In light of chapter 86, while I doubt this will actually happen anytime soon as it would put Yor's secret at risk, I kind of want Yor to shyly offer to teach Loid some self defense or offer to train with him so that he doesn't get hurt as much by the next unruly patient he has to deal with. I like to think that Loid would accept her offer for one reason or another - he'd either find a way to 'for the mission' it or perhaps he'd think back to the tennis arc and recall how training with Yor helped him there and decide it's a good idea to take her up on the offer. He's been slipping after all and maybe this would help him get back into fighting form? While he could decline out of pride or fear of outing himself or drawing too much attention to themselves or something, I still prefer to think he'd say 'yes' if she asked

SIYUN BAEK WITH A SICK S/O
Manhwa: “Dreaming Freedom” ~~~~!
Note: Its perfect! Thank you for requesting! Also thank you for reading, you made my day. ♡
Pairing: Siyun Baek x female! reader
Format: Headcanons; 2nd person
WARNING(S): Yandere themes, obsession, mild spoilers
Word Count: ???
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's ALLERGY and/or FLU SEASON, and unfortunately, you've fallen very ill. Best case scenario you'll have a cold and nothing more; a high fever at the worst. But either way, Siyun isn't complaining.
You can't go anywhere? Great! You feel like absolute shit and can barely move from your bed? Oh my, even better! Besides working out, Siyun doesn't have much to pass his time with. He's lonely without you, often finding himself watching the clock, counting the minutes — seconds before you return to him.
But seeing you tucked tightly beneath the pastel duvet, wrapped in a small cocoon. Your cheeks lightly flushed a rather feverish hue, as ragged breaths slipped past your dry lips. Call him crazy but you're absolutely adorable. He could hardly keep his hands to himself!
“Y'know, you look really cute like this {Name}.”
You huffed, “You almost look happy that I'm in this situation.” With a light shove, you pushed his face away from your own for what felt like the thousandth time. Finally ditching the thick sheets, you turn away from him, welcoming the chilled puffs of air to your warm skin.
“Would you be mad if I said I was?” Siyun asked, snaking his arms around your waist, pressing his cheek into the tender skin of your own. “God, you're adorable...”
“Yes. Now, let go; I'm burning up.”
Tumblr media
Siyun is CLINGY as it is. Therefore, you being bedridden to some degree is right up his alley. Personal space has never been a thing in your relationship, and he's not going to let a little flu stop him. Embracing you, suffocating you with his body; it's all too easy! Pressing sweet, chaste kisses along the warm skin of your neck. Sneakily, dragging his slender fingers beneath the flimsy silk of your pajamas.
In all honesty, he'd rather have you stay at his house until you feel well again. It works pretty well, convenience-wise. It stops him from wrenching your door open, occupying your home with the crying of loud unwavering hinges. Or perhaps even sneaking through your window.
You being so vulnerable excites him in more ways than he'd care to admit. He truly is a pervert. Chewing on his pink lips, even digging his nails into his milky skin, no longer seems to be enough. Though his desires are anything but malicious, Siyun can't help the wandering of his young mind to many, many impure places.
Your parents already adore him, let's be honest! Thus, convincing them to let you stay the night or week should be a piece of cake. It's almost scary, the way he speaks to your parents; so polite and dare I say perfect. It's truly no surprise that he was a former idol, a famous one at that. How could your adoring mother and father not allow such a kind man to nurture and care for your well-being?
Siyun brings your head to his chest, relishing in the heat you radiate. His hands had fallen past your waist, toying with the thin band of your thin shorts. You give his chest a weak push, as a pitiful attempt to distance yourself. But it was no use, he merely pulled you closer, much to your dismay.
“Siyun...” You breathed out, weakly clawing at his slender hands. “Stop this, you're going to get sick.”
He hummed, “Is that so?” Though his hands showed no sign of leaving your waist. Instead, they tugged you flush against his chest with a low chuckle. Warm breath tickled the back of your neck, making you tense in anticipation.
“Then I guess we're just gonna have to be sick together~!” ♡
Tumblr media
Let's say you're a STUDENT; high school or college, it's your choice. And due to your abrupt sickness, you're bound to miss at least a handful of classes. But fret not my dear, your classmates are itching to help you out. I mean, you're dating the Siyun Baek after all, just a glance at him could send anything girl into a frenzy!
Thankfully, your teacher settled for your seatmate. A kind, extroverted guy who you got along with quite well. He had managed to get your number due to a recent project and was quick to alert you of his unexpected arrival.
[CHOI BYUNG-CHUL]
➤ Heya [Last Name], the teacher asked me to bring sum missin assignments to ur place. Is that okey with u?
SENT; 17:23
You snort at the scrambled characters, finding some charm amongst the male's easy mistakes. It wasn't something unusual as he was an infamous clutz in your class. So he was likely texting while typing, again. Your fingers hover over the luminous keyboard, before eventually sending him a simple response.
[YOU] ➤ Yeah, it's fine lol. But I'm not home so come to this address “XX XXXX Avenue/Drive/Street” SENT; 17:25
➤ Have a safe trip. :)
SENT; 17:25
While immersed in your phone, you had yet to notice a certain someone looming over you in displeasure. From lack of attention, perhaps. But you had never been one to allow technology to soak up your time, nonetheless when you're ill. So who could possibly be taking up your time? He pondered, glaring hard at the device resting on your hand.
Pulling back the covers, Siyun moved to join you beneath the spotless sheets of the mattress. The dipping of the bed didn't bother you, let alone pull you from the flashing screen of your phone. The ex-idol sighed loudly, shifting to take the pesky item from your protective grip. Only to be brushed off by a bored, dismissive hand.
He. Was. Livid.
“Babe~!” Siyun cooed, though his tone lacked even an ounce of playfulness. “What on your phone could possibly be so damn interestin—” DING DONG!
Whew! Saved by the bell.
“I'll get it.” He murmured under his breath, tossing the thick duvet to the side. The man was quick to leave in long, haste strides, but not before his eyes flicked to your stunned form one last time.
Now, Siyun had expected a lot of things, but this surely wasn't one of them. A shorter male, about five feet seven inches, no older than nineteen was at his door. His mousy brown hair was a mess, and he had a lightly tinted folder tucked tightly beneath his arm.
“H-hi, I'm one of [Last Name]'s classmates and I brought some papers to her.” Byung-Chul commenced, frantically unzipping the top of his backpack. “She — uhm, texted me this address.”
Oh, now it all made sense. The persistent flashing of your phone, snatching your attention right from his grasp. The lighthearted giggles that'd leave your mouth ever so often. Friendly, that they were. Giggles that held no sense of love; merely admiration and glee. Even so, it wasn't good enough.
One could say the latter is quite bitter. And if If looks could kill, your friend would be six — no, ten feet under! And that's being generous. But Siyun knows better than to let his bad side show. Heh, who am I kidding?
A faux smile tugged at the corner of his lips, one he was all too familiar with using. “Ah, I see. Thanks for coming...?”
“Choi Byung-Chul!” He chirped, handing the papers to the former idols' outstretched hand.
“Heh, right,” Siyun scoffs, disinterested. He lazily takes the folder from the male, leaning in a bit too close for comfort. “Since you're already here, I have a little favor for you. If you're up for it.”
“I...um — yeah, sure,” Byung-Chul stammered, looking over the time blaring from the smartwatch adorning his wrist. “I can spare a few minutes. What's up—?”
A sharp pain shot through the poor man's abdomen in mere seconds, sending him crumbling to his knees. Siyun loosely shook his wrist in the air, allowing the gentle breeze to cool the slight stinting of his knuckles. A cold, lifeless expression grazed the face of the once-beloved idol as he watched the man wither beneath his gaze.
“Stay away from [Name]. I wouldn't want anyth ing bad to happen to you~!”

Thank you so much!
Here's one of the requests Lucifer, diavolo, barbatos and Simeon, (maybe Satan and beel is if isn't to much) find out lover mc is suicidal, really badly, (separately if it isn't to much trouble! )
Hello, anon! I hope that this was the type of format you had in mind. Enjoy!
suicidal mc
-> lucifer, diavolo, barbatos, simeon, satan and beelzebub x mc
important: Remember your feelings are valid and deserve to be heard. If you or a loved one is dealing with suicidal thoughts, reach out to that hotline/person/etc. Suicide is never the solution.
mc's gender is not mentioned, not proof read
content warnings: suicide, crying, not eating, mild strong language, mc attempts suicide (overdose) in barbatos' part!!, spacing out, lesson 5/6 spoilers
-----
Lucifer
he noticed the signs pretty early on in your relationship
lucifer didn't want to jump to any conclusions though, so he just kind of kept an eye on you to see whether his suspicions were correct or not
there were days when you skipped rad, and lately they became more frequent
it was literally a whole chore for you to even get out of bed, you stayed in it the whole day, not even eating, were you too tired to feel any hunger?
lucifer didn't waste a second when you didn't show up at school for the third day in a row, he made his way over to your room
'mc, I've noticed some worrisome behavior, do you mind telling me what's wrong?'
when you broke down crying and told him everything, lucifer mentally facepalmed for not listening to his gut before
he will find you a great therapist if you want one, lucifer hopes you'll gradually feel better, he's afraid there isn't much he can do on his own and it hurts his pride
Diavolo
he definitely thought it was a bit odd for a human to participate in kind of dangerous activities, like leaning really far back in a chair that wasn't made for those things
but diavolo didn't think those actions had concerning roots in suicidal thoughts
also when you'd seem frustrated out of the blue, he just assumed you had a bad day or something
eventually all these little worrying traits of yours piled up into a mountain of warning signs, that was when diavolo decided to talk about it
part of him didn't want to start this conversation, what if there's nothing wrong? or worse, what if something is wrong? what does he do? can he help?
the worst case scenario was true: you were actually suicidal
the prince wants to help, but what can he do other than show you gestures of affection, is that enough to help? do you need a professional?
Barbatos
even though barbatos is a really observant demon, he does tend to get consumed by his work, neglecting everything else
you were a little mentally unwell before, but lately it's gotten so much worse
it seemed like there was no light at the end of the tunnel, every day you felt a little better, somehow you felt extra shitty the next day, the cycle never ended
you can't see hope, that's how you ended up in the demon lord's bathroom with some pills
luckily barbatos walked in on you because he had to clean in there, who knows how it would have ended otherwise
the usually collected demon has a hard time keeping his cool, he hates himself for not paying attention to you
could he have prevented this? what led up to this?
the butler doesn't know what to do
Simeon
he thought you were just in a dip, suicide didn't seem like a possibility to him
simeon tried many little things to cheer you up, like bringing you your favorite flowers or cooking your favorite food
but nothing seemed to make you happy again, how bad is this dip?
it hit him what was going on the night he tried to take you to your favorite restaurant
you refused to leave your room, begging simeon to leave you alone and even insulting him when you got too upset
'mc, you haven't been outside in a week, and you haven't been eating well-'
he knows other angels who went through this, oh no are you depressed? he straight up asked you, but you blurted out you wanted to die
if you're not too mad at him, he'll come and hold you, offering to listen to all your frustrations, that's sadly all he can do
Satan
he's read a ton of books, suicide being a topic in some of them, so satan notices the signs really fast
you seemed to be spaced out a lot, and lately you experienced zero pleasure in things you used to love
you physically felt sick, your chest was heavy, there seemed to be no point in carrying on if it had to be like this
satan took you somewhere safe and let you know he's there for you if you want to talk, he also probably knows a therapist or two
when you confirm his suspicions, he genuinely doesn't know how to approach the situation despite all the mental health books he's read
if you want to talk to a trained professional, he can get you one in less than an hour
Beelzebub
after the celestial war, beel probably had his suicidal moments from the guilt
he recognised his 'symptoms' in you immediately, and man he knows how awful those feel
but, how would you want to be treated in the moment? do you want him to ask you about it or would that upset you?
so beel tries to do little things that would make your day a little better
'mc, which flavor of chips do you want? I got sour cream and cheese'
eventually he will directly talk to you about it
if you're really hopeless, beel will tell you it always gets better, relapsing is part of recovery and he himself is living proof that things will get better

“Hey, Eugene,” you greeted the scraggly man seemingly waiting outside Maria’s office, “have you seen Joel? Did he come in with you?”
Eyes widening a moment at your sudden appearance, he straightened up and muttered, “I, uh, I think he’s probably checking up on Ellie, so you should properly go there.”
“Uh, no, I actually just checked there, just in case. She said she saw him ride in this morning, but haven’t heard from him since,” fear suddenly flooding your senses, you asked tensely, “is he okay? Did something happen? Is that why the shift took so long this time? Is he in the infirmary?”
“No, no,” he raised his inked hand up in reassurance, “plum, he’s fine, he’s probably just busy.”
Looking him up and down, your head tilted slightly as you noticed just how tense he was and how his waiting in front of the door almost looked like he was guarding it…
“Why are you acting so weird?”
“Me?” he forced a chuckle, “I’m not acting weird. Just go home. If I spot him, then I’ll send him your way, promise.”
“What’s going on in there?” you nodded to the heavy door, firmly blocked by his frame.
“Nothing’s going on,” he said a bit too quickly, “I don't know what you’re talking about.”
“Then why are you guarding the door?”
“I am not guarding the door.”
“Oh, yeah?” you squinted your eyes, huffing out a heated breath, “then let me in. Let me go talk to Maria.”
“Maria’s not in there right now.”
“Really? Then who’s in there?” you asked, receiving nothing but silence, “let me in, Eugene.”
“Can’t do that, plum. Just do me a favour, go home, relax-”
“Don’t fucking tell me to relax,” you roared, ripping your arm away as he tried to reach out for you.
Searching his tense eyes, your mind came to a conclusion quicker than you had the chance to catch it happening in real time, and before you knew it, your fist came down upon his temple, knocking him out cold.
