"girl, listen to this."
pushing back in your rolling chair, you moved to give your housemate sarah space as she grabbed one of the earbuds from your outstretched hand and popped it into her ear. thumb tapping once on the space bar to press play, you lifted your gaze to her face, gauging her reaction. after a beat, she looked at you, brow raised.
"okayyy. it sounds like a boring ass class lecture."
chuckling, you shook your head for a second before nodding. "right, so now listen to this."
middle finger on the trackpad, you paused the recording and switched tabs, queueing up a different audio. you returned your attention back to sarah's face just in time to see it change completely. from open curiosity to complete shock and maybe even a little scandalized due to the rating of the content flowing into her ears. brows furrowing then stretching to a high raise, her head tilted slightly from one side to the other before she pulled out them out.
"okay, now that's some straight up porn. the hell you got me listening to?"
dodging her playful swat, you laughed, letting the sound build up from your belly, spilling between glossed full lips, hand reaching to pause the audio again.
"you don't think they sound like the same person?" you asked, ignoring her question as you got to the point of the demonstration.
squinting her eyes, sarah looked to the side as she ran the voices back over again in her head.
"play that first one again." you did, the baritone of professor rogers' voice softly bleeding out from the headphones, slightly distorted the further in distance. "hmm, yeah i guess they do sound ali- hold up? are you sayin' that's one of your professors?"
lips rolling in slightly, you gave a wide, closed-mouth smile, the corners of your eyes creasing as you nodded.
"he only started at vbu last year, but sarah, if that's who i think it is, that man's voice has brought me to some of the best orgasms in my life for the past...what? 2, 3 years now?" you estimated.
"even while you were with..."
"especially while i was with..." you trailed off, the both of you holding strong to leaving the names of your exes in the past with person they belonged to.
"ho-ly shit," sarah breathed out in syllables, as much disbelief in her voice as you were feeling.
you shook your head, thinking back to the first day of script writing class a handful of weeks ago, where unanimously-dubbed finest professor on campus, and the newest, steven rogers stood up in front of a classroom of thirty people and introduced himself in the same sonorous timbre as the voice that you brought yourself to climax just twenty-two hours before. you had made the connection almost instantly, but refused to allow your mind to keep the link.
there was no way this army captain veteran with a medal of honor, a cannes film festival award for best screen play, and a goddamn heart tremor was an audio porn narrator. no fucking way. and it was dangerous to even let the idea fully form in your mind.
but then the weeks continued on--as did your solo sessions--and eventually you started to pick up similarities between the way professor rogers and thenomad7418 pronounced certain words. thus came the idea to record and compare.
which is exactly where sarah found you after her getting in from her shift at a local nursing home.
"soooo...you gonna fuck him or what?"
snapping you head up and to the side, you gave her a look questioning her sanity.
"bitch, what?"
"i mean, you doin' all this for what? shits and giggles? you already know he can get you off with just his words and the sound of his voice. time to see what else dat mouth do."  she shrugged a shoulder before turning back towards the door, walking away as she spoke. "bye. i'm gonna go pick up my child now."
throwing up a peace sign without even looking back, she left you to simmer in her words of wisdom.
there was no way you could fuck your professor. right? like, there were literal rules about that sort of thing...wasn't there?
you probably should've been ashamed about the length of time you spent typing away into the search engine of both the university's website and the general internet, trying to see just how far the legalities stretched. you probably should've been putting all this effort into his assignment that was worth half your final grade, but there were more pressing matters at hand.
according to the many sources across the net, it was heavily frowned upon and considered especially unethical for a professor to sleep with their student.
however.
it wasn't illegal.
so as long as professor rogers was willing to risk his job and the respect of his colleagues, the overall institution of higher education, and most-likely his family, all signs were a-go.
the question was: were you actually going to make this information useful? and if so, how would you go about it? hell, were you even sure this was thenomad7418?
an alarm pinged on your phone, a reminder to submit your first ten pages of your assigned twenty-page script for review, gave you an idea. fingers flying across the keys, you located the file and began to type away at your new edits, only pausing to queue up one of your favorite audio posts from thenomad7418 and pressing play.
it was risky, but it would confirm whether or not professor rogers had a secret online hobby and if he did, would also let him know you knew while putting the ball in his court in a way that would hopefully have than his balls slapping against your court.

what the actual fuck?
Tumblr media
"alright, now as you all know this is the first day of our new schedule, meaning there's no class this thursday or any thursday the rest of the semester."
a few classmates took the opportunity to let out a few whoops and though the reminder of "this thursday's" importance made your stomach turn, you couldn't lie. the idea of being free thursday nights brought a smile to your face.
"now, don't get too excited. i want you guys to use this free time to work on your scripts and take advantage of my open office hours, okay?" his gaze swept over the class pointedly, as if trying to instill the advice through his eyes. "i'm holding that time specifically for this class so be wise with your time. don't waste it because you won't get it back."
he paused for effect before continuing on, scuffing the bottom of his dress shoe against the tiled floor as he turned in his slow pacing.
"one final thing before you go."
the start of his sentence prompting the sudden scrapes and paper-rustling as you and your peers took it as a sign to pack up.
"i'm grateful for the few of you that took the initiative to turn in your 10 pages early even though they aren't due until this friday. for those that haven't turned in your assignments yet, i just want to reiterate that i will not accept plagiarized work. not only is it against school policy, but it's also against my own personal moral code."
shame burned in the pit of your belly as professor rogers basically called you out without slandering your name out loud. you hesitated in putting your notebook into your bag, wanting to glance over your shoulder from where you're hunched, but instead deciding to keep your head ducked.
"the some of you that have turned your assignments early, please check your emails. it seems as if there are a few of you that need to schedule a meeting with me to talk about your submission."
this time you did look up at him, watching as his eyes bounced non-committedly around the room as he spoke, his final words breezing through pink lips when his eyes locked on yours.
baby blue burned into dark umber, capturing your gaze until he chose to break it, looking away. feet continuing in its movement, he crossed towards his desk, reaching over to tap a key on his laptop with a dramatic flair, effectively disconnecting his device from the projector.
"class dismissed."
Tumblr media
for as bold of an idea your plan originally was, you couldn't lie and say you weren't nervous, knee bouncing as you sat on the couch in the small lobby of the english department's offices.
since it was five minutes to 7:30pm, the time of your schedule meeting with professor rogers, the offices were empty. all except for one, the bright light of your professor's office providing additional illumination to the moderate space through the half-way open door.
you had been there for ten minutes now, not wanting to add tardiness to his already tainted opinion of you, but any time you thought about getting up to get this whole ordeal over with, the knot in your stomach tightened you into submission on the plush cushion of the loveseat.
a stray cough sounded in the silence of the room, slipping from behind professor rogers' open door, breaking your thoughts from their stream of rumination.
fuck, did he know you were here this entire time? well, that's embarrassing.
wiping your hands on your thighs, smoothing the fabric, you released a deep breath. the worries, the stress, the possible outcomes floating around in you mind space, pushed out of your current consciousness with one long silence expel of carbon dioxide. you rose to your feet, body moving on autopilot towards the gapped door.
you stuttered a knock against the wood, pushing past the cracked barrier at his immediate "come in."
his office was more spacious on the inside than from where it seemed in the lobby, tucked away in the back corner. angled gothic-style windows adorned the far two sides of the room, carved crown molding in a dark cherry wood wrapped the perimeter, matching bookcases braced tall along the walls, filled with literature, interlaced with personal trinkets.
even in his short time of employment at the university, professor rogers had run out of space for his books, neat and haphazardly stacked piles littered the back wall, awaiting a proper home.
several feet from the farthest wall of windows sat the man in question, tapping away at a laptop that sat on his busy desk.
"you wanted to see me, professor?"  you prompted, shoes glued to the floor where you stood, the open door not too far from your back.
the steady clickity-clack of fingers on keys didn't pause as he glanced up at you. you weren't sure if you imagined the way his eyes swept over your frame, especially with how quickly his gaze moved back to the illuminated screen in front of him.
"yes, please come in, shut the door, and have a seat. i'm just finishing up this email."
he motioned first towards the door then the two chairs that sat facing his desk with one hand, the other and eyes still trained on their current task.
okayyy, you mouthed to yourself, turning on your heel to pushed the door closed before moving take a seat, placing your bag in the empty chair next to you.
time seemed to slow down as you waiting for him to finish. his fingers barely paused in their typing, only in occasion as you assumed he was reading over what he had just wrote.
you studied him, the frustrated indent between his brow, the neutral down turn of the corner of his lips, the minuet movement of blue irises as they danced along, typed sentence by typed sentence.
the resolute stream of the keys lulled your anxiety into false security, pressured tempo of your heart calming to an even hammering before hiccupping in its stride the second professor rogers' gaze lifted to meet yours.
locked and loaded with emotions and intent you had yet to decipher, professor rogers' hands reached up to close his laptop before lying flat on the desk as he pushed himself to stand.
"shall we get started?" he asked, brow quirking as he slow stepped around his desk.
shifting forward in your seat, you licked your lips nervously, mentally queueing up the bullshit apology and excuse you had worked on all morning.
"professor rogers, first, i want to apologize for w--"
he held up a hand as he settled his against the front corner of his desk, effectively cutting you off mid-script.
"i just have one question for you." you nodded eagerly, curiosity pushing through the mental anguish. "how long have you known?"
wait, what?
head crooking back slightly, you gave a long blink, trying to process the curve ball query he threw in your direction.
"i-i'm sorry?"
"how long have you known that i'm thenomad? were you planning to blackmail me or something? because i promise you, sweetheart, i can give you many reasons why you'd come to regret it."
there was a darkening to his gaze that seemed to add to the glaze that already started to cover your sex the minute he told you to come in.
you weren't sure if it was a natural response your body had developed through years of listening to that baritone bring you beyond insanity, or if it was because this man truly measured up to his on-campus secret moniker of being the most attractive man employed.
it didn't matter if his words were probably hinting at something along the lines of an academic suspension and a report to the appropriate authorities, repercussions that seemed more aligned with what you knew of his professional life and apparent morals. an oral history of his dirtiest desires were seared into your mind, making the immediate interpretation his threat something a little more filthy.
a small smirk curled on your lips, the anxiety about academic penalties giving way slightly to the ultimate satisfaction of being right.
"actually, i wasn't entirely sure until i got hit with that plagiarism email the other day, which was fucked up by the way."
"language," he chastised, arms folding across his chest, a sigh releasing from his chest. "but that is a relief. i may have been a captain, but i never really liked doling out unnecessary punishments."
pulsing in your panties, you wondered what actions he considered catalyst for such corporal punishment and how soon you'd be able to pull it off. your gaze drifted over his chest, tight knit of his sweater stretching across the muscles he seemed to be maintaining well post-military career.
the clearing of his throat snapped your attention back to his face as he spoke again.
"however, that does bring me to another question." shifting his weight, he settled further into his seat on his desk, legs crossing at the ankle.  "how long have you been a fan? because that little dialogue you wove into your project--which you'll need to resubmit by the way--was a little over a year old."
a bashful tingle danced along your cheekbones, fingers twitching in your lap as you fought the desire to cover your face.
it was one thing to be bold in your lust in the privacy of your apartment, but speaking to the man in which you were a lustful fan of, him questioning the depth of your desires, had you flaming from the inside out.
if it weren't for the blue flames blazing in his eyes, the slight but evident bulge forming in his dress pants, you would've felt alone in your interest.
"i might've found your page back during freshman year," you said.
"and you're a senior now?"
"yes," you breath out, voice carrying on the air softer than expected.
a hum vibrating between closed lips, the blond stood from his half-seated position, shoes sounding measured steps as he moved to stand behind where you sat. your eyes followed him until he was out of sight, your head unturned.
"and did i make you feel good?"
his question was unexpected, but your pussy clenched all the same, thick thighs rubbing together in an automatic search for succor. mutely, you nodded, head ducking slightly, demure in action.
"i can't hear you, doll." the rasp of his voice sounded in your ear, his warm breath curling around the shell of it. nose nuzzling the soft skin tucked behind the lobe, he continued to speak. "did your needy little pussy get wet at the sound of my voice?"
fuck, this man was going to ruin you. you already knew what his voice did to your through the audio distortion provided by today's current technology.
but to hear it in its truest and rawest form, a gruffer vibrato that his normal class lecture voice lacked, it only fueled the fires licking their way up your spine.
"yes," you answered honestly. there was no turning back now, no more hiding behind the anonymity of your a generic username and profile picture.
"mmm, i'm not gonna lie; i like hearing that i've been making you cum since before you've even met me."
he straightened up, the distance between you two giving you the space to let go of the breath you had been holding. the growing tension didn't so much as break as it did shift, given room to breathe like wine poured into a glass.
you changed a glance at him over your shoulder, plump bottom lip caught between your teeth as you drank in the new adjustments to his outfit he was making.
suit jacket tossed onto the spare chair, deft fingers unbuttoned and rolled the sleeves of his dress shirt back, revealing a fine dusting of hair along his brawn forearms before traveling north as did your gaze.
a throaty chuckle drew your attention from the loosening of his navy tie to the smirk now playing on his lips. busted.
"enjoying the show?" feeling bold, you nodded, teeth dragging off your lip as your released it. "well that's too bad because i feel like i'm the one overdue for a performance."
"uh..." you turned back around in your seat, bashfulness tempering the steaming swirl of your sacral.
sensing your apprehension, professor rogers stepped close to you again, hands resting on your shoulders as he leaned in, voice back in your ear where you loved for it to be.
"don't go shy on me now. it's nothing you haven't done before. i'll even provide the soundtrack."
strong hand smoothed up and down your arms, the feeling of his lips pressing kisses against your clothed shoulder soothing the shyness into submission.
eyes locked on his traveling hands, your breathing hitched when they reached your thighs, soft cotton of your knee length skirt sliding sensually against your skin.
"don't you wanna be a good girl for me? a good girl for your professor?"
it seemed as if the moisture in your mouth had dried up, choosing the sweetness between your thighs as its new home. unable to form words, you nodded. the skirt paused, bunched in his grip from where it slid higher up your thighs.
"all my student speak up in class, don't they? unless you want me to spank that clit until you can remember how to use your words."
"yes, god yes." you confessed, hips swiveled and bucked against the cushion, searching for friction.
professor rogers' chuckle sounded in your ear, saturated with desire as he displayed amusement in your desperation.
"don't worry. i'll take care of ya. right after show and tell. you show me how you cream those pretty fingers of yours and i'll tell you exactly how good you look taking my dick."
the skirt pooled at your waist now, fingertips creating choreography on your bare skin. "now open these sexy legs for me, sweetheart."
as if they were his to control, your legs fell open, breathing becoming more labored as his hands made a seamless transition to your inner thighs.
"oh ho-ho, who knew you were such a teacher's pet?"
his fingers softly kneaded the muscles there, lightning current traveled the expanse of your body, limbs shivering as a wave of promised pleasure triggered your senses.
"show me you can be a good girl and touch yourself for me."

“That’s it, baby, squeeze my cock just like that,” Steve groaned as he pounded into you from behind. You could barely manage a gasping intake of breath as his cock hit that spot inside you dead-on and you arched your back on instinct, trying to get him deeper. Steve groaned approvingly, gripping your hips tighter as he speared you harder.
It was the third time that day, this time bent over the kitchen table. It had only taken a look and the grazing of your fingers as Steve handed you your tea. Next thing you knew, your panties were down around your ankles, your dress hiked up over your head and you were being fucked within an inch of your life, completely naked, bent over the table. The cool air from the open patio door sent goosebumps over your exposed skin, and the obscene slick between your legs squelched in between Steve’s grunts and your gasping moans. Steve had his pants down around his ankles, and he was bent over you, mouthing aggressively at your neck.
You whined as another pounding wave of pleasure rippled through you, threatening to take your knees out. Steve’s hands wound around to your rounded belly, stroking over the bump and groaning against the nape of your neck, pushing his face into your hair and taking in greedy gulps of your air, and you flushed at the aggressive way he was smelling you, your hormones no doubt driving his frenzy higher.
“You’re so gorgeous like this, all round and heavy with my baby” he growled, and the ownership in his voice made you keen. “Walking around like this, letting me see just how much you’ve grown from my seed inside you,” Steve said, nibbling on your ear and the skin below it in a proprietary way. You flushed hot from the top of your head down to your toes, trying to hide your rapidly heating face, the way his praise washed over you like silk, making you thrust your hips back to meet his pelvis.
“Mmm, did you like the sound of that, baby?” Steve teased, smiling against the clammy skin of your neck, hands coming up to cup your bouncing breasts, teasing the puffy nipples and you wailed, completely beyond words. “Did you?” Steve asked again, slowing his hips down just a tad despite your sound of protest. “Answer me, sugar,” he said sternly, pinching your nipples between thumb and forefinger and your pussy throbbed, a sign you were spiraling towards the edge despite Steve slowing his thrusts. His words whirled around in your mind along with the hormonal arousal constantly begging for release and the way his warm skin felt on yours, the primal position of your fucking, the guttural sounds he made as his hands ran over your pregnant belly while his cock, hard as a rod, pounded into your yielding, wet flesh. His cock was so hard, and you knew you were dripping to the floor.
Flushing even more profusely, you could only manage a nod, your mouth opening to desperately pull in air. Steve kissed your cheek with an open mouth, messily, moaning approvingly, but he didn’t speed up his thrusts again, and you were about to go insane, your body tense and shivering.
“I need your words, honey, do you have a few words for daddy?” he asked, sickly sweet as one of his hands moved down to lightly graze your swollen and pulsing clit. You nearly lost your footing again, knees shaking as he teased your clit with his fingertips, hips moving steadily, jolting you forward before you moved back to meet his thrusts, mindlessly seeking more friction to bring you over the edge. Your head was completely empty of coherent thought and he knew it.
He fucking loved when you got like this, it reminded him of those first times in your apartment, when you’d gone from a shy, terrified little bunny to a drooling, wet, empty-headed, cum-hungry whore just from his cock and words alone.
He grazed your clit with his fingertips again and you shouted, head hanging low in your embarrassment. “Yes! I l-liked it,” you practically wailed to the floor. Steve cooed appreciatively, voice laced with the tiniest amount of degradation, but didn’t speed up his thrusts and you wanted to throw something.
“Yes what, baby?” he asked pointedly, the hand not teasing your clit to insanity coming up to turn your head up and back to catch his eyes.
You moaned, feeling the weight of your belly shift with his thrusts, his fingers holding your pleasure so neatly just beyond your reach as they ghosted over your nub, his eyes demanding you lay your soul bare for him, give yourself completely over to his will.
