She went in the store and she looked at the tag for the item number to make it easier for the clerk to find if it has a bigger size. She hurried to the desk and asked the woman nervous of the outcome. “Oh we do actually, check over by the plus area and it should be there in the dresses. I remember putting it away.” The kind woman said pointing her in the direction. Y/N said thank you and quickly went to the spot, seeing the dress there in plain sight. She was so excited ready for the pictures and days out she can wear this with her significant others. Use mamas card to get it so we can go.” Rhea smiled and kissed Y/Ns cheek. She nodded and went to the counter with a sad look on her face.

We love you for who you are cupcake.” Y/N smiled and hugged him back, “Now how about we go home and get you in this to post some pictures? Then after that we watch the Barbie movie again?” She nodded fast and Followed her two guardians along the mall. They stopped making sure that she was in front of them and watched her surroundings. Happy she’s happy.

“We are very lucky Rhea.” Damien smiled. “Very, a shame we didn’t beat that’s dude skull in.” Rhea muttered and on que saw the man that was talking to another woman. He peeked at the two and turned while. They both shot looks in disgust as he was trying to entertain another girl bothering her. Rhea tapped a security guard and pointed at the man explaining what happened, and the mall cop nodded going over to get him out. She smirked at her deed. “Mama!” Y/N called and Rhea went to catch up as they head to the car.

Ana stepped past Jey, and for a moment, he almost let her. Just as she got to the door, she felt his strong, yet soft hand on her bare arm, sparks flying from the single touch. Ana turned around, now sandwiched in between Jey and the door.

They had been here twice before, in this exact room, but something was different. Ana's resolve was quickly disintegrating. Jey was so beautiful, with his brown eyes that were warm and inviting, that she couldn't help melting into. Everything he did, he made it seem so effortless. She knew this was a bad idea, she knew it would be dangerous, could destroy the things that meant the most to her, yet she couldn't help herself. She was addicted to the way she felt when she was around him. Coming back into his orbit was like stepping out of the darkness; the feeling of warmth and happiness. She was reminded of Icarus, and how she had never related to his obsession and flight into the sun, until now. Now, she could understand why he ignored the warnings.

She was Icarus, and Joshua Fatu was the sun.

I quickly picks up the phone.

Shaynell: Hi, Lulu. How are you? I miss you.

Damian: I miss you too, mi amor. How are you doing?

Shaynell: I'm doing ok. Just ordering some food for tonight's episode of NXT

Damian: Aw. That nice. It been a few hours since I arrived to Riyadh and I already missed you so much. I wish you were there with me.

Shaynell: I know, But it illegal to be together in Saudi Arabia unless we're married.

Damian: Really?

Shaynell: Yes. I don't want you to get in trouble with WWE and the whole country.

Damian: I know, but I wish I could take you with me. I only had you for 2 days. I wish I could stay with you for a little longer.

Shaynell: I know, bunuelos.

Damian: When I come back next week, I'm going to spoil you rotten and kiss those juicy lips.

Shaynell:(blushing) Damian. I'm blushing.

Damian:(smirks) Good. I want to see that beautiful smile before I go to sleep.

I smile in front of the phone screen, making him smile.

Damian: I love your beautiful smile.

Alright anon which one of my friends trying to get me in trouble are you? However, now that I've been asked directly to cause problems, I am obligated to. By law.

Kid Jon, as he's portrayed by fanon, namely supersons fans and shippers, has not ever existed in canon.

Guiding questions: What identifying traits does kid jon have in canon? How are they then represented in fanon? Furthermore, when de-agers talk about what traits kid jon has that they "miss" now that Jon is older, are those traits actually absent, and/or, were they ever present whatsoever? What causes this divide?

Well, we can get a hint right away what people seem to think has been taken away, based off his most popular ao3 tag:

Hm. Alright. I can sort of understand where this came from- Jon is, largely, a very positive person. He's the son of Clark Kent, of course. He uh, smiles a lot! He's yknow, a happy kid. And compared to Damian, who is often written especially by Tomasi as being a brat, he is pretty nice.

