"Get ready for season 5, everyone. Because trust me, you guys are not ready for what's coming. So get ready," — Noah Schnapp.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"I think you find out slowly through the season, Will’s kind of love towards Mike and I think it’s a really beautiful thing; there is probably a mutual understanding and an acceptance,” — Finn Wolfhard about Mike’s arc in season 4.
"I think the Duffer brothers figured out, I would imagine, a perfect ending in five. We didn’t even know if we’d do two. So, we’re happy that people still are around and want to watch it. But yeah, I’m excited. Four was huge in scale, but I think I’d like to see the fifth season draw back on more of the dynamics of Season 1 and sort of be a little more contained, but also still be gigantic. I hope we kind of get an ending for each character that’s pretty satisfying for fans," — Finn Wolfhard about season 5.
"I mean, it’s pretty clear this season that Will has feelings for Mike. They’ve been intentionally pulling that out over the past few seasons. Even in Season 1, they hinted at that and slowly, slowly grew that storyline. I think for Season 4, it was just me playing this character who loves his best friend but struggles with knowing if he’ll be accepted or not, and feeling like a mistake and like he doesn’t belong," — Noah Schnapp about Will’s arc is season 4.
"There’s so many different things they have to address. Obviously, we hope for a coming out scene, and I also want to see them address this connection to the Mind Flayer and how that fits into the world. And I’ve always been wondering, why was Will the first victim and the first one captured? I just want to see it all tie in and all work out. So I’m excited to see what happens," — Noah Schnapp about season 5.

Episode 47 S5: Mana Runs too Slow and it Kills 2 People
Tumblr decided to change the way it does image posts so this is going to be my hell. I can only have max 30 "blocks" of images (yikes) and uploading all your images at once and then just adding text in between is actually not possible! (least it's a nightmare on browser. I have not figured out how to drag my text in between images, so I'm just uploading every image one by one and hoping I don't forget one)
thanks, I hate it!
Tumblr media
Peeking up at us over the horizon, our end of the world apocalypse has reached the next step of his rampage: which is to shoot glowing missiles out of it's Dragon crotch until Egypt is destroyed.
Tumblr media
Seto is doing his best to look productive, but unfortunately this is Sad Seto, who is still buffering.
Tumblr media
Just uh...give him a minute. He has to remember how to be Seto.
(read more under the cut)
I'm pretty sure Kissara told him straight up to call her whenever, and considering how few words they've ever said to each other, you'd think he'd remember the words she said like half an hour ago. Then again, he was kind of...sleeping when that happened. Or hallucinating, or dreaming, or all three.
Bakura and Yami are watching this pan out from the Shadow Game Zone, Bakura kind of nodding slowly while Yami becomes overwhelmed with embarrassment over how much everyone around him is screwing it. This is not meant to be funny, but it was very funny to me.
Tumblr media
I have brought this up before, but Bakura does bring up a good point, that this entire arc was kind of against the grain of who Yami became over the course of the last 4 seasons.
+++++STAND BACK I'M GONNA RANT, FEEL FREE TO SKIP++++
Don't get me wrong, Yami LOVES to make bad choices that end the world. But why would he continue to go back here and destroy the world of the future he knows and loves so much? Especially since it already went SO south with Dartz the last time he opened pandora's box?
He has a new identity now, he has so many friends, last arc was just so many women throwing themselves at Yugi. His life is really good! I think they could have developed more of a line of logic between last arc and this arc, but like with a lot of things in this arc, it was rushed.
So him giving up his newfound modern identity that he made all himself through hard work and friendship first off feels kinda bad. Like I'm OK with him being a new guy, he worked hard for that! Lets not go backward now.
And then him coming here to regain his old identity is sort of like the show knew what it must do, but the characters were like "nah." and then went and did it anyway seemingly at gunpoint.
And I kind of wish there was any contrast between who Yami's new identity is in the future and who Yami was in the past. It would be fascinating to dive into the fact he's now two people yet again, even though Yugi is no longer in that bean. but eh save it for the fanfiction, because they needed to end Yugioh in a certain number of episodes.
And that happens sometimes. Stories are character driven, and when you try and drive the characters, they become less like people and more like iconic symbols. Here's our hero. He must do this because he's the hero. That's it, that's the reason. Welcome to Shonen Jump.
+++++++END RANT AKA THIS ARC HAS COOL IDEAS AND I WISH IT HAD ENOUGH TIME TO DO THEM BETTER++++++++
Problem is, Yami isn't that meta. He's dumb though, so in a way it does make a little sense why he had to open the box. He dummy thin.
Tumblr media
Dummy thin and still can't read.
Tumblr media
And like in case you've jumped in here after my accidental hiatus (hello!) and not realized this, I had to binge watch the rest of the season before we cancelled our Hulu subscription. There was the option of watching it for free on the Yugioh website, but I didn't want to change my Photoshop actions.
So get ready for me to talk about how the ending of this show bothered me, for like 8 episodes. I'll try to keep it in, so we can get there when we get there.
But you can't say lines like "We were meant to be together." in the context of this arc, you can't DO that, show.
Apparently the creator of Yugioh got hospitalized while he wrote this arc, hence the dick king demon. But also it got....messy. We have like 3 seasons of development in like 8 episodes, buckle up. They did the best that they could do with the resource's given, and we'll even get to meet my favorite character a few times before it's over (the Storyboarding God that occasionally guest stars on Yugioh, love that guy)
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Back on the playing field, Yami is running out of options, when Isis informs us we can just go to McDonald's and get more McGuffins.
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Out of basically no where, Mana zips onto the screen because she's ready to have at least one girl's night before the end of the world. The contrasting energy from both Mana and Isis is peak goth babysitter vs the parrot that hides behind the couch and bites your feet.
Tumblr media
Back near Pharaoh's tomb, Yugi is still dueling over a deathpit with the child who these kids think is Ryou bakura.
This is not however, Ryou Bakura. It's sideways adjacent evil Bakura.
Tumblr media
And it didn't really matter that this plot point ever happened because it's not like Yugi, Joey, or Tea ever catch on that this isn't Ryou anyway. But at least I, the audience can feel a little bit better about the weird twist by the dub there.
Ryou is still passed out on some stone steps. He's fine.
You might be wondering "Oh so what asinine thing is Isis going to have to do to get the items back?" and uh, you're wrong actually.
Tumblr media
Turns out we could have just picked up the items in the desert at any time but I guess we forgot. I'll blame it on Shadi.
Tumblr media
Joey Wheeler, who can punch out probably anything but a ghost, chooses to hide behind Tea because he knows she can punch a ghost and I believe it, too.
Back on the surface, is a scene that would have been emotional if it hadn't been 3 minutes. it was NOT enough time to give a proper send off to our girl Isis here, and they tried, but if you imagine the Yakety Sax song playing under this death here, that's about the speed at which this girl biffed it.
Tumblr media
speaking of Yakety Sax theme, this is what was happening while Mana was crying her eyes out.,
Tumblr media
And you may ask, was it really that goofy? and yes, yes it was.
Tumblr media
and like I get it, animation and pacing are really, really hard. Parts of me wonder if maybe on paper this seemed OK. If maybe even as a storyboard this seemed OK. But something you learn quickly when doing any sort of narrative art, is that you need like 2x as much space as you think you do. Pause is an underrated godlike skill that takes a lifetime to master.
However, it still had good stills going on, it still had some lovely direction just...I mean they dropped Isis from top to bottom of that frame so freakin fast it was like she was a dropped banana hahaha.
Tumblr media
They still have to carry these items physically to the Pharaoh, and so becuase Mana is a slow runner, 2 people freakin died this episode distracting Zorc. Which is also the title of this episode because I want to send home howfreakin funny that is to me.
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Ah, back to Episode 1.
Tumblr media
So how breathtaking and epic is the Kaiju fight you ask? Well good thing for you, I capped it.
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
The look on Seto and Yami's faces about sum it up.
Tumblr media
And as quickly as he showed up to do a few silly punches, the great Exodia was cut exactly in half. Don't ask me how the card logic works for that, I have forgotten how this game works already.
Tumblr media
Mana finally makes it to Yami, cursed puzzle in hand, and that ends this episode.
Can you imagine adding 7 characters to a story knowing you have to kill all of them individually before the anime arc is over? Breakneck deaths going on here.
Sorry for all you people that were so deeply attached to Shimon, the guy who isn't even Grandpa, by the way. A moment of silence for all 4 of you.
Tumblr media
And we get back this thing. This horrible thing made out of thousands of dead people's souls. The thing that trapped him for 5000 years and launched him into the future. The only thing that can save mankind.
Tumblr media
(If I have used this Mokuba joke like this before forgive me it was like a different lifetime before I caught covid, and I will not be able to regain those memories because I cannot curse myself with a rude ass puzzle.)
The abusive relationship with the Millennium Puzzle is a whole anime college essay I would write if I had half a brain, but alas I have the immune system and fatigue of a sickly gerbil or a goldfish that feels a little bit chilly. So I will not be writing that in depth episode but like...
Think about how far we've come with this jackass puzzle. And yet, I'm supposed to forgive it? Nah I don't think I have yet. Go to hell, puzzle.
This puzzle can go straight to hell.
Anyway, if you just got here you can read these recaps in chrono order at the link here:
https://steve0discusses.tumblr.com/tagged/yugioh/chrono
PS I had to do so much assholery to get that to go to my chrono link and not my main link. They would just. Change my link. They would just change my link every time I pasted it. Tumblr you have GOT to give me my old post editor back omg.

