder, her hand in his tight hold. He still can’t wrap his head around the events of the day, but he can lace his fingers through hers. He can kiss the tip of her nose and make her scrunch it as she giggles. He can kiss her smiling lips over and over again. He can pull her into his chest and hold her close to his heart.
Villain will be damned if he lets go again.

One of my two personal favorite character types - opposites kinda, are
A) Nice, bad person
B) Mean, good person.
What I mean is that, A would most likely steal candy from a store just to give it to a sad child. A would stab or torture a person if they were shitty to their friend. Or hell, stab a or torture a person for some other goal, while not holding the least bit resentment towards them at all, acting casual and polite during the whole ordeal. A would open the door for you, when just last night they robbed a bank. Nice, kind manners, bad morals.
B, meanwhile, will tell you to fuck off if you get too close to them in public, yet the next moment give up their seat for an elderly person. B will openly look down on and avoid talking to their annoying neighbor, yet jump into a flaming building to save their life. B would help capturing A after the bank robbery and refuse to hurt them in any way during the process, leaving the justice to proper authorities.
They're both good, and bad. Just in ways I can't help finding magnificently fascinating to explore.

Step Out of Line
Tw: whump, stabbing, blood, near death experience, dagger mention, Supervillain whumper, Hero whumpee, sadistic whumper (guys I swear it sounds bad but there is caretaking at the end)
@epiclamer I saw your plea in the gc for hero whumpee and villain caretaker. So I was inspired and wrote this, pls accept my offering
Tumblr media
Hero groaned as they crashed hard into the concrete. They practically tasted it with how close their head came to smashing into it. Their open cuts and wounds screamed as they hit the floor. The rough concrete scraped against them, each second laying there felt like daggers poking their skin.
Hero laid there dizzily, coughing for a few seconds. Was that blood that just came out of their mouth? Their vision started blurring together. They slowly looked up, two pairs of feet stood in front of them, who else joined the fight?
They blinked a couple times at the figures, struggling to keep their head up. After another few seconds of this, the two pairs of feet merged into one. No one else joined the fight, it was just their vision lying to them.
Hero shakily started to stand up, despite every part of their body just telling them to give up. They were a hero, they could not lay there in defeat. Supervillain stood in front of them and if they could just get one really good punch in, they might just be able to defeat them-
They felt their legs collapse out from under them, and Hero landed back on their stomach. The cool, rugged pavement greeted them once more. They could hear maniacal laughter echoing off the brick alleyway walls behind them.
Hero breathed heavily, they pushed off the ground, oh they could see the dark red blood now. They slowly turned over to lay on their back so they could actually see. More laughing filled their ears, Supervillain crouched down next to their fallen form.
Out of the corner of their eye, they could see something in the evil doer’s hand. Despite the darkness of the alley, Hero could see the almost blinding flash of metal. A dagger, their vision focused just enough to see the outline of a small blade.
Their heartbeat raced, it must have been out of fear. Was Supervillain going to finish the job right there? They didn’t want to die that way. Dying to the filthy hands of Supervillain like so many others before them. Just add them to the list of fallen heroes. Hero would be just like the others, nothing special.
Supervillain held an evil glint in their eye, grinning as they took pleasure in putting the blade directly in their face so Hero could see. “Given up yet Hero? It does not matter, you do not have a choice anyways. You will be dead in a minute.”
“N-no-“ Hero whimpered, oh so desperately trying to back away in their weakened state.
Supervillain only cackled more, grabbing their feet and dragging them back over, which only made Hero cry out in pain.
Without warning, they elicited a scream as Supervillain took their blade and stabbed Hero.
They couldn’t tell where, but the pain felt absolutely horrible. Another thing they knew is that they passed out soon after.
. . .
Hero stirred on something.. soft? Were they hallucinating the comfortable surface to escape the feeling of the wretched concrete?
They opened their eyes but they were impaled by light, which confused them, wasn’t it still night time?
