omg James and Lily's last sunset with Harry would be brutally angsty ;_;
AHHHH IKR that was my original idea cause the date '1981, Oct 31st' , is enough in itself to bring the tears- let alone imply it was the last sunset James and Lily ever watched with Harry... i was going to sew on the back like a message scrawled in 'Lilys' writing saying something like "Harrys first Halloween" or something to that effect

Remus had always made sure Y/n felt loved, giving her the affection of two parents even though he was alone to raise her. But the thing is she never knew who was her other parent, she knew she had another dad but didn’t know anything else.
Every time she tried to ask for some information about him, Remus would brush it off and change the subject, uncomfortable and after a few attempts and her father becoming angrier and angrier every time, she gave up.
Y/n had enough love from Remus but wished she could know about her other dad, why he wasn’t there anymore? Was it her fault? She was three years old when Y/n and her father lost touch but with the adoption process, she had only known each other for a year.
She was now in her fifth year and Remus was a teacher at Hogwarts for the first time and she couldn’t be happier. They now could see each other every day and Y/n was there to take care of him during the full moons since she spent her previous year becoming an animagus even if Remus was against it.
But Y/n could tell something was off, it was probably because of this Sirius Black who escaped from Azkaban. After all, it was his fault if James and Lily were dead. Remus made that very clear so Y/n ‘wouldn’t try to find him’ which Y/n found quite weird, why would she try to find a killer?
But as she was heading to Remus’ study on Sunday and almost knocked at the door, she heard him talk with McGonagall. “I can’t do this anymore Minnie” Y/n kneeled on the ground to watch the scene by the doorlock.
Remus was leaning against a desk in the classroom and McGonagall was standing in front of him, smiling softly, with empathy.
“She asked so much about her father” his voice broke as he looked at the ground, his hand against his face. Y/n stopped breathing, she wanted to know what the two adults were talking about. “You don’t want to tell her?”
Remus sighed “She wants to know about her dad. What would I look like telling her the one she waited for twelve years is Sirius Black. What would I look like Minnie?” a tear fell on his cheek. Y/n fell backwards, shocked. She couldn’t register what she had just heard.
Y/n stood up and ran to her dorm, she laid on her bed, overthinking the entire night. At the same time, she understood Remus but maybe she would have prefered knowing Sirius was her dad. Thousands of thoughts were rushing into their mind. She didn’t know what to believe, what to think.
The following day, she was still locked in their thoughts and Remus could tell it “What’s wrong, lil wolf?” he asked as they were walking the gardens. She didn’t know if she could tell him but she was encouraged by the soft look he was giving them and knew Remus would not give up.
“W-why you didn’t tell me about Sirius Black being my dad?” Remus’ heart missed a beat and his eyes widened “Oh well, I didn’t want you to know you’re other father was an assassin. The assassin who escaped from Azkaban.”
Y/n smiled softly “That’s not your fault” she wrapped her arms around her father who buried his face in her hair “You’re the best daughter I could ever have” he kissed her hair and Y/n let herself relax in the security of his neck.
“Can you tell me about him… before all this?” she asked softly and Remus stayed silent for a few minutes “He was really beautiful and really funny. You make me think of him sometimes, the way you shout the music that you love, the way you do your eyeliner and tie up your hair? A copy of Sirius. You remind me of him when you stand up for the people you love and the people who are not daring to talk” she could hear Remus’ smile as he spoke
She hesitated before asking another question “You still love him right?” Remus stopped, his lips against her forehead “The man I knew then? Yes. And I miss him. But the killer and betrayer he is now? No.”
The both of them stayed like this “I love you, Y/n. So please, don’t try to find him. Don’t trust him if he finds you, okay?” Remus tilted her head, his hands on her cheeks, making sure she was honest and looking into his eyes. Sirius had been found near Hogwarts and Remus was more worried than ever. He didn’t Y/n to be in a dangerous position because of her father. Y/n nodded. “You promise me?” she smiled “I promise you, dad”
:・゚✧*:・゚
A few days after Y/n was searching for her father so they could eat together at Hogsmeade. But when she entered his room she found him staring at a map “Hi dad” he turned his head and smiled, tiring his eyes off the map “Hi lil wolf”
Y/n could see he was thinking about something “You’re okay?” She sat next to him “You know I told you about the group I had with James, Peter and Sirius?” Y/n nodded, interested in whatever was concerning her father’s teenage years.
“This is the map we created,” he told her as he slid the parchment paper onto the table. Y/n stared at it “The marauders?” she asked with a little smile.
Remus let out a little laugh “Yeah. That map shows where everyone is at Hogwarts.” Y/n took the map in her hands “It’s so cool!” she said, a beam on her face, scrutinising every corner possible “Yeah but…” Remus didn’t finish his sentence.
Y/n lifted her head “But?” Remus took a deep breath “Harry, that’s him who found it, said it shows Peter Pettigrew” the younger wizard furrowed her brows “It’s maybe broken.”
Her father chuckled a little and shook his head “No. It’s never wrong. Peter’s really alive.” Y/n placed her hand on his shoulder, rubbing it slowly “So… Sirius didn’t kill him” her eyes widened and her mouth opened in shock “Does that mean he’s innocent?”
“Yeah,” he said with a little smile, his eyes watering. Y/n got up, wrapping her arms around his shoulders “That’s great news” she said, crying too.
Remus shrugged and muttered “He spent twelve years in Azkaban for nothing” Y/n spent the next hours reassuring Remus who felt really guilty for leaving his husband in jail and thinking he was culpable. He regretted the hours he spent crying about the death of Peter when it was him the culprit.
:・゚✧*:・゚.
Today was the full moon, and like every full moon since the beginning of the year, Y/n was helping her dad with the transformation even if he only transformed into a wolf, thanks to the potion. This was the best thing because Y/n was a wolf animagus, it was maybe a sign since Remus was a werewolf and Sirius a big dog. She was really their daughter. But as they were outside, ready to join the Shrieking Shack, they heard voices.
Remus stopped and Y/n turned around “What?” the professor’s eyes widened “This voice” he rushed and opened the door. There he found Sirius Black lying on the ground with Harry over him, menacing him with his wand.
Remus didn’t hesitate before disarming the boy who quickly stood up, joining his friends. “Well, well Sirius looking rather ragged aren’t we?” he smiled, not quite believing what was happening “Finally, the flesh reflects the madness within”
Sirius was smiling and he let out a little chuckle “Well, you’d know all about the madness, wouldn’t you Remus?” Remus smiled even more and helped Sirius stand up, capturing him in a tight hug. They pulled away lightly, their lips brushing.
But at the same moment, his stare fell on Y/n. He could recognise her in a crowd of thousands of people. The sandy-haired man pulled away, letting the two have a proper meeting.
Sirius opened his arms and Y/n ran into the hug. He held her close, he waited for this for so long. Twelve years without seeing your child was so hard, especially when you don’t have any news. But here they were, hugging for the first time in a while.
“You grew up so much, wolfie!” he exclaimed. Y/n wiped a tear falling from her eye “I’m so happy to see you!” Sirius cried in her neck.
“I trusted you!” Hermione broke the sweet moment. Y/n would do anything to defend her dad, she didn’t find him to lose him again “He’s innocent!!” she shouted, her brows furrowed, standing in front of Sirius to protect him even though he was taller.
He was looking at her with the softest eyes ever, he was so proud of her. “But he’s a werewolf!” Hermione added, pointing at the other man and Y/n took a step forward “Don’t. You. Dare.” she warned.
Remus had a little smile, he’d never been prouder of her “Lil wolf, it’s gonna be fine” he said, his hand on her shoulder. She turned her head “I don’t want you to be treated like that” she whispered. He cradled her face, thumbing her cheek “Don’t worry”
“My dad is maybe a werewolf but it doesn’t change anything!”  “You’re with him?” Harry asked Remus and Y/n “You’re with Voldemort! That’s your fault if my parents died! ” he accused. “No! We're not, Harry!” Sirius answered.
“My papa is innocent. It’s Peter! Peter is still alive! Harry you saw him on the map!” The interest was confused, he tilted his head “Peter lied?” Y/n nodded “Yes!”
She was staying protectively in front of her dads and Sirius kept her close “Thank you Y/n” he said his hand on her shoulder.
Unfortunately, this other tender moment was broken by Snape storming into the room “Expelliarmus!” he got closer to Sirius “Ah Severus, you still play with that chemistry set of yours?” he teased and Y/n couldn’t contain herself when Snape started to threaten her dads “Stupify!” the potion teacher was thrown away, landing on the dusty bed.
Sirius looked at her, beaming “I’m so proud of you, Wolfie!” Remus sent them a look “Sirius.” he raised his eyebrows with a warning look on his face.
“Then who is the culprit?” Harry asked Sirius. The latter turned to face Ron and pointed to him “It’s him!! I’ve waited for twelve years. I want to kill him now!!” he hated having to act like this in front of his daughter but he couldn’t do it anymore. “Me?” Ron asked terrified.
Sirius rolled his eyes “No, not you! The rat!” Scabbers started to squirm on the ginger boy’s lap. “Give me the rat” he ordered and Ron shook his head “No! I don’t want you to kill him! It doesn’t make any sense!”
Y/n sighed and tore the rat away before handing him to Remus. Scabbers turned into his real appearance “Ooh, you’re so pretty, you look like both of your dads” Peter said and Y/n cringed away “Yuk! You didn’t get the principle of adoption”
“Get off her!” Sirius and Remus warned, their wands aiming at their old friend. “You’re not going to kill me?” Y/n rolled her eyes “Shut up! It’s up to Harry” she turned her head to face the boys “We’re not going to kill him. He deserved a dementor’s kiss.”
Peter became even paler, the little smile he had at the beginning of Harry’s sentence faded quickly. They finally walked out of the Shrieking Shack, Remus keeping Peter close, Sirius and Y/n next to each other with the biggest smile ever on their faces, the three younger wizards in front of them with Ron rambling about his injured leg and Hermione rolling her eyes playfully.
But as they set food outside Sirius and Y/n looked at the moon, it was full. “Dad!” Remus turned his head “Did you take the potion?” Usually, Y/n and Remus would go past the Whomping Willow and he would drink the potion that his daughter kept.
However tonight, as Remus shook his head, she barely had time to pull the potion out of her pocket that the transformation had begun. While Sirius was trying to calm his husband Y/n was looking at the scared teenagers “Bring Peter to Dumbledore or McGonagall! Whoever! Just bring him!”
They didn’t move as they watched her transform into a big grey wolf. But she spotted Peter as he turned into his animal form and grabbed him into her paw strongly. She looked at him and didn’t know if he was dead or unconscious but she had a bigger deal right now.
She looked at Harry, hoping he’d understand he have to take the rat and it's what he did.
On their side, Sirius had transformed as Remus became a werewolf. She came next to them as they fought, seeing she couldn’t do anything she sank into the woods and howled. She knew it could be dangerous but the sight of Sirius being injured was too much.
She spent the rest of the night playing hide and seek with Remus. Howling, waiting for him to come to her, running away and doing it again.
When those long hours were finally finished, she joined Sirius, Remus' unconscious body on her shoulder, ensuring he was fine. “You were insane!” he hugged her but winced at the fabric of her shirt touch a wound of him “Are you okay?” she asked worriedly. “Yeah Yeah, let’s help your dad” he patted her shoulder with a little smile.
Remus woke up in a nursery bed, Sirius and Y/n fast asleep on the chairs, her head on his shoulder and his arm around her waist protectively. He smiled, happy to see his family finally reunite. But the two must have sensed he was awake since they slowly opened their eyes.
“Dad!” Y/n got up, her arms encircling Remus and her head buried in his neck. He hugged her back “Hello lil wolf” it was then Sirius who took him in his arms, their lips finally touch after twelve years and it felt like they were having their first kiss again.
Y/n was grinning “Hehe” she chuckled and the two men pulled away, brought back to reality by the sound of her laugh “Well well lovebirds I might have to leave you alone” she pretended to leave, winking and whistling innocently.
Sirius grabbed her arm “T-t-t” he said as he pulled her in a hug which Remus joined. The three of them were crying with smiles on their lips, they stayed there for as long as they could before Y/n broke into laughter. “What?” Remus chuckled, “Nothing, nervous laugh, I’m happy to see you” she answered.
The scene was happening under the stare of McGonagall. She was smiling as Y/n and Sirius were screaming and talking energetically unmatching the calm and tired attitude of Remus. “SHE LIKES DAVID BOWIE YOU RAISED HER SO WELL MOONS! I LOVE YOU!”
Earlier, when Remus was sleeping, the two others were sharing their love for music and fashion and discovered they had the same tastes. Sirius was smiling the entire time, it was crazy how much she looked like Remus. In the way she was talking, she had the same sarcasm and adored big old jumpers as much as he did.
“You remind me of him so much it’s crazy”

remus with a grumpy slytherin partner who also gives the best hugs and will fight anyone who tries to insult him??? i love the grumpy x sunshine troupe 🥹🥹
omg honey i love this so much
sunshine x grumpy is my life
also is kind of angsty i hope you don’t mind
and kind of short🥲
tw for minor cursing
“i’ll hex them so hard it goes in their asshole and out their mouth!” you bark, trying to fight against remus’ grip on your wand arm as remus’ assailants backed away. you were persistent, but remus was strong. “let me go—“
“love, it’s not worth it.”
“remus—“
“breathe.”
very reluctantly, you relax, and remus’ grip loosened. the slytherins left. you wanted to fight them, hex them, jinx them, anything. you didn’t care if you were slytherin, too. you wanted them gone, gone go they would never talk to your remus again. you wished they’d stop. stop laughing at remus, stop laughing at his blood status, everything. the rest of the marauders were plenty obnoxious. james was insufferable, sirius was a womanizer, and peter just did whatever james did. any comments towards them, you didn’t mind. but remus— remus was different. remus was gentle, remus was sweet, remus was kind and happy and different. you hated it when people didn’t see it.
remus didn’t get picked on often. after all, obnoxious as the marauders were, they were popular. an icon for anyone who didn’t like the rules, who were all for a little bit of mischief. leaders of the student body. trendsetters, if you will. you knew that remus was a gentle soul, and, annoying as they may be, you were grateful that his friends were bold, bold enough to make it known that they wouldn’t tolerate anyone winding up their moony. your moony.
just your luck that your housemates would find you with him alone.
“let’s just go.” remus began walking, his grip steady.
“i’ll make them pay next time i see them.” you grumble. “gits.”
remus lead you out of the dungeons and through one of the many corridors. he soon found a bench and sat down, releasing your wrist as he did so. you reluctantly sat down next to him.
“hate ‘em.” you grumble, slouching against the wall behind you. remus leaned forward, his elbows resting on his knees.
“dove, those slytherins were just saying stupid things. it’s nothing to worry about.” remus looked at you, and your expression softened, somewhat.
“it’s not okay.” you narrow your eyes. “they were being racist assholes.”
“all they did was go about chanting ‘half blood’.” remus pointed out. “it’s true.”
“it’s not what they said, it’s the tone!” you exclaim frustratedly. “i don’t care if they’re from my house, they said it like it was derogatory— are you okay?” you stop in your tracks as you see remus duck his head, his hair hiding his expression. remus angled his head away from you.
“remus?” you asked, more gently. remus looked back up at you, and you finally got a good look at him. remus looked exhausted. bleary eyes, dark circles, slightly pale skin. his hair looked shaggy, despite remus usually doing his best to stay well-trimmed. even his hands were a little shaky.
“sorry.” remus apologized, straightening his posture, wiping his hands on his trousers. “i’m just… just tired, is all. a couple of slytherins are the least of my worries right now.”
“oh, remus…” your brow furrows worriedly. “remus, i’m sorry.” you wrap your arms around remus’ neck, pulling him into a hug. remus reciprocated, his arms looping around your middle, his forehead resting on your shoulder.
“it’s alright.” remus mumbled.
“do you want to talk about it?” you offer awkwardly. you weren’t fantastic at comforting. you were a fighter, not a lover. you’d rather duel whoever had made remus like this, teacher and student alike. but you knew that remus would rather have someone be with him.
“no.” remus exhaled, his tense shoulders slowly relaxing as he leaned into you. “just, ah, wanna stay like this.”
“i can do that.” and so you do, and you hug for a long time. you don’t complain once— in fact, you weren’t sure you could ever complain about giving remus a hug.
“alright.” remus said after a good, long while. he broke away, honey-colored eyes studying yours. “you alright?”
“i should be asking you.” you frown.
“you’re the one who’s worked up, darling.” remus pointed out, and you sigh.
“i just hate those stupid people is all.” your frown deepens.
“you’re cute when you pout.” remus gives you a smile, that small, beautiful smile that first caught your eye when you were passing him in a corridor and you nearly stopped breathing.
“i am not.”
“you are too.”
“whatever.”
“i love you.”
“… i love you too.”