(someone give this kid contact lenses im shaking jesus christ.) But the thing is... this is DEFINITELY not all he is. In fact, to say Jon Kent is a "ray of sunshine" in the sense that he is always positive and innocent and sweet isn't just only doing a surface reading of the texts he appears in, but is in fact ignoring LARGE swathes of texts both in Supersons books and outside of it. Let me give you a montage of all the time Jon engages in what I have dubbed "rabies mode".

This isn't even the full compilation I have on just this computer. Menace to society.

Kid Jon canonically being a bit of a strong-willed hothead who often is the one to throw hands with Damian specifically almost never comes up in fanworks. A huge portion of kid jon art is largely him being overly positive and uh, clingy with Damian, and the only time I really seen this more hotheaded aspect of his characterization be mentioned by kid jon fans is when theyre complaining how its seemingly absent in adult jon characterization. Its uh, its not, by the way. He's still like this. he just has more impulse control now, because hes.. yknow, an adult.

(that one from beast world was from a comic released TODAY. Honestly most of Jons attitude shows up around Bruce, which is hilarious and probably my favorite thing about TT writing Jon)

Here is the thing, though, and here is the point where I start giving proper analysis of Jon as a character, fanon treats these two sides of Jon as disparate when they are in fact deeply connected.

This is pretty common in fanonization. Two elements of a character's personally will be isolated from one another, without any recognition to the fact that these two elements are part of a greater whole. A good example is Dick Grayson and how you have one (much larger) camp leaning full-assed into his goofy silly side and the other camp insisting no actually hes grimdark and gritty and real. He's both of these things, and both of these things stem from the same place!

So, how do you explain these two aspects of Jon in a way that actually makes character sense?

Well, we can start right from his parentage, honestly. Jon Kent is the son of Clark Kent and Lois Lane.

(Lois being consistently left out of or mistreated in Jon fanworks is another topic for another day but know, supersons fans, i see how you treat the moms of both these characters and I despise you for it).

On the surface level, Jon gets his more positive 'happy' side from Clark, and his more impulsive side from Lois. But this is also a simplification- rather, whether it manifests as being hopeful and kind or as impulsive and brash, Jon's actions always stem from a sense of righteousness and morality that both his parents instilled in him. The same thing that is the root of all Clark and Lois's actions, be they productive or not, is the same spark that lives in Jon. Hope and Truth.

To drive my point home, here is Clark being impulsive, and here is Lois being kind.

Jon is a character who, much like his parents, follows his heart. That was half the appeal of the supersons dynamic, that much like with superman and batman, jon was the heart and damian was the mind and then they shared these traits with one another as they grew closer. Now, I'm going to talk a bit about how specifically fanon jon is almost characterized in the context of his relationship with Damian. I am going to say some things that will make people upset.

Lets get the big one out of the way... Damian is not only no longer Jon's most important relationship, he... never was.

Damian and Jon are friends. Best friends, yes! I like their friendship a lot, I actually like it more post-age up. They remind me a lot of me and my friends!

But Jon's got other people who matter to him more. He was never that 'clingy friend' who's obsessed with Damian that's often presented in fanworks- often its the opposite, with Damian showing up to bother Jon! And i'm not going to mention Jay here, I don't need to say that Jay is one his most important relationships, I've already gone into plenty of detail on how Jay is currently Jon's guiding beacon. And Jay wasn't around for Jon's childhood, I'm talking about Kid Jon here. I'm actually talking about Clark. Why does nobody who makes fan content of kid jon ever want to talk about Jon and Clark?

I would argue, actually, that the same duality that is presented with Damian's characterization, being torn between the Bat and the Demon, is a similar dynamic that Jon experiences with Clark.

Its just that rather being torn between his mom and dad, he's torn between his human needs that Clark tries and fails to meet, and the part of him that wants to live up to expectations as a Super. A divide between his human and kryptonian halves, that is only enhanced by the worst parenting mistake Clark ever made: Not telling Jon from the getgo that he is Superman.

(But that's another rant you'll have to unlock with another ask.)

Jon is a character who does not exist to enhance Damian's story, as fanon often treats him. Rather, he exists in conflict with the Superman mantle, as the mantle that Jon aspired to as a kid is now the mantle that, as an adult, is breaking him. Jon is not a character prop in someone else's story- he is rather a manifestation of Superman's theme of legacy.