Okay some thoughts on s5 of Merlin because I finished this show today and I'm- not ready to let go.
• I'm obsessed with how they show the characters learning and aquiring new skills through the show. Specially Merlin with his magic.
• The way nothing escapes Merlin now? he figures everything out in a heartbeat. He senses and knows everything touched by magic.
• Merlin being the ultimate mother hen with Mordred is so funny. The boy must have chills any time and turn around to find Merlin giving him the death stare.
• Fucking Mordred. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. What a dumb reason. FUCK.
• The "There is no place for magic in Camelot" made me literally bleed. Colin delivered that scene SO WELL. Painful. Just... pain.
• GWAINE I LOVE YOU SO FUCKING MUCH OH MY GOD THE BEST BESTIE THANK YOU
• Merlin without powers is so scared and please don't do that to him please that's enough slices.
• 5 bucks Gwaine knows about Merlin. Like Gwen. I mean I'm pretty sure the only ones who had no clue were Arthur and Leon.
• Can the dragon please just answer the questions instead of flying away PLEASE.
Merlin asking something to Kilgharrah and having him simply fly away has the same energy as Arthur asking Merlin if he really is wise or just a fool and Merlin just walking away dramatically as a response. Except Merlin tripped with a bucket.
• No but really, Merlin doesn't smile more than like... 5 times in season 5, he is SO worn out and tense and sad it's really heartbreaking to watch.
• Almost as heartbreaking as Arthur saying he was wrong to think Merlin was brave or pushing him away when he found out about his magic.
• He GRABBED THE BACK OF HIS HEAD SOFTLY AS HE CLOSED HIS EYES FOR THE LAST TIME.
• So Arthur doesn't know about the dragonlord part then, does he?
• IN THE SPAN OF A DAY HE WENT FROM "I WANT HIM GONE" TO "I DON'T WANT YOU TO CHANGE I WANT YOU TO ALWAYS BE YOU" AND I'M FUCKING SOBBING

