Your husband waits as you gather your thoughts. It’s complicated, it’s embarrassing. You know it’s silly, and vain, and yet you can’t help yourself. And you aren’t quite sure how to verbalize it all.

Astarion’s mouth falls open in surprise and then he furrows his brows and quickly wraps his arms around your shoulders, not knowing what to say or do apart from physically enveloping you in his love.

You continue on, speaking into his neck, sniffling as a few more tears run down your cheeks, “After Gale, I quickly returned to my previous weight. I hadn’t had any stretch marks. He’s a goofy lil guy and you don’t deny it in the fic, but I appreciate how you allow the writing to actually acknowledge his (conflicted) feelings. He’s not just a one-note comedic relief, he feels like an actual character.

Not to imply he doesn’t have any internal life in the actual show, but based on the admittedly very few episodes I have watched and what I’ve heard from fans, the way he’s portrayed makes me incredibly uncomfortable. That’s why I’m more drawn to fics like yours :)

Also, if Donnie wasn’t dying and they’re not in danger (i.e., in Foot HQ), I 100% bet these two would have a blast just hanging out. They’re adorable here.

I agree, Mikey is a goofy little dude, but he’s also a person with feelings. It’s definitely easy to forget that when writing him, but I think because he’s such a silly guy, when he says something with a lot of weight, it means something.

I think the show actually covers his true emotions more than some fans would like to blow out of proportion, so I’d highly recommend watching the entirety of the show, I feel that the show’s ability to portray it’s characters gets better over the course of it’s episodes(as is pretty common with tv-shows), but also it’s just a fun show to watch.

Regardless though, I’m flattered to hear you think I do a good job writing the characters as people :] Also yes! Leo and Mikey are such an underrated team! I love writing them on missions together.

And very glad to hear you like the pages. I’m still working out all the settings and stuff to make it look the same as before, but I was thankfully able to get it pretty close �� Definitely enjoying using CSP a lot, and the fact that it uses iCloud is such a relief too.

January 2024 Review Roundup

hello everypony‼️ something i want to do through 2024 is a mini review series where i recap some of the media i watched/played/read at the end of every month. this was inspired by tumblr user ponett’s 2023 media wrap-up, it's a great collection of quick reviews so go check it out!

i’m doing this partially as writing/analysis practice, but mostly because my memory is really bad and i want to keep track of what i've seen this year. with that said, my thoughts on everything i finished in january 2024 is under the cut :]

Portal 1 + 2

yyyup i beat Portal and it only took me (checks watch) 13 years

the first time i played Portal 2 was at a friend’s house when i was in middle school, and i had a fuckin blast. but after all that time... it still holds up! i don’t think anything i have to say about Portal will be particularly new since people have been praising this series since it came out. the writing, the level design, even the controls feel tight and engaging the whole way through. i played on switch and expected a bit of jank, but i was pleasantly surprised at how smooth it felt to play. the only part that dragged for me were the levels through the old aperture labs, but i think i would like them a lot more on a second replay. Portal 2 is fantastic and one of my new favorite games, the artistry behind it is truly incredible and i’m really glad i finally finished it. while i was playing Portal 2, i described Glados and Wheatly to a friend and said “they’re like if a ceiling fan could be passive aggressive and if Fozzie Bear was an evil golf ball”

I Think You Should Leave

finally. i can truly understand and appreciate Subspace Dubbed Over

i think one of my favorite things about I Think You Should Leave is how it utilizes horror. beyond sitting slack-jawed in disbelief at the crazy events unfolding before my eyes, a number of the sketches dipped into bits that genuinely kinda scared me. like the one sketch that circulates on here where the guy (pig?) in a mask crawls through a dog door, which is. genuinely terrifying. but so many of the other sketches have slow, nerve-racking pacing leading to crazy shit that would be perfect in a horror film were the context different. idk i like dissecting how horror and comedy are essentially the same thing and I Think You Should Leave was very good at enabling that <3 favorite sketches are probably “then let my wife eat the damn receipt” and “55 BURGERS 55 HOTDOGS 100 FRIES 100 TATER TOTS”

Sonic Prime Season 3

man. ohhhh man. i didn’t go into this with high expectations and i still feel let down. Sonic Prime Season 3 was definitely my least favorite “season” of the batch - abysmal pacing, very few character moments i actually enjoyed, and the things i praised about the show felt very underutilized through these episodes. Nine is the shining star of Sonic Prime and i was looking forward to seeing his more villainous side, but his character took such a sharp turn into pure evil and it felt like he spent the entire season repeating the same three lines. and as much as i praise Shadow’s writing in Prime, it doesn’t really matter when he spends half of the season trapped in a hole that he just… runs out of later.

lastly, i cannot stop thinking about how bad the pacing of this season is. three episodes for a repetitive final battle feels like such a waste of time when you see just how much they rush the emotional resolutions in the last episode. however, there is one thing i truly love about Sonic Prime Season 3 - i love the Sails and Mangey fakeout death. it's so fucking funny. like you really expect me to believe that two cartoon animals in this Y-7 rated show EXPLODED?????? absolute comedy gold.

overall, i just… don’t really know what to think of Sonic Prime. anything i enjoyed in the show was often fleeting, and much of it felt like its only purpose was to waste my time. also Rouge i can’t believe they did you so dirty oh my god

Ghost Trick

i was so proud that i figured out the secret behind Sissel’s memory loss like halfway through the game. however i also kept getting caught during the prison escape sequence like an idiot

