Goddd thinking about the time loop-y elements of Hadestown really makes the line “I knew you before we met, and I don’t even know you yet” hit different

(PLS DO NOT READ AS BATCEST)
Jason: alright Eurydice, calm down, no need to get stabby
Damian: I WILL— why am I Eurydice?
Jason: because… Bruce went to bargain for your soul? Obviously Orpheus failed, but eh.
Damian: and what would that make you?
Jason: Icarus. Duh.
Tim: does that make me Perdix?
Jason: no, Tim. Not everything is about you. Perdix is Stephanie
Bruce: but I didn’t push Stephanie off of a high building
Stephanie: you might as well have.

he literally looked back because he loved her. she was already dead. she wouldve still been dead even if he hadnt looked back and they'd made it. she was a ghost. she wouldve come back wrong. it's not a happy ending (yes it is). he loved her. he looked back. HE DID NOT FAIL HER!!!!! its not about getting back what you've lost its about saying goodbye. there is no other end to this story. im done.

It's Padmé defending's hours for me
I have been seeing more negative (with very weird connotations, tbh) posts about Padmé on my dash lately, and while I'm a firm believer of the "scroll past it" rule, it really irks me a lot because MOST of these takes sound a bit mysoginistic to me and also (to me) shows a lack of trying to understand her as a character, not in a "you don't get her" way, but in a "you don't even try to understand the character and her context in the damn story just because you wanna sound holy than thou" way.
I'm all for accepting takes about Padmé's flaws or having a slightly more privileged/closed view (and that makes sense, she's aristocracy) but these people are SO WEIRD whenever they wanna talk about her 🤨
I'll forever mad that George eliminated SO MANY scenes with Padmé in the movies, but I feel like even if we had those scenes, people's complaints would be exactly the same.
But also i think half of the time people fail at understanding Padmé is because they're also failing to understand Anakin's as a character, idk

something about Hatchetfield is so Hadestown coded. something about how it's a sad tale, but we sing it anyway. as if it will turn out this time. (i'll find you in the next timeline). something about how not everyone can make it out, and those that do don't make it out unchanged. something about love that was doomed from the start (wait for me? i will.) (emma, im sorry, you lost) (i'd have to let you go). something about how the scenery changes, but the stories are the same. something about it was a world of gods and men (there are monsters and there are men).

I love that Emma represented Orpheus going down to the underworld to get Killian (Eurydice) back.
I love that Emma's 'don't look back' was her trying to do the right thing and having to let go of Killian to save her family.
But she does look back.
Before she steps into the clock tower she looks back.
She's checking if he's behind her just like Orpheus did.
Love can make us do things when all the logic in the world is telling us not to do it.
Orpheus went to the underworld and looked back because he loved Eurydice.
Emma went to the underworld and looked back out of love.
Love defies all logic.

And just the kill us off even more, the next time she looks back, he is there.

I understand that the nature of this site means you cannot post a romantic poem (or really anything else) without everyone and their fujoshi mother tagging and adding gifs of their otp. I have come to terms with that. However there are many people doing that who I think belong in hell simply for forcing me to see their bad taste.

his waters of mars moment, foreshadowed by a million preceding events, but this time he's not doing it out of hubris or to prove some kind of point, alone and unhinged: he's doing it for love.
all the way back in before the flood ... i'm changing history to save clara.

It breaks my heart knowing that Act One!Orpheus wouldn't turn around. He's hopeful. He's optimistic. He believes in all the good in the world even when the world is a cruel and cold place
But Act Two! Orpheus has seen how the world is. He's seen how cruel and cold that it is. He forgets that there can be hope. And that is one of the most breaking things about the musical, in my opinion. Watching this man lose not just the woman that he loves, but all the hope that he had. Watching as he learns that the world isn't this happy and wonderful and beautiful place that he dreams about.
