(Part 5, previous)
I end up in the cafeteria, staring at nothing. Mastication is the first step of eating. After getting food. After bringing it to your mouth. After the food has leapt into your hands, you can bring it up to your teeth full of cracks and holes, and you can fill them with pulverized chicken and rice and assorted steamed vegetables. And you swallow. And you’ll do this until you die, whether that’s in three, five weeks, or when you’re seventy-eight. Four days or so, if you don’t drink water. I wonder if Tyler has water, locked in the cage of my mind. I wonder if hallucinations need food, or if there’s some other sort of nourishment he needs. That I haven’t been managing to give him. I know he’d like to chew.
Maybe Tyler was onto something, walking around feeling like a bigger dick than God himself.
That night, I sleep like the dead, and I dream of it, too. The movie set of Paper Street yawns above us. I’ve got Tyler in my hands, his hair tight between my fingers as I fuck his throat. I’m curled over him. I’m giving something up. I’m more powerful than I’ve ever been. Tyler Durden has tears in his eyes and my cock in his mouth, and he’s not biting down. Not yet. There’s a heat to the world, and maybe it’s not ever. I feel drunk. He’s quiet.
We’re at fight club, a crowd of howling monkeys around us, and I won. Tyler’s on the ground, looking at me with pride over his shoulder. I’m pulling him apart and sinking inside. I’m fucking my best friend into the concrete. He’s not making a sound.
We’re in my cubicle. I have a large knife, and I’m gutting Tyler like a fish. And I’m burying my dick in him, and he smiles at me. His intestines writhe as I pull on them, hauling his body to me with each thrust. They want back in. I want back in. He’s warm to the core and cooling.
On top of the Parker-Morris building, I’m fucking a hole through Tyler’s shaved head. A cock is your gun, your gun is a cock, an explosion in one direction and I’ve blown mine though his skull. Pulling the trigger, over and over and over. His brain droops out of the hole. Twitching as cum and blood oozes out. Little bits of bone stick to his fried neutered testicle scalp. Rocky mountain oysters. I can see the head of my cock poking out when I fuck in. Out. In. His eyes are empty on me as I move my hands from his jaw to his temples and dig my fingers in. His brain is like plush velvet. It’s better than his throat. Better than his ass. Better than his guts.
Tyler could not cut a hole in himself better than the one I made for him.
I wake up with a rash on my dick from the pillow jammed under my crotch. They don’t bother with high thread counts, here. Might as well be steel wool.
I eat.
I take my pills.
I’m led to the visitation room.
Marla calls me, her voice floats to me through the aether to come out tinny on the telephone.
“Have you heard from Tyler recently?”
Out of the grave enough for speech and she already wants to butt back in.
I want to tell her, I don’t have any words for her. No messages. I’m sorry. My jaw could have rotted off, for all the use it is, and I stay silent.
“I found this new support group. You’d like it. Tyler could be your boyfriend.”
I’m the only one who’s left. Only Marla and I would know the truth if I smeared it like that.
I want to tell her that I hope she’s having a good time, in the real afterlife. That she’s not stuck some place like I was. I don’t want to ask about it. I don’t think we’ll be going to the same place. Marla might not be a good person, but I’m worse.
Regret and remorse don’t mean shit when you can barely even feel them. It’s cruel, how I’m keeping her ghost around. I was haunting her until death and I can’t even stop after.

Okay first order of business- Sini you’re a genius and I love reading your works, like I have a list of Tumblr blogs in my notes app that I check weekly (poor short-term memory so I always forget the names/authors of fics I like) and you were one of the first ones on my list.
Second order of business is the thought I had that I thought you might enjoy, it spawned into existence while I was reading the Morax Cuteness Aggression post and I want you to consider this:
Adeptus!Reader who’s a frequent subject (read “victim”) of his cuteness aggression or even just silly centuries-old-dragon affection. It makes it even funnier- in a cute way- that this could probably go on for several decades, given the average lifespan of an Adeptus; there’s no escaping being Zhongli’s favourite little beastie, you’re stuck with him (not like that’s a bad thing, though).
You’re meditating peacefully in Jueyun Karst, knelt in the grass as birds chirp in the trees, leaves rustling gently in the wind. It’s so calm, so serene, and you just feel so relaxed… and then all of a sudden the ground beneath you starts shaking- it’s an earthquake??? You’re too busy being shaken like a maraca to notice your God, several hundred yards away, watching you struggle to find your footing with a soft and smitten smile on his face.
Another day you decide to try something Madame Ping recommended to you, Tai Chi, and as you move gracefully, beginning to really get in the zone and get the hang of it, a stone pillar has just erupted from the ground inches in front of you; you back up to avoid it, only for another appear, then another and another. The next thing you know, you’re dodging stone pillars left and right- where the hell are they even coming from? When you complain of the strange occurrence later to Xiao, he chooses not to mention that Morax had been taking a walk in that particular area around the same time.
You’re taking a walk just outside the harbour- dealing with humans can be so tiring sometimes- and a patch of flowers catches your eye. You kneel down in front of them, gently running your hands across the soft petals and inhaling the sweet smell of wildflowers; you’re an Adeptus, after all, you’re connected to nature and the earth like nothing else. It puts a serene smile on your face and instantly brightens your mood, you pluck one of the flowers and put it behind your ear and- when did all this damn cor lapis get here?? You just blinked and suddenly there’s chunks of it poking out of the ground all around you. Who could have done that?
Maybe Adeptus!Reader has a tail of some kind, maybe part or fully dragon (capable of shapeshifting and just likes looking partially like a dragon? I don’t know). Reader gets a little nervous and antsy at a gathering, pulling their tail across their lap and wringing it gently in their hands as a self-soothing gesture, they gaze off distantly and somehow fail to register the sound of stone cracking. The culprit is Morax, gripping the stone table he sits at with such force that it crumbles beneath his hands because FUCK that’s so cute- do you even know what you do to him??
Just thoughts of silly silly Morax letting his heart get the better of him when his favourite Adeptus, his beloved reader, is just so darn cute.
Waaahhh thank you for reading and enjoying my stuff a lot!! ♡♡
My GOODNESS this is too cute!!! Smiling so wide reading this!! Morax being a big silly sweetie with the way he expresses his cuteness-aggression AH I'm in love with these scenarios!! The bit with the tail omg I can't!!
Eventually reader might connect the dots...but it could take a few thousand years, heh. Maybe they're savoring some lovely sweets they'd brought back from a trip to Fontaine, wiggling in glee at the flavours...and then a bunch of sparrows made of Geo materialise out of nowhere and take flight?? You stare at them in confusion, reminded of how Rex Lapis used to summon Geo animals too, and just then Zhongli of the Wangsheng Funeral Parlor passes by, externally as calm as a leaf on still water.

Blame It On The Moon
Jack has been distantly lately. A dangerous encounter in the woods shows you how much affection Jack and his wolf side really have for you.