Ghost Trick is in a similar situation as Portal where 1. it’s incredible and one of my new favorite games, and 2. there’s nothing i can really say about it that hasn’t already been said or just. shouldn’t be said. Ghost Trick is a fantastic mystery game, and because of that i think it’s best to go into its story as blind as possible. the narrative unfolds in such fascinating ways - even though the actual object manipulation gameplay isn’t directly about solving the mystery (like in Ace Attorney or other mystery games), it still ties wonderfully into the story in some incredibly unique ways.

i also really love the artstyle of Ghost Trick - i love 2D character artwork with that sharp lineweight, it reminded me a lot of Sonic Battle (another game with an artstyle i love). i was also really impressed by the 3D character models and animation - despite the limitations of the camera, you get a wonderful sense of everyone’s personality from the limited body language expressed in the overworld (even though the models lack much facial expression which. i guess they don’t really need? idk that was the only thing that threw me off). anyways yeah everyone should play Ghost Trick so Ghost Trick fans can be freed from their curse and talk about it without having to tag like 10 different spoiler tags. and for Missile

Scott Pilgrim Takes Off

ok bear with me. i went into Scott Pilgrim Takes Off without reading the comics first. and i fuckin loved it

my understanding of Scott Pilgrim before SPTO was mostly from the movie (I KNOW I’M SORRY), but even with my base understanding of the series i really enjoyed this show for what it was. i found myself appreciating the time they dedicated to further develop every single character in the show - especially Ramona. she’s fantastic as the lead, i really loved watching her reconcile with her exes and seeing all of them grow instead of exploding into coins. my favorite episode was probably the one with her and Roxie - not only did i adore the movie-jumping set pieces, but you really understand the weight of Ramona’s mistakes in their past relationship and how much it hurt Roxie. despite the big climactic fight, the flashbacks are quiet, subtle, heartbreaking. Ramona’s apology is genuine, and it feels so wonderful to watch her confront her past throughout the show. also i think it’s really funny that for all these characters to become the best versions of themselves, they had to kill off Scott for most of the story

and holy shit the artstyle and animation. oh my god. i love watching something that makes me immediately go “i need to see the storyboards for this RIGHT NOW.” SPTO is such a visual delight to watch, it elevates the artstyle of the comics while also keeping what makes that style so appealing - i love the line weight on the characters, i love how much forward energy the animation has, i love the fucking. virtual boy section. as soon as i found out Science Saru was also behind Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken, everything made immediate sense. i was destined to love this show.

another worry i had going into SPTO (besides the fact that i hadn’t read the comics lol) is that the original cast from the movie was returning. i think the movie cast is fine, but i wasn’t sure how some of them would fare with voice acting for animation. however, i thought they all did a good job - i think the whole cast loves these characters and would be able to fit into them fairly easily no matter what form their performance takes, and they definitely had a good voice director in the studio with them. the only thing that felt off about the voice performances to me was that sometimes it sounded like some of their mics kept peaking?? idk some of these episodes i watched high as balls and i felt like i could hear and see every single sound and frame of the show. so that might have just been me.

god i did not. expect to have this much to say about Scott Pilgrim. i really loved this show and i’m currently reading the comics to fully catch up on the general Scott Pilgrim experience - i think reading the comics AFTER Takes Off is making me appreciate even more of the character work that went into the show. like they do so much with Mathew Patel in SPTO, a character that was. not originally around for a long time from what i’ve gathered? also i like the funny little robot. oh my GOD i cannot talk about this show anymore whatever it’s good get me out of here

Sword AF Season 1

i put on the Smosh cast’s D&D series to play in the background while i was drawing. i did not expect to think much of it. instead, i had one of the most enjoyable D&D podcast experiences since i listened to The Adventure Zone Balance???

i haven’t really enjoyed other D&D podcasts since i dropped off of The Adventure Zone, and i wasn’t expecting much from Sword AF of all things. then i saw that Shayne was playing as a druid warforged made of plants and his name was fucking Fernie and i sat my ass down and LISTENED. while i think Sword AF is currently lacking in its world and larger story, those things just. aren’t really what Sword AF is really trying to provide at the moment. it’s main focus is comedy, and the players are genuinely such a delight to watch play together and build off of each other. they mostly focus on bits and goofs for the sake of she show's comedic tone, but i still found it thoroughly enjoyable because every player embodies and performs their characters really well. idk Sword AF was an unexpected hit for me this month, i thought it was fun. and i love Fernie so much

Plastic Death - Glass Beach

so originally i wasn’t going to include music reviews in these roundups at all, but then i was entirely surprised by a new Glass Beach album and oh my god. holy shit. oh my fucking god jesus christ. holy shit. its preddy good

Plastic Death gets the low point of the album out of the way immediately. it starts with the “phone call/conversation audio” trope that i don’t particularly enjoy - HOWEVER despite me disliking this opening, 1. it sets up the overall themes of Plastic Death very quickly, and 2. the rest of the album blows this 40 second opening completely out of the water. from there, the album grows into something beautiful and uncontained, and i just. i really like it

