Hurting my own feelings by realising wanting to share my writing online means having to actually interact with people online. As an OG tumblr lurker this has been a jarring realisation; send thoughts and prayers.

I have a question. Where are our non-aesthetics?

I follow the aromantic, asexual, and aroace tags, they all have people talking about them. I checked on aplatonic, and even though it's less than aroace, they still have a community it seems.

But I checked all of the related tags, non-aesthetic, A-aesthetic, even anaesthetic, and there was nothing about us!

Where are we? Who are we? Surely if it's alright to not experience sexual attraction, and romantic attraction, and platonic attraction, surely it's alright to not experience aesthetic attraction.

I wanna know where y'all are at, I'm lonely :(

An-aesthetic problems: when I'm complimenting people it's super easy to slip into language that... doesn't actually express what I want to say?

I experience basically no aesthetic attraction and don't always even experience much aesthetic appreciation (makes art interesting xD). But occasionally I want to compliment someone or something based off of other things -- maybe I like the impression a visual gives my brain, maybe I like the feel of someone's outfit, maybe I just want to help a friend feel good because I appreciate them and that makes my brain happy to see them.

And it's really easy to say things I don't mean. Like "Oh, that's pretty!" or "you look cute" or similar.

Because I don't have a frame of reference to what those things mean. I can't tell if someone is pretty or cute or similar. But that's the language I'm used to hearing, so that's the language I'm used to using.

I'm working on saying what I really mean with comments (that's a nice color! I like that character 👀. Your makeup matches color-wise very well!) so that I'm being honest. But it's hard a lot of the time, especially when I'm filling the social expectation to compliment someone rather than authentically representing my (usually nonexistant) thoughts on appearance things.

Anyways. :/ Weird problems ig, but my weird problems.

Man, I just do not understand attraction at all. Like, people can look at others, even those they don't know, and just, like how they look? Or want to, like, do things with them? Seems crazy to me, but I'm not one to stop people for existing.

I see a lot of of people use the talking point of how making abortion illegal doesn’t prevent abortions, it just leads to unsafe ones and like. I don’t think enough people grasp that a lot of those for the overturning of roe v. wade literally do not care about the safety of people getting an abortion. This is not a talking point that will resonate with them. A lot of these people think that anyone who seeks an abortion deserves to suffer - i.e., if you can’t completely stop abortions, then maim and punish those who seek them out anyway. Because at the end of the day pro-lifers don’t give a shit about actual human lives. This is the culmination of a decades long effort to codify an authoritarian, far right, evangelical dogma seeking to control the bodies of afab people into law, and that push won’t stop until conservatives see a country where the comfort, safety, and right to exist of those who don’t fit into their narrow world view has been stripped away. It was never about being ‘pro-life.’ It has always been about hegemony.