Some S5 Ideas, Before Information Starts Coming Out And They Get Destroyed lol, Pt. I
Part II | Part I.V
Roughly ordered from most to least likely to actually happen, but I'm at most like 50% on any of these. Except for the first one which is a 100% :)
No one dies. Yeah, that’s right. Maiming is on the table tho.
The Duffs said we were getting the original groups back together so I’m running with the idea that our boys (and girl) spend the majority of the season as a unit. (yes, this is mostly about the party, I only think about them lmao)
Mike and El have twin arcs that center around responsibility. They are both officially named the party’s leaders who get the last say on anything the group does, specifically for dangerous situations to make sure the group works together. Technically El is the Supreme Leader who gets the final say if they disagree on anything and generally isn't argued with, but Mike is more often coming up with and overseeing plans. They both take this role very seriously, and end up putting perhaps unnecessary pressure on themselves. They both feel responsible for keeping everyone safe, to the point where they would gladly sacrifice themselves if it meant making sure no one else got hurt or died. Mike grapples with his own fears and starts to buckle under this newfound feeling of being responsible for his friends lives, while El also feels the larger responsibility of being the only person with the power to actually fix the apocalypse. Does this mean she has to be willing to do absolutely anything to fix it? Is she even actually the only solution? Does she have to prioritize saving the world over saving her friends?
Lucas of course feels horrible about “letting” max die and funnels his regret into training to make sure he never loses a fight again. As soon as they figure out a plan to get her back he’s on the warpath, and ends up making some game-winning (and very risky, much to Mike's chagrin) plays for the mission.
Will’s arc is about him finding his own self-worth, and ends with him getting to physically defeat the representation of his trauma.
Nancy teaches Mike how to shoot a gun.
Hawkins gets destroyed. I want it destroyed. The rot from the gates and the gates themselves spread over time and eventually monsters come pouring out, making the area completely inhabitable and everyone gets evacuated and the town is closed off. Of course, our heroes eventually have to sneak back into it to fix The Plot. Imagine a scene where they go to the Wheeler house looking for something and have this terrible “oh shit. Nothing is ever going to be the same again” moment as they see how broken down and destroyed everything is. Our homes are destroyed and there’s no going back. It’s like a metaphor.
Everyone ends up having to begrudgingly work with the government/military to fix Hawkins cuz I mean, there's no way they’re leaving the area of this insane alien disaster and someone on the Alien Disaster Response Team is going to know about Eleven and realize that she’s their best resource for fixing this (again lol). Our heroes agree to this because they don’t really have a choice, plus the military has a ton of resources that they can steal utilize.
I also want that timeskip. A lot of it is spent in a makeshift military base in the next town over trying to figure out how to approach the Vecna problem, who has been weirdly absent for too long. There’s very much a held-breath, dread vibe during this section.
During this lull, everyone trains to become apocalypse-ready, and El finally gets an unironic, non-trauma-based training arc to become the finely-honed, superpowered boss bitch she was always meant to be.
Also Dustin learns a good deal about field medicine, which becomes a skill that he utilizes at least once in a very life-or-death situation later.
The other half/two-thirds of the story is spent traveling to the heart of the apocalyptic Hawkins after confirming the military can’t be trusted.
Will gets slightly more utility out of his monster sensing powers/curse than just being able to tell that the giant ominous rumbling is danger, actually. He can more or less read their minds and sense where they are in an area, which allows the group to avoid or ambush them. It would also be really cool if there was some moment where he sensed some goal the monsters had and it was all spooky and cryptic, or he figures out a way to mask his presence from them and there's a tense scene where he sneaks through a heavily infested area to get to something. Idk, the show’s scifi magic system barely has rules anyway we can have fun with it.
Max gets woken up halfway through the season and has some important new information that is the key to stopping Vecna. I like the idea that she retains like 20% vision and her bones healed through the coma (and the timeskip cough), so she forces the boys to bring her with them on the final mission to end everything despite their reasonable concerns about her physical state. Just so we can have the whole group together.
Continuing the responsibility theme, the idea of El having to sacrifice herself to fix everything is brought up multiple times. She never argues with this—its clear she agrees on some level, but then when the moment comes for her to do the thing and die to save the world, she decides “fuck it, I wanna live actually” and fights her way back to her friends.
The one time someone (Dustin) is brave (dumb) enough to suggest El sacrificing herself in front of Mike he almost spontaneously combusts with rage and gets to say the one ‘fuck’ of the season. I would say lmao but its actually a very intense emotional scene ok take this seriously please.
Mike finally gets a real Violence Moment (checkhov did lend him a gun). As well as anyone else that wants one.
It would be fun to see Dustin like legitimately bitter and angry after what happened to Eddie. He blames the townspeople for Eddie’s death and generally lacks empathy for anyone opposing them. Not sure how that would wrap up for him though.
El loses her powers permanently at the end of the show. I just think it would be a good ending for her to finally get to be normal, and not have the government breathing down her back (as much) anymore.
Part II | Part I.V