Plastic Death captures the beauty of the temporary, asks what it means to be created for a cause you can’t fulfill, questions if you can reclaim yourself from cycles and constraints designed to destroy you. and is also about being transgender. the lyrics are abstract in a way that requires a conversation with the listener, many of the vocals obscured and smooth like waves - this album is definitely one that needs to be listened to a few times. i wasn’t sure how i felt about the vocal style at first before realizing the vocals were the main reason i was relistening to this album, allowing myself to find even more that i loved about it. the instrumentation is also incredible, i love the use of marimba in a number of songs - distant, eerie, almost skeletal. and the fucking. 8-bit section?? which kinda rules???? and that’s the only point in the album it ever shows up??????? incredible. a fleeting, somewhat silly moment that i love every time.

this album left my heart aching, in part from my connection to it and in part from the pure love and joy emanating from this music. i can feel just how much fun this music was to perform and create, a cohesion of time and sound that just clicked for me. Plastic Death made me miss playing music, which is something i haven’t felt in years. all from an album that starts with a conversation about CrankGameplay’s dead youtube channel. good lord

i like this album a normal amount. go listen to it a few times. my favorite tracks are cul-de-sac and commatose

Wish

i watched Wish with a couple of friends and knew i probably wasn't going to like it. with that in mind, i gave myself a challenge: i wanted to find one thing about this movie that i genuinely really loved. it could be anything, and loving it for ironic reasons was allowed.

here's the complete list of things i loved about Disney's Wish (2023):

i love the one shot where King Magnifico stirs an evil caldron evily. i thought it was hilarious. what was he cooking

i loved that the end credits included a reference to Dinosaur 2001 at all, and i loved that they paid homage to Big Hero 6 by showing the forgettable villain of that movie instead of their Baymax cashcow for some reason. my friends and i saw him show up in the credits and were like "who's the trenchcoat guy??"

you may notice that this list is very short and 50% of it is about the movie's credits. so yeah this movie is not very good

Wish is an empty husk of a movie. everything about it feels so, so hollow - lifeless town squares, uninspired character designs (to quote a friend: "i have all of these characters' hairstyles in The Sims"), characters whose existence is only justified to fill empty space or an overused archetype, and an "evil" villain who lacks charisma and spine in a futile effort to remind the audience of previous disney villains with actual character. even the artstyle lacks any sort of sauce, the watercolor effect they were trying to go for only makes the backgrounds and character textures run together, and the dull lighting makes things look even more faded. it's like disney was scared of making a movie that made its audience feel... anything. all to celebrate 100 years of Disney slop, baby!!!

Or when the movie tensed up and hide your face into his side. He honestly likes to feel like your sage spot for when your scared. So he just hugs you or bring a you close and you cuddle into him and watch the rest of the film

You know the bad horror movies that turn into comedies cuz they’re bad?? Yea you love those. So you spend time watching, critiquing and laughing about the movie and it’s a blast! Talk about how the choice was dumb, or how the cgi was bad or even if the actors did a half assed job.

After movies are over he walks with you hand in hand and you both give a rating to the movie and pick it apart

Romance: he loves to observe you during the romance films :) sometimes there are certain gestures that you rlly focus on, or something that made you cry or feel emotional he’ll pay close attention. Most likely he’ll repeat the action to get the same reaction out of you only it was real :). Or if the movie is a lil sad and he sees you cry and leans over and says

“I love you” just in a way, in his mind, to remind and reassure you that he really does love and appreciate you to no end

I’m anon that wanted to share my Hannah opinion. Before I do, I wanna clarify I am a woman.

I think what she’s doing is all for her images. It’s known she’s doing her best to advocate for female presenting and more, which btw I find that amazing, and as a woman I believe she did a great job (unlike other ccs that claimed the same but did not really help). However I think here starts the issue. She’s so obsessed with this idea to be our advocate that she got extreme and would cut off people just to keep clean her images. It is very clean that this is what’s she doing: Dream team are now a problem for her image, so she cut them off, while no one cares about Punz (which is way worse) so she keep follows him. It’s very hypocrite and show that most likely she’s not even genuine. And the Sylvee thing proved that she’s not communicating and just follow what Twitter wants and be blindsided. I saw some people claiming that “oh it’s just her emotions” but idk, her actions seem kind of telling me something different.

I also believe those people decide to support other female ccs with no hesitation. Which btw, that’s not bad, I think is sweet and amazing! But it creates even a toxic culture of “women are always the victims, they’re always innocent and pure, whatever they say must be the truth” and this weird culture of “yeah women do not need to show proofs and you need to believe them 100%”. I believe this is pretty harmful, especially as a victim of a woman abuser that even lied to be a victim (I’m not saying this is case, but just this weird culture can protect women abusers and more).

I think this is even a problem with Tina and Sylvee. They’re trying to save their faces showing that “they care about the female ccs” while their actions and past actions are just hypocritical or very fake. Which again is more harmful for us.

I genuinely felt they were a good representation for us women, but now I feel completely disgusted by their actions and their immaturity.

This is why i was all for Chris’ solo podcast with Zach Sang 🤷🏻‍♀️ I felt like he finally had a bit of spotlight and everybody was able to finally see the best parts of him that i’ve always seen Lmfaooo. He’s practically all over you all of the time. Even when you’re doing something that’s like, super boring to him, he'll still stick around and help you as much as he can. Argyle

Physical affection and gift giving. Even with friends, Argyle does both of these things to express his fondness for anyone he likes, platonic or romantic. In a romantic sense, that affection is almost always in the form of constant cuddling, kisses, and just being close to you. He's definitely one to greet you with a quick peck, and even gets excited when you lean in first for a kiss. With gift giving, it's normally in the form of weed, honestly. If you don't smoke though, he'd definitely be one to get you random trinkets he comes across and "picked up because it reminded me of you, and then i never put it down, so here you go!"