Making a new friend: Part 2:
A little story of how Regulus and Barty became friends. Muggle AU.
Check out part 1.
Regulus' P.O.V:
Regulus really hated talking in public. He actually hated talking at all. If there was something he wanted to communicate, he wished there was another way. There was this tendency that Regulus had. Everytime he said something, he over-thought about it for a while. What he should've said or not said. Or how he should’ve said it, and the volume of his voice, or the movements of his hands. It was actually exhausting.
Anyway Regulus had to do it right now for his class. His palms were sweating which caused an itchy sensation when he rubbed them on his pants. The worst part was that he was alone. Barty was nowhere to be seen.
Regulus had hoped he had made a friend. All the other kids bombarded him with questions about his family. Or thought he was too weird and serious. Many of them had said that Regulus “didn’t know how to have fun”, but Regulus didn’t understand why they said that.
Barty hadn’t done any of those things. Barty never asked about his family, about his cousins and how pretty they were, or about Sirius and how he caused mischief since he arrived at Hogwarts. Barty never called him weird.
Regulus knew they only met up twice to do the assignment. But Regulus ended up having fun explaining Barty about history, because he liked that subject. Old times were his thing. Regulus had been born at the wrong time. Regulus didn’t know what a friend was. But he thought Barty was one.
But Regulus hadn’t seen him all day. And he left him alone in this. When Regulus passed to the front, thinking he could do this on his own, he froze and stuttered. Then he got so angry when his classmates laughed that he ran away without listening to the teacher for the first time.
Then Regulus cried in the bathroom holding his own sweater because his koala teddy was in his room and it was too far away. He didn’t cry because of the humiliation. He cried because he would never be able to make a friend like Sirius did.
It wasn’t the same with Sirius anymore. Regulus noticed that Sirius didn’t like spending time with him. Regulus spent time with Sirius’ friends because he didn’t have anyone else. And Sirius had said “This is my brother, lads. The best pranksters’ helper ever! He would do well with The Marauders”. Regulus had smiled because he thought he meant it. But perhaps he didn’t.
Like that afternoon, when Regulus went to sit with them at lunch. The four of them stopped talking when Regulus sat down. Regulus found that odd, so he raised an eyebrow.
It was worse, because they began talking about something else. Regulus ignored them because he was sad and grumpy. He poured himself some juice. Always a sip of juice before eating.
“How was your day, Reggie?” Sirius asked with a grin on his face.
 Regulus shrugged.
“No luck making friends, ha?” James said. That made Regulus’ eyes get watery. “Let me give you some advice…” James continued. But Regulus didn’t care because he was already crying “You just approach someone and say ‘Hey mate, I am Regulus Black, want to be my mate?...”
 “James…” Remus murmured.
“You just ask them questions about their family and hobbies, maybe they like the same thing as you…”
 “James…” Remus said louder.
James stopped and Regulus was grateful.
“Oh shit Reggie. I am sorry…” James added “Here, have some chocolate” he gave him the bar putting his glasses up, then he stopped talking.
 “Was that mine?” Remus asked.
“Nicked it from your drawer this morning…” he grinned “Sorry, Remus…” Remus made a face “But now Regulus can have it because he is sad”
Regulus didn’t like chocolate with nuts in it.
“OH REGGIE!” Sirius exclaimed putting an arm around Regulus’ shoulder “You shouldn’t cry. You are not a little boy anymore. How embarrassing…”
That made Regulus cry even more. Sirius always treated him like a baby and Regulus had been trying to prove he had grown and matured. Like Sirius said he had.
“Sirius….” Remus tutted quietly “That’s not a nice thing to say”
“What? He is eleven!” Sirius said. If his friends knew he cried just that summer.
“I honestly don’t know what to do when somebody is crying” Peter added nervously.
“What happened, mate?” James asked, leaning closer. Too close. That made Regulus more anxious.
Maybe Remus noticed, because he pushed James back to his seat. “OUCH!” he even protested.
Regulus pushed Sirius away. His arm’s weight was suffocating him.
Regulus took a few sniffs to calm himself down.
“I have a friend,” Regulus said softly as he played with his sleeves. “I had a friend” he added mostly as a whisper.
“That’s great, Reggie!” Sirius exclaimed “Now you can go and hang out with them, because we have plans to do”
Regulus noticed he pointed at his three friends. So that didn’t include him.
“Sirius…” Remus protested, then he turned to Regulus “It is okay. You can stay” he smiled politely.
“Amm….” Regulus swallowed “I don’t know where he is”
“What is his name? Maybe we can help you…” James added.
 “Barty” he said “Bartemius Crouch”
“The Lord Chancellor?” Peter blinked hard.
“Maybe his son, Peter” Sirius tutted.
 “Right” Peter blushed.
Regulus nodded “Barty… He never came to give the History presentation with me. And he missed the next classes”
“Maybe he is sick” Remus suggested “I went to the nursery earlier today to get something…”
 “What?” Sirius asked curiously.
“Some painkillers” Remus answered “And I saw a couple of kids… OH!”
The last scream made everyone jump, even Regulus.
“Jesus, Remus. What happened?” James asked, grabbing his chest.
“I saw a first year there” Remus talked directly to Regulus, So Regulus had to look down to his sleeves again “Maybe he was your friend…” he made a pause “And for the look of it he isn’t well. He has a black eye…”
“WHAT?” Regulus asked, rising from his chair.
“Reg…” Sirius tried but Regulus didn’t care. He was already running outside. Towards the Infirmary.

*********************************************
Regulus had that feeling when Sirius got into trouble, when he got punished, and was locked in his room. And Regulus couldn’t do anything. Maybe it was worry. Regulus didn’t know. But this feeling was terrible. What could have possibly happened with Barty? Why did he have a black eye? Did Regulus care this much because Barty was his friend?
Regulus knocked on the Infirmary’s door, out of breath.
“Come in…” a voice said from inside. Madam Pomfrey.
Regulus opened the door and stepped in. He must’ve looked pale and bad because Madam Pomfrey stood up to revise him.
 “Are you okay, sweetheart?”
 “I’m looking for…” Regulus said, catching his breath “… Barty… Barty Crouch…”
“Oh…” Madam Pomfrey gave him a sweet smile “He is over there”
She pointed to one of the beds that had the curtains shut. Regulus approached carefully. On his way he heard some noises and a soft curse.
 “Barty?”
 No answer.
Regulus hesitated before opening the curtain, but he did it anyway. The first thing he saw was a big pillow covering someone’s face. Barty 's. Barty had his legs crossed out, sitting in the bed. Next to him at the side table was a glass of water with some pills.
“I just have a headache” Barty mumbled against the pillow “Go away!”
Regulus ignored him. He sat at the side of the bed, he extended his arms and he carefully removed the pillow from Barty’s face.
Regulus’ first thought was that he needed to react, scream, gasp, ask Barty something. But Regulus just observed, blinking hard. Barty’s eye was green, kind of purple. But it didn’t look that bad. It would heal quickly. Regulus knew about these things. Sirius got injured mostly everyday. And it was Samantha, The Blacks’ cook who cured him before their parents noticed.
“Does it hurt?” That was the first question.
Barty shrugged. Of course it hurt based on the pills.
 “What happened?”
 “I tripped”
Barty was avoiding Regulus’ gaze. Which made it easier for Regulus to look at the wound. Thinking about what might’ve happened.
 “I don’t believe you”
Barty frowned for a second but then he crossed his arms.
 “It is what happened!”
“That 's not true!” Regulus answered “Wounds like that are caused by a punch. If you would’ve fallen, you would’ve broken an arm or a leg… But not get a black eye…”
“Oh yeah?” Barty asked, defensively “And how do you know all of that?”
Regulus opened his mouth. He was gonna say he had seen the same wound on Sirius’ face once. After father hit him. But he didn’t dare.
“I just know” Regulus looked down embarrassed. Now Barty was looking at him curiously.
“I deserve to know what happened” Regulus insisted “I am your…” Friend? Regulus wasn’t sure. “You stood me up for the presentation”
Barty sighed and licked his lips, as if he was thinking something.
“I am sorry! I didn’t plan to stand you up” he said embarrassed “Those bastards…”
Regulus raised an eyebrow when Barty stopped. So Barty got into a fight. And he didn’t want to tell him.
 “Who?”
 Barty sighed.
“They were talking badly about you and your family, then I got so angry that I kicked one of them in the balls”
Regulus was used to people talking about him and his family. It was the prize of being a public figure. That’s why mother said they needed to be impeccable, so people wouldn’t talk shit about them.
Regulus didn’t want to know who talked about him.
“You kicked them in the balls?”
 “Yeah the balls”
Regulus smiled. Barty did it as well. Just for a second.
“And then they punched and hit me in revenge” Barty shrugged “It was nothing”
Regulus sniffed “Why did you do that for me?”
Regulus was used to Sirius taking care of him, protecting him and defending him. But he did that because he was Regulus’ older brother. But Barty didn’t even know him properly. So it was odd.
 “Well obviously because you’re my…”
 Were they truly friends?
“I just hate dicks that talk shit about people behind their backs…” Barty’s cheeks were turning red, and Regulus wanted to know why. He kept staring at him hoping to get an answer.
“Nobody had done that for me” Regulus said “Well my brother… But he is my brother” he shrugged as if it was obvious “And you are my…”
Barty moved nervously on his seat.
“Maybe we are friends” Regulus blushed when he said this.
“We… we barely know each other” Barty said looking down.
“I am Regulus…” he began nervously  “I am a Black… I am Cancer… I am autistic and my favorite color is green”
Barty’s eyes moved delicately towards Regulus. Regulus thought he was supposed to say those things to a friend.
“You are the son of The Lord Chancellor, right?”
“What about that?” Barty asked defensively.
Regulus shrugged “It is the only thing I know about you”
Barty twisted his mouth and then he sighed.
“My favorite color is red…” he began “I don’t like my father…”
 Regulus sighed relieved.
“I don’t like my father either”
 Barty smiled then he continued.
“I am a Sagittarius and my Birthday is today”
 “Today is your birthday?”
 Barty nodded embarrassed.
Regulus blinked “And you are spending it in The Infirmary because of me?”
“It is not your fault” Barty smiled softly.
 Regulus smiled as well.
 “Thank you… For defending me”
 Barty shrugged.
“So we have things in common…”
 Barty raised an eyebrow.
“We are Slytherins. We share a dorm. We don’t have friends and we don’t like our fathers…”
 “Your mother?”
 “She is alright”
 “Mine is bonkers”
That made Regulus giggle. Barty did it as well.
Barty opened his mouth, he wanted to say something but he hesitated. But then he said:
“Maybe Hogwarts is not bad… Maybe it is not that bad with you”
Barty got scarlet red as he said this. But Regulus was glad he said it.
“Maybe Hogwarts is not that bad if I have a friend like you”
Barty smiled “So now we are friends, ha?”
Regulus nodded “I think we are”
 Barty shrugged “Okay”
 “Okay”
Barty smiled relieved. Regulus did it as well. He had no idea what to do now. How to have a friend. But at least it was better this way. Regulus felt more relieved.
“Here…” Regulus took out something from his pocket. The chocolate James had given him “Happy Birthday!”
 Barty smiled, grabbing it.
 “Cheers, Reg”
Barty rubbed his hair and he opened the chocolate wrapper. Regulus hated when Sirius ruffled his hair. But this time it was alright, because a friend had done it. Finally Regulus had a friend.

Ship: James/Sirius Rating: T Summary: When James is having a bad day, Sirius tries his best to cheer him up!
_
James was having a bad day. There was no reason for it, but it was the sort of bad day where he didn’t need a reason for it to be awful, it just was. For one, he’d rather be in bed and not scratching Sirius’ name into the old wood of his desk. It’s not like he even needed to be in transfiguration. Poor Minnie hadn’t been able to teach the Marauders anything since their little project. An unfortunate side-effect of learning highly advanced, and not to mention illegal, transfiguration magic since they were twelve. Even now, three years later, Hogwarts lessons hadn’t quite caught up with the hours of studies they’d put in to become animagi, and James really, really wanted a nap. He hadn’t really wanted to get up in the first place.
There were more days like that than he was ready to admit, especially since his parents had been admitted to St Mungo’s.
Sirius’ shoulder bumped against his and when James peered up at him through foggy lenses, he couldn’t help but return his best friend’s smile. Although, compared to Sirius’ blinding smile, James’ felt rather weak, but he was trying his best. What was the point in being the most popular kid in school with good grades and enough money to coast through life if he couldn’t even manage a smile for Sirius?
His attempt clearly didn’t fool his friend though and Sirius leaned in, his breath making James’ unruly curls tickle his cheek. “Come on Prongs, you can do better than that.”
Merlin knew he couldn’t but it didn’t stop him from trying again. It felt to James rather like trying to conjure a patronus for the first time. Only none of his memories seemed happy enough to battle the dementor that was his own feelings.
“Some of us are trying to learn,” he hissed, shaking Sirius’ arm off him.
“Oh yeah? So is that why you're scratching- Is that my name?! ” Sirius’ voice jumped beyond a whisper and the class around them fell into an awkward silence.
For a moment, James considered transforming into Prongs and flying through the halls of Hogwarts just to get away. At least McGonagall would be impressed with his magic and wouldn’t be glaring firecrackers into his soul. On normal days he thrived on having the whole class’ attention, laughing as he and Sirius came up with the most elaborate lie that they could get away with.
That was something of a game for the Marauders. The trick was being confident and knowing just how gullible each teacher could be. It was a laugh and the four of them would cackle about it in the common room later that evening, but James felt very much like a deer in the headlights. There wasn’t a single lie that came to mind, and he really just wished he’d stayed in bed.
Luckily Sirius saved the day.
“Sorry Professor, temporary amnesia. I’m afraid it runs in the family, another side-effect of the infamous Black Madness. All that pureblood inbreeding, terrible, terrible stuff.”
“Five points from Gryffindor for interrupting the class, Mr Black.”
James shook his head and gave Sirius a fond smile. It was a stupid lie, but it was idiotic enough that the class just laughed and didn’t question the outburst any further.
“Why are you scratching my name into the desk, Jamie?” Sirius whispered, much quieter this time.
“Why not?”
“Are you sure you’re alright?” There was a touch on his leg, Sirius’ fingers brushing his knee under the table.
“Mr Black, Mr Potter! I suggest you be quiet before I give you both detention!”
“Sorry Professor!” they chimed in unison.
And for the next few minutes they settled back into a bored silence. Behind them, James could hear the soft sounds of Remus snoring but with a full moon due this week, most teachers cut him some slack. It helped that Remus was right there behind the other three Marauders at the top of the class in Transfiguration. Still, if Moony could sleep then surely James was allowed a little nap, in solidarity of course.
“You’re sad,” Sirius murmured as James let his head drop onto the desk, pulling off his glasses so he could get comfortable.
“I’m just tired, Pads.”
“Hmm…”
Another few minutes of silence, the lilting sounds of McGonagall’s accent lulling him into an easy slumber, counting hippogriffs as he went until-
“Psst! James!”
“What?”
“You need to hold this, it’s really important!” Sirius was grinning. Even without his glasses, James recognised the blurry shape of this smile, and there was just something in his voice that made it clear that Sirius was beaming like the star he was named after.
With a sigh, James pushed his glasses back up his nose and placed his hand, palm up on the desk. He fully anticipated it to be some kind of prank, that his hands would be stained red and gold, or merlin forbid, green and silver. Instead, Sirius’ hand fell into his and laced their fingers together with a cocky confidence that he usually reserved for pissing around with teachers, or flirting with girls.
James blinked as he stared at their hands, trying to process what the fuck had just happened.
“That’s your hand,” he stated, feeling stupid for pointing out the obvious.
“Yup!”
“You want me to hold your hand?”
Sirius nodded sagely, doing his best impression of Dumbledore. “It is very important.”
And for the first time that day, James felt a real smile cross his face. It wasn’t as brilliant and world shattering as Sirius’, and he definitely wouldn’t be casting any fully-formed patronuses any time soon, but it was a smile, an inkling of happiness in the whirlpool of sad indifference that had become his life.
“I’ll treasure it always,” he whispered back, letting his head drop onto Sirius’ shoulder.
“Potter, Black. Detention. My office after dinner,” McGonagall sighed wearily.
But James didn’t care. Sirius was still holding his hand tightly on top of the desk, grounding him, stopping his thoughts from flying away like a Nimbus in the clouds. His best friend, his Padfoot, his world.

