Loki fans when Loki’s baited with a caring, loving relationship only for him to go back in a cycle of torment, abuse, and his impending demise playing on repeat in his mind after people said that this was going to be Loki’s healing process:

Loki and Sylvie both think the other is more fucked up then they are and they have loud arguments about this in front of other people who are now traumatised from these apparently normal life experience

I’ve come to the conclusion, bad childhoods only work on certain occasions and depending on the variety of the crimes said person commits.

Loki from marvel? The bad childhood storyline? It works for him. In his story he’s really the only one with a bad childhood (excluding the rest of the avengers). If you take thor in the first movie? He’s arrogant and he was willing going to commit genocide to an entire planet for basic fun while completely praised by his father. Loki trying to take over earth is not redeemable (though most believe he was under the power of thanos), but more justifiable considering his story compared to thor in the first movie.

Snape from hp? He had a bad childhood. So did almost every character in the books. He wasn’t misguided, he had Lily who gave him several opportunities to turn himself around and he refused too. When showing so many other character around him who also suffered but made the right decision, his storyline doesn’t offer him redemption.

Ben Solo from Star Wars? Listen this man gets hardly any backstory except he hates his father? Why? We don’t know. I couldn’t imagine getting a bad childhood from Leia and Han. If Luke can look at Vader and say he’s redeemable and can’t do that for Ben? Who am I to judge! Plus he immediately goes and kills everyone and blows up planets right after!!! It doesn’t work for him

Azula from atla? (It’s been very long since I’ve watched this show but Salma talks about it enough that I can deduce my findings) aang is literally the only surviving member of his people (enough said). Zuko rises and learns from his mistakes. All of these children have suffered in some way and none of have made decisions comparable to her. It doesn’t redeem her.

I saw the ask about having the person feeling like that the Loki show is objectively bad. I liked the show, here is why.

I love Loki, and I love the MCU, but I don’t go into any of it expecting consistency. Tony and Loki are my favourite.

Tony goes through character development in his own movies, IM3 especially that main canon just kinda ignores. So I didn’t go into work he Loki show expecting them to get him consistent or right. I just went in prepared to enjoy the show for what it is in isolation. I also know that no one looks at the stories they write for the MCU critically, so I try and turn off that for a first time watch.

I really like the show, that doesn’t mean I think they made it consistent or in character for Loki. I get why people don’t like it.

I really like the TVA and all the concepts it introduced. I really liked seeing Tom acting his heart out. And I really like Loki/Sylvie because I find something very compelling about a character who hates themselves, meeting another version of themselves and being able to love them. It is not a ship I’m going to write fic about but I like them within the show.

Basically what I am saying is that I go into MCU media with the expectation they will mess up at least one character or plot point badly every time. I like the media for what it is, and I appreciate whatever it brings to the table that I can then cannibalise into da works.

Yeah that's fair. Everyone has a right to their own opinion. Fandom is better when there are a diversity of opinions and we can all respect each other and engage in open and good faith discussion rather than attacking people for having the "wrong" views or trying to harass them out of fandom.

For me personally I feel like the show fails on 3 fronts.

1) To me it fails as a Loki show. I really enjoy Loki as a character and I wanted a show about him. And I didn't personally see him in the show at all. I saw a completely different character who does not behave, speak, act, respond, react, stand, emote, or make choices like Loki does. He doesn't even LOOK like Loki because they did his hair and makeup wrong. And that's really what I wanted. I didn't want Larry (as I call the show character). I wanted Loki. That was what was advertised and to me he was so ooc that he was unrecognizable. If I just saw a clip out of context and didn't know what it was from I would have assumed I was seeing Tom in a totally different role.

Thor Ragnarok felt like a different take on Loki that definitely retconned some of his personality and history, but still felt like an alternate interpretation of the same character in the sense that I could recognize the character as Loki (albeit a different version of him); some people liked that, other didn't. But here it wasn't that. It just felt like a completely new (and to me far less interesting and compelling) character. And beyond that it felt like the show went out of its way to make a mockery of the character played by Tom and by extension anyone who ever cared about Loki's character. Like it felt like a mean spirited caricatured parody. Loki is also extremely sidelined in what is supposed to be his own show. And it most certainly didn't feel like a show about Loki, which is what I wanted. So for me the show didn't provide what I was looking for.

2) To me it also fails on its own merits. If I view it in isolation without comparing it to previous canon and just view it as its own thing it also fails. The quality of the dialogue felt very poor. None of the humor made me laugh and it all felt very juvenile and forced. The plotting and characterization seemed nonsensical and all over the place. Like Sylvie sets off those charges and the episode ends on a cliffhanger with that but then it's never addressed later.

The reason that Loki and Syvie allegedly falling in love breaks the timeline didn't really make sense. Sylvie is going around murdering timekeepers and yet Mobius somehow immediately like and trusts her and says he prefers her to Loki. Loki and Sylvie are simultaneously presented as the same person and also totally different people. Loki allegedly learns self love but we never see that - we see him call himself degrading things like pathetic. And we see him think that Sylvie is better than him. That doesn't seem like self love. The romance feels extremely rushed and unrealistic and awkward and we aren't given a compelling reason for why they are in love or what they even have in common. Sylvie doesn't really have much of a character. Mobius and Loki don't interact much and Mobius consistently mistreats him but Loki somehow thinks of him as a friend. Mobius is portrayed as a good guy for cheerfully carrying out the TVA's ends but Kang is a villain for creating the TVA. The TVA seems to be all made up of humans even though it's in charge of all reality.

If Loki did bad things, then the TVA did worse things and thus are not moral authorities. If the TVA’s actions are acceptable then so are Loki’s. If Loki was wrong to violently impose his will on a planet (let’s forget about the context with Thanos for a minute) then the TVA is wrong to violently impose its will on all of reality in order to eliminate free will. If Loki was wrong to kill a few people, then the TVA was certainly wrong to kill trillions. And thus neither Mobius nor the TVA are moral authorities when it comes to Loki because they are infinitely worse. If the actions that Mobius and the TVA took are acceptable, then there is no reason to criticize Loki because he did far less than them. Etc etc etc.

