Milf!WandaNat x Female Reader

Warnings: Smut! 18+ please! Kissing, cursing, oral (R, W, N receiving), strap on sex, dominant Natasha
Note: I could not stop thinking about these two. Enjoy!

You’re anxiously waiting in your classroom for the mother of two students to arrive for a conference. You hated to call her, knowing that she is very busy, but her sons have been falling behind in class. And you never want that to be prolonged by your own nerves.
So, you wait for Wanda Maximoff to arrive for your scheduled after-school meeting. The door opens with five minutes to spare. In walks in a woman with an air of confidence you haven’t quite seen before. Her blonde hair rests over the lapels of a red suit. She looks like a million bucks in every sense of the phrase.
“Hello, I’m Ms. Y/l/n, you must be Ms. Maximoff,” you greet her.
“That’s me,” she says. “Please call me Wanda.”
“Nice to meet you, Wanda,” you say. “Thank you for taking time out of your day to meet with me.”
You gesture for her to sit in the chair across from your desk. She does so and looks back to you with waiting eyes.
“I am concerned about Billy and Tommy falling behind in class,” you explain. “They’ve taken a dive the last few weeks in grades and participation.”
“Well, Billy has always been shy,” Wanda supplies. “And Tommy just can’t sit still.”
“Yes, that’s true. But they’ve been my best students all year until recently. I just wanted to be in touch with you to maybe find the cause and take steps to correct this misdirection,” you say.
You hate this part of your job. Every parent thinks their child hangs the moon. They don’t want to hear they’re struggling. You prepare yourself to face rejection, but Wanda just thinks for a moment.
“How can I get them back on track?” She asks.
“I can tutor them before and/or after school,” you say. “If their in-class participation improves that will also help with their grades.”
“Okay,” Wanda says. Her green eyes look you over. “I have a hard time getting them to school early because they ride a bus. And getting here right after school is very difficult.”
“Right,” you say. “I understand.”
“Maybe you could tutor them at my house?” Wanda asks.
“Oh, I’m not sure if that’s really allowed,” you say.
“Please?” Wanda asks. You don’t think you have the strength to say no to her soft expression. She is almost pouting. You feel an attraction to her in your gut. She leans forward. “I will pay you anything.”
“Oh, I definitely can’t take payment, Wanda,” you say. She pouts completely now. “But I can tutor them at your house.”
“Thank you!” Wanda practically cheers. “I appreciate it. Really.”
“Of course, Wanda. I can start as soon as possible.”
With that, Wanda leaves your classroom with the exchange of phone numbers and the shake of your hand. It’s probably a bad idea, but you keep the success of your students in mind as you push away any worries about the tutoring.
The next day you drive to Wanda’s house after school. The boys let you in on instruction from their mother to only let you inside and not strangers. You set up at the table and teach the boys some math. To your surprise, they don’t put up much of a fight about the work.
When you’re almost done for the day, the door of the house opens. The boys run to the door to hug the mysterious woman who enters. She wears a leather jacket and black pants. God, she is attractive. Her red hair is tied back in a braid.
“Oh, hello,” she says once she sees you. “You must be the teacher Wanda was telling me about. I’m Natasha.”
“Hi, yes, I’m y/n,” you say as you shake her hand. Her green eyes sparkle like Wandas.
“Nice to meet you,” Natasha says. You think you see her look you over briefly before the kids grab her attention again.
“We’re done for the day, so I’ll head out,” you say, gathering your things.
“Okay. Thanks for helping them. I hope to see you again soon, y/n,” Natasha says.
She disappears into the kitchen, and you wonder about the nature of her relationship with Wanda.
The next few weeks of tutoring go smoothly. You see Natasha a couple of times. She doesn’t say much but she always thanks you for your time.
Today, when you knock on the door and wait for an answer there is a long delay. The boys usually open the door immediately. Five minutes go by, and you decide to knock a couple of more times.
Finally, Wanda comes to the door. She is never here when it’s time for tutoring. And especially not in a robe with messy hair.
“Oh shit,” Wanda remarks at the sight of you. “I forgot to cancel today. The boys are visiting family.”
“That’s alright,” you say. “I’ll just be on my way.”
At the time you go to turn around, Natasha emerges from the other room. She has only a t-shirt and underwear on. You try to look away.
“Who is it, detka?” Nat asks.
“Ms. Y/l/n,” Wanda says. She doesn’t look away from you. “I forgot to cancel tutoring.”
“Oh,” Natasha says. “Don’t be rude, Wanda.” She walks to the door and looks at you. “Come on in, y/n.”
You don’t even argue with that despite the very little clothes either of them are wearing. You enter and Nat pours you a drink.
“I’m sorry for interrupting,” you say when she hands it to you.
“No worries,” Nat supplies. “Just an afternoon meeting. Right Wands?”
“Right,” Wanda agrees. She seems a little uneasy, but when Nat places a hand on her thigh, you see her nerves calm. “A meeting.”
It’s quiet for a few moments. You try hard not to notice how far up Natasha’s hand has moved or the way Wanda’s thighs look so delicious. Natasha’s too. Nat catches you looking.
“You know we could use help with our meeting,” Natasha says.
“Nat,” Wanda warns.
“Look, sweetheart, she is looking at us,” Natasha says. “I think she wants to join.”
Wanda looks directly into your eyes. Her gaze is hypnotizing. Natasha’s hand dips completely between her thighs. Wanda moans quietly.
“Do you want to join?” Wanda asks. It’s the first time you’ve noticed she has a bit of an accent.
“I- um- yes?” You phrase it like a question.
“I need you to be sure,” Wanda says.
She reaches her hand out towards you. You get the memo. You cross the room and Wanda takes your hand. She pulls you onto her lap. Nat’s hand remains between her thighs and as a result brushes against you too.
Wanda brushes your hair off of your face. She keeps her hand on your face. The long digits hold your face tight. She leans in and kisses your lips softly. The feeling makes your head dizzy.
“So good,” Wanda whispers when she pulls away. “Natasha, you need to taste her.”
Natasha pulls you by the back of your neck over to meet her lips. She moans into the kiss as she deepens it. Her tongue invades your mouth. The kiss is rough, but you want so much more. Your hips stutter over Wanda’s lap.
“Hm, needy girl,” Natasha says once she pulls away. She lifts your shirt over your head and Wanda immediately starts sucking at your breasts.
You kiss Nat as Wanda stimulates your nipples. She leaves no inch of your chest untouched. She unbuttons your pants and you stand up to let her pull them down your legs. Wanda instructs you to stay standing. Nat stands up behind you and kneels while Wanda kneels in front of you.
“Your pussy is so wet,” Wanda says. “Hm, I just want to taste it.”
“Taste it, Wanda. Make her feel good,” Natasha says. “And I’ll do the same.”
The two women dive into you. Natasha’s hands help spread you as Wanda eats you out. Natasha joins her and you feel both of their mouths hard at work. You would fall over if it wasn’t for Natasha’s strong arms holding you up.
“Fuck, I’m gonna come,” you mumble way too quickly. But they don’t care. They keep up their ministrations until you’re shaking with pleasure.
“So fucking good,” Natasha says.
“Mhm,” Wanda agrees.
The two women pull away from you and share a filthy kiss. In the process, Wanda sits back on the couch and takes her robe off. Her entire body is exposed to you. You’re sure your mouth is watering.
Natasha pushes you gently to kneel between Wanda’s legs. You waste no time kissing her soft thighs. Exactly as delicious as you thought she would be.
“Such a good girl,” Natasha says. She takes her own underwear off and reveals she’s wearing a strap. You’re not sure how you hadn’t seen it before.
Nat gets it wet before she gets on her knees. She angles the fake cock perfectly to enter you from behind. You’re already wet, so it goes in easy. Nat moves her hips at an excruciating pace as Wanda pushes on your head to keep you between her legs.
You lick stripes over her folds and take her clit in your mouth. Wanda watches as Natasha pounds into you.
“Fuck that’s so hot,” she says.
“She takes me so well, Wanda,” Natasha says.
The words drive you crazy. You pick up your pace on Wanda and she comes in no time. You clean her up as Natasha brings you to another orgasm.
You and Wanda turn your focus to Natasha. You take the cock in your mouth and Wanda’s juices coat it. Natasha groans at the feeling. Wanda maneuvers herself to lick Natasha’s pussy that’s not covered by the strap.
The two of you get Natasha off quickly. And you all rest on the couch. Natasha and Wanda hold you between them as your limbs tangle together.
“I’m really glad I forgot to cancel tutoring today,” Wanda says.
“Me too,” Natasha adds.
“Me three,” you say and share a laugh with the women.
You hope Wanda invites you over more often now. Especially if Natasha is going to be there.

now i wish we’d never met ‘cause you’re too hard to forget while i’m cleaning up your mess i know he’s taking off your dress and i know that you don’t but if i ask you if you love me i hope you lie to me
Bucky Barnes was a great many things, a paradox in a single man, many opposite things to different people. For some he was an angel, charity driven and ready to sacrifice himself for everything and everyone. For others, he was a demon, someone who was power driven, filled with the need for success and stepping on anyone he needed to be the first and the best. No matter what both thought, all agreed on one thing - Bucky Barnes was one hell of a charmer. He’d gotten that from his mother - old high class British charm, his father used to say. That combined with his looks made him irresistible to most people. Everyone flocked to him, everyone except for Y/N. She’d vanished from his side a bit later into the night and he hadn’t seen her since. Each time he thought to look for her, someone would need him or catch his attention.
Even with all that, he couldn’t find her. Y/N was an eye catching woman, she was beautiful and if she were anywhere near he would’ve found her. Instead, she was nowhere to be found and he was starting to get annoyed. He wanted to spend the evening with her, or at least he had intended to spend the evening with her, introducing her to the right people who could help her. He continued listening to whoever was talking to him right now - truth was, he wasn’t even sure who that person was. He just usually smiled and kept up simple talks, that was what was required of him so he would gladly keep doing it as long as it yielded results.
As for Y/N, she had almost forgotten who she was here with. Christopher Davis was someone who she always could picture herself with. He was smart, well spoken, well mannered and seemed to have an interest on her. Besides, he had gone through the same thing as her back at Columbia.
      - I’m just saying Professor Williams is a pain. - Chris laughed as Y/N explained what her supervisor had said. - If Professor Anderson likes you then you must be a bright student.
      - Or maybe I’m just really daft.
      - I don’t think so. - he smiled. - Sergeant Barnes doesn’t employ someone who doesn’t have promise.
      - Except I don’t work for him ... I mean, not like you work for him, I’m just an au pair. I reckon the only criteria was are you a threat and are you good with children.
      - How is it working with Sergeant Barnes if you don’t mind me asking?
Chris looked at her and then back at James whom he didn’t notice had been staring them down until now. He sighed, putting on his best smile, after all, he was trying to impress this girl.
     - He’s uptight and a bit controlling but I guess you have to be if you want things to run smoothly. Specially when you work in advertising.
     - That’s most CEOs isn’t it?
     - Yes but James Barnes is .. different. Sorry, I don’t mean to sound like a disgruntled employee.
     - That is fine. Sergeant Barnes has got me on my nerves every once and again?
     - Is that so? - Y/N felt the blood drain from her face as she turned around to face her boss. She wasn’t afraid of him per say, but she also knew, she just knew he would probably be pissy for the rest of the evening. - Good evening Y/N, Mr. Davis.
     - I will see you tomorrow, Y/N. - Chris smiled at the au pair.
To say Y/N was over the moon was a massive understatement. He liked her, at least she thought he liked her enough to invite her out. She didn’t think she still had it within her, she was usually busy looking over Sadie or with her postgraduate studies - that didn’t give her enough time to think about her sex and love life. That being said, maybe that explained why she was having the weird dreams and fantasies about James; familiarity. Right? It had to be that.
Bucky on the other hand felt like he’d been punched in the stomach. Chris was ... well, he didn’t know that much about Chris other than he came from money yet he couldn’t even blame him from that since he had come from money as well. He was just boring, Bucky found him boring. He didn’t take risks, at least not enough risks for someone who worked at advertising. He played it safe. It worked, but it wasn’t revolutionary. Still, Bucky didn’t like him. He definitely didn’t like him for Y/N either. Y/N was smart, innovative, caring and another bunch of positive adjectives which were too long to list. Chris was just boring.
     - So how’s that lady? - Y/N broke the silence between the two of them, a bit tipsy on the champagne which she wasn’t used to drinking.
     - What lady?
     - Delilah? - she looked up through her dizzy, tipsy mind, before snapping her fingers. - Delia. Yeah, that’s her name. How is Delia?
     - You would know if you weren’t busy flirting with my employees.
     - Oh so you can flirt but I can’t?
     - Not when you’re with me. You’re embarrassing yourself and humiliating me.
     - But I’m not here with you, am I, sergeant? I am not your date, am I?
     - No. - he smiled forcefully. - However if I were going to flirt with someone I would pick someone less boring.
     - You work in advertising, Sergeant. Everyone is boring.
(...)
Bucky had never spent a whole night alone with Sadie, not when she was awake. Yet, here he was, left behind by his au pair so she could go and date boring Chris while he had to deal with a very hyper Sadie who was running around as if it wasn’t 8 o’clock yet. He usually had a babysitter or he had Y/N, or Steve yet right now he was by his lonesome. He thought she would’ve settled down if he played princesses, yet, she did not. Instead Bucky now had knotted hair, glitter on his face and probably some on his eye and permanent marker on his neck. He had finally given up and done the worse thing in the eyes of every parenting book - he’d given her a tablet loaded with all the Bluey seasons. Meanwhile he’d taken to watching re-runs of Mad Men.
     - Bed? - he asked the curly haired ginger who looked up at him, her hair in front of her face. - I’ll give you 10 dollars?
     - No. - she replied before looking back at her tablet. Bucky sighed, looking up at the ceiling. Soon the terrible twos would be done and he’d have the terrifying threes.
    - 20 dollars? - he said once again but she ignored him. He sighed, how come Y/N managed to do this? - Sadie, you can either go to bed or you can be tired tomorrow and not go to the park with Y/N. Choose.
She looked at him with the death stare which she had inherited from him, but eventually got up, grabbing his hand. Bucky smiled, picking her up and walking to her bedroom. He pushed the sheets from her bed, carefully rolling her to her mattress before tucking her in, handing her a Bingo plushie.
    - You want a story, babe? - he asked her, brushing her curls away from her forehead. - No?
    - Light?
    - I’ll turn your little moonlight on. - he kissed her forehead. - I love you, Sisi bug.
She smiled at him and it was enough for him to know she meant she loved him too. He tucked her once more before turning off the main light, leaving the room softly lit by the nightlight. Slowly and softly he went up the stairs, grabbing a wick basket and started collecting toys onto it. She had too many toys, still he wouldn’t stop buying them. As he finished it, Bucky sat back down on the couch. He was annoyed. Why did she even go out with that prick? The only thing they had in common was an alma matter and god knows Chris was a legacy student so it wasn’t like he tried as hard to get into university like Y/N had. God, he hated him. Hated how bland and boring he was.
He toyed around with the remote, trying to find something that would get his head out of the idea of goddamn Christopher Davis trying to get her out of the practically translucent dress she had been wearing. Bucky could swear she did it on purpose, just to show off to him in those strap heels and short sheer black dress like a temptress. He changed channels once more, hoping he’d find something ... maybe a pay per view porn channel or something. Yet nothing took his mind of his au pair, his employee who he should have some professionalism with, and that stupid lacy bra he could make out under that dress. Dressing up like that for goddamn Davis.
He stared at his phone, watching as hours passed yet nothing fulfilled. Eventually, Bucky made a mistake, a huge, massive mistake. A mistake which fulfilled itself as he opened the door to show Delia. He handled things badly but right now he needed his fill.
His lips attacked hers as they stumbled towards the bedroom, Bucky locking the door behind him. This was a bad habit, a terrible habit but her lips felt good, her taste was tempting and Bucky wasn’t the one to have good habits. However, today, things were ... different. Her lips leaving lipstick marks on his neck didn’t feel the same. Maybe this was a mistake. He shouldn’t really have a woman in the house when his daughter was asleep upstairs.
   - Are you alright? - Delia pulled away from him.
Bucky blinked, he had to be going ... stir crazy. Maybe he’d drank a bit too much whiskey but her features morphed and he could swear that in place of the woman he usually called whenever he needed release, stood the woman he wanted to be here now. The sheer dress a vivid memory in the back of his mind. He ignored her question, moving to kiss her neck and putting his hand over her mouth. His fantasies took full front stage as his mind drew a different reality.
All he could see was her, red lips open wide with soft, high pitched moaned as he kissed down her body, doing away with her dress and her underwear. He wanted to mark her, he wanted to mark this vision of a woman he craved. His hands found the top of his joggers, pushing it down as if he were a horny mess. His cock was painfully hard, slapping against his stomach as he stood over her, this vision of Y/N. All he could think of were all the times she saw her, the outline of her breasts, her collarbones. He didn't pace himself, instead lining up with the woman's entrance before he gripped her hips and slide himself in, without much a second of though. The feeling made him grown, he was insane he reckoned, insane because he knew this wasn't her but all he could see is her. The soft moans, the contracted muscles. He fucked her hard and rough until he felt his release approach. Once he did, he slide himself off, jerking off and coming on her stomach, rolling to the side of the bed. He stared at the ceiling fan of the guest bedroom, his mind lulling him back to reality ... all he could think when that moment was once simple thing - Fuck Chris Davis.
(...)
Y/N didn’t spend the night. He noticed that in the morning as he was getting prepared from work and saw her walk in, with her dress crimped and hair barely brushed. His blood bubbled. If she wanted to fuck old money, she could’ve fucked him.
    - Had your release? - he knew he was being mean now, just looking to stir the pot. - Fun night?
    - Why? Need some new jerking off material? - she crossed her arms, speaking in a manner and language that almost made him spit his coffee. - Who’s taking Sadie to school?
    - Well, if you can still walk I’d say he did a pretty shit job, huh?
    - I guess I’m taking Sadie to school. - she rolled her eyes. - And it’s none of your business.
    - Well my employee is fucking another one of my employees. Maybe you should go to HR.
    - Maybe I should and tell them that the boss is acting like an ass. Are you seriously still upset at me that I flirted with someone at your weird benefit? I’m single, I’m allowed to flirt!
    - Not with Chris Davis. Seriously, Y/N, get a better taste in men.
    - Because you have such a great taste in women. - she poured herself a cup of coffee. - Since you’re dressed, maybe you should take Sadie to school and see your favourite ego boosting group the PTA mums.
    - Maybe I will.
    - Picking Sadie up from school or do you want me to?
    - Steve’s picking her up.
    - Steve?
Steve.

Toji would say that after becoming a parent, he could read body language pretty well. Maybe it was just part of being a single parent and having to detect when your toddlers were sprouting nonsense just to stay up later knowing it was bedtime.
From the times he believed that his little Megumi was being the perfect angel and finally grew out of his tantrum phase.
Only to turn his back and realize that he had used craft scissors to chop a chunk out of Tsumiki’s hair and was playing nice to soften his punishment, to school beatdowns and playing dumb, Toji had decided he was just a master at decoding anyone’s bullshit.
Everyone except for his own that is.
Being a single parent came with its perks, Toji loved his two little demons, and it sort of helped that Tsumiki made the most of her mother's common sense.
But dealing with his ex-wife's abrupt death, being sprung into the life of lone fatherhood, and being a successful businessman were starting to take their toll on him.
His friends were not much help. Sure, Gojo did all he could to be seen as the cool uncle, but leaving his two hyper children with a man that refused to say no to anything that they asked was like signing his children up for their possible deaths.
Geto wasn’t much better, having his own marriage and kids. You would think that the father would grow to have a bit more compassion for the children's safety. Yet every time Tsumiki and Megumi visited their brass uncle, they would always come home with new scars sprouting about how they were practicing wrestling moves with their cousins for the last ice pop.
Waking up to something different, never being able to just fill in the gaps with a routine was starting to become a bit stressful.
Not to mention going to work and having to push himself to his limits, knowing that just because he was friends and business partners with Nanami didn't mean he'd be lenient with him.
All paired with the weight of some bold secretary that he had a one-night stand and never got the clue that every time he would brush her off for paperwork didn't mean he was singling her to cling onto him more. It was bad business hooking up with one of his employees Toji knows.
If anything, the woman had taken him at just the right opportunity when he was at the lowest moment of his life. Right after his wife's death, he had fallen behind on just about everything to the point where he would lean into any sense of comfort that reminded him of that faded memory he wanted to keep dear to his heart.
So there he was after hours with a woman's thigh over his shoulder moaning out his name as if it were a prayer, and he had realized that right after it was all a mistake, which was kind of a shitty thing to note as she was standing right in front of him pulling up her panties.
He just can't do it again, out of respect for her but also for himself. The last thing he wanted to do was entangle himself in another situation that would take more time away from his kids.
Not that he considered the woman to be pestering, but he wasn't a teenager anymore. The last thing he wanted to do was handle his stress by sticking his dick in the first woman he considered attractive, all because he had trouble bottling up all his emotions.
Toji's hatred for all the lingering eyes in the office—sure, Toji thought himself handsome—the proof was the number of relationships he had in his younger days.
There was something wrong with people finding him attractive and wanting something from him when he genuinely felt like his entire world would collapse on top of him if he stopped moving.
As if he stopped overworking himself that he would be like one of those sharks that had to keep swimming or else they would fucking die. It was ironic how stupidly afraid Toji was at the thought of leaving his children alone in the world with both of their parents gone.
It was fear, having that parental fear for something every waking morning worrying every second that something could happen to children all because he could notice one little thing or he hadn't paid enough attention.
Sure, he was being a hovering parent—call it what you want—but Toji would rather be that than a father who would spend his free time sleeping around with several different women. Never wanting to have to explain to his children that none of the women he slept with could compare to the relationship he had with their mother.
So he didn't. No more attachments. No more romantic anything, let alone bringing a woman home.
It was the secretary's fault. She was a beautiful woman with long hair and a cute, petite figure, and she allowed him to fold in any position that he wanted against his desk.
All that just makes Toji feel more guilty, or more worried, as if this choppy relationship that he had with this poor woman, whose name he would always forget yet who would practically scream out his, would just blow up in his face.
What if she wanted something more serious?
What if Nanami found out that he was banging one of the employees?
What if he got fired because he couldn't keep it in his pants?
What if he lost his main source of income and couldn't provide for his kids anymore?
All of those worries were just added stress, crowding his plate until he couldn't carry it anymore, and after a few years of bottling it all up until he couldn't anymore, he finally decided to reach out for help.
Little by little, of course, he would actually tell his friends how he felt when they asked, spend more time letting Megumi and Tsumiki be actual kids, letting them hang out with their friends, and worry just a bit less whenever they would visit their younger cousins at Geto’s place.
He had even accepted Gojo’s idea of hiring a babysitter, but of course, the blonde’s intentions for such an offer were dual-minded.
Thriving on about how he should hire some smoking hot lady, to have some eye candy around the house to fuel some busting fantasies to break his dry spell.
Toji was quick to dismiss that idea for a variety of reasons, one of which was that he had hired you. You were a clumsy young girl who just needed a side hustle to pay for some of your college classes, accepting his twenty-dollar an hour ad despite the fact that it was the lowest pay sandwiched between the obviously more wealthy families looking for someone to look after their kids so they didn't have to on the boogie nanny seeking website.
At first, the idea of leaving his children alone with you was a terrifying thought. The impression that you gave him during the interview was more than enough to fuel his worries after seeing you stumble out of your car and get your jacket in the car door, dense to the point where you had face-planted into his back during the house tour, too busy gawking at the many bathrooms to pay attention to where you were supposed to be walking.
Your genuinely bubbly personality around the children is what saved you from going broke. Sure,  you were a little naive when it came to some of the things that you lied about on your resume, but the thing that Toji liked about you was that you just seemed to handle yourself so well despite not knowing at all what you were doing. If anything, he admired how you had managed to keep yourself alive despite running through life so differently than he would.
You were quick to gain his trust, in fact, quicker than anyone has ever in his entire life. He felt his feelings were mostly biased given that his kids had practically attached themselves to you throughout the months of being their nanny.
It was only natural for them to grow so close to you with how much Toji had to work, but what Toji hadn't expected was for you two to form some sort of friendship as well.
It started off pretty odd, with Toji coming home to find you have the kids tucked in for the night and spread out on his living room couch watching so many movies on his HBO Max account that he forgot he even had.
You were a pretty chatty person, and he had learned to notice how you could go from being so silent that he would forget you were even there to the point of talking about anything within your wide range of interests that Toji had never heard of.
In all honesty, Toji loved that about you—how you could introduce him to new things that he hadn't gotten around to understanding all because he was too busy being a workaholic.
His new favorite part about coming home was just to talk to you, or at least listen to your rant about some silly little show, or make him listen to one of the new songs you had become obsessed with.
And before he had known it, Toji actually felt warmth in his household again, all because of some kind-hearted nanny who had managed to break down all of his walls.
It was almost strange how someone so opposite to him, someone so minor, could have managed to make his life change for the better.
And then it got a little bit more strange.
Life had been going so well for him that sometimes those days would just blend together. There would be times at work when he had wished for his entire office building to crumble to dust just so he could get out of work early for the day, but even after those shifts, he would come home to you, and suddenly that swallowing dark hole in his chest would actually start to feel whole again.
He had just gotten so used to using you as his personal happiness dispenser that when you managed to wiggle into his life more and more, he even introduced you to his main group of friends. His mood was ruined when he saw Gojo's eyes practically glow at the sight of you during Tsumiki's birthday party.
Toji hadn't understood why it had bothered him so much, seeing his best friend become too chummy with you.
If anything, knowing Gojo’s history of charming the pants off of any attractive woman, he could have prepared him enough to know that you too would soon enough fall victim to at least one of his friends, but there was just something so uncomfortable about hearing Gojo drown you in compliments.
It was as if something had clicked, and suddenly you weren't just the full-time nanny anymore, but the beautiful young woman that he had suddenly noticed was so pretty, and that alone made Toji feel like such a fucking creep.
Maybe it was because you were closer to his children's age than his or the fact that every time you would change your hair every other month, he would imagine his hands tangled in your braids, how he would think about holding the locs away from your face to get a better view of you between his legs.
It was all so fucked, your now normal image of him all screwed over all because of Gojo and his ability to turn anything sexual. Toji had felt just a little better pinning the blame on someone else, thinking that maybe it would ease his guilt for getting so hard thinking about you late at night.
You would be just downstairs asleep in the living while he laid down on the other side of the house in the comfort of his four walls, pressing his face into his pillows with an erection hard enough that he was convinced it was harder than bricks.
For the first time in a while, it wasn't anything work-related taking up all of his attention, but instead the fucking nanny he hired. The pretty nanny who was in college, who was closer to his children's age than his, the nanny with the glossed lips that he had to hold back from wanting to taste which flavor it was she was wearing now.
His lovely nanny, whom he wished to strip naked piece by piece to pay close attention to every dip and curve in her figure. He wanted you naked as the day you were born, spread across his mattress, lips parting only to say his name and his name only.
It was a dangerous thought, one that often led to Toji revealing himself with a rabbit hole of thoughts about you in any situation his mind could imagine.
It was even more crude—wrapping his hand around his dick and thrusting his hips up into his hand, thinking about the same woman who was just a staircase away, masturbating as if he were a teenage boy and not a man with two kids asleep in just the room across the hall.
He blamed everything on Gojo, it was all his fault that you have suddenly seemed so fucking unforgettable. How could you suddenly be all he could think about with all his sanity thrown out the window for some nanny?
His pretty nanny.
You were so beautiful, with full lips, a dark complexion, and brown eyes that managed to look so appealing despite being so boring. Your expressions make you so easy to read.
The way your brows would pull together whenever you were confused, how the ends of your lips would quirk with every joke, how your personality managed to be so welcoming.
You stood tall, your head just below his shoulder, average height but so short in comparison to his towering figure.
How bad Toji just wanted to scoop you up into his arms and bury his face into your neck, the same neck where he wanted to leave as many marks as he possibly could against your brown skin.
The thought doesn't help Toji’s aching dick at all. How bad he wants to suck little marks into your soft flesh, leaving dark little marks wherever he can against your body.
It was a possessive thought, having you covered in his teeth marks and love bites, waiting for the next guy to dare to even make a move on you.
He wonders how soft your thighs feel and how nice they would feel wrapped around his waist. He lets his hand do the majority of the work, his fingers rough around his length, causing a groan from the friction.
Toji’s fantasies about you play out quite beautifully in his mind, so perfectly, in fact, that he struggles to keep himself silent.
Which was a new thing for him given that Toji wasn’t usually very vocal during sex, not even the best blowjob that he had ever gotten would he give anything but a few grunts yet there he was fisting into his fist to keep himself from whimpering out so pathetically.
Humping his hand to the point where he had to cover his own mouth, he finished all over himself, strings of cum shooting all over his chest to his shirt. He was too caught up in his own bliss to care about the sad mess he created.
Toji thought you were beautiful. He thought you were so perfect to the point where even the simple thought of you made him so happy.
You, his nanny, were the realization that settled in his mind after his high.

