I’ve read so many stories from WWI about how wounded soldiers who couldn’t be taken to a hospital and got infected with maggots had a higher survival rate and healed up nicer than a lot of soldiers who were cared for by doctors because the maggots were far better at removing dead/rotten tissue and leaving healthy tissue intact that if I was far from medical care and ended up with maggots in my wound I’d kick anyone away who tried to remove them “No! Let them work!” Fuck, if I was offered to be treated with the modern maggots bred specifically for wound treatment at a hospital I’d be kinda excited. And if someone else got a maggoty wound far from civilization and freaked out I’d try my damn hardest to convince them to please leave them in.
But try having a normal conversation with someone at a dinner party about that.

Status report: Taking day off to consult with specialist at regional hospital regarding various intertwined abdominal problems. Specialist consultant revealed as cool lady doctor with flouncy print dress & gold sneakers. Instantly impressed (by numerous characteristics that have nothing to do with dress sense). (Though yeah, the gold sneakers are unquestionably a plus.)
We take counsel and she declares her intention to convene numerous specialists to examine and discuss recent MRIs and other data. "Ah," I say, "the Council of Elrond." Response: immediate SNORT. 😄
I think I'm in good hands here.

Capitalism is killing people in so many ways, and the medical industrial complex is one of them. Healthcare should always be a universal right -both fair and equitable access, but in many cases it is not... the mass injustices.

anxiety, depression and/or being mentally and/or physically exhausted should always be a valid reason for any employee to take a day off without their paycheck being affected in any way, and also for any student to take a day off without their grade being affected in any way by the way

lots of health professionals act like looking at how fat you are or seeing you have a pre-existing ~psychiatric illness~ and deciding that's what's causing whatever malady you're seeing them for is ~practicing medicine~ but in reality that's just prejudice and bigotry, baby. don't fucking listen to them.
they can't know what's causing these problems if they don't examine you, run tests, and actually work to understand what you're experiencing. that requires talking and listening to you - not making you wait 40 minutes in the lobby just to spend 5 minutes in the room with you and treat you like you're overdramatic and lazy. you deserve better. so much better. and this still applies even if it is related to what they assume it is.
