what i imagine the day to day lives of the guys in their shared rooms to look like <3
☆ CHARLIE AND CAMERON ☆
》 have a cliché line deviding their room- Cameron is very tidy and keeps his half all neat and clean and hates the look of Charlie's side of the room because it is a literal mess, and they regularly argue about it. ("Could you at least keep the floor visible for God's sake, how many layers of clothes are-" "Who cares?! Who are you trying to impress anyway, not like anyone would want to come to your room")
》 used to play very petty pranks on each other, the whole childish "hand in warm water while sleeping, hiding clothes, stealing homework" stuff, until the poets were so annoyed by their constant bickering that they made them stop.
》 cannot study together AT ALL. is anyone surprised by this? charlie gets all annoyed and doesn't want cameron to explain stuff to him "like I'm stupid", cameron gets impatient super quickly
》 had a fight about posters. charlie wanted to shock good little christian cameron and put a poster of a naked woman above his bed- cameron got Nolan to look at their room. Charlie kinda lost that argument.
》 have a sort of secret truce about one thing: cameron used to have pretty bad nightmares when they were younger and would wake up crying and all that, charlie has never ever mentioned it to any of the others because cameron promised he'd read them one of the letters charlie gets from his mum if he did.
》 are forced to be the first ones to wish each other happy birthday in the morning because they share a room- it feels wrong, so they do it in the snarkiest way possible. ("Wake up idiot, I survived another year of living with you. Congratulations to me.")
》 will still help each other out in emergencies. one time, charlie was unusually stressed about an assignment, he was almost failing the class and nearly crying because he knew what his parents might do if he did. he woke up to his essay having been corrected and a note saying "shut up, i can't sleep with you crying".
another time, cameron accidentally smashed a window in with a ball or something and was severely panicking, almost physically sick with fear, only to find out that charlie took on the blame and had gotten both detention and physical punishment. when he got to their room, charlie just said "helps my reputation. you should learn how to do sports though, nerd."

☆ PITTS AND MEEKS ☆
》 sing silly songs while getting dressed, and dance in the goofiest way possible. this became a habit bc they weren't allowed to listen to music and pitts said he always used to turn on the radio to get dressed at home, and meeks was like "why not make the music ourselves", and so now when you walk down the hallway while everyone's getting ready before class, you'll hear the two of them singing cheesy songs, chances are pitts is imitating a guitar solo.
》 read comic books together but have different reading speeds and so they're constantly ripping the comic book from each other's hands like OMFG HURRY UP THERE'S A CLIFFHANGER WHY ARE U SO SLOW I WANNA TURN THE PAGE
》 became friends almost immediately upon arrival in their dorm, based solely on the fact that they both had some article of clothing with a nerdy print on it with them (at their age probably superman (yes he was already a thing when they were 10))
》 will fall asleep over homework. whoever wakes up first usually gets the other to actually go to bed too, but sometimes they merely put a blanket on the other, who will then wake up drooling on their math equations
》 keep a lot of candy in their room, but always bicker about the other's snacks because meeks is a picky eater and eats the most specific, random candy ever and pitts will literally eat anything
》 share clothing very often. pitts used to be about the same height as meeks until his growth spurt hit him, and they never really bothered to separate their wardrobes- so when it's early in the morning and they overslept, they'd just grab a random article of clothing from the pile on their floor. used to be no problem, but now that pitts has grown so much, you can exactly see when the two of them overslept, because quite often, meeks will end up wearing oversized sweaters while pitts' sleeves are way too short

Thinking about how in sync Neil and Charlie are like Charlie’s “he’s really good!” and Neil’s “I was good” just hit different for me. I love Neil and Todd as boyfriends but the lack of recognition for the friendship Neil and Charlie had makes me sad. They were roommates for years, always turned to each other in the class scenes first, matches each others energy and always encouraged each other, they were both invested in each others interests. They are THE best friends. It’s another reason I love the lack of singing from Charlie at Neil’s funeral, because he probably knew Neil would hate that shit and that Neil should be there to make fun of it with him.
I can’t explain it right but just the fact that on Neil’s big night they thought the same thing and were both in awe of it. Bawling my eyes out. Charlie got expelled for defending Keating and Neil and he was the first one to make that stand. He loved them so completely.
(This hurts me more when I think of the fact that to me at least, Neil being Puck was a hint to his sexuality, and Charlie was the most audibly excited at the play. Regardless of what Charlie was, who Neil was never made him love his best friend any less).