You didn't know the exact number, but it was quite a few people sitting together at your dining room table. Everyone was laughing, talking, and enjoying each other's company. You examine the scene in front of you, taking a quick sip of your iced tea.
You couldn't help but smile, feeling the warmth of the moment as your mom laughed loudly placing an arm on your dad's shoulder. He leaned into the touch, smiling even wider than before.
"No! Honestly, you guys are like Mr. and Mrs. Smith." John, your father's best friend says, letting out a heartwarming chuckle. Your mom and dad look at each other, their eyes twinkling with love and joy. They both nod in agreement, finding it hilarious to be compared to the movie couple.
"Don't you think Jenna?" Jenna turns at the sound of her name, humming in agreement. "Just like em'. Remember when they were them for Halloween?" John laughs, nodding in agreement. "That was a good one, wasn't it?" He turns to your mom and dad, giving them a wink. "And you two were perfect for the part."
Jenna smiles, grabbing her glass of wine. Her diamond ring shining in the light of the room. "Y/N," a voice says at the end of the table. You raise your eyebrows, looking at the older blonde-haired woman. "My son, Chris, wants to know if you're still playing basketball."
You nod, taking a sip from your glass. "Yeah, I'm still playing." You say, smiling. The woman smiles back, "That's great. Chris would love to hear more about it." You nod again, placing down your glass. "Sure, I'd love to. Why don't you let me know when he's free and we can talk about it?" The woman nods, "I'll do that. I'm sure he'd be happy to hear what you have to say."
The rest of the night went by smoothly, everyone being glad to celebrate your parents' success with their recent client. You were grateful for your parents. They loved you dearly and always made sure you knew that despite their busy schedules.
You had a deep appreciation for their dedication and hard work. You wanted to make them proud, and you knew that meant doing your best in everything you did.
Everyone was gone except Jenna who was talking to your father at the kitchen island as your mother and you were washing the dirty dishes used for the get-together. Jenna was telling your father about her plans for the future. Your mother and you were silently listening, washing the dishes as Jenna talked. You could tell your parents were proud of her and the plans she had made.
She was their youngest friend, but one of their closest. They looked at her like another daughter, and she looked up to them as mentors. "But yeah, that was about it." Jenna finishes off. Your father nods with a hum, stroking his beard. Jenna smiled, a peaceful look on her face.
"Could you put these glasses away?" Your mother asks, gaining your attention. You look away and grab the glasses, putting them away in the cabinet. You turn back around and your father winks at you causing you to laugh.
Your mother smiles, shaking her head. She knows your father and you are always joking around. "We have some news." Your mother speaks up, leaning against the kitchen counter.
Your father nods, sitting upright on the bar stool. "We're leaving for Europe tomorrow morning for business." You nod, already knowing this information.
You feel there's a but coming in, "But..." There it is. "It's a three-month-long trip." Your father speaks up immediately reading the look on your face, "Well, it was supposed to be a month and a half but your mother and I want to take some time to relax."
You shrug and nod, knowing that you can handle the extended trip. You turn to your father and smile, "It's all good. I'll be on my best behavior. You two deserve a vacation." Your father side-eyes your mother, who takes a glance back at her husband.
Okay. What's going on? "We know... because Jenna will be watching over you." You snap your head to Jenna, your brows furrowed together before glancing between your parents.
"You're leaving Jenna to babysit me?" Jenna smiled nervously, not knowing what to say. Your parents exchanged a look before your dad spoke.
"Honey you have to understand, it's three months. We trust Jenna to take care of you."
You sighed and crossed your arms, not wanting to accept the reality. You knew what they were saying was true, but you just didn't want to believe it. You looked at Jenna, who was still smiling nervously. You turn back to your mom, uncrossing your arm. "I'm eighteen!"
Your mom raises an eyebrow at the rise of your voice. You took a deep breath, trying to stay calm. "You just turned eighteen. Watch your tone." You exhaled sharply and nodded, conceding to the fact that you had to wait before you could make your own decisions.
You glanced at Jenna, who was still sitting patiently, and then back at your mom. "Okay, I understand," you said, before turning your attention back to Jenna. Jenna smiles at you, relieved.
"And since you're under some new supervision we talked about some ground rules." First a babysitter and now ground rules? Were you fourteen? Your mom looks at your dad who nods quickly, turning his attention to you.
"We're taking the keys to your motorcycle," your eyes widen and you drop your jaw. He continues despite your reaction, "Please consult with Jenna before you do anything. No random invites, no random going out, tell her."
You nod your head in understanding. You know that this rule is for your own safety. "And finally go to class. No skipping! If I get a call from the office telling me you missed class, all hell will break loose. You hear me?" Your mom buts in, a stern look on her face.
You nod again and mumble, "Yes ma'am." You take a deep breath, knowing that your mom is looking out for you. Your mom raises from the counter, walking over to you and rubbing a hand on your bicep and saying, "We love you. We want you to be safe and responsible."
She gives your arm a gentle squeeze stepping back and facing Jenna, "Jenna you can stay in the guest room upstairs. If you need anything don't be afraid to ask, and make yourself at home." Jenna smiled and thanked her.
"There's plenty of food in the kitchen, and feel free to watch TV or use the internet if you want." Jenna nodded, giving your mom a warm smile. She thanked her again, and your dad stands up giving Jenna a squeeze on her shoulder before sticking his tongue out at you and heading upstairs.
Jenna laughed and your mom shook her head, amused following behind the tall man. Once your parents we're out of the kitchen Jenna looks at you, her dark brown eyes staring into yours. She smiled brightly and said, "Don't worry, I'm not a bad babysitter."
You shake your head, smiling. "Please stop. The term babysitter is so embarrassing." Jenna laughed and said, "I know you're not a baby, but I guess I'm still going to have to look out for you." She winked and you both laughed. You were relieved that she wasn't going to treat you like a child.
This was going to be a crazy three months.

Story below the cut
You were doing anything to get a job. All your debts from college were building up quicker than you liked and you were overwhelmed with the idea of being sent to jail for having too much money due.
So you found yourself getting a job as a nanny. Yes, a nanny. You were to look after a young girl around the age of 7 all day and prepare all meals for her. The job was simple enough. Now being a graduate from University, you no longer have to worry about studying for things and getting good grades.
What made this job hard was you weren’t working for some random family that you found online that needed a job. You were working for the incredibly wealthy family that seemed to ‘rule’ the small town you lived in. The Skywalkers.
They owned just about every successful business. And, they were also related to the Mayor of the town. Which is quite a big deal.
So, when you pulled up to the Skywalker residence almost five minutes late, you were worried that you were going to get fired immediately. But, you still held your breath and prayed to the Maker that your day would go just fine and you wouldn't have to worry about job hunting for at least a few years now.
When the door was opened, you were confused to see someone you didn’t even recognise. He was at least 6 feet, and he looked like he was about to just slam the door back into your face when he made eye contact with you.
“Um. . .” You trailed off.
“Who are you and what do you want?” The man asked you.
“I-” You began but were interrupted when an older lady walked up behind and practically shoved him out of the way.
“Hello dear! You must be Y/N! I am so glad you came, I hope Mr. Windu didn’t frighten you off. He’s just our home's security guard since we have had a few break-ins over the years. He might look scary but I promise you he’s a big teddy bear (Mr. Windu huffed at that, to which the Lady smiled to) Well, nevermind that! Come in, come in! Ahsoka can’t wait to meet her new caretaker. And did I mention how grateful I am for your help? I can go on and on all day about it.”
She waved you into the house and you followed in, the door being slammed behind you.
You smiled when you made eye-contact with the woman and immediately recognised her. Shmi Skywalker.
“Mother, who is this?” You heard a small voice call out from behind you. You turned around and noticed a small, young girl standing straight. She wore a pretty red dress that flowed off her waist elegantly and her hair was tied up into two french braids that went past her shoulders. She had bright blue eyes and she had small freckles dotting her face. You had to admit: She was one adorable little girl.
“Hello there,” You smiled. “You must be Ahsoka. I am your new caretaker, Y/N.”
The young girl grinned and ran up to you and gave you a tight hug.
“Hi! I am so so happy you are finally here! My older brother left for work and I was gonna die of boredom.”
You giggled at the young girl’s dramatic speech and grasped her hand firmly.
“Why don’t you show me where you usually play?” You asked her with a twinkle of mischief in your voice.
“I’m so glad to see you both are getting along just fine.” Shmi interrupts you with a happy tone of voice. You turned your head to meet her gaze and gave her a small smile.
“Thank you for giving me this opportunity, Mrs. Skywalker.”
“Not a problem dear. Now I have some work to do. I won’t be back till at least 12 tonight. So feel free to take the spare room near Ahsoka’s room. Since I often am out late, you can expect to find yourself there quite often if you don’t mind.”
“Not at all, Ma’am. I brought enough things for one night.” You politely replied.
“Splendid! Well, Ahsoka darling, I’ll see you tomorrow bright and early, hopefully.”
Shmi opened her arms for a hug and Ahsoka broke from your grasp and ran to her mother.
“Good-bye Mother! I love you.” Ahsoka whispered. Shmi gave her a small peck on her cheek before she rushed out the door. When the door closed behind her, you faced Ahsoka and gave her a small and cheeky smile.
“So, what do you want to do?” You asked her.
“I want to dress up! And also, can we bake some cookies?” Ahsoka asked with puppy dog eyes. You giggled at her interesting combo of activities.
“Sure, but you have to choose which one you want to do first.”
Ahsoka stood completely still for a moment before she grins.
“How about we dress up AND bake at the same time? We could pretend we are in the 1800’s and we sell baked goods for a living!” Ahsoka beamed over her idea and your heart just about melted. The way a child’s imagination works always fascinated you. You for one never had much of a childhood since you came from a poorer family and worked to help as long as you could remember. But you never let that stop you from supporting children who are fortunate to do what they want and when they wanted.
“Sure.” You grabbed Ahsoka’s hand before deciding to pick her up. “Now, how about you show me where your room is so we can get changed?”
+++
About two hours later, you both were dressed in robes that Ahsoka found in her dress up closet and had completed a nice batch of chocolate-chip cookies. By the time lunch came around, Ahsoka had almost four cookies and was high from the sugar and was (literally) bouncing off of walls.
You then decided it was best for the both of you to go outside to the backyard and play out there for a while to get rid of some of her built up energy. Ahsoka was of course running around the whole time. It wasn’t until about an hour later that she was completely drained of sugar and with heavy feet walked back to where you had seated on the porch overlooking the large yard.
“Hello Ahsoka, are you okay?” You asked when you noticed her attitude had changed from her usual cheery self. She nodded and sat beside you before she leant her head onto your shoulder.
“I am okay.I just miss my older brother, Y/N.” She whimpered as tears began to fill her eyes. You hugged her from the side and rested your chin on her small head.
“It’s alright, I’m pretty sure he misses you too.”
“I don’t think so. He is an adult now and he’s never ever home to play with me.” Ahsoka said with a pout. “I believe that big brother has replaced me with his job and loves his job more than me.”
“What’s your older brother's name?” You asked her with a gentle tone. Ahsoka’s facial expression changed from one of anger to one of joy within a few seconds. And from that observation, you realised that she seemed to love talking about her older brother.
“His name is Kinny. Or at least that’s what I call him. I don’t ever call him by his real name because he thinks it’s stupid. Also, some of his friends call him Vader. But I personally believe that name is dumber” Ahsoka shrugged. You hummed at the new information before you pulled out your phone to get an idea about the time.
“Well, it’s around supper time now. Are you hungry for anything in particular?” You asked the young girl. Ahsoka nodded slowly before a familiar mischievous grin graced her features.
“Can we have cookies for dinner?”
You let out a small laugh at the response before you shook your head.
“You have had way too many cookies for today, young one. I think we should save some for your older brother when he gets home.”
Ahsoka seemed pleased with the arrangement and agreed.
+++
After about an hour or so you had Ahsoka go to bed. After she fell asleep, you decided to go downstairs to read a book that you brought with you to entertain yourself until you decided that it was your bedtime. You sighed quietly and continued to flip through the book, but your ears perked up when you heard the front door open. You sat up straight when you remembered that Mrs. Skywalker said she wouldn’t be home as early as 12, and it currently was around 9pm. You peered over the top of your book and noticed someone was standing in front of you.
“Um. . .hi?” you cringed at the question. The stranger, (being a young man of at least older than 20 years of age) gave you a questioning look. From the looks of it, he was at least 6 foot 2 and had an even scarier appearance than the guy you met this morning at the door. He had ocean blue eyes and a scar ran down the left side of his cheek.
You gulped quietly when you noticed he began to walk over to you slowly.
“Who are you? And what are you doing in my house?” he asked you. That was when you realised who this man was. It was the other Skywalker; Ahsoka’s older brother. Kinny? Was that his name?
“I’m Y/N. Who are you?” You asked with the most confidence you could muster. The man raised a brow at the question.
“You don’t know who I am?” He asked you with amusement in his eyes. You nodded way too quickly for your own liking. But he was making you nervous and you didn’t exactly want to respond with words at the moment. You feared you would accidentally say something wrong and get kicked out of the house before your brain could even process it.
“Seriously?”
You made eye-contact with the stranger again and raised your brow this time.
“Seriously what?”
“You really have no idea who I am?”
“No? Am I supposed to?” You sheepishly answered and nearly squealed when the stranger took another step closer to you.
“I am Anakin Skywalker. How the heck do you not know that? I like-run multiple businesses that are scattered across this town. Including The Order? You know, the biggest arcade and restaurant in town?”
You stood there dumb-found when you realised who he really was. Anakin Skywalker. The Anakin Skywalker. You had heard about him from your group of girl friends who all simp over him like love-sick animals. But you never paid much attention to those sorts of things. You didn’t even have any social media accounts since you used a crappy flip-phone. Even though the Skywalker’s were basically the rulers of the small town of Coruscant, you never cared much to find out who they really were and what they looked like.
“I wouldn’t know. I have never been to an arcade.” You told him with a shy smile when you saw his face go from one of curiosity to bewilderment.
“What?! What rock have you been hiding under?” he rudely replied to the new information.
You rolled your eyes at his response before you continued to read the book you sat down before the conversation began. It was quite obvious that this small action added fuel to the fire; and it took a second for you to realise that your book was snatched out of your hands and thrown onto the floor.
“Hey, why did you do that?” you calmly asked him. You weren’t someone who often looked for trouble, it went against all the things your beloved parents ever taught you.
“Why do you think?! I was talking to you and you decided to ignore me!” He shouted. In his fit of rage he brought his hand up to his hair and pulled on it. You watched the scene he was making unravel with a straight face. It was incredibly difficult seeing a grown man act like a five year old child.
“Umm for the record Mr. Skywalker, you were basically scrutinising how I live my life. I don’t care what you think, and I don’t do what every other person in this town does. So leave me be and get on with your evening. Good-night.” At those words, you stood up from where you were seated and walked to the book Anakin had earlier grabbed and thrown to the floor. But as you began to walk away, your arm was grabbed and you were pulled into the very strong chest of Anakin Skywalker.
“I wasn’t done talking to you.” Anakin said calmer than before. You tried to pull away from his grip but it was no use. He was incredibly strong. You sighed in frustration.
“I just wanted to say, I’m sorry you're such a Hobbit and don’t search for adventure.” Anakin grinned at his stupid joke. You however dryly laughed before you kicked him in the shins and began to walk to the room you were given.
“Why you fucking-I’LL TELL MY MOTHER!” He yelled before he practically bounded up the stairs to what you assume was his room and heard a door slam shut.
“What a prick.” you said to yourself calmly before closing the doors to your own room.
+++
You woke up early the next morning and got dressed into comfortable clothing for the day. You wore a nice pair of jeans and a large sweater since it was a bit chilly outside.
You decided to start up breakfast for Ahsoka since it was part of your job to do so. There was a small decision between pancakes and porridge. Eventually, you decided to make some pancakes and began to look around the kitchen for the ingredients.
After about ten minutes or so, you jumped at the sound of a coffee machine turning on. You looked up from what you were doing and noticed a very-much grumpy Anakin Skywalker. His arms were folded and his hair was matted to his face. You sheepishly smiled at him before turning around and continuing on with what you were doing before.
“What are you doing?” you heard a groggy voice. You turned back around and noticed Anakin was standing directly behind you.
“What are you doing?” You asked as you attempted to shove him back a ways. He smirked at your failure before he stepped up closer to you. He could feel him breathing down your neck and you shivered. You turned around and your face was mere millimetres away from his. You gulped and attempted to move away from him but found you were stuck between the counter and him.
“What do you mean? I’m just standing here.” He grinned when he realised he’s struck a tick that bothers you.
“You're way too close to me. Can you move back a few steps? Actually, a few feet?” You once more attempted to push him back but he just stood his ground and didn’t even move a centimetre. You groaned aloud in annoyance and just turned around and attempted to ignore his presence.
Meanwhile, Anakin was having the thrill of his life. He wanted to watch what you were doing and wanted to be as close as possible. Y/N (and whatever your last name was) was interesting to him. He never met someone so young who lived in a way you did. You couldn’t have been much younger than he was, and he was about to turn 24 in a few months. He decided to test dangerous waters and stept even closer to you. His body pressed against your own; he let out a nervous breath when he noticed you continued to do what you were doing and completely ignored his existence.
Meanwhile, you were having a literal heart attack. Like what the actual fuck is this man doing? Isn’t this illegal?
Your head swarmed with many questions and before you realised it, the pancake batter was done. The only problem being Anakin standing literally behind you.
“You may as well fuse with my body, Skywalker,” you told him when you realised he still wouldn’t let you move.
“I wouldn't mind that.” He said to himself.
“What?” You asked, confused on what he was mumbling about.
“You know,” he began, a smirk growing across his handsome face. “Instead of sitting on babies, maybe you should sit on my lap?” Anakin flirted.
You just about froze at what you heard. Who does he think he is? Sitting on babies?
“Bloody hell? What are you on about?” you paled.
“You're my sister's babysitter are you not?” He asked.
“I-yes?” you were still confused. That was until you thought about the fact that he said ‘babysitter’. You sighed heavily when you realised you are practically gonna look after two children instead of just one that was already pretty mature for such a young age.
“Skywalker, I am trying to make breakfast. I would appreciate it if you would get out of my bloody way.”
“Woah, chill out. I wasn’t trying to make you angry.”
You just about tackled him to the ground when you heard that. You made eye contact with him and tried to look threatening. But to no avail, you found yourself immediately looking away. His face was angelic. His bright blue eyes, curly dirty-blonde hair; and the grin he sent you made him look even more handsome.
You decided to just once again ignore him and began to cook the pancakes on the stove. You were glad when you didn’t feel him standing behind you anymore. But when you turned around to serve plates, you ran right into him once more.
You were about to yell at him when you felt him grab a hold of your waist and you felt lips connect with yours. It took you a few seconds to realise you were kissing him; and completely by accident. You didn’t kiss back as you were frozen in complete and utter shock. You looked up and noticed Anakin was looking at you with a look you couldn’t quite decipher.
But one thing for sure you did know, was how pissed you were about the situation.
“Huh, that’s never happened to me before. And it took, what, only a few hours for you to try and make out with me?” Anakin said with a cocky tone of voice. Your head nearly blew up in rage when he said that. Make out with him? Mate, you must be mental. You took steady breaths to try and calm yourself down.
“You-” you paused when you got a hold of yourself. “You just stole my first kiss, you bastard.”
Much to your surprise you watched Anakin smile at you.
“That makes it even better then, can I kiss you again? And what do you even mean by ‘steal’? You kissed me, not the other way around.”
You could feel tears begin to settle in your eyes but you held them back.
“I didn’t even want to kiss you the first time, you sorry excuse of a human.” You said with a shaky voice. As your mother had always said, it’s usually the men that were incredibly handsome that caused a lot of anger and heartbreak. And she was right. You always thought it was a joke to protect you from doing dumb things, but now, you realised she wasn’t that wrong. Your first kiss was stolen, by a stuck up, rude prick.
Anakin looked taken aback at your statement.
“What do you mean you didn’t want to kiss me? Everyone wants to kiss me.” That was all it took for you to confirm that Anakin Skywalker was a hot-headed, self-centred, arrogant man.
You huffed at him and finished serving plates. After you made the last plate you saw a familiar face walk up to you in the large kitchen.
“Good-morning Ahsoka, did you sleep well?” you asked her with a cheery voice. Anakin raised his brow when he noticed your change in attitude.
Ahsoka nodded and walked up to stand next to you. She reached up to grab a plate for herself and you helped her. She giggled in thanks and ran towards the dinning room to eat her food.
“Little prick didn’t even say ‘hi’ to me.” you heard a very grumpy Anakin complain.
“Maybe if you were a ‘good big brother that spent time with her often,’ she’d say ‘hi’ to you.” You smirked before grabbing your own plate and walked to the dining room to find Ahsoka.
+++
Breakfast was over quickly and you began to clean up the mess from it. Anakin had left shortly after he snatched a couple of pancakes to do who knows what. You were quite glad he was no longer there to mope around and cause trouble.
“Y/N! Can we go to the aquarium today? I want to see mermaids and fishes!” Ahsoka practically screamed when you finished putting the last plate into the dishwasher.
“The aquarium? Which one? There are many here.”
“Kamino Aquarium, obviously.”
You gulped. Of course the young Skywalker has been to the most extravagant aquarium Coruscant had to offer.
“How about we go somewhere else? Like the park or the public pool? It’s a far drive to Kamino and back.”
Ahsoka hummed in thought. She made a face that uncannily looked like the one Anakin made when he was teasing you-wait, why are you thinking about Anakin?
You shook your head at your thoughts and looked back at Ahsoka who seemed to know what she wanted to do.
“Can we go to the Park? It’s close to where Kinny works and he might stop by and say hello.”
Your smile dropped and you felt like frowning. Of course that insolent pup is going to be there. You brought your hand up to your face and pinched the bridge of your nose.
“Sure, ‘Soka, we can go to the park.” You sighed through your nose and began to head up to your temporary room to grab your things. Ahsoka jumped up and down in excitement and ran to her room to get herself ready.
+++
“Y/n! Looky! Kinny is here!” Ahsoka shouted at the top of her lungs. You watched her jump off the swings she was on and bound towards the entrance of the small playground. You didn’t even turn around to acknowledge the presence of the other adult. Instead, you crossed your arms and legs and sat with gritted teeth on the small bench that overlooked the park.
“And hello to you too, Y/n/n.” you heard a familiar voice. You rolled your eyes and turned to face the culprit of all your troubles of the past 24 hours.
“Y/n/n? Really? Already on nicknames?” you huffed in annoyance.
“Yup. And you can call me anything you want as well.”
“How about dumbarse?” You said through clenched teeth.
Anakin chuckled and shook his head.
“Careful, Y/n/n, we have a pair of young ears listening.”
“Kinny, what is dumb arms?” Ahsoka asked innocently. Anakin snorted and you choked on the air you were breathing.
“Umm. . .he isn’t able to control his arms.” you said, hoping she would accept the answer. Anakin raised a brow at that, and was about to argue before Ahsoka bursted into a fit of giggles.
“Kinny, is that why you have people at your workshop help you? You can’t lift weights? I thought you were a strong person.”
“Wha-? I am! Y/n doesn’t know what she’s talking about.”
“Nuh uh, she went to adult school and you only went to teen school. She is, therefore, smarter than you.” Ahsoka stuck her tongue out at Anakin, before getting bored with the conversation and scurried off towards the play set where other kids her age were playing.
“Really? That was the best you could think of?”
“Well, I’m so sorry, but you weren’t gonna talk so I did.”
“Now my sister thinks I am incapable of doing things.”
“From what I’ve seen of you? You’re not totally incapable.” you said, suddenly interested in picking the skin around your nails.
“Really? Like what?” You smirked at his reply. He was a compliment seeker. How convenient, time to hurt his pathetically large ego.
“You’re exceptionally good at making a terrible first impression. Your flirting skills are mediocre, and you throw more tantrums than a four year old.”
You looked back up to see his reaction, and was confused to see him grinning ear-to-ear.
“You don’t like the way I flirt? Tell me, what do you like then?”
Your jaw dropped to the ground. What the heck is this man on? You basically just degraded him and he wasn’t even going to acknowledge it? You felt something touch your knee and noticed it was his hand. You didn’t even see him sit down next to you, that and the fact he’s basically trying to sit on you.
“S-Skywalker, can you please move? You're in my personal space.” You tried to push him back.
“Why?”
“What do you mean ‘why’? I already gave you a reason.”
“No, not that.”
“Then what, Skywalker?” You groaned in annoyance. You felt his hand begin to move up to your thigh and your breath got caught in your throat. This was definitely illegal.
“Why do you hate me so much? Why don’t you like me?” He whispered.
“I don’t hate you. I just really despise you and how you act. You were rather rude to me last night, and you kissed me without my consent.”
“I didn’t kiss you, you kissed me.”
“Look, it doesn’t matter ‘who kissed who’, it still happened and you tried to make a joke out of it.”
“I was just teasing you-”
“No, Anakin. You shouldn’t do that to people. It ninety-nine percent of the time rubs them the wrong way.” With that, you stood up from the bench and walked to where Ahsoka was playing.
“C’mon, let’s go home.”