Hero took a minute to adjust to the light, blinking rapidly until it felt like the light no longer hurt them. They looked around the room, this clearly was not the alley, their mind had not been playing tricks on them either.
They were laying on a worn in couch, a soft blanket had been pulled all the way up to their chin. They looked under the blanket and saw bandages wrapped around their stomach, arms, and a cast on their leg. They also noticed bandages around their hands too when lifting the blanket. None of them felt too tight either, whoever did it must have taken great care.
The living room the couch sat in appeared to be small, but it was neat and tidy. They wonder what civilian rescued them, at least they hoped a civilian saved them and they were not with Supervillain. That would be so very cruel, they would rather have died on the pavement than see their face after they had given Hero a false sense of safety.
While scanning their surroundings, their eyes drifted over to the doorway that led to the kitchen. Their eyes widened in shock. Standing there staring at them was not a civilian at all or Supervillain, it was Villain. And they were holding a bowl of chicken noodle soup?
Villain must of been bad news, they started to sit up and pull the blanket off them, but they stopped halfway through, hissing in pain.
Villain rushed over and set the soup on the coffee table in front of the couch. They immediately pushed Hero to lay back down on the couch. “What are you thinking?? If you opened any of your wounds because of this- I swear to gods-“ They groaned thinking about it, shaking their head.
Hero hesitated, they did not move or say anything. That only caused Villain to sigh as they gently helped them into sitting position. They grabbed the bowl of soup directly after, pulling a chair up to sit next to the couch Hero sat on.
Hero looked at the soup with unease. They could not deny that it smelled absolutely delicious and their stomach had definitely been growling, but what if Villain put something in it? “Is that poisoned?”
“What kind of question is that? Of course not,” Villain scoffed. “You are in my home, I plan on taking care of you.”
Hero still looked at the bowl in their nemesis’s hands, unsure. Which in turn only drew out a long sigh from the villain.
“Why would I poison you after taking the time to bandage you up, if you haven’t noticed them already. Let me tell you that it took forever.” Villain gestured to Hero’s hand for reference. “I’m a villain, but if you think I’m cruel enough to bandage you all up just to kill you- I’m offended,” they rolled their eyes dramatically.
“Now watch, Hero.” They took a spoonful of the soup that they made and ate it. They swallowed and gave them an “I told you so” sort of expression. Hero looked sheepish after, letting out a small “oh.”
Villain hummed and held up another spoonful of the chicken noodle soup. “Open your mouth.”
Hero gave them a confused look again, “Are you going to try to feed me?”
Villain still held the utensil in front of the crime-stopper. “Yes,” they said simply.
“But that is embarrassing-! Please just let me feed myself,” Hero complained. They weren’t injured so much so that they could not eat the soup themself.
“Not as embarrassing as trying to challenge someone as powerful as Supervillain. I found you left for dead in that alleyway, and goodness knows you could have died if I didn’t save you. Now open up.” This time Villain did not sound like they were joking. They were stern, but they also held a touch of worry in their voice.
Hero lowered their gaze to the blanket on their lap out of shame and embarrassment. Villain had immediately shut down their complaints just with that explanation alone.
“Why did you help me?” Hero asked quietly. “I’m a hero, I try to arrest you. This goes against what villains sort of well.. do.”
Villain let the spoon fall back into the bowl. They shook their head at Hero. “No, villains break rules and accepted norms dearest Hero, and saving you did just that. I did not step out of line if I was not following a line to begin with.”
Hero only stared at Villain. When they held the spoon up to them once again, this time they reluctantly opened their mouth and accepted the food. And consequently, Villain’s help.

Oh, What Alcohol Can Reveal
Hero opened the door to the solemn face of Villain. Villain wore a long dark coat paired with a black button up shirt and black pants. It looked like a less Villainy version of their normal outfit.
“Bit morose for a trip to the pub don’t you think?” Hero smirked.
Villain glared, “I think it encompasses my feeling of being forced to go to a pub, no less with you.”
“Like I could force you to do anything.”