“Yes, daddy,” you whispered, tears springing to your eyes at the way rolling shivers of pleasure rippled through you at saying those words, at being made to say those words, to him, while he held your gaze with his stare.
He growled, eyes holding yours in a tight grip as his hips finally picked up speed, rapidly increasing to the pounding he did before, slamming against that spot inside you you could never reach yourself.
“Good girl,” he growled, his fingers pressing to your clit, rubbing fast circles and you whined in almost alarm at the pace of which your orgasm welled up inside you. Your whole body tensed up, pussy squeezing Steve’s cock to the point of pain and he gasped. Your orgasm exploded inside you, pulling Steve right over the edge with you.
“Fuck, just like that. Here it comes, baby,” he gritted out and then you felt the hot flush of his cum shooting inside you, his cock pulsing unevenly as he fucked himself through it, never slowing down. You knew what he was aiming at.
Completely unable to stop him or yourself, your belly and the weight of both yourself and him pushing down and the way his cock kept ramming you in your post-orgasm sensitivity had you wailing as another string snapped. You squirted, a huge gush that exploded from you and coated both your thighs and Steve’s before splattering to the floor.
Your body convulsed, only held up by Steve’s strong arms as your mind short-circuited from the pleasure, eyes glued to the sight of your juices wetting the floor below you.
Something had changed in Steve since that first time he fed from you and fucked you at the same time, a tether snapping. He no longer even tried to control his desire, his demand for your body, your mind, your entire being. He was, in a word, unhinged. His hands practically never left you, always stroking, groping, gripping, rubbing, smacking your ass lightly and pinching your seemingly perpetually peaked and sensitive nipples playfully, smirking like a cat at the way you shivered. The touches would range from light, reverend grazes, like he just needed to reassure himself you were there, and possessive, tight squeezes, like he couldn’t handle not being inside you a moment longer. He usually didn’t wait long before pushing your dress up, tugging your panties off or just to the side and sheathing himself inside you with a brutish grunt. You, in turn, were so swollen and aching and needy - you couldn’t stop him even if you wanted to. You needed him, needed his cock, needed him to push you against the nearest surface, keep you there while he took the edge off for the both of you - until your hormones sent the both of you into a frenzy again.
Later in the evening, Steve had you riding him on the couch. It had started as a lower back massage, but they rarely stayed that way nowadays. Steve was as insatiable as you, and along those first times, your enthusiasm had loosened his tongue. Now he couldn’t seem to keep his praise in, making you flush hot or preen or go all shy from the filth that spewed from him.
“Yes, that’s it baby, ride that cock, take what’s yours. You want my cum, baby? Want to milk my cock while I milk you?” he asked on a gasp as you bounced on him as good as you could with your belly rounded, still shiny from the oil he’d rubbbed into it earlier. He bent forward and took one of your leaking nipples into his mouth, his cock throbbing inside you as he fed from you while looking up into your eyes through his thick, long lashes.
“Fuck,” you gasped as he groaned, the vibrations going through your tender flesh, and sweat covered your brow as you spasmed on his cock, pussy helplessly clamping down. Steve gasped away from your breast, your milk leaking out and soaking his beard as he bent up to kiss you with a mouthful of milk. He seemed to like feeding it back to you, making out while the sweet taste of it lingered between you, completely obliterating any line of decency, sending you head first into heady depravity in that same possessive way he’d always done.
“Here it comes, baby, make sure to keep it all in for daddy,” Steve murmured against your lips before he came, and you were helpless against the lewdness of the new nickname he’d given himself, and how much you secretly liked it. You came with a cry along with him, his thumbs slowly teasing your sensitive nipples, just lingering there, covered in white milk.
You were floating on the heady cloud of pleasure Steve kept around you at all times. Really, you had nothing else to do all day but wait for your pregnancy to advance, and you both seemed content to just fuck all day, every day. You wondered if Steve missed his job, missed the outside world. You didn’t, had stopped longing for it once Steve had made you see that the only safe thing to do was to be with him. You had everything you needed with him, anything you could want for. Steve loved and took care of you, the mansion provided every piece of food, clothing and entertainment you could wish for. Honestly, if there was anything you were desperate for, it was not to go back to those early days where all you’d been was obsessive, desperate and miserable. Once you saw the only path away from that was with Steve, you’d accepted it, and then the fog of pleasure he’d thrust upon you had wiped out any resistance.
Steve fucked you everywhere. Under the trees in the garden, mouthing his way down your chest, taking each nipple into his mouth and laving them in generous licks before kissing his way down your rounded belly, stroking it tenderly while kissing it over and over like he just couldn’t believe it was there. It was heady and intense, this obsession with your bump, and you almost felt overwhelmed by it, by the magnitude of his devotion, by how proud and primal it made him. Steve feasted on you. He groaned against your flesh, alternating between sucks and small, teasing licks until you came on his tongue before slipping his cock inside while you were still spasming, a possessive hand on your belly as he rutted deep inside you.
He fucked you in the shower, joining you in the morning and teasing you to delirium, tweaking your nipples until they were tender and erect, rutting his cock against your lower back until you bucked back against him, slipped a finger down to tease your ass as he thrust into your weeping cunt, drawing orgasm after orgasm from you while whispering filthy nothings into your sensitive ear and made you call him daddy.
You’d catch him watching you with darkened eyes as you waddled along, a hand on your aching lower back, and you’d be all too aware of his keen eyes as you carefully lowered yourself into a chair or the sofa with a groan. Seeing your body changing to adapt to your growing belly seemed to ignite this primal hunger in him, and his hungry stare would in turn ignite shivers on your skin, your own arousal awakening to meet his. He’d ambush you in the hall and go down on you while you leaned against the wall, your moans echoing into the grand staircase.
“So wet for me, doll. Are you this wet for me?” he’d ask, hot breath gusting over your clit, and all you could do was nod, tugging on his hair to bring his face back to your puffy pussy.
You welcomed it all. Craved it all. Spent less and less time in clothing, spent more time initiating touches with him. A hand on his chest as you passed him in the kitchen, a brush of fingers over his as you passed him your empty teacup, a deliberate press of your toes against his bulge as he massaged your feet. Anything to incite the desire that welled inside him like a feral tidal wave. Giggling when he gave you that downright hungry gaze before pouncing on you, pressing you into the cushions as much as was comfortable for your bump before peppering your neck with kisses, groaning what a tempting little siren you were.
You didn’t know how much time passed like that - in this pleasure limbo with Steve, where all you did was fuck, eat, sleep and occasionally monitor your pregnancy symptoms. You had one more appointment with Dr. Banner in the clinical office set up in the basement, where he declared you healthy and stable like before. Steve preened and squeezed your hand, all proud and pleased, his other hand stroking lovingly on your bump. Your bloodwork came back with interesting results too, but you understood none of it. Steve reassured you all you needed to know was that everything looked fine - better than fine. You were in tip-top shape and the baby was strong and healthy.
You’d grown to like stroking your bump yourself now, your hand going there of its own accord. It was hard not to get fond of it with the way Steve doted on it, the way he loved you for it, so sweet and reverent, nothing like the harsh and dominating way he’d sometimes been in the past. There hadn’t been any movement in your belly yet, but you trusted it would come soon, a part of you hoping Steve would be there when you first felt that kick. A part of you started to wonder just what life would be like once the child was born.
Life in the mansion mellowed out to a hazy, pleasure-filled dream, the days melting together even as you passed your seven months milestone of the pregnancy. It hit you that even if you gave birth now, the child would probably survive. When you’d told Steve he’d kissed you soundly, grinning from ear to ear while telling you it’d probably survived a lot earlier than this, considering it was his baby. You found yourself swatting his arm reproachfully for his cockiness, but couldn’t contain your smile as he laughed and insinuated his face into the crook of your neck to kiss your skin, pulling you closer to him so your bump was firmly pressed against his chiseled torso, warm and snug.
Though Steve was adamant you get enough sleep, you would sometimes find yourself awakening in the middle of the night to him kissing down your body, hungry and heady. You never complained, you were so fucking horny all the time it didn’t take long before you were keening needily for him, writhing on the sheets as he licked and sucked at your pussy. Tonight was one of those nights, and the moonlight cast a silvery blue light on the calm bedroom as Steve kissed over your bump, broad hands lifting it, helping you turn to lay on your back so he could get in between your thighs. You sighed, arousal welling up like a wave inside you, slow and sluggish and pulsing languidly as he pressed his face to your mound and started licking your clit teasingly.
Breathy sounds escaped you as you lay there, half-asleep still, riding the pleasant sensations coursing along in your veins. Time slipped away from you in these dreamlike hours, and you were getting into it, moving your hips as much as you could to help create friction on your needy parts when Steve’s head unexpectedly and abruptly disappeared from your wet cunt. Thinking he was teasing you, you lifted your hips in search of his mouth when his hand on your hips stilled you, hard and urgent.
A ping of alarm set off in the back of your mind, and you opened your eyes to peer down. Steve was on his knees in the bed, head turned towards the open doors to the bedroom, so still it was almost like he was a statue. Something was off.
“Ste-” you started to ask, but was cut off by him turning his head and lifting a finger to press to his lips, eye stark and wide in the silence of the night. You could hear nothing but your own breathing.
Steve crawled up the bed to speak close to your ear, and you were astonished by the fact that he made no sound whatsoever, his limbs in the sheets didn’t even seem to make any noise. Distant questions of Steve’s profession whispered in the far expanses of your mind, questions you hadn’t pondered in months.
“Stay here, don’t make a sound, I’ll be right back,” he whispered in your ear. You nodded, a kernel of fear catching on fire in your chest. It wasn’t like you could run very well in this condition. You remembered that first night he’d appeared in your apartment, the wound on his shoulder, how he said he’d gotten it from some man with a sword.
Steve got out of the bed, only clad in a pair of gray boxer shorts and padded on soundless, bare feet to the door, peered subtly out into the hallway and then disappeared.
Your heart was a rapidly growing thump in your chest and you lay as frozen as you could, listening and listening, straining to hear even a single thing in the dead silent night.
Then the sound of an explosion sounded from the far side of the mansion, and all at once, the sound of shouts, gunshots, wood breaking and glass shattering filled the air. The blood in your veins turned to ice as sudden, unexpected fear spread in your body. It was happening on the lower floor, but you still felt the sudden panic of danger like a clammy film on your skin, constricting the air around you til you couldn’t breathe properly. Steve told you to wait here, to keep quiet, but as more explosions and larger sounds of shouting sounded, you found yourself propelled out of the bed, movements slow and halting as you moved with your heavily pregnant body. You were completely naked, and as you padded over to grab your robe from the hook near the bathroom door and slung it on, a booming sound of helicopter blades whipping the air appeared quicker than should’ve been possible.
Then the room was flooded with harsh light, and you whirled around to see several bright spots of light outside the window across the room, whipping to the bed before moving around the room. You knew instantly you needed to move, to not let those searching lights find you, and instinct had you bolting through the bathroom and into the hallway through the separate door. Just as you entered the hallway, the sound of splintering and exploding glass sounded from you and Steve’s bedroom and you had to cover your mouth with your hand to not scream in terror.
You needed to hide, or find Steve, but from the sounds of commotion still coming from the first floor, it sounded like he was occupied fighting several people at once. You ran up the corridor and slipped into the closet at the end, right by the staircase, cramming inside with an array of coats and suit jackets. Your breathing was out of control, heaving, wet, raspy sounds as you fought back tears, your heartbeat in your ears.
Who were these people? Why were they doing this?
You heard footsteps pounding down the hall along with shouting voices. You couldn’t hear them clearly, but caught someone telling another that there was “someone here with the target”. You tried to remember if their searching lights had hit you before you ran into the bathroom, but no, they’d had to have seen your clothes or something. Had they come for Steve, then? Why?
Footsteps descended the staircase and you took in a shaky breath, mind fighting the way you threatened to freeze up in terror. You were safe here, they hadn’t seen you. You just needed to wait it out until Steve took them out. There were so many of them, though, and your legs almost fell out from under you at the thought of Steve not making it. How could you possibly make it on your own then? Terrorizing thoughts filled your mind, of ending up alone after all you’ve been through, alone on the streets, or worse, kidnapped and used for experimentation for the child in your womb - your child.
Suddenly the door to the closet was wrenched open, and you came face to face with a figure clad in stealth gear, face entirely masked but for his eyes, dark and glaring, massive gun in his hands. He made to grab at you before his eyes shifted down and widened. He staggered back a tiny step as he beheld your pregnant belly, and your hands came up instinctively to cradle it, as if you could protect it that way.
“G forty eight,” the figure said, still staring down at your body, “found another subject. Woman. P-pregnant, sir,” he said, and there was a tiny tremor in his voice that you didn’t like, like he was pleading for something.
You stood there frozen staring at him as he listened for whatever answer would come in what you assumed was an earpiece of some kind. But as he made to grab you, grip so tight it hurt around your plump, upper arm, your fight reflex kicked in and you shoved at his chest with everything you had, a small shout of “no” escaping your lips.
To your utter astonishment, the figure flew back from the force of your shove, clean off his feet and then right down the grand staircase. Your eyes widened to the point of pain as you stood, stunned, and watched his limp form sprawled lifeless at the foot of the stairs.
Had you done that?
You had no more time to ponder what had just happened. Movement in your peripheral vision had your head whipping to see another masked figure clad in stealth gear appear from your bedroom, running towards you. You had nowhere to run but down the stairs, and on slow, naked feet, you started the descent, for you knew whatever you did, you could not let them get their hands on you. Maybe if you got to the garden you could hide in the abundant shrubberies and hidden pathways. You knew them by heart, and could easily navigate even in the dark of night.
But as you got to the foot of the stairs and started across the floor towards the living room, you were stopped dead in your tracks by the sight of Steve, still only clad in boxers, fighting two masked strangers at once. He landed a brutal punch to the jaw of one, and you could hear the crunch of bone from where you stood several meters away. Steve turned and kicked the other man in the knee, and your head spun as you saw the knee crack back at an unnatural angle, the man wailing in pain. Steve turned to the other one and grabbed his arm, twisting it clean around without even seeming to try and then threw the man into the nearest wall. The wall had a dent in it as the man slid lifeless to the ground. Steve’s face didn’t even flinch as he dealt all this carnage, his face a smooth mask of calm concentration, and you could feel your stomach churning to a knot as you watched, eyes glued to your man, your sweet, loving, doting man, completely obliterating these strangers, dealing injuries they would probably live with for the rest of their lives. Your blood started roaring in your ears, the room spinning slightly from the onslaught of what you witnessed.
As Steve went to grab the man with the broken knee, a hand clasped around your arm, breaking you out of your frozen state of observation, and you were pushed down. You slid to your knees, the marble hard under your kneecaps as you cried out more in fear than pain. The man pulled a gun from the belt at his waist and pointed it at you and your life flashed before your eyes, your lungs completely deflating, unable to pull in even an ounce of breath in a sensation of petrified fright you’d never felt before. A sound somewhere between a wail and a whimper left you.
“Stop or else she gets it,” the man shouted.
You blinked your eyes, trying to get them to focus, and found Steve, splattered in blood, fists clenched at his sides, staring at the man above you with a sort of menace that had cold shivers running down your sides, sending your instincts into a frenzy. There was death in those eyes. Stone cold, calculated, immovable death.
The man with the broken knee staggered behind Steve, pulling out a sharp knife that glinted in the dim moonlight pouring in from the windows above the main doors behind you. Your eyes followed the movement, but then struggled to keep up as Steve turned, grabbed the man’s hand and turned it upwards to jab the knife into his own throat. You jolted at the impact, the gurgled gasp the man gave through the mask. Then, Steve moved quicker than humanly possible, and when you next registered his position, he had the man above you by the throat.
The gun pointed at your head skidded across the floor away from you, and when you looked up, you were first met with the gnarled angles of the fingers on the hand the man had held the gun with. Then, as you raised your eyes, heart in your throat, you saw Steve wrench the knife out of the throat of the man.
Hot blood jetted out of him and you felt it rain across your face and body in warm, soft splatters. Petrified, mind glossing over in terror, you couldn’t move an inch as Steve, eyes wide with a sort of feral, inhuman fury you’d never seen before, punched his hand into the open gash in the man’s throat, and with a roar, tore his head clean his shoulders with his bare hands. A shrill shriek tore itself from your throat.
A wave of blood spouted from where the man’s head had been and drenched over you, covering your hair, your face and running down between the open flaps of your robe to cover your naked form. You barely managed to close your eyes in time, but your mouth and nose were filled with the unmistakable, overwhelming taste and aroma of warm iron.
Your mind stopped working then, shutting down completely in order not to take in more of the slaughter around you. Time slowed to the sluggish beats of your heart, and Steve’s voice was a far away thing as he called your name. He picked you up and carried you somewhere, but your mind couldn’t decipher where, your body numb and far away from you. Darkness closed around you. Your hands were cold.
You didn’t realize Steve had locked you in the cupboard under the stairs before he wrenched it open some indiscernible time later and carefully picked you up and carried you up the stairs.
“I’m sorry, sweetheart, I needed to check if there were any more of them,” he murmured into your head as he carried you into the bathroom and sat you down on the edge of the bathtub before starting the water.
“You hid me in the cupboard?” you heard yourself asking, though you couldn’t remember telling your mouth to move.
“Yes.”
“I tried hiding in the coat closet earlier,” you said, and your voice was a hoarse, timid thing, barely perceptible to yourself.
Steve appeared before you, eyes gentle as he cupped your face in a hand.
“You did? Well done, that was a clever thing to do, even though I told you to stay put,” he said.
“They came in through the window,” you said.
“I saw. We’ll put you in your own room tonight. But first we need to clean you. Can you stand for me?” he asked, so gentle compared to the brutal, animalistic way he’d dealt with the strangers, how he’d pulled…pulled the head…
You couldn’t finish that thought, only nodded as Steve helped you onto unsteady feet, peeled your soiled robe off you and guided the both of you into the shower. The blood washed off you, coloring the water a faint rusty hue before it whirled down the drain.
After, Steve lowered you into the bathtub, gently scrubbing your shoulders with a loofa. He didn’t get into it himself and you realized first later that he was probably on alert in case anyone else showed up. No one did, the night was eerily quiet again.
When Steve had you dressed in a silky nightgown and put you to bed in your old bedroom, the sheets cool and soothing on your skin, you found your voice again.
“The baby is okay,” you whispered, cradling your belly in your hands again.
Steve stroked your hair and smiled gently at you.