As you creaked the door open, you heard Joel’s low voice before you saw him, “I’m gonna ask you nicely one last time, where is your group? We know that you moved, so where to?”
Rounding the corner, your entire body froze in shock as you saw him kneeling in front of a bloodied man strapped to a chair, a man you never thought you’d see again.
“Fuck you, man,” the beaten guy spat, “I ain’t saying shit.”
A high-pitched, guttural wail erupted throughout the room as Joel twisted the knife logged in the man’s thigh, his body shaking against the tight binds at the excruciating pain.
“Plum,” Tommy, standing in the corner, gasped, though your eyes didn’t falter their intense stare, didn’t even blink, watching the familiar man cry out as the knife was yanked out.
Whirling around in horror, Joel straightened up as soon as he saw you, attempting to block the person from your view, “what are you-”
But your hand promptly shooting out, warning them to stop talking, worked. Your cold eyes still locked on the dazed man, his bruised eyes slowly blinking open to look back at you, a disgusting grin immediately blooming on his bloodied face.
“As I live and breathe,” he snarled, the thick blood in his throat gurgling his sentence, “the bitch is back…” he scanned you lewdly, swollen eyes panning over your petrified form, “gotta give it to you, slipping out from under our noses in the bustles of the move, that was pretty smart, though we all just assumed you’d been ripped to shreds by a hoard of clickers, but I see now that you still can’t be killed. Resilient little cunt, this one is,” he clicked his tongue, “what, have you come back for more? Missed me that much?”
Slowly, your vision never wavering, you turned your palm up before your partner, finally peeling your eyes off the man a moment to glance coldly at Joel, wordlessly asking him to give you the knife in his hand, still dripping with crimson.
“I don’t know if that’s the best idea-” the rest of Tommy’s timid words got crushed as you swiftly glared at him as if he was next.
Reluctantly, you eventually felt the weight of the weapon being placed in your open palm. With vile tickling the back of your throat, you slowly stepped closer to the restrained man, your jaw quivering as he continued to speak out of turn.
“Real shame that you never made it, never got to see Noah’s big plan in person,” such a short name, yet such a big wave that crashed into you, “he misses you, by the way,” the man glanced up at you through his stringy blonde hair, clinging to his forehead, the very tips stained red by the blood oozing from his various nasty wounds, “we all miss you…”
Your whole being felt completely numb, almost as if you were dreaming. Never letting your horrified glare falter, you lowered yourself down in front of him, getting on his level and crouching at his bound feet.
With the knife heavy in your hand, your fingers tightened around the handle as he dared to utter smugly, “yeah, that’s it,” he tried to spread his thighs apart, “you’ve missed your daddy, I can see it…”
Wordlessly, your face still akin to a statue, you grabbed onto two of his grimy fingers and swiftly bent them back forcefully enough for there to sound a nasty crack, his sharp cry not affecting you in the slightest as you determinedly straightened the broken fingers back out. Notching the knife right beneath the knuckles, looking him in the eye, you watched his face contort in agony as the sharp blade sliced clean through his digits, letting them roll onto the floor as he screamed.
Before he could catch a break, you reached up and sliced one of his cauliflowered ears off, listlessly letting it tumble off and join the severed digits on the floor.
Unexpectedly, throughout all the grunts and groans, the vile man erupted in laughter, throwing his head back as the crimson spewed from his gashes, “that all you got? Come on,” he had the nerve to wink at you, “give me a little sugar, dolly.”
He didn’t deserve to just die. He didn’t deserve that mercy. He deserved to understand. To be broken by the severity of his actions. To live out the rest of his days in agony knowing that no matter what he did, he would never be able to pay for what he had done, simply live in the consequential void of despair.
The bridge of your nose twitched as the tip of the blade sank into his groin, stabbing him repeatedly till your fervent strikes grew sloppy, angling up to his abdomen, and you were out of breath, panting as you saw the life leave his eyes.
Still completely silent, you stayed there, staring at his lifeless expression, your shoulders heaving with every painful breath.
Sluggishly, you pulled the weapon out of where it was still lodged in the man’s lower stomach, shakily clutching it in your stained hand as you stood back up. Knees nearly buckling from under you, you turned for the others to see your pale face, lumbering slowly towards the exit as if they weren’t even there at all.
As Joel carefully stepped closer to your slow-moving form, he didn’t get to try anything as you swiftly dropped the blood-soaked knife back into his hand and continued your painful trek out the door, not glancing up at his horrified face for even a moment.
Breaking the deafening silence, Tommy warily said, “he never told us where they-”
Whirling around, the sharp slap that your numb palm planted across his cheek cut his sentence short, fury still alive in your cold eyes as you stared at your friend, struggling to comprehend that he had actually dared to pull something like this without your knowledge. That both of them had.
As you turned your back on them again, he cautiously continued to speak, “you could have just let us have two seconds with him, we’d still have let you finish him off, if that’s what you wanted to.”
Your voice was hoarse as you finally spoke again, “he would have never told you where they are,” facing the door, you revealed to them, “and besides that, you didn’t need him. I already know where they are.”

Got an Idea
In the world of "Bite Me" vampires are real tiny parasitic things, right? But they're still vampires. Does that mean there are people like paranormal hunters or something? There's so much potential in these...
THIS IS A GREAT QUESTION!
So to avoid spoilers I'm going to be pretty vague-
Vampires in the Bite Me universe are abnormal but not paranormal (though I will be doing a paranormal au because there is SO MUCH potential so by all means I can try to answer some more trad vampire stuff if talking about the potential au).
THOUGH- that doesn't mean that the tiny lil bloodsucking activity has gone completely unnoticed right? I mean, Aedes can't possibly be the only vampire who's been caught...
A BIT MORE ELABORATION
Vampires are completely normal biologically speaking, in that they don't have supernatural powers. The vampires in the Bite Me universe are essentially just a type of well adapted parasite. Some lil tidbits about their biology-
⚠ Nerd Alert ⚠
They are nocturnal- and hunt at night. Their eyes are adapted for low light conditions, though they can still move freely in the light.
They have an instinctual fear towards light (feels open, the feeling of being watched etc...) essentially to avoid predation by animals or being spotted by humans
Vampires have keen senses (hearing, smell, taste, sight) and phenomenal reaction time in order to help hunt. With their processing speed and keen senses, unless you catch one in the act or manage to corner/trap one, vampires are extremely hard to catch by just grabbing (cough cough, unless a certain lil someone likes to be grabbed) His senses dull when not in active "bloodlust" in order to keep the mind from being perpetually overwhelmed by everything all at once, though even dulled they are remarkably keen.
They are stronger than humans (relatively speaking), and quite durable. They have a high density of fast twitch muscles that helps further bolster their reaction time.
I've dabbled with the possibly of them having mild electroreception (basically in order to have a 6th sense towards heart beats as the muscle contracts) BUUUT I want to play around with the speculative biology with that. Mammals don't typically have an electrosense (more of a fish thing) but there are exceptions- yet those are still water based (with the semi exception of the echidna) so I'd have to do some pretty hefty playing around if I wanted to make it work.
They're allergic to garlic (along with a lot of other foods). Carnivorous, especially blood based parasitic diets leave an organism with an extremely reduced gut (Fun fact, theres actually a reason behind Aedes' slutty lil waist 😭) so they typically lack the ability to digest some harsher irritants, garlic being a big one. The smell is also extremely pungent so, yes, it absolutely will keep Aedes away (though it would have to be crushed)
Vampires in Bite Me do have one ability that feels almost supernatural- they are natural mimics. Vampires have incredible vocal control and ranges. This is incredibly useful to both ward off predators and lure in prey. Because of this- there are some typical tactics they use to avoid being caught (Some in more remote regions will mimic a rattlesnake rattle to deter a person from coming closer if they get spotted- and are usually able to slip away while the human calls pest control). This skill has led to both folklore and urban legends, about weird sounds occurring in strange locations. With their speed and skills in avoiding detection, a person would likely assume their house is haunted well before thinking theres a little vampire running around their house
Typically their bite is mildly numbing- though a very small number of people have a mutation that makes the numbing nearly completely ineffective (June being one of them). In that case, the numbing tends to work against its intended purpose- the numbing instead being noticeably tingling, and without the numbing agent, the anticoagulation factors and vasodilators within the saliva increase sensation in tandem with the increased bloodflow to the bite area, as well as giving the overall area a warm sensation.
WHEW
That was a chunky lore dump.

About the alpha — Multifandom
Tumblr media
Notes: This is in no way, shape, or form how you have to imagine their meetings or who they are in my writings, I always try to keep these vague, but in case you want to know how I think their story and meeting with the omegas would go.
I will do Inuyasha's characters separately, cause I think of so many ways they could meet each other, and that's to all of the characters.
Warnings: might have grammar errors, heavy spoilers on HTTYD, and mild on Voltron (principally Shiro's and Lotor's)
Now I must explain this first, when I make a Character x Reader I don't normally include the other characters having an Alpha(Reader), so if in certain scenarios where they would be the "same person" just think of two different universes.
I'm also aware that some of these might change significantly or completely the plotline of their anime/series.
» Voltron:
For Keith and Lance, I imagine the alpha being an Altean who was with Coran and Allura, more specifically Allura's older brother (by a maximum of 5 years).
For Hunk the alpha is another race of aliens, I cannot choose between Galra and Olkari, so maybe a hybrid of both. I just know I would love for his alpha to be a Blade of Marmora member.
For Shiro is a lot more simple, they would be a human, either part of the Atlas crew or a civilian he met after the war. If he met them before the Cerberus mission (like Adam), I do think Alpha would also go to the mission.
Now for Lotor is more complicated, I would love for him to have a childhood friend with who he fell in love in the future, but for that to happen they would have to be Galra and I don't know if he would fall in love with a Galra considering what he said about them on his close to last moments. So he might fall in love before his hatred started, that's the only way this could ever work.
» Stardew Valley:
Obviously, for both Sam and Sebastian, the alpha would be the new farmer, but I think the way they would meet is different.
While Sam has seen the farmer around town and pretty early on have talked to them and become friends, that's a little more difficult for Sebastian, who spends most of his days inside his room.
So the farmer will have heard of him by Sam and Robin, maybe even Abigail and Maru, but has never seen him. The first time they see each other is on a rainy day when Sebastian decides to go to the beach.
» How To Train Your Dragon:
Hiccup and Snotlout would only date someone who's from Berk, preferably a fellow Dragon Rider. For Dagur we have two ways, either alpha was a dragon hunter and redeem themselves with Dagur, or they're a Defender of the Wing member who worked close to the Dragon Riders on some missions (I love Dagur and Mala as a couple, even though it was kind of rushed).
For Viggo, he would only date a Dragon Hunter, but they would've only become one because of him, they wouldn't feel pleasure in killing or slaving dragons. When he went to hide after falling into the volcano, he would have made his alpha hide with him, and on his redeem, they both would die.
» Boku no Hero:
For all three of them (Bakugou, Todoroki, and Kirishima), their alpha is in the hero support class and they're the ones responsible for their omega's hero suit. Or they're at a maximum a civilian, I cannot see them dating another hero, I don't know why.
» Nanbaka:
These are quite simple also, for Musashi and Liang alpha would have to be an inmate, but not for a serious crime like murder, maybe they're in for robbery (for survival) or for escaping arrest/prison.
For Hajime, they would either be a civilian who visits him from time to time, or another guard as long as their relationship doesn't affect their work.
Enki depends on the time, if they met when he was a guard then they would have to be a guard, but if they met when he became an inmate, then they would also have to be an inmate.

2.1 Penacony thoughts [part1]
Tumblr media
**Mild spoiler warning** until the first moment we switch to Aventurine’s POV in the story and I don’t think much has happened yet, but if you haven’t reached that point yet, then turn away anyway if you wish I’m just gonna ramble a bit here and toss my thoughts into the void for my own reference.
Firstly, the return of the odd yellow text and Aventurine calling us ~fuh-riends~ in that hilarious and exaggerated tone of his.
Tumblr media
Makes me wonder whom else has perished during their time in Penacony, and if it’s true, then the Family certainly has experience with covering such things up which raises many other concerns. Also gives me another reason to not fully trust Sunday.
Tumblr media
Oh teehee~ We got Aventurine’s number. And some extra credits due to my responses, HA. sugardaddy
Tumblr media
As we learned from a beautifully animated dance animation, Black Swan certainly knows how dangerous Acheron can be.
Tumblr media
he whole flashback with Duke & Acheron was pretty good. It at least gives us more context rather than us being told he was killed offscreen, but still confirms the dude is dead, though he mentions the kids are alive, somehow. Duke also guessed that Acheron’s an Emanator (though he’s wrong about which path), then there was some important music box that gets brought up later on, and Acheron speaks of her sword that has indeed been sheathed this entire time, even during the 2.0 story.
Tumblr media
At the very end of the scene it fades to black and Acheron full says: “May death be the end of your boundless dream, guiding you back to the waking world,” which I remember is the exact thing she said after witnessing Firefly’s death.
Tumblr media
Sweetie, you’re a big mystery but it does not surprise me in the slightest to learn that you’re wanted by the IPC after witnessing your power in your many trailers. Hearing her speak about the Stellaron Hunters though made me think back to her character trailer, since I wondered if she even knew who was attacking her in the first place, but perhaps she did, even if the trio was nothing but Sparkle’s tricky illusions.
Tumblr media
It was kinda funny seeing her get lost occasionally in the hotel during the previous story update, but now I feel bad knowing that she has horrible memory. Having to rely on your emotions seems quite challenging if you don’t have a good control of them, but she seems to be fairing well enough.
Tumblr media
Tell us your suspicions Acheron! I mean, I have my guesses as well, but I’d take your word over anyone else’s.
Tumblr media
It was at this moment where I had a real random idea and thought, “huh, could this be Boothill?” I found it strange how they revealed him to us when we haven’t even met the dude in game yet, like he really came in outta nowhere for me. But seeing Sam again and realizing how both of them have robotic bodies.. I dunno. I thought it could’ve been an extra set of armor or something.