35 ways to say i love you number 13: in a letter | lily evans potter and sirius black (platonic)
this is a part of the 35 ways to say "i love you" writing collection. check out the rest!
PREVIEW/SYNOPSIS:
"I feel like I’m going insane every time I have to write down my memories of another friend to you. It sounds horrid, but above all I dread a day where I’m writing to someone about you. Isn’t that terrible of me? I miss all of the people we’ve lost, and I cared about them, but I didn’t love them the way I love you."
content warnings: main character death, mentioned minor character death, implied/referenced betrayal, suicidal thoughts, loss of loved ones
Dear Padfoot,
James and I cannot for the life of us decide which of these photos to use for our Christmas card this year. Before you laugh, I know it’s early July, and by the time we use them Harry will be double his current size, but we knew this would happen, so we decided to start the whole process early.
How have you been? It feels like it’s been forever since we’ve seen you. I’m sure the Order is keeping you as busy as it’s keeping us, even with Harry. We wrote to Frank and Alice to make sure Dumbledore wasn’t just getting back at us for the bubblegum frogs in Year 5, but they’re swamped too. I told them I’d try to round up a Marauder to double babysit sometime-- I asked Peter since he loves kids so much, but he’s somehow even busier than the rest of us combined. I do miss him dearly, though.
We got the terrible news about Benjy Fenwick last week. I know it’s silly to say, but that night I just lay in bed and thought about how much alike you two looked. I remembered how kind you were to him, even though he was two years younger, and how you’d joke so much about being his brother that even the teachers called him Regulus sometimes. He was quiet, but when he laughed he wouldn’t stop for ages, remember?
I feel like I’m going insane every time I have to write down my memories of another friend to you. It sounds horrid, but above all I dread a day where I’m writing to someone about you. Isn’t that terrible of me? I miss all of the people we’ve lost, and I cared about them, but I didn’t love them the way I love you.
And I do love you, Sirius. If this war has taught me anything, it’s that we need to tell people we love them. More than even a “love you” when you leave, or only remembering the dead by how close they were to you. So I’ll write it again, just in case it keeps you safe: I love you. I love you. I love you.
Please write back with a decision about the card. You know there’s no one’s opinion we value more.
Forever yours,
Lily
7/7/81
Lily,
Oh, my Lily. My James.
It is with great sadness that I am writing this letter to you, doing exactly what we both feared the most-- remembering each other. But no post is allowed outside of this God-forsaken place, and I couldn’t send it to you even if there was.
I can’t believe you’re gone. Every day I wake up and when I see where I am, I wish I was dead, but then I scold myself for even thinking that. It is the worst feeling in the world to be alive and wishing to be dead, when all you really want is to be with your friends again.
A close second on the worst feelings list is that Remus thinks I did it. That is almost as unbearable as losing you. I’ve seen the papers-- the only thing they allow in or out, when the Minister comes by every so often. I can’t tell whether I’m glad or not that I haven’t seen an interview with Remus yet. I don’t think I could bear reading his words. I can’t imagine how he’s feeling. The Marauders disbanded, all in one night. He must be so alone.
I don’t want to talk about the articles I’ve seen about the rat. He doesn’t even deserve to have his name on a letter to you.
Someone died in their cell last night. I used to hear them talking with their neighbors (or maybe cellmates, who can tell?), but they’re quiet now. The Dementors should come and get them soon enough. Maybe the rows of graves will reach outside of my window before I die, so I can at least say grace for the few poor souls near me.
I have no idea where Harry is. I’m so sorry. I’m so, so, so sorry. I couldn’t protect him. I heard that Hagrid got him-- I hope that’s true.
You were always the best of us, Lils. I’m so sorry you had to be taken away from him so early. From James. From your life. And selfishly, most of all from me.
I wish my words could change things. Sometimes, on my bad nights, I lay here and think that if I just try hard enough, I can go back and fix it all. That I could protect you. I once even dreamed the cruelest dream I’ve ever had, where it had worked, and I got to hold your face and say ‘I love you’ again.
This letter will be neatly folded into an envelope shape and put somewhere or other. Where it goes isn’t important-- I’m not keeping it, it’s not FOR me, and I doubt the Dementors will care. Maybe I’ll ask the Minister to put it in a real envelope, unmarked, and give it to an owl. I wonder where these words will end up. Wherever they are, know that I am missing you the same as I am writing them.
I love you, Lily. Miss you, too.
Sirius

Not exactly a question, but an opinion: Snape, while beign an somewhat awful teacher, was not the abusive bastard that people seems to talk about. Why?:
1) He was in a school with some medieval standars, even in the Renaissance schools were awful, too awful that actually students died (hunger, cold, abusive powers that silenced their complains and stuff like that). For a medieval-like school he was actually pretty decent, maybe a jerk, but not as those teachers that hitted students or got them killed.
2) As someone living in the hispanish sphere of the world I know some bad teachers because sometimes here you have the bad luck to have THAT ONE in a schoolar year and more chances to get one in university… The thing is: Snape explained his classes and was a lot practical, his mania was more towards three students and while nasty he was just the kind of teacher that you say “stay silence, do everything as he says and don’t look him; everything will be okay”. Yes, this type of teacher is scary, but not worst to have an incompetent teacher that knows nothing or the arrogant piece of brick that knows much and mocks at you for not having the same level or the one that is the fusion of the previous ones. I actually would like to have Snape as a teacher rathen than others I had because at least I would learn something from him, others that I actually had were arrogant, knew nothing or mocked you for complain about their actions with authorities. Or worst: gets you suspended for talking back, and yes, this actually happens in other places of the world.
3) Snape cared for his students, maybe a prick, but he looked for their safety, more in the last book. And for the Trevor thing: it was Neville FREAKING FAULT; the first thing a teacher says when you are in a chemistral laboratory is: “don’t bring ANYTHING that would cause a mess here, includes food, animals and objects that have nothing to do with what you are going to do here”. And the kid let’s his frog go to the “chemistry” class for his clueless attitude… Sorry, but I have teachers that would had Neville got suspended for that class for bringing the frog to the laboratory, Snape let him be in class… That was actually soft… And while he threated him to give Trevor the potion I have to say this: I would wished to kill the frog if it was my class, only wished as consequence of the fury, but probably told Neville to not return to the class for the rest of the day (also, Snape was a potion master, he knew that the potion was a failure… And I actually think that Neville sometimes asks for bullying; sorry for this, but sometimes beign too much clueless is too much frustraiting for those around you and people will explode for that; harsh reality, but is reality and there is nothing we can do about it except try beign more attentive)
Tumblr media
Though I have to say, I disagree with the Neville “asking” for bullying part. Yes it was definitely frustrating and Snape’s dislike of him was justified, but that doesn’t mean that Nev’s “asking” for bullying or “deserves” it. That just reminds me a lot of what Marauder stans say about Snape (“oh come on he was asking for it!” “we all would’ve done the same” “well Snape gave as good as he got” etc etc). But other than that, I completely agree!

Out all the Harry Potter books, book three is my favorite. I love Harry and Sirius finding each other. I love Lupin as a teacher. The angst Harry deals with in the book. The marauders, the twist. The happy ending to the book, cause yeah Harry was going to the Dursleys again, but he knew he had family, someone who loved and cared for him. Like you can really feels James Potter's presence in the book and I love that. I love snape, but I also really love James Potter. I love how complicated a character he is, but I also know he loves Harry very much. Everyone always talks about Lily and mothers. But I also love Harry and how you can kinda see his dad watching over him. I have a soft spot for dads. James Potter is their in the cloak, the map, and as Harry's patronus. How messed up is must have been for the marauders to know Peter betrayed them like that. I just love it.
Third book is the superior one for sure! And the third film as well, I really loved how unique in world building it was. Wish they’d keep Alfonso and his approach, if they didn’t want to stick with Chris Columbus. Everything that came after was sooooo generic and bland((
Sirius Balck is my ultimate favorite character in the entire series, just as Marauders era is my favorite. So of course the part that deals with them the most is my favorite. Just the raw feeling of their friendship being broken by war, Sirius suspecting Remus, Remus and everyone somehow believing that Sirius could’ve done it even though it should’ve been impossible, Peter and his betrayal and the consequences of it for all of them… James and his undying belief that none of his friends could’ve ever betray him… damn I’m gonna cry just thinking of it.
And yeas, it’s almost the first time that we get to delve into Harry’s relationships and feelings towards James instead of Lily, their connection which is just as strong. That whole plot with stag Patronus that I always read as manifestation of James watching over Harry
If I recall it’s also the first time we get to see Harry’s sarcasm truly shining as he gets older. That’s one of my biggest beefs with films, they erased Harry’s sarcasm completely. His comebacks and one-liners are EPIC in the books. And I remember cackling in the end of book 3 when Harry told Dursleys about his criminal of a godfather who “likes to keep in touch with me… check if I’m happy…” 😏 GOLDEN

DATING A LEGILIMENS!MARAUDER
a/n: i re-watched fantastic beasts and idk i just got this idea. no warnings except swearing ig.
JAMES
would probably use it for fun
like for pranks and literally just to annoy the shit out of you
you can never surprise him
because James will always know you’re planning something
he’s also extremely annoying when you two argue, always countering your remarks before you actually say them
“no, I will not stop doing that, and no, I am not a dickhead! Don’t tell me to shut up!”
knows when you’re down
finds out you have a crush on him and is so fucking obnoxious about it
he knows exactly how to tease you, too
because he knows exactly what pisses you off
“but I’m not doing anything, Y/N!”
he’s a complete asshole, honestly
Tumblr media
REMUS
Remus doesn’t like to use it on you
because he thinks mind-reading is intrusive
he tries his best to subdue it
also, he doesn’t want you to think he’s any more of a freak than he already is, even though he knows you don’t think he’s a freak
he does use it to cheer you up when you’re down, though
or to get you birthday presents
he doesn’t like to use it often
but eventually he admits what it is after you started an argument about it
really, he hates himself for not telling you when he heard you thinking how annoying him keeping it from you was getting
he told the others shortly after even though he knew, again, that they would be enraged he didn’t tell them
Tumblr media
SIRIUS
uses it in bed, probably
also uses it when he thinks you’re lying
doesn’t hesitate for a second to boast about it to the whole school
he doesn’t care people think he’s even more of a freak
“I can read your minds, you lunatics!”
he is completely idiotic about it
he uses it for jokes, too, like James
but Sirius is meaner about it, and uses it to annoy Snape
“Stay out of my head, you filthy blood-traitor!”
Sirius doesn’t really use it on you, except when he wants to spoil you or start an argument lol
Tumblr media
REGULUS
he’ll use it on his enemies, but never on you
like Remus, he thinks it’s rude to read a person’s mind
he never does it, except when he knows you’re hurting
because you and Regulus are the same, you hide your emotions and it’s impossible to get anything out of either of you
so every time you say that you’re fine, Regulus knows you’re lying.
it upsets him because sometimes he’d just wish you’d tell him how upset you really were
arguments with Regulus almost never happen because he always knows your side of the story without having to assume anything or ask someone why you’re upset.
he’ll always know where to find you if you’ve run off crying somewhere
he’s always there even though he knows you’ll probably get mad at him
but he always knows how to calm you during your anxiety attacks and he always knows exactly how to make you feel better.
Tumblr media
LILY
super nosy
hides it for a while
says weird shit like
“are you ok? you seem down.”
“you should go rest in the hospital wing, sweetheart, I know you didn’t get any sleep last night
“there come the marauders. James is planning to bully Severus today at lunch, I ought to put a stop to it, he can be really cruel to him sometimes.”
she would always seem to know exactly what dresses and jewelry you like to wear
and what books you like to read and the music you like to listen to without having to ask you
and of course, you would get suspicious, and go to the library
you’d begin to research, and Lily would find out
she just loved your thoughts for some reason
she would tell you a few days before you planned to confront her
and it would be only the two of you who knew about it.
Tumblr media
MARY
uses it when she thinks she’s being funny
or to spy on teachers like filch
she often uses it on exams to answer questions she’s forgotten to revise
Mary doesn’t like to use it on you often, but she did use it when she first got to know you and was wondering if you had feelings for her, too
you were so surprised when she planned your dream date the first time you both went out
she always wears the outfits and the dresses you want her to wear, and she always manages to get you gifts that you actually want
even though she knows about the surprise parties you throw her, she makes sure to be extra surprised
Tumblr media
MARLENE
she’s even better at Quidditch than she was before
she knows every move that her opposer is going to make
which is annoying, because whenever your houses play Quidditch, you’re the Chaser she’s playing against
“keep out of my head, Mckinnon!”
“no can do, L/N!”
but she’s brilliant at gifts and dates
and at tutoring you in whatever subjects you don’t understand, somehow she just makes it all click!
Marlene’s a whiz, honestly.