Villain smirked and gestured to ask if they could be let in. Hero stepped aside and mockingly opened their arms wide in welcome to the apartment. Villain slowly picked their way through the mess that coated the floor and settled onto the couch, after moving a stack of newspapers.
“I’m nearly finished getting ready, I’ll just be a few minutes,” Hero said before walking away.
Villain nodded and surveyed the apartment. They’d been in here before, but not often. Barely anything had changed since they’d been here a year ago. A new painting has been added to a wall but other than that, nothing. Although, the apartment was a lot messier than it used to be. Piles of clothes sat in corners, magazines covered every surface, dishes were stacked high in the small kitchen, altogether it was kind of gross. Despite themselves, the Villain started to clean the apartment. Just small things like grouping all the magazines together in a few piles, throwing out all the crumpled paper that littered the ground. They avoided the dishes and the piles of clothes, that was too far (and took too long to do).
By the time the Hero emerged the apartment was noticeably more organised even if it was still covered in junk.
“You cleaned?” Hero looked confused.
“Because you obviously no longer know how to,” Villain stated airily.
Hero just raised an eyebrow in scepticism, “if you hid a bomb or something I’m going to be so disappointed.”
“I didn’t hide anything, idiot. I just couldn't bear to sit in this filth for more than a minute.”
Hero just shrugged and headed to the door. Villain shook their head and followed. After locking the apartment door, they headed downstairs.
Since Villain had been vehement against the idea of taking public transport Hero decided they might as well walk. The pub was only about a ten minute walk away after all.
After a silent walk, filled with uncomfortable silence and small glares from Villain, they arrived.
As they entered, they were hit with a wave of hot air that heavily contrasted with the blistering cold outside. Straight away Villain scrunched their nose and looked disgusted at the pub and the people within it.
“Go find a table and I’ll go get us some drinks!” Hero yelled over the noise of the crowd.
Villain just nodded. They found a booth table right in the back of the pub. If they had to be here, they would be as far away from the actual activities of the place as they could. They hated the noise and the pungent alcohol smell paired with the body odour of unwashed alcoholics. They hated how everything was sticky, everything. They felt infested by the very air of the place which surely stored a multitude of diseases and human filth. They suddenly wished they hadn’t worn their favourite coat because now they were going to have to burn it. A true tragedy.
Soon enough Hero found them, holding two pints of some sort of beer in their hands. They sat down and carefully sat the dangerously filled glasses on the table.
“I got to the bar and realised I had no idea what you liked to drink so I just got both of us a beer,” Hero pushed it towards Villain, “don’t ask me what type though.”
Villain looked at them, wondering if this had all been a ruse to poison them. Invite them out for a night and then drug them in a public place where they could conceal their malicious intentions with ease. Villain realised that calling the Hero malicious or evil in any way was a blatant lie no matter the circumstance. They were basically an angel. With that thought they decided to just go for it. They took a gulp of the beer and nearly gagged at the taste. Across the table Hero seemed to be in a similar situation, except they really did gag.
“This is disgusting, Hero.”
“Yea, sorry,” Hero said, taking another sip and immediately regretting it.
Villain just shook their head and went and got them each some more drinks.
After a few hours and, admittedly, a few too many drinks Villain seemed to be relaxing. They were getting louder and more boisterous, seeming to be influenced by the mood that floated throughout the pub. They were chatting and humming to the music. Hero couldn’t help but feel proud that they had coaxed this out of Villain. They were both slumped over the table, exchanging comments and grins.
Suddenly Villain sat up, looking and listening.
“What's wrong?” Hero asked, sitting up as well.
Villain grasped their wrist and pulled them away from the table. Looking around, Hero realised they were now in the middle of the pub, which was used as a makeshift dance floor for the drunk and sober alike. They looked at Villain, questioning.
“I fucking love this song,” Villain said passionately.
