New scenes in the Berserk: Memorial Edition Golden Age Trilogy. Looks like they've added the Bonfire of Dreams scene that was missing from the movies.

A Summary: The Spirealm | 致命游戏 (Kaleidoscope of Death 死亡万花筒 Live Action) & Why You Should (Eventually) Watch It
Tumblr media
Talk about the most short-lived drama release ever, not even totalling two hours if I recall. Creating this summary as I've seen a handful of confused friends, so here it goes!
It's going to be a long review because I sped through all 78 episodes and only properly watched the first two doors, but I got you. You'll get both the brief book rundown and the drama parts!
If you just wanna see the bromance (LOVE) parts please skip to section 4!!!!
1. Overview
Title: The Spirealm (kinda awful I'm sorry it's a mouthful) or 致命游戏 which means fatal game
Adapted From: Danmei (BL) Kaleidoscope of Death by Xi Zixu
Novel Prints: There are GORGEOUS Thai, Vietnamese, Simplified and Traditional Chinese versions printed, AND Singapore publisher Rosmei has signed the license for the ENGLISH version, probably going on sale this year (preview is here). You can still access fan translations by Taida on I think wordpress and someone else on Tumblr sorry bad memory (they did half and half each) if you'd like to read it for context. It is one of my FAVE danmeis EVER and I am a die-hard OG book fan, check out my full danmei review here.
Total Episodes: 78 (20 minutes each with the exception of last episode which 10 minutes, with several BTS not that I think we will get to see all of them yet)
Where to Watch (LOL): Erm considering that iQIYI China AND International took the episodes down, there is no legal way to watch this, BUT thanks to some cnetz with super fast and great wifi, we managed to get ripped HD versions without subs. iQIYI is very hard on copyright though, they've taken down several subbed and unsubbed versions already on YouTube, but you should type the titles of show into Twitter and the top tags will tell you where to access the raws and very little subbed episodes, that may also be taken down at any point. I have the Chinese raws but as it's hosted on a cloud, I had to pay to access it.
Main Characters: Lin Qiushi & Ruan Nanzhu/Ruan Baijie (in the novel) and Ling Jiushi & Ruan Nanzhu/Ruan Baijie (in the drama)
Produced By: iQIYI so for SURE they won't film it fully BL even if the original is, but I've seen enough bromance cuts
Main Actors: Xia Zhiguang (Ruan Nanzhu/Ruan Baijie) + Huang Junjie (Ling Jiushi)
2. Summary
Book (drama follows closely if not removing the supernatural premises): Lin Qiushi, a designer, opens the door to his home one day from inside and sees 12 iron doors outside. Confused, he opens one of them and arrives at a snow covered village in the mid of winter, and meets Ruan Baijie, who's a pretty, unusually tall and whiny/timid woman. They realise that they're in a horrifying door game, and they'll have to find a door and a key to get out, while battling a long-haired, human-eating deity. They, along with a few others, have to survive day after day until they get out, and on the first night, two people have died in gory ways. Ruan Baijie and Lin Qiushi partner each other, and despite seemingly timid and crying all the time, she saves Lin Qiushi a few times mysteriously, and Lin Qiushi finds himself trusting in Ruan Baijie.
They get through the door together and when they leave successfully, Lin Qiushi realizes that the people who died in the door will die in real life by some freak accident too - car accidents, forced suicides, a robbery gone wrong, a lift trapped in the air and going ablaze, and more. That night, Lin Qiushi wakes up to see a super handsome and tall Ruan Nanzhu at his bedside and this man feels familiar to him, but he can't put a finger on it. All he can think of when Ruan Nanzhu says his name is Ruan Baijie (ahem he would later find out who it is of course). Ruan Nanzhu takes him to his mansion in the suburbs where he meets a group of other people just like them, who're forced to go through the doors for survival. Ruan Nanzhu then invites him to join Obsidian, his organization.
Through various doors, Lin Qiushi grows and supports a super intelligent and powerful Ruan Nanzhu, falls in love with him, gets through many many scary doors with him and some of their other team members, makes friends, loses them to the cruelty of the doors as they ponder over what the door means, and what being alive/dying means.
And at the end of it, at the end of of it all, when they're all good and living their life, Lin Qiushi also finds out what Ruan Nanzhu's secret is, and the lengths to which Ruan Nanzhu went to, just to be with him.
Drama: Ling Jiushi is a VR game designer who gets pulled into a game, and he meets Ruan Baijie (in his male form) right off the bat (SO NOT CROSSDRESSING I AM SAD). All the parts are actually the same as the novel, albeit with the game setting and Ling Jiushi and Ruan Nanzhu's identity adjustments to suit the game premise. Most of the other doors and their lines are the same, just that the ending is a bit more confusing than it could be. There's a big bad as well and they actually show the opposing organizations when in the novel, these other organizations aside from Obsidian didn't even actually have a face or goal to them.
3. Characters
Tumblr media
^ Them in the book (based on manhua that never got to go live LOL) (RNZ/RBJ left, LQS right)
Tumblr media
^ Them in the show (LJS left, RNZ right)
Ruan Nanzhu/Ruan Baijie: MY HANDSOME CROSSDRESSING INTELLIGENT ALOOF BUT WHINY (WHEN IT COMES TO LIN QIUSHI) SASSY BOSS!!!! He's super mysterious and super thick-skinned too, and all he wants is Lin Qiushi's attention the moment he meets him. He's intrigued by Lin Qiushi's calm and his brains and the way he handles things, and has a lot of trust for him right from the get-go. This is also shown in the drama itself. As the leader of Obsidian, he cares a lot for his team members and his friends even if he doesn't show it most of the time, and the last thing he wants to do is lose Lin Qiushi, and he would do ANYTHING for Lin Qiushi, ANYTHING!!! Just look at him whining:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ling Jiushi (Lin Qiushi): In the novel he's super calm, has quite a lot of brains, a little bit of a blur in the beginning but he's super smart as well. Worries a lot for Ruan Nanzhu and is also a loyal friend to some of his only friends, and feels a lot when he loses them. Falls gradually in love with Ruan Nanzhu in the novel, like they just belong together. In this drama, Ling Jiushi holds that same trust for Ruan Nanzhu, but in demeanour he seems a bit more like a klutz and and not as cool as he was in the novel, but I guess it's acceptable. Literally like the only thing he loves more than RNZ (maybe) is his cat Chestnut LOL and RNZ is NOT really happy about that but Chestnut LOVES RNZ
Tumblr media
Yixie and Qianli: CUTEST TWINS ;-; WHO TREAT RNZ and LQS as their big brothers LOOK AT THEM BOWING AND RNZ/LJS like parents LMAO
Tumblr media
A handful of other characters who will keep turning up and get your hearts ;-;
4. ALL FAVE BROMANCE MOMENTS + TROPES
THEY TOUCH EACH OTHER A LOT LIKE HOLDING HANDS AND TOUCHING FACES, PIGGY BACKING?!?! DID I MENTION FACE TOUCHING
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
WHUMP WHUMP WHUMP WHUMP THEY HELP EACH OTHER WHEN HURT OR GET HURT FOR EACH OTHER
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
AND WHEN THEY WAKE UP IN BED THE OTHER IS AT THEIR BEDSIDE
Tumblr media Tumblr media
AND DID I MENTION HE FEEDS HIM IN MORE WAYS THAN ONE
Tumblr media
AND THAT THEY DATED UNDER THE FIREWORKS LIKE THE NOVEL DOES NOT EVEN HAVE THIS SHIT
Tumblr media Tumblr media
AND THE KABEDONS
Tumblr media Tumblr media
AND FINALLY RUAN NANZHU RIZZ OMG
Tumblr media Tumblr media
5. Settings
They REALLY OUTDID THEMSELVES. THIS JUST FROM DOORS 1-6:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
THEY LOOK EXACTLY LIKE THE NOVEL DESCRIBED!!!!
Tumblr media
6. Overall Thoughts
PROS: This was NOT a cheap production, I'm telling you, they followed the cases very well and there're a lot of super recognisable lines, if not ALL of them, even if they changed the cases a little. I think they did it because in the novel originally, the author DOES leave a lot of details hanging like someone dies and you know he had a background and there are some shady things happening but the author NEVER actually goes into detail. So the drama did their best to cover these loopholes, even if it felt a little awkward at times. Money went into settings and attires and every damn thing, this looks EXPENSIVE. And if you've ever imagined each door and the bosses inside in your head, you might have felt chills go down your spine because damn did they really colour the book's settings for me (despite its differences). DID I MENTION that Xia Zhiguang really got the damn memo and he was a passable Ruan Nanzhu/Ruan Baijie who knew how to turn on his BL eyes. PLUS they really did some of the character deaths really well - they're technically some of the biggest parts of this story so ;-; (not two main of course)
CONS (maybe): They did away with the supernatural/horror premise and replaced it with a GAME premise, which means that there's a scientific element to it and the try to explain away stuff with the game, including the ending. I don't 100% get the ending, but the feel/vibe is about the same. Might not be for hardcore reader fans tho! They skipped out on a couple of doors, some of which were my faves, but it's fine, it's long enough LOL. They give away/explain some of the clues and surprises super early which means you don't get that added boom at the back as well. Despite that, I have to say they tried to round up the loopholes from the book as much as they could and give it an explanation while tying elements/conspiracies across doors (probably also to save cast fees LOL). And as always it's not a solid ending, it's an open confusing one, and even more confusing than the book itself because THERE IS NO CERTAIN HAPPILY EVER AFTER WITH HUBBY for it (there is in the book tho, they live together happily every after). Secondl,y, I'd say HJJ's acting is a bit stiff and OOC compared to the novel, but Xia Zhiguang really made up for it.
-------
HOPE THIS HELPS YOU GUYS!!! But I guess if you need subs it's going to be a long LONGGGG ride, considering that iQIYI doesn't seem to be going to be able to put it up anytime soon CRIES.

Shadow of a Doubt (Preview)
So how about that episode 2 huh?? 👀 when I saw Loki using his shadow magic for the first time in the trailer even before the episode released I knew I had to write a fic about it. So here 'tis!