an eleven + mileven analysis (a kind of character study)
i don't want a mileven breakup just because i want byler to be canon, actually my primary reason is because i want el to be on her own. i really don't think mileven super fans understand her character at all, at least past the "protagonist with telekenetic powers dating mike" - she's a child who was raised in a lab all her life and went through an immense amount of trauma before the events of the show even began.
when mike and the party found her, she could barely form coherent sentences. she was young, naive and knew nothing about the world or how it worked. mike literally had to explain how family worked to her because she didn't know. the only thing she had known was "papa" and nothing more. when mike told her how nancy was "gonna be like a sister" to her and el asked if that meant mike would be like her brother, it just clearly shows she was not at all ready to be in any kind of romantic relationship at all. and yet, mike kissed her anyway.
another point i want to make is that any time el has some good, and i mean really good character development or some kind of journey of self discovery, it's without mike. we see this happen multiple different times throughout the seasons. like season 2, when she finds a home with hopper and builds up a father-daughter relationship with him and finds a place for herself. in season 3, when she dumps mike and has the time of her life without him with max instead, she was discovering the thrills of a genuine friendship. and more importantly season 4, when she overcomes her traumatic experiences in the lab and faces brenner again. she gets her powers back and does it all without mike constantly by her side.
there's no development with mike. BOTH their characters seem to have some kind of growth or arc without each other around (el getting her powers back, mike doing his thing in california) the thing that gets in the way of that character development is their relationship. s3 they spent the majority of their screen time together making out and what we see of them in s4 is el blatantly lying to mike at the start and them arguing with each other because of issues like that getting in the way.
el is still new to the world. it's only been 3 years since she left hawkins lab and i feel that's something that gets overlooked a lot. she's barely had time to process everything, to actually live her life on her own and be free without being restrained by anyone - mike included. to me it's like her desperation to hold onto her relationship with him is because technically, it was the first normal thing she clung onto upon escaping the lab. mike. he was always there. and with trying to learn about how the world works, of course she's bound to attach herself to love, boyfriends and what was considered the "perfect" life to a lot of people around her. it was all she knew. but i reckon she's starting to realize she doesn't need to hold onto that anymore, that she can let go. mike included, his s5 arc may have him also learning to let go from something he thought he needed (bc like el, he clung onto societies ideals of a perfect, normal life) so he can realize what he wants too.
i feel that their time apart is building up for their eventual and mutual breakup, again, not because i'm so desperate to have byler canon but because it seems like the best narrative choice for them. mike can do whatever and el can finally stand on her own two feet, with nothing to hold her back so her character is free to grow.
tldr: milevens need to consider what's best for eleven and let her be her own person for once without constantly adding mike into the mix. just let her stand on her own two feet so she finally has room to grow i beg.

I love that your 6x15 meta addressed not just the parallels of Shannon and Buck as Christopher's parents but also how her memory affects Eddie. Hearing Eddie repeat "We all die alone" paired with the living funeral concept made me really appreciate that no matter how traumatic for Eddie, it was the 118 that responded when Shannon died. Despite asking for a divorce I believe Shannon still deeply cared for, even loved Eddie and being able to talk to him about their son as she knew she was dying was a comfort.
But really I'm curious as to your thoughts on this being a (comparatively) Shannon heavy season. Shannon's been referenced twice since Eddie Begins, s4 when Eddie refers to needing to change his will and in s5, not even by name when Eddie mentions her funeral was the last time Christopher wore a suit. Eddie's voluntarily brought up Shannon multiple times this season when it wasn't necessary or expected of him. Is this meant just to be another sign of healing that Eddie's working on or do you think that being able to remember her is a sign that he's ready to move on and maybe reinforces his admittance in 6x14 that he doesn't want to be alone -that showing that he thinks of his wife and the mother of his child is indication of him wanting a partner and co parent.
...and perhaps the complicated and less than ideal relationship he had with Shannon prevents him from fully recognizing what he already has with Buck.
Hi lovely! Thank you so much for the kind words!
Putting together the bits about Eddie (and Shannon) in my 614, 615 and 616 meta, I think the show is trying to address why, even though Eddie has seemingly been trying to date again since season 4a, he still hasn't been able to really move on, and that when you want to be in a relationship (because Eddie is so clearly full of love that he wants to give, whether to his son, to his best friend, or to an acknowledged romantic partner) and for some reason you're not actually allowing yourself to enter into one, that DOES take a toll. As much as we KNOW Eddie isn't alone, that Buck is there for him and Chris, that's still not the same as being in an explicitly romantic relationship, where you get to cuddle together, and kiss (not to mention getting to have sexy times). Even while Buck and Eddie are life partners in so many ways that VERY MUCH COUNT and are NOT the norm for best friends, there are still things, ways of expressing and receiving love, that they have not yet shared. And in that sense, there is something that Eddie is missing.
So he needs to go through this arc of recognizing the impact of Shannon's loss on him and how to move on, not from her, but from that. And as I said in my latest meta, I do believe that how Eddie spoke about her in 616 is an indication that he's getting there. So yes, if they want to have him and Buck overcoming their last obstacles to realizing what they have and what they feel for each other and what they COULD have together? This is def ideal for that.
Thank you so much, I hope you have a wonderful day! As always, here's my ask tag. xoxox

winx SEASON 5 gives me physical pain part III
And here I am back again complaining about s5 and ignoring all the asks I'm flattered by and not yet ready to answer shame on me
EP 5x5
my bbs being fancy right in the beginning of the show
sad that Flora needs to think of Helia to believe in herself. Shouldn't self belief come from the inside and not your boyfriend?
tbh I lost my notices from this ep but I will say, that I can totally relate to Mitzi rooting for the Trix. Yet again, bitch move, bitch shame on you (but come on if you had your whole lifetime an argument with bloom, you'd too root for the people who try to harm her)
EP 5x6
Faragonda does nothing but sitting in her room and wants to see the Sirenix Book. This woman has the most chill job ever. Does nothing, gets it all
Diaspro got a new voice :(((( [German dub, the old voice was the same as Kim Possible's and I always loved that]
Haha, bye Bloom you're out
Tumblr media
we're in the midst of the episode and suddenly Faragonda has a new voice too [still German dub] what happened to the old one? It was perfect??
okay the winx are THE BEST fairies of Alfea and therefore of course go on the mission.... also a funny coincidence that just now as we need a tool to open the Sirenix book this contest takes place..
I'm #team gothfairies
Tumblr media
Wait I am not. The Trix come around and are sassy and evil and the #gothfairies do nothing? I thought they were THE BEST fairies? Transformation you guys? You should at least have Enchantix if you are THE BEST from your school
magical strawberries, flora are you fkn kidding me? we know that the target audience gets younger by every season post s3 but MAGICAL STRAWBERRIES come on
Icy vs Horsey, sorry queen, you just lost all your sympathies for hurting lil horsey
ughhhh the horse got UGLY. Icy, love, you are allowed to fight this ugly creature
Tumblr media
sirenix book: to find the first gem you have to prove that you have the virtue of self confidence - so Flora will fail with this one
what an ugly barbie pink plastic yacht

Layla is green again! (Harmonix)