Hero grinned openly at Villain. Villain grasped them again, but this time started moving them to the music. It was an upbeat song filled with moments of yelled out lyrics. And Villain proudly sung every lyric while twirling Hero around. Hero couldn’t stop laughing, filled to the brim with a swell of unbridled joy.
Everyone in the pub had joined in by the end of the song, some knowing the lyrics and others not caring and joining in otherwise. It filled the building and was exhilarating. Villain grinned from ear to ear not taking their eyes off of Hero. They both spun and sang and danced until the song ended. They were left panting and sharing grins.
They continued this way until they stumbled their way out of the pub at some point in the early morning. Walking back to Hero’s apartment they hung off of each other. It took a few tries for Hero to unlock the door but eventually they made it home.
Villain cringed at the state of the apartment, “seriously though you need to clean.”
“I’m busy,” Hero collapsed onto the couch.
“With what?”
“Stopping you and your friends from destroying the world.”
“You never used to be too busy.”
“I just am now,” Hero snapped at Villain.
Villain raised their eyebrows. Hero looked away.
“You’re hiding something,” Villain said it matter of factly, no question involved.
“I’m not,” Hero answered anyway.
Villain’s eyes bored into Hero. Hero got uncomfortable and stood up, the alcohol muddling their usually logical responses to Villain’s interrogations. Hero decided it would be best to just walk away. So they did, without a word.
“Hero.”
Hero ignored them collapsing into their bed. Someone collapsed onto the other side.
“Who is it?”
“What?” Hero grunted, confused.
“The person you’re seeing? That’s surely the only reason you no longer have the time to take care of yourself. Are you always over at their place?”
Hero laughed, actually laughed, “I’m not seeing anyone,” at a scoff of disbelief they added; “honestly. It’s too hard in this line of work. Too complicated.”
“Okay who is it you’re crushing on then?”
Villain saw Hero’s ears turn red, and presumably the face hidden in their pillow was just as red.
“No one,” came the muffled reply.
“Bullshit.”
“Fuck off.”
“Not until you tell me who it is,” Villain settled further into the bed.
Hero groaned and raised their head to see how serious Villain was. Villain held their gaze steadily. Hero groaned again and dropped their head.
After a few minutes Hero whispered something.
“What?”
“It’s you,” came a slightly louder whisper.
Villain stared at Hero. They watched as once again the pair of ears turned bright red.
It was cute.
They must have taken too long to respond because Hero shifted and sat up. Their face was blank, and the only sign of any previous embarrassment was the fading red in their cheeks. It was kind of scary.
“I’m sorry. I shouldn't have said that. You don’t have to worry about it,” Hero stood up out of the bed and seemed to be distancing themselves from Villain, “I’ll see you at work then I guess.”
Villain stood up as well.
“I hope we can keep things professional,” Hero rambled on, “nothing has to change. Just pretend like nothing-”
Hero was abruptly cut off by a pair of lips slamming against theirs. Immediately they leaned into the kiss, breath snatched away from them.
Villain had effectively cut off their nervous rambling.
Eventually Hero pulled back gasping for air. Villain pulled back as well but kept their arms around Hero, a smug smirk tugged on their mouth.
“You’re an idiot, but you’re my crush too.”
Hero grinned openly at Villain and Villain couldn’t help but grin back.
“Good.”

An Alliance
CW: blood, swearing
Hero shifted on their feet, waiting wasn't their strong suit, but waiting for their enemy to walk through the door was even more nerveracking.
Finally, thirty minutes after the agreed time, the shed door creaked open.
"Good God, Villain! Could you have taken any long-" Hero started, but cut themself off as they saw the person in the door.
It was the person they'd been waiting for, no doubt, but their appearance threw Hero off. Their clothes were torn, and they were leaning over, holding their bloodied side.
"I'm so sorry, Hero." They sneered, their eyes narrowing.
Hero stumbled over their words, but eventually managed to get a sentence out.
"What happened to you?"
Instead of replying, Villain tried to move forward, making it less than a few steps before they tumbled. Hero caught them a moment before they hit the ground.
"Get your fucking hands off me."