Jack had been distant as of late. You had blamed it on the moon at first. Time had slowly creeped toward the dreaded full moon. The few days surrounding it always had him a bit cagey. You'd been traveling with Jack and Ted for so long identifying their moods had become second nature. Ted's humming and grunts got easier to interpret day by day. Even reading Jack had become easier, even though he hides his wolfish traits rather well. At this point you could figure out the current moon phase just by watching your werewolf companion for a while.
So while you had blamed his strange behavior on the moon at first something is gnawing at the back of your mind. The way Jack hastily excused himself from your presence whenever you joined him and Ted for coffee or how when you'd wake up in the middle of the night - startled by the sound of an animal stepping on a particularly loud twig - you'd find neither hide nor hair of the werewolf. It all started to feel more and more like Jack was actively avoiding you. The why eluded you though. You had become good friends with the werewolf since you had joined him and Ted. Or so you thought at least. Had you done something to upset him? You'd talk to him and ask but every time you tried he'd made a quick exit.
You slump down on a tree stump with a sigh. The rustling of foliage and a worried sounding grumbling alerts you to Ted's presence. You shake your head and wave him off.
"Don't worry about it, Ted. I'm just overreacting." Or so you hope.
The creature sits down next to you, raising an arm and offering a hug. You smile at him, grateful for his empathy and lean into the embrace. You take a deep breath and mumble a quiet thanks as he gives your body a soft squeeze. Even though Ted could look terrifying at first glance you know what a gentle being he truly is. Especially in times like this when emotions run high he’s like a calming balm for your soul.
A few moments pass before you lean back from the embrace. Ted's big red eyes look at you in his very own version of the puppy dog eyes. A small laugh escapes you and you nod.
"Yes, that helped. I feel a lot better already. Thank you, Ted."
Ted answers you with a pleased hum. His gaze drifts from your face to something behind you. You turn around to see what caught your friend's attention when you see Jack standing a few paces away, frozen in place. His mouth hangs open slightly as if he tried to say something but forgot what he wanted to say immediately after. He looks at you and for the first time since your very first meeting you can't pinpoint what emotion is going through his head.
The look on his face is something you hadn't seen before. He almost looks angry? Disappointed? You're not quite sure and yet whatever this emotion is it's making you even more worried given his latest tendency to flee the scene whenever you were present. You take a step closer, unsure whether your presence is wanted or not.
"Jack, are you alright? I haven't seen you around much lately. Did something happen?"
Better to be blunt than struggle with subtlety and unnecessary niceties if you want to get behind what is going on with your friend. With every step you take, Jack's posture seems to stiffen even more, shoulders tense and jaw locked. You stop a few paces away from Jack, tilting your head quizzically. The man in front of you just stares at you, seemingly not having heard a thing you said while at the same time seeming keenly aware of your movements.
"Jack?"
You take another tentative step and like a scared rabbit he suddenly bolts. At the spot in which mere seconds ago your friend and companion stood is not even a Jack-shaped dust cloud left. You see him vanish back into the woods as you let out a frustrated sigh. So much for talking things over.
You turn back to Ted who looks at you with his red glowing eyes and you suddenly feel pitied. Ted humms mournfully, his gaze drifting back to where Jack fled into the forest.
"I don't know what I did for him to run from me like I have the plague", you mumble under your breath as you kick a defenseless stone in front of your feet. You only get a thoughtful grunt from Ted this time.
"Or am I just overreacting? Is it just some new werewolf quirk he gets when the moon is getting fuller?"
Your thoughts tumble around like each one is a loose item in a desk drawer. Why would he react like this now? He'd been nervous or a bit jumpy in earlier moon cycles but never like this. Or at least not since you had joined the small group that was Ted and Jack.
Ted's thoughtful rumble doesn't give you any more insight on Jack's strange behavior. You sit back down next to him and bury your face in your hands, letting out another frustrated sigh.
"So you think it's just because there is a full moon tonight and he doesn't want to be close and potentially hurt me?"
You don't turn to Ted as you question his reasoning, instead you look up and watch as the sun is starting to slowly set over the horizon. This whole situation, the worrying and uncertainty, made your head spin. You're rubbing the bridge of your nose to stave off the beginnings of a headache.
Ted hums in affirmation and you choose to trust his judgment. He knew Jack longer than you did after all. And yet that answer did nothing to stop the nervous flutter in your stomach. Maybe you really were overthinking things. Jack was a kind and thoughtful man, it made sense for him to want to keep you safe, however strange it may seem. His protectiveness was one of the traits you admired in him. More than admired even.
It's been a few weeks since you realized that your feelings towards Jack were more than just those one would have for a platonic friend. He made you feel safe and cared for regardless of the circumstances. You were in the woods in the middle of nowhere and yet you had never felt safer. Ted had a big part in that too but with Jack things were different. While Ted had become a great friend you didn't wake up from dreams of you two kissing tenderly under a starlit sky. But with Jack? You'd lost count of how often you wake up from dreaming about your lips pressing against his, hands combing through his unruly hair.
All of this makes the distance he has inadvertently put between the two of you hurt even more. Did he know? Could werewolves sense things like that? Crushes? They say wolves can smell fear, was it the same for other emotions? Could he hear the way your heart beat faster whenever you got too close? Is that why Jack is staying away? Maybe he just wants to let you down easy but is too nice to tell you to your face that he is not interested in you. Not in that way. Just as a friend.
You shake your head as you let out another groan of frustration. No, you would not let yourself go down that train of thought. Your crush on Jack was bad enough but you would not put words in his mouth like that. You'd have to just ask him, talk to him about it. Somehow. When he doesn't just run away again.
You look back at Ted, his red eyes studying you carefully. "I'll talk to him about that after the full moon. I've been safe before without him avoiding me for days on end. There needs to be a better solution."
You stand up and walk over to the small tent you and Jack used for shelter when the three of you were traveling - though at this point it hadn't been used by Jack in a while. A part of you is grateful for that especially since you've developed more than platonic feelings for the werewolf. Sleeping in the same tent as the man you have a crush on was dangerous territory.
You enter the tent with one goal in mind: finding a distraction. Jack wouldn't be back before the morning at this rate and you'd rather not be alone with your thoughts at this time. You remember that there was a deck of cards around here somewhere. Roping Ted into playing a few rounds with you before it was time to retire for the night should keep your mind off of Jack for the time being.
Digging around your belongings you come across something you hadn't seen in a while. From between Jack's things you recognize a soft piece of fabric - a scarf you had lent Jack early on when you decided to travel with the strange duo. Another security measure, or so the werewolf had explained, something to remember you by - to remember your scent - should you ever come across the wolf. Next to it you find sturdy iron chains, a bit on the older side but still functional. They were the chains Jack used to keep himself locked up and tied down at a full moon.
Wait.
What were the chains doing here when it was already starting to get dark and Jack was who-knows-where alone in the woods? A shiver runs down your spine. Jack wouldn't be this careless, not if there wasn't something bigger at play.
You gather up your scarf and the iron chains, the card deck you came here for completely forgotten, and leave the tent. The chains rattle in your arms as you return to Ted's side. He gives you a questioning groan, head tilted to the side, as you stuff the heavy chains into your backpack and tie your scarf around your neck.
"Jack left these and it's already getting dark. I have no idea how he could forget them but I have to get them to him before we have a werewolf wandering the woods. What if there are people camping? What if some hiker decided to go out at night for whatever-the-fuck. What if-"
What if he hurts someone innocent? Jack would never be able to live with himself after that.
You close your bag with shaking hands, heart racing like you just ran a marathon. Putting on your backpack you take one last look at Ted.
"I have to find him. I'll be fine. Just stay here in case he comes back before I find him."
Ted just nods, knowing once you had made up your mind he couldn't do much to dissuade you. With a soft hum he asks you to be safe and you give him a smile that you hope comes across as confident before you make your way into the woods.
You're nervous, walking through the thick foliage, tall, sturdy trees obscuring most of the last rays of sunlight that fight their way over the horizon. You try to focus your senses on finding Jack, the sound of careful footsteps, the sight of a figure moving through the bushes or just the eerie feeling of someone being nearby, anything. But all you feel is your heart threatening to beat out of your chest, all you hear is your own quickened breath. What if you're too late?
In desperation you start calling his name, your voice getting more and more panicked each time. After what feels like hours of walking but could have only been a few minutes of almost screaming yourself hoarse you finally hear the answering call of your own name. You stop in your tracks, eyes frantically searching for the source of the voice, Jack's voice. At a distance you see a figure move towards you. You call out his name again and the figure moves faster. Finally you see him fully, Jack closing in on you, his face a mirror of your own panic.
"What are you doing here? The sun is almost down! You can't be here, it's too dangerous!"
You nod, completely agreeing, as you take off your backpack and open it, showing him the thick iron chains inside.
"I am aware of that, thank you. But I couldn't let you be out here alone without these."
You pull the chains out of the bag and hold them out towards him. His face lights up in recognition before his brows furrow. He looks guilty.
"I- I completely forgot. Dios mio, thank you. I just-"
He takes the chains and looks around as if he suddenly realized he was lost. His eyes find the thick trunk of a tree nearby and he walks towards it. Jack takes a few rounds around the tree, inspecting it and giving it a small nod when he deems it suitable. He turns back to you, still a guilty look on his face as he asks: "Would you-? Could you- uh. Help me with this?"
He must have done this so many times before and yet he stands before you like a lost child. Your heart squeezes uncomfortably in your chest as you nod and follow him to the tree. Carefully you wrap the iron chains around the tree and Jack, securing him to it like a hostage in one of those countless Robin Hood movies. You worry about hurting Jack but he guides you through the motions, telling you how tight the chains should be in order to hold him back.
Your hands feel like they are burning after you are done - from the cold or the strain to them you don't know. You take a step back and look at the man in front of you. A quiet part in the back of your mind suggests that now is the time to make Jack talk, now that he can't run away again, but you push that voice back. By the thickness of the tree crowns you can't say how much daylight you have left and the wolf would certainly not be able to answer your questions.
"You should leave."
You can tell he is trying to sound stern and yet his eyes betray him, pleading for you to heed his words. You take a moment to just look at him. You won't lie and say you aren't curious about the other him, the wolf. But that curiosity is overshadowed by a very different emotion.
You don't want him to be alone.
It's silly maybe. Staying here would be dangerous for you. No one can predict if Jack will still recognize you when he turns or if the chains, old as they are, would even hold tonight. But you have seen the aftermath enough to know that whatever happens on the full moon it drains Jack. Hurts him in ways that no blade nor bullet can. And you don't want him to go through that alone.
Your pondering is disturbed by groans of pain. Jack is writhing against the chains, body shaking violently. Your eyes widen as you look up and only see a bit of silvery light shining through the leaves.
The full moon had risen.
Jack's groans of pain turn into inhuman growling. You watch as his limbs shift, claws and fur growing. It's hard to avert your gaze from this gruesome sight, your eyes linger while your mind tells you to run. And yet you are frozen in place, by shock or by fear is unclear and irrelevant. Time slows down as you watch the figure in front of you strain against the chains, growling like a cornered animal. He doesn't even seem to notice you anymore.
"J-Jack?"
Immediately his eyes are on yours.
Oh.
You'd have thought his eyes would look different but they are still Jack's. Still the same beautiful brown-green. Time slows down as the two of you just stare into each other's eyes and you feel like you can't breathe.
Getting closer would be a horrible idea. Terrible. Absolutely stupid.
As you try and talk yourself out of doing something that could get you seriously hurt or worse killed the wolfman starts to sniff the air around himself. A soft whine takes you by surprise. His eyes had become impossibly large, pupils dilated to leave nothing but black. He keeps panting and sniffing and whining, looking at you with the one thing you would have expected from Jack but not the wolf: puppy dog eyes.
You blink as if it would change the scene in front of you. Maybe you hit your head on your way here or maybe you stumbled and this is a dream or hallucination.
The surrealism of the situation gives you the courage to step forward, closer to the werewolf tied to a tree. You are only a few paces away before Jack starts to struggle against the chains again, growling and snarling angrily. You flinch and step back again. As you leave his proximity the wolf starts to whine again, looking at you with big, round eyes, pleading. Your first thought is that he wants to be free from those chains. Who wouldn't be after all? Nobody wants to be held against their will.
You take another careful step forward, repeating this strange dance of two steps forward, one step back - all the time never breaking eye contact with the wolf. Each time you come closer Jack fights harder against his restraints. Each time you step back he starts whining and whimpering like a dog begging for treats.
You just hope he doesn't see you as the treat.
Repeating this song and dance multiple times you are now about an arm's length away from Jack. He is still straining and fighting against the chains but it doesn't scare you as much as it did but a few minutes ago. Slowly, carefully you raise your hand. Jack's eyes look away from yours for the first time - eager to watch your hand, head tilted towards it, eagerly taking in your scent. You swallow hard hoping against hope that if anyone saw you they would blame the heat in your cheeks on the cold. Your fingers softly brush against Jack's cheek and you feel his fur for the first time. You're in awe, your hand hovering next to his face. You'd never thought his fur would feel this soft.
A rumbling startles you out of your thoughts and it takes you a moment to figure out the source of the sound. You can feel Jack rubbing his face against your hand, softly growling, almost like a purr, as he eagerly chases your touch. You can't quite stop the nervous laugh that forces its way out of your lungs. You resume your petting and the content rumbling sound gets louder, echoing in the empty forest.
"Is that it? You want to be petted?"
You don't really expect an answer but you feel like you can't just stay quiet around Jack, even if he isn't the best conversationalist at the moment. His mouth is hanging open, panting loudly, allowing you a closer look at his sharp fangs. The werewolf gives another whine, not content with just rubbing his cheek against the palm of your hand anymore. He drags his tongue along the inside of your wrist leaving a damp stripe of saliva in its wake. You gasp, embarrassed by the unbidden thoughts of how that tongue would feel in other places.
Hesitantly you take a step back, needing the physical distance to compose yourself. You ignore the disgruntled growling of the werewolf and close your eyes, taking a deep breath. This was a bad idea. Jack isn't in his right mind and you shouldn't take advantage of that. Not to mention that the wolf in front of you may seem somewhat harmless now but that could change any second. You should leave and find Jack again in the morning to untie him. Or tell Ted where to find him.
A metallic groan disrupts your thoughts and when you open your eyes again you see Jack pulling at his chains. You take another startled step back as the werewolf breaks his restraints, metal bending and breaking under his inhuman strength.
In a flash he is on you, your body crashing into the ground. Your back hits the earth and you gasp, pain shooting up your spine. As you look up you see right into those stunning eyes that held you captivated only moments ago. Jack kneels over you, his whole body trapping you underneath him. He bends over, nuzzling into your neck. You hear nothing but his hot breath and your own heart pounding in your ears. You keep completely still, afraid that any small move could be the wrong one and thus your last. You were never afraid of Jack but the wolf had you terrified. You flinch involuntarily as you feel his wicked tongue against your neck, sharp canines dragging softly against your skin. Heat curls in your abdomen as you gasp out his name. The rumble in his chest vibrates through you as his body crowds yours. There is no space, no air left between the two of you as Jack rubs his face against your neck, claws against your sides and his hips sliding against your legs.
It feels like your mind is made out of static as you feel the drag of his sizable erection against your thighs. You were afraid the wolf was seeing you as a treat to devour - you didn't know how right and wrong you were before now.
"J-Jack! Oh God", you gasp as the werewolf keeps grinding down on you frantically. You wrap your arms around his broad shoulders, fingers digging into the dark fur, pulling him even closer. With a pleased rumble he paws at your clothes, eager to get them off, to expose more and more of your skin. His claws rip through your clothes, the fabric tearing apart like tissue paper. You shiver at the contrast between the heat radiating off of Jack and the cool night breeze, goosebumps prickling over your skin. Jack drags his tongue from your neck over your collarbone to the swell of your chest. Your nipples stiffen with Jack's proximity and the low temperature of everything but yourself and the werewolf currently bent over you.
He huffs against your bare skin, his tongue swirling around your peaked nipples. With a choked off moan you squirm beneath Jack. He holds you down with his sheer mass, his hips still grinding against you. You can feel the heat of his hard cock through the fabric of your pants.
"F-fuck! Jack please-"
You don't even know if he understands you, how much Jack there is left in this creature but you can't help yourself. Desperate for more, you tighten your grip on his fur and try to guide his head lower. The werewolf offers no resistance, only a questioning hum as he traces the path downward with his tongue. Once his face is right above your clothed pussy he inhales deeply, taking in the scent of your arousal that is evident to him even through your clothing. His whole body shudders and all air leaves his lungs with a dark growl.
You flinch at the sound, your sex-addled mind clearing as you are once again aware of who and especially what you are currently laying under. This was dangerous. What are you even doing? You can't just have sex with Jack while he is under the influence of the full moon. This was a glaring consent issue. What if he doesn't want you like that? What if the wolf would actually try to eat you? What if-
You are violently pulled out of your thoughts by your pants being ripped apart by two clawed hands and dragged off of your body. With a surprised yelp you try and scramble backwards but the wolf is faster. His claws dig into the soft flesh of your thighs much more gently than you could have anticipated. Once again you feel like you are pinned down like a butterfly in a display case.
Jack spreads your legs apart, his face so close to your core with only the thin fabric of your underwear covering you. You watch him and try your best to stay still. His tongue runs along the already soaked fabric of your panties. You gasp and your hips involuntarily cant upwards, desperately seeking more friction. Jack repeats the motion with a satisfied growl before you feel his fangs against your skin.
Your heart is pounding in your ears, both terrified and aroused by the sharp glide of his canines so close to your sensitive cunt. With one sharp tug on the flimsy fabric the wolf tears your underwear apart with his teeth. You can feel the cold air against your wet folds and instinctively try to cross your legs but you are stopped by Jack still hunched between your thighs.
Quickly the freezing forest breeze is replaced by the hot panting of the werewolf, his face hovering over your glistening cunt. Another satisfied rumble vibrates through his chest before his flexible tongue slides between your wet folds in long, firm strokes. Your whole body shudders as his tongue circles your sensitive clit, a choked off moan falling from your lips. You tighten your grip on his fur, desperately clinging to him for support.
Slowly, like rolling waves, you feel your orgasm approaching. At once it rushes over you, your whole body shaking with its intensity. Your breath shudders as the last waves of your orgasm ripple through your body and your arms fall weakly to your sides. For a moment you forget the surreal situation you are in and just enjoy the afterglow of such an intense climax.
You can feel Jack’s hot breath against your sensitive sex. He climbs over you once more, caging you in under his broad form, his throbbing cock lying heavy against your abdomen. Jack slowly drags his cock down between your legs, rubbing teasingly between your folds. You gasp at the feeling and look up. His dark eyes seem to devour you, like the feast he just made of your pussy wasn't enough to sate him.
Mind still buzzing with the afterglow of your orgasm you blearily watch Jack’s canine face. It takes you a moment to recognize the question in the wolf's eyes. You're stunned for a second with the realization that even when turned into this beast that he so fears, Jack would never force himself on you. Not trusting yourself to get the words out you nod instead. The wolf's pleased rumble fills your ears and you feel the blunt pressure of his cock against your entrance soon after.
Even with how wet you are, especially after your recent orgasm, you can feel the stretch of Jack's impressive girth entering you. He pushes inside you slowly, much slower than you'd expect from the werewolf. You gasp, his size more than you'd ever felt. Jack halts his movements and lets out a soft, almost worried sounding whine. You take deep breaths, squeezing your eyes closed and try to relax around his uncomfortable size.
“I’m alright. Just- just give me a moment,” you force the words out between your lips. Your face is twisted in pain, not too much to overwhelm you but enough to make your breath shudder. Suddenly you feel Jack's nose and cheek rub against yours, his apologetic whimpers filling your ears. He's trying to soothe you or maybe apologize - you're not sure. Your eyes blink open and with shaky hands you reach out to grasp his face gently.
It's difficult to read Jack's facial expressions like this, his wolfish features distorting the soft smiles or raised eyebrows you're so used to from Jack. The only thing unchanged by his transformation are his eyes, still so expressive even under the influence of the full moon. You take deep breaths, trying to calm your mind and relax. Jack rubs his cheek against yours, whimpering softly in your ear. “It’s ok. I know you don’t want to hurt me,” you try to soothe him, your fingers playing with his fur.
It takes you a few moments until you feel ready to continue. “You can move now. But slowly,” you tell him softly, your hands still buried in his fur, “Please.” He nods in understanding and the werewolf slowly starts moving his hips. You feel his massive cock drag against your slick walls, the pain his size and girth had caused you turning gradually into pleasure. Jack trembles over you, the need to just mindlessly plow into you slowly growing stronger than his restraint. As he bottoms out you shudder, your drawn out moan echoing through the forest. Jack stays unmoving inside you, his head buried in your neck, panting heavily into your ear. You can feel his cock pulse inside your pussy and you instinctively clench around him. With a deep growl his hips stutter and you gasp.
“Move oh god please move,” you beg. Jack doesn’t leave you waiting and at once he starts really fucking into you. His clawed hands hold your hips tightly and leave you unable to move as he buries his cock in you again and again. It’s maddening feeling him so deep inside of you, feeling him everywhere. The werewolf responds to every flutter of your cunt, to every sound spilling from your lips, growling and fucking you faster and harder. The last thought you have is that you won’t be able to walk in the morning and then he hits that spot inside of you that makes your mind go blank. Your eyes roll into the back of your head and you let out an ungodly moan. You can’t think, all you know is the feeling of his massive cock splitting you open and the inhuman wolfman using fucking you like a human-sized fleshlight. It’s absolute bliss and you let yourself fall into the pleasure he gives you. You’re babbling something; you can hear your voice but you don’t know what you’re saying but he seems to understand, huffing and puffing in response. He lifts your hips and the angle makes you cry out even louder. The slick sound of his cock plowing into you is obscene but you don’t care. You’re getting closer and closer to your second orgasm, your fingers digging almost painfully into his fur, urging him on until a particularly hard thrust makes you see stars and pushes you over the edge. It’s too much, the pleasure overwhelming you as everything goes dark and you lose consciousness.
The first thing you notice when you come to yourself is the hard ground under you and the heavy weight on top of you. You open your eyes and the sunlight spilling through the leaves makes you squint. How long were you out? If the sun was already out then-
The weight on top of you shifts and you hear Jack grumble. Not the wolf but Jack. A very human, very naked Jack lays on you, his head on your chest. You freeze when you feel him slowly rouse from his sleep. Panic rises in your chest. What would you tell him? Did he remember what happened last night? Your spiraling thoughts grind to a halt when Jack’s eyes, heavy with sleep, find yours. His brow furrows as he mumbles your name. Realization dawns on his face and you can’t do anything but watch, anything you could say to him stuck in your throat. But where you expect embarrassment or disgust you only find terror. “Oh no, what did I do?” he whispers to himself. “Jack, I-” He sits up and the missing weight on you feels wrong. His eyes scan your body, taking in your ripped clothing. “Did I hurt you? Ay Dios, what did I do?” “Jack,” you try to pull his attention towards you, voice raised, “You did nothing wrong. You didn’t hurt me.” His eyes find yours trying to catch you in a lie but he finds only the truth. His shoulders slump with a deep sigh.
You stay quiet before Jack breaks the silence. “Why did you stay with me? You could have died!” He is still frowning but you can hear the anger in his voice. “I wanted to help! I-,” you explain as you sit up and try to cover yourself with the bits and pieces of clothing you are left with, “The wolf, he wanted me to stay. He didn’t attack me.” Jack swallows around the lump in his throat, pointedly not looking at you when you cover up to give you some privacy. “It’s a beast. You should have run. You should have-” “He didn’t attack me, Jack. He likes me.” A faint blush creeps on his face. “Likes you? I don’t think that describes quite what happened here,” he mumbles sheepishly.
Jack carefully sneaks a peek at you, not so subtly checking for injuries again. “Are you sure you aren’t hurt?” He sounds so worried and it breaks your heart. “I’m alright. A bit sore maybe but no injuries.” Jack clears his throat awkwardly, “Sore? Oh dear. I am so sorry. I didn’t- I mean, I wasn’t-” Gently you put your hand on his shoulder. “It’s ok. You weren’t in control. I know you don’t like me like that,” you reassure him, the words leaving a bittersweet taste in your mouth. He looks at you like you’re speaking in tongues. “You don’t…mi vida, I thought I was pretty obvious,” he says, embarrassment clear in his voice. You blink at him in confusion. “What do you mean?” Jack swallows hard and turns towards you fully. “I like you. Very much. I mean, I am attracted to you,” he sighs, rubbing his face, “The closer the full moon gets the harder it is to hide my feelings. I was close to ripping Ted apart yesterday just because he gave you a hug. It’s maddening.”
Your heart races, heat spreading through your cheeks. “You- You mean that you-” “I’m in love with you. And I know this is the worst timing and I really didn’t want our first time to be like this,” he motions around him. Your heart feels heavy and light at the same time. “I love you too, Jack.” He smiles at you, a big toothy grin that makes you smile too. “I’m glad. I didn’t think you did. That’s why I tried to hide it.” You nod in understanding given that you did pretty much the same. You tell him as much as you lean in closer, resting your head on his shoulder.
You don’t know how long you stay like this, the sun rising further and the forest waking around you. It’s only when you gather your things and make your way back to camp, careful of any hikers catching you in the nude that you turn to Jack and ask: “How do we tell Ted?” Jack laughs, shaking his head. “I have a feeling he already knows, mi vida.”

(Not) Too Late - NaLu
Tumblr media
When Lucy yelped from the other side of the room, Natsu's world went fuzzy.
He couldn't even perceive the people he pushed past to run across the packed ballroom as quickly as possible. Everything flashed through his head at once - he wasn't sure what had happened, but visions of what had occurred the previous times he'd been too late plagued him.
In the time it took to shove past a group of people, Future Lucy had died again.
When he accidentally tripped over an extended chair leg and almost knocked someone over, his Lucy was once more laying limply in the corner of a stone room, blood pooling around her head.
Distantly, a glass crashed to the floor, as he shook an unresponsive Lucy while pleading for her to wake up.
This couldn't be happening again.
None of this was allowed to happen again.
So where in the hell was-
"Natsu!!"
Yanked from his too-real memories, the dragon slayer blinked his fuzzy vision away and focused on the overwhelming sight before him. Lucy.
It was Lucy, unharmed.
Lucy, completely fine.
Lucy, …concerned?
"Natsu, what the heck has gotten into you?" The blonde mage scolded, glancing behind him at the excessive disruption and upset he'd caused. But Natsu couldn't give a damn about them.
"You're okay," he croaked, taking a few deep, grounding breaths, the air smelling of alcohol, perfumes, and Lucy.
"Of course I'm okay, what even-" Her irritation dissolved entirely when she saw the foreign look of anxiety on his face. "Are… you okay?" The worry stitched in her brow distantly reminded him that she'd said she was certain she would have wrinkles on her forehead by the time she was twenty.
Natsu sighed in relief. "Yeah. I'm fine." His face lit up with the expression that came so easily to him, a broad and reassuring smile that most people hadn't been able to read through. Natsu had always sworn to wear his heart on his sleeve, but when it came to Lucy that idea felt so wrong. He needed to be the strong one, to comfort her when she cried, to encourage her wherever she went. His own negative emotions only got in the way - and besides, they felt terrible.
Maybe another time Lucy would have dismissed it, continued on with her night while worrying about her partner. But this situation was too strange, his outburst too profound to ignore. Lucy turned to go outside, gesturing for him to follow, and the action came naturally to him.
As he trailed behind her, however, he noticed how uneven her walk was. That was odd. Too odd. Before they'd even made it through the doors, Natsu stopped her with a hand on her shoulder. Lucy didn't turn around.
"What happened?" He asked, all hints of a smile gone.
"It's fine. I can barely feel it."
"Feel what?"
Lucy seemed exasperated at his demanding tone. "Natsu, really, I'm okay-"
"But what if you weren't?!" He snapped, desperation seeping into his voice. Lucy blinked up at him with owlish eyes, those beautiful brown eyes that made him feel so warm every time they landed on him.
It wasn't just her eyes on him now, though. A small crowd of people had taken notice of the situation, their prying eyes and (what they thought were subtle) whispers flooding through his senses. Natsu did not want an audience.
He scooped Lucy up into his arms before she could get away, marching them outside and around the corner, into the garden. Lucy seemed to be too shocked to insist on walking herself, until she noticed their seclusion.
With nothing more than a look, Natsu got the message to put her back down, albeit with great reluctance.
"Okay, what is going on with you? You've never spoken to me like that before Natsu. You can't push me away this time, you're my best friend and I'm worried about you." Her voice shook, and the telltale smell of salt hit his nose. No no no, please don't cry. He'd do anything to stop her from crying.
Natsu dropped his gaze, trying to burn a hole in the hedge bushes with nothing more than the intensity of his eyes. Unfortunately, even for dragons, that remained impossible. He'd still try though. Anything to avoid this situation.
So slowly yet all at once, Natsu felt Lucy's warmth envelop him. Lucy, at a loss for what to do when Natsu was being so nonverbal, wrapped her arms around him and buried her tears in his chest. If all else failed, she knew actions were one way to get through to him.
"Sorry, Lucy." Natsu finally spoke. Then it was his turn to be at a loss. What should he say? What could he do?
Thankfully, his brilliant partner had an idea. "I tripped on my heel and hurt my ankle," Lucy drew away from him and confessed, crystal droplets accumulating in her eyes. Always so emotional, he thought.
"Your turn," she urged quietly, looking up at him. "What's wrong?"
It all hit him at once. The ghostly memories of her death, her pain, her tears, all whirling around his mind in a terrifying tornado. Natsu shut his eyes, but he only saw the image of crimson blood stapled to the back of his eyelids.
Lucy's blood.
Natsu shook his head to chase away those images. That was all in the past, and he'd sworn to protect the future. But the past still haunted him, dragging him back, weighing him down. Igneel's disappearance, Lucy's tears, Igneel's death, Lucy's death-
"Natsu." Her voice snapped him back. It was soft, gentle, the same tone she used to comfort kids when they were on missions. In a way, he felt like one, reliving his past all while standing right here as an adult. He was grown up, damnit, he could move on.
The party was a faint buzz of white noise as he stared at the ground, lost for words. After the silence extended even further, he heard the soft noise of air shifting as Lucy sighed.
"Okay. I'm going back inside to work on the job. I… I'll shout if I need you, 'kay?" He could feel her eyes on him as she spoke, but he didn't move. He couldn't.
Once again, Lucy opened her mouth to say something, but it seemed she thought the better of it. Instead she turned around and made her way back to the crowded ballroom. There was nothing she could do if he refused to speak.
A few minutes later, after a deep breath, Natsu cleared his mind as best he could, finally heading back inside. He could only hope there would be a fight soon, because these emotions running rampant were really getting frustrating.