Oh my god, how are they gonna arrange the schedules? If Finn has Ghost Busters 2 then it means he's gonna be filming that for months, and what about the other schedules then 😅? I sometimes wonder if the show will just come out in 2025 bc of different schedules and bc the actors either have different projects or are busy with smth else
I know it's super disappointing, but it's very possible s5 won't premiere until 2025!
I answered an ask about this a while back, but basically if we're wanting s5 to be top notch quality, then settling for a s5 release in 2025 is what we're looking at.
Finn made the comment that he was looking forward to being able to drink with some of his cast-mates at the next premiere since he'll now be of age this time around, and he wont be 21 until December 2024... Unless they plan on premiering that literal month, the premiere probably wont be until the following year some time (early 2025).
Noah also made a comment about it when asked if it was coming out soon, and he basically just changed the subject saying that they're main priority is doing the story justice by ensuring it's all well done and satisfying.
Netflix has not come out to give a year for release yet and it's because they are probably pretty sure it will be 2025, but they know it's going to piss people off so they're going to wait a little bit before breaking the news.
Also just thinking about filming scheduling like you said, it takes a lot longer than it usually does for a number of reasons. I'm pretty sure s1 only needed like 6-7 months to film and only like 3-4 months for post-production. But the level of the story was so much less grand. We also had actors that had no experience and so therefore there wasn't much demand in trying to fit with their schedule bc they had no other work.
But now they're all A and B listers with crammed schedules.
We're talking 10+ months of filming and AT LEAST 8+ months of post-production. Best case scenario they would be ready for a premiere by DEC 2024 at the earliest! That gives them a lot of wiggle room assuming there could be delays and what not.
Remember they didn't finish filming for s4 until Sept. 2021, which means they needed about 8 or so months for post-production with the May 27th, 2022 premiere.
When we're talking about like major CGI dragon battles potentially, we're looking at the high end of the spectrum for time spent of VFX in post-production, so something close to what we saw for s4, more or less (about 8 months).
And then you have to think about all the planning that goes into the promotion and the advertising and contracts with products that is planned months/years in advance and that all rolling out to get people pumped.
Then there's also the fact that their choice of when to release it usually has to be sort of unique.
It has to premiere on a Friday, and it has to preferably be at at time that works best for Netflix in combination with all of their other releases.
There are no interesting Friday dates in late 2024... The most interesting date I can find is Friday March 21st, 2025, which would allow for the release to match up with the setting of the show (especially if we're circling back to birthdaygate and what happened in early s4 that was misconstrued bc of will's unreliable narrator arc).
Also... arguably we want a later release bc then it means we get to be here a little bit longer. Bc once this is over, it's over forever. The end!
ST5 in 2025 wouldn't be the worst thing in the world, assuming that promotion for that season would start as early as late 2024 and also be really consistent leading up to it, followed by us getting it and having to, only to move on forever.
It's kind of sad thinking about it. I don't want to.
Also it's possible we could get split into two volumes again bc this is the end and they really want to milk the excitement of it. Having it premiere once and be done is only ensuring like one month of hype, whereas 2 volumes split up between a 2-3 month period ensure like 4 months of hype, and that's a good way to end things with a bang.
Maybe we'll get lucky with a vol one in late 2024 and a vol 1 in early 2025? We'll have to wait and see as we get closer!
All I know is it wont be 2026, so we can just rest knowing that's not a possibility... right?

happy wincest wednesday!! what's the best and worst season for sam to knock up his sister?
happy wincest wednesday vicky!!!! omg thank you for this extremely tailored-to-me ask. i've only seen 1-6, so i can only answer for those.
i love all interpretations of when sam & dean(na) give into their feelings for each other, but i'm personally a post-in my time of dying truther, and think they had sex for the first time in wake of john's death.
oh, my god, this got long:
best season: i'll go with season 2 despite the eventual devastation. because lets face it, their lives are always a mess. but in s2, sam's grief over jess has lessened, and i think he'd finally be ready to reconcile his feelings for his sister. almost losing her in the truck accident and losing john is a lot for him to handle – and we know sam is an internalizer; despite deanna's unwillingness to discuss things, she certainly wears her heart on her sleeve – but sex is something that can happen without words.
i think the conception sex happens after 2x04 children shouldnt play with dead things. deanna finally admits she's having trouble dealing with john's death – that she feels it's her fault, even – and apologizes for her recent behavior. and then follows it up with:
[...]You're the most important people in my life. And now … I never should've come back, Sam. It wasn't natural. And now look what's come of it. I was dead. And I should have stayed dead. You wanted to know how I was feeling. Well, that's it. So tell me. What could you possibly say to make that all right?
oh boy that is a prime lead-in to some in the backseat of the impala lovemaking. no time to bother with a condom. they want to feel each other. a couple months later, it's obvious that deanna's pregnant. and tbh, i think her first instinct would be to get rid of it. (side note: it is my personal hc that john and/or others have knocked her up in the past, and she's gotten rid of it every time. it's the most practical thing to do for a hunter. otherwise you end up with situations like john's or the harvelles). but this is sam's baby. and sam's having visions. deanna's rattling around john's "save sam or kill him" instructions in her brain. playthings happens, and deanna is more sure of her brother being it for her than ever (side note – every ask if they're a couple this season gets even better with dee's pregnant belly in the way).
and sam...sam quietly doesn't argue when deanna wants to keep it, because he's scared of what's to come, and wants deanna to have a peace of him when he's gone.
(another side note: what is and what never should be fully includes a domestic fantasy for deanna in this 'verse).
ahbl is devastating of course, but oh god the wack morality of deanna deciding the deal is worth it because now sam will have a peace of deanna with him when she goes to hell. she convinces herself she's doing it for them both.
them having a child would have s3 play out totally differently, imo. sam wouldn't trust ruby so blindly (possibly going so far as to kill her, become king of hell to save deanna and their child). not that sam doesn't fiercely care for dean in canon, as that's his driving force for his actions in s3, but with a kid on the line? they can't do anything for themselves and they need their mom!! sam's mother is his biggest blank in his life, and he doesn't want [child] to have that too. especially because they both would have died to a deal to save their loved one (not that sam knows that yet).
worse: obvious answer is halfway through s3, because the child would not survive the season finale, and lilith would fully taunt sam over this, driving sam even deeper into his demon blood revenge mission. the wedge in the beginning of s5 drives even deeper because they have this unspoken thing between them, and deanna can't hide her emotions but neither will talk about them.
BUT! i think s6 provides another interesting answer. soulless sam knocking up his sister? he has no qualms about fucking raw, and she can just abort it if she gets pregnant! oh, she wants to keep it? fine, her prerogative. he has other things to take care of. this, i think, is devastating for deanna. and OH GOD, when sam comes back. sam's lack of autonomy is already a very sad and very fascinating theme throughout spn, and look what his body did without his knowledge. he's overjoyed for a child with deanna i think, but constantly grappling with the implications.
thanks for the ask!!!!