The cinematography is also very poor and unprofessional and the costumes look extremely cheap and unprofessional. The whole story feels confused and disjointed. The directing is bad because the actors are all very capable but the performances often feel wooden and forced and fake. And the pacing is terrible. A lot of it drags and then plot twists come out of nowhere with no setup so it just makes them feel jarring rather than earned or entertaining. 

3) To me it also fails on a moral front. The show contains a lot of problematic depictions and messages and promotes messages that are offensive or even downright harmful.

Mobius gleefully subjects Loki to physical torture by leaving him to be repeatedly beaten in the genital area. This is a very clearcut and straight forward example of physical torture. And Mobius feels no compassion for Loki or remorse over what he has done to him. If anything he seems to find it amusing. And certainly the audience is supposed to find it amusing (which is gross and harmful messaging on Disney’s part). He also subjects Loki to psychological torture. This is a fact. There are multiple instances in the show where the TVA and Mobius subject Loki to treatment that would meet the legal definition of torture under both US law and international law. Furthermore, Mobius and the TVA are holding Loki against his will and forcing him to labor without compensation or any hope of release because they view him as belonging to a group of people (Variants) that they view as inferior and not really people. That’s a pretty textbook case of slavery. So objectively Mobius is Loki’s jailer, torturer, captor, and enslaver. And yet Mobius is presented as justified in what he does to Loki. The writer and director have even called it therapy. And a result many people have parroted this which is very harmful.

The queer “representation” feels straight out of bigoted propaganda. Loki’s personality traits have been retconned to map onto harmful stereotypes about queer men. He is overly expressive, makes grand gestures, is flamboyant, cowardly, dishonest, weak, bad at fighting, lazy, spineless, meek, unused to exercise etc. Now a person could be all these things and also happen to be queer. However, Loki was never like this before. His character was retconned to be this way only in this series where he is confirmed to be queer.

Furthermore, the entire premise of the series seems to be that it is funny and entertaining and justified when Loki is dehumanized, mocked, humiliated, hurt, tortured, beaten, assaulted, and/or robbed of his dignity. That’s the premise. That’s the whole show.

In addition to pro torture and pro authoritarianism and pro victim blaming messaging the show also has problematic depictions of black characters  (see here and here), Asian people (see here) and also has a lot of fludphobia and transphobia issues. And much more.

@nikkoliferous has put together a great compendium here of various posts explaining the various issues with the show if you're curious about why some people disliked it.

The more I think about it, the angrier I get at the way the show handled Loki's traumas. They said they would it explore it and then they went ahead and created a version of Loki who unlike him isn't a pampered prince and was kidnapped as a child and didn't even have a therapy session with Mobius :(( Trauma obvs isn't a competition but all the show's and producers' takes I've seen make it seem like it is one and one they want Loki to lose.

incredibly disrespectful takes on mental health coming from that show, right next to the views on pro-authoritarianism which the director said she agrees with at some point and the extremely racist role distributions :/

I don't hate the Loki show (there are those who do and that's valid, I've said it before and I'll say it again. You're allowed to hate parts of things you love.)

Honestly I don't hate the show, I loved the show. There's no way I could hate a show about Loki. We got SIX full episodes of Loki content. We got a shirtless Tom Hiddleston moment! We got to see Loki really use his telekinesis. More knife flips. Hair flips! Tom's real hair, not a wig. A Loki hug from a friend and a Loki kiss from a love interest. The lighting and camera work should be considered art. Beautiful imagery. The acting was exceptional.

The thing is that there were so many little (and not so little) problems that kept building. Everything that I mentioned above was tainted by something. I don't want to get into all the things I had a problem with here. I've mentioned some of the big ones before.

What I want to say is that just because you like something, doesn't mean you have to stay silent when there are things about it you don't like. Especially when those things are really important to you. And I mean when the item you like is important and when the things about it you don't like are important.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. And just because someone dislikes something you like or vice versa, does not mean you get to bash them personally. If someonee is pro-sylki you don't get to bash them, and the same holds if someone is anti-sylki you don't get to bash them.

And to add to that no one needs a reason to not like something. It is perfectly acceptable to say "I don't like this scene/thing" and have absolutely no logic behind it.

I think I'm not alone in saying that I had such high expectations for the show. But each episode I felt more and more scared to watch because I felt myself becoming cynical. All the things I loved felt overshadowed by the things I didn't. I wanted to love it unconditionally, but I've accepted that isn't possible. And I'm ok with that. I still stand by saying "I love the show, but I think there are parts of it that could have been done better/differently".

And while some only want to bash the show and some even worse, want to cause harm to the actors and crew. I genuinely share my opinions because I want others to understand why I feel these things are harmful. If we ignore the flaws and say you have to love all of it because it's Loki, then you let creators continue to do those things. And because I still have some hope that future shows can be better.

I think discussion leads to better content. And even if nothing ever comes of it, posts let people get out their emotions. Some of the topics are really close to people's hearts. So discussion can be a bit of therapy too.

I'll just finish by saying please be FUCKING RESPECTFUL to each other. Discuss your opinions on the show, if that's pro or con. But don't attack people. This applies universally, having an opinion on something does not give you the right to hurt other people. Stay honest but stay kind.

Avengers Endgame first impressions SPOILERS UNDER THE CUT

Starting with cons, because they need to be expressed.

Cons:

- Thor’s characterization. There’s explanations that sound reasonable, but Jesus Christ I don’t think I’ve ever seen an established characterization get ruined this badly ever. The drinking I’m mostly fine with, but fucking Fortnite? Not staying on New Asgard? Someone call Taika, the old white men broke Thor again.

- Where the fuck was Carol the whole movie? I get that people were afraid she’d overshadow everyone, but the solution to that was not to restrict her screentime to all of like, 15 minutes. Out of a three hour movie. Speaking of...

- This movie did not need to be three hours long. If I could I’d take the lengths of this movie and Infinity War and swap them, because this movie has some really boring filler and nonsense scenes i.e. Cap v Cap.

- Steven fucking Moffat could write more consistent rules for time travel. They couldn’t be seen by their past selves, except Present Nebula literally killed her past self and there were no consequences? What the actual hell? Steve went back in time to be with Peggy which both raises questions about how he allowed SHIELDRA to be a thing, and how he didn’t break time.

- Peter Parker’s writing annoys me endlessly, but that’s nothing new. What was evident was the fact that Holland had no proper script for Tony’s death, so he was using the same performance as when he died in IW. Spoiler paranoia culture is fucking dumb.