Have you seen that popular post of tonks going to Remus class after the war and taking teddy with her? cood your write something with that? Please 😃
I sure have anon! I loved this. Some happiness amongst all the angsty asks I have lmao.
I took some mild creative liberties with the conversational abilities of portraits and the timeline is slightlyyyy wobbly. But enjoy
Read my other writing in my masterlist and feel free to drop me a request
Pairing: Remus lupin x Nymphadora Tonks
Warnings: none
When Tonks woke up Remus was already gone, her fingers reached around blindly on his side of the bed and found nothing but cold sheets and she groaned. In the year that they had been living at Hogwarts with Remus back teaching again, she had gotten herself into the habit of waking up with him. But Teddy had simply refused to sleep last night so she had been up for hours with him so that Remus could sleep. She opened her eyes and saw there was a steaming mug of tea on the bedside dresser with a little note propped against it and she reached over to grab it.
'My dear Dora,
Don't be mad at me for not waking you, you needed to rest. I checked on Teddy before I left. I have a class of 6th years 3rd period so feel free to come down if you want to. I have a free afternoon too, so tea in Hogsmede?
Yours always, Remus'
She smiled and sat up in bed stretching her arms up above her head with a yawn, grimacing slightly as her arm popped. It was one of the main reasons she still hadn’t gotten back fully into working herself, an injury from the war that still hadn’t recovered. The curse still that had hit her making it seem like it might not ever recover properly. Madam Pomfrey saw her once a week to help with it, but it wasn’t much better really.
She felt quite useless some days. She was desperate to get back into working again. She was never one for just lazing around doing nothing. She had been offered her job back at the ministry when ever she was ready to return to it, a hefty promotion waiting for her too. She still dis small things for the ministry, Kingsley has worked very closely with her and Remus on getting equal rights for Lycanthropes, made wolfsbane much more accessible. But for now she didn’t really mind that much, it meant having plenty of time with Remus and Teddy. Now in terms of work she she just helped out around the school where she could, because they didn't mind if she brought Teddy along with her. Some days she helped out in the hospital wing, her extensive knowledge on healing coming in handy. Other days helped with Minervas homework study groups, helped Remus plan his classes, she kept busy.
Teddy started to fuss and she got out of bed with a roll of her shoulder to try ease the morning pain. She peered into his cot to see him wide eyed and awake. He had Remus’ eyes. Big and brown and beautiful. He looked so much like Remus, she knew the older he got he’d simply be a double of his dad. Minerva was already joking that with them looking so identical now she would resign the day he was old enough to attend Hogwarts. With Remus and Tonks as his parents he was certain to have a mischievous streak in him for certain. It was practically fate.
" my silly boy huh " she said as she saw he’d managed to completely change ends he was sleeping on. She smiled, rolling her eyes with a smile and picked him up. His hair was a vibrant shade of red today, like the phone boxes back in London. His hair was the one of the only thing that seemed to change about him at the moment but he was already starting to control it. He had seemed to have learnt how to change his hair to match who he wanted to be held by when he was particularly grumbly. Which made things particularly difficult if they were staying at the Weasleys. But also quite cute when they would visit Harry and a little scar would appear on his head. She didn't even mind that just lately it would go brown more often than pink because seeing Remus and Teddy together was one of the greatest feelings in the world. Seeing Remus happy was one of the greatest feelings in the world. Because he so often would wake up in the night in a cold sweat as his nightmares replayed all the trauma of the war back to him. But work kept him distracted. And Teddy did. And she did. And though he would never admit it, the fact that he was sole income for the family now kept him motivated too.
She carried him over to her bed and sat down with to feed him, knowing that must be the reason he was fussing. It was quite peaceful sitting there in her room with him, it was raining outside and the rain hitting the window panes was almost melodic. Remus loved the rain and she’d grown to love it as well, sometimes convincing him to go out dancing around in it with her. If she listened closer she could hear the chatter of the children, she glanced at the clock and saw second period would be starting in 5 minutes so they were noisily moving between their classes. Even though there were no classrooms by the teachers wing in the castle, she could still hear them.
When Teddy had had his fill she propped him up on her pillows as she opened up his little wardrobe to get him something to wear. There was a quidditch friendly later on the evening, so she pulled out his little hufflepuff quidditch jumper ready. Molly had knitted it for him and it was an almost perfect replica. Even though Harry had tried to convince her he should be wearing Gryffindor. But even Remus agreed Teddy would be a hufflepuff. Through and through.
" wanna go see daddy teach later, hmm? You like being in his classroom don't you? Mummy does too because daddy looks very handsome in his teaching robes doesn't he? He does " she said as started to get him changed, unhooking his foot that he had shoved into his mouth “ are you going to be a good boy whilst he’s teaching? My good boy huh? “ Teddy gurgled an answer and went back to trying to get his foot into his mouth again.
With a half hour or so to go until his 6th year class she left their quarters and took Teddy down to his second favourite place in the castle. In one of the corridors off the main entrance hall a long row of portraits of those that had been lost in the war had been hung. Including one of Sirius. The first time they had seen it both Remus and Dora had cried only to have had the painted Sirius tell them both to grow a pair. But getting to introduce Teddy to his family was worth it, even if it did still make her emotional to see his face and hear his voice again.
When she reached Sirius frame he wasn't in it and she rolled her eyes knowing exactly where he would be. She walked down a couple more portraits to Fred Weasleys. And there was Sirius. Turns out even painting Sirius and Fred were mischievous and Sirius acted like the marauder he once was around Fred as they tried to play pranks on the others in the hall.
" do you ever actually stay in your frame?" Tonks said with a smile, bouncing Teddy lightly on her hip.
" Tonksie! And my little man! " Teddy started laughing as he heard Sirius voice and made grabby hands towards him. Tonks held him to the frame and Sirius pulled stupid faces at the little boy making him laugh even more. She wished Sirius was still around to truly play with Teddy. To make him laugh and turn him into the little prankster she knew he would grow up to be. But a portrait would all she was going to get nowadays. So she took what she could get " where's moons? Teaching? "
" yeah. We're going to see him now. Arent we Ted? Gonna see daddy? “ Teddy’s hair shifted brown at the mention of his dad and with a slight worry he would start crying and disturb classes, she said a quick goodbye to Sirius and made her way down to Remus’ classroom. She was a little early but Remus tended to let his class go early if he knew she was coming down.
And as exactly as she had suspected he had let his 3rd years go early when she arrived and they were piling out of the room. They all smiled as they saw her, all of Remus’ students knowing who she was.
" morning Mrs Lupin! "
" hi Ted! Hi Mrs Lupin! "
" good morning Mrs Lupin, oh hiyya Teddy! " some of the children greeted her as they left the classroom and she smiled at them all eagerly still just loving the sound of ' Mrs Lupin ' as she stepped into the classroom Remus had his back to her, tidying something on his desk and she snuck up behind him, wrapping her free arm around his waist.
" hi " she said softly and stood up on her tip toes to kiss his cheek. He turned in her embrace immediately, a smile gracing his faces the sight of his family. He leant down to kiss her only to be disturbed by Teddy yanking on his hair.
" oh I'm sorry, does someone feel left out? " Dora said with a laugh and handed him over to Remus who kissed his nose and both his chubby cheeks.
" kisses for both my favourite people " he held the baby boy up in the air and playfully tried to bite at his little feet making Teddy squeal in delight. Remus was well and truly in his element as a father. He had taken to the role so well and it warmed Doras heart watching them together. He may have had a rocky start. But he was more than making up for it now. He doted on his son, spoilt him completely rotten and showed him all the love and affection she’d known he’d had in him from the start.
Teddy soon became disinterested and far more interested in the model of some small creature on his desk. Remus handed it to him and sat him down on the floor as he gurgled to himself, inspecting the skull as if it was the most amazing thing he’d ever seen.
“ did you catch up on your sleep? “ Remus asked turning to Dora then as she watched Teddy with a smile “ you look tired darling “ he pulled her into, his hands on her waist. She gave a small shrug and looked up at him. His face was mildly concerned. He always worried too much. Always.
“ a bit “
“ you should’ve stayed in bed. Gotten some more rest “
" I’m fine Remus. Honestly. Besides. I like watching you teach " she said with a smile and hopped up to sit on his desk after a look towards Teddy. He was still babbling to himself as he investigated the small skull, still insanely amused by it.
" people aren't allowed to sit on my desk you know " Remus said and moved to stand in front of her, his hand reaching up to tuck her hair behind her ear.
“ if I recall we’ve done much more than sit on this desk Mr Lupin “ his cheeks flushed and she couldn’t help the giant grin on her face. After all the time since they’d first met she could still get him flustered. She loved it.
" you're a tease you know that? " he murmured and pressed a kiss to her cheek.
" I'm well aware. But you married me didn't you? You signed up for it " he smiled and she brushed her lips against his with an smile to match his. Though he’d barely kissed her for a second when there was the sound of children in the corridor, his next class arriving. Dora gave a small sigh and pressed a quick kiss to his lips before hopping off of the desk and picking up Teddy.
“ you’ll stay? “ Remus asked, straightening up his desk and pulling her back in gently before she could go “ it’s mostly just a study lesson, you won’t be a bother darling “ how could she say no to him when he was looking at her like that? He made her melt. She gave a nod and pressed a kiss to his cheek, before retreating to the back of the classroom so she and Teddy wouldn’t get in the way “ in you come class! “ the children piled in, some stopping briefly to talk to Tonks and Teddy before finding their seats.
She’d attended so many of his classes by now and she’d never seen any children really misbehave. They all seemed to love him, all listening with pure interest in everything he had to say. And maybe it was his parental instinct, but he was practically a father to some of them. They went to him for advice, just to talk, some of the more quiet students would even seek him out at lunch break so they didn’t have to eat alone. There were the odd few that were still coming to terms with the new easing of laws regarding werewolves, having grown up around people always saying they were bad. But everyone quickly grew to love him.
Just like she’d said they would.
He’d been a little hesitant to take on his old job after the war and had declined twice before finally accepting. She’d had the joy of watching him flourish after returning to work, he was truly in his element. He was happier. More confident than ever. And she loved him even more for it.
Teddy remained quite as Remus started teaching, always looking at his father almost in awe. He only became a little restless when Remus set the students off to do their own working, a quiet chatter filling the classroom.
“ Mrs Lupin? “ Tonks turned her head as she heard her name and smiled as Ravenclaw girl looked at her expectantly “ could you give me a hand with this one? “ she happily walked over to the girls desk, crouching down to help her with her questions on the behaviours of Pukwudgies. Teddy continued to wiggle around as she tried to help the student so placed him down to sit by her feet.
She had only taken her eyes off of him for a few moments , but Teddy took his chance and wiggled out of his mothers grasp and crawled away to sit at Remus foot who was stood a few desks away helping a student himself.
" oh- Teddy " Dora hissed and went to snatch her child back to their place in the back of the classroom. But Remus simply bent down and picked Teddy, not even stopping his explanation to his student , and placed him on his hip which made Teddy clap his chubby little hands excitedly. Tonks finished helping the girl before hurrying over to Remus, ready to relieve him of their son. But Remus declined with a smile.
“ it’s okay. Have a break. He’s fine sweetheart “
He held him for the rest of the lesson , even when he brought the classes attention back to the front for the final part of his lecture. He held Teddy in his arm and acted as if it was a perfectly normal thing to teach about the life expectancies of dark creatures with a small child on your hip. None of the students seemed fazed by it either and Dora sat at the back of classroom with a smile so wide it hurt her cheeks. Nothing would ever come close to the sight of Remus happy. So at ease with being a father now, so at ease back in front of classroom. Helping. Teaching. Shaping small futures as he has always dreamt of doing.
And of course the cherry on top. His family. Something he had never thought he could have. He was finally living the life she’d wanted him to have since that first meeting back when she joined the Order. The war was over. He had lived most of his life in war. And now he was finally free. Free with her. And their son.

You’re Being Mean (J.P.)
Tumblr media
Requested: No
Summary: (Y/n) has always been second to her cousin Lily and James watches (Y/n) get ready to go to the yule ball with someone else
Pairing: James Potter x Evans!Reader
Word Count: 1.5k
Warnings: Angst
Inspired by this scene from little women
a/n: i don’t know if the marauder had a yule ball but let’s pretend!!
At Hogwarts, the last name Evans meant something. It meant good grades and a strongwilled personality. It meant a shining prefect badge and a mastery of charms. It meant beauty and a rugged air of sophistication. Lily Evans walked through the castle each day with her head held high and her beautiful flowing locks tied back in a messy plait. She was surrounded by friends who genuinely loved her and was followed by an endless degree of suitors. And despite sharing her last name, none of this applied to you, but the weight of everything that you weren’t still crashed upon your shoulders.
Lily Evans was your older cousin, her father being your father’s brother. It was incredibly rare that two people from the same muggle bloodline would be witches, but it wasn’t impossible. You arrived at Hogwarts the year after Lily, clinging to her hand as you approached the Gryffindor common room. While you, a gangly eleven year old, were shaking in your boots, Lily suavely led you into the common room and introduced you to her friends.
You tried your best to make a smooth transition into school, but it proved difficult when professors would learn your last name. Lily had raised their expectations impossibly high, so as you struggled to cast spells and mix potions, your professors felt incredibly let down by you. You just couldn’t live up to her.
As the years wore on your school performance remained average while she excelled, earning you snide remarks from your teachers and classmates. You were never viewed as your own person, only as an extension of Lily. You were always second to her in everything.
And while all of this bothered you, there was only one person whose opinion truly stung. You could brush off Slughorn’s comments about your performance in his class and you could ignore your housemate’s comparisons, but you couldn’t stomach the way that James Potter looked at your cousin.
He looked at Lily as if she had molded the moon and placed it in the sky and as if she had lit the fire that ignited the sun. He followed her around like a lost puppy while you sat on the sidelines and watched as she rejected him over and over again. You ached for him to look at you like but he never did. He only ever looked at you as a friend.
You and James had been friends for years. He had originally befriended you in an attempt to get closer to Lily but he quickly found himself taking a liking to your personality. The friendship stuck and while he continued to fall deeper in love with your cousin, you fell deeper in love with him.
Everything about him enamored you; his deep brown eyes and his wicked but kind smile. The way he would throw an arm over your shoulder as you walked to the Great Hall and how he looked in his quidditch robes. Everything about him made it easy to fall in love. But unlike your cousin, you seemed to be unlovable.
You were clumsy and awkward, never quite feeling comfortable in your own skin. You never knew the proper thing to say and never quite learned the correct way to act in any given social situation. You were funny, but it was often unintentional with people laughing at you and not with you. James could never love someone like that. You thought that no one could. That was why you were so surprised when Frank Longbottom asked you to the Yule Ball.
Frank was a year above you and tall and gangly. He wasn’t the type of boy that you’d usually notice, not that you noticed any boys beside James, but he was nice. He had asked you nervously in the common room, his hands wringing together. It was endearing and no one else had asked you, so you accepted. You had wanted James to ask you of course, but he didn’t. You assumed that had asked Lily and that she had rejected him since the ball was looming so near and the boy remained dateless.
You stood in front of your mirror, applying a light amount of soft pink blush to your cheeks. Your hair was pinned back in waves and your makeup was subtle and glowy. You felt more beautiful than you had ever before. James laid on your bed, his head hanging off of the side. He was already dressed in his dress robes and his hair was slightly neater than usual. He had gotten bored waiting for the ball to start so he had barged into your room to annoy you while you got ready. The room was empty, your roommates opting to get ready with other friends in other rooms.
James was humming to himself as he watched you get ready. Something odd stirred in his chest as he watched you examine yourself in the mirror. He had felt this stirring a few times over the past months but he had chosen to ignore it.
“I’m going to go change into my dress, I’ll be right back,” you announced, grabbing the hanger that your dress was on and marching towards the bathroom.
“Can I watch?” James called from the bed with a smirk on his face. You grabbed one of your silver heels from the floor and chucked it at him.
“Only in your dreams, Potter,” you retorted, a light blush dancing across your cheeks.
You stole into the bathroom and took off your pajamas; a pair of your father’s plaid pants and one of James’s jumpers. You slipped on the dress. It was a beautiful sky blue with iridescent sparkles lining the tulle fabric. It had a shapely and well-constructed bodice with a sweetheart neckline. There were two thin straps that ended in delicate bows at your shoulders and it flared out at your waist. The skirt ended just above your ankles. It was breathtaking. You reached to the back, attempting to zip it up yourself. You realized quickly that you needed help.
You held up the bodice as you walked back into your room.
“James I need help,” you whined. James laughed as he pushed himself off of the bed and made his way towards you. His breath caught in his throat when he caught sight of your bare back. You swept your hair out of the way and suppressed a shiver when his finger ghosted your skin as he grasped the zipper. You could feel his breath on your neck and you were afraid he could hear how loud your heart was beating. His finger paused when the zipper reached the top. He leaned closer towards you, his face practically in your hair.
“Don’t go with him,” he breathed. You tensed.
“What?” you whispered. Half of you wished for him to say the words that you had always wanted to hear and half of you dreaded whatever would come out of his mouth next.
“You heard me, don’t go with him,” he said softly. You spun around to face him, your noses almost touching. You scanned his face hoping to find some sort of explanation in his eyes. He was just looking at you with an odd expression, his lips parted and his eyes blown behind his glasses. Your eyebrows furrowed.
“Why?” You held your breath as you awaited his answer. He shook his head slightly.
“You know why,” he said, his eyes darting down to your lips. You took a step back, your legs bumping into the bed behind you.
“No,” you said, your head beginning to shake back and forth. “No, no.” James Reached his hand towards your cheek.
“Yes,” he murmured. You swatted his hand away.
“No James, you’re being mean,” you said. You felt tears stinging behind your eyes and you felt as if bile was rising in your throat.
“What, no-”
“Stop it!” you said forcefully, forcing James to freeze.
“I have been second to Lily my entire life, in everything. In school, in friendships, in my family. Everything,” you said, a frown deepening on your face. “I will not be who you settle for just because you cannot have her,” you spoke. James reached for you again, his brow furrowing.
“(Y/n)...” he whispered. You pulled away.
“No. I won’t do it, I can’t,” you said, pushing past him. You scrambled to grab your shoes, praying that your tears would stay at bay.
“(Y/n) just wait a second,” James cried.
“No James! I can’t do this. Not when I’ve spent my entire life loving you!” you exclaimed. The statement hung in the air as you both stood staring at each other, your chests heaving. James rubbed a hand down his face but didn’t make a move to say anything. You looked away, blinking away tears, and took a deep breath. You sighed before turning and storming out of the room. James didn’t follow you.

