The narrative that's being created from my gameplay in the Iron Throne is gonna be juicy. I had the party split up to free the hostages - Karlach went one way, Astarion summoned some ghouls and went another, Mae went a third way, and that's the direction that Ulder Ravengard was in, so Wyll followed. Mae frees Ulder but gets caught in a net from a sahuagin. Ulder frees her from that net.
Then Mizora shows up. And summons some exploding spiders. Ulder survives the first two that go off, but he's frozen, by Mizora's orders. Mae helps him out of that. Wyll Misty Steps over to them. And Wyll has boots that allow him one casting of Dimension Door. So he grabs Ulder and teleports out of there.
Leaving Mae behind with four explosive spiders and two sahuagin.

A fellow simp for our favorite sassy but emotionally broken vampire who's still healing. She has tried other romances but can't seem to stop once Astarion gives her his sad boy eyes. Quiet in person but secretly sassy and kinky af. Would make this cake and have it play "The Summoning" from Sleep Token.

No wait, two aren't ship songs, and of those two, one is still a song I use for writing Kass. So really one song that isn't BG3 flavoured

It's Durgetash, it's Kass and Enver, I can't pretend that it's not. It's both of them mourning the lost months, it's both of them convinced they're the ruin of the other. It opens with a verse about corrupting an angel and dragging them down to earth, and yes it's Enver thinking about seducing a demi-god, but it's also Kass ruining herself by becoming Torm's valkyrie so she can fight Bane
God, I was going to say this is THE Durgetash song for me (and god the music video does a lot of the heavy lifting in that regard too) but there's still 8 songs to go so I can't promise that. Needless to say I have been known to put on a 1 hour loop of this song when I'm writing Kass and Enver

I actually got into Teddy Swims from some of his covers, I LOVE his cover of Make You Feel My Love and was hoping that would turn up but I do love this one. I have this one on Rhyme and Gale's playlist, Carmela and Astarion's playlist, and Kass and Enver. It is really good
Tommee Profitt is genuinely one of my favourite artists, and his collabs with Fleurie are always golden. This cover of Avicii's Wake Me Up is just haunting, and it turns such a bop into a song that will linger in my soul forever. It's one of my solo songs for Kass and also for Rhyme, because if I'm not torturing one of them I'm torturing the other
This is the song I had playing when I wrote Enver's death. I had Kass say "come home with me" because I was crying that much over this song
I love The Hu, and I've seen people drag this version because they think Jacoby Shaddix looks out of place but it's??? Fucking great? I mean my favourite song by The Hu is Song of Women ft. Lzzy Hale but this is great. I played it a lot when I wrote the Battle for Baldur's Gate scenes
This is it, the ONE non shipping/non Baldur's Gate related song on the list. Paris Paloma is fantastic. I play this on repeat CONSTANTLY.
This is one of my more generic 'set the mood when writing' songs, so it's not really a song that belongs to anyone in particular. Although for some reason it seems to come up a lot when I'm writing Carmela, which fits. Golden paladin suddenly confronted by the uncomfortable shades of grey morality in the world

Also, we created a multi-player game just so we could watch @kikinickle play bg3 with our d&d characters in tow
A selection of chaos that ensued:
- Running around in wildshape as a polar bear, accidentally stealing and Immediately initiating combat from the npcs (before either of us could begin to explain anything about stealing mechanics)
-Stripping down to her underwear in front of a merchant as she sold the clothes she was wearing to buy new armor
- Failing several perception checks with the tiefling children trying to pickpocket us (tbf I don't think we had anything left to steal after literally selling the clothes off our backs) wildshaping to sneak into their hideout and accidentally stealing (again) and terrorizing Mol enough to get her to -10 attitude and tattling on us.
- Mae found a secret door that had a trap that killed mine and kiki's characters multiple times because we would revive them and then they would immediately get blasted by the trap again.
- Kiki found a rat that told her to follow it under a door. I gave her permission to wildshape into a spider, thinking it would be can-go-under-a-door size and I could just look away, only for her to transform into an UPSETTINGLY LARGE SPIDER. Everyone disliked that
-Spent a very long time figuring out how to get all of our characters to sit on a bench together so we could take a screenshot
We also fully missed picking up Lae'zel and went right on to the Grove so we're gonna have to backtrack.