- Hulk’s CGI was weird and freaked me out, but you know what was worse? Skipping the entire character arc Waititi started with Banner and Hulk starting to unite. Oh no, no need to do the hard work of actually writing the relationship developing properly, just timeskip!

- If you’re going in for the supposedly canon queer character introduction, don’t. It’s a male extra with about two lines who mentions going on a date with a ‘he’.

- Undoing all of Loki and Gamora’s character development is just gross.

Pros: - Morgan Stark was adorable.

- Rhodey got to shine once again. He was hilariously deadpan. Give me the War Machine Disney+ show, please.

- The performances were all good, but special shout-outs to Karen Gillan, RDJ, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, and Bradley Cooper.

- Extra special shout-out to Paul Rudd. I’m lukewarm on the Ant-Man movies, but he was utterly stellar here.

- The final battle was incredibly climactic. I may have issues with the length of the battle, but what was there was fantastically epic and felt like a grand conclusion to the Infinity Saga.

- The effects were all gorgeous. Special shout-out to the time travel effects, they were just plain cool.

- Cap with Mjolnir was awesome. I’m not the biggest Steve Rogers fan, but I can admit this felt properly earned and was properly incredible. 

- Sam’s Captain America! I love it and I can’t wait for Falcon & Winter Soldier. Although now it should really be called Captain America & Winter Soldier.

- The five year timeskip aging up Cassie means Young Avengers might happen! Vision’s dead though, so I do wonder how they’re gonna pull off Tommy and Billy.

- SHORT HAIR CAROL. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA. I’m a gay man, but hot damn she looked good.

- Music throughout was great. Alan Silvestri will go down as one of the greats.

- It was great to see Valkyrie again, and putting her in charge of Asgard is great.

- The mechanics may have made no sense, but the time travel was great fun. My theater erupted when the big NEW YORK - 2012 title card popped up on screen.

- The portrayals of grief were great while they lasted. Natasha burying herself in work, Clint’s murder spree, Steve trying to move on through group therapy, Thor drinking himself to death - though this was almost completely ruined by how much it was played for laughs, the beginning of this film was about grief and I love that.

- Natasha’s death scene. Best death in the MCU, by far. Just her and Clint on Vormir, trying to die for each other’s sakes. Her ending was heartbreaking, although killing off the only woman OG Avenger? Hmmm.

- Tony’s death. Despite the aforementioned issues with Holland’s performance, everyone else was great. RDJ, Don Cheadle, and Gwyneth Paltrow all broke my heart.

All in all, I really liked this movie. Not quite as good as other MCU movies, but definitely worth watching. I’ll see if my impressions change on a second watch. For now, my rankings go Avengers 1>Infinity War>Endgame>AoU.

Some Possibilities of Bringing Vision Back

So...I’m at a loss for what to write post-Endgame. My mind is overwhelmed with theories and each one leads down a potentially negative (i.e. White Vision-y) path because there are serious repercussions no matter the solution to bringing Vision back. Raising the dead is never consequence free. So I figured I would channel that towards a post that, once WandaVision comes out, I will look back on and laugh at myself for being so damn wrong at every step. 

Buckle on in, this is going to be a long ride through the (not at all exhaustive) ways Marvel might bring Vision back and the issues each one could create.

Option 1: Shuri, with the help of Bruce and Helen, reconstructs Vision’s brain, neural networks, and skull, and bring him back. 

Pros: This has been alluded to in Infinity War. It was the entire basis of removing the Mind Stone from Vision. It is our Vision, just reconstructed.

Cons: We actually have no proof that removing the Mind Stone still leaves the best of Vision. Bruce very well could have been desperate and absolutely full of shit. Though its powers are not fully explained, based on past movies, the Mind Stone seems to do several things (shout out to @my-name-stitch for watching A1 recently and providing a thorough rundown of what the Mind Stone did). 

It can control people’s minds -- Loki uses it for this, Wanda can mentally manipulate people, it is the mind stone. 

It seems to have the propensity to greatly increase the mental ability and knowledge of individuals under its influence. This is seen in the first Avengers movie with both Clint and Dr. Selvig. 

It can subtly manipulate and control people on its own -- in Avengers it increased the negative emotions of the team as they argued, and it impacted Loki’s decision making as well.

It also has a certain level of sentience itself, as seen in Age of Ultron. Not only does it possess a neural-like network that appears to be thinking, but it also granted sentience to Ultron and, arguably, to Vision. 

It can be used to physically manipulate things and to manifest power that can be used to harm things -- think VIsion’s beam and phasing abilities. Plus Loki uses it to power his scepter. 

All of that taken together means that they, first of all, likely need to find another way to kickstart Vision into sentience. Perhaps Shuri can craft a solar gem (a popular device I’ve seen in fics and theories, and what Vision has in the comics). Even if this does work, it assumes that Vision’s consciousness is derived from more than the Mind stone. It is entirely possible that without the Mind Stone he simply becomes a fleshy conduit for J.A.R.V.I.S.. Even if J.A.R.V.I.S. is a very nice AI, he is still an AI, not a sentient being. We could end up with a rather empty Vision who just is really good at surfing the internet and files to provide answers. That doesn’t really allow for much emotional connection or independent thought. 

But let’s be hopeful and say that doesn’t happen, it could still leave Vision with some deficits compared to what he had before. One, unless Shuri can recreate the extremely powerful, otherworldly organicity of the Mind Stone, Vision likely won’t have the sheer level of intelligence and increased mental abilities. Which is fine, he can learn, but I imagine it would be difficult to go from obscenely intelligent to not having that sort of mental acumen. Two, as far as we know, vibranium does not have properties that inherently allow someone to fly or shift their density or manipulate their molecules. Vision would still be mostly indestructible, but he is going to have to learn a new power set and actually shop for some clothes. It is possible Shuri can figure out a way to do some of that, probably at least fly and some level of molecular manipulation like the Black Panther suit that stores impact energy. These aren’t awful things, but it is going to impact Vision because he is going to have to learn to cope with his very different way of existing and the potential feelings of being a sort of new person. This potential loss of identity could lead to brooding, doubts about himself, listlessness, and might strain his relationships.