Tumblr media
Of course it makes no sense, since Sam & Boothill have different voice actors anyways, but still, the way Acheron speaks so familiar to him, as if they were both truly galaxy rangers, gave me second thoughts for just a brief moment. Nothing more. Just a small silly idea.
Tumblr media
The return of the worrisome red text, capable of causing anxiety even through such a small word. With her horrible memory, I assume she’s not even sure what she’s supposed to be doing in life, so asking about Elio’s script and if she’s included made me think she’s trying to learn about her purpose and her own goals.
Tumblr media
Say it loud, mom! We shall NOT. TRUST. ANYONE! And at this moment I seriously don’t. If they ain’t from the Express then you’re sus. Case closed.
Tumblr media
Glad to see Danny boy lending us a helping hand from the train, but red text begone! First learning about how Acheron has terrible memory and now we can’t even remember her well? That can’t be good.
Tumblr media
I firmly believed that if you die in the dream, you would just wake up in real life, so thank whatever Aeon you fancy that we’re finally getting the idea to head back into reality to confirm if Firefly and Robin are still alive. Maybe we should check up on those couple npcs that passed away during side quests too.
Tumblr media
The way I held my breath.. I don’t even know much about HI3 but I’m aware our grandpa is more or less the same guy, so seeing him interact with some like Acheron, oh dear. The way Acheron still didn’t reveal her true name to him made me more wary too. I get she might not even remember, because poor memory, but hmmm.
Tumblr media
I can understand her having some Stellaron Hunter knowledge because she’s wanted just like them, but ma’am why do you know this?? especially since the Family doesn’t even know the truth about Welt’s cane apparently.
Tumblr media
Can’t lie, a fight between him and Acheron would be a spectacle. Who do you think would win?
Tumblr media
Again, how does she know this? Has she been chatting with Aventurine? because he figured out our stellaron last patch too.
Tumblr media
First thought: yay, she’s worried about us. Second thought: why would she be concerned about Black Swan? Shouldn’t it be the other way around after their dance? Third thought: What exactly is Black Swan capable of and how frightened should I be right now? Fourth thought: Acheron, why do you know so much about others??
Tumblr media
So this music box.. why exactly does Black Swan have it now? Didn’t Acheron snatch it from Duke Inferno? Was she planning to give it to BS, or did memokeeper steal it off her? I dunno.
Tumblr media
Is it me or does it feel like she’s talking to someone else? Another memokeeper? Or just to herself for dramatic effect? Either way, who exactly are we expecting to show up?
Tumblr media
I honestly was getting a bit creeped out during this scene, from the weird camera angles the game was giving is to seeing Black Swan not understand what was going on or who was speaking to her. I actually started fearing for her life and I made a stunning realization that if they killed off BS I would actually freak out. Surprisingly, I wasn’t too upset over Firefly (we didn’t spend much time with her), but it feels like we’ve know BS for longer you know? Ever since that trailer about all the Aeons.
Tumblr media
I can hear Luocha somewhere in the distance going “the dead return!” I tease, but actually hearing one of those from Ever-Flame Mansion call out to BS was a bit confusing? Duke said his kids were alive, sure, but BS is looking at past memories attached to the music box, right? So I’m still a bit on the fence regarding who out of the kids are actually alive. Maybe some, maybe all. Maybe I’m being played for a fool and thinking about it too much.
Tumblr media
How many of y’all got excited to see Ratio interact with Aventurine again? I know you people are out there. Anyways, hearing about how Robin had a stand-in leads me to believe her death was planned, which would upset me greatly because what did that precious lady ever do to anyone??
Tumblr media
It’s crazy this man has actually tried several times to end himself inside the dreams, like bro what if you actually succeeded?? At least this shod bring us some relief that Firefly and Robin are okay? Hopefully? I’ll believe when I see them.
Tumblr media
I freakin' knew there was something wrong with her voice!! The first couple times we meet her you can tell her voice sounded off, like it was glitching out or something. It’s not very easy to hear, but the difference between the real Robin and Sparkle impersonating Robin towards the end of the last patch sounded different. No wonder Sunday picked up on Sparkle’s trick so easily.
Tumblr media
Soooo, that’s pretty much everything I went through after the update hit. Unfortunately it isn’t much but adulting is a drag. Of course I’m looking forward to continuing the story later on. Starting with these men again will be a treat too.

This isn't a request for a tickle fic so I hope you are okay with writing it! I just wanted to request a fic were Leo and Yuno had revealed the fact that they are in a relationship so Yuno takes Leo to hage so he can meet everyone!
Ahh, my weakness! *vibrates at an inhuman speed* I'm so normal about them I swear! aerajrjheakjreaj No but really- this is a delight of a prompt and I'm beyond happy to make it for you, anon! I hope you like it!
CW: Mild angst, mentions of homophobia VERY LIGHT SPOILER WARNING: Black Clover Eps. 71-72 (It's incredibly vague- there's no real details but I'm gonna put it out there just in case)
Cloud 9 (Taglist peeps):
@duckymcdoorknob
“Come to Hage with me!”
When Yuno first offered the suggestion to Leopold, he was excited. It’d been some time since he’d seen his family, and the idea of sharing a part of himself with Leopold felt right.
Then excitement turned to unyielding anxiety in a matter of hours as he realized he had no idea HOW he was going to do that.
The planning wasn’t the difficult part- both Captains Fuegoleon and William were fine with it, and they even managed to rope Captain Yami into letting Asta and Noelle tag along. Letters were sent, and the responses have been nothing but positive from Sister Lily and Father Orsi . The actual trip was set.
It was the whole- you know- coming out thing. All this time later, and he still hadn’t told them. Yuno felt his stomach twist into a thousand knots as he watched Hage’s green hills get closer in the distance, willing himself not to shake.
“You’re gonna love it there! Our siblings are a riot, but they’ll get used to you pretty fast.” Asta was filling the mildly tense air with chatter, giving Leopold and Noelle the details about their family. A few times the redhead would look his way, smiling brightly at him. That helped- somewhat.
“You okay?” Leopold floated over on his broom, voice pitched low so the others wouldn’t hear him. “You look like you’re gonna puke.”
“Motion sickness?” Yuno offered, wincing when his voice shook..
“You’re nervous huh?” He smiled, bumping him gently. “I’m a bit too. Do you…do you think they’ll like me?”
“You’re like a second Asta. They’ll adore you.” Yuno grinned, earning a laugh and a light shove from Leopold. “Really- I do think they’ll like you. Both of you.” He nodded back to where Asta and Noelle were, their voices acting as background noise.
“Thanks.” Leopold leaned over, giving him a quick peck before returning to the original pair, Asta’s “WHERE HERE!” snapping him back to reality.
It’ll be fine. Yuno took a breath, forcing a smile. Everything is going to be fine.
He hoped.
~~~
“YUNO! ASTA!” Recca all but squealed upon seeing the three brooms above. “Everyone- Asta and Yuno are back!”
Within seconds of touching the ground, they were swarmed. Squeals of glee rang out from Arlu and Holo as they bull-tackled Asta, clinging to his legs and jumping up with grabby hands. Recca practically squeezed the life out of Yuno, her frizzy red hair almost to his chin- when did she get so tall? Sister Lily came out soon after, tears in her eyes as she hugged both of them just as tight. By the door, Father Orsi laughed, patting Nash on the head as they waited their turn to get their hugs.
It was a mess of limbs and hugs and kisses and ear shattering screams of glee from the youngest kids.. Yuno took it all in, nostalgia and warmth mixing in his chest as he reunited with his family. God, he missed them all so much.
“Welcome home, boys.” Orsi smiled when he managed to get in, hugging them both before patting their heads. “Though I should call you two men- after everything you’ve been through. Still; no matter how old you two get, you’ll always be the squishy cheeked babies I remember when you first arrived.”
“Father Orsi, come on! I’m so much bigger now since being a baby!” Asta huffed, unable to stay annoyed. Yuno laughed softly, willing his ears to stop burning. It didn’t help that Leopold was snickering in the background, clearly pleased.
“I suppose so- now, who are these fine people you two brought?” He asked, looking out towards Noelle and Leopold. Yuno’s stomach twisted once more, the anxiety he was just beginning to forget about piercing him like an arrow. Right- introductions. It was time.
“This is Noelle! Fellow Black Bull and royalty!” Asta cheerfully introduced Noelle, pulling her closer to the group. “She’s a really cool water mage! If you’re lucky- she might show you some tricks!”
“Dorksta- don’t go promoting me like I’m some sort of circus act!” Noelle fussed, cheeks red and mildly annoyed. From the group, some of the kids giggled. “Erm, it’s nice to meet you all.”
“Your girlfriend’s pretty, Dorksta!” Holo declared, making Noelle flush crimson with a squeak. Sister lily scowled him gently but Asta took it in stride, laughing with the rest of his siblings at the nickname. When the chatter died down, all eyes turned to Yuno and Leopold.
It’ll be fine.
“Leopold Vermillion! Nice to meet you all!” Leopold declared proudly, all smiles. The children were hooked almost immediately, eyes shining. “I’m Yuno’s-” He paused then, turning to the other. There was a question in his eyes. Is this okay?
Yuno felt his heart squeeze so hard it hurt. Leopold was giving him the chance to lie- to just say he was Yuno’s good friend. To work up the courage later and tell them another time. He was grateful for the redhead at that moment.
“He’s my boyfriend.” Yuno finished. Alas- as grateful as he was; he had to do it. Leopold had already agreed to keep it a secret in the past- he wasn’t gonna put him through all that again . “We’ve been dating for a while now.”
Faces morphed into surprise- Father Orsi’s brows shot up and Sister Lily blinked. Recca and Nash’s mouths formed into “o” shapes, while Arlu and Holo were too busy hovering around Noelle to notice. Even Asta looked surprised- and he knew already. Yuno waited, pleading with whomever was listening for- what- the ground to swallow him up? For lighting to strike him down? For Captain William to call and suddenly announce a task only Yuno could fill and save him from this awkward situation?
“Well, this was unexpected.” Father Orsi was the first to speak, his shock fading into  warmth as he came over, shaking Leopold’s hand. “It’s a pleasure to meet you, Leopold.”
“I recognize the name- are you related to Mimosa Vermillion?” Sister Lily recovered just as fast, smiling brightly. “She’s a darling, that one.”
“Oh yeah- she’s mine and Noelle’s cousin.” Leopold fell into easy chatter with them, bright as the sun as they asked about his team and family. Recca wiggled past the adults to Yuno’s side, her hand finding his as she leaned into his arm.
“Is he good to you?” She asked. Yuno took a shaky breath before nodding.
“He’s very good. The best man I’ve ever met.” Recca’s hand squeezed his in return, her face softening to a happy grin.
“Okay. Then I like him.” She decided. Yuno felt his throat tighten some as he leaned over, kissing her brow.
Asta and Noelle were soon dragged into the chatter. Before long, everyone was comfortable around everyone.
All but Nash, who hovered just outside the group with a pinched expression.
~~~
“It was so HOT! And dangerous too- there were so many cliffs and rocks, and the ground was carved with lava!” Asta stood before the group, retelling his adventures to his siblings- complete with standing tall and raising his arms high to emphasize his point. “There were so many instances where I was sure I wasn’t gonna make it! One wrong move, and your future Wizard King would have been as cooked as a Hage Potato!”
“I’m surprised you didn’t. I bet Yuno didn’t have any problems in that heat- not with his wind magic.” Recca grinned at her brother, earning a small smile in return. “I bet you were cool as the snow climbing that volcano!”
“Oh no, I just got lucky.” Yuno shrugged.
“Don’t be so humble- he was amazing!” Leopold grinned, joining Asta in retelling their adventures of Mereoleona’s training camp. “He was all- ZOOM! And we were all: ‘Whaaaat’ and he was all- “I’m so cool, look at me.’”
“Yeah yeah! Definitely!” Asta agreed, earning a round of laughter from the kids. “Noelle looked cool too!”
“What? Oh- don’t just say those things, Dorksta!” She huffed, cheeks pink but clearly pleased. Arlu and Holo were  fast asleep against her lap, likely dreaming of the small water dragons Noelle created for their entertainment . Despite her earlier complaints about being an attraction, it didn’t take long at all for her to give in and play with them. Yuno felt a new appreciation for the water mage. “I guess you were kinda cool too…”
“Oh goodness- I can’t imagine going through that myself!” Sister Lily laughed around her tea mug, fanning away the imaginary heat. “You two have been getting so strong since you went to the capital.”
“That’s our boys!” Orsi agreed, raising a cup of what Yuno suspected wasn’t water. He didn’t mind though- it was nice sitting with everyone again. Though, there was still something wrong.
Throughout the day, Nash had been fairly quiet, not talking much at all during dinner or the time before. He’d always been a calmer soul, but Yuno couldn’t help but suspect he was angry. There was this clear tension radiating off of him that prickled at Yuno’s skin all throughout the day- especially tense during dinner when they were all sitting together.
Yuno tried to brush it off as discomfort of new people, but sitting here now- Nash nowhere in sight, his thoughts got the better of him.
Did Nash…not accept him?
Slipping away from the group, he went to find him, scared of what he’d find but determined to get to the bottom of it.
~~~
“Nash?” Yuno called out, finding his brother sitting on the back steps of the church. “There you are.”
“Oh, hey Yuno.” The younger boy looked back at him, his face and voice calm as ever. In his hands he was playing with a tree branch, picking at the bark and pulling at the leaves. “Got overwhelmed in there?”
“A bit. I actually came to find you.” Yuno began to walk over but stopped, suddenly unsure of himself. What if he sat down beside him and Nash walked away? Maybe he should…
“Why are you hovering? It’s not like we’re strangers.” Nash nodded at the spot beside him. Yuno flushed as he sat down, shamed. Why was this suddenly so difficult?
