Concerning Snippets from PJO Chalice of the Gods
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Annabeth didn't give Percy any warning. Didn't talk to him. Didn't tell him what she was thinking and just pushed him off the edge, not even knowing if this water was breathable to Percy, AND since he wasn't even prepared he could have easy lost his hold on this important staff.
Tumblr media
Now he's fighting this unknown god, Elisson, who guess what wants to cause Percy pain.
Tumblr media
Yeah, Annabeth, what did you think was going to happen? Oh, wise one *sarcastic*. At least Percy thinks of more than himself and wants to keep his partner safe.
Tumblr media
Here Percy's been through the ringer, forced into this situation BY ANNABETH, and Annabeth, who is safe up on the cliff, is just tapping her wrist like it's a watch because she's impatient for her boyfriend to hurry up. Like girl, this god could kill Percy and has already hurt him, and this is how you react.
Look, I don't care if anyone likes Annabeth or not, but this kind of behavior, not to mention so many more things, is just so concerning to me. Percabeth is not a healthy relationship, and it never has been.
It's just so concerning that this is what been taught to as early as elementary school kids about what is a "healthy" relationship. Not to mention how many times Annabeth has elbowed Percy, kicked his shins, and calls him stupid. Let's not forget the judoflip in HOO either, where Annabeth puts her knee on Percy's chest and presses her forearm against his throat and tells him not to leave her, LIKE HE CHOSE TO BE KIDNAPPED. Instead of ya know, hugging him and telling him she loves him.

'Percy Jackson is just a normal guy in a strange world':Incorrect
'Percy Jackson is a role model for young boys and a female fantasy':Closer but not quite correct
'Percy Jackson is not a gendered character in a meta sense because Percy being a boy has nothing to do with their personality and stories EXCEPT proving themselves as different from other 'male' characters and this is a big reason why they're so easy to read as transfem among the countless ones and so appealing to black women, autistic women and obviously irl trans women and widely beloved by lesbians and aroaces and by making Percy normal, you are fundamentally ruining their character because they were meant to be completely nonconformist just naturally and their rebellious attitude is a result of growing up as a minority in-text by being neurodivergent and poor and fighting against for themself and others like them and this is another fascet of their appeal and why the first take is the most popular one because it comes from hatred of and discomfort towards irl Percys(read:autistic people and feminine trans people)fueled by bigotry so that's the discourse around book!Percy being afrolatino interpretation, the mass harrasment towards Perachel shippers and Rachel fans and both towards Leah for playing Annabeth by white/allistic Pjo fans and the ass kissing towards Luke as the palpable victim of society unlike Percy:CORRECT!!!!!

remember the scene where Percy almost let’s himself die during the whole polyblotes fight under water cause he feels guilty about akhyls and opens up to Jason and Jason’s just like yeah i get it :( So what if Percy genuinely thought this was an issue and that Jason needed help? So he hunts down Piper first and is like
Percy: You need to look out for you bf
Piper: Wait why what happened?
Percy (trying to respect Jason’s privacy): He said some pretty concerning things
Then it slowly becomes a whole thing until they all decide to stage an intervention so when Jason wakes up late and sees all their solemn looks (and the fact that he’s not the earliest to be awake for once) he’s just like
Jason: Who died
No one speaks and Jason gets more frantic until-
Percy: We’re here to help you
Jason:???
Piper: We all love you and want you to be here
Jason: wtf is going on
And then everyone turns to Percy in confusion who’s trying to avoid talking about his whole breakdown in the first place so he’s like um.. well…
That’s how Percy finds out Jason is a drama queen who exaggerates

Someone mentioned that Percabeth fans are usually Annabeth fans, while anti-Percabeth ppl are usually Percy fans and while for what I've seen this isn't entirely true (anti-Percabeth fans are more in touch with the source material and think more critically) there is an element of truth to it.
A lot of Percy stans see how Annabeth treats Percy
Calling him seaweed brain continously, even when theyre adults in college which means stupid (confirmed by Rick Riordan himself)
Hitting/punching/judo-flipping Percy as punishment, not in play or sparring or joke which might excuse it
Talking down to Percy like he's dumb and stupid instead of dyslexic (because Percy is not stupid, contrary to popular opinion, and that is supported by canon)
Controlling Percy's friend network and lowkey isolating him
Playing mind games to keep Percy on his toes, constantly trying to be on his "best boyfriend behavior"
And they're just... really uncomfortable with it. Like yeah sure, Percabeth has a few sweet scenes... but that doesn't take away from any of this. An abusive relationship is still abusive if the couple have a few good moments together. That's part of the strategy the abuser uses to keep the victim in the dark about what they're doing, and to keep them in that relationship.
Percy is still getting hurt, and worse, believing that he deserves to be treated that way and believing that he's lucky he has Annabeth. This may not alarm Annabeth fans because they're not looking at Percy, but it does alarm Percy stans because they are paying attention to Percy, more so than Annabeth.
It takes a critical mind to recognize it and even more so to realize that women can be abusive too. Men are not always the abusers in relationships. Abusive relationships are more about control than they are about how many bruises the abuser is leaving on the victim.

