Right sorry but I don't understand why some people, even people that seem otherwise reasonable, seem to have absolutely internalised corporate capitalism talk to the extent that it completely subsumes their own personality and (class) interests???
At work today we had what's supposed to be an evaluation where as a department we, about 40 people, talked about things that have been difficult this year and what we'd hope will improve next year.
So I talked about how this year I have worked a lot of cover, including for managers (2 pay bands above me) and for multiple colleagues at once who have been off, essentially doubling and at some times even tripling my workload - for extra stress and no extra money. I said (using corporate language to hint) that I wasn't always good at asking for help, meaning, undertone, none of you offered to help me out and just expected me to sit and take it because I need my existing salary.
So this was in small groups, in which the focus was firstly giving feedback, and secondly remembering to praise each other for our achievements.
Well the nominated speaker for our group comes on and immediately my story of struggling to do a large amount of extra tasks that are essentially literally taking advantage of someone in a position of little power, actively causing stress to myself at work, for no extra money or any kind of reward but 'helping out the team' is told to the group as "sometimes we had to take on extra responsibilities but that was good because it let us learn about our inner strength and learn more about the business, increasing our skills for the future".
Excuse me! That was not AT ALL what I was talking about!
I already work a valuable job in healthcare. I ALREADY have skills - HENCE I was able to cover for senior team members and keep everything running and going literally at the cost of my social life, mental and physical health. And you aren't even going to say thanks or well done?! In the meeting where that is meant to be the focus?? In fact you're actually going to remove my agency and reframe the story of my own struggle and sacrifice to help out that I told you into some kind of heartwarming Disney ending where the servant felt that the work was its own reward?!
No sorry, get to fuck with that.
Ironically as a result of the teambuilding, feedback, evaluation and celebrating success meeting, I've come out feeling absolutely disheartened. They were like robots. I wasn't the only one that's made sacrifices like this this year, but I was the only one who didn't try and reframe it into a positive, with a neat learning experience and lesson for the group at the end of it.
This is the same workplace that asked us what we would like to add to the workplace to improve our own wellbeing (I reiterate, working in a stressful healthcare provider) and then shot down everything we suggested, even those things that wouldn't involve paying us more or giving us more time off. We were told that we could work longer hours in order to be able to 'earn' a team 'lunch out' during the work day (that of course we would also pay for), or that we could do a 'wellbeing walk' while also having a meeting, so... not exactly an opportunity to de-stress during the work day!
Honestly, I don't understand why these people don't pick up that they are becoming the architects of their own misery, constructing cages of their own making around themselves - and me! We don't have to play the game and turn everything into a positive. That isn't good for mental health OR morale overall either - it's just, ironically for the health background, putting a sticking plaster over a bigger wound. We need to grow up and actually address the issues we have as adults otherwise experienced and valuable staff are just going to end up burning out - which then increases the workload on everyone else and risks bringing the whole system back to square 1.

Help out a struggling intersex girl?
The NHS will prescribe utrogestan to perisex women for reasons caused by low progesterone such as fatique, night sweats, suicidal ideation increase, and more. Yet, when this comes to intersex women, they refuse to offer the same prescription on the NHS forcing the intersex woman to go private, even when it is medically necessary for the intersex woman. - it's a discriminatory practise.
So... help an intersex girl out so she CAN get necessary medication privately?

Here are some top tips for PIP assessments from someone awarded enhanced daily living and enhanced mobility.
- Talk about it like its your worst day and dont let them down play anything. For example
Me: I really struggle to walk a lot of the time.
The assessor: but you can sometimes.
Me: yes but most of the time i cant and when i can its very painful
-Have the meeting recorded. They are less likely to try and twist your words if its being recorded. It is also helpful for if you want to apply for mandatory reconsideration you have a record of everything that was said
-If you can, have someone with you. I personally had my partner with me and they answered a lot of the questions for me as i was getting overwhelmed and needed support. Having someone there to support you and advocate for you if needed can be a big help.
-If possible have it done over the phone rather than in person. A lot of people say they were judged for what they wore how much eye contact they made e.c.t. if its possible having it over the phone limits how much of a judgement they can make based on looks
-Evidence! Get as much evidence as possible even if you think its irrelevant i sent in 150 pages worth of medical records even if it wasnt all relevent it made a huge difference that there was a lot backing up what i said
-If youre struggling to write out the forms and its possible i highly suggest seeking support. I personally used my local autism hub for help but citizens advice are also able to help you through the process
- Be gentle with yourself. The people doing the assessment and the benefits system, in general can be so so mean. Remember you deserve help.
If anyone else has any other tips feel free to add them below. My dms are open if anyone has any questions or feel free to ask in a comment. Sorry this was long but i hope it helps.