“I know. You told me earlier.”
“I did?” You couldn’t remember having said anything about the baby, though your belly felt completely normal, settled and calm, a sturdy weight on your front compared to the way the rest of your body seemed like frayed fringes of nerves and flesh flapping on an invisible wind.
“Yes, right after. You probably don’t remember since you’re in shock right now,” he said, before sitting down on the floor next to the bed and grasping your hand in his. “I promise I will never let anybody come that close to hurting you again. I’m gonna hunt down anybody that even tries, and gut them. No one will hurt you. Ever. Not as long as I’m around,” he vowed, and the way his eyes shone with a feral intent, so intense you nearly broke away from the eye contact, told you he wasn’t kidding.
Dark unconsciousness took you without contemplation, sucking down your frail mind and numb body to sleep. When you awoke, Steve was sitting on the bed, fully clad. The bright light of the sun in the room told you it was day, and when your mind came to completely, you heard the milling of voices all throughout the house. You jolted instinctively, but Steve’s hand on your shoulder halted you from bolting from the bed.
“No, sweets, it’s okay. They’re friends, colleagues, here to investigate,” Steve said calmly, and your hand came up to cling to him as you tried to steady your rapidly beating heart. “We’re moving. To a safer place,” Steve explained further, and then movement by the door caught your eye.
A man, as tall as Steve and as bulky if not more so, with dark, shoulder-length hair and a faint stubble on his chin, stepped into the room. He smiled politely at you and inclined his head at Steve. His eyes were blue, soft and kind as they looked back at you.
“Y/N, this is my friend Bucky,” Steve said gently, “he’s gonna be helping us out.”

i know u have been feeling stressed and hopefully this might make u feel better but for a request steve rogers x reader and theyre on their honeymoon
Hi there nonny!!!
Awww, I love that! Steve is the sweetest cinnamon roll so of course we have to write it!!!! This is so sweet, I have to!!! I hope you like it and it's accurate enough, it's my first time writing for him!
No warnings, just tooth rotting fluff!
Tumblr media
Honeymooning with America's Ass, Steve Rogers, would include...
Poor boy has never flown before so you have to arrange the details. Once you are packed up and ready to go, he is fascinated by a modern airport. You have to hold his hand so he doesn't get lose because he likes looking in all the shops and different restaurants!
You finally get in and he gets nervous when the plane takes off so you laugh and hug him. You go "darling...you fought Red Skull, but a plane going up makes you scared?!" teasingly and kiss his cheek.
It's a long flight so you show him how to watch movies and play games on the little device thingies that are on airplens and he stays awake the whole time playing on it.
So then you guys...spend the honeymoon in ITALY!!!!
Tumblr media
You go around to see such tall, ancient buildings. Far more ancient than Mr. Brooklyn has ever dreamt. At one point, the tour guide calls this building young since it was built in 1673 and he just stares dumbfounded!
But Steve would pick up Italian quickly. He likes calling you Italian terms of endearment like "mia/o carino/a" or "mia/o angelo/a" to make you smile.
Of course, he has to start the day by cuddling you! Though he is too excited to get up and can only take so much cuddling- like an excited puppy!
He remembers enjoying Italian places in Brooklyn when his mom and he would go to celebrate something. So he loves trying Italian cuisine. Telling you stories about his mother- and about how much she would have loved you.
He always holds your gelato like a gentleman <3 As tempted as he is, he never takes a bite of yours, he wants his new spouse to enjoy them.
However, at one point, a pickpocket creeps by you and grabs your wallet. You let out a shout and gasp as he breaks into a run.
Boy did that asshole make a mistake considering your supersoldier hubby.
Steve just fucking BOOKS IT. The pickpocket turns around and gasps. He tries to run, but Steve gets closer to him in a few steps and decks the guy until he falls easily, kicking him until he's flying like a soccer ball through the air. He then grabs your wallet throws the pickpocket to the cobbled ground and returns your wallet.
You go to all sorts of incredible art museums. Steve himself loves to doodle and when you take sitting breaks, he tries to make little copies of them. You put his hand gently over his and lean into his cheek as he does, holding his free hand.
Tumblr media
Of course, since a lot of Italian people tend to have darker hair, they make huge eyes at his blonde locks. Some even try to flirt with him, but he quickly pushes them aside to give you a hug or flash them the new wedding band, assuring you with small kisses. There are smiles and looks of jealousy- the incredibly handsome blonde man is your husband and yours alone, as you are his.
He talks to and befriends everyone. Old ladies in cathedrals praying and kissing their crucifix necklaces. Children running around streets and jumping sunburnt into the sea. Fellow tourists in wide hats and billowy shirts. Chefs of mom-and-pop shops with rosy cheeks and loud, boisterous voices and stories in every dish.
It only makes you love him more.

You were trapped, stuck in a fantasy you'd created on how things were supposed to be. Time seemed to drag on. It could've been an eternity or just a minute that passed, you wouldn’t have known the difference.
You stared out the window, mesmerized by the water as it washed away any remnants of the past five years. The meteorologists were predicting this storm would be one of the worst of this year. It was poetic, almost like the flood in Noah's Arc, if you believed in that sort of thing. Droplets clung to your window and obscured your vision making everything outside blurry and unimportant. Incense hung thickly in the air, the smell of smoke from the match you struck burning your nostrils. A lukewarm cup of hot chocolate rested on your side table, relatively untouched. You’d lost the appetite for it shortly after making it. It had been a force of habit, an old routine you hadn’t quite shaken.
Four months, and all you had to show for it was sleepless nights, tear stained cheeks and bloodshot eyes. You still couldn't find it in yourself to begin the process of moving on. To pack away the photos that littered your home. To get rid of him.
You half expected your front door to swing open. For him to burst in with his winning smile and bright eyes. He’d grab you in his arms and hold you tightly, thankful that the both of you had made it out alive. Two rounds with Thanos and neither of you died. Everything would be fairytale perfect: the world was safe, you weren't fugitives anymore, and Steve finally had Bucky back. That's how it should've been.
But he didn’t.
Steve never came back. Those fantasies and dreams were dashed and divided, like glass shattering on the hard floor. Millions of shards created thousands of open wounds.
He didn’t die a heroic death, sacrificing himself as Nat and Tony had. He chose to leave you. To stay in the past, a world he assured you he long ago made peace with losing. Swore to you that Peggy was nothing more than a fond memory he cherished like his old war buddies.
‘She’s nothing compared to my girl.’ he’d always say. The words that used to quell your deepest fears and insecurities now felt hollow. You were always the other woman. It just took you four years to discover that. All the years you’d wasted, the opportunities you’d passed up when you'd gone on the run for him. It had all been pointless.
He never even said goodbye. Steve couldn’t even bring himself to look you in the eyes as he broke your heart. You had to learn the truth from Bucky, a man you only knew by association. Sam had been there too, hand on your shoulders, holding you up as your whole world crumbled. You were barely coming to terms with the fact that Nat was gone, and now you’d have to live in a world without either of them.
Figures formed in the haze of the low fog the rain had brought. It brought buried memories to the forefront of your mind. Tears clouded your vision, making everything out of focus. A single tear fell, your first meeting with Steve playing behind your eyes like a movie.
----
“So it’s true then, Captain America is defrosted and ready for action.” Your voice was soft, a bite of snark hidden deep under the sweetness of it. You crept up behind the super soldier, but he’d known you were there. You weren’t a trained assassin, nor did you ever claim to be. Just someone good with a gun and even better at executing orders, even if not in the manner originally intended.
Steve turned, a polite smile on his face. He seemed confused and disoriented, like an old man trying to keep up with technology. An accurate description of Steve Rogers. The sun shone in his eyes, making them shine like light against blue waters. He was attractive, obnoxiously so. With perfectly tousled blonde hair, a strong jaw, and lips that looked too soft to not want to kiss.
“Ready and willing to jump back into action when I’m needed,” he said, holding a hand out for you to shake as you closed the distance separating you. He was even taller up close, nearly a foot taller than you. Which was new, you weren’t exactly short. “But please, call me Steve.”
You took his hand in yours, enjoying the sensation of his calloused and much larger hands in yours. All too quickly the handshake ended and he was retracting his touch.
“Y/N.” It was all you said, allowing yourself to stare into his blue eyes for one last moment before steeling yourself to distractions. This was a mission, not meet your local fossil at the Smithsonian. But that train of thought was harder to hold onto every time his arm gently brushed against yours.
“There’s quite the buzz around here, You’re all anyone can talk about,” you said, glancing at him out of the corner of your eye, mindful to keep your gaze professional.
“I didn’t think I’d be that exciting of a topic,” he said, an easy smile on his face as he looked around the helicarrier.
“Please, America’s hero melted and returned to modern America is cause for talk. Coulson swooned so hard he nearly fell to the floor,” you said, a whisper of a laugh at the edge of your words. Steve paused, turning to face you and you mirrored the action. You could feel the warmth radiating from his body, he was much closer than he had been a minute or so ago.
“And you, Agent Y/N?” he asked, a slight red hue dusting his cheeks. The grin on your face widened, eyes softening as you allowed yourself to get lost in his eyes one more time. “How do you feel?”
“Very happy to have you with us today, Captain.”
The grin on his face turned softer as the flush on his face got brighter. At that moment you noticed small flecks of green in his eyes.
“You always were my favorite part about learning about WWII in school.”
With a single pat on his shoulder, you continued making your way to the meeting room Fury and the others would be waiting in.
---
Christmas lights glistened in the large room, chatter and laughter in every corner. The room was grand, ostentatiously so. With vaulted ceilings, marble floors, and pretentious art that only had value because a bunch of rich people decided it did. Women in beautiful dresses of various dark shades were lit up with glittering jewels while men wore extravagant suits that were probably more expensive than your rent. The holiday gala had been in full swing for two hours now. The alcohol had made everyone's eyes glossy and lips loose.
You hung close to the bar, swirling the straw your drink had been served with. Your free hand rested on the bartop, manicured nails tapping against the wood. You were never good in events like this, all the glitz, glamor, and underhanded words. You were awkward and unsure of yourself outside of the battlefield. Fancy galas and parties exasperated that clumsy attitude. So you preferred to stick to the bar, hoping to get through the night with as little interaction as possible.
“What’s a pretty gal like yourself doing all by herself?” the voice of Steve Rogers said, interrupting your awkward fidgeting. You turned, a pleasant smile overtaking your frown. Steve was standing right behind you, dressed in a simple black suit. In comparison to everyone around him, the outfit was plain, but Steve made it look anything but that. He made everything he wore look breathtaking. It was infuriating.
“Just waiting for a fella to come sweep me off my feet,” you said, a coy grin pulling on your lips. One of your hands smoothed down your knee-length black dress. Steve’s smile broadened and he held out a single hand.
“Then how about a dance?”
You didn’t answer him, simply taking his hand in yours. He pulled you towards the center of the room, the sound of your heels matching the pace of your heart. People parted for the two of you like the Red Sea, all the attention on you and Steve. Anxiety began to rise in your stomach, nearly causing your throat to close up. But you glanced up, meeting Steve’s blue eyes that were as deep and vast as the ocean. In the most cliche way, everyone in the room became formless blurs. All that mattered was Steve and his hands that circled your waist, pulling you closer to him than probably necessary. You relished the proximity though, his heartbeat matching pace with yours, his warmth heating your chilled skin.
Your hands wrapped around his neck, the tips of your nails gently grazing his skin. Slowly, the two of you began to sway with the gentle piano that filled the room. The both of you wore matching smiles that were brighter than any lights in the room. Steve raised his hand, coaxing you to spin. The wind caused your hair to fan out, creating a halo effect as you did. The spin was more clumsy than you would’ve wanted, causing a shy giggle to leave your lips.
“I’m not very good at this,” you muttered a dusting of red on your cheeks. Steve’s grip tightened slightly, amplifying the butterflies that had been exploding in your stomach since he first approached you.
“It’s okay, neither am I,” Steve said. His smile quelled the insecurities that lingered in the back of your mind. In and out, you took a steady breath.
“You seem to be hiding it better than I am,” you said in a slightly sardonic tone, your nose scrunching for a moment. Steve shook his head, a whisper of laughter leaving his mouth. The soft sound sent your heart racing and caused your mind to turn white.
“Trust me, I’m not. See.” Steve unwrapped one of his arms from your waist, holding it out to you. You grabbed it, feeling his hand shaking. “You’ve got me seeing stars, doll.”
You’re silent for a moment, a dumb smile stuck on your face as you looked at Steve with adoration in your widened eyes. You grasped at straws, trying to think of something clever to say. But there was just static. You’d secretly been hoping for your friendship with Steve to blossom into more, and now it seemed you were getting your wish. You wanted to pinch yourself if only to see this was a dream.
Steve didn’t talk, content to watch you struggle with breathing properly. His smile was lazy, head tilted slightly to the left like a cute puppy. His eyes were filled with adoration that was directed at you. Something you’d wanted from the moment he first spoke.
“How long have you been holding onto that one, Cap?” you finally uttered after a few seconds of long silence.
“The moment we met, back on the helicarrier. Just been working up the courage to let ya know,” he said, his cheeks as equally as rosy as yours.
“Well--” you lifted Steve’s hand, spinning once again. This one was much smoother than the previous, Steve’s confession giving you a burst of confidence. “If it took nearly a year for you to tell me that, how long until you ask me out?”
After you spun, Steve's hand wrapped around your waist, both hands holding you close. You reveled in the feeling of being trapped in his arms, chest to chest and eye to eye.
“I’m free this Friday. We could go out to dinner, maybe go dancing after if you’re up for it,” Steve said.
“Oh I’m up for it Rogers,” you said, resting your head on his chest, inhaling the scent of his cologne. He leaned his head down, pressing a kiss on your forehead. It was gentle and over quicker than you would’ve liked, but you closed your eyes, imprinting the moment in your brain.
---
Something was wrong, you could feel it. There wasn’t anything tangible that set the paranoia off, no action or word was spoken that would stoke your fear. You shouldn't feel this way, but the pit in your stomach wouldn’t go away.
You brushed it off, the death of Nat and Tony had shaken you, especially with them being so close together. That had to be why there was a lump in your throat that wouldn’t go away. It had to be why you were imagining that Steve hadn’t been able to look you in the eyes for two weeks now. Or why he would brush you off when you’d try to grab his hand or hold onto him for comfort. None of those things were happening, you were just imagining them.
But even as you were thinking it, you knew it was pure delusion. You could read the writing on the wall.
Steve had been off the moment he returned from retrieving the stone. You’d been so wrapped up in losing Nat, that you never lingered on the implications that could have for the future of your relationship. There had been some complications and Steve and Tony had to go farther back to get the Tesseract. If you’d had a clearer mind, you would’ve understood the distant look in Steve’s eyes.
He’d seen her, Peggy. That sighting was all it took to give him doubts. You never confronted him, of course, too cowardly to face that your relationship was crumbling. You loved Steve, you'd stuck by his side for four years, enduring the worst so you could keep him. The thought that it would've all been for nothing was terrifying. So instead you tucked yourself into bed every night, promising you’d bring it up the next day, only for the cycle to repeat.
Most days you awoke hoping this had all been a terrible nightmare, but that never happened.
‘Just one last thing, and then everything can go back to normal,’ you told yourself. Steve, Sam, Bucky, and Bruce were all outside, a little ways away from the small home Pepper had. Steve was going to return the stones, and then this whole thing with Thanos would finally be put to rest.
You were at the sink, handwashing the same five dishes. It was therapeutic to have something to focus on. It kept your mind off of thoughts that you’d done your hardest to shove into the darkest recesses of your mind. Tears pricked at your eyes and your grip on the ceramic cup tightened. You clenched your jaw, inhaling then sharply exhaling.
‘Don’t cry, not here.’
Morgan and Pepper were somewhere nearby, their voices filtering into the kitchen from somewhere deeper in the house. You wouldn’t want either of them to walk in on you having a breakdown. Because if so, then you’d have to explain why you were sobbing in the middle of the kitchen. It would legitimize your fears, making the inevitable end of your relationship real.
By chance you glanced up, seeing Sam and Bucky standing with each other, but no Steve. Their backs were to you as they looked at something you couldn't quite see. A moment later Sam walked forward, slowly and almost unsure.
A glint of metal in the light caught your eye, causing you to drop the glass in your hand. The shield. Steve’s shield. You could make out the bold, red, white, and blue coloring with the large star in the center. Even from this distance, it stuck out like a sore thumb.
'No, no, no, no--'
Panic surged through your body, the lump in your throat getting worse. You could hardly breathe as you forced the door open, rushing outside. The cold air hit your face, making your hair whip around. Clumsily you ran down the steps of the porch, bare feet touching green grass.
Closer now you could see an old man. Sam and Bucky were with him, helping him get into a car. The air was knocked out of your lungs and you nearly fell over. Tears broke through the damn you’d created, staining your cheeks red and splotchy. You inhaled sharply, gasping for air.
The old man was Steve. You stood there like a fish gasping for air as you realized the man you’d loved had abandoned you without so much as a word. It was only after the car was out of sight that your mind fully processed what had happened.
Bucky and Sam turned, seeing you standing there completely still, the only noise you could make was a choked sob.
'He left. He just--'
  ---
You opened your eyes, grabbed the mug of cold hot chocolate, and walked towards the sink. The drink poured out of the cup and down the drain, washed away with warm water. In complete silence, you stood there with your head in your hands. The breath you’d been holding left your mouth, slowly. A few stray tears lingered, and you scrubbed your face, trying to destroy the evidence of your crying.
A knock on your front door chased away the silence. It was startling, pulling you out of your melancholic state. You straightened your back, hands smoothing your clothes and hair as you walked to the door.
In and out.
You let out one last breath before opening the door.
Bucky Barnes stood on the other side, his previously long hair cut short, more like the style he wore back in the 40s. He was dressed in simple jeans and a t-shirt. His metal arm poked out from the sleeve of his leather jacket causing it to gleam in the dim lighting. A large grin lit up his face, making his ever-tired blue eyes brighter than usual. He held a grocery bag in his dominant hand and leaned nonchalantly against your doorway.
“I thought we’d try our hand at making something for once instead of ordering out,” he said. A tentative smile blossomed on your face, stepping aside for Bucky to freely enter the apartment. He’d started coming by two weeks after Steve left, mumbling something about not wanting you to have to be alone. Though you both knew he needed the company as much as you.
“Oh, you might regret that Barnes. I don’t think either of us has the natural talent to cook,” you said, following him into the kitchen. He took off his jacket, setting it on the back of one of your chairs.