OT 1 & 2 headcanons? Doesn't have to be about the main parties, whatever goes.
ok ok here we go, gonna use yours as the OT2 HC ask bestie
gonna throw up here an OT2 spoilers warning cuz of endgame stuff
First some throné ones because i have throné on the brain.
first off i think after her story is over she never wears a necklace like basically ever again. she does love dressing up, feeling cute, but no matter how well a necklace would go with her outfit she won’t add one. it’s just part of her newfound freedom that she can choose never to have anything around her neck like that ever again. all other jewelry tho… she’s got a lot of options to pick from for earrings, bracelets, and rings etc (that she’s most certainly not paid for)
also, i feel like Hikari and Throné, after everything with vide coming to the conclusion that they are actually distantly related to each other, have some kind of exchange where it’s like. “ok wait so im your like great great how many greats aunt or something” uhhh like a couple times removed or whatever. and at first its like weird to think about but they both have such like. idk. throne found out that her family was actually huge and extensive, and all of them were killing each other. her biological father is a monster. she was born to be a monster herself. her relationship with the concept of “family” is extremely strange; the man she considered closest to her actual father was a horribly abusive person but despite all that she was the closest thing he had, and he was her half-brother. Hikari’s family has a curse upon it directly related to being descended from D’arquest, and it’s been nothing but pain for him as well, causing him to lose control of himself, constantly worried he’ll hurt the people he cares about. his brother was a monster in a whole different way, and his dad, while appointing him rightful successor, spent most of his life as a warmonger as well. His mother is dead. his brother and father are dead. he’s lost ritsu, who at one point was like a brother to him. his own relationship with the idea of his family is not… good, in any case. i think they come to find some sort of solace in each other in that, after realizing they’re actually related. they’ve already come to travel with each other and trust each other… i like to think they decide they should just hand wave all the technicalities of how distantly they’re related and how weird the family tree would look and just go with a catch all “we’re cousins” or something.
Castti, while getting her memories back about what happened immediately prior to the events of the game, still struggles with remembering most of her life. it’s not something she really fully recovers from. she never remembers the faces of her parents, or if she had any siblings, her childhood, things like that. sometimes when she gets a flash of something, a glimmer of a skill she had no idea she was well-practiced in, or a remembered fact she can’t recall where she read it, she still finds herself troubled. she basically has to re-invent herself. still, she gets by with a quiet determination to always do right, with the knowledge that she at the very least, knows who she is now, in the present.
ok sillay ones….
Post game partitio starts picking up the guitar. i like to think once he gets good enough he records a song with agnea for the gramophone :P. also, temenos used to play the piano, but he’s out of practice (that one cleric in flamechurch is much better and actually wants to play it much more). he could pick it up again tho with a little practice
oh also ochette is a chronic unpeeled fruit mucher. she’ll just straight up bite into an orange and be like. “i see why some people don’t like the crust but i don’t mind it.” castti and osvald tails gets trolled face

Become Like Stone 3
Whumptober Day 20: Found Family/Blanket
Characters: Legend, Four, everyone’s there but it’s Sky POV because he grabbed the reins at the start and refused to let go.
Trigger warnings: Aftermath of torture, look if you read the first one you probably know what to expect
Read on Ao3!
Late to the party? Read Part 1 and Part 2 first!
THIS IS A DOUBLE UPDATE! MAKE SURE YOU DIDN'T MISS PART 2!
-----
They were too late.
It’s the only thing in Sky’s mind, rattling around like a long-lasting echo, playing over and over again to the sound of Legend’s sobs.
They were too late.
Four is dead.
It doesn’t feel real.
Four doesn’t even look like himself. Bruises, cuts, and terrible burns warp his skin head to toe. Underfoot, sticky blood coats the stone in irregular, violent patterns, mirroring the violence painting Four’s skin. It clings to Legend’s hands and skin the way he clings to Four’s body, rocking back and forth and weeping inconsolably.
Four is pale, and still, and dead.
They were too late.
Legend cries out, high and frightened, and flinches away when Hyrule reaches out. He’s trying to - shield Four, Sky realises dimly, trying to curl over him to protect him.
“Shh,” Hyrule croons, “I’m not gonna hurt him. I’m not gonna take him from you. Can I see?”
Legend moans a denial.
“Please, Ledge, you’re bleeding. Let me see your hands.”
There’s nothing Sky can do here. He can’t save Four, beyond all mortal help. He can’t comfort Legend, shattered after watching his brother die a tortured death. He can’t even help Hyrule except by passing him potions and bandages, and that’s a task better left to Warriors.
The inactivity makes his skin crawl. He can’t just - stand and watch. Catching Warriors’ eye to let him know, he turns and walks out, trying not to feel like he’s abandoning them.
We need to clear this area, Sky tells himself. We haven’t found their packs yet, and we don’t know if there’s monsters around. Now would be a great time to ambush them, distracted and grieving as they are. Sky can preempt any such attacks. It’s good. It’s useful.
The next cell over has two bodies in it - both dead, when Sky checks. More victims, he thinks distantly, staring blankly at their corpses.
It takes a moment to realise why the thought doesn’t fit.
They’re both clean, for one thing - not dirty, not bloody, sporting no injuries but the wounds that must have killed them: the man a blow to the head, the woman a crushed windpipe. They’re also fully dressed, in neat, well-fitted, high-quality garments, where Four and Legend had been stripped to their unders.
They’re not victims. They’re the ones - the ones who -
Legend must have killed them, he thinks, and can’t summon more than a vague sense of good riddance.
There’s nothing in the cell of worth, so Sky turns away to check the ones across the hall - empty, and have been for some time. There’s really not much down here.
From above, the dungeon door groans as it opens, and Sky abruptly remembers the other teams searching the house for signs of Four and Legend, and runs to intercept.
He’s too slow. Twilight is already bodily carrying the sobbing Wind from the cell when he gets there. Sky grimaces in apology.
“Aught else down here?” Twilight asks, low voiced.
Sky shakes his head. “Empty cells. And -” he remembers, and his face goes blank. “I think. Their captors. In the second cell.”
Twilight startles, glancing past him with wide eyes and reaching for a weapon with the hand not holding Wind up. “No, it’s - they’re dead. Already. I think Legend killed them.”
The strange face Twilight pulls is probably a mirror of the one Sky made.
Wind looks up from where he’d been crying into Twilight’s tunic, eyes still wet. “I d-don’t - I don’t understa-and - why would they - why -” His voice breaks. Twilight hugs him a little closer as Wind buries his face back into his side, muffling his sobs.
Sky has no answers for him. The only one who might is Legend - and he’s in no condition for questions right now.
From the open cell, quiet voices stir the air, keeping the hush of the dungeons from becoming eerie. Sky can’t stop himself from glancing over.
Still clinging to Four’s body, Legend has at least let Hyrule get close enough to remove the manacles. He’s also begging him, in a broken whisper, not to touch Four, not to hurt him, to just leave him alone and hurt Legend instead, please don’t hurt him anymore, while Hyrule patiently soothes him and the raw skin of his wrists.
Sky must make some small noise, because Hyrule looks up. “Sky, good. I need you to come hold Legend. He’s not going to like this and I really need him to not interrupt.”
Wars grimaces. “Goddesses, Hyrule. Hasn’t he been through enough?”
“He’ll thank me for it later. Four’s still alive.”
“What?” Sky blurts, eyes wide.
Four is deathly pale under the blood and burns. Motionless, and loose with it, in a way even unconsciousness can’t mimic.
But Hyrule is sure. “He’s not dead, he’s in some kind of magical stasis - I’ve seen it before and I can break it, but we need to be ready to heal him after. Wars, get over here. Sky, hold Legend.”
Legend is too caught up in his own world to see him coming. When Sky grabs him he screams in a voice worn away to almost nothing and thrashes blindly, desperate to get back to Four. “Shhh,” Sky tries, “it’s okay, you’re okay, it’s just me, you’re okay -”
Legend can’t hear him, or if he can, he doesn’t care.
Hyrule’s ignoring the commotion. Having dragged Four away from Legend, he’s laid him out on the stone and now runs careful hands down his body - pausing over the pulse points of his wrists, the thinnest part of his ankles, the soft skin of his temples, before coming to hover over his still and silent heart.
Under his bracer, where no one can see it, the Triforce glows.
“Four? It’s time to come home.”
There’s a stretching, breathless moment where nothing happens. Then Four takes in a long, deep breath, and loses it all again on a whine as it catches on a broken rib. He coughs, and chokes on blood, and Hyrule’s green-limned hands slam into place on his chest. “Potion, now!” he barks, all business.
Wind is screaming out in the hall; Legend is wailing in Sky’s arms, a horrible, broken wisp of a noise that’s hope and despair and pleading all wound together. Sky himself is riding a wave of disbelief. Four’s alive. Hyrule had dragged him back from the brink, where magic had frozen him in a facsimile of death. Now Four is dying again - drowning in his own blood.
Potion in hand, Wars tries to sit Four up. Hyrule stops him. “Nope. Put it straight on the burns.”
Wars shakes himself - really he knows better, there’s no way Four can drink a potion in his condition - and starts pouring it over his skin where the worst of the burns lie stark and oozing. As the magic goes to work, glittering silver under a layer of dark pink, Warriors gets more bottles out of his bag, including one that’s only half-full. Back to back, most people can tolerate two potions at a time, but Four is much smaller than the average person. Warriors dunks a couple fingers in the half-full red potion, and starts smearing it on the cuts on Four’s face. Those are hard to look at - clean, straight, and deliberate. Some look so deep they might go all the way through to Four’s mouth.
Hyrule is fast reaching his limit. He has to pause, gasping and shaking sweat-soaked hair from his eyes, and gulps the green potion Wars hands him. Then he closes his eyes, swallowing and panting against nausea.
Four whines again, protesting the pain he’s still in.
“We’ve got you, Four,” Hyrule breathes, and dives back in.
Four’s injuries are too extensive to heal in a single sitting. Bruises still paint his skin blue and purple and livid red, and the deepest cuts on his legs and back refuse to close. But his breathing is clear now. Not wet and choking. Sky can see the steady rise and fall of his chest from where he’s still holding Legend, who’s - not fighting him anymore, instead just leaning quietly back against his chest. Sky doesn’t know when that happened. Doesn’t even know when his hand had started combing through Legend’s hair. As they sat, and watched Hyrule and Warriors put their brother back together.
Hyrule finally sits back, completely spent. “Do we have… a blanket or something? To wrap him in?”
There’s a rustle of movement as several people start digging through their packs. Sky hadn’t realised - everyone’s gathered around the doorway. Unable to help, but unable to look away. Having one small thing they could do -
Yeah. He gets that.
Four doesn’t stir as Warriors lifts him, Wild helping wrap potion-slick skin in the fabric he pulled from his Slate. It’s unwieldy, but they manage. With Four bundled up, comfortably positioned in Warriors’ arms and head pillowed on his scarf, he almost looks like he’s just sleeping.
Sky’s heart wrenches and tries to fall through the floor.
He’s not dead, he tells himself, Hyrule healed him - he’s okay. He’s going to be okay.
Then he realises - Four’s eyes are open.
He’s not the only one. Wind yells with delight and charges forward. “Four! Ohmygosh, I was so worried!” He grabs Four’s hand, laying on top of the blankets, and beams at him, full force. “I’m really glad you’re okay!”
Four stares at him for a long moment, blank.
Wind’s face starts to fall.
Then, slowly, Four smiles, and his fingers weakly curl.
Twilight takes the opportunity to grab Wind by the shoulders and spin him around. “C’mon, Wind. Let’s get out of here. All of us.”
“I hear that,” says Warriors, following at a careful pace.
Legend jolts, tension running through him, and scrabbles to stand. Sky helps him up, murmuring “Shh, it’s okay, we’re following him, he’s not leaving you. Easy, now.”
Legend looks at him, and for the first time, recognition lights his face.
“Sky?” he rasps.
“Yeah, Ledge. It’s me. It’s us. You’re safe now.”
Legend sways on his feet. He looks so young like this, wide-eyed and pale with tacky blood all over his chest and arms and legs. “Sky?” he says again. “Four is… Four’s okay? I didn’t dream that?”
Sky’s heart breaks just a little bit more. “Four is going to be fine, and so are you,” he tells him, firm as he can make it.
Legend takes a staggering step and nearly falls. Sky catches him. “Four’s okay?” he says again.
“Four’s okay. Here, Twi, gimme a hand, I don’t think he can walk.”
“M fine,” Legend says, still staring blankly down the hall where Warriors is taking the steps as smoothly as he can so as not to jostle Four. He doesn’t notice when Twilight crouches in front of him, offering his back. He does notice Sky steering him to wind his arms around Twilight’s neck. “Wha - hey!” He flails a bit, but he’s got no strength; his limbs are as weak and shaky as his voice. “‘M fine!”
“Ya sure are,” Twilight agrees cheerfully, and carries him off to mumbled protests.
Sky follows them out, but not without taking a last, lingering glance. He hopes, faintly, that one of the upstairs teams had found their brothers’ bags. At this point, all he wants is to get out of here, and never come back.

//EP. 3; The brothers are acting weirdly, how strange.
TW// Death threats, Cursing/bad words :(,
MC POV
It’s been a fairly strange morning, if I do say so myself. Firstly, the brothers were annoyed and irritated but I simply brushed it off as them waking up on the wrong side of the bed as this is nothing new. Secondly, Felix has been quiet ever since our encounter with the demons from yesterday. He’s usually always so talkative so maybe he’s also not feeling well.
MC- “Good morning everyone.”
The only response, or vocal response, was from Felix. He gave a barely audible hum as acknowledgement to my greeting, everyone else stayed silent at the dining table as I put down everyone’s respective plates of breakfast.
Everyone- “Thanks for the food.”
The brothers are acting weirdly, how strange.
{ᴛɪᴍᴇ sᴋɪᴘ; 10:57ᴀᴍ, ʀᴀᴅ ᴛʜɪʀᴅ ᴘᴇʀɪᴏᴅ}
{SFX; Clack.. clack.. clack..}
???- “distantly it’s all.. plan.. this’ll be.. sy..!”
MC- ‘Whoever could that be? Well whoever it is, they won’t be for long since it sounds like they’re up to no good.’
I sped up my pace, hoping to catch the demon quickly and report this to Diavolo.
{SFX; SLAM!}
At the point I was sprinting down the halls, this definitely wasn’t good.
???- “Just what the hell do you think you’re planning, Huh?! You better fucking tell me of else I’ll rip off your stupid empty head and feed your worthless body to-“
Before things could escalate any farther, I turned the corner into the hallway with the two and saw that it was Felix and Satan. Felix had an expression of the upmost fear and hurt you could ever see in a person. Satan, on the other hand, was bursting with rage. He looked so angry that he was about to explode like a volcano.
Satans grip on Felix’s biceps was deathly, his knuckles were white and was cutting of the circulation quickly, at this rate he might break Felix’s arms like toothpicks. He squeezed him harder to which Felix yelped loudly, he was borderline about to scream his lungs out from the pain.
MC- “SATAN! What the hell are you doing?! Let go of him immediately!!”
Satan looked at me in shock and let go of Felix instantly, clearly stunned at being caught looking like the villain in this situation. Felix took this chance to run over to me and crash into my arms. He was trembling, holding in his sobs, he explained to me what had happened.
Felix- “I-I was just walking back to m-my class after u-using the bathroom and g-got attacked by S-Satan out of n-no where!”
Satan grew angry again at his accusation, impossibly even more so, and screamed,
Satan- “FUCK YOU MEAN I ATTACKED YOU OUT OF NOWHERE?! YOU KNOW DAMN WELL AS I DO WHY I DID WHAT I DID!!”
MC- ‘At this rate, the other demons would be coming out to see what the commotions all about..’
Placing one hand on the back of Felix’s head and the other on the small of his lower back, I looked up and glowered at Satan. In return, Satan flinched, having never seen such a look ever cross my face before, too used to seeing a smile or calm look come to my face.
MC- “Satan, I believe I’ll have to be telling Lucifer about your behavior after school unless you can somehow make it up to Felix about this. You disappoint me. I thought you knew better than to attack a new arrival who is still getting used to being here.”
Satan stared at me in shock. Why? Why was I, the one who’s been with him and his brothers for 2 years, be trusting someone who’s only been here for a week!? How could I be taking this.. things side! When I didn’t even know the full story?! But I suppose I can’t take the attackers side and blame the victim during the act of violence displayed before me when I arrived, now can I?
Before he said anything, he shut his mouth and growled, storming away to go take out his anger on a helpless tree or read a book to calm down. Growing ever more angered, irritated, and aggravated after seeing the mocking and cocky smirk he got from a certain someone but going unnoticed by someone else, practically screaming, ‘I win.’ Right in his face.
MC- “Felix, let’s get you to the infirmary as you’ve most likely gotten bruises from that. His grip looked deathly tight on your arms.”
Felix nodded, not saying a word as he was too shaken up by the encounter with the Avatar of Wrath. The experience is definitely not amazing as he could break your neck with just a flick of his wrist.
{ᴛɪᴍᴇ sᴋɪᴘ; ʟᴏᴄᴀᴛɪᴏɴ: ɪɴғɪʀᴍᴀʀʏ, ᴛɪᴍᴇ; 11:36}
When we got to the infirmary, I sat Felix down on one of the hospital beds and went to go look for the nurse but she wasn’t here.
MC- ‘Why are the nurses never here when needed? Maybe she just left to the bathroom or something then.’
I walked back over to Felix to check up on him. He was looking at the floor, feeling a little disappointed in himself about having to depend on me so much but it’s only been a week since he’s been here so I do not hold it against him for clinging to me on a daily basis. The shock of being in a new area on such short notice will definitely have effects on your current self.
MC- “Felix, are your arms okay? They’re not sore or anything, are they?”
He jolted at the sudden ask and looked up at me with slight puffy eyes.
Felix- “No.. I.. I don’t know, maybe? I mean, I probably can’t use them for a bit? Y’know because he grabbed me pretty tightly and all…”
MC- “Yeah I understand that part. I’ll be reporting this to Diavolo and Lucifer. Just stay here and rest until the nurse gets back.”
Felix nodded and laid down on the bed, it’s been a really weird day.
MC- “I’ll be back to check on you after school, alright? Can you wait until then or do I need to check up on you regularly during the breaks between each period?”
Felix flushed at the second option.
Felix- ‘As much as it would be nice..’
“I don’t want to take up your time and make it feel like you’re obligated to watch and take care of me.”
MC- “So you would rather have me come and get you after school?”
He nodded and smiled, albeit weakly..
Felix- “Yeah, I would feel like a burden if you came in often just for me..”
I stared at him before sighing and nodding at his words.
MC- “Alright then, but if you have any questions or problems then just tell the nurse to come get me.”
He smiled and nodded with much more enthusiasm, waving at me as I left the infirmary.
{ʟᴏᴄᴀᴛɪᴏɴ: ʀᴀᴅ; ʟᴇғᴛ sᴄʜᴏᴏʟ ᴡɪɴɢ, ᴏᴜᴛsɪᴅᴇ ᴏғ ɪɴғɪʀᴍᴀʀʏ. ᴛɪᴍᴇ; 11:57}
MC- “It’s almost time for lunch, I should report to Diavolo and Lucifer then-.. I sound too much like Lucifer, I need to loosen up again and stop being around him so much. . . And I need to talk to Satan about his outburst.”
{ᴛɪᴍᴇ sᴋɪᴘ; ʟᴏᴄᴀᴛɪᴏɴ; ᴄᴀғᴇᴛᴇʀɪᴀ, ᴛɪᴍᴇ; 12:04}
As I entered the cafeteria, I made a beeline for the table that they sit at, needing to talk with Satan and ask him why he did what he did. I’m not choosing sides, everyone has a reason for why they did what they did. Even if it’s one of the dumbest reasons you’ll ever hear…
Beel- “Oh- Emshee! Whush up?”
He greeted me as I approached the table of 6, their heads turning in my direction. Satan’s face soured, resentment clawing it’s way back into his body but it wasn’t resentment meant for me.
MC- “Hello Beel, please don’t talk with your mouth full, you could choke.”
Beel nodded and swallowed his food before speaking to me again.
Beel- “So what’s up? Did you need something?”
MC- “Yes actually, I need to speak to Satan.”
Satan sighed with slight annoyance before standing, patting down any wrinkles that formed in his uniform then walking away with me to converse.
{ʟᴏᴄᴀᴛɪᴏɴ; ʜᴀʟʟᴡᴀʏ ᴛɪᴍᴇ; 12:37}
Satan- “If you’re still mad at me about what happened earlier then you might as well just-!”
I stopped him in the middle of his sentence by caressing his face gently. He blinked in surprise before leaning into my touch, it always helped calm him down.
MC- “I’m not mad about that anymore, I just want to know why..”
Satan scowled at this, wasn’t it obvious?!
Satan- “I did it because he’s planning something! That little good for nothing crybaby bitch is planning something, and it has something to do with you! Okay?!”
I stared at Satan in surprise, how could Felix do something like this? That shy pink haired boy that wouldn’t harm a fly, is planning something? And it has to do with me?
MC- “Well that’s a little far fetched since Felix wouldn’t harm a fly! But if what you say is true then I guess I’ll have to ask him myself.”
Satan- “No! Why would you ask him?! He’s obviously going to deny it!”
MC- “Then what do you suggest we do?”
Satan- “We wait it out I guess..”
MC- “Hm.. I guess we could, it’s for the best I guess.”
Satan hummed in content before separating from my hand and taking it into his, dragging me back to the table with the other 5.
It’s been such an unusual day today.