like i had a rough outline and a rough morality compass for her. but now that some of it is finalized. my brain is literally off to the races. oh what would she do here. oh how would this scene play out. what if. what if. what if.

in my head when astarion admits he was using you for his own security it's a genuine confession. but magni is so confused. because he knew that. and he thought astarion knew he knew that. he thought they were both playing 5d chess this whole time and was trying to hide the fact he fucked it up by getting real, genuine, incredibly messy feelings for The Vampire Elf and now he has to re-evaluate every coy conversation he's had with astarion under that premise over the course of 5 seconds

OUGH ALRIGHT magni backstory ramble time under the cut. was putting this off just in case i wanted to make changes but now i'm committed.
and later im not going to be able to stop myself from rambling abt his companion connections at length so i'm dropping this here as the starting point to keep me CONSISTENT.
refers to mild act 2 spoilers because I need to be a little bit unhinged about things. currently in act 3, but i'm saving that for later because there is so much happening. anyway
bullet point backstory bc it's 11 pm. what up.
used to be a priest(ess) of lolth. raised among devout lolth-sworn, which of course gives him baggage he doesn't even realize exists until like halfway through the game.
'i had a normal childhood' - guy who very much did not have a normal childhood. am i projecting my religious trauma here. who can say
very committed. basically used serving lolth as an elaborate excuse to get away with whatever selfish whims popped into his head
worked alongside two other, equally terrible priestesses under the mutual understanding that they were only 'allies' until they could stab each other in the back
last one standing is loth's fav. you know how it is
did in fact get stabbed in the back when one of them uncovered a secret of his and used it to oust him
fully accepted he was going to get sacrificed to lolth. was pretty chill with it, actually. as far as he was concerned it only made sense.
the priestess who ousted him decided it would be meaner to banish him to the surface instead
she was correct.
became SO INCENSED at being told he was not a worthy sacrifice that it became ALL he cared about
like. he refused to wrap his brain around it, so he just went 'fine, i will claw my way up from the dirt and eat bugs or whatever and i WILL become so fucking impressive that when i come back DOWN here you will HAVE to sacrifice me. that's how good i'll be.
'also maybe i'll trans my gender while i'm at it bc at this point I Have Nothing To Lose'
lost ability to use magic in the middle of this and just refused to think about the 'god abandoned me' implications
knew nothing about the surface. broke into places, stole, and murdered to survive. discovered life was easier if you got good at lying, just in case you got caught stealing. and he was already Very good at lying.
once he got it all figured out, he fell into organized crime VERY easily, while still secretly holding onto his General Disdain for everyone around him. this was not hard to do. people are shitty to you when you're a drow.
spent a couple decades fighting, stealing, and occasionally murdering if you paid him or annoyed him enough. mentally tucks away all of the crimes he does as 'for lolth' even though he's lowkey aware that's not how that works. there's a bunch of complicated stuff going on in his brain up there and he is avoiding all of it.
basically he starts the game an expert manipulator who FULLY expects to just eventually murder these people he keeps picking up because it Has to be that way, except thru act 1 he. doesn't. and then he starts to get used to them. enough that at camp he starts to drop his Eternal Performance, which everyone initially writes off as 'magni being weirdly dismissive and blunt for some reason' until late act 1 when they realize 'oh wait. that's what he's REALLY LIKE. he was LYING.'
his feelings towards the companions and himself and his goals get incredibly complicated. sometimes he sucks. sometimes he doesn't. gale makes him ask himself questions he does not want to know the answer to, but he can't just let it GO now that he's asking them. the people around him are trusting him with their deepest secrets and desires and it is FREAKING HIM OUT because he doesn't know how to do anything with secrets except destroy. so he drops the act further thru act 2. except they're still doing it. because they know what he's like by now. and they know that sometimes! he refrains from doing the mean selfish thing! because they wouldn't like it! and he hates that he feels that way and is occasionally halfheartedly mean and petty later like it's going to make the uncomfortable taste in his mouth go away but he is forming attachments to these people and there is NOTHING he can do about that
anyway. i'm going to shake my laptop later re: gale being asked to Explode by his god and how it forces magni to look literally his Only Driving Goal For Decades (getting eaten by spiders) in the face and ask himself if that's really what he wanted, but i'm in full hyperfixation mode. also he just rly loves astarion. he can't say that word though. feels wrong in his mouth
it's also put him in the weird act 3 spot of being the person who has already ASKED himself the hard questions that everyone else is now asking. he is, for the first time ever, somewhat the reasonable one. which means he's gotta accept he thinks differently about things than he used to. which he doesn't like. but he's embraced the softness, he just doesn't want you to mention it.
and sometimes he just goes and stands in a cold lake at 1 am so he doesn't have to think about anything. you know how it goes