“I’ll have you know I make a mean batch of pancakes,” he said as he pulled grocery items out of the bag.
“That doesn't mean shit. Everyone knows that waffles are superior,” you smugly said. Bucky rolled his eyes, shaking his head as his lips pressed into a thin line.
“What? Not even close, waffles are so hard and difficult to chew, pancakes are so soft and fluffy,” he said.
“Waffles are fluffy too!”
“Not like pancakes!” Bucky fired right back.
“Besides, waffles are not hard, you just always burn them,” you said.
“That was one time!”
The two of you continued to playfully banter, poking and prodding each other with quips as you cooked in your tiny kitchen. It was a relief to not have your thoughts constantly wander to Steve every five seconds. At some point he melted away completely, leaving only you and Bucky in the candlelight glow of your apartment. At some point, he'd become your rock, the one thing keeping you from going completely adrift. The time spent with Bucky was an escape, a chance for you to pretend you hadn't been completely shattered.
You smiled at a stupid joke he'd made, a sarcastic quip snapped at him like a whip. You both sat on your couch, eating the food that had taken far longer than necessary to make. But you weren't mad, in fact, you hoped the raging storm outside would be enough excuse for him to stay the night. If only to avoid the feeling of drowning that always followed Bucky's absence.
Yet you couldn't ignore the flutter of your heart or the lightheaded feeling whenever Bucky laughed. You didn't acknowledge it, simply relishing in the moments spent together. The hole Steve had left behind slowly filled each day Bucky smiled at you like that.

Pietro’s P.O.V
A grunt escaped my lips as a sharp pain shot through my ribs. Immediately, my eyes opened as I lay on the ground. It took my eyes a moment to adjust to the surrounding darkness. And once they did, I grew more confused.
What the hell happened?
My surrounding became clearer the more aware I became. The scent of pines reached my nose. The grass and dirt under my legs as I slowly sat down. The flutter memory of sweet lips on m-
The moment that thought entered my mind, I became painfully aware of the absence of warmth her closeness provided me as we fell from the sky. I scanned my surrounding but found no trace of her. Too fast, and too early, I stood up, but the moment my legs straightened under me, they gave up. Quickly, I took a hold of the nearest tree. I took a deep breath as the dizziness left my body.
I looked down at myself and was not surprised to find myself bleeding through m shirt. I shrugged nonchalantly.
It would heal.
But she wouldn't, something whispered at the back of my mind, and worry swallowed me whole. She could be hurt. No, she could be dead.
Alarms flared in my mind. Ignoring the pain in my leg, I gave one step then another until I was running the fastest I could with blood running down my thigh from something that had stabbed the flesh.
Every second that passed without seeing her, conjured images of her lifeless body laying in my arms. The images were strangely familiar and made my heart ache.
She had to be somewhere around. But she wasn't. My breaths became erratics as panic flooded my system. She wasn't here.
I put my hands on my knees and took a deep breath. Panicking wouldn't help me find her, but fuck, if the thought of losing her made my insides twist painfully. After a painful deep breath, I straightened and made to move, but the sound of branches snapping above my head made me halt.
I looked up and there she was, hanging like a damn doll from the highest point, the only thing keeping her afloat being the fabric of her shirt stuck in the branches. I felt my heart stop beating for a second as I couldn't discern from where I was if she was still breathing.
With shaky feet, I started climbing. My leg was in vigorous pain, but at least it had stopped bleeding. The higher I got, the less I could feel my leg, but that didn't stop me.
Nothing would.
Not again.
I immediately grew confused, where did that come from?
I shook my head to clear my thought. It didn't matter, I had a mission, and couldn't get distracted over concussion thoughts.
When I finally reached her, it was like being punched in the lungs. Her soft hair was coated with blood that ran down her face and chest. Bruises and scratches adorned her ghostly pale skin. A big patch of blood on her shirt caught my attention, I couldn't see the wound, but in the way it wouldn't stop leaking blood, I knew it had to be serious.
I couldn't distinguish if the movement of her chest was the breeze or her breathing, and that terrified me. As fast as I could, I crawled along the bough of the three to get as close to her as possible. I placed my hands around her waist and slowly tugged her towards me. The branches holding her uptight released her, and before she could fall, I pulled her ice-cold limp body to my chest. I didn't have time to check if she was alive, it was getting dark, and I needed to find help as fast as possible. Or that's what I convinced myself of because I knew if she was dead, I wouldn't survive it.
With her safely secured in my arms, I descended as fast as I could, avoiding making sudden movements that could worsen her wounds.
Once on the ground, I repositioned her body, one arm behind her knees and the other behind her shoulders, so I could move faster, and keep an eye on her.
I never had an issue with my healing, it was mostly fast, but it did take some time, something I didn't have right now. My leg was fucked, and I couldn't run, so I walked, and sprinted for as long as I could manage.
Darkness surrounded us as the sun faded away, bringing coldness in its absence. I kept walking, I didn't know where, I just walked. Seconds turned into minutes, and minutes into hours. We were lost, and she was hurt, and I couldn't do anything for her more than the stupid tourniquet I made a while ago.
At this point, my leg was completely useless. I knew a little rest would heal it enough, but there was no time. I was afraid time had already run out, and that the girl in my arms was anything more than a body.
It was so dark I didn't see the void in front of us. Grunts escaped my lips as we rolled downhill. I tightened my arms around my girl and didn't let go. I tried to slow us down by gripping onto something, we were going too fast to be able to make out anything but the pain of our descent.
Before I knew it, we reached the bottom. For a moment, I just lay there. My ears were ringing and my head hurt. I must have hit it with something.
A tiny whine woke me up from my disoriented state. I held my breath and waited. The body over me stirred, and a painful moan escaped her lips.
My body protested as I sat down, avoiding moving her as much as I could. Slowly, I moved her battered body, so she was resting in my lap. With delicacy, I didn't know I possessed, I cupped her face. The moonlight allowed me enough light to see her gorgeous eyes slowly peel open.
Y/n's P.O.V
Back when I was in the asylum, darkness would be the first and last thing I would see. I guess, in a way, it was a form of torture. One they knew worked wonders on me, especially before they did procedures on me.
I didn't know it then. They feared me. They were so scared they didn't dare touch me before chaining me in the dark, because they knew what the darkness did to me. They made me weak so they could torture me. The warm-up, I think they would call it.
I have to say, they really knew what they were doing. Leaving me in complete darkness for hours before they came to fetch me, gave my mind millions of possibilities to imagine what they would do to me next. Not knowing what they were going to do to me, made everything worse. Torturing me wasn't enough, they had to break me.
And they did, for many years they succeeded. But they never foresaw the variable that is called Pietro. I wish I could say he mended me and put me back together, but that would be a lie. You couldn't mend something that would break every day. So no, he didn't fix me, but he didn't have to, because he did something better. Pietro Maximoff gave me something to look forward to every day. So when he left, my world collapsed, and it was like i never left that place to begin with.
So when I opened my eyes to complete darkness being held by him, I knew I had to be dreaming, because Pietro Maximoff was no longer mine.
I was sprawled in his lap, his hand cupping my cheek as he absently caressed my skin. I tried to sit down, but the sharp pain that shot through my ribs and stomach made me cry out in pain and panic. I hadn't realized when I first woke up, but I was now acutely aware of my wounds. A sob left my lips, as the skin around my wound stretched.
“It's okay. I've got you” Pietro croaked, his other hand stroking my hair as he whispered sweet nothings in my ear.
“It hurts, Piet.”
“I know, scumpul meu. I know” His hold on me tightened as he rocked us back and forth. It really is bittersweet, that even after everything we've gone through, the only time he can hold me is when I'm on the brink of death.
“We really need to stop meeting like this” I humorlessly laughed. I really hated this, and after all I've gone through, I desperately needed a break. Wong would have a field day hearing this story, I couldn't wait to tell him all bout Pietro again. He might act uninterested, but he loved the gossip I brought to the sanctum. I smiled at the thought. God, I missed them so much.
“No, no, stay awake” I felt his finger brushing through my hair. I hadn't even realized I had closed them. “Please don't die on me” He begged, his mouth on my forehead. I was half passed out, but I couldn't help the snort that left me. If only he knew.
“Oh, believe me, this is not the way I'll die” I assured him, just before consciousness slipped through my fingers.
Pietro's P.O.V
“FUCK! No, no, wake up” I could hear the panic in my voice, but I didn't care. My hands were shaking so much, it would've been impossible to check her pulse. I rapidly lowered my head to her chest and when I heard her heartbeat, I almost fainted with relief. Without thinking, I gathered her in my arms and simply hugged her for what felt like hours.
This was the first time in the day when I knew she was alive. She was badly hurt and lost way too much blood, but she was alive.
The adrenaline wore off ages ago, but out of nowhere, energy surged through my body. The pain was still there, but it was more manageable than it had ever been. I have no idea what just happened, but it didn't matter.
With her delicate body safely tucked in my arms, I stood up and walked as fast as I could without wounding her any further. Kilometers of trees and green surrounded us, making me lose hope that I could find a place where she could rest. I looked down at my arms and noted her skin had gotten paler, and she had started shivering. I brought her closer to my chest in hopes she would absorb some of my heat.
I really had no idea where I was going, and I needed to figure it out now. Earlier I can swear I saw some birds flying north, if we follow that route, maybe we-
I stopped in my tracks and looked at my surroundings. We were the only people here, I was sure of that, but deep down I knew there was someone with us. Out of nowhere, an icy feeling overcame me, it was weird, like cold water. I absentmindedly remembered someone describing the feeling as 'having a bucket filled with ice thrown over your head'. I shook my head. I was getting paranoid.
I resumed my walking, but suddenly, as if being pulled by a rope, I headed west. I had no reason to head that way, but call it desperation or familiarity, I went with my instinct. And just when I thought I was wrong, I made a turn between some thick logs, and a wood cabin appeared in front of my eyes.

The feeling that Steve felt the moment he heard Sam’s voice in his ear saying “On your left” felt surreal. When he then saw the man, along with Bucky, and then Wanda, he felt a weight he had long forgotten about lift off his shoulders. Pure relief.
He didn’t get to properly interact and catch up with them until Thanos and his army were finally defeated. He got to hug Bucky and Sam first, the pair immediately asking how he was, what they’d missed out on, but before Steve could go into any details, he heard Wanda. Crying.
“Y/N? Y/N where are you? Where’s my sister? сестра?!” She was calling among the crowds of hundreds of soldiers and people catching up, also looking for friends and family. Steve followed her voice, going in search of her, Bucky and Sam following after him until they found her, seeing she’d found Clint and was begging him for answers, though he was lost on what to tell her, until Steve approached, reaching his arm out, signalling with his hand to Clint to hand her over. Clint turned her by her shoulder so she faced him, her eyes wide and terrified. “Steve, where’s my sister?” She demanded. “She’s not here- is she dead? Has she died?”
“Wanda, breathe.” Steve assured her, his hands holding onto her shoulders to ground her. “She’s fine. Perfectly fine, I promise. I know exactly where she is, and I’m going to take you straight to her, alright?” He assured her, getting a vigorous nod from the woman in response. He tucked her under his arm, keeping her close and he started to walk with her away from the battlefield the closest available vehicle, and as he got her seated in the passenger seat, he wasn’t too surprised to see Bucky and Sam not far behind, getting in the backseat without a word.
“Why wasn’t she there, Steve?” Wanda asked as he started the car, starting to drive. “Is she hurt? Did something happen?” She asked.
“Wanda, she’s fine, I promise.” Steve assured her.
“Steve.” She growled. He glanced at her from the corner of his eye, seeing her panic was turning into pure frustration with him at him being vague with her. “Why wasn’t she there?”
“I told her to stay back.” He finally answered. “I wanted her to be safe and away from any danger. With how things turned out with Thanos showing up- I’m glad I did.” He explained, missing the point where he had actually argued with you about it- finally convincing you with the main point of the possibility the plan failed and you ended up out there on the base looking for a miracle all for nothing, only to trudge back, and how it would be easier for you emotionally if that happened for him to come back and tell you the results. There were several smaller reasons, but in the end, whatever he pulled out his ass as an excuse, he’s glad he did.
Sam cleared his throat, breaking Wanda’s suspicious glare of Steve. “So, mind telling us any major events we’ve missed?” He inquired, hoping to ease the tension, but with Steve now becoming more tense, he realised quickly that he just accidentally stepped into dangerous territory, and in no doubt- it involved Wanda, and more importantly, the subject of the woman’s anxiety- her older sister.
“Well… I should give you a heads up. Y/N and I live together.” Steve started with. The silence in the air other than the rumble of the car’s engine was worse than if Wanda was just yelling at him- Steve had dealt with his fair share of arguments with the eldest Maximoff in the past five years, especially in these last few months with tensions running at an all time high, so he was sure he could handle Wanda, but the silence? It was the worst.
“How many bedrooms?” Bucky spoke up.
“Buck-”
“Two. Two bedrooms.” Steve quickly interrupted Sam’s scorning. “Two bedrooms, one bathroom, closed floor plan in a nice part of the city. We got it together a few months ago.” Steve explained, talking just to fill the air at this point.
“How many bedrooms was the last apartment you two shared?” Wanda asked, the tone in her voice taunting him. She knew.
“...One.” He admitted. That silence returned. “We started seeing each other a few months after… we relied on each other and… we just clicked.” He admitted. He couldn’t see it, his eyes too focussed on the streets as he entered the centre of the city, over crowded by people reuniting with their loved ones and running to look for people, but Sam and Bucky watched Wanda sink into her seat a little, her head resting, rolling over to look at the blond.
“You’ve been looking after my big sister? Keeping her safe? Keeping her happy?” She asked, her voice now a lot softer. Her tone made Steve relax as well.
“I’ve tried my best and intend to keep trying.” He promised her, a faint smile appearing on Wanda’s face. The silence now was a lot nicer. Bucky and Sam were able to sit back in their seats, not scared that Wanda was gonna throttle Steve. “Wanda? I know this is all sudden, but…” Steve hesitated to speak, but eventually gained the courage. “Do I have your permission to marry her?”
“Have you been waiting till you got us back just to ask her that?” Sam asked.
“Honestly, yeah.” Steve admitted, everyone in the car sharing a light chuckle.
“Yes. You have my blessing. My sister isn’t an idiot- if she’s chosen to stay beside you for so long and live with you, you must be special to her.” Wanda granted.
Eventually Steve parked the car on the side of the street, everyone piling out, and Wanda looked up at the building Steve parked outside of- he wasn’t lying, it was a nice building, on the nice side of town. She felt a tap on her shoulder, and Wanda turned to see Steve, offering her a set of keys. “Third floor, on the left.” He told her. She grinned, grabbing the keys and dashing up the stairs the three men not too far behind. Wanda reached the floor, finding the door and knocking on it with no hesitation, before waiting impatiently. She heard shuffling, before a bolt unlocked and the door opened.
“Wanda?” Was the first thing out your mouth, absorbing that she was actually in front of you- a few cuts and bruises from a fight, but there. In person. Alive. The back of your eyes burned as you reached your arms out to her. “моя драгоценная сестра!” You sobbed, grabbing your sister and pulling her as close as possible.
Close as possible, being the keyword there.
Wanda felt the obstacle stopping her in being as close as she could to her sister, pulling away to see what it was, and was greeted by the comically large bump attached to you. She gaped at it for a moment, before her eyes met yours. “You’re having a baby?”
“Babies.” Steve corrected as he came up the stairs, Sam and Bucky, who had frozen on the stairs at the sight of the eldest Maximoff heavily pregnant. “It’s twins.”
“Twins? Like…” Wanda’s words caught in her throat, as you sadly smiled and nodded. You looked at Bucky and Sam still on the stairs, before back at your sister.
“Let’s all go inside, stop crowding the hall.” You told them, stepping aside for Wanda to come in, having to shuffle past your bump before Steve took over holding the door for Bucky and Sam. Once back in side, you hugged your sister again. “I’ve missed you so, so much. I wanted to be there for your return but the base is so far away, and with them being due next month and the doctor saying twins like to come early-” You rambled before Wanda stopped you, holding your cheeks on her hands and smiling.
“Don’t be, I understand, you have to look after yourself and your babies. I also understand why Steve had been adamant on you staying behind… also, it was for the best. I’m glad you weren’t there.” Wanda admitted, though your smile dropped as you turned to Steve alarmed, looking for answers.
“Thanos from the past found his way through and tried to snap again, but this time snap every living thing. We managed to stop him and he’s completely gone now… We’ll go into the gritty details later, okay?” Steve explained.
“I take later means when stress might not make me go into early labour?” You asked, Steve grinning and nodding. “Thought so. Fair enough. The longer little Pietro and James stay inside the better.”
“Pietro?” Wanda’s head snapped around at the name, quickly followed by the same reaction from Sam and Bucky. “Your naming your babies Pietro and James?”
“I’m jealous.” Sam quickly added.
“Pietro Oleg and James Samuel. If that makes you feel better.” Steve added on, getting a smile from the man in response.
“Oleg? Like our dad?” Wanda noticed and you nodded. “I’m so happy that I’m going to be here to meet my nephews.”
“And you better not go anywhere anytime soon my baby sister.” You told her, holding her close. Steve smiled to himself, before nudging his two friends to the kitchen.
“You two get comfy, we’ll do dinner.” Steve called.
“We are?” Sam asked, making Bucky laugh as Wanda pulled you to the living room to get comfy and begin catching up.
Hope you like it! If you have any questions, please send them in!

Steve Rogers x Reader: Peter's Admissions Consultant
Warnings: Cheating and maybe some language.
To say the Avenger's Tower was huge would be an understatement. The first time (y/n) ever stepped foot into the building, she somehow found herself taking an elevator ride upstairs instead of down. She managed to catch a glimpse of a shirtless and sweaty Sam Wilson coming out of the training room.
The young woman felt her heartbeat rapidly increase at the sight of the handsome man as she took a couple of steps backward. As she tiptoed away hoping that he didn't see her, she bumped into another shirtless body. Spinning around and looking up, she found herself face-to-face with Steve Rogers. The First Avenger.
“Hey, are you looking for someone?” Steve gently smiled down at her. He knew that the tower was big and it wasn’t out of the ordinary for someone to get lost. However, most of the time they didn’t make it all the way up to the training room. She must have been walking around a lot if she got up here.
He started to wonder if this was one of the girls that Bucky brought home. Bucky was known for going out late at night and bringing home very pretty women. The girl that was standing in front of Steve was no exception.
He had always been jealous of the way that Bucky had always been able to pick up women without a second thought. It was just who he was.