some things you just can’t speak about
Read on AO3 or below the cut.
Ginny in the aftermath of the War.
TW: mentions of death & implied torture
Note: This is my first (finished) fic! It was written over the course of one year and sat in my drafts for ages before I finally got the sudden urge to just post it and be done with it. Hope you enjoy!
Ginny sits in the crowded Great Hall and feels utterly alone.
There’s a dull hum that hangs in the air, a combination of melancholic murmurs and quiet, tear-streaked condolences. Ginny’s numb, sitting on a bench with a half-empty tea mug going cold in her hands. Her clothes are covered in blood, ash and Merlin knows what else and she thinks her arm might be bleeding. But none of that matters, because she’s still sitting there.
Her mind is struggling to make sense of her surroundings. Of the pale hand peeping from beneath a sheet nearby, the red splashes that dot the dated stones, and the muted cries echoing in the vast empty spaces left by those who have moved beyond this world. Everything feels hollow and out of place.
There are some things in life that can’t be comprehended before they have happened. And even when they do, they are senseless and wrong.
Death is one of those things.
Someone speaks up near Ginny in a hushed tone. She grips the cold mug in her hand and keeps staring at the pale brown hand that can’t touch anything anymore. It’s stained pink by dried blood.
Ginny wonders who it is – if she’s passed them by in the hallways, what kind of a life they lived. The hand looks too delicate, too young to be so still. They were once someone’s child, someone’s everything. Now there’s just cold flesh and a still heart.
A gentle pressure on her shoulder breaks Ginny’s thoughts right as someone pulls the sheet down to cover the lifeless arm. Her eyes stray towards the grieving face of her mother, who clutches her shoulder tightly, as if to make sure she’s still there, breathing.
“Let’s go get some sleep, Ginny, dear.”
Ginny blinks up at her.
Her name sounds strange, like a foreign word spoken for the first time. She feels like an outsider in her own body.
“I’m not tired.” Even though she is. She’s so tired she doesn’t know how she managed to say those three words. But the thought of closing her eyes makes her feel sick. She doesn’t want to face the imagery her cruel mind will create from heartache and fear. Being awake in this reality is already a nightmare.
Her mother’s lips purse and tears start glistening in her red-rimmed eyes. “We’re all going to go together—“
“I’d like to stay for a bit,” Ginny says because she doesn’t know if she’d even be able to move. She doesn’t want anyone to know how broken she feels, doesn’t want them to see the constellations of scars stitched on her skin. Doesn’t have the strength for the questions and tears they’ll inflict. There's already enough pain without hers added to it.
“No, we have to—“
This time it’s not her that interrupts the sharpening tone. “I’ll stay with her.”
Ginny doesn’t have the energy to look at him, which is a small mercy since she thinks she might truly break if she did.
He sounds as exhausted as she feels. Ginny wonders when was the last time he felt safe enough to sleep through the night. It’s been ten months since she did.
Distantly she can hear her mother attending to him, hugging him tight in sobs of relief. She feels so far away.
“-and you’ll come with us, of course! Minerva has arranged a chamber for the family,” Molly goes on. Ginny can feel the emotion radiating from him at the inclusion, and she wonders if he’ll ever feel like he’s a member of the Weasley clan. He’s been her parents' seventh son since the moment he stepped foot in the Burrow that very first time. He’s been her…something for a long time now.
“Thank you, Mrs. Weasley, really, but I’ll stay with Ginny for a while.” His voice is firmer, more insistent this time and she thinks he might fight her mother for it. But there’s no need because he’s Harry. She envies him for that sometimes.
Molly is quiet for a breath, and there’s a low murmur that might’ve been Ron. He’d understand, Ginny thinks. Out of everyone in her family, Ron might get it – her pure exhaustion and the importance of this moment between her and him.
“Alright, then,” her mother says, and that’s that. Her brothers file out, Percy walking an ash-drawn and glass-eyed George towards the doors of the Great Hall. He’s clutching a watch in his hands, knuckles white and face empty, like he’s withdrawn from this world that couldn’t possibly keep on going without his other half.
Bill’s hand squeezes Ginny’s arm as he and Fleur pass her, their hands entangled tightly together. Her father leads her mother out after them, calming down her protests with whispered words and a gentle arm around her.
Ginny watches them go, wondering if they’ll ever be the same again. She knows the answer, but it hurts to even think of it. They’re all broken, and they’ll all heal differently. But they will never be the same as before, nothing will. And that’s how it’s supposed to be.
Through her peripheral vision, she sees Ron pat Harry’s shoulder and throw a concerned look toward her as he and Hermione follow the family out, fingers interlocked in quiet comfort.
Then it’s just them in a hall full of people mourning. Ginny feels his gaze on her. It’s raw, the way he looks at her like there’s nothing he expects from her but herself. She wants to look at him more than anything in the world.
He walks forward, evading the white sheets that cover patches of the floor. She keeps looking at nothing. He sits down next to her, an arm’s width away but closer than ever.
Harry moves his hand and envelopes her free one with it, lodging their fingers together. Ginny stops breathing because his skin feels warm and real, and maybe this isn’t just a fever dream after all. Her heart cracks, the pieces correcting themselves to fit together again, like breaking a bone that’s healed incorrectly. She releases a shaky breath and clenches her hand, getting a press of his thumb against her skin in return.
They sit like that, side to side with their hands interlocked. Ginny doesn’t know if it’s minutes or hours or days that go by in the comfort of his presence, the utter lack of expectations that hangs between them. He doesn’t try to talk, neither does she, and perhaps he’s just as exhausted as she is. But they’re just there, quietly existing in each other’s space. They don’t need words in this moment. The silence is enough.
Ginny thinks of the things she wants to say, can’t say, and needs to say. I’m not okay. I’m broken and I don’t know how to stitch myself back together. I love you. She squeezes her eyes shut.
They have days, months, years to talk.
Or maybe they never will. Maybe there will never be a time for them. She doesn’t know, but she hopes they’ll get there. Someday, somehow, when everything doesn’t hurt as much as it does in this moment.
For now, Harry’s thumb smooths over the jagged scar on the back of her hand that wasn’t there all those months ago. Ginny leans against his shoulder and listens to the beat of his heart.
Harry's alive, and Tom is not.
And she’s breathing, too, even if it takes everything to do so.
There are just some things she can’t say yet, if ever. War rattles people, and even if she’ll never be fine, she will still live for the ones who can’t, no matter what it takes.
I’m glad you’re here, she thinks because his presence speaks multitudes.

Chapter One
19 years later
"What a crappy day.."
Everything has all started off horribly for me. A major cafeteria food accident brought me to become late in my first hour of class. The teacher pursed his lips in displeasure as I walked in the classroom and accidentally disrupted the lesson. Without giving a perfect explanation of my tardiness, the teacher took the decision to place me in detention for two weeks. Two hours of detention felt like an extreme torture. I couldn't believe myself dealing with that for two weeks! As the school rang to signify detention ended, I shot up from my seat and ran toward the door.
Pushing the doors open, melancholy descended over me with the heavy rain that greeted me outside. A clap of thunder distantly growled a deep rumbling warning. The sound almost caused me to take a step back, but displayed utmost bravery. I stepped out of the building entrance doors, utilizing my own backpack as an umbrella. There was no use calling my parents for a car ride because they confiscated my phone due to excessive home phone calls from the principal himself.
Unusual activity was set up ahead of me. Yellow crime scene tape blocked the short path where it leads me home. Police officers stood guard near the tape, halting the onlooking spectators from coming any further. It leads me to turn around and choose to walk the alternative longer route. That would make me even more late! I thought things could get any worse until something crossed my path.
A mystifying creature jumped out of the bush ahead, large enough to startle me. I couldn't figure out what kind of creature, either rare or normal, it was. Noticing my presence, it began to flee with immense speed. Unable to control my own curiosity, I made a major decision to follow the mystifying creature to catch it. It fascinated me how agile it tended to be. It successfully ran toward the large area of the darkest woodlands. I couldn't get to see where it ran off to because of how land remains pitch black. Stopping myself to go even further, It took me a chance to catch my breath before continuing to set forward.
That strange yet unusual occurrence creeps up on me. Air rushed out of my lungs as my surroundings transformed before me. That ought to be the weirdest feeling I ever felt in my life. There was something about this place that made me feel uneasy. Readying myself to depart out of here, my eyes widened over the nothingness behind me. Thinking my own eyes were deceiving me, I blinked many times before starting to believe the nightmarish environment was real. Letting that creature lured me in this endless deep forest set an immediate deep regret on my part. It was nothing but the most foolish decision I ever made in my life.
Cautiously looking around, I went past the thick growth of trees, the forest was full of them, everywhere I looked there was always a tree in sight, not a rock nor a bush. The temperature begins to slowly and dramatically drop. It feels like eyes watching me and my every move. Anything can roam in these parts, even that creature.
My peripheral vision caught the blurred mass of darkness, punctuated only by a flash of silver and black. My first instinct was to hide and crouch behind the nearest thick tree. Keeping myself quiet to not get myself caught, my hand gradually crept up to cup my mouth. The visible shadow-like tendrils slinked towards the creature and clung to it like a second skin. The size and shape of the mass grew into a massive beast. I sucked in a breath, alerting this monster of my presence. Its striking eyes pierced through me like it already knew me. My heart struck my chest with a rapid force. Emotions of panic and fear had left me running away from the mysterious creature. Unfortunately, it already has me in its sights in order to track me.
The chase begins between me and this monstrous and sinister creature who wants something from me. This forest maze can be difficult and complex to get out of. I batted the branches in my face out of the way. Tension begins to build up in the atmosphere. It led me straight to an open area where heavy fog formed to fill the surrounding air. As a quell of regret sat heavily on my stomach, I waited breathlessly in the stillness. The silence lasted for what seemed an eternity until, at last, it appeared.
From the shadows of the cloud, an enormous beast sprang out upon me. It was a hound, but not such a hound as I had ever seen. Its eyes glowed with a smoldering glare. Its rumbling pants and hideous growl. I gaze upon the grotesque and feral beast, fear clutching at my heart. My instincts were telling me to run, but my feet remained rooted to the ground. The ravaged dog creature bared its teeth in a beastly snarl. Red-tinged froth dribbled from its mouth. A sound broke the intense silence between us, causing my heels to accidentally crunched over dead leaves nearby. It decided to take the perfect time to lunge violently at me.
The sudden attack has left me badly wounded on my right arm. I tried to stop the flow of gushing blood from the wound, but it hasn't slowed down in the slightest. It clearly punctured directly near the artery. My eyes frantically returned to the area where the creature stood who mysteriously vanished. Did the creature retreat somewhere to hide back in the shadows? There was no time for me to stand here and ask ridiculous questions. I bolted as fast as possible through the returning maze. Rapid blood loss has left me feeling lightheaded and breathing ragged.
I tripped over something, caught myself from falling, and continued running. My heart was hammering against my ribcage as it pumped adrenaline through my veins. The path led me to another open area of the deep forest. Dark shadows prowled through the night, surrounding me. There was nowhere to be safe from them. Whoever they are!
"Help me!" I cried out in a desperate need for help, no one seemed to either hear or answer my calls. Silence, unfortunately, answers back to me like an old friend.
Maniacal, bone-chilling laughter echoes throughout the area. An icy feeling starts to creep into my heart. I felt a hint of movement to my left, the intensity of a pair of glowing white eyes observing me. The hypnotizing stare has left me paralyzed and thunderstruck. I expected the creature to devour and accept my own death at the moment. Nothing ghastly occurred to me until icy fingers grabbed my arm as I inch through the darkness. A scream erupted in my throat before I was being dragged down by the sinister presence.
Tumblr media
The alarm clock woke me up in an alarming but life-saving manner. I shot out of bed - my skin was glazed with a thin layer of sweat and my heart raced at what felt like a million miles per second. My eyes darted around the room as the lingering images of my nightmare dissipated. A quick glimpse of my own bedroom made me feel at ease. My breathing was beginning to normalize as my heart rate slowly evened out. A series of calculations run through my head. Everything about the dream felt so real to me. It made me silently pray it would end!
A repetitive annoyance pushes me back to reality. The alarm clock lies on the bedside table as it continuously buzzes until I hit the button. A moment of silence calmed me for the moment until my eyes went wide over the time displayed on the silent alarm clock. I am clearly an hour late from attending the first day of college. A few minutes of a quick hygiene and clothing change has me stepping out of the bedroom and into the hallway in an unrelenting crabby mood.
I silently bound down the stairs to be usually greeted by my parents eating breakfast in the dining room area. This time, it was pretty much different! Within an ears reach of a distance, their voices were heard clearly for me to pry. I couldn't help myself but to overhear most of their conversation without being noticed.
"It feels this is the perfect time to inform her about everything before her nineteenth birthday, sweetheart.."
"I agree with you! We don't want anything happening with her.."
Anything to do with me? What do they mean by that? It does sound seriously concerning for the moment between the three of us to confront the issue. It has been quite a long time since they started the routine with me again. Instead, I remain focused on hurrying myself for school. They turn toward my direction after hearing me approaching them.
"Good morning, sweetheart!" was what my parents usually say whenever I made a direct beeline towards the kitchen. At most times, they usually sound rather chipper and jubilant in the mornings. This time? They look completely distant and guarded of their surroundings. That was definitely an eye-raising moment. Something serious must be bothering them.
"Morning.." I grumbled, sounding grumpy as ever. My stomach soundly grumbled over the delicious sight of breakfast waiting for it to be eaten.
Deep down, I had a wild urge to devour everything just to satisfy my stomach but that would make me even more late than usual. Taking a red Fuji apple out of the fruit bowl, I took a small bite and began munching on the fruit. It doesn't simplify my hunger like an actual breakfast meal does. No matter! It will please my stomach for now.
Finding where my phone was last being seen, I scrolled through my phone, my face illuminated with an eerie blue glow. Many missed calls and unread text messages blinked on the screen. My fingers hovered over the screen, debating whether to reply to them or not. Since I simply chose not to, the phone tucked in the hidden side compartment of my backpack.
As I hastily gathered all my other school essentials and almost went out the door, my parents stopped my tracks so they would be able to speak to me. "Sweetheart?"
I raised my head to briefly glance toward them with a simple,"Yes?"
"We need to discuss an important conversation with you, sweetie!" My dad said while patting against the chair next to his. I opened my mouth to respond, but my phone was pinging so many times.
"Now isn't the right time. I am late for the first day of school.." I dismissed them while shooting an apologetic gaze. The text messages drastically changed into phone calls. It left me leaving in a rush of urgency. Sprinting out the door, they heard me yell, "Talk later!"
Then, I went out the door to sprint my way onto school. The constant phone pinging came to a stop which can be relieving for me. However, my thoughts remain on my parents and what they wanted to tell me. Somehow, a sense of quiet regret sat in my stomach. Simply ignoring them made me feel like a horrible daughter sometimes. I wish to turn back and listen to what they had to say to me, but that'll unfortunately make me even more late to school. There's a strong possibility they will inform me later on. Hopefully, that will happen!

11/21-22/2023
tuesday - wednesday
listening to arab on radar, made cookies, read some julia kristeva.
not as much as i would have liked. her book called black sun, about misery. she says melancholia a lot, but something feels distantly embarrassing about saying that. saying i am melancholic. i am, though. it's so obvious it's painful, which is why it's a bit of an embarrassing word to say. i'm excited for her chapter about beauty, in the book. i want to read more of her stuff, so i dled some pdfs, might check that out tonight. anyway:
today i woke up annoyed, because the thing that got me out of bed was being told about how my friends got confused, because of the one guy in there who i find really frustrating, because he is making my friend depressed, gently, or not gently, but it's not aggressively, i guess. he was like, it's next week right, and other guys were like, is it?? and then they were like, well maybe it should be. my friend's gf was like, well, you should all try to come by tomorrow! which got a lot of them to be like: okay. the only one who seems like a maybe at this point, is the annoying guy. i am still expecting him to show up, though. he is saying he's going to be cooking w/ his family for thursday, but who knows, he's not a good cook, he cooked for us on his birthday (a kindness, certainly (strangely, he talked to me extensively that day, that day only, about how much he wanted everyone to be together always, all the time, and how much pleasure he got from getting everyone together "like this"(lends credence to the idea that he really wants to be the center of whatever group he's in))) and when he cooked he burnt all the meat, overdone, a friend said it was quote unquote dog-food. so i think his family would actually be happy to lose his hands.
i made 31 cookies, 33 technically but i ate 1.5, gf ate the other half (too full).
i'm still looking forward to tomorrow. i'm going to bitch abt the annoying guy with my friend's gf, i'm sure she'd be happy to complain a little, since he tried to fuck her plans up, or not tried, he just kind of almost did, by stumbling in the dark. everyone was like, making me so mad, when they were like, maybe we really should do it next week. it felt like a bunch of men deciding that when women make plans that they aren't central to, they can freely ignore them and decide what would make for better plan-making. one said that it'd be easier to plan if it were next week, but this has been a plan for about a week, already, it feels like at least. maybe less? it's just casual, though. i guess i gave myself something easy to do, with the cookies, compared to other things people might cook.
anyway i want to post some dolls and then sleep:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
@_godog_ hijikata haruna
i wonder if her name is her actual name or if a chosen name based on tatsumi hijikata, the butoh dancer/ pioneer. it would fit, aesthetically, the dolls are right on the edge of corpselike, i would like to put special attention to the recent works with dolls that have these nacre eyes. they're so dead, and so like cataracts, but still intone something beyond or before death, not lifeless, just beside the void. it gives voice to the experience/ thought that one speaks it, or is a vessel for that nothing to pass through, a perfection written with lightness, i also quite like what must be the earlier dolls with extremely off kilter / askew eyes, also near death, but also near the to the erotic experience, also dissociative, distant, it reminds me of being places and doing things i didn't like but also had no way to imagine excusing myself from, so i was just like, okay.
also, all the hands, they are between searching and articulating pain. arthritic and curious. (and the toes on the one with exposed feet, really special detail work across all the digits)
either way, they are really beautiful to me, i quite love her work.