Nancy Wheeler

Quality time and acts of service. Oh, this poor girl is always so busy, it seems. It's one of the less desirable traits in someone who has their life together and is always planning for the future. Not only does Nancy spend what little free time she has with you, but she’d almost make time for you. She wants to, so she does. She enjoys just sitting in a comfortable silence with you most of the time. Working on school work, reading, drawing, any of it can be done together. And when the work load gets to be too much on your end, Nancy is always there to step in and help take some of the strain off of you.

Robin Buckley

Physical affection and words of affirmation. She’s naturally a more touchy person, even just with friends. Combine this element with a partner and a nervous little lesbian and you get some of the sweetest moments between you two. While you can’t be outwardly a couple in the public, Robin often wants to make up for lost affection when the both of you are finally alone and can love on one another without fearing anything. While she will stutter and stumble over her words, they’re always 100% genuine when she tells you how much she loves you

Eddie Munson

Quality time and physical affection. If you share the same nerdy interests, spending time together comes as naturally as breathing to the both of you. You could spend hours upon hours talking about all the nerd shit between the both of you. He might even ask for you opinions on his campaign he’s planning. All of this wouldn’t come alone though, the entire time, he’d be completely all over you. It’s the little things Eddie does that tends to drive you crazy, like resting his hand on your thigh or putting an arm around you when you’re sitting next to him.

Billy Hargrove

Physical affection. Because of his childhood, Billy doesn’t entirely know how a healthy relationship is supposed to look or feel. It’s not his fault, it’s simply what happened. His way of feeling and giving love is the same, physical affection. He’d spend a lot of time showing off his partner to whoever was looking in his direction. It doesn’t stop when you’re alone either. Honestly? He’s just barely getting started with you when you two are finally alone. Lots of very bold moves coming from his half, but if you ask him to slow down he’ll listen.

Crushing Blushing

A/N: see? I promised I’d update this more quickly than the first part :D but to be fair it’s pretty easy to beat that lol

Summary: You’ve somehow found yourself agreeing to let the questionable Vigilante walk you back to your motel room. You’re unsure of him and yet find yourself not as uncertain as you feel you should be.

Warnings: 18+ but also not really (I keep adding this because I plan on adding adult themes later), strong language.

It’s tense, the walk that is. It is so tense, at least for you it is, you’re not sure he’s feeling anything at the moment. He seems perfectly comfortable; you quickly glance at him and yup he looks perfectly fine, lost in his own world, you think. It’s not like you can see his face but his body language reads as carefree – how annoying.

Annoying because of how tense you feel and because it feels like you’ve been walking for an hour but looking at your phone you can see it’s only been 5 minutes since you first bumped into him.

Suddenly he exclaims, “Ah! Where do you live?”

You jump internally at his voice; it feels like he yells with how quiet it is in the street. You find yourself faintly wondering if it’s so dead because he’s wandering these streets right now.

You know he’s walking you back to your motel to keep you safe, but you still find yourself wondering if it’s such a great idea to tell him where you’re staying. You’re silent for a second, signalling to him your unease.

“I’m really not planning on killing you, not now or any time in the future.” He’s trying to calm your nerves but you’re not entirely sure that his statement helps.

You find yourself telling him anyways, “I’m staying at the motel near the cemetery, do you know it?”

He gives an amused chuckle, “Yeah I know it, I have a friend there, I also put a few people there myself.” He sounds like he’s trying to suppress a gut laugh. You find it morbid and off putting and you also find yourself trying not to smile at his inappropriate joke. You know he’s probably being 100% honest and for some reason you find that hilariously grim.

“That doesn’t help me feel any better about you or your character, you know?”

He’s still trying not to laugh, and his voice comes out giddy, like he’s talking through a smile.

“I know, I know!” He’s still chuckling to himself and waves a hand at you, “I didn’t mean to find it so funny!”

He starts taking some deep breaths trying to calm himself down, and then he stops laughing all at once “I was joking, I don’t know if any of the people I killed ended up at that cemetery.”

Okay that statement gets you, and you have to turn your face away from him so he can’t see your smile. “Not funny,” you deadpan but your shoulders shake, giving yourself away.

“I was just trying to offer some humour, you know? Brighten the mood a bit, you look really tense.”

He doesn’t seem like the type of person to be observant about others, but he clocks you and the way you’re feeling pretty easily.

Strangely, you feel your body relax a bit, you easily fall into step with him and can breathe a little easier. You think you relax because you can tell he cares enough to try and assuage your fears about being killed by him at any moment. It’s not an entirely successful attempt on its own but you’re starting to gather that he’s not going to kill you now or in the future.

“I appreciate your attempts but that was pretty grim, considering you have actually killed people before.”

He stops suddenly, “It’s not like they don’t deserve it.” He relays his feelings flippantly.

You also stop where you are, both of you now facing each other, standing in the middle of the pavement.

“Maybe, maybe not, I don’t really feel like we have the same definitions of who deserves to die.” You pause for a second, his body language has deflated a bit.

“Listen, I’m sure some of the people you kill might fit my definition of deserved death but I’m also sure some of them don’t.” You don’t know where your bravery came from but you’re happy you were able to articulate your feelings properly.

“You’re right but at the end of the day I’m the one out here doing the things other people in this town can’t or won’t.”

