Disabled queer person in financial need, please signal boost
Heyo, for folks who don't know I'm Awpie and I'm in a bit of a bind. I'm a blind mentally ill queer person without a job or a college degree, getting by pretty much solely on SSA. Over the past couple of months my cat Tiso (pictured below) has been in and out of the hospital with struvite crystals in his bladder, creating blockages and putting his life in serious danger. He is back home now and on a new prescription diet that will hopefully prevent this from ever happening again, but between the two separate instances of urinary blockages and needing to be kept in the hospital for up to 72 hours each stay while the vets had him hooked up to a catheter, I have accrued a lot of medical debt.

Between my parents and I we were able to ensure he got the medical care he needed when he needed it, but it has left us with some very large bills that are going to eventually need to be paid off. Both of my parents are elderly and also surviving only on SSA, and between my mother caring for my ailing father and my inability to secure a stable job, these debts are putting us in a really tight situation. At the same time, I have also been attempting to save up funds to take a trip back home at the end of the year to visit my parents and spend time with them one last time before my father's health completely fails. I don't normally like to do this, but we could really use some help.

Waldo has his little bald leg because of the IV he got when he had his MRI and he’s wearing a sweater in August to make a bald patch on his back from a pain relief patch more comfy under his harness, but more is to come
Waldo’s VERY EXPENSIVE surgery is literally on Tuesday and the thought of paying for it makes me nauseous. He’s worth it, but it’s definitely scary. If you happen to be able to help, you can go here, and if you can’t, he and I and his sister Ivy would really appreciate the signal boost. We're super excited to announce our second edition of the Sloane Washington Appreciation Week! After receiving some wonderful pieces last year, we can't wait to celebrate our wonderful, iconic "Science Queen" again! Here's a look at last year's entries!
As with last year, we will be celebrating her week around the same time the International Day of Women and Girls in Science is held (Feb 11th). We've also got a few new and very cute themes this time around - including some of Sloane's interests.
This event will be held from February 7th to February 11th, 2023. Any content is welcome, as long as it is positive and Sloane-focused: fic, art, edits, moodboards, meta, headcanons, interactive media - even simple appreciation text posts! You can even post your favourite Sloane scene.
Most of the days will have two different themes, so you can choose which one you'd like to do your piece on and tag it accordingly. Here are the themes for each day:
Feb 7th: Character Appreciation/Throwback
Feb 8th: Penguins/Greek Mythology
Feb 9th: Relationships (Friends/Romance/Family)
Feb 10th: Home/Outer Space
Feb 11th: STEM Day!
The themes aren't particularly restricted to the days, but tagging them for that day will really help us with the masterlist! So even if you create something later, just tag it for the day specified.
Typically, we also leave an extra week in case you need more time, and don't mind including WIPs. So don't worry if what you have for SWAW isn't entirely complete - we'd still love to see it! We also love celebrating throwback pieces, so if you'd like to submit a piece you'd done before, do consider going through this Throwback Piece Asklist or telling us about your process in creating the piece.

my friend urgently needs help
I'm making this post for my friend who doesn't have a tumblr because she's struggling financially and has a hard time asking for help. she's a mentally ill lesbian (I know she has depression + probably a lot of other things but there's currently no room for her to get help). she's taking care of her mom and siblings, as well as her 3 nieces.
their electric company threatened to turn off their electricity by the 10th of November. they'll be able to put it off a little longer, but they have to pay them at least another 2900€ debt + 800€ for this month's gas + electricity. her bank account is 1000€ in the red to top it off, so we'd be incredibly grateful if you could donate or signal boost this! reblogs are appreciated ♥

Her mom's unable to work because she broke her wrist and medical malpractice + surgeries lead to her having CRPS. Her siblings are both severely mentally ill (autism, depression, soxial anxiety, more.) and her older sister lives in an abusive relationship, so my friend ends up taking care of her 3 nieces all the time. she's really one of the sweetest people I know and always has my back so I really hate to see her suffer like this.