some of these skew a bit too trevor brown for me to want to post here (unfortunately i like some of his stuff, because i guess i look at it and have the stupid, wow, girl with surgery equipment looking crazy, i love that, response (he is so clearly a gross perv but i guess i excuse it in certain artists and not others (that's fine though because i don't think i'm ever excusing pedophilia like i feel like i'd have to w/ trevor brown (i don't think these dolls are pedophilic, though, so)))) anyways, i'm shocked i never saw or heard of these dolls anywhere, they're quite cute, and pretty. they just kind of lean on the whole creepy cute thing (all these dolls do) but these ones are much more willingly the kind of creepy cute pop art that can either become very bad or be very good, i'm fond of it. it's like so near bad taste it's kind of lovely/intoxicating, like the weird amputee dolls, it's an externalization of a cluster of feelings or ways you can feel like you are seen in such aggressive manner, i guess if you are one to read it that way, it's compelling no matter what. another reason i guess i'm so stricken by it, is the tension between perfection/the pristine, wanting terrible things to happen, and real malady, subtle bruising, illness, wanting to be tortured, being tortured actually, and needing to be beautiful, and that impossibility, all projected onto a toy, also remains compelling for me, in particular the conjoined twin dolls connect. the fish stomach one is simply very stunning to me, really really beautiful, and also silly and simple, it's stepping the line of good taste in certain ways, it does not have any restraint, none of these do, all excess all the time, everything at full volume, subtlety isn't absent, it's revived from a corpse though, killed and brought back by all the noise, it exists in the (dis)harmonies and nested thoughts happening as you are blasted by that image, sneaking many things in, dirty fantasies and the worry over the fantasies all the same.
ofc the mari shimizu feeling thing w/ the anatomical venus belly cutout w/ something religious feeling placed inside instead of organs (the sacred is the bodily??? gaspppp) is cute. i can't tell if it bothers me when anyone but her does that. i'm in favor, i suppose, because it is such a pretty/cute idea, to me.

these ones really caught my eye, as where the last creator leans very hard into the kitsch/pop art area, and the first feels so heavenly almost, corpses stuck in a threeway of transcending, rotting, and still living, returning to themselves, or having never left, these really are the most corpselike and grotesque without being actually ugly. the first doll here, has a stomach as rough as the moon, it resembles io to me, the body is the color of a corpse left in a sulfuric lake, the face is that of an angry god. the noh mask features are quite insane, these dolls are maybe the most physical i've seen, or they immediately strike me as physical, heavy. the one missing her arm, she is less impersonable in her face, but she still remains strange, uncanny. i also quite love the desaturated pink ribbon as a mote of viscera. somehow more effective than anything grosser, it feels, it gives a sensation in my arms, of the tendons quieting after an execution.
~
anyhow, uhh, what else did i do, today. i tried redoing vox for another song, i think it's almost there, need to go back in and do a couple lines probably, i want some parts that are like girlier sounding i guess, no better way to put that. and then find a way to mix the vocals a little better, maybe just low shelf some stuff out. it can be quieter too, listening to arab on radar, it's not like the stuff i want to be like is really like, upfront vocally.
another song i think it'd be good to keep in mind:
youtube
i think maybe next super short song i do i should let myself use a synth sound that's really obvious, instead of these guitar thingies, just give myself like, a break, with mixing. i think it'd be easier.. . but who knows. i love to #fuckeverythingup and #dotoomuch (earlier in the blog, when i talk about subtlety revived, life poured into its mouth by noise i was also talking about something i think i do and #lovesomuch)
anyway i have to sleep soon. i get so much more talkative here when i ready anyfuckingthing. it's crazy. i have to make myself do it a bit every day. it made me write a little too. nothing substantial (substantial right now has to be me going in and working on the structure and slotting things together for the story) but doing anything is good. it keeps my mind working.
so,

Into The Woods
Pairing: werewolf!Dream / Clay x human!gn!reader
Summary: [Werewolf!AU] It’s love at first sight when you move into a quaint, little house by the forest’s edge, but you soon find that there’s more waiting for you in the woods than you originally thought.
Word Count: 10k
A/N: my third commissioned story! this work has been altered so everyone can read it, but the plot remains the same. this story was a blast to write, and i hope you all enjoy it! <3
Tumblr media
With a step back and a firm tug, the back door slammed shut with a satisfying click. You grinned as you turned the key in the lock. Slipping the silver keyring into your pocket, you turned on your heel, your gaze sweeping over the vast open forest that stretched out before you. Viridian green leaves loomed over the earth, standing in stark contrast to the clear, cerulean blue sky that stretched across the horizon overhead. On the ground below, the occasional wildflower sprouted up and out of the earth, their soft petals shyly unfurling and fluttering in the warm summer breeze.
For such a lovely view, you never would have guessed that you would be able to afford a place like this for so cheap.
Then again, Elmwood Ridge wasn’t a particularly notable town. Best known for its countless acres of elm forests and the large lake that laid at its centre, the town had become something of a nature reserve unto itself, despite being anything but. It was a quiet, quaint region, somewhere you had always distantly dreamed of visiting, if only because of its peaceful atmosphere. You never thought that you would end up living there, though.
It had been a split second decision made on impulse, and looking back, maybe it wasn’t the smartest move you’d ever made, but you didn’t regret one bit. Your new house was two stories tall and built with lovely stone bricks that looked like they came right out of a fairytale. The triangular sloping roof hung just over the sides of the house to provide some shelter from the rain, and the second floor had two balconies—one in the front and the back. Needless to say, you were sold in a heartbeat. Not only was the house pretty, but so was the price tag. You vaguely remembered hearing something about complaints of noisy wolves in the forest, but you weren't deterred. A little noise never killed anyone, and you were more than happy to share your space with nature.
Hopping down the back steps, you gently tread across the soft grass, careful not to step on any flowers as you walked. After moving in two days ago, you had planned to take the day off to hike and learn all that you could about your new backyard. You would head into town tomorrow and look for a job then—right now, all you wanted to do was explore and appreciate your new home.
Gazing up at the rustling elm leaves one last time, you smiled to yourself before stepping out of your lawn and into the forest.
In the distance, a faint howl rang out across the trees.
Tumblr media
Between stretches of chestnut wood, a flash of tawny brown and golden fur dashed across the earth, powerful paws pushing off the ground with each leap. Landing atop a fallen log, the wolf raised his head, his muzzle raised toward the sky as he inhaled sharply, his nostrils flaring.
Fresh. Clean. Warm. The faintest scent of flowers.
He exhaled, emerald eyes blinking as he scanned the open forest around him.
Carrying out routine morning patrols around the pack’s territory was one of the alpha’s many duties, but Clay still wasn’t quite used to it.
Stepping down from the log, he let his tongue hang out of his mouth, his ears flicking as he took in every sound. Somewhere above him, a bird flapped its wings, chirping as it took flight. Along the breeze, he could pick up the distant scent of deer coming from the south. His eyes flashed at the smell. He would have to report that to the pack when he returned—it had been a few days since they last had a large hunt. Sniffing one last time, he began weaving between the looming trunks, his entire body rapt with focus.
He had only been appointed as alpha a little less than a month ago, and although he had technically been taught the ropes, it took more than just a few lessons for a wolf to truly become alpha. He could still remember how the former alpha had pressed his nose to his side, nudging him onto the rock peak in front of his pack with an aging howl. He had been getting older, and everyone knew it—it was only a matter of time until a new leader was selected, but Clay never would have dreamt he would be the one who was chosen.
Only a few people were as surprised as he was, though. He was one of the larger wolves in the pack, and while he wasn’t the tallest in his human form—that title belonged to the young, curious Ranboo—he was by far the strongest, having led more than his fair share of hunts before. It was only natural that he ended up in his position, and he was welcomed into the upper ranks with open arms.
A glimmer of warmth washed over him at the memory, and he would have smiled if he wasn’t shifted. He had never felt such pride before, feeling everyone’s excited gazes on him as he howled up at the gleaming, full moon. The shouts that filled the starry night sky made his heart swell in his chest, and he just knew he was going to do his best to make everyone proud. He would protect them to the ends of the earth, if he had to.
Kicking away a stray branch, his eyes quickly flicked over his surroundings. He recognized this area, and he knew that he had almost completed a full circle around the pack’s perimeter, by now. There was only a tiny stretch left before he would return to the camp and fill everyone in. Raising his head, he let his jaw fall open to catch any aromas that travelled along the breeze.
All of a sudden, a new scent wafted over his nose, an unsettling sense of unfamiliarity striking deep within his core.
There was something in the woods—something that did not belong here.
In an instant, Clay’s lips were pulled back in a snark, his sharp canines bared as he sank his paws into the soil below. His claws latched onto the dirt, his grip firm and unwavering as he pressed himself closer to the ground, careful not to let his scent travel in the air.
They weren’t common, but every now and then, hunters would venture into the woods with their heads held high and guns drawn. Most of them came hunting for game, shooting down the occasional deer or elk to bring back to their own families. Clay didn’t have a problem with those hunters, but as for the ones who came in search of wolves?
Clay wasn’t sure he could be so lenient with those ones.
Prowling forward, he kept his haunches low, his tail brushing over the shrubbery as he took step after step toward the strange, new scent. Ever so slowly, he crept closer, his pupils dilated in focus. Suddenly, he stopped, freezing in place.
He could hear footsteps.
Inhaling deeply, he let his eyelids fall shut.
One, two, three...
His eyes shot wide open, and he whipped his head up, only to go stock still as a silhouette came into view.
It was a person, a regular person.
He blinked as he lifted his head, his expression growing neutral as he watched you crouch down to examine a small pile of stones stacked beside a tree, one that he vaguely remembered being made by Tommy and Tubbo when they went exploring a few weeks ago. There was no gun strapped to your body, no pack hanging off your hips as you rose back up to your feet. You didn’t seem to be a threat at all, and from the back, he couldn’t tell if you were even carrying a weapon.
Just then, you turned to the side, and he felt his breath hitch in his throat.
The world suddenly fell away, his surroundings melting into nothing more than a hazy blur as his eyes locked onto your face. His heart came to a screeching halt in his chest.
You were beautiful.
The light framing your lovely face made your cheeks seem all the more lively as you rose. He watched as you brushed your fingers delicately over the bark of a tree, your brilliant eyes meticulously tracing over the curve of every leaf as you walked past. Your feet never lingered in one place for long, constantly moving and skittering across the forest floor like a rippling stream. It was almost as though your every movement cast streaks of dappled sunlight everywhere you stepped, the marvelling spark flickering in your gaze making his head spin with wild abandon.
Clay felt something warm and tight curl against his insides, unmistakably soft and affectionate. It was almost hard to breathe with the way his lungs squeezed and shook behind his ribs. He hadn’t felt this feeling before, but he had heard enough stories to know exactly what it was.
His mate—you were his mate.
There wasn’t any one way to truly describe what a mating bond was, but the most commonly accepted one was that it was a connection that tied people’s souls together, uniting them in perfect harmony. Every werewolf had a mate, and most of the time, they would find their mate in another one of their kind. But right now, as Clay stood in the forest, his gaze glued to the most beautiful human he had ever laid eyes on, he knew that he wasn’t going to find his mate in some other shifter like everyone else had said he would.
Having a human for a mate was rare at best, and unheard of at worst. After all, not every human had a mate, and he had heard stories of shifters being rejected by their human mates. Some of the elders in the camp still refused to believe that having a human mate was even possible, but nearly all of the younger shifters had accepted it—embraced it, even. But never in his pack, at least, had someone learned that their mate was a human.
It looked like he was going to be the first.
For a few long moments, he simply stood there, watching you silently with wide eyes as you slowly made your way deeper down the path. A part of him wanted to chase after you, yearned to walk by your side for as long as his legs would let him. But as soon as he raised his paw, he quickly lowered it again, a pang of guilt shooting through him.
He couldn’t go up to you—not like this, and most certainly not now. He didn’t have nearly enough experience under his belt as an alpha yet, and bringing you to his world could just make everything even worse if he wasn’t careful about it. He swallowed, taking a single step back as you slowly slipped out of view, disappearing into the trees and carrying your lovely scent away with you.
Anxiety gnawed at the inside of his gut, and he couldn’t help but wonder if you would even return. Surely you must live around here to be hiking in these woods—maybe you would hike here again, if not even more often.
He paused, then nodded to himself before whipping around, his tail swishing behind him as he clenched his jaw.
Tomorrow. He would come back tomorrow.
A few feet deeper within the trees, the sound of a stick snapping shattered the forest’s silence.
Along the lightly-treaded path, you whirled, your head pointing toward the sharp sound. Pausing, you raised your head, your gaze darting to the forest canopy above. The sun peaked down at you between swaths of vibrant green, and you squinted, raising a hand to shield your eyes. The trees remained quiet around you, only whispering with the soft rustles of their leaves.
A moment passed in silence. A robin warbled.
You let out a long exhale and shook your head. Turning once more, you stepped over a small crack in the ground, humming as you walked further into the woods.
It was probably nothing.
Tumblr media
Sapnap grunted as he dropped the pile of sticks onto the ground, the wood clattering at his feet in a heap. He scowled at the sight, resisting the urge to kick the pile down. He couldn’t believe Wilbur had actually tricked him into doing something as simple as collecting firewood. It wasn’t difficult or anything, but he was the beta, for crying out loud! He could have at least passed the buck to someone like Tommy, that brat.
“Sapnap.”
Sapnap blinked at the familiar voice, turning to find himself standing face to face with Clay. His dirty blond hair was disheveled atop his head, and his cheeks were flushed with heat. A smile tugged on his lips at the sight. “Oh, hey, Clay. Welcome back.” He squinted at the way Clay’s chest heaved, his breaths coming out shaky and uneven. “Um, you good, there? Did you run back here or somethi—”
“It happened,” Clay blurted.
Sapnap blinked, raising a single brow at him. “What happened?”
Clay swallowed, his Adam’s apple bobbing. “I met my mate.”
Sapnap paused. “Oh. Oh.” A wide grin stretched across his face, and he reached over to clap a hand to Clay’s back. “That’s awesome, man! I’m guessing it happened on your patro—”
“My mate’s human,” Clay said suddenly.
Sapnap paused again. “Oh. Oh.”
Letting out a deep sigh, Clay’s shoulders went slack at his side as he ran a hand through his hair, pushing it away from his scalp. “I, um,” he said, his words coming out in a hazy rush. “I don’t think I’m ready to—” He stopped, feeling Sapnap’s patient gaze rest on him, then opened his mouth, again. “I can’t just reveal our world so soon. I’ve only been alpha for what?” He gestured vaguely. “A month? I’m not experienced enough, yet.” He slumped forward, a hollow, wistful look settling onto his features. “It would be too much for both of us.”
Sapnap nodded thoughtfully, understanding flooding his face. “It’s okay, Clay. Take your time.” He fell silent for a brief moment, then quietly added, “Did you reveal yourself or anything?”
He shook his head. “Not at all. I was too surprised to even move.”
Sapnap’s lips quirked up into a tiny smile. “Then there’s no rush,” he said. “You’re allowed to build up your confidence first, dude. Your confidence as a wolf. As an alpha.” His eyes flashed with soft reassurance. “As a mate.”
Clay raised his head, blinking as Sapnap gently nudged his shoulder with his. “You can do this. Plus,” he added, his tone growing more lighthearted, “I’m your beta. You know I’ve got your back.”
The chuckle that escaped Clay’s lips was low and short, but he could already feel the tension seep out his shoulders like a leaking dam. “Thanks, Sap.”
Taking a step back, Sapnap hummed, offering him a lopsided smile. “Anytime.”
Clay turned on his heel, jerking his head toward the centre of the camp. “Well, I need to organize today’s hunt, but I’ll catch you later. I trust you’ll keep things under control while I’m gone.”
He nodded. “Of course—you know me.” With a short wave and a small grin, Clay began walking off in the opposite direction. “Oh, also,” Sapnap suddenly shouted after him, “don’t forget to grab something to eat before you go hunting today, yeah? I know you missed breakfast.”
Clay didn’t look behind him as he shot a thumbs up at Sapnap from behind his back, but Sapnap could already picture the way he would roll his eyes with a smile. Shaking his head, he turned back to the firewood scattered around his feet, a new glower creeping onto his face.
He was so getting back at Wilbur for this.
Tumblr media
Every morning after, Clay dutifully woke up early and strolled deep into the woods, shifted into his wolf form as he scented the air and patrolled the area just as any good alpha would. But time and time again, that one sweet scent never seemed to return, almost as though it had vanished from the forest entirely. At times, he thought he caught the faintest whiff of it, but some further exploration would only reveal a small patch of flowers, never you.
Needless to say, his disappointment was palpable.
It had been a full week now, and Clay was running out of hope. Maybe he was wrong—maybe you wouldn’t ever come back. His heart ached at the thought.
He had been too hasty, wasn’t he?
Hanging his head, he whimpered to himself in the quiet forest, sniffing absentmindedly as he ambled about almost aimlessly. He still had a duty to fulfill, he knew, but he couldn’t ignore the empty feeling burrowing deeper and deeper into his chest.
But right then, just as he paced another few feet forward, he heard it.
A melody.
It was soft, the singing travelling down from the west in a distant murmur, or perhaps a hum. If he hadn’t been paying attention, he surely would have missed it. He didn’t know this song, didn’t recognize it one bit, but he could already tell that it was sweeter than any thrush’s song or any loon’s call. He felt his heart flip in his chest, and just like that, he knew.
In a flash, he was racing across the earth, his paws flying out beneath him in a blur as he ducked under branches and darted past deer, missing the way they startled at his sudden approach. The song was louder now, and he could smell it—smell you.
It was only a few seconds later that he came to a stop, his paws digging into the ground as his heart leapt into his throat.
Soft hair. Bright eyes. A dazzling grin.
You were back.
You had headphones on this time, he realized, and you were humming aloud to yourself, your feet most likely moving in time to the beat of whatever song you were listening to. You were a little off-key and occasionally stumbled over the refrain as it came around, but he found himself entranced nonetheless. Even when you were doing something as simple as humming, you were stunning.
Why come back today of all days? he distantly wondered to himself. What made today so different from any other day?
He wracked his mind as he felt the sun shine down on him gently, warming his back as he crouched down a little. He rarely kept track of the days—that was Sapnap’s job—but he knew that there hadn’t been any special events or holidays going on in the human world. Pressing his ears flat against his head, he scratched his paw at the ground in confusion. Just what made today so special?
That was when the realization slammed into him.
It had been a week since he last saw you.
Once a week—you must hike here once a week.
If he could smile in this form, he already knew that he would have the biggest, stupidest grin plastered to his face. He wanted to leap for joy and howl like there was no tomorrow, but he didn’t want to alert you of his presence just yet. Again, it had only been a week, and he was still far from being a worthy mate for you.
Once a week, he thought once more, his eyes glued to you as you skipped further down the trail and out of his sight. I can wait another week.
The wind sang in his ears as a gentle breeze brushed over his tawny fur, the forest murmuring a silent lullaby into his ear as he whirled back around. As much as he wanted to stay with you forever, he had a patrol to finish and a pack to defend. He let his eyelids flutter shut for the briefest of moments, your face engraved into the rosy crevices of his heart as your humming filled his ears once more.
He couldn’t wait to see you, again.
Tumblr media
One week later, you grumbled to yourself as you stomped through the woods, complaining about your new job under your breath. Clay wished he could comfort you, but stayed put with his claws buried in the dirt.
Two weeks later, you watched with wide eyes as a doe and her fawn drank from a nearby stream. He made sure not to hunt those two down in particular later that week.
Three weeks later, you were snapping photo after photo with the camera hanging around your neck, your eyes absolutely brimming with curiosity. He thought you were prettier than any view the forest had to offer.
As one week stumbled into the next, the months began to pass in a blur. Summer collapsed into autumn as the leaves turned gorgeous shades of crimson red and golden orange before tumbling from the sky. Shortly after that, the forest was covered in a blanket of ivory white snow, leaving the branches bare and awaiting the return of spring. The snow soon melted into rain, and puddles littered the forest floor while flowers began to bud and bloom once more. In almost a whirlwind of seasons and waiting, summer rolled around once more, marking the first anniversary of your arrival in Elmwood Ridge.
With each passing season, Clay continued to watch you from afar with a tender gaze. Some days, he would listen to you hum as you trekked along while other times, he would only manage to catch the tiniest of glimpses of you between the trees. No matter how short the instance was, every second he got was well worth the wait, and Clay could feel his affection bloom like a new spring flower. As the trees grew larger, as did his confidence. Time was the best teacher the forest had to offer, and it didn’t take much longer for Clay to grow comfortable with his duty as the alpha of his pack. But despite his newfound strength, he still didn’t feel ready enough to approach you outright, to reveal himself to you as he was. Doubt swirled in his mind like a raging storm, eating away at him like a gnat digging through mud.
He was beginning to fear he may never be ready.
Lifting his head, he sniffed the air, the now familiar scent of his mate drifting across the new summer breeze. You were taking a new path today, he noted in an instant. Perhaps you were doing some exploring.
Padding through the trees, leaves crunched beneath his feet as he leapt over logs and puddles, following after your scent as it grew stronger and stronger. It only took a few moments for him to find you standing atop an elevated rock face, your head lifted as you gazed up at the light scattered between the tree leaves. Your face almost seemed to be glowing in the pale, morning sunshine, your eyes looking like two dewdrops as they curved into tiny crescents. Clay’s heart rattled in his chest, and he resisted the urge to howl to the heavens above.
You were lovely, his mate. If only he could work up the courage to properly tell you.
Basking in the sunlight, he watched as you took a few steps forward closer to the cliff’s edge, your eyes still trained on the sky above. It wasn’t a terribly deep fall, he knew, but the fall was most certainly far enough to hurt someone if they fell at the wrong angle. He narrowed his eyes as you stopped dangerously close to the edge, halting just a few inches from the drop. Surely the stone was strong enough to support your weight, even as old as it was, right?
Apparently not.
Clay saw the cliff crumble before you did.
Terror shot through his body like a bullet as he watched the rock face collapse under your shoes, your feet tumbling out beneath you. Your hands desperately reached for the cliff face, but he could tell from the way your scream cut through the forest’s silence like a sharpened blade that you weren't going to be able to grab it in time.
There was no time for him to think—his body moved first.
In one moment, he was standing with his mouth slack and his emerald eyes blown wide with horror. In the next, he was lunging across the rock face, his jaws wide open as he reached for the lower collar of your shirt. The moment he felt his nose brush against the back of your neck, he snapped his jaws shut, careful not to pierce your skin with his sharp canines as the cloth caught between his teeth. Your weight bounced beneath him once, and the gasp that escaped your lips made his head spin dizzily.
Close—you were so close, and your scent was intoxicating.
You turned your head ever so slightly, and he felt it the moment your eyes locked onto his. You were scared, he could tell, but as you took in the sight of the wolf holding onto you, you almost seemed to relax in his grip. Planting his paws firmly against the rocky earth, he tugged his jaw up and backwards, pulling you away from the cliff face and over even ground. Your hands scrambled to latch onto the cliff edge, helping to pull yourself up until finally, he let go of you, your now torn collar resting against the back of your neck.
Heaving a sigh of relief, you let yourself collapse against the rock face, lying on your back as you gasped for breath. Your chest felt tight like a wound-up spring, and adrenaline pumped through every vein in your body, yet you felt oddly calm. After a minute or two, you slowly pushed yourself forward on your arms until you were just barely slouching forward, looking over your shoulder. A few feet away from you, the wolf stood, his eyes trained intently on your face as you swallowed.
“Um,” you breathed, your eyes desperately scanning him up and down. “Hello?”
He didn’t say anything in return, simply shuffling further away from you. He was giving you space, you realized after a brief moment, and you blinked as you scrambled to sit completely upright. His fur was a soft, golden brown, and you had half the mind to distantly think that you wanted to run your fingers through it. Something about him seemed comforting like that.
“Hi,” you whispered once you were seeing him eye-to-eye. “Ah, um, thank you for saving me.”
Maybe you were just imagining it, but you could have sworn his eyes widened in an almost human-like manner. He didn’t move from his spot a few feet away from you, and you swallowed. You thought you would be more scared than this, more terrified of the beast standing before you. But as you sat there, watching as he blinked at you, you felt as though you were anything but. An unfamiliar yet strangely comforting warmth curled around in the pit of your stomach as you tilted your head at the wolf.
He felt so... safe. So familiar, almost like you had met him before.
“Are—are you a nice wolf?” you asked after another moment, your voice faltering the tiniest bit. “I’d like to think you’re a nice wolf, since you just saved my life.”
Once again, you were greeted by silence, the only indication that he had heard you at all being the way his ears flicked. What am I doing? you suddenly thought, your mind running at a million miles a minute. I’m talking to a wolf—an animal. I’m not a Disney character.
This was weird—or at least it was supposed to be. Yet, as you stared at this wolf who simply stared back at you with these bright, stunning green eyes, you couldn’t help but feel that everything in this moment was just perfect. Like you had been waiting your entire life for this moment to happen.
“You’re really pretty,” you suddenly blurted. In an instant, you were slamming your palm over your mouth, your cheeks flooding with heat. “Oh my god, that was embarrassing,” you murmured, your voice coming out muffled. “I’m sorry.”
Your heart hammered against your ribcage like a caged bird begging to be let out, and ever so slowly, you lowered your hands from your mouth, offering the wolf a shaky, sheepish smile. “Um, thank you, again,” you said gently, honestly. Leaning forward, you pressed your hands against the cool stone to balance yourself, your fingers digging into the rock as you spoke. “I don’t really know how you knew I was there or how you knew I was going to fall, but I really appreciate it.”
The wolf blinked at you once more, then took another step back, subtly dipping his head. Your smile widened at the sight. Pushing yourself upward, you rose to your feet, brushing off the dust from your frontside before standing upright, fidgeting almost nervously.
“I—I,” you stammered, suddenly feeling awkward, “I think I’m going to go home now, but...” You swallowed, raising your hand in a small wave as heat rose in your chest. “...thank you so much, again!”
Before the warmth in your heart could burst, you whipped around, sprinting away as fast as your legs could take you. You didn’t see the way the wolf practically crumbled into a ball on the ground, whimpering to himself as you disappeared out of sight.
Bolting down the hill and past the trees, branches blew past you in a blur as you dashed between the trunks and over patches of wildflowers. Your heartbeat pounded in your ears like a beating drum, and your chest felt oddly light. You couldn’t shake the memory of how intense that wolf’s gaze had been on yours, his eyes swirling with something that made your stomach churn and your mouth go dry.
He really was pretty.
Tumblr media
Sapnap yawned as he stretched his arm behind his back and above his head, rolling his neck as the joint popped back into place with a satisfying crack. He couldn’t remember the last time he slept in like this, but he did not regret it one bit. Clay had given him the okay, after all. One late morning wouldn’t hurt anyone.
“Sapnap, you are not going to believe this.”
Sapnap yelped, whipping around with eyes as wide as saucers as he stumbled back a step. The drowsiness left his body in an instant, almost as though he had never been tired to begin with. Clay’s hand shot out to grab his arm, steadying him as he swallowed, relaxing once he realized who he was looking at.
“Holy crap, Clay,” he gasped, pressing a hand to his racing heart, “you scared me! I know you’ve gotten better at this whole stealth thing, but that was just straight up terrifyi—”
Clay’s grip on his arm tightened. “I saved them today,” he whispered.
Sapnap froze, and there was a beat of silence. “You did what, now?”
Just like that, Clay had flung his arms up and around his head, his fingers buried in his hair as he began to pace, his tone frantic and rushed. “There—there was this steeper area with this cliff but it was kind of hidden, and then it was breaking and I just knew something bad was going to happen, and I couldn’t just let that happen, so I moved without thinking and I was pulling them back and—”
A pair of hands suddenly grabbed onto his shoulders, stopping him dead in his tracks. “Breathe,” Sapnap instructed calmly. “You need to breathe, dude.” Clay opened his mouth, but Sapnap spoke before he could. “You are talking so quickly right now, and I can’t understand you when you talk like that.”
Clay closed his mouth, mulling over the whirlwind of thoughts and emotions steamrolling through his head. After a few moments, he finally spoke once more. “I still can’t believe it,” he murmured, suddenly sounding completely and utterly awestruck. “My mate actually stopped and thanked me. And called me pretty.”
Sapnap’s fingers loosened around Clay’s shoulders, a ghost of a smile gracing his lips. “Yeah?”
Clay sighed, sounding absolutely lovestruck. “Yeah.”
Pulling his arms back to cross them over his chest, Sapnap eyed him up and down, cocking his head. “So,” he began gently, “how are you feeling?” When Clay opened his mouth, Sapnap quickly added, “Slowly, please.”
Clay groaned, teasingly rolling his eyes before leaning back on his heels, rocking back and forth as he began to speak. “I only revealed myself as a wolf,” he said softly, “so I don’t know if they know about the mating bond yet. I don’t even know if humans can feel it like we can.”
He tilted his head back, gazing up at the cerulean blue sky. “But there’s something about the way we looked at each other that makes me feel like maybe, just maybe, humans can feel it,” he whispered, sounding breathless all at once. “Call it a gut feeling, I guess. I don’t know.” He cast a glance over at Sapnap, his eyebrows furrowed. “Do I sound crazy?”
A thoughtful look flickered across Sapnap’s face. Then, he grinned. “A little bit, yeah.”
Clay sighed, something he noticed he had been doing a lot more, lately. “I just…” He swallowed. “I just don’t want something like that to happen ever, ever again.”
Suddenly, he fell quiet, his lips parting as the wheels in his head began to turn. Sapnap watched as a tiny spark came to life within his focused gaze, small but oh-so vibrant.
“You got an idea there?” he prompted after a few seconds of silence.
Clay blinked once. Twice. Then, a smile stretched across his face—a smile as bright as the full moon.
“Something like that.”