Newt x reader Bridgerton AU. Reader, the diamond of the season, is the Duchess of Hastings. She wants to marry someone who likes her as a person and isn’t after her money. Newt, son of a widowed viscountess, needs to marry to save his family’s reputation because his sister Sonya was seen alone with her fiancé Lord Aris before they were engaged. The start of a new social season, although intended, supposedly, to be a cause for joy, feels rather more like a fierce uprising of dread, not celebration. Across the ton, young maidens find themselves new entrees– or, entrants– to the marriage mart. This game of rings and dances, men with ambition and women with more, will end in blissful happiness or deepest discontent. And all will be witnessed by every worthy family from one corner of the country to the next.
If all goes according to plan, an eligible would-be bride will find herself engaged to a man she loves, a man in possession of a handsome fortune and a sterling reputation. If luck slips past her, she’ll settle for someone decent, or someone without any income at all. If nothing goes in her favor, her first year in society will not be her last as a single woman. She will have to repeat her attempt the next year, this time without the glimmering aura of a new arrival, and hope that something within her has changed enough to attract a proposal. Otherwise, she will sink to the bottom of the pile of dance cards, ignored, abandoned, and grown up into a spinster. All that hard work gone to waste.
You’ve heard many young women discuss the marriage mart with nothing short of absolute terror in their voices. A good opening season can seal a girl’s fate forever. Attracting the eye of a worthy man is an impossible task for all but the best of the rosebuds, or so it seems. Most of us will settle for something halfway decent– a tidy sum per annum but nothing extravagant, a man with casual disinterest but nothing harsh. Something that can be shaped into something good, or at least ignored in favor of not being alone. Such is the romance of a married life.
You, however, hope to extract a little more out of the whole affair. As the Duchess of Hastings, you have no need for money. A marriage would be nice, the final touch on the portrait of a successful lady, but you do not require the financial stability of a husband. You have plenty of money and plenty of friends. You will inherit your estate. If you look for a husband, you will look only for love.
One would think, then, that entering your first season among the eligible women of the ton would be bereft of the panic permeating through most of your friends in search of husbands. However, when you line up with the rest of the young women to be presented to the Queen at the start of the season, you find that it couldn’t be less true.
Your stomach is in knots, even as you sweep confidently through the corridor to wait outside the door. The white feather in your hair stands tall and proud. Your dress is crisp and finely stitched, the highest of fashion yet never gaudy. You attract stares wherever you go– from the other girls, envious and jealous and heartsick, from the men, longing and cutthroat and mercenary– but pretend they don’t phase you in the slightest. As duchess, you’ve had plenty of time to grow accustomed to onlookers. You won’t allow them to interfere with you on this all important day.
At last, your name is called, and you enter the throne room, your mother behind you. You keep your steps small but light, and seem to float towards your queen. When the time is right, you sink into an elegant curtsy. The moment seems to last forever, your knees bent, your hands shaking slightly, but when the queen calls you to stand, you look up to find her smiling benevolently at you.
“I believe I have found my diamond of the season,” she announces.
The room erupts in polite applause, and you do your best to smother a smile that’s entirely too giddy to be proper. As you retreat from the room, you gaze at the faces surrounding you, trying to remember which ones look genuinely happy for you and which seem to be identifying a prize pig for the slaughter. When the town gossips all gather later to share their thoughts on today’s proceedings, you’re certain that some of them will attempt to discredit you, saying that of course the queen would choose the duchess as her diamond, but you know just as well as all of them that you deserve the honor today. You were the best of everyone here, and it’s plain to see.
Among all of them, your gaze catches on a singular man, almost lost in the crowd from all the bodies packed together but no less entrancing. What strikes you the most is that his face seems kind, and his eyes sparkle with pride as they watch you go. Pride for you, for your accomplishments. As if he couldn’t be more delighted that you of all people were named the season’s diamond.
Then you’re gone from the room, and the kind man is no longer before you. Still, you puzzle over the encounter long after your carriage takes you home. You don’t believe you recognize him, but that doesn’t mean anything to sway you towards any decision. An image of the young man swims in your mind– short, dirty blond hair, an upturned mouth, dark eyes, his face almost spritely. Clever, for sure.
You know better than to mess with clever men. Clever men are the type to try and twist your mind, convince you that they only love you then attempt to make off with your money. You know full well what marriage to you will offer any would-be suitor. This season, you may be looking for affection, but every man in the room will be after your fortune. The task of finding someone who truly cares for you will be a difficult one indeed.
So, clever men or not, you’ll have to keep your heart under close guard. When the first ball of the season comes to be, you don one of your finest dresses, and firmly admonish yourself to be careful. The game of hearts is not one that you lose. Either you win, or you destroy yourself.
You time your arrival carefully, so as to make the best entrance, and your efforts are rewarded. From the moment you’re announced, all eyes turn to you. Were it not for your extensive experience with being scrutinized in the grand magnifying lens that is the ton, you’d be nervous to have that many people looking at you. Even still, you can’t pretend you don’t feel a small flutter in your stomach.
It gets easier once you sweep further into the room, once people start smiling at you again, when the conversation picks up and you’re asked for your first dance of the evening, which you accept. Your partner is a charming man named Minho– dark hair, witty eyes, an excellent sense of humor. He’s athletic and a decent dancer, and by the time the music stops, you’re back to your usual self again. You can’t stop yourself from mentally sizing up your dance partner. He seems nice, and you wouldn’t be bored around him, at least. His family owns land. Although he’s not of your precise social standing, few are, and he’s close enough to you that it would be a respectable match.
Still– still, you think to yourself, as you move away from the center of the floor once more to consider your dance card, it’s not quite enough. You want love, you want a spark, and you didn’t quite get that with Minho. There are plenty of eligible suitors here, though, and many more balls to come. You’ll have other opportunities to select a match.
A few dances later, though, your feet are beginning to feel heavy and you’re still no closer to finding someone of interest than you were at the start. A good lady of extensive training such as yourself should have no problem dancing the entire night through with a pleasant smile on her face, but you’re still human, still tired, and your charming demeanor is beginning to pinch at the seams before long.
The music for the latest dance ends, and you curtsy to your partner, praying silently that no one else will be looking to fill your dance card for the next rotation. However, when you turn around, you’re greeted with the sight of many anxious faces. Something inside you wilts, perhaps your endurance.
Before the mobs can descend upon you, however, a figure appears in front of you. You sigh in relief to see one of your closest friends, Miss Teresa Agnes. “Teresa! And here I thought I wouldn’t have a single good friend all evening.”
Teresa laughs, her dark hair shining. “I would never abandon you. Certainly not when our diamond is sparkling so spectacularly tonight.”
You smile at her. “I’m not the only one who’s sparkling, Teresa. You look lovely.”
“Thank you,” Teresa says sincerely. “Now, if you don’t mind, I’d like to introduce someone to you. This is Viscount Newt, a good friend of mine. I met him through Thomas.”
You smile to yourself as Teresa turns to beckon someone towards you. Teresa has been harboring a not-so-secret admiration for Thomas since you were all small. This is her first season in the social circles, too, and if she doesn’t come out of it with a proposal from Thomas, you’ll think the sky has fallen. Even now, he’s watching her fondly from across the room, trying to pretend as if he isn’t pining madly while Minho teases him for it.
“Here he is at last,” Teresa says, and all of a sudden you can’t think about Thomas’ case of lovesickness for a second longer, because Teresa has brought her friend before you, and you know him. It’s the stranger from your presentation to the queen. The nice one, the clever one. The one that caught your eye, and then your imagination.
You curtsy automatically, and Newt bows. Once the two of you straighten up, you’re able to observe him more closely. You’d only gotten a fleeting glimpse earlier, but now you can drink in the sight of him, and you do. His eyes are dark, but catch the lights like stars. His mouth has a habit of twitching up at the sides, as if he’s always thinking of a joke but just barely managing to keep it at bay. When he looks at you, he really looks at you. You’ve been stared at all night by would-be suitors, but their gazes never went farther than surface level. Right now, it’s as if Newt can see through to your very soul, and most intimately of all, appreciates it.
Teresa gives you a confused look, and you realize you’ve been standing in silence for longer than is probably courteous. “It’s a pleasure to meet you,” you say.
“I must return the sentiment,” Newt returns. “Teresa has talked about you many times. I’ve been quite eager to meet you.”
“I hope I’m worthy of what she’s told you,” you say.
Newt smiles again. “I believe you’re even better than that,” he tells you.
Teresa is looking at you with an odd smile. “I believe I’d better let the two of you get to know each other, then,” she says, and sweeps away before you can stop her.
Newt laughs. “She’s been wanting to set us up for ages. For a friendship, I mean,” he breaks in hastily. “Apparently, she thinks we have a similar sense of humor.”
“I look forward to finding that out myself,” you smile.
Newt’s eyes flash with mirth again, delighting you. Behind you, the music picks up again. Newt extends a hand towards you. “Would you mind if I shared a dance with you? Unless, of course, you’d rather sit for a while.”
“I’d love to dance,” you say quickly, and it’s true. All of a sudden, the pain in your feet is gone, as if it had never existed at all.
Newt smiles and takes your hand to lead you to the dance floor. The orchestra begins its melody, and you start your dance. You make a mental note to ask Teresa a little more about Newt later; he dances like an aristocrat, but he speaks so freely to you. It’s nothing like you’ve ever experienced in a suitor before.
Newt arches a brow as he steps through the dance. “Sizing me up, are you? It may be improper of me to ask, but I do hope I’m meeting your requirements.”
Your cheeks heat up. “I’m simply appreciating your mastery of this dance. Nothing more.”
Newt laughs easily. “Of course not. It’s not as if everyone else here is doing the same thing right now. Every dance partner is a strategy meeting. In just a matter of minutes, you’ll walk away knowing if I am a worthy wager, and I will do the same. This ball is full of hounds and foxes, my lady. We all know our parts.”
You glance at him, feeling a curious grin tugging at your lips. “And which am I? Fox or hound?”
Newt returns your proud gaze. “I suppose we’ll find out at the end of the season, won’t we?”
You laugh, feeling oddly triumphant. Newt has this way about him that you find enchanting. It’s  almost breaching impropriety with how candid he is around you, but it only makes you trust him more. The dance ends far sooner than you’d like. Newt relinquishes you to the storm of suitors outside, hopefully with just as much reluctance as you.
The rest of the night passes in a blur. Newt is truly the only one that stands out to you. You don’t have a chance to dance with him again, but you keep making eye contact as you dance with other partners. You can practically hear his clever words in your head, catching you in the act of evaluating the suitors in front of you. Fox or hound?
When the ball ends and you return to your carriage for the ride home, you’re blissful, practically dreamy. You’ve had enough time with Newt to dream about it until the next ball, where you’ll likely repeat the same cycle over and over again until the season ends.
However, your golden mood is shattered when your chaperone sits down across from you. Her face, by contrast, is twisted with disappointment. “Do you have any idea what sort of trouble you’re getting yourself into?” She asks once the carriage pulls away.
Still caught up in the heady dream of a merry boy who smiled the brightest when he danced with you, you don’t realize the trap descending around you until it’s too late. “What trouble?”
Your chaperone’s lips purse. “You’re meant to be dancing only with eligible gentlemen, my lady. I should hope that you’d be able to recognize the suitable candidates from the unseemly by now.”
The veil is pierced, and you’re beginning to be brought back to earth. “What are you talking about? I thought I made perfectly reasonable choices with my dance partners.”
Your chaperone shakes her head, a quick, sharp gesture. “All but one. Goodness, haven’t you heard about the trouble with that one family? I can’t believe Miss Agnes had the nerve to introduce him to you, but perhaps the fact that she’s so besotted with Lord Thomas is upsetting her mind.”
Your heart freezes in your chest. “You can’t mean to say that the Viscount is not a suitable bachelor? What else could he be?”
The other woman sighs. “You don’t know, do you? My lady, I would not interfere if I did not feel the need, but I can assure you, his motives with you are purely mercenary. That man is desperate for something to cover up the follies of his family, and you, my dear, are the perfect gilded shield.”
You feel cold. “What follies?”
“His sister, Miss Sonya, was seen alone with her fiance,” your chaperone murmurs at last. “Lord Aris. I would think you would have heard his name, although perhaps not connected it with Viscount Newt. Miss Sonya and Lord Aris were happily engaged, and by all accounts it was a fine union, but they were seen together without a chaperone past dark. Quite the scandal. The Viscount knows it and is eager to get the ton talking about anything but his sister’s misdeeds. Entering into a courtship with you would do just the trick.”
She’s right, and you know it, and you hate it. “He seemed so genuine,” you whisper, and instantly know how foolish it sounds.
Your chaperone, to her credit, is kind enough to take pity on you. “He did,” she tells you, “and you looked happy together. You would be less happy, however, when you found out the truth. I would rather you know now and stay away. Men like that are nothing but trouble.”
You nod solemnly, turning your head to watch the dark landscapes rumbling past. The sun is already beginning to rise, a hallmark of a late night out. It had been a beautiful night up until this, and now the entire evening is ruined in your mind.
“I feel for Miss Sonya,” you whisper. “She was already engaged. They were just talking.”
“She knows the rules of society, and so do you,” your chaperone reminds you. “We all have our roles to play.”
And the consequence of setting a foot outside your role is instant public mortification. Yes. What a forgiving world. You immediately plant your exhausted body in your bed when you return, hardly sparing the time to wash and dress, but the only things to bloom from your rest are troubled dreams of the boy that could have been yours. Now that you know the truth– that Newt was only trying to use you for a better reputation– every interaction with him is tainted.
You’d meant what you said in the carriage, though. You did think Newt was genuine. Hadn’t he laughed more than usual when he was with you? Hadn’t he regarded you with that fierce pride of his, as if he’d finally found a mind that was an equal to his? Hadn’t he watched you with something akin to jealousy when you danced with the other men that weren’t him?
Hadn’t you wished he would only dance with you? And don’t you wish that you could truly do what you promised yourself and marry only for love, never mind the rest? It is a simple dream to think that love is easy. Marriage is not simple, not in the ton, not in your lifetime. Every one of your days will be shaped by the whims of society, even when they take Newt away from you.
When it comes time for the next ball, you do your best to strengthen your spirits before you go. You intentionally avoid him, making sure to always have your dance card full whenever the music ends. It’s easy enough to find a crowd large enough to hide you from him, and yet you still catch glimpses of Newt from across the hall, several partners down, in a carriage many behind yours. You successfully go two balls, then three, without seeing him, but it aches like a knife in your ribs when you think about what could have been.
As it turns out, you’re not the only one wishing you were with him. At the fifth ball of the season, your attempts to distance yourself from the viscount are foiled at last. Newt tracks you down, signing his name on your dance card before you can stop him before leading you out to the dance floor.
“That’s a rather abrupt way of asking a lady to dance, don’t you think?” You ask as you curtsy.
Newt bows. “I felt it was the only way of guaranteeing that you would dance with me.”
“A lady never declines a gentleman in need of a dance,” you remind him.
The music picks up, and the two of you begin your paces. “A lady also never avoids a gentleman as thoroughly as you have at the last few balls,” Newt says. “Were it not for the fact that I know you to be as perfectly agreeable a duchess as there could ever be, I would say that it was personal.”
You can’t look him in the eyes, even with his hands on you, guiding you through the steps. “It’s not meant to work out, my lord. Us, I mean. We cannot forget the rules.”
When Newt speaks again, his voice sounds hurt. “Why not? Forgive me, my lady, but I remember what it was like that first night. You were happy. We were happy, and happy together. What changed?”
At last, you risk a glance towards him, and instantly regret it. Newt’s eyes are filled with genuine hurt. Are you wrong? Did he actually want you as more than a cover-up? “I heard about your sister,” you say as delicately as you can.
Still, Newt flinches as if you’ve hit him. “You don’t know the full story,” Newt says raggedly.
“Then tell me,” you beg him. “I would choose you if I could, but everyone seems to think that you are only interested in me to advance your station. Give me a reason to believe in you, not them.”
“I can’t say it here,” Newt whispers.
“I can’t go somewhere with you alone,” you tell him quietly. “Especially not after what happened to your sister. You must tell me now, or we will never have another chance.”
“Alright,” he says at last. “But you mustn’t breathe a word of it to anyone.”
Once you agree, Newt begins to speak in a hushed whisper hardly audible to you, let alone the other couples around you. “Sonya is deeply in love with Lord Aris, and he is in love with her. So much so to the point that he has been battling a deep rage ever since that awful gossip rag, Lady Whistledown, slightly disparaged her last season. He took it upon himself to find out Lady Whistledown’s identity, and somehow, he did. The only problem is, Lady Whistledown is not someone Sonya would consider a friend. He wanted to warn her about the dangers of being anything less than perfect around that insidious writer, and he didn’t want to waste a moment. He called on her to meet with him as soon as possible. He didn’t think they would be seen, but they were, and of course Lady Whistledown ran with it to discredit them in case they would reveal her.”
You suck in a harsh breath. “It was never anything wrong, then. He merely wanted to protect her.”
Newt nods. “Lord Aris is a good man. He never would have done something like this if he realized how it would backfire. He regrets it daily, even though all he wanted to do was keep my sister safe. The ton knows their characters, too. Neither of them would do anything unseemly. The rumors diminish by the day, and soon, it will all be over. They will be happily married.”
He sighs and looks at you again. “I tell you this to explain myself, and to clear my name. I have nothing to hide from the situation with my sister and her future husband. In fact, it is only because they directly asked me not to spread this information that I haven’t gone public with the identity of Lady Whistledown herself to spare their reputations. I have nothing to fear, my lady. Certainly nothing that would make me risk the happiness of my marriage on a good rumor. I would court you because I have never met anyone like you before, nor do I think I ever will. You are utterly entrancing in every possible way. If you do not wish to be with me in that fashion, I would understand.”
You shake your head quickly. “I do want that, my lord. I want you.”
A careful smile slips across Newt’s face. “Do you mean that?”
“I do,” you tell him. “I have wanted you since the moment I saw you at my presentation. I would have found you no matter what lies they spread.”
Newt grins. “I believe I have decided something important, my lady. About your inner nature.”
You arch a brow as he spins you. “And what is that?”
“You’re a hound,” he informs you matter-of-factly. “Sharp and bright. Brave, too. But, then again, I am a hound as well. We make quite the pair, I think.”
“I think so too,” you tell him. In the days to come, rumors will abound about the viscount and the duchess. At first, there will be surprise across the ton, but then, even the most tenacious of gossips will realize that this makes perfect sense. The most clever of men and the most ambitious of women, bound together in holy matrimony. Even the best of poets couldn’t concoct a story that beautiful.

WHEN YOU’RE BORN INTO THE LEES, ONE OF THE RICHEST FAMILIES OF THE CITY, YOU’RE UNDER EVERYONE’S EYES.
One mistake and you can dishonor your entire family line. That’s why they’re strict on you, the heiress of your father’s real estate firm. After your older brother Taeyong took over your mother’s hotel management business, monitoring all branches of such across the country and abroad, it’s a matter of time you take your place in the family.
After all, your future has already been pre-determined for you; from your career, lifestyle, and heck, even some of your friends. If they don’t pass mommy and daddy’s standards, might as well say bye-bye.
Standards ranging from having good grades, no nights out partying, no vices, dressing modestly, no cursing, and more, all of these things formed you into the good girl all throughout the city. You can never to disobey her family. So that’s how your life has spiral into for the past twenty-four years.
Not to mention attending Bible study every Saturday and Mass every Sunday, that’s the cherry on top on being an ideal woman in today’s society. That’s the thing when your family are diligent believers, praising for the Lord for His righteous acts for your family.
Or in other words, making your family richer and more successful each passing day.
As controlling it is, you never ought to complain. That’s the work of the devil, your mother says whenever she’d see your eyes fume from stress at times. Thus, you’re practically an angel to the eyes of the public. And no one would never second-guess your personality.
But boy, it’s always the good ones that shock the most.
“F-Fuck!” You gasp out, clutching on the edge of the table as a determined tongue swirls around your drenched womanhood. Such sensations are new to you, yet they’re so addicting. You can’t get enough, and never will any time soon.
How fast life runs when you’re merely skimming through your favorite Bible verses, reading them aloud with passion. Then in another frame, something else gets spread open with oozing content. How shy you became, yet didn’t refute and nodded to keep going. And poof, goes your beloved book in some random corner of the room.
“So sweet and innocent,” The man below you moans. “Your pussy is a dream come true.”
“Profani-Oh, God!” You try to call him out, but you’re dumbfounded when his slender fingers dart your hole back and forth. From the table, your fingers seek support from his brown locks.
“You were saying?” He peeks out from your floral dress, smirking. And god, it was the hottest thing your eyes laid on.
Lips puffy and dripping in your essence, he widens your legs more and continues diving in further. As soon as he finds that spot in you, nothing can hold your pleasure-building moans back. It’s something you’ve never felt before, or rather, something you should’ve saved for marriage. You’re doomed, or were you?
How can something so vulgar feel so heavenly?
“You may be religious to Him, and devoutly read the Bible, but you’re my religion.” He says in between lapping your clit and lower lips, slurping every bit of your wetness. “I lay my entire being for my one and only queen.”
Wetness he caused if not for his swoon-worthy charm and enchanting looks that makes you thank the Lord for bringing this man to you. Even if the two of you used to share judgmental looks out of generational hatred, love seeped its way through. And your heart cannot control who it wants to love, and same to him.
However, he’s poison to your life. If anyone in your family finds out that you’re sleeping around with the eldest son of your rival family, you’d meet your untimely doom.
But not only is he the eldest son, he’s also next in line of taking over his mother’s real estate company. Hence, spiking generations-old rivalry with your family. Aside of work, he’s your mother’s worst nightmare.
Massively notorious for his reckless behavior and the occasional scandals of his fights outside the bar with god knows who, he’s gotten away with it numerously because of his intelligence. You can only picture how dependent his parents are on him because his younger brother Sungchan is still in university, destined to inherit another family business. Other than him, there’s no more heir.
He acts like a God in this world, taking advantage of it.
Why? Because all he wants is freedom from everything. Even if he works hard and does his parts as an heir, he can’t commit to it entirely.
So he spits at anyone who gets in his way, always determined to get anything he wants. And easily, he does.
But that changed when you entered the picture, or rather reentered when he rejoined Bible study Saturdays 3 years ago. How pure you were then, leading everyone into prayer and such. How he loved riling you up to the point you blew up for the first time in a sea of curse words. How hard to get you were, even if you weren’t playing a game. How it took a single sweet kiss merely months after building a proper friendship, your first even. How such crazy lust and adventure rushed through your veins for more led to true, absolute love.
He corrupted you, but in the best way possible.
Jeong Jaehyun may be the owner of your undying affection, yet he remains your dirty little secret. And from all the years of your life, you’re choosing to rebel. It may be in private, but in time, it’ll break down its doors. Because you finally realized how you deserved so much better.
You are your own person, and you’re meant to make your choices. To be controlled like a puppet is not living, nor being tossed around as the good girl image. That’s the fault of your parents, pressuring you over and over again to uphold it or else the consequences will be grave. If not for Jaehyun, you’d never realize it. He too resonates with such thoughts, and the both of you ought to break the cycle of hatred when your time to rise in power comes.
After all, love makes you do risky things.
Just like this very moment in the Bible study room of the church, empty for the past hours.
After you and Jaehyun pretended to fight in front other rich, influential kids in the session, one of the nuns put you two on duty to clean up as punishment.
Little did they know, it was all an act so you spend more time with him. Yet it’s also a trip down memory lane of how your relationship began, when the hatred was real while working together only to be exchanged with developing love.
Lately, neither of your apartments are safe from the public eye, and motels are becoming risky to book. Vacation homes can’t be used either as both of your parents have CCTV access.
You’ll just have to make do. Anything for the love of your life.
He continues to be relentless in making you fall apart in his hands like glass, crashing blindly and powerfully. The gushing sounds of your pussy squelching and soaking his fingers, which he uses to lift up the hood of your clit.
Erect and puffy, his tongue aims to stimulate it the most.
Your throat runs dry and your thighs shake mercilessly from yet grind against Jaehyun’s satisfied face. Mascara-filled tears escape your lids, then your stomach can feel a knot ready to unwind.
“Jaehyun!” You almost scream as your mind only chant and think of him at this moment. Your hand fires up to your lips to avoid suspicion, and Jaehyun’s quick to notice muffled moans.
“Yah.” His pace slows down.
“Yes, Jae?”
“Let your hand go, or I won’t make you come.” He orders.
You’ve gone this far, and you won’t allow having your orgasm get denied. As much as you like to get your way always, sex would be the only thing with compromises. And Jaehyun has denied your orgasms numerously, so you’re at a loss.
“Sorry, baby.” You follow, lowering your hand.
He smiles from under your dress. “It’s okay, love. Now let me continue to feel good, hmm?”
Jaehyun’s the one who led you through the acts of sex. You can’t deny how intimidated you felt by that, but he’s never pressured you to do anything you’re not comfortable with. Step by step, you already know what’s it like having his fingers toying with your core while your hands and lips around his cock.
He’s a sweet and passionate lover, unlocking the door of the joys of being eaten out.
Double the penetration, double the speed of your orgasm. Jaehyun’s tongue and fingers are partners to this sexual deed, and you can only just anticipate what happens next.
“I’m so close…“ You choke.
“Let go, baby. You deserve it.”
Hard and breathtaking. That’s how your orgasm felt.
Your lips emit an elongated moan as you came in Jaehyun’s mouth. Your entire body shivers, sweating behind your gorgeous designer dress. How tainted it makes you feel, yet also heavenly. You say hello to the angels up there, who may only look down at you for your so-called “forbidden” deeds.
How you’re the forbidden fruit, and Jaehyun is one of God’s beloved children who lusted for it.
He hums louder to match your noise, bringing your thighs closer to lick your core more. Helping you ride out your high, your lungs heave hastily as if they ran a marathon. With one final kiss to your clit, he gets up from his knees and doesn’t waste a second to collide his lips with yours.
The taste of you lingers in every exchange, your arms naturally wrap behind his nape. His hands grip your waist, making your legs tangle around his lower torso. The two of you cannot simply get enough of each other, tongues clashing for dominance and filthy moans echoing the room.
“You’re such a good girl for me.” He says.
“Always.” You reply. “Only for you.”
“Not even for your family?”
“Except for my brothers, fuck them.”
Your making out session gets so heated instantaneously. It’s never felt like this before, and you cannot get your hands off Jaehyun. Whether it’s how good he is to make you come like that or his presence making you feel so at ease, you wanted more. Heck, you desired whatever this man can give you.
Or rather, you deeply desired him to deflower you.
“Jaehyun, I--”
“Yes?”
“I want--" Before you can continue your sentence, your phone beside you vibrates.
Calling: Demon Mother
“Oh, shit.” Your lips parts from your lover, while he keeps going by pecking your neck. You’re strict with lovebites, but it’s nothing too harsh.
For now.
“Be quiet.” You glare from the side.
He smiles sinisterly. “When am I not?”
Rolling your eyes, you tap on the green button on your phone. “Hello?”
“Where are you, miss? We have a dinner with important people in your father’s company in 3 hours!” Her voice booms through even Jaehyun get startled. Yet you’re used to it, and it sucks.
“It’s not easy to clean a whole room even with a partner, mom.”
“It’s not my fault you couldn’t keep your hatred from the Jeongs as discreet as us. We are never to go low and battle with such a scandalous family like theirs.”
You sigh. Even if it’s a fake fight, news got around quickly in your elite world.
“Anyways, I’m packing up and heading my way.”
“You better, or you’re gonna hear it worse from your father too.” She hungs abruptly, and you sulk on your position.
“Is she mad?” Jaehyun stands more upright, yet you don’t give him eye contact out of shame. “Talk to me, baby. Please.”
“You heard her, Jaehyun.” You say. “She dare insults the family of my lover, the one I can never shout my affections out to the world.”
“Angel.” A nickname he uses it when sadness overtakes your mind and soul. His hands cradle your face that shifts it so you can look at him. Which you do. “This is the kind of love we signed up for.”
“But I didn’t ask for this kind of life.” Your heart wrenches. “I want to be able to live and love freely. No prejudice nor judgement. Don’t you think God was cruel for this fate?”
Jaehyun sighs in agreement. Religion this, religion that. All his life his parents taught him that if he doesn’t follow his family, he disobeys the Almighty. Only to later realize that he was manipulated; brainwashed that his parents are on the same level as Him.
How wrong and immoral.
He may have lost his faith, yet it was momentarily restored when you waltzed into his life like a dancer. A couple of failed turns, only to transform into a beautiful variation.
“If there’s only one good thing He gave me,” You sense his calloused fingers brush over your frizzled hair, tucking them behind your ear. “It was you. His favorite angel.”
Your heart swoons while a tear freely falls down your cheek. “I love you, Jaehyun.”
“I love you more, (Y/N).” His lips kiss yours a little longer. It’s unpredictable when you’ll see each other again, or spend hours being by his side. And so you both savor every meeting, peck, touch, laugh, moment you have with each other.
Because things can drastically change in a heartbeat. At least for you, it did.
That very dinner later in the evening wasn’t merely to celebrate your father’s company ranking high up across the country. Defintely topping the Jeongs, which has been a long-term goal these past years. He speaks of merging companies with his colleague, the Kims. Much to your naivety, you’re the main pawn in his game.
“Be a good girl and follow daddy in this venture.” He speaks in his professional voice in his office, where you and your mother sit and listen. Sipping on his whiskey, he awaits your response. Good girls only talk when being spoken to, but it’s merely a façade now. A façade you acted perfectly in.
“How can I be of help, daddy?” How you wished you didn’t ask such a question.
“You’ll be marrying into the Kim family in the next couple of months, specifically their oldest son who’s bound to take over their company right after your wedding ceremony.”