Hero didn't listen, lifting Villain up and wrapping their arms around Villain's waist.
Hero led them to the back of the shed and helped them into a sitting position on the edge of a table.
Digging through their bag, Hero pulled out a role of bandages. "Here we go. Now, can you tell me what happened?"
『••✎••』
Swallowing blood, Villain grumbled. They didn't want to tell them, and they wanted even less to let Hero patch them up, but it didn't seem they had a choice anymore.
"I got attacked."
Hero froze, their hands inches from Villain's skin. "By who?"
"Doesn't matter. What did you want to meet up about, anyway?"
Hero stood up, slamming their hands down on either side of Villain. Their stare was filled with a kind of anger Villain had never seen before, even when they fought.
"Villain," they said quietly but fiercely, "who did this to you?"
They gulped. It took an embarrassing amount of effort to tear their gaze from Hero's lips, but they did, meeting their eyes with their own glare.
"It. Doesn't. Matter."
Villain saw Hero's mouth twitch, and turned away, trying to ignore the heat in their face.
But Hero wasn't having it. They placed two fingers under the criminal's mouth and lightly nudged it back towards them. Their faces were inches apart, and Villain could feel Hero's hot breath against their face.
Then, they repeated their words, this time gentler.
"Who did this to you?"
Villain looked into their dark eyes, filled with less hatred and more, worry?
That couldn't have been right. Why would the crime-fighting, noble asshat care about an enemy?
"No one." Villain whispered, still unable to look away. "Can you just, drop it for now?"
Hero sighed and dropped their hand, turning back to the first-aid kit next to them.
"For now. But don't think you're getting away with this, Villain."

Love
“You won’t allow yourself to be loved,” Villain declared, final, convinced, as if telling a hard fact and not a simple opinion, an irrelevant opinion Hero could think, if barely, at the back of their mind, as their head laid against Villain’s shoulder, too weak to move “So I won’t give you the choice anymore.”
A hand stroked their hair and cupped their neck, leaning it against the Villain, the other hand drew circles in their back, aiming to sooth the terror that could be felt in the goosebumps on their skin, and the racing heart that rumbled loudly.
“Not… love.” Hero managed to utter, nausea rising to their mouth.
“Not love? What, this?” Villain laughed wholeheartedly “And how would you know, pretty? If you’ve never been loved before.”
Hero growled in discomfort, Villain shushed them in response, steadying both straight as they sat on the floor.
“It’s okay Hero, I won’t hurt you. I know it’s difficult for you to be vulnerable, but I assure you, you will be so loved with me you’ll yearn for nothing. I’ll keep you safe.”

Part 1
This will have a part 2 as soon as i get round to editing it
°•○
Hero was settling in for the night, turning on the TV with a cup of fresh coffee and newspaper when the news broke.
------------------------------------------
Breaking: Investagative Crime Journalist missing
------------------------------------------
Reporter, lead journalist last seen three days ago undercover at Businessman, Villain's nightclub before declared Missing
------------------------------------------
TodayNews: Newscaster missing after Case Gone Wrong
------------------------------------------
Hero slams his glass down. It can't be. She wouldn't. He had told Reporter not to investigate Villain - she was too young, it was too dangerous. She couldn't - she wouldn't go behind his back like this... would she?
"Trust me," he had said to her, "I know what I'm talking about."
"I'll do what I like, dad- I've been in worse situations thanks to you." That cut to the bone. She had gathered up the files and evidence then, leaving him with "I won't do anything too stupid. Don't worry."
He was stupid to have believed her.
She was as stubborn as her mother and determined as him and Hero could be nothing short of proud, angry as he was.
Now, pinching the bridge of his nose, Hero made an attempt at regulating his breathing.
It didn't work.
So he does what Hero does best: he suits up.
°•○
"Reporter."
She groans.
"Reporter."
She grumbles something about man-eating cupcakes and turns back onto her stomach. "Five more minutes."