It was probably a dumb idea for you to return to the forest for your weekly hike as if nothing had happened, but you couldn’t quite quench the curiosity that bubbled up inside you every time you thought about the wolf who had saved you. His gaze had been fiery, yet compassionate, and he had been purposely so gentle when tugging you away from the cliff. You weren't a fool—you knew how powerful a wolf could be. Then why did he treat you so kindly?
You had to find out.
Marching through the brush and shrubbery, you whipped your head this way and that, scanning every strip of forest you could lay your eyes on. Wolves were good at hiding, you knew that. After all, if they weren’t as stealthy as they were, they would never be able to catch a meal. But you had been hiking for almost an hour now, and you still hadn’t seen a single glimpse of the wolf. You couldn’t say you were completely surprised, since it wasn’t like you knew every inch of the forest, but you were frustrated to admit that you were at least a little disappointed. Maybe this was a lost cause.
But then, you heard it.
The sound of a stick snapping.
Freezing, you paused, turning as you glanced to the sides. Nothing out of the ordinary stood among the bushes. You stopped again, then pursed your lips.
No, something was there.
A tender curiosity sparked between your lungs, but it was coated in a thin layer of reluctance. Sucking in a deep breath, you whipped around, squinting at the seemingly empty trees around you as you opened your mouth.
“Wolf?” you called out slowly into the quiet. “Is that you?”
At first, all was quiet, and you held your breath. The leaves rustled around you almost tauntingly, and you distantly heard the caw of a crow. You were just about to give up and go home when a flash of gold caught your eye.
Standing motionless a single yard away was a wolf—your wolf.
A grin stretched across your face, joy surging through your body as you carefully took a few steps forward. Oh, this was definitely a dumb idea, but you was more than brave enough to keep going.
“Hi, there.” You shuffled your feet, a tentative look passing over your face. “You’re, um—” You gulped. “You’re not going to hurt me, are you?”
Clay’s eyes went wide, and he took a step back. No! he thought, hoping you would be able to read his expression, even as a wolf. Never. Not in a million years.
You stared at him for a long moment, blinking slowly as you scanned his face up and down. Then, your lips quirked up into the tiniest of smiles.
“No,” you murmured in the softest of voices, and he felt his heart melt in his chest. “If you were going to do something, you would have done it by now, wouldn’t you?”
Clay nearly sank in relief, and he barked. You raised a brow at the sound, furrowing your brows slightly. “Do you want me to keep you company?” you asked, beginning to walk up to him. “Is that what you’re doing?”
You had only made it a few steps when he suddenly barked again, taking a step toward you. In an instant, you froze, watching with bated breath as he curled around to your other side and gently nudged at your leg with his nose. You shot him a curious glance, stumbling forward the tiniest bit. “Hey,” you said, “what are you...?”
You trailed off, a cut rock face suddenly catching your attention from the corner of your eye. The stony grey wall was nearly perpendicular to the ground and looked almost eerily similar to the one you had nearly fallen down the week prior. Just like that, it clicked.
There was another small cliff right there. He was trying to keep you away from it.
“Oh,” you breathed, your lips splitting into an even wider grin as you made sure to steer away from the short cliff, “you don’t want me falling again, do you?”
He snorted, and you blinked at him. That sounded far more human this time—almost too human. It almost reminded you of a dog, if anything. A triumphant smile slowly crept onto your face, and with your head held high, you turned on your heel, marching onward and away from the rock face.
“Well, wolf,” you said, a teasing arrogance seeping into your tone as you glanced over your shoulder at him, “I promise you that I’ll be much safer this time arou—woah!”
The toe of your shoe caught on a protruding stone, and with a sharp yelp, you stumbled forward, gravity pulling you downward with a harsh pull. With a flail of your arms, you only just barely caught your balance as your hand shot out to grab onto a tree and steady yourself. Your heart flipped in your chest as you planted your feet firmly against the ground, the soles of your shoes pressed flatly against the earth as your fingers curled into the bark. Your chest heaved with surprise as you stood upright, turning to look over your shoulder at the wolf. He blinked at you, and while you knew wolves couldn’t quite smile, something about his gaze almost seemed cocky—like he was laughing at you. Heat crept up your neck and onto your face, your cheeks bursting with warmth.
“Y-You did not see that,” you sputtered, coughing into your sleeve as you brushed off your pants dismissively.
Almost as if to spare you some embarrassment, he turned his head away from you, although you could see his eyes glance your way every few seconds. Pouting, you huffed, whirling on your feet as you continued to trudge down the path. Soon enough, the sound of soft footsteps trailed after you, and you couldn’t help but smile at the sound, knowing that he would follow you even if you weren't looking.
That night, you dreamt of whispering trees and a pair of bright, viridian green eyes.
Tumblr media
What had once been a weekly ritual of watching from afar soon turned into an amicable companionship between human and wolf. You weren't afraid as you walked into the woods to see a familiar pair of eyes waiting for you, your eagerness to see him only growing with each passing week. Clay himself could hardly contain his excitement. Actually walking beside you was so much better than simply watching from the woods, hidden by the trees. He loved your company and absolutely basked in your presence, even if you sent his heart into an absolute frenzy.
“Sometimes,” you said aloud one day, “I really do think you can understand me.”
Clay stiffened, praying you wouldn’t notice the way his ears pressed flat against his head as he turned to look at you. You sat on a tree stump while he padded atop the fallen trunk it sat beside, your gleaming gaze slowly blinking at him as he silently circled around you.
“I think it’s got something to do with the way you react to some of the things I say,” you murmured. You watched the way his tail flicked behind him, the soft fur brushing gently against the low-growing plants. A second later, you sighed, waving your hand. “Ah, I’m probably just imagining things.”
Clay nearly heaved a sigh of relief, continuing to pace. You would say surprising things like that every once in a while, and it would send his heart racing. Well, you usually only said one absurd thing per week, so you probably weren’t going to say another thing like that toda—
“Can I pet you?”
His paws came to a halt. Perhaps he thought too soon.
Before he could even properly process what you had said, You were backpedaling, shaking your head with an apologetic look. “Agh, that’s a terrible question. You’re a wolf, not a dog. There’s no way you wou—”
All of a sudden, he was crawling up to you, jutting his forehead toward your hand. His muzzle was clamped shut as his eyes bore into yours, and you gaped at him, the realization beginning to dawn on you.
“Wait,” you breathed in disbelief, “you’re actually going to let me?”
He didn’t move, lowering his eyes to the ground almost shyly as his ears curled toward you. Slowly, you raised your arm with a shaky hand and reached forward, letting your fingers gently brush over his tawny fur with a feather-light touch. You nearly gasped at the feeling, not noticing the way his legs trembled beneath him.
“Wolf,” you whispered after a few seconds, “you’re really soft.”
Clay nearly combusted on the spot. Perfect—everything about you was just perfect.
With your hand buried in his soft fur and the summer breeze ruffling your hair, You smiled, sighing with warmth lighting up your heart as the wolf at your feet melted beneath your touch.
Tumblr media
Sapnap tapped his foot impatiently, squinting up at the glaring sun. George slept in, again. He was kind of used to it now, but even though he wasn’t surprised, he wasn’t afraid to admit that he was more than just a little ticked off.
“My mate pet me today.”
Sapnap tensed for a split second, turning to see Clay staring at him with wide eyes. Relaxing once more, he stared at him for a long, long moment before speaking. He really needed to start giving him some sort of heads up at this point.
“Dude,” he said, “I know that the last time you asked me if you sounded crazy, I said a little bit, but I feel like I might have to change my answer.”
Clay shot him a glare, and he couldn’t stop his lips from twitching in amusement. “Sapnap,” he said bluntly, “you act like you don’t talk about Karl and Alex like this.”
Sapnap looked taken aback for a moment, raising a finger, then lowering it with a defeated look. “Touché.”
As Clay walked off with his head held high and a bounce in his step, Sapnap chuckled, watching him leave with a small smile. He recognized the gleam in his eyes, the rosy hue of his cheeks.
Love—Clay really was in love, wasn’t he?
Tumblr media
“I’ve been thinking,” you said one day, a few months later.
Clay perked up at the sound of your voice from where he lay at your feet, soaking in the first few rays of sun. It had been well over a year since he had first laid eyes on you now, and a little over a few months since you began walking together. It was only a matter of time until the leaves would turn golden brown once more as autumn descended upon them.
“I dunno,” you murmured, knocking your legs back against the stone you sat on. “I feel like I should give you a name instead of just calling you wolf all the time.” You flashed him a shy grin, your gaze darting this way and that. “It feels kind of awkward, you know?”
He cocked his head. A name? Chances were you probably weren't going to guess his actual name. He supposed he wouldn’t mind a nickname. Then again, he didn’t think he would mind anything that you might do. Lowering himself closer to the ground, he let out a quiet bark of approval.
Your lips twitched the tiniest bit at the sound, and you hummed, drumming your fingers against your thigh. “How do you feel about... Aaron?”
His emerald eyes flashed as he took a step back, ducking his head the slightest bit. Your lips pursed into a small pout, and you leaned down to rest your chin on your hand. “Alright,” you murmured, “not Aaron, then.” You chewed on the inside of your cheek for a second. “Roy?”
Clay didn’t even have to think about it for more than a second before he was whimpering, pressing his head to his paws as he dropped his haunches close to the ground. You snorted at his obvious disapproval, tapping the toes of your shoes together with a pensive look.
“Okay,” you said slowly, drawing out the vowel sound, “maybe we should try some less... human-sounding names.” You tilted your head, letting your gaze trail up the tree trunks and up at the sky above. The sun wasn’t shining directly into your eyes this time, and you blinked with surprise to see a puff of white fluff blocking out the light.
“What about,” you offered with a hum, “Cloud?”
You glanced down again, only to see the wolf staring back at you blankly. You couldn’t quite read the look in his eyes, but you had a feeling he wasn’t quite satisfied with this one, either. Lowering your chin, you puffed your cheeks, glancing this way and that across the forest around you. You couldn’t just call him something like Leaf, or Sky—those would be too obvious, too plain for a wolf as lovely as him.
Sighing, you let your eyelids flutter shut, letting the sun wash over your cheeks and warming your skin. He was... special, even if you knew you were biased in your opinion. There was some special quality about him, something that made your chest swell and your heart skip a beat, almost as if he came straight out of a—
“Dream,” you whispered at last.
Clay’s ears perked up at the new name, and he lifted his head, flicking his ears at you. Maybe it was the name itself, maybe it was the way you said it, or maybe it was just you, but something about it just felt right. He barked once, lifting his tail as he stepped toward you.
You blinked at the sight, a small smile tugging at your lips. “Dream?” you repeated. “You like the sound of Dream?”
He barked again, leaping up onto his hind legs for a moment. You grinned, giggling at the sight of such a large wolf acting almost like a dog around you. “Alright,” you murmured, reaching your hand out toward him, “Dream it is.”
Leaning closer to you, he sank into your touch as you rubbed your hand over his head, scratching behind his ears as he let out a soft whine from the back of his throat. Your eyes softened, and you curled your knees a little closer to your chest, resting your chin on them.
“It probably doesn’t matter to you since you’re a wolf and all,” you said softly, your voice almost sounding shy in the quiet of the morning, “but my name is [Y/N].”
Clay felt a tender warmth blossom in the cracks beneath his chest, heat unfurling from the depths of his soul as something inside him swelled beyond belief. Your hand continued stroking his fur all the while, not at all noticing the way he pressed his head a little closer into your soothing touch, yearning and longing for more.
“[Y/N],” his heart sang, shooting from the top of his head to the tips of his toes. “[Y/N], [Y/N], [Y/N].”
Had a name ever sounded as beautiful as yours?
Tumblr media
Sapnap was going to wring Skeppy’s neck. Skipping out on a morning meeting was one thing, but skipping it to hang out with your mate? Not even he did that.
“[Y/N].”
Sapnap didn’t bother flinching as he turned to see Clay standing in front of him, panting like his life depended on it. This was far from the first time this had happened, and he was sure it most certainly would not be the last. “What?”
Clay shook his head, half-looking like he was about to collapse on the spot. “My mate’s name is [Y/N].”
Sapnap blinked, then his lips curled up into a smile. “Congrats for learning what it is, man,” he said honestly, patting Clay’s shoulder with his free hand. “That’s fantastic, really. You’re making progress.”
Clay swallowed, and he reached up to drag a hand down his face before letting it drop loosely at his side. “Sapnap,” he said slowly, his voice sounding quiet and raw, “I don’t know if I can do this anymore.”
Sapnap’s eyebrows knit together, confusion rippling across his features. “What do you mean?” he asked. “You can’t keep visiting?” Something uncomfortable and cold tugged at the back of his mind. “There’s no way you’re just gonna give up like that, are you?”
Clay’s jaw dropped. “What? No! I mean that...” He paused, squeezing his fist for a moment as he sucked in a deep breath. “I don’t think I can keep showing up in only my wolf form.”
The cogs in Sapnap’s whirred to life as he took in his friend’s clenched jaw. Then, his eyes went wide. “Are you saying...?”
Clay nodded, pursing his lips as he swallowed thickly. “I’m going to reveal who I am.”
His eyes flashed with determination.
“Who I really am.”
Tumblr media
You hummed as you twisted the key in the hole, the back door locking shut with a click you had grown used to hearing every week for the past year and a half, now. Whirling around, you could already feel the smile start to spread across your face as you leapt off the porch and ran toward the well-worn path, the forest beckoning you forward with a distant howl. You didn’t remember when exactly your weekly hikes grew to become your favourite part of the week, but you couldn’t imagine life without them, anymore.
Sucking in a deep breath, your chest swelled at the fresh air rushing into your lungs, excitement flickering through your body with every step you took. You couldn’t wait to see Dream again, as strange as it may sound. He had grown to be a greater comfort than you would have ever imagined, even if he was just a wolf. You couldn’t quite put your finger on it, but you knew your feelings were true—you couldn’t deny the warmth he made you feel.
Whipping around a tree trunk, you felt your heart skip a beat. You already knew Dream would be waiting for you at your rock—the one he had saved you from all those weeks ago. It had become a sort of meeting spot for them, and every week without fail, he would appear there, no matter how early or late you were.
As the shrubbery gave way to a clean, dirt trail, you lifted your head, squinting your eyes. You recognized this part of the forest, and you knew that you were getting closer. Just then, you saw it—the familiar streak of grey stone slanting up from the earth in a small cliff face. Usually, Dream would sit at the cliff base, his ears already pointed toward you. But today, your brows furrowed when you didn’t see a pair of ears facing you, but a head of hair.
Someone else was at your rock.
Slowing your pace to a walk, you paused for a moment, eyeing the figure sitting at your usual meeting spot. It was a man, you realized, and he was facing away from you. He wore a simple white shirt with jeans, and his hair was a shade of dirty blond with streaks of gold. Even if only from the back, it looked almost oddly familiar gleaming underneath the morning sun.
Taking a tentative step forward, you curled your fingers into your palm. “Hello?” you called hesitantly.
The man startled for a moment, then turned toward you, his face coming into view. As his gaze locked onto yours, he opened his mouth and uttered two simple words.
“Hi, [Y/N].”
You felt your breath hitch in your throat.
His voice was soft, gently wrapping around you like a soothing blanket. Your gaze only briefly raked over the comforting smile gracing his lips, instead focusing on the gleam in his eyes that danced with something warm and inviting.
His eyes were green—a shade of green that you had grown to know and adore.
No, you thought, your heart trembling in your chest. He couldn’t possibly be...
You took another step forward, closing the space between them by another few inches. With your eyebrows knitting together, your voice dropped to a small, curious whisper. “Dream?”
He shot you a crooked grin, chuckling softly. “That’s my name—or at least the one you gave me.” Leaning forward, he rose to his feet, the sun casting a bright streak of light across his cheeks. “My real name is Clay.”
All of a sudden, you felt as though all the air had been sucked out of your lungs. “Clay,” you repeated, your mind slowly growing murky with confusion, “but you’re also Dream. How...?”
A sheepish look skittered across his face, and he ducked his head. The way he lowered his chin was familiar, looking almost far too like a certain wolf you knew. “I—I guess you could say I live in two worlds with two forms,” he began. “Sometimes I’m a wolf, sometimes I’m a human.” He shrugged nonchalantly, but you didn’t miss the way his shoulders remained tense. “You already know one of them, but I didn’t want to keep hiding this form from you, so...” He gestured to himself with a bashful look. “...here I am.”
You blinked at him slowly, the muddled fog in your head slowly giving way to a strikingly warm clarity. But before the clouds could fully part, your lips began to move.
“You’re still pretty,” you blurted, your eyes going wide as soon as the words left your mouth.
In a flash, Clay’s cheeks flushed crimson, a haze of rosy pink dusting his freckles. “H-Huh?”
Waving your hands in front of you, you took a step back, embarrassment shooting up your spine. “I-I mean to say that you’re still pretty as a human! Because you’re pretty in both of your forms!” You stiffened, exasperation soaking your features as your knees buckled. “Wait, no, oh no, that’s also embarrassing... wait, please, um—”
Suddenly, he began to laugh. You fell quiet as you watched Clay clutch at his stomach, his lips split into a wide grin as peals of laughter tumbled from his lips. A familiar pit of warmth flared up in your stomach, one you had felt standing here with Dream so many times before.
He really was Dream, wasn’t he?
As his chuckles finally died down into silence, he stood upright once more, wiping a barely there tear from his eye. “I’m sorry for laughing,” he managed with an apologetic smile. “You must be confused about, well, everything.”
You offered him an honest, lopsided grin. “A little.”
His smile slowly melted from his features, and he cleared his throat as he turned to face you head-on. “Well, this is probably going to sound weird, but you and I...” He swallowed, his gaze flashing. “We’re mates.”
You blinked, your lips parting in surprise. Something in your chest slowly expanded. “Mates?” you repeated softly.
He nodded, his expression firm yet hesitant. “Yes, mates. It means that in one way or another, our souls are connected.” Inhaling deeply, he screwed his eyes shut before continuing. “It’s a lot to take in, I know, but I just want you to know that you don’t have to accept the mating bond.” His voice was trembling now, growing quieter by the second as he squeezed his hands into fists at his side. “You don’t owe me anything. I know this must be scary for you, and the last thing I want is for you to feel pressured because of m—”
“I’m not afraid.”
Clay’s eyes shot wide open, and he raised his head, shock etched into his features. “You aren’t?” he whispered.
The smile on your face was open and kind, and you shook your head. “No,” you murmured, sincerity lacing your every word. “Not at all. Dream, Clay... no matter what your name is, you’re still you, and I know you.” You took another step forward, your eyes never leaving his. There was hardly any space between them now, and Clay could feel his shoulders begin to shake with the sheer gravity of the moment. “I can’t explain it, but I just know I do.”
He swallowed, a whirlwind of anxiety and affection brewing just beneath the surface of his skin. “You don’t have to do this,” he whispered, his voice cracking. “I know I’m just a stranger to you.”
You shook your head, again. “You’re not,” you said quietly. “Not to me.”
Before he could even register what was happening, you were reaching for his hand, clasping your palms around his fingers and holding them gently. His heart flipped in his chest at the feeling of your skin against his, and something stung at the back of his eyes.
You were so warm.
“I want to do this,” you whispered, just for him to hear and him alone, “I promise. I—” You gulped, your gaze remaining steady. “I might not know anything about your world yet, but I want to learn.”
You squeezed his hand. “I want to learn more about you.”
Clay sucked in a ragged breath. With shaky fingers and a gentle touch, he pressed his other hand to the back of yours, squeezing back ever so slightly. “I want to learn more about you, too.”
The smile you flashed him easily outshone the sun and every star that scattered across the night sky, and for a moment, he thought his heart had stopped in his chest.
“I’m glad,” you said, your eyes gleaming with delight. “I think we’ll have plenty of time to do that on our hike.”
Right then, a breeze came drifting past, the distant scent of rain filling the air. The trees murmured with rustling leaves and flapping wings as two birds landed on a hanging branch above, gazing down at the two silhouettes standing at the base of the rock face. Just for a moment, or maybe even two, the entire forest went still.
And unbeknownst to you and Clay, right between your feet, a flower began to bloom.