I'm calling upon the baldur's gate 3 enjoyers who want to listen to me be unhinged because i'm having a 'who to romance' crisis and i need feedback. yes i'm at work right now. and i'm only in act 1. but LISTEN. shakes my awful little guy upside down and steals his lunch money
magni:
drow rogue. raised to worship lolth. considers his 'devotion' to the goddess as more a devotion to chaos, because he's completely certain that if given the chance lolth would just eat him.
he's completely unbothered by that, prompting everyone in the party to be like 'bro are you ok'
thinks he's very smart for going 'nothing in life matters! (skateboard kickflip)' to fuel his selfish behavior and is very irritated that the people in his camp are making him actually examine that
lives to cause problems on purpose. literally. it's his only motivation for anything (for now)
to make it WORSE he is an exceptional liar who is not against playing the long game, so you may not realize he is being absolutely horrible about something until the Dawning Realization Hits.
He's going to face Consequences for that. Eventually. There Will Be Growth i promise he is going to learn how not to be terrible and he is going to hate it the whole time
which leads me to.
i hate having to make romance decisions quickly because i want to like... pay attention to character dynamics instead lmao. but i understand WHY it's that way. I'm just a baby.
astarion or lae'zel are probably the only options that make sense rn, but i'm just here like. what if there's another option that would be more fun and i just don't know enough of everyone's secrets. I turned down Gale and i've been sitting here for like 2 days going 'BUT WHAT IF......'
magni and lae'zel are currently very similar, but he's lies and deception where she's blunt and honest. I kind of like the idea of keeping them Terrible Besties though. having to confront their issues together and hating every minute of it. he's like i think i'm dating someone and she's like '''dating''' what a stupid word. and he's like yeah i know wtf is up with that
which leaves astarion, but i'm getting the feeling astarion is secretly an angry puppy under 12 layers of posturing and magni's current form of showing affection is 'i will kill that guy for you but first i will ruin 3 generations of his estate' and his usual reaction to emotional vulnerability is to internally do an evil little :) like you should not have told me that. he would not know what to do when someone he does not actually want to hurt gives him information he could hurt them with. it would freak him out. he would not sleep for 2 days
In the end i'm probably going to end up headcanoning impossible poly romances (gale watching him be a bastard like 'i can fix him' while astarion goes no he is going to actively make you worse) but like. if you have thoughts on the romances, lay em on me. I've avoided spoilers but i'd be super interested in knowing if any of them are like.. extra good or surprising lol. ya feel me. am i making sense. i feel like the pepe silvia meme

ok one more and then i SWEAR i will Quit It (for now)
but. honestly the biggest difference between magni & astarion's brand of Charlatan is flair. magni's a very 'set up the dominoes and then kick back and watch them fall' kind of guy, so his charisma/persuasiveness is more knowing what to say, when to push, and when to say nothing because the seed he planted is already doing the hard work, so why waste his energy. it gives him the illusion of being calm and dependable when he's rly just biding his time dropping the other shoe.
HE CAN be a sarcastic mf but that's more his actual bluntess/opinions sneaking out despite himself than actually attempting to be witty. he is good at the one liners though.
