I realized how insane Malleus’s hearing range is in Spectral Soiree. He was able to hear the guests and Vil, who were at the front gate, all the way from Ramshackle.
I knew fae had good hearing since like Lilia could hear people across the lunch room, but this is faaar farther than that, and it’s probably not even his maximum hearing range
Since twst english decided to re-release this event early, I thought I might just post these sketches now! Ngl, the Halloween outfits are some of my favorite event outfits!
Summary: Silver discovers just how intriguing a pumpkin can be.
Notes: This is the second day's prompt ("Pumpkin Craving") for the 2023 TWST Rarepair Halloween event. It's short, but a peek into how I may imagine Silver's mind to be.

I didn't expect to like a pumpkin so much.
But the way it makes you so confident is incredible. I've seen your excitement and fire a few times, but you usually keep it shrouded beneath a different demeanour.
It's interesting; tonight, it seems that pumpkin is both your helmet and your shield. It's giving you the confidence to be out, talking with people. I found you here as I was looking for Malleus, with you excitedly speaking with him and Rook, and standing as strong as a true knight... And I would know what that looks like.
But... I wonder what you'd look like standing beside me. Especially when you're like this: confident. Tall. Full of fire. Not flustered, like you always are when you're around me.
Maybe your costume is giving you some sort of special powers tonight. Or maybe it's just allowing you to show your true self, the one underneath that nervousness you hide behind.
Even if you’re not a vignette-reading kind of player, the Spectral Soiree vignettes are highly recommended!
Starting with Riddle, there’s a flashback from his first year in school right after he became housewarden. We learn about how housewardens can customize their uniforms, why he has chosen to wear heels and see an early interaction between Riddle and Vil.
In Ace’s vignette he vents at Malleus and Lilia for how it seems they do not realize how powerful they are, and for kidnapping the entire student body for fun.
We also get a quick flashback of Ace spending time with Deuce, Grim and the player character, with Lilia teasing him about having been lonely without them.
In Floyd’s we get a story from a Coral Sea halloween when he was kidnapped by ghost pirates as a child and had to fight his way free, and in Trey’s we get Trey without his glasses!
And Silver's involves a lot of what may or may not be foreshadowing, as well as some insight into his upbringing and relationships with Lilia, Malleus and Sebek.
Bonus: canonical dance partners from the 11 vignettes
Jamil + Epel
Floyd + Jade
Deuce + Cater
Deuce + Grim + Ace + Player (in the scene they are asking Ace to dance, not the player)
Cater + Silver
Riddle + Ghost
Riddle + Vil
Riddle + Kalim
Malleus + Lilia + Silver
(there are no major changes between the JP-server and NA-server versions of the vignettes except for the removal of the word "middle school", which is a consistent change in the NA edit)
Tbh as a Malleus fan and defender it is completely understandable for people to be annoyed at Malleus and Lilia the ending of Spectral Soiree😭(and just the ending if the event in general) Not because "ooo why didn't they do the right thing" but because this fakeout was genuinely dumb😭😭😭
And the way they make it just like "Umm you shouldn't have attacked the ghosts first if you didn't want any of this to happen🤨" 95% OF THEIR SCHOOL'S POPULATION WAS KIDNAPPED IN THE DEAD OF NIGHT INTO THE GHOST WORLD WHAT DID YOU WANT THEM TO DO😭😭😭 LIKE of course they'd suspect the ghosts and not try to talk to them😭
Like fae differences or nah the way they kind of just downplayed it like that is super lame and annoying😭 Like Malleus and Lilia don't even need to be punished that bad or the party gets cancelled just don't be like "Actually the Hallowenders were in the wrong for jumping to conclusions" when it was the most logical and realistic thing to do in their situation😭😭😭
Like legit Malleus and Lilia had no reason to not consider all the dangerous miscommunication issues kidnapping 600 teenage boys and having their possessed bodies greet the remaining 11 would cause😭 Like idk maybe its in character for Malleus to not have considered it but I find it so strange that Lilia did not given his age and experience and him established to be a figure that advises Malleus and calms him down from doing impulsive bs like this😭
tbh I think it's just bad writing on the team's part cause they had no idea how to get Malleus and Lilia out of the situation when they're inevitably found out😭
So yeah rant over I have a love-hate relationship with the ending of this event its pissed me off since JP last year😭 Like genuinely no matter how you try to spin it Malleus and especially Lilia not considering the implications from the start is dumb and how they had the characters just accept the blame for it so that they could have everyone go on their dumbass dance party in the end is stupid no excuses sorry😭 One time I cannot defend Malleus
Wow, this Endless Halloween Night event is really showing us the... less savory sides of Lilia’s parenting. And while I do enjoy the insight into his character, showing that he’s not the perfect, omniscient father that a lot of the fandom portrays him as—myself included ^^;—it’s still somewhat unsettling to see.
Are we finally going to get a more serious glimpse into how his distance and lesser capacity to empathize (cough Silver’s first birthday SSR cough) have affected his son in Book Seven? I really hope so... It would be very interesting to explore what morals, emotions, and relationships on the whole, particularly familial ones, mean to the fae. Do they place the same importance on blood ties that humans do? (Judging from Sebek’s eagerness to denounce his mortal side, this might not be the case...) What even is the meaning of such fleeting matters in the face of eternity?
Or perhaps his willingness to leave Silver alone is something that stems more from circumstance; after spending so long trapped in a never-ending cycle of war and death, leaving a child to navigate the world on their lonesome may simply feel like the norm. After all, when was the last time they got to experience the warm comfort of a parent’s coddling embrace?
But, whatever the case, let’s take this seriously, twst...! We don’t need any more “jokes” about something that can be genuinely concerning and hurtful—not that I’m referencing any situations in particular, of course—when we can have some scrumptious angst for Silver instead.
Besides, how else are we going to get a final, parting line from Lilia, whispering, “I’m sorry, Silver. I never meant to fail you this way... my dear son...” as he looks upon his beautiful child one last time? :’)