Silence hung between them, charged with something Yuno couldn’t quite put his finger on that did nothing to ease his nerves. He went to find words, but his throat felt tight, locking away his vocal cords. He needed to say it. “Nash…are you mad?”
Nash didn’t reply, though the slow pace he was working at with his stick sped up, growing slightly more aggressive. Ah, so he was.
“Are you mad…at me?” Yuno asked, feeling his heart sink when the picking grew. “Did I do something wrong?”
The stick shook. Nash’s calm expression grew pinched. “You didn’t tell us.”
There it was. Yuno bowed his head. “I’m sorry.”
“Don’t- don’t apologize.” Nash tossed the stick aside, turning so he could face Yuno properly. “I don’t want an apology. I just want to know why. You know us- we’re your family! That’s never gonna change, so why…why didn’t you tell us sooner?” Nash huffed, shoulders drooping. “Did you not…trust us?”
“What- no, not at all!” Yuno winched, hating how sad his brother sounded. “It’s not that at all. I just…” He was about to ramble when he stopped, taking a breath. This was Nash- clever, understanding Nash. He might as well be honest. “I was scared.”
“Of us?” Nash blinked, tilting his head.
“Of how you’d all react.” Yuno nodded, turning to look at his knees. “Back at the capital, there are some incredible people there. But there’s also a lot of cruel ones too. Leopold- he came out before me, and I still think about some of the awful things said about him. Some were said about me too- both behind my back and to my face. I try not to care about them- they already have problems with me being a commoner, but…”
“You were scared we’d react the same way.” Nash spoke softly, voice barely over a whisper. Yuno winced, nodding.
“I know now it was irrational,, but at the time- when I first started figuring myself out and being with Leopold; I was just so…terrified. I couldn’t bring myself to say it in a letter- I needed to know in person how you’d all react. I didn’t want to come home and be treated like a stranger. That…that would hurt.” Yuno felt his eyes sting, his throat closing with unshed tears. “I’m sorry. I wish I had the courage to say it sooner, but…I didn’t. I’m sorry I made you think you couldn’t be trusted, and I’m sorry-”
“Stop.” Nash scooted over, resting his head against Yuno’s shoulder. “You’re shaking.” He took his hand in his own, two small warm ones holding Yuno’s icy limb. “Just breathe, Yuno.”
Yuno willed himself to do so, taking slow deep breaths one after another as he forced himself to calm down. He hadn’t realized just how close to a panic attack he was getting. Nash’s voice guided him back to reality, his hands still squeezing Yuno’s as the older boy collected himself. “Sorry…”
“Didn’t I just say to stop that?” Nash gave him a look, eyes softening after a moment. Silence passed before he spoke again. “You don’t have to apologize- it doesn’t seem like an easy thing to talk about. If anything- I’m sorry for getting so mad about it. Even if it took awhile, I’m glad you were able to tell us now.”
Yuno didn’t trust his voice, opting to squeeze Nash’s shoulder. Nash took this as a sign to continue.
“You know- I don’t even think that part is what made me upset. I’m really happy you found that Leopold guy, and I’m happy you and Asta are living your lives. I guess it’s just…everytime you and Asta come home, so much has happened. One minute you’re heading out to the capital, the next, you’re these powerful Magic Knights with cool abilities and war stories. I feel like there’s just so much..missing between. Like those old books someone donated that had chapters missing.” Nash dropped some, shaking his head. “That was probably stupid to listen to, huh?”
“Not at all. I think I get it.” Yuno nodded, finding his voice as he turned towards the skyline. “I’m sorry about that. Things happen so fast there, and when I go to write, I never know what to say. That and I’d hate to give Sister Lily a heart attack with the gorey details.” That earned a small smile from Nash. Yuno felt his chest loosen. “I’ll try to be better about keeping you guys updated. And I’ll try to visit more often.”
“Promise?” Nash peeked up at him. Yuno raised his pinky. Without hesitation, Nash curled his own around it.
“Promise.” Yuno gave it a little shake, the same way they did when Nash was real young. Just like that, the knots in his stomach vanished. He could breathe again.
“Thanks Yuno. Though, can I ask you something?” Nash leaned in conspiratory-like, brows furrowing. “What made you fall for him? Don’t get me wrong- he seems great, but he’s like a second Asta- just so…loud.”
Yuno snorted, hand slapping over his mouth as he shook with mirth. Nash grinned, giggling alongside his brother.
“I suppose that’s a good place to start.” Yuno got out once he recovered. The rest of the night he shared the tale with Nash, the tale of how he and Leopold came to be.
~~~
“There you are. We really do have a fondness for fields, don’t we?” Leopold laughed as he flopped down beside Yuno, the stars bright above and the air chilled. Yuno was lying on his back, hands tucked behind his head as he reflected on the day’s events. Overall- it all went well.
“That’s true. We’ll have to change it up soon. How about a beach day next time?” Yuno suggested, grinning when Leopold made a face.
“No way- I’m still finding sand in inconvenient places.” Shaking his head, he flopped backwards and into Yuno’s chest, snuggling close. “Thanks for inviting me out. Your family’s great!”
“Told you they’d love you.” Yuno hugged him close, skittering his nails against his back. “I’m glad you came. They’re gonna be talking about you and Noelle for months.”
“Hehe, better send some presents then. Gotta keep my “cool older brother” rep with the kiddos.” Leopold closed his eyes, melting against his boyfriend’s hand. “Hey…this is kinda dumb but..thanks for introducing me as your boyfriend. I would have gone with the whole friend thing if you weren’t ready to tell them, but…It made me really happy.”
“It’s not dumb at all. And I appreciate you so much for that. Still…I wanted to tell them. Regardless of what happened, I wanted them to know you as my boyfriend. It was really scary, but I’m glad I did it. I feel so…relieved.” Yuno nodded,  satisfied with his choice of words as he played with Leopold’s braid. “Was it like that for you when you came out to your siblings?”
“Honestly? I can’t remember. When I came out, I was so scared of chickening out I busted into Fuegoleon’s office and shouted it at the top of my lungs. Sis must have heard me from down the hall cause she yelled back “Good for you!” and Fuegoleon wasn’t fazed in the slightest. I think they both already knew.” Leopold laughed at the memory, smiling to himself. “I’m so lucky to have the siblings I have. I don’t know what I’d do without them.”
“Yeah…” Yuno hummed in agreement, letting that settle. It made him grateful for his siblings as well- and his comrades. How’d he get so lucky to find the people he met?
“So- it’s just the two of us now. Do you think anyone will be slipping out this evening?” Leopold asked, sitting up so they were eye to eye, a teasing grin on his lips. Yuno blinked before flushing some, feeling his eyes widen.
“Leo!”
“What? I’ve been good- I’ve held back all day from doing it.” He leaned in some, green eyes sparkling with warmth. “Now or never, right?”
Yuno rolled his eyes with a soft laugh, flicking his bangs away. “You’re a dork. Fine, come here.”
Leopold wasted no time pressing his lips against Yuno’s, pushing him back into the grass.
It was all as Yuno hoped it would be and more. He was so glad he came home.
Thanks for reading!

I think with the general public Ferrari is going to be received like Blackhat and some of its most piercing insights and subtext will go unremarked upon even by critics who should be able to intuit the figure in the carpet by now, I.E. that Mann has been making "deconstructionist antiwar films" with extraordinary consistency since The Jericho Mile. (I used that phrase as a joke with a friend last night but upon reflection it works pretty well lol.) In 10-15 years people will maybe see it better for what it is, as has been the case with a lot of his more recent work. People are also going to harp on his casting the way they did with Blackhat even though he makes these decisions for calculated and, again, consistent reasons that have to do with Hollywood as an industry and the manufacturing of stardom. This is a guy who has historically made very active use of intertext and audience expectation in who he pursues and ultimately casts (Caan, Pacino, De Niro, Cruise, Foxx, and definitely also Hemsworth who at that time was very strongly associated with his breakout role as Thor).
Cut for very mild spoilers:
After the tragic crash that ends the Mille Miglia, which Mann represents with unsparing brutality, much of the film's third act revolves around the investigation of the crash and whether the deaths of women and children will affect Ferrari's bottom line. Winning the Mille Miglia was the company's last gambit against impending insolvency, and though they have won, they may need to take on outside financing regardless in order to save the brand. It is clear that a potential mechanical failure also weighs on Ferrari's conscience, but when it is discovered that an external impact and not the tire's construction resulted in the accident, he quite easily compartmentalizes and rationalizes his role in the carnage. The car itself was just an instrument; it functioned as intended and in fact the only way it could be expected to function; blame lies on the other side. These things happen and it is part of the deal and cannot be helped.
I also keep thinking of a scene in the garage where he is talking to an old friend and close confidante. There are pigeons in a hutch right above where one of the cars is being worked on, and said confidante says that he accidentally left the door open and none of them have flown away because it's like they don't even realize that it exists. Ferrari suggests that the reason they don't leave is because "leaving" as the pigeons see it entails being turned into pie filling, so they ought better stay inside the hutch where it is safe.
Lots to think about after just this first pass and I've been steeping in those thoughts all day. And much more, inevitably, to organize upon subsequent viewings. I'll come back to this in December.

Looking at the wording when it’s brought up that Agatha and Simon got physical, it always picked my attention that it’s both vague as hell and never really defined in terms of “quantity.” “It was just going through the motions” could be the conclusion of a series of experiences or a single experience. “It was always going through the motions” would obviously refer to multiple instances. Same with “I’ve seen this before” vs “I have seen him like this so many times before.” (mild SFC spoilers are below the cut/marked as spoiler because I have SFC related thoughts) (the other things that happened in the story inspire my need not for analysis but for FICS. I’ll EAT those fics)
It occurs to me that this whole thing is treated more like a concept rather than something that’s concrete and defined. The closest it gets to defining the experience is during the hospital scene, where Simon has the instinct to cover himself from Agatha in a protective gesture (already raising alarm bells) while all his instincts are screaming for him to run (this is part of why it boggles my goddamn mind when it’s argued “horny boy was horny” in this case because “sex automatically means just good feelings/sensations” – the very thing the book questions – and boy is boy. look at this shit! my man was about to piss himself!! that’s when it’s first brought up! this shit ain’t right!) and Agatha feels strange. She expresses no desire – she felt responsibility here. On Simon’s side, the closest is that one paragraph that establishes the comparison through structure: he wasn’t in love, he wasn’t turned on. He didn’t want it. “This is what sex looked like for them,” it says there, but beyond that, it feels like it’s very purposely left for the reader to fill in the blanks (the right choice here I’d say). Hell, there might not even be more thought on this beyond what’s on the page.
I’m unfortunately the kind of reader that can’t leave shit like this alone – if you throw me something that puts me off and makes no sense (at least on the surface) I’m going to find out why. And what I think makes the most sense for them it’s that there might have been some mechanical fooling around here and there. Some curiosity and experimentation while trying to perform “a regular straight teen relationship,” in a way that feels uncomfortable but that would get downplayed (or not thought about ever in Simon’s case, you would never think he has ever done shit by the way he thinks before Baz) And honestly, nothing would be more fitting for those two than never being able to get each other off. (I made the case for Simon getting off for the first time in that scene with Baz, without his magic and all that.)
This is the only way it makes sense when you consider that 1. Simon’s crazy magic is a hell of a thing repressing him. No way he can get off without also going off. Wouldn’t be a problem if he wasn’t feeling turned on though and/or let his mind wander (dissociation would make feeling shit pretty difficult) 2. No way in hell Simon’s issues with intimacy start with Baz. Sure, there are new things he’s dealing with in WS, he’s re-traumatized in some ways, he has never consciously dealt with sexual desire before and his feelings for Baz are too overwhelming (he has never wanted anyone but Baz, he says). But the  he kind of “issues” that makes dissociation during a sexual situation common are issues Simon already had while dating her. If anything, unwanted experiences with Agatha where he pressured himself to go though would accentuate that. Can’t be a coincidence that Baz and Simon talk about this before they’re able to have sex, or that Simon says it at the very moment Baz is feeling the most vulnerable (while drinking) (Simon’s at his most vulnerable too) (whole thing is about exposing shame).
As for “going all the way,” I’d say it happened once and I quote @carryonsimoncarryonbaz “during Christmas break 7th year” (we’ve had so many convos sometimes I forget who said what haha). Simon says, as explanation (because he feels the need to explain) “we were together for a long time” – you don’t say that shit if you’re doing it a couple of months into the relationship, because how long you have been together wouldn’t be relevant in that case.
Why do I say once? First of all, logistics. You gotta remember these people didn’t have an awful lot of free time, even less Simon. His schedule was packed as hell. The argument that it had to have happened at least a couple dozen times or something is wild as hell to me because when the hell are they finding that time? Where would they do it at Watford like, realistically? Gay sex would’ve been easier there! they wouldn’t have the drive or the motivation to work to make it happen in non-ideal places. A simple kiss wouldn’t be leading to shit spontaneously. They don’t see each other during the summer break (when Simon pretends she doesn’t exist). They were left alone at her house sometimes, but not all the goddamn time, and Helen was still there. I could maybe see the argument for “trying going all the way a second time to see if a sucky first time was just first time nerves” or something along those lines, but multiple times? All the way? For two people with no sexual attraction to each other? With barely any time to be alone together? It doesn’t add up. We love fantasy, but I’m not suspending my belief for this shit.
Another reason (the biggest reason I’m arguing this) is that the vulnerability of sex brings up relationship problems, and those two together were, well. A Problem. It’s one thing to have a series of experiences with unwanted “fooling around” and related but going all the way? Man. This could easily be the thing that seriously pushes them to break apart. A thing that brings up a lot of negative emotions. Agatha wouldn’t be equipped to deal with Simon breaking down, and it would have come to that if it he pushed himself multiple times to go all the way when he didn’t want it (but felt like he had to).
