When I was writing the Fortnight music video, I wanted to show you the worlds I saw in my head that served as the backdrop for making this music. Pretty much everything in it is a metaphor or a reference to one corner of the album or another. For me, this video turned out to be the perfect visual representation of this record and the stories I tell in it. Post Malone blew me away on set as our tortured tragic hero and I’m so grateful to him for everything he put into this collaboration. I’m still laughing from getting to work with the coolest guys on earth, Ethan Hawke and Josh Charles (tortured poets, meet your colleagues from down the hall, the dead poets). I still can’t believe I get to work with the unfathomably brilliant Rodrigo Prieto on cinematography and my team of dream collaborators: Ethan Tobman (production design), Chancler Haynes (editor), Anthony Dimino (1st AD), Jil Hardin (producer) and Dom Thomas (executive producer). Parliament aced the VFX as always. Joseph Cassell, Lorrie Turk and Jemma Muradian made these tortured looks come to life. The entire crew made this a dream to shoot. UPDATED RANKING OF TAYLOR SWIFT’S SONGS IN HER NEWEST ALBUM, THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT:

(again, to anyone who isn’t a Swiftie, just ignore this post because you won’t understand a single thing I’m saying lmao)

1. Fortnight — 6.9/10, I liked this more than I expected lmao. It is, as expected, SO MUCH BETTER than the AI version. Deducting points because it’s not the greatest genre imo but it still managed to be a bop, so well done Taylor.

2. The Tortured Poets Department — 10/10. Love it Love it Love it. Genuinely one of my favourites on this album.

3. My Boy Only Breaks His Favourite Toys — 7/10. Also love it. It was less corny than I thought it would be lmaoo, but my predicted ranking was the same as this one.

4. Down Bad — 9/10. I didn’t enjoy this song as much as I thought it would (as a hardcore Rep stan I think you can imagine how upset I was 😭), but it’s still a great song in itself.

5. So Long, London — 8/10. If I told myself yesterday that I would be ranking SO LONG LONDON as an 8/10 I think I would’ve gone crazy. The lyrics 100% hit the spot but, again, the genre makes me hard to rank it as high as I would’ve liked.

6. But Daddy I Love Him — 7/10. Not as corny as a I thought. Great song. Apologies for underestimating it 🙏🏼

7. Fresh out the slammer — 7/10. Nice song, I can’t pick between ranking it as a 6.5 or a 7, but I’ll go with a 7 because I think it deserves that after still being a great song despite my indifference towards the genre.

8. Florida!!! — 8/10. FLORIDA!!! I’M SO SORRY FOR UNDERESTIMATING YOU, YOU’RE AN AMAZING SONG.

9. Guilty as Sin? — 8/10. Again, as a Rep stan, the title gave me an embarrassing amount of hope, so I feel crestfallen 😭 Still a good song though.

10. Who’s afraid of little old me? — 10/10. The title scared me at first ngl but it ended up being AN AMAZING SONG. I’m surprised to say it, but this song is also one of my favourites.

11. I Can Fix Him (No Really I can) — 9.5/10. Again, wasn’t as corny as I thought. Love the song.

12. loml — 10/10. I TOLD YOU GUYS IT WASN’T ALL GONNA STAND FOR “love of my life.” This song HURT.

13. I Can Do It With A Broken Heart — 10/10. Great song, wasn’t as corny as I thought.

14. The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived — 10/10. AMAZINGG

15. The Alchemy — 10/10. AMAZING song.

16. Clara Bow — 9.5. Wasn’t as addicting as I thought it would be, but it still deserves a 9.5. 🙏🏼

Anyway I literally forced myself to wake up just to listen to this album. I’m going back to bed. 😭

My predicted ratings of Taylor Swift’s songs in her upcoming album The Tortured Poets Department:

1. Fortnight — 5/10, I genuinely don’t think I’ll like it, maybe it’s bc the AI version on tiktok isn’t my style at ALL and kinda ruined it for me. Plus the title doesn’t stick out at all and I’m so sad that this song is track 1, esp considering her most recent album Midnights had an iconic opening track.