Another thing to keep in mind with this approach (and really most of these) is that we don’t know how repairing his brain will work. Will he have some level of traumatic brain injury? He essentially had a full lobotomy. If they don’t reconnect the neurons correctly, or if it is different in some way, if anything was irrevocably destroyed, you have to deal with what comes of harming the frontal lobe. Some options include: 

Hindering working memory, which impacts attention and the ability to retrieve information from your secondary memory. 

Increases in impulsivity and decreases in thoughtful decision making 

Potential declines in emotional control and increases in aggression

Loss of intelligence and reasoning abilities

Loss of social skills and responding to social stimuli

Loss of empathetic reasoning 

All of that sounds suspiciously like White Vision.

It’s also possible that, due to his synthetic nature, none of this manifests, but it would be surprising for there to be no effects whatsoever from getting your frontal lobe violently torn out. 

Option 2: Now that we have the multiverse, let’s grab an alternate timeline Vision.

Pros: We get a fully functioning, uninjured Vision. 

Cons: This one is a bit of an ethical mess. First of all, what about the alternate timeline Wanda? Are we really just going to leave her high and dry? I doubt our Wanda would be willing to do that. Unlike Steve who was able to go into an alternate timeline where he knew the other Steve didn’t exist for Peggy (because he was frozen), they would have to search high and low for some timeline where Wanda wasn’t there, and if she wasn’t there, then Vision doesn’t love her. Second, this Vision might not be the same as our Vision. In the multiverse there are infinite possibilities, he could be a very different person, or even a subtly different person. It would be a gamble whether he and our timeline’s Wanda would even mesh. Third, not only does this impact the Wanda of that timeline, but I imagine taking an entire person from a timeline is going to splinter it into a darker reality, especially because you are taking an infinity stone with it, something the Ancient One warned Bruce not to do. This seems like the least likely and the most ethically dubious. 

Option 3: Now that we have the multiverse, let’s grab a new Mind Stone

I posted this theory before, but here’s a shortened run down. They could use the multiverse to go to a timeline right before Thanos destroys the stones for good. Instead of destroying all the stones, Wanda (with help) manages to get the Mind Stone and bring it back for our timeline’s Vision.

Pros: We get a Mind Stone. Since the Mind Stone of that alternate timeline was about to be destroyed, we don’t have to worry about splintering that reality because we aren’t taking something that was going to keep influencing it. It was going to be destroyed. So long as the other stones are destroyed, it also shouldn’t impact that reality when the unsnapped Avengers go to confront Thanos and realize the stones are gone. We maintain the consciousness aspect of the Mind Stone which was at issue with the first option of a new gem. 

Cons: This is very dangerous. This is sending Wanda and whoever goes with her against a Thanos who has all the stones. Even though we know Wanda can take him, it is still a big risk. The biggest con, however, is that we are assuming this Mind Stone 1. works the same as our timeline’s Mind Stone and 2. That it really only gives Vision his consciousness and powers. It is entirely possible that it could impact Vision’s behaviors or his emotions or even his memory. We now have our Vision who has both his own memories and emotions while also potentially having the reverberations of this other Vision. He’s going to feel like two people living in the same body with Wanda flickering in and out of being who she is in our timeline and who she was in this other Vision’s timeline. It could be disorienting and cause a rift in their relationship. I think they could overcome it, learn to love each other, but it would take time and a lot of couple’s therapy. 

Option 4: Wanda discovers her reality warping powers and crafts a reality where Vision exists. 

Pros: We get Vision back (sort of)!

Cons: This really can only end in tragedy. Eventually the reality will crumble, someone will make her aware that Vision isn’t actually there, and we might get a House of M style breakdown. Arguably this would be the most in line with Wanda’s comic storyline, but it would come at the detriment of likely never getting Vision back again and Wanda becoming a villain/not trusted by everyone else. 

Option 5: Shuri reconstructs Vision and Wanda discovers her ability to do interdimensional magic and gets Vision’s consciousness from another dimension

Pros: We get to see Wanda learn magic, preferably from Agatha Harkness. This is similar to getting the Mind Stone from an alternate timeline, but maybe it is  possible that Wanda could actually reach back into our timeline and somehow get Vision’s consciousness from his actual Mind Stone. Then we get Vision, we get his consciousness, the only thing he might not have are the powers from the Mind Stone itself (and that whole lobotomy thing). 

Cons: This is a high risk-high reward path. Entering into interdimensional magic also introduces the possibility of getting Chthon or some darker force that comes in to inhabit Vision - in line with the leaks from however many months ago. It doesn’t fix any of the anatomical issues Vision experiences with Option 1 and Shuri bringing him back, but it does solve the issue of getting whatever consciousness of his resides in the Mind Stone back to our Vision. It, again, could also unleash elder gods and dark spirits, but then at least they have a villain to fight together!

Option 6: It’s all in Vision or Wanda’s head (not necessarily a warped reality). 

Pros: We get to see them happy, in love, and living out a life they wanted. 

Cons: It’s not real. This I do think has the possibility of being a deeply emotional and nuanced look at grief and accepting the death of a loved one (or yourself...I guess, if it’s Vision). If they went this route I would be surprised if Vision actually came back. So it could be an ephemeral, slightly trippy (because the illusion has to fade) love letter to their relationship that leaves us with a sense of longing for what could be but also, potentially, a sense of peace because Wanda won’t go down the mentally unstable House of M route. 

There are other theories and deviations from these, especially, I assume, if we draw on more from the comics. But that’s where I’m at for now. 

TMI

Random little crack AU in which Tony is Peter’s dad and coparents with May. There’s minor Peter P/Ned, which results in poor Peter getting a sex ed lesson he doesn’t want. Also he’s trans because I’m fond of that headcanon.

Tony sits across from Peter, horrified that this day has come but more horrified by how this day has come. “Do I really need-” Peter starts but Tony cuts him off.

“Yes Peter, you do. Now sit your skinny little ass down because I did not spend fifteen hours researching trans men and sex only to spend most of that time avoiding creepy porn videos for nothing.” It had been a struggle- a necessary one- but a struggle nonetheless to find information that Peter specifically would find useful. And he did all this with that image of him and Ned permanently burnt into his brain forever.

“Well, I think that’s my cue to-” Tony cuts Ned off.

“Nope, you’re staying too because I’m not making the mistake of only educating half of you. Now sit down, I have a powerpoint,” he says, fiddling with his laptop.

