I'm also Hmong!!! I don't really say it much bc not a lot of people know of us 😭😭😭 I grew up with both of my parents families but I'm trying to learn our culture so I can't speak hmong. I know a bit but I can't speak it.
But it's alright if you don't know the culture, I even don't know it 😓😓😓 we just gotta learn though!!
Here’s a short basic context or info about Hmong people though:
Hmong people are an Asian ethic group in East and Southeast Asia. We are found in many different countries!! Examples like Vietnam, Laos, Thailand, China, and America!!! (There’s probably others in other countries too).
AND HERE'S MY TWEEL HMONG HCS!!! (BTW these are based on my experiences as a Hmong American person and also this will have explanations about our culture which will be highlighted in blue.)
PHYSICAL APPEARANCE:
- Jade and Floyd are slightly tanner because not all Asians are pale white 💀💀💀 jk but I think they're the types to get easily tanned in the sun (and Azul gets sunburnt)
- They have a few freckles/marks/(DOTS?? HOW TF DO YOU DESCRIBE THOSE?? BEAUTY MARKS WTF??) on their face. Yall never seen me draw them bc um.... I drew these like.. today HELPP
- Jade also has the string bracelet on his wrist. They're like the things that keep your soul with you and they keep you from getting sick and bad luck/spirits (I MEAN THATS HOW MY MOM EXPLAINS IT LMAOO. I remember my grandparents would tie one on my wrist and speak in another language. I don't remember if it was Thai or Chinese.)
Examples of it:
- I used to draw Floyd with it because I thought that since he seems like the type to get noticeably more in trouble than Jade (because he's discreet) and his grandma would be worried for him so she would tie that to his wrist so he wouldn't get more in trouble (bc some older generations think that sometimes the things you do or that you're sick is because your soul has been flying away?? Or that your soul has been taken. Its nothing bad. It's just something cultural and in their religion of Hmong people.) But I feel like he would get annoyed and cut it off later LMAOO
- (Tais means Grandma on mom’s side) So Jade has it but you can't see it with his gloves and long sleeves in the way.
- There's not much to say about their appearances 😭😭😭
SOME HMONG HEADCANONS OF THEM:
- Jade knows the Hmong language and how to speak it but Floyd doesn't but he knows some of it (I'M PROJECTING. I'M PROJECTING SOOO BAD.)
- I think Floyd doesn't really put the effort on learning because "everyone else speaks English (in my universe 😓😓😓 idk)" so he doesn't really bother learning how to speak it but he does know some words.
- He uses a lot of context clues to understand like if he knows some words of the sentence, he'll respond but if there's words he DOESN'T know, he'll be like "huh? Gucci pow.... (<- BAD PRONUNCIATION OF HMONG WORDS)"
- Jade knows Hmong and English so this mf is bilingual.
- Sometimes he would whisper stuff in Hmong to Floyd and THEY BOTH WOULD GIGGLE BC THEY'RE MAKING FUN OF SOMEONE 😭😭😭 AND YOU WOULDN'T UNDERSTAND (UNLESS YOU DO) SO NOW YOU'RE SCARED IF THEY'RE TALKING ABOUT YOUUUU
- Or there's no giggling because Floyd doesn't understand so all you hear is a "huh?" And Jade says nevermind, LEAVING FLOYD CONFUSED AND ANGRY.
- Their mom speaks both Hmong and English while their dad only knows Hmong but is trying to know English (because it's better for business but I feel like he'll have other people speak for him).
- I like to think that Floyd doesn't really wanna speak to his dad than his mom is because of the language barrier. It's hard to speak to eachother with limited words (i know by experience 😞😞😞). It's genuinely sad but they both try their hardest to understand eachother.
- Jade and Floyd like to share Azul some of their foods in their culture (THEY STILL HAVE THEIR CANON FAVORITE FOODS. Also i still dont know how the fuck they cook their food in the sea. I know they eat raw food like Jade said BUT MR. ASHENGROTTO SAID HIS MOMMY OWNS A RESTAURANT AND AZUL KNOWS HOW TO COOK???)
- Like Naab Vaam, Pho, and stuff (some of our food are actually from other countries that we live in/came from like Vietnam, Laos, Thailand, and etc. We just put our own spin on them so they may or may not taste the same as their origin.)
- I don't think in the sea they wear clothes but Jade and Floyd found some Hmong clothes on the surface and found it cool.
- I don’t actually know their exact type of Hmong clothes they wear though. (Hmong people have different types of clothing depending on who you are and where you’re from. It’s very important to know which one you are. Also there’s 2 different dialects of Hmong and probably MORE?? idk……)
- I drew them wearing Hmong clothes that my family wears though:

- (Also the necklaces hanging on their necks are silver necklaces. THEY’RE SO FUCKING HEAVY. MY MOM HAS A REAL SILVER ONE AND GOD DAMN. THEY GIVE YOU SO MUCH NECK PAIN. But they represent our wealth 😞😞😞. Good thing they recently made ones without real silver. Also there’s Hmong clothes with silver coins on them and they also represent wealth!! They hurt less!!)
- Hopefully I can recreate the Tweels in Hmong clothes in better art!! I CAN BARELY SEE THIS ONE.
I think I’m done for now. I was hoping to say more but I don’t have any more 😭😭😭😭 But I hope you find these somehow a bit interesting and helpful about Hmong culture. I was really excited to tell someone my Tweel Hmong HCs because hkuahfjdkshfjkahj I DON’T KNOW I JUST GET HAPPY!! I love sharing my culture even if I’m still learning it. Not a lot of people know about us because we don’t have a country. But im really happy to meet other Hmong people on here and share the representation!!

Never Fall, Never Rise
An AU where XL didn't ascend...but that doesn't mean everything is okay
Cults spring up convinced he's a god even though he isn't, leaving the awkward situation where his father can either anger the Heavens or the rapidly growing population of people who worship his son...(spoiler: he chooses the people)
XL ends up being constantly in danger of people trying to "prove" his divinity.

Characters all living at the same time for the fun of it (also I wanted SQX and the Xianle Trio interactions) and worldbuilding to fit
HC growing up and not dying (also finding a way to circumvent his fate and becoming immortal adjacent) (obviously he joins the baby cults for a bit before leaving)
Examinations of characters' families whether mentioned or not (including HX and FX and to a degree HC's as well)
Rivals to lovers Fengqing
XL & QYZ friendship (and salty AF QR)
HC getting what he deserves~ (he gotta work for it though)
Hualian together (like around each other, not romantically) pretty much since the Land of the Tender incident
HC living a double life since he's about 16 lol (one as Wu Ming, the loyal bodyguard and brat and the other as Lord Hua, the self made city master who everyone is afraid of)
HC using magic as a human (mostly glamours for himself and E-ming but occasionally making magical items like his dice as well)
JL is FX's legal concubine (for her own protection, he didn't want to take one) and Cuocuo gets to live and grow
No one dying unnecessarily (that doesn't mean no one suffers...)
And much more!!
However: I should warn you that this is an Omegaverse au (it wasn't supposed to be but it ended up making the most sense for ONE THING and the worldbuilding got away from me.)

ngl I do feel some kind if way about white TGCF fans making replicas of Hua Cheng's necklace to sell.... (if you don't know, HC is kind of Hmong coded and the necklace is a major part of that)