And the next day he comes up to you and tell you that ther is something wrong with your hand untill he picks it up and puts his own hand in yours and says that's better. Please? Thanks so much. I am a huge fan of your work.” - @Tamarakyra [Wattpad]

Tumblr media
Sirius Black had never been one to question things. He was very stubborn much to his professors’ dismay. Doing what he wanted regardless of consequences has become his personal motto. Swaying him seemed impossible, he always knew what he wanted, how he wanted it and when he wanted it.
However, on a rainy dull Saturday afternoon as he was watching you up in the air, flying across the quidditch pitch on your broomstick, your hair flat against your face, your uniform drenched in water, your eyes covered with a pair of goggles, something has changed within him. For a mere moment he felt as if time had stopped as you screamed at James for not being able to catch the snitch and win against Ravenclaw. His eyes focused only on you, even forgetting about the ongoing match.
The way you sat on your broomstick leaning forward to speed up, the way you tucked the quaffle under your arm and secured it, the sheer amount of energy you projected and the bold tone you used against his best friend all hit him right in the chest, forcing him to fall back onto the bench of the bleachers. He didn’t know where his sudden feelings came from, but the unexpected warmness filling him up from the inside made him smile at the simple sight of you. From then on, he knew the friendship you had has become more on his side.
You sat right beside Sirius at Defence Against the Dark Arts, doodling on the parchment in front of you as he kept nudging you, trying to get your attention.
“What now?” you asked for the 10th time in the past 10 minutes. “Perhaps you could focus more on the lesson. You need it more than I do,” you hissed angrily, feeling fed up with his childish behaviour.
“I’m bored,” he whined in a silent whisper.
“I can see that,” you scoffed as you drew another random pattern on your paper. Closing out the lesson, you focused completely on your drawing, finding it more interesting than whatever your professor was talking about. That was until Sirius started nudging you again.
“What now?” you hissed in anger, slightly raising your voice, but you quickly silenced yourself as you looked around, every pair of eyes focusing on you, including your professor’s. “I’m so sorry,” you apologised, hunching your back, trying to hide away from embarrassment.
“Since you have already graced us with your attention, why don’t you answer the question?” he asked in a pompous tone, clearly trying to make you feel even more awkward. However, as the new teacher, he couldn’t have known about your exceptional knowledge and talent on the subject. It took you a good second to recall the memory from the darkest and deepest part of your mind, before you were ready to answer.
“The Tongue-tying curse prevents people from being able to form a coherent sentence, therefore stopping them from being able to incantate further spells. Although Langlock its sibling curse also prevents people from being able to speak, in this spell’s case the tongue sticks to the roof of the mouth, whilst when using Silencio it causes the victim to be temporarily muted,” you explained proudly. The professor didn’t compliment you, nor did he scold you. He offered you a deadpan expression and cleared his throat.
Sirius snickered beside you with a proud grin across his face, knowing the professor didn’t expect your reply. Years ago, he would have told you off for being a know it all, but now he found it comical. He didn’t know if it was because his feelings had changed or because it was you who did it, but in the end it didn’t matter. You could have done anything and he would have supported you like a loyal puppy. At times he couldn’t even believe how easily affected he was by you.
“Khm- smartass,” you heard a cough from the side as Evan Rosier was trying to cover his words in an obvious manner. You were not one to let others walk over you nor did you plan to be one in that moment. You felt anger bubbling up inside you, the boy’s mere presence irritating you.
“Let me show the spell in practice, professor,” you grinned proudly as he turned around with a shocked expression across his face, ready to stop you in mid-spell. However, he was slower than he wished to be and before he could have said anything, the word left your lips. “Silencio,” you lifted your hand and pointed your wand at the boy, watching as he grabbed his throat, desperately trying to speak, gaping like a fish, but no words leaving his mouth.
Sirius watched as the scenario unfolded in front of him. His initial surprise quickly disappeared as he saw a smirk appear across your face, pure pride taking over your stance. He always admired your can-do attitude and bold personality, possibly one of the reasons you have been such good friends. He wasn’t lacking any of those personality traits, but when he saw you standing up for yourself, being strong and independent, it just drove him crazy. It made him feel like there was an invisible string between the two of you, pulling him closer and closer to you.
Since he realised his own feelings for you, he was watching every little move of yours, trying to protect you from everything and anything that could possibly hurt you. But before he could ever intervene and show you how much he cared for you, you took care of it, proving once again how independent you were. He didn’t mind though, he loved the strength you harboured, he just wished to be able to show you that you could rely on him.
You watched as the professor rushed up to Rosier, pulling his wand out of the inner pocket of his robe and quickly using the counter spell on him, before rushing up to your table, his index finger pointing right between your eyes. “Detention! How dare you? Detention after classes!” he shouted at you, veins popping on the side of his neck and temple, his face turning red in anger. If he had time, he would have probably embarrassed you in front of the whole class, but as the bell rang, indicating the end of your class, he had no choice, but to let you go.
Quickly collecting your belongings, you hurried out of the classroom with Sirius right behind you, calling your name relentlessly as you were about to cross the Courtyard.
“What do you want?” you asked angrily as you halted. You didn’t want to sound rude, being around Sirius was the highlight of your day, but at that moment he was a pain in your backside.
“Woah, calm down,” he gestured with his hands, but if anything, it made you angrier.
“Calm down? Calm down? It was all your fault to begin with. If you didn’t nag me about being bored, I would have kept drawing and kept my mouth shut. But you just couldn’t find anything better to do so you decided to get on my nerves and now of course it’s me who has to go to detention,” you rambled, annoyed, trying to take deep breaths to calm yourself.
“Okay, I accept that I was nagging you, but I didn’t curse my classmate,” he scoffed with a hidden smile in the corner of his lips.
“It’s not funny! If you didn’t nag me, the professor wouldn’t have questioned me, which means Rosier would have never insulted me, hence the reason you are at fault,” you groaned as you turned around and started walking away.
“Hey, stop already,” he whined, but you didn’t halt your steps, if anything, you sped up. “I’m sorry,” he tried to break the ice, but it seemed to just fire you up even more. You turned on your heel, stopping right in front of the boy.
“Sorry? That’s it? You just have to say sorry and I’m supposed to forget about it?” you scoffed in disbelief. “You must be joking,” you looked up at him in clear astonishment, but after seemingly waiting for an eternity Sirius still didn’t reply.
He wanted to, he was about to defend himself, but as he watched you getting worked up about such a minor issue, at least minor for him, he could only think about how adorable you looked when you were upset. Not that he ever wanted to see you angry or sad, but for some reason it just caught his eyes that instead of being threatening, you seemed as if you were slightly pouting.
You groaned, annoyed as the silence grew between the two of you and a small smile started appearing on Sirius’ face. “I hate you!” you shouted at him as you left him behind, stomping across the Courtyard, heavy and loud steps following you.
“Do you?” he shouted after you, silently chuckling, finding your behaviour quite funny and somewhat cute.
“I do!” you replied sulking, your steps becoming quicker.
Sirius couldn’t just let you walk away, he jogged after you and grabbed your wrist, halting your steps, pulling you back against his chest. For a second even the air stuck in your lungs as you realised how close you were to him, his breath fanning your face, his pink lips almost touching yours. You were completely engulfed by his aura, his warm hold on your wrist sending shivers through your body as his other arm sneaked around your waist.
You could swear he felt your dangerously racing heart against his chest, your lips quivering in anticipation, wanting nothing but to feel his mouth on yours. As if he could read your mind, he leaned closer and closed the gap between the two of you, kissing you slowly, sensually. You expected him to be slightly aggressive, maybe dominating, but his kiss was more passionate, gentle instead, causing you a delightful surprise.
“Why?” you breathed against his lips as you parted, your eyes still closed, completely lost in the moment.
“Because I wanted to do it for a long time,” he whispered.
“Why would you?” you chuckled awkwardly. He was always your closest friend and now that you kissed, knowing the friendship you have had was gone, you didn’t know what to do.
“Do I really need to say it?” he scratched the back of his neck, pulling a face, feeling embarrassed about the words you waited for so impatiently.
“If you don’t say it out loud, how do you expect me to understand?” you questioned, and Sirius knew how right you were.
“I- khm,” he cleared his throat awkwardly. “I- I have liked you for a while,” his words were silent and unsure, making you question it.
“Are you sure?” you asked, making him feel even more awkward.
“Of course, I’m,” he groaned, slightly sulking. “It’s just not easy to say.”
“Is it easier if I say I like you too?” you giggled happily, watching as his embarrassed expression slowly changed into a proud grin.
“I knew it, I felt it,” he chuckled happily, earning a deadpan look from you as you slapped his chest gently, before your lips curved into a small smile.
“Right, you did,” you scoffed as you peeled his hands off you and started walking to your next class with a hidden smile in the corner of your lips.
“Wait, wait,” he called after you as he tried to catch up to you.
“What now?” you asked, rolling your eyes as Sirius joined beside you.
“There’s something wrong with your hand,” he stated with a deep frown. You looked down at your hand, lifting it up, looking at it curiously, turning it up and down, but nothing seemed out of the ordinary.
“What do you mean? It seems alright to me,” you replied in confusion, but you couldn’t take a closer look at it as Sirius took it in his hand, interlocking your fingers.
“Now, it’s better,” he grinned playfully, making you giggle.
“Sirius Orion Black, you have a horrible sense of humour,” you scoffed, but you couldn’t fool him. He knew his little joke made you happy and even if it didn’t, the warm feeling of each other's touch, your small hands engulfed by his big palm made up for his silly joke.

Rivals (Severus Snape x Reader)
Rivals young!Severus Snape x Reader Warning: bullying
New fandom. I'm a little bit worried about this fandom because I'm definitely not a hardcore Potterhead, but I have so many ideas for Severus, and I want to share them with you guys.
Y/N and young!Severus are more than just rivals.
Tumblr media
When you first stepped into the castle with a bunch of other kids around you, waiting for the Sorting ceremony, you knew your life would change forever, and you have to give your best. You were full of eagerness to learn and want to prove yourself in front of your teachers and fellow students. The Hat sorted you into Ravenclaw, you got to know the castle and your teachers, and you made friends as the months and years went by. You became the captain of your Quidditch team, and despite the endless training and matches, you are still one of the best-graded students.
You only have one headache.
Severus Snape.
The boy is tall and lanky, and you never see his face without his black hair he uses as a curtain. He has a few friends, but your circle of friends never mixes with his. He is quiet and stoic. The only times you hear him speaking loud and clear when he is arguing with you about an answer or a test.
Even before you knew, you were rivals. The fact that you are the captain of your team helps you a lot with your results, but while you are horrible at potions, Severus is talented and hard-working. At first, the competition existed only in your head, but as the years went by, you noticed the boy’s annoyed expression whenever you had better grades than him.
After six years of competition, you came to the point when you had to admit to yourself you will never beat each other. Since then, you look at it as a game. Severus keeps you on your toes, and sometimes you just tease him for fun. After years of staring at him arguing with you about something, you noticed he is rather cute. He has thin but kissable lips, and his pale skin becomes reddish from anger whenever you tell him you are the smarter one. You enjoy your encounters even if you don't know about Severus’s opinion.
You sit in the garden, hoping for some fresh air before your next class when you start to hear voices and laughs. At first, you want to ignore it and read over your notes, but the shouts get louder, and the word Snivellus pushes everything else out of your mind. You stand up from your bench to follow the noises till you see the sources.
Severus tries to gather his books and notes from the ground while the Marauders tower over him, laughing and guffawing. You see Severus’s torn potion book in Potter’s hands, and you see his mouth moves, but you can’t hear him because of the others. Pettigrew hits Sirius's shoulder when he says something funny, and Severus makes sure they don’t see his expression behind his black hair.
You are not the only one who comes to see the ruckus. People start to stand in a circle around them until you can’t see anything but their backs. You hear their cheers as Severus’s humiliation continues.
Your first thought is maybe you shouldn’t intervene, it’s not your business, and you still can call a teacher for help, but as these thoughts run over your head, you get angry at yourself. Could you really let the poor boy here? If you do it, you aren’t different from the people who have fun while the Gryffindors hurt him.
He is smart and, despite your interactions mostly about arguing, he always helps you on potions even when you tell him you don’t need them.
You grab your bag to place it over your shoulder and start to run into the crowd. You struggle through the people until you arrive in the circle. Severus still struggles with his books while the other four make sure to entertain their audience.
“Y/N,” Potter calls you as he notices you stepping out of the crowd. Severus’s head snaps up in a panic, hearing your name. “Just in time!”
“No!” Severus start to argue, but his words are meaningless for the boy who walks next to you.
“Look at this!” He shoves the potion book into your hand. “You have a secret admirer,” he laughs.
Severus’s handwriting is messy, but you can still read your name in a heart-shaped drawing. You have to force yourself not to smile at it, looking over and over again your name.
“Who thought Snivellus has feelings?” Sirius asks loud enough for others to hear, and he gets his reward in laughs and cheers.
“Shut up!” You shout at him, closing the book in your hands. Your skin is hot from embarrassment and excitement. “You shouldn’t be jealous, Black,” you continue, stepping next to Severus to help him gather his things. “You don’t have a brain and feelings but don’t give up, maybe a few years, and you will look like a man.”
“You shouldn’t stand up for a worm. It’s not good for your reputation,” Pettigrew says.
“You shouldn’t open your disgusting mouth,” you snarl. “It’s not good for your nonexistent reputation. And if you ever hurt him again, I make sure my potion will eat you alive.”
You and Severus the only ones who know you would do it because of an accident and not knowledge. You grab the boy’s arm to help him steady himself as you pull him through the crowd.
“Are you okay?” You ask him when you get far from the idiots. “Do you need to go to the infirmary?”
“No,” he replies quietly. He is too embarrassed to look at you, but the warmth of your hand on his arm is too good to get out of your touch.
“Come, I know a place,” you tell him, pulling him with you.
The corridors are almost empty. The classes started a few minutes ago, but you don’t care. You have a more important matter to do than Herbology. You're heading to the library because you know, in the middle of the day it'll be empty.
You sit down not far from Severus, and you wait for a few minutes patiently while he repairs his bag and puts back everything in it. His hair still hides his face from you, and your fingers itch to adjust it behind his ears.
“Your book,” you tell him, reaching out his potion book for him. He grabs it out of your hand with hurried movements. You can see his dark eyes and red skin for a moment as you still wait for him patiently. After he packs everything, he stands still, hovering over the table, fidgeting.
“You want to talk about it?” You ask him softly. “I mean… about my name in your book.”
You are sure you will combust if you don’t bring up the topic you want to talk about so much.
“For what?” He asks you angrily. “It’s not your business,” he continues defending himself.
“Well... it’s my name,” you reason. “Come on, Severus! Sit down!” You order him softly, grabbing his arm to sit down next to you. You know you have to be careful. He is embarrassed and humiliated, and he doesn’t know about your feelings for him.
“I’m sorry, okay?” He says. His voice is desperate, and it breaks your heart.
“No, don’t be,” you grab his hand and pull it to your lap. “I like you too,” you confess.
“Don’t play with me,” he tries to move out of your hold, but you don’t let him. His hand feels good in yours. You can almost imagine holding it as you walk to your next class beside the boy.
“I don’t, Severus, I promise,” you reply. You push his hair from his face with your other hand to see his expression. You can see the fear and slight hope on his opened mouth and black eyes.
“But… I thought you hate me,” he whispers.
“I thought you hate me,” you reply with a small smile. “I don’t hate you,” you continue. “You are the only one who smart enough to compete with me among these dunderheads.”
“So… you are not angry? Probably everybody knows about my book by now. They will pick on you too.”
“No, I’m not,” you squeeze his hand with a big inhale. “I like you too,” you repeat to ensure him. “I do for a while now.”
“So… so… it means…” he tries to have an answer for his unsaid questions, and you can’t help but smirk.
He is too cute.
“It means I would like to be your girlfriend."
His eyes shine as he looks up at you finally. His mouth closes and opens repeatedly but can’t utter a word out. His cheeks are still tinted with pink, and you can feel the sweat on his palm. The only thing he can do is nod. His lips are dry, and his throat tightened, looking at your soft expression.
“Come here,” you laugh at his shut down, pulling him closer to you by his tie.
At first, you kiss the corner of his mouth, and when you see he doesn’t against your closeness, you kiss him fully on his lips. He needs a few moments before he finds out what he should do, but you are perfectly fine to leading him. His skin is soft as you caress his cheek, and his lips are warm and taste like tea.
You pull back and look up at him to see his dreamy expression.
His breath is heavy, and in the back of his mind, he still thinks it’s just a prank, but the only thing you do is smile and continue to caress his cheek. He wishes you never stop it.