“I’m looking for Peter Parker. This is the address he gave me, but I didn’t know that he actually lived here at the Avenger Tower.” (y/n) smiled at the ground. She was doing absolutely everything to keep her gaze on anything else but him. The last thing she wanted was for Steve to catch her staring at his perfectly sculpted abs.
Steve tilted his head to the side wondering how she really knew about Peter's life, but that really wasn’t any of his business. He wasn’t sure how much she knew about Peter’s personal life so she decided to play it safe.
“He doesn’t live here. He lives with his aunt in Queens.” Steve promptly responded without missing a beat. “He just works here. I’m sure he’s down in the lab. I could take you down there if you’d like?”
“Oh no. I don’t mean to bother you. I'm sure I can find it on my own.” (y/n) immediately shook her head. The last thing she wanted was to throw off the morning routine of a super soldier. He might have been leaving to save the world at that very moment before she bumped into him.
There was no way she was going to be able to find the lab if she hadn't already found it by now.
Steve chuckled at how cute she was. Most woman loved attention from him, but it seemed like she shied away from his attention.
“It’s no bother at all. I need to speak to Tony anyway and I’m sure he’s down in that lab with the kid. Give me a minute to grab a shirt and I’ll walk you down there.” Stever wasn’t going to take no for an answer.
She nodded and patiently waited for him in the hallway as he walked a couple of rooms down to the laundry room to grab something to throw on. After changing, he gently ushered (y/n) toward the elevator and the two of them rode it down a couple of floors in complete silence. He had so many questions that he wanted to ask, but he decided to keep them to himself.
The two of them found Tony and Peter in the lab busy with whatever they were working on at the moment. Lately, Peter had been improving the mixture that was used to create his webs. It was going pretty well and he was happy with the progress he had made over the past coupe of days.
“Hey Peter. Hey Mr. Tony.” (y/n) happily chirped and Steve could tell that she relaxed greatly by the sound of her heart rate slowing down. That told him that the two of them were pretty close on some level. “This place is huge. I got lost looking for you.”
“Sorry about that.” Peter offered an apologetic smile. “You could have texted me.”
“I did. And called. Multiple times.” (y/n) responded. It didn’t seem like she was too upset by Peter not responding to her.
“You sure did.” Peter pulled out his phone and looked down at it to see multiple messages and texts from her. “I’m sorry about that (y/n). I got too wrapped up in my work.”
“You don’t have to apologize. Mr. Rogers helped me find you down here. What are you working on?” She asked, walking toward him and gesturing toward all the little nuts and bolts surrounding him.  Now Steve’s interest has peaked. He wanted to know if (y/n) really knew who Peter was.
“I’m just working on the mixture that I use to make my webs. One broke last week and I fell off a 200-story skyscraper. I figured I needed some upgrades.” Peter responded as if it was no big deal and (y/n) nodded as if it was something they talked about pretty often. So they were closer than he thought.
“Since you’re here, I guess that means I’m taking a work break. See you in a little bit Mr. Stark.” Peter said before getting out of his seat and leading (y/n) toward the library.
“Is that his girlfriend?” Steve turned and asked Tony who had been working on some upgrades for the Tower’s security system.
“Who?” Tony glanced up at him for a split second before looking back down at what he was doing. “I didn’t know he had a girlfriend.”
“The girl that was just in here. Is that Parker’s girlfriend?”
“You can’t be serious.” Tony deeply chucked. “There’s no way a woman like that would date Parker. He’s practically a child.”
“So what are they doing together?” Maybe he needed to take a page out of Clint’s book and hide out in the vents for a little while to see what was going on in the Tower.
“Oh. I think I understand now.” Tony sat down his tools and leaned back in his seat. He was smirking at Steve and he did not like that one bit.
“What do you understand?” Steve nervously rocked back and forth on his heels. This was not the type of conversation he wanted to be having with Tony. The two of them were not close enough to talk about women this way.
“You’ve got a thing for Peter’s admissions consultant,” Tony smirked. He had never seen Steve interested in a woman before and this had caught his attention. “Too bad, she has a boyfriend.”
“I wasn’t interested in her love life.” Steve scoffed hoping that his face wasn’t as red as it felt.
“Sure you weren’t. Then why all the questions?”
“I just thought it was weird that someone was walking around the tower and I didn’t know who it was.”
“There was no reason for you to know. I knew she was coming and that’s enough. I run this ship Capsicle. Let’s not forget that.”
“Yeah yeah Tony.” Steve dismissively waved his hand at Tony before trudging out of the room. “You won’t let anyone forget that.”
He found his way to the training room for the second time that day. It was because he knew that is where Natasha would be. She was one of the few people in the tower he didn’t feel weird about asking things like this.
Sure, he thought (y/n) was cute and maybe he would like to get to know her better, but he had to find some sort of common ground first. It had been so long since he had spoken to a woman in a romantic way.
After being around (y/n) for the next couple of months, there was something about the way that (y/n) interacted with not just Peter, but the entire team that made his heart flutter. She treated the entire team as if they were normal people and not like they were the Avengers. It was hard for them to have friends outside of the compound who didn’t treat them as if they were placed on a pedestal.
Steve could tell that (y/n) really wanted Peter to achieve his goals. He dreamed of attending one of the best universities in New York and (y/n) was doing everything in her power to make that happen.
The two of them had been working on his resume, practicing his interview skills, and writing admissions essays. (y/n) wasn’t cheap at all and Tony heard she was the best so he didn’t mind paying for her at all. As long as Peter was happy.
Over the course of Peter’s senior year, (y/n) had come over at least three times a week. And every time that she was going to be over, Steve made his schedule empty. He wasn’t sure how to describe his feelings, but Natasha smirked and said that maybe he liked her. And maybe Natasha was right. He would not admit that out loud. Especially when the word of the street was that (y/n) had a boyfriend. A very well-known boyfriend who was currently running for mayor.
However, Steve had heard absolutely nothing about the extent of their relationship. So, he decided to ask Peter. Out of everyone in this house, he would be the last person to judge him and at least answer his questions honestly.
He fixed him a glass of cold milk with chocolate chip cookies and found him sitting alone in one of the common areas playing a video game. Steve was surprised that he wasn’t down in the lab with Tony.
“Hey, Peter.” He softly spoke not to startle the kid and sat the snack down beside him. “How is everything with college going? I figured you had been working hard so I brought you a little treat.”
“Thank you and everything is going great Mr. Rogers. All thanks to (y/n). She’s the best.” He replied. “My application and essays were good enough that they’re inviting me back for an interview next month. So we're going to be having a lot of interview practice these next couple of weeks.”
This was exactly the state that Steve wanted Peter in. He was coherent enough to answer Steve's questions, but too engrossed in his video game to really care or remember what exactly Steve was asking him.
“That’s great Peter.” He truly was happy for the kid. After everything he had gone through, he deserved the world. “So I take it that (y/n) is working wonders.”
“Yeah. We were supposed to have a secession tonight, but she said that I deserved a break. Which could be true. Maybe she needs a break too. She’s been over her almost every day for the past three weeks. I think something else has been going on though.”
“Mmhhh.” Steve raised an eyebrow and leaned back into the couch. This was going to be a good conversation. “What’s been going on?”
“Sometimes I can tell she’s been crying. Like she’ll show up and my senses can tell that she cried before arriving. Or when our session is almost over, it seems like she’s trying to hold back tears.”
“What do you think she’s crying about?”
“Her boyfriend. From what I’ve picked up, he’s not very nice to her.”
“Not nice in what way?”
“He always cancels their dates and says that he has to stay at the office late, but he goes and sees other women. I think she has an idea that he isn’t faithful, but she doesn’t want to admit it.”
“How did you find this out?”
“I know he cheats on her. I saw that with my own eyes, but every now and then she’ll leave her phone on the table while she goes to the bathroom and I’ve seen the messages she sends to her friends. They all want her to leave him, but she won’t do it.”
“You saw him?” Steve was fully invested in this conversation now.
“Yeah. I shouldn’t have done it. It wasn’t my place, but I couldn’t help myself. I needed to know. I went to the office and the bastard didn’t lie about being there, but he wasn’t alone.” Peter shuddered at the thought. (y/n) was such a genuine soul and deserved so much more.
“Have you told her?”
“No. Do you think I should? I didn’t think it was my place and then she would know that I was snooping around in her personal life.”
“I wouldn’t say anything about it Pete.” Steve didn’t want him to say anything because he was going to handle this his own way.
“She’s amazing at what she does and I would hate to lose the progress that we’ve made because I couldn’t mind my business. I can’t imagine doing what I’m doing with someone else.”
“I completely understand that.” Steve nodded, taking in everything that had heard.
The next week, (y/n) quickly walked into the tower trying to keep her head down and keep from sniffling too loudly. It was hard to hide things from a bunch of superheroes when they all had super senses. She plopped down at their usual table and began pulling out her notes. The days were dwindling down and soon Peter wouldn’t need her anymore. She was really going to miss everyone.
“Hey (y/n), is everything alright?” Steve walked into the kitchen as if he had no idea that (y/n) wasn’t going to be there. He had more or less memorized their studying schedule. However, he knew that (y/n) wasn’t going to find Peter.
“Yeah. Everything is fine.” She whispered surprised that she had let it go this far. She couldn’t stop the tears, but today was hard. It had been one of her hardest days in a while. Today it was confirmed that her longtime boyfriend had been cheating on her for the majority of the time that they had been together. And she happened to find out in a very public way. “Is Peter okay?”
“He's sick. I figured he would have told you before you came all the way over here.”
“It’s totally fine. If he isn’t feeling well, I’m sure that he hasn’t been on his phone much today. I’ll text him and let him know that I stopped by.”
“I would have let you know, but I don’t have your number…” Steve trailed off hoping that (y/n) was picking up what he was putting down.
“Steve Rogers.” (y/n) giggled through her tears and finally looked up to meet his eyes. “Is this your attempt to ask for my number?”
“No. I was just saying that if anything comes up, I would be able to let you know.” He scratched the back of his neck, happy to see that (y/n) didn’t take offense to him basically asking for his number.
“Well, I have Peter’s number. And Tony’s. I believe I have Wanda’s as well.”
“I hate to point this out (y/n), but look where that got you.” Steve jokingly rolled his eyes. “None of them texted you and you’re here to help Peter, except there’s no Peter.”
“I don’t mind. I’m just trying to soak up as much time with everyone as I possibly can. I don’t know what I’m going to do when Pete no longer needs me.”
“You can always come by and visit. None of us are going to stop you. We all like having you around.”
“Thank you Steve. I really appreciate that.” (y/n) smiled up at him, but quickly looked back down at the ground. She always felt her heartbeat racing when Steve looked at her, but she tried to ignore that feeling because it always made her feel like she was cheating. She chuckled at the thought. How could she be cheating when he was doing who knows what in his office?
“What’s going on with you?” He gestured for her to take a seat so that the two of them could talk.
“I don’t want to dump everything on you, Steve.” She looked down at her hands picking with her nails.
“If you just need someone to rant to, I’m here. If you’re looking for advice, I’m here.” Steve offered. “Whatever you need (y/n), I’m here.”
(y/n) nodded and immediately began telling him everything that had been going on with her now ex boyfriend. When she left, Steve didn’t know what had come over him. The only thought he had right now was anger.
Blind rage.
***
He wanted Leo to be as hurt as (y/n) was right now. Or was his name Levi? Lee? Luke? It didn’t matter what the little fucker’s name was at this moment. All he knew was that he was going to be sorry he was even born.
Steve found himself walking down the streets of New York toward Luca’s home. He knew that walking around this late wasn’t safe, but he didn’t care. If anyone tried to stop him, he would put them in their place without even thinking twice about it. When he got to Luca’s home, he noticed that his car wasn’t sitting outside of his house.
Perfect.
These were not the types of actions that Steve was known for. Maybe this was something that Bucky would have done, but never Steve. In all honesty, Steve thought it felt good to go against what had been ingrained in him.
All he had ever known was being America’s Golden Boy, but now none of that mattered. He was doing something that would make him feel better.
Steve quietly sneaked into the house and made himself comfortable on the couch. It didn’t matter what time he came back. Steve was going to be sitting here waiting for him when he did.
***
She stormed into the tower knowing exactly where she was going. She wasn’t here for Peter today. FRIDAY was so used to her presence in the tower that she didn’t even alert Tony that she had arrived.
Walking into the common room, she found Peter sitting about five feet away from the tv playing a video game with Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes.
“Where is he?” She growled knowing that he couldn’t be far from his two best friends.
“Hey (y/n),” Peter paused the game and slowly turned around to face her. “I didn’t realize that we had a meeting today. I double-checked the schedule, but maybe I’m wrong.”
“We don’t have a meeting today Pete.” (y/n) smiled gently at him, but her face hardened when she saw a figure behind them. The three boys turned to see Steve standing there with a pleased look on his face.
“I’ve never seen her angry before,” Sam whispered to Bucky. “I wonder what he did.”
“I don’t want to find out.” Bucky quietly whispered back. He went through almost every conversation he had with Steve in the past week trying to remember if he had let anything slip about what was going on.
“I didn’t ask you to do that Steve.” She was so angry that she couldn’t even see straight. But she didn’t know if she was angry because of what Steve had done or if she was angry because of what she had put up with for the past couple of months.
“You didn’t have to ask me (y/n). I would’ve done it no matter what.”
“Would you have done it if I had begged you not to do anything?” (y/n) started pacing. She didn’t know what to do. There was no way that anyone would be able to tie it back to them, but still. This wasn't the way that things got handled.
“More than likely.” Steve shrugged as if it was no big deal.
“What did you do?” Bucky turned to look at his best friend in horror.
“I mean it wasn’t that bad. I just-”
“Stop.” (y/n) sternly said placing her hands over her ears. “I don’t want to know anything.”
“I want to know everything.” Sam paused the game and turned his attention toward the two of them.
“Look (y/n),” Peter turned to look at his advisor. “The guy isn’t dead. He may be a little rattled, but he’s going to think twice about cheating on the next girl that he’s with.”
“My sweet Peter.” (y/n) turned to look at him with tears in her eyes. “I can’t believe you agree with the way things went down. I didn’t think you were one for condoning violence.”
“I’m not one to condone cheating either,” Peter whispered trying not to meet her eyes. He hated seeing her upset. “I think I speak for all of us when I say that you are one of the most genuine people that we have ever met. I would do anything absolutely if you asked me. No questions asked. Especially if that person wronged you.”
“I completely agree. But, this sounds like a conversation that the three of you need to have alone.” Sam added on and left the room followed by Bucky and Peter.
“So what’d you do to him?” (y/n) asked sitting down on the couch beside Steve. She had calmed down a little bit and was now able to think clearly.
“I’m going to spare you the details, but I can promise you that he will be fine. He’s going with the story that it was a home break-in and I honestly think this is going to help him with the campaign.”
“What made you do it?” (y/n) questioned. She knew what she wanted him to say, but she wasn’t going to put words in his mouth.
“He upset you and I didn’t like that. It wasn’t even something that was thought out. The night after you told me he had been cheating on you, I went over there. He cried if that makes you feel any better.”
“I never saw him cry. Not once.” (y/n) said after a moment of thinking. She wouldn’t admit this out loud, but she was relieved. Even though being cheated on was a terrible feeling that she wouldn’t wish on anyone, maybe now Luca had learned his lesson.
“If I had known that I would have taken a picture for you.” Steve chuckled. “I’m sorry. I should have spoken to you first.”
“No. I’m glad you didn’t.” (y/n) quickly shook her head. Then without even having a second thought about it, she leaned over and placed a soft kiss on Steve’s cheek. “Thank you.”
“I hope you know that you deserve the world. You deserve nothing but good things and if anyone tells you otherwise, let me know. Some people are willing to give you everything and more if you go out looking for them.”
“I don’t think I want to do any more looking for a while.”
“Something tells me you won’t have to look very far.” Steve shyly mumbled back.
“And what do you mean by that Mr.Rogers?” (y/n) raised an eyebrow.
“All I’m saying is that if you’re interested, I would love to take you out on a date. No pressure at all. If you need time to think about it, that’s fine too.”
“Of course, I’d love to go out with you Steve.”

Notes: HI EVERYBODY! This is my first Marvel fanfiction! I wrote fanfics before, but I have always been much more of a reader. After a 1.5 year hiatus, I felt compelled to write again. Hope everyone enjoys this piece. I still am trying to establish myself as a rookie writer.
This is AU and doesn’t fall in any of the MCU timeline. Let’s just assume that the world is currently at peace from Thanos and this is just set in an everyday Avengers timeline. A like, reblog or comment will be deeply appreciated :)
———————————————————————
You woke up with an unnerving feeling in your chest. You wondered why and then you were reminded of the day before. You had confessed to Steve. Yes that Steve, the Steve Rogers. Captain America. Your boss. Your hopeless crush. You joined the Avengers not too long ago. It had been over two years. You were an agent of SHIELD, but more importantly an enhanced individual.
You always had your powers since you were young but hid it to blend in. When you’re 20, you used your powers for the first time to save someone in danger. You ended up on SHIELD’s radar and then recruited into the academy.
You undergone training to become a SHIELD operative under Phil Coulson’s tutelage and was recognised to be an outstanding agent. However, more so often, you were not a stickler for rules and had gone off book several times in operations.
This placed you on a thin line to getting kicked out of the academy, but you always had the backing of Phil who grown a soft spot. You reminded him of his younger days and also his fellow colleague, Melinda May whom put the interests of saving lives at the forefront in their work.
When the Battle of New York happened, you were broken. Mainly because you lost your mentor and your dearest friend. You were teetering on quitting when Phil died in the line of duty. Director Fury pulled you back, reminding you of Phil’s sacrifice and how Phil thought the world of you, feeling that you had much potential to unfold. You continued working under Director Fury’s orders, working on special missions.
When SHIELD was taken down by HYDRA from the inside, you didn’t know who to trust. All you knew was that Director Fury had seemingly been assassinated. You wanted to find out what happened, but plans deviated when you realised you were on HYDRA’s radar. Your powers were of great interest to them and you were wanted. You had to abandon the place you felt like home and went into hiding.
A couple of years later, you resurfaced. You found yourself facing the Avengers while they were on a mission. No you were fighting not against them, instead you stumbled upon them while you were on the run. That’s when you saw Steve Rogers for the first time. It didn’t feel like the first time though.
Perhaps it was because you heard so much about him from Phil that you felt you already knew him. A smile formed on your face when you recalled Phil’s rambling of his love for the war hero. It was one of those moments when you saw him as the real Phil, and not just Agent Coulson- your supervising officer.
