OT 1 & 2 headcanons? Doesn't have to be about the main parties, whatever goes.

ok ok here we go, gonna use yours as the OT2 HC ask bestie

gonna throw up here an OT2 spoilers warning cuz of endgame stuff

First some throné ones because i have throné on the brain.

first off i think after her story is over she never wears a necklace like basically ever again. she does love dressing up, feeling cute, but no matter how well a necklace would go with her outfit she won’t add one. it’s just part of her newfound freedom that she can choose never to have anything around her neck like that ever again. all other jewelry tho… she’s got a lot of options to pick from for earrings, bracelets, and rings etc (that she’s most certainly not paid for)

also, i feel like Hikari and Throné, after everything with vide coming to the conclusion that they are actually distantly related to each other, have some kind of exchange where it’s like. “ok wait so im your like great great how many greats aunt or something” uhhh like a couple times removed or whatever. and at first its like weird to think about but they both have such like. idk. throne found out that her family was actually huge and extensive, and all of them were killing each other. her biological father is a monster. she was born to be a monster herself. her relationship with the concept of “family” is extremely strange; the man she considered closest to her actual father was a horribly abusive person but despite all that she was the closest thing he had, and he was her half-brother. Hikari’s family has a curse upon it directly related to being descended from D’arquest, and it’s been nothing but pain for him as well, causing him to lose control of himself, constantly worried he’ll hurt the people he cares about. his brother was a monster in a whole different way, and his dad, while appointing him rightful successor, spent most of his life as a warmonger as well. His mother is dead. his brother and father are dead. he’s lost ritsu, who at one point was like a brother to him. his own relationship with the idea of his family is not… good, in any case. i think they come to find some sort of solace in each other in that, after realizing they’re actually related. they’ve already come to travel with each other and trust each other… i like to think they decide they should just hand wave all the technicalities of how distantly they’re related and how weird the family tree would look and just go with a catch all “we’re cousins” or something.

Castti, while getting her memories back about what happened immediately prior to the events of the game, still struggles with remembering most of her life. it’s not something she really fully recovers from. she never remembers the faces of her parents, or if she had any siblings, her childhood, things like that. sometimes when she gets a flash of something, a glimmer of a skill she had no idea she was well-practiced in, or a remembered fact she can’t recall where she read it, she still finds herself troubled. she basically has to re-invent herself. still, she gets by with a quiet determination to always do right, with the knowledge that she at the very least, knows who she is now, in the present.

Post game partitio starts picking up the guitar. i like to think once he gets good enough he records a song with agnea for the gramophone :P. also, temenos used to play the piano, but he’s out of practice (that one cleric in flamechurch is much better and actually wants to play it much more). he could pick it up again tho with a little practice

oh also ochette is a chronic unpeeled fruit mucher. she’ll just straight up bite into an orange and be like. “i see why some people don’t like the crust but i don’t mind it.” castti and osvald tails gets trolled face

hehe i got two asks about headcanons so im gonna make yours an OT1 post and the other one an OT2 post….

Ok for OT1 here’s a random list of

Alfyn is genuinely a very good artist, he’s spent a lot of time practicing (at first just trying to emulate drawings of medicinal plants working on his ability to understand and identity them) but it ended up just becoming a hobby of his, and he’s pretty good at drawing from life, he can just sit somewhere and draw the scene in front of him or a pretty accurate portrait. this contrasts with his completely illegible handwriting. (tressa specifically finds this baffling as a neat handwriting haver and a…. decent-ish artist. she mostly just likes to doodle. she’s like how can you draw that good and write that bad. tressa they’re different brain areas alright. they don’t translate to each other)

ok. nonbinary tressa. is so real to me. i feel like she’s nonbinary in the way where she doesn’t care about the way she’s gendered, like whatever cis passing she just doesn’t give a fuck, but inwardly she’s like. gender i hardly know her. doesn’t give a fuck kind of thing (ME PROJECTING ALERT) but as she gets older she starts to just have a tendency towards more masculine ways of dressing, keeping her hair shorter, etc. light androgyny. it kind of isn’t at the forefront of her mind tho.

Therion has like, a select few party-trickish skills that he basically never pulls out because they’re objectively useless in a fight or his work or whatever. and you know. he hasn’t really had the opportunity (or outward desire) to like. ever pull out the fact he can juggle or “is this your card” some shit. this is part of the two wolves inside therion (the nobody look at me wolf) vs (the show-off wolf) so even he’s like i don’t even know why the hell i bothered to learn to do this kind of crap. (it’s because he’s got a theatrical streak.)

ok and also i was also thinking abt this a while back from the worst poker game post, but here’s a ranking of how good i think everyone is

1. Therion (cheats, but even when he doesn’t he’s really good)

2. Olberic (experienced player)

3. H’aanit (really good poker face)

4. Ophilia (often underestimated opponent, and she knows it and uses this to her advantage.)

5. Primrose (good but not great)

6. Cyrus (understands all the strategies, but cannot execute and often isn’t able to read his opponents as well)

7. Alfyn (he’s better at reading other people, but unfortunately is basically incapable of looking neutral himself)

8. Tressa (though she, like cyrus, understands the game and what she should be doing, she lacks the experience to be deceptive, is easy to cheat against, etc. but give her some time and eventually she’ll figure it out and rise in the ranks. she can be molded into a champion eventually and win all the money. just not yet.

what crossed paths do you like the most?

temenos and throne, (extremely terrible ENG audio mixing aside). idk, i think they just have the most fun dynamic with each other and the first time around i was like damn, what really is up with this mirror shard tho. i think second place would have to go to castti and ochette? you get those fights for those ones so it sticks out to me more

progress! now it’s just a matter of glossing the eyes, i decided to forgo the extra blush and freckles for now, i can always go back and do those later (i don’t have any chalk pastels, and now im thinking maybe it might get a little busy especially if i end up putting stickers on her)

should hopefully have her freed from the plastic and all dressed up again tomorrow :P

who was your first character you played as for your first playthrough, and do you tend to replay as them or as different characters?

