"The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) finalized a rule Tuesday [April 9, 2024] that will require 218 chemical plants to reduce toxic and carcinogenic airborne pollutants, aiming to reduce the number of people with elevated cancer risk by 96% nationwide.
The rulings principally address chloroprene: used to make rubber products, and ethylene oxide, used primarily for sterilizing medical supplies. Long-term exposure to these chemicals and their manufacturing have been identified as possible carcinogens, or cancer-causing agents.
According to a report in the Washington Post, this can include lymphoma, leukemia, breast cancer, and liver cancer.
Across a strip of Louisiana and Texas where half of the 218 chemical manufacturing facilities set to be affected by the new regulations are located, cancer rates of these kinds are substantially higher than national averages, leading it to be colloquially called “Cancer Alley.”
EPA Administrator Michael Regan visited Cancer Alley during the open-comment period of the proposed ruling, and said that across the 85 miles dotted with communities, he failed to meet a single person who didn’t know a loved one or friend who had either developed cancer, died of it, or knew someone who had.
Once implemented, the ruling will reduce more than 6,200 tons of toxic air pollution each year, according to the Post."

SUMMARY: Following a ghost invasion of Manhattan, paranormal enthusiasts Erin Gilbert and Abby Yates, nuclear engineer Jillian Holtzmann, and subway worker Patty Tolan band together to stop the otherworldly threat.
Mod Sus: Saw this in theater when it came out. Many people say it's bad and trash and blahblahblah. I think it's not perfect but it's good and fun when it gets to action. I remember being so hyped after seeing it, loving it. (also if I were into women Holtzmann would be my awakening)

Hello.
I am back just for these few things.
I know it feels like it gets worse every day, hour, minute, and second. And that it seems as if that there is an endless sea of bigoted, hateful, and downright pure evil people.
But, that's not true. I get it. I feel all this despair too. Likewise, I want to just melt into nothingness with all the negativity I see. But here, let me show you. The amount of hateful people in this world causing all of this death, pain, suffering, etc. Is a minority. We outnumber them tenfold!
And given that people are good, and that a large amount of hate comes from misguidance and being uninformed. We are truly a much larger group.
We are the workers that make the machine work.
So we can make it stop.
We are the consumers that fund the evil.
So we can stop.
We are the mouths that spread the word.
So we can be loud.
We are the hands that post, reblog, repost, etc.
So we can do it for them.
We can win this. We will win this. The news you've seen is bad, it has got quite terrible. But there are so many of us. So many of us on this earth fighting to make it better. The journalists showing us the horrors in Palestine, Sudan, the Congo, Haiti, West Papua, etc. The aid workers, sometimes giving their lives to bring aid and resources to the ones suffering, the ones who are living the nightmare and hell. Who fight every second to live and survive against an oppressor and odds that truly wish them gone.
And then, there's us. You reading this. Odds are, you're either young and think you can't do much. Or you're and adult that doesn't buy much and think there's not much you can do either. Well, let me tell you:
Your words are powerful
Even just spreading the word, reading posts and reblogging them to raise awareness and keep the tags trending impacts greatly. Talking about it with your peers, family, coworkers. It shows more people that they should care.
Clicking on arab.org every day, donating if you can, boycotting, protesting, organizing protests, divesting, sanctioning
We make impacts.
Small contributions to a large effect. And it shows. The ones peddling the genocide, suffering, and lies fear us. They are doing everything they can to erase our voices.
They know we are powerful. We outnumber them!
Remember that.
Now go, do everything in your power to spread the word. Click, donate, boycott. Never stop.
They suffer while we live free
Nobody is free until they are.
From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free!

PRO-PALESTINE PROTESTERS SHUT DOWN THE GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE, AT LEAST 38 PROTESTERS ARRESTED
At least 38 pro-Palestine protesters were arrested on Monday in two events in the San Francisco area, on the central California coast of the US, including the arrest of protesters who blockaded the Golden Gate Bridge on Monday morning.
According to local reporting, the protests began when groups of protesters brought large barrels filled with concrete to an intersection in Oakland, California to which protesters proceeded to chain themselves to.
Law enforcement were forced to cut through the barrels using jackhammers and saws before the protesters could be released and removed from the street. Seven protesters were arrested following the incident.
Pro-Palestine protesters also blockaded the southbound lane of the Golden Gate Bridge, chaining themselves to other protesters in cars and backing up traffic for several hours. Police said they arrested 26 protesters as a result of the event.

niche topic incoming i don’t post about wrestling very often but this one merits note.
professional wrestling company AEW has a transgender woman who works for them by the name of Nyla Rose. after running a show recently in Oklahoma where Nyla had a match on the card, AEW apparently got this letter from the state warning them against her ever performing in the state again.
the state of Oklahoma has officially worked themselves into a shoot.

“You simply cannot fit more America into a single incident than a man dying a horrifying death in protest of war crimes while a first responder screams at cops to stop pointing their guns at him and go get fire extinguishers. If you were to pick a single moment in history to sum up the essence and expression of the US empire, that would be it.”