You suppose he’s right in a way, but that train of thought is exactly why he’s a wanted criminal, you have mixed feelings on him. If you jaywalked right now, would he shoot you? You decide you’re going to ask.

“Sooooo… If I jaywalked right now, would you kill me?”

“No!” He stands there for a second, then continues, “That’s different.”

“How’s it any different?”

He stands stoic, like he’s afraid he’s given something away or will give something away while talking to you. “I’m not here to debate my morals and ethics with you, I already said I wouldn’t ever kill you.” He shrugs and keeps walking forward.

You have to take a couple big steps to catch up to him, but he continues talking, “I just want to make sure you get back to your motel, it’s not safe out here.”

You look around the street, it’s completely empty, not a single soul lingers out here. Well maybe some of the people he’s killed linger around him, you smirk at your internal thought.

“Keeping me safe from all those jaywalkers I bet, huh?” You try your hand at a joke and go to nudge him. You think you hear him snicker under his mask, but you can’t be sure.

He turns to you and doesn’t say anything at first, it kind of feels like you’re about to be scolded but instead he faces forward and doesn’t say anything. For some reason that feels worse than having him scold you. Despite the topic of conversation his tone had been pretty chipper and now you feel like by giving your – completely valid opinion – you’ve upset him. You’re not really sure how to feel now, should you say something to him? You have a big personal flaw of always feeling the need to fill the silence, you can’t ever just let things be. It used to annoy the shit out of your brother.

Are you upset with me? That feels needy, don’t ask that. He’s a literal cold-blooded killer, this man is not like the vigilantes back in Gotham, at least not the majority of them. You don’t want him to think you care if he’s upset with you. Turn that frown upside down, that’s funny, you shouldn’t say that, your last crack at a joke didn’t seem to translate well. Damn your people pleasing nature!

It seems there is a God though because you can see the street your motel is on; you’ll be able to finally eat something and sit in silence processing the evening. You really need to discuss the events of the night with yourself.

Even so, you find yourself opening your big fat mouth, “turn that frown upside down!”

What the fuck!!!

You hang your head; you hadn’t planned anything more appropriate and that’s the first thing that came out. You feel defeated, you really need to work on your people pleasing nature. For God’s sake! The man is a literal murderer, and you feel the need to please him.

“I’m not frowning.” He says, same tone he’s had the whole walk.

Your shoulders relax at the sound of his voice, “well, I can’t really tell, you suddenly had bad vibes, so I assumed.”

He scoffs, “bad vibes.”

You shrug your shoulders dramatically with your hands up. “How am I supposed to know? You were pretty short with me before and then didn’t say anything afterwards. Bad vibes.” You nod your head once in finality.

He has an amused air about him, “You really just can’t sit in silence, huh?”

You don’t like how easily he reads you, it’s like he’s watching your internal monologue on a screen behind his visor.

“Stop it.”

“Stop what?”

“Stop reading how I feel so easily, it’s not fair when–”

“When you only have vibes to go off?”

“Yes, exactly!” you pause, “hey! get out of my head!”

He laughs at you, “You’re not exactly difficult to read.”

“Yeah, because I don’t have a giant sock on my head!”

He stops and points an accusatory finger at you, “hey, not nice! And it’s NOT a sock, it’s a balaclava with a visor, much cooler, thank you. I don’t even think there is a sock big enough to fit my head into.” He’s exasperated by your accusation.

“You’re right,” you nod your head in agreement, and he seems pleased by this until – “you do have a big head!” You raise your voice mockingly at him and then bolt off.

He shouts after you.

You don’t know what possessed you into having a back and forth with him that easily, but it was fun, you’re having fun, and you can’t really find it in yourself to care about what the sensible or responsible thing to do is. You can’t really care because you’re having fun, and you can’t properly remember a time after your brothers passing where you felt this alive.

You can hear his footsteps catching up with you quickly, you feel yourself beginning to rush, desperately hoping you can beat him, but he easily runs in front of you and stops. You almost tackle him to the ground, but he catches your shoulders with his hands, he doesn’t stop the collision, but he stops the force at which it happens.

He looks down at you, a smile in his voice as he says, “what the hell? Are you a literal child? You seemed so grown up not 5 minutes ago!”

And you are giggling like a child, you can’t help it. It was fun to tease him and then run away like one.

He shakes his head at you, “Come on, we’re almost back at your motel.” He turns around with his hands still on your shoulders, taking you with him 180º. He then spins you another 180º until you’re both facing the same direction, he leans down to whisper near your ear, “C’mon, start walking.”

You feel an involuntary shiver run down your spine and start walking forwards, with him tailing not far behind. This new formation he’s created continues for a few minutes and it starts making you feel perturbed, like you’re a criminal being escorted somewhere.

You bend your neck backwards until you can see him, “I prefer walking next to you, having you walk behind me feels weird…”

His head drops to his shoulder, “eyes forward!”

Your head snaps forward and you laugh, this all feels so unreal and completely silly. This is not real life; you must still be asleep on the shitty motel bed.

He walks up beside you and you both fall back into a relaxed rhythm together, a more comfortable silence forming between you.

You walk in silence the rest of the way to your motel room door.

Looking up at him you say, “thank you, for walking me back to my motel room.”

“You’re welcome, try not to go on late night wanders through this neighbourhood, it might’ve seemed quiet but that’s only ‘cause I was in the area tonight.”