A HYDRA agent was going to aim for Steve from a hidden spot and you almost flew in to intervene. You knocked out the agent with your gloved fists engulfed in high density energy. You remembered staring into the sparkling blue eyes of Steve Rogers for the first time. His eyes widened at the sight of you- wondering who you were and what were you doing.
You heard backup coming and the two of you fought off a couple more HYDRA agents together. It was as if you had been working together your whole life, the two of you fought in sync. You covered for him and he did so for you. There was an unspoken synergy that happened between you two. When the last HDYRA agent went down, you two finally looked at each other once more. Panting and out of breath, you hunched over trying to catch your breath.
You heard his footsteps coming closer, as if to check on you. You looked up at him, and he took his helmet off. His crop but luscious blonde locks fell over.
“Hey, are you alright-” You heard his voice for the first time. It was not really; you had seen him before and heard him before. You remembered the video clips that were played in classes at the academy. SHIELD was founded on the legacy of Captain America afterall. But this was different. You heart started to beat wildly, knowing that he was speaking to you.
“Steve, are you alright?” Another voice appeared. It was familiar. You two both spun your heads in the same direction to see a scarlet head emerging in your sight. Natasha Romanoff. You had seen her before back at SHIELD. Phil had worked together with her and Agent Barton several times. You were introduced once to them before as his mentee.
“Who’s that with you?” She spoke once more. You started to panic, what was this situation with you, Captain America and Black Widow? You were supposed to be in hiding from the HYDRA operatives that came to capture you. Should you seek refuge with the Avengers? Would they keep you safe? You were not a hundred percent sure. You felt that you were still safest alone.
That’s why you decided to take flight. Literally. Because with your powers, you managed to push yourself off the ground and into the air, landing far away from where the two avenger members were.
The next time you saw Steve was in your apartment. You came home to see him standing in your kitchen. You dropped your bag of groceries and let out a scream that would have your neighbours appalled. Your powers came out almost immediately in defense and Steve had to duck when a shot of energy aimed at the kitchen cabinet behind him.
He raised both his hands in defense and assured he meant no harm. He explained that Natasha had helped him to track you down. He understood your situation and offered you a place in the Avengers compound. No more hiding and no more fear of surviving.
All previous resistance thrown out of the window, the sincerity in his eyes and voice won you over almost immediately. You knew not to trust people easily, that much Phil has taught you but how could you not when it was Steve Rogers.
So you then found yourself becoming a part of the Avengers. You blended into the group seamlessly, like you were an old-time friend. You had gotten closer to Natasha who was once an intimidating senior agent in your eyes. You became fast friends with Wanda whom you bonded over the love of food. More so of her cooking and you being the taste tester.
Sam and Bucky welcomed you into their group especially when you find yourself the buffer between their bickering. You always went along with Tony Stark’s antics and he saw you as a little sister. Bruce and you have a polite relationship, not having much in common but you still got along with him in the group.
Vision and you have a pretty interesting relationship, you found yourself as a life sensei to him whenever he was curious about the human way of life. You only met Thor a few times but you two had a friendly relationship whenever he visited Earth. He felt like another older brother to you.
Now. Where does that leave Steve Rogers? The man who brought you into this new life. You regarded him as your leader, captain and comrade. You wanted to impress him especially since he offered you a new chance in life. You always made sure you did your best during missions so as not to disappoint him. You wanted to be in his good books. You wanted him to like you as a teammate and maybe more?
You didn’t know when you started to have feelings for the American hero, but you believed it was gradual.
When you saw him in the morning eating disgusting plain oats, you offered to whip up some fluffy blueberry pancakes (which you learnt how to from Wanda). When you see his brows knitted to get his Netflix account created, you chuckled and decided to help the poor guy out. When he found in himself from unwanted attention at Tony’s gatherings, you slid in smoothly between him and the other party, coming up with smooth lies to help him out of an awkward bind.
You didn’t know why you wanted to do all of those things. Were you being nice? Or perhaps you wanted to be nice to him? He was on your mind most of the time. How can I make a good impression? How can I get closer to him? Your mind was always boggling with such thoughts.
Whenever he was in the room, your eyes always wandered off to him. You tried to subtly get closer to him- sitting beside him during movie nights, sitting across him during meetings. It was those little things that made you feel like you could signal your presence to him. You wanted him to notice you just as much you did for him. Of course, these things did not go unnoticed. Unfortunately, not by said man himself but everyone else in your inner circle.
Natasha caught your longing look at Steve one movie night, and she smirked to herself. She nudged your hips the next morning in the kitchen when Steve walked into the room. She gave you an all-knowing smile and your eyes widened in horror. How? You mouthed the word to her, and she just shrugged while looking all smug.
Wanda was the next one to know you both baked together for Valentine’s Day. You two were baking for everyone in the team. You decided to make a special cookie, she noted. One in the shape of a heart and with familiar colours of red, white and blue icing. Steve, Bucky and Sam were walking in from their workout in the gym when they smelt the scent of freshly baked goods.
Sam’s hands were reaching out for your special cookie when you turned your back to wash your hands in the sink. You let out a shrill scream of horror when you saw Sam picking it up and bringing it closer to his lips.
“STOP RIGHT THERE!” The three soldiers almost jumped back at your voice and Sam raised his other hand in surrender. You took your cookie out of his hands and dusted it off as if his touch sullied the baked biscuit.
“This is not yours, Sam. You can have those.” You pointed over to the other batch of cookies. They were all smaller in sizes, in the regular circular shape with generic red and pink icing drawn in heart shapes on the surface.
“What? Then the heck it that cookie for?” Sam retorted, almost offended.
You grinned sheepishly when you directed your eyes at a certain blonde soldier. Your previous bravado shaken as you tried to find your voice to speak. You swore your hands were trembling and you tried hard to not break the palm sized heart shaped cookie in your hands.
“Happy Valentine’s Day, Steve. I uh made this for you.” Yes. You got the words out. The expressions on the faces of the other three people in the room would have been hilarious but they were not in your sight. You only had eyes for one person.
“What? How come he gets a special cookie from the rest of us? Now that’s just discrimination.” Sam quipped. Bucky shook his head like he could not believe how dumb Sam could even be. Wanda had to bite her lips back, when she realised what was going on all along. Oh my dear Y/N…she thought.
“Would you accept my it?” You added nervously when you noticed Steve did not give a response.
“Uh, thank you Y/N. That’s really nice of you.” Steve answered as politely as he usually did and took the cookie from your hands. When Steve just stopped at that response, Bucky looked like he was going to die from the stupidity of the men in the room except for him. Bucky also knew there and then what was happening. He could not believe his best friend was so oblivious.
“Hey, that’s unfair. I want one.” Sam whined almost like a child. Bucky face palmed himself and grunted.
You were a little disappointed at Steve’s response, nice of you? Urgh, you secretly wished he had more to say. Did you put him on a spot in front of his friends? How stupid could you have gotten?
“Fine fine, geez I will make a falcon-themed one for you, You big baby.” You huffed in annoyance, but also to mainly mask your disappointment. You quickly grabbed a piping bag. “Would you like one too, Bucky?” You mustered a smile on your face to make it seem like you were not affected by Steve’s response at all. Bucky gave you a look like he knew- he knew what’s up and he gave you a sorry look.
“Sure doll, I would love one.” Bucky said in hopes of making you feel better. You felt a hand on your shoulder and turned to see Wanda to give you a comforting smile. You fought to hold back the tears welling up in your eyes.
But that was not your actual confession to Steve.———————————————————————
That time came during an Avenger’s game night. The team was playing truth and dare Jenga. It was your turn and you hoped you gotten something that would not be too difficult to do.
“Tell the person across you something that you always wanted to say to them.”
You looked up immediately and were met with cerulean blue eyes. Your breath hitched when you realised who it was.
You cursed in your head and perhaps even muttered it under your breath. You felt the eyes of the rest of your teammates intently on you. After a minute, Tony started to get impatient.
“Come on kid, what do you want to say to Capsicle? There should be plenty right? If not drink up.” Oh boy, if only Tony knew. You looked nervously elsewhere and locked eyes with Natasha beside you. Your eyes then fleet towards Wanda who looked concerned and then to Bucky who almost looked nervous for you. Your legs were getting jumpy and then your hands lunged forward to grab the bottle of whiskey in front of you.
A series of ‘Nos’ came up, but you couldn’t hear them clearly as you drowned down the liquid. It tasted like fire down your throat and it almost burned. You stumbled backwards as you tried to recover your footing.
“Really, Y/N? You rather drink up than say something to Cap?” Tony jested. “By the way, you just drank Thor’s special Asgardian liquor by mistake.”
“What?” You let out a loud exclamation and you turned the bottle to see a flask bottle that you recognised to have been Thor’s.
“Oh boy.” A sudden wave of adrenaline surged through you and you had to close your eyes to gain your bearings once more. You opened your eyes to meet Steve’s eyes once more. You did not know what was happening next. The words left your mouth before you could even formulate it in your head.
“I LIKE YOU SO MUCH!” What was going on? You didn’t mean to say this out loud?! Why were you even saying it? You already drank to pass saying the truth. Why couldn’t you control yourself?
“I REALLY REALLY REALLY LIKE YOU, STEVE ROGERS.” You declared your love once more and you were shocked by your boldness. Everyone else was reeling in their seats as they looked at the situation unfolding in front of them. Tony Stark could be seen muffling his laughter at Y/N’s antic while a blonde soldier, who was at the end of the confession remained stiff in expression.
“CAN’T YOU HEAR MY HEART?” Your speech was slurred as you brought your hand to clutch the side of your shirt where your heart was.
“You have super hearing, right? Can’t you hear my heart beating like crazy? Whenever I’m around you, I feel like my heart is going to jump out of my chest because I like you much!” Your mouth continued to blabber, but your mind was reeling. Control yourself Y/N! You willed yourself but you couldn’t. Stupid Asgardian alcohol.
“I can’t hide it anymore. I need to let you know! I need to let the whole word know!” You flailed your hands out in motion. “Do you know how much it hurts to like you and not letting you know? I need to get this off my chest. Right here and right now!” You put a foot up on the table and stretched your hand out to point at Steve Rogers.
“Steve Rogers! Do you want to go out with me?” You asked boldly, not caring a hoot about everyone in the room. Your mind was chastising you for being foolish, but your heart felt fulfilled from doing what it always wanted to do.
There were gasps from people in the room. A series of ‘oh my god’ and suppressed laughter from others. Sam’s jaw looked like it was going to drop to the floor. Tony at this moment couldn’t hold back himself and howled. He needed to take a swig of booze to continue watching this. Bucky looked over to his best pal who looked like he didn’t want to be anywhere else but here.
Both Natasha and Wanda had worried expressions. They were glad you were able to confess but they also knew this was not the way you would want it to go. Vision and Bruce looked like they couldn’t believe what was happening in front of their eyes.
Steve Rogers was at a loss. The last thing he expected was a confession from you. Steve was not sure how to respond. He liked you alright, but he wasn’t sure if he liked you as much as you to him. He always seen you as a friend and teammate.
He remembered how shy you were when first joined. You were wary of everything, and it was normal. He read up on your profile. He was surprised to learn you were under Agent Phil Coulson’s personal tutelage. He knew the man and thought highly of him. Natasha gave in her input, remembering you were a spunky and enthusiastic rookie agent who always seemed to put in her best efforts.
When he realised you had been on the run from HYDRA because of your powers, he knew he had to step in. It was only the right thing to do. When he first saw you, he was taken aback at the girl who covered for him. You didn’t have to. If you did, you exposed yourself to the risk of your location to HYDRA. And when the two of you fought hand in hand, he felt a weird sense of camaraderie he did not expect to find in someone he met for the first time.
He remembered when you accepted his offer, he offered his hand but instead you pulled in for a hug. He was taken aback but gave in when he felt you shaking in his arms. You let out muffled cries and Steve could feel your sense of relief that you didn’t need to hide anymore. You were safe and he would keep you safe.
You opened up to the rest of the team almost instantly, your easy-going nature made everyone comfortable about you. You had an effortless way of getting along with people and you soon became an indispensable part of the team.
However, Steve started to notice while you were getting closer with everyone, he could feel like you were keeping a distance from him. While you were still friendly with him, he could not help but to feel that you showed hesitance around him.
Sure enough, you always did nice things for him, but Steve could not help but feel you were always guarded around him. You were unafraid to be silly and goofy around the rest of the team, but he could sense you always wanted to present a good image whenever he’s around.
When you were not looking, he could see you making faces to Sam across the room when meetings get boring and draggy. It was one late night, both you and Bucky could not sleep, and you offered to help Bucky with his nightmares when Steve happened to pass by the common kitchen.
The look of excitement when you brought out an entire tea set and assortment of tea selection laid on the table. “You should give up on coffee from now on. Tea is the way to go!” You said in a matter of fact tone. You went on to talk about the benefits of tea and how they helped you especially in the line of work you were all involved in.
You went on to brew actual tea leaves for Bucky, claiming it was even better than putting a sachet in a cup of hot water. Steve couldn’t help but smile at the lengths you went for Bucky. It was nice to see Bucky having another friend aside from himself and occasionally Sam.
Steve didn’t know how long he was staring but he was snapped out of it when Bucky called him out from where he was hiding behind the wall. When your head snapped to see Steve, your carefree smile dropped and became one that was more reserved.
“Uh, hey Steve.” You greeted him. “Tea?” You asked him as you held up the pot. Sure why not, Steve thought.
The three of you began to have a heart to heart late night talk. Your enthusiasm from earlier mellowed but you still talked easily with Bucky and him. Steve noticed your eyes were always looking towards Bucky. Did you like him? Steve saw you throwing glances every now and then, but you kept your eyes on Bucky, as if wanting to avoid having to look at him. You laughed easily at Bucky’s sardonic humour and even rested your head on his arm a couple of times in affection.
You had to like Bucky right? Steve never seen you so close to another guy in the team, except for Tony and Sam whom he knew you had sibling like relationships with. Steve knew it, Bucky always got the girl.
Even back in the 30s’. Bucky had an effortless charm about him, and even after all he had gone through, he never lost his appeal. Steve knew about the glances that some of the female staff in the compound had whenever Bucky stepped into the room.
Steve suddenly felt like the scrawny kid back in Brooklyn. The one who always gotten put aside. The one who was always forgotten. Even after the serum, Steve felt like this from time to time. Steve did know he had gotten more attractive with his increased height and bigger build, but he couldn’t help to wonder if that was all he had.
He was aware of the looks he received by female staff too in the Avengers compound, but he was also aware that they were attracted to Captain America and not Steve Rogers.
Steve felt like you weren’t like the rest. Sure, you did nice things for him and smiled at him everytime you two met, but Steve felt like you were genuine. Yes, they were more muted than what you did for the rest of the team, but he did felt you were not just fawning over him. You were just nice like that.
He did secretly hoped you could be less guarded around him though. Was he intimidating? Was he not approachable? Steve thought long and hard about this once in a while.
Back to the confession, Steve could not believe what he was hearing. You liked him all this while? It wasn’t Bucky? But how? But why? He thought you liked Bucky for sure! And here you are, declaring your crush for him in front of everyone like it was nothing. Yes, you did drink Thor’s special mead but it was a complete flip of how you usually were around him.
What was he supposed to say? You were drunk. Steve didn’t even know if you were even thinking straight. But your eyes. Your eyes were boring straight to his and he realised this was the longest that you have looked him in the eyes without shying away.
“Come on, Rogers. Don’t leave a girl hanging. Give her an answer.” Tony egged on, the only one amused in this entire situation.
“I-uh…” Steve looked to his best pal and Bucky could only returned a look that said ‘It’s all up to you, punk’.
“Y/N, you are drunk. You should return to your room.” Steve instantly regretted his words when he saw the sullen look on your face. You looked like you were crushed, and he felt horrible.
“I’m not drunk!” You retorted almost defiantly. “I’m wide awake. I’m woke.” You claimed.
“Do you not like me? Am I that unlikable?” You added on in a whimpering tone. You turned to your side and grabbed Bucky by the collar.
“Why? Why does he not like me?” You cried almost like a child who didn’t get she wanted. Bucky decided to intervene and hoist you over his shoulders. “Okay time for you to be in bed.”
“Put me down Bucky! I am perfectly capable of walking. I don’t want my face to meet your ass!” You fought back as you started throwing fists at Bucky’s backside to get him to let you down. You didn’t remember the events of that night after Bucky dropped you on your bed. You did have an inkling memory of Wanda and Natasha helping you get ready for bed.
———————————————————————
Shit, you thought. Every memory came back rushing back to you and you squished your face to the pillow. You didn’t want to face the music. You didn’t even want to step out of your room to face the consequences of your drunkenness. What have you done? Every last possibility of your relationship with Steve had been tossed out the window.
Should you quit? Pack up and run away? You didn’t think you could ever stand to be around him anymore. Your mind then wandered to the pounding headache from the hangover you acquired. You turned your face to the side to see a glass of water and two aspirin pills. You wandered who left them there. Must be either Wanda or Nat.
You took the pills and down them with the glass of water. You sat up to get your bearings and let out a sigh. Woah, you stunk of alcohol. A bath sounded nice at this moment. You dragged yourself with every ounce of energy left in your body and struggled to fill the tub with warm water. You didn’t know how you managed but you went over to your cabinet to grab some relaxing essential oils to be added into your bath.
Yes that bath was helpful indeed. After you rinsed off, you changed into a long-sleeved cropped Henley and loose sweats. You were drying your hair as you mulled over what happened last night.
What were you supposed to do? You could feel the hunger growling in your stomach. You asked Friday for the time and it was well over 2pm. You then asked for the locations of everyone in the team. If you wanted to avoid social interactions, you needed to come up with a plan. Bucky and Sam were training new recruits. Nat, Wanda and Vision were out while Tony ad Bruce were in the lab. Steve was in his office.
That sounded good, you could sneak into the kitchen, make a sandwich or something and get the hell out in 10 minutes tops. As quickly as you could, you made sure to make a sound even while sprinting to the kitchen. When you assessed that the coast was clear, you quickly opened the fridge and cabinets to take out what you want.
You messily put a sandwich together and even grabbed an instant ramen bowl. You placed everything on a tray and quickly returned to your room. You wolfed down on the sustenance as if you didn’t eat for days. The soup from the ramen cured was a warm welcome for your stomach. You placed your tray aside and lay on your bed. What next?
You walked over to the toilet to relieve yourself once more when you suddenly felt the ground shaking. You shot up in surprise and quickly cleaned up.