“You made an entire powerpoint?” May asks, walking in late because she’s been avoiding this too. 

Sucks to be her because Tony is out. “Great, you can do the presentation!” he tells her, standing as May sputters.

“What? Tony no, I don’t know-” he beelines it for the door as May lets out a frustrated noise.

It takes her exactly five minutes to call him back into the room, citing that Peter is his kid, so he should be the one to teach him. And also she has no idea what any of his research means and belatedly Tony remembers he wrote it all in shorthand that, to anyone who doesn’t understand it, is straight up another language. And only Rhodey understands his shorthand.

Fuck.

May and Tony sit in silence for a while. “I think the mistake we made was assuming he was heterosexual,” she says.

Yeah, they sort of assumed he was gay before he came out given his obvious preference for girls but the guy thing kind of changed that. “Yeah. Kind of stupid of us now that I think about it,” he says.

“Yeah, just a little. How’d it go?” she asks.

He sighs, “I made Ned cry of embarrassment twice with what Peter said was way too much detail before telling me his soul turned to dust and now his soul dust is on my hands,” he says. He doesn’t understand what any of that meant but whatever, the kids have their memes and whatnot. Alright, the memes are actually hilarious, but the over exaggerated speech patterns that have the strangest of descriptions? He’s a lot less fluent in that than meme.

“Over attention to detail?” May asks and Tony shrugs.

“I don’t know what they’ve learned with each other so far, I wasn’t going to ask, and I definitely wasn’t going to take chances. So I sort of went a little overboard.” Better to give them too much information than not enough, in his opinion.

May sighs, shrinking into her seat a little. “Oh Tony, how long was that power point?” she asks. It’d been designed to be about a half an hour...

“You know what, four hours is not that bad and they got snack breaks every hour. Scientifically you learn best if you have  a break ever hour,” he says and May lets out another breath.

“You probably went a little overboard,” she tells him. He stands by it though.

“Pro tip, do no do anal after eating spicy food,” he tells Peter, who nearly drops his burrito. Michelle seems to find this hilarious and Tony is happy that he can entertain her a little. Kid can be uptight sometimes, she needs a laugh.

“Why do I feel like this was a mistake you actively engaged in?” she asks and Peter flails.

“Do not answer that, I want this burrito once we’re done here!” he squeaks out. Tony isn’t sure if that’s his voice still cracking or if he’s just really embarrassed.

“Rhodey was surprisingly gracious,” he murmurs. More gracious than he would have been anyways. Michelle throws her head back and laughs as Peter deposits his burrito on the counter, giving it a despondent look.

“The clitoris is a woman’s ‘on’ button,” May says gently, drawing a rainbow with her hands and Tony lets out a loud snort at that.

Peter frowns, “May I know that. I have one,” he reminds her.

She sighs, “well, I’m just making sure because I once worked with a woman who didn’t know what a clitoris was and-”

“May, dad went into excruciating detail on anatomy, I know everything a person could possibly know about the clitoris and probably some stuff gynecologists don’t even know yet,” he tells her. “Please stop this.”

“Another tip,” Tony says and Peter groans, “do not pull anal beads out like a rip cord. Your partner is not a lawnmower, they will not appreciate that.”

“Was Rhodey gracious about that too?” he asks and Tony shakes his head.

“That wasn’t Rhodey it was me, and I was not gracious at all,” he says and Peter starts gagging.

“Why are you telling me these things?” he asks. “Not yanking anal beads out at top speeds is common sense!”

Tony snorts, “well no one told Tiberius Stone that and it was my ass that suffered,” he mumbles. “Literally.”

“If you’re trying to be sexy do not describe the vagina as a ‘love cave’ or a ‘panty hamster’,” May says with a shocking amount of seriousness. Tony can’t keep a straight face and almost doubles over laughing at that. May doesn’t look impressed and Peter looks horrified.

“Oh my god May I know that. Its common sense! Who was sexting you about panty hamsters? Actually no, don’t answer that,” he says, shaking his head in horror.

“I’m just making sure. Also there’s no shame in using toys-” she starts but Peter lets out a strangled noise that’s kind of a scream and kind of what Tony thinks a soul dying sounds like.

Hmm, maybe the kids are on to something with those weird but vivid descriptions of things.

“May I already got a lesson on this oh my god!” he yells, talking fast. “This is the worst time ever I should have become a monk and sworn to celibacy!”

“I knew an ex nun who used a Jesus statue as-” Tony starts but Peter lets out another noise of despair.

“Please stop this!” he tells them both.

“Peter,” Tony says and the kid freezes, looking like a deer in the headlights. “Foreplay is important, you don’t just shove penises into vaginas. Its like going down a water slide with no water. Not fun for anyone, but especially the one with the vagina,” he says, careful not to gender said person with the vagina. Not something he would have considered before, but the stuff he read made some good points in how to talk to trans youth about sex ed.

“For the love of god,” Peter whispers, “stop this. I know how vaginas work. You made sure I knew every single detail about how vaginas work. And penises, and genitalia that doesn’t look as ‘expected’ whatever that means. I am good on knowledge, I probably have too much of it now. Like I need therapy I have so much,” Peter tells him.

“Well its better that you know too much than too little. Nothing throws a person like surprise knife play in the middle of sex- do not drop a kink like that on a person in the middle of sex. Talk about it like a normal person,” he says, shaking his head. Fucking Loki. He should have dated Thor instead, at least he knew what words were.

Peter looks as horrified as he should at that knowledge. “Where did you even find half your sex partners? Don’t answer that. Also talk about knife play like a normal person? What normal person is into knife play?” he asks. Valid question but he’s sure Loki would have an answer to that.

Tony and May sit at the kitchen table with a bunch of papers in front of them and Peter almost runs back out of the penthouse. “I swear to god if this is another sex ed lesson Ned has already banned himself from this house and I will follow if I need to!” he tells them.

They both frown and exchange a look before remembering the papers on the desk. “Oh, this is just a bunch of legal shit. But if you want another sex tip-” Tony starts but Peter cuts him off.

“No I do not! We are done with that, thank you,” he tells them both, exhausted and traumatized but their sweet if way-too-detailed sex ed lessons. He loves them but oh my god were they ever embarrassing about this whole sex thing. It was one time!