The real Sirius Black
Sirius Black was a very special boy. For instance, everyone at Hogwarts knew who he was. For many, he was the most handsome lad. Many girls (even boys) wanted to date him, others wanted to be like him. Sirius Black was an icon around Hogwarts. The first Black to be sorted into Gryffindor. Prankster legend, always making the funniest jokes and comments in class. He was most teacher's favourite. He had the reputation of the bad boy, a player who broke girl's hearts daily. Sirius Black, the legend.
Nobody knew the real Sirius Black.
Sirius was the most insecure of the Marauders even more than Remus and nobody noticed. He had had a horrible experience with his family. Sirius never showed his true feelings or at least he tried. He wanted to keep his reputation. He kept a smile, he would make a joke or get drunk so he could act goofy around everyone.
Every summer he would experience the worst. His parents made him feel so small. So vulnerable. He hated that feeling.
The real Sirius was sensible, romantic, too depending on love and attention. He cared too much and too deeply. He wasn't a play boy. Sirius had never been in love. Sirius was scared of his sexuality. He was scared of his real temper. But he would do anything for his friends. Specially Remus Lupin.
It was the summer of 1975. Sirius was invited to the Potter's beach House along with Remus and Peter. Remus had a hard time convincing his father to let him go. Since he was a werewolf and he would have to transform there. The boys and Mr. and Mrs. Potter eventually convinced him.
Remus Lupin had to transform in the basement. And the next day all the boys wanted to see him. "I will get in first" Fleamont had said "Do you hear me? I would let you know when to get in"
The boys nodded impatiently. But the minute Fleamont opened the door, Sirius ran inside. He was too impatient. "SIRIUS..." Fleamont yelled. But he didn't pay attention.
Sirius got downstairs and he saw Remus lying on the floor. His body was all brused, dirty and ...naked. Sirius blushed for some reason. He kneeled beside his friend.
"Remus.." he whispered Remus hummed in response, opening his eyes slightly. "Sirius?" Sirius smiled "Yeah it's me. I'm here"
Fleamont came downstairs as well with a blanket. "I told you to wait Sirius" he said "Don't ever do that again" he sounded kind of angry but mostly worried. "Sorry Mr. Potter. I was so worried"
Fleamont smiled covering Remus' nudity.
"Remus? Does something hurt?"
Remus murmured something like 'knee" with still a sleepy voice. Fleamont nodded. "Okay, this is gonna hurt a bit okay?" he took out his wand. Sirius instantly grabbed Remus hand. This was the first time he had watched Remus like that. They only had seen him already fixed and rested at The Hospital Wing. Fleamont flicked his wand muttering something and Remus screamed in pain. Sirius squeezed his hand. "It's okay Remmy"
Remus was fixed in no time. Sirius didn't want to leave him. He stayed with him. Watching Remus sleep. He looked so peaceful. Sirius wanted to touch Remus' hair. But he didn't dare. His heart was beaiting fast. "Sirius?" Euphemia said. She was looking at him from the door frame "Why don't you let him sleep sweetheart. Come down for breakfast. You can be with him when he wakes up"
Sirius looked at Remus again. He didn't want to leave him but he nodded following Euphemia downstairs. And just like that Sirius Black had a crush on his best friend.
It was Sirius idea to become an animagus for Remus. To help him, to be with him. And he managed to do it, to be with Remmy every full moon. And do everything for the boy he loved.
The real Sirius Black secretly hated himself because sometimes he didn't think before acting. He was so afraid of being like his family. And sometimes the nightmares were too strong to ignore. Sometimes he just felt too bad to even hide it.
Normally, Sirius and James would joke around, they wouldn't talk about serious stuff. It wasn't their thing. But James noticed how Sirius' joy lowered everytime before summer breaks or winter breaks. When Sirius had to go home.
Sirius came all brused and crying to James' house the summer of 1976. He didn't speak. Euphemia and Fleamont fixed Sirius' bruses and warmed him up. James was so worried. But Sirius didn't want to speak.
James owled the boys. Remus and Peter. They came the next day. Sirius pretended he was fine of course. He was playing Potter's piano when the boys arrived.
"What happened?" Remus asked clearly worried. "He came all brused last night" whispered James looking at him with concern "I reckon his parents did something to him, but he doesn't want to speak" "Shit.." Peter said.
James approached his friend smiling "Hey mate, look who is here"
Sirius looked at his friends and he instantly smiled. "Heey boys" he said "Guess what? I'm a Potter now. Meaning I would inherite half of their gold" There he was again. Always joking to hide his feelings.
"You wish" James joked.
"Are you okay Sirius?" Remus asked worried
"Yeah. I couldn't be better" Sirius clearly lied "I was hoping to leave that stupid household. I'm free now!" The boys looked at him with concern.
"You're lucky" Peter commented awkwardly "I would like to leave my annoying mother sometimes" Sirius laughed.
"Yeah. We should celebrate" he said "James do you think we can take your father's licor?"
"Don't you dare!"
Remus Lupin sighed he wasn't convinced Sirius was fine.
Later that night, the boys felt asleep on the Potter's leaving room, after drinking and chatting a bit. James Potter woke up to go to the loo as always. And he didn't find Sirius there. James got instantly worried.
James looked all over the house whispering his name not to wake anyone up. Until he got to the second floor bathroom. James opened the door slowly, and to his horror, he saw Sirius there. His naked torso showed some of the worst bruses and scars he's ever seen. He gasped. When Sirius noticed he jumped.
"GET OUT!" Sirius said
"Sirius, what... Let me see"
"No!" Sirius was covering his body, embarrassed. "Sirius" James approached him carefully "Let me see..."
"No leave me alone!"
"Sirius let me..." James tried to touch him but Sirius pushed him away.
"No.."
"Sirius..."
"Fucking leave!!"
Sirius bursted into tears. He broke down like never before, not in front of anyone at least. Not in front of James. He was so embarrassed. James hugged him. "It's okay..." Sirius sobbed "Please don't tell anyone"
"I won't. I won't"
The real Sirius also was too insecure. Always afraid of abandonment. Issues he had aquired from his terrible childhood.
In 1981, Voldemort and his followers were too powerful. There was even a spy within the Order of Phoenix. Sirius became so paranoic. He had been dating Remus for a while now. He was so in love with that boy. But he made up all these ideas on his head about Remus being the spy. That he chose that path before staying another day with Sirius. That his relationship with Remus was too good to be true. "If you are going to leave me just do it!" he had yelled in one of their fights.
"Sirius you're being irrational! I would never do this, how can you think..."
"I don't know you anymore..."
"You are not the boy I feel in love with" said Remus with tears on his eyes "Just because I am a werewolf? You have become so prejudiced. Jumping into conclusions, just like your parents..."
Sirius jumped "SHUT UP! YOU'RE A FUCKING MONSTER" Remus went pale and began crying. Sirius realized what he had said.
"Rem... Remus I'm sorry.. I didn't..."
"Don't touch me..."
Remus started walking again.
"Remus! Please Remus don't leave me... I love you..." Sirius cried dropping to the floor. He had become like his parents and he hated it, he hated himself.
Nobody knew the real Sirius. For many years the entire Wizarding World thought Sirius Black was a murderer. He had the type didn't he? Rebellious, explosive, member of the Black Family. With his tattoos, motorbike, dark robes. Everything fitted. Who wouldn't believe Sirius to be a criminal. A death eater. A killer.
The real Sirius Black was a good boy victim of the circumstances. The real Sirius Black suffered so much. The real Sirius Black deserved love, respect, friendship and happiness. The real Sirius Black deserved better.