Listen listen listen I am going fucking feral over that kitchen scene but the thing is
I have forever been going back and forth on who figures out they're in love first
BUT THE THING IS
I have now firmly settled on Eddie being the one to realize it first
I CANNOT look at his face in that scene, his face in the kitchen at 118 when Buck confronts Bobby about picking Lucy, his face at the car dealership just his face ANYTIME buck is in the vicinity
I cannot look at that and label that as anything but the look of a man who is in love with his best friend and knows it and is just biding his time because his best friend isn't quite there yet but that's okay because Eddie just wants Buck, and is just endlessly delighted by Buck and their family and the romance part of it is almost secondary just because Buck fits no matter whether they're platonic or romantic
And also of the inevitable love confession happens anywhere but a kitchen I will eat every left shoe I own
oh i'm 100% with you on this anon!!!! i think if you'd asked me post-season 2/3 i would've said buck knew first. but actually since the appearance of Heart Eyes Diaz in s4 and eddie's entire journey in s5, i feel like there's something so incredibly...comforting about eddie realising it first???? idk how to explain it properly or if that's the right word but i love the idea of eddie knowing he loves buck and that just being enough??? like it doesn't scare him and he doesn't necessarily feel the need to tell buck yet, he's just content to sit with that feeling for a while. and he'll say it when he feels like buck is ready to hear it?
idk i just adore characters who know they're going to get together but are also happy to wait until it's the right time??????? it's the best kind of anticipation and tension imo
(in contrast i want buck to be absolutely bowled over when eddie finally confesses his feelings bc buck's loved eddie so deeply for so long he's never let himself question what that means)
having said all that, while i do love the significance of the kitchen, i'm a couch-love-confession gal all the way aksdjfh it just feels right to me!!!!!!!!!

I like reading theories here (and i like to theorize on my own too) but I just kinda wish there was more "realistic" Bylers here who theorize about what actually migh happen in terms of character arcs and story and relationships in the next season. Because when it all comes down to it, we will have to arrange our expectations regarding what is most likely to appear on our screens in S5. And I just feel like there are not many blogs doing or considering that. I especially agree with you on this-- reading Bylers' analyses and theories before vol2 really meddled with my expectations and it feels like the majority of our fandomside just went overboard and focused on what they wanted to see instead of what was likely going to happen or happening in story's direction and that is why the majority of Bylers misunderstood things or just got very disappointed or got shocked by what happened.
I feel like majority of the Bylers are still misreading some things in the plot (that being Mike's characterization most of all) and that because of that reason, many people will get blindsided again in S5 like they have in vol2. Because people expect and want to see certain and specific things about characters and plot, and they are setting themselves up, so it kinda feels like ppl just going to be disappointed again by certain things due to them not actually considering Duffers' intentions and writing style/choices.
That is why I wish there were more "realistic" Byler blogs in this fandom who do not go overboard or do not get too attached to their headcanons and do not build up way too specific expectations based on those-- i feel like it would honestly be the best way to get ready for S5 and arrange our expectations in this community for what is likely to come in the next season.
I agree! Honestly, I can appreciate people wanting characters to be the kind of people they can relate to or enjoy (or more specifically fleshed out than this ensemble cast of characters allots for sometimes), but when you combine that with a sense of "I know better than the writers" a lot of people have, it leads to either vast disappointment or bitterness, which...idk. Maybe I'm just good at managing my hyper-fixations with logic/ who The Duffers are as people, which makes me more lenient LMAO
Especially in terms of the Mike characterization bit / how a lot of theories don't really align with the narrative so much as their desired characterization of him...I can deeply empathize with why people think certain things about him, but the way I see a lot of people still analyzing based on single looks from Finn in S1 scenes or off of another post where someone cherrypicked 45 seconds of a scene without the whole episode or season as context...like, I just feel like they're setting themselves up for upset. I obviously also have my own preferred interpretations and I do definitely think some people are better at pulling and synthesizing important bits of the narrative / details into a sensical way than others, but...like I said in another ask, I'm not holding anything with an iron fist.
Lately I've just stopped waiting for other people's analyses for any new knowledge + have started working on my own Mike analysis (kind of a companion / extension of this concept I started for Will + Dustin) where I talk through the narrative setup of his character for S5, less so than whether or not I want him to be gay/bi/end up acting first etc (just because....be the change you wanna see in the world LMFAO). I've already written several posts about my perception of Mike's arc + his characterization outside of any strict interpretation of things like Finn's looks or his labeled sexuality, and...that's how I'll continue to process his character for as long as it makes sense to lol.
--I'm also entirely unsure how I became the spot people went to talk through their feeling weird about how theories are made in this fandom, but! I appreciate you all trusting me with your honest opinions haha