The story of homosexuality, acceptance, the huge black hole in your chest and how to get rid of it. (Read on your own risk. This post contains mentions of underage relationships, disfunctional family, religious abuse, homophobia, self harm and other parts of my biography. I don’t need your judgement. Thank you)

I wanted to write this post some time ago when one of my gay friend asked me how to get rid the feeling of emptiness. You know this as a black hole, a guilt issue, a low self esteem twisted with dependency and many other descriptions of this feeling. Somehow it’s very typical for lgbt folks who didn’t get acceptance in their family or had issues with identity; I know that it’s also easy to get this thing if your first romantic relationship didn’t work out well.

My want to write this post only grew when I fell in thorki fandom because the black hole is very obvious issue if you try to analyze mcu Loki (ask Tom Hiddleston, he will tell you everything). 

Somehow our culture of romantic relationships shows the only way to fulfill the black hole. You can look through any book or movie and find out that if you’re alone, hate yourself, depressed and heartbroken, you need to find the Love of Your Life and that person will heal all your wounds. It doesn’t happen in real life. 

I’ve seen a lot of people who tried to get rid of this feeling of guilt and shabbiness by chaotic dating, jumping from bed to bed and leaving only more lost. I had similiar pattern in my life. I wasn’t accepted in my family and got a cold shoulder more often than I could bear. I showed my homosexuality unintentionally since early childhood and my parents and especially my godmother were worried. The terror started around my 10 years. By that age I had no friends, read books and drew sketches 24/7, however my parents were mad at me for any hint of my wrongdoing. I still remember that I was punished for telling my mother’s friend that I don’t date boys at age 10 (it’s hilarious, but it wasn’t that funny back then). My godmother tried to change my sin with religion. She forced me to redraw icons and bible illustrations in addition to physical panishment and regular church visits. 

I found my first love at age 11, she was 3 years older, androgynous, tall and very charismatic. She was my closest friend for 15 years. I clawed at her with death grip, I can only imagine how terribly annoying I was. I sucked all warmth she could gave me. We were not romantically attached so few years later I started dating older girls, I’m still in warm relationships with the most of them . Very soon my black hole grew that big that I fell in trap of abusive relationships. I was very ignorant young woman. Very agressive and dependent to my partners. Some relationships broke me really bad. I had few self harm, alcoholic phases. I tried to go to pro therapy but prices were too high, I never had therapy more than for few months. I was really afraid of people, I had major problems with social life in school and uni, I believed that people would hate me if they knew, if they found out what a rotten creature I am. So I pushed them away, behaved as arrogant bitch. I was friendly only with few of my friends.

I tried to make my Love of my Life a real thing. I had full independency from my parents since 18-19, I had my life separated. I worked and lived on rent apartments. Traveled a lot. I dated girls and tried to build family with them. But the longest relationship I had, lasted only 3 years. I was so heartbroken with the last of my failed attempt that I took all my savings and went to therapy. I’m still on it and I got the answer to the main question of the post. How to get rid of this guilt issue? The black hole?

It never comes with somebody else. Not with your loved ones, not with your family. This black hole is your own and it seeks your own acceptance and your own love. Only you can heal this empty place and not with sex, drugs and rock and roll. You can fill it only with warmth that you produce. Only with care and everyday progress. It’s impossibly hard but even with first steps to this burning rage inside you, you’ll feel more free and loved than any day in your life before. 

It’s exactly what I said to my friend. I’m sad to say that I don’t believe that it’s possible to heal it with only self-help, you need professional help. I also don’t believe in full healing. You will never be a spotless, innocent child. We are all damaged but it’s only good to know that we had that history, that we were stronger. After all.

Spoilers, by the way If you keep scrolling down, it’s your own fault. Like, I’ve told you bro.

·Okay, so I knew Loki was going to die? (Because I’m a person with anxiety and I had to know who was going to die before I went to the theatre because otherwise I was going to have a full on anxiety attack while seeing the movie). Anyways, I knew he was going to die, but like, it crushed my soul? Odison... right in my already dead heart? ·Also, character development: “we have a hulk”. YES HONEY YOU DO. ·He fucking loves his brother, and Thor sobs are still on my mind, thank you so much (I’ll talk about the actors later, because holy god). ·Don’t kill me, but I’ve never shipped Pepperony? Like, she’s not a bad character, I just think their relationship is not healthy. I don’t want to get too much into it, but… yeah, she actually annoyed me in this movie (even tho I love  Gwyneth Paltrow). Also, Tony was so done with the fight before it even started lmao. ·Sometimes Bruce annoys me, but I enjoyed him very much in this movie. ·”You broke up? Like a band? Like the Beatles?” … dude, that killed me.  The whole audience clacked. ·Peter and Tony fight well together and I love my father and son duo and yeah. ·Also, Peter Parker saying he should’ve stayed in the bus: YES BABY BOY YOU SHOULD WE DON’T WANT THE UGLY ASS GRAPE GETTING TO YOU.