Girl Of My Dreams - Chapter 45: Where's The Nearest Toy Store?
¤ masterlist ¤ 《 prev | next 》
Synopsis: Sakusa was the type to always get things done on his own, but now that he's forced to juggle between his successful pro-volleyball career and being a single dad, what happens when he enrolls his daughter in a new preschool and meets his daughter's new teacher? Will their relationship remain professional or will it evolve into something more?
After a few hours you finally pull up to what you assume to be his parents' home. Your nerves are starting to get the best of you, your mind beginning to run away from you. Is it really okay for you to be here? What will his parents think of you? His siblings? Oh goodness, did they even want you here? Are you inconveniencing them? Maybe you didn't think this through enough. Is it too late to cancel? Maybe you could book a hotel room and take the train back tomorrow? Before you can get more into your head, you hear your name being called.
"Everything is going to be okay Darling. You have nothing to be worried about. Okay? Kimi and I will be here with you." You glance up to look at Sakusa standing in front of you, eyes boring into yours with a reassuring smile on his face. You nod your head before he's leaning in to plant a quick kiss to your lips, the action easily helping to ground you. "Thank you." You whisper as he slowly pulls away. You watch as a smirk appears on his face, clearly enjoying how easily he can comfort you.
"Mommy! Daddy! Hurry up! Grandma said she made my favorite!" Your attention is brought to the little girl already at the front steps in the arms of a woman you know to be Sakusa's mother, the resemblance between the two absolutely striking. "We're coming, baby!" Sakusa responds as he grabs your bags and motions for you to follow. You're so nervous that you don't realize what Kimi had referred to you as, too busy focusing on not making a fool of yourself in front of his parents.
You watch as Kimi is being placed on the ground so that she could properly greet Sakusa. "Look at my son! You've put on some weight! It looks like you're finally eating properly!" His mom beams as she pulls him into a hug and plants a kiss on his cheek, giving it a quick squeeze before turning her attention to you.
"Oh! You must be yn! I've heard so much about you from Kimi and Kiyoomi! It's so good to finally meet you! Don't be shy! Come here! Let me get a good look at you." Sakusa steps aside to let you take his place in front of his mother. She places both hands on your face, the smile on hers growing wider. "Ah! The pictures they showed me don't do you justice. You're much more beautiful in person! No camera can capture your true beauty!" You feel heat rising to your cheeks not only being under her stare but also because of her compliments. Sakusa failed to mention that he'd talked about you to his parents, so you feel caught off guard, but in a good way.
You mumble your thanks, your face still being squished between her hands. You hear Sakusa clear his throat from beside you. "Mom, you're embarrassing her!" She clicks her tongue, a disapproving look pointed at him before finally releasing your face from her grip. "It's not embarrassing if it's true!" He lets out a sigh before quickly introducing the both of you.
"Where's dad?" He questions, trying to change the subject. "He went to the store, I forgot to get Kimi's favorite juice when we were there earlier and I didn't want my grand baby to be sad." Sakusa let's out a sigh, clearly not liking how his daughter is already being spoiled and it hasn't even been five minutes. Sakusa shifts from one foot to the other, bags knocking against each other, getting his mom's attention before she remembers that you need to put your things away.
"I wasn't sure if you wanted to share a room or if you slept separately. I've prepared your room for you Kiyoomi and the guest room for yn. You can decide your sleeping arrangements and I'll have Kimi help me set the table for dinner." You watch as Kimi's eyes light up, clearly happy to be able to help her grandma out. You both thank her before Sakusa is leading you up the stairs to your rooms.
-----
Sakusa leads you into the dining room, but judging by the delicious aromas wafting from the room and the laughter of Kimi along with her grandmother's, you would have been able to find it on your own.
"Mommy! Daddy! Hurry! I'm hungry!" Kimi practically squeals as you enter the room, your eyes practically bulging out of your sockets. You glance over at Sakusa, who's already looking over at you with fondness. You know you had the talk with Kimi about why she couldn't call you mommy, but with everything that's happened and what Sakusa had told you earlier, you can't help but become emotional.
"Why are you crying yn-ie?" You touch your face at her question, realizing that you are in fact crying. You turn to look at Sakusa who's already pulling you into a hug as you sob into his chest. You feel a tug on your pants, causing you to look down, and when you do, you see a concerned three year old looking back at you. "Is it because I didn't listen to you and I called you mommy? I'm sorry, I thought you wanted to be my mommy. But if you don't want to...that's okay too." You watch as tears pool in her eyes, watch as she desperately tries to stop the tears from falling by rubbing at her face with her tiny fists. Your immediate reaction is to pick her up and press her tightly to you, a hand running soothing circles on her back. "I do. I do want to be your mommy, baby. Of course I do. But do you really want me to be your mommy?" Your voice comes out a little shaky after having cried a few minutes ago.
She nods her head, a big smile already on her face. "Yes! You already do all the things my friends' mommies do for them. You take care of me, you buy me things, you give me all the hugs and kisses I ask for, you play with me, you make me yummy food, and you make daddy happy!" You listen as she lists off all the traits she thinks a mother should have and you can't help but feel your heart grow ten times in size. "You even scold me if I do something wrong," she pouts before adding, "but I know it's because you love me and you're worried about me!" You and Sakusa try to hide your chuckles, watching as her face brightens as her explanation ends. You let out a sigh before bringing a hand up to cup her cheek. "When did you become so smart? Hmm?" She grins before wrapping her arms around you and resting her head on your shoulder. "It's because you're also a good teacher, mommy." She mumbles into the crook of your neck, shying away from the looks everyone in the roon was giving her.
You turn to look at Sakusa who's just observing everything between the two most important people in his life, the hearts in his eyes giving away his thoughts. "Where's the nearest toy store? I need to see if they have that squishmallow she's been wanting, or better yet I'll just buy the whole store." You say which earns a chuckle from him.
You hear someone clear their throat, your attention being brought back to not only Sakusa's mother, but also who you assume to be his father, and his sister that you've seen pictures of. "Why don't we eat now that we're all here, yes? I'm sure you guys are starving from the drive here." His mother says while motioning for the three of you to take your seats. Sakusa leads you to a chair, helping you into the seat before he's taking Kimi and placing her in the chair beside him.
Dinner goes by quickly, conversation flowing easily the more you get to know his family. Kimi makes it known to everyone just how much she loves you and enjoys spending time with you, which you can only assume helps them take a liking to you faster. Before you know it you're helping clear the table before his mother and sister practically push you into Sakusa's arms. "It's about time for Kimi's bed time right? Why don't the both of you get her ready for bed and we'll take over from here." His sister says before ushering the three of you out of the room. "Mommy? Can you help me wash up?" You look over at Sakusa who's nodding his head. "I'll get her pajamas ready." You're sure that your cheeks will be hurting in the morning with how much you've smiled tonight.
I told y'all we were getting some fluff. Lol. Our little family needed a break!
Let me know what y'all thought in the comments or thru ask!

12 Days of Christmas Masterlist
Part 2 Here
Tumblr media
The Samuels family's Christmas is always a hit. Family comes from all over down to the small town of Leavenworth, Washington just to gather together for this holiday. This is where my grandmother and mother lives, keeping the roots strong. Although, we haven't really had a big family Christmas since before COVID hit, so this one is bound to be special.
Just a week ago, I completed a project for a high-paying client, affording me the luxury of having the entire week before Christmas off. Usually, I am booked up to my ears at this time, so I am grateful for the vacation. I got to the house late last night, and so far, only a handful of aunts, uncles, and a few younger cousins had arrived. As the sole young adult present, I find myself shouldering the full force of our family's 'charm'.
I wake up early this morning in my old bedroom, starting my day with a warm shower. Once I'm dressed and freshened up, I head downstairs, hearing some chatter. I greet my grandmother, who is on the couch, watching her shows. She is always excited to see me.
"Good morning, Grandmother." I say with joy as I give her a warm hug.
"Oh, my beautiful Mimi." She calls my childhood nickname, her hand reaching out to cup my cheek with a gentle tremor. "You are turning into such a beautiful and remarkable woman. I can't tell you how proud of you I am." Her eyes reflect pure love, and I can't help but return her smile. The connection between my grandmother and me is unique, given that I am her first granddaughter.
"Thank you, Grandmother. I'm so happy that I could get to come see you. I know I haven't been around as much since I moved to New York for work," I admit, a twinge of guilt behind my words.
"Don't you worry about that, dear. You're here now, and every moment with my grandbaby is a blessing," she reassures me warmly. "I think your mom and aunts are in the kitchen preparing breakfast. Why don't you go in and see how you can help?" She suggests.
With a nod, I rise from the couch, placing a tender kiss on her cheek before making my way into the kitchen. As I enter, the lively banter of my mom and aunts fills the air, mid-gossip in the midst of breakfast preparations. I'm embraced by the scent of bacon and brewing of coffee. The women pause their gossip for a moment, shifting their attention to me.
"Well, look who decided to get up bright and early!" My mom exclaims, giving me a quick embrace. "Here, you take over the bacon for me. I need to get started on the pancakes," she adds, directing me to her spot at the stove. My aunts greet me with a cheerful "good morning" before seamlessly resuming their conversation with my mother.
The kitchen was bustling with activity, filled with the savory aroma of the many dishes being cooked. The Auntie's hands are kept busy as they catch up on the latest gossip and I snicker to myself as I focus on my task. The house starts to wake up as I hear my little cousins stomping down the stairs, their childish giggles over the chatter of the rest of the family.
I'm lost in my thoughts when my attention is abruptly diverted by an unexpected question from Aunt Pat, who's currently cooking the eggs.
"So, Naomi, you got a man yet?" The other ladies in the kitchen fix their gaze on me, awaiting my response. I stammer for a moment but then decide to keep it light.
“Well, no. I’m not really focused on that right now,” I reply with a shrug, hoping they’ll drop The subject. They don’t, of course.
“Come on now. You not getting any younger.” Adds my aunt Tina. My mom gives them a disapproving look as she closes the fridge.
“Y’all, leave my baby alone. It is too early for this.” Mom defends, but they roll their eyes.
“We’re just chatting, Angie. Besides, don’t you want some grandbabies?” Tina asks, Aunt Pat nodding in agreement.
"Naomi can wait for the right man as long as she needs. Better that than popping out babies without a ring," my mom subtly throws shade, her lips pursed. Aunt Pat raises an eyebrow.
“You tryna say sumn, Ang? Cus' whoever I think you're talking about has definitely gotten married since.” She says matter of factly. My mom ignores her.
"And Tina, don't start on Mimi, what about Ashanti? She still don't got a man either. And she 'bout the same age as Naomi." My mom adds.
"My Ashanti is a famous and successful model. She is busy building her life right now and taking care of her business. Besides, she's seeing someone," Aunt Tina states, turning her nose up. Sensing that my mom is about to say something else, I decide to intervene.
"Let's all calm down. I don't have a man, so what? It's not the end of the world. And, for the record, I have a successful career as well," I declare, raising my hands in defense. Aunt Tina's comment lingers in the air like a passing storm, briefly unsettling the familial calm.
"Just saying, you're almost thirty. Time to settle down. And I'd hardly call those cute little drawings you do a successful career," she persists, earning a disapproving look from my mother. I clench my jaw, determined not to let the remark sting.
"But we'll drop it," Aunt Tina announces, attempting to change the subject. The kitchen regains its lively atmosphere as they return to their culinary duties. My mother shoots me an apologetic glance, understanding the delicate nature of the topic, but I reassure her with a soft smile. I've grown accustomed to my family's concerns about my love life, even if their ideas of success differ from mine.
"Where is Teresa, anyways? And James? I saw the kids last night, but I haven't seen them." I ask, looking at my Aunt Pat.
"Oh, they're upstairs sleep. They really got a handful with them kids." She explains, shaking her head. I laugh a bit.
"Well, it seems like I'm not the only one who needed this vacation. Hopefully we will all get to relax." I let out a sigh.
"Well, don't you worry, none. Ashanti will be here any moment! I know y'all always have a good time together." Aunt Tina says. I look at her out of the side of my eyes and give a fake smile.
"Oh, I'm sure we'll have lots of fun." I respond, trying to hide the sarcasm in my voice. As they chop, stir, and laugh, I find myself wondering what's to come of this trip. My thoughts go back to what my aunts said about my love life.
Even though I'm almost thirty, I've never been one to go searching for a man, much less settle for less than I deserve. My art, my "cute little drawings," as Aunt Tina put it, is not just a hobby—it's my passion. And while it may not fit the conventional definition of success in their eyes, it brings me fulfillment and joy. And I want that when it comes to love as well.
As I plate the last pieces of bacon and turn away from the stove, my phone rings. It’s my brother Daniel.
“Hey Danny.” I greet as I walk out the kitchen.
“Naomi! You already at mamas?” He asks me.
"Yeah, flew in last night. We're about to have breakfast," I reply.
"Bet, well, I'm on my way there, about nine hours out. Been on the road for a while. Just calling to let you know I'm bringing a guest." My interest piques, and I raise my eyebrows.
“Oh? Is it a girl?” I tease. I can almost feel him rolling his eyes at me.
“No, it’s not. It’s one of my colleagues who needs a place to be for Christmas, so I offered to let him come.” Daniel explains.
“Oh, okay. Just a heads up, the aunties are already in my business so make sure you got your shit together.” I share a laugh with him and, over the sounds of the road in the background, I can barely make out a second laugh. I choose to ignore it.
“Who knows, maybe my guest can help you get your shit together if you, uh, catch my drift.” He teases. I roll my eyes in return and give a sarcastic laugh.
“This is not about to be you tryna hook me up with one of your friends again. We both know how that ended up last time.”
“I know, I know. Don’t worry, it’ll be none of that, I promise. But don’t tell anyone I’m bringing someone. I want it to be a surprise.” He tells me.
"Sure, secret's safe with me," I respond, curious as to who he could be bringing.
"Alright, I'll catch you when I get home. Hopefully, everyone will still be up." He chuckles and I laugh along as well.
"Yeah, we'll see. Drive safe. See you when you get here." I say, before ending the call. As I hang up with Daniel, I can't help but wonder about the mysterious guest he's bringing. Returning to the kitchen, I start setting up the table as the delightful aroma of breakfast fills the air. Yet, my thoughts persistently drift back to the impending surprise.
A rhythmic knock echoes through the house coming from the front door, which promptly swings open.
"I'm hereeeee!" All of us in the kitchen pause to glance toward the entrance as my cousin, Ashanti, strides in. Draped in a fur coat and chic heeled boots, she's come with numerous bags.
Smiles light up the room, and everyone rushes to welcome her with hearty hugs. I hug her as well, but it's a bit stiff. Shanti and I grew up together and we used to be very close. But somewhere along the line, she started competing with me and it put a rift between us.
Amidst the flurry of greetings, I catch a glimpse of Ashanti's perfectly styled hair and the air of confidence she exudes. Despite the awkwardness between us, I manage a genuine smile, hoping that the holiday spirit will bridge the gap that has quietly settled over the years.
As the family gathers around, Ashanti unveils a cascade of presents from her bags. "Gifts for everyone!" she announces, and the room erupts with excitement. The children eagerly approach, but she urges them to wait their turn. The tension between us momentarily fades as the joy of the holiday season takes center stage. The gifts she gives are lavish and luxurious. As everyone gets their gifts, she saves the last one for me.
"And last, but certainly not least, this is for you, Naomi." Ashanti hands me a neatly wrapped gift. I smile and open it, eager to see what is inside. While I had no specific expectations, what I got is far from what I had expected. As I tear away the paper, I find myself holding what appears to be a Dollar Tree sketchbook, lacking the quality I might have hoped for.
"Oh, a sketchbook..." I attempt to conceal my disappointment, realizing she intentionally chose a less-than-impressive gift.
"No need for thanks! I just knew you'd love it. You know, with your little artsy thing you got going on. I figured it would be a perfect gift," she says, offering a feigned smile and a hug. Despite having plenty of similar sketchbooks, I decide not to grant her any satisfaction, accepting the gift graciously.
The room is still buzzing with the cheer of the holiday festivities, and as I hold the seemingly ordinary sketchbook, I take a deep breath, reminding myself that the value lies in the gesture rather than the material itself.
I manage a polite smile, masking any traces of disappointment, and reply, "Thank you, Ashanti. It's thoughtful." She beams, seemingly content with her choice of gift, and the tension between us lingers beneath the surface.
The following hours whirl by in a flurry of activity. I spend most of the day hanging out with my younger cousins, keeping them occupied while everyone else relaxes. It's a great feeling to be home and around my family once again, no matter how old I get.
There are a couple gifts beneath the tree and the fireplace blazes brightly. Grandmother, nestled in her recliner by the fireplace, skillfully crochets a blanket and my uncles huddle around the TV to watch a football game. Mom has just set out hot chocolate for the kids, while the aunties are talking with each other in the study. Ashanti is upstairs, probably on her phone or something. Meanwhile, I find myself on the couch, sketch pad in hand, allowing my creativity to flow.
The sun has dipped below the horizon and a flurry of snow blankets the world outside. I glance toward the window, crossing my fingers that the roads won't freeze over and that Daniel and his mystery guest will arrive soon. The children steal the TV, watching some cartoons while a few of my uncles head onto the porch for a smoke. This calm is one I've longed for over the years—it gives me a sense of nostalgia, sending me back to the carefree days of my childhood.
My cousin, Teresa, who was asleep all day, comes downstairs and sits beside me. I smile as I look up from my sketches at her.
"Hey, cuz!" She says, giving me a hug.
"Hey, you slept good?" I ask, giggling a bit.
"Girl, yes, it was MUCH needed. You really don't understand how much you miss naps until you have children." She sighs heavily and I nod sympathetically.
"Yeah, I figured when I saw James come down here and not you, you were still getting your rest." I say teasingly. Teresa rolls her eyes.
"Hey, those beds are comfortable." She retorts, defending herself.
"Well, at least now you get a break, right? You got some help." Teresa sits back and nods.
"I'm so glad to just be here. It's been a while since we were able to take a trip like this."
"Something tells me that this trip is gonna be one to remember." I say, mostly to myself.
"Well, I guess we'll just have to wait and see." Teresa says, before standing up and heading to the kitchen.
As time goes by, I hear the doorbell ring again. I remain seated, engrossed in my drawing. Mom answers and her sudden loud exclamation echoes through the house as she lets the visitors in. Intrigued, I look up from my sketches, wondering who it could be. I get up and walk over to the door, first seeing my big brother standing there. He's smiling widely as he sees the shocked look on Mom's face. However, as I approach, I see who she's really screaming about.
There, standing beside Daniel on the doorstep is none other than famous actor Michael B. Jordan. My jaw drops in astonishment as I can't believe my eyes.
"Danny, what is this? You didn't tell me you were bringing a guest!" She exclaims, the unspoken emphasis being, 'You didn't tell me that you were bringing Michael B. Jordan!'
"Just thought I'd surprise you, Ma. And Michael, here, didn't have anywhere to stay for Christmas. So I invited him to stay with us for the week. Is that alright?" He asks, sporting a sheepish grin. My mother stammers for a moment, caught off guard by this surprise. She glances at Michael, who presents her a giftwrapped bottle of expensive-looking wine, flashing that gorgeous smile of his. Still in shock, she stammers as he hands her the gift.
"Merry Christmas, Mrs. Samuels. I hope I'm not intruding too much." He gives her a hug, giving her a squeeze. My mother, still processing the surprise, hugs him back, her eyes gleaming with disbelief.
"Oh, you're not intruding at all! Well, welcome to our home, Michael!" She starts as he lets go of her and stands in the doorway. "We're honored to have you join us for Christmas."
"The honor is all mine." He responds. By now, news of Michael's arrival has spread through the house. Danny brings him in, brushing snow off of himself, and I catch his eye. He winks at me knowingly as our family rushes to greet Michael and take pictures. I smile and shake my head at Daniel. It seems his "colleague" was quite the understatement. My little cousins jump excitedly at meeting the man who played Killmonger and my aunties and uncles are chatting to him loudly, talking over one another.
I watch all the commotion with a smile, when I lock eyes with Michael. He looks as if he is gonna approach me, but he's stopped by Ashanti.
"Hi, my name is Ashanti! You look like you need a drink." She says, before grabbing his arm and leading him away from the lively group. I suppress a sigh of awkward disappointment as she shoots me a mischievous glance over her shoulder. Just then, Daniel drapes an arm around my shoulder, steering me toward the study for a chat.
"Daniel!" I exclaim in a hushed tone as a cheeky grin plays on his face. He simply shrugs, not making a response. "Daniel!" I repeat, this time playfully socking him in the arm with an excited smile on my face.
"Surprise?" He offers, having anticipated my reaction.
"How the hell did you manage to get Michael Bakari Jordan to come to the Samuels household?!" I try to contain my excitement, but my words come out with an unintentional squeal. He laughs, feigning pain as he clutches his arm.
"It's like I said. He didn't have anywhere to be for Christmas. I didn't tell y'all, but this last project I was working on was with Michael and it was set to go into the Christmas holiday. Luckily, we ended up finishing early. Michael had tried to plan ahead and sent is parents and siblings on a Christmas cruise so they'd still have a good time. Well, during the project, Michael and I talked frequently and he mentioned not having anywhere to go, so I invited him to come here." He explains. I'm still in disbelief.
"This is insane. I never expected you to actually bring him. And he's staying until Christmas?"
"Yep, so he gets the full Samuels family experience for the holidays. But, you should go out and meet him yourself, Mimi. Knowing Ashanti, she's probably talking his ear off by now." He pats my shoulder, and I take a deep breath before stepping out of the study.
My heart is racing in my chest as I walk towards the kitchen. I've been a fan of his for the longest and now he's in my house. I'm trying to think of what I'd say to him. I find myself, instead of going to meet Michael, pacing around the dining room away from everyone else. I'm not usually this nervous or shy. But something about this man just makes me go crazy.
"Come on, Naomi," I say to myself, rubbing my palms on my jeans. I pace a bit more before I shake my head at my ridiculousness. With another deep breath, I head out of the dining room and towards the kitchen once more. There Michael and Ashanti are sitting at the bar, engaged in a conversation. It looks as if Ashanti is just talking about herself and her many accomplishments while showing him her photos. As I get closer, Michael glances over and notices me, giving me that famous smile again.
"Hey, Michael..." I start, and he watches me, waiting to hear what I'm gonna say. I decide to just go for it. "Mind if I steal you away for a bit?" I bite my lip, avoiding Ashanti's eyes as she glares at me. The corners of Michael's mouth turn up as the sound of my voice reaches him.
"Well, actually, Nao-"
"Yeah, I don't mind." He interrupts Ashanti as he stands, grabbing his glass . "Thanks for the drink, Ashanti." He says, but she rolls her eyes as she watches us leave. We make our way to the upstairs common area and sit on the couch. Michael sits a bit close to me, draping his arm along the back of the couch as he gets comfortable.
"You know, I was just looking for an excuse to take a break from her," He says, leaning into me. "Thanks for rescuing me." I laugh a bit at his words.
"Well, I'm happy to help. I'm always willing to answer the call of a damsel in distress." I joke, trying to break the ice. He chuckles a bit.
"It looked that bad, huh?" He replies and I nod, overexaggerating it a bit. "Well, then I guess that makes you my knight in shining armor." He grins charmingly and I have to stop myself from melting.
"Ah, where are my manners. I'm Naomi, Daniel's sister. I would've introduced myself sooner, but you seemed a bit busy." I laugh nervously, struggling to sit still under his gaze.
"So you're this troublesome Mimi I've heard so much about?" Michael questions and I freeze, blushing in embarrassment. There's no way Daniel really told him about my nickname. I regain my composure and clear my throat.
"First of all, I don't know where this troublesome idea of me came from, cuz it's definitely not true." I retort, playfully turning my nose up.
Michael grins, his eyes filled with amusement. "Hmm, I don't know, Daniel talks about you quite a bit and based on his stories, you seem pretty troublesome to me." He leans back, a playful glint in his eyes as he observes my reaction. "But don't worry, I'm all for a bit of trouble."
I chuckle, feeling a bit more at ease with his easygoing demeanor. "Well, if that's the case, I hope you're ready for the full Samuels family experience. We're a handful, but it's all in good fun."
"So, Naomi," Michael begins, his eyes gleaming with curiosity, "Aside from being a troublemaker, Daniel tells me you're an artist."
I playfully roll my eyes at the "troublemaker" label. "Oh, yes, it's my favorite thing to do. I love to draw, paint, you name it."
"What would you say inspires you?" He asks, his expression showing genuine curiosity.
"I just feel like art is my way of keeping some semblance of sanity in this chaotic world, you know what I mean?" I explain.
"Yes, I know exactly what you mean." He says, nodding his head. "It must be a nice escape from the chaos of the world to be able to express yourself through art. I love listening to music; it helps me find clarity when my thoughts get too messy."
"I completely get that. And it's just a plus that I get to do it for a living." I say with a content smile.
"So being an artist is your full-time job?" he questions, his tone laced with intrigue.
"Yeah, at first it was a hobby, but it got so successful that I was able to quit my other job and do it full-time."
"An artist, huh? Anything I might've seen?" he asks, genuinely interested. I shrug casually.
"Possibly. I do commissions for all types of people, I've got a few pieces in the Brooklyn Museum, I also run an art page on Instagram, so maybe you've seen some of my art." I pull out my phone and show him my page. He takes the phone from my hands, scrolling and raising his eyebrows in surprise.
"These are amazing," he says quietly, clearly impressed. "Do you draw from real life often? It's so realistic and…detailed" He continues, running his fingers along my phone screen lightly.
"I'm experimenting with some other media forms, but yeah, all of these I painted from real life. Some of them even went for really high prices. My most recent piece went for $3,000. But I've been working on that one for months. It was a commission for the governor of New York."
"Wow! It's amazing. You got some serious talent girl!" He praises, giving me a high five. I laugh, blushing a bit as he compliments me. He hands me my phone back and pulls his out, going to my account on his Instagram and following it. It takes everything within me not to scream.
"Thank you. Art is just a huge passion for me. I love to make other people happy with it as well." I admit. Michael notices me blushing when it sinks in he just followed my account.
"Well, you've got a new fan." He says with a sly grin, leaning against my shoulder. "I might have to use your services sometime." He says, his gaze lingering on mine.
"Yeah, I mean, I'm down to make anything you'd like." I blurt out, before realizing what I'd just said. "I... didn't mean it like that." I let out a sheepish laugh and clasp my hands together. Michael laughs as well, but he really is just enjoying himself.
"How about you make a portrait of me?" He suggests, a hint of playfulness in his tone.
"When? Right now?"
"I'll leave it up to you. We got the next couple days." He reminds me with a wink.
"Okay, but you'll have to be on your A-game this whole week. Are you up for the challenge?" I question, matching his tone.
Michael leans in, his voice low and teasing. "I'm always up for a challenge, especially if it involves spending more time with someone as captivating as you."
I feel a flush of warmth, and I playfully roll my eyes. "Flattery will get you everywhere, Mr. Jordan."
He grins, unfazed. "Is that a promise, Ms. Samuels?"
"Absolutely," I reply, laughing a bit and enjoying our banter. Even though we've just met, it feels like we've been friends for a while. Michael takes note of the easy chemistry that we have, and that chemistry sets the tone for a vacation filled with shared moments and the promise of a memorable Christmas.
"Any other hidden talents I should know about, Naomi?" He questions me. Somewhere in our conversation, we've gravitated so close on the couch that there's no space between us. Yet, the proximity feels comfortable now, and any initial nervousness has dissipated.
"Well, you'll have to find that out, won't you?" I respond with a sly smirk.
"Oh, she wants to be mysterious now?" Michael chuckles, his dimples showing as he smiles at me.
"She does indeed. As you said, we've got these next few days. You'll just have to see for yourself," I reply, glancing at the clock to realize how late it has gotten. Most of the children have already fallen asleep, and the aunts and uncles have retired to their rooms. It appears that the family is settling down for the night. Michael and I exchange glances, acknowledging the quieting atmosphere around us.
"I guess it's time for us to call it a night," Michael suggests, a yawn coming from him. I nod in agreement, feeling a sense of contentment in the air.
"Yeah, it's getting late. Goodnight, Michael." I say, rising from the couch. Michael follows my actions and stands up.
"Goodnight, Naomi." He pulls me into a brief hug, and I reciprocate, my arms instinctively wrapping around his waist. After a moment, we separate, and I turn to make my way to my room.
"Uh..." Michael utters softly. "Which way is the guest room?" He asks. I smile and chuckle.
"It's down the hall, second door on the left," I reply, pointing him in the direction.
"Ah, okay, goodnight again." He says, before walking towards his room.
"Goodnight," I say softly, heading into my bedroom and getting ready for bed. I catch a glimpse of myself in the mirror and stare for a moment. Out of nowhere, I break out into a victory dance and squeal silently. I still cannot believe that Michael B Jordan is at my house, or that he's going to be staying here for a week, or that he might even like me! I take a deep breath and compose myself once more, worried I might wake someone.
As I settle into bed, the tranquility of the night wraps around me like a warm blanket. Reflecting on the unexpected turns of this day, I realize exactly how crazy this whole day has been. I can only hope that this isn't a dream. With a contented sigh, I drift off to sleep, eagerly anticipating the things to come these next few days.