Jon represents, even before the age up, the places where Clark's approach to being Superman have been lacking. This is especially prevalent in the Black Dawn arc from Tomasi and Gleason's Superman, which is probably the single most important moment in kid jon's characterization. Jon is the future- and he is a living reminder, even before the volcano, of the places Clark has fallen short.

And this isn't even getting into how this expanded upon post-age up.

This is the part where I drop the core thesis of my analysis: The real reason why Kid Jon doesn't work in fanon is because you cannot look at Jon just within the context of the fun parts of his childhood and understand him fully. The age up, and Jon's more complicated emotions and motivations, are all continuations of themes that were introduced in the background of the 'fun' parts, and theme is character.

Character is the vessel through which a story's theme is delivered. If you do not engage with the themes of the text you are picking characters from, you will inherently misinterpret them. This is why the divide exists between Jon and fanon Jon, as well as the divide between his two most notable traits. Because none of these traits I've listed, none of these relationships he has with other characters, none of them exist without the burden of the themes the stories they are in present. The themes of legacy, of familial hurt, of what it means to be a paragon, a hero. The examination of what happens when being a hero gets in the way of being someone's parent, and the painful reality of what happens when who you become gets in the way of being your father's son.

Fanon Jon is portrayed, frankly, as a dumbass. A happy ray of sunshine who exists to be Damian's sidekick (or lover if youre really delusional). If not that, than an impulsive idiot who needs to be saved from his impulses by Damian. He does not have a complicated relationship with Superman- he is just Superboy, Clark's son, and all of that is well and good and has never once put Jon in mortal peril. He's the golden retriever to Damian's black cat, and he's never experienced a Bad Mean Thought in his Entire Life.

The truth is far more interesting. Jon Kent, kid or not, was never a ray of sunshine. He is the storm clouds in the distance Clark can't bring himself to acknowledge- and he is, whether or not anyone likes it, the future that the present has created. And he fucking knows that.

And he was that long before Bendis and Taylor saw that, too.

hey hey saw ur tags on my six musical bats drawing haha i casted based off colour (this started because i thought steph would look so good in the khoward fit and then i just went, yknow dick in blue, jay in red, duke in yellow, etc etc) but now im wondering what your casting would be?? 👀👀 (also thanks to u and ur friend for the all-caps enthusiasm 🥰)

Oh wow hi! First off please don't think I meant to criticize, I noted Dick Jay and Duke's colors and LOVED it, loved the whole piece! (Six and Bats are so close to my heart lmao)

When I mentally cast it, I boiled each Queen's song down to a main point about their relationship with henry and fit the bats around that based on their relationships with batman (and didn't include Duke :/) so for me

No Way = "You cannot tell me when to quit" = Tim Drake (mostly thinking about RR which has Dick as Batman, but also just Tim giving Bruce no choice in when he first became Robin 😂)

Don't Lose Ur Head = "I do what I want ✌️" = that is honestly so Steph-coded to me. Just bouncing around going off and having fun. Also the whole gang war thing... "I didn't mean to hurt anyone" then she dies...

Heart of Stone = "I know we have issues but I want to make it work" = Jason. Just. Jason. Jason Todd. I can't even. Trust me.

Get Down = "I do what I want, also fuck you" = Dick Grayson. Like don't get me wrong he and Bruce love each other but the vibe of "I don't need you Imma do my OWN thing so long sucka" but then hangs out with the others... Idk made sense to me 😂

All You Wanna Do = "I was supposed to be a *child*" = Damian 😭 from everyone in the league even to Gotham though it's lightyears better and we usually let it go... This is a small tiny child. CHILD. Like K Howard. Playtime shouldn't be over and I think for this one AU Dami has the right to grieve/be mad about that

I Don't Need Your Love = "Lets get this straight, I'm here as a favor to YOU" = Cass. She's so powerful tbh and starts of as Babs's protege, idek for sure how she ended up with Bruce even though I treasure their relationship. Also the idea of her being kinda brushed aside bc she wasn't "beheaded" or "died" (being Robin or smt) but she's still so amazing

So yeah that was my thought process but the looks in your art are FIRE 🤩

World's Saddest Breakfast Club: Fun Facts

The opening line is a result of me angsting to @batmoniker about how I couldn't figure out how to start my fic, and her jokingly being like "I got you, bro. Ready? 'It was a dark and stormy night'" and then me just being stubborn and committing to the bit.