Pairing: Loki x TVA Hunter Reader
Warnings: eventual smut, shadow magic, use of restraints, slight non-con, slight dark!Loki. **contains slight spoilers for Season 2.**
Rating: M
London, 1977
Night in the city never slept. It wasn't a stressful or rushed state of being awake, but it was rather just alive and existing. The distant sound of sirens from a fire truck nearby, some honking cars here and there, and the distant music and chatter of people on the phone or couples talking to each other walking past you. The ambiance and the world around you seemed distant and unimportant in comparison to your important mission--compromise Variant L1130-- also known as Loki Laufeyson.
You've seen him before, at the TVA and in files that you read. He thought he was the God of Mischief or something. At least thats what Mobius said. You didnt know what he saw in Loki. Mobius has always been interested in such strange things.
Of course, the Variant was mysterious--and not to mention, quite handsome. The mugshot on his file depicted a good-looking man with chiseled cheekbones and raven black hair. Sure, you thought he was good looking, and you wouldnt kick him out of bed if you found him there, but of course you wouldnt go out actively wanting to sleep with a rouge Variant--no matter how hot they were.
You had your assignment. And you had your warnings. Loki's file had mentioned his use of magic and illusions and the image of big, impact text on the file flashed through your head:
"IF CONFRONTED, PROCEED WITH CAUTION."
But you weren't worried. You were in disguise anyway. Your Tempad and pruning stick tucked away cleverly and your determination on display. You've dealt with hundreds of so-called perilous Variants before, how different could this one be?
You got to a shadowed intersection and you looked around. It seemed quieter here. Flickering streetlights lit the slick cobblestone streets as low footsteps and indistinct chatter could be heard. A few people could be seen walking here and there a distance away, but there wasn't much here. All of a sudden, you could have sworn you saw a person appear out pf nowhere out of the corner of your eye. You would have usually just shrugged off as your eyes playing tricks on you in the dimly lit street and kept walking, but something didnt feel right.
The air felt colder and it felt like the sounds of the world were even more further away now as a chill ran up your spine. You felt alone but at the same time, like you were being watched. You looked around frantically, not even knowing what you were looking for. Your hand went quickly to where you hid your pruning stuck, ready to fight or fly.
Suddenly a shadow caught the corner of your eye on the wall. You turned to face it, but it was gone.
What the hell?
Your breathing became faster and you leapt into action, running away. You barely made it a few feet until you felt your arm be tugged backwards, halting you. You shot your head back to see who was holding you back, fully ready to fight back--only to see in surprised confusion that there was no one holding your wrist. It was like a ghost was gripping your arm with invisible fingers but very real strength.
It took you longer than it should have to notice the towering shadow on the wall. It was definitely a human, a male probably, holding your arm. It was like the shadow, somehow, was restraining you.
"What the...." you whispered aloud.
You tried to wriggle free and managed to for a few seconds, until you felt another similar invisible hand grip your other wrist. The next thing you knew you were pinned with your back against the stone wall, looking out at the end of the alleyway where light poured in through a rectangular opening.
Heart thundering and mind racing, you extended your neck a bit in front of you and looked up at the wall you were held against. Two large shadows this time. They looked the same, each holding your arms out to the side like you were shackled to the hard stone wall.
Then, you saw it. First from one shadow, than the other-- a set of sharp, curving horns began to grow out of the black shadows' heads. You watched in surprise as the horns began to bloom and didnt even notice the man striding towards you, eyes glowing an otherworldly green.
"Well, well..." purred the voice, in a velvety English accent. "What have we here?"
Loki.
The infamous Variant stepped out the shadows in a very elegant suit with a white ruff in his chest and a neat bow tie. His hair was slicked black and his hands were clasped behind his back. He sauntered over to you, smirking. Looking like a spider who had just caught a decadent fly in its web.
He waved his hand again, and your clothes changed as your breath hitched. Your disguise melted away to reveal your black TVA hunter armor. You gritted your teeth. This was annoying, but this wouldnt stop you. So what he knew you were from the TVA. He would be incarcerated there soon enough.
You jerked and struggled against the shadow bonds as Loki chuckled.
"Don't bother, darling." He mused. "Shadow magic--quite useful, actually. Very hard to break out of it's grip."
"Loki Laufeyson--" You said, hoping your voice carried more confidence and certainty than you felt. "You are under arrest by the Time Variance Authority for crimes of sabotaging the Sacred Timeline."
He raised an eyebrow. "Am I?" He said in mock surprise. He looked around. "So I've been told before."
He stepped closer to you, his features sharp in the dim light. "Go on then hunter, arrest me." He put out his wrists in an exaggerated act of surrender. He paused a moment then looked back up at you. "Oh dear, but you can't though, can you? You seem to be a little...incapacitated, darling."
"Don't call me that." You spat, blood boiling. Maybe you wouldnt even take him back to the TVA--maybe you would just give yourself the satisfaction of pruning him right here and now.
He looked taken aback.
"Trust me Variant, when I'm free--"
"I'll be sorry?" Loki said, sounding bored. "Yes, yes. Heard it all before. You hunters are so cute when you try to threaten me."
He stepped closer yet again to your restrained body, closing the space between you. You could nearly feel his breath on your face now as he looked down at you with his piercing green gaze.
Your heart hammered in your throat, loud enough that you hoped he couldn't hear.
"Do you know who I am?" He asked, running a finger down your cheek, making you shudder.
Your face flushed, praying he couldnt see it in the darkness.
"Of course I do." You choked out. "You're a villain. A Variant. A threat to Time itself." You stabbed. Loki smirked.
"Am I?" He said, amused. "You seem to have such strong opinions about me. Did they warn you about me, Variant? About how dangerous and horrible I can be?"
"I'm not afraid of you." You said boldly. "I haven't even seen you do anything more than your silly shadow puppets and your outfit-changing trick."
"Oh." Loki growled. He came even closer to you and grabbed your chin, his chest pressing you against the hard brick wall behind you. Your wrists felt cold and ached from the restraining phantom hands.
"Well..." Loki said, lifting your head up forcefully. He lowered his voice to a growl, and locked his gaze with yours. "Perhaps I've just been waiting for a moment like this, so I can do terrible, awful things to you."

Atonement - PART 1
Tumblr media
PART 1 - PART 2
Tumblr media
Gator Tillman x fem!reader
Summary: Munch has taken Gator captive to let him atone for his sins, you try to convince him not to by any means necessary
CW/Disclaimer: Violence (maiming), contains 'spoilers'
Author's note: Spoilers ahead, in a way. It's based on early on previews we have had, as well as the latest preview for episode 9. I had a fix-it urge before the fix-it event has even occurred.
Words: 2016
Tumblr media
Screams echoed across the empty land, making you quicken your step. It didn’t surprise you that it had come this far, not in the slightest. You had told him to stay as far away from him as he could, but he decided to be cocky. Which… in some way, you understood. His thing with Munch was the only part of his life he currently felt in control of, or desperately wanted to be in control of. The man who was supposed to be dead by his gun had instead broken his arm, kicked him in the balls and left him hunched over like a loser vomiting in the grass for his dad to find. That wasn’t a pretty sight, for neither of them. Or you, for that matter.
Because despite the stupidly disgusting things that left his mouth on occasion, you cared for him. Why? Maybe because you knew where it came from. With a father like that, being fed his atrocious beliefs all his life and hardly being met with any opposition, it was probably harder to reflect on your own actions even if you should. Maybe because when you told him off he actually started to look remorseful. Maybe because, under all that douchebag behavior, you knew there was more to him. He had shown you on rare occasions when he let his guard down. Not on purpose, that’s for sure. But he had.
As for you, you knew Munch. Sort of. A long time ago, he had taken up one of the rooms above the bar. You had been scared of him, especially since he only showed up when he knew you were the only one behind the bar. The other patrons paid him no mind, but you did. How could you not? He only used the room to sleep. He’d come in late and be gone by the time you opened up the next day. You thought maybe he was homeless and you didn’t have the heart to tell your boss, the owner of the bar, that you had a freeloading guest. The rooms were barely used as it was, so you assumed it wouldn’t hurt. One night, a guest had been particularly difficult for you and at one point things had seemed to get out of hand and suddenly there had been Munch, snapping his neck like a twig and dragging him out of the bar without a word. That was the last time you’d seen him.
So when Gator mentioned his name, you had mixed feelings. You worried for Gator, knowing you wouldn’t want to be on Munch’s bad side. You were also, in some way, glad that Munch was okay. However after hearing that Munch broke Gator’s arm, you weren’t so sure if you should. Gator loved boasting about his achievements, was very quiet about his failures. He was all too giddy to tell you that he placed a tracker under Munch’s car and despite the many times you tried to talk him out of it, he had gone. He went, killed Munch and accidentally killed an old lady who decided to attack him with a bag of oranges for some reason.
Little did he know that the old lady and Munch had had a similar silent agreement as you had with Munch in the past. And little did he know that he’d simply shot through the head of a corpse that Munch had killed off earlier, rather than the man himself. Of course, it hadn’t been hard for him to figure out that Gator was behind it. Neither was it hard for him to decide he must be punished.
You had known something was up when Gator didn’t answer his cell. He never missed your calls, or he’d call back immediately. Something was up. When you finally found his car on the side of the road, the screams from afar gave you all you needed to find him. Munch hadn’t bothered to lock the shed, he even didn’t look up from Gator’s fear struck face when you stomped inside.
“Munch, let him go, please.”
Slowly, he turned his head to face you, but not before slicing a thick line through Gator’s cheek with the dull knife in his hand. He screamed.
“The boy has to pay for his sins,” Munch said, in that same, dull tone he always used. Smiled weakly as he turned back to face Gator, who tried to blink the blood away as it ran into his eye.
“It was an accident,” you tried, ignoring the fact that Gator had very much tried to kill the man. This was about the old lady after all.
“Foolish girl should not say foolish things.”
“Please, I can teach him to be better, he can learn—”
“A boy must learn to listen to what is not being said.”
With that said, Munch moved the knife closer to one of Gator’s eyes, who whimpered shakily, softly pleading, begging him not to.
“He does not need to see, as the cruels of this world fuel the ill part of his existence.”
“I need— I need my eyes, please, I’m sorry, I’m so sorry, I never meant to hurt her. I-I-I’m sorry I tried to kill you! I only wanted for my dad, for Roy to be proud. To see me.”
Munch laughed in the creepiest sense of the word.