Do you ever remember how close EZ and Coco were but for some reason the writers just... stopped including that? Like the season where Coco could have really used a friend, they had him and EZ have a moment alone, but neither bring up their friendship. They hardly say anything to each other.
I know it kinda has to do with Coco's decline but it's frustrating because it gave them both a bit more depth. It also showed how the mc does bring people together to some extent and help people form bonds between the members. Like EZ came in, new as hell, and he showed his loyalty and care to Coco and Coco never forgot that. I loved loved *loved* the Era of Coco and EZ being pals. It was so... idk. It was nice. EZ who's smart as hell having Coco who is introspective as a friend opened up a whole new way of thinking for EZ. In fact, he even started parroting Coco's "deep thoughts" which got him teased by his older brother for spending too much time with Coco.
Coco overall as a character is an amazing example of the writers just not knowing what to do with a character they clearly cared about at one point. Like they give him this amazing setup. In the first season, Coco is a star! He is a massive part of the plot. You can't *not* love him! He's deeply flawed, but so is everyone else in the mc. He connects with EZ, we know he is Angel's best friend. But season 2 came around (before the writers changed of course) and already Coco was sidelined. He barely came out season 2. There were a couple moments but not like the first season. Then season 3 came around. We got new writers. And a new Coco. This Coco is barely built from past Coco. I respect what the writer was trying to do with Coco, but he wasn't Coco. He lacked everything that made him feel like Coco. Season 4 came along and he could have been more Cococore but he wasn't. He still felt-- off. So when everything happened in s4, it didn't hurt. It didn't feel like it was happening to *our* Coco. It was happening to a Coco we didn't recognize. Also not to mention the writing around that plot was INCREDIBLY cheesy. So much so it ruined what could have been a heartbreaking conclusion to a character.
One more thing before I post this, s3 and s4 (hopefully not s5) showed that the writers do not know how to write friendships or bonds. They never have the mc interact. When they do it feels shallow and odd. Characters don't feel like characters, rather, chameleons that mirror/mimick whoever they are interacting with. Losing Coco and EZ's friendship was just a casualty of the new showrunner not knowing how to write anything but angst. Him not knowing what people loved about these characters and show in the first place. I'm not saying the 1st showrunner was good, in fact, fuck him entirely, but at the very least he knew how to form bonds between his characters (when he chose to, which he interestingly rarely did for his brown mc but LOVED doing for his white mc😒).
Anyways, I adore M*yans... I do. The show got me through a really tough time in my life, but I'm saddened by where it has ended up. There’s so much wasted potential with this show. I will be sad watching its last season, but I'll also be ready to say goodbye.

If the intention for Hannibal S4 was to have both an 'inversion of S1' and also 'Will losing his mind', doesn't that seem contradictory? Will was already losing his mind in S1 due to encephalitis and Hannibal's machinations; how then, is it possible to create an inversion of S1 with that in mind? A 'reinvention' I could imagine, but an inversion? It seems like an odd word choice.
Another ask:  Do you think if season 4 ever happens that Hannibal will end up turning on Will? Bryan Fuller has stated in interviews that in his script for season 4 it taken another look at their relationship and that Will Graham is not in his right mind and most of it would take place in his broken mind palace. I get the feeling that Will may come to resent Hannibal for breaking him or that Will just may end up being to crazy for Hannibal afterall. What do you think would happen with them?
-----------------------
Since these asks concern S4 and similar ideas, I decided to combine them.
What can I say, anon(s), I absolutely agree that the idea of Will being out of his mind in S4 doesn’t make much sense. We’ve already seen that in S1. The whole point of 3 seasons was for Will to understand who he is and embrace it. He finally does it in the last episode, so I have no idea why Bryan would want to throw him back into the cauldron of uncertainty and self-doubt. That's exactly why I'm satisfied with S3 and don't want S4: I don't want to see more unbalanced Will when his Becoming and the Fall were supposed to signify a start of a new life. There are real arcs that have to develop in a real world, not in a mix of Mind Palace and dreams. Return of ghosts, obfuscation - I have no doubt it would look amazing, but actually seeing it as a plot? Not my idea of what I want from S4.
I don’t think and will never believe that Hannibal could ever turn on Will. Hannibal lives and breathes at his command by TWOTL, he’s been willing to die for Will repeatedly; he was ready to risk spending eternity in prison for the chance that Will might come back to him one day. So this is not an option I consider realistic.
Bryan said a great variety of things about what S4 could be about over the years, to the point where it's nearly impossible to form one coherent picture. But it doesn’t mean we can’t try! Here’s my attempt.
According to Bryan’s words ever since the show ended, here are the major ideas that had to happen in the future:
1) Will being behind the veil with Hannibal, firmly turning away from the ‘light’ side once and for all.
2) Will and Hannibal being in Cuba and having “adventures” as well as going after Margot and Alana together.
3) Mind Palace, hallucinations, and search for self stuff.
4) Will being out of his mind in S4 and being happy in S5.
5) Hannibal manipulating Will in S4.
As a theory: Will is going to feel drunk on his newfound darkness and freedom in S4. He was repressed for so long that now that he Became, he’ll be losing his focus and drowning in his own preferences, forgetting what they were and turning into a much more vicious monster any of us expected. He’ll be chasing the high he felt from killing Francis and failing to find it. He’ll be surrounded by blood, his past victims (hence the return of everyone dead, like Bryan mentioned), and more madness. A part of him will want to impress Hannibal, to prove that he’s a worthy partner (which is supported by Will seeking Hannibal’s approval throughout the show - the way he glances at him after biting Cordell is a good example; the way he has low self-esteem and knows Bedelia failed Hannibal’s expectations). So he’ll be acting more and more violently.
Hannibal will see that Will is losing himself in a new way. He won’t want to start a physical relationship with him (which Bryan mentioned) because he’ll be afraid that it isn't for the right reasons, that Will is too far gone to made decisions. So, he’ll feel like the best therapy would be to push Will even more and make him realize that he’s approaching their new life from the wrong angle, to make him figure out that this isn't the kind of killer he wants to be. To do this, Hannibal’s manipulation will entail them going after Alana and Margot.
Will won’t be fond of the idea but Hannibal will manipulate him into accepting it, intending it as a test that will finally make Will snap out of his state. So Will will initially help hunt them down but then he’ll realize this isn’t what he wants to do. Hence finally getting his mind back and being happy in S5.