You asked about Phoenix, so here are some hcs I had for them and Shiloh. This got way longer than I expected. I'm so sorry that I keep sending you mammoth sized essays. 😂
Some facts about phoenix ortega
they were originally born in Buenos Aires, Argentina but moved to London when they were quite young (around 4 or 5 maybe).
they grew up near the soho area in London and they took up a part time job in a Hmong-Chinese restaurant, so they picked up some conversational mandarin there which they sometimes practice with shiloh.
at first phoenix didn't like Shiloh at all. they have a bunch of trust issues so they were a bit suspicious about shiloh's friendliness. they think people only act nicely when they want something from them always want something from them, that's how they thought life works kind of like a business transaction, the gang and being betrayed by one of the people closest to them taught them that.
phoenix is an ENTJ/INTJ, so sometimes they can come off across as cold and rude. They pretend to be cold and heartless, but on the inside they're just a broken person who yearns for the love that they were never really given by their parents.
Shiloh and Phoenix's friendship started off as a business relationship, which lowkey- turned into a one-sided rivalry which phoenix used as an excuse to spend more time with shiloh because of Mei lmao (would often have to go to shiloh's home for meetings and stuff like that idk 😂). Phoenix has a huge soft spot for dogs which they'll never admit to anyone. Shiloh often teased Phoenix about them being a completely different person as soon as Mei was in view. Phoenix would get flustered and dismiss the teasing by telling shiloh that he's just spewing bullshit like always.
Shiloh was also a bit reluctant about Phoenix due to their reputation but the more he got to know Phoenix the more he wanted to spend time with them. I guess he was rather curious and wanted to see what was hidden behind the walls that Phoenix constantly puts up.
After Tej's betrayal Phoenix didn't show up for some of the meetings and no one could get a hold of them and so since Shiloh was the only person that they knew Phoenix was close to they sent him to find them. After stopping at Phoenix's apartment, shiloh knocked for a while but there was no answer, but after a while Phoenix opened the door. They were wrapped around a blanket with a Hello Kitty mug filled with wine on one hand and a greggs sausage roll on the other. 💀
Love Island was playing in the background and they just sat in silence for a while (yes phoenix watches love Island, they keep up with every single episode 😭). Phoenix was in a coocon in the sofa and didn't want to get up. Shiloh suggested they go for a late night drive to the beach. Phoenix at first said no, but shiloh managed to make them accept after saying that they'll take mei along.
It was late at night,they drove in silence. They got to the beach and it was dark, they just sat and watched the stars. Their backs were back to each other because Phoenix didn't want to be seen being so vulnerable, they hate that part of themselves and didn't want shiloh to see it. Phoenix finally turned around just hugged Shiloh out of nowhere. Shiloh was so taken aback he almost fell back. He put his arms around Phoenix and rubbed their back telling them thatevrythings gonna be ok. Phoenix really needed to hear that because they completely broke down.
After that Phoenix fell asleep. Shiloh didn't want to wake them up and phoenix sleeps like a log, not even a fire alarm can wake this bitch up. 💀so they essentially carried them back to the car and drove them home.
The next day Phoenix woke up like "Oh fuck no what the fuck did my drunkass do? 💀". They were really flustered and embarrassed but they still wanted to thank shiloh for that day. They were at shiloh's door but they chickened the fuck out after knocking. Shiloh opens the door to find a giant packet of Meis favourite dog snacks with a note attached to it with Phoenix's shitty handwriting that just had a smiley face on it " :))".
After that they quickly became friends. Phoenix was not used to someone being so kind to them without wanting anything in return like Shiloh, but they didn't particularly mind it. 👀. Forward to the present, Phoenix is a big Shiloh simp, they fell for Shiloh's personality, their little quirks, their teasing, the late night drives, the late into the night chats, his smile. Before they knew it they had fallen head over heels for Shiloh and erm... they become a hot mess when Shiloh flirts with them. Phoenix. exe just stops working, they're such a shy goof all honestly. 😭😭
One last fact. Ever since becoming friends with Shiloh they've been teaching themselves some Cantonese and brushing up a bit on their conversational mandarin they had learned in high school. Hmmm I wonder why? 🤔😂😂

- robin knows many many languages! including many of the strawhats native languages so they get the sense she's always listening
- ace, sanji, usopp and franky are trans men! sanji is deeply deeply repressed about it and usopp is gently trying to get him out of his shell about it. meeting ace & franky (who you'd imagine would be very flashy about it) helped a lot
- robin is a trans woman & vivi is a trans girl
- usopp & sanji & robin are bisexual, nami is a lesbian, zoro is gay and franky is a straight guy whose DEFINITELY slept with men "why live life with a hand tied behind your back?"

I don't think mxtx said anything specific about them (never saw anything, at least), it just seems to be ppl going off with their minds in the gutter because of FX and MQ's extreme reactions (they are FX and MQ...). At least, when I looked it up, in serious discussions everyone was pretty sure that it was the LoT, it's only horny stans on twt who claim otherwise. Self-insert porn makes 0 sense considering that we were told by XL how HC depicted himself on the murals as ugly and deformed??? But ppl love to reduce him to horny a lot when we don't see much of that in the novel... It's like with his password for the communication array, so many ppl are convinced it's smth dirty but that makes no sense??? Since Jun Wu heard it and found it amusing, and Yin Yu and He Xuan use it, too. (It's more likely smth very corny or just extremely silly.)
Also, yes!!! I was excited that the extras might delve more into HC and just them actually working through issues (a pov change or change in character focus would've been SO interesting too) but :/ I didn't even read any aside from the birthday one because they didn't pique my interest at all. Wasted opportunity, honestly. [On that note, I don't know if you read fics, but there's this one where HC's devotion is stolen and he can't remember XL, and it bothers him so much how his whole existence revolves around XL and he finds out that he'd like to have things outside of that, just for himself. Would've loved smth like that instead of the XL!amnesia extra, but it is what it is! I love when content creators dig into the stuff mxtx never did and do such a good work with it!!!]
oh alright I thought I was crazy because even outside of twitter a lot of mutuals joke about his supposed self-insert shit and every time I`m like. did I miss something. you're completely right it just doesn't make sense for his character people just love to depict him as some sort of fiend😭 don't get me wrong I could go on for hours about how important the sexual aspect of his attraction to xie lian is & how it interacts with his internalized homophobia but people don't... really do that, they just go "haha creepy stalker" and that's it. this is why I love that video about the possible passwords and it's all incredibly cheesy and romantic lines because THAT makes the most sense for his character considering his taste in poems
the extras were such a waste because there was so much that could've been explored especially on hua cheng's side... if his (alleged) hmong background couldn't make it into the main story then that was the perfect moment to go with it. I'd kill just to have a scene where he sings the love song his mother taught him to xie lian, to know how he incorporated his culture in his signature crimson rain sought flower look, why he chose butterlies as his motif etc
AND YESS I've read that one it was really well written and had me sobbing all throughout it. I like that the author didn't paint his devotion as a burden that he has to let go of but as an important part of him; just that it doesn't have to be the only part of him. this is the kind of thing I would've loved to see in the extras

