Danyal Al Ghul's missed potential - this kid is not gonna behave like his canon self if he's with the league of assassins until his late formative years, and my reasoning why

(feel free to take this all with a grain of salt this is just my thoughts on it, this is all mostly amusing to me and isn't trying to be negative towards anyone else)

similar to how i was talking about how danny growing up in crime alley would affect him, demon twin aus with danyal al ghul make me laugh a lot (affectionate) because... whose teaching danny to unlearn all the ecofascism he picked up from the league of assassins? whose teaching him to be kind? to be gentle? Not the LoA thats for certain.

(you could plausibly say Jazz but she's only 2 years older than Danny and do you really expect a fellow child to properly explain why X is wrong to another child and have it be 100% effective? i don't doubt it'd help to an extent, but not in the same way an adult explaining it would)

plus a ton of other things, like whose teaching him to value human life? not the LoA. Whose teaching him how to adjust to living with American society after he ends up with the Fentons when he's 8-9-10? Who teaches him that killing is wrong, whose enforcing that?

(not the Fentons if you're going the neglectful parent route, and Jazz can try but i really don't think Danny is going to listen to her, a stranger who isn't even part of his grandfather's league)

How do you teach a child to value human life when the greatest development window for that opportunity has closed and he's already formed his own opinions?

You're not gonna get a Danny whose exactly like his canon attitude if he's staying with the league during his formative years (0-8 years old). you're not. You could get someone LIKE it, potentially, or someone who has traces of it or is similar -- like danny's wit and jokes and sarcasm, and on some level his kindness. but you're not gonna have a carbon copy. Development doesn't work that way. "nature" can only do so much in the face of nurture.

If anything, it doesn't even have to be a major change -- in the league he cans till be kind, but it's probably going to manifest in a different way than what is considered normal. Tough love, for one. But there's gonna be something that affects him negatively. Why make him 'always good/kind' when you can make him a brat who develops into a kinder (if spikier than in canon) person?

TLDR: Danyal Al Ghul would not be like how he is in canon if he's with the league until his late formative years -- not without any lasting pr permanent impacts from the league at least. Missed potential to make him an absolute nightmare like damian was -- especially in his early years when he first arrived to the Fenton house.

(this doesn't apply to danyal al ghul aus where he's either given to the fentons as a baby/is reincarnated/etc. this is mostly aimed for danyal al ghul aus where he fakes his death at like, 7-10 and somehow ends up, personality-wise like his completely canon self by 14 without any differences.)

(and even then if he's five or four, or even three, he would still be traumatized and influenced by the league. he'll just have more time to adjust. the sooner he leaves the league the more likely he is to be like his canon self, but not like an exact copy)

Anyways what I'm saying is that there is prime missed Danyal al Ghul potential to make him an absolute NIGHTMARE to the Fentons however way he ends up with them, just like Damian was with the Waynes! Cuz why does Damian get all the fun? Danny got the same training and endoctrine as him! He is also an ex-assassin! Why is Danny the only one who is 'well adjusted and non-violent' hm? Hmm?

Why can't he also be mean, and stabby, and a total stuck-up in some way or another? Have fun with his characterization, its prime opportunity to play play-doh and clay with him! If he starts out as X how does he get the personality traits of Y, and thus become XY?

Like take this with a grain of salt if you will, but make him arrogant. Make him an asshole! Make him a bad person at first! Because he will be! He's the blood son of the batman and you mean to tell me that damian is the only one arrogant about it at first? Make him stabby and mean even at 14 when he's begun to chill out! Have fun with it! If he's with the Fentons at any point past the age of four or five then he's gonna be a nightmare to handle because he still remembers the league and his time there.

(and while it gives him more time to chill the hell out, his time at the league is still gonna leave an impact on him.)

also what im saying as well is have him and sam potentially get along like a house on FIRE. Again, Danny grew up under the views of an ecofascist cult and nobody to challenge those views to him until he got to amity park at whatever age in late formative years he was at. He could be about as intense or even MORE intense about environmental awareness/rights than Sam is!

(also him being supremely unimpressed with Sam's wealth. he gave up a palace in the mountains for this town. because that's funny to me - like let his past have more influence on him! it'll be fun!)

you could have a danny who doesn't kill but doesn't fully understand the value of human life because jazz is like two years older than him and isn't that good at explaining why people's lives are important. he won't kill but he's not morally opposed to it. there's very little chance he actually gets bullied at school because he nearly killed Dash the first time he tried anything.

Danny could have scars, physical ones, because its implied in multiple canon that training starts at toddling (my best bet is 3 at minimum and ~maybe~ 2 but only on the later side of 2. Good fucking luck getting any infant under 2 to do anything you ask, ESPECIALLY assassin training. They're gonna stick the weapon in their mouth sooner than they're gonna do katas. This is coming from a daycare teacher.)

there's more examples of how danny being at the league during his formative years would affect him, but those are just some of them. he could have a sword! An appreciation for weaponry and nature. Maybe he still speaks all shakespearan and formal, does he still make bodily threats to people? If Damian is still threatening people at 14 why can't danny?

