No worries!

There aren't really holidays specific to Wayfarers. They may celebrate the founding of the Order, but this had fallen out of style by the time Sero became grandmaster.

I was wondering if in the game are there any special days that Wayfarers celebrate in the game? That would be really interesting! Also if the magiani Aeda doesn't have wings, doesn't their crest expose the MC is magiani in the Palace? (SORRY IF I DON'T TYPE IT CORRECTLY LOL)

Being half-aeda doesn't necessarily mean that you're magiani. There can be half-aeda who have magic; this just isn't the case for the Wayfarer and the Aosian interpreter.

Taking this moment to send an appreciation post! I love your story and mechanics so much! I have read many IFs these past few years, with a lot of choice variations, dice system, skill check, you name it! But not a lot of IFs actively encourage players to fail consistently in order to access different routes. I normally hate failing stat checks, as they do sometimes ruin the gameplay experience. But you managed to bring a whole new experience that comes with failing while making it enjoyable. So thank you! I look forward to future updates ><

I know a lot of players do struggle with failing stat checks (it's one of the most common criticisms in my itch.io reviews), but I'm really happy to hear when people take a shot at it and aren't immediately discouraged. Success and failure are two sides of the same coin in this game; it's about consequence and outcome and seeing how the story and characters develop from that, not winning and losing.

I'm a big fan of Wayfarer, it occupies a lot of space in my mind because of the world building, the stakes and the characters. I even have a folder with screenshots of the game I occasionally reread when I don't have the time to play. It's like a wonderful book I don't tire of. So saying I admire you and your work is an understatement but I'm also very scared of you... LOL

For context, I have made multiple characters and one of them is very much the antithesis of Aeran while also being each other's missing pieces. They're very much Skyfall by Adele coded to sum it up. Patreon demo spoiler ahead, they plan on getting a little farm together and leaving the Wayfarer life behind too so because Aeran's fate is unclear, I'M VERY SCARED FOR AERAN, MYSELF AND MY WAYFARER AHAH.

I don't think my Wayfarer has ever considered a life where Aeran dies before him since he is a human (big fan of the line from Hera about outliving her lover "Perhaps someday you will know what I mean" for that reason, the details to your story are so gooood), so if he does outlive Aeran, I have no idea how he'll survive it realistically. It's going to be a 2-for-1 deal type of death. If Aeran dies, it's over for my wayfarer. Together, they're doomed by the narrative. So on one hand I'm very excited for the future of this game but I'm very worried. Ultimately, I think it's a statement to how impactful your writing is because I have never felt more concerned than I currently do for a fictional character... You deserve a standing ovation.

I'm curious how having multiple spheres of magic works. I think it's mentioned in the game that having multiple spheres can allow the individual to harness magic in new ways. But I'm also wondering if it's possible to make certain spheres dormant or inactive while you focus on only one sphere? Or are they all essentially active all the time?

Hello hello!

I do keep the pinned post updated with current information; you can always check the update date at the bottom of the post. Since we're in a bit of a limbo period, there's not a lot going on and there aren't really any notable updates.

I've stopped doing monthly dev logs on this blog for now, but I will be bringing them back once there's more to report outside of the finnicky little bits of alpha development. I do bi-weekly progress reports on my Patreon. And I am always happy to answer asks that come my way!

This is where things are right now:

the alpha build is part way through Episode 3. Last year's update is available to play through my Patreon.

the next alpha update is currently being playtested. It should be released to patrons on Friday (provided I get all the bugs fixed!)

a patch should be coming soon to the public build to do some upkeep and fix some bugs

there's still a lot to do to get Episode 3 finished. The goal is the end of June, but that's a very optimistic estimate and may change.

I released a road map for 2024 in January. These are rough estimates and are very much subject to change.

The ideal is to finish Episode 3's alpha in the summer, get Episode 4 done by the winter and release Episode 3 publicly in December.

So still going strong! 💪 Slow, but strong. 💖

Hi! Not sure if this has been asked before but are you able to get together with an RO again once you broke off with them (e.g. Aeron) or are you locked out of their romantic path forever?

If you break it off, that's it. It's done. While I am trying to keep romance as flexible as possible, having multiple conditions for a back and forth situation is a little too difficult coding + writing wise.

Keep in mind that there is still a lot of room to have falling outs while still maintaining a romance. Breaking off a romance is flagged with a broken heart icon, like in the example below, so you shouldn't stumble into it by accident. It's always a choice.

Apologies if this has been asked before (or if it happens to somehow be plot-relevant you're more than welcome to skip this question!) but do Initiates who got in as adults still get assigned a Master to teach them like the Initiates who got in the Order as children/teenagers do? thank you!

No worries at all!

New recruits are always assigned a master to instruct them. For children and teenagers, their mentor often acts as a general teacher and parental figure--it's not just combat training and anti-magic abilities, but also literacy, field medicine, survivalist skills, and a wide range of other subjects. This is important: mentors are not adoptive parents, even for Wayfarers who continue the tradition of taking their mentor's surname as their own.

It's rare for adults to be recruited into the Order, but it has happened on occasion. In these cases they also have a master, but it's not uncommon for them to have a say in who teaches them. Adult Wayfarers tend to reach initiation and are cleared for active duty far faster than youths, depending on their background and general knowledge.

Most Wayfarers who join the Order as adults purposefully seek it out and already have at least some combat training (like Brissa Varyn). There are plenty of adult magiani across the world who have no desire to become Wayfarers and refuse to have anything to do with the Order.

Aeran is begrudgingly accepting his fate and is very, very embarrassed. Probably turning some shade of tomato and can't wait to get out of here (he secretly likes it shhhhhh).

Mel graciously accepts his fate and makes some sweeping, grand gesture because he is oh so very honoured to have been booped so many times.