“To want the devil himself to be proud of one is to sin with the deepest desire for ruin.”
“I’m good— P-Please, I can be good, I promise! Please Y/N, tell him! Tell him!”
You placed a hesitant hand on Munch’s shoulder, letting go of a shaky breath as you crouched down.
“Please don’t hurt him. Can’t you see? He’s hurting enough from the turmoil inside. It’s Roy who you should go after, he’s the real monster. Gator is only… the product of it. He’s not beyond repair, Roy is. Please, Munch.”
Munch looked up again, considering your words. He got up and rummaged around in his bag, giving you a chance to really look at Gator. He was tied up, both hands and feet and even had a rope around his neck keeping him down. Tears had found their way down across all sides of his face, many streaks mixed with blood of his own. Munch had taken his time making tiny cuts all over his face. You didn’t dare touch him, in fear of Munch getting the wrong idea and ruining whatever small chance you had to save him. Gator’s lower lip trembled and you forced yourself to look at him, trying to convey without words that you’d do anything to get him out of there. You had already been looking around for anything to use as a weapon other than the pocket knife you carried. When Munch sat back on the low stool, he presented you with a square piece of iron attached to a stick. On top of the squared piece was a symbol that you only recognized from the back of Munch’s neck. You had no idea what it meant, or why he was showing it to you, but it could hardly mean anything good.
“Balance is a means used to eradicate evil and maintain the good. The girl is good, the boy is not. The burden of balance must be shared, if the girl wishes for the boy’s release.”
Gator and you watched as munch stuck the iron into the fire, heating it up. Finally realizing what he was saying, Gator turned his head to you and shook his head.
“No, Y/N, don’t. You can’t!”
“I can’t let him take your eyes either,” you said softly, the tremble in your voice betraying your fear. Gator continued to plead, to whom he wasn’t sure. You on the other hand, turned around and bared your neck.
The searing hot metal made you nearly lose your vision as you screamed out from the pain and it was only for Munch holding you up that you didn’t collapse. With uncharacteristic gentleness, he placed a cloth on top and helped you hoist up your clothes again. Gator was next. He didn’t try to fight back as Munch released him, not after you endured this for him, turned around wordlessly so Munch could do the same to him. His hand sought yours behind him and he clutched it tightly as soon as Munch moved away. Neither of you dared to move as Munch gathered his things. Not another word was spoken until Munch left the shed, and another ten minutes passed before Gator turned around to face you.
Guilt was etched deeply into his frown, the blood only deepening the gentle wrinkles on his forehead. Then, he quietly got up, helped you up and held the door of the shed open for you so you could leave. You both didn’t have to wonder whether Munch was gone. He only stayed somewhere with purpose, not just to wander about. It was done, so he was gone. Just as you arrived at the car, Gator turned to face you.
“Why?”
The silence stuck around for a while.
“Because I can’t see you get hurt. You’re hurting enough.”
Gator sighed shakily, his trembling hands trying to find the vape that had long since been discarded somewhere during the wrestle he and Munch had had.
“That’s not for you to fix.”
“I know.”
You didn’t care.
“Roy would have just let me suffer. Would think I’d deserve it too for being such a failure.”
“I know.”
“I don’t deserve you.”
“You do.”
Gator shook his head.
“No, Y/N, I really, really don’t.”
“I love you,” you whispered. It came as a surprise to you as well. You were his friend, you had always been just his friend and while you had considered the option sometimes, you never thought you’d actually act on it. You weren’t sure if you should regret it now, seeing the astonished look on Gator’s face.
Gator realized in the back of his mind that he had never, not once, been told these words. By no one. He didn’t think he’d ever hear them, nevertheless so sincerely, warm and loving. He closed the distance between you two so quickly that you gasped. His arms curled around you, though they never touched. His exhale was shaky and so were his hands when they carefully wrapped around your waist. He flinched as he felt your hands rest on some of the cuts Munch had made on his back earlier, but didn’t care enough about the pain to stop you from hugging him back.
“I’m sorry,” Gator whispered. “I’m so sorry, I’m so sorry, Y/N, I’m—”
“Shh, it’s okay,” you whispered back as you felt his fingers dig into you all the way through your jacket.
“It’s not, it’s not okay. I— you’re— maimed for life, because of me.”
“I chose to do that.”
“I don’t—”
“You do deserve me.”
Somewhere between his apologies, he started crying. Clutching at your jacket like his life depended on it and heaving into your neck. You cried too, but from relief. Munch had allowed your compromise to give Gator a second chance, and it was worth it. You’d do anything for him.
Gator leaned back finally, to look at you, his savior. His friend. The friend who said she loved him, whatever that meant. Stared at you longer, realized he needed to know. If all went to hell, it might as well go to hell today.
Rough hands, dirtied up with dried blood took the gentlest hold of your face before chapped lips brushed against yours, waiting. Yours moved against his, the softness of your tongue soothing his own. You tasted his blood but by no means would it stop you from kissing him, his body pressing yours against the side of his car, his gentle hand covering the back of your neck to make sure he wouldn’t accidentally hurt you.
I love you too.
It wasn’t said with words, but in a world where words were limited, sometimes actions were more than enough.

BLUBBERING SPOILERS BELOW FOR I FEEL YOU LINGER IN THE AIR, EPISODE 12/FINALE:
YEAH. SO. YEAH. SO!
This can't be meta. I don't think I can conjure it. Just blather. I'll try to be sensible. First, a little housekeeping before we start the meeting:
We know there will be a special episode (the preview looks..... LIKE A GODDAMN HOLIDAY GIFT, GAAAAHHH).
Peeps are going back and forth on a second season, and while it seems that Nonkul Chanon blurted it out during the final episode fan meeting (lol you cute, Nonkul), Tee Bundit is rolling back a bit, *likely* due to funding. But seeing social media going absolutely INSANE over this ending, I can't imagine that Dee Hup will have any issue with finding the moolah for a second season -- especially after that after-credits scene, WITH HORSES, WITH MUSTACHES, WITH TATTOOS, WITH ARMOR, the whole thang. Tee let that shit hang all out like that. Warrior-era Thailand, let's m'fing go. That was a hell of a lead into a second season that may not happen, come awn.
Alright, with that out of the way:
I didn't think a show would top Moonlight Chicken for me this year, but IFYLITA is my top new drama of the year (with the HEAVY CAVEAT that I have not seen La Pluie yet -- that's for either after my Old GMMTV Challenge, or just making sure I watch it before year's end).
Part of the reason why I lost my gatdamn mind last week on episode 11 is that Tee Bundit did not interfere with any damn nonsense last week -- he let the episode's story unwind without any noise. He let the emotion roll.
The same light touch (or rather, a lack of interference) happened here, BUT: there was a LOT more happening firstly by way of closing some loops that were open, moving to new loops, and shedding more depth into Jom and Yai's final moments together
We got closure on Yai's dad, who was grumpily like, uhhh, I dunno what happened in my life, but yeah, daughter Eaung Peang, you go have a good life with Maey, crotchety crotch. I think that's the best we could get from politically involved dads of 1928 Chiang Mai. (EP AND MAEY SWINGING THEIR HANDS WHILE WALKING AWAY -- SAAAHHSHAY FROM ALL THAT, LADIES, SASHAY.) It looks like EP's herbal abortion left her safe -- thank goodness. We didn't see James or Ming this episode.
For loops that weren't closed, I'm not complaining, because we got an explanation for how Jom's beloved ones will repeat in his reincarnated futures and pasts, through the explanation of the northern Thai ceremony of having 32 blessings reinstated to you after illness or misfortune (THREE CHEERS for @blmpff for capturing screenshots of this explanation!). (AND THE WHITE THREAD, PEEPS, THE WHITE THREAD, I'm coming back to this in a second.) If we do get a season 2, then I will not be colored surprised if we see Ming and James in different roles. (And, yes. Your bitch here has relaxed on Pat's shooter, finally. My nose was trained on James being a colonialist interferer, but he did good last episode.)
But this episode belonged, of course, to Yai and Jom, their final moments together in 1928 Chiang Mai, saying the slow farewell as Jom slowly disappeared in front of Yai's eyes.
LORD. WHEWWWWWWWWWWWWW. The lacy fabric with which Yai used to cover the mirrors so that Jom wouldn't see himself fade away. The empathy of that. The scene where we heard their lovemaking over the flashbacks montage. WHEW. WHOA. (I did say, to my friend @shortpplfedup, something something Jom started really fading away after that intimate scene and something something had the ontology cough cough outta him, ANYWAY.)
The way that Yai pitched forward when Jom finally disappeared.
AND I MOTHERFUCKING SCREAMED WHEN JOM AND MUSTACHIOED YAI WERE ABOUT TO TOUCH INTO THE WATER AGAIN, AND THEN THE DIVER EMT WAS LIKE, BLOOP I'M HERE AND OH, JOM, YOU'RE ALIVE IN 2023. I yelped in the deli, shit. The way Jom was silently screaming in the water for Yai.
And, so. In the "present" day (present dimension, really), Jom survived that CRAAAAZY car accident (LIKE! WHAT?! He flew out of the car into the water, bros! The magic of fiction, anyway.)
He.......he holds space for Ohm?! Looking BACK on that scene, AFTER we get the explanation of the 32 blessings, we realize: despite Ohm's infidelity and his promise to a new woman, Ohm is still important in Jom's life -- he's still a beloved presence, as he did mean something, for a long time, to Jom. Of course, modern Jom did NOT let a moment to shade Ohm pass him by, oh no. But wasn't that interesting to note? That Jom's dimensions would allow Ohm to be in those dimensions -- that Ohm would be reincarnated through Jom's 32 blessings (at least in the past direction).
You know what I also loved about seeing Jom in his present-day apartment, with the present-day Jeed, Ohm, and Khaimuk (aka Fong Kaew). I LOVED WHAT THAT CASTING, THE SHIFTING OF THE CHARACTERS AND CHARACTERIZATIONS, SAID ABOUT JOM'S PERSPECTIVE OF EQUITY IN 1928 AND 2023.
Jeed is NOT Khun Eaung Peang. Jeed is ALL SASS. But Jeed is YOUNGER than Jom. Jom, in 2023, is P'Jom, with the honorific. Present-day Jom can smack his little sister's head in jest. Jeed can be OUT and SAFE and have a crush on her girl friend, safely, and can ask for her brother's support, OPENLY.
