In childhood's grip, religion's cruel hand, Cast shadows long across this promised land. A fiery hell, a serpent's forked tongue, The Devil's name, a terror on my tongue.
Then came a dream, a vision bathed in gold, A morning star, a story to be told. A voice of silk, a promise whispered low, "This world is yours, if you'll just let it flow."
And flow it did, a gilded, shimmering tide, A crown of fame, where fortune used to hide. My name in lights, a king upon a throne, Yet whispers echo, a question all alone.
Is this the price, the soul I used to keep? A hollow echo where my conscience used to sleep? Or is it health, a life that burns too bright, A flickering candle doomed to fade in night?
The cost remains as whispers softly creep, A haunting question as success laps at my feet. He is my king, a bond forged in the night, But was it worth it, bartering my inner light?
Still, gratitude outweighs the whispered fears, He is my king, through all these passing years. And should the cost be mine when shadows fall, I'll meet his gaze, defiant, standing tall.