The story started with a vague idea of "everyone in the kitchen at 3am for different reasons and Jason channeling his inner short order cook." All I knew going in was the order I wanted people to appear, what was wrong with them (sick, hurt, insomnia, etc) and what food Jason would be making for them. Everything else I made up as I went.

If I could go back and change one thing about this fic, I'd reduce how long Jason was kidnapped to like, 6-8 days, max. 16 days seemed funny when I wrote it, but in hindsight, I feel like he'd be a little more fucked up in the story if he were really escaping from that many days of captivity lmao

I headcanon Dick as the kind of person who straight-up forgets to eat when he's preoccupied, and Jason as the kind of person who cannot FATHOM this concept. Jason absolutely will miss a meal if the situation calls for it, don't get me wrong, but he's aware the entire time he's doing it and it makes him super antsy. (This once turned into A Thing™ when Jason was like, 13 years old and staying with Dick for the weekend for some brotherly bonding and Dick forgot about lunch and by 5pm, Jason maybe sorta kinda had a minor panic attack about it. Dick was a lot more mindful of that moving forward)

Bruce's favorite food being lobster thermidor is a reference to the Lego Batman movie

I wrote this whole fic with Julia Child's recipe pulled up in one tab and my google doc in the other

At some point I realized that since I started with fresh lobsters, I was going to have to write Jason killing them, and it derailed me so hard that the fic nearly became about meatloaf instead. (Never mind the fact that Jason canonically kills human beings — that's totally fine. I just draw the line at him killing lobsters 😰)

(in the end I just kinda glossed over it and made sure they were already cooked before Damian appeared so I wouldn't have to address it 😬)

Dick's reoccurring shoulder injury is a reference to the DCAU where I swear that man has dislocated his shoulder/injured his arm at least 4x

The line about Tim being allergic/throwing up when he eats eggs was inspired by a line in chap 11 of @goldkirk's fic Hymn, which I've reread about 37x

Jason is correct— grits are fucking delicious and definitely not baby food.

My favorite line is "Okay there’s self-sacrificial bullshit, and then there’s whatever the fresh hell that is."

The idea for Cass being a big meat-eater comes from a comic panel where Steph offers her a plate of rice and beans and Cass says needs meat and starts mischievously eying Steph's hamster. Can't find the panel to save my life, but I promise it's out there.

EDIT: finally found it!

Steph's nickname of "Zombie Boy" for Jason is borrowed from @audreycritter's Cor Et Cerebrum series (which is a fucking masterpiece, btw)

This fic was gonna be called "Creatures of the Night" until batmoniker said Steph's line made for a better title

Several people have asked me whether Jason was really cooking Bruce's lobster to spite him, or if he was actually intending to make it for him all along. The answer is... both? Like Jason's kind of an unreliable narrator in that he's trying to convince himself that he's just doing what he's doing to be a little shithead when deep down it's all stemming from his need to take care of his family, you know? Like he'll never admit it, but that's where his heart is at.

To everyone who's asked for a part 2 where the family finds out Jason was kidnapped, I'm gonna be honest: the main reason I don't think I'm ever going to write that scene is because I can't come up with a good enough joke for him to make to accidentally out himself ☠️

Imagine Bruce starting therapy and learning about all these cool new tricks and gadgets that can help with emotional regulation and getting super invested (because I mean, c’mon, the dude’s like the king of gadget hoarding, he’s got a utility belt for goodness sake)

Then imagine the learning curve of him realizing that just because something works great for one of his kids, doesn’t mean it works for all of them, as illustrated by this memorable incident:

Jason gets really upset and starts having a minor panic attack about something

Bruce, proud owner of 14 new weighted blankets (in various styles, weights, and sizes), tries to wrap his adult son up in one to ground him

After all, Bruce himself finds them super comforting because it’s basically a socially acceptable alternative to wearing a massive Kevlar cape 24/7 like he’d do if he could

(Tim loves them too, so like, kid tested, parent approved™️)

Ends up totally backfiring when the added weight & restricted movement sends Jason into a full-blown flashback of digging out of his own grave, taking this panic attack from like a 4 to a 10

I have a headcanon that Dick doesn’t actually like cereal nearly as much as he pretends to.