When st started focusing on romantic relationships/pairing everyone up, the show started to go a little downhill for me tbh. We were so robbed of seeing El and her relationship with hopper as he learns to be more emotionally vulnerable with her, or them and the byers(specifically Joyce and El and will and El) interact, or even just... The party being friends?? They put so much focus on boring romance drama when they could've shown everyone being friends with each other like in s1/2. Like.. will literally said they had no idea where Dustin was the whole time and nobody even cared.. it made it a bit hard to believe they were all supposed to be close in s4. I just hope with s5 centering the original s1 dynamics and all that we see more of this shine through(I'd love to see el, Lucas, and Erica interact and lean on each other for support during max's coma). I don't think I can go through another season of "Mike and El have problems"
Hey anon! Yes that's totally fair, I agree with a lot here. I would've loved to see a lot more family time (a ton more El and Hopper in s3, more El with the Byers in s4, I'm sooo annoyed that in such a long season we didn't get a single scene of the Byers and El interacting before Mike came, I need to know the Joyce-El dynamic better, I need to see El and Jonathan being siblings) and more of the original Party spending time all together in s3.
I think that in s3, even though we did see Dustin going off on his own and strengthening friendships with Steve, Robin, and Erica for most of the season, the fact that this happened was addressed by Will in the rain fight with Mike, and we saw Mike course correct and being very close with Dustin in 4x01 and presumably has been since they reunited at Starcourt Mall. And even though they were separated for most of the season, it really was only for a couple of days after Dustin came back from summer camp, that wasn't going to disrupt their years long friendship going into s4.
I like a lot of the romantic storylines, and although like most Byler shippers, I'm ready for Mike and El to break up asap in s5, I feel like the show has done a good job of balancing the plot lines. While s3 and s4 was full of Mike and El having problems, that in itself was a good way for their relationship to be a plot point while still giving us a ton of friendship time between the party: Mike teaming up with Lucas and experiencing turmoil with Will in s3, and pairing up with Will, Jonathan, and Argyle in s4. I do wish we'd gotten a bit more of Lucas with the party and not just with Max in s4, more resolution to his justified anger about them not showing up to the basketball game, them apologizing for that better, and exploring why he wanted to be popular.
And I think in some ways, this discomfort with the last couple seasons is likely on purpose. We're supposed to be sick of how Mike is acting and his relationship with El. The fact that a ton of the GA sees it this way tells me that we're being set up for a big shift, a big reveal to help us understand why a huge relationship in the show is so frustrating. It mimics the feelings of a boy in love with his best friend who's trying to date this girl he thinks he should like. It's unsatisfying, frustrating, and Mike and the GA are about to put their fingers on why exactly that is, which will be a huge relief to both Mike and audience.
Similarly, we're supposed to want to see the party all together after s3 and s4. They split the party up in s3, gave us a small reunion at Starcourt before the fight, and then split the team up again more permanently as the Byers moved. We are aching and missing the party being back together just like the characters are missing each other. Which is why s5 will feel like such a relief with everyone back together.
We're in the rough middle chapter of the story (similar to how the Duffers said s4 was 'The Empire Strikes Back' of the story: everyone loses, things have taken a turn for the worse, it's a bit unsatisfying initially because we want things to be just right and they're not yet), but we're being set up to have a lot of that frustration and tension resolved in s5.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts!! 🙂

so what are your thoughts on s4, and vol. 2 in particular? thoughts on will x mike? will you want to watch s5?
I'm absolutely going to watch S5! However, thinking of the time between seasons and where I am in my personal life, I'm not sure if I'll be as... active as I am now. But I'll still watch it and enjoy it, no doubt. This has been a part of my life for a long time so I have to see it through.
I mentioned it briefly in my previous post, but I thought this season was excellent. The production quality was amazing, and though they overdid the music a little, I loved the soundtrack and the use of contemporary songs to underscore plot points. I also enjoyed the stories from a general perspective. Hawkins was by far the strongest subplot, but the lab did give it a run for its money, at times. I'm perhaps in the minority who think that we didn't quite need as much lab time, because it was so much build up for what we already could infer, and I thought the doubling up of El being bullied by the other numbers was... on the nose. Still, I enjoyed it. We'll ignore the California plot.
I think what this season did well was the atmosphere. It also used some heavy topics to drive the story forward and it never felt gratuitous. I loved that they made it clear that they're 'not kids anymore', which felt like an authentic continuation from S3's central qualms.
Mike and Will are complicated for me, because I still see the potential there, and if that makes me a clown, I'll own that fact. Many of their scenes were wonderfully done and both Finn and Noah totally knocked it out of the park, acting wise. Noah with his trembling eyes will always get me; I'll admit I got a bit misty watching his anguish play out on screen.
However, they definitely rushed their relationship. Considering the consideration paid to Lumax (which was the standout of the season, in my view), this fell flat.
BUT. And this is me being able to see many sides of the coin... I do wonder how many more scenes they could have written of Mike and Will essentially having the same conversation over and over without it being clear that there's a romantic undercurrent and that's what the hold up is? I mean, it's obvious to anyone with eyes that Will is head-over-heels for Mike, and you could say that Mike is... while not quite oblivious, I think he's choosing to squash that knowledge down because he's just got Will back as a friend and he's not ready for that next hurdle just yet. I've seen some people call Mike homophobic for this, which I don't quite understand. He's doing his best.
In all, I think that many of the core partnerships went unresolved, namely Jonathan/Nancy and Mike/Will. Even Mike/El, to an extent, but that is a separate post. Does this mean we'll finally get an S5 pay-off? That would be nice. I won't hold my breath, but I would enjoy that very much. So... let's hope.