Chapter 16: Everything Goes According to Plan
❉───────•~❉•᯽•❉~•───────❉
January 30th, 1976
“Where’s my camera?”
“Be careful — Oi! Don’t step on me!”
“Ouch!”
“Shush!”
The squeaking of floorboards creaked throughout the small room as everyone kept on stumbling into each other, all fidgeting from excitement. That morning, they’d all woken up earlier than usual, decorating the room with streamers, leftover Christmas decor and a large banner that hung above the entrance of the doorway that read, Happy Birthday, Petals! (which was Y/N’s idea — she was very proud of the nickname). Even Mary snuck into their dorm, making everyone wear small pointy party hats as they huddled around Lily’s bed, circling her like vultures and raised their hands high. With a quiet count of three from Marlene, their hands lowered, hovering over Lily’s arms and legs, then shook.
“HAPPY BIRTHDAY!” They bellowed.
Lily woke with a jolt; her eyes flew open as she let out a scream. Her back slammed against the bed frame while Toulouse swiped at them, specifically at Marlene and hissed.
Lily’s heart hammered against her chest and she felt the small prickles of needles subside all over her body. Her hand clutched her nightgown, attempting to even out her breathing. “You could’ve given me a heart attack!”
“Happy birthday, Lils!” Mary repeated before climbing into her bed, hugging her.
She grunted at the impact as a smile replaced her features. Her eyes hopped from person to person before landing on Y/N who gave a sweet smile which had Lily blushing as she averted her eyes back to Mary.
When the group realized that Lily’s birthday fell on a weekend, it left them giddy and beyond excited for the endless opportunities that lay ahead of them. Not only did it leave the entire group to have a small break from their ruthless studying, but they could thoroughly celebrate the day and have enough time to spare for any last-minute plans for the surprise birthday party that night.
“Get your arse up and get ready to start the day!” Marlene declared, already trying to tug her crimson blanket away.
Lily yawned, rubbing her eyes, “Do we have to? I’m tired…”
“Come on! Life is short! It’s time we make memories,” she cried, “You never know when you’re going to die! Would you rather celebrate your birthday as a ghost or six feet under?! I, for one, will not visit your grave.”
Lily rolled her eyes, getting up with a stretch. Dorcas moved to turn on Marlene’s record player, settling a record by Nancy Sinatra as everyone continued with their usual morning routines. Lily got dressed in her favourite long sleeve lilac dress, pulling on tights to prevent herself from freezing. Mary wore her usual gold eyeshadow and wore a red jumpsuit while Marlene dressed coolly in all black. Although, Dorcas decided to stay in bed, still recovering from her nasty flu.
“You look very pretty today,” Y/N told Lily while detangling her hair from the loose braid she had it in. She took a brush and hair styler, primping her hair to Lily’s usual style and placed a headband in her hair.
“I — I, er — thanks!” She replied somewhat flustered.
“No… problem — there! Finished!” She handed Lily a handheld mirror, letting her go over her appearance. Pleased, she turned around to the group.
“So, first order of business, what did you want to do today?” Dorcas asked before going into a fit of coughs. Marlene rushed up to her side and popped off a cork from a nearby potion for her to drink.
Everyone had been slightly worried. It had been four days now and Dorcas still wasn’t recovering from the flu despite the ad of magic and potions. Thankfully today she seemed to perk up, even just a little, but they worried she was pushing herself.
“How about we just stay here, with you? We can all up a Healer and —”
“No,” Dorcas coughed again, she waved her hands in front of her, “I’ll be fine. Don't worry about me. What do you want to do?”
Lily remained quiet for a moment and Y/N assumed she was going to suggest staying in their dorm with Dorcas again, but her eyes gleamed with unusual mischief. Her eyes hopped from person to person before landing on Y/N. “I want to do a prank and I think you’ll love it.”
Everyone’s brows rose. Lily, the goodie-two-shoes prefect, Evans and pranks?! Those two do not belong in the same sentences.
“Okay…” said Mary, nodding her head despite being confused, “We’re listening.”
Lily sat down on her bed, crossing one leg over the other as she motioned everyone to sit. “Do you think it’s possible if we can dye someone’s hair? Obviously, safely,” she used her prefect voice, “But do you think we can?”
A beat went by — that was strangely out of character. What happened to the Lily they knew?
“Yeah,” Marlene begins, “What colour are you thinking?”
“Orange — bright orange with a bit of green.”
Then, Lily turned over to look at her again, a ghost of a smile appearing that told Y/N that whatever she was planning was going to be worth it — especially if Lily out of all people, was going to pull it off.
“Someone's going to be sorry for calling me Carrots.”
❉───────•~❉•᯽•❉~•───────❉
At breakfast, they arrived later than usual after they all planned out their prank. Marlene, who had been a part of too many pranks with Sirius and James, helped the most, while Y/N and Lily created a hair-changing potion using one of Dorcas’ old cauldrons — but unlike James, they stuck to a potions textbook with a reversal potion. Since it was Lily’s idea, she would be the one to slip the potion into Sirius’ drink. So, she tucked the vital into the sleeve of her dress, hidden from prying eyes.
They all huddled around her as they entered the Great Hall; their hands were pushed forward protectively, guarding Lily as if she were a celebrity being swarmed by adoring fans and they were her bodyguards. They paved her way from students while shouting:
“She’s declining photos at the moment!”
“Birthday girl coming through!”
“She’s a very busy lady! Out of the way!”
Lily kept on protesting for them to stop, hiding her face in her hands. As they reached their table, they sat beside the marauders while Lily made sure to take a seat next to Sirius. But, that wasn’t the end of Lily’s humiliation. Mary stood up, clapping to gain everyone’s attention. Once she realized what was about to happen she quickly got up, but Y/N and Sirius clapped a hand on Lily’s shoulder, shoving her back down on the bench.
They opened their mouths, singing,
“Haaaaapppppy birthday to you!” The six of them hollered before the rest of the hall caught on and started singing. “Haaaaapppppy birthday to you! Haaaaapppppy birthday dear Lily —” “CARROTS!” Shouted Sirius at the top of his lungs.
Lily kept shaking her head, blushing incredibly hard — even the tips of her ears started to turn pink. She covered her ears, attempting to muffle out the singing.
Y/N snapped a few photos of her, shoving them into her pockets.
“Haaaaapppppy birthhhhdaaaay tooooo youuuuuuuu!”
The Gryffindors and any Ravenclaws or Hufflepuffs that knew Lily cheered loudly. A few teachers, like Slughorn or McGonagall, made their way over to her, congratulating her along with a few other of her friends from different houses. Well wishes could be heard, along with a few people even handing her cards too.
Even an owl came swooping by when she had her back turned, dropping off a small package addressed from her parents and her sister, Petunia.
Swarmed and distracted, this left the group to huddle together as they leant over the table, forming a small circle of sorts. James was excluded as he sat back and drank a cup of tea flicking through the Daily Prophet.
“Operation: Lily’s birthday party,” said Marlene, “Let’s go over what our positions are for tonight.”
Mary was assigned with Dorcas to decorate the common room while Remus distracted Lily tonight during their rounds. Marlene and Sirius were in charge of drinks and snacks, leaving Peter and Y/N to bake a cake and bring any additional food.
They all quickly pulled apart once the crowd around Lily subsided. She settled back down, nodding and faking a cough. This signalled to the girls as Marlene quickly roped Sirius into a conversation about a New-Maj band he liked; Y/N talked to James about the upcoming Ravenclaw and Slytherin Quidditch match which left Mary to distract both Peter and Remus.
When none of the marauders were looking, Lily popped the corkscrew from the vital and grabbed a bowl of muffins on Sirius’ left. While she lent over, the potion poured directly into Sirius’ cup and she sat back down, smirking to herself. Y/N gave a discreet small high-five to her as they waited.
After a few minutes, parched from his talk with Marlene, Sirius picked up his goblet and tipped back the drink. He took a large gulp, wincing at the taste as he pulled it away from his face, but returned to his conversation like normal.
For several minutes, nothing happened. The girls kept quickly glancing upwards to check out his hair, but nothing: still bleached blond. They sighed, dejected that their plan hadn’t worked and Y/N nudged Lily underneath the table and gave a small smile, trying to cheer her up.
Another ten minutes went by and only then did the root of Sirius’ hair begin to tint into a bright orange colour rather than his dyed hair. This caught the girl's attention, however, the rest of the marauders who were still engaged in their conversations, did not notice as their heads were turned away from him.
His hair rapidly turned into orange as the tips were tinted green. Sirius didn’t seem to notice until James laughed, quickly turning to him to tell him a joke until his eyes widened at his hair.
“Ugh — Padfoot?!”
Sirius looked at him bewildered at his worried tone and expression before catching his reflection in James’ glasses. By now, Peter and Remus looked at him, their eyes widened, leaving the girls to force down their laughter, showing false concern.
“What the fuck?!” Sirius exclaimed, running a hand through it. She’d never seen Sirius this panicked before. More than anything, he looked shocked and even a bit… happy? No — definitely not happy. He continued to chuckle nervously before fretting over his appearance. For once, his laughter did not bother her.
Students began to take notice, pointing over at the Gryffindor table while some even began gossiping with others about the prank. As soon as the bell rang, everyone got up from their seats while the marauders surrounded Sirius, trying to help him out. The girls, on the other hand, got up and ran out of the Great Hall, practically howling.
“Oh my god! I can’t believe I just did that! I did that! We did that!” Lily exclaimed in disbelief before taking a seat down at their usual hangout near the library. “Did you see his reaction?! Jeez! I see why they pull so many pranks now!”
Y/N was about to burst into tears. That was by far the funniest shit she’d ever seen before. Marlene was in a similar boat as she clutched her side. Her stomach hurt from how hard she laughed.
“Lily! You little minx!” Mary cried as flopped beside Lily, her head dropping into her lap.
❉───────•~❉•᯽•❉~•───────❉
Their day was jammed packed. They went skating on the black lake, hit up the library, walked around school grounds which ended up in a huge snowball fight. After a bit, they decided to take a moment to separate themselves to give each other a bit of space while Lily went to find Snape.
This left the rest of the group two hours tops to themselves.
Y/N walked over to Honeydukes, buying a bunch of Jelly Slugs and a couple of other things before dashing back to the castle; she needed to wrap all of her presents and she promised to help Dorcas wrap hers too.
Before she entered Hogwarts again, Y/N took a moment to herself and enjoyed the small moment of peace around her. The soft crunching of snow, the cold breeze and the stillness — how quiet it was — there was hardly a moment since the break that Y/N had felt the comfortable peace Hogwarts had to offer.
Stepping inside the corridors, the atmosphere suddenly changed with the torches ablaze and a constant bubbling ambience that never seemed to settle.
In the distance, to her right, she could hear distant shouting and a rush of footsteps nearing. Out of nowhere, James seemed to come barreling towards her.
“Whiskers!” He yelled, sending her a fast wink as he continued to run down the corridor, making a sharp turn. Then, Marlee popped out, dashing after James.
“Marls?! What’s happening?”
“Running from Filch — get him off my trail!”
“What did you do?!”
“Told me to cover up, so I hexed him — Potter called him a rent boy!”
“Are you going to miss the party?” She yelled as Marlene’s body kept getting smaller and smaller as she ran. Y/N began to panic, without Marlene, surely things would take a lot longer than planned.
“Like hell I am! I won’t be late!”
Marlene disappeared, shortly being replaced by Filch who ran in a strange mixture of running and hopping.
“Where did they go?” He breathed, bending down and clutching his knees. “I heard them over here, where are they?”
And so Y/N decided to have some fun. “Who?”
“You know!”
“Um — you mean the one with blond hair?” “And the boy with black hair!”
“Oh! Yes, I know who… What’re their names again? Severus Snape and —” she paused, trying to think of another blond person, “Ugh — Sirius Black?”
Well, he used to be blond.
“No! The Potter boy and McKinnon! Where are they?!”
“Hmm… Oh! Oh! I think they went,” she pointed outside to the thick, cold snowy path, “That way!”
Filch didn’t even question her and ran off. Laughing, Y/N ran away from Filch; the last thing she wanted to do was face his wrath once he knew she lied.
Opening the door to her dorm, Dorcas was asleep. She walked up to grab a nearby folded blanket and placed it over her body to keep her warm before starting working.
She cleared off a table, unfolding her wrapping paper and wrapped the sides before creasing them, taping everything down with a pretty bow.
❉───────•~❉•᯽•❉~•───────❉
Nobody had seen Marlene or James for the past couple of hours — they’d even skipped dinner which caused everyone to go into a state of panic. Without Marlene, Sirius would be in a lot of trouble completing his task alone.
The common room was filled with fighting in hushed whispers as Lily and Remus were set to leave for their rounds in a couple of minutes.
“I’m going to kill her,” Mary fumed, “The one day they’re not supposed to go mucking around, they pull this!”
“How about we find them —” “And lose the little time we have now?”
Sirius, in particular, was on edge, aggravated, as he turned towards Y/N, “Why didn’t you think of saying anything sooner?”
“Because I didn’t think Marlene and James would be stupid enough to get caught! Not today!”
He closed his mouth, his lips pressed into a tight line. Even he hadn’t expected them to be that stupid either — not today.
“Everyone, shut up. All of you! Why don’t we take a moment to breathe?” Remus said calmly, effectively shutting the entire group up. In moments like these, Y/N understood why he was a prefect. He breathed in and looked to Sirius, “You can do this by yourself, can you?”
“Course not, Moony. Have a little faith in me!” Sirius gave a tenacious laugh, although forced.
Remus’ eyes then flicker to Y/N and Peter, “This shouldn’t affect you, will it?”
They shook their heads.
“Okay then, we’ll continue as planned. I’ll buy you as much time as —” He quickly cut himself off as everyone’s ears perked up. They all heard it, Lily’s footsteps. With that, Y/N, Sirius and Peter weaved their way out of the common room, walking quickly to avoid Lily and Remus from catching up to them. Unfortunately, Sirius took the invisibility cloak before she or Peter had the time to ask for it.
They sneakily made their way down a flight of moving stairs, passing several empty corridors and made their way down to the kitchens.
Once they began working on Lily’s cake, Y/N instantly knew why Peter was assigned to the kitchens.
He instructed her most of the time, telling her which ingredients or utensils to find. Currently, she grabbed a metal ladle and watched as Peter churn the ingredients, watching as they blend into a seamless, smooth mixture. She sat back most of the time, baking and cooking was never something she was great at.
Y/N rifled through the cabinets, searching for a cake tin. “Ah-hah! Found some!”
They were heart-shaped, rather than the usual circular ones. She placed them onto the counter before turning her attention to grease the pans and focus on making a couple of sandwiches.
“So,” she started, trying to make small talk, “Where’d you learn to bake so well?”
Peter went pink as he wordlessly flicked his wand; the cake tin and floated it into one of the pre-heated ovens and turned to make the frosting. “Erm — it was James’ mum, Euphemia, who taught me. She’s a great baker — honestly she’s good at everything.
“James and I grew up close to each other; we’re childhood friends. He never did fancy baking — liked cooking more and I felt bad he never wanted to help out Euphemia. So one day I offered to help and now whenever I’m at their house, I help around — like a tradition — and I do it in my spare time now. Helps clear my head.”
Just then, two house-elves popped in, each holding a cup of tea for each student. Y/N gave her thanks while Peter turned to talk to them, making them laugh and asking questions that seemingly were a follow-up from a previous conversation. A light dust of flour scattered the side of his cheek while he smiled with them. The more he spoke with the elves, the more Y/N grew fascinated.
Out of all the marauders, even beating out Sirius and James who were amongst the most popular students at Hogwarts, Peter was the most liked out of all of them, especially amongst her friend group.
He wasn’t James who at times was a bit too much and talked an awful lot. He wasn’t Sirius who was dramatic, nor was he Remus who was quiet and intimidating. Peter was just Peter — who was a bit skittish, insanely good at Wizard’s chess, bold enough to sneak into the Slytherin's common room all by himself and loved to bake, clearly was in the kitchens often enough to have full-blown conversations with the elves when most people would so much as spit on before walking away.
It spoke volumes of his character, especially since he was from a Pureblood family; bound to grow up entitled and look down to his inferiors.
She noticed Peter had quite a lot of friends, mostly women, always seeming willing to help someone in dire need whether it be listening, giving advice or comforting another person. It only made her recollect the time Peter had engaged in small conversations with her, seeking to make her feel more included. Like that one time he’d mentioned the Holy Harpies. Small, ostensibly insignificant, but contemplating it now; he'd been trying to make her comfortable — settled — welcoming her with open arms into his group; into the marauders and the girls.
Within moments, there was a newfound appreciation towards the boy.
The sandwiches they made, along with pork pies stolen, were stuffed into a bag, ready to be transported. Y/N boredly spun her wand between the length of her finger while Peter whirled around in his seat until the ring of the timer went off. The elves were already gone, zipped away into thin air as they grew tired with sleep.
Placing a cooling spell onto the cake to avoid the icing from melting off, Peter began layering on a thin layer of icing.
“What’s Lily’s favourite colour? Is it still purple?” He asked. Y/N gave a curt nod.
“Never been a fan of purple. One time I walked into my Grandmum’s room, she only wore purple knickers for my Grandad. Makes me shiver all the time — honestly, the woman traumatized me. S’pose it might be my Boggart.”
Peter also had a sense of humour.
While diligently working, she marvelled at his creation. A two-layer heart-shaped cake, decorated all in light purple icing covered the surface before Peter piped small designs and swirls onto it.
“Wow. I feel like I can barely hold my wand at times yet you —”
“My, my — what do we have here? Students out of bed?” A voice came from behind them. “Tut, tut, tut.”
The two craned their heads backwards where Peeves smiled and let out a squeal of delight.
“Peeves,” Peter began politely. He slowly set down his piping bag and put his hands up in a submissive, yet defensive manner, as if he’d encountered a feral animal. “Please — please, we’re doing something for a dear friend. Don’t get us thrown out.”
“What would happen if I told Filch about you,” the ghost responded in a saintly voice, but his eyes glimmered wickedly. He brought a finger to the side of his face, tapping his index finger to his cheek, thinking.
“What to do, what to do…”
“Psst, Pete, what’s happening?”
Nobody answered her. With Sirius gone with the cloak, it left her and Peter completely out in the open wishlist a ghost threatening them — not to mention the lie she told Filch earlier, there was no way she nor Peter were going to get out of this unscathed.
“Please,” he pleaded.
She looked at him, wide-eyed and started panicking. She repeated louder, “What’s happening? What do we do?”
Peeves then grinned largely and started doing large loops into the air. His cackling rang through the empty corridors, becoming progressively louder.
“Shit. Run.”
“STUDENTS OUT OF BED IN THE HALLWAY! I REPEAT, THERE ARE STUDENTS OUT OF BED IN THE HALLWAY BY THE KITCHENS!”
Peter grabbed the cake while Y/N swiped the bag filled with the rest of the food, piping bags and a small jar of edible decor. They ducked under Peeves, dashing out of the kitchens leaving a huge mess for the unfortunate elves to clean up the next morning.
Peeves floated behind them slowly as he watched them run. Peter ran slower, trying to make sure he didn’t face plant into the cake while Y/N urged him to run faster.
“He usually helps us,” Peter grits out, “But he’s a two-faced git! Never trust him unless you’re doing a prank! Never!”
Just then, Peter lost his footing and tripped over his feet, letting out a half-shriek, mixing in with Peeves’ evil laughter. They sucked in a sharp breath, watching as the cake flew through the air but Y/N, quick on her feet, grabbed her wand, casting a quick non-verbal charm and watched as the cake and plate froze mid-air before the plate clanked down first, the cake following and settling ontop. She ran up to it, cradling and wrapping a protective arm around it to prevent the cake from dropping again. She called out for Peter to get up before he took the cake again, this time with a shout from Y/N to not drop it, before leading her into a secret passway down the corridor.
Peeves could be heard laughing maniacally down the hall before they both could hear Filch’s footsteps running towards his shouts.
Peter maneuvered through the passage while Filch’s voice became more and more distant as they continued to hurriedly walk. Lily and Remus’ shift was going to end soon and it would be a lost cause if they didn’t make it up to the common room.
They both turned sharply, about to exit before Y/N crashed into a shadowy figure, tripping but being caught swiftly by the figure. They cradled her head to keep her from falling, but the sudden scare caused both students to open their mouths to scream, loudly.
“It’s me! It’s me!” Sirius’ familiar voice runs out, waving a hand to shush Peter while the other was still on her back. Y/N felt herself relax and erratic heartbeat to calm. She’d never been so happy to see Sirius before. Until she realized that they were still touching and they both ripped away.
Her heart spiked, and she felt oddly light headed. Soon enough, her eyes then immediately went to his hair and held back from chuckling — perhaps right now was not the time.
“I came once I heard people shouting and I figured it was you two. You okay?” His eyes darted to her at the last part.
Perhaps her eyes tricked her, that she was too tired or bumping into Sirius too hard, but it felt like he’d been making sure if she was alright. Since when did Sirius care? Although, Peter didn’t seem to notice or he’d ignored the interaction entirely.
“F-fine,” he wheezed out, “Peeves… Peeves caught us while we were decorating the cake. We’re not done yet.”
“What time is it?” She asked.
Sirius placed his wand in his mouth while pulling out a silver pocket watch from his trousers. “Ten to ten.”
“We have time then.”
Peter placed the cake down gently on a nearby ledge in the passage, causing Sirius to cast Lumos. Sirius kept a watch out, his head moving from side to side every so often as he listened for anyone or anything walking past them.
Pulling out the icing bags and sprinkles, Peter began to finish his work. He continued to create flowers as Y/N wrote on the cake (although with help from her wand), ‘Happy 16th Birthday, Lily!’ and then placed a couple of candles around.
As Peter continued to add his small touches, Y/N’s eyes drifted around, not landing on anything in particular but zoned in on the shining of Sirius’ rings. Her eyes slowly drifted upwards, studying him. The remainder of the full moon that recently passed spilled a muted milky light onto the stone floor and touched Sirius’ face. He wasn’t wearing his normal school robes but dressed in Muggle clothing. Black jeans, a nice sweater, notable messy hair and his body language was relaxed. This Sirius was tolerable, likeable even. She liked this Sirius — but perhaps it was because he finally wasn’t talking. This Sirius gave her an insight into what he was like aside from his annoying, bitchy self. Loose, wild, messy in an elegant way, confident — in his prime — looking for a thrill, sneaking around; mischief.
Suddenly, Sirius’ wand went out as he ducked down, huddling beside her and Peter.
“What —”
They met each other’s eyes, locking, as he brought a finger up to his lips which made her flicker down to look at them, quickly.
Their eye contact was brief, so brief, nonetheless, it contained a flurry of emotions too complicated for Y/N to process.
But being up close for those brief seconds, she was able to examine him — truly, for the first time. Her eyes traced over the singular scar on his face, hidden by his hair that made her wonder where he’d gotten it from. Soon the questions enclosed her mind like an overflowing river.
His small, unexpected gesture had been one of many which had been nicer and oddly thoughtful recently.
Sirius’ brain was written in cryptic code — so advanced and intertwined — too complicated for her to understand. She wanted to understand his actions.
Even if she didn’t like to admit it, Sirius had a depth that greatly attracted her. She had so many unanswered questions.
And since her brain ran a mile a minute, her emotions weren’t filled with that annoyance of ranger — no, for once she didn’t feel any kind of resentment towards him.
Maybe it was because they both had one goal in mind: Lily’s party and that working against each other during something as high stakes like this would fail a good friend of theirs. Or maybe it was that instead of her or him starting something — or maybe — maybe it was because the boy was so close to her, closer than they ever had been before. Or maybe it was the adrenaline that set every fibre of her being on fire — making her feel like honey-dipped in tea — or the odd thunderous throbbing of her heat spiking suddenly; Y/N grew warm all over.
It didn’t help that Sirius didn’t look angry either, but rather a sudden cognizance filled his gaze, looking both shocked and calm.
But quickly, she just chalked up her flurry of emotions to adrenaline or wanting to hex him — either worked.
For Sirius, he felt utter disdain as his gaze fixated on her. He was tempted to flicker down to her lips but her eyes, bright and filled with glittery stars, were enchanting. It scorned him — made his heart beat in an iambic pentameter, creating its own sonnet that would make even the most accomplished poets jealous.
He wanted to refuse her presence. Wanted to focus on anything but her.
But Sirius was a weak man. He failed. He always did.
Their eyes ripped away and they heard the familiar sound of footsteps and voices neared them as they spotted the familiar red hair and tall figure.
Their voices were slightly muffled.
“— times have changed! You aren’t a second year anymore.” Lily chimed while they walked.
Remus shook his head, instead of flicking his wand as a dozen torches lit up in mere seconds. “Whatever you say, Red.”
She swatted at his shoulder while Remus ruffled her hair, his smiling becoming genuine.
“Seriously, I support it.
“Merlin, Evans — it’s not going to happen. Look at me!”
“Not with that attitude and you look more than fine!”
Peter shifted his eight onto his other foot which made an audible scuffle. However, it was so quiet that neither she nor Sirius caught on but Remus, whose head swirled in their direction, did. He took a deep inhale, a look in his eyes, confusion melting into realization — there and gone — as if he knew they were there despite being hidden by the shadows of the night. He turned his head once more and started walking faster while Lily skipped down, trying to catch up to him.
Remus Lupin was an odd one alright.
Nobody moved until they were positive they were gone.
The entire night had been a shitshow.
“Okay,” Sirius exhaled, he felt his entire body tense up, “Let’s get out of here.”
“Do you think the cake is okay?” Y/N asked Peter as Sirius tossed the invisibility cloak over their bodies, hiding them from onlookers.
“Bloody well hope so,” he grunted, “We didn’t get caught almost three times, freeze our arse, almost get a month's detention, and probably destroyed the kitchen for it not to be great.”
Without another word, they made their way back to the common room where everyone made a fuss about how late they were. Quickly, Peter placed any last-minute designs, Mary handed everyone small party horns, Dorcas put up last-minute balloons while Y/N and Sirius helped each other layout all the snacks and drinks — this time, civilly.
“God… How’d you even get this much? Me and Peter were in the kitchens and we couldn’t even get half of what you got.”
At this, Sirius smirked before collapsing into the plush velvet couch behind him, an exhausted sigh as he sank further in. But as soon as the smirk was there, it was gone as everyone heard the clicking of the portrait open.
“Hide — HIDE!”
All the lights were blown out as they all hid behind the couches — they heard quiet footsteps — someone shuffling towards the middle — footsteps getting louder — louder — and —
Sirius lit the entire room as they all sprung up and Y/N quickly held her camera to her face and snapped a photo as everyone shouted,
“SUPRISE! HAPPY BIRTHD —” “Godric fucking Gryffindor!”
“... I’m going to KILL YOU MCKINNON! POTTER!”
Everyone groaned in disappointment at James and Marlene’s arrival before they heard the faint sounds of footsteps outside of the portrait again. Mary yanked Marlene down, shoving her behind the couch along with forcing a party hat on her head and confetti in her hands. Sirius grabbed James by his red sweater and rushed him up the stairs before getting back into place.
“Told you,” Marlene whispered into her ear, “Wasn’t going to be late.”
The real Lily could be heard as she spoke excitedly with Remus. The portrait swung open — everyone waited before she stepped inside — they put most of their weight onto their toes, waiting to jump — Sirius’ wand was about to light up the room — Y/N held her camera — Dorcas and Marlene were going to throw up the confetti —
“Why is it so dark —”
“SUPRISE! HAPPY BIRTHDAY, LILY!”
Light rushed back into the room and Lily’s face lit up brighter than the sun. Mountains of sweets were piled into bowls while a small table was lined with drinks. Sirius outdid himself, seemingly raiding Honeydukes; there was taffy, Bertie Bott’s Every Flavour Beans, Chocolate Frogs, sherbet lemon, caldron cakes — plus the food Y/N and Peter had hauled from the kitchen; sandwiches, fruit, crisp (she made the mistake of saying chips in front of James and Marlene only to then be hassled by them for it) and pork pies.
ABBA played in the background, much to Remus’ demise as her purple cake sat in the middle on a table, all the candles lit. They all ushered Lily to blow out the candles while they all held wrapped gifts, cards and small gift bags.
“You didn’t need to do this!” Lily said, although there was a thankful look in her eyes, “This is too much! Thank you!”
“Anything for you, Evans!”
“You’re lucky we didn’t bring fireworks!” Marlene and Sirius grinned.
“You would have all gotten detention —” “Stop being a goody goody, not today, Lils!” Sirius slung his arm around the redhead.
Gifts went around; Lily had gotten so many cards from other teachers and students, handmade jewellery from Dorcas, Remus knit her a sweater with hearts, Mary and Marlene gave a joint gift, Peter bought her a small yet overly fancy tea set Lily had mentioned offhandedly before, Sirius gave her a first edition books she loved while Y/N gave her the gifts she bought from that old book store. Alice had even dropped by and given her a small package before heading back up for the night.
They all smiled widely at her and were thrilled to see her so happy. Y/N lifted her camera and took an abundance of photos throughout the entire night, before shoving them into the back pocket of her pants.
By the time everyone reluctantly returned to their dormitories, it was three o’clock in the morning and everyone was beyond tired, deciding it was time for bed.
“Night,” Dorcas called out. Marlene yawned loudly before falling into her bed, muttering out another round of happy birthdays to Lily. They were out the fastest — soft snores filling the room.
White specks seemed to blur through her vision as Y/N rubbed her tired eyes. She was about to call over to Lily, say goodnight, roll over and sleep before the creaking of her bed altered her to Lily padding her way to the bed. Y/N looked up at her, confused before scouting over for Lily to slip in, under her blankets.
“Are you okay, Petals?”
“Beyond perfect,” she replied with a wistful voice, “I’m so thankful. Thank you.”
Y/N chuckled, although she was a tad perplexed, “Y’know, it wasn’t just me who helped.”
“I know, but still. This birthday feels different from all the other ones I’ve had and I can’t help but think it’s also because of you.”
Lily Evans never ceased to amaze her. “Well, I hope you mean that in a good way,” she teased.
“Obviously!”
Silence fell around them before Toulouse hopped onto Y/N’s bed and settled himself between the two friends.
Y/N’s eyes wondered to the banner: petals... “What’s your favourite flower? Surely it’s not lilies, are they?”
Lily gave a small huff of amusement and shook her head, “No. Peonies or irises. What about yours?”
“I’m not sure. Maybe I’ll just say lilies for now.” She said absentmindedly before her eyes shot open. “Shit! I forgot —” Y/N reached over Lily and opened her drawer with the pouch of Jelly slugs before placing them into Lily’s hands. “Forgot to give you these.”
There was a soft look in Lily’s eyes and something Y/N couldn’t quite place. Her friend was acting quite strange.
“It feels like I’ve known you forever,” Lily says softly, her face flushed a rosy colour.
She stayed silent for a while, at a complete loss for words. Even a slight look of confusion crossed Lily’s face.
“Yeah, you too.”