Jom never stopped being Jom, whether it was 2023 pre-accident, 1928, or 2023 post-accident. Jom is comfortable in his own skin, and wants happiness AND EQUITY for the people he loves around him. I love that the casting and characterizations of the incarnations of the characters reflect Jom's state of mind that all people are equal and the same, no matter a fancy honorific or a royally appointed residence.
I screamed at @shortpplfedup when I saw Jom wearing the white thread in bed during the thunderstorm. I stopped, rewound, and saw he was wearing the white thread in the water scene with Warrior Yai. The white thread never left his wrist -- he still has his blessings intact.
And, and, and, back to the house of Palanthip in 2023. Who's the lady of the house? This lady knows Jom's the only one who can open that chest. The chest opens, the drawings are there, THE PICTURE OF THEIR PARTY, AND THE LETTER FROM YAI TO JOM, THE LETTER, THE TEARS, AKSLKDF, AND, AND, AND --
Oh my god, I was crying, y'all. Shit. Just our confident dude, striding in, asking Jom, sweetheart, why are you crying. And Jom jumping into Yai's arms.
I was shaking my head. I mean. I love that we learned that Yai actually HAD HIS OWN BLESSINGS CEREMONY because he was so lost after Jom's departure. WE LEARNED ABOUT THE REST OF YAI'S LIFE. We know, now, that the Yai of 1928 yearned for Jom for the rest of his life. So much so that, at the twilight of the life of 20th-century Yai, that he had the good mind to leave Jom a letter, to let Jom know that his life was a good life, because Jom had been in it. To let Jom know that Yai's love had never faded away.
AND THEN THAT YAI CAME BACK TO JOM.
Jom, dude, you're a good dude, for these good people to be coming back to you, in dimension after dimension. That monk was right.
I told you this was just blathering; I can try to put some sensible thoughts together in a few days, but the structure of this story, the empathy of this story, the way this story was leveraged by drama and romance and HOPE. I mean. This series was utterly fantastic.
I know there's the lifelong debate of whether or not BLs "count" as queer media, and in many, many instances, they do. But since I've had the disappointment of Only Friends and GMMTV on my mind lately, I had to note, mentally, particularly during the lovemaking scene, and during the closure of this episode, that Tee really fucking handed it to anyone who criticizes BL as a not-as-sophisticated drama genre.
And you know what? I also wanna say that Tee fucking handed it to GMMTV as well. I am so DAMN glad this series was airing when Only Friends was airing. While Only Friends sat on the opportunity to present progressive ideas on queer love and queer community, IFYLITA ROLLED right into it.
(I'll ask @lurkingshan to fact-check me on the following:) Because this series was a historical drama with a queer romance centering it, I think Tee Bundit could feel free from the chains of BL tropes and expectations to do something truly singular. I felt that what I was watching was cinematic, it was moving, it was strikingly emotional, particularly because I felt that this show was showing me something that transcended any viewer's expectations of what we should be watching, as opposed to, say, a BL set in an office like Tee's Step By Step. Where that show fumbled was in the show itself not knowing if it was a workplace drama or a BL-centric romance.
IFYLITA knew what it was: a historical drama, certainly centering romance, but also balancing conversations about equity and wealth disparities across eras. With that uncomplicated centering, I think Tee Bundit made an absolutely BRILLIANT show, and it fucking WORKED.
I will scream to anyone who'll hear me. If you haven't watched I Feel You Linger In The Air yet, do it, PLEASE PLEASE. Y'all know I am an Aof Noppharnach girlie for life, and I LIVE FOR MOONLIGHT CHICKEN, I DO, I DO, all of my Asian references in MLC and the food and everything, god I loved that show, but --
IFYLITA was a cinematic masterpiece. Full stop. All hail @neuroticbookworm and @lurkingshan for telling me to keep with it after my Step By Step-PTSD. This show was worth every last minute I spent watching and writing on it.
Season 2, Warrior Yai, let's get him a better mustache -- let's FUCKING GO, BABIES.
P.S. BRIGHT AND NONKUL FOR LIFE, FOR LIFE!!!!!!! THE ACTING!!!!!! MY GOD!!!!!

let’s talk about the shadow and bone s2 ✨controversy✨
here’s my two cents. obviously, beware spoilers ahead.
specifically, this is going to be about how they handled the crows. and as a little disclaimer, you obviously don’t have to agree with me.
what i’ve seen people most upset about is how they took events from crooked kingdom (kaz’s revenge on pekka), or created scenes that somewhat resembled those events (kanej bandage scene, etc) and squashed them into the first four episodes of s2 with no build up. and i can agree that when you view it like that, it’s upsetting and underwhelming.
here’s the thing- i don’t view it like that.
the way i see it, the crows content we got in the first half of season 2 were teasers for what’s to come in their spin-off. a preview for the character development they’re about to go through in their spin-off, and laying groundwork for what’s ahead.
for example, the kanej bandage scene we got in the show was not the bathroom scene from the books. their conversation was not the same and didn’t hold nearly the same weight because it was a conversation from early in six of crows before they had relationship development. what differed was the setting and the actions, but even so, kaz attempting to clean inej’s wounds with his gloves on and telling her simply that pekka rollins killed his brother, having the “tells” convo, WAS NOT kaz opening up about his trauma while pushing himself to clean inej’s wounds without gloves and having that intense intimate moment with her. i keep seeing people say that that WAS the bathroom scene, to which i strongly disagree. what i think will happen is that in the future of the show, we will get the bathroom scene, and we’ll have that on-screen full-circle moment to when kaz was cleaning her wounds in s2 and could barely do so.
and i think that goes for all of the ck-resembling content we got from s2. save for the alby confrontation, which was directly from the books. we did get a version of the slat fight— and based on what i’ve seen with the writer’s talking about the spin-off, we’ll get something equal in emotional weight when the time is right for it. perhaps something with even higher stakes than in the books. because let’s face it, pekka rollins is probably going to be back to haunt kaz. he’s already teaming up with matthias. that guy’s gonna be back, and that’s going to mean something. the new content that will generate is almost like getting six of crows 3 and mixing it into the plot of soc and ck.
and i’m excited for that. i’m excited for the new relationship dynamics we have to work with. inej is getting a taste of her dream going with sturmhond, but we know that isn’t the end for her. she hasn’t had her arc yet where she realizes that she needs to hunt slavers for herself. when she comes back for the six of crows story, it’ll be interesting to see how the realization that something is still missing in her journey to reclaim her life will affect her.
and then there’s kaz, who’s going to be dealing with the realization that revenge is not the end, and like was lightly touched upon in the latter half of the show, he needs to figure out what’s next for him.
and sure, jesper’s getting more comfortable with being a durast where the show leaves him, but what happens when he realizes that his gambling debts have doomed his father? what happens when colm comes back into the picture? those questions from the books are still left unanswered in the show.
wylan in particular i think was done so brilliantly in the show. people were mad that they dropped that he couldn’t read early, but i think it’s genius, because it just leads casual viewers who haven’t read the books away from his other secret even more. people like my mom who haven’t read the books but seen the show just assume that he’s illiterate because he was never taught to read, because he’s presented as just some penniless guy in ketterdam with no money for food. when his true story is revealed, it’ll come as even more of a shock, and put the casual viewer in the same boat as the characters— we thought we knew this guy, but turns out we don’t know him at all. and with wylan and jesper already being in a relationship? something tells me jesper isn’t going to take that well— hence the “merchling” teasing will ensue, and the tension. if anything, their established relationship just ups the stakes. jesper thinking his friend and crush is on the ferolind when it blows up in the books is one thing, but jesper thinking his BOYFRIEND is on the ferolind when it blows up in the show? jesus christ, we aren’t ready for kit young.
what i’m trying to say is, it might help your enjoyment of the show to not view the crows scenes as THE scenes from the books, because with all my heart i don’t think that’s what they are. i’m not saying these “teaser” scenes were necessary, but that goes back to the crows’ inclusion in the shadow and bone plot being forced and unnecessary. which is unfortunate, because the crows deserve to get to the good stuff in their story, but at the moment they’re in a holding position because they just don’t have enough time sharing the screen with s&b to do their story justice. which is WHY GETTING THE SPIN-OFF IS SO IMPORTANT. if you want the storylines we love the crows for, if you want the REAL crooked kingdom scenes with their buildup and emotional impact, we gotta help the crows get their own show. even if that means watching them be filler in the s&b show. which is still completely possible to find enjoyment in, at least from my perspective— you just gotta view it less critically and more like foreshadowing for what’s to come, getting to see these characters build relationships early so that they might in fact be stronger when we get to their story in the show.
and when you view it like that it can be exciting! what’s worse than pekka that the crows will have to deal with? what confrontation will inej wiitness kaz have that affects her view of him like witnessing the alby confrontation in the books did, since she missed it in the show? how will seeing the alby confrontation affect jesper and nina’s perception of kaz (we can still get “who the hell is jordie” guys, jesper doesn’t know kaz’s brother’s name). the s&b show expanding on the crows content, even if the storylines are messy and rushed and unnecessary, is also building their relationships and characters. so when we do get the proper soc storyline, we’re ready for them in a different way than when we started the books.

braven and superbia theory :]
so my discord server allowed me to be stupid on main and rant about bravern at 11:30pm my time, so here’s just.. everything copy and pasted LMAO
also, posting this before ep4 drops, i can’t wait to see if any of my ramblings made sense
theory under the cut, spoilers for bang brave bang bravern ep. 1-3 and ep. 4 preview
the theory is this: bravern and superbia are the same species, possibly related to the deathdrives
firstly, in episode 1 and episode 3 we see bravern with a mask thing covering his face. and when you look at superbia, it seems as though they have something similar
Tumblr media
i wouldn’t say that part is superbia’s actual face, due to the purple highlights/crystal looking things on their body. bravern’s eyes are green, and he does have a green crystal or piece of glass on that gold part of his face
and also, bravern has a green background in his transformation sequences and when we first meet him.
there’s also a green trail left by him when he flies in the intro + uses his blade.
the show’s logo briefly flashes green in the op
and the green in bravern’s cockpit + the weird green liquid from ep3
and superbia’s eyes do flash purple in the op, so i’m willing to bet superbia wears a mask much like bravern when we first meet him
and now when you look at bravern and superbia, they do seem very much alike
plus, the opening hints at superbia being somewhat relevant at least, due to the fact that in most anime openings, the fight featured in it is at least somewhat relevant to the story
and also, bravern knows superbia
Tumblr media
the “you never change” implies that bravern’s fought against superbia before, or known them in the past
plus, the opening and show kind of confirmed lulu pilots superbia
1. lulu and isami have very similar outfits when piloting
2. this scene in the opening. the character does resemble lulu and the necklace looks like it was made to resemble superbia
Tumblr media
3. again, the weird liquid in the mechs’ cockpits
so in other words, bravern and superbia are definitely very similar
plus, we saw that bravern was losing to superbia without isami
without a pilot
and lulu magically appeared on a beach after superbia was defeated. and coincidentally, superbia was in the deep waters when we first see a hint of them.
and i just wanna point out that smith had no idea what lulu meant when she said her name, but bravern understood.
