It's so interesting to see how your if blew up so quickly. It's of course well deserved since u r so talented and your characters are incredible! It's been a while since I've been this invested in an if. Your characters just feel so human and so refreshing. I adore them all your honor. This is literally the first time I was confused at who I was going to romance out of the ROs because everyone is just amazing. I was watching the glory and the actor jung sung il really gave me orion vibes.

Thank you so much :,) I didn't expect it either, I wasn't sure if there was an audience for band ifs but im glad there is!! At first i thought people would not vibe with the flaws that they carry, or the affair route (i was very close to not including it) but im glad i stuck with my gut. i never wanted a squeaky clean cast. i just like characters who can be considered both a villain and hero to someone depending on perspective

You At First Sight

Plot : 6.5/10

The yandere : 4.5/10

Artwork : 7/10

Artist and Author : Icchae

This is one of those manhwa that I wish had a tighter plot and writing. It has quite a potential with its premise, however it is not that unique. Heroine-with-special-defect-slash-ability has been written and explored many times before. This is not a problem if we as the readers are presented with something new. I feel that the author did not present a unique take on it. Everything felt formulaic.

If I can categorise the story, then it would probably fit more with the young adult section. There are explorations of one’s identity, admittance of strength and weaknesses amidst personal growth. It is just a bit cliche at times, and the characters’ struggles felt forced. Subplots are created but not explored properly, leaving the readers with unfinished feels.

As this story is not heavily relying on plot (it is moving so slow, similar to slice of life style, but not quite), then the character in my opinion, should be fully fleshed out as any other good character-driven stories. However, I do not find side characters to be as engaging as the main character, yet they are given too much space. As I said, this story could do with heavy editing and tighter writing.

Now on the yandere, it is unfortunately not fully fleshed out as well. Whatever potential is there at the end of season 1 did not come as I hope. Maybe it is just me, I wish it was something darker. Not as dark as let’s say Red Fox’s Iza lol but it has soo much Cheese in the Trap’s Jung’s vibe. Alas, it was not like that at all. I would describe it as super mild yandere: dual face when facing FL vs meanie people.

I feel that many people would enjoy this story. Especially if you are new to yandere and might get the introduction benefit (as to not get scarred from the crazier ML) of a light yandere read. It is just… I have read many similar story like this one, and there are titles that are more superior. That is why it is just a let down for me. But don’t let that deter you, even if to get that doki-doki feelings seeing this eery smile, you will probably like it more than I do.

oh nonnie this is gonna be a challenge but i will do my absolute best. one thing you need to know about me and my taste in romance is that i'm really not here for straight up fluff. i need a bit of melodrama and angst to keep me invested. gonna stick it under a read more bc i feel it's gonna get lengthy asdfghjk

couples:

ji ho and jeung in (one spring night) - they invented being in love and facing your problems with maturity and they're just so important to me.

kang doo and moon soo (just between lovers) - if there's one thing i love in my romance it's angst and hurt people learning to heal together and literally no one does it like them. kang doo remains my favourite junho role too, so.

kyeo rye and yeon joo (if you wish upon me) - similar to jbl tbh kyeo rye is such a broken man at the start of the drama and watching him slowly fall in love and heal from years and years of trauma destroyed all of my emotions.

gong myung and se ra (into the ring) - THE childhood friends to rivals to friends to lovers ship!!!!! no one does it like they do honestly they're THE standard when it comes to emotional maturity.

joong gil and ryeon (tomorrow) - listen if you were around last year then you know just insane they made me. soulmates defying literal fate to end up together after centuries of trauma they make me so sick.

cheoljong and so bong (queen cheorin) - THE standard for enemies to lovers. nothing has ever been able to replicate the buzz they gave me week to week.

seon gyeom and mi joo (run on) - the softest couple on this entire list actually i think. they're just so sweet and cozy and safe and i love them so much.

taejun and taeyang (love all play) - my babies!!!! the drama itself kinda sucks but theyyyyy. one of the most mature relationships i've ever seen in a drama actually like we love a couple that actively talk about their issues and try to overcome them together.