To Be a Chocolatier
Breakups are fun. Typically they consist of muggle films, ice cream, chocolate, firewhiskey, sad songs, and occasionally some parties. These were all true for you, except, you weren’t as sad as you were letting on. True, you had just been dumped by a decent Ravenclaw, and you had been dating long enough for the “L-word” to spill out of your lips, but that doesn’t mean you were sad. He wasn’t the one. You knew that from the beginning, but he was fun and was comforting to have around. Now, two days after the breakup you sit in the common room with a book in your lap as the fire roars. It was pretty late considering the silence. Typically, it was too hectic for you to get some relaxation, but tonight it’s quiet. Too quiet. That means the infamous Marauders were out doing something.
You flipped through the pages in the chapter, enjoying the warmth that emanated from the fireplace. You were aware of most of your surroundings, however, you didn’t hear the girl step out from her dorm into the common room. She stood by the stairs and quietly observed you, trying to understand you.
“You feeling alright Y/N? I know this breakup is pretty rough, but you should really get some sleep.” It was Lily Evans, a long-time friend, who was too pure to understand the truth of the situation. Lies, especially about love, are a complex concept, and  the clever witch could never understand. So, you play along. She feels like she’s helping, and you don’t get a guilt trip about leading anyone on, although he was the one who broke up with you. And, it was to be with another girl, so who was really leading who?
In the end, you nodded your head and said that you would be up in a minute, and that you just wanted to finish your chapter by the fire. Lily seemed to believe you and went back up to the dorms. A few pages later, you heard the portrait and assumed that the boys were probably returning from whatever mischievous quest they were on. Three of them paid no mind to you as they giggled their way back up to their own dorm. One of the boys, however, caught wind of your presence.
“Y/L/N right?”
“That would be me. You are Lupin, Gryffindor prefect and babysitter to those three,” You said motioning your head up to where the boys just were. He chuckled and nodded.
“I heard what happened with that Ravenclaw kid. I know we don’t know each other well, but are you okay?” He seemed almost uncomfortable with the conversation.
“Yeah I’m fine. Things happen I guess. I’ll move on soon enough,” although truth be told I already had. He sat down on the couch next to me.
“What are you reading?” You closed the book with your finger on your current page and showed him the cover. It was a muggle book you picked up from a muggleborn a few weeks back. It was just something you used to pass the time. You both sat next to each other with a comfortable silence. All that could be heard was the crackling fire. Then, you heard a bit of rustling and looked over to see him pull out some chocolate. As he was breaking off a piece for him to eat, you held out your hand to him. He looked at you incredulously. You motioned your hand towards him. Eventually he placed the piece of chocolate into your hand, and you shoved it into your mouth.
“Chocolate cures everything you know,” you said, still savoring the sweet taste.
“Not everything,” he responded bitterly. You glanced over at his features.
“Well, maybe those things that it isn’t curing don’t need to be cured,” you offered.
“Maybe. What about you, are you cured of your breakup yet?” You laughed.
“After that small piece? It’s gonna take more than that my friend.” You began to get up, realizing that it was getting late, and you did have to go to class in the morning. You wished him a goodnight and walked up to your dorm. A small smile glued onto you face the whole way up.
For a few days after this occurrence, you would see Remus around school, and in classes. If you saw that he had chocolate, you would wander over to him with a hand raised, awaiting your prize. Everytime he would chuckle at your child-like attitude and shake his head, but ultimately, you always got what you wanted. The other Marauders were becoming more interested in these interactions. Remus was not someone who was often involved with the girls at Hogwarts, in fact, this was the first real time that they saw something like this from him.
When it came time to go to Hogsmeade, you made your way with Lily by your side. She was complaining about some stunt that James pulled. You knew that she secretly liked him back, but you would never call her out on those feelings, at least not until she was able to realize them herself. You both walked into Honeydukes, where you were scanning the aisles looking for the best sweets.
“So, are we finally going to stop stealing my precious chocolate away from me?” I smiled to myself before I turned to meet his face.
“Well, it just so happens that the cure for a breakup requires a higher dosage of sugar than what you have been offering me. This doesn’t mean you’re off the hook quite yet,” you finished with a smirk.
From afar, four pairs of eyes were watching this encounter. The three boys and Lily were amazed to see what was becoming of their friends. Sirius and James made it their mission to get Remus to ask you out. Peter was along for the ride, since he liked seeing his friend happy. Lily, on the other hand, was skeptical. You were supposed to be recovering from a breakup, so why were you so quick to move on? She knew Remus, and thought he was a pretty decent guy, and she didn’t want him to get hurt by becoming the rebound.
You were unaware of how you were feeling. In your past relationships, there had been a sort of convenience and comfort to not being alone, but none of those boys managed to elicit real emotions. You were giddy for the first time in your life, and it was scary, but also exciting. Everytime you were around Remus, it was like things were falling into place, and you couldn’t have been happier. Remus was also beginning to feel something for you. It seemed as though whenever you were around, he had a smile tattooed on his face. Even if you weren’t around, he could feel his lips start to turn upwards with thoughts about the next time he would see you.
A few nights after the trip to Hogsmeade, you sat in the common room with all four of the marauders. You were over on a chair minding your own business with another book in your hand. Occasionally, you would glance up and peek at Remus. Sometimes, your eyes would meet and you would send him a playful wink. During one of these instances, Sirius and James made the choice that tonight was the night to get you two together.
“Prongs, I think I need help on that transfiguration assignment.”
“Sure Padfoot, let’s do that. Wormtail, we may need you for, uh, moral support.” With that the two schemers dragged their friend up to the dorms leaving you and Remus alone in the common room. He looked up at you and motioned his head to the recently vacant place beside. You put down your book with a playful pout, but smiled as you made your way to him. The next few hours consisted of different conversations about everything and nothing. You were both now laying down on the ground, when you sat up and looked at him.
“If you were a muggle,” you paused.
“If I were a muggle what?” He urged sitting up to face you.
“No. It’s dumb. Forget it.” You went to lay back down but he grabbed you and pulled you up.
“Let me hear it. C’mon, I deal with those three idiots upstairs. Anything you say sounds smart.”
“Okay. If you were a muggle, what would be your dream job, and don’t you dare say a teacher or professor, because that is just plain cheating.” You spit out the last part knowing he would choose the easiest of the options.
“I don’t know. Maybe, uh...He looked around the room and saw a wrapper. How about a chocolate maker?” You laughed obnoxiously at his answer. “What? It’s not that funny,” he replied sheepishly.
“Oh, Mr. Moony, to be a chocolatier. What a fitting dream it is.” You continued to laugh at his choice, and eventually he joined in.
Your night together ended in joyous laughter. It was perfect, and you soon found yourself in a place you never thought you would end up.  You were falling hopelessly in love with Remus Lupin, and there was no you were coming back.
The next morning, you had slept in. You didn’t mean to, but your dreams were filled with Remus and you just couldn’t bring yourself back to reality where you two weren’t together. At breakfast, Lily made her way to the Marauders to talk to Remus about his relationship with you. She wanted the both of you to be happy, but she didn’t want anyone to get hurt in the process.
“Lupin. Can I talk to you for a minute?” Remus looked at the boys, but eventually got up to talk with Lily.
“You know, Y/N is still dealing with her breakup, and I just can’t help but wonder how you fall into all of this. I mean, they were together for a while, and I’m just worried that she is using you to get over him. I’m sorry.” She finished with a nervous look on her face. Remus’ expression was unreadable. Was he angry at Lily for making such accusations? Was he upset at himself for falling for someone who was using him? He needed time to process so that is what he did.
Later that day, you saw him in the halls with Sirius by his side. You wandered over to him like you had been doing all of this time, but he just shouldered past you and left you confused and alone. Sirius looked as though he was apologetic, but even he didn’t know what was going on. When he asked Remus about it, he was told to “mind his own damn business.” This was a clear sign that Remus was pissed, and no one could figure why.
This occurred for another week. Both you and Remus were feeling the effects of this distance. You two had grown so accustomed to the time you spent together. The smiles and inside jokes were gone and no one knew why, except for Remus and Lily. They boys were annoyed with the sudden irritability of their friend, but they thought it had to do with his furry little problem. Well, the full moon had gone and nothing changed. Remus was still bitter, and no one could stand it anymore.
On the other hand, Lily was seeing what real heartbreak looked on you. Before, you were reserved, but there was nothing that told her that you were really grieving the loss of a relationship. The lack of contact with Remus was taking a toll on you. You were sad all of the time. You hardly smiled anymore, and you lost the spark that made you so incredible. It wasn’t until you started skipping meals to avoid having to look at Remus that she realized that she had made a huge mistake.
One morning, she went to breakfast alone, which concerned Remus because you typically tried to talk to him or the other Marauders in the morning. This time it was different, and he was worried, but more than anything he was angry. He shouldn’t have had this much of an impact on you, especially when this was all your fault. You were the one who was using him to get over your ex. At least that was what he thought. After letting these thoughts get to his head, he made the decision to leave the great hall and take some time to himself in the library.
This was the perfect opportunity for the three boys to get an idea over what happened from Lily. She told them everything, including how she thinks that she made a huge mistake. Sirius and James started plotting different ways to get the two together, but Lily knew that she just needed to come clean to her friend and pray that you would forgive her in the end.
Later that day, you were in bed contemplating which sweets to eat, hoping that they would end the emptiness you felt inside. You couldn’t bring yourself to eat any of the chocolate you had bought prior to the silent treatment you were receiving from the boy that made your heart pound. As you picked up some sugar quills, you heard the door open. When Lily appeared before you, she looked desperate.
“There’s something that I need to tell you, and I just need to start by saying that I am so sorry.” She paused and waited for your reaction.
“Go on then,” you said carefully.
“Well, you see, uh, a little while ago, I um, had a chat with Remus. I was trying to look out for the both of you. I may have, just slightly, insinuated that he was your rebound, and that nothing good could come out of whatever you two had going on. Listen Y/N, I am so sorry, and I see now that what I did was wrong, and I know you will never forgive me but-”
“Stop rambling,” you interrupted. “I’m not mad, well I am, but I understand. I was playing up the whole breakup thing before and you were looking out for Remus. I understand where you were coming from, but I just wish you would have talked to me about it before. This thing with Remus is more than anything I’ve had before.” Lily watched you with a small smile. She made a huge mistake in thinking that you didn’t really care for Remus. Here you are, already plotting how to get him back. You never would have done that for anyone else. It was refreshing for Lily to see you growing up and falling in love.
“Lily, you were the one who caused this issue though, so I’m gonna need your help.”
“Whatever you need. I can’t see you mope around the dorm anymore.”
“Good, but this plan may require a bit of flirting with a Potter. Do you think you can handle it?” She laughed.
“I don’t even think I need to flirt to get him to help.” She thought back to this morning and how desperate the boys were to get their friend back up in high spirits.
The rest of the day and the following morning were spent making sure that the plan was perfect. That night, you set everything into motion. You had been waiting by the fire in the common room, just out of sight from anyone who was entering through the portrait hole. Sirius was bringing Remus to the common room, while Peter and Lily managed to keep everyone out of the common room for as long as possible. James was assigned to charming the common room to keep Remus inside for a little while. It wouldn’t last long, but it should be long enough that you two make up.
When you heard two voices enter the common room, you panicked slightly. What if this didn’t work? Had you really lost the only person you’ve ever really fallen for when you did nothing wrong? You were petrified to say the least. When he finally got wind of your presence, he went to rush up to his dorm but James pushed him back.
“You two are going to talk whether you, Mr. I’m-too-stubborn-for-my-own-good, like it or not.” With that, the two pranksters left you two alone. Remus looked at you with a look that you could only define as that of betrayal.
“You know, I lied that night when you gave me that piece of chocolate.” He looked at you with confusion written in his features. “I was cured of my breakup long before you showed up. I didn’t understand what heartbreak felt like until you stopped talking to me. I’m not trying to make you feel guilty, you weren’t aware of the truth. Don’t get mad at Lily either. She wasn’t aware either. Listen, from what I hear from the boys, you have been pretty insufferable lately, and I know that it’s my fault but I think I found a way to fix it.”
Remus watched you carefully as you walked towards him. You held out your hand to him, and in it was some chocolate. His eyes trailed up to yours where you held a hopeful smirk.
“Chocolate cures everything, and right now, I need you to be cured so you can see just how much you mean to me Remus. You were never the rebound. You’re so much more than that to me, and I don’t want to spend another day of my life without you there with me.”
He silently grabbed the chocolate and began to unwrap it. He stopped and looked up at you with a mischievous grin.
“It’s melted, my dear.” You looked at the item in his hand and facepalmed.
“I’m so sorry Remus, I was waiting for you by the fire, and well, chocolate and heat don’t really mix all that well. I thought this was going to be romantic.” You felt so stupid. How could you mess up the easiest part of the plan?
He scooped up a small bit on his finger and sucked on it. “It’s still delicious.”
You looked up and grabbed some as well just as he had done before.
“Darling,” he began, “you’ve got a little something on your lip.” You smiled.
“So do you,” you said before closing the gap between the two of you. When your lips met, it was heavenly. The combined taste of chocolate and Remus sent you to another realm. You brought your hand to his face, unaware of the chocolate that was still on your fingers. When he finally pulled away, you saw the mess you had made. Small giggles spewed from your mouth, and they soon turned into large laughs.
“Mr. Moony, you really are taking this whole chocolatier thing too far,” you managed to get out between laughs. He brought his hand up and felt the residue of his sweet gift. He looked at your face, completely guilt-free, and down at the bar of melted chocolate. He smiled and sneakily swiped a few of his fingers into the chocolate. He waltzed over to you as you tried to calm your breathing after your giggle fit.
“Well, I think it’s about time that you become Mrs. Chocolatier. Don’t you think?” He dragged his fingers down your cheeks and across your lips, as your face contorted into that of pure surprise.
“Wow, you really do look the part now. Oh, to be a chocolatier Ms.Y/L/N.” He brought you in for another sweet kiss. But was interrupted by the sound of gagging from Sirius and James.
“We leave you alone for a couple of minutes and this is what you two do? Look at this mess. And to think Moony, you call us children.” You and Remus just giggled at the small ranting from Sirius before he pulled you in for another kiss.