Tumblr media
and he didn’t look too happy about that
and in the preview for episode 4, we see a few scenes of bravern essentially being in a shitty mood. kind of looks like he’s lashing out here?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and then at the end we see a scene of lulu looking confused, and we immediately cut to this?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
so to just tldr the point that bravern and superbia are part of the same species:
1. they share similar traits and visuals in the show (mainly the colours i talked about)
2. they both have pilots
3. they have a history together (we see superbia scoffing at bravern a few times, and bravern’s quote: “you never change”)
4. bravern shows a clear dislike for superbia and isn’t all too happy about lulu
and now, the other thing: bravern and superbia are some advanced form of the deathdrives, or are related to them
so first off, when the deathdrives are defeated, they go kaboom and explode into this weird cube shaped stuff
Tumblr media
and what happened to superbia after bravern and isami’s attack?
Tumblr media
additionally, when battling superbia, bravern attacked them with a punch, which they stopped with a purple shield
and what else uses a purple shield?
yup. the deathdrives
and in episode 2, bravern explains that they’re inorganic, metallic organisms that gained something like a conscience. and both bravern and superbia show to have that
bravern’s can be sean very clearly. he talks a lot.
superbia? all we hear from them are shrieky noises and scoffing. and what do we hear from lulu? also that
so to just tldr this entire rant/rambling:
bravern and superbia show signs of being from the same species. they both needing a pilot to achieve their true strength, without them they’re not as strong.
the deathdrives also show similarities to them; that being the similar way they “die” (we’re not sure if superbia actually died in ep3, so i’m putting the word in these “ ”guys), similar abilities (barriers/shields, flight, weaponry?).
so basically, to put all of this short: bravern and superbia are some advanced form of the deathdrives, probably existing to be something like commanders in an army, seeing how superbia kind of teamed up with the deathdrives?
anyway, hope this makes sense LMAO 😭

Keeping up with the Olympians
#kuwto
Episode 7:
Preview: Olympus and the Underworld are a living hell! Zeus and Hera are back to the fighting scene after the "bitch" incident. Poseidon and Amphitrite are in tge same fate as Zeus and Hera, but a little better. Hades decides to take Persephone on a vacation in the unknown lands of the Underworld. Ares and Aphrodite celebrate their union again once and for all, while Apollo falls in love with Hyacinthus. Many more to follow on this unholy episode!
Scene 1: (Zeus and Hera back on Olympus)
Hera: I can't believe you!
Zeus: You act like you don't know me.
Hera: What do you expect me to do?
Zeus: Get over it!
Hera: Really?
Zeus: Why so aggressive?
Hera: You think that's aggressive? I'll show you aggressive!
Zeus: Hera! No! Not the condoms! I need them!
Hera: For what exactly?
Zeus: Oops!
Hera: I'll kill you with my own hands!
Zeus: Catch the thunder bitch!
Zeus' confessional:
Thanks to my thunderbolts I run away this time! But I don't know for how long I can hide from her! Until she finds me, let's seduce this little mortal girl!
Hera's confessional:
He may have run away, but he doesn't know that I have installed a mini tracker on his wedding ring! Hephaestus darling, you are my favorite son! For today at least!
____________
Scene 2: (Poseidon and Amphitrite)
Poseidon: Babe, let's talk it out!
Amphitrite: Did the wall just talk?
Poseidon: Don't act like that!
Amphitrite: Yeah, definitely the wall is talking.
Poseidon: I'll say whatever I have to say and if you want listen to me! I love you more than everything in this world! You are my queen, my equal, my eternal consort, my other half. Without you a day passes awfully slow, painfully alone! My heart calms around you, my soul is screaming your name! If I didn't love you, I wouldn't have chased you so far away from Greece to get you to notice me when you refused my proposal in the very beginning! Please my queen, forgive me!
Amphitrite ready to cry: You mean it Poseidon? You really love me that much?
Poseidon: If I didn't love you, I wouldn't be here now!
Amphitrite: Ok then, I forgive you, but this is the last chance I give you!
Poseidon: I'm forever grateful honey!
Amphitrite's confessional:
I am really moved by Poseidon's words! I can't believe he loves me that much!
Poseidon's confessional:
Thanks goodness Eros wrote down those sweet words I told her! I owe you one nephew!
___________
Scene 3: (Ares, Aphrodite, Hermes and Dionysus)
Ares: I can't believe I got him out of my plate!
Aphrodite: It was about time!
Ares: So, how are we gonna celebrate our reconciliation?
Aphrodite: Let's burn all Apollo's photos!
Ares: Let's paint the curtains red!
Aphrodite: You mean the town red?
Ares: No! The curtains! He hates red curtains!
Aphrodite: That's diabolical!
Ares: Babe, I'm fucking war!
Aphrodite: I love your fierceness baby!
Hermes on the phone behind the door: Apollo, Ares will paint your curtains red-
Ares: Wait! Did you hear that?
Aphrodite moves to open the door and Hermes falls on the floor forward along with Dionysus.
Ares: You stupid ass bitches! What are you doing in my palace?
Hermes: Apollo hung up, they discovered us!
Dionysus:It's not what it looks like!
Aphrodite: Apollo told you to come and spy on us! Traitors! Hermes, I thought we were friends!
Hermes: No no! Apollo has no idea about it! I swear on Styx!
Dionysus: Wow! You suck at telling the truth!
Hermes: I am a professional liar! What did you expect?
Ares: So, if Apollo doesn't know about this, then why are you here?
Dionysus: We care about him, and we wanted to see if this was for real!
Ares: Wow! You are unbelievable!
Hermes: I know I am!
Aphrodite: He wasn't complimenting you!
Hermes: Nevermind.
Ares: Get lost from my palace both of you!
Dionysus: Or else?
Ares: Deimos! Phobos! Hermes said you are lame!
Hermes: What?
Dionysus: Ain't no fucking way!
Hermes: Run for your life!
__________
Scene 4: (Apollo, Hermes, Dionysus)
Apollo's confessional:
I don't care about Ares anymore! Hyacinthus is a real sunshine, a real loyal lover!
Hermes: Apollo! Help!
Apollo: What's wrong? And what were you saying on the phone earlier?
Dionysus: That's not important right now! Deimos and Phobos are on their way here!
Apollo: Oh no! What did you do?
Hermes: We were spying on Ares and he unleashed those two little brats to chase us away from his palace!
Apollo: You idiots! Deimos and Phobos went on vacation with their girlfriends a week ago!
Dionysus: Damn! He is right!
Hermes: We are safe!
Apollo: Ok, what's the matter now?
Hermes: Ares wants to paint your curtains red and burn your photos!
Apollo: Who cares about him? Hyacinthus has my heart now!
Dionysus: Did you overcome it so quickly?
Apollo: Love is the solution to everything!
Hermes: Ok then! So what now?
Apollo: I'll enjoy my life with him!
Dionysus: You know him only for one week!
Apollo: I knew Ares for centuries and this id how it turned out!
Hermes: He has a point there.
Apollo: I'll focus on myself more, I'll think positively amd I'll devote myself on everything that makes me feel happy!
Dionysus: I'm happy for you bro!
Hermes: We will always be there for you!
_____________
Scene 5: (Persephone and Hades)
Persephone's confessional:
Hades told me we will have splendid vacation after our fight. He said he will show me places I have never seen in my life again. I can't wait!
Hades: Babe! Are you ready?
Persephone: Yep!
Hades: Wait, why 3 suitcases?
Persephone: I didn't know where we are going, so I took summer and winter clothes! Shouldn't have I?
Hades: Actually, never mind! Let's go.
Persephone: I don't like that tone Hades. Is something wrong?
Hades: You shouldn't have packed anything.
Persephone: You are right! All we need is one another!
Hades: That's the spirit babe! Now let's go to Tartarus.
Persephone: Tartarus? What are we gonna do there?
Hades: We will go to Tartarus to see the titans.
Persephone: Excuse me?
Hades: After all these years we are together, I find it strange that you haven't shown interest in meeting our ancestors.
Persephone: Are you serious? Cronos swallowed you when you were a baby! Why would I meet him personally?
Hades: There is no interest to your grandfather?
Persephone: He is a scumbag!
Hades: Persephone! Show some respect to my family!
Persephone: Excuse you, but you weren't respectful to my mother when you abducted me!
Hades: That's besides the point!
Persephone: Really? Is that so?
Hades: What else did you expect?
Persephone: I'm outta here!
Hades: You can't go to your mother!
Persephone: Watch me Hades!
____________
Scene 6: (Demeter, Hestia, Hera and Persephone)
Hera's confessional:
After everything that happened with Zeus, I really need my sisters by my side.
Hera: He called me bitch!
Demeter: Who calls someone like that in a sexy way!
Hera: Exactly.
Hestia: That's disgraceful!
Persephone barges into the room crying
Persephone: Mommy!
Demeter: Baby!
Hug scene
Demeter: Why are you crying? Did your shitty man do something stupid?
Persephone: Yeah, he wanted to take me to meet Cronos!
Hera:.....
Hestia:.....
Demeter:......
Persephone: Hey! Tell me something! Why so silent?
Hestia: Well, that's not something weird to me.
Hera: I agree.
Demeter: That's why you are sad?
Persephone: Excuse me, what's wrong with everyone today?
Demeter: He may be a shitty man, but still it is no harm to watch him even from far away. He is our dad afterall.