Tumblr media
T H E   I N T R O D U C T I O N :
In a bustling city filled with skyscrapers and endless possibilities, a young boy named Izuku found himself living a life he could never have imagined. The city's heartbeat pulsed through the streets, and amidst the chaos, a sanctuary of love and compassion awaited him.
Izuku Midoriya was no ordinary child; he possessed dreams of becoming a hero, despite being born without a quirk. His determination to follow in the footsteps of his idol, All Might, was unwavering. But fate had more in store for him than he could ever have imagined.
It all began on a fateful day when tragedy struck. A villainous attack shook the city to its core, leaving destruction and heartache in its wake. Izuku's mother, Inko Midoriya, was a victim of the senseless violence, leaving her young son with a heavy burden of grief.
As the tears flowed and the world felt like a dark and desolate place, a beacon of hope emerged. A woman named (y/n), a successful businesswoman with her own company and immense wealth, was touched by the news of Izuku's plight. Despite her busy schedule and her demanding career, she had a heart that knew no bounds.
"(Y/n)" was no ordinary individual; she possessed a compassionate spirit that drove her to help those in need. She had witnessed firsthand the impact a tragedy could have on a child's life, and she was determined to make a difference in Izuku's life.
Upon learning about Inko's passing, (y/n) took decisive action, offering her support and assistance to Izuku. With her heart of gold, she made it her mission to adopt the grieving boy and provide him with a loving home. Though their backgrounds were worlds apart, their hearts were intertwined by an unbreakable bond.
Izuku moved into (y/n)'s luxurious penthouse, which overlooked the city like a kingdom of dreams. Despite her immense wealth and the countless opportunities at her disposal, (y/n) never let her success cloud her judgment or sense of responsibility. She understood the importance of humility and the need to give back to society.
From the very beginning, (y/n) showed Izuku the warmth of a mother's love. She encouraged his dreams of becoming a hero, never once doubting his potential. Izuku found solace in her presence, and for the first time in his life, he began to believe that he could achieve greatness.
As time passed, Izuku settled into his new life, surrounded by the finest comforts money could buy. However, it wasn't the material possessions that filled his heart; it was the love and care he received from (y/n) that mattered the most. She took the time to listen to his dreams, offering guidance and support as he navigated the world of heroism.
"(Y/n)" became not only Izuku's guardian but also his mentor, imparting valuable life lessons along the way. She taught him the importance of empathy, kindness, and giving back to those less fortunate. Despite her busy schedule, she always made time for him, attending his school events, cheering him on at his hero training, and being there for him through every triumph and setback.
In a way, Izuku saw (y/n) as his guardian angel, a guiding light that had entered his life during its darkest hour. He couldn't help but feel grateful and blessed to have her as his second mother.
As fate would have it, Inko had left behind a will, entrusting (y/n) with the guardianship of her beloved son. (Y/n) honored Inko's wish with unwavering devotion, pouring her heart and soul into ensuring Izuku's well-being and happiness.
Together, they formed an unbreakable family, forged not by blood but by love and the shared desire to make a difference in the world. Izuku knew that he was blessed to have (y/n) in his life, and as he looked to the future with newfound hope, he vowed to become a hero not only for himself but to honor the legacy of his birth mother and the guardian angel who had become his true savior.

Underneath the Stars
“So, accept defeat,” he urges.
“Fine. Tell me where the alpha centauri is,” she demands.
“What would my compensation be?”
“How about not making you walk the plank at dawn,” she scoffs.
“You drive a hard bargain, Princess. I was thinking less along the lines of not drowning and more along the lines of this,” he mutters as his hands reach to cup her full cheeks. They are warm under his palms, even against the biting gust, his thumb moves to caress her pillowy lips, eyes flicking down to her mouth landing on the crescent birthmark by her chin.

MASTERPOST | MASTERLIST
….
நீள்பயணம். Voyage. News had spread far and wide across the expanse of the empire about the Princess’ journey far East. Throngs of people gathered on the docks to bid farewell to her and scream out wishes of luck and fortune. It was a busy day, filled with fanfare from the subjects, priests blessing the vessel and ministers of court spewing out strategies whilst handing bundles of parchment of the meticulously crafted plans.
A journey always stirred up feelings of unbridled joy, especially since the aim of this particular voyage is to draw up a treaty with Handuman - three small islands that lie smack in the middle of a crucial trade route between the Cholas and Burmese. A tiny island kingdom that was a thorn on Y/N’s side for the past year; with news of shipment from Burma being pillaged and sabotaged at sea constantly thwarting her plans of bringing components of machinery to assemble aiding with agriculture. She put together a counsel which oversaw striking a peaceful agreement that would mutually benefit both nations, a long drawn process of negotiations with a vacillating King that finally culminated to this day.
A day where she set sail on a three week journey to visit the islands, attend a ball hosted in her honour, and cap it off with signing the treaty. Needless to say the kingdom was ecstatic with the promise of the Princess Royal bringing more riches into the land. All of Y/N’s voyages to neighbouring kingdoms resulted in astounding successes, so people did have a shred of doubt that this one would go south. At the break of dawn, the majestic vessel was filled with her entourage - guards, a trade minister, the guard captain who was responsible for her safety, the sail crew, two of her handmaidens, and her lady-in-waiting, Shobhita.
Shobhita has been by Y/N’s side since they were partnered together for dance lessons fifteen years ago. As kids, Y/N took it upon herself to teach her how to conduct herself properly in court. Despite not liking the bossy Princess Royal, things took a turn for Shobhita when some children of nobility made fun of her lineage - going so far as to calling her ‘murky blood.’ She had light blue irises and hair the colour of sticky toffee - resembling her overseas mother, far different from what everyone else looked like and that made her an easy target. Though Y/N was not around for the name calling, she personally gave the other kids a stern talking, going so far as shoving one them and getting confined to her quarters by the Queen Mother. The two have been thick as thieves ever since.
“Remember Y/N, you are representing our Dynasty from the second you dock there until you set sail,” the Queen Mother starts.
“I know. I know, grandmum. Best behaviour and all,” Y/N rolls her eyes.
“You know better than to roll your eyes at me?!?” The older woman narrows her eyes in warning.
“Have I not conducted myself well on my trips so far?”
“I’m not saying that you haven’t, but be wary. I’ve heard nothing but vile things about the Prince of Handuman. I’ve seen to it that your guards have been doubled.”
“Is that why I’m going there alone without any advisors? You know I can take care of myself-“
“I know you can,” the Queen Mother interrupts her. “Keep an eye out on all our girls.” She whispers, taking her palm in her hands and gives it a warm squeeze, before walking towards the chief.
When she gets a minute to herself, Y/N turns away from the enthusiastic crowd, gripping on to a wooden mast, she closes her eyes, picturing her garden. The patch of flowering shrub - right by her reading bench - which attracted the prettiest of blue butterflies. She feels the tightness in her shoulders ebb away, only to have it disrupted when she feels someone pull on her braid. She flicks her head around in annoyance to find her little brother sheepishly looking at her.
“What do you want?”
“You’re sleeping standing up,” Karthi notes.
“I was not. I was trying to relax,” she sighs.
“I’m sure that the vast blue of the water is relaxing enough. Never knowing what’s under the thousands of leagues under the sea. Maybe there’s a giant fish with razor sharp teeth as long as the mountains waiting to capsize the boat. Shame, won’t even know it’s coming in the dark of the night with nothing but pitch black in the horizon-“
“Shut up, Karthi!”
“Calm down,” he throws his hands over her shoulder, pulling her into his side. “You really think Dad is gonna let that happen to his favourite child. There’s no way this voyage was approved by him without contingencies for every single thing that could go wrong. He’s not gonna let the people’s Princess get lost at sea.”
“I appreciate you trying but it’s not helping. Why are you still here anyway? Didn’t Dad want you at the capital yesterday?”
“It can wait,” he shrugs it off. “I’m not going to leave without saying goodbye to my favourite sister.” He bends down to engulf his big sister in a hug.
“I’m your only sister,” she chuckles, swatting him away. “In other words you hung around for morsels of attention from Shobhita.”
“Give me some credit!” He says feigning being wounded. “I brushed my hand against her arm,” he whispers, pointing to his left palm.
Y/N shakes her head at the smirk that tugged at the corner of her little brother’s lips. They’ve had a crush on each other from when they were both old enough to understand what that meant. Being the daughter of a vassal king, who happened to be close friends with her father, it was agreed upon by the elders that Shobhita and Karthi were to wed. Though Shobhita was a Princess of a small hilly region in the dynasty, it was thought best by the parents to have her grow up in the palace and serve with Y/N as her lady-in-waiting to learn the ropes of handing the responsibilities that would fall on her shoulders once she married.
Right as Y/N was going to say something witty, their attention was pulled to the commotion at the gangplank. When Y/N peers over she sees Harry hold up his royal seal to the guards before lugging up his things.
“What’s he doing here?” Y/N asks her grandmother, but finds the Queen Mother cluelessly staring at her grandchildren.
“Your majesties,” Harry bows, and wordlessly hands the Queen Mother’s guard the parchment before it’s passed to the old woman.
His eyes flit over to Y/N with a small smile tugging but he finds her pointedly staring over his shoulder with a scowl. He frowns, did she forget our time at the docks? The last time he saw her was filled with fiery passionate kisses and sweet nothings. He didn’t expect the Princess Royal to throw herself at him in front of everyone but was he not warranted a polite smile.
“It’s from your brother,” the Queen Mother tells the siblings. “Looks like Harry over here would also be travelling with you.”
“What? Why?” Y/N asks, dreading the thought of being locked in close quarters with the spy.
“He wants Harry to accompany you and be added to oversee your guard detail along with the chief.”
“But that makes no sense, he’s hardly a guard,” she protests.
“That’s quite true, Princess but I do know a thing or two about fighting. The Crown Prince wants you to be protected, that-“
“I do not require your protection, Mister Styles,” she huffs, crossing her arms over her chest.
“The Crown Prince has spoken. His reasons are clear,” the Queen Mother tells Y/N firmly, handing her the parchment. “Harry Styles will be accompanying you.”
////
The texts spoke of the majestic wonders of the sea in all its boundless beauty, sailors talked about the vast bodies of water being their companion; the sea was glorified by almost everyone Y/N had met and even by herself - she’d allow herself to stand at the edge of the shoreline and daydream about what life on the other side of the water looked like. There was immeasurable poetry that was either written at sea or took place at sea, but what none of them talked about was what it did to your psyche. Four days of constantly bobbing about the tides, with nothing around but endless blue and a blanket of darkness at nightfall, not to mention the terrifying sounds that accompanied no visibility. She missed the feel of the earth beneath her feet, the smell of her freshly watered gardens, the buzz of bees, birdsong, the vivid colours of her flowers against the green.
She brushed them aside as champagne problems for the first two days but the confines of close quarters were slowly creeping up on her. It didn’t help that she was avoiding Harry on top of all this, so she’d holed herself up in her room with Shobhita working on a project for the gala that’s being thrown in her honour. That’s how she found herself standing at the stern, hands clasped firmly on the wooden banister, at an odd hour in the night. She had her eyes closed, not that it made much of a difference in pitch darkness as she felt the wind against her face. It was eerily quiet, yet noisy as the vessel zipped through the tides, and everytime she flicked her eyes open she would only stare into the vast expanse of the hazy abyss. An insidious fear crept in which made her bones tremble about the nightmarish creatures that would leap out from the water at any moment.
“Careful there, Princess, any more harder and you might splinter the wood,” Harry’s voice cuts through the silence, the teasing apparent in the undercurrent of his tone.
She blinks down at her the way her knuckles have gone pale from gripping onto the wood. Sighing she turns her head to the side, to catch a sweet smile painted on his face as he bows spitting out the formalities.
“Mister Styles,” she acknowledges him halfheartedly, turning her attention back to the abyss.
“Trouble sleeping?” He enquires, stepping forward but the guard captain steps out from the shadow, directly in front of him, blocking his path. Harry throws his arms up, pausing. “I don’t mean any trouble, Captain.”
“You may not approach her royal highness,” he warns, the captain towers over Harry.
“It’s alright, Captain. He may step closer,” Y/N says.
“Princess, no man is allowed in your vicinity without a chaperone,” the Captain reminds her, and it doesn’t escape Y/N, the way he flexes his mammoth muscles to intimidate the spy.
“He is no ordinary man, remember. The Crown Prince has instated him to oversee my guard detail,” she points out. “I think it is time he took over the watch. I have kept you up for three nights now, and it’s high time you get some sleep. You may retire to your cabin for the night, Captain.” She smiles, wordlessly thanking him for being diligent enough to follow her each night.
He nods, muttering something to Harry as he hands over his spear to him. He bids Y/N goodnight and disappears down to his cabin.
“Whew,” Harry breathes out in relief. “Thought I’d be tossed overboard. Thanks for the save.” He mutters, making his way to the banister, leaving a comfortable distance between the two in case the Captain decides to check in on him.
“Don’t go thanking your lucky stars yet, I can certainly see to it that it’s arranged,” she bites back at him.
“You’re angry with me,” he states, making her chuckle.
“Wonder what gave that away,” she mutters, directing an eye roll at him.
He ignores her retort and continues, “You’ve been avoiding me since the minute I came on board.”
“That’s two for two. Gee for a spy, you sure do have a knack for picking up on the fucking obvious,” she shakes her head.
“I don’t understa-”
“Of course you don’t,” she huffs out a weak chuckle. “Apologies start with an I’m sorry.”
“Princess-” he starts, running his hand through his locks. “Y/N, I don’t understand why you’re cross with me. Is it because I’m sailing with you unannounced?”
“God, you’re thick,” she lets out a weak chuckle. “A storm hit the coast two days after you set sail to Lanka, Harry. I didn’t know for weeks if Karthi got the message on time!”
“I’m a good spy, am I not? When have I ever faltered in keeping to your word? Prince Karthi reached the Port Palace two weeks ago, according to your word, did he not?”
“That’s not the point, you idiot!” She turns to face him. “I did not hear from you! I did not know if you made it there. For three whole months! I didn’t know what to think.”
“Oh.” His face reddens as warmth spreads across his chest. He doesn’t understand why but he feels his face split into a wide grin as he replies, “I was doing my job and protocol states that - .”
“And you rode off to Vikram up north,” her tone was still accusatory.
“I had to, Y/N.”
“Why? Why did you have to get to him with such urgency? Was it Karthi’s orders? Why was it so important that you come with me all this way? Don’t give me all that poppycock about me needing extra security. My brother and I trust the captain with our lives. He’s overseen our protection since we were children.”
“Vikram’s mingled with the close friend of the Prince of Handuman. He’s foul, according to his best friend’s admission. He hits women and beds them without consent. He has complete disregard for matters of the court and he is well known for schmoozing -”
“Why does that even matter?”
Harry lets out a frustrated groan, “Will you please just listen to me.” He continues when Y/N quietens down. “The royal astrologer had seen to it that your portraits were sent to all neighbouring kingdoms - under your father’s orders - for matrimony. Prince Vinay had come across it when you were liaising with them for the trade deal. He, um, publicly vowed to…”
“Vowed to what?” She implores when he trails off.
“I’m sorry for being crude but he said that he wanted to ‘tear off your clothes, pin you against his throne and thrust some obedience into you while the court watches.’” He takes in a long breath before he continues, “So you will be under his pinkie and he can boast that the great Chola Princess was another notch on his bedpost.”
Y/N’s face twists in disgust as she processes what Harry had just shared with her. “Vikram knows I can handle myself around such odious men. I have more protection during this trip than I ever had in my life. Why did he send you to supervise my security? You have no experience…”
“It was my idea actually. I asked him to sign that decree to let me join this company and this was the only way to not raise any eyebrows among our men. I know you can handle yourself around the Handuman Prince, but I would not forgive myself if something were to happen to you…” He pauses, eyes roaming around for any lurking shadows, what comes next is communicated in a murmur, “This could provide a perfect cover for a Chola spy to be digging around Handuman.”
“A cover for what?” Her eyebrows scrunch, mouth twisting down in displeasure of being kept in the dark.
“Too many ears around,” he reminds her. He interjects before she can protest, “You will be the first to know once I have evidence.”
They hear a heavy splash making the ship drag, and the two lurch forward at the sudden movement. Y/N gasps, grabbing hold of the bannister and tightening her grip as a strong hand wraps around her elbow and tries to pull her away.
Things feel dissonant for her, there’s a ringing in her ears that’s managed to make all other sounds feel like it’s echoing from deep inside a well, she feels her body spasm as she struggles to draw in breaths, like her throat has something blocking the way. Her vision fades around the edges making her scrunch her eyes shut, but that only makes the successive shallow drum of her heart louder. She can feel the way the boat has a pull under her feet, like it was lugging around something heavy as it resists the sway of the vessel. She’s experienced unease before, but this time was different. This uneasiness was not fleeting. It was a type of fear. Fear oozes from the centre of her bones, slowly following its wake across everything it could consume inside her being. Paralysing to her anomalous senses. “I knew it,” she whispers. “Consumed by the waters, of course.”
If this was how she was going to perish, so be it.
“Princess,” his voice is distorted and faint but she picks it up. “Y/N.” It’s louder this time, floating closer. “We’re fine.” She feels his arms tightening around her frame. “Y/N, look at me.”
////
Harry does not understand what’s happening. Once second, he hears the men throw the anchor into the water and the next Y/N’s crumpled over the banister beside him. She looks to be in pain, her face ashen under the silver beam, he tries to tug her back - away from the edge but she’s bolted, hunching over the banister. He tries getting her attention, but can hear her mutter something about being engulfed by the water and it all makes sense to him. Why she was so hesitant to get on his boat when they were at the docks, how uncomfortable she was sitting opposite him, what made her hole up in her quarters all this time, the way she was gripping onto the banister earlier. The ocean petrified her.
He understands why she was mad for not hearing from him sooner. He left right before a storm hit the coast, showering her in kisses and whispering sweet promises. Promises. Well, promise. He promised to be safe and he did keep up his word, and he left for the battle tents of the Crown Prince, like he normally would when his job was done. But things were not normal. They’d kissed. Several times in fact. And he’d confessed his fondness for her.
He never faltered in his duties, he’d kept them up this time too. He had not realised a duty had implicitly fallen in his shoulders to bear when their lips met. To let her know that he was safe and not taken by the treacherous waters of the stormy seas as she’d let herself imagine. She had been worried about him. He made her worry.
“We’re fine,” he reassures, moving closer to her, holding her close to him.
It takes him a few tries but he gets her to look at him and a few more to convince her to let go of the banister. Her quivering lips and glassy eyes pierce his heart, but he manages to get her to slump to the floor beside him. It takes her a long while to stop trembling but he tightens her torso to his side, hoping to instill some warmth into her.
“We’re fine now,” he reassures, squeezing her hands. “The men tossed the anchor overboard. That is what made us jerk forward along with the ship. It takes a while for the anchor to latch onto the seabed. They’ve retired to their cabins for the night. It’s just that. It has happened everyday since we boarded the ship. It will keep happening until we reach home. We will sail again just before the break of dawn. Nothing is wrong with the ship. We are not in the way of any harm.”
She nods as he continues, “I apologise for not letting you know that I had reached Lanka in one piece. I’m sorry for all the worry I have caused you. I never intended to. I promise to never make you fret again.”
“Okay,” she tells him in a quiet voice, closing her eyes, as she forces her shallow shuddering breath to regain its steadiness.
He looks around once more, making sure that they’re truly alone, before focusing on her blinking back her watery eyes. “Why did you agree to the voyage in the first place?”
“King’s orders,” she tells him softly.
“You’re terrified of the ocean,Y/N ,” he reasons.
“I have duties, Harry. I get to experience all the luxuries one can imagine, compared to all that-” she shrugs. “Champagne problems, I guess.”
Harry shakes his head, she says king like it wasn’t her father. He would never do something that he didn’t want to, no matter who’s orders. But it was important to the princess in front of him and there was no use trying to challenge that. This was her deal, and it only made sense that she saw it through - she owed her people that. Instead he picks a different route, one that would help him understand her better, “What’s got you this scared? I’ve never seen you like this before.” It’s true. She was the first Chola Princess to be trained in combat alongside her brothers - demanding her father that when it came to the worst, she wanted to defend her people. She did not want to be holed underground with other women of court or in a temple praying for victory. She was an excellent rider, often would compete in races and encouraged young girls to follow suit.
“I do not wish to say,” she says hesitantly. She leans back and scoots away, her face slowly regaining composure.
“I don’t mean to pry, Princess. I grew up sailing the waters, I understand not wanting to recount a time -”
“It’s not that. I don’t have a harrowing story or anything.” She adds the next part quietly, “It is risible,” and her cheeks heat in response. Harry quickly notes the way she blushes, making him smile down at her in endearment.
“I promise not to laugh. Sailor’s honour,” he crosses over his heart.
Y/N lets out a peeling giggle in response, “You’re no sailor, Harry.”
“Yes, I am! Was practically born on a ship, Y/N.”
“You were born on a ship?” Y/N asks, sometimes it felt like he knew more about her than she did him.
Harry shakes his head, “Was born in my mother’s cottage in North England.”
“Did you grow up there?”
He shakes his head again, this time quicker with a frown. “No. I grew up on my father’s ship. Back to what we were talking about; you can’t discredit me as a sailor.”
Y/N’s brows scrunch at the sudden pivot in the conversation, but she doesn’t press on further, opting to say, “I thought you were a spy.”
A warmth blossomed in Harry’s chest from the mocking undercurrent of her tone. He’s never had anyone volley a conversation with him, and it came easy with her. “I am more of a ‘Jack of all trades’ kind of person.”
“Ah, I see,” she chuckles, bringing her knees up to her chest and encircling her arms around it. “So a master of none?”
Harry laughs, a high pitched carefree one, “Better than a master of one.”
Companionate silence blankets around the two, Harry passes her his leather water flask - that was clasped to his belt - and she quickly drains it muttering a quiet thank you. Harry leans back on his elbows, looking up at the shimmering moon above, it’s lovely tonight, he thinks. He’s spent many nights in a bobbing vessel with nothing around but the moon as company but he doesn’t feel the familiar solitude tonight. There was no intolerable silence this particular night, just the tinkle of Y/N’s anklet and silent sighs that escapes her lungs. His gaze flits over to her cheek, smushed against her arm, her gaze is fixed on her fingers as they fiddle with the ornament. A simple gold rope with a small lotus motif made from three pink diamonds and an emerald, clasped around her ankle.
Her foot. That’s what caught his attention, not the precious stones, but the curve of the arch of her bare feet. He wonders if it would tickle when he runs his lips over them, as he slowly nudged her knees apart, the fabric slipping away, the way her anklets would tinkle over his shoulders in sync with his head between her thighs. He shakes his head, rubbing his face, shifting to conceal his hardening cock and shoots her a polite smile.
“Not knowing,” Y/N says. “I do not like the deep waters because I have no idea what’s underneath.”
“No one does, Y/N,” he reminds her.
“I know. It is uncomfortable to not know. It feels like I am at its mercy, with the currents that can drag me under in a split second, if I’m not careful enough. It’s vast, and we have not explored these territories. I met with this woman that studies living creatures, and she believes that there is a high possibility of colossal squids and fishes deep down. There are old sailing accounts and drawings as proof. You have seen giant sharks and whales, have you not?”
Harry nods, as she continues fidgeting with her anklet.
“Life began in the waters, Harry, and we hardly know a thing about it. We cannot survive diving the depths; we certainly cannot compete with the predators that we know of. Imagine being at mercy of something unknown. It is the biggest mystery known, quite possibly the worst because it takes up much of our planet and we cannot even begin to understand it. The ocean has had a longer time to evolve than us, and we know much of the sky than we do about what is below.”
Y/N looks up at him, chin resting on her arm, as she waits for a response. She feels a pang of regret opening up to him when she is not met with anything. You expect him to comfort him just because you kissed a few times, a voice rings in her head followed by her grandmother’s lecture of having one’s cards close to your chest. No royal ever spoke of things that frightened them, she never did either. So, why did she think this was a good idea? Her maternal great - grandfather, a Chera king, was thrown into the castle moat filled with crocodiles by his subjects. He was vain and cruel to his people - granted that could have been the reason - but it had been prophesied that he would meet his end by the scaly reptilians, so he rewarded people to poach every last one of them and had them all in his moat. Ironically, he actively participated in furthering his prophecy while trying to avoid it. People would not have picked death by crocodiles if they never knew about his irrational fear. The kingdom was in shambles for many years until the birth of her mother, which enabled them to forge an alliance with the Cholas through matrimony.
While the Princess was caught in her own dilemma, Harry had a similar one running through his mind. He wants to assure her how secure ships are. He wants to explain how when you’re in the middle of nowhere with dwindling supplies, you start to see and hear things that aren’t really there. He wants to tell her that worrying would do her no good, especially the things that were occupying her mind because they were simply out of her control. All of the things he’d come to learn from his father’s experiences and his own. She was right, they barely knew about the ocean, but it wasn’t something to lose sleep over. But he understands, Harry was also scared of the ocean as a child before he got used to it. This was Y/N’s first time, and fears aren’t supposed to be rational. It wasn’t far-fetched, she had her nose stuck in books for answers and was born into duties, which required she understood the workings of life. She prided herself for being a step ahead of people around her and to do that one needed control. But the moment didn’t call for revelations; she needed solace.
He gives her a sympathetic smile before going on to say, “I was scared of the endless ocean as a child too, especially at night. You’re right, we don’t know much about the sea but we do know a lot about the sky.
“Look up for me, Princess,” he continues and they both take in the twinkling dots in the blanket of the night.
“It’s beautiful,” she whispers, beaming up at the gleaming moon.
“It is. We’re so caught up by things around us, we often forget to look up. The sky's the one thing that will not change. The moon will wax and wane and the stars will stay right where they are, flickering, guiding us to shore. It helped to look up at the sky when I was scared or in trouble. To be reminded that in the grand scheme of things, my fears didn’t matter. For whatever reason, the cosmos flows through me and that would mean my existence is a marvel. Even for a speck - no bigger than a grain of sand on the beach - the sky has many wonders in store for me.”
She stays quiet, her eyes glassing over, blurring her vision. Harry quickly catches the stray tear from the corner of her eyes with the backs of his fingers. He coos, leaning over to brush his lips against her temple, “I apologise for saying something out of line, Y/N.”
“You're not out of line, Harry,” she hastily blinks back her tears. “It helps. Thank you.”
“You don’t need to-“
“I want to.”
Anyone else pondering their significance by looking out into the universe might end up feeling helpless, paralysed even, but she feels none of that. She was born into significance and her roles only cemented the burden of upholding the legacy of the Crown. So, letting herself feel like a mere speckle was liberating.
////
The days that follow the same routine - the Princess holes herself up in her cabin during the day with Shobhita. Harry’s unsure what she was up to - and formulating any judgement from the box of fabric spools one of the handmaidens carted into her room, and the occasional laughs from behind the door - he’s happy she was occupied. It was hard to catch a glimpse of her when the sun was shining; there were guard’s stationed outside at all times and he did not want to tick off the guard captain.
The nights. That solely belongs to the two of them. She would come out of her cabin two hours before midnight to catch some fresh air to find him softly smiling at her. He'd readily stand, at the ship’s bow, with a spear in his hand by the intricately carved wooden swan figurehead. Y/N had ordered the guard captain to retire at night, since he’d been stationed by her cabin all day. When he’d resisted - uncomfortable that the Crown Prince had instated a young man with no prior expertise as head of security- she’d gently reminded him that it was best for Harry to learn what guarding actually entailed in the safe confines of their ship. They’d spend the nights in each other’s companionship, Y/N’s heart swelled with Harry’s stories. Particularly the one of him as a boy, where he was convinced that someone had left a giant bunny up the moon. She looked at him endeared as he pointed out the outline of the rabbit in the dark markings of the full moon. It soothed her, looking up at the heavens with someone made her confining thoughts about the ocean melt away.
This night was no different, the Princess pads to her usual spot to find a blanket spread out with two pillows. Her eyes fly to meet him and he gives her the same smile he did every night, bending down to light the two oil lamps, illuminating the jade of his eyes. “Your highness,” he bows, stepping away.
She nods, shooting him a surprised smirk as she curls up with her book. Harry eyes the old parchment she unfolds, a star catalogue, and he can’t help the chortle that escapes his lips.
“Stop it, Mr. Styles,” Y/N shoots him a warning look, not wanting to draw the attention of the crew.
“I apologise, majesty,” he murmurs, but Y/N notices the mocking smile that paints his lips.
She pointedly ignores him with a roll of her eyes, as she focuses her attention on Aryabhata’s text in front of her. Harry had challenged her last night, and she was determined not to lose.
The crew had dropped the anchor and had retired below deck a short while ago, and Harry could not help but admire the furrow in between her brows as she concentrated. Harry had spent the last few nights pointing out different constellations that Y/N simply could not fathom. Harry was amused that it bugged her so much that she couldn’t map out the stars in the night’s sky with ease. Her anklet falls on the blanket, and he’s sure that she had loosened the clasp from how much she fiddled with it while reading. She sighs, turning her attention back to the gold rope, fastening it in place, making sure to press down on the hook.
“Rijl al-Qinṭūrus”, she reads out loud in Arabic after a long while, flicking up to look at the sky. The star map had a figure of a centaur and all she had to do was find the brightest one right at the bottom. Her head cranes to find the brightest spot in the sky - the alpha centauri.
The only problem was, there were multiple bright specks and she lets out a defeated sigh, pushing her hair back, “Fuck this,” she mutters.
“Not very royal of you, Princess,” Harry’s teasing tone floats over, she finds him slumped over the bannister looking at her.
“It is the brightest and biggest star to spot at night,” he reminds her.
She narrows her eyes at him, looking back at the star catalogue again, and slumps back in defeat. “There’s something wrong with this star catalogue,” she declares. “There has to be, Harry.”
“Or maybe you are inept at this,” he smirks, coming to sit beside her.
“I am not!” She protests. “The illustrations are misleading. None of the constellations look like this,” she points to the image of a centaur holding a spear on one hand and a dead goat on the other.
“That’s because it’s meant for people like you,” he chuckles.
“What’s that supposed to mean?” She arches her brow.
“Someone who learns from books. It only makes sense the catalogue has full fledged pictures of animals on there, otherwise it would be a mess of lines connecting one dot to another. So, accept defeat,” he urges.
“Fine. Tell me where the alpha centauri is,” she demands.
“What would my compensation be?”
“How about not making you walk the plank at dawn,” she scoffs.
“You drive a hard bargain, Princess. I was thinking less along the lines of drowning and more along the lines of this,” he mutters as his hands reach to cup her full cheeks. They are warm under his palms, even against the biting gust, his thumb moves to caress her pillowy lips, eyes flicking down to her mouth landing on the crescent birthmark by her chin. They hadn’t kissed since he’d left for Lanka and every night he’d spend in her presence, Harry’s mind could not stop drifting to the way her mouth pressed against his with urgency.
Y/N eyes flutter shut, leaning towards him, nudging his cupid's bow with her lips. Her mouth brushes his as she whispers, “Not before I get my information, spy.” She backs away, observing the way his pupils dilate under the soft buttery light.
“You can’t spot the alpha centauri-”
“I know, which is why I asked you.”
He rolls his eyes at her hastiness. “No one can, because it can only be seen from the southern hemisphere.”
“You tricked me,” she gasps.
He shrugs, as he tugs her to him, wasting no time in capturing her lips against his. It was more heavenly than he’d remembered. Y/N’s hands snake up to bury them in the baby curls at the nape of his neck, bringing him closer. She melts against his chest, curiously slicking her tongue against his lips, smiling as he parts his mouth for her. She tasted like the tamarind candy she loved. Harry drops one of his hands from her cheek, finding home in the curve of her hip. It’s heady, both greedily smacking wet kisses the curve of their jaw when they part to draw in air. Harry’s heart thumps loudly against his chest, sending him rhythmic reminders that he was twitterpated by the woman trailing her lips against the stubble of his jaw. Plebeians and royalty don’t mix, and on the rare occasion that they did, it never ended well. But until midday tomorrow - when they would reach the port of Handuman - she was just a woman, made from the same stardust as him, whom he wanted to keep melding lips with.