Awwww cute cute cute~
FE3H Love Confessions x GN Reader
SFW ~ fluff ~
Dimitri: He's not able to withstand holding in his feelings for very long. The moment he realizes that he's fallen for you (likely needing to be prodded by Ingrid and Sylvain to fully understand it himself), he finds he's completely unable to compose himself around you. He stammers and blushes his way through the most mundane interactions. Finally, it all comes rushing out of him one day. He's been so strange lately that you make a point to visit him in his quarters to privately sort out whatever's going on. But the more you question him, the more he attempts to draw inward, until finally he blurts out, "It's- it's because I am in love with you-" he says it with a look of desperation in his eye, "I'm sorry, I simply cannot bear to keep it from you any longer." Of course, it's so like him to see his own feelings for you as something that would cause you distress- has this foolish man even considered that you could feel every bit as strongly about him? When you tell him as much, he's speechless, and pulls you close with his arms so tight around you that you struggle to breathe.
Claude: He's definitely the type to initiate a bit of a flirtation, perhaps even courting you for some time before busting out the "L word." Claude is open and flippant about signs of affection; he'll unabashedly flatter you about everything- the shine in your eyes, your adorable laugh, dimples, freckles- anything and everything unique about you. Still, he takes so long to make any sort of serious statement of his feelings that you may start to wonder if this whole... thing that you have going on is a mere diversion for him. But Claude knows the moment he realizes he's well and truly fallen for you that he needs to tell you in a way that will make the truth of his intentions clear- no jokes, no cool lines, only the rare and honest truth. To that end, one night he invites you on a stroll around the grounds surrounding the Monastery, eventually leading you to a hill where you can see the sunset to the West- but he turns you to face Eastward beside him, "As soon as we're able, I was hoping... well, that you'd come to Almyra with me," he turns to you and brings one of your hands to his lips, "I love you, Y/N. I want you to see more of where I come from."
Ashe: Ashe knew he was in love with you VERY early on. What caused it to really hit him and take root in his mind though, was a moment when he happened to be re-reading an old knight's tale, and suddenly, the romance between the lead characters feels completely different. Grand gestures and self-sacrifice for the other's sake don't feel nearly as fantastical or exaggerated as they had when he was young. Now, they feel... entirely understandable. He could see himself easily giving any and everything to keep you safe, going to any grandiose lengths to ensure your happiness. But Ashe holds onto this feeling for some time, careful not to ever pressure or overwhelm you- until he eventually finds that same book once more and lends it to you, saying he hopes you like it as much as he did, and to be sure to let him know your thoughts. And once you do read through the tale, you reach the passage where the brave Knight performs a bold soliloquy declaring his love for his fair maiden- but what catches your eye here is a note in Ashe's familiar handwriting: I've struggled to find the words to tell you my feelings for so long, but then I realized that this tale illustrates how dearly I care for you more than anything I could think of. I love you, Y/N, and I swear to protect and cherish you for all of my life.
Sylvain: He doesn't realize his own feelings for quite some time. You'd gotten close to him as friends gradually over time, convincing yourself that you were guarding your heart as carefully as one should around such a notorious flirt. And yet, the mutual attraction and affection grow underneath the surface, despite you both. For a time, he's always by your side, even turning down invitations to tea or dancing in town in favor of spending time with you. Then, he very suddenly starts to grow distant- he spends less and less time with you, and eventually seems to be actively avoiding you in favor of other 'pleasurable company.' You put on a brave face for a little while, but eventually, his cold behavior is too conspicuous to ignore. Surprisingly, you find him alone at the training grounds. The moment he sees you though, he puts on a careful smile and assures you he was just finishing up. As he passes you, you grab onto his sleeve and bluntly ask him why he's acting this way. Naturally, he tries to deflect at first, but things quickly escalate until you've raised you voice, demanding to know what's going on, until he finally faces you and says, "I'm in love with you, okay?? And I'm only going to end up hurting you- so just let me do what's best for you and leave you alone!"
Yuri: Falling for you is something that surprises him more than anything, and causes him to have to rethink a lot about how he'd pictured the rest of his life. The whole of the Abyss seems brighter when you're around, and he comes up with excuses to keep you near time and time again. He's of course every bit as flirty with you as he is with anyone else. In fact, he's careful to make sure that's the case. He won't risk his feelings getting out of hand, or letting slip any information outside of his control. But it becomes harder and harder every day to keep what he feels for you inside, and it's the smallest things that hint at his true feelings- the unusual softness in his voice when he speaks to you, how he goes out of his way to seek out opportunities to touch you. And then, one night he comes back to his quarters quite late from a "meeting"- and the sight of you waiting there for him, clearly worried and relieved to see him back safe- it's too much for his heart to contain. He leans close and places a feather-light kiss to your lips, then murmurs, "I love you, Y/N. I'll always make it home if you're here to welcome me."
Felix: Oh this poor boy. It's going to take something dramatic to get him to confess, and it's likely he doesn't even realize how he feels for you until he hears himself say it. If anything, he's irritated by the way his heart lurches when he sees you, the way his mind strays towards you the moment he fails to keep himself busy. It's an infuriating distraction, and his impulse is to stifle it as much as possible. But then, you're injured or sick one day, and something in him just snaps. He demands to be let into the infirmary to check on you, and he's by your side in an instant. He's so obvious that everyone else clearly knows how he feels for you already, and when it's clear your condition is by no means life threatening, he's left to watch over you alone for a time. Felix wears his concern plainly on his face as he scolds you for not being more careful and not taking care of yourself. That night, as you drift to sleep on your cot, you distantly hear him say, "I won't let anything happen to you ever again. I... I love you... I need you to be okay..."