Persephone: Are you listening to yourself?
Hera: Well, little Persephone, know that all of us have visited our dad over the centuries.
Hestia: He is our dad and thus your grandad. I don't see why not.
Persephone: I'm outta here!
Persephone departs
Hera: Anyways! Where were we?
Hestia: At the bitch topic. But what is to die for was Demeter with Poseidon and Amphitrite fighting!
Hera: Ohhh! What did I lose?
Demeter: I'd rather not talk about it.
Persephone barges again into the room.
Persephone: What happened with Poseidon?
Demeter: Oh dear lord!
Hera: Spit it out sis!
Demeter: We slept together. Amphitrite found out and came here looking for the ankle monitor detector. But Poseidon was also there and we ended up fighting with Hestia swinging your white sheet as a peace flag.
Hera: My white sheet?
Hestia: Did you prefer I took one of Zeus' white underwear instead?
Persephone: What? No! She'll catch gonorrhea!
Hera: What?
Demeter: Darling! That wasn't very nice!
Hera: Run for your miserable life Persephone!
Persephone starts running with Hera following right behind.
Hestia: This week is quite tiring!
Demeter: You tell me!
__________
Scene 7: (Athena, Artemis, Ares)
Athena: Don't tell a single soul, but I stole Ares' shield!
Artemis: Wait! How did you lift it? I thought he was the only one who could lift his shield!
Athena: Nothing escapes my mind!
Artemis: That's why I love you!
Athena: I love you too sis! Now let's take it to Hephaestus!
Artemis: Wait! Why?
Athena: Hephaestus wants to apologize to Ares and we need to help him.
Artemis: I never thought you would help out Ares make up with his brother.
Athena: I'm doing this for Hephaestus, not this hotheaded bitch!
Ares barges in
Ares: You lil bitch! You stole my shield!
Athena: What? Who? Me?
Ares: Yes! You! You are holding it right now!
Athena: Oh! That's a replica one! I told Hephaestus to make tge same one for me!
Ares: You think I am stupid?
Athena: Yes, but that's a conversation for another time.
Ares: Give it back now!
Athena: But it's not yours!
Ares: But it is!
Athena: But it's not!
Ares: But it's not!
Athena: But it is!
Artemis:.....
Athena: Shit!
Ares: You said it yourself, now give it back you pussy bitch!
Athena: Over my dead body!
Ares: You wanna fight? I'll give you a fight!
Athena: Come on! You'll lose again as always!
Ares: I don't think so this time!
Ares departs.
Artemis: What was that now?
Athena: I don't know!
Artemis: You better sleep with an eye open.
Athena: Pfft! Bitch please! What is he gonna do?
____________
Scene 8: ( Hephaestus and Hermes)
Hephaestus: I can't believe that!
Hermes: Isn't that amazing?
Hephaestus: Definitely!
Hermes: Why do you wanna apologize to Ares?
Hephaestus: Because I know I was on the wrong. He had a relationship with Aphrodite way before. They had children together!
Hermes: Is that all? Then why did you break them apart?
Hephaestus: Because I thought that Aphrodite would ameliorate my status on this unholy mountain, but apparently that was wrong!
Hermes: I'm glad you acknowledge your mistake!
Hephaestus: I am a shitty brother!
Hermes: I think that Ares is gonna appreciate it.
Hephaestus: You think so?
Hermes: Both of you are very misunderstood bro. He is in tge same place as you.
Hephaestus: I hope it ends well this time!
_____________

Compartmentalizing
So I was re-watching Step By Step Episode 10 yesterday when I started to notice something. I was planning on writing about it today, but @chicademartinica beat me to the punch line.
HOWEVER! There is more I can build off of here and so I am gonna!
I was talking with @shortpplfedup today and she started a fabulous analysis of Jeng that I hope she will post…
When she mentioned that Jeng was trying to compartmentalize Pat from the rest of his life, and both of these things (chica’s post and Nini’s brilliance) spoke to an observation I had also had, and that I touched on in my post the other day.
Boxes.
Last week @respectthepettymade a wonderful post about how Jeng has always been boxed in, separate from Pat and the rest, and how the preview for Episode 10 had Jeng stepping past that barrier line
Tumblr media
and well, you would think that after crossing that barrier, that Jeng and Pat would no longer be confined. You’d think that they’d have eliminated everything that was holding them back…
But instead, every single scene with Jeng and Pat together boxes them in. EVERY. SINGLE. ONE.
And I AM TEARING AT THE CURTAINS BECAUSE OF IT
Scene 1
Pat has his third eye opened thanks to everyone’s favorite Gay Fairy Godmother, Chot and has decided it is time to get over the hang ups he has and be honest with Jeng about his feelings. It is Jeng’s birthday, so on the way to confess his mutual interest, he stops to get a cake (#anticarrotcake for those of you on tumblr following the carrot cake wars)
Tumblr media
Pat is boxed in by the display case looking at a cake he is going to get for Jeng.
Scene 2
Pat arrives at the kitchen, and calls after Jeng, who at first remains with his back fully turned, unable to look in Pat’s direction. Until he gets the courage to turn around and
Tumblr media
Here Jeng is, in his little box, all alone, but here Pat comes, approaching the edge of the barrier, stepping right up to the line
Tumblr media
And collapsing over it, entering Jeng’s space, entering Jeng’s world, barreling right into it face first.
Tumblr media
And that is where he and Jeng will stay for the entire episode, inside their own box, inside their own little world.
Scene 3
They finish eating each other and eat cake instead and are immediately trapped together here, walls on either side as they start navigating being openly affection with each other (and perform a phone screen ad) they don’t know it yet, but they’ve already sealed the fate on, and created an inevitable downfall for themselves…at this point though, they’ve merely missed the “turn back, unstable ground ahead” sign.
Tumblr media
Scene 4
X amount of time passes and we see Pat and Jeng trying (and failing) to be discreet at the office, going so far as to hold hands, touch arms and legs, and play footsie under the desk
Tumblr media
This is a little less obvious of a box but the arms of their office chairs and the side of the desk create a box inside of which their physical affection for one another can exist.
Scene 5
Work ends, Pat and Jeng get in Jeng’s car and the entire day’s worth of unrestrained sexual tension comes crashing together.
Tumblr media
Here we actually end up getting a double box, with Pat and Jeng enclosed by the car window, and Jeng’s car, existing as a current space for intimacy with Pat is also sitting in between two barriers (the window support structures in the background). They have had to spend the entire day being aware of the people around them, and while they have ultimately failed to be completely separate in the office, the second they are alone, they re-enter their own little world. Closed off from everything around them.
Scene 6
Jeng is openly flirting with Pat during office badminton, and being so obvious about it that his assistant notices and Chot has to bail him out by asking Jeng for water too so it won’t look like he is favoring Pat. Notably, the three queer men in the office are closed in, closed off from the rest of the group, in their own world. Keep the fact that Chot can enter their box in mind as we continue.
Tumblr media
(Chot's hair in this scene is one of the best parts of the episode)
This moment, these barriers are where Jeng and Pat have no longer accidentally missed the “turn back now, unstable ground” sign on their path of doom, but have found caution tape and ducked underneath it to press on.
Scene 7
We cut to Jeng’s condo, and the first image we see is of Pat standing alone inside the double barrier, admiring the view in front of him, we’re about to start heading towards Pat’s office homophobia journey and we’re getting a little foreshadowing here that Jeng is going to end up leaving Pat to his own devices.
Tumblr media
But for now, Jeng enters the scene, enters the box where he and Pat can exist together, can share space together, can be open and affectionate and attracted to each other.
Tumblr media
Jeng asks Pat to come with him to give some leftover food from the bakery to the homeless.
Scene 8
Jeng and Pat give away the food and go and sit together under the bridge, where they are immediately boxed in by concrete pillars and discussing cruelty. This is where Jeng and Pat are at their peak. At their strongest, and you can see that because they are literally sandwiched between two concrete pillars rather than thin metal lines of window panes.
Tumblr media
They are at their strongest as a couple here, because this is the truest and most honest part of Jeng that he has shown to Pat since they started fucking. (And I will be referring to what they have now as fucking, they are in lust, they are in like, but they are not in love). This is where Pat has his first opportunity to get to know Jeng a bit better, what his mindset away from work is, how he is trying to solve the world’s problems. Pat gets to see the Jeng that Jeng has often had to tuck away, here in their own little world.
Tumblr media
And then this person enters, the artist of the stick figure drawing that sits above Pat and Jeng’s head.
Remember Chot? Chot, gay man, one of three in the office? Remember how he was able to enter Pat and Jeng’s barriers at badminton? Alright, well, here again we have someone who doesn’t quite…enter the boundary, but does cross in to it, stands in front of Jeng and Pat in a way that does not place them all the way outside of it especially because his drawing is inside their boundary.
Why is this important?
Well, I wrote about this the other night but that person only says two lines to Jeng and Pat:
“That picture was drawn by me, you look the same,”
“It looks like us”
Which means I have decided to interpret this character confirming his own queerness. So a second queer person is able to join Pat and Jeng in their little bubble. Jeng and Pat have hiked the trail, they have missed one sign, ignored the other, and have found their pristine view.
But, remember, the ground is unstable and the earth is starting to quake (and not just from them...nevermind)
Scene 9
Tumblr media
Jeng enters a work meeting with Pat, Chot, and his busybody of an assistant. Again, Jeng is boxed in, but this time he is alone. He is compartmentalizing, trying to compartmentalize his life, here he is trying to put himself back into the box of Boss, and on the surface he appears that way, but in reality Pat is sitting before him. So while Jeng may be trapped here, in the expectations of his family to run this part of the business, he is looking forward, looking forward to Pat.
Tumblr media
And where Jeng’s box in this scene is made of glass (we’ve been talking a lot about glass closets recently with this show….anyway) the assistant is also boxed in…around wood. Something you can’t see through. Boxed in, however, by a door. Something that can be opened, something that can be opened and reveal something beyond. Pat has entered Jeng’s world and they have spent all their time together inside that world, inside that barrier, unable to look out, and unwilling to see what is happening around them.