Therion was my first, and that’s because i basically got choice paralysis looking at that first screen and just had a friend of mine tell me who to pick.

Now that i have a really good grasp on how to play the game, I’ve never started the game with the same character, if im remembering correctly, though, i’ve had files where my starters in OT1 were Therion, Alfyn, H’aanit, and Tressa. (the h’aanit file remains unfinished but. lol)

now whenever i recommend people someone to start with in OT1, i stand by the Therion recommendation. his first chapter isn’t too difficult, steal is an extremely useful path action to always have, and you’ll never get mad at not being able to get the purple chests.

as for OT2, im only on my second playthrough, but again i don’t like starting with the same guy. so. my first run i picked Castti (because i like alfyn and was like. you know what apothecary represent, and i couldn’t think of any better reasons to make a decision) and my second run i was also like damn who should i pick, before my roommate said and i quote “pick the gayest one” (and i already picked castti, so i had to go temenos)

i don’t have a recommendation for starting with Ot2 because of the way they changed the ch1s to all be solo so there is no random more difficult ones like ophilias and primroses lol

i also like having different parties and different subclass combos every single time, just to keep things as fun and fresh as possible. though, sometimes you end up with some interesting class combos. but that’s the best part because you get to see how well you can make literally everything work in these games

any unusual class combos you're a fan of?

ok i really like theif/cleric, which i think is a little bit of an usual one. i actually ran both temenos and throné in 2 as theif/cleric for the final chapter, because its just a really great supportive option with the opposing to dish out some big aebers. a fun all around set of tools. (though throne was hitting more aebers and temenos was hitting more shackles/corrosives)

i haven’t done a run in OT1 where i ran theif/cleric as the combo i mainly stick to for either therion or ophilia in 1, (though i have classes therion cleric for like. temporary fights where having reflect and heal is very useful (sorc fight lol) but i can also see ophilia’s SP hungry ass working nicely with steal sp…. fun class combo.

Fave inquire / scrutinize stories?

god i don’t remember nearly all of the funny shit i’ve found but it’s probably the thieves guild stuff in clockbank, you just start scrutinizing and then literally like everyone and their grandma is a master thief, and then there’s just. the one oblivious ass guard that got me so fucking bad. i literally made a like. fucking. this when i found it it was so goddamn funny

I think Alfyn is neat and I wish more people would explore his motivations and emotions outside of his c3 and ships! I think he probably has a lot of unresolved issues around the fact that of all of the parent figures and role models he's had that we know of, every single one of them is dead

no you are so fucking totally right because. (OK OT1 H’aanit ch4 spoilers for those following me who haven’t played and want to you have been warned) ok you know what this is the perfect fucking opportunity to talk about. the fact that because ot1 is my favorite bad game ever and doesn’t have any kind of travel banters surrounding galdera ar anything we never get ANY kind of commentary on the fact that Redeye is Graham Crossford. he also doesn’t ever talk to tressa after she finds out that he’s the author of her diary. i feel like it’s such a missed opportunity… like, this guy basically decided the trajectory of Alfyn’s life and Tressa HAS AN ACCOUNT of more of the shit he’s done. and then like, Alfyn potentially had a hand in personally being one of the people to put Redeye down (and he should be there, fuck you full party unconsciousness we sealticge + rehabilitate) to which he would not find out that that was literally the man who saved his life until the gate of finis which has to be. literally probably the most devastating thing he could possibly find out. i mean, like obviously he was too far gone to be saved but it’s alfyn, you know there’s a part of him that’s like but really, did it have to be like that? he was a person, once, and you know. there’s magic. miracle medicine. it’s the kind of dawning horror that gives you nightmares for the rest of your life, and that’s after the nightmares you’d get just from looking at redeye. not to mention the fact that garham was still at the very least, a sliver of an amount present enough to write a “kill me” message in marsalim. like hoooooooly shit this would weigh on Alfyn so much worse than anyone else. and then like, we know from his ch3 to his ch4 like… this stuff weighs on him. just because he did the best he could with the information he had at the time doesn’t mean it’s going to not affect him, even post-arc more assured alfyn. like ultimately he would come to the conclusion that he really did end up doing the right thing, but still. like you said, he’s lost his parents, his hero, just like. it’s a lot. i think in summary holy shit Alfyn man we gotta get you a therapist.

If you could combine characters from Octopath I and II, who would you make a party out of?

ok im gonna tackle this gameplay wise, because i think basically any combination of travelers i could have fun with from a dynamic standpoint

Alfyn gets an automatic in for being my favorite guy ever

i think then id take…. Throné. because she is awesomer than therion and has the epic latent (i understand that every ot2 character gets the benefit of a latent but. in the interest of fairness i will be combining 2 and 2 from each game)

I think then I’d take tressa because runelord tressa stays the best, the brokenest, and the most iconic

then im seeing this party is missing the pure big numbers guy, ill take ochette. because i love ochette and she’s genuinely like the best gameplay wise to

then if i was gonna subclass id do something like

Alfyn-Dancer (need sealticge access in every team or i will die)

Throne - scholar (alfyn can handle aoe heals two different ways without needing a cleric which would be my second choice, so i think i’d give this team aoe spells to break stuff)

Tressa -runelord (self explanatory)

Ochette - Warrior or armsmaster. literally just give her more weapons and damage to hit with. fuck it we lionheart axe on the hunt *kills you*