He just knew that Bruce felt bad about his own cooking ineptitude in the early days after taking his new ward in, so whenever Alfred had the night off, the 9-year-old insisted cereal was his ‘favorite food on the planet’ because it was something that Bruce could actually handle preparing for him without setting off the smoke alarms and it made him happy to do it

It’s not a conscious choice at this point really, he just never got into the habit. When he outgrew his last car seat at age five, his parents didn’t bother getting him a booster and just let him sit in the normal seat, so the belt always felt like it was cutting into his neck and he hated it. He put up a big fuss about it once on the way to some important event, and his parents just huffed, “Fine, don’t wear it then. Fly out the window for all I care” and that was that. They never forced him again.

He just so rarely has to wear one that it slips his mind. Buses don’t have seatbelts. Motorcycles don’t have seatbelts. The Batmobile has them, but they’re rarely used due to the necessity for split-second drop ins and getaways.

It’s not until he’s 17 and driving with Jason somewhere that he finally gets called out on it. Not only called out, but told in a no nonsense sort of way “This car ain’t moving till I hear a fucking click. What, did they stop showing ‘Red Asphalt’ in drivers ed while I was dead??”

(They do still show it. Tim just slept through that class)

6) which ship fans are the most annoying?

Id say m1levens? A lot of them are young fans and ik what that's like (i was really fucking annoying about my notps when i was younger, my longer lasting moots definitly remember that even if it was on my old acc) so it's not like i hate them or anything (and tumblr is much more peaceful once u learn to let stuff wash over u + filter tags and use the block button) but as a sapphic, a lot of them give me the ick, the way they talk about not just Will/byler but even just El (a female character).

8) common fandom opinion that everyone is wrong about

This one is tricky bc comics are fucking weird when it comes to canon and characterisation but tbh i feel like Damian (Wayne, Robin, dc) has gotten past the "im the REAL son, im the BLOOD son, the ACTUAL heir" bs. Yes, he's still a lil shit and still has that "im better than you" attitude with everyone and esp his siblings but he Has matured and weve seen him refer to the other batkids as siblings on more than one occasion (he's even used their names as aliases when going undercover, which is significant bc the first time he had to do that he picked Bruce as his name and it was a whole thing). So i always get 2nd hand embarrassment + general annoyance when i see socmed fics/fake twt posts that make his url smth like "therealwayneheir" "waynesbloodson" "truewayne", etc. I wanna clarify that i love thos fics/posts, it's just the Damian url part that i always hate with a burning passion😭!

16) you can't understand why so many people like this thing (characterization, trope, headcanon, etc)

There's two that i wanna say Really badly but ill keep them to myself bc of x and y reasons. Instead ill say the next one that comes to mind.

Rei (from bnha) as a pure perfect woman and mother. You can acknowledge that she was a victim of domestic abuse while still acknowledging and showing some nuance to the fact that she BURNED her son's face and could have handled Touya's childhood better (not in the sense that it's her fault but in the sense that children come first).

small brain: dick grayson is bad at cooking

big brain: jason get fussy about cooking so dick pretends to be bad at it to rile him up cause jasons scowl is so cute

huge brain: dick now associates cooking w Jason so rarely cooks with others after his baby brothers death because its hard for him to cook alone let alone with someone else

massive brain: dick associated cooking with his mother and father and his family at halys circus so he avoided it but learnt to love it again through cooking with Jason

ginormous brain: damian enlists him to help cook some dishes Damian misses and damian helps dick get over cooking with out Jason and it become their thing

im runing out of size measurements for brains: Damian figures out why dick has complicated feeling to do with cooking and makes jason join them, and now all three do it together as brothers