On a cold winter day in Wyoming, the young couple in their formal business wears stepped inside the elevator, pressed the button to reach the highest floor of the crystalline building. They're soon to meet and enter the office of Jacqueline Fontaine, mother of Alex Clarissa Fontaine.
"Looking handsome today, Nik. Like a real business man.", she praised Nik's new outfit. Both of them carried their wet winter coats in their arms.
"Have to look great if I want to impress your mom, right? And you look like a real business woman, rook.", he confessed to Alex who wore a light blouse, a black skirt and matching heeled boots.
"Thanks, Nik. My mother is a businesswoman, so why not show some respect, huh? She likes a formal dress code. Besides, don't forget to behave yourself too. The look isn't the only thing that matters."
"I always behave myself, rook. You sayin' this to me?? I'm a total gentleman. No big deal, relax. Let's just quickly make out a bit in the elevator before someone else enters it. Besides, it'll take time till we reach the top of the building. So why not enjoy a bit and loosen ourselves?"
"Niiiiiiik, behave. Not in my mom's office.", she rolled her eyes and he chuckled as she delivered a soft, playful punch on his shoulder
"Just kiddin', rook. Don't worry. But... You look so damn hot today that I would like to. Not my fault that you're ruining the gentleman inside me.", he mischievously smiled at her.
As the two reached the highest floor, they left the elevator and walked hand in hand towards the dark, wooden door with a metallic name plate on it. It said: Jacqueline Fontaine's Office (Accountant & CEO). (-> Pinterest moodboard here)
"We're here. You nervous?", she asked him and knocked lightly at the door.
"Maybe a little. Damn, she's a successful business woman. She must have high standards and I... Now, I’m really nervous to meet your family. What did you tell your mom about me?"
"Uhhh, that you're a hot police officer. I mean... I couldn't tell her that you're a nighthunter, right? The supernatural world must be a secret for the safety of both worlds. And umm, a police officer seemed to be the closest related to your job, right?"
"Guess so. Hey, why isn't your mom opening?"
"Hmmm, guess I didn't knock loud enough or she isn't here.", Alex wondered and decided to open the door herself.
With Nik close behind her, she stepped inside the office where her mother was sitting at her large desk, but she wasn't alone. In front of her were her clients who were probably discussing a business matter with her. Alex's mother was surprised when she suddenly saw her daughter in front of her. The mother wore a light blouse and a short, black skirt. Earrings were hidden behind her black, shoulder-length hair. Her fair skin was covered with make-up. For her age, the woman has definitely held herself good.
"Alex??! Dear, what are you doing here all of a sudden? I'm having a very important business meeting. Very important, dear.", she signaled to leave.
"But... But you wanted to meet us and..."
"Later, darling. Later, not now. Wait in the hall for me. And next time, you better knock before entering.", she stood up and ushered her and Nik outside of the room to leave. The door got closed in front of the two.
"Damn, that was... rude. Rook, didn't you inform your mom that we were coming? Was there an exact time planned or..."
"Shut up, Nik!!! Quiet!!! I'm super annoyed and disappointed right now!!! And of course, I informed her!!! The fact that she's the one who invited us.", she faced him with anger which made Nik worry.
Of course, she wasn't mad at him, but somehow he felt hurt by her harsh words like shutting him up. They rarely had a fight and if they were arguing, then it was often how overprotective Nik was or how Alex put herself into danger again.
"I... I'm sorry, rook.", he looked away and both took a seat on a nearby couch in the waiting area. For a few minutes, it was total silence between the couple. Nik waiting for Alex would calm herself down. When he finally looked at her, he saw her wrapping her arms around herself and rubbing them against her body while closing her eyes.
"Rook, are you okay?", he got worried and moved closer for a hug.
"It's cold. I hate winter."
"I was born in winter."
"I hate the winter, not you. I'm sorry how I yelled at you. Now please, take me home."
"But we just arrived in Wyoming, rookie. The flight took five hours and... Who told you to wear a skirt? Suffering for fashion."
"I know, I know, I regret that too. Let's... let's go to my home in Wyoming. My mom's home. Let's take our luggage back from the reception downstairs and go.", she finally opened her chocolate-brown eyes to meet his.
Tumblr media
After the young couple in their winter coats collected their luggage from the receptionist who was so kind to take care of it, so they didn't have to carry or roll it around. She also handed Alex a mysterious envelope and gave directions to the nearest bus stop.
Both put on their winter gloves while they waited for the bus outside in the cold until it arrived. It was already full of passengers, so they had to stand and hold on tight. The gloved hands tightly wrapped around the holding loops as their bodies were pressed at each other's.
"Why's the bus so full?", Alex got upset.
"Hey, cheer up. At least you're stuck here with me.", he tried to lighten up her mood, and removed his hand from the holding loop to hold her which made her smile.
After a short drive, Nik and Alex arrived in front of a nice family house. It was a sturdy two-story residence designed with a wide garden, large balconies, a screened-front porch, and a free-standing garage. A few CCTV cameras guarded the property, but that wouldn't stop Alex from entering her own mother's home where she spent most of her childhood.
"Nice place, rookie", he let a low whistle out while he inspected the property.
"Oh yeah? Wait till you see the penthouse my adoptive father gifted my mom on their anniversary. Now would you come over here and give me a lift?", she requested while trying to reach the nearest window of the house.
"Uhhh, where are the keys?"
"I don't have the keys, Nik. I gave them back to my mom after I decided to move out, silly.", she giggled and desperately tried to reach the open window but failed. Instead, her heeled winter boots made her slip, but Nik quickly managed to catch her and prevent her from falling.
"But Alex, we can't just break in like this. That's illegal and right now your mom might be seeing us through these cameras she has placed around the house while sitting in her office. And the neighbors..."
"The neighbors know me unless they're new. Besides I'm Jacqueline's daughter, so everything that belongs to her belongs to me. Well, maybe not everything, I think. But don't worry if the cops arrive, I'll talk to them. So could you just real quick climb through the window, enter the house, and open the front door, please? I'm freezing."
"But your mom wouldn't be impressed by me. She'll hate me. I want to show her my best side, rook. I can be a true gentleman too."
"Would a true gentleman let a lady freeze in the cold outside?"
"Okay, fiiiine. I'll try that, for you. I may not like it, but I'll try it."
And with that Nik began to climb a tree near the building and slipped through the nearest open window inside Jacqueline's house. It would have been much easier if he wasn't wearing the nice, formal clothes and the new winter coat that Alex bought him for this trip. When he finally landed on stable ground, he searched for the light switch in a dark room. When he found it, he turned on the light and discovered that he was standing in a kitchen.
"Guess Jacqueline is expecting guests today.", he wondered as he saw preperations for food and beautiful table decorations on the table.
Without losing any time he began heading towards the front door of the house to quickly let Alex inside. Poor girl must be already freezing outside. As he moved his hand towards the handle to finally open the door, he froze. He heard a clicking sound appearing from outside and the door lock began to move.
"Damn, someone's opening the door. Alex's mom is here!!! I'm doomed. I'm soooo doomed. Worse gentleman ever. She caught us and she'll..."
"Who caught us?"
"Alex?!!! How did you?", he couldn't believe his eyes that the one who was opening the door was Alex. She's alone. Nobody was standing behind her and she was holding the keys of the house in her hand.
"Nik, I just remembered. Mom did give me the keys to her house!! Remember the receptionist? Mom delivered her second key through the receptionist to me. That's what was inside this envelope the whole time. Mom just texted me, she'll stop here by later.", she victoriously smiled while holding the key in front of Nik's face.
"I can't believe you, rookie. You're full of surprises.", Nik akwardly ran his hand over his hair, took the luggage from her and carried it inside as she closed the door from behind. Both rub the dirt away from their boots on the rug, get off their winter gloves and hang their coats on an empty standing clothes rack.
"Yup, sorry that you had to climb. Now we're inside, so we can relax a bit. I'll show you the house."
"I already saw the kitchen. What I'm interested to see is your room? I bet it's upstairs.", he grinned, left the luggage in the hall and already sprinted upstairs.
"Don't you dare, Nik!!!", she quickly followed behind him to catch him.
"Stop me if you can, rook!!"

"Holy light... So much... pink?", his eyes got wider as he stood inside Alex's childhood room and analyzed his surroundings.
The children's room was still in good condition and looked very cozy. The pink-painted walls were decorated with pictures and posters of flowers and majestic horses. Even the blankets, pillows, and sheets on the bed were pink. Almost everything was pink, white, and lavender colored. Soft plush animals were lined up on the bed. A white plush kitty, a pink plush bunny, and more little cuddly friends.
Nik moved closer to a book shelf, bending a little down to inspect the books. Children's books about princesses, fairies, unicorns, and other fairytales.
"I always dreamed to be a fairy, talk to animals and save the world.", Alex leaned against the doorframe and explained. Her eyes shimmered with happiness as she got reunited with her past and the beautiful, old memories she had as a little girl.
"Well, your dream came true. You're partly fae. Royalty and with your powers you can do anything. Even save the world."
"Yeah, somehow you're right. Just the fairy wings are missing. I wish I could fly."
"But you get to fly on a dragon in the fae realm."
"Hmm... Well... I also dreamed of a prince. My dream prince, a prince charming who will take care of me, make me happy and shower me with love. Just like Prince Phillip and Princess Aurora from Sleeping Beauty. But instead, I got the Prince of Swords. I got you, Nik. And I wouldn't trade it for anything because I love you just the way you are.", she happily confessed, moved closer to him, and rested her arms around his shoulders while he pulled her even closer till their lips were about to meet.
"You're truly a beauty, Alex. I love you too and I'm glad you came into my life. You're... you're so damn perfect. You're gorgeously beautiful, my princess. No, you're my Queen.", he got closer and moved his arms around her waist. His cheeks leaned to hers as he planted a kiss.
"Oh, Nik...", she leaned closer to him and grabbed the black tie he was wearing. Nik Ryder looked like a handsome gentleman today. Since she saw him in this formal suit. Well groomed and the masculine smell of his long-lasting perfume which she couldn't resist, so she started kissing him.
"Careful, I don't want to be covered with red lipstick marks. Your mom wouldn't...", he tried to warn her, but didn't pull away. He couldn't resist her either. He wanted more and closed the distance between them. He is all over her. His arms are around her and his lips seeking her's. She couldn't resist and he couldn't resist. The two of them are locked in a passionate embrace, feeling the hot closeness of their bodies, and enjoying the sensations the other evokes. Lost in that moment.
Yet it’s not enough, and Nik was feeling it too. He eventually broke away from her and looked deep into her chocolate-brown eyes.
"I don’t want to talk anymore," he confessed intensely and led her to the bed. "I want you, Alex. I wanted you before too. Now. Here. With me."
Soon enough, both tumbled onto the bed and proceeded to explore one another, discovering which touches were the most pleasing. Nik was everything she fantasized he would be and equally committed to giving pleasure as receiving it. Alex didn't care anymore that she was lying with Nik on her large childhood bed. And surprisingly it was enough space for both of them.
Together they stoked the fires of desire until neither of them could bear it anymore. They came together again and again. The feeling of being as one is all-consuming and they almost lost track of all time.
In the end, both let the waves of pleasure cascade over each other and then collapsed into one another’s waiting arms.
Nik looked into her face, his eyes slightly wide and an expression of almost awe on his face. "You're so… incredible."
"So are you, Nik."
After an intimate moment and some kisses, they finally pulled away from each other and headed back downstairs.
"Alex, you're so smokin' hot. I want you to seduce me. Let's... let's... let's continue this later.", he whispered.
"Nik, you're being so naughty right now. In my mom's house? Where is your gentleman's behavior now?", she giggled and gave his shoulder a soft punch.
"I have fallen under your spell, my beautiful Queen."
"Yes, my King."

After Alex showed Nik the rest of the house. Both entered the living room at last where they were greeted with a small hiss. On a nearby shelf, there was a small, green snake in a terrarium watching them which made Nik a little nervous. Jacqueline's pet snake, Slitter.
"Guess, it doesn't like us. Very typical. Slitter only likes my mom and nobody else. Still wishing it was a cuddly kitten or bunny instead of a snake."
But Nik got busy admiring the family photos hanging on the wall. The young people in the picture were looking so happy. A happy family. A family he also wanted to have and share his childhood and memories with, but unfortunately he lost his parents when he was way too young. Then, his eyes fell on the tiny, silver-haired girl in the picture smiling.
"Rook, you look cute. And your silvery hair...?"
"Yup, that's me standing with my mom and my adoptive father in front of the Christmas tree. We celebrated Christmas every year together here and I got a lot of presents. I miss those times because now we barely have time for each other. Always busy with business and work. And, yes, my silvery hair... Nobody believed me that it was my natural hair color. That I was born with it.", she answered while trying not to get too emotional in the sudden flow of memories.
"Silver. You got the black hair from your mother and the silvery-white from..."
"My dad, Elric. Yes. Yes, I figured it out too. Later when I found out about the existence of my father. I... I still can't believe how my mom hid this from me. She told me that after my birth my father died and...", she almost cried and felt Nik's arms around her body trying to comfort her.
"Shhh, I'm here Alex."
"Oh, Nik... I..."
"Alex, my dear.", a sudden voice appeared which made Alex and Nik turn around to see.
"Mom??!! You're here??!! Since when? We didn't hear you coming.", Alex panicked just as Nik and both separated from each other's embrace. Nik's cheeks turned softly red out of embarrassment and secretly hoped that Jacqueline didn't find out about his and Alex's doings upstairs.
"Misses Fontaine, it's a pleasure to finally..."
"Alex, I just entered the house and I already heard everything I needed to know. So you found out about the secret of your biological father? Oh, of course, you would one day, especially when you decide to stay in crazy New Orleans.", she interrupted Nik to explain herself.
"Mom, why?"
"To protect you. That's all, to protect you!! New Orleans, is that crazy place... Kristin and you just had to go there to celebrate your 25th birthday. Dear, you have no idea what I have been through all. Nothing is as it seems there. It's dangerous and New York isn't safe anymore either."
"Mom, you know... about the supernatural world?"
"Don't say anything more. I don't want to think or talk about this matter right now. You're the only person I care about and have left in this world now with the recent death of your adoptive father. I love you and I don't want to lose you too."
"Not when she has me.", Nik confidently stepped closer to Alex and embraced her and gave Jacqueline a reassuring smile. Alex's mother easily forgot her worry and smiled at the man.
"You must be Nik, my daughter's boyfriend? You seem aware of this world too. I hope you will keep my child safe."
"Of course, I'll take care of Alex. I'll protect her and always be by her side. Nothing will harm her on my watch, I swear. And yeah, I am aware of the World of Night. I lost my parents at the hands of monsters. They got killed in front of me when I was a child. I was the only one who survived.", he felt to explain his matter towards Jacqueline even though it hurt to bring back old memories.
"Oh, I didn't know. Poor Nik child, I'm so sorry to hear. Alex and I will be your family from now on. Besides, we're not actually here to remember the past. Let's focus on the future. I'm Jacqueline Fontaine, the beautiful mother of my beautiful Alex. Please, take a seat on the couch in the living room, I'll bring something to eat. I made you two some hot chocolate too."
"No need for that, we'll have together dinner anyway. Thanks for this invitation, Misses..."
"Just Jacqueline would be fine. Please note these formalities with me even though I am a successful businesswoman and accountant. Such a gentleman you are, Nik. We're family and with Christmas just around the corner, I'd love it if the two would stay longer with me till the holidays end. I never thought I would feel so lonely.", she confessed which surprised Alex.
"What if you get busy with work again?", Alex asked.
"Dear, family comes first and I should have realized that years ago. I'm sorry what happened today in my office, but my client... well... he wasn't easy to handle. But I feel so ashamed that I couldn't give you the time and attention you deserved since you were a child. That your adoptive father had to look over you because I couldn't. You're my everything and the only thing I have left now. I might have not liked suddenly being pregnant and I wasn't happy, but your adoptive father supported me. He helped me by giving you a chance and I don't regret it. I love you, Alex. I love you so much, darling. You remind me of your father, Elric. I still love him and I hope he hasn't forgotten me."
"Oh Mom, love you too. I thought... I always thought I'm not good enough for you.", Alex crashed into her mother for a hug while tears welled up in her eyes.
"Shhh, my darling. Quiet. You're here now with me and I'm glad Nik brought you to me. I'm thankful for you. I'm thankful for having you with me, sweety.", Jacqueline whispered and moved her eyes towards Nik. The man was silently standing in front of them and then left to give mother and daughter some privacy.
"Mom, there's one thing you should know... I personally met my father, Lord Elric in Lamrian.", she confessed which surprised Jacqueline because she would never have expected that.
"How did you find him so easily? Or how did he recognize you? Is he okay?"
"He... He... He died, mom. I just found him and then I lost him. We only shared a few hours, but they were beautiful ones. Truly the best.", she sniffed.
"No!! No... It can't be... How could this happen? He... I still love him and I can't believe he's gone. I should have visited him, but I was such a coward to face New Orleans again. Poor Thalissa.", she deeply regretted and wiped her tears away.
"Mom, Elric sacrificed his life to save mine from a bloodwraith. If it wasn't for him, I... I would probably be dead already."
"A bloodwraith? That's impossible!! How? Don't return there any..."
"That's okay, mom. The bloodwraith got defeated and everyone is safe now. It's safe now. And Elric still loved you and shared beautiful stories and compliments about with me you. He still remembers you.", she reported which gave Jacqueline a positive and warm feeling. That the kindest man who ruled over her heart still loved her, even though she already moved on with someone else.
But there was also more to share. That Jacqueline's daughter, Alex was not only a half-fae but also the next heir of Lamrian and that she unlocked her magic powers with the help of Lord Elric. She can do magic. Maybe she'll tell this Jacqueline another time and not everything at once. Besides, it was time to let her mother explain how she got plunged into the supernatural world. What's her story?
When she asked, Jacqueline's expression turned bitter and she decided to tell this another time. Not now. Now it was time for joy, to have a great family bonding time, and get to know her daughter's boyfriend better. She called Nik back and all three were seated on a fluffy sofa in the living room, having hot chocolate to drink and stories to tell. Jacqueline excitedly showed Nik her family album and pointed at the pictures.
"This photo was taken by Alex's adoptive father after Alex was born in the hospital. The nurses were so amazed that she had so much hair already. Ooooh, look how cute my baby looks wearing a gown in that picture. Like a mini-princess.", she enjoyed Nik's company.
"She was a cute child indeed and she's still beautiful."
"Thanks to my fae genes.", Alex added.
"Right, that's my baby girl. The prettiest baby of all. Such a natural beauty. When she sleeps, she's basically a Sleeping Beauty. Oh, have I told you the story where we were traveling to Dubai and how she played with her mouth out of boredom because we had to wait? I don't know if it was Dubai, but definitely somewhere in that region. She made that weird noise which made the police officers laugh and then, they let us enter first. Ha! Or the story where she was wearing squeaky shoes in the supermarket which irritated the customers who were trying to find the source of that noise? Ooooh, I have another story where little Alex stole a high heel from a shoe shop."
"Mooooommm??!! I was sitting in a baby stroller. It happened by mistake.", Alex freaked out a little which made Nik laugh.
"A high-heel for a baby??!! Hahahaha!!! Didn't know you were a huge troublemaker since childhood, rook? Jacqueline, Alex hasn't changed a bit. Still the same cute and naughty girl. A total trouble-maker."
"Nik!!! Very funny. Laugh how much you want. Mom, tell him the whole story like you told it to me. I picked up the high-heel to play with it in my baby stroller. You didn't notice till we got home and went back to return it.", she explained.
But Jacqueline was too excited and continued with Alex's childhood stories and showed several pictures. Baby pictures, pictures when her daughter was a toddler, and school pictures till teenage life.
"Nik, isn't my Alex so beautiful? I hope my grandchildren will also be lovely babies like Alex.", she said which made Nik and Alex turn red. Nik immediately tried to change the topic and pointed at another picture.
"Uhhh, well... I... Oh wow, Alex was a cheerleader at high school? How athletic. That might explain some of the moves she got."
"I was doing martial arts as well, Nik. When I was a child before joining high school.", Alex proudly added.
"Hey, did you make that weird noise with your mouth again? The one you did in front of the cops? Could you show me that, please?", he smirked which made Alex a bit angry.
"Nik, you...", she hissed as he made fun of her.
"Alex, behave yourself!! Nik was just being friendly. He's my guest. Be nice to him.", Jacqueline wished.
"Sorry, Alex. I was just enjoying your childhood stories."
"Wait till I ask anyone about your own embarrassing childhood stories, Nik. Or anything spicy."
"Who will you ask?", he raised an eyebrow.
"Oh, I'll figure it out somehow.", she confidently smirked at him and winked. Sweet revenge as they say.
After an eventful evening, the three had a delicious dinner together in the dining hall. Nik already knew secretly what food Jacqueline cooked for them since he was the one who climbed up the window which led him to the kitchen.
As the cold winter night descended, they were all getting ready for bed. Jacqueline requested Alex to sleep in her childhood room and Nik in the guest room before she went to bed. The young couple kissed to have a good night to each other before heading towards their rooms. After all, they agreed to stay with Jacqueline till Christmas to make the lonely woman happy.
"You know Nik, when my mother said that you're our family now... I think she already accepts you as her son-in-law.", she giggled, ran away and left him alone, wide-eyed with an open mouth.
"Alex! Hey, come back here. Youuuu... Wait till I find you under a mistletoe, you little troublemaker."