Sudanese NHS doctor 'betrayed' after being refused entry onto evacuation flight to UK - BBC News
From the article:
'An NHS doctor trapped in Sudan after visiting family for Eid has urged the government to fly him back to the UK, saying he feels "betrayed" after being turned away from evacuation flights.
Sudanese-born Dr Abdulrahman Babiker is due back on shift as a registrar at the Manchester Royal Infirmary on Tuesday.
Despite having a UK work permit, he cannot board an evacuation flight as they only accept UK passport holders.
BBC Two's Newsnight has learned of at least 24 NHS doctors in this position.
The Foreign Office says it is prioritising British nationals, saying people in Dr Babikar's situation are allowed to enter the UK but must make their own way there.
Dr Babiker, who has worked at the Manchester hospital for more than four years, told Newsnight: "To be honest I feel totally betrayed… I worked throughout Covid and I'm so disappointed."'

So now the wait times for the NHS A&E (the ER if you use the American term) is at its worst since it was the NHS was first established.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(screenshots taken from the bbc news article)
The government NEEDS to stop acting in its own interest and fucking fund the NHS properly, people are DYING for fuck sake.
And since the NHS is struggling to just get ambulances to people fast and not being able to give beds to so many people, no wonder they cant afford to put money towards the mental health department, which inevitably causes MORE deaths as people with mental health problems wont be able to access help.
But of course the fucking tories dont care about any of that, they only care about themselves and making mony. Fuck them, fuck the 1%, and fuck anyone in this country that thinks the NHS should be abolished in favor of a private system like America has.

This is a fund supported by GenderGP, one of the leading private avenues for UK trans people seeking medical help, to give trans youths financial support so they can better afford private healthcare instead of having to endure the horrible waiting list.
for reference, as of May 2022, this is the state of the waiting times:

This fund could help so many people so please consider donating if you're able or reblogging to reach a wider audience, thank you <3

I've got a doctors appointment tomorrow and I'm terrified they're going to just shrug me off like they always do and invalidate me.
Just making the appointment got stressful and annoying...
I'm bringing my partner along because it goes much better if he's with me. Every time I go alone, I end up crying and calling him while he's at work for comfort.
A few of my experiences when I went alone:
The receptionist shrugging off me going "I feel like I'm going to have a seizure"
Nurses shrugging off my worries about my memory and brain.
The doctor telling me to go buy a self-help book when I went to them about an ED
The sad news is this is the best GP near me.
I made an appointment because I think I'm hypermobile, It could explain why I've had joint pain since I was 13 and other issues!
I've tried twice to get answers for my pain but I got sent to physio which didn't help and a blood test with 0 answers.
I hope I get answers this time.

This fully makes me want to scream. This is one of a number of cases in relatively recent NHS history that to me seem to all trace back to some combination of underfunding and bad management structure / workplace culture.
This is from the inquest into the death in 2020:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(not sure why but the document is very closely cropped when it opens for me - see alt text if you're having readability issues)
Now obviously we have some clear clinical mistakes to point to here but the actual neglect is being caused by the unit being understaffed - they were 6 midwives short at the time - and the fact that the management culture discouraged nurses from challenging doctors when they had concerns.
Tumblr media
It gets worse. We learn thanks to an anonymous whistleblower that this NHS Trust had most definitely known for almost a year that the nursing staff had massive, materially demonstrable concerns about their ability to provide adequate care under the conditions they were being asked to work with.
Tumblr media
This is from the Prevention of Future Death report produced by the coroner. This is so damning. This is what happens when you have a management culture that does not respect workers! We see this time and time again in every sector; if you don't listen to what workers are telling you then you are making that workplace unsafe, whether for the workers or for the people using that service or product. Specifically in the medical sector, I would refer anyone interested to Jane McAlevey's writing on her time organising healthcare unions in the US, which references better sources than I can find off the cuff for unionised hospitals providing better patient outcomes.
And what is our institutional response to this incident? Well this is why I want to scream. An £800,000 fine that the presiding judge specifically notes will have to come out of money that would otherwise be spent on patient care. Because apparently we can't get our heads out of the capitalist mindset that caused this tragedy in the first place. What are the problems? Bad management culture and understaffing. How will we punish this to create change? Take money away!
How is this supposed to make things better? How are patients going to have improved care? How are nurses going to have the time to give proper attention to their patients when one midwife in this case specifically stated that she had concerns but had not been able to find the time to fill out the relevant form to report those concerns?
I want to SCREAM.