Can we just talked about how fucked up it was that Percy had to be the one to tell Nico about Bianca. Like we must remember yes Nico was a kid but Percy was too. Mans was literally THIRTEEN. Just Percy having Nico yelling and being upset at him then finding out he was a child of Hades and having to keep that in for Nico's safety while Nico was resenting him. And look Percy didn't even promise, we can see at the start Percy is already not sure if he can make sure Biance will make it. So he doesn't actually promise. Also like in like battle of the labyrinth Percy having to see Nico go from a happy kid obsessed with a game for CHILDREN to see him become this depressed person who just wants his sister back and doesn't even care about mythomagic is heart wrenching. Point is: Percy and Nico make me want to vomit out my insides but I love them and dear God someone just give them both a hug (Me to them: 🫂)

Does anyone else hate the nickname seaweed brain?
I think it would be fine if Annabeth also complimented him, but all we, as the reader see, is her making fun of him. I can't think of a single instance where she complimented him. And since the name came from a place of bullying, she should have stopped using it as soon as they became friends. Percy in canon has only called Annabeth wise girl like 4 times he pretty much dropped the name as soon as they became friends.
In canon, he did it cause he thought the nickname Annabeth gave him was clever, but I think that's wrong given what we know of his childhood. It came of him being mean, so he stopped.
It's fine to tease your partner. I tease mine all the time, but I also make sure he knows it's just that, teasing, I also compliment him the same amount because I know his insecurities.
Percy made an attempt to take on his life and Annabeth still makes fun of him.

My Head Canons on the Pjo Character's Middle Names (bc every one of these is so fun to read) [Part 1]
Percy: HEAR ME OUT. I feel like Sally was kind of obliged by her love for Poseidon to name Percy a Greek name. But I feel like otherwise, she would have named him after a famous name in literature, since she loves lit so much. So I feel like his middle name would def be something related to literature. A character, an author, anything. Here are some random examples of names I have so far: Perseus Woolf Jackson, Percy Conan Jackson (bc of Arthur conan doyle AND conan gray cuz she's a livie)
Annabeth: I'm sorry. I can't get Annabeth Rose Chase out of my head. Rose is such a pretty yet such a strong name. It stands for strong feminity, cuz a rose has thorns too!
Hazel: The first thing that came to mind was Hazel Lorelai Levesque. Partly because I liked the name after listening to somebody talk about a show I didn't know about called gilmore girls. BUT it's very her imo. It sounds right
Grover: This was easy in terms of themes. After narrowing it down, I present to you; Grover Rowan Underwood
Leo: Leonidas Valentino Valdez has a nice flow to it ngl, but if someone has better names, please tell me because im not 100% on this

Not gonna lie, Annabeth's worst crime is how she treated Tyson. Even after she watches Tyson save Percy life multiple times (while Annabeth herself stood by invisibly and did nothing until the last minute), she still dehumanizes him, calls him gross, a monster, a mistake... I could go on. All the quotes are below, from SoM.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And then by the end of the book, she never apologizes to Tyson. She never apologizes for all the insults and the dehumanization and how she made him feel. Even though she said all of this in Tyson's vicinity. Even though Tyson himself picked up on how nasty Annabeth was to him, to the point where he was miserable and borderline crying. Must I remind you that Tyson is 7-8 years old? He's a literal child, years younger than Annabeth. And she's viciously bullying him, even after Percy tells her to stop multiple times.
She only acknowledges that Tyson saved their lives - that he's useful. In her eyes, Tyson is redeemed only because he was ready to sacrifice his life to save hers and Percy's - and almost died in the process. At 8 years old. Not because he's a child worthy of respect, care and kindness (regardless of what species he is). But because he made it possible for her to succeed in the quest Hermes sent them on. Because he made it possible for her to succeed at her ambitions, saved her life and saved her home (camp half blood).
I cannot express how much I hate her for this. Forget how shitty she is to Percy throughout the books, and Rachel in botl. This is by far the worse, hands down. I cannot believe that there are fans that stan her and disregard this saying "oH sHe'S jUsT 13 yEaRs oLd WiTh TrAuMa! sHe DoEsN't KnOw BeTtEr!"
Like no. She should've apologized for her actions. To Tyson's face - because it was Tyson she hurt (not Percy). If she did that on screen; then she would be fine. It would've made for an awesome character growth moment. But she never does. The only change in her mentality was Tyson is not a monster because he's useful and willing to die to protect Percy (and her by extension).

OKAY ILL SAY IT, i dont get why characters in the series are often mad at nico.
nico brings percy to hades in what he thinks is just a talk, because hades promised he'd answer some questions about his past
he didnt know hades would try to imprison percy, hades tricked him about that. he just wanted to know about his mom. hades didnt even really keep up his end of the deal. in the end, nico broke percy out because he knew it wasnt right
nico "didn't tell anyone where percy was."
first of all, understand the timeline of everything. jason was brought to camp half-blood in december, and by the end of it, realizes percy was in camp jupiter. percy, however, was brought to camp jupiter in june. at this point, everyone knew he'd be at this camp and were about to go get him. nico confirming percy's location would only bring him into question because technically the two camps were supposed to stay separate (more on this later). besides, he knows he needs to go check out the doors of death, he doesn't have time to tell everyone what they already know
nico knew about the other camp and didnt tell anyone
well yeah, his dad literally told him not to tell anyone. he knows about the history of fighting, so him being viewed as an outsider and an invader would be counterproductive. he needed to have camp jupiter's trust for hazel's sake. also, if anything, him being able to keep the camps a secret just shows he's not the type to leak secrets. cause we all know how much he values his secrets.

will never understand why people think annabeth throwing percy was ok.
annabeth who is supposed to be smart, victim blames percy, her boyfriend! knowing he was kidnapped, got his memory wiped, and was put in a coma for 6 or 9 months, all hera's doing. (all of which she knew!) on top of that, instead of trying to make peaceful negotiation with the romans, who were being openly hostile at the time, decides to flip one of their leaders on his back in front of all of them, and then put her forearm on his throat. if percy hadn't laughed and defused the situation, the romans would have taken that as an act of war.
I don't care how many times you say that percy and annabeth have spared and she knew how to do it without hurting him, no. that type of behavior is not ok.