The “it happened during Christmas 7th year” timeline it’s consistent with Simon remembering Agatha becoming more emotionally detached and irritated after the break, and it has Agatha running after Baz (as in, she has “tried it all” with Simon and it didn’t work, so time to look for a spark elsewhere). This is already telling you that she was reaching her breaking point and getting ready to break up, and it’s also consistent with the negative emotions that going through the motions sex can cause, negative emotions that also manifest in Simon when he talks about it (and outside of his head it’s the only time this gets approached, with Baz present to help him process it; never once alone in his head) Also, it always stood out to me when Agatha is breaking up with Simon, he tries to hold her hand and she jumps away from his contact. Simon brushes it away with “I moved too fast and scared her” but it feels like there’s something deeper going on there. He’s not fucking flash, it’s not... normal to be jumpy like that.
SPOILERS START HERE
In SFC Simon brings up touch. He’s like “I never liked to touch Agatha in front of her parents because I didn’t want to remind them we were stuff together.” Again the vagueness. Obvious assumptions aside (because Simon challenges such assumptions during his conversation with Baz with “sex is not confirmation of attraction” and “is it good that it happened?”). Going to the movies is doing stuff together. Doing stuff together can be “let’s figure out how tongue kissing works.” It can be literally what Agatha describes in awtwb: sitting so close together while watching TV Simon is sweating all over her, while he puts his arm around her. It’s already a thing he wouldn’t be comfortable doing in front of her parents.
“I wanted her parents to trust me,” Simon dated Agatha in survival mode. Even being together is survival. When he tells her “I love you,” his thinking mirror battle strategies rather than emotions. Here, he shows an awareness of expectations for boys like him. He didn’t want her parents thinking he can’t be trusted to be in their house when they weren’t around because he would be “a horny boy trying to get his way with their daughter” or some shit. He was aware of such expectations, and he performed with Agatha because that’s what he’s supposed to want, isn’t it? This is what happens in relationships, what leads to a future and a family and fitting it. This is what you do if you don’t want to be left behind, isn’t it? But at the same time, he didn’t want these expectations to leave him with nowhere to go. It’s a lot, and he was on alert.
And with the way it’s phrased, it’s all in Simon’s head. He doesn’t say the parents did shit that cause him to adjust his behavior, it was coming from him. Because he just didn’t like to touch Agatha, period. Not as a boyfriend. He’s not like “I had to restrain myself” in front of her parents, he simply didn’t like it. So he put internal blocks here. Simon’s priority in that paragraph is parental acceptance. It’s getting the adults to trust him. And it makes sense that he expresses it like this, without much examination, because this is only 6 months after awtbw. It took him more than a year after they broke up to process in real time with Baz that he was never into Agatha, it makes sense he hasn’t dedicated any more time to this. And this thought occurred to him because of a situation with parents that triggered it. It also occurs to me: between this and Simon’s initial reaction when Baz asks, it seems like Simon considers "getting physical” with Agatha as something no one has to know, as in, this is something that’s embarrassing or shameful. And Simon is not at all a reserved “i just don’t like PDA” kind of guy – he was rubbing his cock on Baz in a library! A public space! Simon worries about “being gay” outside for a while, but when he’s working through this and they’re finally progressing, Baz notes he seems to get off on public displays of affection! So to dislike being public with Agatha, a straight relationship that is accepted by everyone and their mothers, it’s indicative of just disliking touching Agatha.
In contrast, what holds Simon back from touching Baz is external (a potentially hostile environment, where the parents are visibly “miserable” because of his presence). When Simon and Baz go to have dinner with Baz's parents, it’s the one (1) time Simon truly and fully enters survival mode in their relationship, and he notes “these adults are not going to trust me even if we’re sitting like we’re leaving room for Jesus.” It’s the complete opposite to the situation with Agatha, where Simon wanted parental approval, where she wasn’t the priority at all, and he didn’t like touching her, anyway. Here, Baz is Simon’s priority. Here, Simon has to restrain himself from touching Baz, and it makes him miserable, even though it’s only been a couple of hours at most. Here, Baz touch is linked to sustenance (breakfast). Touching Baz is as vital to Simon as eating. It makes him giddy. Not touching him it’s like torture. We get none of that “I don’t like PDA in front of parents/other people” he touches him and calls him babe in front of everyone with God As His Witness. He has 0 issues here. He doesn’t give a fuck.
And his horny reactions to Baz helping him with his clothes is worlds apart from how uncomfortable he was with even the idea sex in CO or even in part of WS in his head, when he’s telling you Baz is the only person he has ever wanted “like this.” (Simon can’t even think the word sex, it’s memory Baz who says it.) If you consider Simon’s expertize with undoing Baz’s tie here, and the way Simon was regularly jumping Baz and thinking about his cock around him in awtwb, it all paints the picture of a Simon who has become “sexually liberated” in a way he never has before. He’s having sex regularly with his boyfriend and you bet your ass he fucking wants it. You bet he’s prioritizing it and making the time for it. Godbless.

d/azai 3, 19, 46, 81 (with c/huuya)
sorry all my requests are d/azai 🫠 thank you for anything you write!!! 🫶
Thank you for the request, and NO need to be sorry! I love writing my beloved S/oukoku~~ absolutely love an excuse to write some D/azai~~ I did... get a touch angsty with this one, so hopefully it's still enjoyable!! 2k words, prompts 3, 19, 46, and 81, story under cut! 3. “I’m going to take care of you, okay?” 19. “I took NyQuil instead of DayQuil and I’m about to pass out.”  46. Touching their nose leading to a sneeze 81. Hiding an illness for an event, but the SO catches on pretty quickly. (References to swearing, very mild violence implications, and fainting, just in case anyone doesn’t like any of those! Also slight spoiler for season 4. It's only in passing but it's still there so be aware!)
~~~~~~~
From the second Chuuya sees Dazai he knows something’s off.
On the outside, nothing appears to be wrong. Dazai’s demeanor is just as sickening as ever. An unbothered air of confidence around him as he lets his shoes crash against the desk in front of Mori. Dazai lightly clears his throat, the noise practically sending ripples of anger through Chuuya’s veins.
Right then and there Chuuya considers tearing him apart piece by piece, only stopping as Mori casts a dark smile his way. Fukuzawa sits beside the infuriating man with the same air of confidence to him. ‘At least he has the decency to add a feeling of caution to it. Dazai is as unflinching as always. I’d like to knock that smug look off his face.’
Still, despite all of that, there’s something wrong with him. The feeling is deeply unsettling to Chuuya, his mind racing with every possibility. Neither of the bosses seem to sense it, ‘Though if Mori does, I doubt he’d directly call it out. Not unless he knew exactly how to use it. Still, his focus seems to be claimed by Fukuzawa.’
Behind Chuuya’s thoughts, he manages to catch Dazai’s hand swiping at his face. A simple gesture to most, something without thought. However… Dazai was not most, and this was not the first time this action had occurred. This time a light sniffle breaks free against his hand, Chuuya fighting the urge to punch him at the noise.
Dazai’s listening to the meeting, but there’s a distance behind his eyes. He’s spacey. A word that when paired with Dazai sends chills down Chuuya’s spine. Another throat clearing slips out as Chuuya’s eyes scan him, trying to find a thread to pull. His chance soon comes, a thread revealing itself in the form of a tight double.
“hh’knt-!  ih’gxt-!”
A couple sneezes from Dazai was not uncommon. He was infamous for his doubles, it would be unheard of to just get a single from the man. While he might not seem like it, he is human after all, ‘At least biologically…’ so having a few sneezes slip out every now and then is pretty normal.
What wasn’t normal was the desperation behind the expulsions. Despite each being mostly breath, the expression that flickers across Dazai’s face behind his pinched nose tells a different story. There’s something itchy about the way his eyes shut, breath cracking in his chest as he attempts to suck in the least amount of air he can manage.
“hh’kshnt-! ih’gxt’chh-!”
Chuuya feels a sigh slip from his chest in turn. ‘He’s just sick. Was almost worri-’ The relief is immediately cut short as Dazai’s eyes unfocus, head tipping into his chest. It’s just for a second, but the slip is obvious, setting every nerve in Chuuya’s body aflame. ‘Did the bastard just… f- faint…?’
Whatever the motion was, it seems to push Dazai far enough from conscious thought to let another double form, this time the first slipping out before he can stop it. Chuuya can’t help the pleasure that rolls through him at seeing Dazai lose even the slightest amount of control.
“eh’KTShhiew-! heh’kngxxt-!”
Mori’s eyes tick over, a dark look spreading across his face once more. Despite working for him, it leaves Chuuya’s stomach churning. ‘I may respect the boss but… there’s just something about that look…’ Fukuzawa seems to share the feeling, a slight pale tint gracing his features at the sight.
“Something the matter, Dazai?”
“Other than having to be in the same room as you? Nothing at all~.”
The response is casual, Dazai showing his usual lack of respect towards the head of the Mafia. The careless nature Dazai usually possesses is meant to feel natural, to set you at ease and leave you defenceless.
‘But this- this is too forced… it’s like he needed to put all his concentration into that one sentence… Words come so easily to him normally- this can’t be good.’ Chuuya feels his pulse elevate, fists starting to clench. On guard against the unseen enemy lurking just below the surface somewhere in Dazai’s mind.
“hH’kNDt-! eh’nXGt-! Scuse m- hh’kETshh’iue-!”
The third catches everyone off guard, seemingly Dazai most of all. A flush stains his cheeks as his hand barely makes it back up to his face in time for the last one. Chuuya feels a grin starting to form, biting his cheek to keep it at bay.
“Are you alright, Dazai?”
“Something wrong, Dazai?”
Chuuya rolls his eyes as the bosses offer synchronized questions, Dazai ducking them both with a simple nod, rubbing his nose against his bandaged arm. ‘That’s so gross…’
“I think I’m allergic to dumb hats, Chuuya~, could you move a little further away please?”
“Eh?! You bastard, I’ll-”
“That’s quite enough. Mori, perhaps we should continue this discussion at a later date.”
“I agree. Though, I’ll ask you not to speak to my people like that again, they are not yours to command, Fukuzawa.”
The comments prompt Fukuzawa to rise to his feet, Chuuya letting a faint glow start to trail up his arms. His eyes stay trained on Mori, waiting for any signal. ‘Say the word boss… Except with Dazai here… it won’t be as easy as I’d like…’
“It didn’t seem you were planning on stepping in. And Dazai is not yours.”
“No he is not, you stole him from me quite unfairly. Not unlike our dear Yosan-”
“Her name is not to pass your lips again.”
As the bosses continue their verbal assault Chuuya lets his focus slip back to Dazai. He expects to see the man enjoying this display as always, which he is. However as he watches, Dazai goes to stand, eyes snapping shut as his legs nearly give out under him.
Before he can think it through, Chuuya finds himself rising, hand up to apply gravity manipulation. Thankfully Dazai snaps back into focus, gathering his footing at the last second. The slip is still unforgiveable to Chuuya, his hand grabbing Dazai’s arm.
“Fucking idiot.”
“Hey! Let go of me Chuuyahh… hH’dNT-! ih’gENT-!”
Ignoring the honestly pathetic cries of protest, Chuuya drags Dazai out of Mori’s office and down the hall. Stopping once they reach the unused break room, Chuuya pushes Dazai in, shutting the door behind him.
“Uhh- is Chuuya planning to seduce me again? And on a couch of all things? Am I not worth a bed? I’m very sorry, I’m simply not that easy, how sweet of you to offer though~.”
“The fuck do you mean ‘again’ you- Ach! That’s not the point. What the hell is wrong with you?”
“Chuuya! That’s quite rude. I may be a bit of an acquired taste, but to sugges-”
“I know you have a cold, so don’t even bother.”
“In that case- heh’kETshh’iu-! hK’ISHhiew-! Whew, that feels much better.”
Dazai’s words are still carefully chosen, each meant to dance around the truth, dipping and swaying with his carefully curated tone. One Chuuya can see right through, a hint of something deeper starting to pierce through each sentence. With a single movement Chuuya lunges forward, managing to place his hand against Dazai’s face with no resistance.
“You don’t have a fever.”
“I know that already.”
“So why are you so… not you?”
“Before the meeting I took nyquil instead of dayquil and I’m about to pass out.”
‘It must be bad if he just comes out and says it... No. It’s got to be another distraction, a trap of some kind…’
“Are you serious?”
Whatever reply Chuuya may have been expecting, Dazai shutting his eyes and collapsing was not it. Chuuya finds himself hitting the ground to catch the bastard before he head can hit the floor, a hiss scraping out as Dazai’s entire body weight hangs limp in his arms.
“What the fuck Dazai.”
There’s no answer from the man in his arms aside from a few congested breaths that sound much too shallow for comfort. Even without gravity manipulation Dazai isn’t too heavy, though Chuuya does find himself out of breath after placing him on the couch. A moment goes by, and then another, Chuuya’s eyes locked on the unconscious man. Finally, just as Chuuya starts to consider fetching Fukuzawa, Dazai’s eyes start to flutter open.
“Okay… so you weren’t lying… Damn. Why the fuck did you come anyways?”
“hahHhh-!”
A hand frantically waves in front of Dazai’s face as his nose scrunches under the intense tickle. Chuuya tries to look away, but he’s captivated by the sheer intensity of the desperation leaking from Dazai’s every pore.
His eyes are fluttering, each inhale a deeper gasp, each exhale a disappointment. After a few minutes Chuuya can’t take it anymore, leaning down and flicking his trembling septum. The result is instant, Dazai only managing to aim it into Chuuya’s shoulder.
“hh’KShhiew-! hep’schhh’oo-!”
“Watch it you-”
The insult is cut off as Dazai curls into himself with another fit, each individual sneeze seeming to consume more energy than he possesses in total. Sympathy starts flooding Chuuya’s heart, against his will.