and so it goes on - transphobes in the higher echelons of the NHS blocked the introduction of pregnancy advice for trans and/or nonbinary people for almost a year, and only unblocked it after someone blew the whistle on them

example #7375 of the tories wrecking the nhs
so. i have covid; ive had two positive tests and the covid monitoring centre is sending me a pulsometer so i can send daily results. theyve called me every day since i reported it.
i also have my first physiotherapy appointment with rheumatology in three days... that i cant really afford to miss.
because if i ask for a rearrangement, its registered on the system as me "refusing to attend the appointment" making it much harder for me to actually get appointments. and having various chronic illnesses (including one that can be fatal if unmonitored and untreated), i very much need regular appointments.
its taken me like four years to get this appointment and the closest rearrangement is six months away.
plus, ive already had to rearrange one this year because i was bedridden with covid last week. and even though the condition the appointment for should be monitored every three months at least to avoid blindness or death, and that one is now two months away.
which means i already have one mark against me, claiming me to be non-compliant. i cant exactly afford another rearrangement since it comes with another negative mark in the system.
so my best option, personally, is to attend the appointment even though i have covid and it is registered on the system that i have covid and covid is an infectious disease.
youd think that factor might make it so that i cannot attend automatically. that would make sense, right?
yeah no. when we called up, the nurse said "as long as you feel up to attending, youll be fine."
its insane, just fucking ludicrous.
the system under tories has literally put me into a fucking trolley problem where my options are:
attend the appointment but risk infecting who knows how many people
OR
miss the appointment and subsequently be marked as a patient who doesnt bother attending appointments and hence, be offered less appointments if any, hence risking blindness or death if im unable to get regular appointments for my neurological disorder that needs regular monitoring to avoid blindness or death
the tories' version of the nhs is literally punishing me for getting ill.
its unacceptable to miss an appointment for any reason, and uh, you know whos more likely to miss an appointment? the disabled and the poor.
the system is blatantly designed to trip up those the tories find undesirable and burdensome; they dont even bother hiding it because a lot of people either agree with them and their bigotry, or they just cant be bothered to care for the disabled and/or the poor.
im sure i could come to some coherent conclusion here, but im honestly just too fucking tired to do that.
fuck tories.

Yesterday I posted in a Facebook thread about “your opinion is less valuable if you’re not an expert” essentially with “yes, but with the caveat that this is much more complex with direct personal experience - notably there is a big issue with doctors, especially GPs, treating women and women-read people as unreliable witnesses to their own symptoms throughout the history of medicine which still continues today” and noted that my GP had initially told me repeatedly that my fucking sublaxions were somatic depression”.
I got a three-reply screed from someone claiming to be a nurse who said a) it’s my fault for going to a GP, not a specialist b) why am I complaining on the internet instead of “taking responsibility for my own health”? c) she disregards patients who talk about their health on the internet d) it’s the fault of people like me if the entire medical system collapses e) “your GP will still do better diagnosing other things than you do”.
And obviously I replied pointing out the truly massive unfounded assumptions she made about me, her clear lack of understanding of the U.K. medical system, and her huge logical fallacies, but honestly the gut punch yet again at yet *another* confirmation of the systemic disdain and defensiveness disabled and chronically ill people are dealing with from healthcare workers has left me feeling absolutely floored.
This was a level and detached a remark about “historically there has been a serious issue with how systemically marginalised people are treated where personal experiences are concerned, particularly in healthcare, and this still persists to this day - a notable intersection is the ongoing higher mortality rate of black women in childbirth” and the result was this vicious personal attack full of incredibly baseless assumptions.
I am genuinely sorry to load any decent healthcare workers reading this with anything else given the level of bullshit you have to deal with from our political class, but yet again I need to ask you to challenge this behaviour in your colleagues wherever you see it. Including in private spaces which patients will never see.
Because this online attack mirrors so many of my personal experiences in trying to get really quite basic healthcare. Worse yet, I *know* those experiences were serious factors in killing disabled friends and acquaintances, and I know other people who are going to suffer life-altering ongoing health effects due to them.

Just got asked to produce a GP letter to prove I have dyslexia/dyscalculia. I’ve never talked about either with a GP in my life and I’ve spent 40 years working three times as hard as my peers to make up for it in all areas of my life. I’m good at masking so most people aren’t even aware I have these problems.
My issue with being asked to produce this letter is this; I can’t get a GP to take me seriously about my very visible physical disabilities, how the hell am I meant to get them to take me seriously about this? Let alone enough to put it in writing?