“I’ll try not to, but I was hungry,” you literally lived in Gotham, you feel like no city street is worse than that.

“Hmm, drive next time then.” He offers as an alternative.

“This is really concerning you, huh?”

“Uhm, yah! This neighbourhood literally sucks balls, you literally couldn’t have picked a worse motel to stay at even if you tried.”

“okay, noted, I’ll try to avoid going out at night.”

“Cool, good, good.” He nods his head, seemingly satisfied at your response to his concern, “Alright, I’m gonna go, I have vigilante shit to do. Catch you around but I mean preferably not, right?”

You smile, “right, I get it Mr Vigilante, I will behave.”

He nods once more and then waves at you before running back in the direction you both just walked from, you can’t believe how endearing you find this literal murderer.

Turning around you unlock your motel room door, only to find it unlocked already, what the hell? You could’ve sworn you locked it before leaving. You cautiously peak your head in through the door, scanning the room, you can’t see anyone.

You leave the door open as you slowly walk into the room, the only places you can’t see from where you’re standing are the bathroom and under the bed. Slowly, you put your bag of food on a small table and step vigilantly around the room, inching closer to the bathroom. You stay stuck to the wall as you fling the door open, your eyes assess the small room and find it empty. You then warily lower yourself onto the floor and check under the bed, no one there either. This is really weird; you walk back over to the door closing and locking it.

Unease settles in your bones again; you don’t feel comfortable here anymore. Vigilante’s warning plays over in your mind and you find yourself wondering if you picked the right place to stay. You could’ve just left the door open yourself, but you highly doubt you would’ve done that. That kind of neglect isn’t something you usually find yourself displaying. You’re an alert person, you always lock doors, it’s like second nature to you.

No one is in the room, but you and you’ve definitely locked the door now, but just in case you go over and double check. Yep, definitely locked, you unclench a bit at the confirmation.

Taking your bag of food to the bed, you sit down and get to finally eat something for the first time since this morning and your food tastes like absolute heaven.

As you munch on your food you consider your life and the choices you have made that led you to this point. This evening has been the most interesting night of your adult life, ever since your brother passed you feel like you have been living on autopilot. Only ever going through the motions, going from one step to the next but never actually considering what you want in that moment, only ever focussed on future goals.

Leave Evergreen, move to Gotham, study to become a vet, graduate, get a job… and then what? You never did anything adventurous, or spur of the moment, your plans are calculated, and you only ever made moves towards the future and now that the future is here, you’re realising, you didn’t let yourself live in between those moments.

The most exciting thing you had done recently before tonight’s coincidental run in with Vigilante, was coming back to Evergreen in the first place. Which ironically, you only came back here because you heard of Vigilante’s presence while living in Gotham. You feel poorly about it, but you didn’t feel a big enough of a push to come back here and now that you have, you’re having fun.

It's so odd that your realisation is coming from having a 15-minute walk with the local murderer. You feel so absurd, he goes against a lot of your personal morals and somehow you found him appealing and that is both upsetting and thrilling to you.

After you finish dinner, you decide to have a shower. The walk outside and staying in your clothes for hours has you feeling a little less than fresh.

As you wash the events of today from your body, you find yourself feeling a little anxious about your motel room door being open when you got back from your walk. The fact that no one was physically in the room makes you feel better but also makes you feel sick. Tomorrow you’ll start looking at other motels in the area because after this and Vigilante’s warning earlier, you don’t feel safe here anymore.

Bzzzz bzzzzz bzzzz bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

The pillow your head was resting on is vibrating, vibrating because your phone is under it and the alarm is going off.

Ugh, you don’t even have any important plans today.

You get up anyways, you want to be out of this room and into a different motel before the end of the day. You feel like you’re not really well informed about this town and what areas are best to stay at anymore, if you had forethought last night you would’ve asked Vigilante since he seems to be knowledgeable on this certain topic.

The next best person to ask and the only other person you know and are still in contact with in Evergreen is Adrian. Which is just a bonus for you, you’re pretty pleased with yourself that you’ve found another reason to get in contact with him. Pleased because you want to see him and because you need to tell him you might not get to catch a drink together like you planned, since you won’t be at your motel room and you both somehow forgot to exchange information again when you caught up yesterday. You’re both such doofuses, forgetting something like that because you were having too much fun reminiscing.

A quick google search will pull up all the local motels but that’s what you did the first time to find a motel closest to the cemetery and well, you know how that ended.

You begin fighting with yourself internally, on whether you should go to Fennel Fields to try and find Adrian or not. Maybe you should just stay here and wait for him to come back.

Mmmmm, definitely not, you can’t stay in this room any longer. The anxiety is still lingering in your bones, and you are not going to keep paying to stay in a room that possibly got broken into and sets off your alarm bells.

That’s it, that settles it, you’ve decided. You’re going to go bug your dead brothers best friend from childhood while he’s working… if he is at work that is. Either way, it’ll get you out of this awful motel room. You have a completely valid reason for bugging him, plus he probably won’t mind.

You drive to Fennel Fields, it’s a really short drive from your motel but you feel like you shouldn’t walk.

When you cross over the threshold and into the restaurant you look around and try to spot the familiar bus boy, but you don’t get as lucky now as you did the first time you came here. He’s either not here or he’s out back.

You locate one of the closest employees and decide to ask them about Adrian and his whereabouts, though it’s doubtful that they’ll actually hand out any information about him. To them you’re some strange person asking for their co-workers personal information.