Okay, let’s divide now this into the three groups they kind of created, because if not it’s going to be so messy: ·Never shipped Wanda and Vision, but in this movie, man, they made me feel things. ·Never liked Wanda that much either, but in this movie: YES HUN YOU TELL THEM HOW IT’S DONE. She’s a badass. ·Everyone clapped when Cap came into frame. Same for Natasha. ·”Where are we going?” “Home” BITCH I WAS SO EMOTIONAL. ·Also, when he tells Ross the Earth has just lost it’s best protector I lost it. He fucking means Tony, he’s there but Tony’s not, and maybe he was hopeful to hear Tony’s voice when he hears the phone, but it’s not him and- okay, I’ll stop, it’s too much. I hope him receiving the call it’s one of the deleted scenes, I need to see that, as much as it’ll destroy me.  ·I missed some more Cap. Russo brothers said the people who are less in this movie have more screen time in Avengers 4, so I’m counting on it. ·WAKANDA. Everyone cheered when it appeared in the screen, and with Bucky too. ·Okay but Shuri honey I love you. I love how she’s so confident in herself: THAT’S WHAT WE NEED. Queen, just queen. ·Just everything in Wakanda, c’mon. The battle? Dear god it was beautiful to watch. I have too much to say about it, but, just one word: stunning. Also: teamwork. ·I freaking love the Guardians man. They served as the comic relief but also had some emotional moments. They were just perfect. ·Also, Thor and the Guardians. The entire theatre was clacking the whole time lmao. ·Really loved Thor-Groot- Rocket (Rabbit, lmao). Also, Thor in the battle… I’ll save that for later. ·GAMORA FUCKING GOD’S SHAKE. Like, when she’s talking to Peter… I love you, you precious human being. ·You can literally see in her eyes when she realises Thanos loves her, so he’s going to sacrifice her. The pain I felt in that moment oh my god. She deserved way better and I’m always going to be bitter about it. Just… too emotional. My poor baby Gamora. ·Can I say how much I love the relationship between Tony and Peter? Like, they have so much more confidence when talking to each other now? Peter is not that timid young boy around Tony so much ·”If you look at it, it’s your fault” Peter at Tony, saying it’s his fault Spidey is in space. Dude, it was so funny to look at them interact, and the Homecoming Peter would never say this, but… after that scene that phrase is going to haunt Tony… ·Also, Strange questioning their relationship (Peter and Tony’s) was the best thing lmao. ·When Peter is officially an Avenger and he smiles and straightens himself… baby, I love you so much (also Tony you motherf,you knighted Peter oh god hahahhaa)  ·Tony and Peter, Strange and the Guardians. Just… I love them, the group they made and how they worked (their dynamic, too). ·”Is still Footlose the best movie of history?”

·”Well, it never was…” dead, the whole theatre bursted laughing so hard...

·So, let’s start with the battles. Wakanda: it’s so fucking beautiful. Okoye’s determination when M’Baku says they’re going to destroy Wakanda was… ugh, I love her. ·That scene was so well made holy shit. ·Like, seriously, can’t get over it. ·Wanda, Okoye and Nat. I LOVE MY STRONG FEMALE CHARACTERS who don’t need any man to be powerful. Like: YES. ·When Thor arrived, literally the whole theatre started to clap and cheer for him. It was awesome. ·Also, Steve’s “I am Steve Rogers”. YES YOU ARE YOU PRECIOUS BEAN. ·Oh, and Steve to Thor about how he cut his hair and Thor saying how Steve copied his beard is life. I missed them together. ·Also, Bruce saying how the fucking aliens are now screwed was such a mood. ·Battle in Titan: they were slaying. Holy hell. They were fighting so well as a group. ·Really loved the Peters using Strange’s portals to fight. So cool. ·I fell more in love each time Peter P gets into action. Like, never change, please. ·I know it’s all Strange plan. He has seen all of the outcomes, so he probably knew about Peter breaking down, but goddamn it, I was really annoyed in that moment. ·When Tony got stabbed the whole theatre started to yell in agony. Like, everyone was shook. And then he started to pour blood from his mouth and oh my god��� ·Peter Parker saving the Guardians and saying sorry for not remembering their names, oh you precious honey boo.

·I almost lost it with Strange when he gave away the Stone, even when I knew he most likely have a powerful reason.  ·Peter Q’s “did we just lost” got to me man. ·Also, Tony looking at Strange… “why did you do that”. It broke me, man. ·VISION. VISION. I never cared too much about him but I started shaking so bad, I… ·When Thanos snapped the whole theatre went “no!” And then fell completely silent. ·Like, when people started to ash away there was a collective gasp and then a stunned silence. There was gasps every time someone went away, but it was mainly silent- until Peter Parker. ·When Peter said “Mr. Stark, I don’t feel so well” a lot of people started to say: no, not him, not him… we all lost it so bad when he vanished. ·Also, Tony said to Quill not to move because he somehow thought of if they stayed still nothing would happen, but DOESN’T HESITATE TO MOVE WHEN PETER TALKS TO HIM BECAUSE HOLY GOD, NOT HIM, HE HAS TO GET TO PETER. ·The way he hugs him and repeatedly says: you’re fine… dude, I’m… I’m broken, I’m officially broken. ·Also, Peter saying he didn’t want to go and saying he was sorry? Yeah, I need therapy for that. ·When Tony starts to cry… dude. He looks more broken than ever, when Peter goes away. ·I just remember a lot of theories saying how his left arm was always a problem, and that it had burned and yada yada yada… and now that I know why he holds it, I’m… dude, I can’t. I honestly can’t. ·Cap’s final “Oh God” defined how the audience was feeling, pretty much. (ALSO, GROOT :( ) ·Last scene and everyone was saying things like: no, it can’t end right now. When the credits came everyone started to yell, because, holy hell, it can’t end there. ·Also, everyone was expecting the credit scene after the first credits and there was a general “shush”. When nothing happened we all shared a laugh post and mid- tears. ’T was nice. ·The people who new who Fury was calling started cheering so loud- myself included.