vincenzo and cha young (vincenzo) - enemies to coconspirators to lovers excellence honestly who is doing chemistry like them. they're just so sexy.

dong jin and woo joo (call it love) - hi hello it's another instance of two traumatised people falling in love and finding happiness together what can i say i have a TYPE.

dramas:

one spring night - i've already talked about why i love this drama so much so i won't do it again but just know. i love it so so much it's so important to ME.

just between lovers - another one i've talked about a lot at this point but outside of the romance, this drama is just so GOOD. it deals with a lot of heavy themes so i'd advise discretion but it's so worth it imo. but just 10/10 experience wish i could go back and watch it again for the first time.

if you wish upon me - i love it for a lot of the same reasons i love jbl they're very similar imo. also. kyeo rye is the most character of all time i genuinely don't think ji chang wook is ever topping him.

into the ring - underrated!!!! underrated!!!!!!!!! underrated!!!!!!!!!!!! y'all slept on this one so hard and i still haven't forgiven you. i love romance between two grown adults who actually act their age and don't fall victim to stupid tropes.

run on - this drama makes me feel so cozy and safe and fuzzy idk man it's just pure good vibes for my soul.

call it love - if you love dramas that are slow, where a lot is said with very little dialogue and where the colour grading tells you a lot about the characters emotional states then boy do i have the drama for you.

witch's romance - can i interest you in twinky park seo joon in love with uhm jung hwa??? bc that's what this drama has to offer and it's so fun. it might be a bit dated now bc it came out in 2014 but i had such a good time when i first watched it.

queen cheorin - aside from the last half of the last episode i had such a good fun time watching two absolute idiots fight tooth and nail against falling in love with each other. when are we ever getting that level of chemistry again???

moon embracing the sun - alright i'm gonna be honest i don't actually remember all that much of this one anymore. i only watched it because kim soo hyun's in it. but i watched it as it was airing and it emotionally destroyed me so that's gotta count for something.

first love hatsukoi - yeah yeah it's not korean it's japanese but it's also the best show i've watched in the last year so!!!!! y'all can just take my rec and live with it. please please PLEASE watch it it's one of the most beautiful dramas i've ever seen and all four of the main actors are absolutely incredible in it.

Chapter 2: The Shadows

Kang-Dae and I proceeded to walk into a meeting room where about five people were sitting down waiting for us to arrive. As soon as we stepped into the room there was a feeling of seriousness and a bit of hostility coming from each team member. Compared to the Kang-dae's welcoming demeanor when we first met the team members do not seem too open or excited to meet me.

I took a deep breath in and turned to Kang-dae smiling face waiting for him to introduce me to our less-than-enthusiastic team members.

When Kang-dae saw that I was waiting for him to make the first introduction, he turned towards the team, and with a big gesture of his hand he loudly said, "Welcome to team shadow!"

One of the female team members that were closest to us heavily rolled her eyes and then looked at Kang-dae, "Would you please quit calling us that."

She then turned to me with a hesitant smile, "Hello you must be the new team leader. My name is Detective Yeom Haneul, and this is my partner Detective Bae Chul-Moo."

Both she and her partner stood up politely bowing to me and then when the other three realized it was their turn, they all stood up and turned to introduce themselves as well. Out of the last three left to introduce themselves only one of them was giving off a very unwelcoming and seemingly not too trusting vibe when he looked at me.

"Hello sir, I've heard a lot about you and your work my name is Detective Ree Soo, and this is my partner Detective Jun Heewon. It's a pleasure to meet you and to work with you sir," she said with a small smile and her partner nodded in agreement not making eye contact with me.

I slowly turned towards the last person not looking forward to his introduction as he seemed to be giving a disapproving frown at the other team members for welcoming me so warmly. I quickly looked at Kang-dae giving a confused frown as to why this detective seems so disapproving of me when from what I recall we've never met before.

