yall have got to be more normal about Southern people and I'm not kidding. enough of the Sweet Home Alabama incest jokes, enough of the idea that all Southerners are bigots and rednecks, and enough of the idea that the South has bad food. shut up about "trailer trash" and our accents and our hobbies!
do yall know how fucking nauseating it is to hear people only bring up my state to make jokes about people in poverty and incestuous relationships? how much shame I feel that I wasn't born up north like the Good Queers and Good Leftists with all the Civilised Folk with actual houses instead of small cramped trailers that have paper thin walls that I know won't protect me in a bad enough storm?
do yall know how frustrating it is to be trans in a place that wants to kill you and whenever you bring it up to people they say "well just move out" instead of sympathizing with you or offering help?
do yall understand how alienating it is to see huge masterposts of queer and mental health resources but none of them are in your state because theyre all up north? and nobody seems to want to fix this glaring issue because "they're all hicks anyways"
Southern people deserve better. we deserve to be taken seriously and given a voice in the queer community and the mental health space and leftist talks in general.

Yall remember how Texas had that "report an abortion" form that they had to take down after a week?
Well, Missouri has one, only it's for reporting transgender concerns.
Comrades. Friends. Romans. Countrymen. You know what to do.

“witnessed” means saw or directly experienced btw, had to condense words for space
bonus: put the time period / geographic area of where u went to school in tags
*EDIT* I realize I unintentionally used “homophobia” as an umbrella term but assume it also includes transphobia/queerphobia/any other type of lgbt+ related prejudice/discrimination

Max Hightower, a senior, has been active in Sherman High School's theater productions throughout his school years, and his dedication paid off when he landed the male lead last month in "Oklahoma!," reported KXII-TV. … But shortly after he was cast in the part, Max said the school principal and told him about a new policy that would take away his role because he identifies as a transgender male. “Actors and actresses could only play a role that was the same gender they were assigned at birth,” Max said. “I was devastated." The school district said the show would be postponed until January due to what officials called sexual content and profanity, and they said while there was no policy on how students are assigned to roles, for this production the gender of the role as identified in the script would determine casting.

Really awesome article was published today (April 30th, 2023) about gay rodeo!!!
Please give it a read, and if anyone wants information on how to get involved: where to go watch, or even competing- just let me know. Gay rodeo has been going on since the 60s and has chapters in several states in the US, as well as in Canada. But only has a fraction of the numbers it used to, and very few younger folks.

In 1983, the 1981 book Jenny Lives With Eric & Martin, by Danish author Susanne Bösche, was published in England. The book was intended for primary school children and told the story of Jenny, a little girl who lived with her father and his male lover. It was quickly banned from schools after protests from parents and politicians who feared that it might encourage children to "experiment with homosexuality".