“eH’MMshhiew-! hh’kSHh’oo-! eh’NNShhew-! knSHhh’iu-!”
“Christ, just breathe. It’s fine. It’s just a jacket, you moron.”
“hH’kshhew-! enNSHHh’iu-! nngeshh’oo-! eH’kSHhhiew-!”
“It can be cleaned, though you’re paying the bill!”
Chuuya lets his focus slip back to Dazai’s face, the sight freezing him where he stands. Dazai’s glassy eyes are watering, a truly horrifying sight. The mask is crumbling away from the medication, leaving Chuuya standing mere inches away from a far too vulnerable for comfort Dazai.
One expressing actual human emotions. One who looks as if he might start crying at any moment. One that seems to repel Chuuya’s very being while simultaneously drawing him closer with a force even gravity can’t resist. Hissing through his teeth, Chuuya lets a harsh sigh escape, growling out-
“You better not remember any of this, got it?”
“hh’kshh- nntishh’iuh-!”
-Before slipping off one glove. The air on his skin is too cold, seeming to burn up his arm as he feels the depths of his mind start to claw their way forward. Words start to fill his mind before he can process them. ‘Not now, not this time. Dazai needs me right now, you can’t take me. He won’t let you hurt me.’
Focusing on the present, Chuuya lets his fingers brush Dazai’s cheek, feeling the clawing start to fade away. The contact seems to soothe Dazai as well, a moan spilling from his mouth as he leans into the touch, tears starting to pool in his eyes.
“I’m going to take care of you, okay? Just- Just don’t cry.”
Dazai melts into the embrace, strong arms wrapping around Chuuya and pulling him onto the couch, the two of them collapsing back until Chuuya’s laying on top of him. Chuuya growls roughly at the movement, nearly considering bashing the bastards head in.
“Let go you fucking…”
He trails off as Dazai nuzzles into his neck, soft congested snores starting to pour out, each breath sending chills through his skin. Chuuya remains stiff, hands bracing him against the couch, hovering just above it without the use of gravity manipulation. ‘Someone could walk in at any moment… Someone could see… The motherfucker- he never thinks about anyone but himself, if anyone saw me-’
“hh’ishh-! tishh’ii-!”
The sneezes are soft, sleep soaking through them as Dazai shudders against Chuuya’s shoulder, before letting sleep consume him once more. The last of Chuuya’s will to fight seems to fade away, his body relaxing on its own, sinking down against Dazai’s. His hands start to run through the bastard's hair before he can process the movement, mumbling in a whisper meant only for him.
It seems to echo in his mind, though he can’t seem to grasp from where. Like a memory he’d sealed away, though… something inside him, something hiding in the depths of his mind, seems to soothe at the words. Almost as if they had been uttered to him long ago.
“I’m here. I won’t let it take you. I won’t let them hurt you. You’re mine, I’ve got you.”
OUGH ALRIGHT magni backstory ramble time under the cut. was putting this off just in case i wanted to make changes but now i'm committed.
and later im not going to be able to stop myself from rambling abt his companion connections at length so i'm dropping this here as the starting point to keep me CONSISTENT.
refers to mild act 2 spoilers because I need to be a little bit unhinged about things. currently in act 3, but i'm saving that for later because there is so much happening. anyway
Tumblr media
bullet point backstory bc it's 11 pm. what up.
used to be a priest(ess) of lolth. raised among devout lolth-sworn, which of course gives him baggage he doesn't even realize exists until like halfway through the game.
'i had a normal childhood' - guy who very much did not have a normal childhood. am i projecting my religious trauma here. who can say
very committed. basically used serving lolth as an elaborate excuse to get away with whatever selfish whims popped into his head
worked alongside two other, equally terrible priestesses under the mutual understanding that they were only 'allies' until they could stab each other in the back
last one standing is loth's fav. you know how it is
did in fact get stabbed in the back when one of them uncovered a secret of his and used it to oust him
fully accepted he was going to get sacrificed to lolth. was pretty chill with it, actually. as far as he was concerned it only made sense.
the priestess who ousted him decided it would be meaner to banish him to the surface instead
she was correct.
became SO INCENSED at being told he was not a worthy sacrifice that it became ALL he cared about
like. he refused to wrap his brain around it, so he just went 'fine, i will claw my way up from the dirt and eat bugs or whatever and i WILL become so fucking impressive that when i come back DOWN here you will HAVE to sacrifice me. that's how good i'll be.
'also maybe i'll trans my gender while i'm at it bc at this point I Have Nothing To Lose'
lost ability to use magic in the middle of this and just refused to think about the 'god abandoned me' implications
knew nothing about the surface. broke into places, stole, and murdered to survive. discovered life was easier if you got good at lying, just in case you got caught stealing. and he was already Very good at lying.
once he got it all figured out, he fell into organized crime VERY easily, while still secretly holding onto his General Disdain for everyone around him. this was not hard to do. people are shitty to you when you're a drow.
spent a couple decades fighting, stealing, and occasionally murdering if you paid him or annoyed him enough. mentally tucks away all of the crimes he does as 'for lolth' even though he's lowkey aware that's not how that works. there's a bunch of complicated stuff going on in his brain up there and he is avoiding all of it.
basically he starts the game an expert manipulator who FULLY expects to just eventually murder these people he keeps picking up because it Has to be that way, except thru act 1 he. doesn't. and then he starts to get used to them. enough that at camp he starts to drop his Eternal Performance, which everyone initially writes off as 'magni being weirdly dismissive and blunt for some reason' until late act 1 when they realize 'oh wait. that's what he's REALLY LIKE. he was LYING.'
his feelings towards the companions and himself and his goals get incredibly complicated. sometimes he sucks. sometimes he doesn't. gale makes him ask himself questions he does not want to know the answer to, but he can't just let it GO now that he's asking them. the people around him are trusting him with their deepest secrets and desires and it is FREAKING HIM OUT because he doesn't know how to do anything with secrets except destroy. so he drops the act further thru act 2. except they're still doing it. because they know what he's like by now. and they know that sometimes! he refrains from doing the mean selfish thing! because they wouldn't like it! and he hates that he feels that way and is occasionally halfheartedly mean and petty later like it's going to make the uncomfortable taste in his mouth go away but he is forming attachments to these people and there is NOTHING he can do about that
anyway. i'm going to shake my laptop later re: gale being asked to Explode by his god and how it forces magni to look literally his Only Driving Goal For Decades (getting eaten by spiders) in the face and ask himself if that's really what he wanted, but i'm in full hyperfixation mode. also he just rly loves astarion. he can't say that word though. feels wrong in his mouth
it's also put him in the weird act 3 spot of being the person who has already ASKED himself the hard questions that everyone else is now asking. he is, for the first time ever, somewhat the reasonable one. which means he's gotta accept he thinks differently about things than he used to. which he doesn't like. but he's embraced the softness, he just doesn't want you to mention it.
and sometimes he just goes and stands in a cold lake at 1 am so he doesn't have to think about anything. you know how it goes
 I just finished season 2 of Shadow and Bone. What a wild ride of confusion, rage, and elation, guys.
Here’s my thoughts, but first, some disclaimers. If you haven’t watched the show and read the books, major spoilers follow, so beware. Also, though I had some major problems with this season, I did enjoy it overall, so remember that as you read. And if you absolutely loved this season more than anything, that’s cool too. All opinions are welcome here.
Most of this will be about the Crows because they’re the main reason I watch.
Here’s what I loved:
1. Just like last season, the casting and character work on this show was great. For some reason, I wasn’t immediatly sold on Nikolai’s character, but then I loved him to pieces shortly, which I guess is how it’s supposed to be anyway. Also, Wylan was perfect. Double also, I appreciate that this show continues to make Mal actually likeable, which was not always the case in the books.
2. The visual effects were really cool. We’ve all seen a lot of different shows where characters have elemental magic, and rarely have I seen it look good in live action. But some of those scenes with the amplified grisha at the end made me think, “This is how a person wielding a whirlpool and/or ice shards might actually look if it could happen in the real world.”
3. The David/Genya dynamic was amazing. They were cute in the books, but I think TV David comes across even better. But it’s been years since I read the Shadow and Bone trilogy, so I could just be misremembering there. (Also, pretty much every romantic dynamic has you invested in this show.)
4. The moment at the end when Kaz and Inej see each other safe for the first time after the big battle, and then Jesper runs over and hugs her, while Kaz just has to look away in disappointement with himself. (Also, the final Kaz/Inej scene was very well done.) I always thought these two were the strongest characters in a group of very strong characters in the Crows books, and the show does their characters a lot of justice, even if I’m often left wanting a little more.
5. The dynamic between the Crows is really starting to get to book level, and I love it.
Things I didn’t love (these range anywhere along the scale of mild disappointment to pointless rage)
1. The Crows just showing up and destroying the amplified grisha at the end. I mean, other than the grenade they threw, those grisha had plenty of time to counter their attacks. They definitely had time to stop that powder from flying into their faces. They could clearly hear Kaz be like, “Wylan, now!” As much as I love the Crows, that scene was a little ridiculous. The Crows can cause some major destruction in the books, but usually when they do they have some more advanced technology and some shadows on their side at least.
2. When I realized that the Kaz-Pekka Rollins confrontation was going to happen in episode four of an eight episode season, I just about lost it. In the books, that moment is the culmination of two books worth of character development and plotting. And the fact that Inej was the only Crow who wasn’t there to see it just drove me crazy. That’s such a great moment between them in the books, when Inej finally thinks Kaz has lost himself to his revenge, after two books of telling him he’s not a monster, and then Kaz is just like, “Nah, I was just messing with him.” Like, what a relief that was in the books. (Also, I don’t really like that Pekka Rollins is still out there being his usual self, even though he’s locked up. In the books he’s not dead either, but by the end of the story he’s pretty much been scared witless and driven away. Hopefully he and Kaz don’t meet up again in the show because it wouldn’t feel very meaningful at this point.)
3. The Inej-Mogen conflict. It’s clearly filling in for the Inej-Dunyasha conflict in Crooked Kingdom, but it lacks the dynamic that made it so interesting in the books. Dunyasha as a Lantsov pretender (or not) was awesome. Dunyasha really being almost like a foil for Inej was awesome. It also brought in the interesting concept of Dunyasha being Inej’s “shadow,” or the result of all the sins she’s had to commit to survive. Which also brought up the idea of Kaz and Pekka as shadows of one another, and we got to have that great moment where Inej really forces Kaz to think about what he plans for the future, and how he plans to be different (if really at all) from someone like Pekka Rollins if he comes out on top. Also, one of my favorite passages in Crooked Kingdom is Inej’s “we learn to wring magic from the ordinary” moment, about how maybe Dunyasha is some lost princess, while Inej is just a regular girl who’s been forced to deal with the brutal side of the world, but that Inej will fight to get what she deserves anyway. It’s so powerful, and I don’t really think they could have worked it into a TV show anyway, but it still felt like a loss. (Also, as cool as it was to see Inej wielding a legendary magical sword later in the season, it kind of makes that “wring magic from the ordinary” passage from the book ring a little hollow.)
4. The best Kaz/Inej moment in Crooked Kingdom (in my opinion) was attempted, but they couldn’t do as much with it in the show as they did in the books, simply because they weren’t there yet with the story/characters. I think they really should have put off the Kaz trying to help Inej with her first aid scene for later. It was still effective in the show and I liked what we did get. But there’s so much good dialogue and character work there in the books, other than just the romantic tension, and most of it is so wound up with Crooked Kingdom’s plot that it would be hard to transplant elsewhere, but maybe they’ll try. But this was one of the biggest issues I had with this season overall. They tried to hit on so many of the important story and character beats from Crooked Kingdom, but they could never make them hit quite as hard as they do in the books because of the constraints of time/plot decisions.
5. I was sad that we didn’t get to see Matthias join the Crows yet.
Things I’m still hoping to see, even though they kind of already adapted Croooked Kingdom:
1. The Jesper-Kaz feud. “Who’s Jordie?” Love it. Also, I’m sure we’ll learn more about Jesper’s background, and I’m looking forward to seeing that play out somehow.
2. Kaz in a murderdous rage over Inej’s safety. I want to see this man throw another man off a light house. Judge me all you want.
Aspirin (Namjoon x OC)
Summary: You have a cold. Across the world, your loving boyfriend and spoiler king, Namjoon, is a dangerous combination of concerned and amused.
Pairing: Namjoon x OC
Genre: Established relationship; fluff
Rating: PG/15+
Word Count: 3.7 K
Warnings: mild sickness, long distance yearning, Namjoon is the dreamiest boyfriend on earth
A/N: This is set a few months prior to Industry Baby, and describes one of the "firsts" of Namjoon and Kaya's relationship. I wrote most of it on my phone in Bangkok airport and on Chaweng beach, so any typos are due to the vast amount of sand in my eyes.
Thank you so much to the wonderful @horanghoe and @meirkive who beta-ed this for me with tons of in-depth feedback and appropriate gushing <3
It's too high.
Kaya sighs, feeling her sinuses struggling to process even such a simple action. She debates vaguely which is worse: the cold that came out of nowhere, or the dissertation she's midway through reviewing that simply has to be done by Monday, come what may. Right now, she's leaning towards the former.
Correction: it's the bottle of Aspirin that's one shelf too high.
She has absolutely no idea how it ended up there. If she can't reach the shelf to retrieve it, she definitely couldn't have placed it there in the first place. Her first thought is her friend Alex, who came over a few weeks ago and would have presumably helped herself to a couple of pills, as she usually does every time she's worked late. Her second thought is Namjoon, for whom the shelf is probably at eye level - but it’s been months since he’s been to her apartment so it’s highly unlikely that he would’ve inadvertently put her in this position.
Almost as though he knew she was thinking about him, her phone pings from where she’s left it on the dining table. Wincing at the sound, she shuffles out of the bathroom and across the kitchen of her studio apartment to check it.