After Christmas...
"Oh Tonya, my friend, this year I had a wonderful Christmas. I celebrated with my daughter who I hadn't seen for so long. Today she's leaving with her boyfriend, but she promised to visit again and call me more often. And I will definitely visit her too and perhaps stop by to see you too, my friend. I'm just so glad to be united with her again. All our misunderstandings are gone now. How were your holidays, Tonya?", Jacqueline was talking with an old friend from New Orleans on the phone while admiring the decorated page her child created for the photo album with the title "Alex's Winter in Wyoming with Nik."
In the meantime, Alex and Nik were outside to enjoy the winter weather. Both were standing in their ice skates on a frozen lake and holding each other's hands, as Alex was trying to teach Nik how to ice skate. She was an excellent skater and wanted Nik to have some winter fun and try something new.
"Nik, you're doing great. Try to hold... Woaah!!", she fell on Nik as he suddenly lost his balance and crashed with her on the ice. Their faces were near as Alex was lying on Nik.
"Sorry rook, I..."
"Shhh...", she got closer to him until their lips met each other's to a passionate kiss.

The dinner was thankfully a success. Even though you kept feeling like someone could tell what you had been doing in the library, apparently you were less obvious than you thought.
Which was a shock, to be honest.
You were more than aware that you were following every single rule your mother had taught you about hosting a dinner party throughout the evening, almost mimicking everything you had seen her do back in the day she would host her parties, but that seemed to have worked in your favor, as bittersweet as it was. Each of the guests had so much fun that when it was time for them to leave, no one was aware of just how late in the evening it was.
But no matter how busy you had made yourself, the longing was there. From the pit of your stomach spreading through your whole body, a fire burning so strong whenever you dared lay your gaze on him.
A shiver went down your spine as the memory of his kiss on your lips shot through your mind, but you took a deep breath and followed the maid to Cecily’s room.
“Thank you,” you told her when you reached the door and Lucie looked at you.
“My lady, should I wait here?”
“Oh no need Lucie, you can spend time with your friends if you’d like. I’ll just send for you when it’s time to leave,” you said and the maid opened the door for you. You stepped inside and Cecily jumped on her feet.
“Y/N!”
“Oh I have so much to tell you!” you said, rushing to hug her and she wrapped her arms tight around you before pulling back.
“So do I,” she said. “But first, you must let me assure you what I heard Lady Miriam said is a complete lie. I would never, ever use you to get closer to anyone, or—”
“I never believed that,” you waved a hand in the air and followed her to bed to sit beside her before reaching out to clasp your hands with hers. “There’s nothing anyone can say to make me doubt your sincerity or your friendship.”
She let out a breath.
“Thank God,” she said. “I…I was worried.”
“Don’t be ridiculous Cece,” you said with a laugh. “I learned not to give any attention to gossip at a very young age, you know that.”
“I’ve read some of it from Whistledown and learned the rest from maids, you must tell me everything.”
You fixed your hair in an exaggerated manner, making her scoff a laugh.
“She was vile,” you said. “But I think you will be happy to hear that Elias no longer courts her because she insulted you.”
Cecily pulled back slightly. “I’m sorry, what?”
You nodded, grinning wide. “I told you that you hold his affections,” you insisted as she blinked a couple of times, a sad expression crossing her beautiful features. “Besides, Lady Miriam might just be the worst person I’ve ever met in the ton so far, calling you…” you trailed off and Cecily looked almost distracted for a moment.
“Calling me what?”
“You don’t need to hear it, it’s just a mean comment made by a very arrogant woman.”
“Y/N,” she insisted. “I must know, come on.”
You rolled your eyes. “Do you promise you will not get upset over it?”
“I do not care what Lady Miriam thinks of me,” she assured you and you clicked your tongue in annoyance.
“She called you a social climber and for that she was punished, by me and by Elias just the other day.”
Cecily shook her head. “I’m grateful that you stood up for me, but you didn’t have to. Half of the ton thinks that.”
“Half of the ton is wrong.”
“My family…” she trailed off and stole a look at you. “I should’ve told you this earlier but we’re quite new to the ton you see. My grandfather won the title in a very lucky card game and everyone knows that.”
You shrugged your shoulders. “It’s beyond me why people seem to care about these matters, honestly.”
She blinked a couple of times. “You do not care?”
“Well anyone who cares about that is a fool and seeing that I’m quite smart, no I do not,” you stated, and she let out a breath, then pulled you into a hug again, making you giggle.
“Oh Cece, forget about Lady Miriam, I must tell you about last night’s dinner!” you said, pulling back. “I think I made quite the host, -well, I was mimicking mother to be honest, but it worked! Guess what Lady Bridgerton said to me at the end of dinner, when we were in the drawing room?”
“You should marry my rake of a son even if you deserve better?”
A laughter climbed up your throat. “No!” you said. “She said there was a moment she looked at me during dinner and saw my mother. It’s the greatest compliment for me.”
Cecily awwed. “I mean we already knew she liked you. She put you on top of her oldest son and heir’s marriage list after all, and she was friends with your mother and… she must like you a lot.”
Your heart skipped a beat and you nibbled on your lip.
“Now that you brought it up,” you murmured. “About Anthony—”
You were cut off when someone knocked on the door and you heard Hugh’s voice. “Cece?”
“Come in Hugh!” Cecily called out and Hugh opened the door to step in.
“Oh I didn’t know we had a guest,” he smiled as you waved at him. “Have you come to further our courtship, Lady Y/N?”
You let out a laugh. “You see right through me, Lord Trenlove.”
Hugh’s grin widened before he turned to Cecily.
“I wanted to see how you were,” he said. “Have you made a decision yet?”
“What decision?” you asked, looking between them and Cecily took a deep breath, running a hand over her face.
“That’s why I said I had much to tell you,” she muttered. “An hour before you got here, Mr. Randolph came to visit me and…proposed.”
A gasp left you and you covered your mouth, shaking your head.
“No no, Cece—you turned him down, did you not?”
“I didn’t say anything,” she said. “I told him I would give my answer on Monday.”
“But surely you will reject?” you asked, nervousness churning your stomach and Cecily offered you a sad smile.
“I think considering everything, I will accept.”
You gawked at her, almost frozen. “But you can’t accept, you don’t love him!”
“I can’t ask for love in my situation, you know that,” she said. “He would make an adequate life partner and…I will try to be happy with that.”
You shook your head again and jumped on your feet.
“Adequate life partner?” you repeated. “That’s what you want for the rest of your life? Struggling for happiness?”
“Y/N, you are my dearest friend,” Cecily said. “But you have to understand that our situation couldn’t be more different from one another. I do not have the luxury to look for love.”
“But you love my brother.”
“Your brother is a future Duke,” she said, her voice cracking before she cleared her throat. “I do not live in a dream world, I know it would be naïve of me to hope for anything, no matter what I feel for him.”
You swallowed thickly before turning to Hugh. “And you’re alright with this?”
“It’s not like there are proposals raining down on this house, Lady Y/N,” he stated. “Besides, what I’m alright with does not matter. It’s completely Cecily’s choice, not mine.”
You pursed your lips, your thoughts like a storm in your head as you took a deep breath, then looked at Cecily.
“You said you would say yes on Monday?”
“That’s correct.”
“Don’t leave the house,” you said, walking to the door and Cecily stood up.
“Y/N, what are you doing?”
“I must hasten a plan,” you called out and stepped out of the room. “I will be damned before I let either of you marry anyone you’re not in love with—Lucie! We’re leaving!”
                                                 *
You already knew Elias was at the Bridgerton house so when the carriage stopped in front of the big house, you all but leaped out of it, Lucie following you in a haste. You figured that the etiquette required you to greet the lady of the house first so when the maid let you in and the butler announced you, you went straight to the drawing room.
“Y/N!” Lady Bridgerton smiled wide when she saw you and came to hug you, “What a wonderful surprise.”
“Thank you Lady Bridgerton, I hope you do not mind. I just, I knew Elias was there and you said I was welcomed anytime—”
“Of course you are!”
You waved at the Bridgerton siblings in the living room. Anthony was nowhere to be found, but Benedict, Colin, Daphne and Eloise were there. You got momentarily distracted and awwed at the baby playing with his toys right beside Daphne, and Eloise tilted her head, staring at you.
“Why do you look breathless?”
You tried to focus. “I more or less ran up here.”
“Oh dear, I’ll have the maid bring you some tea.”
“No thank you Lady Bridgerton,” you said. “I’m actually here on a mission you see.”
“What mission?”
“To kill my brother,” you said and looked around. “Is he here by any chance?”
Colin and Benedict exchanged glances and Eloise scoffed a laugh.
“The amount of murder mentions in this house by you two is very entertaining, must be a family thing.”
“Eloise!” Daphne whispered and she shrugged.
“What? Over two months ago Elias was talking about killing Anthony.”
“What happened?” Lady Bridgerton asked and you heaved a sigh.
“He’s ruining his life and his future happiness,” you said. “He is in love with Cecily but—”
“Wait what?” she asked. “He’s in love with Miss Cecily?”
“Yes. Very much so.”
“I asked him before I made his list, he said it was just a rumor.”
“It’s not,” you and Eloise said at the same time and Lady Bridgerton heaved a sigh.
“That boy…” she murmured. “He is in love with Miss Cecily and yet he’s courting others?”
“Thanks to encouragement from Anthony,” Benedict pointed out and Colin huhed.
“Didn’t he change his mind the other day?”
“He changed his mind too late, I’d say.”
“And now Cecily might marry Mr. Randolph.”
“He proposed?!” Eloise asked and you nodded with a solemn expression.
“She says she will accept because she doesn’t believe Elias loves her.”
“Unbelievable.”
Lady Bridgerton heaved a sigh.
“Bring him here, I’d like to have a talk with him,” she said. “He’s with Anthony in his study. Second door, downstairs.”
Oh.
Oh right, they didn’t know you already knew very well where his study was.
“Thank you,” you said and rushed downstairs straight to the door of Anthony’s study before you opened it. You were so angry and in a hurry that you couldn’t even let yourself be distracted by Anthony, instead you went straight to Elias.
“Good afternoon Chérie, I didn’t know—hey!” Elias was cut off when you grabbed him by the arm to pull him out of the room. “What on earth is happening?”
“I’m going to kill you but Lady Bridgerton wants to talk to you first, so you get to live a bit longer,” you growled as Anthony frowned in confusion but followed you two upstairs. You all but shoved Elias inside and crossed your arms.
“Go on, explain yourself.”
“I would if I knew what I’ve done,” Elias said and Lady Bridgerton raised her brows.
“Why did you not tell me you were in love with Miss Cecily?”
Elias’s jaw dropped and he turned to you. “You tattled on me?”
“Not only that, I’m also going to kill you after you’re done with that conversation.”
“Elias.”
“Well, I—” he stammered. “Anthony said—”
“No, you’re not dragging me into this.” Anthony cut him off before he could even finish his sentence and you pursed your lips, glaring at Elias.
“After I got the list, it made me think about my responsibilities.” Elias said and Lady Bridgerton sighed.
“Elias love is bigger than any list,” she said. “You’ve found it and you’re willing to let it slip through your fingers because of the ton’s expectations?”
“Exactly, thank you!” you motioned at her. “I’ve been telling you the same thing for what, weeks now?”
Elias heaved a dramatic sigh. “You don’t understand the kind of pressure the ton can put someone under, Y/N.”
Your head shot up and Anthony looked between you, raising his brows while Daphne’s jaw dropped.
“Oh I’m sorry,” you said. “I don’t understand the kind of pressure they can put someone under, did I hear that right?”
“Alright, let’s just—”
“What else have they been doing to me ever since I arrived here?” you asked, “What kind of a fool are you, honestly? Did mother rock your cradle too close to the wall when you were a baby?”
Elias ignored Benedict’s silent laughter while Colin tried to keep a straight face.
“I know they also put you under a lot of—”
“No no, stop retreating that statement,” you said, taking a step towards him and he instantly stepped back, making Anthony scoff.
“Elias, she’s your sister and she reaches your shoulder on heels, what exactly do you think she is going to do to you?”
“I still have scratch marks from that one time I ate the last piece of strawberry cake when she was seven, she turns into a rabid cat when she’s angry,” Elias retorted. “She used my own arm as leverage to reach up to my hair to pull it—”
“Well first of all, you know how much I love strawberry cake so if anything, that was your fault,” you said, barely able to control your voice. “Second of all, I hope you’ve had your fun being a complete idiot and wasting time here and ruining your life, I hope that was worth it—”
All of a sudden, you noticed Anthony’s amused smile along with everyone else in the room watching you and you looked around.
“What?”
“Is that your real accent?” Eloise asked with a grin. “Why have I never heard it before?”
“It…it slips when I raise my voice I think.”
“Say ‘worth it’ again.”
“Eloise!”
“What, it sounds cute!”
“It’s not cute, it’s like the bell of a city before it goes up in flames,” Elias stated. “A warning sign if you will.”
You pinched the bridge of your nose. “I’m going to set you on fire, how about that?”
“Alright, no one is harming each other,” Lady Bridgerton said. “But you must tell Miss Cecily how you feel.”
“She would never forgive me. I wouldn’t.”
Benedict cleared his throat. “Yeah, she might not get the chance if you waste any more time.”
“What is that supposed to mean?”
You shot him a look and crossed your arms. “It means that while you were wasting time here being a complete and utter fool, Cecily is planning on marrying Mr. Randolph.”
Elias’s head snapped up and he gawked at you, his mouth agape.
“…What?”
“Yes. He proposed today, she will say yes on Monday.”
Elias let out a breath, then walked to sit down on the sofa as if he couldn’t stand any longer. Digging the heels of his hands into his eyes, he just stayed slouched before Lady Bridgerton reached out to touch his arm.
“Nothing should stop you from pursuing her if she holds your affections, you know that.”
“They would tear her apart,” Elias murmured. “You know that. That kind of pressure—”
“Will not matter if you two love each other. So do you?”
“Of course I do,” Elias dropped his hands. “Beyond words.”
“I don’t know if it makes any difference seeing that you’re adamant in ignoring me, but she loves you too,” you said, making him turn to you with wide eyes.
“Did she say that?”
“Well while you were ignoring her for Lady Miriam—”
“May she rest in peace.”
Anthony pulled his brows together. “Lady Miriam is not dead Eloise.”
“Might as well be, socially speaking.”
“Cecily was crying her eyes out while you were ignoring her for Lady Miriam, Elias,” you insisted. “Surely there’s a reason behind that, which I’m guessing is love.”
“You didn’t hear this from me, but Cecily called you the most handsome gentleman in the ballroom for the same reason, love must be blind indeed.” Eloise stated and Daphne scoffed.
“Or are you blind by any chance? How did you not see how she looks at you?”
Elias took a deep breath as he shook his head, then jumped on his feet. “I—I can’t let her marry anyone else.”
You threw your hands up. “Dear God, finally!”
“I will ask her to marry me today, I will go to her house—wait, what if Trenlove is there?”
“It’s his house and you have to talk to him first anyway.” Anthony reminded him and you frowned.
“No he doesn’t, he needs to talk to Cecily first.”
“He needs to talk to her brother first.”
“But what if her brother says no?”
“He needs his approval, they can’t get married otherwise.”
“What?” you exclaimed. “No! No, that cannot be how it works.”
“That’s exactly how it works.”
“Well then it shouldn’t, viva la revolution—you know what you should do?” you turned to Elias. “You should go to Gretna Green.”
Anthony shook his head fervently. “Do not go to Gretna Green.”
“You should elope!”
“Do not elope.”
“Who cares what everyone else thinks?”
“You, Eli. You care what everyone else thinks.”
“You will be a duke in the future!”
“That is exactly the reason why you can’t get married in Gretna Green, don’t even entertain that idea.”
Elias’s gaze went between you like watching a tennis match while you glared up at Anthony.
“What are you doing?”
“I was about to ask you the same question, why are you trying to ruin his life?”
“Ruin his life?” you repeated, “I’m trying to save it!”
“By telling him to go to Gretna Green?”
You let out a furious breath.
“You know, you seem to have a lot of audacity and too many opinions about this situation considering this whole mess is completely your fault—”
He tilted his head. “It’s not my fault.”
“It is! You went behind my back, you sabotaged my carefully prepared plans,” you counted with your fingers. “And now if God forbid Cecily says no because of her broken heart—”
Elias held his breath. “Wait, do you think she will say no?”
“She won’t say no Elias, your sister has carefully prepared plans.” Anthony deadpanned and you narrowed your eyes.
“I did have plans and everything would have been so much easier if men with titles weren’t blind when it comes to love, present company included—”
“I can’t believe the ton thinks you two are courting,” Colin’s voice stopped your bickering, making you both turn to him. “Lady Whistledown must be blind.”
All of a sudden, you were way too aware of the whole room’s gaze on you two. Eloise only grinned with Benedict while Daphne kept her eyes on you with her brows raised. You didn’t even dare look at Lady Bridgerton and a fire spread over your face before Elias spoke, obviously too distracted to even notice what was going on.
“Jesus Christ, I don’t know what I’m going to say,” he said and you waved your hands around.
“You can practice with me! We can act it out, here; I’ll be Lord Trenlove.”
“Is this really happening?” Benedict mused and Daphne shushed him. Elias took a deep breath and threw his shoulders back.
“Fine. Lord Trenlove, I came to talk to you about—”
“My dear sister Cecily, the kindest and nicest lady in the ton.”
“…Yes, her.”
“I just have one question for you, young man.”
“Young man? Trenlove is my age in case it has escaped your notice, Y/N.”
“I imagine him as older and wiser in this act and shush, you’re distracting me. Tell me, are you in love with her?”
“Yes I am and—”
“Then voila! I approve completely.”
“That is not what he is going to say,” Anthony said with a chuckle he couldn’t seem to stop, making you shrug your shoulders.
“It’ll be something similar.”
“Not really. I think he might actually punch him.”
You gasped. “He will not punch him!”
“He might,” Benedict said. “He did look very angry at you back at that ball.”
“I’d look out for his hands if I were you Elias,” Colin added and you made a face.
“He’s not going to stand in the way of true love, no one could!”
“Alright, we’re doing this again,” Elias said. “Anthony, you can pretend to be Lord Trenlove this time.”
“I’m not doing that.” Anthony scoffed and you pulled your brows together, blinking up at him. Anthony’s gaze stopped on you for a moment, a fond light crossing his eyes and he heaved a sigh as if he couldn’t believe himself, then motioned at Elias.
“Fine, go ahead.”
Elias cleared his throat. “Lord Trenlove.”
Anthony nodded at him, his arms crossed. “Marquess Westcliff.”
“I came to talk to you about your sister Miss Cecily.”
“I see.”
“I want to ask for her hand in marriage.”
You made a face and looked between them while Eloise covered her mouth, trying to hide her laughter.
“Alright, I think we should first talk about the marriage settlement—”
“Wh— no!” you exclaimed, flailing your arms around in a ‘stop everything’ motion. “That’s not romantic at all.”
“And why would he try to be romantic with her brother, exactly?” Anthony asked you, making you huff out.
“They will tell all about this day to their children one day, that’s why!”
Elias took a step back upon the mention of their children, rubbing the back of his neck. “Dear God, this is happening.”
“Don’t listen to either of them, it will all be alright.” Lady Bridgerton said and Anthony rolled his eyes.
“Listen to me, you can do it,” he said. “Eli, you’re the future duke of Avon.”
“Yes,” Elias nodded fervently as if trying to encourage himself “Yes I am.”
“You will walk in there, talk to Trenlove, then you will go to Miss Cecily and ask her to marry you straight and to the point—”
This time, you weren’t even alone in your protest, both Eloise and Daphne had already joined you in a chorus of “No!”
“What again?” Anthony asked, exasperated and you motioned at Daphne.
“Daphne, you are married and in love. Is straight and to the point romantic?”
“Not at all.” Daphne stated and you took a deep breath.
“Elias listen,” you said “You can do what Lord Bridgerton told you to do when talking to Lord Trenlove. I admit I haven’t seen how marriage settlements are prepared so he might know more than me in that regard.”
Anthony’s brows furrowed and turned to look at you better. “Might?”
You shushed him, waving a hand in the air. “But you're about to proclaim your undying love for Cece! You can't be straight and to the point.”
“A poem could help you maybe, she likes poems.” Eloise mused and Daphne thought for a moment.
“You should get flowers too on your way there.”
Elias nodded with an excited smile on his face. “I think I will get down on one knee, do you think she would like that?”
“You’re not getting down on one knee Elias, why on earth would you—” he was cut off when you reacted almost automatically, reaching up to cover his lips with your hand without even thinking about it while keeping your gaze on Elias.
“Flowers are a good idea, I’d love to get you a book on love poems but we cannot lose any more time in case Cecily changes her mind, and yes you should get down on one knee,” you said and stole a look at Anthony who was just watching you with his brows raised, so you instantly dropped your hand. Thankfully, Elias was lost in his own world so he didn’t even pay attention to that, but for some reason you were sure no one else in the drawing room would miss it.
And yet, Anthony didn’t even seem to mind that, if anything he looked almost entertained.
“I’m going to ask her to marry me,” Elias nodded to himself and took a deep breath. “I’m going to do it.”
“Yes you are.”
“And you will be so very happy!”
“I’m going to marry the love of my life,” Elias breathed out and swallowed thickly before snapping his fingers at you and Anthony. “You two are coming with me.”
Anthony frowned. “Why?”
“Moral support on the way there,” he said and fixed his clothes. “Come on, we’re leaving.”
He whirled on his heels and left the room with Anthony following him after a shake of his head, and you took a couple of steps to the door before the thought hit you and you turned around to rush to Lady Bridgerton.
“Thank you for your hospitality, Lady Bridgerton,” you said, excitement laced in your tone, then hurried after Anthony and Elias to catch up, with Lucie following you.
                                                *
You could barely contain your excitement on your way to Cecily’s house. When the carriage stopped, Elias almost leaped out of it and Anthony helped you out of the carriage, his hand warming yours, making your heart skip a beat. You gazed up at him, no doubt the same memory flashing in his mind as well judging by the soft smile on his lips but you were snapped out of it when Elias cleared his throat, rolling his shoulders back.
“I can’t believe there was no florist on the way here.”
“You can send her flowers later on.”
“I will send multiple bouquets if she says yes,” he said and stole a look at you. “She wouldn’t—she wouldn’t be in love with Mr. Randolph, right Y/N? While I was…being an idiot, she wouldn’t have fallen for him?”
“No!” you said. “No of course not.”
“Anthony?”
“Hm?”
“If Trenlove challenges me to a duel, would you be my second?”
Anthony rolled his eyes. “He’s not going to do that, Eli.”
“But if he does, would you?”
“Without a second thought,” Anthony stated. “Now go in there, will you?”
“Are you sure you don’t want to be there?”
“It’s for you and Cecily,” you said. “We will wait here.”
Elias took a deep breath and knocked on the door, clenching and unclenching his fists as if he was trying to calm himself down. He waited a couple of seconds and then the butler opened the door.
“Marquess Westcliff,” Elias introduced himself and stepped inside before the butler closed the door behind him. You peeked at Lucie who winked at you, standing as far away from you as possible while chaperoning you two and Anthony stole a look at you, then at the house.
“Well I have to admit,” he said. “This is going to be a score for you, not me.”
You giggled and rocked back and forth on your feet. “I told you!” you almost chirped, making his eyes crinkle with an amused smile.
“You did.”
“And see, now they will get married!”
“Oh I see that. Congratulations on your victory darling.”
“Do you have it with you?” you asked him, your heart skipping a beat. “The paper?”
“I keep it in my drawer at my study, why?”
“I don’t exactly remember who’s ahead,” you grinned in triumph. “Who is it, do you remember?”
Anthony tilted his head. “Mmm, let me think…” he pondered. “You?”
“Me!” you said instantly, coaxing a chuckle out of him. “But I’m willing to share my score with you if you’d like.”
“How so?”
“Well you helped,” you said. “Even if you did sort of sabotage my carefully prepared plans and had that tragically ill-considered idea of him keeping his proposal straight and to the point without getting down on one knee, I don’t think he would have done it without your support. Back at dinner and today even.”
Anthony just watched you for a couple of seconds, fondness etched on his handsome features before he looked over his shoulder and moved his hand a little so that he could caress the back of your hand with a knuckle, the simple gesture sending a shiver down your spine.
“He will always have my support,” he said. “I promise you. Contrary to popular belief of—what was it, you said? Present company included in men being blind when it comes to love?”
“I was right though,” you said with your chin up, then scrunched up your nose as a giggle escaped from you. You turned your hand just a little so that you could drag your fingertips in his palm, making him close his eyes for a moment as if trying to control himself from curling his fingers to entwine them with yours, the ton be damned.
“How…” he breathed out as he opened his eyes again, “How do you do this to me with just one touch?”
You turned your head to capture his gaze in yours, and somehow it was enough to make everything else disappear. It was as if you two were the only ones on the street, in the whole city even, everything but you and him was a blur, too distant, too…
Insignificant.
No one else mattered. Nothing else mattered.
Nothing else could ever matter, not when he was looking at you like this.
You were snapped out of your thoughts and quickly pulled your hand back when the door opened and Cecily rushed outside to throw herself at you, hugging you tight. The cheerful voices coming from inside the house was even more proof that everyone inside was happy about the proposal and Elias stepped outside with a huge grin on his face. Cecily let out a teary giggle as she pulled back to look at you, wiping her eyes.
“Why didn’t you come in?”
You waved a hand in the air. “I figured you would need your privacy. It had to be romantic.”
“We’re all invited for tea,” Elias said as he pulled Anthony into a hug, then clapped him on the back. “Thank you. For everything.”
“Don’t mention it, congratulations,” Anthony said with a small smile, “To you too, Miss Cecily.”
“Thank you, Lord Bridgerton.” Cecily said, still wiping at her eyes and turned to you. “I still can’t believe this, is this…is this real?”
“Very much so,” you said as Elias and Anthony made their way inside and Cecily squeezed your arm.
“Y/N, I can’t thank you enough.”
“You have no reason to thank me—”
“No I do,” she cut you off. “You are the reason that all of this is happening, and without your support, I wouldn’t have known… I wouldn’t have known what real love is. This is the happiest I've ever been, so thank you. From the bottom of my heart. I’m very lucky to have the privilege of calling you my best friend.”
You blinked back the tears and hugged her tight, then pulled back.
“Do you wish to hear my ideas about your wedding gown?” you asked her. “I’ve been planning it ever since that dinner party, I think you will like them.”
“I’d love to hear them,” Cecily said with a huge smile and held your hand, then both of you climbed up the stairs to get inside the house, giggling.