Scene 10
One of the least obvious visible barriers and one of the most obvious emotional barriers
Tumblr media
Jeng sandwiched between Pat and Pat’s Dad. But he’s still boxed in here, with the top of that window wall running just barely above his head. Visually, he is still caged in here. But this barrier is made up of potential family, and Pat is out to his father, in a way that I don’t think Jeng is to his. (By that I mean I think, no I am sure, that Jeng’s Dad knows he’s gay, but it’s not exactly like Jeng can take Pat around to meet his pops. Especially not after their first encounter….). Jeng is undeterred, refers to Pat’s father as “Dad” does not try to defend himself against his angry ranting or attempts at instigating a fight cause of how many nights Jeng left Pat crying.
Scene 11
Unsurprisingly I have many additional thoughts about this scene and the way they utilize the boundaries here, but I’m going to save the additional thoughts for a different post.
Tumblr media
There are many many many many instances in this scene where Pat and Jeng are trapped in a frame, but I’m using this one for the Dutch angle, because Dutch angles make things seems off-kilter. And unfortunately for Pat and Jeng that’s the way this is going, their foundation has not been built up the way it needs to be for them to be strong and stable. But they are too wrapped up in each other to see the ways things are beginning to turn.
Scene 12
Tumblr media
Boxed in yet again, this time with Ae and Kanon pushing themselves between them. But this barrier, this box wasn’t of their own making, this is one that Jeng and Pat were invited in to, (like literally invited to) and it is a box they can not stand together in, they must stand apart.
Scene 13
Jeng is riding the high of unlimited access to young, talented, and enthusiastic dick and starts imagining a wedding between him and Pat. Once again they are boxed in by the archway, and personally I think it is worth noting that the most intricate, decorated, and beautiful barrier Pat and Jeng are placed inside of this entire episode…is in a fantasy.
Tumblr media
Scene 14
Jeng calls Pat into his office to talk about the Forge Project and a promotion to manager!
Tumblr media
Now, obviously all visual media is up to the interpretation of the viewer. So if you will allow me to be absolutely ridiculous in my interpretation of this shot. The barrier around them here is a little less obvious (similarly to the barrier from Scene 2 when Jeng has Pat pressed up against the glass). The barrier here is made up by two separate walls, one at an angle, and one side of the barrier is hidden by Jeng’s shelves.
Personally, I think Pat and Jeng feel like they are being careful at work, they are certainly not maintaining healthy distances, and they are by far pushing their luck, but the affection we have seen them directing towards each other in the moments in the office are 90% eye contact, 10% everything else so I’m certain in their minds, they are like ‘yeah, no one knows’ and that’s reflected in way this barrier is framed. At first glance the scene looks open, like they have freedom to move around, the windows show the city beyond and so you have all this…space. But the barrier is there, because they aren’t capable of staying in the world outside.
Scene 15
Tumblr media
Pat is left to his own devices, Jeng nowhere to be seen, and suddenly the real world is knocking at his door. Pat is left to view homophobic comments about him from the other side of a wall. From the inside, looking out, Pat is suddenly enlightened to the real world consequences of his relationship with Jeng, and those consequences are pressing right up against him. He is trapped here, he has no room to move around, he has no space to breathe in, he cannot fit anyone else in this space with him. He is alone and being crushed.
Scene 16
Tumblr media
More homophobia, more vitriol thrown in Pat’s direction, and another box Pat’s found himself in. One he can’t leave, one that makes him a spectacle to others. Pat is on display. Not only does the window trap Pat inside it, but the way the whiteboard and the perpendicular dividers for the cubicles are placed fully makes it feel like Pat’s in an enclosure. Like he’s at the zoo, like he’s putting on a show. Ying and the woman in blue are on the edges of this barrier, the woman in blue peers at Pat in his enclosure, Ying reaches through the bars to keep Pat there. The only person who is fully inside that barrier with him?
Chot.
Once again, the other gay in the office is able to exist inside the boundaries. In this case the boundaries seem more sinister. These boundaries weren’t built by Jeng or Pat, they were created by the other people in the office.
Scene 17
Meanwhile, Jeng is being alerted to the fact there are rumors circulating about him and Pat. But Jeng doesn’t care. Because Jeng has money, has power, and has a second job should all of this go South.
Tumblr media
It is as Nini said, Jeng is compartmentalizing hard. Here Jeng is initially standing outside the barrier. Refusing to enter the business side of things. He’s blending in with his surroundings here almost, like if he stood still enough people might not notice him. He doesn’t want to hear anything about the rumors, so he refuses to leave the barriers he has created around himself. But just like Pat in Scene 15, the walls around Jeng are closing in, that space Jeng has around him that is supposed to be for him and Pat is no longer big enough for both of them.
Jeng is told that Pat needs to be taken off the Forge project. Jeng is told the Board is going after Pat.
Tumblr media
Reluctantly Jeng steps back into the corporate world.
Scene 18
A long, hard, emotionally taxing day at work for Pat and we get the next box
Tumblr media
Okay, I lied, it’s not a box. Pat is standing at the end of a walking path and is no longer able to move forward. And though logically we know that there is legitimately space on either side of Pat that would allow him to walk around or exit, the way the cubicles line up make it look like they are trapping Pat in.
Pat cannot move forward, his next move can only be walking back.
Scene 19
Pat and Jeng are cuddling in the evening and the events around the office are clearly weighing heavy on Pat’s mind, but as we know by now, Jeng is compartmentalizing, Jeng is ignoring the world around him, he doesn’t want to acknowledge it. At the beginning of the episode Pat entered in to Jeng’s world, stepped through Jeng’s barriers, stayed in there with him.
But now?
Now things are changing. Now Pat has seen what lies beyond the walls they’ve put around themselves.
And when Pat suggests he and Jeng stay apart for a little bit, while Pat is laying in Jeng’s space, Jeng does not want to entertain the conversation and tries to shut it down in every way he can.
Tumblr media
And he is only successful when he moves in to Pat’s space, but it’s not because Jeng’s successfully soothed Pat’s fears. No, it’s because Pat gave up trying to express his concerns to Jeng.
Tumblr media
And Pat is left alone, stuck in his own head, while Jeng rests peacefully outside Pat’s world.
Scene 20
I have to give it up to Pat for valuing himself enough to ditch Jeng in the middle of the night, and then go over Jeng’s head to Jeng’s father and resign from the company. Pat’s pissed, Pat is being the responsible one, and Jeng knows he fucked up. When we see him sitting in that conference room he is moping. Full on kicked puppy dog, and I’d hope that that would be enough for Jeng to do some introspection, and to finally stop trying to keep Pat separate from everything else in his life. But we will have to wait and see how the next two episodes go.
We end the episode with Jeng, sipping coffee, stuck back between two barriers that can barely fit him.
Tumblr media
SO
That is every single scene with Jeng and Pat together and even a few where they are apart, and this whole essay has been my evidence that they are throwing walls up everywhere this episode.
The lesson here, kids, is that Jeng and Pat rushed in to this too fast. They spent all this time in a slow burn because they were valuing the workplace, because Pat was trying to get over his crush on his boss, because there were a lot of fucking considerations that needed to happen.
But Jeng grew impatient, and got swept up in the moment, and Pat was stuck right in there with him. They closed themselves off to everything around them. They stopped paying attention to anything but each other, which meant they weren’t careful, which meant other people caught on, which meant that Pat, who has no power in this company, was forced to face reality and Jeng, who has power and is happy for the first time in who knows how long, stuck his head in the sand, refused to look at Pat’s reality, and ultimately let Pat down in a big way, and he’s gonna suffer for it. They are both going to suffer for it.
Onwards towards the Episode 11 Curse!

with all due respect what the fuck is this even supposed to mean. we have been told 7 million times that the show is about louis claudia and lestat and we have been told another 3 million times that season 2 is about claudia and her story coming to light. but instead of ever actually engaging with what the crew and cast are saying its the same bullshit about shipping and making up issues so that you can pre-justify hating a season that hasn't even come out yet just because its clear from the previews that its not whatever wattpad love triangle hurt comfort damsel in distress narrative that you've been constructing from thin air for months. at what point do we actually get serious. what are you talking about trying to act as if this is some scheme to undermine people of color when, again, 2/3 leads for the entire show are black and when those 2 are the stars of season 2 again. and then you're mad that the main secondary character who is brown doesn't only have scenes with louis...? when they're still going to be the primary romantic relationship of s2 regardless...? "wah wah loustat got a whole season" claudia is getting a whole season. the entire second half of the arc is about her. claudia was in 4/7 episodes last season and her experiences w louis and lestat were just as important as their experiences with each other and yet god forbid you acknowledge that she exists and is a central character bc then you can't reduce the entire series to a shipping war. i understand having worry bc of previous fandom or show experiences but at a certain point you are saying that you know better and know best than the people of color that are actually creating this project and that have been explicitly open and honest about how they managed those worries to create something that actually feels good to them. if when s2 comes out there's racism in the text and within the crew and cast to discuss then we do that but right now all this appears to be to me is desperate scrambling to find reasons to hate the show ahead of armand killing claudia so that you can be like "actually it was racist for them to cast people of color if they weren't going to make them magical negroes and comic relief saudi prince archetype like the fic i made up in my head 7 months before s2 came out" get a job

Golf Girls' (Love) Anime 'Birdie Wing' Season 2 Releases First Promotional Video, New Theme Songs
On Sunday, the first promotional video for Birdie Wing: Golf Girls' Story season 2 was released on the anime's official website and Bandai Namco's YouTube page. The PV was released during a special preview screening of the season's first episode.
youtube
The PV featured the new ending theme, "Kimi ga Iru Kara" (Since You Are There) by Sarasa Kadowaki, and revealed that Kohmi Hirose returns to perform the new opening theme, "Venus Line."
Birdie Wing follows bullish underground golfer Eve. After Eve’s first meet up with Aoi on the grass left her in defeat, she’s had her eyes set on a rematch to return the favor. Both these up-and-coming golfers are highly skilled, highly unique and most of all, highly competitive. With dreams of making it pro, a rivalry is getting in full swing as they both battle it out in the biggest tournaments.
Takayuki Inagaki directs the anime at Bandai Namco Pictures. The first season aired in the Spring of 2022. It stars Akari Kiou and Asami Seto as Eve and Aoi, respectively. A second season was announced following the first's conclusion in June, although it was delayed from its original January premiere to April 2023 due to "various circumstances."