The Kang-dae himself seem to be a little confused as to why the detective was giving a bit of a hostile vibe towards me. Kang-dae cleared his throat to get the other detective's attention and waited for him to introduce himself.

"Detective Heo Suk," he said without really looking at me and sat back down.

Kang-dae with a frown towards Detective Suk said, "I apologize for our senior officer he is running on no sleep and little food, so he is moody."

"Ya! Stop making it seem like I'm some moody toddler!" Suk huffed with his arms crossed.

"Well, you're looking and acting like one right now," Kang-dae mumbled.

The other team members all laughed at the bickering detectives. I couldn't help but laugh along with them. I'm starting to understand that Kang-dae seems to be the person that can relax in the room. Even Detective Suk seems to have calmed down after playfully bickering with Kang-dae.

Detective Suk let out a sigh and then turn to me with an apologetic smile, "Listen no hard feelings I just have been under a lot of stress between undercover work and now this case turning into murders."

A wave of seriousness filled the meeting room and all the detectives stopped smiling. Each person remembered the reason they are gathered in this room.

"Well, let me make my introduction brief. My name is Detective Jung Inho, and I will be your new team leader from now on," I looked each one of my new team members in the eye so they understood my seriousness.

"I plan with the help of each one of you to solve this case and put an end to this killer."

Everybody nodded their head in determination in agreement with my statement.

"Okay since we know each lets over the case, I want to specifically go over the victims' files. I want everyone to pick a file and focus on every detail on their day-to-day and see if there is any connection no matter how small."

I look around the table wait for each person to nod and grab a file. Detective Suk looked back at me and said, "The last murder victim was someone who was connected to my last undercover mission so investigate them since I can easily find information on them."

I nodded and then looked at Kang-dae, "We will be checking out the locations all the victims were last spotted and where the bodies were found. You are all dismissed, we'll meet up again tomorrow to update each on what we have found understood?"

Everyone quickly nodded and said, "Understood sir!"

"Okay, I grab the car and the list of the locations," Kang-dae said while walking to the door.

The other detectives all start to get up and gather their files to leave as well. I noticed that Detective Haneul seems to hesitate in leaving.

"Anything I can help you with detective Haneul?"

She looked up quickly and approached me slowly. I looked her up and down to see what her intentions might be. She stood a foot shorter than me with shoulder-length jet-black hair. She had very soft facial features that remind me a bit of my sister I thought but I quickly dismissed those thoughts and focused on what Detective Haneul was about to say.

"I...umm just wanted to say that Detective Kang-dae is the youngest member of the team and is still new to all this so please keep that in mind when you go out in the field with him," she looked me right into my brown eyes with her black eyes very seriously. "I don't mean any disrespect sir, but I have heard talk of your past partners and we care a lot about Kang so please keep him safe."

She released a deep breath and nodded to herself to prepare herself for me to reprimand her. I waited for her to look up at me and smiled. This seemed to confuse her more than my silence.

I looked behind her to see the rest of the team stop what they were doing and looked prepared to jump in and defend Detective Haneul from me. This made my smile even wide as I let out a small laugh and patted her on her shoulder.

"I'm relieved to know the team has each other's back like this," I continue to smile and look down at Detective Haneul, "As for Detective Kang-dae I appreciate you looking out for my partner and promise you that I will never put his life at risk."

"Sir I hope that goes for your life as well?" questioned Detective Chul-Moo with a frown.

I smile at him, "Now that is something I can't promise."

"Sir-" Haneul began to protest.

I cut her off quickly with a serious look, "I need you to understand to protect my partner or my team I will put my life at risk, okay?"

Haneul and the team all frowned but nodded their heads in understanding knowing they couldn't fight me on this. We all head out of the room with a new sense of respect and trust between us.

Drama rec masterlist | Drama rant thread (beware of spoilers)

I want to start with the good things for this drama, because despite what I might complain about later, I actually loved this drama!