2. The Tortured Poets Department — 8/10, I always LOVE her title tracks and I’m so excited for this one.

3. My Boy Only Breaks His Favourite Toys — 7/10, the title doesn’t really stick out to me but I feel like it’s gonna end up being an amazingly catchy song. Negative points for the easy rhyme. (“boy” “toy”)

4. Down Bad — 10/10, I’M CLAIMING THIS SONG IDC IDC, I HAVE SUCH HIGH HOPES

5. So Long, London — 10/10, I’m actually terrified to listen to this song bc not only is it TRACK FIVE, but I know for a fact that I’ll sob. I’M SO EXCITED AND SCARED.

6. But Daddy I Love Him — 5/10, not too bad not too good, love the Little Mermaid reference but idk something tells me that I won’t vibe with this song

7. Fresh out the Slammer — 6.5/10, the title’s interesting and I have no idea what to expect

8. Florida!!! — 4/10, hate to say it but I feel like this might be my least favourite

11. I Can Fix Him (No Really I Can) — 9/10 for relatability reasons. Like damn Taylor thanks for calling me out. But also there’s a SLIGHT possibility that this song is about M*tty Healy and I am simply very concerned about that.

12. loml — 7.5/10, I just KNOW it isn’t just gonna stand for “love of my life.” Taylor’s too much of a genius to use that abbreviation for its common meaning.

13. I Can Do It With A Broken Heart — 7.5/10, -2.5 points for the corny title, but I do expect to cry when I hear this song, and well, who doesn’t love songs that make you want to rip your hair out?

14. The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived — 9/10, I saw someone on tiktok say there’s a correlation between this and the story of Rumpelstiltskin and it blew my mind. I have high hopes for this

15. The Alchemy — 9/10, manifesting that this sounds like The Archer and has parallels to Invisible string (“a single thread of gold tied me to you”) 🙏🏼🙏🏼

16. Clara Bow — 9/10, I just know this song is gonna be interesting and addicting as hell

One of my fav blogs does media analyses for a specific fandom, and they can find so many details I totally missed, and write some really in-depth criticism with great understanding of the text and subtext.

And then I found out they hate Snape bc "he's a loser incel who's mad he didn't get to fuck Lily"

How can a person be so literate for one thing and then be completely blind for the next?! Trying to convince them otherwise might just get me blocked for still liking HP or something :/

Ugh, I can’t tell you how much I understand the pain, anon. As someone who’s in like 6 other fandoms, whenever I make a friend or discover a blog who’s in a different fandom and wanna follow or interact with them, I find out they despise Snape and think he’s just some incel. This happened more times than I’d like to admit 💀

And you just made me remember one time I discovered a blog about another fandom a few years ago. The blog made great analyses about a character I loved, and that blog’s posts had a lot of critical thinking and detail, so I was legitimately about to follow them until a random thought came to mind: “wait, what if they’re a HP fan too?? I wonder what they think about Sev.” So I decided to search up “Snape” on their blog and, I kid you not, I found SO MANY reblogs that were anti-Snape and the posts the blog reblogged said stuff like “Snape deserved what he got in the prank” and “he was just obsessed with Lily” and all that jazz. I was so flabbergasted. 😭 (I actually ended up blocking them on Anonymous bc they sent me 2 hate asks. I realised it was that blog who sent the asks bc their blog vanished immediately after. I was like damn but I still liked them bc they gave me good arguments about the other fandom to use lmaooo)

Anyway, I agree with you, anon. How can a person make such in-depth posts and analyses about an overhated complicated character, but then go and brush off another overhated complicated character as simply “an incel who wanted to bang Lily?” It’s genuinely confusing, like, I can clearly see that you DO have the capacity for critical thinking, yet it somehow flies out the window when it comes to a character you hate??? Make it make sense.