Aloof GN!Reader w/ Genshin Boys
A/N: Hellooo! Thank you for requesting! You’ll be my first request so I’ll do my best to fulfill everything! I hope everything seems in character, I really need to get used to writing different personality types.
Synopsis: The Genshin boys discover that their s/o is actually softer than they originally thought.
Characters: Albedo, Diluc, Venti, Xingqiu
Genre: Fluff
Warnings: N/A

Albedo definitely didn’t mind you being distant towards him. I mean, he struggles with interactions in general so he just assumed,
“Oh, they must struggle as well.”
He never saw it as an issue between you since he knew deep down that you deeply cared for him.
He knew you’d always come back to him at the end of the day, he fully trusted that fact about you.
Strangely enough, he found you an intriguing person due to this.
Although the citizens in Mondstadt appear to see him in a positive light, there still are many who fear him deep down. After all, he keeps his secrets zipped up inside him. They know absolutely nothing about him or anything he’s capable of.
But you…you didn’t seem to care about that. And he was thankful for that.
And that brings you to today; a bright sunny day with the rays from the sun gleaming down.
The two of you, along with Klee, were outside the walls of Mondstadt, nearby the lake surrounding the city of freedom.
Today, Klee decided to have a little play date with the two of you. While Albedo was painting away, you and Klee were supposed to play around together.
If he’s being honest, Albedo was a little nervous.
You and Klee had never played together before and due to the distant and cold personality he was used to when it came to you, he wasn’t sure how you’d react with being around a bouncy and hyper child such as Klee.
So when Albedo spotted you playing with Klee, a soft smile on your face, he had a mini heart attack.
Not because he was panicking or anything, but more because he wasn’t used to seeing you smile like this. It made his chest feel warm and fuzzy inside.
Later that day, Albedo made sure to comment on the event.
“Well, it appears you two were getting along fondly.”
“You were watching?!”
“Of course I was watching. How could I look away from that fond smile you had on your face?”
“Shut up!”
“It was very cute.”
“I SAID SHUT UP!”
Tumblr media
Diluc and you first met months earlier. You were just another customer at first to him while he was simply a bartender.
Immediately though, he found you interesting.
While his other customers were loud and obnoxious, you would just sit at a table in the corner of Angels Share, minding your own business.
You would only ever speak to ask for another drink, which he would always provide.
“Another glass of apple cider, please.”
He doesn’t know what came over him when he decided he mentally decided to court you. He probably will never know the exact answer either.
It wasn’t the easiest either. Courting you was one of the most difficult things this man has ever done, and somehow he accomplished it in the end.
You were challenging with your distant personality, to say the least. It seemed to him that you wanted absolutely nothing to do with him, that you didn’t see him in the way he saw you.
So when you finally accepted him after weeks, the relief this man felt wash over him in an instant is indescribable.
Now present day, Diluc finds himself heading back to Angels Share in the middle of the night. The moon was directly above him as he silently walked through the city, the only other light source being lanturns.
Due to the drowsiness that he was currently feeling, he thought his eyes were playing tricks on him when he spotted you.
“What in the world are they doing out in the middle of the night?”
But what startled him more than the time on the clock was your facial expression. For the first time, Diluc saw you smile.
Diluc just stood frozen in time as you sat there, rubbing the belly of a stray dog, an empty bowl beside you. He could only assume you’ve been taking care of a stray.
“Who’s a good boy? It’s you, isn’t it!”
“(Y/N)?”
You instantly froze in place, your head creaking towards Diluc’s direction.
“D-Diluc.”
“What in the world are you doing up at this hour?”
“I-I could say the same for you! What are you doing up this late, huh?!”
You shot up from the ground, face beet red.
“I asked you first, love.”
“NOTHING. I WASN’T DOING ANYTHING!”
“That dog below you giving you puppy dog eyes says otherwise-“
“WHATS A DOG??”
Tumblr media
Venti was simply just strumming away at his lyre, the sound alluring the Mondstadt citizens around him as he stood at the foot of the Barbatos statue in the plaza.
His eyes were shut as he too, was preoccupied with listening to the soothing sounds.
When his fingers came slowly to a halt, his aqua green eyes peeked open, the sound of the citizens around him clapping filling his ears.
A smile morphed onto his face.
But soon that smile increased in size. Beyond the crowd surrounding him, he spotted you. You weren't doing anything special, just standing there.
“(Y/N)!”
The bard could hardly control the excitement of you watching him doing what he adored.
Although your facial expression read that of a bored person, Venti didn't seem to mind at all at that moment. Instead, he craved your attention.
Soon enough, the bard stood in front of you, his grin somehow getting wider.
"(Y/N)! Did you enjoy the song?"
"It was nice."
Nice? Only nice? Your facial expression said otherwise. Was the song boring to listen to? Did he mess up a note? Maybe it just wasn't your type of song.
Venti's eyes narrowed in thought, his lips pursed and eyebrows furrowed. He wanted you to say something more than just nice, he wanted you to smile for once due to one of his songs.
That is how you found yourself in this situation. Daily, Venti would find you around Mondstadt, play a song for you, and then wait for your response. He wanted you to say something more than the song was nice without a single hint of emotion before leaving.
But each time, that was your answer and Venti was getting annoyed. Not at you of course, but that he lacked the power to make you smile. He’s the Anemo God, but he can't seem to make his s/o smile.
So the astonishment Venti felt when he glimpsed his eyes over towards you after he played yet another song and saw you smiling ever so slightly, he almost dropped his lyre.
"(Y-Y/N)...are you smiling...?"
"Wait what-"
"I saw it! I saw you smile!"
When I tell you Venti was all over the place, I mean it. He was like a bouncy ball with him bouncing in every direction. But he couldn't control it. The pure bliss he felt in that moment took over all his actions.
"I-I didn't do anything. My face twitched."
"You can't lie to me! I saw it with my own eyes!"
Tumblr media
The relationship between Xingqiu and you happened almost instantly. The two of you went from total strangers to Xingqiu always dragging you on his little adventures.
It all started with just a single sentence;
"Oh, you like Legend of the Shattered Halberd as well?"
Let me tell you, the look on his face when you said that. He always dreamed of having another person he could converse with when it came to books. So, the moment you said that he wasn't about to let you walk away without learning your name and other books you have read.
A friendship sparked between the two of you. He was one of the only people who would constantly talk with you even if you acted distantly. Soon enough, the two of you became a couple.
He wasn't worried about grabbing you from your home and taking you outside on a little adventure after he just finished reading one of his adventure novels. And of course, he'd always have a book with him during this time. You found that cute about him, but you never showed it.
Whenever the two of you would chat about books, Xingqiu was always shocked whenever you told him you haven't read a certain book.
"You're telling me you've never read The Pale Princess and the Six Pygmies?!"
"Never."
That's when he shoved the first volume in your face, an immediate serious expression on his face. Blinking a few times, you accepted the book from him.
"Read it and then tell me how you feel about it. I can give you the other volumes if you enjoy it."
"Okay."
Xingqiu thought you seemed wary at first to read it. He knew you weren't as majorly obsessed with books as he was, so he internally was just preparing for you to end up not reading it.
He didn't mind it though, reading wasn't for everyone after all.
The following day though, he felt the sudden urge to stop by Wanwen Bookhouse. He just wanted to skim some of the books there, maybe purchase one or two.
But those plans immediately ended when he spotted you. You were leaning against the wooden red railings, the book he had let you borrowed flipped open in your hands. And you were a chunk through it already.
Xingqiu could've worn his eyes were bulging out of his eye sockets because the one other thing he saw was the tiny smile located on your face.
You didn't seem to notice Xingqiu before he was standing right in front of you, a huge grin on his face.
"You seem to be enjoying the book I lent you. Would you care for the remaining volumes?"
You almost dropped the book as a shriek left your mouth.
"Where did you come from?!"
"Well, I felt the urge to stop by the bookhouse and saw you. So, about those other volumes..."
There was a moment of silence between the two of you, your cheeks slightly reddish.
"I'll...pick them up later..."

Today's spooky thought is ancient ghost Lan Wangji haunting modern reincarnated Wei Wuxian.
(imported from twt, a threadfic I may actually write fully one day but for now, have this weirdly informal series of sad and silly events)
Rated T, 1.5k, wangxian, past mcd but he’s alive again, no warnings
~
Wei Wuxian never got strong enough to cultivate to immortality, and neither did Lan Wangji, but he couldn't ever quite actually just die either...he just sort of....diminished and went into the w—forest
Anyway modern Wei Wuxian visits said mystical forest and comes home Distinctly Haunted
The weirdest shit keeps happening around his apartment...but none of it seems...especially sinister? It's just freaky. Things ending up in different places than where he left them, things he left on the floor hung up or folded, his leftovers appearing in the fridge instead of out on the counter
Sometimes odder things like a few of the ribbons he uses as cat toys ending up twined together on his pillow. Always one pale and one bright red. That one makes him feel....weird
(Yes there's a cat, let Wei Wuxian have a cat. Kitty loves ghost!HGJ he plays with her when Wei Wuxian is gone)
Anyway I just think, that scene from Ghost but Lan Wangji is guiding his hands to paint one of the talismans he invented, hoping against hope it will help him Remember:
It's his last, greatest attempt. He has been alone and lonely for so long, missing him. And now he has him back...except that he doesn't. Wei Wuxian doesn't even know he's a person, let alone someone who loves him more than the whole of the earth. He pours all of himself into it...
It doesn't work. Wei Wuxian looks at the talisman like he's never seen it before.
Which he hasn't, Lan Wangji knows. This is not his Wei Wuxian. And yet he loves him. He dares to press a kiss to his cheek, a goodbye to his unfounded hopes.
Wei Wuxian shivers and touches his face.
Lan Wangji knows he should not have taken the liberty. He will not do it again. He will content himself to watch over him, to take care of him from the background, from the spaces Wei Wuxian cannot see. He will try to make sure he is happy, in this life.
~
Wei Wuxian's ghost goes suddenly quiet.
Strange little kindnesses keep happening, but the grander, more confusing and unnerving gestures stop entirely after that one bizarre evening.
He tells himself he's relieved.
But the apartment feels...colder. It feels sad.
The fucking ghost he brought home is sad.
And so is he.
And so is his fucking cat.
~
Wei Wuxian is nothing if not determined, when he sets his mind to something.
He sets his mind to figuring out what the ghost was trying to tell him with that weird talisman thing. He dives into research. He spends late nights in libraries, visits other cities to talk to professors.
He becomes an expert in ancient cultivation practices. He gets to the point where he's pretty sure he's losing his grip on reality, but he feels like he's getting closer to answers of some kind, if he can just keep digging.
He finds literary references to cultivation sects, to terrible wars, and some boogeyman-like figure called Yiling Laozu.
The name, the first time he reads it, opens a pit in his stomach.
He closes the book. Opens it again. In that same chapter of that same decaying book,
he finds the outline of the talisman his ghost had helped him draw.
He closes the book again.
Somehow he knows the ghost is not the boogeyman. He knows this. He's never been afraid of his ghost
What he's afraid of is the way his hands hardly needed any guidance at all to draw Yiling Laozu's most famous talisman.
~
That night when he gets home he feels...strange. Unmoored. Disconnected from the world, from his apartment.
When he's putting down his things, the kettle whistles. He looks over—his favorite tea is set out on the counter, waiting.
He collapses onto the couch, only distantly aware that for some reason, he's crying.
A sudden, disembodied breeze rustles through the apartment, agitated.
His cat jumps up from where she's been sleeping and stretches, then saunters over to, uncharacteristically, curl up in his lap.
He cries harder.
Goosebumps rise on the back of his hand, in a clear trail up to his forearm. He knows his ghost is here. Maybe even touching him. The thought makes him shiver.
"Was I..." he feels stupid, talking to no one. "Was I evil? Am I...evil?"
Pressure, then, real pressure on his arm stops his breath. The fact that it's comforting instead of terrifying should probably worry him, but he smiles instead.
"Hey," he says, watery, "you've never done that before. Are you getting stronger again?"
The pressure disappears. That's a no, then. He droops.
"Who was I?" he murmurs.
Perfect, Lan Wangji wants to tell him, you were perfect. You were everything and more. You were the spring breeze, and you were the sun. And you are, still.
But Wei Wuxian can't hear him.
"You want me to know," he's murmuring. "Or...you did. Do you still? What do you want? If only I could—"
He breaks off and jumps up to run into the bathroom. He turns on all the hot water at once and closes the door, then waits.
When the mirror is covered in a thick layer of condensation, he writes in it with a careful fingertip.
What do you want?
He holds his breath, waiting.
For you to be happy, comes the reply.
Faint but clear. Strangely formal and concise, for a ghost. It tugs painfully at Wei Wuxian's heart.
He huffs.
"That's very sweet, but not at all helpful, Lan Zha—"
He breaks off and his heart stops entirely for what feels like a century. Centuries. Countless years. All the air in the room, the steam, everything has gone eerily still.
All at once, he remembers.
~
It goes like this:
Wei Wuxian starts cultivating. It's late in life, but he's done it before, and he's still (or again?) a genius. He can do enough.
Enough for what? Enough to have it all. The moment he remembered, he decided he would have it. This life, and Lan Zhan. All of it, together. He knows can do it.
He just has to figure out how. But that's his strong suit. So they experiment.
Eventually, they figure out a way for Lan Wangji to touch things, and him, more reliably.
It's a beautiful moment of awe and hope.
But then, you know, Lan Wangji sort of can't help himself, and...well, ghost sex.
It just kind of happens? And he's still pretty much invisible, and not actually flesh and blood, so. It's weird. And bittersweet, because really he's just. Getting Wei Wuxian off.
It's still awesome though, if absolutely bizarre. And then it just sort of happens again.
And a few more times. In fact, more and more often as the months wear on and Wei Wuxian still doesn't even know what it is he's trying to do exactly. He just knows Lan Wangji doesn't seem to follow the rules of any fierce ghost or restless spirit he's ever heard of.
He's not resentful. He seems perfectly lucid, even if they still can't speak out loud. So Wei Wuxian decides he must not actually be dead-dead, and therefore can definitely be fully alive again.
But how? He has no idea. Yet.
Time goes on. He tries to do cultivation experiments AND hold his life together. He manages. Lan Wangji takes care of him, silent and invisible.
And then one night during ghost sex time (guys I hate myself help), he gets a little overwhelmed and Does Something. With spiritual energy.
And Lan Wangji feels it. Like. He really feels it. He doesn't have a body and hasn't felt anything in hundreds of years, but somehow, phew boy does he FEEL it.
All the lights on the block flicker out for a good 10 seconds. Wei Wuxian's heart stops. They come back on.
He's actually pretty terrified he's zapped him or something.
"Lan Zhan?"
He gets ready to go into the bathroom and turn on the steamer he bought for communication.
But then...
"Wei Ying."
It's faint, so faint, but it's him, it's him, it's really his voice. Wei Wuxian starts yelling.
When he calms down, he's still not quite sure what he did.
They need to practice.
So they do.
And that's the breakthrough. They figure out how to dual cultivate even though Lan Wangji doesn't have a body, until he starts fading backward into existence. Until he's there for real, his whole self, in the real world, with Wei Wuxian, again.
And they live happily ever after.

Here Without You
Pairing: Soft!Ledger!Joker x Reader
Summary: Your last days have been really bad and exhausting. There are always new problems you have to take care of, you feel tired and burnt out, and on top of that, J hasn't shown up for several days. That was until today.
Word count: 1,344
Genre: probably a bit angsty / fluffy comfort / self-insert
Warnings: Reader has a bad day, low self esteem
Notes: A very big thank you to my dearest best friend @fan-of-pretty-much-2-much for encouraging me to post this fic. What would I do without you, your support and love? I own you so much🥺😭 Also, thank you so incredibly much for this simply beautiful title💜
Well, this fic is a total self-insert😅 I basically wrote it for myself as a comfort. So it's probably too cheesy and my characterization of J is way too soft and ooc. But maybe someone will like it anyway, I don't know. So read at your own risk lol🙈 Also, the text is unedited and English is not my first language, so I apologize for any mistakes.

It had been days now since you last saw your clown. News reports were your only clues as to his whereabouts and well-being. You didn't blame him, he was a busy man - a free man who came and went as he pleased - and you wouldn't keep him from his business. Even though, if you were honest, you would love to not let him leave your apartment ever again, and instead keep him with you where you knew he was safe; not that he couldn't take care of himself.
But you missed him terribly. And on top of that, your doubts and insecurities were getting worse with each passing day. You probably weren't good enough for him, too boring and annoying with all your worries. Would he ever come back to you? Was he tired of you? Had you perhaps upset him without knowing it?
And today... Today was a particularly bad day. Already early in the morning the day had started with bad news, new things you had to take care of. Problems kept coming up, there just seemed to be no end in sight. Once you had taken care of one thing, two new things popped up. You felt overwhelmed, burned out and tired. You longed for a break. You longed for him.
A familiar noise. But you only heard it very distantly. You were far too lost in your sad and gloomy thoughts. You sat on your bed and stared at the wall. Your eyes hurt because you tried to hold back your tears as hard as you could, even though you knew it was wrong. But you wanted to stay strong, not show any weakness.
The noise came closer, heavy footsteps. The door to your room cracked open and a face painted with makeup peered in, looking for you. When J spotted you, he grinned mischievously. But his good mood soon changed when he saw you in this miserable state. He immediately noticed that something was wrong, even if he didn't quite know what it was yet. So he entered your room without waiting for you to give him your permission. And even when J stood right in front of you and looked at you with his beautiful dark eyes, which actually showed a hint of concern, you hardly reacted, which admittedly only worried him more. Because you normally ran up to him at the first sign of his presence. But today was... different. And he didn't like it at all.
"What's the matter, toots, hm? I'm back, I'm here."
You stared at him, but you couldn't see him. You hadn't quite realized yet that he was truly standing in front of you. It seemed more like your mind was playing a trick on you - an evil trick to torture you even more. "I'm so sorry, J," you finally uttered. It wasn't so much directed at him as you were talking to yourself.
"You're sorry for what?" He frowned thoughtfully. He couldn't remember anything you had done that you needed to apologize for. But it wasn't a surprise that you apologized in the first place. You apologized for the smallest things, sometimes even for apologizing. But this time, he was a little bit confused.
"I don't know. That I annoyed you with... with me being the way I am. I don't know, okay?!" That was the moment you snapped back to reality. You saw him. Standing in front of you, in his usual slightly bent posture, his head tilted to one side as he tried to figure things out. And that's when you couldn't hold back your tears any longer.
Intuitively, J leaned down towards you and reached out to cup your face with his gloved hands. But you flinched away from him, too ashamed and insecure. "No, J. Don't!"
But he didn't let that stop him. Even though you had said the exact opposite, he could tell by the look in your eyes how much you wanted him. And it caused a strange feeling to rise in his chest - he wasn't sure what to think of it, so he just shrugged it off and focused all of his attention back on you. He sat down next to you, wrapped his arms around your body that was trembling with tension, and gently pulled you to him. This time you let it happen; the second he touched you, you were like putty in his hands. Moments later you found yourself on his lap and you couldn't help but cling to him as tightly as you could, your tear-streaked face buried in his broad chest, inhaling his scent between heavy sobs - a mixture of burnt rubber, gasoline and sweat (he had been out there for days, of course, he hadn't had time to worry about such trivialities) and something so specifically J that your heart ached. Oh, how much you had missed him. All you wanted and needed was him. Your J. It was kind of ironic. While others ran away from him in sheer panic, you longed for him. You had never been like others, you saw so much more in him than just a criminal. To you, he was your charming, sometimes pretty grumpy, but still in his own special way caring and loving clown - but you better not say this out loud. You just loved him. This realization hit you so hard that a new wave of emotions washed over you.
"Shush. I'm here, I gotcha." He shifted beneath you, loosening his grip around you, causing you to sigh in frustration. Rustling of expensive material and then suddenly you felt all warm - he had wrapped you in his royal purple coat and then put his arms around you again like a vice. You were in the warmest, safest embrace you could ever think of. Immediately, your body relaxed, your trembling finally subsided. You listened to his steady heartbeat and mimicked his breathing. J hummed and smiled to himself as he noticed your reaction.
When you finally felt calm enough, you lifted your face off of him so you could look at him; your eyes were bloodshot and dark rings stood out beneath them. He hated to see you like this, but he said nothing; he waited until you were ready to talk. And you were ready. You took a deep breath and finally murmured, "Today was just a shitty day. There's so much to do and it seems to never get any less. Everything is too much. And I... I missed you so much... I thought you weren't coming back."
"But here I am, right?" He squeezed you a little tighter to put emphasis on his words. "I know you've got a lot going on right now. But ya got this, toots. You're tougher than you think you are. Aaand..." A huge and devious grin formed on his lips. You could literally see him thinking about all the things he had done in the past few days. "I need to lay a little low for the next few days."
"Yeah, I picked up something like this on the news. What is it this time?" You're no longer able to suppress a weak giggle. And a yawn. You were so very tired and exhausted, you hadn't slept well since J left, when he wasn't by your side. But now that you were cocooned in his protective warmth... Your eyes grew heavier and heavier. "So does this mean you're staying home, J?"
"I'm not going anywhere, sweets." He moved you both on the bed until you were in a lying position, you still on top of him wrapped in his coat. Even though he would never admit it, he had missed you too. And holding you in his arms like that - feeling you, knowing you were safe and relaxed - made him aware of his own exhaustion. He pressed a sloppy kiss to your forehead, leaving a beautiful reminder for you when you woke up in the morning, and then closed his eyes himself.