Pedro Pascal: Life before and after Game of Thrones.
Until recently, people were still erroneously addressing Pedro Pascal as Pascal Pedro. But he didn’t mind. Years of struggle in New York’s theatre scene had taught him to take things in stride. Pascal had studied drama in NYU, with his appearances on television after that limited to bit parts in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and a few cop dramas. It took Game of Thrones, playing the part of Oberyn Martell, to make Pascal a household name – at the age of 37, no less.
Since that breakout role, Pascal has been busy. Among other works, he starred opposite Denzel Washington in The Equalizer 2, played a leading role in the Netflix biographical crime series Narcos, and acted as Agent Whiskey in Kingsman: The Golden Circle. There’s more to come, beginning with the titular character in The Mandalorian, which airs on Disney’s new streaming service Disney+ this November. In June next year, Pascal is slated to appear in the next Wonder Woman movie as the villain Maxwell Lord. Clearly, the man’s career has just properly started.
When did you first fall in love with acting?
At a very young age. My father used to take us to the movies three times a week. He’d come home from work and ask if we wanted to go see something, and we would, of course, want to go. I saw First Blood, The Big Chill, and so many other films. There was one summer when my mother would drop me off at the movie theatre as though it was daycare – times were different back then.
I’d watch a few screenings of movies like Poltergeist in one afternoon before she picked me up at six. This exposure to films led to a hobby in acting that my parents were happy I had – at least I wasn’t sitting around watching cable TV all day. It occupied so much of my time and eventually turned into serious training.
Why did you make the shift?
I had to take things more seriously if I wanted to stick with it. It wasn’t just being in love with the idea of appearing in movies and on stage any more – I needed to learn to analyse a story, delve deeper into the various aspects of acting, and learn the technical side of things. What came next was getting jobs to pay the bills. Surviving as an actor, basically.
You took some time to find mainstream success. Did you ever consider quitting?
The confidence definitely fluctuates. I didn’t develop other skills, so my familiar routine was to attend auditions for jobs. One would be enough to pay for rent and food for a while, or I had to wait tables to pay for my expenses. It felt completely desperate because I was really in love with the art of acting and the idea of being a working actor.
But I always got enough work to keep going. I don’t think I would have if I couldn’t get a job in three years or something like that, but such a thing never happened. I would get a role in a tiny little play outside of Boston, or a beer commercial, or an episode of a cop show in the city.
Do you appreciate your popularity more since it came later? How do you think this has influenced the way you approach your status as a celebrity now?
I was definitely more self-assured because my habits and routines were firmly in place and felt more important to me than my newfound success. I know it’s hard for me to describe this, but I just don’t feel famous. That wasn’t part of my development when I was younger, so I came into it “fully cooked”, or maybe even overdone. (laughs) As exciting and as strange as fame can be, it just doesn’t feel as real to me as my relationships, or the fact that my backaches, or how I panic in the morning if I don’t know exactly where I can get my coffee. Those things have much higher stakes to me than the public’s perception of who I am.
Can you identify a reason for your success? Did it make sense for to you when it “arrived”, perhaps because you thought you were becoming a better actor, or was it pure luck?
I oscillate between the two. It can seem totally random, which is terrifying because anything can happen, but the randomness of it all makes a little more sense to me. But I see some clearly predestined circumstances for other people, and you sometimes have these very clear realisations that an opportunity was kept from you a long time ago because it wasn’t the right place or the right time. I guess I probably lean more towards the randomness of it all, or the simple idea that if you keep at the same damn thing, you’re increasing your chances of it succeeding.
And how do you view your breakout role in Game of Thrones now?
It changed my life, but what’s interesting is how all the silly jobs that I’ve had before this one also felt like big breaks. I was a jobbing actor by my late 20s, and I was just as excited with some seventh-tier role on some network television show because it meant that I could pay some bills.
That felt like as big as a win as anything else. It’s the same with theatre. Because it’s so hard to go from the small plays to the medium-sized ones, getting a role in the latter feels like a miracle too. I was close to becoming homeless many times in the past, and was actually staying at an AirBnB before getting the role in Game Of Thrones, so I must really thank the showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss for taking that chance on me.
Has your experience in theatre helped your work in film? How do they compare?
Theatre work is like the building blocks of what I do now. From Shakespeare to something contemporary, and everything in between, I’ve done them all. When you perform the same thing eight times a week, you’re constantly reworking your role to keep it interesting, whether it’s discovering something new or discarding something that exists. It feels like training. The last time I took classes was in college – and that’s something I don’t recommend – but doing theatre work felt like staying in school, which helped. Plus, it provided medical insurance and a weekly paycheck.
Tell us more about the new Mandalorian series.
It’s taking things in a new direction. I think it’s amazing that Lucasfilm is letting Jon Favereau and Dave Felloni take Star Wars into new territories as far as style and tone are concerned, from using practical effects and digital special effects in tandem, to exploring characters out of the familiar Star Wars settings.
They’re also blurring the boundaries between the good guys and the bad guys, and I love the idea of having things in a grey area. We’re dealing with the outer reaches of the galaxy here, which means a lot of ambivalence around what is right and wrong, and the conflict between self-serving and self-sacrificial decisions and actions. It’s all very much a part of the Star Wars story. As for the character, the Mandalorian is a bounty hunter, and people pay him to do jobs. Let’s just leave it at that for now.
Christopher Nolan said he casted Tom Hardy as Bane because of how he acts through his eyes in the mask. What was it like to express everything you needed to in this role with a full-face helmet on?
Much of the work is already taken care of by the writing, which is great, as well as the visual experience that the show provides. But it was still important to me to live in the story as a person who does not show his face, so I worked a lot on the character’s body language. It feels almost like going back to theatre. I think that there’s a lot that can be told with stillness and very economical movements.
I hear that you’re a real movie nerd. Do you have recommendations for fairly unknown directors or movies that we should pay attention to?
I just saw this incredible movie called Monos by Alejandro Landes. It was amazing. And I’ve been floored by [director] Ari Aster. He’s an aesthetician that also brings out great performances, and the films Hereditary and Midsommar blew me away totally. There’s also someone who’s up and coming – Taika Waititi – who made Jojo Rabbit, that’s, in my opinion, the best movie of the year.

It had been a long, hard year for Nathalie Moss. In January, she was engaged to her college sweetheart, living in Chicago, and working her dream job as the Field Museum’s junior art history coordinator. In June, her world crumbled when she discovered her fiancé in bed with another woman—the museum’s senior art history coordinator, to be exact. In July, she moved back home on a panicked whim, her nurturing and only sometimes overbearing parents elated to have their child home ten years after she’d left for college.
Since the summer, Nathalie kept busy working days in her mother’s craft store and nights at her father’s bar—her hometown’s only true pub. She worked and worked until she had no time left in the day to dwell on her circumstance, knowing that if she got stuck on it for too long, she’d turn into some pitiful recluse that the town whispered about when she wasn’t around and pitied when she was.
The holidays had been harder than she anticipated, all of her old high school friends (and enemies) rolling back into town to show off their success in both love and life. She’d already been invited to three weddings next summer, met at least six newborns, and was forced into scrolling through countless pictures of first homes and new cars. Every picture and every story reminded her that just last year she was like all of them—happy about starting her own life, and certainly not caring whether or not anyone else wanted to hear about it.
Nathalie made it a point to not turn too bitter, always offering congratulations and a smile whenever it was asked of her, but to say that she was truly happy for them would be a lie. It was hard to be happy for other people when she wasn’t even happy with her own lot.
Tonight she had been wearing her fake smile a bit too long, her neighbor’s—the Cho family—annual holiday party forced her to socialize and mingle far longer than she was used to. Sensing her mask shattering under the weight of societal pressure to be a ball of holiday glee, Nathalie made her way over to the kitchen and stood at the island, picking away at the spread of appetizers.
“Hey, do you remember Marcus Pike? My brother’s friend from high school?” Angela, Nathalie’s only true friend in town walked in with her two-year old on her hip. Nathalie turned pink in the cheeks at the sound of his name, having spent so many years drawing hearts around it in all of her journals.
“Yeah, I think so,” she responded casually as she bit into a carrot.
“Guess he’s coming back home for the holidays. Everybody’s out there talking about it.” Nathalie hummed in acknowledgment, hiding her inner giddiness at the idea of running into him again after so many years.
Last she heard he was using his love and knowledge of art with the government, though his parents kept pretty mum about the specifics of his job.
She knew he hadn’t been back home for the last three Christmases, his parents that lived across the street from her house having gone off to wherever he was instead of the other way around. She quickly assumed that he could only be coming home for one reason—to show off a new engagement or perhaps even a child, either way, he was off limits.
“Did everybody talk about me like this when I came back home?” She asked, switching subjects to keep her girlish fantasies from getting too delusional.
“Yeah,” Angela responded straight, earning a chuckle from her friend. “There’s not much else to talk about besides everyone who’s gone off and made something of themselves. It’s like when a celebrity visits their hometown after finding fame. We all just get to watch and gossip.”
“Well, not me.” Nathalie sassed as she popped a grape into her mouth, her mother walking in with none other than Marcus’s mom, Mrs. Pike.
“Hey, girls,” Mrs. Moss greeted her daughter and Angela with a tipsy smile, a 1st Place badge pinned to her homemade ugly Christmas sweater. “Having fun?”
“Yeah, mom.” Nathalie groaned as her mother walked over and hugged her into her side, kissing her temple. “God, you smell like the bar.”
“Yeah, well you smell like a party pooper,” she countered.
“Do one of you girls have a phone charger I could borrow? My phone died and Marcus is supposed to be calling me when he gets into town.” Mrs. Pike asked in her soft, whispery voice. Nathalie squirmed out of her mother’s embrace to walk over to her purse sitting on the counter, tugging out her charger.
“Here you go, Mrs. P.” The older woman gave Nathalie a thankful smile, placing her hand over her heart.
“Thank you, dear. You’re always so considerate. Wish my Marcus would find a girl like you to settle down with instead of these cruel women he’s been going after.” The 50-something year old was clearly a bit tipsy, her sober self rarely ever indulging in gossip, let alone about her own family. “He went and got engaged on a whim, but thankfully that’s all over with now. Poor boy, got his heart absolutely shattered by it all.”
“Now who does that remind me of?” Angela teased from across the room as she fixed her toddler a plate of food. Nathalie gave her a narrowed glare, mockingly laughing along with her. “Just saying.”
“That’s right!” Mrs. Pike turned to you enthusiastically. “Maybe the two of you could get some coffee and talk about it!”
“I’m not sure recounting the stories of our failed engagements would make for very good conversation,” Nathalie chuckled awkwardly, reaching for the nearest item of food to busy her mouth and hands with.
“Right, right.” She nodded, her eyes flickering to Nathalie’s mother’s. “But…”
“But maybe it would be nice to make a friend that sort of knows what you’re going through,” her mother persisted, earning a groan from her daughter. “Not like you have anything else to do.”
“If I see Marcus, I’ll say hi. If I don’t, I don’t.”
“Well, you won’t have to look very far to find me.” His voice shot through Nathalie like a bullet, her mind instantly flipping back to when she was fifteen and in love with the twenty-year old across the street who had no idea she existed.
When she turned around to greet him, she felt her knees physically grow weak at the sight of him fully grown, a beard now covering his previously clean shaven jaw. He was wearing a black leather jacket, a navy blue cable knit sweater, and a pair of khaki chinos, his broad shoulders making him look like a wall of coziness and warmth as he stood in front of her, smiling down at her like he had no idea it made her sick with yearning.
“Nat, it’s nice seeing you after so long.” She stared at him with wide eyes and parted lips, a pink blush on her tan skin. She half-expected him to not recognize her or remember her name, after all, it had been at least three years since she’d last bumped into him and even that was only in passing.
“Marcus,” she responded abruptly, holding her hand out for him to shake in a moment of flustered panic. Marcus chuckled as he looked down at her hand, sliding his own into it and giving it a shake. She tried not to think too hard about how warm and soft it was, or how it was big enough to wrap around her entire hand with ease.
“Marcus, honey, we need to make our rounds with you. Everyone is so excited that you’re home again.” Mrs. Pike walked over and stole her son’s attention, but Nathalie didn’t fail to notice the way Marcus’ eyes lingered on her as he was pulled out of the room.
“Did you see the way he looked at you?” Nathalie’s mother teased, squeezing her daughter’s shoulders.
“Mom, relax. He was just saying hi.”
“No,” Angela interjected with a wag of her finger, gesturing between Nathalie and the spot that Marcus was just standing at. “That was chemistry.”
“That was a greeting.” Nathalie countered, her heart secretly pounding in her chest as her hand still tingled from his touch. “You guys are ridiculous. I’m going home.”
“You want us to have Marcus walk you back? Make sure you get there safe?” Her mother called out teasingly as Nathalie grabbed her coat and purse and headed towards the back door.
“I’m good, thanks!” Nathalie couldn’t help but laugh at their lack of subtlety as she walked through the now snowy grass connecting the Cho’s lawn to her own.
“Psst!” Nathalie jumped at the sound of a whisper, her father sitting on their front porch in his rocking chair, sipping on a tea.
“Jesus, dad. Trying to give me a heart attack at twenty-eight.”
“As opposed to forty? This is the youngest you’re ever gonna get, kid.” She chuckled at his teasing, walking across the dark lawn and up the front steps to join him. She sat down in her mother’s matching rocking chair beside his, accepting the blanket he had draped over his lap when he offered it to her. “Shouldn’t you be enjoying the party?”
“Shouldn’t you? Mom’s tipsy.”
“Ah, leave her alone. This is the only night a year that woman lets loose. She works so hard all year, god knows she deserves it.” Nathalie smiled, her parent’s relationship setting an almost unachievable standard. “Hey, I heard the Pike boy is back.”
“God, you’re not going to tease me for my old crush on him too, are you?” She groaned, slumping back into the chair.
“No, I was just gonna make fun of his new beard.”
“I like his new beard.” The mere memory of his face brought a smile to hers, his effect on her more powerful than she’d ever openly admit.
“Alright, now I’m gonna make fun of you for your crush.” Nathalie let out a rumble of chuckles followed by a sigh, shaking her head at her father as she stood up.
“Well, that’s my cue to go to bed.” She gave him a pat on the shoulder before dropping the blanket back in his lap. The near-sixty year old stood up with his daughter, following her as she moved to head inside. “You’re not gonna wait up for mom?”
“I’ll wait up for her in our bedroom where it’s nice and warm…and there are pillows…and my TV…and a lock on the door in case she comes home and tries to get frisky.”
“Oh, dear god, I’m begging you to stop.” Nathalie gagged, covering her mouth as her body physically reacted to the thought of her parents having an active sex life at their age.
“How do you think you were born?” He asked as he walked into the kitchen to put his cup of tea in the sink.
“I just figured it was a one-time thing!” She called back with a smile, her fuzzy-sock-covered feet padding up the staircase.
When Nathalie got to her room, she let out a soft sigh, rolling her neck as she walked over to her window nook and looked out at the party next door, Marcus standing outside talking with one of her old classmates from high school, Emily, a very pretty blonde who somehow remained single all these years. The sight of them laughing and exchanging phone numbers was enough to make her feel sick so she closed her curtains and wished him a goodnight from afar.
At least one of them was moving on.

Nathalie was still awake at 1 a.m., a bowl of popcorn in her lap as she laid in bed rewatching Atonement just for the library scene. She had a mud mask on and was wearing her coziest—and most worn in—sleeping clothes, a 3XL shirt from her alma mater that had small tears and stains all over it from years of good use and a pair of Family Guy pajama pants she stole from her ex-fiancé.
Hearing a knock at the front door, she paused her movie, brows furrowing as she waited for her father to wake up and handle it but his snores continued without interruption. With a pained sigh, she tossed her blankets back and carried her bowl of popcorn with her downstairs to the front door.
On her tiptoes, Nathalie peeked through the peephole in the door to check out who was on the other side, panicking when she saw her drunken mother accompanied by none other than Marcus Pike. With no time to fix her appearance, she willed herself to not care about the fact that she was in tattered PJ’s and a mud mask, her breath no doubt smelling like a vat of butter from the popcorn she’d been pecking at. Opening the door, she was greeted with a grateful exhale from Marcus and a drunken cheer from her mother.
“Nattie! Look what chivalrous hunk offered to walk me home!” She hugged Marcus into her side and he looked to you with pleading eyes, a chuckle escaping your lips at the sight.
“Mom, there’s another chivalrous hunk snoring and waiting for you upstairs.” Nathalie guided her inside and watched as she jogged up to her bedroom without injuring herself, muttering something about needing to leave a sock on her door tonight. “Ew, god. Sorry about that, Marcus. And sorry about her. And also the fact that I look like this right now.”
“I kinda like it,” he smiled down at her as she finally willed her eyes to meet his. “Your fiancé is a lucky guy to get to come home to you like this all the time.”
His tone was light, preventing her from reading too far into the compliment, especially when it was paired with the mention of her ex.
“We, uh, we actually split up this summer. So…I guess my natural beauty didn’t do it for him after all,” she joked, Marcus looking offended for a moment before settling on a look of concern.
“I’m so sorry, I hadn’t heard. You two were always so happy whenever I ran into you.” His voice was tender but still light, giving her the space to either make a joke of things or pour her heart out to him—either way, he wanted to hear more from her.
“Yeah, we were. But then someone else came along and made him happier.” She shrugged, her lips pursed into a flat line. “I, uh, I heard you’re in the same boat.”
“Oh…yeah,” he chuckled nervously and scratched the back of his neck. “I think that was just me trying to settle down too fast. Not true love or anything like that. But…the, uh, the hurt is definitely…there.”
“Yeah, I know what you mean.” She gave him an empathetic curl of her lips, the two locking eyes long enough for a fire to start to burn in her belly, her eyes darting away once she began to burn too hot for him. “Anyways, I should get back upstairs. Got a hot date with James McAvoy and Kiera Knightley.”
“Atonement?” He asked with enthusiasm, his eyes brightening.
Nathalie chuckled and shook her head in disbelief. Was he fucking for real?
“Yeah,” she smiled widely at him, his eyes flickering to her lips. “I’d invite you to join me but I think I’d need to ask my parents first.”
“Yeah, wouldn’t want your mom to think poorly of me after the night we’ve shared together.” Nathalie laughed at that, feeling for the first time in a very long time like she didn’t need to pretend to be enjoying conversation. No, quite the opposite—she didn’t want it to ever end. “I’ll let you get back to your movie, Nat. It was really nice catching up with you.”
“I’ll see you around, Marcus,” she gave him a soft smile. Marcus chuckled and nodded as he turned to leave her porch, stopping to say one last thing with the most pretty smile she’d ever witnessed in her life. He was the kind of handsome that made even the smartest of women fuzzy in the head—the most dangerous kind of man, she reckoned.
“I really hope so.”
And with that, Nathalie shut the door and pressed her back to it, taking slow and careful breaths as she tried to cool off her arousal and mounting crush. It was silly to get swept away by love like this again, this soon after having seen first hand that it was all a charade anyways.
“He’s so clearly into you, honey.” Nathalie jumped at the sound of her mother calling out from the top of the staircase, apparently having witnessed everything.
“Jesus,” she shook her head, trying hard not to buy into her mother’s encouragement. “Go to bed.”
“You’re not my mom.”
“Clever.”

The next night, Nathalie stood behind the bar at her father’s pub with her coworker, MJ, a woman in her late fifties with lots of experience dealing with drunk and rowdy patrons. Her hair was raven black except for at the roots, her natural grey peeking out giving her age away. She always wore a thick layer of makeup, dark eyeliner smudged around her doe shaped eyes and dark red lipstick that complimented her milk chocolate skin. Nathalie looked up to MJ as a cool aunt of sorts, the woman having never settled down or had any children and yet never seemed to be lacking in fulfillment.
“Did I tell you about my newest painting I just sold?” She asked as both women dried off some newly washed cups with dish towels, the bar full of people but all their drinks and orders were caught up on.
“No! Oh my god, MJ! Look at you go!” She congratulated with a genuine smile. “Tell me about it.”
“It was just an abstract piece I was messing around with, but this guy saw it earlier today at the farmers market…oh, what was his name?”
“Marcus!” Nathalie gasped at the sight of her crush walking into the bar—the crush she couldn’t squash no matter how hard she tried to will it to disappear.
“Oh, yeah! That’s him. You know him?” MJ asked, turning to Nathalie.
“Yeah, we’re…neighbors.” She responded in a more muted tone, having caught a glimpse of her old classmate, Emily, walking in with him, the two looking like they’d just come from a nice dinner date. “Hey, uh, I gotta go use the restroom.”
“That’s alright, I can handle it up here for a little.” MJ nodded, not failing to notice how pale Nathalie had gotten in the last minute.
Running into the back, she was met with the line cook, a man old enough to be her father but who insisted on flirting with her at every given opportunity, and her father who was sat in his office going over the books for this month. She passed both of them without giving them a second glance, her ears ringing and cheeks burning.
How was it possible that one human’s presence could send someone into such a panic that it felt as though she was dying? Her stomach flipped and turned sour, her heartbeat accelerated to the point of concern, her ears drowned out all sound while her eyes blurred her surroundings, though that might have just been the tears forming in her waterline.
Closing herself in the bathroom, she sunk to the floor, hugging her knees to her chest. She was used to these king of panic attacks by now, though they’d become less frequent now that her relationship had ended. All she needed was time alone to breathe, to remind herself that Marcus wasn’t cheating on her—he was single and so was she. It didn’t matter that she’d adored him since they met as kids. It didn’t matter that he was being so charming and flirty with her last night. He wasn’t her boyfriend and had every right in the world to date other people.
But why on earth did it hurt this bad to see him actually doing it?
One minute turned to ten, and soon the line cook was knocking on the door to the restroom. Nathalie washed her hands and splashed her face with the ice cold water, hoping that it would be enough to force her into reality. Opening the door, the older cook gave her a quirked eyebrow, looking at her as though she was some sort of creature rather than the beauty he usually deemed her as.
“Sorry,” she mumbled as she walked past him, unsure of whether or not she was apologizing about occupying the bathroom for so long or for her swollen-eyed appearance.
Walking back into the front, Nathalie’s eyes scanned the room for Marcus and Emily, finding them sitting together at the bar, giggling and sharing a bowl of peanuts while they sipped their beers.
What a cool girl.
“Ugh,” she groaned out loud for her mind’s unspoken bullying, knowing that just because Emily was with Marcus didn’t mean that she was some sort of enemy or competition, nor was she deserving of Nathalie’s jealous insults.
“You’re back!” MJ greeted, waving Nathalie closer to where Marcus sat. “My friend Marcus here was asking about you.”
“Great,” she whispered underneath her breath as she hesitantly approached the couple. Her eyes met Emily’s first, the blue-green irises stunning and far more visually striking than Nathalie’s plain brown ones. Next came Marcus’, his brown eyes warm enough to melt her and deep enough to drown her. That was a death she’d gladly die. Putting on a brave face and the fakest smile, hardly even wide enough to bring those smile lines her ex always used to tease her about to her face. “Marcus, Emily. How are you guys doing tonight?”
“Doing amazing,” Emily responded in a sickeningly sweet voice. Nathalie had forgotten how bubbly she was.
“I’m alright,” Marcus added, his joy a bit more subdued than his date’s. “I, uh, forgot your dad owned this place. And then MJ mentioned you were working here and I had to see it for myself.”
“Yep,” Nathalie nodded, her lips in a flattened smile as she tucked her hands into the back pocket of her jeans. “Days at the craft store and nights here at the bar.”
“I thought you went on to work at some big museum in Chicago?” Emily asked, pulling Nathalie’s eyes away from Marcus.
“I did.” She spoke matter-of-factory. “And now I’m here.”
“Oh,” the blonde nodded, finally gathering that it was a sore subject.
“Yeah.” Nathalie turned her eyes back to Marcus. “I, uh, I heard you bought MJ’s latest masterpiece.”
“Oh, yeah! It was stunning, I had to.” He chuckled and gave MJ a smile. “I’m serious about commissioning you for another, MJ. I’ll give you my number before I go so that we can talk details.”
Seems like everyone got offered his phone number except for Nathalie.
“My god,” the old woman beamed, placing her hand over her heart. “That would be amazing.”
“You, too.” Marcus turned his focus back to Nathalie, his half-smile reaching one of his eyes. “In case you need me to babysit your mom again.”
Nathalie hesitated, noticing the way Emily looked down at her drink with a solemn expression. She knew that if she was the one on a date with Marcus fucking Pike and he was going around offering his number up to another woman her age, not half bad in the looks department, she wouldn’t feel great, so…
“I think that was a one off, but I appreciate the gesture, Marcus.” She could see his face fall in disappointment, his smile fading into a look of resignation. “Anyways, it was nice seeing you both. I gotta go get those guys some refills before I lose my tip.”
Marcus’ eyes didn’t follow where Nathalie was pointing to, a group of regulars practically whistling for her attention. Instead, he turned away completely, focusing on his date again. Nathalie accepted the blow of his cold shoulder as she left the group to walk to the other end of the bar counter to do her job.
After all, it was probably for the best.
She wasn’t a mathematician but it was easily guessed that two failed engagements wouldn’t add up to one successful, new romance. Marcus was better off with bubbly, no baggage Emily, and Nathalie was better off alone.
Or at least that’s what she’d tell herself tonight when sleep struggled to come to her.