The world they build - the lore, the magic-system, the locations - is fantastic. Absolutely magical and I would gladly accept any other seasons, spin-offs or whatever else they would give me in this world (not gonna happen, but I can at least dream). I do wish we actually saw a bit more of the magic happening, but I do also understand that special effects aren't cheap, and they used a lot in this drama.

Mostly, the special effects were absolutely gorgeous, though whenever there was heavy use of a green screen it became a lot more... idk, obvious? Didn't really ruin it that much for me, but there were some scenes that ended up looking somewhat goofy because it was so obviously green screened. Everything else, however - perfection.

I adore the characters in this drama - some were better developed story-wise than others, but in the end, I really did care about them. Season 1 did the best at this, where season two kind of lost its focus at some points, so I felt less connected to the characters in the end. (And I'm very sad about it). There were some character decisions I didn't really agree with later in the story, but I can't touch on that without spoiling, so you'll have to read my rant posts linked somewhere above if you're curious.

Now for what bugged me about the drama - the overall story / writing. They created this world with so much potential, and instead chose to spend most of the time on different types of love stories. So much of - this person likes this person, but that person likes another person, only that person likes... and so on. It was exhausting, and it felt like the involved characters never actually moved on or dealt with these feelings in any way. Someone pines for a person in season 1, still pines in season 2 and then never get a satisfying resolution. So even with all that focus, they still didn't get it right.

They never did actually specify that all of these people had romantic feelings for each other, so in theory they could be just platonic, but there were definitely romantic undertones that I really could have just done without - they brought absolutely nothing to the story.

The story was overall better in season 1, as they made some decisions in season 2 (especially later in the season) I really do not understand or like. I feel like they had so many opportunities to create this huge fantastical drama, but they tried to do so many things at once, that none of the things were actually good in the end.

Also, the main couple was never actually my favorite couple, and already there the drama is doing something wrong, I feel like. The vibes were just not there for me - the actors were amazing, and the chemistry good, but the writing and the story just didn't do it for me. (They were cute, don't get me wrong, I just didn't cheer as much for them as for some of the other background couples).

I guess what I'm just mainly trying to say, is that I feel like this could have been my favorite drama of all time... if they had just actually created a better story in this world.

The very first episode is dark and intense, and I was so hooked, and then the tone just switches completely to light and humor - and while I don't really mind after watching it as a whole, I feel like they didn't really nail the balance. They wanted to be both dark and light so bad that they just overdid both.

All that said though, I have given the drama a high score, cause even with all these things bothering me, I had a blast watching it - and the score is mainly for the world building and the characters.

If you like fantasy dramas, you will definitely like this one!

I would not recommend this drama to my friends. I would rewatch this drama.

Oh look, Vincenzo's Mi Ri. Kang Ki Doong is a pleasant face to see in any show. It's also nice to see Jung Sohee, who I liked the most from Bossam. I wish she wasn't horrible. Tae Sung's psychiatrist is Hospital Playlist's Min Chan's mom.

Si Duk, Yoo Sung, Jung Yeol, and Han Seung Il are really so cute. Tae Sung isn't cute to me, but I admit his body is nice. Pretties: Hong Bo in, Ki Bbeum, Ho Young, and Baek Da Hye. The star necklace is pretty.

Yoo Sung pleases me. Negative things about other people, he keeps to himself. He is also very capable at his job.

Tae Sung doesn't vibe with me, in the beginning, the way he teases Han Byeol and acts so childish despite really liking her. Just be honest, life is so short.

I love how capable everyone is at their jobs. Esp how they go above and beyond because they want to. I enjoyed Ki Bbeum's giving the phone call to the mom with her mom. I love the friend group of Ho Young, Han Byeol, and Ki Bbeum. I like them all individually as well. Tae Sung learning to confess is the best thing ever. Goals. I love how Jung Yeol helps him so smoothly. I love when the staff cheers whenever something good happens. I like how openly, strongly, and genuinely Lawyer Do smiles because of Han Byeol. I love how Da Hye fangirls. I love how Da Hye handled her work and the staff when Tae Sung rumors surfaced. I love how Han Byeol and Tae Sung are so awkward when the relationship begins. Yoo Sung's reaction to when Tae Sung first called him hyung is the best. I love how close and amusing the PR team is. I love how honest and forward Do Soo Hyuk is.

