When it comes to sensory issues in autism I really wished that more people talked abt being sensory seeking/hyposensitivity since it seems that it's mostly sensory avoidance and being hypersensitive to sensory input being talked abt.
I'm both sensory seeking and avoidant both hypersensitive and hyposensitive however I lean more onto that sensory seeking side. And seeing it rarely talked abt made me feel so disconnected from other fellow autistics tbh
I wish more ppl talked abt things like:
-abt the feeling abt being understimulated because you do not have that sensory input you need
-constantly listening to music /needing background noise in order to fulfill said desired sensory input and feeling like ur going insane without it and liking noise
-liking to touch things/being touched (like liking hugs a lot for example, that's something that helps me with sensory input a lot)
-often chewing on things(tho that is something I see getting talked a bit more!!)
Etc!!

Autism culture is feeling like you're horrible because you're extremely hypersensitive w/ emotions and that leads you to having anger issues 🥲 like I don't wanna be angry like that but I can't fucking help it.

There should be a horror movie where a neurodivergent person who’s hypersensitive to noise kills a bunch of people for making noise. It could be called ‘SHUT THE FUCK UP’

Ayoo I have ADD/ADHD and I notice any amount of lasting pain easily puts me in sensory overload.
I have audio sensitivity and I notice my reaction is the same as with sound exhaustion.
Is that the same for you? Info on sensory overload/overstimulation under the cut
Overstimulation, or sensory overload, is when your senses are just completely overloaded with information/sygnals, making it difficult (or sometimes near impossible) to fully process the information you are receiving. It can be caused by just one sense, or several, sometimes at once. Sometimes overload of one type of sense causes sensitivity to all others as well
Some symptoms include:
Inability to ignore loud sounds, strong smells, or other sensory information. For example, when there’s a siren outside, you may jump or clasp your hands over your ears.
A loss of focus
Feeling overwhelmed, agitated, irritable
Feelings of anxiety (restlessness, uncontrollable worry, negative thoughts in a cycle)
A general sense of discomfort
Extreme sensitivity to certain types of textures or clothing
Difficulties with sleeping
For me, nervousness and irritability are especially present. I tend to overreact to any stimulus when overwhelmed
For some, overstimulation happens gradually, even without realising it’s happening. And for others, it can happen all at once all of a sudden.

Why does M choose to work a job which will likely cause them to face physical pain through fighting when their hypersensitivity makes even touch too painful for them? I understand that they now feel a loyalty to the rest of the unit, but before they joined them and got to know them better wouldn't they just have wanted to leave?
I suppose they figure it's better than sitting around doing nothing. Their hypersensitivity is a part of them, and whether they do something or not, it's always gonna suck! So better to be doing something active to help take their mind off it.
Plus, you know, I really needed them there for the story...so they had no choice, lol! :D
Thank you so much for the ask! :)

hey have you got that thing when you see a lump of animated crying pixels, it gives you instant heartache and you're like 'oh no' and just drop everything and start running around searching for a solution to soothe this particular line of coding; because i do and so for well over an hour now i have been hunting foraging digging smashing things all over Cozy Grove to find right amount of pecan nuts to produce enough nut flour to bake a heart-shaped cake this poor imp sniffle-sniffles for

Sometimes we can become hypervigilant to our own bodily experience. And instead of being disconnected from our body, we become hyper-connected and hypersensitive to every little thing we feel in our body, making our own body feel like an unsafe place.
Hypervigilance, hyper-awareness and hypersensitivity to our own body happens when we learn to believe that our own organism is not a safe place.
Many that experience this internal hypervigilance also experience chronic symptoms like pain or migraines. We develop anxiety and panic around our sensations, our feelings, our thoughts and nearly every internal, physical and emotional experience we have. We learn to look for any cue of a threat about to happen, and in this case our body and our sensations become that threat.
We often talk about noticing our body, re-inhabiting our body, and tracking our sensations (which are all incredibly important), and sometimes, for some of us, it’s first about coming out of our body and into our environment, into connection and into other sources of safety. It’s about orienting to goodness, and comfort and support and finding points of connection that allow ourselves a break from our internal hypervigilance.
One of the most foundational and simple ways we can begin practicing this is through simple sensory orienting to our external environment.
Instead of engaging our senses to our internal state, noticing what it is that we see around us, pausing to listen to what we can hear in our environment, relishing in the goodness of a tasty meal, or feeling a soft cozy blanket. Engaging our awareness to comfort and connection outside of our body can ultimately bring us safely back into our body over time.

Ok so when we talk about hypersensitivity and autism I feel like we don't mention this enough : temperature. I cannot handle cold at all, I will scream and cry and enter despair so fast if it's too cold for me. Make me too cold and I'm very likely to meltdown.

I think that every major website with a dedicated app (Pinterest, Amazon, Walmart Newegg, etc.) that has a white and/or light colored background should, by default come with a dark mode option for health, accessibility, and battery saving reasons; and if they don't currently offer one, they should be penalized in some way until they do
This post has been brought to you by the Tired of Having Apps Stab My Brain Through My Eyeballs Even Though I Already Utilized Every Accessibility Tool at My Disposal gang