Joon [15:10]
Hey, beautiful.
Kaya’s heart leaps weakly. She sinks into the chair, lowers the brightness of the screen and types out a reply.
Kaya [15:10]
Believe me, there’s nothing beautiful about me right now.
Joon [15:11]
Lies. How are you feeling?
She squints and begins replying, but her headache persists. Giving up, she calls him, setting the phone on speaker and walking over to the kitchen. He picks up on the second ring.
"Hey."
She can hear the smile in his voice, and despite the horridness of her cold, it makes her feel slightly better.
"Sorry, I couldn't look at the screen any longer," she says thickly, placing it on the counter and retrieving a mug from a cabinet. "My head's pounding."
"Shit." In the background, she can hear the faint honking of a car. "It's that bad?"
"Remember how you pretended to pass out after I made you try that shrimp fried rice?”
“I remember crab and tuna being in there, too,” replies Namjoon calmly. “But that’s still pretty bad. Don’t you think you should go to a doctor?”
Kaya shakes her head immediately, wincing at the stinging pain in the middle of her forehead before she remembers that he can’t see her. “No, it’s not that bad. Yet,” she adds doubtfully. “And I don’t have the time for it, so I’m just making some green tea. Apparently it helps. Oh, and Aspirin.” When another honk emanates through the speaker, she frowns. “Are you driving?”
“No… I take my test next weekend,” he says sheepishly.
She chuckles. “I’m so proud,” she says, only partly joking. “Call me in case you need a pep talk?”
“I’m an expert at pep talks, I’ll have you know.”
“At giving them, maybe. These pep talks are different,” she informs him, tearing open a packet and shaking out the tea bag. “It’s a different kind of encouragement you need when you’re handling a machine that can actually kill a person.”
“Not helping,” he says. “I’m on my way to dinner. I’m super late and everyone’s already ordered…” He sighs heavily. “I really hope they haven’t got clams.”
“That’s rough, babe.”
“Shut up,” he mutters, but she can hear the chuckle in his voice. “Do you have any Aspirin in the house?”
“Yeah,” she answers, mimicking his sigh, “I just have to figure out how to get to it. Either my super tall friend or my super tall boyfriend left it there the last time they came over,” she says deliberately, sniffling into the sleeve of her hoodie.
Namjoon chuckles again. “I swear, baby, your super tall boyfriend didn’t touch that Aspirin. Oh, and before you try it,” he says quickly, a mild panic in his voice, “please don’t try to climb on the bathroom counter? Especially when you’re sick.”
Kaya rolls her eyes, instantly feeling her head spin again. “Of course not." A notification pops up on her screen and she suddenly remembers something. "Okay, wait, I think Mark’s out today. Maybe I'll ask him to pick some on his way back," she mutters, typing out a message to him.
"And Mark is…"
"My neighbour. Blond hair, army jacket? Looks like Matt Damon from The Departed?" she prompts. "You met him, when we were on our way out to dinner."
"Right." There's a pause during which she can hear the faint sound of a car zoom by. "I was confusing him with Maxim. That's the guy who dropped you back from campus that night, right?"
"Yeah, the new TA," she answers absently, scrolling through her phone. "Okay, Mark isn't responding."
"Is there anyone else you can call?" The underlying concern creeps in, and she feels herself smile in spite of herself.
"I can take care of myself," she reasons calmly. "He'll respond eventually. Even if it's late. I just really need that Aspirin to work," she groans.
Namjoon doesn't follow the change of topic, though. "Are you sure it’s a good idea to let some guy into your apartment in the middle of the night?" he asks, and this time the concern is unmistakable. "Especially when you’re weak and sick?"
"I'm not weak and sick," she says, rolling her eyes and dipping the tea bag into the cup of hot water. "I mean, I'm feeling weak and I am sick…" He's silent and she can almost visualize him raising an eyebrow knowingly. "And it's just Mark. He helped me fix my router, too, remember?"
"Uh-huh."
"Joon?"
"Yeah?"
Kaya takes the phone off speaker and brings it to her ear, turning around to lean back against the kitchen counter. "Trust me, I won't be inviting anyone into this toxic petri dish of germs for a few days now."
She can hear his smile through the phone. "That's what I like to hear." There's a beep through the phone followed by a rustle before his voice comes back. "Kaya, can I call you later, baby? I'm getting a call from Sera."
"Wow. PR agent trumps girlfriend, I see."
"That is not true," he says immediately, sounding rather like he's rolling his eyes. "There’s just that interview tomorrow and it’s an English one so there will be a lot of briefing for the other members."
Kaya snickers, the first time she's felt like doing so all day. "I'm kidding, babe. Sick people can make jokes too, you know?"
"You're hilarious."
"Go on, then, music producer," she says, sighing and picking up her mug of tea and heading back to the dining table. "I should call Mark too."
"Alright, love you. Feel better, baby."
His last words sound like there's a hug to follow and for a moment, Kaya is immensely disappointed that she can't get one, not while she's in Amsterdam and he's in Seoul. She simply sighs, hating being sick all over again. "I’ll do my best," she mumbles, trying not to whine as he chuckles and hangs up
Kaya is sick and Namjoon is in a hurry, and neither of them notice.
She tries to stick to her word, though. She never does manage to retrieve the Aspirin but she drinks a second cup of green tea and moves to her tiny balcony with her laptop, hoping the fresh air might help her some. The glare of the screen is still too much, though, especially since her work for the day involves reading through assignments handed in by her thesis advisor’s post grad students. It’s dull work, especially since this particular class seems to be filled with absolute idiots - or that’s the way it feels today.
The wifi signal struggles to reach the balcony, too, and around late afternoon, once it starts raining, she gives up. Shuffling back into her apartment with her laptop in one hand and coffee mug clutched to her chest with the other, she gives it another go before she has to get on a call with her advisor and his junior TA, Maxim, which also comes to a close quite soon.
“Kaya, I can barely understand you.” Professor Lloyd clutches the bridge of his nose. Kaya, whose video is mercifully turned off, opens her mouth to speak but is swiftly cut off. “You sound like you’re talking through a wall, dear,” he adds kindly, and to that, she has no response.
“But -”
“Sleep it off, and you can get a download from Maxim tomorrow.” Without giving her a chance to reply, he logs her out of the meeting.
Stumped, Kaya slams the lid of her laptop shut. Too tired to get off the couch, however, she stays there, feeling as though every limb could fall off any moment. She doesn’t wake up until hours later, and even that’s only because Mark calls her, informing her that his girlfriend might come over later that evening and if she does, could Kaya please hand over his spare key?
“Sure,” she answers groggily, coughing into the sleeve of her hoodie.
“Are you okay?”
“No, I feel like I could die, honestly.”
“What?” There’s a note of panic in his voice. “What are you talking about? What happened?”
“Nothing, it’s… it’s just a cold,” she mutters, feeling her face clog worse than ever. “Could you… pick me up some Aspirin or something on your way back?” she asks, realising only as she says it that her headache has indeed disappeared after her nap, but everything else hurts twofold. “You know what? Forget it.”
“Are you sure? I could get it."
She bites her lip. “That would be great, actually. No pressure. I’ll give Emma the key.”
“Okay, then. And thanks,” he says. “Let me know if you need anything else.”
Kaya makes a non-committal noise before hanging up, feeling hideous. She attempts a shower where she wonders briefly if the fifteen minute window of hot water is enough for her to drown herself. That’s followed by a rather sad dinner of ramen - courtesy Namjoon, who’d insisted on having a box of ready–to-cook ramen in her apartment for emergencies - and whose only purpose is sustenance until she wakes up the next morning.
The TV is a no-go, the volume either too low or too high. She even opens her laptop again but after reading the first email in her inbox (Hi Kaya, I just wanted to check if you’ve had a chance to go through my paper yet. I’ve quoted Ayn Rand in a couple of places and I was just wondering if Professor Lloyd would find that a bit too self-serving, given my main argument? If you could let me know what his reaction would be so I can change it, that would be fantastic. Regards, Matthew), she resists the urge to reply with a single “No”, and simply switches off her laptop.
It's a little after midnight when she finally resigns herself to bed, in the irritating position of being simultaneously exhausted yet wide awake. Wrapped in a blanket and a college hoodie, she props her phone up against the pillow next to hers, trying not to think about how it ought to be occupied by a certain someone now more than ever, and switches on an episode of Modern Family, hugging a box of tissues.
One and a half episodes in, the video gets cut off by an incoming call. Her annoyance lasts half a second before she realises who it is. Answering it with her knuckle, she snuggles further into her blanket, her heart flipping when she hears his voice.
"Hey, how are you feeling?"
Kaya buries her face further into the pillow. "Like crap," she groans, voice muffled. "What are you doing up? Isn't it, like, the crack of dawn over there?"
"Um… no, it's almost seven-thirty."
"Perfect." She sniffles, emerging and wiping her nose with the crumpled tissue in her hand. "My brain is broken. I'm officially ill."
Namjoon snickers, and almost involuntarily, her heart skips a beat. "Baby, your brain is fine. Did you check if you have a fever? You look like you're sweating a bit."
"No, that's the VapoRub on my - wait how can you -" Kaya finally looks at her phone screen and gasps. "Oh, my God, you video called me?" She immediately hitches the blanket upto her nose. "What the hell, Namjoon?"
"What did I - you answered it!" he exclaims, eyes widening.
Finally able to look at the screen without flinching, she takes note of her boyfriend; white long-sleeved t-shirt on, hair a soft brown and falling messily into his eyes. She leans slightly forward and squints.
"Are you at the studio? This early?"
“Home studio,” he corrects her. “I have to make a few edits to this track and the rest of the day is going to be all about that interview.” He stifles a yawn into his hand. “Just waiting for my computer to turn on.”
Kaya groans again. “You can’t see me like this - I’m all gross and sick. Can’t we switch to regular call?”
“What? No! Kaya, you look fine. You’re -”
“Do not say I’m beautiful,” she interrupts him forcefully, hating and loving how comforting he looks with his bed head and broad chest. “I’m hideous,” she laments, burying her face into the blanket again.
Namjoon snorts. “This is a new side of you,” he comments, chuckling when she peeks out again in horror.
“It is. I’m ill,” she states dramatically, pushing her glasses up her nose. “And it’s too early in our relationship for you to see me like this, so I’m switching to -”
“No, Kaya - no.” He shakes his head, looking completely serious now. “Come on, I haven’t seen your face in three days, okay? I miss you.”
It’s the only thing that can give her pause. Sighing heavily, she tugs the blanket down to her chest. “I hate you. And I miss you, too.” When he grins, she can’t help but smile, too, even though she tries to suppress it. “I hate being sick,” she grumbles. “I look and feel like a troll.”
“You still have Disney princess eyes.”
“Like Cinderella before the fairy godmother?”
“You think she was in a ball gown and make-up for the rest of their lives?” He grimaces. “The prince would’ve been into her even in sweats and glasses.”
Kaya chuckles. “And you’re the prince in this scenario?”
“He wanted someone who could fit into the glass slipper, I wanted someone who could discuss Norwegian Wood with me without bringing up the movie.”
“High expectations, Mr Kim.”
“You fulfilled them all, Miss Madaan.” He smiles, making her heart do a backflip. “And more.”
Kaya bites her lip, suddenly wanting him here more than ever, despite her complaints. “I really hate being sick,” she murmurs, sniffling.
Resting his chin on his palm, he tosses his hair out of his eyes. “It’s uncomfortable, I know,” he says sympathetically.
“No, it’s not that. I just become this whining, bitching, moaning mess - which is so unlike me,” she adds, rolling her eyes. “And I fall into this spiral of self-pity and I cry at the dumbest things. Honestly, I miss you, but I’m kind of glad you aren’t around to see me in this state,” she tells him, dabbing at her nose with a tissue again.
“Well, it’s been three months into this relationship and I haven’t found a reason to break up with you yet,” he says seriously.
“I’d like to keep it that way.” Cracking a small smile, she tries to settle in a bit more comfortably. “How’d you sleep? You’re up early.”
“Yeah -” Namjoon leans back in his chair and stretches, and the momentary longing to be on his lap right then is intense. “There’s some construction that’s been going on here for, like, an hour. And the studio is soundproof, so…” He shrugs before looking up. “You remember, don’t you?”
Despite the cold, she bites her lip at the memory, a warmth coursing up her neck. “I remember,” she says softly, nodding.
“Yeah, well. There’s some drilling going on somewhere and this is the only place where I can’t hear it.” He shakes his head. “It’s like a… like a sanctuary of my life’s work in the middle of the world’s most mundane events.”
Kaya stares. “Wow. That’s poetic, babe.”
“Nah, I can do better.” He waves a hand dismissively. “What about you? What did you do all day? Did you ever get that Aspirin?”
“Not yet, but I don’t have a headache anymore either,” she replies, tucking a greasy strand of hair behind her ear. “Now it’s just hot and cold flushes, along with the inability to breathe through my nose.” As if on cue, she sniffles. “It’s awesome.”
“Did you get any sleep? You know it’s important,” he says knowingly.
She narrows her eyes. “Such a hypocrite,” she mutters, and he grins bashfully. “Yeah, I did, actually. Right after I got kicked off a Skype call. Can you imagine?”
“You did what? What were you even doing on a Skype call when you’re sick, Kaya?” he demands, his tone part exasperated and part disapproving.
“I was working!” she exclaims. “Until Professor, uh… oh, what the fuck is his name?” she mutters, trailing off and shutting her eyes.
“I want to say Floyd?”
“Right. Lloyd.” She shakes her head. “He told me to sleep it off. Said I sounded like a truck or something.”
Namjoon raises an eyebrow. “Really? He said that?”
“Well… not exactly those words. But it’s in the same ballpark.”
“Isn’t it a good thing he’s telling you to take the day off?”