I ship Si Duk and Jae Hyun.

Obviously Ho Young would fall for Yoo Sung at the rate that he's being freaking cute, amazing, and kind. That hair touch and repetitive mentions of "cute."

Lmaoo at when Han Byeol sang Baek Ji Young's Don't Forget really quickly.

Da Hye really got the best life. Kissing your ideal after going to his fan signing.

The understanding between Ki Bbeum and Han Byeol at Yeon Woo's funeral made me so sad.

Their shot glasses are so cute.

i had to open MDL for this but i do have a good amount marked! i usually am excited by casts/writer/plot in that order before a visual is out.......issue is that i very easily get bored of dramas these days and drop them quickly lol but i hope these turn out good:

1. bad and crazy - 12/21; lee dong wook, wi ha jun. looks very fun, the trailer just dropped. police/crime/craziness in general.

2. big mouth - 2022; yoona and lee jong suk. lawyer corruption revenge plot but the cast looks incredible and i missed lee jong suk sooo much in dramas......also they play a married couple so!!! love that.

3. crazy love - 2022; krystal and kim jae wook. plot seems very strange but it has romance in it and kim jae wook has been MIA for like 800 years so i will have to watch it. i feel like they'll have good chemistry.

4. here - 2022; this cast is fucking insane like han ji min, kim woo bin, shin min ah, lee byung hun, etc. in one drama written by THE queen herself noh hee kyung. it's like a miniseries episodic thing but im ready to cry

5. island - 2022; kim nam gil, eunwoo, lee da hee. mysterious thriller involving spirits. love the cast.

6. our beloved summer - 12/21; kim da mi and choi woo shik in a ex-lovers reunited romcom i mean come on it looks so cute

7. snowdrop - 12/21; jung hae in and jisoo. i'm a big blackpink fan so i'm very excited to see jisoo act and i love hae in in melodramas......im getting youth of may vibes from it but in winter so let's see what it brings to the tragedy table

8. the silent sea - 12/21; GONG YOO IS BACK. WITH BAE DOONA. that's it. mandatory viewing. idc if it's total trash i will be watching.

9. the youngest son of a chaebol family - 2022; loml song joong ki with our gyeoul-ie shin hyun been in a revenge plot. very hyped for this!

10. thirty-nine - 2022; female lead drama headlined by son ye jin and jeon mi do. this is a dream come true i hope the writing is good

11. twenty-five, twenty-one - 2022; miss legend kim tae ri is back and with our best boy nam joo hyuk......love them both a lot so i'm happy and excited for it

12. suriname - 2022; ha jung woo, hwang jung min, yoo yeon seok, park hae soo........it's something to do with drugs but that cast is just....wow wow wow.

13. project k - 2022; park seo joon, han so hee, wi ha jun. i think that says enough lmao

I have just finished the first episode of Melancholia and I really love it. It has the vibe of a jdrama but with kdrama budget and it’s so so so so good! The acting is uniformly excellent, the world is dreary (everyone except for two mains are pretty terrible people) but in a way that makes you root for the mains to overcome it, and watching Im Soo Jung and Lee Do Hyun be soooo good separately and together is worth the price of admission.

Fair warning, this is set up as teacher x student tho except for the usual he catches her as she falls etc stuff they aren’t anywhere near there yet so if it’s not your bag, stay away. Regardless, hooking up with a teacher if that actually happens is the least of LDH’s character’s problems because as former math genius who dropped out of MIT at 12, his shell shocked reactions to the world and the blurry flashbacks indicate he was abused and he’s generally hella messed up.

(Because this is 2021 and not 2001, and this is a kdrama not a jdrama despite the vibes, I am pretty sure that there won’t be any actual romancing until they meet again as adults after a time jump, as per the premise, but we shall see.)