So, pros and cons. Let’s start with the cons: ·It felt like… a massive cameo? Like, I know we got 10 years of the MCU, and everyone knows and loves the characters already, but there’s was barely no development for them? It was super well balanced with all of the heroes there was, but you feel like you barely saw the characters. ·I missed Cap. Like, I felt he had too much more to give and sometimes he seemed cold… like, I know he has had it rough, but he… I don’t know, it was weird. ·I also missed some Spidey and even some Tony. Like, I know there’s a lot of characters yada yada yada, but as much as we can know the characters, two years have passed since Homecoming? Like, we barely know what he (they, even) have been doing. His relationship with Tony has obviously evolved even more into the father- teenager and dumbass selfless hero son dynamic, but we barely saw it. ·CGI sometimes lacked, but it was overall impressive. ·When Thanos cried, I whispered: well, fuck you. Because, C’MON. ·Sometimes it felt rushed up. Like, we barely had time to process what happened in a scene and then suddenly we were living another intense moment. We couldn’t get a moment to breath, and it felt like everything happened too fast (also, literally, it happened in a day). Also, THE END. Dear God. ·When it was shown that Thanos was coming back everyone laughed in agony. Sad and funny, I guess it was. ·Also, I’m truly mad Peter Parker and Thor didn’t met. I wanted to see Chris and Tom on screen together again. They both love and respect each other so much irl… *sighs* ·Oh, and Clint and Scott on house arrest? Marvel, fuck you. Pros: ·The whole fucking movie? Like, holy god. ·It was beautifully shot. Like, a visual masterpiece. ·The action. ·The battles, oh god. ·The comical part. It felt great, and the whole audience was laughing and it felt great. The movie balances action, drama and comedy really really well. ·I don’t specially like Strange, but I enjoyed his banter with Tony (just an afterthought). ·The score… my god. ·It was so well planned, it was so well carried, it just… it was really good. ·Also, don’t know if it’s a “pro” but my bff came to see it with me as a favor, because he doesn’t like Marvel that much, and he finished the movie totally into it. So, yay. ·Finally: THE ACTING. Dear God, it was splendid. I want to mention Chris H, because oh lord… and Tom Hiddleston. He was barely in the movie, but baby… so proud. Chris P when he asks for Gamora broke me. Elizabeth Olsen also was splendid. When Tony cries after Peter is turn into ashes, damn RDJ… you make me feel things. And finally: Tom fucking Holland, you little shit. I’m going to need therapy thanks to you. Like, wow. This man never stops surprising me with his acting. He’s superb, he needs an Oscar right about the fuck now. The way his eyes start to water once he realises he’s going away too, and how he clings to life and his broken expression… nobody can deny Tom totally killed it. I’m so so proud of him. Everyone was fantastic, but those 6 are my top. SO… 9,5/10 for this movie. It has a few flaws and somethings I really wanted to see (it pains me to think no one of the rogues is going to see soft and Dad Tony with Peter, not for the moment) and, c’mon, we all know T’Challa and Peter, for example, are for sure coming back… like, who are they trying to fool? To be honest, is not a “Will they come back”, it’s more of a “how will they come back”. I get why they didn’t want to call it part 1 and 2, because Avengers 4 is not going to be the same story as IW, but it’s a two part-story, don’t go bullshitting me. I’m honestly scared for A4, but so excited for Captain Marvel. Also, please A4: STONY. I NEED STONY. I’m going to see it again as soon as I can. It is amazing, guys, I swear. As much as you can read about it, you have to see it. It’s so amazing and it does lead up to expectations. If you want to talk about something with me about it, feel free to do it.

Avengers Endgame Seeks Record for an $18 Billion Film Franchise

(Bloomberg) — The wait to find out what happens on the other side of The Snap is over. By the time you read this, the rollout of Walt Disney Co.’s Avengers: Endgame will have already begun unspooling to fans across the world, the epic finale featuring gargantuan battles as well as a resurrection, of sorts, at the end of Marvel’s superheroes-and-foes saga.

The film, which opens April 26 on a record 4,600 screens nationwide, is the culmination of a 21-movie buildup of standalone installments, sequels, spinoffs, and superhero mashups that began with the release of Iron Man in 2008. In that time the franchise has generated $18.6 billion worldwide in ticket sales, a springboard for handsomely profitable television shows and merchandise.

Most of that has accrued to Disney, which bought Marvel in 2009 and under its auspice built up a wave of hits the likes of which Hollywood has never seen. Three of the top-10 worldwide grosses of all time belong to Avengers movies, and a fourth, Black Panther, is already one of the most successful standalone franchises ever. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, the brain behind the movies, has become the industry’s biggest producer, overtaking Steven Spielberg in box-office ticket sales.

A Long Look Back

At first, Endgame takes us back to the beginning. All the way back to the original superhero sextet from 2012’s Marvel’s The Avengers—Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Captain America (Chris Evans), Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner).

As the first Marvel release under Disney’s own distribution banner, that film was the sixth-biggest-grossing movie worldwide, at $1.5 billion. Those six, having set the template for generating billions at the theaters, now must find a way to bring life back to half of the universe.

Since the first film, the core group has introduced groups such as S.H.I.E.L.D and HYDRA, the Guardians of the Galaxy, the forces of Wakanda, and, in this installment, Captain Marvel, the company’s future-facing female hero. If you are a comic book fan, you know all these things already.

But if, like me, you didn’t grow up reading the comics, there is a lot to remember, even if you’ve seen all the movies. The important thing to remember is that these are the good guys (and girls) who have to stop the evil ones, Loki and the mighty Thanos, a genocidal warlord from another world who wants to conquer the universe. The last time we saw Thanos, in Infinity War, he’d completed his hunt to unite the six Infinity Stones, which he used, with a snap of his fingers, to wipe out half the living beings in the universe.

Arriving at The End

To get here, Disney’s Marvel has made a couple of bets that have paid off handsomely. One was teaming up with Sony Pictures on Spider-Man: Homecoming to help revive everyone’s favorite web-slinging franchise, so that the Sony-owned Spidey could join the Marvel Universe storylines. And another, of course, was that a black superhero with a largely black cast would have such broad appeal. When Black Panther made his kingly entrance in 2018, he did it to the tune of $700 million from the U.S. and Canada, the third-biggest domestic movie in history.

When we find the Avengers this time, they’re recovering from the devastation of the Thanos Snap. Some are in therapy groups; others, like Thor, have really let themselves go. But there’s still hope embodied at the heart of the movie through Tony Stark. He can’t help but try to find a solution to save the day.

You could argue that this is all Stark’s doing. The first phase of Marvel’s master plan started with Iron Man, arguably the most popular of the Avengers. His character, a wealthy industrialist who builds a special armored suit and technology to fight evil, has been a constant in this long series of films and their complex storylines. In the meantime, it’s given Robert Downey Jr. a lucrative career. According to estimates, his earnings are among the highest in Hollywood.

But Iron Man isn’t the future of the Marvel universe.

Captain Marvel has recently been introduced to us in her own standalone film, which has beat that $1 billion threshold globally as well. And Feige has said in interviews that she will lead the Avengers into the next phase, which he’s mapped out five years ahead.

Technically, the story’s arc will conclude with the release of Spider-Man: Far From Home on July 2. But Endgame is the battle to end all battles. Infinity War set records for opening weekends domestic ($257 million) and worldwide ($640.5 million), but Endgame could exceed $270 million in its first weekend, according to Box Office Pro. Based on the screening I attended, I’d wager fans are unlikely to be disappointed: There were grown men and women weeping in the seats alongside me.

Here’s a spoiler I don’t mind spilling: The one thing Marvel fans won’t need to wait for after the three-hour run time is a post-credits scene—there aren’t any. It’s perhaps the only thing that superfans could complain about. But for me, it put a firm close on this chapter of the story.
