hello ! im socstudies :)

i've been on studyblr for about five/six years now but i haven't always been active ...

i'm doing a reintroduction bc it's been a while and im about to start my second year of uni!

i study criminology and sociology (2nd year!)

i plan on going to grad school, hopefully in the us!

my research area interests are globalisation and the internet! specifically stan twt, kpop and other fandoms and how they've created a sort of culture of their own which transcend country borders!

i also post on instagram and tiktok! (studyingsoc on both!)

i have a lucky black cat who is the most perfect little cat in the whole world <333

september 5th, 2022

last week I finally started my PhD program! it's so surreal to be here. how long have I daydreamed about my first day of class? was it really six months ago that I came to visit campus for the first time? despite the high intellectual demand, everything feels more chill than my undergrad experience. instead of pouring my every fiber of being into making the grade, my entire purpose is instead steeping my mind in new ideas and becoming a better scientist. and despite the stress, that's an incredibly relaxing shift.

100 days of productivity 12/100

Will really work on getting my hours up for next week. Min 2 hrs of study

A semi-productive day. Started off really well! Woke up at 5.15 and finished the math homework due next week! In school I finished a chapter slightly ahead than the others in math, and art is going well but physics always just drains me and I need to look at some more resources to help me understand it better (& do past papers too, will do some tomorrow). I've also got to practice more math in chemistry. I'm just not reading the questions and I just don't know what's going on (I know what's happening in the subject but I'm just getting confused by the questions and I don't know why).

That is a hefty paragraph 😅

Will try to go to the library to study next week and have most of the painting done for my final piece (board part)

may language goals (+ april review) 🩷

hi everyone! ♡

so, i'm back in Germany after spending easter in london. i got a few things done despite being surrounded by my cousins 24/7. i also met up with some of my uni friends, which was quite nice seeing them again. the days are also getting longer and warmer which i'm excited about bc it means summer is around the corner. i will be in italy later this month and into june and travel to london again shortly after so i probs won't get much of intense revision done.

my current languages:

french (A2)

dutch (A1)

nonetheless, here are my april language goals to review ♡:

maintain a 30 days duolingo & busuu streak (lost my busuu streak :( but 129 days on duolingo)

completed the april challenge on duolingo (not completed)

watch 5 easyfrench & easydutch YouTube videos (completed for french but only watched three easydutch videos, so not fully)

watch at least 5 episodes of french peppa pig (netflix) (not completed)

watch at least 3 episodes of dutch peppa pig (disney+) (not completed)

complete lessons 1 - 5 in ‘The Complete French Self-Study Guide’ with notes taking (eBook) (completed)

watch ‘Learn French in 5 Days # Day 1’ up until ‘Les jours et les mois (53:16)’ (YouTube) (not completed)

watch at least 1 French movie (not completed)

create a language learning plan for low german and gather resources (completed)

watch and review the all alphabet & numbers related videos saved in the watch later playlist (youtube) in edo and take notes (completed)

watch at least 1 edo movie (completed)

go through the alphabet & numbers in 'Ebe Edo' (book) and take notes (completed)

i don't have a disney+ account anymore so i will continue watching peppa pig in both languages on netflix. i also found an online course for low German but it's full so i'm hoping they release another entry soon because the one that's face to face, i won't be able to attend to more than half of it because i don't plan on staying in Germany after the end of summer so there's that. i did end up finding an app for low German, which is useful for someone who hasn't been exposed to the language before i.e. very beginner-friendly. although, they only go up to A2 level. but it will do for now.

When I was falling behind in school, the only thing that helped me was writing out each task I needed to complete on a sticky note and taking it down when I finished the assignment. Writing it out in a notebook or a planner didn't help; I needed that visual reward of removing that note and seeing the list decrease as I finished each assignment.

I also assigned a color to each class to keep track of them (I was very behind in my English class at the time of this photo).

Another thing that may have helped is assigning a color to a class, assigning a color to urgency instead - for example, red is late, yellow is tomorrow, blue is a week, and green is two weeks or more.
