The way they help each other. Even when there is nothing they can do about a situation. The offer stands. No judgment. Unconditionally.

The thing with promising someone that they can ask for something "any time" is that they will do it, even if it's at an unconventional time.

When you're not ready to be compassionate or selfless or mindful of other people, they will still ask because you didn't apply boundaries to the situation. They will ask for that car ride or ask to be paid back even if you don't feel like driving and you don't want to spend money because you want to buy yourself a video game.

You handed them the ball and said "here, jump into the game whenever you want" and then sat down expecting to have a cup of tea and a nap and not deal with it until YOU'RE ready to play again, and that's not how that works. Helping people is not always helpful to you! Helping people isn't a "I get a benefit for giving someone something" most of the time!

If you're not ready to be helpful without immediately expecting to be showered with the world's gifts and getting something 2x better back within a week, if you're not ready to be helpful when someone asks for help on your sleep-in days or your lazy days, don't give them that bs "you can ask for this any time you feel like it". Bc that's simply not true and you only want the brownie points of being an unconditional supporter without the ability to back it up

I couldn't get up for work this morning and called in sick when I really should have (and, probably, could have) forced myself into movement. I sent my regards then went back to bed.

I did manage to get up later on for class, although I was still late. I didn't do much, didn't socialize, and returned home only to sleep again.

I slept something upwards of thirteen hours today, a response that I can only attribute to being my system's mode of recovery following an existential crisis-induced anxiety attack spanning over the course of the past weekend.

I had yet to shower today, I barely ate and my room still looked like the post-holiday hurricane. I felt unclean, unenergized and unmotivated.

Somehow, this evening I still managed to workout; And then I managed to clean up a little bit; And then I managed to pick an outfit for tomorrow and followed up with a game plan and goals for the day.

I was disappointed in myself for how I approached this Monday. Although he said all that mattered was that I turned a bad day into an okay day. And that he was proud.

Unconditional love feels good. I hope I can find more of it within me to offer it to myself the way he does.

I’ve had a lot of people ask me why I’ve stayed with someone who had an affair and why I continue to stick by my husband and protect him. And other than the obvious answer of I love him, the answer I always give is “It’s my job. Just because he failed at his, doesn’t mean I have to fail at mine.” The Bible teaches us to always show others how we want to be treated.