"Sweetheart." Cold fingers trail up her naked spine to her neck, brushing against the curve of her ear and back down. "It's time to get up."
Reporter twists around, a smile forming on her face.
Villain moves her hair over her shoulder and leans down to rub his nose against hers. "It's past two in the afternoon."
"I don't care," she groans, arching up to kiss him - and despite the afternoon sun ricocheting off the crystal of his watch, he obliges her for a minute. Or two. Or three.
"No," he mumbles into her mouth, already pulling away, "no darling, not now."
"Then let me sleep."
Villain chuckles in response and straightens the cuffs Reporter had gripped and wrinkled. "Today we stage your return."
"Can't I just... stay?"
Villain laughs and reaches for her. "Hero is on his way. My spies have seen him gallivanting this way."
"You mean he's flying at top speed to the Nightclub." Reporter sits against the headboard, tucks the sheet artfully around her so that it covers enough to entice Villain. It works, because she watches the way his eyes darken at the move, his thumb coming up to rub against his bottom lip while he rakes his gaze over her.
"God, I love you."
She smiles. "I know."
"What kind of response is that?"
Her eyes crinkle into a bigger smile. "Your minions are adorable. Do you know one called me ma'am?"
"Was it Mick? Cury brown hair, shit eating grin - doesn't take anything seriously but he's really polite."
"I think so." Reporter looks down. "How are we going to do this?"
"We-"
Villain is cut short by a knock on the door. Mick pokes his head in, a deep blush colouring his cheeks and his eyes never leaving Villain, though it's strained in the way his eyes flick anywhere but to Reporter. She pulls the sheet up higher and hugs a pillow close to her.
"Hero is at the Club."
Villain's smile is all teeth. He looks at Reporter. "Shall we?"

Prompt #229
“Well?”
“Well, I can see the exhaustion on your face and I’m deciding this fight isn’t worth my time. I would win, and I want to feel as though I earned it. This”- Villain gestured at the baggy-eyed hero- “is not a win.”

Black hole
Part 2 for the Wedding bells snippet. The next parts can be found here and the finale.
The moment their eyes land on the ring, Hero jerks up. The slumber is chased from their eyes as their pulse picks up. It seems to be racing against time itself, frantic to comprehend the wave of heat crushing over Hero's head. They sit up in their bed, staring at their left hand. They know this ring. They've seen it one too many times in their dreams to forget its familiar weight on their finger.
They fold their elbow, allowing their hand to balance in the air. It doesn't feel foreign at all. Though it should. Hero was never a fan of jewellery, and it's not like their line of work allowed it, so they never wore much. But this, it feels comfortable. Like it belongs on their finger. Like it's always been there.
Hero exhales loudly, waving their hands over their face to counter the heat that blushes their cheeks. The movement sends a sharp jolt of pain between their ribs, causing them to stop with a hiss. Wait. Hero carefully peels their shirt off, examining their wound - a treated wound, mind you.
How the hell... and who..?
They stop mid-thought. It seems they attempted to ignore a certain constant in their dreams for far too long. It's time they found out the truth of what was happening with their mind and, apparently, now body as well. And there's only one way to do it.
The bell chimes, announcing the arrival of a new customer. The coffee shop is rather empty for a Saturday morning, and Hero assumes not many were willing to wake up this early for a cup of coffee. Only two customers are waiting for their orders, and three more are at the counter.
Hero gets in line behind Villain, standing a little closer than necessary to whisper into their ear. "Hi."
"Jesus Christ," Villain jumps, glancing around to locate the intruder. "You scared the fuck out of me!" They complain, turning back aroun to face the counter and avoid Hero's scanning eyes.
"Since when are you scared of me?" Hero chuckles at their back, unfazed by the hostility. They need answers, and Villain's mood is of no concern to them. "Is that a new development?"
"Fuck off, I'm not committing a crime," their nemesis retorts, rolling their eyes at the customer in front of them that is taking their sweet time choosing a goddamn drink. Villain cannot fathom what could be taking this long.