📚 Your plans for your writing: a couple of questions for you...
Writeblr friends! I'd love to see your answers to these questions via comment or reblog, and I'd really appreciate a signal boost for the post, if you don't mind, so it can reach beyond the people who I already know here.
📝 THE QUESTIONS
Are there any of you out there who AREN'T currently aiming towards traditional publishing (where a publishing company produces and distributes your books), mainstream self-publishing (where you publish and sell your own books through mainstream book sales platforms like Amazon), or monetised web publishing (where you post stories in a serialised format so people can read them in return for payment on platforms like Patreon, Kindle Vella or Radish)?
If you AREN'T aiming for those routes, are you planning to directly sell your work (through platforms like Gumroad, a Ko-fi shop, or your own website), offer it for free with an option to tip (where people can access, read and/or download your work and then choose to give you a tip through a site like Ko-fi or PayPal) or offer it for free with no option for payment at all (sharing original fiction or fanfiction on any web platform, like Wattpad, Tumblr, Ao3, or your own website)?
✍ WHY I'M ASKING AND WHY YOU MATTER
A lot of writing-related content I see online is very publishing and business focused, whether directly about the publishing industry, or geared towards the craft of writing specifically with a view to mainstream trad or self publishing.
I've been thinking a lot about writing as a creative pursuit and passion, and how many writers who choose not to pursue mainstream publication options are still very much interested in honing their craft, engaging with other writers, and dedicating time and energy to sharing their stories.
I'm rolling some ideas around in my head about the kind of content that might apply specifically to us, and while it's all still very much in the idea rolling stage, I'd love to connect with other people who might be interested in that kind of content.
This isn't a invitation to debate the merits of different types of publishing, engage in platform wars, or argue about who is a 'real' writer and who isn't (I believe you're all way above that kind of attitude anyway).
It's an invitation to raise your hand if you aren't aiming along more traditional or mainstream routes to publish your writing, to share some musings about why (if you feel so inclined) and to find others who are in a similar place.
If you'd like to be tagged in future posts about "not a business but more than a hobby" writing stuff, please add that to your response and I'll give you a heads up with any further questions or conversations while I try to figure out how to create useful, relevant content for us 💜

I don’t start my job for a few more days but my bills continue to mount and I won’t get any paycheck for at least a few more weeks.
I’m really desperate for any help and donations that you can provide dear reader; we are really right on grocery money and my phone remains shut off, amongst other issues. I also still have a $60 tax bill that I must pay by the 17th and if I could at least cover that I’d be thrilled, as it’s coming out of my account whether the money is there or not 😰

Why are splints and braces so fucking expensive? I just want to be able to function without having to spend hundreds of fucking dollars. Why? Why is it like this? Are you reading my quarantine fic?
The one where Steve and Tony hook up after a night at a bar and have to self-isolate together for the next two weeks?
It's up to chapter 5/15, and I've written and posted 12k in 10 days which is a huge deal for me :) It's so much fun to write and I've got a lot of support from a lot of you beautiful people which I'm really thankful for.

The fourth beer comes quite unexpectedly, from a guy Steve has not spotted before. He can usually tell if people are watching him, even if they are not in his line of sight, but he had not seen this guy, not before the bartender puts the beer in front of him. Steve turns to the direction the bartender points to and the guy raises his glass, nods and -- wow, smiles.
There is something magical about that smile. It’s beautiful and earnest and it kinda lights up the guy’s face. Sparkles shine in his eyes and butterflies start to fly in Steve's stomach. Things seem to run away, all of a sudden; and he feels like he is 20 again, carefree and shy and damn he is absolutely blushing.
“May I sit down?”
Steve looks up and it feels like someone has knocked the breath out of his lungs. He opens and closes his mouth and tries to say something but no sound seems to come out. He nods, after many attempts at finding words and failing miserably, and the guy sits down on the stool next to him, not even two inches away.
Steve tries to look away. He wants to be polite and not stare, he wants to at least take a sip from the drink the guy has bought him but he just can’t. He looks at the guy and his dark fluffy hair and wonders if that third drink has actually got to him because he seems to have a hard time keeping his hands to himself. He suddenly has this urge to touch this man; those eyes, that hair and the perfect mesmerizing whole-face smile.
“Tony,” he says and he stretches his hand out. Steve manages to grab the hand and shake it, and mumble something which, thank God, sounds very much like his own name. The guy, Tony, brings his other hand forward, holds on to Steve’s hand with both of his own and smiles again. “Nice to meet you, Steve,” and Steve’s heart starts to race in his chest.