“Uhm hi! Hello! I was in here the other day, I’m friends with a co-worker of yours called Adrian Chase –”

“Oh yes, I remember you, he’s not scheduled for today.”

“Okay, thank you,” you go to walk away but quickly back track, “actually, I know this might be odd, but do you have his number by chance?”

“You don’t have it already?” He inquires.

“We just reconnected after a few years, so I don’t have it… no.” You feel so awkward, you also feel like some crazy stalker person.

He looks you over and considers you for a second before giving a short sigh, “Ah, I wouldn’t usually give out a co-workers information but considering how odd he is and how normal you seem, I’m sure it’s fine.”

He pulls out his phone and shows you his screen with Adrian’s number, you assume anyways. Adrian’s contact isn’t actually saved in his phone, it looks like he’s opened a work group chat to show you his number.

You thank him as you turn around and leave the restaurant, you don’t quite know how to feel about that interaction. You find yourself a bit disappointed in Adrian’s co-workers, you’re not sure they respect him. It hurts your feelings a little bit, you hope he’s not being treated poorly there. Though, he is a bit unusual you don’t feel like he deserves some of the disrespect he gets from people.

As you walk back to your car you get inside it and decide to call Adrian, it rings for a bit before he picks up.

“Uh… hello?” You can tell he’s confused even through the phone; he mustn’t get many calls.

“Hey A, it’s me…” you feel a bit stupid calling him out of the blue.

“Petal! Hello, how did you get my number?”

“I went to Fennel Fields to try and find you, but you weren’t there, so I asked your co-worker for your number – which by the way, very questionable behaviour on his part to actually give me your number.”

“I don’t mind, I’m glad he gave you my number, I kept forgetting to ask you for yours.” He brushes off your concern. “What did you need?” He gets a bit frantic then, “are you okay?!”

“I’m okay, I mean, I am safe but something odd happened last night.”

His voice get firm, it’s his turn to be concerned, “what happened?”

“Nothing bad happened! I went out to get some food last night –”

“That neighbourhood isn’t safe; you shouldn’t be walking outside by yourself at night.”

“I knowwww but I was hungry!” You frown a bit; you literally just went over this last night.

“Sorry, sorry, go ahead, tell me what happened.” He sounds a little amused at your frustration.

“When I got back to my motel, I went to unlock the door, but it was already unlocked but I could’ve sworn I had locked it before I left.”

“What? Was anyone in the room?”

“No, I was really careful when I checked, and the room was empty, but I felt really anxious for the rest of the night –”

“I’m coming over, now” and then he hangs up on you.

The nerve! You start up your car and make the short drive back to the motel where you wait for Adrian.

It doesn’t take him long to get to you, you’re not sure where he lives but you have a feeling, he hauled ass to get here in record time. When he pulls up, he finds you waiting outside your motel room.

“Are you okay?” He rushes up to you, grabbing you by the shoulders he gives you a visual check over.

“I’m okay Adrian, no one was in the room last night and the door is still locked now.”

“Mhm, I wanna check out the room for myself.”

He waits for you to unlock the door before he walks into the room with purpose. You follow him inside before you shut the door behind you and flick on the lights. You decide to stay near the door and let Adrian investigate on his own.

It feels like he’s scanning the room forever, when he pulls a vent off the wall and finds a small camera behind it. You feel like a cold bucket of water has been dropped on top of you. What the hell, you feel completely violated. On the opposite side of the room Adrian looks like he’s about to spontaneously combust.

“Is that what I think it is?”

He catches your eyes, and his anger settles a tad, “It is but it’s okay because I’m going to figure out who put it there and murder them.” You think he’s joking; you feel like he should be joking but he looks completely serious and downright murderous.

“Uhm, I actually wanted to ask you for advice on motels to stay at because well, this one clearly sucks.”

He looks incredulously at you “are you kidding? There is no way I’m letting you stay at any motel now.”

You’re a little lost for words, “so, where am I meant to stay then?”

“With me.” It’s said with such a sense of finality that you can’t find it in yourself to even try to argue with him on this.

“…Okay.”

“Good, it’s settled then.”

You aren’t sure staying with him is a great idea, but you know one thing, you sure as fuck aren’t staying here. Also who the fuck put a camera in your room?

Watched a banger Spideypool animatic and the more I think about it the more they just work for each other? In a lot of ways it’s Black Cat and Spider-Man but it’s works better imo.

Deadpool does many morally wrong actions similar to Black Cat but the difference between them is that Deadpool actually cares about Peter Parker, but he also cares about Spider-Man because he comes to learn that they’re one in the same. Black Cat on the other hand, as much as I love her she does not give two shits about photographer for the Daily Bugle, sweet dude Peter Parker, and I do appreciate fics and stories where she does but I can’t ever see her caring for that.

Also I think it’s majorly beneficial for Spider-Man to date another super person. Him and Kitty Pryde worked for the most part in the Ultimate Universe ( most of it was dragged down by needless drama to just get Peter and MJ back together so it was a bit rough ) but I think out of all the super human love interests Wade just works the best? He can’t really die, his healing factor prevents Peter from having to be really worried about him during battle and a key aspect of the team up comic I enjoyed was that Wade was entirely willing to stop killing for Spider-Man.

Deadpool when the hot spider guy gets mad at him for killing people so he just stops because he genuinely likes this guy and idk it’s sweet.