“Friday, what happened?” You asked worriedly.
“There has been an explosion down in lab beside the garage.” Friday answered immediately.
“Are Tony and Bruce okay?” You asked after the Science bros.
“Yes, their vitals show no danger. However, Captain Rogers was also present when the explosion occurred.” Steve was there too?
“I cannot detect his-” Friday spoke once more, but you didn’t hear the end of it as your door flew open and you raced down to the lab.
Tony and Bruce came into view as they stood around the weird panels in the lab. There was a faint smoke in the air.
“Woah what happened?” You could hear Sam’s voice behind you, and you turned to see Bucky present too. The three of you walked over to the scene hurriedly to examine what happened.
“Where’s Steve? I heard he was also-” Your sentence was interrupted by a coughing. The voice sounded familiar, but something was different. The smoke cleared to reveal….
“Yo Steve, what happened?!” Sam exclaimed at the sight standing in front of him. All eyes turned to see Steve Rogers only much much older in physical appearance. It would match with his actual age but you couldn’t believe your eyes.
The Steve in front of you looked shocked at the sight of everyone. He also had a look of longing like he had not seen everyone in a long time.
“Shit, we made Cap old!” Tony gasped aloud.
“Steve, you there?” Bucky stepped forward to place his hands on the shoulder of his old friend. Your attention was brought to the height difference. Steve was no longer the same height range as Bucky. He in fact, looked smaller. His grey hair was combed neatly and you could see the wrinkles adorned on his face. His blue eyes were still sparkling, you thought. Steve was dressed warmly in several layers on top and he turned his head slowly to take in his surroundings.
His eyes landed on you and started to panic. Last night’s events came rushing back to you and you then realised you didn’t want to face him. You turned your heels to leave immediately but you were stopped in your tracks.
“Wait, Y/N. Please don’t go.” The voice that came out of him sounded so frail that to didn’t had the heart to continue walking.
Your body turned back to face future Steve and he was slowly making his way to you. As you got closer, you realised the two of you were almost of the same height. Future Steve went in for a hug without any other words. Though he was much smaller, his hug was still firm. Your eyes widened at his actions and you awkwardly returned it with your arms wrapped under his arms.
“It’s so good to see you again. I missed you so much.” Future Steve muttered as he leaned his face into the crook of your neck. His voice shook almost like he was holding back tears.
“Again? What do you mean again?” Bruce took the words right out of your mouth. Steve reluctantly let go of you and turned to face the rest of the people in the room.
“What year is this?” Future Steve asked. Bruce gave the answer to which future Steve let out a short laugh.
“That long, huh. 50 years I see.” He spoke once more.
“50 years? Wait a minute, are you from the future?” Sam asked incredulously. Future Steve didn’t gave an answer but the silence that followed confirmed our suspicions.
“So if Cap here is from 50 years into the future, where does leave the Cap in our timeline?” Tony inquired. Old Steve gave a shrug.
“You always make the impossible seem possible, Tony.”
“Perhaps, they switched places.” Bruce deduced. He then went on rambling how Tony and himself were experimenting with the idea of time travel and different universe. The original Steve was walking in to talk to Tony when the blast had happened and he got caught in it, which all led to the current situation.
“Can we get him back?” Bucky spoke up, looking over to long-time friend.
“We can try but we will need time to work out the mechanics and see when we have gone wrong. We cannot guarantee how long it would take.” Bruce answered.
“Friday, you got all of this on tape right? I cannot wait to show out Cap this footage when he gets back.” Tony jested and you turned to him with an annoyed expression.
“This is serious Tony. You better fix this!”
“Geez kid, cut me some slack.” He rolled his eyes. “So what are we going to do with this Cap?” He pointed over to the future Steve standing beside me.
“We can take him back to the common room, let him get comfortable while you fix your machine. Best to not let anyone else know about this outside of our circle.” Bucky remarked before gesturing for Steve to follow him. Sam was still reeling in surprise as he assessed future Steve.
You stood rooted to the ground, unsure what to do. Should you follow Sam and Bucky with future Steve? You were still haunted by what happened last night. Well this Steve didn’t know what happened, but you couldn’t help but to feel embarrassed still.
“Y/N, are you coming?” Bucky offered you to join. You were about to reject his offer, make up an excuse to go back to your room when someone grabbed hold of your hand.
You looked to see future Steve holding your hand gently with his wrinkled hands. You could feel the blood rushing to your cheeks and ears. He was gazing into your eyes with a shy smile.
“Walk with me?” He asked and you swore you wanted to melt into a puddle.
“Me?” You were sure you looked confused at the transition of what was happening. Future Steve chuckled and continued walking on, pulling you with him. Bucky who witnessed this smiled to himself and Sam continued to look baffled at everything.
His hand felt warm and soft, you thought. Unconsciously, your other hand went to hold his arm. You were shy to meet future Steve’s gaze especially since you were now the same height as him. It was much more intense than looking at him now.
All of you walked silently to the common room. Everyone sat around the dining table, you offered to make coffee but future Steve held onto your hand as you stood up to walk over to the pantry.
“I would like some tea, if you don’t mind. The one with actual leaves and not just the tea bag.” His face crinkled as he smiled at you.
“Uh sure- you two want some coffee?” You turned to the other two soldiers. The two went along with Steve’s request for tea and you went to find the tea set stored in the cabinet.
You placed the tea set in the centre of the table. It was a clay tea set that was gifted to you by your Bucky as your Secret Santa last Christmas. Nat and Wanda gave their input on the design.
You got the boiled water ready to rinse the teapot and cups. Following this you started to brew the tea as you added the tea leaves into the pot and added the hot water. You rinsed the first batch of brewed tea once before making the second batch that was prepared for drinking.
You were honestly nervous even though you done this hundreds of times. Somehow having future Steve watching over you made you wary of your movements. There was a good few minutes of silence before you poured the tea into the small teacups and offering it to everyone. Future Steve appreciated the teacup in his hands before blowing on it and taking a sip.
“Y/N, it always tastes the best when you made it.” Future Steve turned to me again with a sweet smile. Shit, Steve was still adorable even beyond his years. Calm down your heart, Y/N!
“So Cap, what’s life like 50 years down the road?” Sam decided to break the ice. Future Steve laughed at his bluntness before answering. It felt like nothing changed. Even while this Steve has aged, the three soldiers fell back into easy conversation.
Sam was curious about himself and tried to pry information out of future Steve. Future Steve warned that knowing the future may not be a good idea. He did throw in several teasing remarks that Sam and Bucky will continue to argue in their old age in front of their grandchildren.
Bucky was surprised that he would even have his own family in the future. He was about to ask Steve about his own when Bucky’s eyes wandered to Steve’s left hand, a silver band resting on one of his fingers.
“Guess we’re not the only ones who had our own families.” Bucky remarked smugly as he nodded his head to future Steve’s wedding band. Future Steve thumbed over his wedding band before sneaking a glance over to you.
“Well, uh-yes I did. But-” The idea of Steve married was not impossible, I mean after all he was such a great catch. You were pretty sure Steve finally gotten a nice girl to settle down with. The gnawing feeling in your chest returned. Damn, this hurts more than you thought. You just wished Steve had a happy and fulfilling life.
You stood up abruptly from your seat, almost seething with jealousy. You couldn’t help it. The feelings from yesterday were still raw and you couldn’t handle the truth if future Steve were to talk about his happy married life.
Your abrupt action caused the chair to screech as it was pushed back. You felt the eyes of all three soldiers on you and you hasten to collect the tea set to mask your reaction. You hurriedly walked over to the sink to wash your tea set, leaving it to air dry.
“I’m going off for a walk. See you boys later.” You quickly waved off before you transitioned to a brisk walk to the elevator. When you exit one of the doors of the compound, you headed straight for the clearing near the lake. It was your secret spot that you had claimed as your own. You always came here when your mind and heart were heavy.
You had a bench secretly installed so that you could sit there and gaze into the sunset on occasions. You remembered ordering it on Tony’s card and had to bring it out to the clearing when everyone was still asleep in the early morning, You laughed silently at your own antics.
You laid on your side on the bench, propping your head up with your arms and you dazed off into the lake in front of you. You didn’t know how long you were lying down but you wished you had brought your phone and earpiece to pass the time.
“I guess even the serum cannot help me at this age. Way to make an old man come after you, Y/N.” Your ears perked up at his voice and in a moment of surprise, rolled forward and off the bench.
“What the fu-” You exclaimed when your body hit the ground.
“Language. Although, many reminders wouldn’t have stopped you anyway.” You couldn’t believe who had followed you to your secret spot. Moreover, how did he know? Even Friday didn’t know! Or did she?
“Steve? What are you doing here?” You asked in a panic as you gathered yourself, brushing the dirt off your knees and elbows.
“Are you alright? That was not a pretty fall.” Future Steve now stood in front of you, his eyes were worried and concerned. His hands reached out to examine the extent of your injuries and was relieved to know that they were nothing major.
“How did you know I will be here? Nobody knows about this spot except for me.” You said.
“Well doll, you were not that subtle moving the bench across the hallway at 5am. Besides, I was already awake at that time” He spoke in a fond tone as he recalled the memory. “Curiosity got the better of me and I decided to follow the girl who was carrying a bench larger than herself.”
You cringed at the exposure of your secret and grimaced at how foolish you must have been in Steve’s eyes.
“I won’t blame you for keeping this place a secret. It is beautiful.” Future Steve spoke with a lingering gaze towards the lake and the surrounding flora. He then gestured for you to sit beside him and you reluctantly did, unsure of what to do either. You made sure that there was a gap between the two of you. You looked anywhere else except for him and didn’t what to say in the following silence.
“What would it take for you to look at me? Am I that unlikeable in your eyes?” Future Steve first broke the silence.
“No, I would never!” You immediately countered. You were shocked at how loud you were and reminded yourself to calm the f down. “I mean who would not like you?!” You gestured dramatically as your hands moved up and down at him. Steve inched closer to you and placed his hands over yours where were resting on your lap.
“I am glad to hear that, Y/N.” You looked into his eyes and had to avert them immediately before you feel like your heart would explode. You looked down to see his wedding band in your lap and you were reminded once more of what made you came out to the lake in the first place.
“Hopefully, Tony and Bruce can come up with a way to get you back to your time. I’m sure you’re missing your family.” You said to future Steve to which he shook his head.
“Not really actually. It’s nice to see all of you young again, reminds me of the good times where we were all together. I lost some people in my time and am glad to see them once again.”
“Oh, did we not all live to an old age like you?” Future Steve’s jaw clenched at your remark and you immediately realised you hit a nerve. “I’m so sorry-” You started apologising before future Steve waved you off, reassuring that it was fine. You could feel the grip of his hands tightened around yours.
“You must have been shocked to see me like this.” Future Steve looked over at himself.
“Shock would not have been the word, surprised was more accurate.” I corrected him.
“Still, you couldn’t have believed that the big and strong Captain America actually looked like this in his old age, right? The serum’s effects waned as I got older in age. I still am strong for someone my age, but my physique reverted back to my pre-serum days.” Future Steve said despondently.
“Hey, don’t say! Who cares about Captain America?” You retorted at his words. “All I see is adorable grandpa Steve Rogers. You’re way cuter like this!” You even emphasized your point when you grabbed his arm and laid your head on his shoulders. If it was the current Steve, you wouldn’t have dared to do any of this. But this Steve right here surprisingly made you feel comfortable around him.
You were still nervous knowing that he was still Steve, but somehow future Steve looked less intimidating.
“You’re still the same as ever. I missed you so much.” Future Steve brought your hands up to lips for a kiss. Now this shocked you as you couldn’t help but feel that this gesture meant more. You quickly withdrew your hands and saw the crestfallen look on his face.
“Look, Steve. I really appreciate you, but I don’t think this is appropriate.” The expression on his face told you he was hurt by your words. “You’re married, Steve.” You pointed to his wedding band.
Future Steve looked down to his wedding band and then his eyes went back to you. A ghost of a smile formed on his face and he shook his head. “I’m sorry if I came off weird. It’s just been such a long time since I saw you- I mean the younger version of you. My emotions took over, I apologise.”
“No-no don’t be sorry. I understand, sort of.” You rubbed the back of your ned in awkwardness. After a while, the two of you decided to head back to the compound. Future Steve offered you his arm and you took it as the both of you enjoyed the walk back in comfortable silence.
“Hey old man, Bruce and I might have figured it out. I think we can send you back.” You and future Steve looked at each other, both sending unwilling looks as if your time together was too short.
“I guess this is goodbye.” You said in a disappointed tone.
“It’s alright, love. I promise we will see each other again.” Future Steve cradled your face with one of his hands. You wondered what he meant, and did he just called you love?!
Future Steve went over to say goodbye to Bucky and Sam, giving each other hugs and claps on the back. Future Steve gave a small salute to Tony and Bruce to which they returned with a nod. He walked over to a raised platform and shifted in his feet to get comfortable. He looked over you once more.
You didn’t know why but you started to have tears forming in your eyes. You hesitantly raise your hands to give a weak wave. Future Steve smiled fondly and returned the gesture. He started to mouth words in your direction but before you could figure out what you wanted to say, a blinding light took over.
You shield your eyes from the light and turned sideways as you felt a rush of smoke and wind. You blinked your eyes repeatedly as you take in the sight before you. Gone was future Steve and…..
“Welcome back Cap!” Sam exclaimed excitedly at seeing his friend again.
“Quick question, Rogers. Where were you?” Tony chimed in as he walked over to Steve. “We met an older version of you 50 years down the road.” Tony replied and he waved up a screen to show a photo of future Steve in the garage with everyone.
“Oh I was somewhere, but it didn’t look like it was far off from this era. Everything looked the same. I wasn’t sure where I was until I saw a date somewhere.” Steve seemed like he was trying to phrase his response carefully and he looked back at Tony.
His eyes then swerved over to where Bucky, Sam and you were standing. He started striding forward and you were sure he was going over to Bucky and Sam. Your feet decided to shuffle backwards once you recalled what happened between you and this version of Steve just yesterday. You made to turn back when you felt yourself being pulled back into an embrace.
You were pushed against a solid mass of muscle; you didn’t need to look up because you knew who it was. Steve wrapped his arms tightly around you, seeming to not let you go anytime soon.
“Stefve-” Your voice was muffled against his shirt. You weren’t sure where to place your hands and you were sure it could have felt your heart being wildly against his own chest. Steve placed his head in the crook of your neck and took in a deep breath before sighing. Talk about déjà vu.
You looked over to see the rest of the guys in the garage staring on with bambi eyes. You gestured a wave towards Bucky, signalling for help. You weren’t ready for this Steve at all!
“What’s with the Capsicles hugging Y/N today?” Tony quipped from the side.
You didn’t know how long it was but knew it was long enough for a hug to turn awkward. You tried to place your hands between Steve and yourself to create distance.
“Steve, what’s wrong?” Your voice came out squeaky as you willed yourself to look into his eyes. You were surprised to see Steve’s eyes looking red and puffy as if he had been previously crying.
“Stay with me, Y/N. Just a little while longer.” He answered and how could you say no. You obliged and eventually wrapped your arms around him, returning his hug. The rest of the guys were befuddled at what was going on but decided to let the two of you have your moment.
You could hear Sam making a comment as he walked off. “Geez what a weird day and I haven’t even had a drink yet.” Bucky scoffed and proceeded to smack his head before walking forward.
Your eyes followed him and when he caught your stare, he winked before walking off. Your brows knitted at his previous actions but then you realised you had something more important to attend to. You still had a blonde super soldier clinging on to you like a koala.
“Alright, Steve. That’s enough of a hug. This is getting weird.” Upon your words, Steve finally released you but still held onto your arms.
“About yesterday, Y/N, I-” Steve started speaking and our eyes widened in anticipation of his following words. You don’t think you could bear to hear it. You cupped your ears and immediately ran off, making gibberish noise to tune him out.
“Wait, Y/N! Please listen to what I have to say!” Steve started chasing after you. He chased after you for a good several minutes out to the compound grounds. He knew where you were heading, you didn’t know why your feet decided to bring you there but you guessed that if any form of rejection is happening, you want it away from the eyes from anyone in the compound.
“Y/N Y/L/N! Stop it right there!” You halted in your tracks.
You turned back to see Steve Rogers with both hands on his hips. You felt like child being reprimanded by a parent. “Way to make an old man chase after you, Y/N Y/L/N.”
“You’re not that old.” You quipped back at his words.
“I’m well over 100, doll.” Steve reminded you as he laughed.
“You don’t need to run away from me, Y/N. What I’m about to say, well I-” Steve started stuttering and you could see him slightly nervous.
“What is it?” You tried to encourage him. Steve’s eyes started to turn red and he was looking at the ground.
“I like you too. I really like you Y/N.” Steve finally mustered the courage to let the words out of his mouth.
“Be my girl, please? I promise to love you and protect you always.” He added on. You felt your jaw dropped at what you were hearing. No way! Did Steve return your feelings? But how? But why?
“But yesterday, the party, you didn’t, I was drunk-” Your sentences weren’t making sense, but Steve knew what you meant.
“I know and I was honestly taken aback by your confession, doll. But I did some thinking and I realised that I feel the same too. I never realised how much I did until I lost you doll.” Steve’s long legs brought him closer to and he cradled your face with both his hands.
“You didn’t lose me, what are you talking about?” His words were puzzling, what did he meant by lose? How could it even be possible? You were right here all this time.
“I just- I don’t want to let you go ever. Please stay by my side.” Steve’s words only served to confuse you further, but you couldn’t bother to think about it in greater depth. You wanted Steve and he wanted you too. You nodded. “Always.”
Steve grinned a toothy wide smile before leaning in for a kiss. You two poured all your emotions into the kiss and it made your hearts soar. When you both finally pulled apart for a breather, Steve spoke. “I can’t wait for our future together.”
———————————————————————
50 years into the future
Steve landed on a grassy patch from the combustion of Tony and Bruce’s machine. He looked over to assess his surroundings and realised that he was not in the compounds anymore.
Steve then realised he was at a cemetery and there was a bouquet of flowers that laid on the ground beside his feet. He picked up the bouquet with lavender wrapping paper and turned to examine it further.
He then looked down again, this time to a gravestone standing just a few feet away from him.
Y/N ROGERS
A DEAR WIFE.
A LOYAL FRIEND.
A FIERCE FIGHTER
1988- 2030
The words Steve read before him hit him harder than a train wreck. How could this be possible? 2030? This means that Y/N only lived till a young age of 42. That was earlier than expected. Why was his heart aching in pain?