“Well, sure, but my deadline isn’t getting pushed back at all.” She turns over onto her back and runs a hand over her face. “This cold has to get better by tomorrow or I’m going to be working all through the weekend. Doesn’t help that this set of assignments is handed in by absolute morons,” she adds unfairly.
“Weren’t you one of those morons? About a year ago?”
“Excuse me,” she declares coldly. “I never handed in assigments over WhatsApp. And I had the foresight to do a damn spell check and not misspell Nietzsche, like an imbecile.” She sighs. “I told you I’m a nightmare when I’m sick,” she mumbles, turning over onto her side again to face him. "It's incredibly unattractive."
He smiles adoringly, though, his dimple popping. “It’s alright. I love you even when you're a nightmare."
There's a pause before several things happen at once. The words click in her mind the same time that Namjoon's eyes widen before he sighs.
"Did you just -"
"Not how I was planning it, but…" He shrugs, looking far less horrified than she feels.
"You - you can't -" Kaya kicks her blanket aside weakly as she struggles to straighten up a bit, pushing her glasses up her nose. "Joon, what did you do?" she groans.
"What are you talking about?"
"You can't say that for the first time when I'm like this!"
Namjoon's face relaxes. "It wasn't on purpose, but it's true," he reasons.
"Well… take it back!"
"What? No! I'm not going to take it back," he argues, rolling his eyes. "I meant it."
Trying to ignore how her heart leaps at his words, she groans again. "Come on, Joon, not like this!"
"Why not? Just because you have a cold, I can't tell you I love -"
"Stop! Oh, God!" Kaya covers her face, whining as she hears him laugh. "I hate you so much, Kim Namjoon."
"Not the sentiment I was going for, but I love you, Kaya Madaan."
"Shut up."
"Feel free to say it back, by the way."
"Absolutely not," she declares, dropping her hands and glaring at him. "I'm going to wait until you're at your absolute worst to say it back."
He snorts, laughing even harder now, looking more handsome than ever. "Really? What's that going to look like?"
"I don't know. Seokjin told me you fall down a lot, so maybe one of those times?"
"I used to fall down a lot," he corrects her. "I’m a lot more coordinated now. Wait, so does this mean I'm going to have to wait until we're physically together to hear it?"
"Probably," she says icily, adjusting her blankets with a vengeance now. "And you have no one but yourself to blame."
He considers it for a moment. "I don't regret it," he decides.
She rolls her eyes when the doorbell rings. "Oh, that must be Mark," she mutters, sitting up awkwardly and climbing off the bed.
"Now?" Namjoon frowns as she picks up the phone on her way out. He checks his watch, jaw clenching slightly. "It's really late, Kaya."
"Yeah, well, he got back late, I guess," she murmurs, wiping at her nose with her sleeve. "It's Aspirin, I'll need it." She stops before opening the door and looks back at the screen. "I'll talk to you later? Think I'll just knock myself out with a pill."
"Be careful." He sighs, leaning back in his chair. "I miss you."
Kaya bites her lip, leaning back similarly against her front door and holding the phone up. "I miss you, too. I'm coming to Seoul next month, though," she says lightly.
"For a week," he adds, before shaking his head. "Sorry. It's better than nothing."
"It is."
"Feel better. I love you," he adds after a moment, smirking.
"Oh, God," she mutters, this time completely failing at hiding her smile as her stomach does a backflip and her mind begins wandering into dangerous territory, such as how it would feel to hear those words in person, possibly with his arms around her, maybe with his lips at her ear, deep voice saying it for no one but her.
Namjoon is still grinning, clearly amused by this unexpected reaction. "Nothing you want to say?"
"Aspirin," she says blankly, making a show of moving away from the door and placing her hand on the knob.
"Alright, then. Bye."
"Aspirin."
He tilts his head, dimple popping. "I love you."
She nods, swallowing. "Yeah... Aspirin," she tells him, softer this time, before hanging up.
Thank you for reading. Don't forget to drop a review :)
So I made a typo in my previous ask 😅. I meant to say "I could see him weirdly getting along better with the likes of Tobey and Victoria more then Becky could. For Victoria, if she dubs herself as the best when it comes to doing math along with being the best in several other areas, I could see that resulting in an interesting dynamic between her and Rex
[Marking for mild end of series spoilers again]
[Link to previous ask for Tobey comments in case anyone stumbles across this later and is like "why didn't you talk about Tobey?"]
I definitely keep playing with how I want Rex and Victoria interactions to go, I'm not sure yet. I never cared for Victoria as a character in my younger years, but she's been growing on me as I've played her against Tobey, Victor, and her parents. I do have an outline for a scene where Rex and Victoria cross paths at one of Victoria's million internships and extracurriculars, but nothing's final yet :)
Rex and Victor will definitely be bouncing off each other in my writing, though. Rex is humble enough to look to WordGirl for inspiration, but he still deals with a lot of jealousy over being the "second best." He and Victor sort of click in that way, though Rex's reaction is more "I feel lonely" and Victor is blinded with envy.
Victor Best is probably like, my third favorite character in the series after Rex and Reason. I like my boys logical and I like them unhinged, wheeze... He's so incredibly unstable and I love him so much.
Tumblr media
/slaps my horrible son on the shoulder. Yeah this bad boy can hold SO many issues :)
I'm so obsessed with how lamb-like TJ becomes around the Bests and how he starts out cheerful and then he just kinda... gets incredibly nervous. He was really excited to become friends with Victor, but as soon as he saw his friend unraveling, you can see the wheels turning in TJ's head and man...
I love "Best of the Bests," it's got a little background dude going from 0 to 500 and snapping hard, then literally next episode we have a murder (/lh but also /gen) and then immediately from there we go into the series finale, these last episodes are all such heavy hitters sldkfj.
Shout out to Victoria having a mini breakdown over the idea of hurting / killing WordGirl when Dr. Two-Brains was trying to goad her into proving herself a villain but then Victor comes along and straight-up just /eats your superpowers
ANYWAY... I'm really excited to play with the younger kids in my 'fic writing. I love the little ways they all differ... TJ is the emotionally stable peacemaker who wants to be cool and nice and avoid conflict. Johnson is the shy yet courageous tagalong, Rex is excitable but naïve, and then you've got... Victor, struggling to hold onto his nicey-nice façade even though he's beyond the point of reason.
He's my everything. Those little moments we get where the camera is zoomed far away from him and you can STILL see his body shaking in rage or horror is... fantastic. He needs every tiny win he can get to the point that he grumbles when his sister "doesn't say 'swish'" because he's just got that little need to succeed, to be better... Victor doesn't even want superpowers "for himself," he just wants to rip Victoria to shreds. After he steals WordGirl's powers, I love how he just screams "I'm better than Victoria!!" in his sister's face instead of "I'm better than WordGirl" and he's just... yikes. I love him.
I love Victor and we'll get to see him and Victoria in Factor It In (in this Friday's update, in fact!), but I haven't nailed down exactly how the Rex and Victoria interactions will go yet. I think once Rex finds a friend in Victor then he'll pretty much believe everything Victor tells him about how annoying Victoria is and he might not want much to do with her, but we'll see!
But thank you for being interested! I have so much Victor & Rex brainrot and Victoria is growing on me too.
Super Mario Bros. Movie 4DX Thoughts + Review (SPOILERS)
Oh gosh, where do I begin.
Let me just preface this by saying that this was my very first experience with a 4DX film. I'd learned that there's a cinema that opened near me which is a much more affordable drive compared to traveling over 100mi just to catch a single showing. I'd actually long sought after a presentation like this since Promare made its limited release in US theaters back in '19 and '21 and, at that time, the new cinema hadn't even opened yet. So I'm not only glad I got to catch the Super Mario Bros. Movie's theatrical release, I'm also glad I now get to experience 4DX closer to home.
Tumblr media
I've watched some demonstrations of the technology in action and it speaks to me especially as a thrill ride enthusiast. It reminds me a lot of those 4D theater-style rides that usually operate in theme parks, so I went in with that expectation in mind but for feature-length films. Well, this experience brought a lot more than I expected, in a good way. I will elaborate more on this shortly.
Tumblr media
The one thing I will probably say is that the motion seats will violently heave and rock during certain action scenes to the point where the backrests will slam your back and, in some cases, you will be bouncing off your seat briefly, so if that's not your thing or if you have certain sensory/health issues which may be agitated by the motion seats and/or environmental effects (air/water jets, wind, rain, occasional scents, vibration, lumbar kick, etc.), then 4DX Mario might not be for you, even 4DX presentations in general. The manufacturer of 4DX has a safety guidelines page you can read before considering attending a presentation like this.
Of course, this goes without saying that this post will be full of spoilers. You're probably better off not reading beyond this point if you plan on watching this movie in the near future or even plan on experiencing it in 4DX just like I did.
That said, thoughts! This was actually a pretty fun watch. It prefaces with Bowser anchoring his floating fortress in front of the Penguin King's castle and the Penguin King's army getting a taste of Bowser's fury. From there he claims the Super Star being held there and imprisons all of the Snow Kingdom's inhabitants. The 4DX effects, including motion, were fairly mild but provide a little taste of what's to come further into the movie. There was especially some use of fog and air to provide atmospherics, including forced air that occurs as Bowser uses his fire breath to destroy the Penguin King's castle.
Tumblr media
With that, the movie starts out fairly relaxed with a completely normal day in Brooklyn with the Bros. starting out with their plumbing business. Then everything starts to ramp up steadily with their first job and then the manhole leak, which they find the pipe which transports them into the Mushroom Kingdom. During those parts of the movie I felt a little bit of the action from the Mario Bros. including their jumps and parkour-like maneuvers. This is also where the 4DX effects start to slowly build up in intensity and prepare the audience for the more brutal parts of the film.
However, this is also where I felt like the world building could've been improved. There seemed to be some missed opportunities to further develop his character. I especially felt like I only got to see to a glimpse of his family, too. His life in the Mushroom Kingdom was no different either, as a lot of his run-ins with the Kingdom's denizens seemed rushed. I might not have so much of an issue with it especially as a Mario fan/vet but it might be confusing to those completely new to the franchise. Though, there could be a reason for this too, especially with Nintendo's preference to stray from vivid backstories in Mario's universe.
With that said, I'd like to talk about the fun parts of the film, but mostly the action-y stuff; from Princess Peach's training regimen, to Donkey Kong's challenge, to the karting on Rainbow Road, eventually leading up to the showdown with Bowser. But especially Donkey Kong's scene, holy moly. Let me tell you about it. It's a trip—actually no, it's a roller coaster. The 4DX editors for this film really made sure you felt Mario's pain in the form of violent seat motions. They're pretty much a combination of sudden tilts, rolls and heaves every time Mario gets beaten up and thrown around.
It's especially to the point where the seat hit my upper back and even gave me brief airtime. It is peak whiplash. I think there may have been some use of forced air and water jets too, but it feels somewhat insignificant compared to how the seats move during the fight. It's nuts and it's very effective at actually making me feel bad for Mario here. Eventually, Mario does come across the cat power-up and overpowers DK through his enhanced agility and you also feel DK get a beat-down in the process.
Tumblr media
I enjoyed the kart scenes especially, where it is a slightly smoother experience. It isn't until the Koopa army starts rolling in on Rainbow Road and defeating the Kongs that the motion starts ramping back up in intensity, though not as much as the aforementioned scene. There is some use of atmospherics in play, including wind, fog, air/water jets and strobes. After the blue shell of the Koopa General destroys part of the road, both Mario and DK fall into an ocean where they are eaten by a Maw-Ray which, if I remember well, is where the rain effect comes into play. There has been very occasional use of 4DX's rain effect throughout the film, though my memory has not been the best since watching through some parts of this film in 4DX were sensory overload for me, heh.
So then Bowser. He attempts to marry Princess Peach but his plans are briefly thwarted when Peach finds an opportunity to freeze Bowser and Mario + DK make their way to the wedding via a turbo jet from DK's kart. Lots and lots of action from there, which then ramps up in intensity when Bowser breaks free from his ice prison and sends a Banzai Bill toward the Mushroom Kingdom in a fit of rage. Mario then knocks it off course and sends it into a warp pipe, averting imminent destruction of the Mushroom Kingdom; but then Bowser's castle gets teleported to Brooklyn where the showdown continues. This is where the seats start to move violently again as Mario receives a beat-down from Bowser, feeling seemingly defeated but was reminded of his very mission—to save not only the Mushroom Kingdom, but Brooklyn too. Mario jumps back into the fight alongside Luigi to help him too, and eventually the two grab the Super Star, become invincible, knock Bowser out, shrink him to the size of a pet rat and trap him in a jar, ending his stranglehold on the Mushroom Kingdom and saving Brooklyn from a similar fate.
So, what do I think of this movie? I think it is very fun with a classic 'Mario saves the Princess (and the world)' plot that leaves a little more to be desired. I think most Mario fans will be able to enjoy it. I think the 3D + 4DX features make this an especially very fun watch and they don't distract a whole lot from the actual movie; the effects feel very relevant to what goes on in the movie and are not too gimmicky. However, I'm a bit on the fence on possibly recommending the Super Mario Bros. Movie as a first-time 4DX movie due to the intensity of certain scenes which may agitate those who deal with certain sensory issues like the sensation of bumping into cushions and strong movements of the seats in general.
This can depend on the feature that is being presented with 4DX, but it's always something to keep in mind going into a 4DX theater. Action movies are probably going to be common with most cinemas that offer such types of showings, so strong movements of the seats is a very common characteristic with them. However, if you're really into roller coasters or thrill rides in general as much as I am and you love to go into movies with a sense of adventure and a craving for immersion, I'm certain you'll have no problem breaking into the 4DX format.
Nonetheless I found the experience to be genuinely fun and unforgettable, especially for my first time watching a movie in this format. It's not something I'll be doing all of the time but I will definitely consider booking my next action movie screening in this format. In fact, I'm considering hitting up Across the Spider-Verse in 4DX in about a couple of months. :>