@sparkvampweek Day 6: (I didn't follow the prompt, sry)

Apologies -- Drabble under the cut (~500 words)

Vampire paced around the upstairs bedroom for what felt like hours. His head was swimming with a frustrated mixture of feelings and what he speculated to be a light hangover. He'd barely seen Sparkling since the incident last night-- He couldn't even really remember what he'd said to make him upset.

Oh. Right. That. Vampire had stopped his pacing and was now pressing both of his hands against his temples before sliding his fingers through his hair. A short jolt of the panic he felt last night flashed through his body, running his jam cold. I really fucked up this time, didn't I? He had to say something. He couldn't bear this silent treatment. He went back and forth, back and forth once more before going to head downstairs.

The old steps of the house groaned quietly as Vampire made his way down slowly, timid to make any sudden sounds. He saw the light golden swath of his lover's hair peaking out from the back of his arm chair, already neatly combed. He snuck up behind him, taking a peak at what he was doing. It was a crossword, already mostly done.

Vampire took a deep breath.

"Hey, uh. About last night--"

"Don't worry about it." The sudden response took Vampire aback. "I made a big deal out of nothing."

"But you were right, I need to shut my big mouth." Vampire made his way to the arm of the chair and knelt down next to it so he could look at Sparkling. His face had the same calm expression he usually wore. "I upset you, that's a big deal to me--"

"Vampire, it's fine." He nearly spoke in a whisper. "I overreacted. You didn't deserve to get locked out, even if it was just for a moment." His voice shook slightly. He set the puzzle book down on his lap and sat forward so their eyes met. "I know how that sort of thing makes you feel, I shouldn't have done it. I'm sorry."

There was a short silence.

"I'm sorry, too." Vampire laid his chin on the arm rest. "And I mean it this time." He closed his eyes, and just barely audibly under his breath he whispered again, "I'm sorry."

Sparkling let out the breathe he felt he'd been holding since last night and smiled gently. "Let's just forget it even happened, okay?"

Vampire nodded. "Okay." He propped himself back up and made himself comfortable on the arm of the chair. He leaned in close, resting his head on Sparkling's. "Can I help you with your puzzle?"

Sparkling let out a short chuckle. "Sure. How about a five letter word for a colorful species of bird--"

"Parrot!"

"That's six letters."

"Oh."

"Try again."

i will never get over how nice people are about my work, reading people's comments after i post is so gratifying godddd you guys rock <3

This past year has been unbelievably wild, it's hard for me to express it in words tbh. I'm so thankful for you guys and for everyone supporting and encouraging me as I've been diving head first into art stuff, ngl it's the compliments and interactions I have with others that have been helping me get through an otherwise unbelievably busy and stressful year (even if it's good stress). Looking forward to summer break in a few weeks when I can get my life a bit more balanced and rest up a bit :)

“Thanks,” and, though visibly displeased with the situation, Kolisnyk eventually accepts the wordless offer, body unfurling from his admittedly entertaining slump and reaching out with his unwounded hand to grasp onto Calleum’s own. With little regards to either proper wound care or medical hygiene, Kolisnyk uses the bent and twisted fingers of his injured hand to drive into the soft earth, regaining purchase with the claw-like movement, before pressing the laceration in his palm down into the blackened topsoil. It’s with an irritable hiss that he then pushes down, using the combined momentum of his motions and Calleum’s swift tug to haul himself upwards. A momentary stagger overcomes him as he rediscovers the world on both feet, and Calleum’s hands hasten to balance him by his lower back and bicep, while Kolisnyk tilts and throws the other hand back out for some semblance of balance. He looks rather wretched, Calleum notes, while Kolisnyk continues to be quick as ever, readjusting and canting to the side, stabilizing as he shifts his weight onto the notably less muddied part of his body and the leg that doesn’t look half-beaten in its war against nature, and Calleum soon finds that he isn’t quite mature enough to reign in the soft breath of laughter that wells in his chest and releases with his observations.

From Pulse. This puppy took a little bit, with the brain constantly shifting words around and leaving me very, very confused every time I read it over. Hoping it ended up coherent. Kolisnyk is Riley, and this is the aftermath of what happens when he isn’t paying much attention, falling down an embankment, and he just so happens to do so while Calleum is absently wandering about the forest that surrounds their school somewhere during the low light of dusk, too. Riley then reveals himself to be much like any doctor, with an apprenticeship steadily underway in healing, but still making the rather poor choice of disregarding his own basic health - like slapping down a newly attained laceration in his hand into dirt.

Anyway... how are we liking the new tense? It gives me Hell~ But it’s functioning far better in terms of comprehension for me than past tense used to, and it’s all starting to flow quite nicely during the writing process, too.

There’s a GP in NZ who does these amazing embroideries representing medical conditions (also lots of uterus-related embroideries which are amazing) and please look at my favourites!