It’s often written off as a joke ship in a way, and I have a lot of problems with how they write Peter in the team-up comic personally- ( I HATE PARKER INDUSTRIES. ) but when you really think about it they actually work really well and are pretty healthy even outside the fun dynamic that initially draws you in.

I think because of the amount of love interests Peter has, I tend to have a different favorite ship based on his age group ( of course it depends on how the writers write the love interests too like sometimes Mary Jane sucks although she gets shit on way too much for it. )

I am an enjoyer of married MJ and Peter being happy like in Spiderverse but my favorite ship from the 25-30+ era for Spidey is definitely Spideypool, sorry MJ I do love women but Deadpool just wins her.

On the otherhand his early college era? Mary Jane 100%. In High School it’s more difficult because it really varies adaptation to adaptation- like in the OG comics Betty is a good first love interest despite poor 60s views of women- in the Ultimate comics Kitty Pryde is great- in Spectacular Spider-Man Liz is wonderful- in Marvel Adventures Chat is wonderful so I honestly can’t pick a favorite because it varies so much in this period in Peter’s life.

( Also Gwen is not included here just because she’s written the most inconsistent actually imo. She’s at her best in the Andrew Garfield movies but she’s bad in the OG comics imo. She’s a mixed bag in Ultimate Spider-Man and I much prefer her as not a love interest there. In Spectacular Spider-Man she’s fine but I don’t like how they forcefully break Liz and Peter up just to get them together I hate that trope. And I consider Spider-Gwen as not a Peter love interest sooo… )

hi! love your blog, i love getting to see all these cool cat colors i didnt even know were a thing LOL like i didn’t know there was such a thing as lilac or cinnamon but theyre so pretty.

ive been looking into getting a ragdoll in the future, the ones i have met have been the sweetest cats and they’re so pretty.

ive been doing research into possible health concerns they can have, and all im really seeing is the same things your typical random little guy could have when improperly cared for and things like that. kidney disease while on a bad diet, issues with hairballs when not brushed and groomed properly due to being long haired, etc. ive seen a few places say that they’re more prone to respiratory issues and heart disease, but the latter also seems to be something that breeders work to make sure their cats are safe from? at least in my research.

i guess im basically just wondering if you know anything else that can affect ragdolls specifically, or if there’s anything horribly unethical that’s totally swept under the rug or hidden about them! additional things to research and places to look would be appreciated, i never know where to research stuff like this reliably and you seem to know where to find some good info and stuff on cat breeds :)

Ragdolls are definitely cool cats and they’re a pretty health breed, one of the major things to be mindful of is that this assessment only applies to well-bred individuals from good breeders.

Common breeds mean a lot of breeders which, unfortunately, also means a lot of scammers and bad breeders.

And the Ragdoll is a very common breed so there are a lot of not so good breeders out there… and the temperament and health of these backyard bred cats is a gamble, one that can end in heartbreak.

Now with that warning out of the way the big thing to worry about with the breed is Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy. Fortunately the mutation responsible for this condition in the breed has been identified and can be tested for. Staying on top of heart health is an absolute must for a good breeder, this means regular echocardiogram’s as well as DNA testing.

The other big ones are Polycystic Kidney Disease and Progressive Retinal Atrophy, both of which can be tested for. These are common inherited disorders in the purebred population, you’ll have a hard time finding a breed which neither of these have been documented in.

Mucopolysaccharidosis VI is a storage disease that has been documented in the Ragdoll breed but it can be tested for and I’m not sure how common it is in current breeding populations.

A breeder shouldn’t cut corners when it comes to health testing, there are several commercially available tests which look for a wide variety of inherited disorders. Optimal Selection is becoming increasingly widely used, although personally I would feel most comfortable with testing submitted through somewhere like UC Davis.

But HCM is the big big one because heart disease is a silent killer. With the other conditions clinical symptoms will be apparent but a cat with HCM could appear normal and you wouldn’t know without testing. And remember - not all cardiac cases will have a heart murmur, either!

The other thing to keep in mind with Ragdolls is they seem to be more prone to developing Feline Infectious Peritonitis. This one is a little more complicated.

FIP occurs due to mutations in the feline coronavirus, which is a common viral infection in cats. Until recently FIP was considered nearly 100% fatal but thanks to Dr. Niels Pederson we now have a promising cure. One of our patients was actually one of the original study cats and has been doing well all this time, she’s amazing to work with - like a piece of living history!

One of the big problems with the treatment is the legality of it… for a long time it was only available through the black market and could easily run you thousands of dollars. Treatment is gradually becoming available through legal venues but it depends on where you live.

Anyways, the point is that we don’t know exactly why these mutations occur in some cats and not others but there’s strong evidence that there’s a genetic component - it’s common for related cats to develop FIP, we’ve seen this multiple times with littermates. We also know that it occurs at a higher incidence in some breeds than others…

And presumably your kitten wouldn’t have been exposed to feline coronavirus at the cattery but it’s not unlikely that they would be exposed at some point in their life given they don’t reside in a bubble… and if or when this happens what are the chances it’ll become the dreaded FIP?

So mitigating this risk when purchasing from a breeder can be a little more complicated… it’s not something I think should turn you off of the breed but it is something to keep in mind - and if you look into a breeder that seems good but has a lot of reviews or reports of their graduate kittens and cats developing FIP? Probably best to keep looking.

I think that’s a pretty good summary on the breed’s health but people are always welcome to chime in!