"Are you not?" Hero muses, nudging their arm as they come to stand side by side. Villain's face is void of emotions despite the harshness of their words.
"We're in a coffee shop - you think I'm that desperate?" Villain quirks a brow. They sigh in relief when the person in front of them finally makes a choice, stepping aside to wait for their order.
"I don't know," Hero admits, but as Villain steps to the counter, they think of a way to test the waters. "Be a darling - grab me a coffee."
With that, Hero walks towards the corner table. Villain is stunned by the sudden change in their interaction style but shrugs and - much to Hero's surprise - obeys.
When they place the paper cup in front of Hero, they only hum in appreciation. As Villain sits opposite them, Hero decides to keep their charade up. They shrug their coat off, visibly wincing at the excessive movement.
"Does it still hurt?" Villain asks without thinking. Hero can bet they don't realise what they said yet. Just how far away is your mind?
"Yeah, it's a nasty cut," they take a sip of their coffee and have to stop a satisfied groan from escaping. Villain nods, staring out of the window absentmindedly.
Hero watches their face, noting their bloodshot eyes and bitten lips, before glancing at their long fingers wrapped around their cup and not finding a matching band. "Where's your ring?"
It's entirely out of the blue, and Villain is positively out of it because they reply before they can process the question and its implications. "I left it on the sink."
"After washing my blood off your hands?" Hero's intense gaze finally manages to draw Villain's attention.
"Wait, what?" Their face remains composed, but the storm in their eyes is a combination of shock and horror. Their fingers grip the poor paper cup until it bends in, causing the hot liquid to spill over their fingers, slightly burning their skin. Villain can't feel it.
"It was real, wasn't it?" Hero asks though the answer is clear now. They grab a napkin and reach for Villain's hand, forcing them to place the cup down.
"I don't know what you're talking about," it's a poor attempt at a save, given the tightness in their voice, but Villain had to try. Their brain is foggy with anxiety and something else they won't name because hope is a luxury they cannot afford. Not unless they are sure.
"Mhm," Hero nods and finishes with their fingers, discarding the napkin on the table before looking up at them. Villain struggles to keep their face emotionless when Hero's palm covers their knuckles gently. "So you guessed I was wounded?"
"You're always wounded. I'm used to your clumsiness," Villain jerks their hand away from Hero's grip, trying their best to sound snarky. "Tactical research, is all."
"Does knowing my coffee order provide a tactical advantage as well?" Hero quips, leaning back against their chair. Their ribs feel like they are about to crumble in, but their wound doesn't seem to be the sole reason.
"If I choose to poison you," Villain hates the way their stomach turns when Hero gives them a lopsided grin, their lips parting enough to reveal their front teeth.
Villain loves that goddamn grin so fucking much.
"You mean to tell me it was all a dream?" Hero takes a sip of their drink, watching Villain fumble over the brim of their cup.
"Of course," Villain confirms in a decently confident tone, twisting the napkin between their fingers until it rips. "In what world would I marry you?"
Got you.
"Sure," Hero has to press their lips together to keep their smile at bay. They wait for a moment to make sure their voice is stable and to let the tension brew. If Villain's twitching is any sign at all, they are doing a fantastic job of it. "I didn't mention the wedding, though."
Shit.
Villain bites their tongue as hard as they can. They taste blood, but that's what they get for not keeping their godforsaken mouth shut. Hero's stare is unrelenting and curious.
"You know I always feel sick when you use your powers on me. No wonder I've been so sick recently," Hero is right, they know that. They know everything about Hero, in fact. It doesn't make this any easier. "You're gonna have to explain what's going on."
"I-" Villain sighs, shaking their head. The sheer terror of telling Hero what's happening overwhelms them. There is no way they can put into words just what they've been going through.
The scope of their misfortune borders catastrophic ranges, with them caged in the very centre of the black hole that keeps compressing inside, threatening to shatter the universe over their head while they watch.
All they can do is watch.
Over and over again until their mind breaks.