(images: the first image is an embroidery of a hand skeleton with thistles growing out of it. The second image is also embroidered showing part of a pelvis and upper femur with the interior of the femur replaced by honeycomb.)

These are rheumatoid arthritis and osteoporosis - rheumatoid arthritis is a very painful autoimmune arthritis which usually affects hand joints (as well as other joints in some people); osteoporosis is bone thinning/weakening.

I bought two of her uterus prints (menorrhagia/shark week and menstruation) for my clinic room and please check them out here!

One of the things I really like about Terry Pratchett is the way he talks about death? Like when I was a kid it was just a joke how Death is in every book (or close to? I’m not sure) but then I became a doctor in my mid-twenties, and was utterly caught by how close to death I walked in my day to day, and how much it was not something I could share with anyone I knew (underneath about age 70). But Terry got it. And that was when I found I pulled out the witches books - and especially Tiffany Aching, and A Hat Full of Sky - and read and reread those passages because somehow he understood what it was like to be the person standing next to the door and holding it open for someone else to pass through

Today we get a brand new public holiday in NZ which is firstly fun because mostly all our holidays are in summer, but also because it's the first holiday that celebrates specifically Māori knowledge - different regions have different stories but in many regions this is the start of the new year

This is a fantastic article about matauranga Māori/indigenous knowledge from the astronomer who has done the most for bringing it back

My obsession with Yennefer (long post!)

Yennefer was ALWAYS my favourite character from an entire Witcher franchise and easily my favourite character from any fictional story. I drew her, sketched her, wrote about her obsessively since I first read the Witcher in 2013.

Let's give it a try and gather all of the Yennefer pieces and sketches I ever did, because I had a Witcher brainrot for many, many years. Spoler alert: all of my Yens are totally different!

This one from 2014 was probably inspired by the The Bounds of Reason.

The one that was inspired by the very first Yennefer render from CDProjektRed.

THE FAVOURITE ONE. I haven't watched Farscape until 2018 and when I first saw Claudia Black I GASPED, because to me she looked exactly like this Yen version I drew back in 2016 and still is madly in love with.

Apparently there was an infinished second piece of this exact Yen design but I never posted the high resolution of it which is kinda sad.

2017! I saw early game!Yen designs and did a sketchy portrait of her. And then I decided to make the second version with the book!Yen:

Finally, Yennefer from 2022 (original sketch and the colored sketch). This design seems the most book accurate to me, but I still love all the previous ones I did (except the weird one, she is creepy).

He flushes as he finds that his initial reaction may have been a bit childish. "My rose, I want us to be able to enjoy each other's company without any distractions," he says, feeling a bit vulnerable in admitting how clingy he is.

He nods, grateful for your understanding. "Thank you, love. I appreciate it. Let's put our phones away and get to studying, okay?" he says softly as he offers you a small smile, feeling happy to have your attention once again.

he’s content like this for a while, but eventually he wants to be the center of your attention

"Darling, you've been spending a lot of time on your phone lately," he says, his voice softening. "I'm just worried about your eyesight, and the strain that it might be putting on your eyes. Make sure to take breaks and be mindful of your screen time, okay?"

He smiles triumphantly, feeling a sense of satisfaction at your attention. "Now," he said, taking your hands into his, "how about we spend some quality time together, without any distractions?"

Idia comes to visit you (the shock, the horror, the otaku has left his room!!!) to spend more time with you, but when he arrives, you’re completely absorbed in your phone, barely acknowledging his presence because of some trend on Magicam

honestly he probably only stops when you kick him a bit too hard when you try to push him away

okay maybe he deserved that for not stopping, but ouch

still, satisfied with his revenge, he stops tickling you and smirks at you catching your breath

he invites you to play a chill co-op game once you’ve regained your composure

okay mayybe he had overreacted earlier, but hey! he put in the effort to get out of his room to hang out with you in ramshackle!

he deserves some attention from you for his bravery

Idia chuckles, feeling victorious. " That's right, you better pay attention to me. I'm the boss monster you can't ignore! Meh heh heh..."

"Hrk! What the heck? You're like Chun-Li with that kick!" he complains, rubbing his sore leg.

Idia finally relents, feeling a sense of satisfaction from the tickle battle. "Okay, I'll give you a break for now. But next time, I'll be ready with my secret tickling combo moves! Now, let’s conquer this game together and unlock all the achievements!"

but now beware, he’s learned how to tickle you, and he can easily get your attention anytime he wants it now

oh well, too late for regrets now, he’s buzzing with excitement for your walk

Malleus chuckles softly and finally relents, pulling back and offering his hand to help his lover up. "Heh, I just wanted your attention," he says, his eyes twinkling with amusement.

He smiles, pleased that he had managed to lighten the mood. "Now, shall we go for a walk outside in the gardens? It's a beautiful day. I heard there are some rare constellations in sight right now."

He beams when you put your hand in his. "My dear Child of Man, I wish your attention was on me more often… I find it unbearable when you ignore me." He says, deep in contemplation.