no worries! y’all can send those in anytime :) I’ve already done a post about thailand here so I can give laos a shot! although I will warn you my ideas for her are super nebulous I don’t know much about her... now’s my chance to flesh her out! once again shoutout to lullindo on instagram for inspiring me with her character for laos <3
name yep here’s my fumble, I haven’t known any lao ppl and I don’t know of names? but doing some research tells me they have a name culture like thailand’s, where they have super long given and last names, along with a nickname they’d use most of the time. tbh I have no clue what either of those would be, but I feel she has even more names than normal and uses many different ones... lots of minority groups in laos and so she def has a hmong name, a khmu name, etc
appearance hcs I think she’s very pretty. like exceptionally so. like if I saw her irl I would faint (hhhsjhdjshdjsk pretty girlsjdjsksjksj) although she looks kinda... idk I feel she has vibes of being Very Old And Tired, she has sunspots and stuff which is strange on someone who looks so young otherwise (that’s a trait I think she, vietnam, and cambodia all share tbh.) she has extremely straight and thick black hair. also she’s a very minimalistic dresser, she doesn’t put a ton of time into it.
brotps/otps/rships/sexuality ooh so ofc her and thailand are really tight, they have a sibling-ish relationship and have a lot in common, and I feel he kinda tries to be a big brother to her but she ends up big sistering him instead LOL. she’s more straight laced/logic minded than he is and is often the one who just gives him banging advice out of nowhere. also her, vietnam, and cambodia are kinda... bonded together? like when you and a friend both go through something traumatic and you’ll share that trauma forever. that kinda situation. when laos feels like she can’t even talk to thailand about something, she’ll talk to one of those two. they really understand each other. but I think she’s a bit on the shy, closed off, “I don’t need to go into my feelings I just need to work”, and so she’s actually rly shrewd with making connections with other countries. she has great amicable working relationships with lots of them, and the thought of her and australia being pals and her passing him notes at meetings is strangely endearing to me lol. also she’s very sympathetic in general and has big support for hk, taiwan, etc. not sure about ships, I feel she’s still unsure/questioning her sexuality after repressing everything for a longgggg time.
fav food laos is THE country of sticky rice, and I think she just. <3 carbs <3. a dish that never fails to put a smile on her face is khao lam, but tbh any kind of sweet sticky rice is the best of the best to her (she especially likes the type with coconut milk and mango!) she also likes stuff from her neighbors (and vice versa; a lot of thai food is actually lao in origin) and loves catching up with vietnam over a big bowl of pho... yea. side note I think food is a really essential part of laos/cambodia/vietnam’s relationship, it’s how they support each other, heal, come together, show love. traumatized emotionally distant gang, they cut fruit for each other instead of hugging gang 😗✌🏽
why they are stupid ooh honestly I think she’s pretty smart too... but sometimes she can be a real doof when it comes to social situations skdjskdj. like she’s very nice and chill but she also doesn’t bother keeping up with shit ya know. IN SOME STRANGE WAY it’s da vinki energy lol. she’s never heard of ANYTHING (I’m sure yall have all asked someone “oh have you heard of___” she will say no every time) also she’s completely clueless when ppl are like. dating each other or having a friend breakup or whatever. listen my girl is just tryna vibe she has no clue what the rest of yall are doing