The tears started streaming down his face before he could even comprehend them. Steve dropped to his knees in front of the gravestone and hunched over with the bouquet gripped tightly in his hands.
“Y/N…” He whispered. “I swear I will change this future.”

“Y/N.”
You were abruptly woken by a sound next to you. Jolting upwards you were met by the shadow of a person sitting on your bed. Your mind was screaming to run but your body was frozen in the dark. Stretching your arm towards your nightstand ever so slowly, a hand took a gentle hold on your arm.
A small whimper left your throat as the shadow reached towards you.
You practically jumped back, kicking your legs, but strong arms held them down.
“Y/N, it’s me,” the voice was deep and tired, but oh so familiar. Warmth spread through your body. You gasped and leaned forwards.
“Steve? What are you doing here?” you asked as you reached for the light on your nightstand again. His grip on your arm tightened.
“Don’t… turn it on,” he whispered. A deep frown etched itself on your face as the warm feeling in your body turned to a cold shiver. Questions were running through your mind at a million miles a second. Was he hurt? You tried to ask something, anything, but nothing but stutters came out.
He sighed and you could barely make out his upset expression in the dark.
“I don’t know why I’m here… I shouldn’t be, but I just… I just needed to see you,” his voice sounded ashamed.
You bit your lip as you reached your other hand out towards him, resting on his shoulder. You swallowed a nervous lump in your throat as you inched closer to him.
“Hey, it’s okay. I’m here… anytime you need me,” you said quietly as you let your hand run down his back slowly, trying to give some comfort.
He took a deep breath and you could see his head turn to look at you. You gave him a warm smile. Your night vision was slowly getting used to the dark, and you could see him relaxing a bit, giving a sad smile back.
“Want to tell me what's wrong?” you asked quietly, “you don’t have to, but it might help you ease up a bit…”
He looked down at your arm in his, rubbing a small circle on your skin with his thumb. The small motion gave you butterflies.
“It’s a long story.”
You moved over on the bed and tugged him with you, he reluctantly moved to lay against you. You noticed he was wearing only a t-shirt which made you frown. It was winter.
Pulling him close, he rested his head on your chest, draping a careful arm over your stomach. You wrapped your arm around his big shoulders, running your fingers slowly through his slightly damp hair. Sweat.
You frowned again. The curiosity was tearing at you, but you didn’t want to push him. He was strong and could watch over himself, sure, but sometimes he needed someone. And that someone was you. Recently more frequently than before.
Ever since you started working for The Avengers you two had become close, there as just a bond between you two that you couldn’t explain. You didn’t really talk about it either, you both just enjoyed the others company. You weren’t a superspy or special in any way like them, you were a shy and careful soul who enjoyed staying behind a desk.
You kept combing your fingers through his soft locks as his grip around you tightened the slightest, pulling you even closer. Your cheek rested against his forehead as you stared out the window of your bedroom. The sky was completely black and you could see a few stars.
The back of your fingers ran down his cheek softly, you felt his eyelashes against your hand as he blinked.
“You should try to sleep,” you whispered. He was still for a moment longer, before raising his head from your chest and resting his weight on his arm, looking down at you. You’d be lying if you said the closeness of his face didn’t make you extremely nervous. Your breath hitched in your throat as he moved his other arm from your stomach up to cup your cheek with his big hands.
His thumb stroked your cheek and you wanted to just close your eyes and stay this way forever. You looked him dead in the eyes, not daring to look away, afraid he’d disappear. Steve slowly leaned closer, his lips hovering right above yours. A part of you wanted to smash your lips against his, but you didn’t make a move.
Fingers dropping under your jaw, he gently pushed your chin up, your lips meeting his in a soft kiss. His lips felt perfect against yours as you felt your nerves let go. You stretched your hand up and around his neck. Your lips moved in a dance, perfectly synced as the world around just faded away.
He pulled away ever so slightly, lips still resting against yours, as he rested his hand on your neck, fingers gliding into your hair. Softly giving your lips another peck before pulling away further to look at you.
You bit your lower lip gently and you felt your cheeks warm up, feeling very small under him. His lips curled up into a little smile.
“I feel a lot better now.”

“Listen up folks,“ Steve announced seriously, after many hours of uncomfortable silence and glances in the jet. He stood in between Clint and Tony in the cabin and gazed at us at the back. His eyes lingered on me at the back away from everyone for a second, his eyes shone with pity and guilt, I tightened my fists in response. “We’ll be landing in 15 minutes. You know the drill, we get in, get the information, and then out. Is that clear?“ His stern gaze told everyone not to mess it up.
“Good. Clint, you wait here with Banner in case of any emergency. Sam, Tony, you’ll be our eyes in the sky.“ There was a pause right there that made me look at him in wariness and the look in his eyes made my stomach sink. No.
“Pietro, Y/n, you’re together.” Everyone gasped and the air filled with tension. I refused to acknowledge his presence and kept looking forward as his gaze burned the side of my face.
“What about me?“ Wanda protested, her eyes dancing between mine and Steve’s faces. Mine must have shown mortification but his only determination.
“You’re coming with Bucky and me, we need you in case anything is blocking our way.“ Steve explained, his voice apologetic.
“But...“
“But nothing.“ His voice was stern, authority laced his words. They stared at each other, a will battle happening between them. Huh. He must have won as Wanda averted her eyes and huffed under her breath.
That was our cue to prepare everything we would need for the mission. I strapped the vest tighter, struggling a bit. After all, when I accompanied Strange or Wong to missions I would wear more of a magical kind of protection. I double-checked my boots and made sure the enchanted daggers that Strange gave me when I started training were at my side. I flipped them in my hands and hid them in my black suit. If we were to encounter any danger these would take care of it.
The jet was abnormally silent. One could slice the tension with a knife. I raised my head and caught Wanda analyzing my movements. I raised an eyebrow in question. What the heck was her problem with me? She sighed with a pained look on her face and approached me. Pietro watched our interaction with a frown.
“If something happens to my brother because of you I swear on my life I’ll destroy you.“ Wanda growled, bitterness taking hold of her words as she glared at me. I blankly stared at her and cleared my mind from all thoughts, just like Strange taught me in case I ever encountered someone like her again.
She scrunched her eyebrows in concentration, and by the looks of it, she was trying to get inside my head but failed to see anything important. I smiled tightly, thankful for Wong’s constant nagging on meditation. That didn’t mean she couldn’t read my thoughts, it just meant she would only see what I wanted her to. But as Wong explained, there will be times when she’ll be able to infiltrate my head if my mind is weak. Like the day before.
The plane landed and not wanting to hear anything else from her I walked past her. She wasn’t worth it.
“Scared little Y/n, always running away.“
Wong was always on and on about being the bigger person. He said that’s the way to a healthy and stressless life. But Wong’s not here now.
I loosened a little bit of the control I had over the death and fed them enough power to make them tangible but not visible. Spirits have their own will and can’t be controlled but necromancers have such a tight relationship with them that some tend to follow orders when offered something in exchange. They approached her and I saw the moment Wanda realize we were not alone. As a telepath, she’s more perceptive of death but can’t quite feel it. She may not be a necromancer, but she’s still a witch. I heard her gasp and saw her eyes turn red. She should know by now her powers were useless against them. There was no running from them.
“If you ever threaten me again,” I whisper in her ear, “we’ll destroy you.“ I smiled sweetly, knowing Stephen would’ve high-fived me if he had been there. I got off the jet and made my way to the group. The sense of victory lasted around 2.3 seconds because Tony was approaching me, an unreadable expression on his face. He stopped a meter away from me.
“We need to talk,“ Tony demanded, his face hard as marble. I opened my mouth to argue we had nothing to talk about. And maybe send him to hell while I was at it, but the sudden tickling feeling at the base of my neck and the out-of-nowhere appearance of an arm resting on my shoulders shut me up.
“You ready for the best night of your life partner?“ His messy and overgrown hair tickled my cheek, making me lose any perspective of reality and leaving me speechless. I was completely aware of every part of our bodies touching. It felt familiar. Odd, considering that the only time we’ve ever been this close, I was partly dead and mostly unconscious.
His hand tightening his hold on my shoulder brought me back from stupid land and made me aware of the expectant look on his face. I threw him a bewildered look, confused at his actions, but unable to separate myself from him. A closed small smile formed on his lips as our eyes met. His warmth made me feel at ease. I wouldn't be surprised if I started purring. Instant horror filled me at the thought. I was pathetic.
He grinned as he could read my thoughts and winked.
Oh.
Oh.
He was giving me a way out of the heart-to-heart convo daddy wanted to have. I winced at the mere thought. Resigned, I looped my arm around his waist and held him too. Surprising him by how his body tensed and then softened under my hands. The action brought me more pain than relief. It shouldn’t be like this.
“Yep, let’s go.“ I smiled tightly looking up at him, but he just stared me in the eyes. I heard his breath hitch and felt his chest tremble once. Suddenly, the burning sensation on my ribs made its appearance. For focusing on the cause of the ache at my side I completely overlooked the quiet groan of pain Pietro let out.
“Y/n-“, Tony started but was interrupted by an annoyed-looking Sam. “Let’s go, Tony. We don’t have all day.“ He cursed under his breath and stared at me regretfully, “We’ll talk later” and with a last look, he made his way to the whining falcon. I released a breath in relief and stepped away from the not-so-dead guy beside me. The pain disappeared instantaneously. Convincing myself it was just a coincidence I walked to Steve, who was distributing the earpieces and took one.
“Be careful, kid.“ His baby blue eyes made it impossible to be rude to him. I tried to smile and assure him I would be, but the red aura surrounding the base told me otherwise.
***
“Y/n, anything on your side?“ Steve’s voice came through the earpiece. I felt Pietro’s eyes on me once again.
“Negative.“
It’s been around 30 minutes since we parted from the team and we were yet to find anything useful. The base being enormous and falling apart didn’t help us go faster either. Every turn we made or every room we entered was either destroyed or blocked by debris. I was getting annoyed, and Pietro’s useless presence and his obvious staring were not helping. We made another turn but we were again stopped by a destroyed wall. I groaned and hit my forehead on the wall in frustration.
“This is useless. We’re not going anywhere.“ I grumbled kicking the wall. Defeat weighing on my shoulders.
“No shit, Sherlock.“ Pietro’s useful input made my blood boil. He may not see the aura but I could. Every corner, every single piece of debris was painted red. Just once have I ever seen anything like this and Strange and I almost died. I faced him ready to hit that beautiful smile off his face but the distant sound of footsteps halt me in my steps.
“Did you hear that?“ I whispered lowly, praying I had imagined it. I knew we had to find spirits to complete the mission. That didn’t mean I wanted to.
“Hear what?“ Pietro’s eyes searched mine for answers and whatever he found made him go pale. A shiver ran down my spine and I gulped. They were here.
I ignored him and silently started walking in the direction of the echo. At this distance, all I got from the spirits was that he was alone. That was the tricky part of red auras.
“You’re scared,” Pietro stated knitting his eyebrows, “why are you scared?“
“I’m not scared.“ I lied blatantly. I was pooping my pants, I would be stupid if I wasn’t afraid after the last time. But he didn’t need to know that.
“You’re tapping your fingers against your thigh.“ He said matter of factly as if it was common sense. How did he know that? I stopped doing it immediately.
“What?“
“You always used to d-“ He stopped himself before he could finish, leaving me shocked. He frowned and looked even more lost than me. My eyes widened and against my will, they filled with tears that I refused to let go. I felt the air being knocked out of my lungs as if I had been kicked in the gut. I knew he didn’t remember me, so why did he keep doing that? It was cruel.
“I- I don’t know why I said that.“ He stammered running a hand through his hair. I sought his eyes but he wouldn’t meet my gaze. I stared at him, praying he would look back at me in the darkness of the place and would recognize me. It didn’t happen. My mouth opened against my will but the same sound of footsteps stopped me. Right, the mission. I straightened up as much as I could and cleared my throat. The sooner we finish, the faster I’ll be home; all this will be just a memory.
“This way.“ I cleaned my voice of any emotion and walked ahead of him towards the creepy noises. He stood frozen but moments later he walked beside me. Silence embraced us. I hated it, but I grew to accept it. We were no longer right for each other, and nothing I did was going to change it.
We entered a new sector of the building. I gagged at the rotten smell of... dead. I covered my nose and breathed through my mouth. If the smell wasn’t enough of a hint then was the aura that grew more visible around every surface. I gulped. The dim light of our lanterns didn’t do much but gave us just enough clarity to distinguish our surroundings. The walls around us were moldy and partially destroyed. It was so dark even with lanterns I could barely see anything beyond my hands. The sound of our footsteps echoed in the walls around us giving the place a creepier vibe.
“Keep your eyes open, we’re close.“ I warned in a whisper, not wanting to disturb the dead. There was a second of silence.
“Can you really see them? Ghosts.“ Pietro clarified, I could barely see him but I just knew his eyes had rounded in curiosity. It used to be the cutest view back in the asylum. He somehow misunderstood my silence for an invitation to keep talking. “I’ve heard some things from the others but...“ He left his sentence unfinished but I knew what he meant. ...nobody really knows what I can do.
I hesitated for a second and consider not answering but something pushed me to do it.
“Yes, I can see them.“ He kept quiet out of surprise that I actually answered or fear about what I can do. I hoped it wasn’t the last one. I played with my fingers in anticipation.
“There’s no way you can get any cooler right now.“ He gushed, awe evident in his voice. I whipped my head in his direction. I could see the outline of his face and noticed his childish grin. A surprised laugh left my lips and couldn’t help the feeling of warmth in my chest or the tiny tears of laughter that appeared.
“You’re so weird.“ I said cleaning my tears with a smile on my face. He turned his head in my direction and smiled sweetly at me. His eyes softened, recreating the exact image of the Pietro I knew.
A ray of light blinded us out of nowhere. We shielded our eyes but as fast as it came, it left. We looked at each other and without a word being exchanged we ran after it. We reached the end of the aisle and turned left, at the distance, we could see the light turning right and disappearing into another corridor. At this pace, we were going to lose it. Pietro must have thought the same because one second we were standing on an empty aisle and the other, he was standing outside of a door carrying me bride style. With my arms around his neck, we stared at the light coming from the bottom of the door. With slow movements, Pietro put me down carefully. Giving him one last look I turned the knob and light flooded the dark corridor.
Together we entered the new room. The walls were bare but unlike the whole building, there was no sign of ruin. In the middle of the room was a box. But it wasn’t the box itself that caught my attention rather the name written in bold letters on the side of it. Not Y/n Stark, but Y/n Khalida. My necromancer’s name. I was petrified. I could feel my blood pounding in my ears, and sweat running down my back. This wasn’t right. There’s something wrong.
“We gotta go.“ I ordered, taking Pietro’s hand and running to the door but at that exact moment, it closed on our faces. I ran to it and tried to turn the knob but it wouldn’t move. I hit it once, twice but it didn’t even vibrate. The room turned completely red. And then I felt it. We were no longer alone. And when I turned around the spirit wasn’t the only one waiting for us.

The soft sound of a muffled knock on your door broke you from your thoughts.
"Doll..?"
His voice felt like a breath of fresh air as it washed over you, your shoulders sagging as you finally pushed yourself from your bed, slowly trudging to the door.
Before you could open the door to him, he quickly continued, almost startling you at it's unexpectedness.
"You don't have to let me in... I just, I wanted to see if you were okay... Brought you a sandwich, I can leave it outside if you want."
You felt your lips turn into a soft smile, quickly turning the doorknob and opening the door to see him.
He was already kneeling down, already halfway to placing the sandwich in front of your door. His head instantly turned to face you, and you chuckled lightly at the sight of the creeping blush that had already begun crawling up his cheeks.
"I- Uh-" He suddenly shot up to his full height, clumsily extending the plate out to you. "Sandwich?"
"Thanks." You muttered, gently taking the plate from him.
"It's good to see you." He smiled, his gaze raked over your form as he stood in the doorway, his eyebrows were lightly furrowed when he finally met your gaze. "Could I come in?"
You nodded softly, shuffling to the side to allow him in.
He closed the door gently behind him, and in seconds, you collapsed into him, allowing all the emotions that had been bubbling up in the back of your mind during the past few days to finally come to the surface.
He embraced you without hesitation, wrapping his arms around your shoulders, rubbing gentle circles into your lower back as he held you.
"It's okay, I got you..." He whispered, pulling you impossibly closer against him. "I got you."
Your shoulders rose and fell rapidly as you sobbed, pouring out every unshed tear that had slowly been welling up.
"D'wanna talk about it?" He breathed, his voice so quiet, that if you hadn't been standing so close to him, you probably wouldn't have heard him at all.
You shook your head as much as you could manage with your cheek pressed against his chest, he hummed in response.
"Wanna lay down?" He asked, pressing a soft kiss to the top of your head.
"M'kay" You quickly replied, and he delicately separated himself from you as he led you back over to your bed, allowing you to get settled before he situated himself beside you.
"Mind if I talk?"
You let out a soft, amused huff, "You don't have to ask permission for everything you know?"
"I know..." He smiled, turning his chin down to look at you, your head tenderly placed on his chest. "Just wanna make sure you're okay with it."
"I'm okay with it" You laughed, and you could feel the deep breath he inhaled at the sound of you, like a weight had been lifted off his shoulders at the sound of your laughter.
"When Bucky..." He sighed, "Back then, after I thought he-" He cleared his throat before continuing, "He wasn't around anymore, it didn't feel like he was really gone. It just felt like he was somewhere else, not gone, just somewhere else in the world. I hadn't seen him in so long after he was deployed, and I missed him then too, and it sorta felt the same after the train. Like he was just somewhere else, like I would see him again. Even after Peggy, I missed her, but it felt like I'd see her again at some point."
His arm suddenly pulled you closer against him, holding you as if you would float away at any moment.
"I realized, when you love someone, even after they go, they don't really leave you. They're just as with you as they were when you could touch 'em yourself. All that love and all the emotions you felt for them when they were here don't go away when you can't see them anymore, they'll always be with you." He paused for a moment, wiping the stray tear that rolled onto your cheek. "And so will I."
Your eyelids began to grow heavy with sleep, and you wished you could say something in response to his words, but the knot in your throat denied you.
So you pressed further against him, hoping he would understand what your voice wouldn't allow you to say, allowing his warmth to fully encase you as you fell further and further into drowsiness.
"Now get some rest," You could hear him mumble, the vibrations of his voice and slow rise and fall of his chest pulling you to the edge of sleep. "I'll be right here when you wake up."