Critics celebrate the series for its ridiculous and campy story that twists tropes and rules of sports anime and the relationship between the main characters. The series includes Yuri themes and is set in the country of Nafrece, a fictional location appearing in other Yuri works by Birdie Wing writer Yousuke Kuroda. Nafrece also appears in Madlax and Valkyrie Drive: Mermaid.
You can stream the first season of Birdie Wing on Crunchyroll and look forward to the second season's release in April 2023.

Thanks to the Rings of Power Updates Twitter/X they posted past of an interview with Charlie Vickers that a lot of us including me don't remember seeing from October of 2022 after the season 1 finale previewing his role as Sauron in the upcoming 2nd season. Here's the full thing since the preview image cut it off:
"I mean, to be honest, it hasn't changed my approach to the character that much compared to season one at this date, because I knew for most of season one, really. It's just that now it's out in the open. I guess that's where the difference is. And it's in the writing mainly. We get to see Sauron openly doing his thing, at least from the audience's perspective. The other characters don't know, but I think for me, it's quite interesting to be able to play things a bit more with the knowledge that the audience is in on it with me now. It informs some of the decisions I make. That's the main difference, I would guess."
Now for those of us like myself who been keeping up with the various scoops we've been getting from Fellowship of Fans and other interviews/sources this goes along with what they've been saying but also adds to it too. Putting that behind a cut as it contains likely major spoilers.
From FOF and others we know the show is doing some sort of Annatar storyline with another actor playing this "original form" but it's only in the last couple of episodes. However, we'll see Charlie shapeshift into this other form in a fight with Adar early in season 2 as it is the form Adar knew. Now reading Charlie's comments this makes me think again that even with them still doing the Annatar storyline that we'll actually still get Charlie with the most screen-time and doesn't change his status as the main Sauron actor going forward, and there's already spoilers backing that up as Charlie's filmed a lot as Halbrand with Adar, Amelia Kenworthy's character, the men, and the dwarves at least. Possibly in scenes with Galadriel too as a lot of us speculate they'll still have that connection to see each other in dreams. But Charlie's words also seem to confirm that Galadriel either doesn't tell the others that Halbrand is Sauron or only a select few know, so I'm curious how that is going to happen especially with Celebrimbor. But they can easily do this Annatar storyline line similar to how Tom Hiddleston shapeshifts as Loki and we/the audience knows it's him and then he shapeshifts back to his Halbrand form in the finale or we also see Charlie on-screen but the characters see this other form. Plus, I doubt this original form/Annatar actor is staying past this season as most of us think Charlie will still play Sauron till the show ends, especially for when he goes back to Numenor as he already was there as Halbrand, so seeing this statement from Charlie just helps to confirm that for me and I'm really excited we'll finally be getting season 2 next fall.

ok guys walk with me: annabeth's abssence from the underworld scenes teased so far, possible athena's appearence and the 4 pearls theory (spoilers from the first book)
From the previews, trailers and teasers, we can assume annabeth is not gonna be a part of most of the events that take place in the underworld. From what I recall, she is not featured in most scenes in the underworld that were teased so far, apart from the cliff and the forest with the creepy ass bald dolls (im guessing those are a part of the underworld realm). We only see percy and grover in most scenes.
At first, i thought maybe she is gonna be sent to camp sooner than what happens in the book, but the teasers show that annabeth will be present in the ares fight (which happens after the events in the underworld). And that debunks my theory that she will be sent to camp before grover.
So why do you guys think she is not present in most scenes?
I think maybe she is gonna be held somewhere in the underworld apart from the boys for some time. My guess is that the precipice we see annabeth falling in might be the same one ferberus is in (from the clip where we see percy holding the red rubber ball, with only grover by his side). Im not sure how she gets out of there, and by her abssence of most of the teasers, im thinking maybe she is gonna be held there for most of the episode, but i have no idea how she is gonna convince the boys to keep going without her. Maybe they leave her under ferberus's protection, if they keep the scene where the two of them bond? (However, so far, we only see percy with the red rubber ball and we only see grover standing beside him).
Either way, we know that they are gonna keep the part where percy is alone delivering the bolt, bc he is alone in the scenes teasing olympus. He is also still wearing the green flanel when he returns to camp, while annabeth is wearing the camp t-shirt, meaning she got there before and they reunite in that scene.
As for the 4th pearl, I think that the addition of it might have happened to show that poseidon thought of sally (the gift of only 3 pearls in the book never made sense to me, did poseidon run out of pearls in his stock?). However, i still think something will happen so that the story keeps on track, with percy being forced to choose between his mother and his best friends in the show too. My guess is that at least one of the pearls might be stolen or accidentally lost.
At first, i thought maybe they'll use a pearl to save annabeth from the precipice, if the pearl was her only chance to escape. Maybe percy would throw one of the pearls and miss the first time, maybe ferberus eats a pearl?? wtf, idk. So he must choose to give her a second pearl, and then has to choose again, this time between grover, sally or himself in the underworld later. But annabeth's presence in the fight with ares has really confused all my theories. So truly i have no idea what is really gonna happen. Maybe the pearl only sends her out of the underworld, she waits for them, then the ares fight happens and THEN annabeth and grover go to camp. But i dont see how she would accept to leave either. Anyway, i hate the possibility of us seeing less of annabeth in the last 2 episodes. I really hope to see the 3 of them braving the underworld together.
I also believe we will meet athena in this season, since all the other gods that appear in the opening are confirmed to appear this season. Maybe she stops being a deadbeat and shows up to save annabeth from the precipice? YEAH RIGHT

Brief Thoughts and Speculation on Buddy Daddies - Episode 5 - SPOILERS!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Last week, in Ep. 4, we had an episode that highlighted a flaw of Kazuki: his desire to show-off and come off as fancy and rich, something we’ve seen with his approach to cooking and such too, and him forcing that onto Miri and Rei. This turned into a parenting flaw that ended up emotionally hurting Miri. Unintentionally of course, but Kazuki ends up realizing how this hurt Miri, speaks to Miss Anna about it, learns, grows as a parent, and things work out okay for Miri.
So this week it looks like the focus is going to be on Rei’s flaw (not being diligent enough when it comes to Miri, when she had the gun he was like “we don’t keep it loaded,” and Kazuki commented in Ep. 4 how Rei fell asleep while they were doing all the prep work for daycare).
He is definitely trying and making an effort with Miri, for sure. But I don’t think the responsibility level has really sunk in yet for him. It looks like this episode might be his wake up call in regards to that, since the summary states that Rei, who is exhausted (above image), takes his eyes off Miri and she heads outside of the house on her own.
From the preview video for Episode 5. We see Ryo Ogino, the other hitman that showed up at the end of Ep. 2 and who has some connection to the incident that killed Kazuki’s wife:
Tumblr media
And then a clip of him picking up Miri with his hand:
Tumblr media
So Miri is in physical danger. In a way that Kazuki and Rei have no control over (unlike in the instances in Ep. 1 and 2, when she was right there with them when they were doing their hit jobs). The situation is also different now. In Ep. 1 and 2, she was just “some kid” that they found and were taking care of momentarily until she went back to her mother.
But after Ep. 3, she is now their kid. And they’ve since emotionally bonded with her and both have chosen (individually, without the others influence) to be her papa. Societally they are viewed as her fathers now as well, so this changes everything.
My guess is that this situation is going to lead to some emotional growth on Rei’s part and him learning how to take more responsibility for Miri’s physical well being. We know by the opening sequence of Ep. 1, which takes place later than Ep. 5, since they are both back to working fully, that Rei still has some room to grow (sending her to daycare with a runny nose), but I think this episode (and possibly the next, if it leaves off on a cliffhanger) will be a big step in the right direction (emotionally) for Rei.
I love the pacing and character development progression we’ve been seeing in this anime so far, it makes sense, and I also like the realistic approach it’s been taking to their family life and situational stuff (like the fact that we are going to see Kazuki and Rei having some financial problems in this week’s episode, as a follow up to all of the money they splurged away in Ep. 4, instead of just ignoring that aspect). It makes it feel like each bit of growth and development and situation holds some actual weight to it, and aren’t just standalone moments in their lives.

What are your thoughts on Mal's route in Blades 2?
OOOH this is such an interesting question! Tbh I'll probably have a different answer by the end of the book but in short, I think that the idea was interesting but the execution was flawed. I feel like that could be said about most of the love interests but it's very prominent with Mal.
First, taking this route with Mal isn't out of the question. I always saw it like this: the other LIs have one barrier (getting them to open up to us). However, Mal had the additional barrier of having a ~facade~ hiding his vulnerability. It's one of the reasons the finale of his route in B1 was so satisfying. Simply put, it would be harder to reach his true self because it becomes a two-step process rather than a one-step process. I'm not trying to reduce people's complicated natures to numerical values, it's just a metric I'm using to explain my thought process.
I bring this up because MC's disappearance reinforces Mal's belief that prevents him from getting too close to anyone. That wall that he's built around his heart that has slowly fallen? It's back up now and even stronger. If MC of all people, the Savior of Morella, left him, who's to say they won't leave again even if they've returned? Case in point, I'm not super upset if they did this for the sake of the plot, but they didn't give this part of the story enough weight, which makes it harder to take seriously. This leads to my biggest problem with Blades II so far: its pacing issue.
Personally, they didn't balance the ratio of plot to emotional development as well as in the first book, which had a clear goal in each chapter that drove the plot forward and gradually expanded on the relationships between characters without the paywall. From a reader standpoint, it feels like they had too much and not enough story for a second book, if that makes sense. This makes B2 feel almost stagnant. In fact, it feels like there is a ratio of filler episodes with a plot-heavy episode every few chapters which is kind of frustrating?? I do want to emphasize that I am grateful for Blades coming back and I don't wanna seem like someone who is complaining for no reason a new book is better than nothing in this case but I wanted to bring it up because it's clearly affecting the LI routes. They weren't given enough time to emotionally process what happened, nor did they address how that negatively impacted them, they just ignore it.
Basically what I'm saying is it would have been different if Mal was apathetic and it was addressed in the story in a way that doesn't feel like a casual side effect. Personally, if I was him, I would be too worried to have MC out of my sight lol.
Idk if that was phrased well but yea <3 I'll make a post about my final thoughts on Blades II so consider this post a preview to that.
